Biden's Justice Dept. keeps hard line in death row cases

"President Biden, as opposed to capital punishment, but his administration is pushing forward with federal executions. An Associated Press review of dozens of legal filings shows President Biden's Justice Department is fighting just as vigorously as Donald Trump's did to uphold a sentences of death row inmates. Death penalty opponents had expected the administration to end federal executions. Attorney general Merrick Garland did impose a moratorium in 2021, noting concerns about how capital punishment disproportionately impacts people of color, and there's a lack of consistency in its application. Although the pauses lifted, Garland has not authorized any new death penalty cases and reverse 27 that had been sought, but there are dozens more capital punishment cases being pursued by the Justice Department. Trump lawyer in court after being forced before grand jury

"A lawyer for Donald Trump at no comment after leaving a Washington D.C. federal court, where he was ordered to appear before a grand jury investigating the handling of classified documents. Attorney Evan corcoran's appearance stems from an order from a federal judge who ruled in favor of a Justice Department request that corcoran answer questions before the grand jury. In a previous appearance he had invoked attorney client privilege to decline answering certain questions. But prosecutors can get around that. If they can show the client is using the lawyer in furtherance of a crime. Corcoran had drafted a letter last June, asserting that a diligent search for classified documents had been done and said all records had been provided. That was just weeks before a raid at Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate, where prosecutors say the FBI removed roughly 100 additional classified documents. I'm Jackie Quinn

Why a Trump Indictment Is the Biden Regime's "Nuclear Option"

"Want to just read some headlines here. Let's start with this one. Trump indictment is Biden regime's nuclear option in the war on America, Darren, that's from your website revolver news, explain. Absolutely. It's the nuclear option and for obvious reasons due to its implications. It's simply unprecedented. It's unprecedented for the Department of Justice to criminally indict former president like this. And it's deeply, deeply dangerous. For reasons that president Ford described in talking about why he pardoned Nixon for matters that were far more serious than whatever's at issue here, payments from Trump's own pocket for something that isn't really that big of an issue. But if we establish this precedent that presidents can be expected to be indicted by the Justice Department run by a leader of an imposing party, then we truly do descend into banana boat territory. And it's not, it's even worse than that, because Trump isn't simply a former president. He continues to be the leader of the maga America first movement that is the preeminent challenge to Biden, Biden regime, not just in a general sense, but in the very specific sense that he's the FrontRunner for the GOP nomination.

Trump lawyer ordered to turn over Mar-a-Lago case documents

"A lawyer for Donald Trump has been ordered to turn over material as prosecutors examine whether the former president or his allies obstructed efforts to recover classified documents that have been stored at Mar-a-Lago. A brief online notice by the D.C. Court of Appeals panel indicates that the attorney has been directed to turn over evidence related to the investigation into the mishandling of classified documents, the case is sealed, but the details appear to correspond with a lower court fight over whether M Evan corcoran could be forced to provide documents or testify in the probe. The Justice Department has been looking into why Trump and his representatives resisted demands to return the classified material, it suggests the appeals court sided with prosecutors, who argue that Trump was using his attorneys to further a crime, corcoran drafted a statement to the DoJ that was signed by another trunk lawyer, Christina bob, asserting that a diligent search for classified documents had been conducted, that claim proved false after FBI agents raided Trump's Florida estate. "Breaking news out today has me convinced that TikTok is either going to be sold to an American company or it will cease to exist in the United States of America. News just coming in about a report that this Chinese company is not only spying on probably everyone, but specifically American journalists, the Biden Justice Department is now launching an investigation into this. The news comes amid reports that the company has been considering a potential spin off it's been talking to bankers allegedly. You know, this feels like deja vu. Does it not? I mean, did we not just go through this with Donald Trump a few years ago, member Larry Ellison from Oracle was about to buy it? We're looking at TikTok. We may be banning TikTok. We may be doing some other things. There are a couple of options. Here we go again.

Joe Rogan Drops Major J6 Truth Bomb and Julie Kelly Reacts

"This tape last hour, but I find this to be unbelievably persuasive and Julie, I think you'll enjoy hearing it. Cut 70 9 is Joe Rogan and Michael malice reacting in real time. It's as if you had a private hidden camera of how they react to the footage that is now being made public to people that are not right wing ideologues by any measure. Play cut 79, please. Right, you're not supposed to go into the capitol building. Grant. I thought you were not like that. Yeah, I don't like that idea. Not like that. But when you see the people taking them around, essentially on a tour. That's not what I thought it was. Not even defending them. It's just forget about it. Let's look at what actually happened. We didn't know that happened. Right. We had a version of it was just chaos and the cops ran away. And cops were murdered. I would have never imagined that this. I've shocked to see that. That's so wild. And so I think people are just starting to recognize that it's not what you thought it was. So Julie, that clip is very powerful. What is your reaction? To not just that clip, but this idea that finally the American people can get educated and informed of what happened on January 6th. And while you're at it, tell us about potential Brady violations as well. So Charlie, that's very similar to the response that I got from a lot of people. Even people who have been sort of following January 6th that they were expecting some bombshells, but not to the level that what Tucker presented on Monday and Tuesday. When you see what happened with Jacob chansley, completely railroaded by his Justice Department, get this, Charlie. I really looked up his documents today. Jacob chansley, as we now see walking peacefully around building accompanied by numerous capital police officers, that was January 6th on January 11th, 5 days later, a grand jury in Washington D.C. handed down several crimes against Jacob chandley 5 days later. It's like this was preset ready to go this DoJ D.C. U.S. attorney's office had all of the charges collected that they were going to use against these people. John Solomon Unpacks the Decision to Investigate Trump

