"There's a power and balance. We have within our sport code of conduct that relationships between coaches and athletes are prohibited because of that power imbalance. And so, when we think about the policies that we implement again, this is focused on a dull tes within the membership of fifty different sports across fifty different states. It's not just Pacific to one facility or one location. We're talking about international travel. We're talking about kids on a soccer field and gymnastics acidity in. So we've really approach it from reasonable policies. To prohibit and limit certain one on one interactions. When I wanna share with parents is I think that it's important for parents to know is that parents are not required to give consent to a one on one interaction that is a choice of a parent we wanted to include parents in the decision making office, because we received really valuable feedback from them. And if a parent does permit a time specific one on one interaction because we do not allow for a blanket consent to specifically address the concerns about grooming that we know about if a parent does permit that talk to your child. See how the one on one went get to know the signs and symptoms of abuse, which we've created through apparent tool kit continue that open communication with your child and put that adult on notice that, you know, about sexual abuse prevention you've taken online training, and then you were going to hold them accountable, so that we're, we're part of this larger community approach so Syra returned back to you because. You or a former gymnast, who has experienced this abuse firsthand is what Katy Hannah just said recommending, you know, if there's that one time consent for parents to circle back and say, how did it go? I mean is that would would that be a meaningful way to intercede in the event of any even suspected abuse? You know, I think these are all very textbook answers, and they sound they sound really nice, but, but we are missing sort of the issue at large here, which is we're talking about the, the United States Olympic committee. That is charged with protecting our nation's most capable talented athletes who are representing our country who are a part of an organization that is riddled with the cancer of sexual abuse. And so this is this is so much bigger, the textbook policy, you know, answers, this is about changing a culture. And how do you do that? You tell the truth you stopped covering up, and you deconstruct these organizations who have failed thousands of little girls and young men, and we de certify the N G bees, such as USA gymnastics, who have proven themselves time, and time and time again on able to protect children. Well, since you mentioned USA. Gymnastics. I just want to note that we do have a statement from USA gymnastics. Again, it's just one of the fifty governing bodies that this new policy would apply to, and they say, we will never forget the appalling acts of abuse that have forever impacted our athletes, and the gymnastics community. We admire the survivors courage, and strength in sharing their stories and our goal is to do everything we can to prevent any opportunity for it to happen again..

"I had a mixed martial arts career. I had a professional career. And enjoy the timetables I began professional wrestling as the nineteen Ninety-two Olympics unit. You United States Olympic committee came out with a new rule at that time that allow athletes people. Amateur professional simultaneously as long as you weren't involved in high school or collegiate ethics because you still be governed by High School Athletic association rules or the NCAA rules. I was well past my kalija eligibility. Second have my cake and needed to coach at university. Naked still be a professional wrestler could still be a cage fighter in. There would be no repercussions to me whatsoever. Injury. Got a question over there, buddy. Somebody was asking what your training like when you were in the UFC. You're told us earlier that you weren't really going as hard as what people would think. Right. Yeah. No. It's I tell people it's kind of hard for them phantom. I only have did to true training camps for my cage. Fighting crown I only say cage fighting because. Mixed martial arts, you know, the term of mixed martial. Didn't that come about until you know, probably two thousand three four five somewhere in that range. And so. I don't I just just didn't didn't have the opportunity of all things because there was no real money though, either. And so I mean, I I made probably the most money at the time. But it wasn't like know you fast forward to today when you can make a million plus dollars four match, right? That makes makes the difference. And that's what I was gonna ask, you know, it's a totally different time. But which organization did you make more money in the WWE? Or are you see I made more money in professional wrestling. Yeah. That's that's kind of sad that right? Even say that. But it's the truth. It's, you know, pretty first time walking out into UCI signed a contract. My my guarantee to walk into that cage was one thousand dollars for thousand contract at the only two things you couldn't do to person was bite him out him and even small print at the bottom. Of that contra it stated in the event of your accidental death. Well, gosh, don't stick a finger. I don't buy them. There's a whole lot of other ways you could take someone apart without ever violating those two rules as you heard me say earlier, even as I was rolling around doing doing what I would do some of these a little bit of training. I'd be run around down on the mat? And I was going through I go see actions without ever strike. I go I go I go to touch now. Go hem strike ever elbow smash Becca Emerson, but they feel be moved because they feel the touch that just couldn't the control. I had when I was with these motions because I'm trying to do. I knew that. I had no cardiovascular because I wasn't training. But I knew that if I could go through the motions of this because I was doing MacKenzie go through the motions. But then physically or most you so I'm trying to train my body to do this. And there'd be what I'd be just driving down the road or I'd be in a hotel. So this I'm using the mental mind of training going to this go into this even two point that as I'm walking out into a cage. What's my game plan? Because I I didn't just let things happen. I mean. Yeah, these are going to happen. But I have a game plan. But how they plan on full of for me. It was the moment that that that match started as we move towards each other very rarely do they just keep Martin in this class. You get so close and then people stop and they take their stance. The moment that you take your stance. I went into autopilot a moment. I saw that stance. I knew exactly what to do amateurism. For example, the moment they take their stance..

