Thailand braces for large anti-government rally
"Thailand is bracing for a large anti-government protests tomorrow. The Roddy. Shuttled to take place at university, which was the site of a student massacre decades ago and comes after weeks of demonstration's. The best attended was in the middle of August. When more than ten thousand people marched in Bangkok calling for Political Change, PA me-meeting learn how Students have no choice. We can only come out. We don't want to grow up and have kids ask us when the country was facing injustice for you doing. The protests started off largely as student movements. Different groups of young people around Johnson is the economist Southeast Asia correspondent. We've seen them spread actually in into high schools, and now they seem to be gaining traction among a large segment of the population. What can we expect from tomorrow's protests? We've got two different versions of what's going to happen tomorrow. The protesters' who are organizing the rallies. At Thomas, university anticipate fourteen thousand people coming the authorities are trying to poo poo that. And say you know perhaps it'll be half as many will show up even survey not taking any chances. There were also thousands of police who are being marshalled to keep the event in order, and we've just had actually the deputy minister who is extremely close ally of the prime minister is going to be running the operations into that sexually monitoring the rally. Marta who all these protesters and what's the back story how did they get started? There's been frustration building in Thailand for a number of years the current prime minister and many of his closest henchman seized power in a coup in two thousand fourteen and for while they promised that that would be elections but there wasn't actually one until last year and even when that election occurred the current time constitution ensure that. It wasn't really a level playing field for opposition parties who ran against pro-military potties and others who eventually came together in a coalition and one so that Prime Minister Pray Challenge Child at full McCoy leader could stay in power. So many ties were very annoyed that they had the liberties. Ko they waited many years for an election and then it wasn't savvy the first place and then on top of all that. A particularly, Popular Party led by a very charismatic young politician businessman who basic he got fed up with state of Thailand and decided to become involved in politics. The long. The short of it is that the Ponti Future forward was dissolved earlier this year in February, and that was when we first started to see some flashbulbs few street protests and anger starting to build about the current government. What the protesters want is, is it just the reinstatement of the party or something else I? Think the core protest is believed that this is all moved above. And beyond future forward, a lot of the platform and policies that future forward advocating for things that many of the press testers would like to advance in Thailand more freedoms. An end to harassing opposition activists to protest is also want to see parliament dissolved the crucially they know that dissolving parliament might not do much good until there is a new constitution of the protesters unified what they want. So. That is one particularly contentious issue in all of this, and that's the fact that some of the boldest protesters' have called for reform of the monarchy. The monarchy in Thailand is deeply revered. It's Tabu to to criticize the institution and indeed a less. Law provides up to fifteen years in prison for anyone to be in badly insulting the monarch the current monarch. King. Vajiralongkorn or Rama, the tents took over from his extremely popular father who died in two thousand sixteen and it's been a bumpy road since then as a result for the very first time pretesting and are openly criticizing some of the things that King Vigia along his dumb in particular, they are unhappy with the way in which he has poked crown assets in his own name and they are also unhappy about the fact that he has taken sutton important military units under his pulse no command and a lot of those stationed importantly right in Bangkok so how significant these protests the government. The fact that these protests have been growing since the middle of July slowly, but steadily ease programmatic and the longer they go on the bigger the headache this becomes the government, the students specific and not going away. They're not intimidated by the dozens of people who've been arrested for participating all leading, Maranda? What are the army and the government doing about this? So far it seems to have been a case of wait-and-see. We've seen a few dozen protesters arrested particularly the leadership, but we haven't seen any really tough crackdown and given Thailand's. Of cracking down on student protests, quite bloody manner, and in particular here I'm thinking of events in the nineteen seventies. One Fair on love People's minds is. What happens when the establishment runs short on patients with all of this, it's difficult to say precisely what will happen but the chances all dramatic intervention I think. Decorating In The Era Of Zoom
