"And that's intentional listeners when our minds are just drawn to those healthy fats, those healthy foods those real foods, that's intentional. Our body wants it and it knows it wants it. So we talked about the food. We talked about drinking lots of water in limiting the process cards and sugar that feed UTI. So let's talk about supplements, the ways that you can give additional support. We always say probiotics. So instead of antibiotics, probiotics. So get the right bacteria decrease the wrong ones in your body will take care of a lot of those infections. So we talk about bifida balance, which is a great probiotic that's a good intra probiotic for most people, has lots of benefits. And then we also talk about acidophilus, which is the one that helps with acid loving types of infections. And those are two of our master strains. So starting with those are really gentle for our clients. And so starting a mile before each meal is what I do so they have a steady stream of them all day. But we found that probiotics help prevent reoccurring UTIs from many women, and many of you may have heard us say that probiotic comes from the word for life. And antibiotic means against life will probiotics help that

"So I challenge you when you have that start with real food. Start with, like we said, the ham around apple slices with some cream cheese or some Cheddar cheese. Have that, and then see how your body and your brain respond, and you might be surprised that you don't need to make those multiple trips in the evening. Mmm um. Do you feel better? You'll feel better. The body gives a big and that's why we go back to the beginning where we're saying we're not about restriction or calories or actually about feeding people more because when you eat the right stuff and nourish your body, it might be more food or more calories, but when your body feels like it's nourished, it performs the way that it wants to. And again, your body will take care of you. So instead of thinking, oh, I'm deprived of these things. Focus more on, I'm going to nourish myself first. And then I'll decide. Yep. Exactly. Start with the nourishment. Yeah. So we're ready for a break three already? The time is not going to be a messy. "These UTIs. Remember, the pain and the discomfort of a urinary tract infection and suddenly that high sugar coffee is not really so tempting anymore. The sugar you just think, okay, is this worth the pain I could be enduring in a few days? Yeah, it goes back to that why that we always talk about, you know, we all need a why to understand is it worth taking these things out and anybody that's had a UTI can say, yep, that's a big enough why. That pain really motivates change. It's unfortunate, but it is. Sometimes that's sometimes that's what it takes for us. And yeah, the sugar thing is huge. And so someplace that I know I start with clients smell that seems to work with live clients. And this is both for UTIs as well. As just any metabolism, sugar metabolism is really focused on your first meal. And your last meal of the day, right? Because when we're not eating, so in that fasting time between our last meal in our first meal is when your body is doing multiple healing, right? So we want to allow that healing to take place. And if we're stressing our body out with our first meal or last meal with more additional sugars, that might be contributing to information or to these UTIs, it makes it so kind of doing an uphill battle. So one thing we can do is just really balance our breakfast and evening snack. If you can start somewhere, you don't start with one or both of those things. And what balance looks like would be like the farmer style breakfast, you know? So we always talk about the eggs and the sausage and veggies cooked in that

"Come from. Well, it's usually from bacteria in fecal matter, and it travels to the area around 75% of the time that unfriendly bacteria is E. coli. So E. coli is that pathogen that we just talked about. Yes. And E. coli is everywhere, many of you listeners have probably heard of E. coli. And so when it ends up in your feces and with your feces being close to the urethra, sometimes they just kind of combine space. And if we don't have the right stuff to fight off that E. coli, then it attaches, and it can cause problems like UTIs. And most of you know if you've experienced UTI or know somebody who has that the conventional treatment is going to be a round of antibiotics. If they occur and reoccur, which they often do, that's what we usually see. And you're taking antibiotic after antibiotics. Some people even take antibiotics as a prevention for UTIs, like it's prescribed to take it because they might get UTIs drink certain times or certain seasons. And so they might be taken an antibiotic. Of course, if we do that over and over again, we could become antibiotic resistant. You know, jolene, can I pop in here? Yeah. I had a client who had chronic urinary tract infections or this sensation that she had chronic urinary tract infections. So she had a lot of other things going on, but they ended up putting her on low dose antibiotics every day and a bladder spasm medication. Well, once we work together, God are eating real food, got her off the sugar, got some good probiotics into her, which we're gonna talk about later. In three, and we removed some other foods that were problematic, but within three months, she was off all her prescription medication, and she's urinary tract infection free, and that's what we want is to bring comfort analysis. That's amazing. That's amazing.

"We'll be right back. Welcome back. So moving forward, listeners, urinary tract infections seems to be a tongue twister. So when we say UTI, that's what we're talking about. Urinary tract infection. I love the abbreviations. They help. They help those all become awful, especially in the morning. And then the military you're used to those acronyms. For those of you lucky listeners that have never had a urinary tract infection, you may be wondering what are some symptoms of having a UTI. Let me read you a list and you might have some of these and maybe some you don't. So you may have burning or pain when you urinate? You might have cloudy urine or a strong smell, feeling like you can not void completely. Sometimes you see blood in the urine, you can, it can advance to where you have fevers and chills. And most concerning and elderly, they may not experience any symptoms, but they would have confusion. And so they bring them loved ones bring them to the doctor, and then they say, oh, they have a urinary tract infection. So if your caretaker of someone who's older, now you know. Yeah, that's great to say that because like everything we do around nutrition and health, it's very individual. But no matter who you are, what UTIs don't discriminate.

