"Lot about some of the big stories that have occurred. In the last few days, and I want to kind of run through some of that. Perhaps we haven't given enough attention to. Ah, long would college I had a bunch of people who e mailed me yesterday said, Oh, my God. Have you seen what happened to the college Republicans and log would And I had not, um, s O. I appreciate when people will go to the Facebook page and let me know it seemed like the college Republicans in recent days were table ing. For their political candidates, so I'm sure that's Donald Trump and probably other assorted Republicans in the area around the school and around Virginia. And if What has been reported its correct and again I want to be fair on the radio and not make assumptions that what's told to me is absolutely what occurred. But if any of this is true Then the college Republicans were attacked at their table physically attacked. You know, I think it's I think it's kind of low rent, trashy tow, walk by somebody and flip him the bird or insult. Hm. I don't That's That's not what I do. I just Tend to ignore people. That I don't care for, but that's me, but it's certainly crosses a line. Don't you think to physically have an altercation? With people. So the log Longwood College Republicans have put out a release saying that they're very distressed that this happened to them. I don't think anybody went to the hospital. I don't like it was that bad. But you know, the the college experience is supposed to be preparing People for living in Western civilization. Would you agree with that statement? I think that's a fair statement to make that one of the reasons we send Barb's kids to college is so that they are educated. They have a broad understanding of the history that has brought us to this point. Hopefully, they'll be challenged. You know, maybe they'll be exposed to ideas that they hadn't heard of before. They'll challenge the things they were taught as young people. I would think the lot of them they would still embrace, but some of them they May reject, but it won't be an indoctrination. It will be an opportunity for them to fully understand the world around them and to explore ideas. But to do so with basic civility. One of the concerns I've had in the last several years is that that civility is Is being lost on college campuses, and I'm not talking about yelling at each other in a debate or arguing in a debate. I'm talking about physical conflict and Personal attacks that simply can't be tolerated in an environment in which you're supposed to be exploring different concepts and ideas and and quite frankly, training people to go into the real world and navigate conflict. And make good decisions. And I honestly um you know, I was an adjunct professor at Bcu. Eso It pains me to say this and I know a lot of people in this audience went to B c U and have kids and be see you and I'm I I don't mean to hurt your feelings or offend you. But I get the impression That a lot of the BCU students were involved with the violence in Richmond. This summer, and certainly VCU as an institution appeared to embrace the end result. Of that violence. I got a problem with that. And when I have contacted VCU to come on the radio and talk through this No one wants to do it. So that also indicates to me that they're not interested in setting some standards for their students. I'm not saying you've got to agree with John Reed. You don't have to agree with Donald Trump. You don't have to agree with May you don't have to validate my view of the world at all. If you can't engage in a civilised conversation, and if you can't defend the actions of your students and your administration In public. That says to me, there's a problem there, and I don't think you know. Unfortunately, I don't think it's isolated to to anyone campus. I think it is a rot. That is occurring. On university campuses all across the Commonwealth, and it's enabled by Democrat politicians who will not This serves their purpose. So they're allowing this to happen. Ah, and it's not limited to Virginia. In fact, and when I lived in California, it was on display in really radical ways. Decades ago before this arrived in Virginia, but we it has to be addressed. On campuses, and I'm I've scrolled through this morning again. Perhaps I've missed it. I want to be fair, but I don't think Longwood has responded to the college Republicans. If they have I am unaware of it. And I will share their response if there is one, but I haven't found it. Which also indicates to me. They're not that serious about sending a message to the students. Hey, you may not like the college Republicans. You may disagree with them. You may hate Donald Trump. That's all fine. But their lines were not going to allow you to cross on this campus. Think that's important. I also want to bring up Ah, a story that no one I have it. It's in The Times Dispatch will give the Times dispatch credit for at least covering this. This is insanity, and it's enabled by idiots. And quite frankly, racist idiots like Levar Stoney, the current mayor. 18 Richmond families are going to get $500 a month for the next two years under this guaranteed income program. That is an experiment in Richmond. So socialism, you know when I first started on this show, and I said Democrats are the party of socialism, and I used to feel guilty about saying that, But now I'm completely exonerated from any guilt. It's true. I had a lot of you said, Oh, my God, John, you're that's horrible for you to say it's simply not true. Really? Here's Levar Stoney, who is the up and coming star. You know the African American genius. He's the next Barack Obama here in Virginia, supposedly even though everything he's touched, has gone to into the garbage can in Richmond. Proposing a Program where we give $500 to these specially selected Richmond families with a guaranteed income program. That is so Shil is, um, that's taking money. From other people and redistributing it. Two other individuals in the society and we could create different reasons for that, but that's what's happening. And why do you think that's going to be effective to guarantee somebody? Money every month for doing nothing. If the mayor was a smart man, he would be focused on improving the economic situation in Richmond, so there would be abundant jobs at all different levels of the economic Ladder so that if you have a college degree, you could get a job. If you don't have a college degree, you could get a job if you have Ah, High school diploma. You could get a job. If you have a G e d. You could get a job. If you don't even have that You can still get a job and earn enough money to feed yourself and your family. And pay for the basic necessities of life. And the choices that you make are going to have an impact on you. But that's what the mayor should be focused on. Instead, he is creating a socialism experiment. Here in Richmond, and that's a big mistake. It is another reason why this guy is a total disaster. For Richmond, Virginia and for the state of Virginia. Ah ah, I hope you'll keep that in mind as you talk to people this weekend in advance of the election. It is 9 26. Now on this Friday, we'll be back with more in just a moment. NewsRadio w. "Andrew. Thank you again for joining us on the show and sharing your story and you know some processes particularly Brazilian Jujitsu another stuff. We'll get into and just