"Okay, So if it's gas, I should definitely have it checked out. Well, you have If you see flames, I'm just clarifying between the two. If you have flames and you have gas fireplace Looks like an electric fireplace will not produce flames. I don't believe right. That's right. Yeah, it'll just be the appear. Okay, Because too many people have had fires from the fireplaces. So people want to save money. That's great. But you don't want your house to burn up. I'm telling you, I don't know Two people now. So you better check it out. And I'm definitely gonna call you guys again. Thanks So much. Have a great one day We'll talk to you next week. Yes, you will. That's all everyone think I said okay. But by 4487207 50 is the number. The information David gave was correct for the kind of fireplace she had. I was just trying to clarify. If you have an actual flame burning, then you do not have an electric fireplace have an electric start gas fireplace. Yeah, that's correct. And this is from the guy who growing up in Iowa. We had actual electric fireplace well and hung on the wall. It looked like you know, the little electric fan would heat up and would blow the warm air out. And then you get the light bulb turning into some fake logs. You make it look like when you looked at it real close. The chimney went up about 2 ft. And he just stopped and we used to, you know, set stuff on top of that. That's an electric fireplace. That Z. Yeah, they make Electric fireplaces. They're very popular. Yeah, and they're Yeah, we'll just let it go that because I don't want to ruin anybody's dream of their fire. Carry this half hour. The home fix it shows brought to my Uncle Guard Foundation Solutions for all 487207 50 is the number. Let's go to Maysville. Talkto. How? How You're on the home. Fix it, Joe. Good morning, Dave. And thank you for taking my call. Um, quick question. I've got a a fairly large screened in porch outside. Have next year. Your fireplace house built a couple of years ago. But one thing I've noticed is that when I light a fire out there, um I really get smoke that comes inside Doesn't really draw really well. Off the chimney. Once the fire gets hot and cold. It does just fine. When I first started, they have lot of smoke that comes back. And if there's any kind of used a little breathed anything I could do about that. Well, you know, it depends on the construction in Might a little bit of height might help on that. But basically when you're when you're outdoors is different than an indoor fireplace in that you have a pressure. Differential on an indoor fireplace that is negative. Uh, negative pressure at the top positive at the bottom so that it's flowing better, but outside, it's more like dealing with a fire pit. You know what I mean? So the the pressure can push directions very easily. Um And it's just, you know, dealing with outdoor fireplaces. There's a little bit tougher. The That's nor not. It's not predictable. Unreliable. Yeah, Fair enough. Thank you very much. I appreciate that. Thank you. Wow. For all 487207 50 is the number A long time ago, I took some classes from the George Association of Home Inspectors and one of the things I learned when you're building Is that a chimney? Has to be I'm going to say 3 ft. Taller than anything within 10 ft of it to have a proper draw. Coming out the time your house was that sound. That is minimum code is 3 ft. Higher than where penetration roof and 2 ft higher than any portion of the structure within 10 ft. Okay, But that means said, you know, like on up exterior ports like that. Often it's AH, route that's much lower than the main part of the house, You know, so it was owed. It may still be, You know, not tall enough that affected draw Now I'm not talking about Of applied fireplace. I'm talking to him just talking about any fireplace in general. Does that affect the draw off? It's too short or too close or anything like that. Yeah, There's usually on most fireplaces. You want a minimum 15 ft height. Okay. If that's something that I can go that you can, I would do it myself. I can call old hat and you could come out and make my fireplace taller after market. Is that okay? And in some cases, if you know masonry fireplaces, we can definitely do that, Um, prefabricated fireplaces. It's totally dependent on the age and the manufacturer Because those are you? L listen appliances and the older models are not supported anymore. If you have an older model that has pipe is not available, and we can't really do anything except replaced the whole system. And that could affect the draw. And that seems to be the whole thing. People. I don't get a good drawing, and it's like they don't enjoy their fireplace the way they should because it doesn't work the way it should. Right? Good thing. This is quite a difference Going between Scott I was born and David Bar held How's that? Well, they Scott would still be telling me about the stack. Look, I love Scott husband. "To the phones. And what time DeGregorio here from Uncle Guard. Foundations. Solutions. Let's go talk with Kenny and Fair, Bill Kenney. You're on the home fix it show. Hey, Good morning, guys taking my call. Thank you. Um, I have a question finishing a basement and you're gonna put laminate down on top of the basement. Concrete? Um We recommend using poxy or a different type material, too. Kind of painter. Floor before I put the lamb in it to fill it. Um well, let me ask a couple questions. Um How old is the base? How old is the house? The house was built and 99. Hey, Has it ever been professionally? What approved? Not really. I've added a sump pump because, of course, you know, waters up underneath the basement, and I do have some dark places on in certain areas that