"There's certainly things that dietitians do that nutritionists don't do. Like I don't do, I didn't learn about IV therapies or some of the food safety and science that I took dietetics person would. But we both have to get state license and go through that licensure and we both have to do the same amount of internship or clinical hours to get licensed. So it's really just a little bit of like what you focus on in the education that's different. The pathway to get there, but we're both all about the food helping the client. Exactly. Yep. And I think it's awesome to have such a array of dieticians and nutritionists and nutritional weight wellness because like with many things, those differences in different backgrounds just give clients more of a broad spectrum of people that they can talk to and things that we can bring and we help each other out with. When we talk with each other, right? We do when we have weekly meetings and it's great because we can glean from each other different perspectives so you can come back fully fueled for your clients and feel like you can bring the best forward. So I know I've got several people that I'll text. Yes. Oh yes, we all are on a text chain and sometimes you're like, oh, sorry, I didn't know it was 10 o'clock at night. It's a Sunday. I have a question. Yes, so you would agree. Yeah, what a great thing. That's just so many knowledgeable people and I love that we have all different experiences to really help each other out. And that helps our clients. Nutritional weight and wellness has a great community. Both in the professionals, but also in our clients, our clients become part of our community. So it's been great.

"Lose some weight and get healthy. But today, I want to address the many women who I have worked with who experience frequent urinary tract infections. About 60% of women will experience a urinary tract infection or a UTI at some time in their life. Miserable. Today, jolene and I will be addressing both the foods to eat and the supplements to take to keep urinary traction, urinary tract infections away. If you've ever had one, that's the goal. So joining me today as our co host is jolene Carlson, welcome jolene to this very important show. It's so fun to see you face to face. You live, oh gosh, eons away, don't you? Not eons. It's so worth the trip. It's so great to see you two, male. It's fun. And often jolene, as you know, we try to motivate listeners to give up junk food and process carbs and eat real natural foods that occur in nature are found on the farm. For example, rather than potato chips, we say eat a half a cup of cooked real potatoes with butter. Nobody's suffering there. Instead of a bowl of breakfast cereal, we suggest a couple of eggs cooked in butter with a small side of hash brown potatoes. Also cooked in butter, yum.

"Our food, and is used by the small intestinal tract. And when I'm working with a client, you know, I'll often adjust these up or down. There might be more individualized recommendations. Once we know the whole big picture of what's going on. You know, and I think a bonus, I had a client who was having so many troubles not only with constipation, but urinary tract infections. And so when we got her on the right amount of acidophilus, which you mentioned is important for bladder. Not only did her stools correct, but she stopped having urinary tract infections, so she. She loved me. She did, yeah, acidophilus is amazing for that too. Well, we often add GLA, which is gamma linoleic acid. It's a fatty acid that helps heal and hydrate the whole intestinal tract. The bonuses makes your skin soft. And I usually recommend four to 6 soft gels taken throughout the day, GLA is an anti aging fatty acid because it supports all of the tissues in your body. If you've got cracked heels, this is wonderful. I also add about four to 6 omega three fish oil soft gels to reduce the inflammation of the intestinal tract. Now this is a healing protocol, right? Now let's talk about what to eat. Brittany, let's go over some great ideas for a safe and effective eating plan for breakfast, lunch, dinner. You always have such great meal ideas. Oh gosh, I don't know, but that. Well, let's talk about what we ate this week. Because it's top of mind. This week I made the hamburger soup recipe from our website. Love that. It's delicious. And it's very forgiving. You can add the vegetables you want to use up? Yeah, oh, yeah. I've made it many times and varied it. It's wonderful. And then for the healthy fat, I usually add some avocado on top. And then I just made a huge pot. So some days I had it for lunch, sometimes I had it for dinner.

"Feel better. Oh, that's polyphenols. They're gone. Right, exactly. Sorry, I didn't mean to get a soft track. Not at all. So stress management. And then what do we cover all three? Toxins? The environment. Mold. And heavy metals. Heavy metals. The direction we were going around stress management and really what I think is valuable about marama and even your care facility is community. Right. And this opportunity, especially with COVID, right? We see the detrimental effects of isolation, especially from a peer group. And how yeah, just demoralizing, of course, the depression, anxiety, and cognitive function, but we have even seen it when people need to be isolated at morama. There's an increased fall risk. There's an increased risk of urinary tract infections. There's an increased risk of disorientation of sleep disturbances, right? So it's not just the cognitive or the mental health that depression anxiety of isolation. They're just physical. Things that happen. Great. And so community having people to celebrate with, having people to look forward to holidays with, having those memories be made that shared experience is we are social creatures. Right. And when we don't have that, which a lot of societies kind of set up for us to just be in front of our phones and pretty isolated from that interaction regardless of your age, but especially as we age after retirement or nowadays with so many people not going into the office. It's very easy for someone to just become very disconnected. And that our brains do not thrive on that. Right, definitely. I agree. 110%. Yes, I will not share my examples, but yes, I have my own experiences that during and post COVID went from kind of an extrovert to an introvert literally. Even though I was always liked, I needed space away from people at certain times. I went from I went to almost not wanting to go out at all to be in public spots. And it wasn't fear of getting COVID. It was just more of this. I don't know, just this withdrawal or in this kind of introverted. And so it's taken a while to still not there to actually be like, oh, yeah, I do want to go to that party or I do want to go out and do whatever. It's like, I'll just stay at home with the fam. Yeah, the social anxiety. I don't remember how to hug..

