"Seen them perform live Then they broke up and then they took a sabbatical. They came back started. Touring again still. Didn't get to go see them And a year and a half two years ago they announced they were going to do a hotel california tour and linden i said. Hey let's get tickets and we did and the show ended up getting because of all the Pandemic and the tickets that have been sitting there in my ticketmaster q. Finally came on tuesday. September twenty first at american airlines center in dallas texas. So i'm going to talk about the show a little bit. So if you don't care about the live show. You don't care about the eagles Thank you for downloading this one. You can skip it and move on to the next one. The premise is that they were going to do hotel hotel california in its entirety. And we we got there and plenty of time because american airlines had said that they would require proof vaccination or a negative cova test for admittance into the venue So i had both linden. I shot records As we were walking into the building. I there was somebody asking and when i reached for him he weighed me in so i think if someone had just had a piece of paper in their wallet. They would waived him. But oh what am i gonna you know i. I'm doing the right thing. mask were encouraged. It's everywhere there were signs. They asked everyone to keep their mask on. I would say ninety five to ninety eight percent of the people in the audience kept their mask on even while they were in their seats It was good to see you know. Saw few people wandered around a couple of guys that look like they can't be bothered wearing a mask and a couple of Middle aged women mostly. I think that were not Wearing a mask but overall most people had him on We got to into the arena and we sat down and our seats were lower level. straight to the kind of to the. If you're facing the stage we were Stage left i guess and There's a curtain on the stage and they said about seven fifty seven forty five. They said the show will saw promptly at eight. Oh five and then round seven fifty. Five eight o'clock the show will start promptly at eight. Oh five and so were there. Nato five the lights dim and the sky dressed kind of is a in a suit Walked across stage and went to i guess stage left and picked up the hotel. California vinyl showed the album to the audience. Took the album out blue on it. The way you used to do. Put it on a turntable foot. The arm and as you said it down the curtain started rising up and you started hearing the opening chords of hotel california We had hotel california new kid in town life in the fast line wasted time which is one of my favorite favorite Eagle songs They had a the new texas symphony orchestra Playing on it. So they had this whole string orchestra. Everyone was massed Then at the end of that This stages dark and a tall Woman that was in like a black fancy dress with a see through Skirt the skirt when all the way down to her Like our ankles. But it was a see-through and she walked all the way across the stage took the album flipped it over foot. The arm on again and then the orchestra started playing again We heard wasted time again. The reprise victim of love pretty maids all in a row. Try and love again. And then last resort The don henley then came out. You know from he. He took turns either being the drum and singing or being in the front playing itar He thanked us all for being there. he said it was there. Were so happy to do this. And he said we're gonna go take a fifteen minute break and come back and play every song we know And then a little weird is when they came back. They had all changed clothes like they had dressed up. They were in suits for hotel california and then when they started playing the other they were more in jeans. And like you know just flannel shirts or just regular casual garb. They opened with the seconds. I guess the second set Seven bridges road then did take it. Easy one of these nights take to limit lying eyes which you woman. And then joe walston in the city One of the really interesting things is with. Glenn fry no longer with us. They needed someone. And you know. Randomize does not tour with eagles anymore. They needed someone to handle the high vocals so they did that in two ways. One glenn fries son deacon fry toured and he looks just like his father He has his hair down to his shoulders mustache. He looks like he could have been a member of the eagles in the seventies his voice is very close to his dad and the other Really really great thing to see. Was vince gill Doing some of the songs had a wonderful. I just love in skills voice and he was seeing it. So that was great After in the city did. I can't tell you why peaceful easy feeling tequila sunrise. The shoes Then lifespan good already. Gone heartache tonight. And then they went off. Stage came back Three song encore rocky mountain way. Once again joe walsh desperado. With the strings brought back and then they ended with best of my love. Absolutely amazing show A was great. They were filled filled with so much harmony. I i loved hearing them singing Not a lot of talk between songs but Don henley did mention that At one point there was the university of university texas. at arlington's acapella choir was singing background and