I had a couple of looks there and over time that I wish would have went in, but I ended up getting them back there in the shootout. So definitely felt good. Phones they made a heck of a move there to end it, so it was pretty good. The other goals came two and a half minutes apart early in the second period with Pierre and Val scoring for the isles and Connor sherry countering for the capitals. What Happened to Me on January 6th With Brandon Straka

"That the last two years, of course, have been very difficult for you personally for those who aren't aware with your story and what happened to you. After January 6th, let's quickly summarize, you came to D.C., you were here for January 6th. And again, correct me if I make any missteps here, you went to Congress. You never went inside the building. You filmed what was happening. You made a video, you posted it, and then things started to go bad for you. Explain what you did on January 6th and what the repercussions were you for for you personally. Yeah, no, you nailed all of those details. So I was actually invited to be a speaker on capital grounds at a permitted event that was supposed to follow president Trump speaking at the ellipse on January 6th. That's the reason why I went to Washington, D.C. to speak. And so as I was approaching the capital grounds after president Trump spoke to go to my speaking engagement, I started getting a lot of text messages and things like that on my phone from people around the country that I know who were watching on television saying, we're seeing or hearing on the news that people are going inside the building and something's going on. That sounded unusual to me, so I started shooting a video and I was approaching from the east side. So I wasn't even on the west side of the building where people were, you know, some people were breaking windows and fighting with police officers. So you were on the peaceful side of the Congress. Yeah. Absolutely. And I didn't witness any of that. I didn't see anyone breaking any Windows or in fact, I didn't even see any police officers. There were literally zero police officers, zero. On the east side grounds. And I got to the steps of the capitol and the east side were thousands of people were gathered, but facing away from the capitol, mind you, they weren't they weren't facing toward the capitol trying to charge inside. They were all standing facing away from the capitol holding signs and one man is visible in my video at the top of the stairs, calling down to the people blow shouting. They've opened the doors. They're letting us in. We're going inside. We're going inside. So I walked up to the top of the east side stairs and when I got there, the two large metal open doors of the capitol were wide open. And there was a crowd of several hundred people there, some were trying to get inside the majority were just kind of shooting a video like I was. And so I shot a video for 8 minutes outside of the building before a man came out of the capitol dot on a bullhorn and he said they've cleared Congress. Everybody move out, move out. They've cleared the building. You

Fed official: SVB itself was main cause of bank's failure

"A Federal Reserve official says Silicon Valley bank itself was the main cause of the bank's failure. In written testimony to be delivered to the Senate banking committee, the nation's top financial regulators asserting that SVB all management was largely to blame for the bank's failure earlier this month, and fed vice chair for supervision, Michael Barr, says regulators will also review whether a 2018 law that weakened stricter bank rules also contributed to the collapse, Barr pointed to the bank's concentrated business model in which its customers were overwhelmingly venture capital and high-tech firms in Silicon Valley. He also contains that the bank failed to manage the risk of bond holdings which lost value as the fed raised interest rates collapse was the second largest bank failure in U.S. history. How the Capitol Police Had Infiltrators Among the J6 Protesters

"So the new development is that we now have federal prosecutors admitting in court. That Metropolitan Police department undercover officers acted as provocateurs. At the northern steps of the U.S. capitol on January 6th. Now you'll remember you may remember I had January 6th attorney Joseph McBride on. And he talked about this. He talked about the fact that there weren't just FBI instigators. FBI plans that the Proud Boys and the three percenters and the oath keepers. But there were also Metropolitan Police dressed up in sort of maga outfits or back the blue or just American patriotic gear. And they were in the crowd, and they were egging on the crowd. So we had this coming from a January 6th attorney, but what we didn't have is all the video showing it. And what we didn't have was the prosecutors admitting it. Yes, this was true. We did have our guys. They were doing this that video is in fact accurate. Now, there's one of the defendants, his name is William Pope, he's from Topeka, Kansas. And he has asked the judge a fellow in judge Contreras, Rudolph Contreras. U.S. district judge, I need to have the video that shows these undercover Metropolitan Police. Doing this stuff. And the prosecution is like, no, no, judge, you can give him the video, and the judge is like, well, why not? Isn't he entitled to the video? Yeah, but he wants to release the video publicly. So if you give the video over to the defendant, he's welcome to, in fact, in this case, this William pulp fellows representing himself, there's nothing to prohibit him from releasing the video. No one denies the video is authentic, it's video that was taken really by the government itself, but we have the assistant U.S. attorney. This is Kelly Moran. The defendant is not entitled to undesignated these videos to share them with unlimited third parties, his desire to try the case in the media rather than the court of law is illegitimate. No one says he's trying the case in the media. He's just releasing the videos because he thinks the public would like to know that you see undercover cops not only egging the crowd on rah rah rah, but pushing them and driving them in the direction of the capital. It's almost like they want them to go into the capital because they are trying to lead them into a trap.

