Near-Death Experiences

"Accounts of near death. Experiences can be polarizing indie. Most often happened while people are unconscious so researchers are incredibly limited in what they can actually measure. They must rely on human testimony to fill in. What's actually happening in other words. Andy ease exist near the intersection of two seemingly contradictory ideas science and faith which is why after a neurosurgeon reported in n. d. e. it became central to the conversation in nineteen eighty eight. Dr eban alexander began his career in boston at one of the most prestigious hospitals in the country. Brigham and women's well working as a neurosurgeon. Dr alexander simultaneously target his father's alma mater. Harvard medical school in both institutions. He had access to some of the most cutting edge medical technology in the world. Soon dr alexander became an expert in a non invasive. Surgical treatment called stereo tactic. Radio surgery a procedure that uses targeted radiation to address medical abnormalities. In the brain it can even eliminate tumors without needing to open the skull in his own practice. Doctor under-used stereo tactic. Radio surgery to treat cancer. Epilepsy mentoring nerves and tangled blood vessels and for nearly a decade in the field of medicine. His star was on the rise until two thousand one when an elderly woman from arizona. Whom will call. Rose contacted him to remove a benign tumor in her brain. Dr alexander was one of the few surgeons in the country capable of performing the procedure. So rose flew from arizona all the way to boston but she didn't receive the treatment that she expected when rose arrived at the hospital orderlies placed her in a wheelchair and brought her into the operation. Room apparently no one spoke to her or explain what was happening. After doctors strapped into a device rendering it immobile rose demanded to meet. Dr eben alexander. She was about to go under and he had yet to introduce himself mere minutes before the operation began. Dr alexander stepped in front of her said. Hello and assured her that she was in good hands then she drifted into unconsciousness and the surgery began when rose woke up in the icu. She couldn't move the left side of her face. Dr alexander never warned her about the risks associated with her surgery and though he'd successfully eliminated her tumor half of her face was now permanently paralyzed. Ultimately rose filed a lawsuit. Her lawyers asked to see the paperwork she'd signed before entering surgery. But apparently dr alexander could only produce a single sheet of paper. It didn't even have rose's signature on it. Apparently dr alexander had misplaced a number of her forms. The case was eventually settled out of court shortly after. Brigham and women's fire dr alexander from their roster administrators have not stated whether or not the dismissal was related to the lawsuit. Either way dr alexander moved on to work for umass memorial medical center located in worcester massachusetts. Where apparently his careless behavior continued during one operation. Dr alexander reportedly left a small piece of plastic inside a woman's nick. In addition to the pain this caused her she needed another intensive surgery to have it removed then in august two thousand three umass suspended dr sanders for an error made during an operation. On another patient's brain stem the specific details surrounding. These punitive measures remain confidential by early two thousand seven. Social Distancing in Summer

Coronavirus: Fact vs Fiction

Social Distancing in Summer

"Has the summer heats up. People all over the country are considering now. How much risk they are willing to take as they venture outside. Some are thinking about reuniting with friends and family for the first time. Others are trying to decide whether or not to take a road trip. What about physically distanced backyard barbecue? Just. How risky is it to make this summer? Feel like well summer. It is important to understand what the likelihood of contracting the corona virus is and transmitting it. So that you can make the right decisions for yourself and for your family. I'm Dr Sanjay. Gupta CNN's chief medical correspondent. And this is corona, vice, fact versus fiction. So I have an eleven at neely eleven and thirteen year olds, and so the conversations were having now are about what else summa looks like. That's Aaron Judge, Professor, at UMASS DARTMOUTH and CNN contributor since his blog post about avoiding situations with a high risk of infection went viral. He's become a resource for many people. Some does look a little bit different, and there's been a lot of tears in this house over the last eight weeks, but We're trying to gain normalcy for our children as much as we can. The possibility of having a normal summer is not a lot of our minds. So I asked Erin about some of the questions. I've been hearing from you. Starting with pools is it safe to take a dip properly maintain to pull. Water will not be a source of spread of the virus. The chlorine that's in its will inactivate virus fairly quickly and the level of dilution that would happen in a pool or notional or lodge freshwater body would not lead to enough virus to establish an infection. But when you do this, you need to just make sure that we're maintaining an appropriate physical distance and create a little bit of extra space I. Don't know if you or your family members have been doing any hiking or going for long walks around your neighborhood. What precautions do do you think people should take if they just WANNA go for a walk or a hike? So, we have as a family, we each have three mosques We have a better quality one if we get into grocery stores or anywhere. We know there's going to be a lot of people. We have one win. We're just going to do a show. Than we have out general sort of mosque, which is a neck data that we use any time we go hiking or around the neighborhoods where we know that we are able to social distance the vast majority of time, but there are some times where the path my narrow and. while. The brief encounter is not as risky as the longer one. It's not no risk and you don't know the risk factors of the person that is walking past you and I tend to take mosques a little bit more altruistically. It is about me wearing them to protect us, and so when we get in that situation, we just literally pull up gate of mosques over our face. We do that about fifty feet out from the person or people. People so they can see what we're doing. And then we just run a little bit of a wider above as we possibly can. Games like soccer or basketball, would you? Would you be okay? People playing those? Yeah, I'm eat soccer coach and I really want to get my teams out on the fields, but not playing scrimmages yet were not sure enough especially with children about their role in infection and transmission, so no, I'm not yet there for. Those sports, but as long as it doesn't bring you in face to face contact. I think the the risk is low. A baseball of Frisbee is not right up there where I'm spending my anxiety. What about a road trip this summer for family? They want to go on a road trip and stay in either a hotel or an AIRBNB. Something like that. If it's your own family, I'm not to consent. Call head to the hotel. Will the YOU'RE GONNA? Stay at ask what they cleaning protocols are end what this Stafa wearing while they cleaning the room and if that comes into line with what your risk is for your. Your family then I would proceed a medium sized gathering like a birthday party or a wedding ceremony. Would you be okay with that? Weddings done outsides with appropriate spacing. Absolutely it can be done a birthday party again in a backyard outside can be done. I. Just encourage people to bring their own chairs while it's nice to stand up in chat, we find. People stopped to move closer and closer the more comfortable they feel, and if you've got a chair, you don't drift and that just maintains the safety while keeping the social aspect I. I really love your your practicality because you are thinking exactly how people probably behave. Disneyworld they're planning on opening up in July. What do you think about amusement parks? Yes, so amusement parks I mean if they they can institutionalize cleaning and. Keeping. Systems like lines organized better than almost anyone. We know they're in the business of doing that. But when we're bringing a lot of people together, we know the risks come up. My major concern comes with the rides that put people into slipstream. I don't know enough about aerodynamics and transmission on Roller coasters, but I can only imagine from being on them in the past that someone that screaming in front of you. Whatever's coming out of them as coming directly onto you in pretty intense. For a few minutes.

