"It so fancy, huh? Trying to keep planting flags, folks, That's all I'm trying to do. And, um so I'll be there. And it'll be great. It'll be a lot of fun. Every single Monday night just spoke to Mike Mayock. But let's be a little bit more fair and balanced to talk about the other side is our next guest on the phone like yes. He's entering his fourth year in the National Football League third round pick in the 2000 and 18 draft, and he signed a four year $56 million contract extension on his 26th birthday. Happy birthday to you. Baltimore Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. How are you, Mark? Hey, rich. Thanks for having me on. You know, like you said it was incredibly good birthday. Um, could have asked for anything more man. I'm incredibly worse. Yeah. I mean, if somebody told you growing up Hey, on your 26th birthday, you're going to sign up for your $56 million extension with an NFL franchise. What would you said? Uh, man, I would have thought you were crazy, man. But I've been working a long time for this lot of hard work that has been put into this. And, um, you know, sports have been my whole life. So, um, you know, just to be able to have that be able to do that. My birthday with the Ravens. Um you really can't ask for anything more, man. This is an incredible place. Um, the place where they love football. They love winning. Um, and that's what I'm about all that if I told you on draft night That you would sign a contract, Multi million dollar contract extension before Baker Mayfield, your college teammate. What would you have said on that night? Um, man, Um, I probably would have said you were crazy again. Man again, man. There's been a lot of hard work. Um, you know, there's been a lot of people that You know throughout my career doubted me and what not, so I'm just to be able to have this contract and stuff like that. It's awesome, man. So obviously be able to one up guys like bacon in Orlando. Um, you know, it's good for me. Mark Andrews here on the Rich Eisen show on the Mercedes Benz vans phone line here on the Friday of the NFL season, kicking off prior to the Monday night game. Between his Ravens and the Raiders. So did you watch? Do you watch the season opener? Did you check that one out? You did. I kind of tuned out around the third quarter. But I was able to watch both teams would really, really good. Um, cross looked really, really good. So it was fun to see. Um, but you know a lot of competition, but it feels awesome Man having the NFL season back and Obviously going to watch the open and see how things go. But, um, you know, football is back, man. So, yeah, I'm just wondering how do you watch a game like that? As a player in the NFL? What do you want You looking for? I mean, you know for me, it's you know, try to It's hard to watch. You know the games on TV Just because you watched film and stuff like that. So I kind of approach it the same way I watched them watch the tight ends. Um and then I watched the defense. See what they're doing. So what do you see when you see Gronk? What do you think of when you saw he looks really, really good. Um He's doing a lot of good things. You can tell that you know him and, um Brady have been doing this for a long, long time, but they look like they're in mid season form. And you, you know, do you, uh, aspire or think you've reached there, and you could just shoot me straight the elite status of tight ends. I mean, you've got a contract like one. You definitely have numbers like one. We talk in the media quite a bit about Gronk. Another 87 in Kansas City. Um, also, Kittle. Waller gets a lot of run. Do you feel like you get enough run? The the United When you think about a guy like groggy, um he's in a whole another level, you know in a itself and there may be a couple guys with him, but, uh, you know, he's a guy that you've got to hold up at the highest pedestal. He may be the top of the remote Rushmore and Um, you know, just him being able to win. I think it's been four Super Bowls now, um, you know that speaks, you know, you know volumes. So, um, you know, I do, you know, have a lot of confidence in my skills and, you know, I think I'm at the highest level in elite level. At the game right now, and I can compete with all those guys, but a guy like him. You got to give him his respect, You know? All right, Mark Andrews. Let's talk about what happened in practice on Thursday. We all heard about it, and it just blew my mind just as a fan. Uh, that Gus Edwards and Marcus Peters both out with season ending knee injuries, that we're all, um, expecting here? What What can you tell me about practice? Walked me through where you were. What happened in practice? Both of them. I think for markets is one. It was towards the end, just like Gus is, but, uh, you know happened. Everyone saw it and kind of, you know, everyone kind of, you know, went quiet and stuff like that. It was one of those freak accidents and then I think it was a play later. Two plays later we flipped around. Um and then you see, Gus, go down. I was actually on the field for that one. And the same thing. A freak accident, man, So you know is It's one of those things where you don't expect that to happen, and it's part of the game. But, um, kind of back to back. Same practice in the stuff that we've been through all off season. Um, it just sucks, man. But at the same time you've got to pray for those guys keep their heads up and then keep our heads up, man. We got a great team that really deep team. That's what Baltimore is all about. Bringing a lot of great players in that can play football, so you need to count us out and you know, that's all right. But we're going to be hungry and ready to go. Well, Obviously, this comes on the heels of J. K. Dobbins also being out for the season. How How does that Potentially shake your team. I know you say you're you want to, You know, uh, use this. Potentially as, um, a stepping, I guess a way for you to move forward. But just in the moment, how do you as a team handles something like this? Yeah. You know it. You know JK again. It's It's tough, but, you know, um, as a team, um, and again as a running back group, we still have a lot of great guys. You know, the Tyshon is going to do going to do his thing, Man. He's bald out all preseason. Um, we got a lot of confidence in. We got a lot of confidence in the rest of the guys in that group. And in this offense and Lamar, um and so you know, there's not a lot of confidence lost in this team. You know, I'm saying so. We're going to be ready to go. You know, our hair is going to be on fire Monday night, ready to play Las Vegas Raiders man. That's what it's all about The coach, gather everyone around. Did somebody in the locker room? Talk about it? Or you just all just You know, have your quiet conversations and then, uh, strap on the chin strap and go. Yep. So you know, on the field kind of just said her prayer and the practice Just a couple plays early. Um, you know, said that prayer And then today, um we had a little meeting team meeting and just talking about. You know what's going on. Obviously, we're all extremely sad for those guys like I said, and that was reiterated, um But again, we're in a fighting mood, and that's kind of what you know, Harbaugh, you know, relate to us Is that, um, you