Man accused of Ohio State threat pleads guilty

"Who used Facebook to threaten a shooting. At Ohio State and bowed to hurt players in the football team and the head coach. At that point, it was urban Meyer pleaded guilty. Today to making a threat in interstate communications. Evidently, uh, he did this. He was out in California made an electronic communication of threat during the Ohio State Michigan game back in 2018. He threatened a shooting at the school, saying in a Facebook message to the university. I'm seriously gonna hurt the students and all the players from the football team. In separate messages. Rippy also threatened Inger kill specific players, their family members and the head coach. So he faces five years and president of $250,000 fine at sentencing. But he was arrested December 28th in California, released on bond but then failed to report to the court. He also didn't report to a halfway house has required. "Just did the top fifteen players of all time and ranked them in order. I'll start with the ESPN list. We'll do a little bit more on this tomorrow but first of all if you're wondering you know are there any. Washington players will the first thing when I see these lists. That are longer than ten or twenty players. I'm always looking for Elvin Hayes and for Wes unseld to see where they are on this list. You my personal feeling is that Elvin Hayes is one of the all-time Great Nba Power Forwards. And that he was probably a greater all around player than WES unseld. Even the WES unseld. Was You know hall of fame player in a phenomenal player in his own right? Don't get me wrong but I think he's had the better career. I think as is considered by most historians to be better Not by much but better. That's the way I see it at any time. And I've had this argument before and I think he always goes west at of a head of a head of Elvin Hayes And I'm talking about in Washington. You know Earl the Pearl Monroe and and and you know Gus Johnson et CETERA. Those are Baltimore. Bullets Not Washington bullets. So I go with the bullets. Since they've been Washington so on this list of seventy four players a man. This is a heartless to put together like even at the bottom of the list. You're talking about all time greats. Like the number seventy four all time. Nba Player is Artis Gilmore. The A train. I mean he was a great NBA player a great NBA player. You know a guy like Bob Lanier one of the all-time great centers is seventy one on this list. Bernard King Sixty Ninth Best Player fault. Saint Time I mean Bernard King was a ridiculous score Pete Muravich is sixty eight. This will make Tommy go crazy when I tell him this if he hasn't seen it already sixty eighth on the all-time list is Pete Muravich By the way Earl Monroe was sixty fourth on the list. Lonzo Morning Georgetown. Sixty third on the list. So I Willis Reed Tommy's all time favourite sixtieth on the list. Tommy will be apoplectic about that. Because I think he believes Willis reads a top ten player of all time. He's upper sixty on this list So number fifty on the list is wes. Unseld and number forty four on this list is Elvin Hayes. So Elvin Hayes is six spots ahead of WES UNSELD on this list. Elvin Hayes was a great player. The biggest problem with the biggie is. He didn't play his best in the biggest games that he played in he was not very good in the nineteen seventy five. Nba Finals against Golden State. He really wasn't very good. Nineteen seventy eight championship season. That they won. He was in foul trouble in game. Seven Seattle. He was on the bench when the game ended. You know now in seventy nine when they defended their title he had some of the best games he had had his entire career. As you know in the post season But he was just a scoring machine. He he's endurance. Level was all time never missed a game. He played a ridiculous number of minutes in every game he played in. He barely sat. He's an all time great. So as UNSELD Ahead of him by the way Russell Westward comes in forty second on this list but anyway The debate really starts when you get into like the top fifteen and you know. They're couple of guys outside the top fifteen. I mean I know Tommy would consider you know Willis Reed to be you. Know Worthy of top fifteen discussion Just outside the top fifteen guys that you know some of you might make case for Dirk came. In at Nineteenth Moses Malone came in at eighteenth Karl Malone at Seventeen in Jerry West at sixteen you could easily make the case for any of them to put him somewhere inside the top. Fifteen at fifteen was doctor Jay. Now I've always said and I've been mocked for it and that's fine that I think Dr J. is an all time great. Don't get me wrong. But in the conversation of the greatest when people put him into that conversation with bird and with magic and a Jordan you know before the Kobe Brian you know era these would be some of the conversations. I would say not. He's not in that group. He's not in that group he's an all time highlight reel player. You Know He. He's a great player. A clearly Dr J. was it'd be insane not to say that but I think in my on my list and I've always said this he's outside the top ten and he might be outside the top fifteen and I didn't try to act like Julius Irving wasn't you know top fifteen top twenty player of all time I just always had him on the backside of that countdown and on this list. Julius Irving is number fifteen you know and I guarantee you there. There will be some people that will have a problem with that that think. Dr J. should be higher up on this list. Here's his in front of him. Kevin Durant comes in at fourteen and Steph curry comes in at thirteen. So will be a debate. Among many you know curry versus durant. Curry's one spot ahead of them. I think that's fine for right now. Now durant still has. An curry still has time to continue to move up this list. Twelve on this list is his Hakeem Malaysia one. He's the guy that for me. In the same way Tommy thinks will read is always criminally underrated. I always feel that. Allies Yuan is underrated and doesn't get his. Do you know in the greatest centers of all time conversation. I put him right there after will and and recycle and Kareem. You know to me. He's right thereafter that now there are other centers in front of him like Shaquille. O'neal you know on this list. Oscar Robertson by the way was eleventh. And then you get to ten and that's where shack is. I think Elijah One's a greater player was a better player than shack. I would have him ahead of Shack. you know that's me at number nine is Coby Coby. Bryant definitely a top ten player and by the way the other titles he won. You know without moves him in front of Shack. I have no problem with him. Being at number nine Tim Duncan's eight and this is where you know again. A Guy I think allies one should be in front shack I think allies should be in front of Duncan Dunkin's one of the great winners of all time. Allies won two titles. Let's not forget that but Dunkin comes in at eight and then get into the conversation. I think that pretty much in recent years people have narrowed the list down. Try to get to some sort of Mount Rushmore at seven. Is Larry Bird? Right at seven. Is Larry Bird at six is will five is magic? Four is Russell Threes Kareem to is Lebron and one is Michael so I think that's the the the list you know. I think after bird seven I mean some of you may want coby on that list. Some of you may. When Duncan some I personally I think allies one could be in that you know in that truly elite group. But I think that you know when people talk about all right. Who's on Mount Rushmore NBA? All-time the list comes from the top. Seven like I think they got the top seven right. You know. Bird wilt magic. I think magic personally. I'd put magic ahead of you know probably Russell and Kareem Lebron to me magic would be number two after Michael I think Lebron's too high But you know this gets into that argument and I have it with my kids all the time I mean they think Lebron's the greatest player of all time and they don't they don't want to hear anything differently you know and they. They always point to the fact that Lebron leaves Cleveland and they're the worst team in the league the next year they're like. When did that ever happen? You know Michael Jordan left for those two years in the next year they won fifty five games without him and it's a good point. You Know Lebron every time. He left team. That team went basically went. Went to near the bottom of the standings. It's amazing what. Lebron did with certain teams like that team that he took to the NBA Finals against Golden State. That lost six with della Vedova in Amman. Shumpert in Timothy Mas. Goff I mean what a performance he put on put on an all time performance to carry that team to the NBA Finals. And be in it. They lost in six. I mean I I've come around on Lebron. You know being on a list like this. I'm not a Lebron fan a Mutt but and I am a a magic guy. I've always been a magic. I and I think magic and Michael in terms of the non center's are one and then two. I'd probably put Magic to behind Michael. You know it's close really close. And then you get into in the non center discussion for me. You get into Lebron but Larry Koby you know if you WANNA put Oscar on that list you know in terms of the non center's you put the centers into this conversation all time. Which is what they've done. You know ranking. The centers is tough. Because you know. Most people will look at Russell and say Great Defensive Center the greatest winner of all time. They'll look at Wilton. Say No greater player in terms of the gifts that he had the talented. He add the the numbers that he put up. You know cream. It's a combination of winning and the numbers. Then you get into allies yuan in and shack in Dunkin. I mean winners all of them. Numbers all of them But for whatever reason they're always sort of ranked is a little bit below Wilton Kareem in Russell Oh my my biggest gripe is we you know in the top fifteen is. I would have allies. You want a little bit higher. I'd have magic a little bit higher. I'd probably have Lebron a little bit lower. I probably have magic in front of Lebron for right now are I. I'm still leaving out. The possibility Lebron could move in front I think it's really hard with the centers in in the other players but I don't have a problem with Russell and Kareem being where they are. You know I'd probably move magic to to till four behind the two centres. He'd be number two in the non center conversation. But I I I love these lists this time of year And the CBS sports DOT COM top. Fifteen they had Jerry West fifteen. Dr J. Fourteen Curry at Thirteen Oscar twelve. Elijah wanted eleven. So one spot higher than they had koby at ten Dunkin at nine bird at eight shack at seven you know shack going on to win With weighed in Miami Is a you know a feather in his cap you know he got that done without. Koby there. Wilt comes in six magics five on this list to Russell Kareem Lebron and Jordan. So they had the exact same top five that Espn had actually. Did they have the same top? Six was wilt six on this list. Yeah the exact same Top six on this list. They had shack ahead of bird Anyway conversation for tomorrow I would think If Tommy wants to weigh in on that and I would guess That he Will want to do that. last thing before we run it's the whole baseball economics about returning the story Last night is that baseball. Basically held a call yesterday. Conference call yesterday Between owners and Players Association and the actual economics of of a return were not even discussed which is strange. You know what was discussed. Were a lot of the covy nineteen protocols including things like contact tracing and how they'll handle a positive test which by the way.

Russell Kareem Lebron NBA Willis Reed Tommy Elvin Hayes Michael Jordan WES unseld Kareem Lebron Dr J. Fourteen Curry Washington Wilton Kareem Lebron Duncan Dunkin Earl Monroe Espn Elijah One Larry Koby Dr J. Tim Duncan Oscar Robertson

"You Bet you win and most importantly when you win you get paid few more things to get you on the show today I read this after the radio. Show this morning thought. It was pretty interesting because I think one of the debates that we as NFL fans will have over. The next few years will be so. Was it more belichick or more Brady. I mean we've already had that debate but now that they're a part you know we're going to learn more about them now personally. I. I don't know what else you can learn about Brady. If he fails in Tampa he may have failed because he was forty two years old going on forty and that physically. He just was diminished as most players. Get you know to the that age. They have diminishing skills so I don't know that we're ever GONNA learn much about Brady like even if he plays great next year with by the way a terrific team around him and wins a super bowl. I don't think that that necessarily you know sort of separates him from belichick where you can say see. It was more Brady now. I think bellichik has more of an opportunity. Bella you know doesn't have a diminishing. Physical skill sets not required to be a coach. Bela CHEEK IF HE GOES ON TO WIN. A Super Bowl Or be a contender. You know in have a contending team for the next few years with say Jarret Stidham at quarterback. It's GonNa say a lot about belichick. It's a hell of a lot about chick. Now I bring this up because Asante Samuel Who played for the Patriots from two thousand? Three two thousand seven won two super bowls with the Patriots. it in on this particular discussion And he essentially said. It was always more Tom than it was bill. He said the following quote. I think bill belichick needed Tom to be successful. He tweeted this recently. Do you think Tom Needs Bill. My answer is no. Bill is known to be a defensive specialist. How many times did he have a top five defense into the did they? Were We win the Super Bowl? Tom Is always carried the team on his back with limited weapons. Josh mcdaniels. The one who really raised Brady not bellichik That was Asante Samuel weighing in now former Patriots Safety Rodney Harrison. Got In on the debate as well and he said quote. I think it's stupid. Essentially what Santi Samuel said because no matter how good those guys were together. Guess what. They weren't very good without tedy. Bruschi Ted Johnson Richard Seymour Willie mcginest I just think it's an injustice to all the great players that have come in there and really made major contributions to those championships. It's not just brady. It's not just bellichik so he wasn't necessarily saying it was more bellichik than Brady. He was just saying it. The defensive talent was better than sort of what Asante Samuel said. I I don't i. I don't know that we'll ever know for sure. I do. Think if bellichik goes on and wins big and contends for many more years with jace average quarterback or maybe a barely better than average quarterback that he will approved something Beyond what he proved with Brady and it will make us all in the long term future arguments. Say Look what Belichick did without Brady look what he did he. He won a super bowl with With Jarrett Stidham or he got to a super bowl which aired cinema. We went to two straight. Afc Championship Games in five. Had Five Straight playoff seasons with Jarrett. Stidham you know. Even that would be you know an indication of what a great Goetschi was but if he goes on to win the whole thing without Brady we're gonNA learn something about Belichick But anyway Personally I think it was both of them all along And I and I don't doubt that Belichick will have a well coached team. That plays well wins. Games goes to the POSTSEASON But I would be surprised if he wins championships. Without a really good quarterback you know a good to great quarterback Their teams have been at times. You know underrated defensively and usually when they've gotten to the post season they've been even better defensively than they were in the regular season. All right last thing I want to get to is that you know. This is sort of because there aren't live games but it's also because of the last dance in this documentary that is consumed sports fans for the last The.