We'll do we know if Dr Nassar was still treating or abusing children during that time. He was he was not treating them under the purview of the United States Olympic committee. Areas h mathematics, what happened was he quietly retired from usage and ethics and continue to work with the girls and young women at Michigan State University. Now during those fourteen months that these USOC and USA gymnastics executives knew about this this issue. What were they doing? Do. They address the problem at all. So I mean, I think they would make is used to work knew what they knew is that a number of gymnasts had suspicion that they had been assaulted the treatment it received wasn't legitimate. I think what what folks around the criticizing these executives for is that they didn't aggressively. Make sure that law enforcement was investigating and they didn't contact other organizations where he was working with kids like Michigan state, for example, and one of those executives said recently or have they said anything since this latest report has come out. They haven't one of them. One of them was fired. Actually. And know what's interesting about about the report is that it shed new light on what folks up US Olympic Committee actually knew about Larry Nassar and win. You know, the former chief executive Scott Blackmun. He initially claimed he didn't find out interested in September two thousand sixteen. Now apparent that that he knew in two thousand fifteen that law enforcement was investigators guy but didn't make an effort to make sure that he wasn't so working children. Elsewhere have survivors of Nassar's abuse said anything since this new report. They said that they think it validates the need for law enforcement investigation of the United States Olympic committee, basically Colorado Springs law enforcement, there has not executed any type of subpoena to look at their computer records to see how they handled this to see if any mandatory reporting laws were violated, and that that's what they would like to see happen. No, it's the United States Olympic committee's fault. It's all their phones period. It's all their faults and we are still, you know there. There are people in leadership positions at USA g Michigan state and USOC who are still have their jobs. You know, they go to work every day. Nothing's changed. The board of trustees at Michigan. State University is completely entirely in tact that blows our minds. And so we're still waiting for people like USOC to stop concealing, to stop skating, to stop approaching this as a public relations and marketing problem, and start approaching this as a sexual abuse problem. Because that's the problem that the United States Olympic committee has. All you need to do is look in the news. It's in diving. It's entitled Ondo. It's in speed skating. It's in swimming. They have sexual abuse problem, and they're, they're passing blame. They're not taking responsibility. They're using something called safe sport to sort of be there. PR safe haven. They're not keeping our athletes safe. This woman sitting next to me, they national treasure. She is the world champion, the world's best gymnast and look at the way she was treated by an organization that is is supposed to be holding her in Haya scene at the end of every summit. At least the last couple. They've asked me and say, j- Julie Foudy to get on stage and give a little wrap up three highlights or moments or messages that we're going to take away from the summit. So I thought I'd share a couple of them with you here including this one. Julie Foudy. The one thing that seemed to be a common theme that we saw is this activism from players. We heard WNBA players sitting here talking about it. We heard the USA women's hockey team talking about them standing up and speaking out. We've seen it in talked about it with soccer teams, and I find it remarkable that these players have the courage to do it. But I also find it shocking that we still live in a society that requires that we have to do it. And so my thing that stands out when I think about this is is clearly we talk about a lot the need for cultural change in I ask all of you who are watching on the stream or here today as sponsors as corporations as people in these communities. Let's make it a goal that we create this change and we don't require that players have to constantly do that, and I love that they are courageous enough to do that. But when you see something and you notice something that's. Speak up. One of my takeaways came from the USA women's hockey panel as well, and they came up not only to talk about Olympic gold over Canada, but their fight for equity with US hockey federation, massive story that