"Remember that rocket mortgage can let's go to the phone lines to be joined by a good friend of mine. His name is killed, dance be he covers boxing for ESPN. Why we're talking to him. Is get this. Today there's a youtuber fighting a former UFC fighter. And the Youtuber is favored. Minus 1 60 right now in Vegas for Jake Paul and his fight today against been aspirin Who is getting plus? 1 40 kill what is going on here? I'm still trying to figure out if we can really qualify. This is a boxing man. Like Is this really a boxing event, and I'm here for it. But he's more of a spectacle of days. The coming event is technically a Justin Bieber concert. We gotta be careful how pieces is fired to be fair, though. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Listen, I'm here for all the shenanigans. I'm not knocking it. It's just this is something of a different breed. But when we come down to the betting line Sound, and that's big. Paul found arguably the worst striker in M M. A Might see an enemy history. Ben Aspirin, Amazing wrestler. He was undefeated until he hit the USC held belts and multiple motions. All he did was wrestle. And now that's taken away from him. He has to throw a punch, and I'm telling you, there is no shot. This man is good at boxing zero Khanna McGregor was barely good at boxing. He's one of best strikers USC has ever seen. No chance of an aspirin could throw hands in the boxing ring. Okay, So what are the rules for this fight? Because I typically know the rules for boxing. But the last time I watch something like this, it was like Mike Tyson and Roy Jones couldn't hit each other passing certain PS I They only fought for, like 92 seconds around. They had to apologize if they hit one person too hard. It was a lot of rules the last time One of the rules for this fight. There's no rules to this fight. Okay, So this photo So you're telling me we're gonna watch a 15 round Rocky three level match. Here's what we're expected. This isn't an exhibition. You want to get crazy. This is sanctioned. Oh, real flight. This is like honest to God going on someone's record. Jake Paul is actually to know as a professional boxer. This fight would actually qualify him if one of the sanctioning bodies wanted to become a mandatory challenger for a real belt because he had three rain wind, he can fight for real title if he wanted to in his next fight. But yeah, we're getting eight rounds. Madness in that ring, a three minute rounds professional rules. Knockdowns count. We saw happen in a Robinson Robinson was thinking like you. He thought he had Tyson rules. He went in there like, you know, he was a mean we haven't seen makes sense. Literally mates been gone since so right now been asking about it, Take it as seriously as big Paul. Okay. How serious of a fighter is Jake Paul? Because I did see Jake Paul fight Nate Robinson. And he did give Nate the beats. We all saw. I mean, we all saw the Lion King symbol mean Get up, Craig, Get up, Craig, it didn't look good for Nate Robinson. But he's at least fighting somebody who is trained in combat, whose jaw might not be made out of glass. The way the Nate Robinson is. How serious how good of a fighter is this Jake Paul character That's a loaded question way don't know how good he is. We know that he trained He's a good if someone could be when they have unlimited money. You know, pretty much respected to his age and what he wants to do in his life. He has enough fun to not work or do anything else besides wake up and box every day for the past two years. YouTube has afforded him, Mac. He's as close as we're going to get to like Batman, where someone is just really rich, and then they decide to learn how to fight. Except this isn't a comic book, so I don't know how good he is. But he's not fighting someone who's very good at all. At this point, then ask him couldn't throw a punch as well as me and you They should just not what he does. It's ugly. It's kind of if you look back on it. It's like watching Rhonda Rousey throw punches and everyone's like something doesn't look right there. And then she had to throw Andrew like, Oh, Yeah, she's not good at that. Only arm bars that's been asking sheep. He cannot throw punches so he could take a punch. Maybe Gig. Paul doesn't have power. But now he's £190. So Jake Paul actually has some power behind his punches, asked her was getting hit by people in USC at £170. That's a big difference. And let's not forget Jorge Mas. I don't need him in the face, knocking about in five seconds, so he's Tim isn't like perfect of history. It's been touched before. Right now we're talking to kill Dansby tonight, Jake Paul, Very prominent. Youtuber may be the most popular Youtuber is fighting former UFC athlete. I don't know if calling him former UFC stars. Fair enough have been asked her and they're fighting today. The youtuber is a minus 1 60 favorite against been aspirin. Who was that? Plus 1 40. What are you expecting in terms of buzz and interest, Because the last time you and I talked about one of these fights on trailer, it included Mike Tyson, who still is one of the 20 most popular athletes in American sports. It got 1.6 million views. I think I saw there were only like four paper views that had done better than Tyson versus Roy Jones. Obviously, it's not that level of star power, but To younger people. Jake Paul is one of the more prominent athletes are celebrity. So what are you expecting? In terms of interest? What are you expecting? In terms of buys for this event? I think a lot of people watched the event right, like because again, it's bands probably 15 year old all the way up through six year olds who actually like boxing. We're just intrigued. That Watching the circus go down and seeing what's gonna happen, So you get to cross and then may fans with boxing fans with YouTube and social media fans. There's a lot of good cross promotion. A lot of people will see it. The problem is dig. Paul. Being an Internet star means that his fans are pretty Internet savvy. So how many of them have to really pay for an event like this? If we're being honest, so I'm not sure how many buys it does, but I think it's gonna get a lot of eyes or break social media records. There's a knock out or to be huge and will be trending worldwide and Look really, really big. I'm not sure if the numbers match it now, If he goes out there, he put anything over a bill. Paper view buys..

"Out there for you to catch TV Fu Bo. I tried that. Baseball. Has made it now, Maura difficult to watch your game in a more modern way. So baseball there still some growing pains. There's still some things that they need to do. But when you look at the MBA and their approach, they've made it very I would say, user friendly washing games on your phone getting highlights very quickly the ability to share their picking up on LFTs and top shot. I mean, the MBA has always been a sort of modern current and hip game. Not really what baseball's been But Rob Manfred, I would say against the push of some purists and traditionalist when it comes to the game has been a We gotta change. So I say, Keep going. Had a pitch clock. Adapt your local blackout rules B'more. Friendly towards streaming and not penalizing people for sharing highlights and repackaging your game and a younger audience. Look at what boxing's doing. Boxing is going toe where young people are. Young people are watching things on their phone. So let's create content for that. Baseball needs to do the exact same thing. And be in the business of creating constant for younger audience on their phones on their mobile devices on their computer. That's how you continue to grow the game. I think we see that baseball fans weren't as They were as resistant to change is maybe we made them out to be Because I don't hear a lot of pushback on the extra inning rule. I don't hear a lot of pushback. On the two The seven inning double headers, which are good for the game. It's good for the pace of the game. It's great for the players. So tonight we have. I hate to use the term Marquis boxing event, but I think tomorrow people will be surprised at the paper view number. That it's going to get I think we're seeing a million buys. I think tomorrow when you get on the computer And you are updating your cellphone. Whatever social media, I think we'll find out that over a million people paid to watch, a youtuber and a UFC fighter and an exhibition bout. Which goes to tell you that the sport is very healthy and very vibrant, and you'll continue to Seymour people attempt to capitalize on that kind of success that have any level of.