help another folks with your perspective to kind of make that progress of thank you. Thank you Kevin. I'm excited to be. I think that what you've done so far has been a really good and I think it's important to break down Particularly the process aspects. You don't really hear very much about that when you're listening to a podcast or learning about Things though the process part in particular is something. That really appeals to me especially as every business been involved with as grown over the years. Yet I for the impetus for this which is really I rebranded. I had another pockets called between the slides and then honestly the more folks. I talked to. What so if you're like when you have to explain it a lot you're let me make it more obvious. But it was largely focused on that for the world that I came from a public safety and incident management special events and then project management. It's super process heavy Sometimes too much sometimes informal and everything in between and in particular as you mentioned eighteen months in was still very new but totally getting into more of the the understanding of how incremental of process that is of like every little roll little thing. Little tweak little move and it's kind of mind blowing even from being so new of how much depth their is. They're part of an episode. Let me do kind of like a book. Report podcast version of of one variation and You know from grappling to the modern Brazilian Jujitsu and the seventy different variations. So I was very interested to see all those different flavors of history and people and you know cross discussions and things and So for you and I and I've looked up some your background and and heard some of this from when I listen to you on on dirty web. What radio which was cool so folks if you haven't listened to that check that out as well But your process in about you. Are you from the rich Mary? I know you've been there forbidden went to vcu. Are you originally from Richmond? Virginia No actually grew up in Columbia South Carolina so about Twenty five years ago. I just wanted sort of a change in a ended up in the Richmond area. Then it's funny I've been enrichment for A little over twenty five years now on. It's still doesn't really feel like I'm from here. You know there's no other place that has ever traveled to where I think it's quite So so Front and center. When you're if you didn't grow up in Richmond. You're not really from here. You know and it feels that way to me still like imposter syndrome or something. It even in the area. It's it's still it's shifted now. I grew up in Chesterfield South side. Now it's kind of the old old area and I remember just a richmond thing of someone at intern. I think I had when I worked for the state And she grew up in Henrico. Which is the place to be so to speak of and and just talking about. Oh you grew up in south side like it was such an old place and it was so different but the economy and the change and everything of all the different areas around Richmond Annex. Pretty NEAT but but yeah it's There's definitely a very kind of Richmond. If you're from there you're kind of all in as well One thing we do share Richmond wise as we both went to vcu I'm a back to school. Use My job building stuff and went to an for you starting That's where you got into judo first-rate. That's right yeah. I wrestled in high school I wasn't amazing but I got a lot better my senior year. I was actually starting to get pretty good but then I graduated high school in there. Just wasn't there wasn't wrestling at the college. I went to which was university South Carolina. Okay you believe it or not. There wasn't a wrestling team there at least in the nineteen nineties and I was really bummed because I sort of fall in love with grappling Wrestling you know Dan so I mean. I wrestled a little bit with the high school kids. After the season you know went to a few freestyle wrestling tournaments but I just wanted more wanted to keep going and there wasn't anything there and I think ironically there was a judo club. But I didn't think much about judo back then When I was in South Carolina and then I moved up to Richmond and in nineteen ninety seven. I started training judo at the judo club and at vcu and it was just. I was hooked right away. It was a special time for for martial arts special time for judo. Insofar as there was a lot of sort things that were coming together at the right place at the right time we know the UFC. We have to go back in time. You have been on on the air since nineteen ninety-three but nobody had seen it like literally. Probably fifty thousand people saw the I see in the There was another one eight months later or something and that's the sort of the way it was so is this sort of a niche underground to a degree but people that were involved with judo They knew about the UFC. They knew about Grappling they were reading. You know Martial arts magazines and stuff like that like black doll magazine was sort of the the leader back then if you were interested in even grappling. Because there wasn't there weren't industry specific magazines out there so I think that communities were a lot more interconnected. You had a lot more sort of a Geek condo type people involved with grappling people. You know judo injury. Jitsu were much more closely related than they sort of art today Which I mean as far as martial arts go. They're very very similar as far as like the way. The Arts are practiced in the culture. It's it's pretty different. Judo is a lot more formal. You just is very very laid back. You know tends to get rid of a lot of aspects of the tradition and so Maybe it's perceived as incompatible to a lot of a lot of people but I was really lucky at vcu It wasn't really like that. There were people coming over from you just schools throughout town and When I started competing in in Jujitsu Before actually started formally training in it. I'd had experience at the Judo Club. Traveling around Training going to seminars stuff like that. But no consistent regular training in. That was possible back then. It was possible because of the particular circumstances that I had to actually do pretty well when I competed in some of those arenas because I had you know. Of course judo Experience Judo Club but also good grappling especially for the time we had people. He wrestled before but also people that were actively training in Brazilian Jujitsu. And I think that was uncommon back. Then so it's sorta how things got started for me. When I moved to the Richmond area was really really lucky. Fell into the right