know, we're you know, not backed up against the wall, but we're in a fighting mode. You know, people are counting us out. People are saying this and that you know we're having these injuries, but Um, you know, we got to be ready to go. We got a great team. We got a lot of great players, and we got a lot of fighters on this team. So that's what it's about. For us. Mark Andrews few minutes left here with the Baltimore Ravens. Pro Bowl tight end fresh With a new four year contract extension right here on the rich Eisen show. So what about the passing game? Can you tell us? Um, how dynamic can it be? This has been something that's been under the microscope microscope about stretching the field, putting points on the board fast. If you need to, as opposed to the grind it out method that your team is so famous for to protect a lead. What can you tell us about that market? Yeah, I think we've done a great job of Of one. We got a we brought in to really good. Um, you know, coaches when they're receiving receiving game and that a girl really complement zero and what is able to do, um You know, we've worked really hard this offseason OTAs and training camp and throwing the ball and you know we've We've really been clicking, so I think it's going to be dynamic. I know it's going to be dynamic. And, uh, you know, I'm excited to go out there Monday night against the Raiders be able to show the show the world we can do. Throw the ball around..

"All right back. Here we go. 20 minutes after the top of the air and you're at home with Gary Sullivan. Taking your calls were Garlow home Improvement. It's 808 238255. You can grab a line. Sheila. Welcome. Good morning. Morning. How are you? Good. Good. And you good. Just had a question. To see what your recommendation would be. Um, the home we lived in was built in the early sixties, so it's gotta crawl space underneath it, and we have a lot a lot of moisture in that house, especially in the kitchen in the bathroom. Uh um. So there's mold growing on the ceiling and and, um, on the kitchen Cabinet and I tried to clean and try. It just can't get rid of it. Um, so I don't know his wishes part with, you know to come. Look at it. Um, we have a moisture very underneath the house when you had new insulation blown into this, Um, rays are the addict. Mhm. At the Do you know what the humidity level inside your home is? Um, It's probably 60% and we've got to dehumidifiers were running and we're dumping those at least two that times a day. It's not three. Yeah. Um, it is a RCA Nisshin. Also, it is Mm. And his. How long have you lived in the house? Like I said, it was built in the early sixties. So it was my mom and dad's home, and we we lived in it after they passed away. So, um, has this always been an issue? I don't think it was an issue. I don't remember it being this way. When else growing up. I don't remember having this much community in the house, right? So I didn't know if when we had that extra installation blown in. And if that You know, mess anything up? No. Have you replaced an air conditioner? Anything replaced an air conditioner unit, But not um, all events. You know the air conditioner ducks? Yeah, right. But you You replace that air handler inside the house. Yet. And do you have a peak heat pump on the outside of the house? Yes, it's a heat. Uh, okay. And you replace both of those? Yes. How long you go? Did you replace those, Um About 89 years ago. Okay, so that didn't It doesn't feel like that precipitated this issue. No, I don't think so. Was it like this last year to just this? Yeah. Yeah, It's been that way. A couple years. Um And there's no bench that I see that come from the outside and the room so that I didn't know if that would be one thing, you know, like, um Any kind of ventilation. Well, yeah, So there's all kinds of things that are ventilated, You know, I mean, the attic is one and you use the soffit vents that hang over the edge of the roof. You bring in the outdoor air and you push the hotter outdoor air out of the ridge vent at the top. I'm uh, what kind of shape is that Cross space and I know you said you had a vapor bear. You're down. But is it wet in there? Does it smell kind of funny is it smells musky. I guess you wanted to. I don't crawl under there because there's thanks. I think that's your your question. Originally to me is where do you think it should start? Start across speaker or a contractor or no, I would probably, um I'd probably talk to somebody that does waterproofing. A lot of water proof furs. Do what they call, um cross space encapsulation. Uh huh. Because there's groundwater that could be seeping into the floor. You know, into the dirt. I guess it's not concrete. Is it Or is it? No. So it could be very moist down there. Sometimes you might even need to have a sump pump. Installed into the crawl space to lower the water table because it think it's real wet in there, and real, musty humidity works as a stack affect and we know we got excessive humidity because you've got to dehumidifiers running. Full time. And so once you get a stack of effect, it just keeps building and it goes from the lower area of the house to the first Florida the To the attic. I mean, it just keeps building on top of it. So okay. You know if you'd are your d meta fires downstairs near the cross spaces that where they're at well, it's only it's a one story home, but I've got one on each end of the house. Okay, and they're properly sized Yes, sir. And when you turn the air conditioner down low, maybe like down this, you know, 68 degrees or something. Does it? Knock that humidity in, you know in control, then? No, it doesn't. It's still the same. I mean, is saying And matter of fact, you know, you'll get up and they'll be, um, moisture on the windows. Yeah, I don't know where all this moisture is coming from. I really don't. That's an excessive amount of moisture, but I'm going to guess I would get a waterproof for over there. Take a look at that crawlspace. Let him give you a bid on that. And if you want at the same time, you can have a roof for come in and talk to him about ventilation in the attic. But again, I think the issue is going to be in the lower level. And if we can You know, I mean, there's all kinds of things that caused humidity. Cross spaces is a big culprit. Uh, unventilated, uh, bathrooms when you take a shower. If there's not a fan running for a half hour afterwards that throws a lot of moisture into the house. If you get that fan running in the vent pipe is laying on the insulation up in the attic that causes a whole bunch of problems. What the answer. You're not paying it out? Yeah. The answer your question. I mean, you could call Rufer. You could call across space person. You could call a heating and air conditioning guy and see if they can extend the run of the fan which you know, you turn that air conditioning down lower And regardless, you should. You should lower the humidity in that house. Okay, Because your your air conditioners your biggest, um, your biggest dehumidifier you got? Yeah. So you know again, I think I'd start with across space. Let them kind of assess if that could be the issue. And then maybe, you know if you want to call an H v A C company and see if there's something they can do to help draw some of that moisture out. I think.

