Nancy Pelosi Ripped on Twitter for Silencing American Olympic Athletes

"With House speaker Nancy Pelosi, who and continuum four yesterday warned U.S. Olympic athletes to be nice, while their in China, cut number four. I would say to our athletes, you're there to compete, do not risk, incurring the anger of the Chinese government, because they are ruthless. I know there is a temptation on the part of some to speak out while they are there. I respect that. But I also worry about what the Chinese government might do to their reputations to their families. Well, we know what the Chinese government is capable of doing right. It kind of leads to the question as to whether or not we should have even set. Our Olympic team to China. Speaker Pelosi got some pushback on Twitter. The question on Twitter, that is trending, and let me just read some of the comments from congressman Richard Hudson from North Carolina for example, speaker Pelosi said people will do what they do when it came to protest and ripping statues down around our cities. Yet won't stand up for the U.S. Olympic athlete speaking out against China. We should always have Americans backs over China, he writes.

Rep. Michael Waltz: Dictators Love the Olympics

"Dictators love the Olympics We all know what Hitler did after 1936 but fewer people realized that the last time the Ukraine was invaded Putin invaded the Ukraine just a few months after the 2014 Olympics in Sochi because they love it because it is a propaganda platform and everybody attending the entire world is turning a blind eye to their abuses to the authoritarianism It emboldens them And I do fear for Taiwan in the wake of the Beijing Olympics which is which is coming in February but just one other point mark The IOC the International Olympic Committee says well we don't do politics And you hear so many people left and right both parties saying well what are about the athletes and what have you Let me ask you this If the United States government had a million Muslims in concentration camps do you think those athletes would be demanding to compete Heck no They would be out protesting So why is it different than if China is doing And the other piece is the IOC had no problem getting into politics throughout the 60 70s and 80s when they boycotted South Africa over apartheid not only did they not allow an Olympics in South Africa they banned the South African Olympic team from participating anywhere for 30 years but I guess it's okay when it comes to apartheid in South Africa but for them to get involved there But they're going to turn a blind eye when it comes to these gross atrocities that are happening all over the world including inside China So and I think the answer is as you and I well know it's all about the money

And I I honestly had to ask my wife who this lady was and sure enough, she was the one who took a week of the formula that kill Max formula. And she said she got a really good week of sleep for the first time in years. Wow, and that her pain was much better, and she ordered three more cans for me to get it out to her friends. That's amazing. And when I use this with the professional athletes, I'm a doctor for the U. You really wouldn't think that such a small component of your normal diet can make such a profound impact over the way that you feel? Was the what's happened. Chris is that in the last 50 years, the American diet has greatly changed and the nutrition is greatly changed and add to that the medications many people are in blood pressure medications or anti anxiety, drugs or heart medications. And many of these things also blocks the absorption of calcium magnesium in the system. Wow, the very drugs that are treating the conditions that your body is experiencing because of deficient in calcium, magnesium. It's also blocking further absorption. Isn't it something so it's really it's really a rat race, So it sounds like it's a vicious circle. It sure is. And we're you know. What are you going to do? So I my formulas. Aisha Praught Leer on Qualifying for Team Jamaica for the Tokyo Games

"The first thing that i actually want to get into and i think we've probably talked about this before. But can you explain to us the process of being on team jamaica. Because we know that you compete for jamaica. We also know that every country has a different way of picking their olympic teams in different sports but especially in track and field. So can you tell us how you earn your spot to get to run that. Fifteen hundred tokyo for team jamaica. Yes so jamaica has child system that is nearly identical to the us. Top three at the trials plus a qualifying mark or inacceptable World ranking on the descending order list gives you your spot to the olympics or whatever team might situation gets a bit unique. Because i am as of this moment. The only runner above fifteen hundred meters that has internationally competitive times and can hit national can hit international standards or be accepted on world ranking so often timelines. It's up to whether or not other people sign up for the trials It's it's an open system for jamaica. There are. i mean. There are standards to to enter the trials. But they're bit slower markedly slower than than the standards in the us And it's just an open registration system and it's always very hanway for me Whether or not occupied trials. I competed at the trials in twenty fifteen. I ran the fifteen hundred Even i went on to race. The siebel chase iran the shortest distance that i thought other people would sign up for which is the fifteen hundred. So did that in twenty fifteen there were three. Other competitors I won the race. And i ended up lapping. A woman in the race A masters runner and since two thousand fifteen. No-one has entered the fifteen hundred jamaica at and that means that. I have not competed at the trials since two thousand fifteen so i was just waiting on bated breath to see if anybody would register for the trials this year in the fifteen hundred so that i could go and compete at trials You know it's. It's a blessing in a curse to not have to compete at your trials. It allows me to take on other Competitive opportunities are not speaking for trials. But you also don't get to race with the opportunity to come national

