"When young and like own a place but like whatever honestly if you can own a place and you want to you fucking by it you live your life yeah I unkind because nothing in here says unkindness yet she's got a pattern of falling for men who are like fun golden retriever types than good on her seems like she's able to hold herself down otherwise yeah yeah in parks and REC when April to get married Andy says I cannot explain how little we thought about this and they're very happy together yeah like they don't need logic and sound reasoning until I be in love we get it we know why this looks bad to you because you love your friend but also consider that there will be no person that's enough for your friend never never know now I I really doubling down on the I think the asker had some trauma that informs needs dealing with yeah because so sorry yeah really so let's think when I say that this perspective is irrational I want to be very clear that what I mean is it's not a lot of evidence to back up these fears I'm not saying that it's ask her is bad or anything like that but but let's go through the things that are like up in the air that we don't know we don't know how they treat each other you don't really know that survive we know they get along because vibe at that movie night we know that she's doing fine we also know that he's like moving in with her yes slowly slowly moving in and we also we don't know how long this has been going on way doesn't seem like there's plans for a wedding bells in the air even if that were the case vic still break up I don't know if you've ever heard of this thing called divorce it's pretty common fifty percents of first marriages is what I read so jen win would you step in and talk to somebody about their relationship because I also do want to talk about like the conversation that this Askar could have with her for right right so when you are asking a friend defend their significant other that is a big deal in that goes for all shades of relationship but we advocate for doing something in reaching out to professional if you if you we always have to say this because you never fucking know reaching out professional if abuse mistreatment manipulation controls all but that's not what we're seeing here what we're seeing here as you think he's kind of a yeah and what do you do in that situation can you say something I don't think I think I don't know it depends so much on how close you are how blunt you can use each other your humor have you ever broached this topic before how honest are you with each other because like you can be honest friends truly close on US firms should still not even bring this up it's like I want they ask her not to say something to their friend but to ask questions about their relationship and their life and just be like hey like oh you can see in Jim Jim Giambi you've seen Giambi for awhile so how's that going are you guys like serious like how serious is is he moving in officially like ask with enthusiasm yeah so you could say he seems to make you happy what's your what's your dynamic like Yeah Yeah I think you've got to do some some friend research here eight it almost feels like you are filling thing in the gaps in your knowledge with the worst of your fears Oh yeah that voice in the back of your head is filling in feeling all the blinks right and you also seem to know her better than us oh him because she the girlfriend was co worker of the asker for a long time they became real friends and then the boyfriend just is fun yeah so yeah I mean I think that man I think that might be is that this Askar just doesn't know and is using their trauma to inform what they think could potentially possible and it's frigging them I think you nailed it another thing you might want to consider is getting to know him a little yeah I mean you don't have to become his best friend you don't have to be close with the significant others of your friends try to become a little more friendly yeah I think that our our ultimate answer on the what's the conversation that you should have is more I think it's time to be in missive and to to an end to the way that they are feeling rather than what you're seeing happen when you have this conversation practice a little in your head because we you wanNA come from a place of interest and not a place of judgment so you don't want to say things like so what's his deal yeah oh is he getting a job what you should say is like oh how's it going with you guys you seem happy yeah where'd you go on your date night like get some you know ask questions that are nice yeah if you have very specific fears because of something that you've experienced or you've seen other people experience from other people's relationships you can talk to your friend about that too but not in the terms of hey ah I'm seeing warning signs I worry about this I think it's okay to talk through your anxieties with your friend and say something like what would you you say I think it could say something like I'm sensitive to this and this and this is why yeah I'm sensitive to women picking up the bill for dudes because I