he made the joke and their grandparents are big fans of ours He talked about the twenty years ago. The eagles was the first band that played at the american airlines center. When it opened here in dallas So linen i had a great time. the show lasted about three hours. From when you figure including you know running clock so even when they took the break between hotel california and the others keeping the clock running It was a school night. So i am a little bit tired today but overall To here last resort and wasted time formed live with an orchestra is something i never would have thought i'd seen and it definitely checks off a list to me of of a band that i loved and i'm now glad i got to see so if you've gone and seen a ban that you love and you it's been a while like you've always wanted to see them. Let me know. reach out to me. Set lesson bruce. Gmail.com led to have on the show. And you share your story but for now I'm going to take it to the limit. "Got my living expenses of over nine months. Plus, I've got fully investing into my retirement account through work. I am. Um I've got a good chunk of money set aside or my sons, you know that story of them? The crossroad is my my son, who is a senior this year for the longest time, I thought he was going to be going into the military. So you know, I pulled back a little bit on what I was putting into his college account. After Kobe yet really there were two things that I did. We actually took advantage about time and I had him go through your total money Makeover book, But I also had to do your 13 week High school course. And in doing that, it was really and he ended up actually getting a little side job. And it's It's interesting. He became really kind of Ah, Davor and disciple. So here's my problem work. We're out of work. He he now knows that he doesn't want to go the cold ground, which is going to military. I'm trying to figure out whether to go the juke around. Financial focus or to go before your route at a local state college. I just don't know how much I should pay you. That's that's kind of where I'm at right now in that college decision, Okay? Hey, don't have the money, though. No, absolutely. How would he have got probably All that because I know you. You are a opportunity about not taking out loved us is my understanding. Yeah, As much as we can know, Perry period under no circumstances do we take a statement? Ludicrous. You said, fully funding your retirement work. What percentage of your income household income is going into retirement. 15% okay? And what's your household income? Hundreds. North 160 on then medical sales so good you could do a little bit higher. Now that I'm living on my base and I usually invest my my How much money is in the air? How much money set aside for the three boys and what ages are the other two? 90 total 30 each and each of the accounts my oldest 17 middle 15, Youngest is 12. Okay, so it sounds like this kid's got 30 to $50,000. You can get his hands on from you out of that account. And then you're gonna use your incredible income to beef up the other two before they get to college. That's what I've got, and I'm a single income family. So it's like that The other thing is my wife. Going the direction of getting a side jobs. We'll have to travel a lot. So it's until this point. She stayed home with the kids. It was just trying to figure out Not that you make enough money to pull this off. You make enough money. Pull us off. So here's what we're going to be alright? We all we're doing is what you do with medical sales. We're just going to set some goals and put some numbers to him and create a budget. Okay, so he wants to get a four year degree and he wants to study. What Business and you're in college. You're in Dallas, Texas. So you have you have University of Texas Dallas campus available, right? Yep. And you have What else in Dallas available with a variety of different state schools around out there? I mean, we're looking at those. We're also looking at. You know, Arkansas o year you There's no point in looking at those. You don't have the money. You don't have the money for a four year out of state tuition. We have 50,000 bucks. And your cash flow in the rest out of 160 income. You can't afford to sign up for a $260,000 arrangement. Run a budget out on you'll see what I'm talking about. So I don't know that. That's why I need to talk about that saying when you when you were in, you know what to do numbers, I mean, just sit down and When what you haven't done is you haven't taken the concept of out of state and actually put math to it yet. When you do, you'll puke. You'll just throw up in the floor. Yeah, and that's and that's the that's where we're at right now. So he he's not going out of state. He's going in state, so he's going to be easy to go hook them horns or being Aggie. And he may live at home the first year or two. And university Texas Dallas. That's not juco. That's four year. Yeah, but it didn't go that route. If you want to go in cheaper, you could go to a community college for two years and make sure that those particular Ah credits transfer But what a University of Texas I Ah ah, An Aggie degree and am degree are fine universities. Employable anywhere in the world with a business degree from either one of them. And they're 1/4 of the cost of your going across the state line and having what might even be a lesser education. 