John Solomon Discusses China's Treaty Violations and the Wuhan Lab
"Is COVID origin secrets near the classification that in itself is exciting. Wuhan a lab's ties to China military burst into focus, talk to us about the latest things we need to know about our country, our government and the military biodefense lab in communist China, John. It's extraordinary. So no matter where we end up on whether the COVID-19 virus leaked from the lab or not, obviously the FBI energy department House intelligence committee Senate health committee all believe it did and growing other number of intelligence committees believe that. But here's the bigger question. No matter what happened with COVID-19, there is now irrefutable proof that the United States government has known since 2005 that China was violating its own treaties to not do offensive biological weapons they had an offensive biological weapons program. It was based in the Chinese People's Liberation Army at an entity called the academy of military medical sciences specifically the 5th institute. The State Department declared that in a document in 2005. Over the decade after they made that declaration, wide open evidence that the MMS that academy we just talked about was working with the Wuhan institute of virology, the place where we think the COVID-19 virus worked on. What were they working on? On Anthony Fauci's own site. On the NIH, you can find this. There was a study on anthrax. There was a study, a book, a book that said, coronaviruses as a class are going to be the leading edge of a new era of genetic warfare. That's the Chinese words, not mine. Those are the sort of things that were going on between scientists at the Wuhan institute of virology. And the academy of military medical sciences in China, the place that we said was the epicenter of an illicit bioweapons program, despite all that knowledge, despite all that evidence, no one in the intelligence committee, no one in the national Institutes of health. No one in the State Department stopped it. Millions of dollars flowed from U.S. agencies to the Wuhan institute of virology. And now we're hearing maybe also directly to the academy, the

US says Russian warplane hits American drone over Black Sea
"The U.S. has had to destroy a surveillance drone in the Black Sea after an encounter with Russian fighter jets. The Pentagon says two Russian jets flew near the MQ 9 drone for more than a half hour in international airspace. They collided with the aircraft, damaging the propeller, and essentially putting in a situation where it was unflyable and uncontrollable, so we brought it down. Brigadier general pat Ryder, even as Russia denied the hitting the drone. It appeared to be the first time since the Cold War's height that a U.S. aircraft was brought down after being struck by a Russian warplane. Jim Hanson and Will Chamberlain Talk Government Collusion
"Good buddy, Wilt Chamberlain, who is senior counsel at the Internet accountability project and also part of the article three project. Will, I am having trouble actually keeping up with all the evidence dropping recently about government collusion with the tech tyrants to censor political enemies. I'm stunned, at least we knew it was going on, but the amount of actual proof coming out these days is gobsmacking. Yeah, no, it really is stunning how many different government agencies were in on the sort of misinformation slash disinformation racket. And I mean, yesterday I think there was a Twitter files drop and saw something about how people were proposing, we need to censor truthful speech that might lead people to draw the wrong conclusions. Like straight up, truthful, you know, truthful speech about their reactions or the vaccine, for instance, that just might lead people to think the wrong way. That's totally unacceptable, totally not the way that our government should be working, and yet this is what somehow not only government agencies, but nonprofits and NGOs funded by the State Department and helping human services, all these people are just involved in trying to get Twitter to create a discursive world that they prefer. It's stupid. We need to it's unconstitutional. It's horrifying. Now they obviously

Chris Kohls and Seb Discuss John Milius' Epic Cold War Film 'Red Dawn'
"Had you seen this movie? I had seen red dawn, yes. We're doing red dawn ladies and gentlemen. Bye. The great John milius. Let's show the picture of me and Chris this morning in my home of the age headquarters. This is the original original theater poster, like thick card of red dawn, signed by the director and writer John milius because we know and you met her Amanda milius. Amanda milius, John milius is very impressive daughter who's also a director. It was also a director she's done some amazing films if you don't see it on film so I highly recommend them. A friend of Sebastian gorka. Yeah, Trump appointees in the State Department. Yeah, yeah. And just a cool person. We have that post. So this is a personal one for me. I'm a huge fan of the general. He was, they had to have to address him on set as general milius. I got another behind the scene documentary that you forced me to watch. I did hear that. Yeah, that's cool though. I think that's cool. So give us initial thoughts on this movie. You know, I did grow up with this film. It's a bit of a violent film. Yeah, it's a tough film. It's a very, I will say, philosophical film. It was accused of being like this pro war. It is not a pro war movie. No, no, no, no. It's a thinking man's film. And if you're not thinking, then I suppose you could perceive it that way. But no, it's a philosophical film. And so I didn't see when I was a child. I didn't grow up with it. It wasn't a big part of my childhood, but I saw it as an adult. I had a buddy of mine, he presented me, my buddy Kurt, who I mentioned sometimes on my show. He's a big movie buff. We're talking one day about films. And he said, he starts talking about the plot of red dawn. I'm saying, wait, wait, the Russians invade America, like rural America in the 1980s? Yeah. How have I never heard of this movie? I just loved the premise. So we watched the film and I thought, wow, what an underrated film that how could I have never heard of this? 1984, it looks even a little bit older than that in my mind because it was set in rural America. Yes. And so there's nothing about it that screams like trendy 1980s. No. World 1980s was more sort of like late 70s. And that was true in my household as well, because I didn't grow up rich or anything. And if you grew up sort of like lower middle class middle class in America in the 1980s, everything you owned, every piece of furniture owned was actually from the 70s.