"Tell us about your history in the olympics. You a tough history in the olympics. Everybody would assume that you'd get the gold. Many times over what happened In mexico city. I was honored to win a silver medal which means second place when i came back to the united states since i was a favourite There were a lot of people are very unhappy with my performance. And i just remind your listeners. That a gold medal and the silver medal of the same size. One has a little different color. And you get a lot more emphasis in if you get second place when you're supposed to win then you considered somewhat of a failure but quite honestly is one of the greatest races of my life because we were wearing at altitude which gave the altitude living athlete. That one whole mexico city is that. I totally forgot about this. Let's go back to sixty four though. You're seventeen you make the olympic team. What happened in sixty in the sixty four olympics. I got to the second round of competition. At three rounds. Preliminary semi-final finals. I made it into the semifinals but did not get beyond that. Because you're dealing with a different type of competition. Altogether our olympic trials. Then one day. Now they do the three day as you would have in the olympics. I might not have made it through. Nineteen sixty four. There been three rounds but it was a one round competition by grace of god. I leaned finish line and made it to the olympic team.

I just feel like you're picking up a giant cockroach off the bottom of the ocean. "I mentioned a big big first hour in terms of interviews. We go back to back as promised. We're joined right now by the IBF. And WBC welterweight champion of the world. He is undefeated 26 No 21 wins by knock out a member of the 2012 U. S. Olympic team, Errol Spence Jr. And Danny Garcia Saturday at 18 T Stadium. It is live it is on pay per view. We're joined by Arul Spence Junior right now, Carol, It's nice to have you on the program. How are you? I'm doing good man. How are you going? Good. Good. Not great to have you on. So we've got ourselves a fight week. You're a few days out from stepping in against Danny Garcia. How you feeling? How was your camp? Camping, very ma'am, very excited and pumped up. No internal horror focus. And I'm happy day. You know, it's upon the stress. Now It's quite weak, and we're co days away from fighting. So I'm really excited about this. All right. So the fight's gonna take place in Dallas. Back in 2019. You faced unbeaten four division world champion Mikey Garcia, a TNT stadium. What was it like fighting in the home of the Dallas Cowboys for the first time and how much you looking forward to getting back and doing it again on Saturday? Um, fighting in the first time. It was surreal. I mean, fighting in front of my first time. Find in front of 80,000 plus fan and then no just added bonus fighting at home in front of my family, friends and no people who supported me since that lamp it since day one, so For me. It just it was just the person I love. You're in control because I rule washing the cowboys and now fighting back there again, you know, Like I said, it didn't come true again. Just fighting here the second time and Find out when the whole camp was organization. You know the cowboy. I mean, it's a blessing. The dream, you know, spends Junior is my guest. Then you follow that up with a win over Mikey Garcia Or you fall the win over Garcia with a win over Sean Porter here in Los Angeles to take on that WBC belt. If you go back to that night, what kind of statement? Do you feel like you made to the world and winning that fight the way you did. My thing. I made impactful statement because I showed everybody dead. You know, with the my Garcia Find out. So dear Barca Box, Sean Porter. Fine. I showed everybody find Malcolm Brown. I could stand inside the pocket and really, you know, trade shots with God. So I feel like I showed the best of both worlds and I got you know everything tastes. You know, Continue on winning and being the best fighters out there that place in front of me. Harold spends Junior is my guest. And then after that win over Porter, Danny Garcia comes into the ring any challenges you what was your reaction to that? And why was this the fight that you want it? Open me You would just like I like I always said our social media tables turn because in the beginning it was me calling out these Danny Garcia. Sean Porter determined there, right? Yes. I was an ass are cotton amount you know, trying to get inside the house. Now you're strong away instead of housing, and I'll be here book and now the other guys. At their ran out the back door and not the one doing the come back in and fight me. So so, you know, it's just it's you know, it's a blessing shows Harward payoff, and I won this fight because He's one of the guys that I've been one of fights since I turned professional and, you know, finding in the opportunity to show the world you know how great I am by beating another time. What's what Expands. Junior's my gas. He's joining us before