"I know that sounds really weird, but you know we're in this time and place right now. Where a lot of us are communicating with other people whether it's friends, family co workers through these video conference calls whether it's you know zoom or facetime or whatever technology you choose to follow. We love to sell three of those, but I think these sudden. Sudden prominence of these technologies in our lives right now has put new focus on what our homes look like in the background like how we present ourselves and our houses by what is on the screen behind us when we do, the zoom calls totally I was on his own call for work. The other day and I like had to find a place on my bed. That didn't look like I was on abandoned. Like I'm doing this. I'm going to bed but I'm going to make it. Look like there's just like an artful mirror behind me and I could be anywhere I could be like in the foyer. Still have a foyer I want to get into that in a second because I think there are actually two parts to this phenomenon, one is the like how you actually change your own home, but the other one is also like the voyeuristic element of getting to see other people's homes in this way because we're not just talking. Talking about like your boss or your co worker, or your grandma or whomever, you're calling, but also like TV now we're used to now seeing newscasters and sports, figures and celebrities, and all these people coming to our screens from their homes with their own offices and kitchens and bedrooms in the background, and it's like this kind of weird way to see inside someone's personal life that we weren't privy to before I I love watching some good news. You guys remember. We dug that with John Kuczynski is it. Christmas gear croissants. Kaczynski, Kristen Ski I just liked seeing his bookshelves and I like seeing like his kids made the sign like there's this homey nece, and this like almost depth like i. feel like I, know him better because I've seen a room in his house and I've seen how his kids draw I know. That's false death, but it feels like it's almost seems like a weird equalizer in a way like I know. A lot of these people have homes that are much grander and fancier than our everyday homes, but still to see this person whom you're used to seeing under studio, lighting and with makeup and fancy cameras suddenly. Just in their basement yeah, no, there was some celebrity I forget who it was now, but they were in front of big billiton's, and like four people deemed me and said like they need your help with the built in I. Wish I could remember who it was, but I was like that's so funny that you're looking at the celebrities instead of their face, but then I'm also like I m too, and I have an idea I heard a whole podcast where they were talking about during the NFL draft, which was held virtually this year. We didn't watch it. We're not NFL draft. Be pulled our sports as power-washing. To podcast about the NFL draft, but they were saying how people were getting distracted, and more people actually tuned into the draft this year, and they think partially because of the voyeur element of getting to see in the players and owners homes like that, and so became almost a more watchable event than it typically is something intimate about it right even if it's like they've selected this room, and it has nothing personal in the background and decorated. Maybe it's like in their guest house like we don't know the full story, but there is something about being like. Wow, that's like in their private space and we're seeing it and there's actually a. A whole twitter account about this. You mentioned the thing about wanting to restyle bookcases. Someone sent me a link to an article about room raider. I don't think that's the actual twitter. Handle but I'll link the twitter account in the show young dot com slash podcast, but is this account that basically all they do is post screen shots of people who are on television you know through zoom or some other teleconferencing and the twitter account rates their background, snarky or funny than snarky like it's not really that hard hitting. Although they do call out specific things, they'll say love. Angle bookcases Nice at a plant I would fully agree that everyone could. Could add another plant two and three. I also even found an article through Verandah, where they consulted with an interior designer about how people can make their homes look better in the background and it lines up with a lot of things that actually room raiders talking about I. Don't know who runs the room rate account, and if they have an interior design background. I don't think they do. I think they're more comedic well. I would say these are my personal tips because I have had a lot of work calls lately where I'm on. You know a great, and it's only four of us I know my rectangles pretty big. You know when? When I'm on a call with like thirty people for work I don't really care about the background that much, but when I'm on like just a few people, I'm like Oh. They're gonna see everything, so my tips are like to face a window, so there's light on my face as opposed to like being under a candlelight and looking like a goon. Yes, and this is actually something that we have struggled with because I think you might assume we have plenty of Nice style backgrounds to choose from when Nigel. No, especially in our last house, because when we laid out our office and everything, we didn't have this perspective on a layout like. Like what will the background look like on a call like this? That was not in the forefront of our brain, like it is now, and we used to like to make a lot of our calls using my desktop computer, because it has the big screen, but I sat with two windows behind me, so we were basically silhouettes on every call always which I didn't mind guys because you don't even have to make about when you're. You're like anonymous light, but my other tip. I was GONNA. Say some tips so number one face. A window is nice because you get that