"And as soon as I mentioned, Dolan Farrar was out, got to got to get courtside seats though. Gotta get out Jerry seats. Okay, Jerry's. Jerry look, Jerry's big in the organization. He's, he has. Drake as the Drake role. I, I think quietly, I mean, you can't really be bike is spike is the guy over there. Jerry runs, they're like video game league. He's the manager of the video game league. He kicked out of the on the payrolls. Join doing the neighborhood, but said Cedric the entertainer, the best man. It's like a real old school. I mean you it's an old school multiple, which is really nice. And I think like not not a lot of them exist anymore in front of studio audience studio audience. It's not really a joke based comedy. It's really situational and there's like they, the writer, Jim Reynolds, who created the show, has really allowed it to have these real moments. And we are there isn't necessarily a joke the end. They don't let the audience off the hook and you get to really know these characters and it's been so much fun. Yeah. And what's been like with Cedric the entertainer out. I mean, he goes way back here in Los Angeles. He knows everybody, and yet he really is like he really is a legend and just knows everybody and and has so many people. Like Ray Lewis came by the set the other day. There's all these like people that just will roll through Railleuse yet Ray came through it was really cool. He's a big dude. He is bigger than you think, right. Could you imagine him and pads come into anger, downhill at you got an enormous head. I never really. I had a buddy of mine who played middle linebacker UMass and he was, and he said that the scout he's scouts came to NFL scouts came out to him. I said, let me look your hands and he was like, and he showed him his hands and I go on, oh, you're like seventy pounds more than you should be. And he was like, I at the time I was like beefed up just by looking at his hands because they could see that his hands were disproportionate to the rest of his body. And then you see some of these guys like Ray Lewis. And I remember I met Lance Briggs and you're like, these guys are freight trains the wheels fit on the train. If the, you know, we were talking about this the other day about Earl Aker when you meet or lacquer, he is way taller than you think he is mcginest willy movie or locker store this. This is now the floor is yours. This many, many years ago, this is when it was bald? Yes. Oh, totally house. He he was young bear. Okay. We were doing and celebrity in this went instinct was still a group. I was like on the other way they, they still are grouped I guess we were on. But this before Timberlake went solo. So we were in Chicago. They invited me and I was Veronica Mars at the time and they invited me out to do some instinct basketball game and in Chicago. So Erlich was playing in the game, and you could tell once it's sort of like once they, they tipped the ball. This guy like just doesn't know how to go half speed. And there was some drummer from some band, like some poppy, you know, tar band got in the way he was going for a loose ball and her locker thought got chance of this. This guy mowed down this poor drummer from whatever and Arnold tap in a way that was every like teen girl who is sitting there going, oh, my never seeing them play. Basketball was like horror. And you could see Earl or locker got the ball like knocked back in bounds. And you could see like it was just there wasn't any sort of recognition that I just murdered a popstar side of war. Well, it's ways in the hall of fame max one speed. It was really cool to see. Well, it's been cool hanging with you here. I am greenfield on Twitter. Check out the neighborhood. Min max, greenfield Cedric the entertainer and and more Mondays on CBS at eight eastern time, comeback. Good luck to you and your fantasy football season from here on out..

"Of their report basically they feel as though to some extent that umass has too much freedom hugh basically purchase land outright without having to check with officials i know i'm going into policy here but just sort of was in the news this week what's what's your feeling on that well i think the most important thing is that we have leadership in the governor's office in at umass that is prior prioritizing a public university system the system and you know we've got instead right now about the nurse and president of umass who glen this whole transaction happened that their number one priority was taking care of the students at mount ida now what happened students at mount ida should never happen to anyone and there's a tragedy and i don't know how it got to the point where the governor and his administration didn't know that this was happening and didn't do something to ensure that the students were taking care of for the students at umass boston who've been treated like second class citizens here that they're governor and their president their system president are saying that they aren't the priority and where they're enduring cuts to their programs and professors getting laid off and and a lot of other hardships at umass boston it's totally unacceptable and i think you know they deserve a governor who is going to prioritize them and the president at umass who's going to prioritize them and make sure that the u mass system operates more like a system where you've got umass amherst with the capacity to make a huge acquisition of a campus ten miles away from umass boston we should be leveraging some of those resources instead to help the campus that already exists in the u mass systems in boston yeah i mean i think one of the ways to potentially do that would be to make sure that the state department of education department of higher education has the authority at the very least to weigh in they don't even vote on it at the very least.