"Intuitive and I help clients reprogram re pattern the physical mental emotional spiritual patterns that are creating illness in the body. And so what happens in a breakthrough session blind spot bake through session is it's an intuitive session in that my gifts are being able to hone in on the exact mental emotional and spiritual causes of the physical illnesses and so your body does know how to be healthy and if it's not, it's because there is an imbalance in the energy and really this is what I call a psycho energetic approach so it's the mind truly mind body approach to healing the psycho part is the subconscious mind the unconscious minds role that is played out in creating the illness, okay? And so this particular session, I was speaking with a client, I've known her for many, many years. I've worked with her on and off for several years for various different ailments. She came to me for problems and concerns around cystitis, which is inflammation in the bladder, right? It's been ongoing now for four years. It's getting worse and worse and worse. It started out as just UTIs as urinary tract infections. And she wanted to get to the core cause of it. Now she's got the tools, but sometimes we just get so locked into our thinking in our patterns and our programming in our fear, right? Because this is what is pretty much in the mainstream. It's all about fear. We are not taught that we actually have control over our health and well-being in our illness and, of course, in the last few years, it's only that programming has only gotten worse. I'm giving you some insights and breaking down this session about this and giving you what it looks like in a session. What it looks like to move through the idea of having control over your body, what the root core cause is, and then what is the solution? How does one go about healing? So in this particular case with this young woman, what came up in her session was, first of all, I looked at having been a nurse and having been a clinical practitioner and also an Ayurvedic and an energy medicine practitioner for many, many years. That's where I start. So those are the first two pieces, so we're looking at the bladder, which is related to feelings and emotions, right? It has the water it has the fluid element when the bladder and the urinary tract system is functioning properly, we go to the bathroom and everything flows smoothly. So we want to ask the question why is it not flowing smoothly.

"Of toys that are away from you. We need to do that for at least at least twice a day, three times a day, 5 to 15 minutes per session. Yeah, that's fine. Scratch post isn't a very interactive thing. So it's only going to keep her interested for a short period of time. So what I'm talking about is actually scheduling playtime where you have a toy or toys generally we have to switch it up with cats. And schedule playtime and if she starts to get agitated, she starts to get to where she wants to bite, then we stop. But if we don't expand this energy, she is just going to find the opportunity. And it's going to come out when you don't want it. So that would be my thing. It's a prescription for trying to tire this baby out and give her what she's lacking in her household situation. She doesn't have a friend to play with. She just has you, and she has half of her days. She wants to spend hunting. So let's give her that opportunity. And then hopefully you won't become the hunted object. It sounds like you're a great cat owner. It sounds like you're very attentive to your cat. I am. I really am. I love her a lot. And you're very real news. Yes. One of the pieces of news you can't miss that came out this last week. Was talking about the pentobarbital being found in several major brands of food. A pet food. And it probably got your attention. You probably said, okay, do I have this food? Am I feeding my animal this food? And chances are really good that you might be feeding your animals some food that it's been tainted. That's at least according to Jacqueline Bowen. She works with the clean label project. She is no stranger to animal radio and she'll be coming on telling us a little bit about the whole pentobarbital thing and how it ends up in your dog food or speculation as to how it ends up in your dog food. Also, we're going to have the UTI doctor on. What? You got to call the UTI doctor. Apparently that stands for urinary tract infections. These are big deals, aren't they, doctor? They sure are. I didn't know we had a UTI Doc. He says that your cats could get this urinary tract infection through stress. They could be stressed out and they can get this infection. Is that correct? You know what? I had a cat today with what I suspect is this stress this status or what we call sterile cystitis. And it really freaks people out when we say, hey, we didn't find any bacteria, but they don't understand how it could still happen. This is probably the number one cause of straining cats with bloody urine in my practice. Okay. So we'll talk to UTI in a few minutes with doctor Tony buffington, the UTI doctor right here on animal radio. Lori, what are you working on over there in the newsroom? Well, if you think that you might be the only one who loves your pet more than another person in your life. You are wrong. Really? We've got the results of a brand new study that's out on this and how much we love our pets coming up. Hey, Vaughn, how are you doing? Pretty good. Where are you calling from? I just went through, I'm going through needles, California. Okay, well, you are on with doctor Debbie, who are we talking about today? The cat or the dog. The cat. Okay, what's up with your cat? Okay, we live in one place, and we decided players. So you're getting out and put another modular unit in but before we moved over the modular unit saint Machiavelli, urinate in the floor all the time in Holland. Now he's wanting to go in the living room. Okay. And when he's urinating, where is he urinating exactly in the center of the room against the walls and the corners? Basically about any order he decides to have really direction that he wants to fight one time it can be in the middle of the floor or one time to be close to the wall one time it can be up against the washer dryer. Okay. And does the key to go outside or are we just staying inside? Inside. Okay. And is he a neutered kitty? Has he been altered? Very good. And do you have other cats running around the house too or just him? I got Matt 9 other ones outside. Holy cow. Yeah. Now do any of those cats come inside? Well, they sneak in. Okay. Alrighty. Now, is there anything else going on with the kitty that has you concerned anything else as far as not feeling right? Any kind of discoloration to his urine? Does it seem like he's peeing excessively or is it about his normal amount? Things about normal is like, you know, get upset and that's why. It sounds like we've lost we've lost von. Yeah, we've lost him. He was on his cell there. Hopefully he's listening. But this is a problem that we've had around the animal radio studios. There's so many cats outside that the cat's inside spray to mark their territory. I believe that's what's going on. Could that be what's going on with him? Absolutely. It's a very confusing situation when he's got different signals and different thoughts. Cats that are indoors can live a happy indoor existence, but when we start to have personalities and cats that they're seeing and smelling that live outside, then there's a whole territory kind of question. So it's very possible that your kitty could be having problems where he's trying to mark his turf. I first want to make sure we don't have a health problem and you always should have a urine check to make sure we don't have any infections or stones or problems of those natures. But boy, it really sounds like he has the possibility that he is just frustrated. So we really need to figure out some way to accommodate his world differently. We would want to either keep the blinds closed, keep the other cats out and let him live his happy indoor existence. Or make an accommodation where we've got a certain cat that stays inside with him. There's so much that goes into the marking of their territory that some cats will spray on corners, some will spray in the middle of the floor. Others will go into bathtubs and sometimes right in front of your very face. So I'd really want to make sure that we kind of block the scenario where these other cats could be seeing your kitty. And then at the same time, make sure everything's kosher with that litter box because if it stinks, your cat's not going to want to use it. So you want to make sure you change the litter frequently. Sometimes we'll even play around with the litter types and try some different varieties.