natural light on your face number to try not to look like. Like. You're into weird or intimate of a spot. Why WanNa look like I was in my bed. I also don't like to look like ooh. That could be a bathroom. I'm not in a bathroom, but when I look at the background, my question, I asked myself as like. We'll someone think this is a bathroom, and if the answer is yes, I move, and then my third tip is just around for something weird in the background. Because often something weird becomes normal to your eyeballs. An example would here. We have packing blankets still on a few windows that we're waiting for blinds for those look normal to me because I've seen them for. For six weeks now, but to someone else they look like. Why do you have like gray shaggy felt hanging from one side of the window off of a nail, like looks like the pelt of a very sad creature, so look around and say like what are my eyeballs used to? That seems normal to me, but isn't really normal. Another example would be like if you always hanging your bra over the chair. Don't do the zoom call in front of the chairs. Everyone can see your bra in the background like think about what's behind you and then shift the camera a little bit to make it look. I don't know

Paint-by-Number Kits, The Tonight Show, Dots Homestyle Pretzels
"We'll take a break from talking in complaining obsessing and instead shouting out things other people are doing that. We think you'll find useful ever as enjoyable as we do with all this around about roundup. I just wanted to start by shouting out. An activity not necessarily a brand work a specific company but an activity that has been keeping my family somewhat busy over the last couple of days. One that We hadn't done since my kids were a lot younger but My daughter has bought herself a big paint by number. You know painting right not the the ones that are kids when they're younger but kind of a more complicated one and she's been working on that and every once in a while somebody will stop by and add to it and just kind of sitting on our kitchen table so if you're looking for something to do says she ended at. Hobby lobby if it still or you can order online. But she's been doing this paper numbers thing. She's doing it passing the time fun on bed. It's a real be able to cover the walls of your whole house. We'll have a gallery by the end of US right so you're looking for something to do. Yeah bickers the paint by numbers. Give happy you. Terry well it. It's probably a risk to mention a a corona virus related entertainment options because things are changing so quickly. Who knows where things will be by the time you actually listen to this podcast? If things will still be available in going but I wanted to mention we mentioned earlier in the week that Laura had invited kids to share their council high school musical performances and other performances on her instagram page. And that is a really fun thing to sift your way through. Especially if you're someone like me who cries when you see young people Doing you know singing and dancing. It's very emotional. But that's very sweet. Jennifer Garner did a similar thing. So you can look at her I think that Laura Bananas is Hashtag Sunshine Stories and Jennifer Garner is. Hey Jen look at me. But we'll have the correct ones in the show notes if those wrong But also I've been enjoying all the late night shows. I guess if shut down because they don't have to have audiences and they don't have to have their crew and all the large number of people together to do that but various of them are putting things online and Jimmy Fallon is doing the tonight show from home with you. Know graphics drawn by his kids who actually has two daughters are very much you know. He's sitting trying to tell a joke in their crawling all over him and you know laughing in jumping around and doing stuff. His wife is filming it And he's then a face timing with his guests so on one of them Lhamo. Verandah was on it and on another one. Jennifer Garner was on it. So you know talking from their homes and it's just very loose and very of looks sort of like if you were trying to do something like this it would look about the same and it's just a very fun thing to look at your trying to kill some time in our long national period of urine boredom. And HAVE YOU CATHERINE. Well something to eat while while you're watching This these are the I know this. These things that came out of nowhere. I guess there from from Maryland or something but a- I think either my daughter or my husband I discovered these dots homestyle pretzels. On't yes which you know last week. Terry recommended Pretzel Pop tarts which I can now second So these they have a flavoring they it. It's not like it's not like honey mustard. It's not really ranch but it's not super spicy is just like this really nice. Savory flavor that comes on these these home style pretzels. They're like little twists and they're so good and then when I was in the store the other day I actually saw that they have candy bars with these things in is this. I did resist the urge to pick one up but that may change the next time. I brave the grocery store. Well this whole thing is excellent. Excuse for snacking. 'cause yes you know. You don't have to avoid that stuff under stressful situations such as this anything goes. Yes yes I should have. Just gone ahead thinking of ditching weight watchers membership but they are very trying times and you might need some pretzels to get yum. I will be looking those up now. Yes so along with your painting and your fun things to watch have some missiles and that'll do it for another week of parenting