"Some more information and another story about how the decision was made to investigate Trump and how that was actually just a politicized thing, which we all knew, but again, now it's coming out this much later that that also was purely politically driven. Yeah, this is a very important thing. Citizens united day bossy conservative watchdog group of file to foil lawsuit for your battle. They finally got some early documents. What these are are interviews that key players in the Russia investigation gave to the Justice Department watchdog the inspector general. And what the attorney general Loretta lynch former attorney general for president Obama, Joe Biden revealed is that the effort to begin raising questions about Donald Trump and Russia collusion began much earlier than July 31st, 2016 when operation crossfire hurricane that now discredited Russia collusion probe. It actually began in the spring and it began with the New York FBI office opening up counterintelligence inquiry on Carter page, one of the advisers to Donald Trump. And though this would be a low level thing that, by the way, raises a lot of questions in itself because Carter page was a CIA asset, no reason to suspect he was up the wrongdoing. It got all the way to the top of James Comey and Andrew mccabe very quickly. That's odd. Very odd for that to come in. And they go to Loretta lynch and say, hey, we may have a problem with the Trump adviser just letting you know, sidebar conversation. But probably the right thing to do is just give Donald Trump a defensive briefing. Let him know that there might be Russians targeting his campaign. Now that would have been the right thing to do. But that's not what James Comey, Andrew mccabe, ultimately, do they open up the ultimately open up that crazy investigation that gets discredited. And it basically turns out to be a political dirty trick carried out by Hillary Clinton and her team. But imagine how much history could have changed if back in the springtime, Andy mccabe and James Comey did what lynch suggested. And just did a defensive briefing three years of the Trump presidency, probably wouldn't have been a squandered.

Jim Hanson and John Solomon Talk FBI Threat Tags

"Welcome back to America first with our very special guest, uncle Jimbo. It's Jim Hansen. Good to be with you, everybody, and I am especially happy to be joined this segment with John Solomon, who is the proprietor of just the news. They do the actual investigative work and dig into the many bad things going on. One of which is more evidence of government abuse of power to attack political opponents. This is the FBI shockingly, but a different version of their ongoing stuff. What do you got, John? Yeah, Jim, good to be with you. This is a really important thing. What we're hearing from multiple whistleblowers who have gone to Congress gone to the inspector general of the Justice Department is that FBI ideologues are beginning to use a thing called threat tag. So that tax would normally reserved for terrorists or extremists who are likely to commit violent acts against Americans. And these threat tags are now being used. We first heard about them. They were applied for a period of time until it was called a mistake to parents who were protesting curriculum changes at school board minis. Clearly not terrorists, right? Then we heard recently that the Richmond office of the FBI did a memo that applied thread tags to Catholics who prefer Latin mass. I'm not sure why preferring a Latin mass would make you a terrorist, but for a while they did, the FBI set up, that was a mistake. Now, a new whistleblower has come out in the last couple of days and said, the same thing was going on. They were implying threat tags to anti abortion pro life activists. Now, what's really interesting about this is that there was a threat tag originally created for pro abortion forces who were threatening death to Supreme Court Justices who were talking about reversing roe V wade, which they did. All right, that's a legitimate use of a threat tag. If someone's actually thinking of assassinating justice, that is a legitimate use. But very quickly after the abortion threat tag was created, it was flipped around by ideological according to this whistleblower to go after pro life activists who had posed no mortal threat. They

China Accuses US of Aggression

"So as I explained in the last segment, our policies and behavior towards China has been anything much confrontational. In fact, it has been quite soft and cowardly. One of the biggest things that we did was just send 100 to 200 more troops to Taiwan. When I reported on that last week on my showtime, was someone wrote into me and said, I think you got that number wrong. And I said, no, I didn't. It's 100 to 200. So hardly anything to write home to mom about, but nevertheless, China is accusing us of aggression. And I was providing some examples of the many ways that China is the aggressor in the United States and towards other foreign powers. But back to what I was discussing, I was mentioning that in 2022, the Justice Department found and charged several Chinese Communist Party affiliates for planning to violently attack a U.S. House of representative candidate for New York's tenth congressional district named Jiang Yang. He is a Chinese American and during his campaign. He spoke out very harshly against the CCP and against communism and again these Chinese affiliates tried to target him and assassinate him and luckily it was uncovered, but just yet another example of China's aggression. I also mentioned that they have opened several overseas police stations around the world, including one in New York City. Chinese officials have said that this is necessary to provide quote unquote vital services for Chinese citizens living in the United States, but isn't that what an embassy does?