Pd's again crowd and he's going to be suspended again or he's going to be left in limbo again so with john jones man. You don't know exactly what you're going to be given an jones diaz. These guys are all over thirty. Two the one guy gets out on you. I is late twenties or he's just thirty years old. I mean there's somebody that maybe the ufc can build around but we're talking about a black man with african descent from who's living in new zealand. The style bender is great. The style benders awesome. But let's let's be real here and let's keep it real if you're going to market someone to folks in this country. He's gotta be the best way to do that is to be american. Be thank goodness. He speaks english very good. English sees gotta have charisma though delta has that be he's gotta be fight friendly in terms of his style to to watch definitely got that. But here's a guy who's blacker the night and he's not from the united states. So what are we going to deal with that amen. I'm just keeping a real. I'm just being real. So what are we going to do with that. Especially when you take a look at this history of the ufc and you take a look at the recent superstars amen look. They did a great job before they did. "Mcgregor look back and see the pathway and see the road that he has to travel to get where he was that night to get where. He wasn't a position where he was as a crossover superstar as a public figure as a person of high caliber of interest five years ago when he defeated out eddie alvarez. Msg does he take a look at that and say man i i don't i don't have that anymore. I can't dedicate myself to do what i did to get in a position that are. I was five years ago because of my al because of my my brand because of my father because of other responsibilities i just don't i just don't have the time inclination and again. Thirty two is not twenty five in the lightweight division. The welterweight division man. There's some tough tough hungry guys out there. So they're all young kind of a gregory's whereas can get guess. What color fatherhood and all that stuff that you will now. I want to get to where you are starting to jury. And now i'm that young young lion that hungry lion that looking to eat doubling to do anything say anything put myself through torture up do what it takes to get to the level of success that you have come mcgregor's not gonna go back reach for that again thirty two years old hundred twenty million dollars worth of the bank. Come on man with motivation. What's your motivation. Mcgregor for coming back. What's the motivation for. Getting back in the octagon is the situation. Because you're to is an eagle wide because without the ufc without that platform to perform you have to look in the mirror and say exactly. What am i what is it. How much of a motivating factor in mcgrath is a Mcgregor one in terms of revenge for the first ufc fighter to kale. How much is that of a motivation. Compared to only be lightweight champion again you can find some motivation in revenge. You can find some other motivation. And say dan man you know what this guy not me up. Something tells me that. I don't know about the motivation. Because if you have to go back to get so heated and dealing so angered about dust. Emporia putting the info on blast in terms of you not yet killing a check for that foundation. If that's going to be the thing that's gonna put you over. That's going to be the thing that gets you motivated. If that's going to be the thing that's going to fire you up. Hey man you're fighting dustin pori.

"Sixteen conor mcgregor will never be as high conor. Mcgregor will never be as popular conor. Mcgregor will never be a famous conor mcgregor as far as an enemy fighter far. The accomplishments are concerned. This is it. This is the top of the mountain. This is as far as he'll go. This is how high the conor mcgregor will reach right here. This is it that was again almost five years ago november twelfth two thousand and sixteen at two zero five. Ufc two will find that night synthetic fight. He's fallen the gun three times three times in almost five years loss twice when he beat an over the hill washed up donald ceremony. I'm sorry cowboy but let's let's call it like it is so after that farce of a boxing match that payday. Would you count suckers into a deal. That mcgregor floyd mayweather junior fight where he made a boatload of money. Good for him good for floyd but ever since that fighting. Ufc two or five. Was he done. What has he done to live up to the myth to live up to the a type of fighter that he was that night again three years. He's at five years. He's talked for three times. He's law to two of them after coming back from boxing. Floyd mayweather junior. He fought for the light heavyweight championship against could be. That was in october of twenty eighteen and he was submitted in the fourth round. I was happy watching that fight. Then you know. After that he retired took the time off gun in the legal trouble. You had to deal with the brawl. He had to deal with some of the things all the alcohol and then came back almost two years later on january eighteenth two thousand and twenty to fight donald only ufc to forty six before cirm only way past his prime. Megan Fox and Machine Gun Kelly Double Date With Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker

"Was a double date. that happened. People sought courtney kardashian and travis barker wit to the ufc fight with megan fox and machine gun kelly. But it's not like they sat together because there's no setting together these days you know. They're just both there. But the implication that's a double date is funny because they're not actually seated near each other because of distancing and i don't even know arrived together maybe they did and that's the proof but we have no proof. This is a double date. This is two different couples who were at the afc fights which were televised to be fair. Though i think travis and what's his face at a machine gun kelly worked on music together. Because travis i think produced a bunch of his music. So it's like they are friends. And courtney crashing would get along with megan fox. They both have like four kids. Three kids they totally would get along.