was I was taken advantage of for a few years because it's the it reminds me of my parents reminds me of my dad left my mom penniless things like that like I if and this is going to be Jason how close you are with the real shit right but I think saying like I love you so much all I want is for you to not go through the same thing as blank and I just want to talk to you about this it's not even really about you and your boyfriend but it's about me seeing you from the outside and carrying about you so much and like one you to be happy and like and I know that you know finances are not at the top of your mind or anything like that but with my history with my parents or something like that and I see this like I just want you to be where I think that's a really kind generous way of explaining your concern yes because it's really you're explaining that it really is half or more than half of what's going on in your head right like you're explaining your partner you're not coming you're like leveling with them basically I'm meeting you where you are and here's what I bring to the the perspective here's my perspective it's probably not correct because of this this and this but it might be that's going to be a hard conversation to have with a very close friend like don't do this you're just like kind of like party or whatever well yeah I mean I think sharing that if you feel up for it might be a good idea because I otherwise certain how you could frame this in a way that makes you sympathetic exactly I wouldn't have a conversation unless you were one hundred ten percents sure you could be extremely tient yes if your voice study open minded and I don't think you're there yet and by the way that doesn't make you a bad person it just makes you person yeah you're just a worried anxious balls sake shis friend capitalism yeah absolutely we all have to I'm also trying to think of like the other circumstances in which this would be okay so let me kind of explain so they say is that finances and kids are like two things that were always break up your relationship if you have problems with those like money and kids are like the reason they are often sticking points yeah but what if it was something else lake he's very extroverted and she likes to stay home and you're worried that because you had a boyfriend who partied all the time cheated on you you're worried that she's going to be at home while he's like making out with other girls you know who so that is something that if I said the I just care about you and love you so much and I had this really shitty like experience with this can we talk about that like I wanNA feel like you're safe in European a Oh yeah and I think I would I think I would say that is so sweet and I thank you for looking out for me yeah here's why you don't have to worry or here's here Jack or judgment you were like very very sensitive I'm going to mend that and say that's something you can say after you ask questions Oh yeah that's a good point after you learn more right so the conversation with Jen and Jimmy would be more like what's up guys hey jen I've been seeing Jim be like partying around town can open more open mind yes be very generous here okay give them more benefit of the doubt than you have ever before yeah yeah yeah there's just so much and you said yourself you can't actually make why do I have my head so far the ass of somebody else's relationship yeah yeah Nura you're not the first person to feel this way you will not be the making the studio work especially today because we did not have an easy time new in it and thank you for listening you're welcome for talking.

"An an informal podcast for women with intelligent and literary interests related to Christian doctrine and life esther and I both have a passion to see unbelievers come to the faith and so we hope our material will be used for the furtherance of God's Kingdom we also have have a passion for equipping women with the tools they need to exercise discernment and we desire to see more women understand and love the deep theology that is found in God's word. Unfortunately Ester is not with me today as her joey are finishing dishing up their classes and will be returning home soon. I haven't had a lot of opportunities to talk with her since she's been gone. She's been really busy and I've been really busy with some different projects. <hes> I actually got a new job and I've just been dealing with medical stuff in our family so I was actually considering skipping our second June episode because life is been a little bit overwhelming as you can imagine but I actually have been pondering a lot about my own conduct as a Christian woman and kindness is something that has really been difficult for me me during this season of my life. I'm definitely not an expert on the topic of kindness and my preparation for this episode is simply my own Personal Bible reading on the subject I haven't read any commentaries or consulted any books on the subject so this episode is simply just a feeble reflection on kindness that I hope will bless others. This episode won't be Super Long but I will