Lee Smith: Biden State Dept Funds Left-Wing Radicals in Israel
"I've got the documents in front of me and it shows that the Biden State Department is helping fund helping fund the organizations that are behind the protests And this goes back I mean this goes back to 2015 You'll remember the stories about the State Department then funding and organization called V 15 And that's really where the anti BB infrastructure starts And again it's the State Department that's funding I mean it's insane They were funding political campaigns to go against BB to go against BB and his party in the Israeli election So this goes back to 2015 The other point I make is the number of different people like former ambassador to Israel Dan Shapiro who hung around in Israel after Obama left which is bizarre enough But his purpose there was to help maintain that anti BB infrastructure And to go around war Israelis who were who were tending to get to sympathetic into appreciative of Donald Trump because of all the things that Donald Trump had done for Israel And he went around warning them saying don't get too close to Trump You'll see what happens when Democrats come back to The White House There will be a price to pay And then of course there was a whole gang of Israeli former Israeli officials the so called Israeli security establishment who could always be counted on to push at the time pro Obama and now pro Biden talking points So it's extraordinary It's very extensive infrastructure And frankly for me it's very sad not of course a sense It was to see these people poison the United States and our information ecosystem And our and our society But to see them do it in a great country like Israel and a great it's very disturbing

Natalie Winters: The Wuhan Institute Is Completely Under CCP Rule
"Just like the United States was giving money to a Chinese scientific group that was trying to better understand how bats interact with the environment or pursuing some far left social agenda like trying to stop climate change. The Wuhan institute of virology is completely under the thumb and control of the Chinese Communist Party. They have communist working groups at the lab. They fly the Chinese Communist Party flag. They have weekly. What they call party devotion Sessions. They have a foreign influence chapter there. They have a communist youth league under the auspices of the Wuhan institute of virology as someone probably the only American who's ever looked at their job applications. You can apply if you're not a member of the Chinese Communist Party and you're not in good standing with the Chinese Communist Party. So this is a CCP run entity through and through. And with that, because there is no really meaningful designation or difference between military and civil science. In China, it's also effectively a branch of the PLA in the sense that they were operating a bunch of the People's Liberation Army. Yes, that they were operating a bioweapons program. And we know this from documents from the U.S. State Department, but even if you go to the Wuhan institute of virology website, though they have since deleted these web pages, you can see that they used to list several several military researchers as higher ups at the lab itself. And even, for example, a lot of the blood samples, the human blood samples that they were using to conduct this kind of bat virus manipulation, this gain of function research with. If you read in the paper, they actually thank a branch of the PLA, the People's Liberation Army for those vials of blood, the human blood, whatever model they were using.

"Let's just look at the situation on Capitol Hill. This was a catastrophic failure of security by the capitol police. Totally. And the police in the District of Columbia who were responsible for the security of the capitol, but it's the capitol police are responsible for the security of that building. The Speaker of the House, the sergeant at arms in both chambers and the architect of the capitol. I used to run this when I was the chief counsel and staff director of the Senate rules committee. I had jurisdiction over the capitol police and all the security. The fact that they were unprepared knowing that there were going to be a half a million people who were going to be asked to march to the capitol in peaceably demonstrate shows that they were woefully unprepared. Now, when you're unprepared and you lose the advantage as a law enforcement organization, the one thing that you do not do is you do not become bull Connor and you do not start brandishing weapons on people who are unarmed. This is a big mistake. It is a catastrophic security failure on Capitol Hill, which never should have occurred. They were totally unprepared. That's called making the news as it's happening. We were in charge of making sure that the FBI, that the Metropolitan Police that everybody coordinated the activities that we had prosecutors ready to go to do arraignments in court if large numbers of people were going to be arrested. And so this was routine. We had been doing this for 40 years and then this happens on January 6th and you look at it and all you can say as a professional is these people did absolutely nothing to prepare for this major event. "Want to get your reaction to this report from CBS. Are you hearing the same things up on Capitol Hill that U.S. Intel knew about this spy balloon for a long time? Yes, I'm hearing the same. What was your reaction when you heard those reports? This is malpractice on behalf of the Biden administration. They were so focused on getting a meeting between our Secretary of State and Xi Jinping, that they hope that this thing would just no pun intended blow over. And if you think about it, as the Biden administration isn't holding China accountable on any front. You know that there's been no investigation of the origins of COVID here. In fact, the World Health Organization is just dropped its inquiry into the origins of COVID why well, doctor T rose their leader, the candidate of the CCP, we're not holding them accountable on sentinel. I just had a hearing today with the three leaders of the U.S. government's efforts to stop drug enforcement agency the national office of national drug control policy in The White House at the head of the State Department's unit that's supposed to be dealing with it. I congratulate the massive failure because no one will hold China to account. And it's so sad. When the Treasury Department sanctioned Mexican cartels, they also told they also mentioned who the Chinese partner was that was giving the precursors for fentanyl. The Secretary of State's current press release failed to mention it left China. Joe Biden stayed union address. He talks about fentanyl doesn't mention China and their role in sending it over here. So at every turn, it just seems like this administration is so afraid to challenge China when that's exactly what we should be doing.