"President Biden, as opposed to capital punishment, but his administration is pushing forward with federal executions. An Associated Press review of dozens of legal filings shows President Biden's Justice Department is fighting just as vigorously as Donald Trump's did to uphold a sentences of death row inmates. Death penalty opponents had expected the administration to end federal executions. Attorney general Merrick Garland did impose a moratorium in 2021, noting concerns about how capital punishment disproportionately impacts people of color, and there's a lack of consistency in its application. Although the pauses lifted, Garland has not authorized any new death penalty cases and reverse 27 that had been sought, but there are dozens more capital punishment cases being pursued by the Justice Department. Biden's Canada agenda stacked: NORAD, migration deals likely

"President Biden is in Canada's capital for talks with prime minister Justin Trudeau on a bunch of big global issues. I'm Ben Thomas with a look. Several of the world's most difficult challenges are on the agenda, the war in Ukraine, climate change, trade, mass migration, and an increasingly assertive China. But two important areas of agreement already appear in hand. U.S. and Canadian officials say Ottawa will escalate its timeline for military upgrades to the North American aerospace defense command. Norad, and an update to rules for migrants seeking asylum, the deal eliminates a loophole under existing rules that's resulted in thousands of migrants annually crossing into Canada at a non official checkpoint, enabling them to stay in the country. Ram Ahluwalia Catches Us Up on Credit Suisse

"Where I want to start is sort of a little bit of a catch up on Credit Suisse. And so maybe first, we could talk a little bit about what happened over the last week. We're recording this on Monday. I think that's extremely important for people to know, because I think it'll come out on Wednesday and who knows what will transpire in the next 48 hours between them. But I think it would be really helpful to have sort of a short primer to help ground us in terms of understanding how much the things going on with Credit Suisse were credits we specific versus symptomatic of larger problems. And so maybe if we could kind of just start with, you know, what happened with Credit Suisse, you know, what the resolution was, and then maybe we can try to understand and piece through what the causality was. Sure thing. So let me frame it up. UBS and CS were the two top wealth managers in Switzerland, CES, sometime around September, October of last year, their share price took a dive as kind of floating around $3 or so. And the main issues there were around arca ghost, which was a hedge fund blew up that creditors had lending exposure to. And then also just a litany of issues around CS and compliance and open litigation around that. Now, fast forward to call it the last one or two weeks, CS started experiencing runs on the bank. They had deposit flight and the regulators were trying to broker some kind of transaction with UBS and CS was also in a parallel path looking to raise equity capital. So their largest shareholder, which is Saudi Arabia, declined to invest more than their 10% ownership interest in CS. They share that news, I believe it was Thursday of last week. And the reveal of that news caused further loss of confidence in CS and accelerator with the roles. So that was the principle event. That really accelerated the demise of CS. So what happened yesterday, there is an announcement that UBS will be acquiring select parts of credit Swiss.