be sharing a lot of verses on kindness and it's ultimately my hope that scripture will stern us all repentance as we let the word of God instruct us and Godliness. I don't have any other resources to provide other than the scripture versus that I'll be reading but the Bible does have a great deal to say about kindness and I personally need to be reminded of how to behave as a Christian and if I need to be reminded to be kind I can imagine many of our listeners would also benefit as well so before I start I just want to be transparent with my own struggle against unkindness and meanness I in my own home towards my husband and daughters and second towards those in the household of God. I've been wrestling with a situation that happened a few weeks ago and I've been really struggling with anger and a desire to be mean and say mean things about a specific person because I feel very wronged and I've been reflecting a great deal the past couple of weeks on my own. facebook usage and how I let unkindness creep into some of my interactions. There've been times many times when I've been snarky rude shore lacking patients and quick to respond before listening resulting in lack of kindness and understanding being extended to the other person I'm not commonly outright mean but if Asians four twenty nine let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths but only such as is good for building up as fits the occasion that it may give grace to those who here has been weighing on my heart heart so the kind of the Holy Spirit has been directing me in a more holy direction and revealing how I've allowed certain behaviors to go unchecked because others around me were acting in a similar manner. It's really easy to see a mean joke. I mean mean mean comment and automatically laugh or joining an it is so easy to click the left button on facebook. When we think someone is being stupid or we disagree? These types of things can actually be really mean and if you've ever been on the receiving end you should know that it hurts it is much easier to extend kindness when you're face face to face with someone but not always the temptation to snap at the checkout clerk at the grocery store because she's being slow or the temptation to scoff when someone makes a comment about how many children we have or about our parenting or about how we do do not have children and they are making comments to us or at us that are hurtful and mean. We don't always want to offer kind response. When someone is rude to us we normally want to be angry or irritated or rude back and in some cases being marriage to someone who is rude is often encouraged even in Christian circles we feel justified in our behavior because we have felt wronged and we need to pause and think before we speak we need to have kindness on our lips and love in our hearts for our neighbors? Even when it's it's difficult or we don't think they deserve it so I'm definitely not saying Oh look at me. I have killed this little devil of unkindness in me because I am so far from being a master of kindness to other people people I am saying that I do sympathize with others who also really struggle with unkindness and who see the goodness of the Lord's commands and desire to be shaped by his word I personally rest in the Gospel for my assurance knowing that the Lord has done it all that I'm secure in the Lord and and I also recognize that I'm a saint who still sins we as Christian women who are justified must ask the practical question. How are we to live and our Lord instructs us to be kind so kindness is a fruit of the spirit that is an out flowing characteristic that grows out of love if we claim to be loving than we should also be kind because the two are connected Galatian five twenty two through twenty six says but the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness goodness faithfulness gentleness? <unk> self control against such things there is no law and those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the spirit let us also keep in step with the spirit let us not become conceited provoking one another envying one another other another verse Corinthians Thirteen four through seven which is which is considered the famous love chapter tells us that love is patient and kind love does not envy or boast it is not arrogant or rude it does not insist on its own way it is not irritable resentful. It does not rejoice it wrongdoing but rejoices with truth love bears all things believes all things hopes all things endures all things both these verses make mention of kindness but they also show us other characteristics that are fitting for the believer. The krantz passage is actually really convicting for me. Personally I think when we normally read this passage we romanticize it but we don't ever really compare ourselves to it. We think Oh what a beautiful verse love is so amazing you hear people reading adult weddings and promising to be these things and we always fall so very short. I think it's important that we need to read that verse and ask the Question Am I can see. Do I insist on my own way. Am I e rtable