"That they put in the litter box. That's right, because no one wants their home to smell like kitty litter, especially as it gets colder and we spend more time inside. And that's why now's the perfect time to switch to pretty litter. Pretty litters ultra observing crystals trap odor instantly. I got it in my litter box right now. The cats use it. I don't smell a thing. It's lightweight. It's easy to scoop. A lot of odor protection and you know what? On top of all of that, it's got a little extra bonus and then it tells me that Wally and are healthy. That's right. They're crystals as up to a month, which means less scooping and fewer trips to the garbage can. And hey, if your garbage cans outside, you don't want to go outside in the cold and drop off some dookie, some cat dookie. No. And otherwise, garbage cans inside, you want that smell to be contained, baby, and that's what pretty little does. Pretty litter super light crystal base also minimizes mess and dust, your allergies will thank you, which is a big deal for me. You don't get that dust floating around. You don't get that tracking. It just works. And here's the coolest thing about pretty litter. And here's the coolest thing about pretty litter, I said it earlier, it changes colors to help detect early signs of potential illness in my cats Wally and Irma who I love dearly, including urinary tract infections and kidney issues. And you know, that's important to me Wally and in my mind still babies. They're turning 6 this year, though. And you gotta watch out for them. I want these two to be around for the long haul, so their health is important to me. And pretty letter gives me peace of mind knowing that they're okay. And guess what? Pretty little ships for free to my door in a small lightweight bag. That's right. I never run out of it, and I don't have a huge container of litter taking up space and stinking up my place. It's a win win. So make the switch to pretty litter today like me. It's just good sense. "And I was certainly one of those people using that much toilet paper, just trying to clean it. And then it flew out in the shower anyway, wasting a bunch of time, a bunch of water, a bunch of energy. And it was just such a cumbersome, ridiculous process for me. And then I realized that you know I looked into it to discover that toilet paper not only kills 15 million trees per year, but it causes a bunch of things. There's not cleaning yourself properly, so it causes things like hemorrhoids and urinary tract infections and anal fissures all these things that are just not fun. And millions and millions and millions of cases of these. And it's sort of like, for me, the real question was, can I take this thing that people have been doing since the late 1800s, which is wiping our butts with dry paper and turn it on its head and actually, you know, show people the right way to do it. And so I think it always starts with you. It always starts with your own pain point. So in my book, duke will take my first book, I talk about the three questions to ask yourself before starting a disruptive business in the first question is what sucks in your world? Like I said it's going to start with you. And then the second question is is it sucked for a lot of people? Which is do a lot of people have to deal with this? Well, yeah, 30 million people are dealing with chronic urinary tract infections, hemorrhoids, anal issues. And millions of people have. IBS and all kinds of celiac and all these issues which cause them to have to go to the bathroom a lot. And it's a very frustrating process. And so yes, it's X for a lot of people. And then the third question is can I be passionate about this issue cause or community for a really long time? And yeah, I definitely can be, you know, not only am I helping save millions of trees, but this product is helping save millions of trees. But it's also helping solve this ridiculous hygiene and health issue..