4 Things You Need to Know About Saga Cruises
"You're about to discover the four things you really need to know about saga cruises. I'm gary beverage. This is another of my tips so terrorism here onboard saga all the cruisers spirit of discovery in my cabin. And I want to share with you things that I think you really need to know about saga starting with this one solid cruise is part of the Saga Holding Group and they specialize in insurance and also regularly travels so escorted tours particularly they have two ships is in their fleet very modern fleet spurts of discovery. Which I'm on now? According this which was launched in twenty nineteen and spirit of adventure assistantship launched in twenty twenty it operates in the small ship category. They have nine hundred and ninety nine guests on these ships ten passenger decks. And it's all. Aw Balcony. Cabins Songa talks about offering boutique small ship cruising and what they mean by. That is the whole design and look and feel of the ship is quite contemporary modern inspired by not hotels particularly in London and small ship because it falls within the small ship category in industry by only having nine hundred and ninety nine guests secondly one of the critical things that I always like to look at when reviewing a cruise line is what they do. Unique or different to other cruise lines and soccer does a surprising large and in fact this seven things that I think they do differently first of all they are an adult only fifty plus the cruise line. The second thing they do is they focus on a very British experience. So everything on the ship. It's starring food the quizzes the entertainment rain meant the lectures even the passengers. It's very very bridge experience. And in fact if you WANNA come on a saga cruise the only way you can really book is through. UK agents or through UK Saga Saga does offer probably one of the most British of ord experiences that you can get cruising out of the UK. The other thing that saga it does and they win a lot of awards. Every year travel awards they win awards for it. which is they door to door? Vip Service so they basically will come and collect you from way you live bring you right down to the ship in Dover and then when you finish they will take you back to your hub. So it's very much a door to door service and the guests has to come on. Saga cruises love the fact that they met at the door and brought all the way to the the other thing which I think they cater for better than any other cruise whose line in the world is for Solo travelers. Twenty percent of the cabins on these new ships spurred discovery and the spirit of adventure also solo cabins. One hundred nine cabins are seller cabins so they catered enormously for Solo travelers. And it does mean that you don't have then all the big surcharges for double occupancy. So definitely I don't think there's any other cruise line that caters on the scale. As a percentage of their ship for Solo travelers something. Yeah I think they do incredibly well and they have lots of meet ups and ways of looking off to solid travelers once. They're on board the other thing which saga do is. They provide no-fly oh fly cruising out of the UK all year round. Most of the departures will be out of places like Dover. They do move to Southampton particularly the winter season but unlike like many cruise lines who move their ships out of the UK and head to places like the Caribbean Saga will sell all year round out of the UK. That's one thing that I think does make them. Unique and different. The whole fleet is based in the UK all year round another really interesting aspect to what saga does is. They will bundle insurance into the fair one of the challenges when you go cruising is the cost of insurance and getting making sure that you've got the right policy and also because saga does attract attract. Some older passengers sixty seventies and above getting travel insurance and cruise insurance can be a challenge so within their fair you can opt in to have insurance to cover. Cover your crews. I don't have any other cruise line that included within their fair. So it's definitely something unique and it's a real big plus another thing that they do pretty uniquely Sydney for the the category of ships that they operate in is their fares. Have a huge amount of inclusions compared to other cruise lines of similar standard solvency or combinations included oil foods included and that includes both the standard dining. So you in the main restaurant in the grill and the Verandah which are the informal dining but also so then all of the specialty restaurants have example onboard spirit of discovery. They have the club by Jews Holland. Which is the steakhouse? They have have east to West which is a real saga classic which is kind of Asian fusion food then have seafood restaurant called coast to coast on spirit of adventure. They're tweaking slightly highly. You still have the steakhouse you never Nepalese. And you're going to have an Italian so all of your dining is included afternoon. Tea Room Service is included. They use include wine wine and beer at lunchtime but all of your drinks are included in all the fares from twenty twenty as already mentioned. You got the transfer service and you've got the insurance. They also have a shuttle bus which runs into the towns. If it's not within easy walking distance that's included within the fair that's kind of a complimentary shuttle shuttle-service other cruise lines would often charge you for that other inclusions within the they include Wi fi now most cruise lines will charge you for Wi fi. Some of the