resentful. Many of these things I wrestle with daily and yet I also see the the kindness of the Lord and revealing my weakness so that I can boast in Christ. I see my need for my savior and I'm continually turning away from my son with the help of the Holy Spirit. I think it's really important that we define kindness. Kindness is a noun it is the quality of being friendly generous or considerate. Some synonyms are kindly nece kindheartedness warm heartedness tender heartedness goodwill affection warmth gentleness tenderness concern care consideration consideration helpfulness thoughtfulness unselfishness altruism compassion sympathy understanding benevolence friendliness neighborliness hospitality generosity patience tolerance since charitableness graciousness humaneness mercifulness decency and that's a lot of synonyms but I do think it gives you a really good picture of what kindness is and it can be so many different things I mean it it is not harsh or cruel or rude or snarky. It is not an loving I mean the sentiment synonyms really give you a good idea of all the ways in which kindness can take jake form and so some scriptures that command kindness include titus two four through five it says in so train the young women to love their husbands and children to be self controlled pure working at home kind and submissive to their own husbands that the word of God may not be reviled Hebrews thirteen to says do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for thereby some have entertained angels unawares. Mica six eight says he has told you oh man what. This good and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness into walk humbly with your God Colossians two twelve hundred fifteen says put on then as God's Chosen Ones Holy and beloved compassionate hearts kindness humility meekness impatience bearing with one another and if one has a complaint against another forgiving each other as the Lord has forgiven you so so you also must forgive and and above all these put on love which binds everything together in perfect harmony and let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts to which indeed you were called in one body and be thankful kindness something that we put on according to Colossians it is something we are trained in according to titus it is something that is good. According to Mica it is something that we should not neglect. According to Hebrews kindness is something that we cultivate in our lives through the instruction section of the word of God and the working of the Holy Spirit and US practically we need to ask what kindness looks like so Matthew Twenty five thirty four through thirty six says then the king will say to those on his right come you who are we're blessed by my father inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world for I was hungry and you gave me food. I was thirsty and you gave me drink. I was a stranger and you welcomed me. I was naked and you clothed me. I was sick and you visited me. I was in prison prison and you came to me. Ax Twenty eight to says the native people showed US unusual kindness for the kindle the fire and welcomed us all because it begun it had begun to rain and was cold. I Timothy Five ten says and having a reputation station for good works if she has brought up children has shown hospitality as washed the feet of the saints has cared for the afflicted and has devoted herself to every good work Romans Twelve fifteen says rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn these versus show us that kindness looks like weeping with those who weep and morning with those who mourn and proper season kindnesses doing good when you see a need you care for people you extend what you have generously and with a heart of love when someone is harsh you respond with goodness and gentleness list it is showing hospitality caring for needs devoting ourselves to good works. It looks like warming afire and showing compassion kindness can be many things because kindness flows out of love for our neighbor and love for God when we are seeking to love our neighbor kindness Dennis will be present. The wisdom of kindness can also be found in many of the proverbs a few included proverbs eleven seventeen which says a man who is kind benefits himself but a cruel man hurts himself. We see in this first. That kindness is a sensible thing that can benefit us all as well as others. Those who are rude harsh unloving uncaring and uncaring hurt themselves both spiritually and socially as people do not want to be around someone who is cruel proverbs thirty one twenty six says she opens her mouth with wisdom and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue proverbs thirty one is filled with so much wisdom and how to live a godly life and we all know that we fail to be that quote proverbs thirty one woman however just because we fail to meet the expectation of wise living does not mean that we cannot learn from the passage or apply to our lives. Kindness is something that we teach to others. This shows us that wise women share the instruction of scripture with others others they teach others.