1/4 My guess is your annual tuition if he moved all the way to Austin. And lived on campus, not counting little room and bored. I'm guessing, but I would say University, Texas probably 12, maybe 13 grand a year. Situation. Tuition alone versus 25 Authority got exactly one because you want to know if your University of Tennessee, the other UT, you could come up here and it's a great business degree is Foreman came from, But you're going to pay for X for it because it's out of state, and it's not worth paying that. Yeah. There's one you didn't get anything except across the state line in a different color Orange That's all you got. And so you know, what we're doing here is we're trying to pay for education at a good education at a good value. And so I think he's at home the first year, maybe two. At Dallas, and he's going to university, Texas Dallas I assume they haven't extension campus there. Ever since the beginning that profit I be shocked if they don't but Something like that. Ah, And then or I don't care if you send him to Austin, But you're just you're picking up room and board for a freshman. And you don't get anything there, but room and board. It does not increase the quality of the education. Living in a dorm is somewhat like living in a prison. You know what? It's not. It's not. It's nothing glamorous about it. So you know you're not getting the whole thing is what is the important ingredient in these dollars and cents discussions? It is the tuition. To the University for the education. The other all the other money. Doesn't matter. It doesn't do anything for his future. Whether you live on campus off campus with you on the meal plan, not on the meal plan with your in the dorm. All that stuff is just crap. It has nothing to do with feeding your brain. It just feeds your body and keep your head from getting wet. Your brain is what we're trying to grow. That's what the degree is for me. This is where we've lost. And you're you're doing really smart here by asking about this, Jack, But people in America this is where we've lost our way on education. Is we spend more on the college experience than we do on the education. Did you hear me say that? So hold on, Jack. I'm going to send your fabulous young man. A copy of Anthony O'Neill's book number one bestseller, Debt Free degrees. My gift. I'm honored to have him. Listener now. And I think he's going to do great things. "We got for you there. Speaking of Texas, Tech sports. So we'd trying to talk about the news views and issues of the region that matter. Our friends Scott Braddock, let me take a little side sidetrack here are prince Scott Braddock is not going to be with us cannot deliver Braddock on Texas today because he has kidney stone in a hope is just singular not plural. A kidney stone may be stones. And is there in a in a hospital all our best to Scott Braddock? But his segment last week was in flake, oh in so we're going to replay that for you coming up a Scott Braddock and then about thirty minutes from now you'll hear from. Lubbock west Texas, congressman Jody Errington will get into the things that matter to the listening audience, but this is where I want to begin the speaking of Texas Tech athletics. Folks, if I had been given a big been brew for every time, I've heard the name Mike Leach today in connection to Texas Tech and the potential ousting of. Potential to probable ousting of cliff Kingsbury. I wouldn't be behind this microphone. I'd be face down in a bar ditch somewhere not raving on with you. Here's what we know. Now. My best in the worst the weekend. And I'm going to discontinue into best going through Monday night. We are about an hour in two hours and ten minutes away from kickoff of Pat, Mahomes and. The LA Rams in. I'm going go ahead and just count that as my best of the weekend. The twins my twin boys. They're flag football team law. So I'm gonna go and say my best of the weekend is going to be the Kansas City. LA Rams game tonight. But the worst the weekend Baath for whatever that cluster was in Manhattan, Kansas in I think a lot of you would be listening with your own. Abol stripper wherever wherever your right now. You would agree that what happened in Manhattan Kansas against Kansas state on Saturday was the worst twenty six. Look, I get it. I I'm on the politics for cliff Kingsbury because we're clip took up in where we were at that time was an absolute cluster. Fifty yard Lon. Tobby Ma biggers Tom Tupper Bill. A big problem. I think UT university Texas Oklahoma university you win one of those two games with Alan Bowman edge quarterback. But I don't know what you say about what happened in Kansas Kansas state in Manhattan on Saturday. I consider myself to be a friend in hope that he would say the same a friend of Mike Leach, he's been on this program. I like Mike Leach a lot call me a liter call me whenever you may. I think he's a genius. And we've had other people on the program who said as much a Sam Gwynne. Come at Sam Gwynne if you will Sam win wrote empire the summer moon perfect pass, and is is a scholar an academic, Anna gentleman. But has a lot of good to say about Mike