a championship fight early was shortly after the porter fight that you were in that horrific car accident. One that could have been fatal. Your Ferrari flipped over your ejected from the car. I want to be really respectful because I don't wanna bring up bad memories. But you've also talked about how you really don't remember that much from the accident. What was the rehabilitation process like after the accident? Oh, maybe they grew them And, you know, it's like they say, you know, the mind is stronger muscle in the body. And for me, you know his mind over matter. It was like a lot of days, you know? I want to start for you know something with a can, or, you know, in pain, like my neck pride and stop hurting toe like five months after next and poor farm. Was that an accident so You know, I had, you know, basically, you know, fight through the pain and just be to take myself and get back and And I didn't You know people wanted me to go seafood, but they're pissed and you know, mental therapy and time right there. But, you know, I just trusted myself and just face to be You know, got it out the moon myself and you grind him myself. And you know that's the point. We just my little ones and my coach. Know my father and just, you know, thinking on my kids, and I quit enough further noon, so I think you know that outside influence to, you know, boring. You know strength into me, you know, coming back this soon to fight. You know, it's amazing, right? Like I'm trying to figure out it's one thing to say like you got it out of the mud, and you did what you had to do. And you had people around you and you were able to grind through it. But it doesn't begin to do justice to what you overcame. I mean, was there any point Because you yourself said you should have lost your life that night. Did you ever think about retiring from fighting after that happened? Um, Yeah, well for a little bit, you know, I was like, you know, I was pretty banged up, so I was in the bed. I don't know. You know, far confiding anymore or you know, And then I have to go see a doctor like marrow. See? You know, Doctor, you know, seeing my brain's okay, we could You know my body you know, when asked my head up with concrete, So I mean, most people lose that battle. Um, So you're going to see the doctor and, you know, saying that I don't have any brain bleeding so like that, you know that for me that only you know, it would be a blessing. And you know that was out of my control and out of you know my powers that you know, I don't have any brain bleed. No. No, only swirling anything like the lamb. We come back this fast, So you know, I believe it was just you know something for me and just, you know, stay under the same dedicated to the sport. And you know, and just don't take my life for granted. And they actually help me till we just not taking stuff for granted and spending time with family and loved ones and and actually getting that time because you never know when your day they were in their own spends Jr is joining us. So I was just gonna change the perspective. Something else you did You move from uptown Dallas to Red oak. You bought some land. You've got some horses that you can saddle up. You've got some cows. What's that done for your peace of mind? Well, it didn't not so please mind. How did move right off, too? By the way, I moved in the house cursing Dad was when I got it. Okay, But but I mean, there's a lot I feel like, you know, riding horses is very peaceful. And And give you peace of mind, and I never asked him and I never really entrust the horse or Cattle in Iraq have now go like never in custody things, and now I have all that and not feel like you know, it's very, very therapeutic and peaceful. Give me a piece of mine. I've been out there riding horses being out there without a land and, you know, rather be out here and not stuff, you know, apartment where you can't walk outside and early in the morning. You hear cranes and And those still going off and alarms and things like that. Where I here it is peaceful about money and business. I could shoot guns out here. You know, horses just kicked with my family. I got someone cool, so There's so much privacy. I hear Expanse. Junior joining us. I know it. Open space is great. We own horses. I absolutely love them. So I know you're talking about you know something you talked about before I let you go. You said quote. I know people are looking out to see if I have lost a step or won't be at my best. But I'm 100% focused and everything is on point in camp. I just can't wait to go out there and put on a show and quote So what's your reaction? When you hear people say that? Maybe you have lost a step? Maybe you're not what you used to be. Awful needed added motivation. You know, I pull out Eddie can get you up. We'll get you down and you know criticism or it just added motivation and I don't see a criticism really know some of the stuff because you know it's to be expected. I mean, meeting in that type of asking it and people to see it on video and things like that..