After Taylor shooting, feds find pattern of violations

"The Justice Department says an investigation of Louisville's police department after the fatal shooting of a black woman three years ago has found a pattern of violating constitutional rights. Attorney general Merrick Garland says the misconduct ranges from discriminating against black people to assaulting the disabled, using excessive force and carrying out searches based on invalid warrants. This conduct is unacceptable. It is heartbreaking. The probe started after Louisville police fatally shot Breonna Taylor in her home. The warrant used to enter is now part of a federal criminal investigation. The city has made several changes in both police leadership and policies, including banning no knock warrants, Sagar Meghani at The White House.

"With a two year 4.96%, stocks dropped the dollar client as Jay Powell signaled the peak and interest rates could be higher than anticipated after data showed both inflation and the labor market are running hot. His hawkish tone during a Senate testimony today pushed the S&P down by as much as 1% right now the S&P recovering very slightly down 9 tenths of 1% down 36 points at 4012. The Dow down 355, a drop there of 1.1% as stacked down 50, a drop there of four tenths of 1%. Again, that tenure worth repeating 3.94% but the two year 4.97%. Reaction to Powell's testimony from Ira Jersey, Bloomberg's chief interest rate strategist, who has interviewed moments ago right here on Bloomberg markets. They think importantly is that he didn't make that many dovish statements. One of the big things that has come out of a lot of the fed statements and even some of the speeches, particularly from the chair, is that starting about last October, November, they started to have more dovish statements. Still the same hawkishness, but more dovish statements kind of with risk management, you didn't hear that today. So our model suggests that his sentiment today was somewhat more hawkish than they have been the last couple of months. Bloomberg's high Jersey again, that ten year 3.94, the two year 4.97 S&P down 9 tenths of 1% the Dow down 1.1%, NASDAQ down by about .45%. We told you about it yesterday today, the U.S. Justice Department is challenging JetBlue's $3.8 billion acquisition of spirit airlines filing an antitrust lawsuit seeking to block the deal. I'm not asking about the FBI. You are the attorney general. Give me your answer. Do you think that it was objectively reasonable and they followed your guidelines? In sending 20 to 30 armed agents to terrorize these people. Yes or no. The facts I have, which are those presented by the FBI are not consistent with your description. We're supposed to hate long guns and assault style weapons. You're happy to deploy them against Catholics and innocent children. Happy to. And then you haul them into court in a jury acquits him in one hour. I just suggest to you that that is a disgraceful performance by your Justice Department and a disgraceful use of resources. Amen, senator hawley, expand on that. Well, listen, Charlie, I mean, here's the thing. In Merrick Garland's Justice Department and then Joe Biden's America. If you want to execute somebody in the streets of this country gang style, they don't do anything. If you want to smuggle fentanyl across the border and engage in human trafficking, they turn a blind eye. But if you go to church, or if you consider yourself a traditional Christian or traditional Catholic or what have you, then they think that you're a terrorist and they treat you like one. This Justice Department sent 30 S.W.A.T. agents FBI agents to the home of this pro life demonstrator, a law abiding citizen in the early morning hours to do what to terrorize him. He was acquitted later by a jury of his peers in less than an hour. That shows you the priorities of this Justice Department. It's wrong and it needs to be exposed. Yeah,

"Benny shifting gears here a little bit. You've been on top of this story. I haven't touched it or covered it at all. Let me tell you my little campus stuff and you know this to great detail and you've had some wonderful takes on it. The Garland hearing. Benny, what happened in the Garland hearing? So the public beating has not gone out of style, Charlie. That used to be tar and feather. It used to be running out of town on the rails and the old colonial days. For some odd reason we got rid of the stocks in the middle of the city. But the public beating exists today, just exists in the form of the congressional hearing. And Republicans delivered bombshell after blow after pistol whipping to Merrick Garland and that 70 year old man deserved it. That little keebler elf had his feet held to the fire and not just the fires that cooked the cookies and shot of the tree that he lives in, making cookies. He got burned yesterday. And it was bad. I listen, there was not a single stone left unturned. Hunter Biden, Joe Biden. Attacking Catholics attacking Christians. I think that was probably one of the harshest lines of questioning by Josh hawley. And Ted Cruz went after Kavanaugh, the Supreme Court Justices being threatened, a man wandering through Brett Kavanaugh's neighborhood with full tactical gear on, ready to kill him, admittedly. And the Justice Department doing absolutely nothing. So if you're a meemaw and you have a 25% American flag and the capital police usher you into the U.S. capitol, you get put on the terrorist watch list and you spend the rest of your life in jail. But if you are a man kitted out in tactical gear with deadly weapons and you go up to kill a Supreme Court Justice that was appointed by president Trump, you get a ticket to the chocolate factory, okay? You get to go to go to the candy shop. Merritt Garland kitten club. And look, the more laws the less justice. So Garland is choosing what laws to enforce based on his own political revenge. Look, Merrick Garland is a craven old man who is bitter. He's bitter he never became a Supreme Court Justice. He's bitter that seat remained open. Remember, Barack Obama put Garland up for that seat and the turtle to his great credit, Mitch McConnell refused to put it up for vote. It was one of the great things that the parliamentarian of the Senate from Kentucky ever did and he does deserve credit for it, and we won that shock election in 16 and Gorsuch filled the seat that Garland wanted.