"You want it you need it. It's what everyone's talking about the Kevin Sheehan show. Now here's Kevin just me today Sorry about yesterday show. It was long and it was all over the place and I didn't even get to the topic that I really wanted to get to. Which was you know? All of the Adam Schiff transcripts stuff that the House intelligence committee finally had to release a few days ago. That would have sent Tommy over the edge. I mean Adam shifts boy for the last three years But Anyway I. We didn't even touch that and we. We probably won't touch tomorrow either. I I'll give you fair warning. That will will leave you without any Virus talk or political talk In the next shared episode of this podcast between the two of US It's not going to be a long show today but I did want to start with these urban. Meyer comments about Dwayne Haskins Urban Meyer was on a podcast. The Daniel Jeremiah Bucky Brooks podcast called move the sticks now Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks are both. Nfl Network is. I actually think they both do an excellent job. Daniel Jeremiah has actually been rumored to have been in the hunt for. Nfl General Manager Job in the last few years you know one of those media guys that people think could be an NFL general manager. Bucky Brooks does a great job. I think in his analysis of the game. I've actually tried to get him on the podcast and the show recently And it just never seems to work out for some reason but anyway they do a good really good job and they had urban. Meyer on their podcast. Yesterday and Urban Meyer said some things that he had not said to Zabreb. He was on with Zak on our radio station last week. that he didn't really say. I don't think To J. P. Finley not in the same way If you miss this This was part of the conversation. He got very He became sort of protective and defensive. When it came to Duane Haskins for season in Washington. He felt compelled to really defend his former quarterback. And I'll read through this stuff but let me just start with. I don't really think Dwayne Haskins performance last year needs to be defended. I think he improved a thought. He cut better. I think you know considering all of the circumstances when he finally got the opportunity to start. And we've been through this many times before I was encouraged And I know not. Everybody was so maybe. He's defending dwayne. Haskins against the Haskins critics of that first year. But what he really did is he took some shots at the organization. I'll read through some of these quotes so in talking about the organization that drafted him the Redskins he said. So it's the quarterbacks fault quote never mind the fact that their coach got fired that the place is a mess. There's this going on. There's this going on. There's that going on a lot of stuff. I heard from behind the scenes because once again I have several players there yet. It's dwayne fault. And by the way he's got players they're right Terry maclaurin Alex Smith in the organization He's close to Alex Smith but there was more than just that he said quote. I hate to be so simplistic on this but you better surround him with some really good players the NFL is amazing to me. They draft a quarterback. They put him on a very bad team. And there are a lot of culture issues which I don't want to start throwing stones but I do know I talked to my guy. I talked to a lot of these players. So it's the quarterbacks fault now that their coach got fired after week five. They were in complete disarray. It's the quarterbacks fault now I wish college was that easy for some reason. It's not the quarterbacks fault. It's the coach's fault to me. It's about culture and leadership you want Dwayne to be a great player. Surround him with really great players surround him with a really elite culture Urban Meyer went on to say that. Washington's failures in organization is evidenced by its lack of success in acquiring talent via the draft over the years and he said quote. Why does that? Why do the New England patriots their teams in the NFL that have far greater players in the Patriots? Have you know they draft ahead of the Patriots every year so on paper there are teams that had been drafting ahead of the Patriots for fifteen years yet? They can't beat them. Why what because they have bad players No there's something else there. It's called an elite culture elite leadership and then a reference back to the redskins. They don't have that. There's something wrong with the organization you want Dwayne to be great. Put a lot of greatness around him. That's the one common denominator all great quarterbacks they have great players around them closed quote. So this was urban. Meyer you know ripping the redskins organizationally in sort of defense of Dwayne haskins again. I would start with. I don't really think he needs to defend join haskins first year. I don't We all have different opinions about Haskins and I understand some of you have the opinion that he wasn't very good I have a different opinion. I thought that he was you know. Overall It was very encouraging. And it's it started. You know obviously inconsistently but it got better and the last game and a half that he played. He was outstanding outstanding. Those last that last game full game against Philadelphia. And the last half game against the giants. He essentially in six quarters. You know threw for three hundred ninety four yards four touchdowns no interceptions in completed about seventy five percent of his his passes. Yeah I seventy four percent of his passes yeah. I think that that's a a significant improvement to end that season that way so I don't really think that urban Meyer really needed to defend him in that way but it's his former player and you know I think there is definitely some recognition here right from Urban Meyer. That at least the last year's redskins organization was a hot mess. Now he's not revealing anything to US K. We know that some let me rephrase ninety five percent of US understand how bad this organization's been how awful the culture's been how a M- non-conducive it's been to winning and two young players with talent you know it's just not been great and I think that Urban Meyer was doing a couple of things here? I think that he was absolutely ripping the Organization for last year. And that may be directed more towards Bruce. But you know it's strange because just last week. The night that the schedule was released. Urban Meyer was part of the redskins. You know Revealing of their own schedule on their website they had urban Meyer and Matthew mcconaughey and I think be Mitch and Fred smoot or part of the festivities. Urban Meyer has a relationship with Dan Snyder. You know he sat in his box during that Eagle game last year when he was at the Army Navy game and then came over. You know that Sunday morning to in that. Remember all the rumors that were flying around that Sunday morning. That all is going to be the next coach in that caused That prompted Todd. Mcshay to to say the following week urban. Meyer's a friend of mine. I'm paraphrasing at this point. Urban Meyer's a friend of mine. I will urge him that there are thirty two. Nfl organizations and there are thirty one of them that are better then the Redskins But you know to just say that. Urban Meyer was criticizing the organization that dwayne played in in his first year based on the circumstances last year. Which would include Bruce Allin? Being in the in the mix Would be to sort of ignore one of the last wines in this In this transcript of the podcast that he was on with the two. Nfl Network is Daniel Jeremiah and Bucky Brooks because he says in talking about the Patriots in essentially saying the Patriots have elite culture elite leadership. He then says and this is not past tense. They don't have that referring to the redskins. There's something wrong with the organization. You want Dwayne to be great. Put a Lotta greatness around him. That's the one common denominator of all great quarterbacks. They have great players around them by the way as a quick aside. You know he's wrong about that too you know. He's not totally right about. That is probably a better way to describe it. The common denominator of all great quarterbacks is not that they've got great players around him. That's not the common denominator the common denominator of all championship quarterbacks. If he said it that way it would be closer to being true. But even that wouldn't be true. Aaron Rodgers has not had the greatest of players around him but he is a great quarterback one of the great quarterbacks of all time and what he's done is he has been one of those very few examples of in elite quarterback that elevates everybody around him and by Extension Elevates in organization. I don't think Twain is that I don't I think Dwayne is in that group of quarterbacks or winning quarterbacks that aren't great or elite they've got great players around him. I mentioned this earlier this morning. Even the elite culture elite leadership elite organization. Thing isn't always true you know. Kurt Warner took the Arizona. Cardinals owned by Bill Bidwell to the Super Bowl in nearly one it that year. That was not a good organization. Kurt Warner elevated that entire organization Peyton manning for all intents and purposes did the same thing with the colts in nineteen ninety eight. You Know Bill Polian was there. They had general manager there. Jimmer say had hired Polian but it was Peyton manning that took this more bond dysfunctional poorly owned NFL. Franchise you know and elevated it to championship caliber. I know they went to an AFC championship game with Harbaugh in the in the mid nineties. I understand that. That's that's fair but Peyton manning elevated that franchise. It was not considered to be a high culture elite cultured franchise. You know. No one's ever accused Jim Mercier. Bill Bidwell of being you know in the top tier of owners. They've always been in the bottom tier of.

Recipe edition: Adrian Martin's Classic Carbonara

"Hi I'm Adrienne Martin and I'm from wildflower restaurant in Camden. My favorite goto recipe is a classic Carbonara. Whenever I'm really really stuck on I have ten minutes free in the evening time. This is the recipe. I'll make so the classic normany is Gone Chali which is pig's cheek. What we do with Gwen? Charlie's we dice it up. We put it into a dry pan. Dry Pan fry it until we get it nice and crispy in the meantime while that's happening. You put on a pot of water bringing up to the boil spaghetti and their on. Let it cook away so once. Spaghetti HITS THE WATER. You have about eight to ten minutes to finish this whole dish so this is why. It's like one of those dishes. That's quite easy to kind of pull together nice and quick so spaghetti's in the Guantanamo is frying nicey. If you can't get your hands on going to you can just use regular smoked bacon. We ought in a clove of garlic. Don't even bother to smash it on your board straight into the pond and let it kind of perfume and flavor that Crispy Bacon in there. Once this happens we get an egg so base one egg per person so I normally cook for two. Probably eat for to myself to be honest with you. So we have to eggs cracked into a boat. And the cheese. That's traditionally used a classic. Urban Meyer is Pekka Reno Cheese. So into a micro playing great in some of that cheese into the egg whisk it together with a fork and then what you do is at this stage once you have that finished. Your Pasta should be almost ready. Check it have a little taste of it. Make sure that it's cooked almost fully through and what we do is take what your tongues across into the Bacon Spaghetti. Take some of the water which is well because it's picking up the sauce in the baking pan. We want to stop the frying process so that water will stop the frying process completely. Take it off the heat and finally you're going to live. She get ready to serve it straight away. So this is the last thing you have to do is get the egg and cheese that you've mixed header folded through the Spaghetti on the Bacon and finally finish it with cracked black pepper. Serve it up straightaway. Great a little bit more pet green overtop nego. Classic carbonare

Cowboys to move on without Jason Garrett

"Jason Garrett's time up as coach of the Dallas Cowboys Edward a reporting Jerry Stephen Jones have decided coach will not be part of the organization moving forward on Friday and paid Simmons on why this process lasted so long after the season to other Jerry and Stephen Jones have moved slowly out of respect for Jason Garrett you know they have a long history with him as a backup quarterback you to this is that coach a head coach's father was in the organization when Jerry bapa team as a scout and they finally concluded that phase of this process and that's going to end with Jason Garrett not being a part of the organization beyond his expiring contract and when exactly they make that announcement I thought sure what I've been told soon and that the next phase will have them moving into the process of interviewing candidates in the battle begin quickly after phase one is totally finished off yes was contract set to expire January fourteenth status with the team at issue since last February the cowboys didn't give a contract extension they missed the playoffs in twenty nineteen finish eight neighbor the four time in his tenure as coach Keyshawn Johnson on the job candidates and Jerry Jones himself he was on sports and we stand ready to make a decision on it there was the eight their long term in the obvious would clearly felt that their work you say while they waited till Thursday well the food that just won't really it just is so you kind of say okay take a deep breath we get back to the facilities we talk about a little bit we think about we pondered overnight we need or Thursday we meet on Tuesday we meet on Wednesday we have a conversation and we finally so you know women the best thing for us to do if not give the public what they looking for what they looking for me to do is be extremely mad and walk out of there on Sunday night if fire you on the tarmac so instead of doing that this call wait a couple days are you playing for the cowboys you're familiar with Jerry Jones and and and his thinking all what happens next now in this search for the next cowboys head coach I think a guy like Mike Zimmer Minnesota Vikings head coach could potentially be a candidate you say how could that be well I I II coach there in the deepest corner along try defensive coordinator for Jerry Jones is the bill Parcells fact either stay here they know what they're getting in that particular coach but also there's a young officer coordinator in cabin step band he this sitting there in Minnesota the Minnesota Vikings don't want to part ways with him they don't want him all of a sudden start to get interviews and become a category another team so I would be surprised if somehow might dimmer wind up being the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys in the cabinet she takes over as the head coach of the Minnesota Vikings so a lot of story lines this call come about here over the next with date but I think this time around you will get the head coaching job right where the coach may be season one more before we go do you think that at this point Jerry Jones is ready to surrender more control to a head coach now then he has been willing to in the past as bill Parcells left and and I want to turn this on your stamina I am right now status is not a defense Jerry Jones was some what he is and even as well as we clay as well as Jerry junior what is your you Jones gone wrong with that organization other than the head coaching hire that's a very good question that's very good everybody everybody everybody said here you're you're here the one on that team thank you for calling the latter team for the National Football League I would I would argue and say that their top five channels it is four tally dole is a National Football League the problem is that head coach because you're you're not holding the plate yeah well that gives the player is a free pass for having innate need season the talent on the field didn't win enough games he and Garrett will finish as the second longest tenured and second most winningest coach in team history Tom Landry a record of eighty five and sixty seven the wonders to playoff games unable to get past the divisional round Mike wells Myron Medcalf on Freddie Fitzsimmons the Dallas Cowboys there you know they draw attention but the the the days of being America's team and wanted to be part of what is age and it's not the same anymore it is not the same strictly because of what you have to deal with away from just coaching of football team is not simply you know put together a strong staff the coaster brakes of Amari Cooper Ezekiel Elliott and dak Prescott it's also having the answer constant questions from your boss the owner Jerry Jones deck could become a headache when you're you can't simply just focus on the task of putting your team in the proper position the try to have success there's a side show that comes with it and some people are built or not built to be able to deal with that so you got to find the right coach who is not only a great Exynos guy but somebody who's mentally strong enough to handle the constant you know looking over the shoulders and the pestering of your boss meddling in the inside of things wonder why things are not going well or to give us suggestions on what you should be doing that's not something easy that everybody can handle that type of situation well it and not everybody wants it and that's why I think a lot of these cultures your Matt rules related rallies urban Meyer's why except that to me if you're not going to modernize the structure of your organization so that your owner can do what every other owner does and take a backseat and not be this forward facing figure who's hosting its own press conferences after the game sometimes undermining the head coach then then how can you expect to attract a great candidate bomb out rule no one eight I'm leaving Baylor I got a chance to build something there if I'm leak in Raleigh I'm in Oklahoma and every year I get a chance to go to the college football playoff leave in Oklahoma where I can coach for another decade at least about continue to succeed ever murmur Meyer I'm not leaving LA or on the TV analyst making good money watching a lot of football injuries bouncing around the country see a lot of teams to go to Dallas where I've got a deal with Jerry that's why I think it's going to be difficult if Jerry Jones wants to continue to be Jerry Jones I don't think Mike he's going to end up with any of the top candidates identifying potential replacements Bobby carpenter and fox college football reporter Bruce Feldman gas on Freddie impede Simmons Stephen Jones Jerry Jones offered that coaching job urban Meyer she would say I think that's a hard job to say no urban probably wouldn't be needing to be for another year is that all you but who knows enough the big job at the glamorous job and remember the nose you know damn owns his courage and damn ongoing expound acted it all back thank god yeah I was supposed to do the oil itself journal part of mine and to buy that it was offered so you're going to want to meet your need to guide it was a proven track record we've done it before who's been in the playoffs the only guy that I look at the newest hires cycle that's really available is Mike McCarthy and it's free thank god I'm not that I'm not the biggest Mike McCarthy stand the world but he's the only guy that it holds no one Barty and that is the only thing that Jerry Jones once he is getting older is that you know you if you spend more time on this earth that he's going to spend has the last was starving if you get that oracle Marty troche with them of the order would love to put it in there Mike you've done that you chose to leave and you've been in the playoffs he's done a good job that would be my selection I don't know if they don't know what it does do checks all