very premium ones to be honest with you. I don't find the why particularly good on board The Times that I've been on board saga but it is definitely included. gratuities are included. And even if you go to the spar bar I was in charge any gratuities into SPA so no gratuities on top of your fair. That's included so the key extras that you're GONNA pay for is laundry okay. You'RE GONNA pay for that. You can use the guest laundry for nothing obviously do shopping. There's no casino on board if you some in the medical center and then excursions they are extra so the fares do include pretty much more than many other equivalent cruise lines. So thirdly what do saga do the same or worse than other cruise lines of a similar types of premium and cruise lines. Well first of all they offer a very traditional cruising experience not gonna find it particularly innovative or different. So it's going to have formal formal nights for example where you are expected to dress up so gentlemen Tuxedo Dockside Anti Ladies and sort of glamorous counts the activities and events on board are pretty traditional as well as you can have. Things like quizzes. Putting competitions trivia quizzes the production shows are very traditional styles. You can have view sort of review type shows. I think the shows for example are pretty standard to the rest of the industry then optically innovative in different. So that good quality descending passages enjoyed them a lot but sitting I found them pretty standard to other cruise lines so if you like production shows which are of the review type so for example they had some on board which looked at dance music through the decades that had another one focusing on Queen. Those types of shows pretty traditional. That's what you're going to get on board other other activities that they offer include dancing to live bands. which again is very consistent for a lot of British based cruise lines? They also have craft of classes. That have a dedicated craft class. That have a library stocked with lots of books. So it is pretty similar from many of the other cruise lines of its type in terms of the Status Ah type of cruising experience. It's not particularly different cruise experience. So if you like traditional cruising you certainly would like the saga experience the facilities ability. He's on board. The ship are again pretty traditional for cruise ships. You can find the usual things. Spa Fitness Center Pool Selection of bars. And lounges although in fact one of the largest which I think is kind of different very special is the large but overall the facilities are pretty standard for other cruise cruise ships of its type. The other thing which I think is pretty similar is food. The food on board is great but of course all premium lies tend to have really good food. There's lots of choice always big menus good quality food but I would say it's pretty consistent with other cruise lines of that type of you paying us a premium crusade. Expect good food and you'll find it on saga and they certainly have the choice because they have different specialty restaurants but I'd say all the Food City matches and as good as other premium lines like other premium Siemian cruise ships cruise ships as a wide range of accommodation. But what's very important is. They're all balconies so is also a plus but you can get everything from sweets down to sorta balcony cabins so there's a wide range of cabin types like there are on other cruise ships the thing which they also probably do a little bit worse than other cruise lines is making it. Easy for international guests come on board. They're very focused on the British cruise. Up and it's very easy if you live in the UK to Gonzaga crew's coming from another country so you're Australian or from the US. It's a little more difficult because they don't actually sell those actively in the country so you me to work with an agent which can connect with saga in the UK. They can make all the arrangements they can do flights and do all the arrangements to get you into the UK but it they don't make if that easy so you do have to deal with saga or an agent in the UK that deals with saga. So that's one thing they probably make a little bit more difficult. Because if you WANNA cruise norman other cruise lines you'll find it very easy to make bookings online directly with a local site so who is saga best for us. I mentioned you need to be an adult change. Be over fifty or one of the people in the Party needs to be fifty to come saw crews so it's only no kids and you do tend to find. The profile is on the higher side and of course it depends a little bit on the cruise and the length of crews and time of the year. So you will find a lot of people in the sixty seventies and even in their eighties onboard a saga crews also. You need to be someone who loves a very British experienced lights traveling with lots of British travelers. It's going to be pretty much. All British cruises loses onboard and the experience as discussed is going to be very British from the food the entertainment so if you really craving looking for a great experience you'll find it on board. It's very very good. If you're a solid travel as I've mentioned they also do have cabins for people with accessibility needs and are very good at dealing with people who have accessibility needs on on the ship and also when it comes to ranging excursions so those types of travelers will find saga a good option in my view. Saga is a very interesting line. It's a small small line at a very British focused line and it has really big strong loyal following. Hopefully that's giving you some

