"Notice good of sound odd. What Mushoo? I'm glad the market pullback today stocks had an enormous front and you got to wonder if they can grow into their elevated price earnings multiples. What that's the big questions? Earning season goes into full. Swing what I mean by growing the price earnings multiples right. Now we're paying a great deal for future. Earning streams for example the average stock. Yes five hundred currently trades about twenty two times earnings. Now historically. That's pretty expensive normally. That's trying to get nervous. Trading North Nineteen Times servings on a trailing Mrs because that is where you tend to get in trouble by the way the crash in eighty seven twenty nine thirty and so let's take that off the table now and also in two thousand and Nasdaq. They didn't even have earrings arly. We should never have gotten this high in this particular market in the first place it reminds me the beach right before the Super Bowl. Two thousand eighteen when inflation came in too hot if the February employment number and the whole complex money mattress who've been betting against Bala Tilleke. Got Their heads into them something. They need to raise cash and they did it by selling espy. Five hundred futures which then crushed the stock market so what can justify these elevated valuations. How do we get through earning season unscathed? Why should we all be confident? What needs to happen? I the numbers actually do need. You'd be better than expected. And that's what we often banks when big institutional money manager stop worrying about their net interest margins starting to see. JP Morgan put up a consistently great number. That made its stock. Looked cheap it thirteen times however Chippewa actually didn't rally news typically didn't go down giving the stock a lower multiple and higher earnings model now sells for twelve times irks Goldman Sachs consistent. Number expected inconsistency. That's could that alone at the end of the month analyst meeting that everyone's so excited about gave investors conviction that they needed to buy it at ten times earnings. Obviously the biggest winner was Morgan. Stanley still sells the same multiple ten times earnings even at reporting a truly colossal quarter that ten stock up five points. That's multiple compression in short when the banks reported better than expected numbers. It's simply kept their stocks running in place. Usually these kinds of results would trigger terrific valleys but this is what happens. Inexpensive market of course when expectations are meagre as was the case with. IBM This evening. beat her repeatedly repeatedly lowered bar and that is enough to send a stock up in after hours. But that was not the case with banks where the bark of B rays second potential justification after bt mergers and acquisitions if we see companies buying other companies. That's a sure. Sign that these valuations. Actually that we aren't paying too much now. We had a big emanate party last year. But so far the beginning of twenty twenty. It's been quiet. Third Bank dividend boosts and buybacks. We quietly misjudge. These methods of returning capital Cheryl. That's a mistake in your city retired. One that's often ignored by this show and by all shows does it shouldn't be ignored forth phase one trade deal with China's because many underperforming stocks to start outperforming. It could take months for the White House to actually roll back the tariffs once they do. We have to believe it will allow the earnings of many companies to blossom. Finally we mean bond yields to have another leg down because it will help prop pop stocks with high dividends by comparison of course in many ways. This is the thing I am most worried about. Though if we get a wholesale declined bond prices causing a surge in bond yields some of the Stock Market Awesome series competition. It can happen. I'm glad that has been so weak of Laden's could for exporters but it's weak because investors from overseas have stopped the relentless purchases of US treasuries if Daniels don't roll over this market will suddenly start seeming a lot more expensive and that is the trouble with expensive markets..