"I'm going to. I'm gonna go through every game in the first round. And I'm gonna give you my stream of conscious Duke versus the winner of North Carolina central which is really weird because North Carolina central is literally right next door to Duke and North Dakota state. I think that's odd. I mean, obviously like to do the thing would do is. I don't think you can pressure them. But you have to be able to handle their pressure. You got Bill make them shoot in box out rebound. I actually would love the VCU matchup. I don't think there is good as Duke. But when your best players hurt and rehabbing just to get back for the second round for the first round skews me. I like central Florida over VCU if you haven't seen BJ Taylor can really really shoot the basketball. He's not true ball handler. And I do think you can crank them up pressure wise. I if VCU was fully healthy, I would take, but they're not gonna take UCF. And then and then Duke to beat central Florida. I'd you know, I I don't taco fall. Takaful has gotten better every single year. But I just don't know who guards in that game. And throwing it to him while he can be effective. He's not. So if I came alive one down there. Mississippi State taken on liberty liberties really skilled, and they're going to prize you right, Kalem homes Lee is he's kind of one of those all everything guard wings. Oh, God, you can tell these back because his rob zombie sounds as good as it ever did nothing but thunder references from now on. This is the haters guide to the podcast before we begin go through bracket. And I don't know if we switched it a year ago or not, but we used to choose the most likeable teams who advanced we're not gonna do that this time we're gonna have the most we're got picked the most hateful team. And each matchup an advanced through the brackets, the Termine which team is the most hateful, which will end up never being Duke. Even though Duke is fun to watch. It's Ted something about Duke. But this is the most likeable team in my entire life. And that they're fucking lock to win. It no matter what I have some gripes against VCU that have to. Who the hell is anything VCU was it? What was your was your against VCU was when they went to the final four as a first four team. I think for catapulting shock smarts career and making us all realize he's a fraud with Texas this season. That's probably the big issue. I have with Bisi off the bat. Oh, let's go doing. Is that no this is all based off of a joke that I started two seconds ago. Is. I'm not always clear, my sarcasm. Gave his Merlin fan. And I before we begin. I have to tell you, Gabe, my son. My six year old. I'd all my kids fill out brackets for our pool, and they'll all be torched within by like one pm on Thursday youngest son picked Maryland win at all. And then the last second last night when I was entering the brackets. He said, no, no, wait, wait, wait. And he has Maryland changes. Mine is Maryland you losing in the final to New Mexico. Mexico state champion, why New Mexico state? I I think because he likes saying the word Mexico. I think that gets a gets a kick out of it because that's the name of that. Yeah. No. That's very childlike approach to it. You know? And also it's now more realistic than what he had before. Because I fully believe that if somehow the world flipped upside down in Maryland made it to the to the tournament finals and played New Mexico state. That would be the game they blew. Yeah. That would would fit somehow even in that upside down universe. Maryland wins multiple games in March. I tell this story every year. But it's I think I expect one of your children to finish ahead of me in the bracket pool at least also in life. Yeah. No for sure. Well, they they have they have all kinds of upbringing advantages that I didn't have inflatable dinosaur costume a much larger father than I had in ru. But the when I was at the Wall Street Journal million years ago, we did a bracket that was we tried to get some like oddball people to people I knew from college didn't care about. Football at all. "So have you fill out your bracket yet? I'm working online right now. You know last week we had a Representative of sportsbook with us talking about the brackets talking about which way to go. So I suggested lady t tomorrow that we needed to fill are. So you're coming in here. Right. Okay. We're gonna fill our brackets out. We're at least going to start the process of filling our brackets out. You're going to be over there. Okay. All right, welcome. I don't know. Just so that you guys know we talked about this earlier today. And then just now in the news break tomorrow came in with the same information. I said Where'd you get that information from one of the sports guys? I'm like, I don't know. I think it's cheating. Terms and bracket now in terms of you and not actually land. What I'm doing is. I'm trying to make sure that we are accurate as their games that are taking place today. So in the the Duke game, right so Dougal either play the winner of North Dakota. State or North Carolina central. You didn't know that? So they played tonight. Okay. So then when you make that pick your picking either Duke or North Dakota or NC, well, they play they play they play March twentieth. So the winner of that game is going to actually is gonna play Duke. We didn't know that. So I just got clarification from one of the sports for now. That's that's it. I didn't ask. On his chest. As when in this case, if you I'm honest. Okay. Okay. So I went I went with Duke Saturday take there. I haven't finished online just said, we know. Okay. By now, I was struggling with VCU. And UCF. Yeah. I was struggling with that. But I think I'm leaning towards VCU I'm gone with UCF only because Florida that's my second life. That's my second home. Okay. With them going. Mississippi or liberty. I went with Mississippi Emma, southern girl side decided that my family's from Louisiana. So I'm going with Mississippi, and I went with Mississippi too. But primarily because I really don't know anything about liberty. And but they have a pretty good record. I mean, that's the only thing then you get upset when you go strictly by the record twenty eight and four twenty nine. Freeze out. Virginia Tech, Saint Louis. Did you do? I did Virginia Tech Virginia Tech as well. And you know, it same thing it's because of their reputation. Yes. Because their reputation. So Duke UCF who are you going to do can you have to pick who you're going to go with their next year, Duke. I'm dr. I don't know if I'm going to go all the way yet. But I'm gonna go. Let's see how this shakes out right now. And you need to understand. This is really the first time I've ever done this. Totally okay. Okay. I've always had my son or somebody else giving me some input. And then I just acted like I knew what I was doing. So now, we're here. Now, you're the task this task you do absolutely okay. Marilyn you'll it'll be Marilyn or Belmont or temple because Belmont temple. Right. They play that nineteen day played later today, and I'm going with temple temple temple as well. Any reason why? Not necessarily, okay. I don't have a reason. All right. Okay, LSU. And yeah. LSU LSU me too. I mean, I'm looking at their numbers. And yeah. The I'm going with LSU because keeps that my son. Vastra louisiana. I'm trying to stick with things that's close to me or things that are connected to maybe I have some luck that way, I was gonna say so it really has nothing to do with their record. Now. Okay. Where are we Louisville? Minnesota. I got nothing for either one. I'm gonna go with Louis Minnesota because they have a better record. Okay. Let's do them Minnesota. Okay. And where are we here? Michigan. Michigan was Dayton, Bradley. I'm gonna at Michigan state only because I like Michigan state. I like Michigan state ta I just have a feeling that Bradley is going to be one of those upset. Yeah. Yes. I'm gonna go with Bradley. I'm gonna go with Bradley now, we're gonna hold that thought we gotta we gotta take care of business here. Yeah. We got to take care of. But we're going to finish these brackets. Hopefully today, you are listening to Katie K, a ten twenty that bracket queens. Few.