Have you ever heard of a group of ferrets called a business of ferrets or a collection of jellyfish referred to as a smack of jellyfish? What about shrewdness of apes? We use collective nouns also known as nouns of assemblage to describe all sorts of groups hosts of angels bands of men and shocks of corn. Are commonly heard these days, but the nouns associated with particular groupings of animals can get weird fast because words in their uses are invented by people when we see a bunch of specific construction, you can bet on it being the result of a language fad and sure enough five hundred years ago, nouns of semblage were all the rage. We spoke via Email with Magdalen Jacobs a PHD candidate in the Vanderbilt University department of hearing and speech sciences. She said these are generally terms that came about from upper class hunting culture in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. They're called terms of Venneri, and they're linked to north. And culture and influence into the idea of proper hunting language over one hundred and sixty terms of Venneri are listed in book of Saint Albans, a wildly popular at the time manners guide published in fourteen eighty six the coached the medieval gentlemen through having conversations about hunting falconry fishing sports in heraldry without embarrassing himself at dinner parties. These collective nouns are found in a chapter entitled the companies of beasts and fowls though, some of the terms referred to people rather than animals a bit of a joke. The book Saint Alban's not only described a sleuth of bears and a skulk of FOX's, but also linked women to geese in the collective consciousness by labeling collections of both Gakhal's. According to Jacobs, this is partially because there is a direct linguistic link from the word gaggle to the middle English word for cackle, a collection of wives was labeled and impatience a group of writers on the other hand was called a worship if language tells us how to think about the world we conceive fifteenth. Century European gentleman's social priorities, though. Of course because you can't keep the kids for making up slaying. Once the construction was introduced in the book of Saint Albans, people started coining their own nouns of semblage. Although a lot of these terms slipped into obscurity in the sixteenth century like much of the lingo, we generate on a continual basis. Some of them were adopted into common speech these days. We don't often have occasion to talk about a sneer of butlers or misbelief of portrait painters, but whoever came up with a staff of employee's a congregation of churchgoers or a panel of judges should congratulate themselves on a job well done linguistically. Speaking. A much of the time that correct term for a group of anything. Let us know our collective views on the disposition of whatever we're naming some of the most evocative terms of veteran can be found in birds the book of Saint Albans lists and unkindness of ravens and a murder of crows, definitely creepy negatives. But a charm finches adorable, whoever I referred to a college of cardinals was probably suggesting they thought the group of little red birds looked like a meeting of academics. But why a group of storks is called a mustering is a little less clear. See us Lewis coined the term parliament of als in children's book series, the chronicles of narnia a nod to chaucer's poem, a parliament of fowls. The term is now recognized in dictionaries is being the correct term for a group of AL's. There are meanwhile, few nouns of assemblage for insects mentioned in the book of Saint Albans, we still refer to a swarm of bees which was recorded in the book, but we don't talk as much about a business of flies or a flock of lice. If you've ever heard of a kindle of kittens that comes in the middle English word kindling, which meant to give birth or produce a litter which was originally used only for puppies. But is now commonly used for all kinds baby animals, a group of adult cats might be a glaring or a pounce, but crowd of feral cats is a distraction anyone concerned about the decline of migrating songbirds can understand why that might be. Dogs, which were as much a man's best friend in the middle ages. As today got a lot of play in the book of Saint Albans, hunting hounds alone got several group titles. A cry a mute a pack and a kennel. Some of the most inventive terms of entry are plied to wild animals Jacobs said because they began as hunting terms, the original names from the book of Saint Albans reflected a specific societal disposition towards the animal being hunted. A pride of lions is a good example others that came later such as a wisdom of wombats may be inaccurate. As wombats are rather solitary and don't spend time in groups, others likely referred to qualities of the animals themselves, a business affairs came from a business affair, it's which makes more sense than business. If you've spent any time at all watching ferrets. These days folks continue to make up new nouns of assemblage and bring back old ones. Thus we can talk about April of hedgehogs an obstinacy of buffalo a bloat of hippos and a game of Wales regardless of whether we're planning on hunting them or not. "My love is the beginning of all things everything. Good. And I want you to know this love, I want you to know me. I am jealous for you. You see I want my love to consume you. I don't want anything else to get in the way, not fear. Not doubt. How can you second? Guess love. How can you second? Guess me. There is nothing else you need more than me. My love heals all your wounds. My love brings hope to the brokenhearted. My love hates fear and destroys it. When love is here. There is no room for anything else. There's no room for fear. There is no room for hate. There's no room for unkindness. There's no room for evil. There's no room for selfishness, or contempt or greed or vanity or sloth or deceit for with my love, you run to me and into my heart with my love flowing through you overwhelming, you and -habitating you you are not who you were before you are claiming your true identity. The one I have always known and loved and seen. You are not there, you you have known before you were new version of you because the false one the old man has been taken off. And the new self is born in my. Love you begin. Again, you were taking your place as the air of God. Asked me for what you need share with me, your heart's desires. Tell me all your hopes. All your thoughts. All your worries all your dreams, I want you to go deeper into my love run run run run deeper into my love for you. It is so good. It is all you want. It is all you need it here waiting for you. I am here. Weighty for you. I love you. I adore you. Come home. Come home to love. Come home to me..