Bowl Games 2019-20: Schedule and Predictions for Top Upcoming Games

"We're talking ball games he's around March here I'm Susan Burke as we want to know what you think about any and all ball games were talking red box ball because the fighting Illini our plane in the red box full talk or text three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred now as we're talking about rob just even going to a big ten game as it is is so much fun so much going on that date you can't see from the TV so to speak and while a bowl game in the bay area sounds like fun to me I I just want everyone to know that I did lobby to get us out of the red box full wasn't quite in the budget maybe next year exactly maybe next year but I I did try and try well it we make the Rose Bowl next year and they they've they've got a Serra send us folks there I think so they were you know like you said a lot of fun things going on and she's there's no shortage of of things that the the fighting line I have been involved in since the touch down the other day in San Francisco I know they've had a lot of fun Brian Barnhart was telling us when he joined us earlier voice of a line I basketball and football for that matter they bend Alcatraz and they've been doing charitable work all sorts of stuff sounds like you're having a children's hospitals yeah and you know I also want to mention that the Dallas Mavericks are taking on the Golden State Warriors tonight why do I say that because the fighting line I will be there they're gonna go enjoy the basketball game tonight as well that's right that's right they are going to go see that game I think you know just from an outsider's point of view I I think that's a great way to take these players minds off of the fact that they've got a huge nationally televised game yes coming up when they take on cal of course again you can catch right here on WLS AMA ninety ends look a whole lot of stuff going on out in the bay area I absolutely I mean first of all it wouldn't be a game without a pep rally right no I hadn't the twenty nine th the first bowl of men open to fans is the pep rally redbox bowl pep rally that's at noon at Justin Herman plaza and Market Street that's a famous street in San Francisco it's free and it's public and a chance for fans to have a great time middle of the later on in the evening at least I'll dare in on on the west coast that is the bowl bash at the bay that again will be open to the public in that it'll be it'll be a good time at some located at oracle park now I'm not sure exactly where that you want that's twenty four Willie Mays plaza that's good for the giants play I have a baseball team so that'll be that'll be fun and and you know the the good times continue to roll on the the following morning well they do that's the game day run club so that happens there actually embarking from embark could there plaza I think I said that correctly and the guys are staying at the Hyatt regency and so they're gonna run on over to the where all the action is happening the run is open to everyone it's four miles so you have to be ambitious to join in that activity well I think it's important to to give a little bit of history of this game date run club it's actually hosted by you'll vie athletic director Josh women he threw this out on social media a while ago didn't know how would go but he's a fat guy he played at the university of Illinois and now he's the athletic director down there in Champaign so sorry I wanted to go for a run on game day he does it every morning prior to the games and the next thing you know as is usually the case with social media this thing catches fire so all the sudden people started running with him so this is the game day run again brought to you by the athletic director Josh women who was just just very very passionate not only about the football team you know which he played on which just anything involving a line I sports he's he's front and center cheering them on so that'll be fun Embarcadero plaza a huge tour stop in San Francisco so that'll be it'll be fun to watch get the people's feedback on on how that goes well right in place with that run and that's a stress reliever you know much like the guys traveling to Alcatraz and going to the game tonight and all of that it's a stress reliever but you can't stay too late at all the pregame activities if you're gonna run for my word to the wise there's also a pre game party looks like I'm the game day at ten AM yeah so that'll be a good time as well and you know as we said that we think that we think that tell you my fans are gonna be out there in full force the they travel well and in that you know nothing like going through a bit of some lean years to make a G. P. people's interest and get out there and support you're fighting a lot of little be fun three one two five nine one eighty nine hundred if you got a prediction on the red box bowl again as the fighting Illini face the California golden bears or you know any of the any of the bowl games still yet to come in fact one E. is under way it is the peach bowl chick fillet people that is between the top rank LSU Tigers and the fourth ranked Oklahoma Sooners and I think Justin said he pretty made a bold prediction he said that Ellis you wearing fifty up on the Sooners I think this game at least is the way it's playing out right now is going to be a little bit closer than predicted Ellis you just scored it's still in the first quarter you're about ready to go up fourteen seven on the Sooners the but the big one tonight in in our minds Susan second ranked Ohio state at thirteen and no big ten this year taking on three Clemson that's going to be a that's gonna be a big match up it's going to be big and like you said a lot of these these games today really too close to call our I I don't even think he the experts know exactly who's gonna win who's gonna who's gonna make it yeah I I just don't you know the so called the so called experts they didn't really do much by Illinois this year with some other point spreads and how they kind of I guess disrespected them I would like to say well Shalom right exactly so yeah again the marquee matchup is going to be is is going to be huge and it just kind of a little bit of a history of claims and and Ohio state the Ohio state they've got they've got a little bit on the line here not just the fact that they want to win and go on to the national championship but the last time they faced constant was back in two thousand sixteen it was new year's eve out in Glendale Arizona Clemson crush them thirty one to nothing in urban Meyer said after the game not only do we embarrass ourselves in Paris the whole state of Ohio well our you got that right yeah and this is one of their first appearances in this poll are college football playoff to have their own my time I'm talking about Oklahoma part yeah I know that's okay yeah no we're do where does did send stuff to keep track of these days but look that's gonna be a good game of the one that's going on right now is Ellis you and Oklahoma hi you know it's just in these teams are so evenly matched we talked about it earlier I don't think it's you know overstating its when you say that I really like the top four teams this year and as they kinda you know get get themselves into that national championship of formation I think it's some we want to go with I think it'll be Ellis you're not really going out on a limb here because they're also even the match I think it'll be Ellis you and climbs in in the championship game just we think you're racing around so somebody thank I'm going with Justin we have I said I know but just since our fabulous producer he is just a few more minutes to go here wanna thank Brian Barnhart he joined us earlier he calls the games for the university of Illinois does football and basketball which by the way you can also hear basketball on WLS AM eight ninety and just really looking forward to the weekend to the game absolutely and we have basketball tomorrow right we do skip all tomorrow tomorrow night and other well Hey we're talking we're we're in need deep in football talking red box full everybody's so excited that we're going bowling we're going bowling for the first time since twenty fourteen and we're all excited about that and you can hear both football and basketball right here on WLS AM eight ninety pregame started to write does yeah warm the fans are going to warm the faithful examines so that's the time to tune in yeah definitely that's definitely the time to tune in and and then we have more sports programming for you and full coverage of your fighting Alaina North Carolina agency there you go that's to start though I for some reason I have to start time mixed up one o'clock so the pre game will be a little bit in advance of that and you know since Brian is out in San Francisco I think a good friend Scott Beatty who join us on the show before you might be doing the call of this game I don't know but I I think you might and we'll get on him because it's so it should be decent game and then you just touching on basketball briefly since we we started talking about it then after this game against North Carolina agency of finding a line I really get into the bulk of the big ten schedule after the first of the year on January second more specifically they take on Michigan state Purdue Wisconsin writers northwestern that's an instance big ten team then they played two again Michigan Minnesota Iowa and then you know then it's obviously it's conference schedule so it'll be interesting to see they they're off to a good start as well they are they absolutely are and how we should thanks god also for his contributions and helping us out during football season yeah yeah well he's he is good and he falls in on a daily basis and really knows the ins and outs of a few of our football and I wanna call amount for predicting that you know you know I was gonna we were all day we were all depressed at one point in the season it was kind of a roller coaster season has we've touched upon and he did he did say the vibe down here is not good he did say that yeah well if is down in champagne right right my special thanks first of all to Justin we only who's helped out with the shows yes we did two during the bye weeks this season and then this one leading into the red box ball again two o'clock pregame on WLS AM eight ninety on Monday as the fighting a line I get set to take on the cal "With these last two games? I know it does I do the that. That line is down to to a point and a half in most spots cowboys favored by point half. I do have a feeling that by the time we get gametime Aaron. There's going to be much more action in the cowboys. The Eagles which will probably get me into a position raw. Consider playing the eagles but on paper just analyzing the game. The Eagles aren't very good and the cowboys. Potential is very good I just see the cowboys winning this game and winning the division. And then you know what as they you may not be Dak Prescott S- injury could have a lot to do with this. I mean I I if he doesn't if he doesn't play then obviously they're in deep trouble if he plays as an he's compromised you know they could be in deep trouble because he's going to have to throw the football against Philadelphia. Philadelphia does not give a lot on the ground. Even though the the cowboys elbows can run the football the Monday night games the other big game of the week packers Vikings We'll have time to talk about that on Monday. I do like the Vikings in that game. I think they're I think kirk cousins GonNa break this Monday night streak there up to a five and a half point favorites started. The week is a four point favored. Erin they're up to five and a half and delvin cooks out Dalvin cooks not playing in that game in the line is gone up in the game. I think there's a lot I think vegas doesn't like Green Bay. Yeah I don't think it's that they love Minnesota. I think they're not in love with Green Bay. Remember you know the packers last week at home were only a four point favorite over over the bears. Right that's right so the Vegas not a big fan of the packers This season All right let's finish up the The show with a skins score and prediction Scott Scorn. More time to settle. The score is sore and more. I.

"NFL the biggest blaze and look. Let's let's talk about got some of these games from yesterday. First of all Dallas destroyed the rams yesterday forty four to twenty one. There are a couple of interesting things from that game yesterday. Erin number for one was did you see the confusion over the coin. Toss yesterday in that game. So for those that missed Dak Prescott was one of the captains went out the cowboys won the toss and Prescott. Said we'll kick. It will kicking. It is a decision. It's not deferring the decision to the second half and so Anderson the referee essentially said you WANNA kick it giving them another chance and then he said something that Anderson had referee thought was yes we want to kick it which means that they kick it off to open the game and then the rams this would have their choice to receive it or kick it in the second half so they went to the Review Al River on New York. They went to review of the sound from the coin toss and they heard Dak Process Prescott apparently upon further review given a chance to clarify his position. Say that he defers. Yes so even though it looked throughout the first half that the rams were going to get the ball to start the game and to start the third quarter they fixed it and they came out in the second half and the cowboys got the ball. None of it really mattered. Because the cowboys destroyed the rams they rushed for two hundred sixty three yards. Elliot had a buck seventeen touchdowns Tony Pollard. The rookie had one hundred thirty one yards. And a late game touchdown as well The cowboys defensively totally shut down L.. A. Through the competitive portion of the game and they want going away forty four to twenty one and they go to Philadelphia via for a Sunday afternoon. You know right before the holiday this time of year you get these big games in this next last week of the season and they're gonNA play the Eagles first place in the NFC. Sunday at the link in Philadelphia. The cowboys are two and a half point favorites over the eagles and their two and a half point favorites for this very simple reason. They're the better better team the better team. They're very capable. Sean Lee was on monster yesterday. Monster and they don't even have banned address right now They're very capable. They're poorly coached. We know that But they're very capable and I think at home in a wild card weekend we can game in Dallas Against San Francisco or Seattle a five seed. You know one of those two is likely to be the five seed Minnesota Soda could still be the five seed but more likely than not it would be the division runner up in the NFC west is going to travel to Dallas. And I could see the cowboys giving that team very difficult time at home. They beat Seattle last year in the post season. Yeah that's one that I'm looking more and more we're at we always. I shouldn't say always but it does seem kind of often that we get these crappy division winners we go. Why are they always you know? Why are they? Let in this is ridiculous and they just go out and win the most notable of course being that Seattle nineteen but So I've been looking at that more and more and no it wouldn't shock me thousands of winning the game. Well here's the thing you get teams that limp into the postseason. That aren't very good when you watch them. You know that. Even their best isn't good enough and the thing that you have to recognize about the cowboys is their best is good enough. If they play their best they're capable of making a run in the postseason. Zeke Elliott is a monster. I love watching this dude run. He breaks more tackles and has more yards after. Contact the line of scrimmage. He's a pleasure to watch play anyway. The cowboys destroyed the rams and that sets up the game game with the Eagles on Sunday. Cowboys are the better team. That's why they're favored on the road. Utah Cowboys being a two. And a half point favorite on the road means they would be an eight and a half point point favorite at that game. We're in Dallas this Sunday remember. They destroyed the eagles. Haven't they won. They've won a bunch of games in a row now against eagles right. They won earlier this year. They founded the eagles in that Sunday. Night game thirty seven to ten last year. I remember Sunday night. They won in Philadelphia. That's what sparked their whole run last year Yeah okay. So they. To Anno- last year they won the second game they did lose the first game in two thousand seventeen okay so four straight. They've won four straight over the eagles this year. That game at the end of two thousand seventeen nothing with the backup players with the eagles six six nothing eagles but the two games last year were big games in two thousand eighteen team. It was the game on the Sunday night that really propelled Dallas to like four or five six game win streak whatever that turned out to be the turn their season around at three and five. I think the cowboys how we were three and five the break last year at the midway point last year so anyway that's you know. And here's what guarantees guarantees is that the NFC east winner is going to be at least eight. You know potentially nine and seven because the eagles finished with the giants and the Redskins and the cowboys finished with the redskins now the cowboys Albouy win on Sunday against the Eagles that clinches the division because they would own the head to head tiebreaker breaker. So even if they lost to the redskins in the season finale would not matter now if the Eagles win the game on Sunday they ah I believe still need the cowboys. They would still need to beat the giants because if they lost to the giants and the cowboys all boys won the cowboys would end up having a better division record so follow that one more time Dallas Winds Sunday. It's over because they sweep the eagles. The Eagles Win Sunday. They have to beat the giants in the season. Finale to get to nine and seven or the cowboys could still win. The division by beating the redskins skin and having the giants beat the Eagles in that game for Philadelphia. is the in the meadowlands to end the season at New York. A team that they barely beat on Monday night a week ago I liked Dallas to win the game. That's Mike early. Hunch we'll I I've not seen what kind of action there or is but I just think they're the better football team so the Sunday night game last night was buffalo beating Pittsburgh to clinch a playoff offspring. The bills are in. The playoffs. Are Ten and four in Sean McDermott. What a season? The bills have tended four Josh Allen to me. I don't care about his numbers. He is a baller he he makes plays when they need. Plays Devon Single Terry. We've talked about him last year. The draft it's got a hold onto the ball but he's a dangerous running back but their their their strength is their defense defenseman. Tremaine Edmonds Davis White Jordan fillup shack loss and Trent Murphy continues to play well. Lorenzo Alexander under continues to play. Well I've been MICA hide fan from the days of Green Bay these arguments with Cooley about Mike Hide. I'm like he's just a player man. He's always around the boys. Eighth to slow can't run whatever player Buffalo's defense legit real legit Pittsburgh's still alive for that last wildcard carts spot despite the loss. We're Devon Hodges Dell and duck. Hodges look terrible four interceptions took sacks. Couldn't I mean they were lucky to be close in watching that game. Buffalo just looked like the better team to me in that game last night. Buffalo's got the Patriots this coming week on that Saturday tripleheader mark. What a Saturday tripleheader? EVERY GAME SCOTT PLAYOFF STAKES HOUSTON AT TAMPA. Houston's got to win. Tampa is very difficult to deal with right now. Then Buffalo New England and a game in which buffalo can still win the division. They went to and the Patriots lose to. Yes and then the Saturday night game is rams at Niners niners you know trying win the division try and still get the one seed the rams an outside shot they would have to win their final. Two in the Vikings would have to lose their final outside to get a wild card birth. Really good Saturday tripleheader on the NFL. Network I had completely forgotten about the games too. Yeah the Saturday tripleheader really the Looks like a good one Elsewhere yesterday the Texans and the Titans in one of the biggest games of the day. I had the Texans in the smell test even although I liked the titans but the public was backing titans. I took the Texans. They won the game twenty four to twenty one. They had a lead. They seem to be in control. You knew I really like is back Carlo side. You know he's a good back. Both of these teams. I think are capable in difficult outs. Now maybe not against Baltimore but I like both of these teams you know cooling. Never liked bill. O'Brien I don't think he gets nearly enough credit. I like Rachel a lot more. I loved to Shawn Watson. They got a court. Remember all the years when Houston was making the playoffs without a quarterback and then got quarterback into Shawn. Watson Hopkins is a beast. Fuller's good stills has come in in played really well for them the Texans get to nine and five titans are still alive for both the Texans play at Tampa not an easy a game. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if that games like pick him. I haven't even looked at that line. What do you think that line is right now Erin Houston at Tampa Saturday? I think especially with Evans and Godwin out. I'm going to say Houston's a slight favourite one and a half Evans's out Evans is out and God when when it does seem like he's likely to be out next Houston's a one and a half point favorite now that there you go one and a half point favorite at Tampa I. New England's is six and a half point favorite at at home Saturday against Buffalo and the forty niners or six and a half over the rams. I actually thought that would have been a little bit higher. I bet the rams look like a play to me on Saturday night. So the Texans win that first Tennessee still alive but Tennessee is New Orleans. This weekend in Houston has the game against Tampa. uh-huh not easy games at all the the craziest ending to a game with the San Francisco Atlanta Game San Francisco screwing Atlanta. Think about this. The forty niners played a forty eight to forty six game a week ago in New Orleans to really good supposed defensive teams right now. They're playing Atlanta. Not a good defensive team in its thirteen to ten early in the fourth quarter San Francisco Thirteen to ten now. This stretch of schedule The forty the niners have had going Green Bay Baltimore New Orleans had to take something out of him going into this game. I've mentioned that the Falcons we're going to be a difficult team to deal with the rest of the way they're just too capable offensively and they've really shown it in the fourth quarter It's back and forth. The forty niners kick a field goal to got twenty two thousand seventeen with about a minute and fifty left. And then felt the Falcons with Matt Ryan leading the way. Go on a long drive. They're down at the goal line. There's a pass has to Julio Jones at the goal line which is going to be the final play of the game he he's ruled you know he's ruled short of the goal line replay overturns. It gives them the touchdown they put two seconds back on the clock twenty three twenty two Atlanta now at the lead very. Interestingly and I would not have done this just a little bit of strategically here so Dan Quinn with two seconds to go up. Twenty three to twenty two. The move there. is you go to to try to make it a three point lead. He put his two point conversion team out there and took a knee did not want to run a play now. The risk is you throw a pick you get hit fumble. They recover it and return it for for two point score. But that's a one in five hundred play. I don't know what it is one in one hundred fifty one hundred..