"Mexico's one of the biggest in that dead because of political thing that makes the end of the day it was interesting on what they were gonna solve right now. I think that terminal that spike secrete is off is or heroin from what's the Rava because he challenges a certain kind of experience in the space. How light comes in, and how the the, the hall is experienced now if he wins the competition, great, maybe, not by just triggering that thought is an interesting. Lever would sit. So if I were to say my most favorite airport, this woman, even though it's not the biggest, I would say the one in Harrow that here in design concept is not a reality yet. Yeah. That'll be really interested. Parting shot anything else you like excited about airport terminals. Things listeners should want to know about one that the revolution of what our travel, I think, is going to beat the point where the airport is dissolved to non existing. Yeah. You travel free movement crossed the planet from your home with e what is the drone are different craft, and you can move from point to point with certain regulative dynamics you press the button. No, you're connected to infrastructure system that lets you move across from point to point freely. You pay your services you get checked scanned. They know who you are. And you move from point to point to a place to place. So the infrastructure and the dynamic of what we see today as the how it's done, we'll be shifted. That's what I'm C while you're still alive. "They renovated them. They created a whole different expression inside. So what will be ever Lucien going into the future of an airport, for example. What does that look like that's, that's the interesting things to the structure because exterior, but bring a whole new light liaison side? Yeah, I have to say, I know they're in the midst of redoing it now. And it's been a couple years since then. Much worse for you. Guys have lived on your knees all the time. Then for me just the ones three times. Now this week, I've used Juliana, but it always was a nice airport inside, but never felt particularly local to me. An incident, not have island feel to it. What could happen, does this and one of the factors most imports in the Caribbean. Or that is in other countries. But in other countries, you've got to decide whether you want to get that. Cultural or experience right now for its own Hera airport is having a competition to see who's wearing in order to get that one design. You have call the problems in one thing. Everybody's putting on their own little twisted experience, and expression to that airport about if you come to apart and the airport was designed by some company, or some other organization who again, the question always becomes, when are you going to include whether it's going to be a cultural factor, the personal factor? The people factor, it order to bring certain experience, if you run away from that experience, you lose the context the character of the place, because why would you why would I want to take away the character to create an alien in a location to foster a certain kind of movement when that's not really gonna bring any and I think the Caribbean Somers a little bit on that front because of the legacies of the settlements. This is still a Dutch. Yes place. The French side is still is actually more surprise is part of the both from ride. It's part of Waterloo. So there is some of that. Also very duckling airport, and it would fit in perfectly in the Netherlands, but it also has to fit heater somehow for me. I the same port. What is it now nearly ten fifteen years ago? I designed I meet a concept to see me, a poor never presented or anything like that are used the ergot drunk, so you can show me that the Erkin shell took the idea of the Erkin shell and you, you squeeze it down. And you create certain capsules where the lighting affect would be completely different. You create an understanding of the Caribbean airport, a creepy and terminal, and then you use the whole top to be able to have a park and experienced people can see airlines, you put your makes us stuff like that. You give people the feeling that they're not just at an airport. The airport has other interval features at this point waiting until the call inch to discuss, for example, a concept, I devote. Vote for the airports Martin, which has what is called airport island to create a complete new dynamic of what happens around the airport, not just looking at airport itself. But looking at a complete condition around the airport with many different opportunities and events that can happy. I was called into deal that, for example, the executive lounge and the end up doing is evaluating the thirty seven beaches. Whatever else on the island coming up at something called the beach bay lounge which did not manifest yet, but it would be in our condition context creative presence that would be interesting for sports, especially considering the old is pretty more. Exactly. Switching gears a little bit here. You study airports, your, your job to know what they are, and how they look in to get get a little bit of them. Got a favorite. Do you have a favorite a favorite? Look school or feels good or feels local Enright is there. What gets cited South Korea in John, correct? It's very interesting airport. Yeah. Just in the new terminal there earlier this month. Oh, yes. And a lot of others. But what, what I mean, of course, you have the ones in Hong Kong and other places where the design them right now, for example, those one in deeded one in Beijing China. And then there was one going to be coming to cancel it right now..