UFC Fight Night: Derrick Lewis demolishes Curtis Blaydes

"Let's go right into this thing. Let us discuss the heavyweight division in the ufc because it was on full display last week. It'll be on display this weekend as well and next month with the title on the line but let's focus on ufc vegas nineteen and derek lewis's incredible ferocious and absolutely vicious knockout of curtis blades. In the main event after a really strong opening round from curtis blades lewis delivers one of the nastiest knockout. You will ever see in the second round coming through with the biggest main event upset in the. Us's michael bisbee became. The ufc middleweight champion. A you have c. One ninety nine knocking out. Luke rocco network going to begin with you kind sir. Nice and easy your reaction to a massive win for derek lewis less than a week ago surprise. Surprise i guess is where i would start out. I picked curtis blades. I thought he would be able to at least take down. Derek lewis enough to win the fight and lo and behold. He didn't take him down at all. So that was probably actually the biggest surprise about the fight What wasn't surprising. That derek lewis after being down in the first round after losing that second round blades was doing really well on the feet. And then derek lewis just did what they're glues does. Big are uppercut. Is the fight so relatively shocking shocking result in the sense that derek one. I was fairly confident that blades. Who get it done. But not so not so surprising that derek lewis got another highlight reel nocco assay. We kind of got your instant reaction after the fight on saturday on the post by now you've talked about on the side but now they've had some time to let it all sink in and spoken about it on on different platforms. How big was this win. For derek lewis in the in the grand scheme of things that heavyweight. I mean anytime you win in the top five especially when the heavyweight title is only is within less than a month of your big victory. It's a big thing. I just think. Derek lewis is one of those fighters that he said it himself like the title is great but he's fighting for that paycheck. You got the bonus. You got bulbs paychecks. He's back taxes. Which is obviously still reeling from the massive blizzard. So i'm sure he's going to do great things with that. We saw what he did when the hurricane happened. Driving around saving people so For a normal fighter getting this big win on a big platform so close to not just the title fight probably another a contender fight with jazzy. No rose straight and cyril gone. They're going to be like. Oh this is great for my career. I'm looking at it from the perspective of derek. Lewis wear awesome. I got both of my paychecks and fifty thousand dollars more so yeah massive night for the black beast again. Prize fighters derek lewis through to be one of the most reliable prize fighters on the ufc roster. So yeah ten attempt forms across the board from the heavyweight contender to sort of build upon that jose. Is it time to look at derek. Lewis is not just a fun prizefighter but a serious threat to the title. It's not like he wasn't before but people always view. Derek is this you know fun. Follow on social media this hilarious guy this quote machine who can land knock on at any point of a fight as watch the sport at all outside of his fight weeks doesn't really care about titles but it seems like he's putting together now i know he's added some pieces to his team. You saw lauren. Murphy's husband joe in his corner who's excellent jujitsu coach in practitioner. His own right time to stop looking. Derek lewis as the funny guy with the with the best social media. Game outside of darren taylor. Moore is a legit threat to st bay francis and gado john jones. Whoever is in this division. I would say derek lewis has already the best twitter follow third. Darren tools jason lewis at this point. Because derek lewis is winning fighting and being funny darren till is only doing one of those things. So i i would say derek lows. Of course you have been taken seriously if he touches your jaw you have to take him seriously because you're probably not going to remember when after the referee pulls him off of you so i don't know the answer to this because we haven't seen we don't know we don't know that's like saying oh francis in who is putting together all of these this team to make him a complete fire. All of his fights are like less than two minutes long. So we just don't know for all we know. Derek lewis is the best gogo planet practitioner. It all of the ufc. We're just never going to see it because at the second touches you you die. So if you fight someone like steep bay That is obviously a master game. Planner i think that's better. That's that'll be a better gauge of derek. lewis skills. because we've seen him fight dan mccormick. Who is the definition of a complete mixed martial arts and that wasn't a great night for derek lewis. Yes he took that on like Real short notice to only a month after he got that beatdown he did win. Let's not forget volkov. Put it on their clothes until again. Derek lewis touched his jaw and killed a man on live television. So yeah i don't know. Tb all say. I know that's a cop out. But i don't think anyone knows i think everyone will agree with.

"We have the monster fight. Saturday night this saturday. The return of the notorious conor mcgregor. Ufc two fifty-seven taking on dustin perea fight island in abu dhabi. Mcgregor spoke earlier this morning. Our time take a listen. I know a hell of a competitor. I notice questions here. He's heavy he's zupan. he's on a different way. he's experience. I feel i can do it however you know. There are question marks garden conditioning. And things like that. I know his team has been spouting about the condition and that i have put in a lot of work to get myself correctly to the one hundred fifty five pound frame. I got forty seconds inside the octagon and twenty twenty which caused major frustration. In my know it's not enough. I need more.

Which Conor McGregor Will Show Up at UFC 257?

"Aerial. Thank you so much for joining me man. It's good to have you back my old friend pablo. It's good to hear from you. You don't call as much. But i do get very excited when you do reach out. Aerial halawani has covered mixed martial arts for fifteen years and he hosts the dc in hawaii. Podcast for espn. I don't call you much. But i call when it's important and it's an important time in your life right now in the life of conor mcgregor right now. You just spoke him in a big sit down four. Espn ahead of this. Weekend's big fight against us poor area so how would you describe how. Connor is feeling mentally right now. So that's a great question. Because i've been covering connor since two thousand thirteen since right before his have debut in. I've obviously seen all the extreme highs and lows of his career. Of course it's been a roller coaster especially the last few years when he became this This megastar this time around. Had you asked me which connor would be in front of me. When i spoke to him would it be the zen like connor. Would it be the trash talking. Connor the jovial connor. You know all the different iterations. I would've said it would have been the urinated conor mcgregor upset conor mcgregor the conor mcgregor. Who had big plans in two thousand twenty to fight. At least three times to fight manny pacquiao right. Reclaim his spot. As the man the king in may but none of that happen instead. What got pablo was actually got a very relaxed conor mcgregor accountable gregory who is like slouched in his chair. I've never seen him sit like this before he was wearing a new custom suit but he's wearing slippers as well sort of like all of us working at home these days as always already all we focus on the positive side. I was ready to continue and it didn't go that way. It is what it is. I still have that inside me now. I'm still ready to go of kept. Preparations are back. And i'm very happy to be back. Twenty twenty one. We're going to replicate this again. I'm starting the year force. Pay per view of the year and a very excited about that. He was very chill. He was very calm cool collected. I don't know if i've ever seen him that. Calm before fight. So i was pleasantly surprised to see that i wanna get into how he may have arrived at that mentality because it's been a year aerial since mcgregor last fought. That fight lasted forty seconds. It ended with mcgregor knocking out. Donald sironi so can you take us back to the aftermath of those forty seconds. What was the expectation for. What would come next for conor mcgregor so going into that fight. Everyone who's like izzy back. Is he still good. Can he stay out of trouble all this stuff and then he comes in there and completely. You know rex ceremony. What about its many style. Vegas is on fire. He gets on the microphone from town. He's calling everyone out. King is back. I mean it's just an electric seen. Only he can bring to the fight. Game had opportunity to go in his locker room afterwards and interview him. And i would describe him in that moment as happy excited actually even a little emotional as well i. I saw him get a little emotional but not satisfied. He wanted to fight february. He in his mind needed to make up for lost time because he didn't fight in twenty nine thousand nine. He spent more time in legal trouble than actually fighting twenty eighteen. The one fight against habib twenty seventeen. The floyd fight so he wanted to make up for lost time. He was pushing to fight the following month. And if not he wanted to fight in march and then of course in march everything changed and what was so interesting about what happened in march was instead of being upset. The press annoyed pissed off like the rest of us that are plans are big. Plans are big twenty. Twenty plans had been derailed. Connor almost took it upon himself to act like a politician. What does that mean. So like conner had a very close relationship with the irish people and they loved him right they had this amazing support towards him and dislike this unwavering loyalty towards him and in two thousand nineteen. They kind of turned on him. And you know you can make a strong case that they were in the they were in the right to do a lot of things to really upset them. Most notably punching that that old man in the bar that was caught on camera and so in march when the country is down in its lockdown. And everyone's depressed. He's doing these presidential videos. Truly down must began and it must begin now. The literally you go online. And he's standing there like president politicians what they should be doing. We must our airports. We must all non-essential business. We must cook all non essential travel. I wanted to call upon my people that were eight people of ireland. How to Stand Out in a Fitness Revolution with Khalil Zahar