I think the main thing from my personal experience is that the people inside the fed tend to be very, very focused on what their mandate is and they try to block out the political noise that a degree humanly possible. I've lived in Los Angeles for 16 years. And I've always flown back to Kansas every year at Christmas. This has been the most stressful, hoping to get there and we're not there yet. According to flight aware, there are already well over 5000 flight cancellations today over 9000 delays. "Now the one thing that worries me a little bit is this right here. You got Jim Cramer saying, oh, he feels reassured on binance. That automatically is pretty much a red button. For cell. But you know, you know, cranberries. Kevin O'Leary also testified if you guys watch that show, it was pretty interesting. There was a lot happening today yesterday with FTX. Congress has really been accelerating scenarios around crypto. Listen, guys, we are going to be in for a fight on Capitol Hill. There is a lot happening right now that is intermingling between FTX, binance, the crypto communities, Mika in the EU, this new GDPR, and the MCU, all that stuff that is essentially redistributing how digital assets are going to be done. Remember we talked about this, is that at some point in time, in a very short period of time, this was last year we were really talking about regulations coming and the likelihood of the rich getting richer is going to be happening more and more. And this is what I fear the most. This was Kevin O'Leary. I want you to listen to what he had to say about the binance situation. Why do you believe FTX failed? I have an opinion. I don't have the records. Here it is. These two behemoths that own the unregulated market together and grow these incredible businesses in terms of growth. We're at war with each other. And one puts the other out of business, intentionally. Now, maybe there's nothing wrong with that. Maybe there's nothing wrong with love and war. But finance is a massive, unregulated, global monopoly now. They put FTX out of business. Why do you believe FTX fails? All right, so that's a pretty big statement coming in. I have from Kevin O'Leary. I mean, for him to go out on a limb like that, he's going right at CZ. This is a PR nightmare for binance. It's probably good for a projects and companies like coinbase and Gemini kraken, et cetera. There are going to be exchanges out there that are going to win on this guys. I'd love to get your input, drop some comments below or put over on the side. Which exchange are you trusting right now? And or are you already doing what I've asked you to do so many times and that is getting in self custody? Also, make sure to smash the like button. If you like the live streams like this, we're getting ready to go live on the FOMC meeting. So make sure and stick around right here. It's going to be coming up right after this. We'll also be tracking Bitcoin because Bitcoin is starting to move and playing out in a cycle that we've been talking about, which might be a little bit of a Santa rally. So good stuff happening out there. Even though I think the market itself, here was the U.S. Justice Department weighing in, charging binance and its executives. These were the scenarios that kind of play into it. This was a router's report if you want to follow that when you can go check it out, but disagreements between prosecutors holding up any potential conclusion to the criminal investigation or report notes signing for people familiar with the matter. If you go over to the report, let me pop that one open real quick. This is where the U.S. Justice Department was split over charging binance.