"But okay yeah I mean I think like he's he if he looked at this and thought you know what the Eagles are gettable. The giants are certainly gettable. The cowboys may not have anything to play for. If I I finish winning five of our last six and I go as a head coach all right at that point it would be six and five life. I go six and five over my eleven games with three wins in the division getting back on the on the proper footing with respect to the division division at sixty three years old. I'm going to get a real opportunity. I think there was more. The second part of this is the defense the defense let him down as it did early early in the season. You know I had Larry on the show. Larry even talked about how it had to be. He felt that Callahan was agitated. And it might have had to do with the defense to hear Larry even sort of imply that there was something specific means that he really felt it. 'cause it's hard to get that at a Larry And I thought to myself Ga- you know Muskie's defense eleven for sixteen on Third Down Dino that that is now twenty to thirty three against the Eagles in two games on third down which which has to be close to a record and I'm sure going into the game yesterday. You know they look at the first game. And he's he's like with Greg Greg. We gotta get off the field on third down. They were eleven for seventeen in the opener. That's why we lost the opener we got to get. We gotTA have a plan to get off the field on third down and then it ends up being worse then it was in the opener by the way could have been worse because once missed a couple of third down conversions easy ones so it was the the frustration over manetzky eighty. Which I think? There's a lot of organizational frustration over Manetzky which they tried to solve that problem last off season and they couldn't but I think he's saying I. I finally got a young quarterback that's playing well offensively. We scored twenty seven points in fifty one place. They had twenty two more offensive snaps than we. I did and my damn defensive coordinator couldn't just get them off the field one more time just once get him off the field once and we win the game so I think there was some frustration there as there has been organizationally with enough ski. What do you make of that affair? Although I guess my question is when they had the ball before they kicked the final Dustin Hopkins Field Goal their fourth and one You know I you know I told the short one or.

"He had a third short throw on their first drive of the second half to ward words wide open and just misses him. Misses him low. It's incomplete they had to punt. That should have been conversion. I looked this up earlier on the radio. Show the Eagles in two games against the REDSKINS. Eleven for seventeen in the opener. Eleven for sixteen yesterday. Twenty two of thirty three the third down. That's pretty hard like I love to know if somebody keeps stats stats on the best third-down number all time in two games in one season twenty two of thirty three sixty six percent okay. That's ridiculous. The redskins were terrible on third down there back to last in third down defense after yesterday. Forty eight percent tied with Houston for thirty second in the NFL. I'm it's just not good enough. Their run defense wasn't good enough yesterday. They got drawed to death yesterday lot of draws on third Jordan long including the fifty six yard backbreaker by Sanders on third and eleven that led to the score that gave Philadelphia Twenty four twenty one lead in the fourth quarter. I I mean they ran another one Earlier in the game I think was Scott on like third and nine. We picked up the first down easily. They looked at nickel and they said we can draw these guys. In one of the reasons they can is. Montana's sweats terrible. I'm not saying that he's terrible for good. This was the guy I loved. I don't get it. I have not seen the same guy I I watched it. Mississippi state a guy with a burst agai with legit edge speed a guy with a relentless motor I mean relentless. This guy gets stuck on blocks. His reaction time. Two screens was poor. There's not a lot of urgency to his game now. He's a first year player. And we've Seen Ryan Anderson Ryan Anderson didn't look very good his rookie year then looked good last year. You Know Montas Sweat. Though I thought was particularly bad yesterday. As was Josh Norman who came in for like all of six or seven snaps after Coleman got her. They didn't intend on playing Josh Norman but they had so many injuries that He had to go into the game. He didn't appear interested in being in the game. Either and he became a target for the eagles including the game winner to award a Monte Nicholson's late hit on earth was just a stupid penalty. I tweeted out that if you're a real coach you pull them from that game at that point maybe not for the whole game here. Not a lot of you had a problem with me. tweeting that and it wasn't that it was a vicious. You know hit it was just so late in so obvious that he was doing it intentionally and just as stupid like the ball has sailed over his head and it's like a second half later here comes. Nicholson for a little sideways. Oh I'd ways you know big hit on on on defenseless receiver. Of course it was GONNA get flagged it was stupid instead of having third and Super Long. It's first and and ten the touchdown passes that they threw in the goal to go situations. My God how do you leave. Erz Wide Open as he got in some of those situations -Tuation especially the one in the in the second half when they had four defenders on three receivers in Erz is the guy he's the guy you gotta check and you couldn't cover him. It didn't make any sense at all. They really struggled in the in the red zone defensively. They struggled defensively the all day long. Lastly on the things that I didn't like list was Callahan's clock management He just doesn't know how to do it. I we do this so so much that I think it gets tiresome for some of you but for those of you wondering He went to the locker room at the end of the game with time out in his back pocket okay. That's that's inexcusable. They had multiple opportunities to use those timeouts on defense to give them a lot more time when they got the ball. Back offense he'd have to really have like an unbelievable explanation for it like I don't know I had lead somebody else. Has that responsibility. I don't know how to do it and I left it up to Kevin O'CONNELL an O'CONNELL was over there talking to Duane about the next drive and forgot have to do it i. I don't even know what the answer would be. It's terrible though you had to use it on defense. They should have had a minimum of thirty five seconds. Left thirty five more seconds in addition to the eight th. They should've had fifty three seconds left when they got the ball back first and ten from their own thirty one with at least one time out left with one time or they could have had more than that with no timeouts left. He just doesn't know how to do it. Jay Gruden didn't know how to do. It doesn't know how to do it. Nobody in the organization nation appears to know how to do it. They're not alone in the league That's for sure but what it did is it made. It made it so that they had the ball from their own. Thirty one with eighteen seconds left to timeouts instead of say fifty three seconds left one time out that would have been a better situation needing touchdown down thirty one. Twenty any seven I certainly would have thought about using that last time out before the final snap you WanNa get a hail. Mary off. Haskins has the arm. Let them throw one into the end zone here comes Philadelphia with some blitz pressure and you And the Redskins And he got sacked through backwards and it got returned for touchdown. How about calling your last time out there rather than taking it into the locker room with you to make sure everything's blocked up? I missed something actually from the things that I liked list I was just thinking. It just reminded me when I mention Kevin O'CONNELL's named Kevin O'CONNELL called a really good game on yesterday. Maybe his best game as a play caller first of all we talked about on on Friday with the key to beating Philadelphia was offensively and I said they have to throw the football this week. You can't run it against Philadelphia. GotTa throw it. You got to be aggressive in. This should be the game that Dwayne has a chance to just sit back there and throw the football so they did it but they did it on early down distance situations and it was successful. And then Philadelphia's started to bring more into the box and start to blitz the early down situations and Kevin O'CONNELL hits them with a few screens. He really had a feel feel for the game yesterday. He did an excellent excellent job couple of final observations. From the game yesterday the Ryan Anderson roughing the passer and Carson Carson Wentz was terrible call. It wasn't late and it wasn't low. It was perfection they hit was and then one other observation so the end of the first half. Why didn't Doug Peterson? Decline a holding penalty against the redskins. Doug Peterson does some things. Every once in a while. He's is a super bowl winning coach. You know he's he's you know very bright and very innovative There are things he'll do every once in a while where I'm like. No that's not the right thing to do. The redskins had he called time out when the redskins had the ball the end of the first half from their own nine yard line after six yard game. He wants to get the ball back. He's aggressive recive. I don't have a problem with that. It was after a second and four incompletion. We're there was a holding penalty called on West Martin who I thought Just as an aside played really well for Brandon Sheriff and it's third and four from their own fifteen. He declines the holding penalty. He he chose third and four over second and fourteen and even at that point. Maybe it's half half the distance. Maybe it's second twelve second eleven. You don't decline that penalty E- very I mean especially considering the Redskins had been moving the football third and four. They declined the penalty. Haskins Hits Thompson on the screen. I down and the redskins are often moving. Get anything out of that drive. They certainly could have but that was.

"I mean we go to the one on ELM street in Bethesda. But they've got to in Rockville one in Silver Spring College Park One in Fairfax won an all the Mamma Lucia restaurants and thanks to them for always bringing in food During the course of the week for us all right the game. Let me start with the things that that I liked. I'M GONNA start with this. The team was ready to play again. You know admitted it last week. I've been leaning leaning in this direction for a month. Now I've killed Callahan. Much of the year old man bill and his press conferences. Still drive me nuts. Even even those even though yesterday's was incredibly short which will get to because there may have been some meaning there. I would not want him back next year as the head coach. But you'd have to be blind at this point not to notice that they just are a much better team during his nine games as interim as interim head coach then they were with Jay Gruden now there are three and six overall with him. Okay the winds are not super impressive. Either the dolphins with Josh Rosen. Mo- mostly mostly the Lions with a backup the panthers the backup there. Three wins have come against teams with a combined. Eleven and thirty record so so there is that but watching the games. I mean. We see a team that really really tries hard every week. We see a tougher team a more physical team and yes a more disciplined team which is what he promised at the beginning of the year. And you know what else we've seen. We've seen a team that's been improving being a team. That's gotten better as the season has gone on. That's a credit to the players. Yes but that's also a credit to the coaching staff led led by old man Callahan. Now do I want a continuation of Callahan in two thousand twenty. Am I out campaigning. For Callahan and twenty twenty. No I'm not some of you might be now. I am not going to do that. I just don't see him as being an elite head coach in this league but I give them credit. I give them a lot of credit. He mentioned after the game that you know it was a bit self congratulating but I think deserved about how hard they're playing for team that's out of it and that you just rarely see that usually you see teams that quit. I tend to agree with them. Although yesterday wasn't the day to say it Because you had teams like the giants winning the re the Redskins were close. The jags who season is over winning and Oakland the cardinals souls who season is over blowing out the browns. The Falcons who season is over playing hard and beating the forty niners in you have that on on occasion. The bengals actually had the lead over the Patriots. In the first half who's tend to seven late in the second quarter they came out and played hard as well but I credit them For the way they have played and improved The best indication of a team team. That's being coached. Well is a team that improves as the season goes on in his playing their best football at the end of the year. And even though they're not winning these games they're playing much better football again. Don't misread what I'm saying. I do not want Bill Callahan. Back next year. I don't want Bruce Allin back. I don't want Bill Callahan back and I definitely don't want Greg Gerski back more on that shortly on. The list of things that I liked from yesterday is Dwayne. Haskins askins. His best game He's confident he's a competitor He's been that in all of his starts and he's made plays in his previous start some very good place yesterday. The most good plays of any game. He's played all year if you start with the second snap of the game second Nate Alot Alot snap. He's gotTa dig it out of the ground he does it very calmly with poise. Picks it up and slings. It sidearm. Daydream Peterson for ten yards. A few plays later. It's say second and six shotgun quick. Snap quick throw quick game. Quick Release Love his release when he is confident which is often and he knows where he's going the ball gets out quickly. Look at that throat a sprinkle there was the touchdown throw to McLaren which was a lot of maclaurin. After the catch there was a I intend ten back shoulder to maclaurin that drew a pass interference penalty. He's aggressive you know. Even when he threw inaccurately like to Stevenson's junior you're on their third drive of the game there's recognition much more so now pre snap on where he's going to go with the ball and where the right place nice to go with. The ball is sims made some really good catches. That was one of them. How bad is speed options? How about them using him in the option game? You know it's there's a read their you know it speed option because there's no mesh handoff so he's coming down the line is still gotta read the D. End and either keeps it or pitches it the first one great ball all handling skills good patients and he fakes. The pitch turns it up and then comes back to the pitch and pitches. The Peterson who picks up fourteen yards. Then you had the big third and one option keeper late in the game for twenty three yards. I've mentioned this before but for those that have missed it. I suggested suggested back in training camp and preseason games that I was watching a guy that was much more mobile than the guy I remembered from Ohio state and he looked thinner her and he looked quicker. John Crime a mentioned this to me recently that he has had conversations with Dwayne and joins admitted that he lost a lot of body fat between his senior year at Ohio. State the end of that season's not senior year. The end of that season of his season last year and the beginning of training camp. He worked at that and lost a lot of body fat. It shows. He's much more mobile then he then he appeared to be at Ohio State. He plays with urgency. NC He plays with composure. He plays like he knows what what's going on. This is like the irony with the early season concern like yesterday was the first delay of game penalty. I think they've had or the first time out. I'm sorry that they had to call because of the play clock winding down and then and yesterday there was a situation that really for me I thought was impressive. Bear with me. Here was second goal at the Philadelphia. Five Yard line second quarter. They're down ten to seven. The play clock is winding down most rookie. QB's have no idea that the play clock is winding down. You look at them. And they're lost first and then their coach will hit a timeout. Or they'll take the delay of game penalty but while he's urgently trying to get the receivers into the right spots and maybe he called the play way incorrectly. I don't know but he's urgent and trying to get everybody into the right location all the while you can see him keeping an eye on the play clock and when he realizes he's not going to get the playoff he calls timeout now. Callahan had called the time out simultaneously as well. But you could see the Dwayne and was all over a lot of things he's all he's over. The fact that people aren't lining up correctly is urgently trying to get lined up in the right spots. He's watching the play clock simultaneously. Taniwha something that is easy for young quarterbacks. You see it all the time with young quarterbacks they have no idea how much time's left on the play clock walk he did and then after the timeout they come out its second goal. I think it was second third and goal. Whatever it was and Sim Assim seems to line up in the incorrect spot again? Haskins very urgent gets him into the right spot. And then throws him a touchdown pass. This guy is so far. You're from confused and overwhelmed. You Know Callahan. Sit last week. I brought this up. If you recall Callahan said he just doesn't get phased you you know meaning. He doesn't get rattled that's not him. He had some bad plays yesterday. He's had some bad plays in every game. Lot Of quarterbacks have bad place to go with good good place. A lot of young quarterbacks have many more bad place than good place he had some bad throws the Sims wide open. Throw on the third drive of the game. He threw behind signed him now. Seems makes a great catch. But it's not a great throw. He had the late throw to harm in when he worked backside to Harmon in the end zone that got deflected nearly picked that was late. The last two throws of the first half are not good throws middle of the field the sims another may have been a miscommunication on that he's thrown into three redefined or should have been picked and then as they're approaching into their midfield right for the end of the half trying to get field goal range he's got Sims wide open for twenty twenty five yards and he misses him because he throws off his back foot. You know that that's not a good play by him. It certainly would have been nice to see him. Get that Hail Hail. Mary launched at the end of the game. Now I put that on Callahan for not using his timeouts well at the end of the game and get to that in a moment but he took one with them to the locker room room but before that last snap I think they had time out left. I didn't Callaghan to call the timeout. Because they saw billy lining up to blitz they weren't playing eight and coverage nine coverage. They were coming with extra pressure. Call your last time out. Make sure it's blocked up. Well Join Haskins. Yesterday was nineteen of Twenty eight for the two hundred sixty one yards two touchdowns no sacks he had sixty point six raw. QBR that's good very solid. Had A one twenty one point three passer rating. That's excellent. Some of you had made up your mind on him already. Some of you have already made up your mind even after yesterday that you just don't think he can do it. I think it's ridiculous to have that opinion at this point. You've certainly seen more. That would give you belief that he can do it more than he can't do it now. At what level can he do that. That's still the jury's still out on that one I'm not just because of yesterday. Don't get me wrong. I'm not I'm not sold on him after yesterday. I'm the building towards as I mentioned and have mentioned being much more intrigued about his future than I ever. I thought I would be. He's got talent. He's got a toughness and a simultaneous composure. Poise about him that Lens. Well to the position he was a B.. Plus yesterday be plus Terry McLaren's so good now is he jerry rice. Good now is he. Julio Julio Jones I I don't think so he's for third round pick Terry maclaurin. Looks like a steal. He is a deep threat. He's a guy that runs away from people if he catches it in space. He's a guy that you've gotta give space to. Because he can run by you catches everything he's got some wiggle after the catch maclaurin another really good game yesterday. As he's pretty much had all season long five catches one hundred thirty yards one touchdown that seventy five yarder. How how about Stephen Sims Junior Sims junior or tweet Trey Quinn right now as you're slot guy I mean come on Sims. Junior has ridiculous game breaking ability. The redskins have added speed and game breaking game a playmaking ability offensively. He had five catches forty five yards. He dropped one also had a couple of good returns Had One of his kickoffs go. Yeah forty one yard kickoff on one of them nearly broke it. He looks like he's a threat to break it. Every time emme touches it who's back there on punt returns Stevenson's junior is a steel right. Now he is a slot guy he is a guy that you you know. He's GonNa be a difficult match up especially if you have speed on one side and potentially liking Kelvin Harmon. A possession type of guy on the other side Stevenson's Stevenson's junior really really good game. Great catch on that third drive of the game on the throw. That was behind him in a really good job on the touchdown. Catch getting both feeding Ryan. Brian Anderson's the most improved player on this roster from last year. So you take all the rookies in first-year players out the guys that were on the roster last year. You tell me me one guy that has improved more from last year than Ryan Anderson. He is he's a different player. First of all so aggressive aggressive. So confident has quick quick twitch speed. I never thought he had it. He's tough to block any makes plays gets to the quarterback and forces fumbles symbols Ryan. Anderson is really really playing at a high level. I think coal holcombes very good too. I just love the speed. So you're adding speed defensively. Offensively I like coal holcomb speed Fifth Rounder at North Carolina are the things that I didn't like List other third down defense was just awful. Eleven for sixteen on third down. That's not nearly good enough Truth is Carson Wentz Miss. Some things could have had a better number on third down. They finished up..