"Now malaria and HIV aids are major causes of annual deaths around the world so it might be surprising to learn that more people died from antibiotic resistant bacterial infections during 2019 These are bacteria that have somehow either developed through genetic mutation but mostly through the use of antibiotics the ability to evade the impact of antibiotics So they're called resistant and bacteria Yeah and we've heard before that they were a major problem concerns worries and so on Were you surprised to find just how big a problem We were very surprised We were not at all expecting to find one and a quarter million deaths around the world each year from resistant bacteria And in fact I think the finding that was truly global phenomenon not just in some parts of the world was also a big surprise Yeah as you say around the world there are perhaps areas countries regions more effective than others Well much to our surprise the number of deaths related to antibiotic resistance is actually greater in low income countries particularly in sub Saharan Africa Than it is for example in high income countries And that was really quite counter to our expectations Why is that do you think Well what's happening is that the proportion or the fraction of bacterial infections that are resistant is actually lower in Africa in sub Saharan Africa But there are so many more infections pneumonias bloodstream infections urinary tract infections that the overall burden of antimicrobial resistance turns out to be greater in the low and middle income world than the high income world This from newsday was our most clicked story of the week on Facebook where it was seen by 130,000 accounts Right now this is one of those stories you simply have to see to believe These ice fish in this case they form small gatherings of nests and then they lay their eggs inside these nests and they guard them from predators until they hatch And this is down to the quiet of the deep sea Yeah so this is 500 meters depth underneath the permanently ice covered Vettel C in this case And you've seen a vast colony of these nests Exactly So what we do is we smash the ice with our research icebreaker and then we lower on a 500 meter cable our toed camera device and what we found was that as soon as we put the camera down in this location we saw these fish nests and they just kept on coming for the entire four hours of our initial dive so that's covering 6 or 7 kilometers of the sea floor and we saw absolutely nothing but these nests nest after nest after nest It was an amazing sight and nothing that we'd seen before on board A city Yeah city or a metropole to me it looked like almost like they were hotel rooms being booked by these particular fish And so when we finished this particular dive we emailed experts on Antarctic fish and they said there's never been anything like this found before and the biggest gathering is in the tens of these fishing before but we are talking now in the millions of these fish How far apart are these nests The nests are about 75 centimeters in diameter and we did not see a single nest which was overlaying with its neighbor So when they form it I think the tail of the fish keeps them adjacent from each other and they were in some cases coming up very close to each other but on average there's about 2025 centimeters between nests But that's pretty crowded Yeah very crowded in every three or 4 m² photograph I saw two or three fish at a minimum in this entire area When Orton purser who you heard there and a team of ocean scientists smashed a hole through frozen sea in Antarctica they discovered something nobody had ever witnessed before a vast city of nesting ice fish and like us this listener was pretty excited Hi my name is Omani rubber Schultz from the United States and this is a really cool discovery because icefish have their own antifreeze in their blood And this is the first time that we've ever found anywhere where millions of them are nesting at once When we heard about this one we just had to hunt down the pictures and when we shared them on social media you shared them too more than on any other story in fact with images reaching well over half a million people And they are really beautiful and those fish are super organized in row upon row of tidy.

"In the people's pharmacy health headlines the coded pandemic might fuel the later epidemic of dementia according to a study from argentina. The researchers reported on more than four hundred people over sixty years old who had recovered from cove in nineteen of these about sixty percent showed evidence of cognitive impairment. Even if their initial infections were mild the scientists used accurate polymerase chain reaction tests to confirm infection with sars covy to this incidence of cognitive difficulty is about ten times higher than investigators would normally expect to find in a population of this age. They'll be following up with testing for these individuals for the next three to five years to see if the trouble persists should soccer balls be sold with health warnings. A leading scottish neuropathologist has studied more than seven thousand professional players. He concluded that these men are three and a half times more likely to develop dementia before they die than the general public. Professor willie stewart told reuters quote with the current data. Were now at the point to suggest that football should be sold with a health. Warning saying repeated heading in football may lead to an increased risk of dementia in europe. The term football refers to the game. Americans call soccer the authors call for further studies to clarify the risks of heading a ball in amateur and youth soccer. How well does the fda assess the risks of medical devices a study published in jama. Internal medicine analyzed their random sample of one thousand adverse event reports in the. Fda's maude database. Maude stands for manufacturer and user facility. Device experience shockingly. The researchers discovered that more than one in five problems resulting in death were classified since. The fda only investigates reports involving deaths. This is a serious flaw. In the system. A recent example of medical device malfunction involves ventilators from phillips this week. The fda announced that the use of these breathing devices could result in serious injuries or death. A lesser problem involves cpap machines. The same dutch company phillips respironics has recalled millions of devices because foam used to dampen. The noise deteriorated as a result. Some people may have inhaled toxic particles or off guest chemicals. There's now a shortage of devices used by people with chronic obstructive sleep apnea when women came down with urinary tract infections that cause frequency urgency or pain on urination. The standard antibiotic course used to be seven to fourteen days..