"About a decade ago, I went to a well to do suburb north of Tel Aviv. To meet with a youngish Israeli politician whose name was Naftali Bennett. Showed up at his house and it was big. It was modern. It had flat screen TVs, and we sat outside, and he talked about his years in the software industry and working as a chief of staff. Benjamin Netanyahu. It was something pretty new in Israeli politics. He promised I wrote then. To build a sturdy electoral bridge between the religious and the secular, the hilltop outpost of the West Bank and the startup suburbs. Then it was fluent in Facebook, he quoted sign felt as much as he did the books of the Talmud. And he had been a leader of the settlers, but he no longer lived in a settlement. If there was no ambiguity at all about Bennett stance on the Palestinian question, he was a hard liner. He disdained the peace process of an earlier time. To make sure they never get a state. He told me no more illusions. Naftali Bennett is now the prime minister of Israel, having unseated Benjamin Netanyahu, who is the longest running prime minister in the history of the state. Last week, I reached out to two riders in the region, one Palestinian and one Israeli to talk about this political upheaval. Ruth, How are you? How's it going? Good. How are you? I'm great. I'm fine. It's good. It's good to see you. Ruth Margolis lives in Tel Aviv, and she reports for the New Yorker from around the region. Now Ruth, the coalition that brought Naftali Bennett to power just now is all over the map politically, but he himself obviously is very hard line on the Palestinian question. The coalition loathes Netanyahu, but I'm not quite sure How anything is going to change where the Palestinian question is concerned, do you? I don't see how it's going to change, at least not in the short term. Um, I I think there are some promising signs in the sense that it's um You're right about my study. Bennett that he himself is very much a hardliner, but it's also an alliance. You know, he only won seven seats out of 120, so he's really reliant on these other factions. Among them are, you know, two left wing parties and we have for the first time ever and then Israeli government we have in our Arab party. Um, so there are these sort of promising kind of cautiously promising size. But you're right. I mean, well, you know, will the life of a Palestinian family living in Gaza change next week, because, um, Netanyahu is no longer in power. And then it is. No, the answer is no, not yet in this change also comes in the context. Of a yet another conflict in which there was rocket fire and then and bombing from Israeli fighter jets and hundreds dead, mostly Palestinians. And this has had an effect on Palestinian politics, and it's also had had an effect on Palestinian Arabs in Israel and you've reported on this. Tell us what's changed. Well, I think for the first time in a long time, we're seeing this kind of, um, cross Palestinian sort of solidarity movement. You know, until now, whenever there were tensions in Gaza in other places, it didn't necessarily mean that things would sort of spark up in the West Bank or in east Jerusalem. Um, and inside Israel. Not at all. You know, I mean, occasionally, but this was very rarely the case. Palestinian citizens of Israel who are known in Israel, that sort of Arab Israelis. They never really joined this kind of pan Palestinian movement, Um and and now they they have, and I think, partly because you know Netanyahu after a decade more than a decade in power. Made life really, very untenable for them inside Israel for these Arab Israelis, and so there's a deep sense of frustration and despair. Um, and we saw the sparks of that Now, On the other hand, you can say Well, you know earlier, I just said that we have an Arab party joining the government for the first time. So how does that Doesn't that mean that suddenly there's sort of integrating and are taking part in political life. But I think this Arab parties and joined the coalition isn't really speaking about a two state solution or any kind of solution for that matter. And they're sort of talking about getting budgets passed, you know, making life inside the Arab cities and villages. Um, safer. Um, there's a deep sense in which, after all of these Netanyahu years People inside Israel and maybe outside of it have kind of lost hope for a peaceful resolution. Even though I think it's not. It's not just put it, but and yet, And yet the shift seems On both sides of the green line toward a greater obstinance greater radicalization. I think the last round of escalation in Gaza was really a turning point. Um I think courage of what is really frustrating about these years of Netanyahu's rule and kind of this rightward shift. He kind of made it sounds crazy, but he made Hamas sort of kosher in a sense. Have you been outside of Israel? Well, in the sense that you know that the despair itself is so immense. And the pictures coming out of the guys that we're just incredibly, um, just heartbreaking for everyone to watch. It was almost as though Hamas was seen as a kind of reasonable alternative. And of course they're not, you know, And then, from my perspective, you know, I've also seen the great damage that they've caused Hamas and the You know the suicide bombings inside Israel of the nineties that have now been replaced by Rocket fire and other um, you know, I mean, I think I think it points to a real crisis if that's the alternative sort of Palestinian movement that is on the right now. It never seems to get better. And um seems only to get worse and at the same time to be only fitfully paid attention to in recent years. I think that's true. But can I also say that maybe something now? Actually this, you know something is shifting in Israel, and I think we have to give it time. And maybe there would be. Maybe there will be signs of hope. I don't know yet, but suddenly something is happening here. So it's worth it's worth paying attention to Hi, Roger..