"Today we'll be talking about how to stand out in a fitness revolution because we are parts of a fitness revolution. I can tell you that right now. I mean i've got peleton in my gym right here on thinking about getting a mirror i mean. There's there's a lot of things that are going on. In this world it is a revolution so khalil. That leads me to my first question of why boxing like did you see a trend in the boxing space or is this more born from a passion for the sport. Yeah it's a great question. You know our story really tells that answer well so a lot of people know us for fight camp today but we actually originally started with a product called hicks so h. y. k. S which was like a terrible name But basically are. I started boxing in my life. Pretty late when it was about Twenty one years old and you know my background is actually more in soccer. But i really wanted yet. I fell in love with the sport. And i wanted to compete in studying competitive sport. The twenty one years old. It's it's you know you're kind of behind so at that point. I really wanted to shortcut my way to the east of lucien possible. That was very really adamant about you. Know having the best training regimen possible really tried to optimize single aspect of it and that led us know me to do you want to measure myself on a regular basis and there was not a lot of measuring out there for boxing specific stuff so we created this first version of the product. That's our punch trackers you with them on your race. The calculate the types of country throw measures the speed of every punch and you could recreate performance profile it and that went on to be a very successful product elite community you know. We had multiple olympic teams using it a lot of pro boxers in pro ufc fighters using it And then because boxing anime kickboxing Is a very special sports. Where ninety five percent of. It's not like ninety nine percent of the people that engage in it actually don't entering the ring and get hit but just do it for the fitness aspect of it so we can you know our initial products stuttered to spill two very different. You know typical customer and that kind of drought. It drew us into the fitness world. Fire nation. i really want you to just think that. Hey there's multiple ways to kind of make your start. make your splash. Is it because of a trend or is it because of a passion can it. Maybe be a combination of both. I mean that can kind of be where a zona fire lies. And they can really be a spark. And then of course lease to we can flag ration- and khalil for you. Since you started fight camp how have you seen the connected. Fitness industry evolve. How would just are connected to other people live or you know whether we've got stuff strapped on this. This is kind of connecting all of our stats. What we're doing here. I mean are people working from home. Instead of gyms is actually become the norm. Absolute thing it. It will be for portion of the majority of the portion of the fitness community. I think we're still you know like obviously with covid things have been accelerated loved. But you know we really believe that in the long run working out in a workout room makes a lot more sense to have in your home the same way. You actually have living room in the same way. You have a home theater in a big screen. Tv and a kitchen. We think it's going to be an extension part of our living spaces just because it's not something you you you're doing only once a month you know like a good fitness routine will engage in it at least at least three times a week so you know having to add friction every time that you have to do this with the commute and having to hit the class right on time where it starts. We just don't think it's aligned with the frequency in which you have to engage with it so that's one aspect. The second aspect is like home fitness. Home fitness is very popular today but it started a long time ago You know. And i'm sure some people remember jazzercise tai-bo that was really like the the beginning of the category but you know it led to a lot of like scan products especially specifically like in the late nineties. A lot of infomercial at the end of the night like black and white. And you don't train trying to target people that really wanted to buy a dream but now this silly inc a fitness and a healthy lifestyle and i can feel that this new generation of companies are lot more thin. -tic they're genuine. They're offering a better way and they're not targeting someone who's you know trying to press on the fact that you know you may not feel good about yourself. Look at all these people in shape. But they're they're targeting a healthy lifestyle. And i think they're building the products accordingly as well. I mean khalil. It's critical these days to stand up above the noise to be unique from your competition. I mean that just every industry a hundred percent across the board and let's be honest. Cop is fierce in the fitness space. So what specifically have you done to make fight camp standout. We're yet to see a serious competitor in boxing and kickboxing right. Like we. You know we. There's some concepts out there but you know when we started it was not about. You know trying to beat the competition. It was more. You know like there's a very unique opportunity here and being the first to bring a connected experience to boxing and kickboxing from home. And you know. We thought the power of teaching people how to do boxing. Well was also like you know a statement for you. Know the growth of boxing with a lot of franchise that were growing as well. You know like pre covid. Boxing gyms and kickboxing gyms. The nation were growing very very fast. It was becoming a very big fast-growing exercise that was gaining in popularity. But you know. Boxing is not easily. You know it's not easily accessible in terms of flake. There's a lot of technique you can just get a bag and hit it but it is not proper boxing. You actually have to develop the foundation you have to. You know work on your reflexes and then you have to know why you through a certain bunch and why you don't throw that certain bunch and how to move so we wanted to provide in the centric experience and at the same time naked interactive and. There was nobody else that was doing that at a time. Fire