"And that's when all choose like a track from michael tiles sound healing frequencies or something. That's more developed by like johns hopkins for for psychedelic research and healing or something. That's very classical or kind of like you know typical spa soundscape type stuff but again. It's not just through the ears because even though you can plug a set of headphones into this sound matt and play into your ears. Also it literally. It's hard to describe. Plays the sound through your whole body and it's super cool. You can also watch a movie this like watch the movie through your body but man because the vibration from that is louie vibrating. My whole body. Do you feel that much when you worked at. Can you feel the the actual music through table. He's pretty cool. Yeah especially like when. I left your shoulder speakers under that part that come out near your shoulders and yeah i was thinking while you were talking about. When we were talking about the essential. Oil therapy i started thinking about the molecular makeup of the oils. Right like we're the energy. The kinetic energies actually happening in these oils. The same thing with the table the same thing with the music. What you're doing is you're accessing molecular healing. And then we add what i do in there and it just is a multidimensional experience like you said and i think that i also realizing that i'm feeling this essential oils. I have oils in my hands. That i'm using on your body for nearly three hours and and i'm in the space of the pm matt m. Working so i. Even even though i'm tired at the end i'm not exhausted. Like i have a thirty minute drive home and or forty five minute drive home. Whatever and guestroom is right next to the massage table so occasionally crashed. That's right yeah the donna room. Now thank you so yeah. I mean after the massage. I leave and i usually don't put any music on. I'm just kind of in my chill space. Like you go and journal and i go in journal in my mind and have conversations scott or just kind of chill on the way home. Yeah and especially if like you know. I noticed the other the last time we did the massage and i used the zinn spray. Boy that just felt like. I don't know it felt like the best massage we've ever done together the last one i was like. Oh gosh is it just going to continue to get better and brighter. This bad wondered that. Before because i will just certain compounds prior to art therapy and one that will use to open up the third. I is this spray. I get it from dr john laura sarasota. I've interviewed him about it. But it's a blend of different such oils like peppermint and rosemary and cinnamon and a lot of these mentally stimulating oils. Along with hoppy. Which is an amazonian herb. A lot of times use pre ceremony to activate the third i in the pineal gland and it's very good for before meditation before yoga before it's a little bit stimulating and i have some pretty strong blends like i gave you one last time. And yeah shoot you to the moon for about five or ten minutes. When you i do a few sprays up your nostrils but then once you settle down you're in a very cool space and i wonder if that's one of the reasons our last massage or so because we both had kind of the same stuff circulating through our bloodstream. Right now the the other thing that i'll use all start off about five or ten minutes before we do the massage with a few of those then sprays and then i use ketamine which i wouldn't want you on because it's it's an anesthetic. Right literally is something that is used in medicine as a painkiller often delivered via issue very common now used as an anti-depressant or something that people use for trauma work very very good allowing you to tap into memories of past experiences including traumatic memories which is probably another reason that have been so tuned into trauma that you release but then of course because it causes a full body relaxation affect the combination of ketamine and bodywork is profound because my muscles are there goo right my entire body just basically if i've already got up and walked during a massage therapy sessions. I'd be very wobbly. Because then you've probably seen this guy get up from the table. It can be kind of wobbly because that ketamine an i'll do three hundred or four hundred milligrams sometimes winter nasal once. I did a suppository which is very interesting. usually just like an oral trophy. That dissolve under my tongue and so as the massages going. It's just kinda like slow bleeding in the my system during the entire massage. But what's interesting. Is that a relaxing. My entire body and i feel like you're able to just like get in along better when i've got that stuff in my system the it really allows me to tap into past emotions and memories and trauma a lot more readily and then i think probably the other thing that i like about it is when you have the right soundtrack. On there is there is a pretty intense. Some people even call this the k. Whole when they get too deep into this. But it's this mind body association. Where if i've if i've got the sweet spot and the right amount in my system then when you're working on me i sometimes i lose track of where my body's at in space like you'll be working on me and it'll be on the table but it'll feel sometimes like i'm hanging upside down on inversion table or like i'm like i'm in a completely different position than i'm actually in. Which sounds like it would be stressful and weird. But it's actually very very cool experience because it really is feeling as though my entire body is fully relaxed. Like i have this mind body your brain body association and you have to be careful with ketamine. It can cost things like long term. Use cause urinary tract infections or urinary tract inflammation as its released from the body can have someone out of neurotoxicity when when used in hefty doses to regularly about the only time i use it now is when i get a massage so about every ten to fourteen days. I'm getting some ketamine into my system. When we do massage and manage it is a game changer. I think to have that ketamine in the system and you combine it with the sound therapy. And and that f. matt the aromatherapy and the essential oils and then the only their tips that i would give to people is that for the journaling component and kind of some of the breakthrough.

"Elena, we are going to be discussing fall prevention, which is most of you should know a phone. Call is what caused my mother to finally passed away from Alzheimer's. So it's a, it's a very important topic. So thanks for joining me Elena, once again, thank you very much. Thank you. Nice to see you again. You know, my favorite topics. Oh yeah, it's like I do get that from your Instagram posts after the constipation as you thought it was all obsessed with constipation. Well it's pretty lunch time here. So let's go back to Falls. Okay. Then. So you've had some interesting cases surrounding Falls, you want to talk about it real quick and then we can jump into preventing them. Yes, Jenny. I see patients being admitted with Falls every single day and there are certain patterns in in the Falls but every patient is individual and not every single one of them has to have a personalized approach to that falls management. One of the struggles I have in acute hospital setting which I seen long area attractions adopted. That approach is assigning the full to one single medical problem. For example, I'll give you a very recent example. It was this week, a page with vascular dementia was admitted to hospital with a fool. Unfortunately, she broke her pelvic bone. And when she was, she was seen and spend a couple of days in there is a huge assessment unit and then came down to my geriatric Ward and Her diagnosis was urinary tract infection and the cause of her fall was thought. The secondary to that urinary tract infection but of course let's face it. How many of us haven't had it urinary tract infection? I had two episodes long journey. I don't know about you. Did I go around and always my urinary tract infection know. So why are we making an assumption that an older person with dementia half full because you had a urinary tract infection UTI. That's

Frailty Is A Thing?