A pretty downbeat sweep of where the world is at Brian. I mean, the cool look at all the issues that the world is facing and the end result is that of downgraded or growth forecasts. And they've warned that inflation is looking to be more broad based than the expected noted downgrades are forecast means the economy size, the global economy size at the end of this year will be maybe around three odd trillion trillion U.S. dollars small and what they expect it would be a year ago. "From violent crime, terrorism, and other threats to their safety, while safeguarding our civil rights. They do so at great personal sacrifice and risk to themselves. I am honored to work alongside them. This is all I can say right now. More information will be made available in the appropriate way and have the appropriate time. Thank you Thank you all for your questions. But as I said, this is all I can say at this time. All right, a very quick statement. That is the U.S. attorney general. Merrick Garland, making a statement from the U.S. Justice Department. He started speaking about three O four and it's now three O 9. So 5 minutes, taking no questions from the members of the press in the room there. The big headline, as we've highlighted on the Bloomberg, the Department of Justice asking the judge a judge to unseal the search warrant for that Trump property, we're talking about the Florida home of president Donald Trump that was searched by FBI agents on Monday specifically also Merrick Garland coming out and saying he will not stand by silently when the integrity is under attack. He's referring to those FBI agents. So again, he also mentioned he was honored to work alongside department officials talking about the Justice Department officials. He also said Merrick Garland were talking about the U.S. attorney general saying public interest was heavily in favor of the unsealing of that search warrant of Mar-a-Lago. The home of former president Donald Trump. You are listening to Bloomberg business week. Carol master Mike Regan here in studio with us and still with us lucky for us is the host of Bloomberg law on Bloomberg radio June grosso junior furiously taking notes. It was a quick statement as I think you expected from Merrick Garland. He is not someone who seeks a lot of attention. What does this mean? I think it's be careful what you wish for, because in this case, president Trump said things about the search that were most likely that were outrageous actually that the FBI planned to evidence, Republicans were asking for information and Merrick Garland taking the really unusual step of asking to have the search warrant unsealed. So that means and also he meant notice that he did say, which we've known, but he did say that a copy of the war and the property receipt were left with president Trump's attorney and his attorney was on the scene. That's really great. But this was happening when this was happening because they've been saying that no attorneys were present when this was happening. So this is in response to what president Trump said and what the Republicans have said and it's really unusual to ask to have that unsealed because now we're going to find out what the reasons were and I take it we're going to find out that the affidavit that supported it, which is where the real evidence is that that affidavit is going to be unsealed as well. I don't remember a time when the Justice Department did this. I'm sure there must have been one, but I don't remember it and especially so soon after usually you don't find out about the search warrants until you almost go to trial in some cases and then they try to object to what's been admitted through the search warrant. But I have to say that this is really, it shows you the seriousness of it and I think what moved him was the last thing he said which was the integrity of the FBI was being questioned. And I think that that played into his decision here, but also I think it was important. He said, the ethical obligations prevent him from revealing what happened and what was in the search warrant, but now he's doing it in the legal way. So this shows you how this Justice Department under Merrick Garland is going to do things through the right process, due process for all and protecting people's constitutional rights. That's really search warrants normally it's to protect the constitutional rights of people and not have things blasted out when you don't know what's going to happen later on. As you mentioned before, if charges are even going to be brought. So, 'cause it just turns out to be nothing. Why would you want all of this revealed that in the public? And he took responsibility and he said, I personally, among the three things he noted, one was I personally approved this and he said the department doesn't take this lightly. These are all hints that what we're going to find out is going to be something very important and something that possibly Donald Trump doesn't want out there because he hasn't revealed what was taken during the search. We're talking about the host of Bloomberg law and Bloomberg radio June grosso, we want to bring into the conversation Alan Rosenstein. He's associate Professor of law at the university of Minnesota member of the council on foreign relations. He joins us via Zoom from Minneapolis. Alan nice to have you here. A lot going on. No quiet summer day. What do you make of what we heard from the U.S. attorney general Merrick Garland? I think it's notable that the attorney general felt that he had to say something. Though what he said was ultimately quite limited and is fundamentally consistent with the department's long-standing practice of trying to say very little publicly about an ongoing investigation. It is notable. That he confirmed that he personally approved the search warrant. I think many of us who have been following the suspected as much given the gravity of executing a search warrant on the residence of the former president. It's notable also that the department is moving to unseal and make public the warrant and the receipt of what was taken. Though I do think it is important to distinguish between the warrant on the one hand, which is a short document outlining the crimes the investigated, the place to be searched and the things to be seized from the underlying application and affidavit to the warrant, which is likely in this case a very lengthy document setting out in a lot of detail, all the facts that the law enforcement agents use to get that warrant. My reading of the attorney general's statement as well as the court filing is that the Department of Justice is moving to unseal only the former, the warrant itself, not the warrant application. So I think we need to be cautious about how much actual information we are going to get. Though we will at the very least get a list of federal crimes that the department is investigating and that is admittedly a lot of important information. Professor I'm wondering if there's any reason in your mind why a judge would actually turn down this request from the Justice Department. And if not, how soon do you think it would be before they would actually release this warrant? I think that the judge in this case will give a lot of deference to the request of the department. I think with the judge will be looking for is whether Donald Trump objects, Donald Trump, as a private citizen, has privacy interests in this, and if Donald Trump objects, then the judge might decide that DoJ doesn't isn't allowed to make this public. Though, of course, given how much Trump has already talked about this, it's perhaps a little bit harder for him to claim a large privacy interest here as to how soon this can happen. Including the 5th year, which we've heard a lot from the former president. No, there's no pleading the 5th. Nothing here. Nothing in this particular motion has anything to do with incriminating Donald Trump. We know a search warrant is executed. Donald Trump simply can object or not object to making that warrant public. But there's no Fifth Amendment issue. Could this be a long drawn out legal process before this warrant is either released or not do you think? Is there an appeals route and stuff like that? I mean, it could be. I suspect that it will not be and that we'll have a decision pretty quickly. Again, especially if Trump does not object, it could be as early as this afternoon. Or tomorrow. If Trump objects and the former president has been known to use the legal system, aggressively in his interests, then yes, there could be there could be a fight about this. But ultimately, this is not a substantive issue. The investigation does not depend on whether or not this document is made public or not. And frankly, I think just DoJ trying to make it public is DoJ signaling that it wants to be transparent. And if Donald Trump wants to stonewall, well, that's on him. Do you remember the last time that in a high profile case, the Justice Department made a motion like this? I don't. I mean, there are many, many cases that happen across the country all the time. It wouldn't surprise me. If these motions occur for one reason or another, but obviously this is an unprecedented case, and we really, other than perhaps the FBI investigation into the Hillary Clinton email situation, we really haven't had anything this high profile and a very, very long time, if ever. "Their lobbyists. So according to people familiar with the matter, the U.S. Justice Department for any sue Google, capping years of work to build a case that the alphabet unit illegally dominates the digital advertising market. That'll be an interesting trial. Is it too powerful? I have always said that Google's Achilles heel here has always been its dominance and advertising. Always. It's not search, it's not anything else. And once they bought double click, they were pretty darn powerful. Now, they didn't have complete pricing control, but they took pieces of transactions. They knew what was going along along the way. Now, meanwhile, I find it interesting that Apple, which failed at advertising, and then made that bug into a feature saying, where are the privacy companies? Because we don't care about advertising. Apple, there's a story in the rundown in the lower part that they're now hiring people. It looks like to create Google like ad networks because they probably smell the weakness here. They've been beefing up, in fact, adds their vetted ads to other areas of Apple properties like the App Store and so forth in there. Looking now, according to digi day, for a senior manager for a DSP and its ads platforms businesses, I'm not sure what DSP stands for digital something. Whoever gets the job will be asked to quote drive the design of the most privacy forward. Oh, here's what DSP stands for. Of the most privacy forward sophisticated demand side platform possible. So we want to show you ads, but we want to make sure no one else knows what we know. A DSP is a statement of a Ted for any ads business. Let alone one like Apple, which has grown exponentially on the back of its decision to make it harder for companies to grow their own. Within the Apple ecosystem. Apple has all that first party data. Shame you don't. And did you see this? Okay, this is crazy. So Google, I think this is going to backfire on them. Google has created a web page, get the message. It's time for Apple to fix texting. It's not about the color of the bubbles. It's the blurry videos broken group chats missing read receipts and typing indicators, no texting over Wi-Fi and more. These problems exist because Apple refuses to adopt modern texting standards when people with iPhones and Android phones text each other. And then you're not apple's fault. No. Well, Google says they didn't adopt an industry standard. They didn't see us, which I think a lot of people realize is kind of crappy. It took a long time to get the phone companies to adopt it. And so there hashtag get the message. They're trying to get people to pressure Apple. Every single apple, every iPhone user is going to just laugh and say, no, that's fine. I don't want. Right. Because the users are totally happy with this. I'm very happy with messages. Elitism side of it. You're not even a group, huh? I can text you too bad. I can text you just because you're color is different. Doesn't mean anything. I can text you. It's a great tweet. I can't see that video. Oh. Yeah, you can, you can't see the video. They're crappy. They're like these tiny sad videos. Anytime my friend sends me a video over to. That's because it's doing it over SMS and MMS. Right. And that's really more bandwidth limitations. Yes. Well, but if they had a standard they could do it differently. Yeah, they could. That's weird. Zack swears tweets. Google colon. You need to finally standardize your messaging app. Apple. Sorry, I missed that message. Did you send it on aloe Google Voice text? Hangouts, Google wallet, Google pay group. Or Google wallet. Yeah. Oops. Oops. So what do you think? Is this going to convince Apple apple is just going to keep on rolling onto the bank and their users going to continue to be happy being the top group? All three of you are Android users, right? Not Apple. Google. I have both. I have a pixel 6 in it. Of course you define it. I actually go to great lengths and it's a pain in the butt to allow me to get Apple messages on my pixel phone. I have to run a server at home called air messages. That runs on a Mac at home, and then I have an error messages client on my iPhone, my pixel phone, so that I can get these messages. And I have to say, the messaging platform on Android is very confusing. Should I use Android messages should I use Samsung messages? Whose messages should I use? It's not a clear choice. As long as the SMS is getting to me, I'm happy. Sometimes it does ignore me to see the whole so and so liked whatever message I sent to him. You know, I get that I get the thumbs up now. People actually now gives it to you. Yeah, yeah, yeah, they'll show you the thumbs up. And you can run, I am a phi user. So I can get my thigh messages in a web application on the iPhone. So I just made that an icon. And then I have all my so I've managed on both phones to get messages from tech guy. It's not a fun thing. The average consumer is not doing any of that. And the average consumer doesn't know what RCS is either. And if they did, they might not be so sanguine about the idea of replacing apple's messages with RCS. I can't wait to have this conversation on Mac break weekly. I'm having a feeling I'm like, they were just going to get one big guffaw from the Apple users. The snobs. Yeah. See, I didn't say snobs. I said just the elite group. Apple should fix what's broken. The bad experience you get when texting