Esports Engine's New CEO On Building Storylines in Esports

"Storylines perspective. How could be sports do a better job at and how can use Sports engine in particular use the company's role at the center of Esports to help build those story lines as well? Yeah. It's a good question. It's worth highlighting a little bit when I was being robbed. Rooted from the UFC to go to Activision. I remember the chief strategy officer who had a relationship with previously and we were speaking and he said, you know, there are so many similarities with what the US seem to overcome to where to where e Sports is and and those similarities are as I mentioned in one case in the UFC everyone thought these were just bar room Brawlers. They weren't skilled Fighters found in these Sports everyone believes. These are Gamers who are sitting in someone's basement with mushrooms growing under their feet and they're not really dedicated committed people. And so and neither one of those things are true. But how do you convince people that they're not true and and it is through storytelling. The other thing that was similar is as I mentioned the outset there's this really impassioned community and fan base that become the profitability proselytizers for you and the initiative and you've gotta stay true to that fan base to grow and sort of create that Network effect. And that's a very similar thing because if you're a gamer and you want to suck Better or be entertained a great way to get that entertainment or education is by watching Esports. So you've got those people but how do you expand it to the question that you asked and I do believe is driven through personal stories and those stories are generated through creative people. They everybody's got a compelling story. This is what we always believe that in a in the old UFC. You would hear Dana White's say these are the fighters. We have to promote them where the promoters we need to make people care about them everybody. Even if you think they're boring or they don't speak English, whatever it is. It's our job to find a way to make them interesting. I think that sort of myopia in terms of what our objective is and I think Publishers think about this I think platforms think about this long and it's just how do you execute on the stories? Cuz everyone will tell you oh, it's storytelling. Oh we have to, you know, make the players more relatable and make people care about them, but the magic and doing that is get off. Really creative people who know the right questions to ask who know what's happening within culture to try to drive connectivity. So, you know, my son is a sneaker head, you know sneakerheads are a thing down one's interested in this and you might find the most boring athlete who all of a sudden has a sneaker collection that you can find a way to expand that and I think what makes us unique at home. It's engine is one we have real passion from top to bottom within the company of people who live and breathe gaming they live and breathe not only the game and often the strategy in the competition related to the play. But also they understand what the community is interested in what they like. So with that applying that to them bringing in really creative people who have that same passion and giving them the freedom to to dream and create and ultimately then the next step is to execute on the vision is really what Esports. Yep. as we've got the creative minds we've got the passion talent that understands the community and we've got the resources in terms of how to get the full story and the message over the line and in our space we are really you know an extra set of fingers or hands you know to help the Publishers and the platforms who wants to create content we help them achieve their goals that's our job we don't win unless they win and when they come to us with an idea and if they want to drive more interest in their game in terms of Engagement you know activating their current fan base when they want to expand their fan base and use any of the content we create to grow their fan base we have the kind of resources and creative people that can sit down and work with them and help them to see the world in a way where they can invest in these stories it's always dead A bit of

A Face-Punching Legal Battle

"The ufc has an overwhelmingly dominant position as the biggest promotional organization that runs fights in mixed martial arts. It likely made close to a billion dollars in revenues last year. And that's estimated to be as much as ninety percent of all the revenues in mixed martial arts and it achieved that dominant position both by successfully managing and promoting the sport but also by buying out all of its biggest rivals in getting all of those top fighters from its rivals to fight for it. So you have. These numbers are not public but these estimates come from nash analyzes the business and finances of mixed martial arts for the website. The bloody elbow. He's our guide to this world and is the lawsuit filed by the former fighters against the ufc has unveiled all these documents. That show what the fighters get paid. We had an inkling. We had an idea but now we have like concrete numbers. Okay so here. Are some of the points made by the fighters and here are some of the. Us's agreements i the fighters argue that they simply get paid a much smaller share of the ufc's revenues than athletes and other major sports leagues. And this is true. Those new documents from the court hearing revealed that fighters get paid roughly twenty percent or less of ufc revenues in a given year for the major basketball baseball hockey and football leagues athletes. Get paid close to half of what they're leaks make and in boxing the other major combat sport. It's even higher close to sixty percent of boxing. Revenues goes to boxers. And one of the reasons john says is it. There are several major. Boxing promoters trying to sign fighters it's just a more competitive market so for the fcc. The fighter has to pitch to the of c. To hire him to give them a fight because he needs to be in the afc to make money were in. Boxing promoter has to find a fighter and convince him to let him promote them. Because he's the person drawing the money in response to the fighters. Ufc's arguing that even though it's fighters getting smaller share of its revenues. Those fighters are still getting paid more money over time because the ufc is making more in revenues over time so the overall level of the fighters pay is still going up and john says if the us seaward some other kind of company that response might be enough to win the case if the fighters are just like other workers and their pays going up. Why would it matter. If the fighters are getting a smaller share of the sports revenues than the athletes in other sports. What makes this case different honest with the plaintiffs argue is that the fighters aren't workers like a typical worker on a factory line. The fighters are the product and as the product. That's being sold. They deserve a share of the sales. Dmc has also argued that nick martial arts is still a young and growing sport should not be compared against established. Sports leagues plus. Dear makes the case that a big reason it makes so much. Money is not because of how great it's fighters are because of how good the you have c. is at putting on big lucrative fight nights that effectively. Ufc has a special ingredient that it adds to its fight cards john. Nash is a little skeptical of this one. But what is the special sauce is a little confusing. When of would claim it's their production. It's the way they things but then can you be more specific because you know. Boxing does the same thing they they promote fighters they put on events they they make packages that you know all that stuff that seems to be part of the special sauce is done by other other promotions plus john says if the ufc does have a special sauce and the specific fighters don't matter too much. Then why did the ufc go to such lengths to buy out its rivals and get their fighters and why does the ufc put restrictions in the fighters contracts that prevent them from fighting for other promotional companies. Look there's lots of other complexities in this lawsuit. For example the ufc also makes its fighters except the sponsorship deal with reebok and keeps a lot of the money from that deal the fighters say they could get their own sponsors which they used to be able to they would get paid more but really we're just scratching the surface here on this lawsuit and it probably has a long way to go anyways. But what is clear is that the lawsuit is a fight. About worker power the former fighters say they lost power to negotiate their pay because a ufc made the market for their talent less competitive the ufc disagrees and has argued that it should not be punished for being a successful company by the way we emailed a spokesperson for the ufc about the lawsuit. They have not yet responded. What's also clear right now. Is that the financial life of a lot of you. Have fighters is really hard fighters who are not highly ranked will sometimes get as little as ten thousand dollars for a fight and finders will have at most a few fights a year and they pay a big share of their earnings to their fight camps. The places that run their training and provide coaching things like that and so these former fighters are basically suing the ufc for what they believe they are owed what they argue they would have made if the ufc had allowed a competitive market for their services. Nate quarry one of these x. fighters says they're also hoping that the ufc has to change. Its approach to paying fighters going forward. We deserve our seat at the table. Whether it's talking about sponsorships whether it's negotiating our purses whether it's being able to fight for someone else free agency that's what we truly need in the sport where the fighters will have the ability to really test out the free market and see what our values this episode of the indicator was produced by jamila huxtable. In fact check by sean sal donya indicators paddy hirsch and is a production of npr.