"I am excited today to introduced to you dr mucci. She has the coolest instagram page. That you're ever gonna wanna watch so her pages linked in the show notes and we are going to discuss. Frailty today which. Until i ran into her. I didn't even know an actual medical thing. So thank you for joining me. Have i so i just thought frailty meant you know i have a very good definition of frailty. I just thought it meant that you started losing the ability to move freely. And then you've told me that there's actual stages and it's a medical thing so why don't you start by telling everybody what frailty actually is to a medical doctor a right. Thank you very much for the kind introduction jets and so frankly is very commonly used announced a families look after all people and they just say oh mommy's a bit freia and she's slowed down a little bit out. Of course they chum failty in medical world as means completely different thing and their definition official definition knees highly if they reduce physiological reserves allocco physiological reserves. This means and why is it important to understand while this happens. As a result of amalgamation wolf three major factors as a result of aging process amalgamated with age related diseases we accumulate over the life span as less side effects of medications. Let me give you an example. What this means. So recent example for my clinical practice beatrice is ninety two year old lady. She's quite fit. Well lead independently. She before the lockdown. Actually it was running classes in a swimming pool oval senior citizens so very engaged with her community and leaving a beautiful life with quote a good quality of life however decreases ninety two and in the lost two three years. Should he'd have a few medical problems into stroke clinic with couple of meanest strobes diagnoses on. Jain ah should also has a little bit okay. High blood pressure. Some kidney disease muggle problems. None of them are actually bad enough to impact on. Have day to day functioning. She takes madison's will. These conditions is on block thin as full day mini strokes or cholesterol tablets. So she's functioning will and then one day should develops really a bad kid named action or you're north talked infection and it was bad enough for her to be a stylized in hospital and what happened. She became very confused. Deal various and rather than spending just two three days in hospital For intravenous antibiotics shea had two weeks admission in hospital because have confusion was resolving and of course what happens told their doubts if they spend a lot of time in in bed completely condition muscles wasted away by them. Homeless admission is keen swimmer. Could not stand to go into a rehabilitation facility and it was good two months before she actually returned home and she was not back to normal cell sure required carrozza assistance required Family to help. And that's what frailities. It's their amalgamation. She did not know that. Race frail have family did not understand why mom sophie to while swimming the day before teaching her class next day hunterston agen and actually swearing which Merited before in. How confused state why this will happen into. It was very traumatic for the families. And that's what i said. I explained frame because of course as a result of a previous mini strokes should have reduced brain reserves and urinary infection. Eat infection there are toxins in the body which up poisoning the brain. Now in you. And i we might not have a major program but had strokes if so bring presents lou and should develop a confusion shays ninety two age related changes to the boogie moss and muscles. Do you know on net. After the age of fifty we use about one to two percent muscle mass every year. So just imagine when you come to ninety two remember. She's actually switch. It wasn't bad But you can't go against the nature so there you go mini strokes causing reduced brain reserves. Shays ninety two year old with reduction in her muscle mass spending two weeks hostile bat eligible kidney problem on the background and of course urinary tract infection led to deterioration that and have completed different individual at the

Shkreli awards for the worst actors in health care

"Medical care is in a crisis. This is Dr Michael Wilks where they second opinion as a nation. We spend eighteen percent of our gross national product on health care, frankly, we are not getting good value. There are loads of problems getting doctors to modernize their practices creating a larger role for mid level providers, like nurse practitioners, and physicians assistance. And of course, greed the enormous drive for profit in America has become the major influence in healthcare delivery. And this greed is not confined to any one sector the list of greedy organizations in medicine is long and diverse. But at the very top of that list are the pharmaceutical companies drugs that have been around for decades like insulin discovered. Nearly a hundred years ago have reached record high prices. Drug companies take a drug like insulin. Make a small change that allows them to keep the drug on patent. This abhorrent practice is called ever-greening in this case. What's ironic is at the very researchers at the university of Toronto who discovered the drug insulin gave the patent to drug companies for free. So that the drug could be available to the public ninety eight years after it was discovered drug companies still refused to manufacture a generic affordable. Brand I have patients that are taking half or a quarter of their required dose because they can no longer afford to take the full dose. The makers of insulin are not alone. Perdue pharma influence doctors through unethical marketing, free, lunches payments or gifts, and so called education campaigns to write unnecessary. Opioid prescriptions, which we all know has resulted in tens of thousands of opioid deaths. So it is no surprise that. Nostrum laboratories was at the top in the list of shit Crowley awards. Nostrum increase the price of an old antibiotic used to treat a urinary tract infection by a mere four hundred percent why because they could thus SHA Crawley awards given annually by the loan institute are for the worst actors in health care this year. Three of the top ten were pharmaceutical companies the award is named after the convicted felon and CEO of turing pharmaceuticals Martin Shkreli who jacked up the price of an old lifesaving antibiotic to unaffordable prices. Other winners included the convicted felon, Dr Fata who is a Michigan cancer, doctor who treated more. More than five hundred and fifty people for cancer who it turns out didn't really have cancer. Other winners were San Francisco General hospital for gross overbilling nursing homes that provided unnecessary care and then build for it and Hennepin county medical center for conducting drug trials on patients without their permission. We can all be outraged. But unless we put a cap on this greed, this behavior will just continue. This is Dr Michael Wilks with a second opinion.