"And that's a good process, quote, unquote scenario because most airports are looking at the profit, return investment whatever else, but the other prophet is human capital profit people profit. That's another margin. Yes. You mentioned sort of waiting into the last minute to go through security immigration, all those things. That is typically the type of thing that is talked about in business. Private aviation environment. Right that the big selling point is you show up in the plane goes. But, and that's a part of what Grandpa's looking at. But it also could apply. Because it small enough planes to the general general, which commercialization side of really interesting. AT ours are forty dollars in here. So that's a little bigger private plane. But concept certainly the same nineteen seats or whatever on like you really could have that opportunity what you're saying is true because one of the other aspects for instance. By the. Call it now that side airport. Interesting, the airport what's going on. There was also tension to grow a presence management to define how experience the cultural factor of the island when you arrive or when you're gonna leave, but there's. The mortgage study the problem, you realize that in reality, there's a, a sliver of condition between going into the international or staying into the local context, basically go into international is are you gonna have to pay more to actually pay less for certain items? But again, there's a loss of potential because the majority of the people are in a waiting for their friends and family to the plane to see Lee finally or whatever, and they have to wait long it becomes a problem. So what you're looking at is of the dynamic of what's happening changing in the industry is for instance, on the one of the. Kadett unveiling that happened at the conference is that, of course, you're Uber and signature who's going to be a veal in New York there. Joan factor being able to use ten the taxiing that's going to be in July as going to be coming out about what's interesting about that is, is changing the fall, fair or dynamic of how direction happened because if you say Uber of signature for now, that's interesting because that's at the point of fixed base operation of high-end private chip condition where I can afford to take that Uber to ever. But if you now opened that up further to the point where it is. It is like a taxi, like a bus and you're just taking that number that flight that craft to whichever this the nation place. You're going that means that the airport don't need the running the long extended runway in mall. It's a whole different approach to the airport juncture vertical takeoff and landing experience. But that doesn't mean you, you remove it. You can use it. But now that, that runway turn into landing points for vertical anything cough. So you increase value. You turn begin to diversify. What happened with buildings that were older buildings of the in Europe..

"Meaning the give you the country experience before you get into the plane that you're getting while factor or cultural exposure, experience, one of the hearts of it is to in a sense. I always liked to bring it out for the point that you what is the college character? Of the place. How can you put a trigger in a situation where you're able to not only expose the character, but how people to be to interact with the character of the place? In Grandpa's the word grand 'cause means big house, and the big house has verandah effect at the verandah affect is there's normally, you don't have something called the urban ferenda, so the grand 'cause we create the idea was to create in urban verandah, that means now that the city of Ren caused becomes the big house and everything around becomes the random, so the airport exposes the opportunity now to, to showcase, the different features aspects of, of Aranda are of the country. Now, if you have a veranda that need you have an open floor verandahs, a perfect example of what happens because it is the position of private public or public going into more condition because it takes you. When you get in a plane, you're getting into international reality. Or when you're in the quote, unquote, interim space, it's just before you go into. The local space, but the verandas that in between that place where you big decisions. So when you get on someone's verandah, it's a welcome. It's discussion point, but out on the porch with Iraq with their rocking chairs directories strings in Assam Bush tea, it's a relaxed spot. You know where you can begin to have that movement of reflection with each other one of the things that more than about this is trying to foster because it's local little airport, one of the things that you miss if it was a bigger airport, you would have the reality that you have to be checked in by certain our and those two hours or three hours when you reach the other side, you have to be doing sometimes at the plane's late. You never let a four hours, you cannot go back into the space you're actually checked in your, and it's internationals Ukraine. Emmigration exactly, so no. At veranda you can stay on the other side until the when it's fully ready. Only at the moment of transaction of, you know, having to into the plane, the plane is ready, then you need your loved ones. Then you leave your your colleagues there with so Verana gives you more time of the local side to your family to interact..