"Yeah. I think is really interesting match up. You know, Athens's status is really key here and this game because I think he's VCU's best player VC is not accustomed to playing against height. Like UCF has now certainly you could say we'll nobody's really used to playing against somebody like talk. Oh fall. And you'd be right. But at the same time if you look at VCU's conference, I mean who really has a bunch of big guys. I can't really think of anybody in that conference that has against a bunch of really good big guys. You know to me VCU definitely visit vantage there now on the other hand UCS their turnover numbers. Don't look that bad. You know, they're they're okay. It taking care of the ball. But they don't go against the press. They don't go against aggressive defense as nearly as much. I think this is a good match up because it's weakness versus weakness. You know, you have a a team that's able to take advantage of the other teams weakness, you would think against the same from the other. Side. So you know, who's able to take advantage of that more? I think it'll be interesting to see what tempo this game played that we have a total here once when he seven and a half one twenty seven I wouldn't want to take the under in this game. I think that both teams are so good at getting the belying. Both of these teams foul quite a bit. It's hard to take an under at one twenty seven. When you think there's going to be a bunch of free throws in the game. So I don't like the Onder. I would lean do the over in this game. Like, I said, I think Evans's status is really key here. This is a game from side point. I don't have a strong lean in this game. I will tell you. I'm gonna tell you the percentage in the money percentage on a lot of these games here. Sixty four percent of the beds on UCS fifty two percent of the money on DC you so far. So that's the split here early on Monday. Well, and that's the thing too. Right. You know, you've got VCU team that it looked like the tent was going to be a one bid league. And then they get bounced by Rhode Island in the conference of it and people immediately discard. It team like that right or wrong. They do it. And you know, we'll see if that line women continues to play out here. But I agree that it's a fascinating game. And also, I think it's really interesting because. Duke is going to beat that VCU press, and they're probably going to beat it like a drum. I curious to see Duke against UCF with their height their length there. Let us ZIM if I'm Duke, I'd probably rather see VCU here because I think Duke can hammer them in transition. I'm not so sure that UCF is the matchup been wanting the second round. You know, that's a fan. I'd love to see do can UCF certainly the matchup that I'd want to see a lot more. And I agree with you. I think Duke would easier and easier out there against these than they would against UCS. It'd be pretty amazing matchup. These I Williamson down there against taco fall. I think that'd be pretty pretty interesting one to watch not to go off on a tangent. But vine Williamson did do is an effing man that game winning basket. He had against North Carolina. Like that was ridiculous. I mean, why is this guy have to play a year of college basketball? So stupid. Yeah..

Van and Putin reason it. Battle. Yeah. I just assume the best thing to do is to to not give people reason to think that if I would have done this. It would have worked if you know, someone we'll. Both my best bet went off of our board. We send each other the the plays of the week. The the games of the week. Really that we go over the biggest national games. This one didn't make the list, but I love this team right now. And I I love this team, especially at home VCU who's giving twelve points to Saint Louis at home. They flipped a switch since that lost to Rhode Island. They have just been dominant. Their last four home games. They've won by an average of twenty five points per game. They're sixty five percent against the spread as a home favourite since last year. I was on a big this week against George Washington. And they lead by three points at half. Mike Rhodes was pissed and even late when they were up twenty he was chewing out his backup point guard for a late turnover. He wants to just smash teams. And and I love it. And that's how they've gone to a thirteen five and one ATS Mark is a favourite Saint Louis one in four. Straight up and against the spread in their last five on the road, including an eleven point loss at Rhode Island who VCU just beat by thirty four and thirty point loss at Saint Jo's VCU sitting on a one game lead in the ten th they're and they're actually hoping to lock up an at large bid. They're fully motivated microbes wants to he wants to put his foot down on throats. This is another crazy number Saint Louis three hundred thirtieth in three point percentage in the country VCU ninth in the country at defending two point field goals. So what's what's Saint Louis? Gonna do. Are they going to go out there and Chuck up bad shots that they can't make the haven't made all season? Are they going to try to go inside with VCU where VCU just dominates? They've never won at VCU. Saint Louis has never won at VCU in five appearances the average margin in those games, seventeen points per games. I think VCU dominates from start to finish VCU minus twelve my best bet and sleep. A you also. I mean, this is unbelievable. You guys sent individual Email. And you're also wanting to talk one of the teams you wanna talk about was VCU. What's your thoughts on BBC you sleepy? I really liked this team. I I got a question for you guys. Maybe more than AJ because obviously he knows his team rather. Well, and he's been following them any chance that this team has a shot to make a deep run in the tournament. Oh, I think so. Yeah. Anything that plays that kind of kind of defense. They've got a shot to win some games. Scher VCU's pro. I mean, if they made the tournament now, they'd probably be at a ten maybe at nine seed. So you're you're talking about them playing. It gets a team like Iowa or Cincinnati or Washington. I mean, I'd take my chances with VCU against those teams for sure, you know, one of the things with VCU that I thought probably about maybe it was three games ago. Was the fact that they were like kind of like sitting on the bubble a bit..

Now, you gotta play Duke in Zion is going to beat you by twenty five or you don't just mean Duke would be VCU by twenty-five Duke is going to be favored to beat almost any eight nine team by a significant margin. And so you don't wanna lose games and drop and put yourself back on the bubble. But you just want to keep winning every game. You can't even if they're going to be quite one wins. Because maybe just somehow you can climb up to that seven line because I do think that's a much more manageable place to be than in that eight nine game. I agree with you. And they got to try and get to the seven and hope they can face a to. I think six is out. Of the question. I think even VCE runs the table asking them to get to a six six loss VCU team. Maybe maybe the last of the sixes, but I love when the love when the listeners track our stuff. So let's just real quick. You Duke second round game. We don't know who it's going to play my blind. Guess who they're going to be a one-seat? My blind guests for the Duke align someone tweet us back at this. And remind us we did on the February twentieth podcast. I will say I'll say seventeen and a half points. Duke is favored to win its second round game. You wanna live out an estimate. Let's say like fifteen right around fifteen. Okay. If it's like over eighteen that's going to be absurd. But we don't know, frankly, if it was VCU in that in that situation. Like, I totally see that being the case unquestionably..