"But that has raised a key rate by a quarter point despite bank turmoil. I'm Lisa dwyer. The Federal Reserve extended its yearlong fight against high inflation by raising its key interest rate by a quarter point despite concerns that higher borrowing rates could worsen the turmoil that has gripped the banking system. That chair Jerome Powell sought to reassure Americans that it is safe to leave money in their banks. Our banking system is sound and resilient with strong capital and liquidity. The fed chair also underscored that the Central Bank remains focused on fighting high inflation, which could require additional rate hikes. The process of getting inflation back down to 2% has a long way to go and is likely to be bumpy. First Republic Bank Shares Sink to Another Record Low

"All right, Friends, another day, another set of serious updates around the global banking crisis. We start with first republic, which had another shocking day on Monday with the stock price plummeting 47% to an all time low. The stock was halted 9 times during its freefall and has now lost 90% of its equity value since the beginning of March. First Republicans experienced a massive $70 billion in deposit outflows over the month, as customers grow concerned about the safety of the bank afflicted with the same duration mismatch impairment that took down Silicon Valley bank alongside signature. Now on Friday, a consortium of major banks led by JPMorgan Chase, agreed to offer first republic 30 billion in deposits, consisting of the deposits which would float out of the troubled community bank. Ratings agency S&P said this package may not be enough to solve the quote substantial challenges facing the bank even if it does ease short term pressures on liquidity. On Monday, JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon was back in talks to discuss converting the $30 billion in deposits into a capital infusion in an attempt to calm the panic around the already shaky bank. JPMorgan investment bankers have also been hired by first republic to explore options with a sale also being in the cards. Unfortunately, right now it's not clear how likely that is. Now that said, first republic doesn't necessarily represent the entire banking industry, with some time having passed since the collapse of Silicon Valley bank and the introduction of the fed's emergency liquidity program, the bank term funding program or BTF, regional banks actually saw a broad rally on Monday. This was led by New York community Bancorp, which we'll discuss in just a moment with a record 30% daily gain. "Everything from individuals affiliated with the administration to individuals affiliated with the cute on conspiracy theory, too proud boys. Too violent extremists and members of anti government and you not see the new Nazi movements. Members of the administration who would that be? We saw reports of a number of individuals, whether campaign members or higher up individuals who had spoken positively or or have joined parlor in the past. There are a whole host of mainstream voice is not simply extremists, but also obviously There is this huge concern where, as evidenced by a lot of the events on Wednesday, a lot of these events were seemingly preplanned and and plotted out in plain sight on parlor and elsewhere. I mean, you've seen those conversations, have you you've seen the exchange is saying Head for the U. S Capital on Wednesday. Yes, this was a known commodity by not just myself, but many, many extremism researchers in the days and weeks leading up to the sixth. I mean, there were They were playing messages. This was not a coded language or some some kind of hidden plot. This was openly planned as a rally in in the district. Could you give me examples of that sort of language that was being used? We will go to the capital. Stop the steel. Hang my pants hanging. Nancy Pelosi, Take the country back. Take the election back. The important part is that this was not just parlor. There were these messages. On Facebook on discord on Tic Tac on Twitter. These were messages that that were very clear. For. For many, many researchers who studied many of these extremist movements this was plain to see for for money. What is the attraction off parlor to these anti government extremist? Right wing, their Nazi groups that you've bean talking about? Is it? Is it the lack of censorship? Yeah, absolutely. It is a lack of censorship and the lack of content moderation. We saw some action in this past year by Facebook and Twitter to target not just specific anti government movements like the Bogle of movement. But we also saw action against Ah, whole host of Cuban on conspiracy theory related accounts, so as these were being targeted By the larger platforms like Facebook and Twitter. You would you would see these individuals begin to move onto platforms like parlor and again. I think it's important to note that these individuals have been using platforms like this before parlor and they will continue to use platforms like this and more secure. Less well known platforms that will continue to exist that will allow these individuals to mobilize and plan and I think one of the one of the big issues is that by the time we see this action taken, like in the instance of parlor as we know it's too little too late. The damage has been done. The acts of violence have taken place that were planned and organized on these platforms. The concern now is that the hardcore extreme is that we're worried about have