"This is already a circus. He is the greatest showman. Why not continue it? His Eddie Alvarez, 30 made his major league debut in the first game of the doubleheader this past week. It's Baltimore Orioles playing second gave you're going to pick a team to do it again. So I guess it's Gloria. He's still searching for his first big league hit. He went Oh, for three. I don't know if he got a hit after that, but the team one he's searching easy me searching for a long time. Just ask Michael Jordan. Yeah. Through his bloodshot eyes. Can we speak of this guy in the same breath is Deon Sanders as Bo Jackson? Can we? He's a dual sport athlete. He is a dual sport athlete When you think about it, By the way, if anyone can convert Eddie Alvarez into a star, it's the Marlin said the Marlins have Dunmore with left. The models have tried to be bad. Yeah, they're like we want to be terrible. We're trying to tank and we can't stop winning. The Lions are the lines. The Marlins tomorrow line went that that was a Freudian slip. The Marlins are the Lions of baseball. The Marlins have, like gotten rid of Mohr VPs than teams have ever had, right. In 2014 Alvarez became the first Cuban American male speedskater to make a U. S Olympic team. He was a silver medalist in the men's 5000 meter Short track relay at the Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. That is so impressive is a winter Olympic athlete. People don't understand the sacrifices that Olympic athletes have to make. That's four years before you. That's your life. You're not getting paid. It's It's a terrible, spartan life that you have to live for one a couple of weeks of four years of making your life a sport not getting paid. The only people can relate to that is every college football player. I mean, is Apollo. Anton Ono gonna Are They gonna call him next? Maybe you crouch pretty. Well, Maybe you could be a catcher. Handle the pitching staff if you want Eric Heiden's Where's he? Five gold medals. That's right, becoming until the infield with the Oaken A's he has heightened, actually became a professional cyclist and was in the Tour de France in 1986. And he's not going to make a Nazi gesture when you're coming in the dugout. Alright, guys, one hour down in the books, Matt Liner on the other side of this great Louis, his own Matt Winer, We're going to talk about the n B a bubble and maybe get into a little Lou Williams with him and talk hockey later, and maybe as again it's the Sklar brothers. Killing him for Jim Rome on CBS Sports.