"So the Rams are now twenty. Six overall eleven and two in the league. They were picked seventh in the preseason poll now on a seven game winning streak top forty kin palm. It's a little bit off the national radar because the Atlantic tune literally in the season does not give you an opportunity to play and beat a ranked team. They do not exist in that league. It's white really might end up being as much as I hate to say this. It might end up being a one bid league in part because Davidson is a bubble team that had a bad night on Tuesday nine, but VCU has been an incredible story. Even if it's not popping on a national radar until just now when we decided to pop it on the national radar so special shelves to Mike roads, it appears once again that you do not want to go to war with the Rams. That's right. I wish she would have trivia time me that with VCU in preseason. I probably would've guessed like fourth. I didn't realize they were that undervalued heading into the season. I don't know if you have the poll in front of you, or if you just had it for VCU purposes. But I think I think Saint Louis was the preseason pick. But I actually thought Saint Joe's would be the best team in my right on that. First off your I don't know that you're aware, but you're talking to the master of ceremonies of the Atlantic. Ten tip off media luncheon. Do you realize where of of that? Yes. Talking to the master ceremony on a business card. I haven't I have the card maybe tweeted it or something because it did say master of ceremonies, Gary Parrish, which I thought was that was nice. I liked the title. Saint Louis was picked I in the league followed by Saint Joseph's, boy, you talk if VCU's the good story in the Saint Joe's is the other one, right? I mean, the bad one. Yes. The been weird and bizarre. But VCU fans we're here for you. I know you're you're heavy contingent. Maybe maybe a little surprised we're giving your team some love. But right now with what happened on set on Saturday on Tuesday night. It is getting late this podcast might get a little frisky. Davidson had a shot Grady took I think GP you're in in studio seesaw. It was a great who had that three point attempt at the buzzer fall. It was. Yeah. So that's the guy that you won't take them that shot. It just doesn't fall Davidson is now in my in. My estimation is just missed too many opportunities here to have a viable at large case in relation to the rest of the field. You gotta.

"I have to think it'll be better than it spends. So far the thing that I'm interested in here is Mississippi. State whether they can bounce back this Mississippi State team played well this year, then they lose in overtime without their line. I mean that really they wouldn't was and then they knew the home to Mississippi. They need to bounce back here they need this one. But Florida coming off a disappointing loss to Tennessee. I think this is a really fascinating handicapped here, you know, my lean would be taking Florida, plus the points. I don't know how many points are going to be able to get think the odds makers know that Florida's better than their record. So, you know, you're not gonna get anything like Florida plus five and a half. I don't think that's going to happen. But if you can get Florida, plus a full possession, you get three or three and a half that would be my lean in this game. I think that Mississippi State still has to show that you know, they can consistently be a good team, Florida. Like, I said if played poorly this year, but Mike whites have very good coach they've been very good. The last couple of years that would be my lean in this game. All right. So let's move out to the eight ten here and the eight ten is it's difficult. Conference to figure out right now. I mean, I'm not really sure there's a standout team. There's some pretty good teams. There's some pretty bad teams here to of we're going to talk about Dayton and VCU here in this one this game coming up on Wednesday night Dayton out on the road in the Commonwealth. Yeah. You know, there's a couple of reasons I wanna talk about this. When first of all, I think that VCU defense this year just out of this world good. I can't believe how well they keep playing on defense. If you looked at them last year they were one hundred and fifty six and defense efficiency two hundred nine ineffective field goal percentage defense. What are they here? They're six and third and there's two categories. I keep thinking it's gonna fall off. I still think it probably will, you know. But this VCU defense is clearly much improved on offense. They're still playing fast. But they they are not efficient on offense. They didn't kind of the opposite. You know, Dayton's of teams various issues on offense there. Okay. On defense and not bad. They were fairly inexperienced team. However, Dayton has some quality talent, Dave recruited. Well, VCU is is not that experienced either. They have a really deep bench is their biggest plus to me my lean here. It would be to play the over thinking that VCU is not going to keep that defense going quite as good as it's been and Dayton's proven that they can be very efficient on often. It's if you look at Dayton. I mean, they've been scoring decent amount of points pretty consistently. You know, they haven't had very many games at all where they don't score many points against Oklahoma against Virginia. They didn't score much. But I mean, nobody scores very much, especially if you're an eight ten team get seems like that. So if we get a low enough number here, I would lean toward taking me over. Well, and you look at this situation here for Dayton only their second true road game since early December the only their third true road game of the season here for Dayton. They played at Auburn, then they played at George Washington last Wednesday. So you mentioned it would've been younger team here. And you know, sometimes those younger teams, you know, not to say that they're all going to fall flat going on the road. But you get a little nervous you little jumpy. Maybe this is again, it's got a little bit more tempo to it as well. Because you know, you look at some of their games here. Very up and down from tempo standpoint, almost as the other team kinda dictating how the game flow goes. Yeah. That's exactly the point that I would make is that Dayton seems to be a team. Let's see other team dictate tempo. And I think that's something. That's actually a really good point. I I know that we've been running for a little while now. So I I won't say too much about it. But that's something that we can talk about in depth in the future..