"About love as we head into this Valentine's Day from dating out in the wild to dating in the wild. What kind of wild Let's call it Wild adjacent here in L. A Let me take you back to appease the flowers and the trees in the booth. Whether it's a mountain lion, braving a so Cal freeway to find a mate. Snails looking for love, Pandemic or not, animals are going to find a way to get down and procreate. Layla Higgins, a senior manager for Community science of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. She is our our Dr Ruth of the animal and Creature world. Hey, Leela, Steve. When I call your doctor Leela. Without the threat, of course. Yeah, you can. You can give me a promotion, will you? I want you to read that bit from your book Wild Ella about snails having sex because it sounds actually sounds pretty good. This was one of my favorite pieces, too, Right? Okay. We ready? Yes. Like other snails. The common Garden snail is a hermaphrodite, which means has both male and female sex organs. What a pair comes together each harpoons the other with a loved art. Which introduces hormones to induce meeting. To reproduce. They intertwine their bodies and extend their penises from behind their heads to exchange sperm. Meeting can take anywhere between four. 12. Hours four and 12 hours. There's there's so much crazy stuff in the animal world, Doctor Leela. When it comes to mating. So tell us tell us about the damsel fly. So damsel flies. Some people make it lit a fuse but Dragonflies, but basically they are like flying neon toothpick said. The really skinny ones that fly around often really brightly colored. We have neon blue ones around here. And when they're mating, you'll often see them paired up and creating this almost like wheel shape and even heart shaped and it's because their genitals are in weird positions. But here's the thing. Male Dragonflies can actually remove sperm from competitors from within the female and so it's called sperm competition or sperm displacement. So it's almost like a roto Rooter Penis and, um, then the male wants to make sure that no other males come around that it's his sperm that fertilizes the eggs. And so he guards. His mate takes her to the water, and that's where she lays her eggs while he's guarding her. I have so many questions, but let's let's move on there. There are more things to talk about here. Visa be love. In the Animal kingdom. Of course, here in Los Angeles. There are also mountain Lions mountain lines in the Santa Monica Mountains. As I mentioned at the outset, there have been sightings of them crossing freeways. To mate. Sadly, some of them died because they're hit by cars. Tell us Tell us about how they do that In this light as I mentioned wild adjacent L a Right. So, um, Mountain lions in the Santa Monica Mountains are very, uh, kind of cut off from their cousin. So to speak in the north because of the one on one freeway. So Rhodes a really hard for mountain lions to cross and we've observed mountain lions, um, crossing freeways like using underpasses using overpasses. And sometimes literally running across traffic. That's when we we see them because they get hit, and then they die. So this is something that we don't want to see. Um Researches through the National Park Service and Miguel Order. Nana from my museum have been doing a lot of work and mountain lions. And so we know that one Mount Line P 12 because they would have GPS collar We know that they were able to cross a new male in the population is really good. Apparently, the biologists were like, Let's pop some champagne. Because that means that he will have new genetic material to breed with the others. There's actually an example of a mountain lion that has successfully made it from one part of town to another. Almost like, you know, loading up a moving van and moving from Well, where was he? He was he was He was in the valley, right? And then he found his way to Griffith Park. Talk about P 22. This is this is who we know is the Brad Pitt of Mountain Lions. Right? Soapy 22 is our, you know, Poster boy, so to speak. Mountain lines. He not only crossed the water one freeway twice. He also crossed the four or five freeway And if any of us have sat in traffic on those for you is we know how busy they are on blade all the way to Griffith Park, So he was successful. He was able to cross those freeways. But now he's a lonely bachelor. He is in Griffith Park. He's got plenty of deer to eat, but he doesn't have a mate. Um, which again shows that he's gonna have a lonely Valentine's Day like maybe some of us during the pandemic. We're with U P 22. But it shows how important of wildlife Crossing is. And all in the name of love, Leela on bro creation. Of course. Leela Higgins, Senior manager for Community Science of the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Leela, are Dr Leela. Thanks. Thanks so much, Steve. Well to wrap up the show on love in anticipation of Valentine's Day we asked you this question on Social media. How has the pandemic changed Your love life? Have you dared dared to date or dare I say hook up during the pandemic and are managing producer Christian portal joins us right now, with some of the answers a Christian Hey there, Steve. So what if people have to say about whether whether they've been looking for love during a pandemic? Well, as you might imagine, the answers were kind of a mixed bag. We did get a bunch of people just saying No hell, no another variations on that theme. Then there were people like pinch a hand who said I met someone because they had a viral tic tac and we've been dating for three months now, l Pata said. They're back with an old girlfriend, but not like a couple. The bag said. It's hard dating now when you're an extra vote and genuinely enjoy in person connections, Julie says my boyfriend I met on a nap during the pandemic. And so in. Miriam says yes. Met someone back in October on hinge, and we're still dating. But sory to Blanquita says No. It's been almost a year now with an anguished emoji face. Niobe says yes, but it's awkward, confusing and unnecessarily intense. Engineer says yes, but only with someone who's been on the same page as far as following covert protocols. Max Aholic says tried dating online that zoom data awkward at best in a slog worst that Lucy Gal has a happy tale. Ironically, I found the love of my life after the pandemic it so I guess there's hope out there, Steve even during the pandemic, even during the pandemic? Yeah, the question. Of course. I mean, finding love is finding love right? You can find it and If you could do it safely, but Certainly a challenge. Isn't it? Christian? Absolutely. Kcrw's Christian board all Christian as always, Thank you. Sure a time. Steve. By the way, we love you. We really do. We hope the feeling's mutual. Thanks for being with us. Thanks for your ear. And for your time today I'm Steve to take us Have yourself a great day. I love.