"They're talking high, single digits, even low double digits, doesn't numbers that both big box stores kill for hardly the Costco's about to be now led by Amazon anytime soon can cost keep running coupla reports on Thursday night, and it's possible for the stock say, it might be priced for perfection. So let's see what they have to say. How. Oh, quiver, KR Lord, supermarket chain of Markelle. This has been much tougher own than Costco. You've that's really rough earning. So it's been pretty volatile, but the darn things still is valid more than forty, six percent from its lows last October more than triple the fifteen percent game? Yes. And p of the same period, of course, when Koga reported latest quarter last month, this talk plus ten percent in a single session. Because the numbers just so darn ugly. My view course to one best friend of course around and management has a plan to turn things around, but the companies become Manley inconsistent and the stocks are real wild trader. I wouldn't buy unless you're prepared for some whiplash as for sprouts farmers market. It's a fifty five percent from its lows in the wake of Amazon's type of whole foods. Fifty, five percent fewer spouts sucks when I'm so dramatically in the last few months that it would be reckless to take some profits. That is a high quality problem. You think about it, heck, even super value the most trouble player in the group action quota, takeover bid back in July from United natural foods. If you bought this thing when everyone was freaked out about the death star, well, you'd have at least double now. Lately, the analysts started Freddie. My view I like Cosco because it's got something the other stone have a membership model where they pay them where they paid you. I'm sorry, you pay them for fantastic deals, and you know what? That's really where they make all their money. The rest of the supermarkets on to dramatically, and there's nothing during the register, Costco, again, reports this week don't go crazy who else cancers in Amazon survivor early. Sure. Giant got even bigger when it announced the acquisition of Mazo robotics for one point, six billion dollars. I'm guessing they got a good price, Mattie, because shares Medtronic were up on this news. I think they did. I mean, and I, I'm shareholder of maser robotics. And so I think this is one of the situations where I'm supposed to say, well, this feels bittersweet, but actually there's nothing really sweet about it for me because I, I was really excited to see mazer remain a small independent company and see if they grow their real innovator in the area of spine, a robotic spinal surgery, which is demonstrating great efficacy in that when they made the deal with Metron a couple of years ago, they did it for the right reasons. In other words, been trying to cause a massive sales organization would give them wider distribution, a lot more traction. But I knew as soon as mazer had any sort of success Medtronic was right there to buy them out in the own twelve percent of the shares coming into the deal. So not surprised by the buyout a little bitter that I'm gonna lose my mazer. Shares pretty soon not to be confused with Mozell robotics, which is something I haven't invented yet, but I've got a couple of ideas. United natural foods is the largest supplier to whole foods. Fourth quarter results came in lower than expected and shares of United natural foods down more than twelve percent on Friday. Geez, it's been a tough year for this company for a couple of reasons relating Amazon buying whole foods is put them in a little bit of a different position in the value chain. But also if you go back to July in this merger with super value in essentially this effort to consolidate on the wholesale side, it makes sense. But I think it really shines a light on how difficult to spaces and so with United natural foods, that relationship with whole foods was very meaningful. It was responsible for about thirty three thirty, four percent of their yearly revenues. The acquisition from Amazon is going to change that most likely that that relationship ends in two thousand and twenty-five, but it's not to say that they couldn't perhaps end it sooner. And so I think that managing. At United natural foods is feeling a little bit of the fire there. That was the impetus behind these super value merger and the super value merger is not going to come cheap. And at the end of the day, they are still caught in this massive price squeeze as these grocers just compete for the lowest cost. So I, I don't know that the future really looks bright for these guys, even if they execute this merger flawlessly, it's just it's a really difficult business. The grocery space in more and more United natural foods seems like they're kind of middleman spot coming up. We've got a surprise from Disney and a hot IPO stare at here. "And united natural foods should benefit from this i think the early assumptions are that they will time obviously tell but certainly it was good quarter for the company it seems like the stock is starting to reflect a little bit more optimism are we're gonna get to apple in just a second but i wanna say thanks to our friends at rocket mortgage look if you're getting a mortgage or you refinancing your home loan that is it is not a fun process it is not a walk in the park and when you're making a big financial decision like that you just want to be confident and that's what rocket mortgage does it gives you the confidence the same level of confidence that you have in your everyday life for your job and it's simple rocket mortgage allows you to fully understand all the details and be confident that you're going the right mortgage for you so to get started just go to rocket mortgagecomfool that rocket mortgagecomfool equal housing lender licensed in all fifty states nmlsconsumeraccessorg number thirty thirty the lead story on motley for money over the weekend was about the music streaming industry which i think it's becoming one of the more interesting industries to watching 2018 we started with the reports that your who is reportedly going to make a third go of a music streaming business launching something in march and apple this morning reports out that apple is going to be buying should sam which is a music recognition app this is on the heels of another acquisition that apple just made they bought a podcast search started up called pop up archive.

"Raising or or you recognize that you've really got the biggest player in the space and they and they own that competitive advantage that allow them to keep on growing in in in commanding at least some pricing i mean united natural foods has a very strong network uh across the country and it it's the biggest distribution network in the country and and they've done a very good job overtime in uh being able to get those naturals organics' and all those sort of new products that are really started to stock on the shelves of whole foods is responsible for a lot of their money if he if you look back to any given year about a third of of of whole foods total sales is thanks to united natural foods now united nettle foods is a supplier to not just whole foods though i mean they supply safeway kroger public swagman 's i mean they they supply all of these a grocer's but it was when we saw this acquisition one we saw amazon by whole foods it was a big question mark is exactly how this was gonna work out for a united natural foods minimal one on one hand you could see hey maybe this results in a lot of potential business for them if amazon's really good about growing that footprint getting more people to shop at all foods in on the other side given amazon's expertise in in fulfillment logistics and what not it's very reasonable to assume they could disrupt united natural foods and do something better at a lower costs uh it does appear at least in the early innings here that united natural who may benefit from this relationship because they were surprised a little bit to the upside of they got a lot of extra business here uh presumably from whole foods many cannery between the lines you can see that it was it was from all foods and i mean when we look at online grocery sales that was forty two billion dollars in two thousand and sixteen that was up one hundred and fifty six percent from two thousand and fifteen now with amazon buying whole foods with with all of sort of the new ways this that this model shaking out i mean this is the number it's only gonna continue to grow so it would seem at least.

"It'll be interesting to see what networks that currently have a given sport just come out and say we're not we're not doing this again you know and they decided to walk away or they offer a modest increase if if cbs decides we like having these afc games and some of the playoffs but you know what we're not doing this again when the contract is up well in the economics don't make sense form we can already see early seen sort of this this evolution is is is so easy go from broadcast tv to cable i mean broadcasttv israeli having trouble making those numbers meat now so they're not going to be able to really outdid many competitors anymore cable were kind of seeing the same problem there in that a lot of people are opting not to get cable packages or at least different abel package and so it's just a very interesting sort of evolution in the space and in it's all going more towards mobile uh many different ways to get it as distribution really has been changed forever thanks to the internet so up this is just the beginning i think about going to see a very long sort of transformation of the space or the coming decade united natural foods is a major supplier for whole foods and you united that enough natural stock and set a roof couple of years early 2015 it was just over eighty dollars a share earlier this year it had fallen as low as twenty nine and the last few months it's really started to bounce back and you'd point in me to a story that that seems to indicate that united natural foods might be sort of the hidden beneficiary of amazon's acquisition of whole foods it could be i mean this is actually a really interesting story that's developing in i mean i think it proves that the amazon whole foods tie up is more important it's very important obviously in a lot of different ways but but it's beyond just those two big names in amazon offers an united natural foods is a company i've covered for some time now when i started researching back in two thousand and twelve in on the surface you know you look at the business and i mean it is in food distribution which is really a very low margin game and so the.