So come listen to the end of the world with Josh Clark. You can find it on apple podcasts the iheartradio app or wherever you find your podcasts. Welcome to brain stuff from how stuff works. Hey, brain stuff, Lauren Bogle bond here. What if you could take a pill that would treat depression, constipation, diarrhea eczema, urinary tract, infections and allergies while also preventing cavities and strengthening your overall, immunity, and what if it promised to shield you from the impurities of the world and reestablish a right and correct balance in your body's ecology. First of all everybody settled down. There is no such thing as a pill that does all of that. But to hear some people talk, probiotics might just come close the popularity of products containing friendly live microorganisms has exploded over the past decade at this point. You can walk into almost any grocery store and find probiotics in capsules lozenges. Gum facial toner, and yes, even in pet products. In addition to the more traditional delivery systems, like culture, dairy products yogurt and fermented products, like sauerkraut and Khumbu. Some folks are making a lot of money on these little bacterial helpers. But what are they actually able to do for us? And are they safe? We spoke with Dr Chris Irwin, a dietitian and lecturer in nutrition and dietetic at Griffith university in Queensland Australia. He said that unless you have an extremely poor diet or drink alcohol to excess. There's not a lot of evidence that a probiotic dietary supplement will help your overall health. He said if you're taking probiotics you'll likely. You need to take them every day, and it's best to feed the healthy bacteria with prebiotics. The bottom line is that healthy people are likely to get more benefit from getting regular exercise of waiting smoking or consuming too much alcohol and having a diet rich in foods that increase fiber and natural prebiotics intake like vegetables, fruits and whole grains, rather than consuming a probiotic supplement. However, probiotics might be an effective treatment for specific cases or conditions while there's not a lot of evidence. Supporting the idea that probiotics could help with your ex allergies or dental woes. Sorry, they might actually help people looking to avoid veteran east infections or upper respiratory infections picked up from a cold virus. Other. Studies have found that probiotics can help with digestive issues like irritable bowel syndrome, and may improve the frequency and consistency of your poop. So as a consumer what should you look for in a probiotic? If you want to get the most bang for your buck. Basically, you've got some homework to do. Irwin said a different probiotics. Strains have different effects. So it's important to look for a probiotic supplement that contains the strains of bacteria most likely to match your condition, the dose of bacteria called colony forming units or CFU is also important and should be high enough to meet benefits observed in clinical trials, the short answer here is if someone is looking for probiotic to take gopher something that provides the greatest diversity in bacterial, strains and the highest CFU. Irwin also suggests getting advice from your doctor or dietician for those strains that might be right for you. And making sure you're buying probiotic strains that are refutable and have committed to transparency in scientific research. However that ladder is more easily said than done. A study published in JAMA internal medicine in two thousand eighteen pointed out that there is very little government oversight of factories that manufactured probiotics and the US food and Drug administration or FDA found that about half of the six hundred and fifty factories that manufacture probiotic supplements in the United States were cited for violations most having to do with the product not living up to what was promised on the label. The study also said the probiotics may lead to infections in people with immune deficiencies. Another study published this year in the journal cell suggests some people may be resistant to supplemented probiotic bacteria, and therefore we'll get no benefit from it at all the researchers also investigated whether probiotics can help the gut microbiome bounce back after a round of antibiotics, and they found that though probiotics might have hell. With diarrhea related to the anti-biotics. They seem to have delayed the reconstitution of gut bacteria. Of course, more research is needed to understand just how helpful probiotics are to our overall health, and it's important not to give them more credit than their do. Irwin said. It's unlikely probiotic supplements are dangerous, but I don't think that they're a magic bullet L D people are likely to get more benefit from having a diet rich in vegetables, fruits and whole grains on the other hand if someone has a poor diet and doesn't exercise regularly their digestive bacteria may benefit from probiotic supplements. But they'll likely need to keep taking them to get lasting effects. States episode was written by just windshields and produced by Tyler playing for more on this and lots of other gutsy topics. "Potentially serious injury in the er family is working with a patient advocate to try to negotiate the bill since it seems like just a little too much to pay for a quick exam a nap and a bottle of formula but the advocate thanks to family will be lucky if they can get the bill down to fourteen grand the next time you baby falls down hits his head stone rushed to the hospital you can work it out on your own i guess that is the message and actually just out of hygiene headquarters ever been in a public bathroom taking one look at the toilet seat and realized there was no way you're going to sit down on that filthy little thing well according to experts it actually might be worse for your health to hover above the toilet seat in the just plop down right on top of the grossness here's why researchers say that when you hover and makes the muscles in your abs back legs and pelvic area really tents that makes it harder for you to go to the bathroom so you have to push harder and if you do that enough you can wind up with a hernia some toilets i'd take a hernia for the was going to say i'd rather have a hernia than some of the things that i think these toilet seats have plus it might mean that you don't empty your bladder completely and that can lead to urinary tract infections but if you just sit on the toilet it's very unlikely that you would catch anything very unlikely still likely a very unlikely actually sit on most public toilets i mean my best friend's nurse practitioners like i've never seen anybody died from it my mom always taught me that it dries it dies and there you go if you're going to catch an intestinal disease it's probably going to be from having little particles of feces on your hands and then touching your food or your face wash those hands so if the nasty toilets bacteria touches the backs of your sweet little lies you probably won't get sick so don't hover anymore chance yeah toilet all wet like please stop doing that you guys if we all just sit down and really really solve the problems gotta get in there and get a little dirty we're like this that sound of a turtle humping issue that means the laser stories has come for today wednesday yeah yes that's correct brandnew loser.