A potential bureaucratic dispute could slow down the birth of 5G internet

"The US needs a five G. Network that much everyone agrees on. This is the network that would allow things like fully self-driving cars Internet. That's a hundred times faster. But it turns out. There are a couple big questions not fully resolved in Washington I who should build and operate parts of this network and second who's responsible for giving up the airwaves that it would run on. We point this out because the FCC's looking at auctioning off some of the government owned electromagnetic spectrum. So companies can use it for five G. and at the same time. The Department of Defense is looking at leasing out some of that same spectrum. So I asked Craig Moffett analysts for telecom and media research for Muffin Nathanson. Who is in charge here? That's the sixty four thousand dollar question. Historically, the FCC has always been in charge of spectrum at least for commercial purposes. What's been proposed here is unusual in that the Department of Defense is suggesting something that is a bit of a hybrid, build their own network that they would then make available through some mechanism to commercial carriers, and that starts to crossover fairly clearly into the commercial sphere. Will this all sounds frankly dysfunctional. You have two major government agencies not on the same page over how to govern a piece of technological real estate. What are the consequences of this situation yet look dysfunctional doesn't begin to capture. It seemed fairly clear that the dod didn't know what the FCC was doing that the FCC. Didn't know what the DOD was doing and that parts of the dod didn't know what other parts of the Dod we're doing. Dysfunctional. Is being polite. It is a mess. There is this on again off again conversation over whether the US needs a national five G. Network run by the government or a private sector driven network, which is where we've been going how does this dispute over spectrum and you know who can Lisa rock it out fit into that conversation? Well I it's very much part and parcel of the same discussion. The idea that we should have a nationally coordinated response rather than a commercially driven response. I reared its head in the beginning of twenty eighteen and it was soundly repudiated by everybody in in government within a matter of days after it went public and it went underground and then came back again and then it was repudiated by everybody and went underground. And came back again and it keeps coming back. It's sort of this Zombie that can't be killed. This country has committed. I think fairly clearly since one, thousand, nine, hundred, four, and the break-up of the bell system that we're going to pursue a private enterprise approach to telecom rather than a government regulated monopoly approach, and you can see a tremendous amount of tension ideologically among different parts of the government about whether that's appropriate. Is there any merit to the idea of a national five G. Network just because? It just sounds maybe more efficient than having a bunch of private companies build their own separate versions. Yeah. There are two arguments here. The the first one is time to market and at its very core, the motivation for government intervention and the motivation of certain participants and names that have been attached to this concept like Eric. Schmidt, the former chairman and CEO of Google, for example, is this belief that the US is moving too slowly and that China is taking the lead and that has two consequences. One that there will be a more robust equipment ecosystem were or supply chain. That evolves around the Chinese five G. Network, and therefore, there will be critical infrastructure that we simply can't produce in the Western Hemisphere. So so that's part one part two is this view that if we don't move fast enough, then China will start to develop the economic ecosystem that rides on top of five G., all the applications that will emerge that we can imagine yet but out of four g came companies like Uber and facebook arguably really grew into what it is today because of four g and so so all the innovation that comes on top of a platform like this. is feared to becoming too slowly because the US may fall behind China in developing our five G. Network. That's separate and apart from the question of just is it economically sensible to have three or potentially four different companies building five G. networks instead of having one national platform that then everybody shares or at least chairs some part of and buys capacity from. So let's say that this conflict between UFC indeed doesn't resolve and this big midsection of spectrum disease just stays locked up, is it still going to be possible for you know verizon or whoever to buy five g service to all of us? The short answer is, yes. There are other solutions besides this particular block of spectrum. So. Most of the world, it started down the path of mid band spectrum before the US. The US started with a very much a focus on very very high frequency spectrum and his head to course correct perhaps later than than one would have liked but they have they have now if not fully caught up at least closed the gap to some degree, and there is a very large auction of mid band spectrum coming in December called the c-band auction that the carriers have been planning around for at least two years and and by all accounts. Is Spectrum very similar to the spectrum that the DOD would theoretically be using and and there's quite a bit of it. So I think right now that you would have to say that the carriers view see band as the