"Cooley on the call yesterday on Redskins radio. Greg Ward was the quarterback if you recall at the University of Houston now Catching balls in the NFL. Seven of them for sixty one yards including the go ahead and ultimately turned out to be the game winning touchdown against the Redskins who really hit it perfectly yesterday. If you're a fan of this team they played well. The young guys got confidence. The rookie quarterback made a lot of progress. Had the best game of the year for him but they didn't lose any ground in the draft order right now remaining meaning right there in the number four position the bengals at one giants to two dolphins at three redskins at four Erin. That's the current draft order for twenty twenty twenty however this coming week while many teams will be battling it out to be able to play in January. The bengals will face the dolphins and the redskins will play with face the giants with April in mind the losers benefit the winners do not in a draft. That more likely the nut. We'll see JOE borough go one overall in chase young then in the running with anybody who is at number two even though chase young said Saturday At the heisman ceremony Ramona that he might go back to Ohio state. I would doubt that that would happen but anyway. Good date all of you. It's Erin and I today And Ben Standing will join us A little bit later later on in the show it was actually a good football game. The redskins eagles game was an entertaining. Football game you know it's back and forth worth it's you know basically nobody having a more than a four or a three point lead until the final. Play the game Aaron. What'd you make of? That bad beat denied. You'LL BR Adam fumble return everybody in the press box as soon as it happened at Susan's running down. The field was were saying some form of God the spread. Yeah it was the spread. I told you Friday I thought the line would go higher and it went much higher from four four and a half all the way to six and a half at game time. There is a lot of short money. Liane Philadelphia I think they looked at the match and thought it wasn't the best of matchups for the Redskins. There the Redskins were you know they were battling the best offensive day of the year for them since the opener against Philadelphia having a chance to win the game Up Twenty seven twenty four with the eagles driving late Getting that go ahead touchdown with twenty six seconds to go in the game and then Still covering it plus four at thirty one. Twenty seven on the final play the game Haskins skains throws it backwards. As he was getting sacked and Nigel Bradley picks it up and rumbles nearly fifty yards for what turned out to be a Philadelphia cover. Cover thirty seven to twenty seven. It wasn't the worst beat of the day. The worst of the day came in Santa Clara at the end of the forty nine or Falcon game which we will get to allay a little bit later on when we go around the NFL but the Redskins are three and eleven all right the eagles seven seven and and very much alive now with the showdown game in the NFC. The worst division and football this year will produce a huge game in the penultimate week of the twenty nine thousand nine season and next Sunday afternoon. Four twenty five the big game on Fox. It's Dallas Philadelphia if Dallas wins. They clinched the NFC East if Philadelphia wins as they would still need to win the season Finale or have Dallas lose their season finale to Washington But the eagles and the cowboys with a big one at the the links Sunday to pretty much decide the NFC east and interestingly the line came out Philadelphia minus two and a half. The cowboys are now two and a half point favorites. And I think it's real simple. The cowboys are just flat out a better team with much more potential they destroyed the rams that was was a smell test. Pick this weekend Smell test three and two Two consecutive winning weekends with the smell test back to five hundred now on the year and and I I just I. The cowboys went off as a pick. Them you know I I had him here. Friday at plus one and a half. That game was never in doubt. There was some controversy over the coin. Flip we'll get to that that when we go around the NFL a little bit later on but That's the game next Sunday. You know there are several games next Sunday and Monday night and Saturday there. There's a tripleheader Saturday. Saturday which actually includes Tampa Houston and a big game for the Texans. Tamp is on fire. They're seven and seven Jameis Winston threw for four touchdowns and four hundred and fifty fifty yards the dude's GonNa throw for well over five thousand this year Then you have. The middle of the day on. Saturdays is bills at patriots. The Bills Dell's clinched a playoff spot last night but they could still win the division by beating the Patriots winning their finale and having the Patriots lose their finale which they won't don't more likely than not against the dolphins But the bills are really good. Defensive Team they clinched a playoff spot by beating the steelers on Sunday night football. You got the the The Saturday night game which is forty niners rams in after the forty niners lost yesterday there now basically in second place behind Seattle that game looming is the season finale in Seattle between the forty niners and the seahawks But the rams have to win to remain alive if they lose that game the vikings clinch even before their Monday night game against the packers which will keep them alive for the division. The way the Vikings win the division is to win two. And have the packers lose to. But you've got meaningful football going on next weekend and then with the bad teams. It's it's strange but your top four draft draft position teams right now. They play each other Cincinnati Miami redskins giants. And it's a IT'S A it's a stakes game. If you're thinking thinking about chase young number two you know if if the bengals end up with the number one pick which is more likely than not and take joe borough then chase young. We'll be as highly of a is highly valued as probably one of the best evaluations on a pass. Rusher in the drafting years in to finish number two and have have a chance to take him or potentially turn it into a slew of additional picks. If you wanted to package it up and move down It's going to be very valuable there so redskins giants giants Big bengals dolphins. Big On Sunday Again I think if you're a redskin fan and not involved served as a player or a coach or you know a relative of somebody who's playing for their job In your just fan. It worked out beautifully yesterday. They got confidence confidence. They played well and they lost That's hard for some of you to understand and I don't I don't at all have any issues with those of you. Who just want him to win but just remember very little in the? NFL carries over year to year anymore. Barely carries over week to week. You know a win over the giants. this coming Sunday. Sunday isn't going to be relied upon next year for standings or playoff scenarios. It's not going to lead to anything great next year. When you're facing the Falcons or the browns in week six you know of the regular season? Nobody's thinking back to the giants game in week. Sixteen at Twenty nineteen in saying. Hey if we hadn't won that game we wouldn't be where we are and it doesn't work like that in the NFL anymore. There's too much change year to year But anyway when Sunday We'll be interesting at Fedex field yesterday mostly Philadelphia Fans from from what I've been told. Maybe the biggest crowd one of the bigger bigger crowds of the year since the Dallas Alice game anyway but mostly Philadelphia Fans you could hear on. TV Here's another thing just to consider. And that is this that the redskins under Bill Callahan have gone three and six but the six losses were all games in which with the exception of the jet that game they were sort of in they certainly were in the game yesterday. You could argue. They were in the game down seventeen to nine in the fourth quarter last week against the packers. It was the same score. You're in Buffalo. You know a month and a half ago they were down six nothing with the ball in the fourth quarter in the rain against the forty niners. But you do have to wonder under What Kind of credit bill. Callahan is earning right now from the owner And Callahan's biggest supporter. Bruce Bruce Allen. Is He earning credit for this right now with the owner as well you know his Dan Snyder sitting there yesterday watching this team and saying to himself. You know what maybe Bruce was right right. Maybe we are closer than we than I think. Maybe we do have a damn good culture. There's so much wrapped up into this closing of this. I just dreadful season That it's dripping with With potential Both ways a negative potential and positive potential yesterday at the game urban. Meyer is there We broke the news on the team nine eighty yesterday that he was in the owner's box very early in the morning and then he was sitting in the owner's box. Now Terry maclaurin born the receiver said that he's the one that invited urban Meyer to the game. Meyer was in Philadelphia the day before for the Army Navy game So we drove down to see his former wide receiver. Terry maclaurin is former quarterback Dwayne Haskins and his former quarterback Alex Smith who was his quarterback at Utah when Urban Meyer was the coach. There I personally would not read too much into Urban Meyer being at the game yesterday some of you might many of you will hope you will pray. You will dream about about Urban Meyer coming in here next year and taking over. I doubt that he does. I think he would have better options if he wants to coach. And you know the for anybody. The hiring urban minor Meyer. You've got also consider just the burn out factor with him. I mean look at his last two gigs. Quick burn out you know and it'll be interesting to see if he really does want to coach but anyway Yesterday the thing that was more obvious then anything else because nothing was obvious about urban. Meyer being there trust me on that. Um It's not a lock that that was a snyder situation that he's in the running for for the job that he makes considering the job that Alex Smith in an urban Meyer GonNa make the pairing in Washington next year. I would not bet on that The thing that was is obvious yesterday was Dwayne. Haskins played his best game as a pro by far. It wasn't even close. I'm happy for him. He continues to prove in my. I mind anyway that all of the incredible negative angst and apprehension and anxiety over him playing playing earlier in the year of just was not warranted. It just he's not that Kinda guy that you need to get wrapped up in as to whether or not you can damage his psyche. That's not who he is. You know what he is is he is a bad ass competitive dude with some simultaneous poise. I don't know if he's the real deal or not. I still probably wouldn't bet on it but all of the things that I pointed out over the last month month and a half whatever it's been These these are all the reasons to be encouraged not to mention. He's got legitimate talent. You know he's big he's strong. He's got armed talent you know. He's progressing it in. Terms of pre snap is awareness of. What's going on? He played his best game With that let's get to the game take.

Joe Burrow wins 2019 Heisman Trophy

"Tonight but once upon a time he was Joey borough that was back in Athens high school he's now Joe burrow and he is the Heisman Trophy winner from Louisiana State University the unbelievable story we're gonna talk tonight and we welcome in Dave Burke he knows all about Joe burrow when he was Joey borough Dave how are you tonight doing great as always merry Christmas and happy new year coming soon but that's a great night Arnold who loves Ohio high school football as a Heisman Trophy winner another one Joe we borrow also calling you Ali but a great young man and so happy for him and his family his father giving in Islam robin great family and not had a chance to get to know all over several years and it was great to watch after nine see that that he was a landslide blocked landslide victory of the Heisman Trophy absolutely and you posted a story on my Facebook page a flashback from Joey to Joe Berle Heisman finalist and dog you remember him you went to see him play when he was in Athens high school yeah there's a lot of talking I had received a call from a good part of my job McAllister who's been scouting live wire since the late eighties and Hey if you had a chance to see the kids out of that happened jelly part and I know he goes and I love you don't seem tell me what you think and also Scott reed myself we'd we drove a little over two hours away from top level I wonder about people I don't want to be playing merry and bright within a playoff game in two thousand the liberties out thirteen you know I came away an actual doctor who high school quarterback I've ever evaluated not as chicken you know I've been doing this a long time and you know when I sit there and look back at the film that I recorded that night and the things that I saw was a lot of things you're seeing now in college arms down even stronger than what it was in high school but that decision making doing progressive he he he would really not just the first problem that's what you see a lot of times and he's got a high school quarterback the place called they're going to the first option yeah he would actually do bill progressions back in high school and the pay is sold me about Joey bro what they lost a playoff game I usually do not go in interview kids after they've lost I always give them that their time but we've driven like it's over two hours first time you get a chance to see him I just need to get a phone number and I will update the one about you just looking to get the numbers I call you and they will respond as gang anything I'll talk to you and we we did the interview that I have posted on first our football report dot com did you know he'd been in luckily I I you know he's a young man who was very humble what you see tonight when he was awarded the Heisman Trophy in his speech tell you this is the type of kid I met back in two thousand thirteen and I don't suppose the night a direct message we joined back in in December two thousand thirteen and I tell kids all time during the day you have to dream big because here the young man in December on December eighteenth two thousand thirteen all almost your four days away sent me a message because he he didn't really get any attention recording and I do not worry about it it's going to happen because I I would that possibly he was a great quarterback and the thing was is recruitment wow you know I heard you earlier in the show a lot of offers they did pick up one of the ones who did not recruit him what the brass which that one call the night on TV you don't know the story dad played across the coast right and the price that he has older brothers that also played in Nebraska that was kind of like his dream school growing up yeah and but it did you know that never happened in fact you know interesting story with the Ohio state coach Herman leaves Ohio state takes the job in Houston and that one call to that Nebraska coach back comes to Ohio state rumors since moving out to be done by urban Meyer and the Buckeyes coaches that went back came in because Joey star the option of going elsewhere and schools trust me it by that time we're taking serious interest and the one with the team up north but joined the true he he wants to be an Ohio state Buckeye and the circumstances leading to unless you just you know competitiveness yeah wanted to have a chance to show what he "urban meyer" Discussed on First Take