There's been no official confirmation from either Pelosi or The White House, Bloomberg sources as well saying that she will land tonight national security adviser spokesman John Kirby on Bloomberg says there are indications that China could respond with missile launches and straight fly throughs. The guardian is reporting the British House of Commons foreign affairs committee is planning a visit to Taiwan probably in November, U.S. State Department says Russia is using Ukrainian nuclear power plants as nuclear shields as they put it to protect against attacks from Ukraine. And the secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterres says given the dire warning that the world is his words. One step away from nuclear annihilation. In San Francisco, I met Baxter. This is Bloomberg back to Singapore, Juliet. On that note, Ed, thanks so much. Let's get back to John Woods, Asia Pacific CIO at Credit Suisse, who's in our Hong Kong studio with Brian Curtis who's not in this interview, but Doug krisna in New York isn't I'm Juliet Sally in Singapore. Let's have a look at what you're thinking in terms of China, John, because we saw the CSI 300 down 7% in July underperforming the S&P 500 the most since 2016 and kind of, I guess, a racing all of that reopening year for you. We saw in June, what leads you to still be overweight China here. Well, we're still supportive and positive and focused on the policy support that is being provided and we expect will be actually accelerated. In the next couple of quarters, particularly ahead of these senior leadership elections are in the fourth quarter, this is very much, as I say, a policy driven story. We believe that the amount of fiscal stimulus that is being provided to the economy almost inevitably will support and spill over into the equity markets, we went overweight towards the mid part of June, since then we have seen outperformance across the major markets, although as you correctly point out, this extraordinary some would say spectacular outperformance by U.S. markets during July did erode some of that outperformance. But nevertheless, we're in this for the long game. This is not a sort of a ten day 20 day tactical trade that we're recommending to clients. We do think there's sustained upside and are holding the course. Do you understand the risk to the financial system in China stemming from the property crisis to be significant or should we not be so concerned about that since many of the banks are essentially state owned and they would be able to absorb any significant problem with distress debt? This is a meaningful some would say critical risk facing China's broad economy. And let's not forget China's property sector is the single largest asset class in the world. And the deleveraging campaign that has been underway for the last, I want to say two and a half years or so, clearly is impacting the solvency and credit worthiness of the sector. To date the government is holding firm on its so called three red lines, frankly, I wouldn't be at all surprised if those become three pink lines as some of the leverage restrictions are diluted somewhat. And the government does allow a degree of flexibility back into the sector. But right now there is obviously the government holding the reins to credit and we do feel that it has the flexibility and the resources to support the sector for the foreseeable future. But it is absolutely a concern that we're very much focused on. And I have to say that we've been actually advising clients to avoid entirely particularly China property bonds now for the last year or so. You talked earlier about central banks trying to get ahead of the inflation piece and in focus today is the reserve bank of Australia. If we continue to see this aggressive tightening though by so many developed central banks, how much does that weigh on economies, we certainly sort of feel that the RBA could be behind the Pacquiao. Well, the IBA of course finds itself in a somewhat challenging and difficult position, advising previously that rate hikes were off the table. That's very clearly not the case. And perhaps there is a degree of catch up in terms of trying to get to ahead of the curve or even flat to the curve. Obviously, there are some pretty embedded and worrisome inflation pressures, not least stemming from the demand side, which of course is all derived from wages. So I do think it's necessary that RBA is seen to raise by 50 basis points or so and subsequent hikes before the end of the year. Inflation is a critical risk to the Australian economy, but particularly regarding the resources and housing sector. And so we think that this front loaded tightening is probably inevitable and actually also necessary. John 30 seconds, if you had to be long an industry group right now or a specific market, what would it be? Well, right now we are very much focused on U.S. equities, particularly the tech sector in our view as growth decelerates as interest rates are repriced downward. This is precisely the macro environment that we think tech outperforms and indeed we're seeing signs of that already particularly in the NASDAQ where essentially breaking to new highs. This is

All right, thank you, Douglas, White House says Al-Qaeda leader. I'm an Alzheimer has been killed by a U.S. drone strike in Afghanistan. President Biden will address the nation tonight. It is looking more and more as if Nancy Pelosi has Doug mentioned will be making a stop in Taiwan and her Asia trip, then no official official a confirmation from either Pelosi or The White House, but Bloomberg sources say she will land tonight. A national security adviser spokesman John Kirby on Bloomberg says their indications that China could respond with missile launches and straight fly throughs. The Guardian reporting the British House of Commons foreign affairs committee is planning to visit Taiwan probably in November, the U.S. State Department says Russia is using a Ukrainian nuclear plant as a nuclear shield. The secretary general of the United Nations Antonio Guterres has given the dire warning that the world is one step away from nuclear annihilation. In San Francisco, Ahmed Baxter, this is Bloomberg, Rashad. All right, well, we got The White House urging China