Christian Apologist vs. David C. Smalley

"Well let's dive in. We just had a debate on modern day debate on. Ever. Confused on the topic there for a moment but it was is it is the Christian belief rational. So anyone who hasn't checked that out, they can go to Youtube and type that in you can find us and we also had a debate on Justin Brierley's unbelievable show in the UK and it's funny I hadn't put the pieces together for some reason I. Think I just know you as tentative apologised, which is what you'd go by on twitter. And we had a debate about memes. It was very fun and and people there may be people who are listening right now that a herd of US tentative apologised did not know Uber Randall Rouser I don't remember how that will happen but I remember after our recent debate a set you message and was like wait haven't we debated before and you're be like Oh. Yeah. I guess I left quite the impression. But share you assure you it was about the name that I knew you by not necessarily your ability to have a debate. I mean there's a funny thing there as you know. When you're when you're building a brand. You've got to focus your energies on your brand so On the one hand I started calling myself tentative apologised tries to embody my approach to apologetic intellectual defensive, my beliefs I. I started calling myself that eleven years ago but also published books mean my most recent book is my twelfth one and so it's a zero sum game to some degree the more that you invest in building a brand called attended apologised. Invested in getting your name out there with your books. So I sort of have put more emphasis in the last years on my name rather than my my moniker online. But so that's yeah that's I guess that's my fault I got to apologize for that. We've actually call myself tended apology Dash Randall rouser. That'll be good. The confusion. Yeah. The tentative apologised Randall rouser. Yeah. kind of like a like a UFC fighter the world's most dangerous man. Ken. Shamrock things like that. He was he was on the show and that's how I got to introduce him by the way it was the most dangerous man can can. Yes so so let's talk about in. You're right by the way I did the same thing. I built the brain, of Dogma, debate for. Started as a blog I mean, gosh, two thousand. Eight I think Dogma debate started as a blog by twenty twelve I was doing this version of the podcast and only recently within the last six months or so I've made it my name in the problem with that is my publicists, managers, agents they're all going. We're trying to bill you out on these comedy shows as an actor with an audience but nobody knows your name like what's going on with that? I'm like well, they do domain, but you have to know what you know. So I get out. So that's why we switched everything to my name, the website, the twitter. Everything of course, people will think it's about my ego or that I want a pat on back. It's really about marketability and being recognized and and when you're putting yourself out there and building a brand, you're running your own business and the name of Your Business is you because if I'm going to be you know a lot of times in these smaller films to as an actor, they will book you on a roll based on your audience is. So if you are if you have no followers or nobody knows your name or the biggest thing you ever did you did anonymously. They may not book you because they want you to bring your audience in to watch the film right. So that's why they go for big names in the lead roles. So she's like my manager and my agents were like you really need to streamline everything to David C smalley like across the board and so far it's working I. Thought when I did it people would think I wasn't going to have conversations like this anymore and that worried me that they thought it was abandoning this but I, I think I did a good job of communicating it publicly and nobody has left. So we'll they've left but for different reasons. They didn't leave for that reason. You know. So it is a it is tricky. So I'm glad I did love the dogma debate brand I mean it's a great title but yeah, I perfectly understand where you're coming from. A. Lot of people didn't like it would kind of not really scare Christians away. But for those you know lay Christians who just wanted to have a conversation, which is actually what I do. By the way it's just very respectful. Peaceful Conversations They felt like it was a very formal debate format and they were really intimidated to come on and then when I would actually convince them to they would go listen they'd like Oh you just have conversations with people and I Thought, you know as cool as the Dogma debate name is as popular as it was how it looks nice and tight square blue logo with similar links and everything else. Right. It's just not worth if it's running people off, it needs to be more distinct to what I'm actually talking about. So that's why that's the reason we made the change. So I agree it was fun while it lasted it was good and I still WANNA consider those to be segments on the show like. I'm working right now on putting a debate together to happen on my show, and that will be a dogma debate segment of the David Smalley podcast. So It's you know none of us know what we're doing randall none of us. Now we're just we're trying as we go and everything's trial and error. We're out as we go. Absolutely. Okay. So when I heard the title of your book, the first time I heard it was actually during our debate on modern day debate on YouTube and I was I was thrilled to hear that I immediately knew I wanted to talk to you about that. When you came on my show because it's it's something I wish really every Christian would do you know is to think about what their inner atheist is thinking and a Lotta. Times one of my favorite questions, I, ask believers on the show is I'll say we'll talk about in the Patriots section and I Do a little tease, but always WanNa say what are some things that keep you up at night? What are some things that bother you if there's something in the Bible, you could take out what would it be and only one time in all my years of doing this have someone said the Bible's perfect. The way it is every other time someone picks versa goes oh man, this one really drives me crazy and I can share some of those with us. We go to the show but for the most part when you're the title of your book is exactly that. Conversations with my inner atheist, and then we'll talk about those things that keep me up at night. So what was it about your life in your experiences? That even inspired you to write this book. Well so my story I grew up in a I would say relatively conservative Protestant home so. I'm sure you're familiar with the term evangelical and the term fundamentalist, and it's it's becoming increasingly common to combine those terms and come up with the term funded jellicoe, which sort of gets a sense for a Christian subculture. That's has some characteristics of believe Anjelica and fundamental sort of conservative Protestant. The called common hallmarks of that sort of funded jellicoe tradition include a very strong emphasis upon having the certainty of your convictions knowing what it is you believe in why and doubt is always viewed as the enemy and. Then one of the results of that is you kind of get a very tend to get a very over-simplified black and white picture of reality, and again every time you have a doubt, you don't share it. You try to just suppress it get a simple answer for it. And the thing is that certainly in my experience as I grew up in the eighties and then into university in the nineties, you just find that that's increasingly inadequate paradigm. It just doesn't quite work if you really want to confront the complex to reality and then you have to confront the reality that will then you do have these doubts and questions and what do you do with them, and for me, the big revelation was to come to terms with the fact that the Christian tradition is built grows at Judaism and. The name Israel, which is the people of God in the Old Testament that name itself means he who strives with God.

And I was like, okay, we got a nice little main card. Overall. I really thought it. disappointed. A. Wasn't. It wasn't it was some weird circumstance. Is Not, the fighters falls yes. It's not like they all wanted or tried to go to decisions or anything, but some sheet happened that made it kind of weak. So I will talk about John Dodson. Showing up in doing nothing. Mood he's gun shy told you these headed someone's wrong sums? Are you gotTa drop the weight? You know it's not it's admit this is mental. This is a one hundred percent mental Dj Rodham, his soul Shang soon them he probably I think. So something happened because remember when Dawson arrived on the scene like he knocked out Tj dillashaw the magic man, but he was everywhere. Hands hit bricks for hands fast as hell you couldn't take them down. Like he was easily the number one number two, the fastest fighter in division. Easy. Maybe the entire UFC. But now it's like he's completely gunshot. And visibility. Didn't he just? Fuck this, he had so much fun beating up on John Dasa just like tossing him around. I don't know who John Dyson it's over this drop the weight it won't matter if you don't let your hands go. Yeah. Morale was having a blast Murrah was in his quarter just like that's easy lay. This is mile in after the fight through the headdress back on he just didn't care and do we both picked us and I can't remember I definitely did. White I feel terrible and morale is going to be a problem at bantamweight. He's. If. He continues fighting like this. The way he's you know just out wrestling guys like he's on a nice little fight he streaked. Yeah and he was able to out strike Dotson granted Dotson tried too much to to throw hands I. Don't I don't know what the game plan is for Dotson Eurofighter anymore like why watch them fight I go to the Jimmy Rivera finally what's what's cleaning I? Don't think there is one. Rob. is on a firefight winning streak last lost. What's to Ricky Simon Smoke. Yeah. Okay. That makes sense. Okay I. Remember there was a submission. So young has buzzer. By the way you might have won that fight yet move rob has been dominant these past few fights but this the dots performance impressive. I. Think he could be a problem but I put more of the blame on John Dasa because something mental is going on with this man is not up to his capability. Yet Very Weird I. Can't call it he needs a sports psychologist. He's recapture some late when you don't even try to let the hands go. That's when you got a problem. So next fight, Herbert, Burns versus Daniel. Pineda this is where you are right and I was wrong. A feeling this and like this. I I don't know another weird fight because I think burns was just dominated from the jump. Eight just he didn't seem to have it this night. No. Cash wait forty, five, I don't. I can't. Blame it on but. The elbows came down and it was a rap so. Whichever I mean yeah I mean. Significant strikes. Ten. For burned. Fifty, seven for opinion. Yeah. I mean like it'll be like this but I kind. Win this fight, but that's wild and that was in dominant fashion. Then we go to the next night jd s versus Rosen struck. and. Bump you know super buff. Different, body. Mustached. GPS. Didn't help him because he got rocked. And slumped on cage. So the thing about Rosen's struck is what I've noticed now is yeah. Okay. Everybody's GonNa lose the Francis in God like if you rush Francis and got gotTa, you're going to lose that's what's going to happen. So this fight, he was a little bit more patient picked spots really didn't do a lot in the first round. Waiting for eighty s kind of open up getting a little bit more comfortable like ease up on the guard and he's just let it has put away. But this division. I don't want to say that there's like a huge gap is not a valid Musa Tanko gap. That's we're going to call that gap that's shift that's it is absurd. Touching her, but it's a pretty significant gap in skill after steeping. DC's probably gone. I don't know skill wise because. Roy, as he is. With all the raw power, he's still a role as an enemy fighter. Roses stroke is a raw power like the striking's there but. What happens with Steve puts him on his back. And clearly debate Baker Take Punch. So I don't I don't know who's who's going to be a problem for steep A. At this juncture, we'll talk about it in a little bit because even though I think in God who's going to be better if they have another fight. I can't. Skill wise. It's different levels of this shit.