"The last two games one for ten from three point line. Then you have a point guard is one four he's got plays place. Thirty five minutes a game has to assist the game. Saying like, there's a self. There's something like I always said this, and I'm going back, and this is actually I guess, I guess I'm a front runner. So maybe it was after shocker went to the final four. But I I've said this forever about Brad Stevens and shock smart. If you're gonna hire somebody higher one of those two guys, and I went way back on that. But man, you look at Texas. And you say this is not this is not who they have been or teams have been under shocker, right? I mean, let me ask you this. Do you think that job like here's my take on that shock smart coached his team at VCU and coached a guys that he had in a certain manner. And I mean, he coached shows guys hard, but passionately with energy know, he still scrape passion, great energy cares. He loves you think because it's Texas Texas football goes through they get these Texas dudes, they're hyped up their highly recreate recruited they have reputations. And you wanna get the next Texas guys. Well, so you you're forced to almost coach out of your comfort zone, which is huge mistake as opposed to saying shocked smarts. The greatest of all time is unbelievable. Communicate a great teacher cares. Loves brilliant. Very bright. But like you don't like shocker smart as a player. That's your problem not his problem. But do you think sometimes as a coach the job, the, you know? The pressures of recruiting all of a sudden you change because maybe you're a little more sensitive, and you know, I would say afraid to coach him, but you coach them differently. Like, he coached his his teams had an edge. I mean, he didn't wanna pull you don't wanna play against those teams. I look at the Texas teams. And they're not a team. You would wanna play against even though. The more talent accents. Yeah. No. I totally agree. I look you're so much more in the eye of everyone around you like, let's be honest. He was taking guys that were really good at VCU. But they it wasn't going to be national news or statewide news. If they didn't get him. Right. I mean, so no, I get your point. And I I don't know if that's it or not I look maybe just got the wrong guys. I don't know. But I know this. Saga smart coats, as you said all the nice things about but to this point right now, it ain't working like it worked early in the year, but ain't working right now. And I hate to say that because I love the guy great guy lasting over. Last night big five one there. I think twenty four th straight big five game, which is crazy really cool thing that Jay Wright. They'd prior to the game. It was at Villanova the quote unquote Finn, and he asked temple Villanova. Saint Joe's Villanova everyone villanovan Philly in the big five is crazy crazy rivalry great greatest tradition. In college basketball. You think about the sacrifices that say Villanova makes to play the four other big five teams? But. Jay Wright.

"Carol drops to one and two. My victory. I like just about everything Celtic tonight. Did a lot of really good things. A lot of really good things. Solid. Didn't turn it over to much shot at extremely well. Defensively. There's some transition baskets early right in the first half and those six or eight points and upon him at the end, you gotta get back with a better defensively. But a lot of good things to talk about. And then they're going to face either VCU or temple tomorrow. Those teams getting ready to play right now. Temple is four. No Fran Dunphy their longtime. Head coach has been in the Philadelphia area for ever you got that. Right. Retiring at the end of the season. This is his last go around their foreign other beat LaSalle Detroit. Mercy Georgia and Loyola Maryland. Meanwhile, VCU. Went to the final four about the what seven years ago a shock. Yep. They have defeated Gardner Webb Hampton by eleven points. I wanna say pretty close game and bowling green, all of those by ten or more points there. Three knows. Well, so whoever the bears face tomorrow. Well, suffered their first loss of the year tonight. Well, you know, it was certainly is fun. It was exciting going on good energy in this building wonderful place to play basketball the Barclay center. We'll have plenty talked about as their take on either VCU or temple, and I don't want to get into an in depth discussion tonight. But tomorrow, we're going to talk about when the players wanted their shorts to be short. They see pulling them over down downward all trending back to the Chris Mullin how we're not gonna go as far back as Larry Bird magic. But what we're shortening things up here. They are this, of course, is the fashion capital of the United States. Right. So maybe somebody at one of the stylists or one of his designers will take notice in short. No things up. I hope now I take what gets underway..

"They have some interesting games early to talk about the chance to be the hot seat. They played North Carolina November twenty second, and we will be at that game that will be in Las Vegas. And then if depending on what happens there that we their play Michigan state of UCLA. So we're going to get some early tests if they get beat in both those games people will have some questions, and then VCU the game that I'm religion VCU comes to texts there that home at home thing shock, they come to Austin, December fifth and BC is going to be a fun team to watch. And if if shock loses to his former team in Texas in awesome, whether or not selling out like they be with these tickets and all this stuff that seems like after that run we could get some real it's going on at Texas conversation. He's still has five years left on his contract. I twenty twenty two twenty five years left on his guy. I don't think he's going to fire this year, unless like some I mean, I I you never say never, you know, you don't know what's gonna happen. But assuming they go five hundred and the big twelve. And make DNC tournament. He's not getting fired. I I don't think it's five hundred get enough. No, it's not. But I think he's always got the next like Andrew Jones having leukemia. Last year is is a legitimate thing. And like even he was their leading scorer leukemia. And and I I was the first northern Iowa Jespersen shot. So he's had some like you look at that tournament that things have happened. Like, just like the whole Tim miles thing is like shock and always just be like wait till you know, the pieces are there. Just let let me just give me some just got it. Yeah. Yeah. That said I was very frustrated with mogambo less. You're like wish could do with mobile. I was I was down on mobile all the way through the draft. I don't know is he is he playing while the. I was I was frustrated with like every time. I'd watch textiles like this mobile because not that good. And then suddenly we watched him some really like holy shit. He's pretty good. And I don't know if that speaks WALDO shock zone, but it's more of shock is running shock system. And he's getting these five star guys. And that's not really his brand which comes back to you got to have a culture. You gotta have a plan. You gotta have a brand and Chaka's plan on both sides. We you know, we've talked about the stuff with the FBI. But when you're trying to get these bigger crews, and you're trying to care to them. But you're also trying to run a press like. Up-tempo frenzy defense and like have a bunch of gritty guys. It doesn't always is not one to one of the times. He he never should've VCU. I know he's he's coming back is going on with the top shock is going back to VCU. I'm already set on it. I can't wait till he should he. Absolutely. Should he's going to. I'm glad he got his money. I'm glad he got his his Ervin. That's all you need is living the dream. Kevin alley so pissed right. Speaking of Forty-one-year-old, head coaches in college basketball, our next team number thirty nine is the team coached by the next head coach of your Duke blue devils, Mike white, Mike, white the Florida Gators. He one month older than shock a smart. And he is good. Yes. He's a great coach they are forty eight and twenty one in the past two years and they finished in the AP top twenty five the past two years. And when you watch this Florida team, it feels like every single year. I'm like, wow, they have a bunch of good players like if you have any Robinson. You know, what I mean like from a few years ago? It's like this guy's an NBA player. Now is on the wizards. And he didn't really do much at Florida. But guys you're young to be fair last year..