A little A little A little classically. Yeah, Like my legs. Move a little bit. You know, that's right. Thought just a little bit. Then I thought, OK. I'm gonna be honest, like I'm gonna be on flat land on him, and it's just gonna be and I'll be able to look at trees. I'll be able to look at mountains I'll be able to, you know, enjoy nature. And it's none of that. It's absolutely other than nature, which I can't look at, because I'm too busy looking down to make sure that my feet are going where my feet should be going. Many It was a very broad, um Cross section of America, and it was exactly what President Trump's a peaceful and patriotic and We are way were there from 06 were there from the time they started the open the gate. And had been there all day. President Trump got there late. Um, here's first started living Christ are about 11, 40 45 or so And he spoke. I've listened everything he's ever said He spoke extra long. We were actually at that point. Um, thinking, you know, it was really time to wrap it up and then toward the end of the speech He says. I understand that soon you're gonna march down peacefully and patriotic. Lee stand on the steps of the Capitol. And basically celebrate American the process. And that was it. We won't know Constitution we saw especially my my experience. In front of Trump's hotel down there. There were probably 15, maybe 20 police officer's shoulder to shoulder And I was walking there a custom and told how glad we were that you were there that were there. They will keep us safe. And thank you. But every other ones give me a bar. You know, you bra on s. Oh, there were some some former Marines in there and, uh, Very quiet, Very peaceful. I'm not a Marine, but I'm on Air Force veteran and Went there based on principle and I listen to the speech as well as Philip. I'll Add what Philip said to, um, a lot of agents. A lot of Vietnamese, not Chinese, who Say that what they're seeing happening Our countries is what was happening in the countries that came from Vietnam, China. And so that was pretty scary time for them to see that America's changing like this, but Go into the speech. I didn't feel No part of the speech made me feel violent or destructive or wanting to hurt someone because we're there for principle. It's a principle of the election was stolen. We think there's you know, we believe there's proof of that. We just want you to take another 10 days and please look at the information that we have here. "Is from the Hyde Park Prescribed burn. Oh, Mommy about 132 Acres will be out soon. If you're heading towards Los Alamos or has been Euler charm and you see, smoke is also prescribed Burn a bigger one about 500 acres up up near Hema Springs. No forest fires other than ones that our plan my route planning. It's impossible. Joined now by the executive director in Mexico Activity Association selling Marquez Shelly. Welcome to the show. Thank you for joining us today. Thank you for having me. Okay. Um, your job is this is impossible. Is the superintendent of education or running a ski resort or business or anything else is like you plan for one thing. It all changes 24 hours later. So exactly right. Whatever we talked about today could go out the window, You know, 12 hours from now. But what's the latest on high school sports? Our board of directors met yesterday and we're trying to be proactive. As you see, the numbers in cases are rising and the situation we are in New Mexico that our first count of the counter that we're at right now and performing in is a January 4th start date for basketball, swimming and diving and spirit. And as we saw cases going up, we realized that that might be unrealistic. And so we wanted to make sure we're proactive. On Dworkin with the governor's office and the board of directors to have a calendar that we may be able to do actually do. We did you know, in the fall fall sports started, and then they started practicing and and then, basically, the rug was pulled out from under under him that they couldn't play. And we didn't want that to happen this year in January 4th but those athletes, so we wanted to be proactive and make sure that we were doing what was best and giving them some warning if they're not going to be able to play in January, so thus, the board of directors did vote on a new calendar. That will begin on February 1st with what's which sports and why do you pick those sports? Well, what we did is we do see that a contact endorsed sport is problematic. And that is basketball. Um, so we were very concerned that maybe that wouldn't go because of the environment that it is the end, even if the mask wearing there still there still contact. And so we felt like the outdoor sports and like such as, UM cross country football, soccer may be able to get going in February. On Dat would be an easier chance for them to go instead of the contact Indoor sport. You know, in the window at this time with our case counts is going up. Swimming is indoor indoor sport. That is correct. We did move that as well. So basically the counter, um football practice would begin on February. 