Leach? Now, he said what he said about his boss, quote, unquote. I get that whole argument. But I will tell you that I've heard Mike Leach is name continuously over the course of the day. Now, am I going to make this issue into a into a region gate issue? Now. Now. I don't think I will. But I am telling you that I hear Mike Leach is name more than I would've Sumed. I would have heard Mike Leach is name. For a potential replacement for cliff Kingsbury. Now, here's where we stand right now. If Kingsbury were off it would be about five million dollars twenty four and five million dollars in that doesn't include buying out his assistance, but with a base of about four million dollars, and then four point one million dollars in twenty twenty you buy out the difference in that's four million dollars for cliff Kingsbury, and I've been absolutely astonished over the course of the day. Former foes of Mike Leach, the Leech your crowd, and, you know, Minnesota pejorative against a lot of people have all of a sudden mellowed in. I think that tends to mellow whenever he's got his team in a position to be in the college football playoffs. And some are beginning to warm up to him. Now why? We've had a lot of conversation on this program about hotel. Hotel revenue taxes in what that kids. What that could mean? Now. Here's what we do know in this is based upon the Lubbock avalanche journal last weekend..

"So good afternoon us tin. Is it is I can't figure out why any of you wanna hear podcast about the US supreme court? That's insane. Don't you have anything better to do think you so much for coming out? Welcome to amicus. This is slates podcast about the supreme court and the law and the rule of law. And we're live today here in Austin, Texas. This is slate day at trip fest, and we're just delighted that you're listening in at home, and we're delighted to what tacitly hip looking crowd. We have here in Austin. I, I always think of my listeners as being much nerdier than this thrilling. And Mike well, and and seeing. So I am joining me today is this really extrordinary roster? I couldn't have wished up a better list of experts to talk about the supreme court both last term next term and a little something we call the Brett Cavanaugh hearings. And so together we're going to try to pick through whatever debris of last week we can sort through and what's gonna come next and what it means for the court and in fact for the country. And so I'm thrilled to introduce joining me here on stage Angela, watching willing who is the dean of Boston University law school and scholar in race and gender, and particularly inequality and civil rights. Welcome. Kids. Who left is Christina Rodriguez. She teaches at Yale Law School. She served as a deputy assistant attorney general at AOL see, and she is, I guess we've got a lot of Texas natives here. In fact, I think I'm below not Texas native, but San Antonio right there you go. On my far right of friend of this podcast, Steve Ladda key teaches at university Texas with a focus on federal jurisdiction con law national. He's a national security analyst, an supreme court analyst at CNN, and he's a mad blood or hope you read him constantly for just security and law fair St.. Welco. On my immediate rate atom wait, he's director of the center for study of the administrative state at George Mason University, the Antonin Scalia school of law, and he's a research fellow at the Hoover Institution, and you may remember him from his testimony at the Brett Cavanaugh hearing, so welcome at them. So it gets my first question will start with the events of this best Thursday. And my first question is, what. Whoa. That I was in the room in Dirksen. It was very small room doesn't come across that small on TV and Adam. Do you might starting and just telling us, you know, you testified in favor of Kevin, I know that you really are are think this might have gone off the rails, and I'd love to hear you start with the understanding that it is incredibly generous of you to be here on this panel told me this was a federal society. I am. I testified on the last day of the original hearings at that point. Even the protesters had gotten bored, but I will favor of judge Cavin on his record on constitutional law last week. I'm happy to say I spent the week running conferences at my program at the law school, and so I didn't actually get to see most of it in real time. I've been playing catchup ever since. I do think that things went off the rail just a backup really quickly when the anonymous allegations came out against Cavanaugh. I thought I, I was against continuing the hearing process when Dr Ford's name came out. I said, no, there does need to be a hearing on this. I have been very worried about the extension of investigation process beyond the hearings I, I'm worried that it sets a precedent that all future supreme court hearings. When you sit for your seventh nomination, everybody's going to sit through the hearings wondering, well, when is the real action start afterwards. And so I wrote about this in the weekly standard. I think that the best thing the Senate could have done with structure process that encourages everybody to get all the information out as early as possible before the FBI investigation and the hearings..