"But I remember at the time being like, well my mind, I it's just connected dot com. That's pretty much all it is. So they. Richmond virginia. VCU shock is Mark coach there he took him in the final four that's pretty much. If you ask the general basis of VCU person. That's where they're going to say, they're probably not going to know that the the mascot there. Basically, you MBC like wooing you will be ten years from now he'll blow you know, what I mean like load Lloyd grown they're going. They're going to grow. And I'm telling you you make programs off one tournament run these days VCU's, great. They have one of the best rivalries. They have more than one. They beat Duke. Erik be Duke. They went to the fun. That's tournament thousand six turnament. I loved it. Yeah. Sorry. Sorry. So twenty sixteen my question to you is do you know who the coach VCU is microbes shit. I don't think people know, Mike roads. I almost lived in Richmond. I'm close to Virginia close to buy. Here's my question because I talk I generally don't have an opinion yet. And I need I need some help. I need some clarification. Are we do we believe in microbes? No because I was looking up. Mike roads. I was looking up as his past. He's a division three coach for nine years. He then becomes shock a smart desisted, which you know, the shock again. We've we've we've made the the jokes before they're like the shock run VCU is is over inflated by one final four appearance that now when you look back you're like I thought it was better than that. I thought the actually had more success than just that one. But it turns out kind of not. Then he goes the rice for three years is forty seven and fifty two isn't even five hundred rice. And then he gets hired of VCU. And that's like that's his track record. He's division. Three coach has a losing record rice. And then goes to you. And I'm not saying, I don't I'm just saying. I look at that. I'm like, I have some questions. So do you believe in this, man? Yeah. The answers are we're still trying to build off the shock a smarter. And I don't think that's a good formula for success and. Did they have the havoc brand is that? So the thing for them. Yeah. I think the defense right there. Yeah. Yeah. But that's yeah. That's not a good thing. We don't we don't want. That shock is thing like the havoc thing. But I here's what I think. I think I mean, we'll save Texas talk. I think that Mike roads could be whatever he is until shocker comes back comes back with a vengeance. You have so many VCU conspiracies. I love it shock. I should come back. I don't disagree. He was perfect there. He just wanted to get get the money and commit? Yeah. Exactly. Go to Texas. Get pay come back. Charlie strong, it there you go. And then they also VCU before we move onto the finished seventh in the eight ten eight ten in general is such a fun conference is for people that really if you are one of the you don't you probably listen this podcast. But if you hate the blue bloods, and you're just like, all right, whatever big time basketball, watch the ATM. It's amazing. They they tend is like what is great in college basketball there. These are great coaches, the people that go that go nuts for all the the the the guys who stay for years and playing for the love of the game. And all that stuff. If you're one of those people go watch, the that's the that's the best converse to follow for that kind of stuff number seventy the best team in the country last year Tate thought for at least one game the best player in the country. Fletcher McGee and the Wofford terriers. I'll tell you a story personal story about Wofford, I've only been to Wofford one time in my life..

"I like this. So this goes all. Okay. So why? But why the question then becomes why VCU I, I'm with you on the conspiracy because we have we have three or four data points. That's all you need for a conspiracy. But then we gotta fill in the rest. Why? VCU? Because it comes back to the crux of all college, basketball conversations public schools. I private schools and rivalries the greatest rivalry outside of, you know, do Carolina. It just in that region of the world. Richmond VCU is far as heated people upset. People fans in the stands. People take him pride in it. Different classes between the VCU people in the Richmond people in the private school. In the public school, it created too much and Richmond's able to get private private. You know, that can bring these books VCU's like I won't scheme from Wake Forest. I wanted to transfer in case. I don't like grand, went transparent and and and they started this whole thing. So that's when it all happened. It was public or private. It goes all the way back to the sixties. They're probably watching it up India right now. So that's where it is. So, so I've already done your whole thing for you. You gotta go to VCU, give them the death penalty in college. Basketball is fixed visa fan, so you're listening to this like, odd kidding. Now you're. VCU fan out there like pressing play on this podcast. He's reading the description. It's talking about Zion, Bill self. He's like, ooh, this is going to be this. What What the fuck. the fuck what is happening. Blame for everything. I did exactly what the is going to all of this. That is how they are going to piece it together. And then when you ask them, they're just going to play videos of Condoleeza Rice, just making faces like doom. That sucks. That hurts hate to see that. So how does how does the VCU the tie in with the your, your German, your is going after Adidas, a working here we go. These use a Nike school through separate Masic conspiracies. We got tied them together. We'll write a book about it and so millions. Yes, that'd be great. And then we'll, we'll go through ABC and we'll we'll be there and test how close Richmond in DC. Like twenty minutes. Yeah, about twenty five. That's. That's too the theory twenty minute drive from Richmond to DC where it's all about proximity payments. Interesting. This is all assuming that college, you know you were talking about what is going to do what college basketball is going to look like, but this is all assuming that college basketball exists. Eight. Yes, because I have my doubts that college basketball even be around next season because news broke today that the NBA is willing to pay. What was what was the? What was the phrasing like selective select contracts, highschool guys, basically the NBA is to chicken shit to do with the one and done real. Oregon's they can. I guess the CPA has to run out I. But anyway, this is there like go around to allow guys to come out of high school. Meanwhile, the renegotiate the CBA was in thousand eleven two thousand twelve when everyone's like, hey, what about that one? And don't then do like, sorry, we're sorry. Sorry. Did you see Anthony Davis? We're sorry. Yes. So the. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. The the players can now go straight on high school to the in the pay. Them one hundred twenty five thousand dollars. If if you're if you're an elite prospect in this is basically long story, short college, basketball is going to be dead because guys are not going to play college basketball more. They're going to go straight to the Jesus for year bitcoin or twenty five grand. Be able to sign all these tore Smith's. I'm sorry. A case as as the ideas being taught them, and then they're gonna go pro and college basketball as we noticed that Tate. That's the story right Slough. So so you're telling me the NBA is going to get lauded and applauded for basically saying, you know, remember when Michael Jordan was all mad that he drafted Kwami Brown out of high school, I and paid them all these millions of dollars, and everyone in Washington was like, why are we losing money on a guy? And why do we get this high school kid? And this is ridiculous. We've got to get rid of this. We gotta figure something else out and they're like, what about this? What did they have to play thing about the thing about it?.