1st and competitions start mid February for volleyball. Andre football. Forming and diving is a winter sport. So what you see in the calendar, you're going to see the fall sport. Beginning in February or beginning of March, and then you're going to see the winter sports after that, so all swimming and diving and basketball has been moved to the end of the march time period to start. Will there ever be high school wrestling? We still have it on the calendar. We do know it's it's a little bit more problematic, but we have it kind of in a We have it in a tweener spot between winter and spring. We really believe that we need to give it a little bit more time. Get going because the contact nature of that sport, So we have always been concerned about wrestling in the calendar before this one that was voted on. We had wrestling all the way back. April the June to give it a little bit more time. But we have moved it a little bit. Um Um, towards the march beginning, April time period. Excuse my ignorance. Sally. Do high schools have boys volleyball or only gold girls volleyball? We only have girls volleyball in the state of New Mexico. Um, that's in endorse sport in that is scheduled for when I mean, screamingly popular. I mean, a lot of kids play right? That is one of our most popular female sports and and that's scheduled to begin in the middle of February. Now the difference between volleyball and basketball is the contact. It's a no contact sport. With volleyball and mask wearing and it even though it's indoors, But it's no contact and basketball's a contact sport. And so that is why we really believe that we would be able to play volleyball before we could be able to play the sport of basketball. Sally Marquez is our guest, executive director of New Mexico Activity Association runs all high school sports. You mentioned spirit that's cheerleading right? That would also start in January. Yeah, it's both. It's spoke cheer and dance. And that was supposed to start in January. But that has also been shifted. Um two? Yes, two A April May and people wouldn't realize that actually cheer. Is considered a high risk sport. I would think so and because they are cut their closeness to each other. They're lifting each other. You know the stunting portion So we have moved that back. They are really We consider them a winter sport. So they are in that time frame there with the basketball in the swimming and diving as well. Maybe could offer we could start it now, if you don't do any of that, you just stand in a line in a boom boom boom with your pom poms kick. You know, none of that. None of that lifting none of the gymnastics just All right? Probably not a good idea right now. Well, right now we're in our pod situation. So everybody's working out in 4 to 1 pot. And so the cheerleaders and the dancers are very used to right now. Not stunning and, um, social distancing, so that's what they've been doing. All all throughout this year. You know the good thing about your job, Sally, is that whatever you decide, there's no pushback from parents or athletes, right? Everybody accepts your decision. Not even your board. Accept your decision. Um you know what? I have a wonderful job and working for the school than in Mexico and Athletic directors, superintendent administrators are just fantastic. All the coaches and And so it is a difficult position you're in. And and, um But, um, you know when you when you look at those kids, um and wanting to play and and just so much education based athletics does for kids. You know, it's it's a situation where you're we're not going to give up. These kids need athletics and activities and we're not going to give up until we are able to play again. Yeah, it's gonna be safe. But when it is safe, I mean sports. All of that is great for kids. It's great keeps a lot of kids. In school, and it gives them discipline and it said carrot, you know You gotta get good girl. Good grades. You gotta Denham. Behave yourself. If you want to stay in sports. Now there have been programs like Kansas City, Kansas, where they have said. Well, hell with you guys, You know, like your position and said we were gonna worry and take our kids were moved to a different district so our kids can cheer which I think is just absolutely irresponsible. But I mean, even the president of your board said. Why can't drive Because he's in Hobbs? I can drive 10 Miles and I can watch high school sports in Texas. That's.

Is considered a high risk sport. I would think so and because they are cut their close knit to each other. None of that lifting. None of the you know, gymnastics just All right? Probably not a good idea right now. Well, right now we're in our pod situation. So everybody's working out in 4 to 1 pot. And so the cheerleaders and the dancers are very used to right now. Not stunning and, um, social distancing, so that's what they've been doing. All all throughout this year. Now, the good thing about your job, Sally, is that whatever you decide, there's no pushback from parents or athletes, right? In school, and it gives them discipline and it's that carrot, you know. You got to get good grades. You gotta Denham. Behave yourself. If you want to stay in sports. Now there have been programs like Kansas City, Kansas, where they have said, Well, hell with you guys, You know, like your position and said we were gonna worry and take our kids were moved to a different district. So our kids can cheer, which I think is just absolutely irresponsible. But I mean, even the president of your board said, Why can't drive Because he's in Hobbs? I can drive 10 Miles and I can watch high school sports in Texas. That's the problem, right?.