not to escalate tensions with the United States in response to House speaker Nancy Pelosi's anticipated or expected visit to Taiwan. Max Balkans, former U.S. ambassador to China spoke about the trip earlier with Bloomberg's David Weston, his part of that chat. I think it's a mistake for the speaker to go to Taipei. The goal of foreign policy expected China is to reduce tensions, not to increase tensions. And her visit to Taiwan will clearly increase tension. The relationship U.S. trans already fraught with difficulties, the relationship is going south. There's not yet seen to be a floor on the deterioration. And there's really no foreign policy reason for British gold. Taiwan knows that we've got their back. It made respect for Senate arms and the officials go to Taiwan. They know that. Speaker doesn't have to go to show U.S. result with respect to Taiwan. Taiwan is existential to China. When I was serving as ambassador to China, I can not think of anything that was drilled into me more over and over just how important a Taiwan is. It's a core issue, along with Tibet, along with Hong Kong, the Chinese government. After that, president Xi Jinping is going to be probably reelected in 20th party Congress and coming to November session. And he has to appear strong. And with all the Chinese rhetoric that this potential visit will actually increase tensions means that he's got to look strong if he wants to be reelected. Bottom line, this visit increases tension, and that's therefore not a good idea. So, mister ambassador, why is she doing it? I mean, we have these congressional delegations that go out. You've been a lot of them yourself. Do you normally check with the state member of The White House? I mean, is this something she would have checked with The White House? And I asked this question in part because I wonder if president Xi thinks whatever President Biden says, he must have implicitly agreed to this. Well, it's a good question. I wonder myself why she's going. She has the speaker to help that position for many, many years. She wants to go. She probably expects her not to be speaker after this next reelection. So she wants to go out on top basically. After that, she cares a lot about the issues she's been very, very involved with the issue. And I think that's why she's going. Now, The White House says, well gee, there's separation of powers between the speaker and the executive branch. I don't think the Chinese believe that. I also think that if the President Biden really did not want her to go private telephone call in private session, he would probably listen to his wishes. Foreign policy is generally conducted by the executive branch. More and more as the world is getting more complicated, Congress is getting more involved too, but it's not mine, it's a mistake. I think she's going because this is the last real chance before she's no longer speaker. And it's important to her. All right, that of course was max baucus there talking to our very own David Weston. And it does come against his backdrop also, Bryant certainly we've had high level visits to Taiwan from U.S. officials, but nothing to this kind of pay grade as it were here as well. Bipartisan delegations lawmakers, such as Robert Menendez, in April, we've got, of course, all these meetings are met with a big week hue and cry out of Beijing. It also comes against a backdrop, I guess here too. The economy there also is suffering, we've got a lot of pull out of equities and foreign outflows and that the Taiwan dollar down to 30 below 30 yesterday and that was the lowest that we've had since 2020, Brian. Yeah, some possible actions that shine might take. It's fair to mention some one might be firing missiles into the Taiwan strait. Could be just some sort of military operations launch to send some sort of message. I don't think anyone thinks that they would actually shoot the plane down. But then crossing the unofficial no fly zone between Taiwan and the mainland might be something that they would do possibly as well. I mean, after all, it's happened once before with Newt Gingrich, but like you say, there have been other congressional representatives, but that's not the same as the speaker. The speaker is the third in line to the presidency

"With him There is no clear evidence that he's pulling all of his forces out in prison There is also evidence that he is beefing up his troops down in the Donbass area Depending on your view of Putin I'm a little skeptical Yeah so troops to the Donbass region He says which leads Bloomberg's Joshua to basically question as to whether Putin is just sort of reshuffling forces or whether he's actually sort of narrowing his ambitions to the donbas and sort of similar regions in the east and south And the U.S. State Department and defense coming out at the same time about an hour ago saying that they believe that Russian troops are going to Belarus to be resupplied and then to be sent elsewhere Now there's some better news out of the south around Mary pool We're about 630 people were able to be evacuated There are reports of some corridors also established elsewhere but also getting supplies in is very tough Biden meanwhile says Putin may have put some advisers under what he termed house arrest He says Putin has become isolated from anybody or anything that made doubt his actions Shanghai will lift the eastern lockdown today with some compounds to remain sealed because of COVID infections Bloomberg TV anchor of on man says there are some caveats That people that are living in buildings with positive cases they still have to go through a quarantine of another 14 days and those if you're living in a different building but the same compound but also nearby a buildings near these compounds that have positive cases You ask yourself a restrictive movement for 7 days And this announcement comes as a western part of the city will enter a four day lockdown today Over 5600 cases yesterday in China as a whole a slight decline from the day before U.S. State Department says China's crackdown and democracy in Hong Kong only intensified in the past year The department of report released today says over the past year the Chinese government has continued to dismantle Hong Kong's democratic institutions