This as emails among some of his former advisers indicate an illegal plan for mister Trump and his allies to falsely claim they were electors in states he lost to derail Congress from actually certifying the election on that day. President Joe Biden and the Chinese leader are set to talk on the phone this week on Thursday, axios reporting this week, it would be the 5th call between the leaders since mister Biden took office, Russia's invasion of Ukraine and the possible trip by House speaker Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan are expected to be on the agenda. For more on these stories in just minutes. On a key procedural vote this week, the Senate advanced major legislation to bolster U.S. computer chip production, as we hear from WTO peace Capitol Hill correspondent Mitchell Miller, Wednesday morning. The bill calls for more than $50 billion to be committed to the semiconductor industry and scientific research. Virginia senator Mark Warner has been a longtime advocate of the legislation to compete with China and improve national security, but he also says it will be good for consumers and automakers struggling to get cars to potential buyers. Because they don't have the chips to make the cars actually operate over a long haul, bringing that supply chain back here will ultimately deal with the inflation issues as well. The legislation is expected to get a final Senate vote this week and will also need to be approved by the House to get to President Biden who supports the bill. "U.S. Justice Department appeals order, voiding mask mandate on public transit. Israel and Gaza trade fire as Middle East tensions mount. And Russia tests nuclear missile that Putin calls worlds best. It's Thursday April 21. I'm Anthony Davis. The U.S. Justice Department is to file an appeal to overturn a Trump appointed judge's order that voided the federal mask mandate on planes and trains and in travel hubs officials said on Wednesday. The notice came minutes after the CDC asked the Justice Department to appeal the decision handed down by the federal judge in Florida earlier this week. A notice of appeal was filed in federal court in Tampa, the CDC said in a statement on Wednesday that it is its continuing assessment that at this time an order requiring masking in the indoor transportation corridor remains necessary for the public health. It remained unclear whether the Biden administration would ask the appeals court to grant an emergency stay, which would be a whiplash moment for travelers and transit workers, most airlines and airports, many public transit systems, and even ride sharing company Uber lifted their mask wearing requirements in the hours following Monday's ruling. A federal judge in Florida had struck down the national mask mandate for mass transit on Monday, leading airlines and airports to swiftly repeal their requirements that passengers wear face coverings. Meanwhile, a poll by The Associated Press, norc center for public affairs research, has found that despite opposition to the requirement that included verbal abuse and physical violence against flight attendants, 56% of those surveyed favor requiring people on planes, trains, and public transportation to wear masks, compared with just 24% opposed. Palestinians fired several rockets into southern Israel from the Gaza Strip early this morning as Israeli aircraft hit Gaza militant sites soon after an earlier rocket strike that was the second such attack this week. The cross border Gaza violence was an extension of Israeli–Palestinian tensions that have been building in Jerusalem. The Israeli military said four rockets were fired from Gaza early Thursday, and were intercepted by air defenses. Late on Wednesday, a rocket was fired from Gaza early this morning, and were intercepted by air defenses. Late Wednesday, a rocket was fired from Gaza, triggering Israeli air strikes. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage, and no one claimed the rocket strikes, Israel holds the Hamas militant group that rules Gaza responsible for all rocket fire and typically responds with air strikes within hours. Early this morning, Israeli warplanes conducted a series of air strikes at a Hamas military site in the central Gaza Strip. Social media posts by activists showed smoke billowing in the air. The Israeli military said the air strikes were aimed at a militant site and an entrance of a tunnel leading to an underground complex, holding raw chemicals to make rockets. Tensions have surged in recent weeks after a series of deadly attacks inside Israel followed by military operations in the occupied West Bank. In a show of strength, two months into its assault on Ukraine, Russia test launched a new nuclear capable intercontinental ballistic missile, which president Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday would make Moscow's enemies stop and think. Putin was shown on TV being told by the military that the long awaited sarmat missile had been test launched for the first time from placet in northwest Russia and hit targets in the kamchatka Peninsula, nearly 3700 miles away. The test of the sarmat under development for years did not surprise the west, but came at a moment of extreme geopolitical tension. Russia has yet to capture any major cities since it sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on February 24th. This truly unique weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces, reliably ensure Russia's security from external threats and provide food for thought for those who, in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric, try to threaten our country, Putin said. Announcing the invasion 8 weeks ago, Putin made a pointed reference to Russia's nuclear forces and warned the west that any attempt to get in its way will lead to such consequences that you have never encountered in your history. Days later, he ordered Russia's nuclear forces to be put on higher alert. Douglas Barry, senior fellow for military aerospace at the international institute for strategic studies, said the launch was an important milestone after years of delays caused by funding issues and design challenges. He said more tests would be needed before Russia could actually deploy it in place of aging SS 18 and SS 19 missiles that were well past their sell by date. Barry said the ability to carry ten or more warheads and decoys and Russia's option of firing it over either of the earth's poles posed a challenge to ground and satellite based radar.