"We find that a lot of products will see the lowest prices they've ever been the entire year. I'm joined by Perseus. Spoon fed A. He is the debates editor, the deal's editor for Business Insiders review team, and We're talking about some of the deals this holiday season. How do you advise people to navigate the deals because it could be overwhelming. You know, if you're shopping for product, you're going on a couple different websites, checking out the different prices. The deals. It could be a lot. Is there a way to simplify it? Yes, Absolutely. So the first thing is you have to make a budget like right now a lot of people struggling, so it's really important to have a game plan. Um, you know, Brown's around shop around like, um, cross reference of prices. Look at what Best buy's offering. We could target is offered. Check out what Wal Mart at Amazon are checking Exciting, really rewards those who do the legwork beforehand. Um, for instance, us at the inside of abuse team. We've been tracking discounts and deals since The beginning of the month. Since when Prime they happened, so it really helps to have a plan. Is there a certain category of gifts or products that typically have the bigger savings attached to them this time of the year? Sure. I mean, when you think about black Friday, you think Elektronik think TVs laptops you think video game consoles. Those are always going to find really great deals. But you can also find amazing deals for kitchen goods like microwaves, ovens, instant pot of kitchen, a mixers. All of those things will go on sale. One thing I would say during black fighters look out for gift card bonuses, Um, target best buy. A lot of these retailers will give you $100 death part and add a $20 credit on top of that, so If you do your research and kind of create a grand work for the deals, I mean, you could save a lot more money that way. Now do you have to give the extra gift card as a gift? Or is that one day even kind of keep for yourself? I mean it really. It's up to you that off course, like, you know, it's always nice to give but you know You should have. You should treat yourself sometime during this black Friday Exactly. I'm joined by Perseus Proof Ed, a deal's editor for Business insiders reviews team. So where you seeing the hottest deals so far? What are some of the products of the items and some of the retailers that are offering up just the best deals to this point? Shirt. So, Asai said, before we have seen so many deals throughout the entirety of black Friday, Flash November, Um, we've seen Air Padres usually sell for $250 seasons. Those fancy airpods pro locks people want They dropped all the way down to $170 during black Friday and Ah lot of retailers are matching that that's a that there will be a recurring theme. Once you start shopping around is that Ah lot of retailers will price match competitors. So if you see a good deal somewhere like a target, but you see that it's sold out. Make sure to check its competitors. There are more like they are very likely to have price match and you could have a second chance at a really great deal. And then what about these different apse? Where they say that you can get you know money back or you can score points or whatever. If you shop threw them. There are certain benefits that are added on are those good APS to utilize during this holiday season? If you're doing a lot of shopping Sure. So here's what I'll say. I think it's more important for shoppers to Do a little bit of research on what credit card serving six certain credit cards to give you 5% back form or depending on which retailer to use them with. So I think in terms of Getting the best deals using the right credit card using it. If you want certain, like extended protection would be the best way of doing things. But of course, they're also websites that will curate deals for you, for instance. It's a business insider, been working around the clock to find the best deals. I've actually been awake since one o'clock in the morning today, working through that, so like you're coming at me from like, you know, the tail end of my shift, but like Lots of good deals are happening right now. It's really great time to be a shock. And then final question for you. Black Friday Cyber Monday Are there better deals on cyber Monday than black Friday? Should people hold off a couple of days? Or are they basically the same and hasn't really all kind of morphed into one because so much of it is online. See, that's a really good question. Um, Historically, we've found that his cyber Monday has more deals. But as like the years have gone on cyber Monday became cyber week and then this year has changed everything. So, um, Here is how you should Pakal Black Friday and cyber Monday. If you see a good deal jump on it, ask questions later, because this year one of the best things for shoppers to do is just take advantage of a deal and then Lot of retailers are like widening the return windows. So real your consumer power and return What we don't meet. Okay, That's an interesting approach to all of it to see a spoon fed A. That's why we had John deals. Editor for Business insiders reviews Team jerseys. Thanks so much for the time we appreciate it Great insight. Good. Every issue morning. I was actually on Perseus is Twitter account a little while ago, And the Airpods thing was interesting, because I mean, he lined it all up and explains how they reached their lowest price point of the year. Plus,.

"To those who did go to the party because they're out circulating as people do. So I think when you look at this back to your point is what got me on this When you look out these different establishments, I'm talking about restaurants that are down to 50% capacity 25% capacity. It has to be completely outdoors. Whatever it might be there, actually. According to many experts, and we talked about this before. There's um cross currents on this. They're not the place that everybody's picking it up. Even though of all the institutional setups, that's the one where it would make sense that they do have the most positive test related back. They take their masks off. People do when they're dining and they're in the dining establishment. For longer. They're indoors, but The point is made by those who run. Those establishments were used to having to follow state licensing guidelines in many, many ways generally. We run cleaner businesses and were able to make sure the social distancing continues because our license is on the line. So I think this is this is a really tough area. But anyway, back to your point, I suspect down in l A, though they'll shut stuff. They'll start shutting stuff down. You can't You know, you can't just live with these numbers, right? "Rockso, which is abandoning firm. But Marla has done a lot of work on diversity and the value of diversity beyond the obvious. Two businesses. So, Marlo welcome and thank you for joining us first, just a little bit about yourself and how you found it, Axl. Hi. How are you guys? Thank you for having me So I I said Iraq's a with my partner and husband in 2015. And we have grown too now. 28 people, two offices, one in New York and one in one out side of Argentina. On DH. Yeah, Diversity's You know, it's part of us who we are, Um, so super excited about talking a little bit more like, Yeah, yeah. Love to. So Marla's. So when you talk to your clients here, what do you tell them about diversity? Is it Is it in the workplace, the board level dealing with their customers. What are some of the key topics? You guy's address? I