put unprecedented pressure on the judiciary and stifle academic cultural and press freedoms In San Francisco I'm Ed Baxter This is Bloomberg Brian All right thanks very much Ed the time here 8 minutes past the hour Let's get to our guest It's Frank Ben zimrah He'll be with us the whole half hour he's head of Asia equity strategy at societe general Okay so Frank we've got the war an angry Russia an aggressive fed a COVID outbreak in China and U.S. China relations Sell Sell now ask questions later Well when you are saying that like this it's a lot What we insist on under that sexual is the title of our latest set of allocation outlook Fed tackling inflation head on And that's really where we think that the narrative of the market is going to be on at least on the next 12 months is what is going to do and the need to feel the gap between where interest rates should be where they are now without damaging the economy And that's really for us main topic of the market And it means that we are reducing risk at the end So that's the way I said it was dramatic Very quietly we are reducing risk What is in your view Frank the likelihood of a recession and what parts of the curve are you looking at here Okay so a couple of things here So first of all if you look at the New York fed recession indicator it's very low It's around 10% or probably a little bit below If you look at the yield curve and the share is ten to it is given a higher probability more than the third in the next 12 months And historically it has been a good indicator of a recession but not with a very good timing And then you have also something which is quite important to take into account not from an economic point of view but purely from a market point of view is you can have some period and history It can be up to 12 months where the yield curve is inverting but the equity market is rising as well So it's not because today we are reaching a negative curve that you want to sell the market But again I am going to repeat what I've just said It's a time when we should de risk We should expect to see a higher price of community for longer So we want to get the exposure to commodities whether on the U.S. market or elsewhere Okay Frank hold on We're up against the clock I want to ask you about the tongue con as well It's not a great number It was a little better.

China's president Xi Jinping amid growing tensions with North Korea January half reporting no date has been announced White House will seek $813.3 billion national security budget as a NATO nations prepare to meet tomorrow It has moved more troops to the borders of Ukraine NATO secretary general Jens Stoltenberg is warning Russia against making threats that could escalate the war So tomorrow NATO the group of 7 and EU me Searchers have found the voice recorder of the China eastern plane that crash and it has been sent out for analysis Hong Kong may yet mass test residents chief executive Carrie lam says as cases fall the city would like to identify the remaining cases and the South Korean government has asked crematories to increase their capacity and funeral homes to secure more refrigerators amid a surge In San Francisco I'm Ed Baxter this is Bloomberg All right guys back All right thanks very much We're joined this half hour by Alex wolf hit of Asian investment strategy at JPMorgan private bank And Alex you will describing how you are cautious around the Chinese equity space but are there any other assets where you have a bit more of a risk appetite Yeah and to clarify with regards to China we're cautious on the offshore so cautious on say I'm a CI China time tech We still do like onshore though As we see as we see some movements towards policy using as we see as well the rhetoric in terms of in terms of support for the economy and support for the market likely to benefit onshore more so than offshore Other than that we still do like we sort of like the U.S. from a global perspective We think the U.S. is a bit more insulated from the conflict in Ukraine We see fundamentals in terms of household savings in terms of continued retail sales still stronger than still stronger in the U.S. compared to other regions And from a sector perspective as we're moving into late cycle And as we see yields rising we do like financials as well we like things linked to commodities So say energy equities generally commodity linked equities where we see as providing some buffer against inflation So Alex I know you're a former economics officer with the U.S. State Department I'm curious to get your take on the relationship between Beijing and Moscow economic ties here that seem to have been solidified when she and Putin met at the Olympics in early February And now we know about the imposition of sanctions How difficult is it going to be for China to navigate this new framework Yeah it will it will be difficult In that the economic relationship with the west is still far more significant when you think about how much is exported to Europe how much is export to the U.S. critical components that are imported in terms of technology as well as the fact that most technology exports out of China are multinational invested So that's an economic relationship They will have to continue to protect And so it is a very difficult balancing act and I suspect I'll continue to recalibrate how they manage manage and protect those economic relations which are very much in their own best interests with this more political ideological relationship with Russia But there are no stranger to difficult balancing acts as we've seen over Chinese diplomatic history So I suspect we'll continue to see some calibration and likely see some further clarification in the next couple of days as they are increasingly forced by the rest of the world to make more of a clear choice I want to take a look at some more domestic policy in China and particularly the policy around COVID The rest of the world's moved on to living with COVID Now when do you see China caving into economic pressure and doing the same It's hard to say because the path the path of omicron and given what we're seeing it here in Hong Kong very much the hand was very much forced here in Hong Kong In terms of a crime really taking off similar to South