already made these connections, whether online or in person, and they've moved into some kind of encrypted messaging app offline into places that are harder for Not just research is, of course, but for law enforcement to reach in and understand what violent plots may be perpetrated by these individuals. So I run into the U. S saying that Paula maybe should have been kept open in order to be able to track these people. It's all about trade off, right? I mean, I think there is absolutely a positive in many of the incitements to violence that we saw on parlor. There is a positive in those no longer being A place for these individuals to to plan future violence because we have already seen in the wake of the six. Many of these movements and individuals galvanized and mobilized in response to his events, we we've seen no shortage of communications, suggesting that They will return to the capital. They will return to other state houses over the coming days and weeks. They are certainly seemingly planning more of these types of incidents in response to what they view as the perceived success. What happened the capital on Wednesday but away from Paula? What did the ideas that have inspired these different groups or because they're near Nazis? Because They're anti gun extremists, so they have different kinds of agendas. Yes, So that's obviously a huge concern right is that we have seen a whole host of individuals not just at the Capitol, but mobilizing in response to that, and that's everything from like I said earlier from You went on conspiracy theorists who continue to to propagate those stop the steel conspiracy theories to crowd boys who we have seen at the Capitol undercover dressed casually, but there has been evidence to show some of them at the capital on Wednesday, as well as members of the Boogaloo movement who responsible for a host of plotted Domestic terror attacks, including the alleged kidnapping attempt to the governor of Michigan, as well as the neo Nazi white supremacist groups that are simply hoping for a societal collapse in a in a race war. We've seen all of these all of these actors mobilizing in response to the events on the sixth and we we expect to continue see that over the coming weeks. You refer to German of the six, which is obviously when The invasion off the U. S Capitol took place. But do you think that could become some sort of rallying point for these groups in the future? Generous six. I think we have already. We have already seen a lot of those narratives propagating. We have already seen a lot of statements that it was a huge success that we need to go back and do it again that we will march on the Capitol with guns. This time that we will march the statehouses with guns that this was this was inflection point, I think for for many, who perhaps previously thought that this was a You know, impossible thing are now are now looking at it and saying, you know, Hey, maybe this kind of extremism is is possible. Maybe maybe we can actually evidence results with some of these violent actions that we didn't think we could previously and I think that's that's a massive concern. John that was two monitors extremist online for George Washington University. We did approach part of for an interview. As lawmakers were debating certification of the presidential election. Their action forced a halt to debate which the House and Senate had each begun on an objection to counting the electoral college votes of Arizona outnumbered Capitol Police rushed lawmakers from the building. He denounced the action as insurrection and urged President Trump to call off his mob. Here's an excerpt of Biden's address what we're saying For a small number of extremists. "From NPR News. This is all things considered. I'm Ailsa Chang and Mary Louise Kelly in the wake of the armed insurrection at the U. S Capital today, still so strange to say those words out loud. Twitter has removed three of President Trump's tweets, and they have walked him out of his account for 12 hours. Twitter is threatening further suspensions if Trump continues to violate its rules, And that is a big blow for the president, of course, whose major means of communication with the public is Twitter. Turn now on to NPR Tech correspondent Bobby Allyn. Hey, Bobby. Hey, Mary Louise. Hey, Bobby. Little bit of a delay on the line. But let's forge ahead. What exactly was in Trump's tweets today? Just remind us what he was tweeting that drew this response from Twitter. Yes. So the one that I think got the most attention was a video address that Trump made And this came after hours and hours of Trump, saying nothing just as some of his reporter some of his supporters, you know, violently swarm the capital. You know who were who were being basically, you know, directed at at Trump over his concerns over over the result of the election and in Trump's video address. He did tell them to go home. But he also, you know, said that he loved them. And he also stoked falsehoods about the results of the election. And this is something that he has been doing for months in the lead up to the November election, But this video along with two other Tweets that Trump sent today were deemed to be violations of Twitter's rules. And instead of just slapping a warning label on it, which Twitter historically has done, dozens and dozens of times they took the unprecedented step of deleting them completely locking down Twitter's account and also saying President Trump if you don't stop breaking.