mean, right now, as the landscape is changing, right, very rapidly. Company trying to like Kill, you know, trying, Tio. Bill or Train, more 60 issue and that starts from you know some wit from within. Still, diversity is not just like hiring someone and letting them Hiring one person to change their culture. It has to come from within the culture, right? So they're our friends, different exercises that we take a within marketing to be able to help. On bad regard. How difficult do you find it is to convince owners that itjust haven't you know, already done this So many owners of business. We just wouldn't even think twice that diversity would just be a part of the beginning of the business. But there definitely are some We saw them being called out on the likes of Instagram and so on over You know, the BLM movement and protests. And it was quite shocking actually, to see some of these daily names. You know products from whom I have in my home being called out for being non diverse and not interested in diversity. Have you come across that obstacle? And how do you Break that down. So quick story. Um, 11 client reached out maybe a month ago, afraid of big tech company and they reach out crossing that they wanted a multicultural agency on DH that we weren't perfect. Right? So then, from one aspect, right? We want through. Way, usually in agencies. You pay it and you send your back work, right? Like your work, And then they started asking for more things on more things. And then at the end, they went with three white Agencies. No, no diversity at all. So it does happen, and it happens often, but I would say that, you know Or movement in progress continues to happen. It's just something that they will have to deal with, right because every precautions will be for consumers. Not Teo wanted business anymore, or Everything is shifting. And I think that, uh, ethically as ah As a nation, and as you know, humans are shifting toward more diverse and inclusive. It's not. The diversity is included. Not being able to invite everyone to the party. Not just some Marla. Are there some industries, I guess across your experience some industries that tend to be more receptive to this concept of diverse diversity and kind of how they go about their business on a daily basis. Absolutely. I feel that within attack, um it's very included within again if younger companies that are That are founded based on on those kind of on that kind of culture. So with intact you see, you see that a law that they're more diverse, I think All across, Um Cross media like there. There are it's a muse Diversity annual sustainability, right. So now every company wants to have a sustainable plan and anything included on all of the procurement thinking is happening now. In a different basis with diver sever. It's just, you know, we need to, like, add more people and more voices across the board, and so did I. I mean, that's that's great and everything, Marlon. But is there any danger that that's just a fad or a phase and that in a couple of years time Things will go back to the way they were or have there been measures put in place to make sure that these changes in companies are self sustaining. Well, That's something that I never afraid ofthe right and said that it's just a trend. So we are so racks of 30 and initiative called at culture. And what it is we we are, eh? Working are calling out and not just calling out after But you know, like we're adding, We're adding a group in list of minority own agencies because we see less than 5% off the top 100. Independent agencies are minority all And so you know, there's a huge got there, so we want to do. What we want to do is kind of You know, Half corporations really pledge amount of marketing sense to these minority Only, you know that company so that you can have that across the board on, but it's not just like a one time thing. It's just It's just an initiative that really that they change from within. That's starting. And Yeah, that's great. We re pushing. I'd let it go there at a time. Marla Gonzalez, thank you so much founder Of rack. So talking about diversity in the advertising business right now, let's head down to Washington, D. C..

I won't allow this terrain and artillery is very, very spotty in the positions where you can place it. So this one instance he actually had a spot where he did get some break shot out. Forcing Marion's men back and allowed him to get across the river. But so at re at a cost of approximately 20 dead or wounded, right, Maron's using the terrain he's using the swamp. Thank you. Okay, let's go to Leander. Hey, Ed. How's it going out there? Good morning. I'm doing well, thanks. Thank you for taking my call. I'm but we bought a couple of high viscous plants about three weeks ago months ago and put them in a pot. Use the appropriate you know, soil that the destruction of use, But one of them started flowering pretty quickly, and then it has stopped. And the other one is not flowering at all. I mean, the bugs. They're there, but they're not maturing. So I was wondering if you could give me any advice on that. Well, when you first transplant you say you put him into pots. Did you put him into a lot bigger pots and they were in when you bought him. Not that much bigger bread that they need to be gradually grown, and well, that was good advice right there. So really, what they're doing is they're just working on their root system. And they will. As soon as I get happy and get that root system established, they'll probably start blooming right away. Now it would not hurt you to give them a good drench of something like has to grow or one of those time release organic fertilizers made for flowers. But they don't really have to have any special soil And even if they did, even if you put him in an acidic soil, our water is so alkaline and but everybody in town has hibiscus, so that should not be a problem for you. I don't think they they don't have to have acidic soil. And so what about? We did put some of the has to grow on it One time. So what is the frequency of that? And how much should we be watering them? Well, you might have to water him every day. How bigger these billions. About 18 inches tall. Yeah, well, depending on what kind of soul you used in those parts if it drains really fast, a lot of times when it's 100 out there You got a water every day in container plants, So don't you know I'm viscous can usually take it. So which want to do is just what I've been telling everybody else this morning is thick your hand down in there. On DH, see what the water level is, like, You know, Go ahead, water it let it So then maybe the next morning. You stick your hand down in there and see if it needs it again because There. They'll let you know in the morning. If they're wilted in the morning, then they probably need water right away. No plant when it's 100 can keep up with. You know this of Apple transpiration, So a lot of plans will wilt in the afternoon. This time of year doesn't necessarily mean anything. If you go out there in the morning, and there will did that mean something. Okay. And then loud question. We're clearing Samaria to plant more things. But we're thinking that we should probably wait till the weather is cooler. What do you think about that? Well as a landscaper. I plant pretty much year round, but you know, I'm not gonna lie. You're going to have to watch it a lot more carefully. I mean, you can't just plan a bunch of stuff and then go to Europe for a month and you know, leave. Leave it. If you have an irrigation system that's.