"With number one ring to LSU taking on four th ranked Oklahoma in the second rang. Ohio state buckeyes taking on the defending champion Clemson Tigers on that note we welcome in our friend Meek One and only Paul Paul finebaum summit man boxers around here also always ready to go. I'll take money Adler other. For what a hundred and fifty million this I was sleeping in Max and the blasphemy it teddy atmosphere. y'All should not be asked at the age of forty two to get in the ring with that monster. I agree with that. He won't so what I'm trying to say that he won't he will as he wouldn't have to say. Let me finish my thought. I'd say that he won't as has if he would run from someone. I get back in here so of those who they're speaking speaking of Paul speaking of hearing things we'll get into the college football playoff in just a minute. What am I hearing about? Urban Meyer to the Dallas Cowboys Albouy Jerry Jones and his by daily interview yesterday said that He could not confirm that. The cowboys had not talked to Jerry. Jerry Jones. The the rumors been out there for weeks. It started when Jerry Jones said that he would be honored to be considered to work for the cowboys. You said that the Yang Ming Ma So a reminder Jerry Jones to and I think it's one of the most hilarious thing I've ever heard the idea of urban Meyer who who is a perfectionist. Who's just a freak about everything being in control working in the same operation as Jerry Jones? I would love to see it because the marriage would not make it to the first game right right on the nose went he. Could we do a good job. Paul with the cowboys do you think he could do. The Patriots Urban Meyer. One eighty seven thirty to Korean win. A percentage eighty three and nine at Ohio state ninety percent winning percentage. And you're trying to tell me he couldn't go to Dallas now and do a good job and by the wait. Let's give credit with Chris. Do I know that the network Urban Meyer was sitting down with Colin cowherd formerly of ESPN news now Fox. Let's give credit with creditors talking to but you can do it. Mike do Stephen I think out. So you know besides Sagan Sabin. He's the best coach of this era. I mean he's unbelievable but that doesn't mean he could coexist remember last year going back to the Zack's he he could not handle the the idea of being suspended for three games. The president warned him fired. He went crazy ultimately They pushed him out. I think he said he quit because of health. Reasons doesn't make any difference difference but the idea that that urban Meyer could sit there and listen to Jerry Jones. After a preseason game give media interviews I think he would send on him over the edge and listen. I don't know what his health situation is but it seems like he has used it several times when he has quit. I think this is one of the most interesting college football playoffs offs in terms of. You haven't been that many really but in terms of coaching stories. Like when you look at who all is involved without Sabin but that elevates to to me. What's on the line for Dabo? He can take over his number one Lincoln Riley. Hey but you haven't won anything yet. And guys like musing. He should be the next coach of the cowboys. New Guy at Ohio Ohio state coach. Finally maybe getting the credit. He deserves of all these guys. Who Do you think is the most interesting coaching story? Right right now Paul. Well I think those you're on is the most fascinating because I mean this guy was working on a shrimp boat thirty five years ago. Go and if you had told him or me or anyone else that he would end up being in a national play off ten years ago it got run out of this and I think I was the one who said he was the worst coach in Sec. History that has changed since then I based on the evidence I mean. It's just such a remarkable story because he had no chance of even getting the job. The couple of years ago member he was less mild was fired Four Games into the season he took over. We thought he had to beat Alabama. He didn't he he lost a flora. He got the job. And what's really interesting is. The school originally went after Jimbo Fisher got turned down then. They were desperate to get Tom. Herman urban remember him remember. Tom Hermit He. Is He so coaching in college. Football lost five games this year. Texas cannot transition because I want WanNa get into Clemson and Max is already declared dabbled sweeney the next newt rotten. I'm just saying he is demand right now. I don't think that can be denied. Why are you convinced? They're not going to win the National Championship. 'cause I first of all they played nobody this year for me to get a good evaluation and it's hard I have every reason. Can you believe Dabo is a is a fine coach and they have a really good program. But I've seen Ohio state go up against some really good teams I've seen Lsu just beat down some great teams like Mike Georgia the other day. I haven't seen plums and do anything so I listened If you want to I know you are. You're married to the past Steven you. I just can't wait to give me all the numbers about thirty straight forty straight one hundred stray Emma Jam. I would see it this year. I simply have one. I what I should have. One mandate and undefeated defending reigning national champion. Should have but two hours later. Got The wrong. That's what I'm saying. That's what I'm saying and undefeated raining. Defending national champion should have a right to defend Niclas. We've been here fifteen sixteen trey you keep bringing so now tell you on your own own saving says. Is that your way of Saint. Paul Paul Finebaum that. If it were up to you clemson would not have been in the top four. Stephen A. Like every other massive question every other deeb who gets a vote food or or who gets asked a question I post about every week and this week Clemson was number three. Obviously you're not paying instagram. Saying ought to talk to you. I WANNA cry beating a dead horse here but I need to. I need to get back into this philosophically with you for a second because I totally agree with Stephen Smith for if you're I understand scheduling non conference games. It could be tough. Everything is here the champion. And you haven't lost. You can't pick the conference you play your in the conference you're in right so in terms other than scheduling tougher Outta Conference Games. Even if you had a close call and you went undefeated. You don't think that automatically guarantees at least a playoff slag repeat what I said to him. Do I need to say to you. Okay let me give you a scenario. What if you had a couple more undefeated teams? What if Oregon or or Utah were undefeated and Notre Dame were undefeated and somebody else was under? Then you have a logjam and that no. I don't know that. Say at that point you need some overwhelming evidence that Oregon or Oregon or someone like that they would have probably had like such better wins and won by so much. I listen listen I I. I'm going to throw in the towel here. Trying to explain to you guys. The college football is based on what happens in this calendar year. Not In living chance. I got a question for you. Find this interesting. What does this say about college football? That three of the quarterbacks in this playoff are all transfers it says one of the biggest issues in sport and I said it's a couple of weeks ago in relation to save is the transfer portal. It will drive coaches crazy and Berl left Ohio state. They were covering obviously Salihi Oklahoma recovered Alabama. Didn't it would have been nice to have J. When the school who I think has been hurt. The most by this is Georgia cheik from was a quarterback Saturday Saturday in that massacre in Atlanta. Meanwhile another one of the quarterbacks Georgia went off to Washington who eastern he'll be a first round pick And we obviously know. Justin feels heroes who tobacco flash. You could really barely get on the field. He's now leading Ohio state. So if you're if you're Georgia and three of these guys are from the state of Georgia I mean you. You really haven't issue it. You went old school Jake From and you end.

USC retains coach Clay Helton despite fan dissatisfaction

"Lot of interesting coaching news out there. It's being reported that Clay Helton will definitely remain at SC. That's a surprise because I mean he looked like the dentist coach in America after a couple of early season losses but with the new administration on TAP. He survives That that was a job everyone was assuming would go to urban Meyer well closets interesting to Alabama opened the season against SCC so nick Sabin versus Clay Helton. How does that grab you? Also we've gotten some more information on Missouri apparently Jim mcelwain was in the midst in in in in the thick could things for a while. We don't think that may be Germane any longer. I I must tell you I would i. I'm I'm really surprised. He was even in in the mix six because Mac is told friends that He's thinking getting a coaching and a couple of years anyway but Yeah University Z.. Missouri is obviously beating to it's own drummer but Sarkozy and another name that continues to be linked out there. Coaching Carousel is alive and

Ranking the Best Wide Receivers in College Football This Season

"All let's talk to Tom for Nelly from CBS sports in the athletic you can follow him on Twitter at Tom for Nelly time it's Kristin Adam this evening and if we take a look back on week four of the college football season the most impressive win last weekend was clearly Wisconsin beating Michigan right. yeah I I have a hard time coming up with one that was better I mean that was a situation where Wisconsin had looked really good in its first two games of the season I mean it'd outscored South Florida and central Michigan a hundred and ten to nothing but the problem was it against South Florida central Michigan and we really didn't know how good it was awhile Michigan itself might not be as good as maybe we thought it was going to be before the year at least that's what kinda shaky in the first three weeks that was still Michigan that without the without their in completely dominated on Saturday medicine that I mean that was just it wasn't like a situation where we see with the with the scouts of the past with squeak by one of the better teams the big ten that would that game was never in doubt and it leaves a lot more questions about Michigan and Wisconsin because if you look at the big ten right now I mean I thought going into the season that the west division was going to be wide open but based on what we seem to the first four weeks I'm already ready to write it shake you know Wisconsin's winning that division and it's probably gonna be in Indianapolis putting Ohio state at the to see that I feel like the division to the conference are already settled based on what we've seen so far and on the other side of that Ohio state continues to dominate they look like they're not even missing urban Meyer they're not skipping a beat whatsoever do they look like the team that's most likely going to be representing the big ten in potentially a college football playoff. I I think that if if the big ten is going to play out this year it's it's going to be Ohio state I feel like Wisconsin if they somehow with undefeated and then beat Ohio state in the big ten title game maybe the badges to get it it's just when you look as far as Taylor could level Ohio state is up there with Alabama it's up there with Georgia it's up there with you know Oklahoma cleansing it's a very talented team and the question coming in was with urban Meyer gone with the wind Haskins moving on to the NFL with Ryan day be able to step in and keep things moving in with Justin field step into the offense and you know not have any kind of transition period because well field had been a very highly touted recruit coming out of high school he didn't really play a whole lot while he was still in Georgia and when he did he was typically in special packages re wasn't really being asked to throw the ball much of there were a lot of questions about what he was going to look like in an office with the onus is on it and so far you look fantastic the Ohio state offices with fantastic and more importantly than anything that defense is is phenomenal there are a bunch of NFL draft picks on that Ohio state defense they have a great pass rush defense mensuration August probably going to be somebody who when he leaves scholars and goes in the NFL he will be one of the first five players selected in his draft so when you look at that team on both sides of the ball right now they have the best offense in the big ten and they might have the best defense in the big ten so when you look around it's like it's really hard to think that anybody in that conference is going to be our state but as we've seen in recent years Ohio state always has that one game in the words they just kind of don't show up and they get beat or they get upset so that's gonna be my biggest question with a high state the rest of the season can they avoid that let them give that they always seem to have time for Nelly talk is crisp like an animal Dolly here on ESPN one thousand in the ESPN app you know we covered the Wisconsin part of that came from last weekend but image at in Ann Arbor with Michigan how can they fix is going forward they tried to fix the offense in the off season and clearly it is still broken and now it seems like the deep. this is broken as well. yeah I I think for me the defense right now is the bigger concern because I know that often has not look good but like you said they installed an entirely new offense over the offseason they're not just you know they they're completely trying to change their identity of what they are on offense and through three games they've been dealing with a bunch of injury from the office supply like against army they're missing both their starting tackles they're missing office of wind against Wisconsin and also in the first two games Donovan people Jones their wide receivers probably you know the game breaker on that off at the big play threat he was injured for the first two games as well so we haven't really had a chance to get wrapped together on the field with their first unit offense fully healthy and I think that when you're learning a new offense then you're not getting wraps it's going to show on the field and it has a big say Patterson is also exacerbated the problem because he's have problems adapting any has not played all

Jim Harbaugh on Urban Meyer: 'Controversy Follows Everywhere He's Been'

"He and Jim horrible had some interesting takes on his old is old master I mean his old urban Meyer urban Meyer has dominated this robbery not just in the Jim Harbaugh era going back before Jim Harbaugh urban culture house state for seven years you want every single one of his match up against high against the Michigan including last year's domination was sixty two to thirty nine a blow out over the Michigan Wolverines last season at the horseshoe and Jim Harbaugh ways on Tim telecom these podcast was ask about urban Meyer who's no longer on the sideline he's in the booth for fox but this is what Jim Harbaugh had to say you know what I don't know if I disagree with us know whether he should have said it okay let's hear it or you can be judged on his record and what your record is overall what your record is within your conference and what your record is head to head matchups with with the other teams that you play right now how soon is the only team that has a has a better record than us has a better conference record in us and has the better head to head match up with this into your action when urban Meyer retired yeah he's really matters had a winning record the really the normal record everywhere is bent on also controversy follows in the words all right so that is that's a T. K. show on the athletic podcast networks in Carroll County bay area obviously those horrible from his nine or days and there is a really good reporter was with the mercury news for years I I listen I want a great concession by horrible he's got a winning record he Jacko by the way you know speak you said he beat him four times three of the four double digits right so they pretty much smoking over including last year but it the question is at what the question but the point is Jim Harbaugh's not wrong he's not he's just stating facts controversy has followed urban Meyer wherever he has been in its I don't know if it's if it's relevant because we all know that these things happen and go warning college football so is it worth the coach said in it especially if you might get helped up more these things somewhere down the line saying Jim Harbaugh's done anything but the fact that he's been dominated by urban Meyer it feels like sour grapes feels like we just but I can't beat him so I got a taste of the bad about it you should take the high road but herb is not there anymore herb is not on the sideline at Ohio state it's Ryan day now who hasn't had to replace a quarterback in Blaine Haskins who was phenomenal a for the Buckeyes last you were fifty touchdowns and obviously a first round draft pick in Justin field who came in from Georgia transfer market he's got to take over so it's like he's throwing gas on the fire that November thirtieth matchup between Michigan at the big house this year in Michigan house day it'll be better when it will be lively but he's supposed to win now yeah because of the transition that's going on it I'll state and the fact that he's going to do is fifty year he's got his quarterback for the second year in a row this last year we got she batters it is finally got his quarterback Jim Harbaugh is gonna find a way to you know take them to the college football playoff because all we needed was his quarterback great I didn't happen last year and you get a second year with the same guy it better happen this year he's not a **** I'm not buying the viral he's not on the hot seat that's going to happen but whether or not he's getting the job done at the level in which we thought you might that is obviously open for debate is all real or is it all one needs about championships allegedly at Michigan that they don't exactly it's about beating Ohio state they don't do that to me what is it really about look they haven't won a title since ninety seven missing and I get to think about where they were before Jim Harbaugh came there I wasn't good Brady Hoke rich rod behind and you weren't even like paying attention to me war because this Michigan yeah I work say and this team has a chance to win a national title was in the conversation any surprises in your one yes with ten ten to three ten and three is one ten times three out of the four years that he's been there a year two was eight five you lost a lot of guys on the on defense the NFL going to try to to be fair right yeah not to look I I urban Meyer never has those excuses I dictated doesn't have those issues that's because urban Meyer has controversy following him