Korea as well China it does appear though that they are still pursuing zero COVID policies We're seeing while trying to make their response to outbreaks more nuance still seeing lockdowns in a number of cities and still prioritizing zero COVID So we don't think it's hard to say what will happen with this way But if this wave can be brought under control I don't think that China is ready to open this year So looking at early next year because you're going to see need to see a number of steps including increased vaccinations amongst elderly booster shots amongst the wider population Solidifying a hospital network outside tier one cities things that really need to happen before they can consider reopening We haven't even mentioned the fed and its bias now to tighten pretty aggressively to get inflation under control Very quickly in about 30 seconds or so Alex what does that mean for the dollar going forward And how might that impact your strategy We don't think it means that much To be quite brief in that it would mean a lot if the fed were moving alone and the rest of the world were holding rates roughly stable but we see inflation really as a global a global phenomenon and we seek global major central banks also hiking more or less in line with the fed So the rate differential should move all that much and it should provide that significant of support to the dollar So we see it more range bound.

"The U.S. State Department is warning Americans against travel to the United Arab Emirates It's now pointing to concerns over missile and their own attacks in addition to risks from COVID-19 as reasons to avoid visiting some old fox more on this So Simone how does this travel advisory get implemented in practice for Americans who are looking to get to either to buy or Abu Dhabi for example Well if there are a lot of countries who have similar travel warnings but the words here are scary So the U.S. advisory saying that recent missile and drone attacks have targeted populated areas and civilian infrastructure Of course that would be concerning to anyone going the UK has an even more frankly concerning line in its travel advisory saying that terrorists are very likely to try and carry out attacks in the UAE So no surprise here that we're going to be very closely tracking tourist arrivals and business visitor arrivals to the UAE over the next couple of weeks particularly if these attacks continue However particularly on the U.S. side there are plenty of countries that have similar sorts of warnings Saudi Arabia for one where there is also a warning against attacks from Houthi rebels emanating from Yemen also Mexico lots of Americans go to Mexico but there are violent crime and kidnapping warnings through a lot of various districts in Mexico folks still go Again this is something we're going to be watching Also noting that that COVID-19 advisory that you mentioned there 88 countries are on the tier four top tier of the list and the American travel advisory thing for not to go to that country because of COVID So UAE certainly not alone there Simone Fitch has also come out with their report on Kuwait the credit rating they've taken an axe to it What was the size of the chip that they took out of Kuwait And what's the rationale for this Rationale the scene that we've been hearing from credit agencies for a while political constraints Their words lack of meaningful fiscal adjustment particularly in response to recent movement in oil prices And again they believe that a debt law to issue debts the mind or the country has not been able to issue debt for several years will actually finally get past this year they point to strong balance sheets for Kuwait and that's why they're leaving this at double-A Relatively high investment grade We haven't seen immediate impact in the markets and the credit markets or in CDS however And there are really two reasons behind this One is that Fitch's rating is still one notch higher than S&P and moody's But the other point is that we've been seeing yields on kuwaiti debt The stuff that is outstanding move higher ever since September against GCC yields overall So it suggests that investors have indeed been concerned and that's reflected in the decision from Fitch out yesterday And then Dubai says that RF naqvi the founder of the defunct abraj group is going to pay a $136 million of a fine What else did the judgment lay out He's also going to be banned from the DI FC And this really a closing chapter one of several probably closing chapters in this very embarrassing incident around the collapse of abraj group One of the few private equity firms in this region The Dubai financial services authority implementing this penalty Though this could be reviewed and changed by a tribunal that's going to continue to look at this The next stage here is really for criminal charges that knock V faces in the United States right now He is in the UK awaiting extradition there We'll see how that goes And if that finally closes the book on this again I'm very embarrassing episode for private equity in this region Yeah to say the least reputational damage was huge Simone thank you very much is huge Simone faxon thank you at the financial center in Doha We've touched on it before Oil prices are triggering nervous reaction One could say in The White House we're up just shy of $90 Joseph at 89 94 nymex at 87 78 It's interesting city who talked about excess supply coming later in the year They actually raised their prices targets yesterday by $4 in the first quarter to $79 They talk about a near term tightness and they raise Q two and Q three by another couple of bucks as well So it looks like city in the near term are thrown in the towel on the dining side Yeah I mean inventory is at the key U.S. storage hub at Cushing Phil Again last week and it hit the lowest level for this year of for this time of year in a decade And then the oil product consumption was at its highest level for the time of the year and at least 30 years So that gives you a bit of a sense of how the supply side of the equation is shrinking quite a bit In terms of equity futures here's the state of play we're currently called a little bit higher here on the S&P 500 mini by about 7 tenths of 1% Yeah you still got.