looks like maybe they didn't put the plastic No, before that, toward the thing that Right? Well, the reason I'm asking is is, you know I'm gonna Take my salesman hat off and put on my consultant hat and just tell you Dave, You're gonna help me with this. You know, there's two kinds of basements kind of leak and the kind that will leak eventually. My only point is this every day we walk in the homes that have finished basements. That leak. You know, for the first time and all of the stuff you're doing, including your flooring will have to come out. At least around the perimeter. If it's not damaged when it when it leaks, So I'm gonna recommend the cheapest insurance you can do is to waterproof your basement before you finish it. But As far as your flooring system goes, Um You know, I would put a floating system down the epoxy you wanted to do, maybe just to kind of try to steal the slab. That was your thinking. That is correct. Yes. Yeah, And I mean, it wouldn't hurt. But that isn't gonna prevent a basement from leaking. Where typically does which is where the wall in the floor meat or through the wall. Um so I mean, everything you can Well, no down at the base. Where the wall in the floor meet, Um Um yes. Oh, So I mean, you can certainly is steal the floor. But it's probably just throwing good money after bad. I mean, these lemon and products are you know, are typically made of plastic or You know, something that isn't isn't organic. So you know, a little moisture isn't gonna paper isn't gonna unnecessarily hurt it. Um But you know, I would. I would certainly consider doing something to the basement before you. You end up putting up sheetrock and studs unless they already there. Hangouts like it harshly. Go ahead. Go ahead, Kenny, are they already there? Yeah, I am. Yeah, Partially. Yes, Some of it's already up. Um And I have, like killed around the edges where you're talking about, Um, the basement wall in the flooring. Around the whole perimeter. Um It's well, um and I painted like Kills are among the wall. All right. Let's get Tom style on Evan, because we're getting ready to get to Georgia basketball. I mean, those are all you know, kind of handyman things, none of which, if your basement's gonna leak none of what you just did is gonna make make a difference, but Um, you know, we'll be happy to take, you know, give you an idea what that would cost to look like you can certainly.

I mean, if you do one basement this week, you could do another base in the next week, Couldn't you, Tom? Yes, we can do several in the same day. It doesn't make any sense to save it for next week. Tom de Gregorio right now from Uncle Guard, Foundations, solutions talking about things underneath the house. You're kind of in underneath the house guy. Underground under the house. Yeah, You got some sub grade sub Great Tom Dick or above above grade sub grade work that I like it. Let's go back to the phones. Let's talk to Tom, Tom Tony. In Gainesville. Tony, you're on the home. Fix it, Joe. Hey, you guys. Thanks for taking my call. Um, I have a question about a house I just purchased about six months ago. And we've now Found out We have some foundation issues. We there is an addition to the house. It's Ah breakfast area. It's about a 10 by 12 room and it was built on. Ah, guess like a cinder block and brick facade, Um, Footing Foundation. But the interesting part of it is that it is cantilevered about 2 ft. Out. Um, they couldn't have the foundation out that far because there's a septic tank filled line there and they couldn't build on it. So they cantilevered part of the addition. Now it's sloping and even inside the foundation area where we're having some floor buckling problems, so How would you recommend? What would you recommend doing with that? I just get breakfast. But maybe time has a different well, get dynamite first and then breakfast. So So, Tony, let me ask you the part that is cantilevered. Is is on a block foundation or it's the original its foundation. No, there's a foundation that was built for that. At that addition, it was a totally new addition. And there's the foundation that was built for that. But the foundation is about 2 FT. On each side smaller than the actual room over got it. Yeah. Wow. So you're probably the way to that is probably, you know, pulling down on the rest of it, causing the buckling. Not a good picture doesn't sound like that was engineered quite properly. You might have to Uh, put in some type of posts, T o support that can alleviate area and I realize you're sitting on top of your septic system, but you may not have a choice. You have any recourse with the people? Who did? Did you do this renovation or you bought it this way. You said we bought the house this way recently and it was done several years ago. The cycle garden Disciple guard fixed foundations. Can you make a new foundation for him, Tom? Well, we could but the foundation really He needs a foundation under the cantilevered section and that they didn't do that, because it was over there. The subject could be permitted on the line. So you you you're gonna have Tonto. Probably put in some type of steel posts. If something's gotta support that can believe it, because it's going to create a lot of stress. As you can see, it already is. It is pulling pulling down because nothingto Support it on is probably that cannot leave it. Area probably has a roof line above it that also adding to the voice, right? Yeah. So, um, that you're still gonna have a problem? We can look at that. For you, but most likely based on what I'm hearing, you're still gonna have to put in some type of support system That's gonna have to go on top of or in the tank area, And that's kind of Ah. Precarious situation, but it might be your only on Kit's only over the film line, so it's It's not over the tank itself so well, then, you know we could probably put in some some peers or some foundation puddings and something I think it could be addressed. Give us a call and let us take a look at that. It's a tricky situation, but I think we can help you with it. All right. Great. All right. Thank you, guys. Thanks for the call. Tony 40487207. 