"Arlington 57° in lanham It's three 40 Now the latest developments in the capital riot investigation CBS News congressional correspondents Scott mcfarlane joined WTO's Dmitri and Michelle to talk about the latest defendant to plead guilty to charges stemming from the January 6th attack on the capitol A West Virginia state delegate who resigned his seat shortly after his arrest January 6th 2021 has pleaded guilty to civil disorder And he'll face sentencing later this year faces the prospect of prison time but his case is distinctive in a few ways not the least of which is he was a legislative official a state elected official in West Virginia who today acknowledged his role in January 6th but the thing is he's not the only elected official charged in the capitol riots Monday a county commissioner for Montero county New Mexico will go on trial for his alleged role in the capitol breach really does raise the specter that the people arrested from January 6th were not just citizens in some cases they were leaders You're reporting a new wave of arrests is forming and another is to come For those of us watching the court docket here in the District of Columbia it's unmistakable There's been a quick series of arrests announced and charges announced over the past two weeks in most of the cases It's actually defendants accused of assaulting police This would be a higher level charge And according to the latest release in the U.S. Justice Department there could be hundreds more cases to come but there are hundreds more people being sought a lot of them for assaulting police So don't let the big numbers disguise the fact that there could be more arrests to come At this moment there are roughly 775 federal defendants We could easily eclipse 1000 Scott we kind of thought that the January 6th House committee was plugging along at a pretty good clip but you're reporting some delays What's happening there They're trying to get phone records from some of the higher profile figures They're seeking records from Think Alex Jones the conspiracy theorist and media figure Sebastian gorka the Trump aide And some January 6th defendants as well They're trying to get phone records to help them piece together a puzzle And those people have managed to stall out that effort They have gone to court to block the hand over the phone records and so far those legal challenges have been effective They have stalled the turnover of phone records which means the January 6th committee which had hoped to have public hearings last month then said maybe this month now saying maybe may not necessarily because of the phone records but it's symptomatic of just the fact that the committee has so much intake Somebody records coming its way and yet it's not getting everything it wants We are up against the clock as is the January 6th House committee but in our final few seconds here are they going to make it in time because it is of course widely believed with the midterm elections this committee may not even exist pretty soon They have to get it in time They have to do it by November They realize after November the committee could disappear CBS News congressional correspondent Scott mcfarlane Coming up on WTO will have the latest on a shooting in district heights It's three 43.