"A special tree come to you from Saint Martin, but not Maho beach not sunset grill. Right. We're not stuck. We didn't get out to the beach. Oh, sort of stuck in a conference. It would have been nice but I got a special guest today and we're talking about airports. We talked about, airports, a lot on the show. Mostly making fun of the fact that Berlin not open and probably never will. But wanted to talk about sort of the concepts in the background behind design of airports, and some of the thoughts that go into that, and not necessarily the most practical bids, but some of the real crazy thing and stuff. So I'm gonna let him introduce himself off a little bit about as background and we're going to get into that discussion. Good afternoon. Yes, wonderful. Thank you. We've been in context third time. Yeah. Yours is one of the things that interesting, I'm at architect and involved in the part of the things. Right now. But one of the things we had to do -ality comes in is in trying to understand how the one meets the other because as much as aviation, the plane is flying. It touches the ground and it has to make contact with the person on the other side of that. Hold on. You the doorway the doorway to vote on the joys of the Caribbean or any other country might wanna call it. So there's that, that interaction point, which is where the airport design in a sense in dealing with the F B O of fixed based operations for either private. Or you got the regular public side of it, and most of the time what you looking at is now where over the years that I've been involved, the different sides of it. It's more than their me as an architect of been exposed in the sense to these different context to bring them presents or story, I skip in very important. Part of this conversation. She was telling people what your name is. This is Damien Richardson. He's sorry. What we'll get? That detail in the show point of he's an architect, based on your base here and smart, right? So he's based in Saint Martin has been working on stuff. He joked with me two or three days, what he said before we sat down for several years. Now, one of the interesting things that you put out spoken conference here could be Caribbean. Aviation Fessel that we've been at this week and you had a design for the new our new design for the smaller airport and Saint Martin, which people don't even know, exist, grain costs on the French side. And it's a couple thousand foot runway mostly short hops on AT ours to Guangzhou and Martinique and some scare vans down to Saint parts, I think, and a few business jets, it's too small business Jesse they were gonna expand it, and then we had a little hurricane down here, so that hurricane they had also some of the bought some land to expand airport wrongly gyms of the funds to make it happen. So the tricky so within that context idea was to generate the concept of discussion can be has and. The company that is vanishing airport. And this woman would be interested or willing to, to followed on a scenario for them. And that's where I came in, we're but slobber within the context of being an advisor or part of giving them wisdom. That's been, I came in to bring a concept that concept, of course connects of it. We can look at the global reality of airports in how they managed and how they deal with Singapore, Rena, great stuff, and some of the other stuff, I'm hearing about Vancouver of how presence connecting growing relationship with the client offs..

"Closures. We have to do some pavement grinding on the eastbound side kind of like taking sandpaper. Verandah smoothing out. Some rough surfaces. We need to do that kind of grinding. And that needs water on the side. And you can't do that in cold temperatures. So we'll do that spring. We'll work on the median wall a little bit of slope restoration for where we disturb that. And we do have to work on the service drive this year. But again with got a couple of months, maybe three months without anything going on. And we will enjoy it. Everyone will enjoy as they learn slowly. But surely or rather quickly westbound I six ninety six in McComb county reopening, there are still two closures that we still need to know about Diane. Well, I'm just telling you that was my lead into for you to tell folks the ramp from northbound Mound Road to westbound I six ninety six and the Hoover road ramp to eastbound, I six ninety six still closed. They were gonna be closed for maybe about a week. We've got equipment that we need to move. That's where the contractor was staging. I thought you might have been leading into I seventy five southbound we opened a second lane between Clark and Springwells not all four lanes. But now we're going to have to going southbound that'll help a lot. And then in the next two to three weeks. We'll have those other two lanes open as well. I kinda thought maybe that's where your head was as I said that I realized there are a lot of other closures and things that people have to worry about are you telling me that as I drove to see my mother in Monroe yesterday. I didn't have to go all the way out past the airport in two seventy five I could've taken seventy five straight through. Do. I hear sarcasm in your voice, Mr.. No, no, no, no. I'm just asking. I'm completely out of it here. So I don't know my ways my ways, or whatever it's called said to go that way. We that was the official detour that we a set up almost two years ago now because we want it all that truck traffic to head west us freeway to freeway admit a lot of people didn't use it. But a lot of did. And we wanted to keep those upper fort street and off of a local roads because that was a big issue for a lot of drivers. But we do have to southbound lanes open. Now as you go from Clark near the ambassador bridge heading towards Springwells near the Rouge river bridge. Those two lanes are open. We only had one for maybe the last six weeks or so and we'll get the other to open in the next couple of weeks. And then we'll have all four lanes open.