"Five on the fan in New York City on this cold Saturday afternoon here in mid February hope all is well wherever you may be we will take calls later in the hour eight seven seven three three seven sixty six sixty six we will talk later on in the show to Wayne coffee author of boys or winter the story of the nineteen eighty miracle on ice U. S. Olympic team of herb Brooks etcetera that forty year anniversary is next Saturday the twenty second of February it'll be forty years since the nineteen eighty championship and the really unifying victory across this country right now though we're so happy to be joined by John Harper of S. and why the heart man ready to talk a little baseball in the exhaust more of this Astros stuff that won't go away and is fascinating to people are probably doing this afternoon Hey good Chris a donation and I can't be forty years that would mean that we're all pretty I can't believe that this is sort of sad when I was talking to when Carli has my god forty years that is yeah that is an eye opener there's no question about that but that's a great memory that's for sure yeah that was something and this of course is the opposite for people and first off I want to get your take on a few things are you surprised that the number of players and the the number of fans for that matter that are not of the Dodgers Yankees red Sox Indians people over directly involved with the Astros in playoff scenarios that that many players are this out spoken about an issue like this because I certainly was pleased to see it that they weren't your shrugging their shoulders and they were actually coming on the record as saying this is not right yeah I have been surprised by the I think because partly because I've kind of become known to the idea over the years it players won't criticize other players right but the steroid era when we knew they were you know like I said should have spoken up even number have that conversation with junior and he got upset about the idea that he should have been the one to speak up so yet to see this tells me it tells me that it really is something that wasn't going on at least at this level I'm on other teams because otherwise you wouldn't be here in these kind of comments so I I just think it it reinforces the idea that this is okay this that you know the Astros that this to a level where other guys just couldn't imagine I guess and and thanks to the heart of the you know there has to be you know what I mean if there was a huge business and money and everything else but there has to be somewhat checkered involved on the playing field I think the players feel that way were you what what I mean obviously everyone was disappointed on with the performance of the Astros in the press conference why do you think they had it if that was the best they were going to bring like out I was trying to figure myself if they sat around before hand and say what's the best thing that could come out of this press conference and then went out and did what they did our campaign just makes me think wow this is such a monopoly they're not they're not even prepared they don't care really what anyone thinks are just you know doing until I feel like they have to I know I don't look at the track record their PR whoever is in charge of P. O. R. is a self which should be fired because they do everything long have you known in so many cases now going back to last year with the he started with the romantic thing with a party reporter for the press conference and then in the post season where did the the assistant GM was marking the women in the locker of about the soon as saying it it took them forever they got to get out front that they did everything wrong with that and then this thing yeah it was it was just awful I mean why have Bregman in now to eighty they look like idiots making those prepared statements especially when once they did open though the clubhouse you got you got a little bit more in terms of honest remorse in reaction and reel to reel six sentiments and I think that's so that's a big dish that's a they should have done I mean are they allowed to sell we saw that Jim crane doesn't know what he's doing is charging that the owner the things he said made everything worse so I guess it just all comes from the top down its barrel you can really say yeah and I don't know that they know that they ever should have done it I mean I the slings and arrows that they're getting like today qureia coming out and saying all too they had a bad tattoo that wasn't finished and that's the reason he didn't want his Jersey ripped off there just isn't any upside there no one's going to believe him and and no one could you know it's just it's just quality owning all say there is it I don't know if you've read that whole thing it is a it is a really as it is I know that Khan is in itself so it sounds kind of weird but he makes a long detailed passionate defense about to say that I think is worth reading it's in the athletic Ken Rosenthal wrote it and he did he is the one guy who to me came off as the most believable in those interviews the other day so I wouldn't dismiss that entirely the I noticed the tattoo thing since you could but if you read the whole thing there's a there's a lot there from from Korea making the case for out to bait and he's obviously he's really mad that Dillinger said when he said and you know players are gonna be right to be to have that those feelings but the career thing is really interesting I would encourage people to read it yeah I just don't think he can win a does I just don't think that battle can be one given the history and the negativity surrounding a good part of it I just don't think that battle is one that they can win and they're better off even if the right even if every word he says is true I just think of the American public is not open minded when it comes to of the parts that were proven against the team and they're not going to give them the kind of fair shake that they think they deserve so I don't know I just don't think they're getting very good advice right now what's your guess as to how this all plays out for for Major League Baseball rob Manfred and for the average fan out there would you how long does this last tell how big of a Paul does it cast on twenty twenty and and we're what are your thoughts generally about you know we're will be a year from now and might depend on what we see from masters this year we know that you know that I still think less lot of talented players there it's going to be interesting to see how they perform the state should still have a really good team that I think it's going to be something that's going to make you linger and be there all year it can you know out I'm interested to see if if if these players and teams follow through and actually you know looked at so showing hitters things like that I have a feeling that's going to come down for the season starts but Hey listen you never know a motion to write really high but I I think a year from now I think it'll mostly be forgotten unless he has chosen when the World Series in and and who knows maybe some people think they're somehow they were sent out she began so it is your right once once this they've got they've got this scarlet letter so to speak it's it's not going to go away very easily no not in today's environment I mean people are not open minded politically of business wise you know anyway they they celebrity wise they put a label on you you where that label until you really can prove that you shouldn't be wearing that label right I mean you know none of us are in the courtroom but if you go to a hundred people on the street in New York today and ask about Harvey Weinstein you know at least eighty five of them will have an opinion one way or the other only fifteen or ten will say Jeez I don't know when I'm not there I don't know nothing about the testimony I just you know I have no idea most people will say one way or the other because that's the way we are now so you know I just think that that that part of it's going to be very difficult for them to shake does as you look at baseball overall and and is this a wake up call for rob Manfred like Hey there are good there are things that go over the line because I I I've always said here on the show that you know the leagues are monopolies and basically can do whatever they want we just the just the whatever they decide to do and that's why they get away with whatever they get away with because we're you know we're basically addicted and we go along for the ride we grumble but we go along for the ride this seems to have almost crossed the line here which is interesting to me yeah because you're right I don't think it's I don't think people gonna stop watching baseball because of this but it is it wouldn't look at it now it seems pretty clear that MLB was not going to act on this until Mike Fiers came forward and made it something they couldn't ignore because when you listen to comments by the Bob Melvin ace manager about how they complain to he said openly how they complain to the league about it and other teams and and that kind of wish for the same thing over the years and that they would they didn't do anything truly will forced to sell right yeah I mean I think I think Manford together he he's got to be more worried about that those kind of things then you then you should be about whether you know some of the little rules changes they're making in terms of this postseason stuff that they had of us nothing else yeah I know and I think John and we're talking to John Harper us and why I think her but you know where any time you admit anything or or doing him there's so much collateral damage now you know lawsuits gambling interests you know the families involved and you know like the people call in earlier today about an all state and she maybe Girardi still with the Yankees maybe this is that maybe that you know Erin judge which is everything there's so many things that enter into it if you if you start to admit it you can understand why a league we just don't like to be an ostrich and and bury their head in the sand and come up six months later and hope that everybody forgot about it yeah because I think they're feeling always is that bands of fans are gonna watch the games the matter what but this is a good guy I think yeah I think is a good wake up call the man for because he what he's heard from fans in from other players I think that's kind of shock him the reaction around the league I'm sure he didn't anticipate that this kind of forceful reaction so yeah I think it's good because that too often I think the head to the squeaks just they do take the fans in the us for granted what do you think there was such a reaction what what do you think the Cody villagers the world.