Ryan Day: A Courageous Effort to Turn Tragedy into Triumph

"With us if you could ask one question to one coach at any media days be an SEC or any other what what with that question be what's on your mind this week well there's a lot of stuff that I'd like to ask basically you know how the sausage is made with their program but I think they're probably not will it holds the secret I would probably go towards probably Ryan day at at Ohio state that is because of the situation he's stepping into writing most people would is probably say in unison that all outside the top three to five job to get there but a coach yeah I know you're a head coach for three games last year during urban Meyer suspension at the beginning of the year but really they normally knows what to expect in this program so I I would say that would probably be the one coach I would love to talk to you over the next couple weeks try to get a figure out what that program is gonna look like now the urban Meyer's no longer there Greg you have to who comes in as the heroes a freshman great season last year fall short short of when the title because it's Alabama because Trevor Brian it trouble Lawrence is the one everyone's talking about is to a face in pressure in year three to deliver another title considering the scrutiny on him no pressure no but I feel like there it into is pretty laid back I mean this whole why and you know very laid back not not too not too worried about what saying that are associated with the program but I I get the sense isn't is going within this fall in this this spring and and really at times over the course of last fall last fall everyone's not Grady was there ever was kind of praising him and I think he enjoyed that but also wasn't really sure how to make it it is always good kinda like under the radar lifestyle and then he became such a huge star in a phenomenon over the course of the poor the four month season that he was the talk of college football and then sure enough the Heisman Trophy gets ripped away from him in the final week of the season they lose the national championship by four touchdown the few weeks later so I've actually my time with him this spring he's a different guy I mean he's he's he's I wouldn't say use super focused because it's not time yet to be super focused when you're visiting with someone in April but I think it's a sense that he was not happy about how he played down the stretch and how the knock on him right now is a well how did you do against top tier competition he didn't play well against Clemson in play well it's your day didn't play that great against that what you eat include that great get the state and that's kind of been the knock on him going into this fall now right or wrong the guys it credible plan about each what should a won the Heisman last year but he has a lot to prove it I think he's looking forward to having up to you to do that magic Myron Medcalf here Sunday morning on ESPN radio ESPN app Greg McElroy's ESPN college football analyst joining us here the shell pens or performance line as we discuss the conference media days which get underway tomorrow SEC media days course the headlining act all week we we've talked a little bit about the the inevitability of certain sports specifically the NBA up until this year seem to kind of know how it's going to end college football is is is kind of trending that way in a big way last year I felt inevitable Clemson in Alabama how would you compare the inevitability of last year verses this year with college football well it is it like that kind of in every sport the patriots are inevitable the NFL but I feel like there are dynasties in dynasties can work in your favor as a sport in last year I'm not sure anyone would have anticipated that beat down that was that clamp Clinton put on Alabama so I mean it's there's still certain levels of unpredictability but I'm with you back I I'm I'm a little concerned about it because if we're really trying to grow the sport and we want the sports you never feel stagnant then you keep getting the same four teams in the playoffs we keep getting the same championship contenders on an annual basis because those programs recruited such a high level and have done it enter tracking top your quarterback and of coaches that have won championships in the past but it could I think in a year or two if we don't have some chaos it could get real stagnant for people that are casual observers like me I'm watching I don't get mad I know you're going to watch it no matter what I know that people that called the sport thank cover the sport well we're gonna love it and the people in the southeastern part of United States which were football bread and butter they're going to watch it but what about the fan on the west coast it's kinda casually into a really not that much but I think it I think they definitely need to find some teams whether it be in Oregon or at maybe have a team out of the big ten like Nebraska but maybe it is have some new blood that teams that have maybe been a little average by their standards the last handful of years and now all of a sudden they can find their way back into it so there there's optimism about because there's a lot of really good programs that have been doing a great job just know what you're doing as good a job as Clinton Alabama so I do think that the lack of predictability benefit the sport but I also I think the purest in me still want to see the two best teams five or that's got H. last year yeah I'm not sure the the stagnant see if that's a word can be prevented without expanding the plow but we won't go into that we only got a couple minutes left here with Greg but getting getting to that it Bama Clemson Georgia maybe you probably have to throw in Oklahoma Ohio state maybe a Michigan it any other teams out there that you think have

Game of Thrones images too dark? We can help *MILD SPOILERS* (The 3:59, Ep. 554)

"The. Welcome to the three fifty nine. I'm Ben FOX Ruben. I'm David Katz Meyer. There was a lot of complaining at the latest game of thrones episode with the cinematography of the battle winter fell being incredibly dark, and I don't mean like dark as in grim, even though it was a battle. Maybe like the screen was really dark folks complained about having a hard time seeing scenes or artifacts appearing on their screens. I want to take a step back here for a second and ask you a really basic question, which is can dark TV be good TV. Oh, yeah. Absolutely. And there are ways to shoot dark scenes and have them be really visible. And there are ways to make them. Look murky, and it's all the decision cinematographers one of the big things take away. Here is what boils down to his these creative decisions made by the people creating the show on the cemetery gopher fobbing Wagner told wired that you know, a lot of the problem is people don't know how to tune their TV's properly people. Also, unfortunately, watch it on ipads. There's no way to judge do judge. Justice to show like this anyway. So he's basically taking the hyrog- say I did this on purpose. It's your fault change your TV is that true. Do people not know how to tune their TV's properly to something like this because it was really dark. I mean like I had to turn all the lights off in the room while watching it which granted added to the joy of watching it. But at the same time. Yes, it was a darker the normal episode for for any type of TV that you would watch -absolutely. And there's a reason why you don't see that much darkness because it's really hard to do. Well, and it's people complain about it. So with something like this. They took a real creative risk by making this entire massively anticipated eighty five plus minute episode completely at night. And especially kind of using only natural light, you know, for example, they're talking about the Lord of the rings. There's a big battle their homes deep where it's actually really easy to see everything because the way that they shot at the way that they treated it imposed. They brought up a lot of the highlights. You could see everything, you know, taking the shield. Down the stairs. All of this stuff is really visible. There is very little of that kind of nod to visibility and less reality. I guess in this episode of game of thrones, gravity is another good example of this where there's a lot of darkness in that movie. However, I never felt like I was straining to see anything. I would probably argue for me personally watching the battle of winter fell those entirely intentional. They were trying to like add to the chaos. This is an element of cinematography where the battle was. It was hard to see the enemy. It was hard to see what was going on. But anyway, I also want to give people an opportunity to maybe fix some of the issues or maybe a dress some of these issues if they really did have a difficult time seeing some of the stuff and another thing that's totally separate from the darkness is the artifacts is the compression issue. So for example, when you transmit bright scenes, there are a lot easier to compress algorithm knows a lot more better to do with it than if it's dark. So I've read TV's for a long time. And dark is really hard to do from a source standpoints. Oughta be streaming HBO HBO now, maybe by Amazon, maybe watching it on their phones. They have a lot less bandwith to play with. And when you're getting a compressed signal, especially when everybody else is watching it, maybe your SPF throttling. The neighborhood to give you so there's no buffering they'll give you blocks of color. Instead that looked like, you know, not good. That sounds like it's gonna look like trash, right and darkness really brings that out. And I was watching it, you know, with with a bunch of really high end TV's with a pristine stream, you know, a couple of days after and you could still see those artifacts. Is this just a Blu Ray? This isn't the best quality source, and you're going to see these artifacts regardless with streaming. So it's just a matter of how much you see them how much Bob as you. I personally watched it on, you know, calibrated TV at home, and it looked great. So there's a lot of different ways to experience this. But a lot of people didn't have a great experience. Okay. What can you do about? It is there's some stuff that you can do to tune your TV at least a little bit too to improve the viewing experience. If you want to. Watch the soda or I don't know you name the number one, which is turned off the lights because when you're watching the dark ambient light is your worst enemy, and you can't see anything, especially if it's during the day or you have a bunch of lights on the room. Turn it off increases the enjoyment. I tell that evidence so easy. Yeah. The cost you anymore. Right. No matter what you're doing turning off the lights helps when you're watching dark material. The other thing is turned into cinema mode. Shane go into your TV look for cinema or a movie mode flip to that mode. And you're going to get a better picture than any other modes especially for material like this is this an excuse to get an Oleg TV. Or is that kind of a ridiculous question? What better excuses anybody needed by the TV ever? Sure, if you wanna drop two grand to watch the next episode of game of thrones. And see it better, which will probably a lot brighter moving south to king's landing. Hopefully, they get some light down there. They do during the daytime, right, right? We'll see. So you heard it here. First folks, spend two thousand dollars to watch the next episode of game of thrones. That's not the craziest idea I've ever said on this show. Want an excuse nothing better. Absolutely. If you want to read more about the these stories, check them out on CNN. I'm Ben FOX urban Meyer. Thanks for listening.

Wrestler forced to cut off dreadlocks or face disqualification during match

"Done during a match embarrassing a kid like this rack rack. So what does that have to do with this? All right. So the guy didn't exactly do protocol. The referee did not do with the way it's supposed to be done. But he sees a condition which is a violation of the rules and those rules are designed to protect players from having of their hair either come out, which would interfere with the match or present a danger of somebody pulling hair or having an unfair advantage by grabbing someone with their hair and pulling at it. So the referee is really doing what they're supposed to be done. But here's the problem, and you and you mentioned it prior and time the referee who. Who is calling the shots. Here called one of the players by an N word a couple years ago, and he has been tainted and he has been looked at and he has been called every name under the sun racist unfair someone who shouldn't be officiating at the wrestling matches. You know, give the guy a break. Okay. He used the N word. I think he should get fifty lashes for that. But when he's enforcing the rules, just because we're talking about dreadlocks and just because we're talking about a black wrestler. The answer is no I I'm in favor of the referee here. And I am totally against any kind of discrimination in sports if this if this is that all racist. I will stand behind the wrestler, but I don't see it as being racist. At all. Now, couldn't they find a cap anywhere to put the kids hair up and get them out there. Without cutting them off. Let's who is it the fault here. The coach the coach at Buena high school in New Jersey should have this all ready to go to make sure that his wrestlers are, according to the standards, according to the rules, Hindu it. You didn't do it. So, where's this responsibility? Well, hey, the wrestler, Andrew his gotta have responsibility be his coach has the real responsibility and see the referee needs to take some sensitivity training and be real professional at what he does. Hey, Brian can hang on here. I got some more questions for you on the other side. Rick Pitino's back. Eric Reed says type I'm rooting for him to how about urban Meyer's new job at Ohio State University. I thought that when the course I thought that was in April, of course, that was April Fools joke. "Not that all of a sudden, you're aware of these players Bility's. It is that the players selves will be different once they have tasted and have the just make themselves aware that this extraordinary level of play or expect -tations of Blake and be a pain that happens. That's we'll. See what do you think that what Jerry Jones that you binded this different Cowboys team after they beat the saints? Why wouldn't say just after the saints? They had been building trindon in the right way. I try to tell you guys every year. There's going to be teams November and December. They catch a vision. They going to get it together plan with backups or whatever they're going to be out of the excuse business. And they're going to be progressively getting better to try to get into the turn of that's into the tournament. That's the thing. That's different about the NFL than all the other leagues is all you need to do is build to get in. Yes. You'd like to be a one or two Seib. All you need to do is Bill to get in. We have seen teams just barely getting into the playoffs. Create net momentum at the end of the season. Now, it becomes can. They duplicate what they have done even on the road. They've got a couple of wins on the road. Now, they've been the back it up by playing good football on thanksgiving and last week against the saints. This is a good football team. All right. But they're only good when they. They play the game on their terms dominate time possession. They need thirty to thirty four minutes. That's what they had on Thursday night game against the saints. They need to limit their quarterback throws under thirty in. What was seen is? They still are starting to get the explosive plays on the outside. When I've watched Dallas. When I watched a coaches Tate when I look at it the defenses are still guarding almost the same way. But now they're making people pay for Michael Gallup on the outside making some big plays Amari Cooper, making people miss own the shorter passes and turn a nose in the big games. It put big gains. It puts fear in NFL defense is so now the time where defensive do I change?

"And urban Meyer. And even though he had relatively good season winning the big ten of beating Michigan again, I think that Chas them really began to wear on urban Meyer months ago. Why do you think that is? Well, because I think urban Meyer is someone who who needs to be reassured. And I think when he knew he lost the faith of the president of the university. He knew at some point it would come to an end. And I think because Ryan day was already there because the season started progressing fairly well urban Meyer. I think went to gene Smith at some point. And he was also sick. Stephen, I I mean, your point earlier on I taken for those who didn't hear it was quite significant on that. Yeah. I mean without health issues, we would not be having this conversation. But I think that added to the it's like, you're making beef stew. You just keep throwing stuff in there. And I think that was part of the part of the mix. And ultimately, I think he decided it was this was a good time to walk away. Paul. I know we're just speculating here. But if the president indeed, if there was a divide a separation of sorts, do you think it was because urban Meyer have how urban Meyer handled the press conference? A when it was announced that he would be suspended for three games, or do you believe it's because the president felt to some degree? He was an enable in the whole Zac Smith fiasco involving domestic violence against his now ex wife. I think it's the latter. Stephen A think urban Meyer was an enabler. I think he looked the other way because he was too close to Zack Smith, remember, not regurgitate everything.

"Legacy. That's a complicated word it is for any. But the idea of one's legacy is an especially tricky conundrum for those who have lived their lives in the kind of spotlight that always shines on the sideline and Columbus. Ohio legacy isn't about win loss records or championship ring or players in the throes urban Meyer's football resumes in Peckham among the greatest of his generations. Even the greatest of all time. College football playoff. First national champion, the Ohio State buck- on foot legacy legacy is about how remembrance. Well, they remember your championships tattoos. Will they talk about beating Michigan or punching a kid at the gator will? Will they sing the praises of building winters bowling green in Utah or restoring tradition at this one in the horseshoe or will they instead mutter under their breath? A lot of how it all ended. A man who has long preach loyalty remaining two loyal to a longtime colleague accused of domestic violence Meyer said he didn't know those accusations others say he had to the culture is one of accountability be accountable stand up and be a man. So it was the calendar pages. Turn will the lasting images of urban Meyer. Beal hugs and trophies and titles or will his internal replay purgatory via throw away visit to the podium during a midsummer media. We have no idea. What years from the mention of urban Meyer's name will make us think. Neither does he he will try to convince us that he doesn't care, but he does all coaches do all people do in the end. All we leave behind is our legacy for better or for worse. And today he did say his legacy is important to him. But to leave for others to decide for his career. His legacy will include a lot of wins. Eight fifty three win percentage. Third on the all-time list. Among those to have coached at least ten seasons. Here's Paul finebaum. With more on Irvine's legacy in today's f-bomb. Urban Meyer said a lot of things today. But the most interesting thing, he said was it's complicated. What's complicating? He's retiring or so we thought in two thousand nine he retired and came back in two days in two thousand and ten he retired and came back in a year. I don't think urban Meyer is retired. I think he's stepping away from Ohio State because things are complicated there, especially the relationship the relationship between the administration. So will we see urban Meyer? Again, I suspect we will. I'm not sure when I'm not sure where that he left that door open. He left that door wide open today. Thank you, Paul. Yeah. It was just a five weeks ago that he said he plans on coaching next year. Now, he says he's pretty certain he's done with coaching. He collected two national titles in three years in Gainesville. A with the Gators in one and his time with the buckeyes. He joined Nick Sabin is the only other head coach to win national titles with multiple schools. "I remember when the press conference came out announcing his suspension. Urban Meyer came across so badly that a lot of people reflected on it said, it wasn't a great day and some people including myself and others thought he actually should have been going simply because of how he handled that press conference. You can't be a lead of young men giving the impression that such behavior is tolerable. You just can't do it. And that's the impression that urban Meyer head given in some people's eyes, but nobody can question his greatness. And at the end of the day. That's what you're judged upon when you are a coach. You're judged upon your ability to lead young men to the ultimate accomplishments and very very few in the history of college football has done it as well as urban Meyer. You can sit up Dan St. Nick Sabin is the best college football coach of this era. You can legitimately debate. Whether or not he's the best we have ever seen. But what is absolutely positively undeniable? Is that after Nick Sabin, you can't definitively say that there has been a better coach in college football, a more accomplished coach in college football than urban Meyer? And so when we look at that it all comes down to how do you prefer to remember urban Meyer? If they're telling me, I'm listening. You gotta remember I'm working at ESPN. I've communicated for years with people associated with this man urban Meyer once work for ESPN, and I had the pleasure of talking to him. I don't like I handed that press conference. I don't like how he handled the whole Zac Smith situation. I thought it was deplorable. I also think that that's the only thing that I've had to say negatively about him since his days at Florida when it was about thirty one arrest. So we can look at it. A couple of ways we can look at him as an enabler of bad behavior. Oh, we can look at him. As one of the greatest coaches we've ever seen. I have to be honest with you. I prefer to do the ladder. The reason why I prefer to do the ladder is because of the obvious flagrant mistakes that urban Meyer may have made in handling certain situations. He's not the one that abused his wife or now ex wife. He's still married, of course, twenty nine years and counting. God bless him. He's not the one who abuses white. He's not the one who engaged in dare. I say criminal behavior. That's not what urban Meyer did. And certainly might have turned the blonde on deaf editor thinks he should not have. He might have needed to be a bit more on the ball. He certainly didn't need to lie to the media. The way that he did get cold straight busted. But last time I checked in the crime. He wasn't under oath. He doesn't have to tell me the truth. When he gets the lines suck it up and deal with the consequences. But he'd have to tell anybody the truth he committed no crime that was exit. What a thirty one arrests that took place under his watch at Florida that was those players and other folks that wasn't him. Now that doesn't completely absolve him. And I understand that. But it shouldn't also define his character. Our memory of that character, and it shouldn't be confined to those transgressions. Then he indirectly whereas associated with. I prefer to go to direct association route I prefer to go to route of okay, what is it that? We definitively noted today. And here's what we know that urban by did..