"Us tonight Always nice to talk to you Jim Let's start off We're talking specifics here about Visa I guess although certainly the associations of corporate America with the Chinese government as repressive as it is are getting to be embarrassingly lengthy why are we talking about Visa principally tonight Well because just yesterday Jim I had the opportunity to submit a question to the annual shareholder meeting of Visa to the CEO Alfred Kelly asking them specifically about their sponsorship So their shareholder meeting was very timely as you noted the Olympic Games are starting in just a few short weeks here in Beijing and I kind of wanted a very simple question I thought apparently Visa thought it was a very complicated question But I put forward this that the U.S. State Department has declared that there is genocide being committed by the CCP the Chinese Communist Party against a minority Muslim population known as the Uyghurs in the Xi Jinping province of China And whether or not Visa as a sponsor of the Olympics recognized and accepted that U.S. State Department finding and if they did why they would continue to sponsor what many are calling and I am calling the genocide Olympics And it was to my surprise that the leadership at Visa the CEO of Kelly his board of directors in the C suite they refused to even acknowledge the issue They wouldn't acknowledge what they are sponsoring Just sit back and think about that for a second An American company a well-known brand if folks opened up their purses or their wallets and they pulled out some cards I am quite sure that a large percentage of your audience would have one or two or three or more cards that have a Visa logo on them Yeah including absolutely This company won't even address what they are sponsoring It's a very embarrassing I put it this way It is not particularly honest or forthright to do what they did but to give the fact that they did and there is aware of what you pointed out as you were it's not surprising I guess that if you're going to do something that you know is shameful and deceitful that you would not be too interested in talking about it of course obviously that avoids your big question If it's so difficult that you don't want to talk about it why did you do it And I think we all know the answer to that because they think they'll make big bucks Isn't that pretty much what it's about The hell with decency we're here to make money Well that's one point absolutely sure And the second follow-up point is that is that they didn't think there would be a me Right They didn't think there would be adjusted coming to their shareholder meeting and exacting and demanding answers for what they did And that also speaks volumes to the fact that corporate America has gotten away with going so far woke and so far crazy because they're not held to account And so I'm here to tell your listeners guess what As you said Jim if you opened your wallet you have Visa cards But guess what Visa has more than 3 million shareholders in the United States of America alone That's lots of voices that are shareholders let alone customers right And so there are lots of individuals and entities not just individuals but entities in the United States of America that have power and sway over Visa that they're not using And so I am for your listeners if you're a customer of Visa guess what They have this line called customer relations There's an email There's a phone number If you're an investor they have a whole device dedicated to you called investor relations They haven't emailed They have a phone number And so the more that we engage with these folks the more we can influence corporate decision making And again this is something that happens all of the time on the political left but seems to be a dearth on the political right where the political rights seems to ignore business behavior Again they are sponsoring the genocidal Olympics because they thought no one would hold them to account I'm not so sure that it is the right that doesn't care I think the rights view would be oh I can make the phone call but it's not going to do any good They've already made up their mind They're not going to listen to me I don't think it's the case of not caring I think it's a case of not being believing you'll have any impact Oh you will Let me tell you Jim I've been in this fight I've been fighting against rope capitalism since about 7 years before the term was invented The term wasn't even invented until 2015 Okay And I have watched as corporate America from we're talking about credit card companies soft drink companies airlines you name it have started to move in lockstep with the political left And they've.

"When it comes to women in cybersecurity. It's fair to say that progress has been made. There are more women in the field and in higher positions than ever before. that said. There is still much to be done are you. K- correspondent karol -tario shares. This commentary. i have worked in d. cybersecurity world for probably twenty four years. And there's one thing that i can say but industry. It is never boring because every day someone somewhere is putting out some information about an attack or a proof of concept or vulnerability. Dangerous apps dodgy deep fakes social engineering attacks. I mean the list goes on. There's this constant fight between people trying to protect data and information and those trying to steal or take information. And that makes it a truly exhilarating industry to be in. But one of the downsides for me at the time was there. wasn't that many women in strong technical roles or leadership roles or board level. It was a very male dominated environment and i think it would have been immeasurably better had we had more female input in the mix. I mean sure. It is way better now than it was when i first started. Now you will see women head up. Large teams present. Keynotes in research at conferences develop cyber defenses. But i'll tell you. Men still outnumber women by an embarrassing gap according to i s c squared in their women in cybersecurity report women represent basically one in three and compensation is not yet considered equitable quote women in cybersecurity managerial positions. Earn about five thousand dollars less than men indicating they're still an issue that needs to be addressed unquote but and this is a happy it. there is a shift. According to isd squared of companies hiring more women in high positions women also seemed to be more educated. This may be down to inequities in compensation and the way. Women are dealing with that is by presenting themselves by having more education and more certifications than their male counterparts. Smart move because these women that are coming into the industry now will be our future leaders. And i want them to have all the qualities that any good leader has experience wisdom now and a strategic mindset and you get there by learning by failing by risking these are all.