50 is the number. Let's go to Dunwoody. Speak with Patsy. Hello, Patsy. Hello? Hello? Yeah. Can you hear us? Yes, I can. Thank you. Thank you. We got a great discount. Thank you, because we mentioned your name Day Baker, but they they took out all of the insulation under the floors and It's cold, So we we don't know whether we should We've done some research. But we don't know whether we should re insulate the floors or should we encapsulate the floors the across space. Okay, well, I mean, that's an easy one. You absolutely want and need to encapsulate the crawl space for all kinds of reasons. It will definitely solve the cold floors. Because even if to put insulation back in Passy, um if there's still gonna be cold because you have events that are open on just inviting that warm, cold air and you know, days like today you're going to really feel it encapsulating it will actually close. "But the foundation cracks also kinda cracked me up because to me the guy who thinks he's a home fix a guy who thinks he's a do it yourself. When maybe that's Doesn't help it all you know, And it's like that's what you need to get extra eyes on Some professionalized foundation is something that I think needs professional eyes on it. It does. You know the We've seen some very interesting, uh, do it yourself repairs and, um and none of them are gonna have to do anything you know, Short or or long term. Hydraulic cement is something that a lot of people will Well, you know, use on a crack, but it's you can't get the hydraulic cement in the crack because it's not wide enough. So, and hydraulic cement is as rigid as the wall itself is so it's typically movement that can cause those cracks. So the minute wall moves just a little bit. The crack is going to reflect right back through the hydraulic cement so It's really it's really kind of a useless but I think I kind of wish they never invented because it leads to more problems in it. You know you can't lead to more problems than it would She? It has its applications, but it's certainly not for crack with their speaking with Tom de Gregorio from Uncle Guard Foundation Solutions. So first question was how often Did you clean your ducks on? Um, it depends on what? How much activity have in your house, but the general rule of thumb. Not every 3 to 7 years, and so if you are a retired couple, it's just you guys in your house. You know, you might be on the latter end, maybe even the longest, like eight or nine years. But if you are active health with kids and dogs and durables and everything going on, you might be every 3 to 4 years, But five years Five years is a good that's a safe number. So if you just calendar Hey, every five years when I get her ducks clean, it also depends. Excuse me. It also depends. Deborah. And if people in the house have allergies, or if they're you know of breathing is important to them because that will keep things clean. If you have allergies, or, you know, especially problem allergies, you may wanna do it little more often. Yes. Yes. And I'm going to take advantage of that special the $75 off. I'm definitely gonna look into that this week there. You know you won't regret it. It's Ah Ah, lot of people question like, is that clean? Real doesn't work. And I promise you when you have it done the right way. It makes a difference. So Um, we have just really neat giant trucks that show up to your house, and they clean outstanding and then your other question that fucking answer that real quick. What kind of fiber So I always like, like 1/5 generation nylon carpet, something like that, or, um, they're coming. You know, this is the first time it's happened in a long time, but they came out then truly a new fiber. A few years back, and it's called smart Strand, and it is a very, very stain resistant carpet holds up pretty well. But anything that's in the nylon family is generally very good. And, um, check out that smart strand to that is a very Very unique. Um, fiber. They just came out with people like you here. Designers talk about Fibers. You know, Fact materials haven't changed in like 40 years. They might relabel them are rebrand them, But they're the same thing. You know, They're not new. It's not new technology. Smart stranded in new technology, so That's good hand. I wanted either one of those you're gonna be in good shape. Thank you so much. You were wonderful. And good luck with your company. It's fabulous. Thank you so much. Thank you. Deborah. Thanks for the call. 4487207 50 is the number Patrick's wife is on the phone. All right, James isn't Buford James. I'm gonna take that right there. I'm a guy. I do stuff grease on my carpet. Yeah, it's great. Okay, So you know where you want to start. Um, probably don't have some of this stuff laying around, but we're gonna start with either like cornmeal or baking soda. And we want to put that on there and brush it in with a soft brush, and that's gonna absorb whatever Greece that can absorb Then after you've done that, what we're gonna do is the same thing. I always talk about. Rinse and repeat, but We're gonna use some fish soup That's good at cutting through Greece, So I'm gonna use a brand name, but like dawn, something like that Warm water. And we're gonna rent and repeat, rinse and repeat, Rinse and repeat, and Greece is not easy..