"It was very difficult to get a picture of her if you know what I mean, if someone says to you, we're gonna go in a room for three hours and I'm not gonna be myself at the end of that three hours. What do you think about who you met. You know, it's difficult. So I don't really know the question. Everybody wanted me to answer, especially even go bear aggressively on the wanted to know if I heard Trump say the n. word I never did. I don't know if he ever did. It doesn't seem like part of his culture, but what do I know? And I don't know what more evidence you need Trump's racism unkindness incompetence and capriciousness than what we have without any inside sources without anything anonymous without anything under handed. It seems like his competence is broadcast. I, I don't know. I don't wanna be a position of the fending President Trump because he he seems crass and rude and a bully to me. But I can't recall ever hearing him say something or do something that I thought was overtly racist and. I've seen people I've seen. I've seen that word you so many times to describe people who are simply conservative that I'm sensitive to that issue. You should be. You should be very sensitive to that issue. And I have that same feeling all the time. I cannot tell you word for word the conversation that I heard you because I know I know from experience because I keep a journal, then my memory is not accurate. I know the no one's eyewitness testimony is accurate, but I can tell you it's absolutely true. I heard him make jokes referring to little John the rapper as an uncle, Tom, that was very, very unpleasant and absolute best tone deaf, and worst MRs and racist. I heard him have an attitude toward Dennis Rodman with sex was once again at best old fashioned and uncomfortable. And that's being phenomenally kind and it worse outright racist. He. Was seen with his father in apartment buildings, discriminating against people because of their race that was proven in court, I believe. And I, that some of the things he said about shit all countries and some of the things he said during his immigration talks were to my mind, judging somebody not by who they were, but by how they were born then have you have you have you been diminish it whole countries? I have. I, I've been to shadow for in India, which is the worst slum of the untouchables tourists never go. I was there covered with flies up to my ankles Imon shit. I have been why because I'm crazy to. I have been to. We'll Chow in in China about hundred quick out of Beijing, which is at the time I was there as far as I could tell the worst thing you're going to see communism..

"Welcome to lend me your ears. I'm is it Butler today we're going to be talking about measure for measure. It's a play about the law and about why we have laws and how we should go about using the law to make people more virtuous. But it's also about power and about sex and its most famous for seeing that feels chillingly relevant to us. Today. There's this woman is a ballot and her brother Claudio is condemned to die. So she's pleading for his life and the guy she's pleading with Angelo. He's running the joint. It's up to him whether Claudio lives or dies. Angelo has all the power in this situation, and here's how he responds to her request for clemency. Redeem brother by yielding up vibe, ATI to my will or else he must not only die the death, but by unkindness shall his death draw out to lingering sufferance the choices Isabella's have sex with Angelo, or her brother will be tortured to death. Measure for measure is a play. That's asking two very different questions. Ones were still struggling with today. How should the law work and what do we do about powerful men and their desire to use that power for sexual gratification? Act one, we must not make a scarecrow of the law. Measure for measure is often called a problem play. Now, that's a term that comes from the nineteenth century from a literary critic named Frederick boas and in its original usage. It meant a play that was neither straightforwardly comic nor tragic problem plays shift between tones sometimes quite wildly and the use this approach to explore social problems and moral dilemmas. And one thing these plays have in common is that every thread you tug on his tied to a paradox. They pose a problem and instead of coming anywhere close to solving him, they dive into it revealing more and more problems lurking inside. Measure for measure can be a bewildering play to read or talk about every time you think you've wrapped your head around a clear answer to how the law should work or what we can do about powerful sexually coercive. Men that answer turns to ask, it's a play. That's technically comedy. It tells the story ends in four couples getting married, but the journey takes to get there can't help disturb and provoke us. That journey goes like this..