"They, you know, disposed of the blood, and there was nothing. Sinister behind it. An honest mistake, but it's a good lesson to all of our athletes whenever you saw two or Representative that they contract with throughout the world comes for a collection say, no, either, they're yeah. They're gonna have tastes their credential to show they're gonna have paperwork from Sada, if they're not you Sada authorizing the collection. So all UFC athletes had always ensure that they see that documentation before they provide sample. What we hold on. Jeff. What is the chances of that? No. That's like what is that? That's one in a million. Right. We'll only happened once. Right. So I guess it doesn't really there's so many fighters in so many tests it just happened. Once it was just a freak of the numbers. I guess being the same address. What are the odds that the exact same house number, but the street next door, and that this individual they mistakenly show up at is used to you know, providing blood at six thirty AM in the morning. I mean astronomical odds faced to why why did they go at six thirty is that because guys usually start training at seven, and they want to catch you seems to go really lousy time to come. Yeah. It's believe me. It's for athletes. It is it is a bird. And you know, I tried to explain to everybody. You know? I don't know if you got. But once a fighter does twenty five tests without incident, they get a little reward from you saw this shirt. That's only available to fire. That's produced twenty five, you know, clean tests. And I always try to beat out that information. I get a lot of responsive. Oh, wow. This is don't cheat award. Why should anybody? You know, the word like. That will a perfect example. It's more than just not cheating. It's being woken up at six six thirty AM. You know, multiple times a month potentially. Because the first urine provisions of the morning tends to be the most sensitive because your body overnight processes. What is in it excretes that out probably the highest level of morning? So so our guys and girls, you know, as part of our roster are inconvenienced all the time, and it is it's a pain in the butt, but most of them embrace it because they realize you know, what at stake in the sport..

"Those were outside of the US and who's the other? How'd he finished him? He knocked out Emanuel Newton in Fabio Maldonado. He had been in the UFC, and then he was out for a little bit. And he came back. So his return fight. He lost the envelope. That's who he Lord loss to current got bad news form. Okay. He's got always pee in front of him. He does you know always piece of mission second round. Right. I said it I said it and taking what over in Saint Pru. Third round. I call third and this is a rematch, by the way, these guys fought. Stoppage. How? I got three points. You get mission. I got three points. No. That's true. But I mean TKO, okay, we're knockout. Yeah. All right. Okay. I by I'm also going with second round submission. All right. Joe one the first one show O S P one. I fight. He landed. The von Peru, choke. Yes. Okay. How 'bout Alan Joe bad who just talked to Dwight grant? What do I do unless night? Do I go? Oh. Yes, he's coming off a vicious KO of Carlo Pederson salty and his last fight which was his second UFC fight. He lost his UFC. Oh, I'm sorry to. I forgot let's. All right. The white grant. It was a split decision. Lost zakho. That's right. Okay. All right. So he then then he got a vicious KO. I listen Allen Joe ban is a smart fighter. Yep. Yep. He's a smart fighter. Is he got enough to take out grant grants could be aggressive. But I believe how many how what's his record grants. All he's nine and two overall. Oh, so it was only two losses for me. Has one outside of the UFC in one in the OC. He's got to UC fights. He's one in one. All right. I'm going to say who shit, man. All right. I'm gonna man Joe band decision. Oh, you're so cool. But Jimmy he is going to submit him in the third round. I listen. Sometimes I go outside the box a little bit. Sure. I was I'll admit it this one I changed. I had white grant by third knock out. But I I liked what I was hearing from Allan he sends ready to go sounds relaxed. His family is going to be there. I'm going to take out Joe ban by decision. Get that sub. Get is back. All right. Listen, I Bosnia chose I bonded with Khalil Roundtree shaded. You know, what's his? Last two, and what's Eric Anderson's lost two straight or Andrews? So Khalil is coming off. He fought Johnnie Walker. Johnnie Walker debut, and he so Johnnie Walker Kada with the nasty elbow and finished halfway through the first round prior to that Khalil finished, go on sake. We're actually at that fight. And that was a there was a great knockout those another first round knockout Eric's type thumb Eric's, tough, dude. And now, Eric he's on a two fight losing streak te'o Santos again a fight. He took on like literally two days and then a split decision loss to Elias. Theodore. I'm taking fear Dorothea d'oro Theodoros theater. I'm sorry. Go ahead. Jimmy Khalil Roundtree second round. Who? Ooh, Khalil secondhand to me. It's hard to see our Ganz was in three straight to Erin. His toughest as Eric is tough as f-. You know, what Paul gander second round TKO? You're right. He's not losing three straight. And you're saying that. All right. What about you? I I'm gonna go with Andrews by decision. I think he's an uses wrestling and he's going to like fresh Khalil. Yeah. It's gonna be rough man. I know you guys are picking Eric Anders.