"Tonight. Urban Meyer's announcement to retire after the Rose Bowl, both a wow. And and of course after this past season suspension and all those reaction shots, you can see on sidelines basically every game how to remember urban Meyer. That's the question how to consider the three championships the nineteen winning percentage at Ohio State the past year and suspension at many calling for job, which he now really which is on his own volition and what position Ohio State five Delfin going forward with Ryan day. All that. For interpretation for starters today press conference where gene Smith's diluted urban on the field and off the field record and call them and exemplary person. Jack almost starving you how we'll urban Meyer be remembered it will house state. Well, at Ohio State in particular, he'll be remembered as a guy who won them in national championship, cause that's what football fans care about. And I would say nationally. He'll remember it as a guy that won three national championships and two different schools, but you can't ignore the rest of it. Tony. This is a person who over at both stops Florida and Ohio State had one of the worst records in terms of player character, especially when it has to do with alleged domestic abuse incidents, and that has to be part of urban Meyer going forward. Now, it's not like Woody Hayes. Would you Hayes won five national championships twenty? But the first thing everybody thinks, oh, yeah. He's the guy that punched that player on the sideline that won't be it with urban Meyer. It won't be like that. But it will be a situation where there's going to be an addendum to all the wonderful football that he coached because he is a fantastic football coach. But I'm sorry. You can't separate the two, and you should have been blocked stone is that how you sit. Well, I mean, I think that's true. But I think over time a lot of that stuff. We've pushed into the background. I mean. Yeah, we say that about Woody Hayes. But you know, the reason we think about what he hates us because he's a greatest football coach in the history of Ohio State University and all the championships and the Heisman Trophy winners and all that kind of thing. And I think that's the same thing with them with urban Meyer. But yes that is a part of it. I mean, we as people are complicated are are by vials or not always neat and clean. And then this hashtag me too movement and in the stroller, we're having with the mystic violence. There's no question that urban Meyer does not shine very well in this Environment Canada. Yeah. I gotta mostly agree with k b I think, you know, through the history of college football. There's been there's been scandals there's been recruiting violations there's been this and that and and as time goes on we just we look at coaches records, and that's primarily what we're going to remember with urban Meyer. I think we also have to be careful here. He's fifty four years old, even though he has health issues now, and we saw them especially in the Maryland game where there's a big time out in the players and coaches are huddled and he's over there with his hands on his knees. Looking at the ground, you can tell there's something really wrong that he needs to address and we've heard some of those issues he has. But that doesn't mean he won't two three years from now feel like getting back in but for now the three championships, and especially this. He's coach seventeen seasons and he's lost twenty two conference games. He rarely loses. Big ten games SEC games. He wins his conference games. And that's record is remarkable. Of course, as you said, Tim Keller show and mount Rushmore coaches or the best coaches of. The last forty years certainly in that conversation, and I'm wondering how fair it is to have conversations about coaches when you're talking about records when you're talking about off the field records when you're providing he was suspended for three games this season. But other coaches have had their their teams get into trouble legal trouble in the past. And it's not exactly in the first paragraph of their retirement speech, what he page where are you with urban Meyer today?.

"Whether you look back to what happened in August. We're talking about. Now, it's time to go. I'm just asking the time for it is ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous. We're even having this discussion. He is one of the best coaches in all of college football. He is undefeated verse Michigan. The first thing any coach goes so a house, and the first thing they learn is you gotta beat Michigan undefeated when they were ineligible. They went undefeated. He's won a title against by the way, Mick savings vaunted defense team like he is a. Very very good coat. There's no reason to have this. Because who are you gonna get there's nobody out there who are you going to get better than urban right now. There's a reason to have the discussion the leashes a lot longer for off the field issues when everything's going right on the field but Davey, you might know this best. It's not about what if you've done for me and say what have you done for me lately type of league? And right now what was done lately with twenty nine point loss or so what the hands of Perdue. So I get why the rumbling start to happen. Again, makes a great point urban Meyer's probably top three coach and college football in the last decade or two decades. He is phenomenal football coach, so truly Ohio states had count their blessings. But when you have issues like what August that Lee starts to get real short for urban. You can't take the hand of her not. So that's ridiculous. You you told me one loss. And now we're talking about oh, we should fire urban Meyer. What about all the other teams that have had one to loans's? Two one loss. We gotta talk about him leaving. No what I think is. I don't think it's the loss by no means is one loss fire, but Meyer, heck, no, it's the combination of people were saying, well should Ohio State firearm and Meyer prior to the season starting now you couple that with the bad loss. You're just going to pour file fire. Pour gasoline on hot coals. That's all it is. It's not the loss is just the combination that can get people grumbling. But no, you said it, right? Urban Meyer is a piece when it comes to being head football coach. And let's all remember they are seven in one and they control their own destiny as far as making winning the big ten and making it to the college football playoff once again not. So the case with Penn State, if the buckeyes are slipping and Penn State is in freefall they lost two in a row before squeaking out a win at Bloomington last weekend. And when you look at their remaining schedule, it doesn't get any easier with Isla the hotter teams right now in the big ten coming to town this weekend Saturday afternoon. Three thirty on ABC will Penn State. Will they regain their swagger and save their season this weekend? We'll I will continue their push to the big ten championship. I think is the best football team that no one is talking about curt fairness does a phenomenal job in. I with the hawk is. I don't think Penn State regains our swagger, not because of Penn State or anything they have to do. I just think I watched I play last week. They play a great job on offense on defense on special teams. Qatar is not flashy though, they might not sell a ton of tickets. They might not be fun to watch. But they're sounded when ballgames I only have one law for reason people need to stop sleeping and wake up on the is. People need to stop talking about. Penn State is if they're this powerhouse dominant football team, the fact that we have to highly ranked in the preseason. And now we're seeing who they really are what they are. Just a good team. They're not a great team against what James Franklin wants to say. They're definitely not an elite team against what he wants to say. They're just a good team. That's all they are. They're defense is in good. They have a very good quarterback a like mouth standards that the running back position after that. They don't have anybody just have guys..

"Then he can go back and run the team run practices, but will miss the first three games. It seems like this committee first off what an absolute sham. The fact that you have committee with three Ohio State trustees who are helping with the investigation in helping determine urban Meyer's fade. I mean it's just a sham. It's an internal investigation. I want an independent investigation. I don't want people who are fans of Ohio State University football program. I don't want that. I want people who don't care about it. Don't care about Meyer. I would like it to be independent. What is the. Thing, though they still pointed out things that were negative, distinctly negative about urban Meyer and painted him in a way. That kind of says, yeah, this was shady, but his argument is impenetrable. It's on stuff. Maybe I didn't really remember that stuff. And so you can't really fire me so they just penalize him. But in the end it comes down to Ohio State didn't want to ruin their football program or over a moral issue. And I think all of its fans will greet and say, hey, you know what? We'll take the l and we say, hey, we look bad on this one, but let's keep our coach because he didn't actually do anything letter of the law wrong. So it's exactly what you would expect it to paint to play out as and for those who say, oh, you know, you guys are moralizing just because you're not a high state fans leave a program. I would do this about any program about my program about the Gators because it's not really worth it. To me. There's always going to be a football coach there. There's always going to be Saturdays where I can watch that team play. I'd rather not have to do it sharing for a guy who's in charge of these student athletes who's just doing stuff like this. But are you buying the memory stuff because I guarantee you if you picked a random game from two seasons ago and asked urban Meyer today, do you remember every play you call during that game? I promise you. He remembers every single detail of that game. I mean, you can't promise if he's saying he's taking medication. I'm pretty sure they're not taking his word for it. They're looking into the medication that he's taken and seeing some of the side effects even hard for them for this investigative committee to believe that Shelley Mayer never told urban about those texts, but it's a, he said, she said they can't stay on. They can't say firmly, hey, yeah, we know you knew because our wives would have told us, but you're really, this feels like the dog ate the homework type stuff. It's a mom medication, and my wife never told me, but even an investigator would have had to have come to the same conclusion. Okay. We don't believe you, but we can't prove otherwise. Yeah, I don't. I'm not refuting that it's hard to believe in the this is stretch, and I'm looking at the evidence and I'm drawing my own conclusion just based on that can't possibly be the. Case, but there's no smoking gun here. There's no. Really apparent attempt at a cover up here. So now it's just a moral, which is why drives me nuts. When the fans are saying are defending him and saying, hey, we can get a look. Again, there's all we Ohio state's going to try to find the best possible coach to replace them. If they had to replace, you're going to get the best possible, whatever that program can put together the best possible coach to replace him if you were to get rid of him and your Saturdays would be filled with all those same emotions, you just don't have to swallow that. I guess, pride if you will or whatever you wanna call it to say, yeah, I'm cheering for a guy who clearly covered up a situation where it appeared to be domestic abuse, like I get it like, I'm just over it as a fan, and this isn't even somebody that's working in sports just as a fan of sports for three decades. I've just tired of it. My the morals part is important, but it's hot man..

"Lou to earlier. I think we were both operating all this time or the assumption that if urban Meyer new out the two thousand nine arrests than Shirley Ohio State did when they hired him not so much didn't turn up in the background check urban Meyer in telling somebody about it apparently because he thought that he didn't believe in believer, right? That's a continuing threat in here in frankly, a very disturbing one, frankly, for domestic violence victims everywhere. They didn't tell anybody and then like you said, so then he's accused of the same thing much the same thing in two thousand fifteen. And even then or reminder doesn't think to say, hey, you know, we had a similar incident like this back at Florida in. So I was just floored when it said that gene Smith did not learn of the two thousand nine invest arrest into last month until came out publicly in July twenty eighteen. That's a sounding, hey, by the way, how do you think that relationship is right now between June Smith urban Meyer? Think there's a lot of awkwardness all over the place there between board president head coach in a d. I mean, I, you know, and that's honestly, that's a story for another day. It'd be honest, you know, good point through this a couple of other things that you know this thing because it got discussed a lot. We discussed it a lot was urban Meyer not being truthful at big ten media days in Chicago, and there is there is a re a kind of a blow by. Blow by going through this tax MRs urban Meyer and it's from the night before I know nothing about this. He asked, is there a way to find out exactly what his issues were? I know about two thousand nine in princes it was dropped and last week that's it needs some guidance here. So when I speak to media, I'm not wrong later that evening Ryan stamper Ryan stamper his player development guy. Brian step also former u. university of Florida player also was was a was a member of a police force down in Florida sample reported to Meyer that there was no record of Zac Smith being arrested in two thousand fifteen only records of divorce. Meyer acknowledge this stating stamp just confirmed. There was no arrests in two thousand fifteen as the same text chain continued into the morning of July twenty. Fourth gene Smith cautioned. I would be careful do not get to detailed. He went onto vise that whatever coached Meyer says on the subject that big ten media days should be said in his opening state. In end quote and take no more questions on it. Well, jeans, urban Meyer went went off script there because he took more questions on it. He didn't stay on script. He did get very detailed, but in the context of this, you know what this text exchange was..

"urban meyer" Discussed on The Paul Finebaum Show

"If you look at the language of the policy, it really relates to allegations of sexual misconduct involving people either employed by or attending school at Ohio State. And I, I understand accident is employed by Ohio State, but if I'm urban Meyer's legal counsel, I'm really defending against that clause being utilized in this instance because I don't think that's the pen. Of Ohio State sexual misconduct policy, or that's a leash Jessop professor of sports law at Pepperdine university, and let me reiterate that there are other people last couple of days that I've heard speak on those same issues who are also considered experts who see it differently than she does. But if you are an Ohio State fan or urban Meyer supporter, and you are hopeful that that he's gonna stick around as your head coach that has to be encouraging to you what she just said. Because if she is right and the others are wrong than it, it seems like Ohio State might have a hard time finding him in violation of his contract, which I think would be just fine with the university. Now she did go on to say that pretty much every coach has a morals clause in the contract. And if they found him in violation of the morals clause. By failing to do something that was a moral responsibility that could be grounds for termination. Although I think that's a lot fuzzier and certainly a lot more open to a major legal battle at that point. So it's it's another opinion on this. That kind of goes in the face of everything that we've heard up to this point I think is worth everyone else hearing before we get back to this conversation, and let's do that. Now let's go to Eric in Ohio. Yeah. Hello. I was really hoping that Paul was going to be on the show today. Censures informed speaking for him. I'll let you try to answer for him. I wanna focus on. I'm glad you had that lady on there about the title nine, because if you read the plain Tex title, nine, she is absolutely one hundred percent correct on both instances. But when I want to focus on his Paul finebaum comments less than twenty four hours after these allegations came out, remember just allegations for him to sit there and call urban Meyer a fraud. And he didn't just just call him a fraud. He said, I know that for sure. Is is not only degrading in dispersed respectful, it's just appalling. Somebody would take that stance. Eric, I am sitting in Paul's chair today. Actually. I'm not even technically doing that because I'm in Bristol, Connecticut in his chair is in Charlotte, North Carolina, but I do not pretend to speak for Paul, nor would anybody who's who's a fill in host for him. And I would encourage you to call back on Monday and bring that up with Paul yourself. I'm sure he would be happy to address it. And I think a lot of people listening would be happy to hear his answer. And also also on this what is actually urban did what he basically did was if true, he lied to the media. Is that correct? That's correct. And, and that's not a crime is not not a crime in and then only ever even given the thought that maybe he was trying to protect the university that university may have known and did nothing about it. That would be a much larger issue for the university that would be good for urban bad for Ohio State if that's the case, but but we, we don't know for sure that that's not not. We don't. We don't. We don't exactly. That's why five on comics or scowling. And always talking showy, Myers, we know she even related information urban. No, we don't know that either. We don't. I think is I do think Eric, though, if you listen to what urban says about the nature of his relationship with his wife and how close they are and how he confides in her for advice, especially in matters relating to people, it seems highly unlikely that she would not have mentioned it, but that's not one hundred percent that might be like ninety eight..