"As the taliban consolidates control over afghanistan it has established checkpoints and his conducting house-to-house searches to find collaborators with the former regime the washington post reports according to nbc news. Afghans are purging their social media accounts in an effort to remove all signs of connection with western nations international human rights groups the afghan military or the recently collapsed afghan government among the content. That people fear might suggest. Such connection are items that are commonly shared in social media. Quote three people in kabul told. Nbc news that they had deleted documents and photos from their phones that might provoke the ire of the taliban including photos with afghan officials. Pictures of the afghan flag and photos with foreign colleagues much of the deleted content is most likely hosted on social media platforms like facebook and quote taliban fighters at checkpoints are demanding that people seeking to pass turn their phones over for inspection retired. Us army general. David portray portrays former commander of central command and former director of central intelligence speaking at the atlantic council event this morning disputed characterizations of conditions in afghanistan as an intelligence failure. He says on the contrary that it was a failure of strategic patience quoting at length and with approval from an op. ed in the new york times by former. Us ambassador to afghanistan ryan c crocker published saturday. This crocker argued and portray us agreed is historically common american. Failing betray his thinks one likely sequel to the taliban seizure of power will be the formation of a number of virtual calif. It's similar to the ones isis established during its ascendancy and that this seems to be the likeliest form in which afghanistan may foster terrorism if they follow the isis playbook the virtual caliphates will be heavy on inspiration and they'll quickly exploited ungoverned territory to reestablish themselves does the taliban face obstacles in cyberspace and kinetic space according to portray us they do quote the taliban is broke blights could literally go out in kabul and they are likely to be unable to deliver basic services and quote. The new regime is likely to remain heavily dependent on foreign largesse which is now less likely to materialize. And what of the conduct of the evacuation itself various scenarios have been played out by the planners atreya said and evacuation would have been one of them. But it's quite another matter to do that when a government collapses suddenly and it's difficult to run noncombatant evacuation for what in effect is a very large and imprecisely defined refugee population. He said quote. Now that we've decided to do this. It's been going on very impressively and quote but noted that the us has written a very significant blank check with respect to evacuation washington must decide who gets into the airport. Gets a plane ride out and where that plane goes and then and this is the hard call who doesn't get out whatever happens. It's likely to figure in. Future taliban influence operations saturday afternoon fox news broke the story that the us state department had come under. Cyberattack state has as is its policy neither confirmed nor denied the report but reuters said that a knowledgeable source told them without confirming any incident that the state department has not experienced significant disruptions and has not had its operations impeded in any way a state department. Spokesperson said quote. The department takes seriously its responsibility to safeguard its information and continuously take steps to ensure information is protected for security reasons. We are not in a position to discuss the nature or scope of any alleged cyber security incidents at this time and quote restore privacy said late last week that shiny hunters are claiming on raid for him to have stolen a large quantity of customer data from. At and t. and t.'s. some of the data in a leak that solicited buyers for the information. At and t. Said that wherever the data came from it wasn't from them. The company told restore privacy based on our investigation today. The information that appeared in an internet chat room does not appear to have come from our systems restore privacy sees at and t.'s. characterization of raid forum as an internet chat room as an attempt to minimize raid forums importance. That seems unduly puritanical raid. Form is basically a chat platform that it's been widely used by criminals beyond dispute. But there seems no reason to try to accord them. Unusual effect the shiny hunters have invited. At and t. To negotiate the unreleased. Data's return intel four seven. One offers an interesting review of who the shiny hunters are including the oh mosh to poke him on embedded in the gangs name. They described the shiny hunters most profitable and most dangerous actions at each stage of the mitre attack. Framework security firm huntress labs reported also at the end of last week that unpacked microsoft exchange servers. Continue to be prospected for known vulnerabilities and we note in a spirit of disclosure. That microsoft is a sponsor of the cyber wire. Much of the exploitation has been conducted by proxy shell. Late this morning hunters added that they've discerned a new technique in the attackers approach quote while analyzing one host that was compromised with both proxy. Shell and the lock file ransomware. We uncovered a unique. T. t. p. That we had not seen before for proxy shell activity. The configuration file for the exchange internet service was modified to include a new virtual directory which practically redirects one url endpoint to another location on the file system. This allows a threat actor to hide a web. Shell in other uncommon and nonstandard locations.