"Police with a gun on his waistband But for the prosecutors this is their first case to show their cards to show what they're going to do And one former federal prosecutor told me the U.S. Justice Department has to win this case There are hundreds more defendants to come Any loss weakness or vulnerability here loses leverage for the feds moving forward What do you think that their strategy will be in this trial They're going to call capitol police employees Secret Service FBI even at the U.S. Senate staffer to explain the significance of the Twelfth Amendment which of course was relevant on January 6th 2021 but also they're going to call the defendant's son and daughter alleging he threatened them if they turned him into the FBI and they allege he's part of the three percenters militia group This is going to be a provocative trial We're in the jury selection process one by one D.C. residents who are in this jury pool are coming up being asked about their media consumption their news consumption Their ties to law enforcement the capital or the parties in the case may take a couple of days to choose a jury here in D.C. Looking ahead what could this trial tell us about other trials down the road I think you're going to get a good sense as to how distended are going to argue their case The evidence is distinctive in these January 6th case Is there an untold amount of video Social media posts and images of many unions are the day must a defense Do they reference being of the mindset that they were ordered here that day That they are absolved because the president said go to the capitol We'll see if defendants try to argue if they were following commands versus arguing It wasn't me That's not me in that photo That's not me accused of striking a police officer Really.

"The U.S. Justice Department in this sweeping January 6 prosecution Roads and a handful of co defendants face this charge of seditious conspiracy the highest level charge so far This week roads made an argument to a judge to try to get out of jail until trial and the judge said no you'll remain in jail until trial One of his co defendants appeared in court a man named Edward Vallejo from Arizona He's also charged seditious conspiracy in just like roads and just like the others he pleaded not guilty Looking at a trial date of July maybe September so there's a long way ahead but this right now is the epicenter of the prosecution What can you tell us about the next steps for the House select committee the January 6th committee that is looking at this whole matter They subpoenaed 14 more people 14 party activists or in some cases party officials at the local level who are accused by the committee of being part of this effort to submit false electors false Electoral College electors that they met December 14th and were planning to submit electors for Donald Trump and Mike Pence even though Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the votes and the electors in their home states These are people from Michigan Wisconsin Pennsylvania Arizona their subpoenaed to hand over records by mid February and to come for depositions in late February Let's see if they hand over records and show up to meet the January 6th committee And we're always fascinated at the variety of people that were involved in this attack on the capitol including former police officers charged retired New York police officer named Thomas Webster his schedule for trial for April 4th Webster is accused of assaulting police at the capitol D.C. police at the capitol on January 6th He's not the only former or current police officer charged There are two from rural Virginia no longer with the force a Chicago police officer now on leave of absence A Houston police officer who's been sentenced inflicted guilty and Dimitri a DEA agent who was off duty that day but the feds say he brandished.

"WTP with his weekly summary of major events related to the January 6th investigation This is the new high water mark for the U.S. Justice Department This is their biggest case so far Stuart roads the accused founder of the oath keepers and this provocative high level charge of seditious conspiracy of planning equipping to challenge the peaceful transfer of power Rhodes was in court in Plano Texas That's the eastern district of Texas near his home where he was arrested And here's what happened late in the day The judge decided to hold him in jail till a full detention hearing Thursday the 20th Then they'll decide whether to hold them indefinitely until trial and perhaps transport him to the D.C. jail in southeast until trial here in Washington D.C. But it is the other co defendants you referenced that are going to overlook right now Ten others charged with seditious conspiracy doesn't major charge that does include Thomas Caldwell of Northern Virginia of Clark county near berryville He's pleaded not guilty to the original charges but there's been a superseding indictment adding this seditious conspiracy charge He'll have to face a judge on that new charge too Scott you're also reporting on guns at the capitol on January 6th and after So we had another arrest a woman arrested near the U.S. Senate during a traffic stop or having a gun according to police in the back of her car So we did some tallying at CVS news and found since January 7th 2021 the day after the capital attack there have been 16 arrests for guns near the capitol That's double what there were a few years ago each year That's an issue U.S. capitol police are being responsive to and D.C. delicate Eleanor Holmes Norton told me this is why the capitol police protect the areas outside the buildings too to keep threats from getting close to the capitol itself But then there are the guns from January 6th as well At least 5 defendants according to my account have been accused formally by the feds of carrying guns on their person in the mob amid the riots the guns were an issue then and in a different way remain an issue now And that specter that hangs over all of us COVID issues we're trying to protect ourselves just hearing from the CDC about getting better masks now This time we're talking about the courthouse where January 6th defendants are being prosecuted What do you know about that Without equivocation it is an enormous challenge for these prosecutions The D.C. federal courthouse is under severe restrictions because of COVID because of all Macron who at least the end of the month and potentially beyond that And here's the thing There are 700 plus U.S. capitol riot prosecutions going through that courthouse right now and they're just stuck in a sense until the courthouse is functioning more loosely More fully and not.