"That's a guy that we have some interest in so guy that talked to Zion who, as you were saying earlier, we're do on the two thousand twenty two national title, and then different guy came in not long after that capable comes in, and then they start knocking out of the park. The recruiting thing capabilities did what's the recruiting guys look like next year and no one. Interesting. Yeah, I think they got one yet, but doesn't count. Yeah, does not to me, doesn't count them if you round down. But that's a zero ten. What is one time. Zero. So Jeff, capable, original Bagai one of star. This show he's VCU. He started out what's another team that came up in this whole situation, Texas shock, smart of UCLA where he was VCU. Where did he go to final four? Where's he not going now final four words he trying to go again, probably elite eight at best at Texas. He's gonna try. So he's in there, he's involved. And then number three, this is so get two strikes at this point, right? Looking at you VCU looking at Richmond is all goes back to Richmond, goes all the way this up all the way to the Richmond, Virginia, and just trying to be the Richmond spiders trying to get it figured out. Number three will Wade, just VCU goes down to LSU. He's only he's like even know the kid that they were trying to get him to get. He's like, I is it the big kid, like I mean, yeah, sure. He's pretty shit. Shit Did. did. So all three VCU guys, all implicated in some level, who did VCU be in the twenty eleven lead to go to the final four. Whoa, Kansas. Yes. Bill self. Yes. It comes full circle. So do you think do you think that Bill is just been? He's been in a war with these you ever since. Oh my God and all the and all the little people that have gone elsewhere. "And so so long story short, two years at UF, perfect timing. We get. We win the first national championship coach. Grant, the assistant head coach gets offered the job at VCU. I'm starting. I'm going to graduate now. So he's asking like who he's asking, Matt, who he should, you know, bring on on my gosh. So that's like, take Danny. So I went to VCU owes has trained codes for VCU lower basketball, and I got. That's not that probably that long before they became a real presence in the ROY basketball, I will say, for sure we started. Yeah, nothing Melander. You was like back. I mean, they had just capable who was like a bad. You know, it was an awesome basketball player, but they had been to the, they weren't really NCWA writers, right? But when we went, we we, we broke every record in school history conference history. We beat Duke in the tournament which hadn't been done since eighty forty five. And of course we had our conference ring and everything, and they wrote an article on my training methods in the in the Richmond times dispatch. And you know, we just rewrote everything VCU. And then of course, coach shocker took him to the final four. Yeah, but he had long ago now it's five, five years probably like five or six years because we, I was there a six or seven and until the trailing. Into seven. So I got outta strength and conditioning after like about a year and a half because you know, I was starting to think about, I wasn't making that much money and and I had already, my parents had already freaked out that. I wanted to be a strength coach in the first place. Yeah, they're like you. What are you doing with this education that you have imagined that I told you? My dad's back home and they're like, we, you went to Columbia. You wanna be a coach. I'm here like I'm like, listen, I I can put on a suit. I can do anything if I want to have that education, let me just pursue this, you know. And I did and I and I don't regret it one bit. I got out in at the end of seven, and I started to do. Personal training just to pay the bills while I try to get like a pharmaceutical rep job, that's what I wanted to do. So I was like, got into pharmacy sales did that for few years and did medical device. That's what I've been doing this whole time. And you know this whole time I'm competing in cross fit. I'm finding different things to to fulfill that gap that I lost with football. I got into powerlifting in two thousand thirteen, and I should also back up because we're talking about Kito too. So I did paleo starting in two thousand eleven, and I really felt good with paleo. Just focusing on the quality of food real food. My wife and I both did it, and and then when I got into powerlifting it's a whole different story. Like you're kind of encouraged to eat a pizza, all the cards, all the guards. I, I ate all the carbs and my wife's and she does everything with me. She had other carbs and she doesn't do well with carbs at all. I can do good with anything. You know, I'm very metabolic flexible, but I will say that I feel. Better with Kito, but I did. I did the carbs and I did powerlifting and I felt great. And then fast forward or two thousand sixteen I'm like, beat up from powerlifting. I have to pull out of my last meat because I got my Mariah back in. I have a torn meniscus.