inspired other leagues and other athletes to ask for the same and how many of them took to make that happen. This USA hockey panel just reminded me that sometimes when you need to get something done, you have to make major sacrifices and also it has to be unified. So in all the ways that we may even here where we feel like we're all on the same page on the big issues in the ways that we might differ in how to approach them, how to change them, how to put together a panel, how to run your company or do strategy for your next marketing campaign. In all the ways that we made disagree the power comes from coming together and we don't do enough of that right. Now things so divisive and listening to the USA hockey women calling beer league players, high school players, college players, women who have never put on ice skates that might be called because they look at Lennick and telling all of them do not go play..

It's very easy to click on the on its sprite on the top on the safe sport. And right now for for as a certified instructor, I took the training. There sounds like there's been updated since I took the training. It's a requirement for us to take it. And I will tell you. I'm not a parent, but I have very close to my nieces and my nephews, and I will tell you. I'm really glad that I took the training just in general for general information, and I even told my sister, and my brother, and my sister-in-law everybody that they should also go on and take the training 'cause it's really really good information. And it and it's worse anybody taking some time. So tell us who at this point is is needs to take it or how's that working for the organization? Sure. So right. Now, you know, we do have a few categories of of people that are required to take it that includes all of our staff, our board members all weissensteiner officials, and then there's other categories of individuals that that you SEF have contracts with that are required to take it such as our shift to keep the coaches for our teams teams that Marion's and anybody else that falls into kind of a broad category where they're in a position where they could influence the outcome. So that would include our selectors, and that pretty much covers that covers most of it right now for any events that USES is conducting for example, if it's a clinic than we would require clinicians that are going to be working directly with athletes, take it affoil. And and there is a physiotherapy program and those individuals are. Required to go through the the sport training as well as the criminal background screening. So as someone who used to teach riding lessons now, the minority of my clients were children. But of course, their kids everywhere when you're in a bar, and you have kids why did the US equestrian start the safe sport program? How did it become a thing because I went to the page on the website, and it's very thorough. And there's a lot of really good information. So I'm dying to know what got you involved in this. What why the start what the great question if we've dial back to about two thousand and eight following the Olympic Games, there were a lot of claims that were made against USA, swimming, and coaches concerning sexual abuse following that we saw a lot of the other sports. They were Mike these headlines about the complaints that were made involving minors and athlete and typically it was coaches. And so the USA swimming with the first one to actually develop a formal program that was known as a face sport program. The US Olympic Committee at that time identified that, you know, there's an issue that's common across all sports, and they needed to develop some sort of criteria to ensure that all of the sports were were able to address and and manage these types of complaints. And so in twenty eleven US the question got bald part of a working group led by the United States Olympic committee, looking at putting together some resources, which eventually led the minimum criteria that each of the sports on the Olympic program, including equestrian would adopt and adopted into a safe sport program and following that involvement in about the two thousand eleven two thousand twelve timeframe we formed a task force. And we tried to cover the spectrum on representation on that cast force. Actually, George Williams from year was a member of the past Gore's. We had someone who'd been a young rider. 'cause we wanted a young perspective. We had a parent we had somebody from outside of question that was from another sport that had a lot of experience with in this in this particular movement, and we were looking at the minimum criteria that the that the United States limpet committee with with setting forth..
