"Thought that that was a nice nose tackle. He was a little bit, he was a little bit out of shape when he got to the Bengals. He's gotten into shape. They were hard on him. You know, DJ reader was one of the guys who really got on Tyler to get himself in the shape. And he is actually played significant snaps in the postseason, which I think is surprised anybody who has covered the Bengals. Everybody thought that Tyler shelvin was going to take his rookie year as a red shirt and come back next year and better shape. But no, they have used him quite a bit and they have used a couple of other players in there when Larry ovin Jovi got hurt in the playoffs. They've really piecemealed that defensive line together quite well. So let me ask you this kind of an external X Factor here. And I know you hate thinking about the game this way, but this is how I like to think about it. There we go. It feels to me. It feels to me coming into this game the bangles are playing with house money. The rams gave up all those first round picks. They signed all those big contracts. This is their window. This is it. The Bengals to me when they kind of went through that it was the middle of the year right where they struggled a little bit. It felt like they were getting tight. Yeah. Does it help the bangles that it's almost like, hey, we can be back here. We're just in the beginning of our window versus the rams who have to win this game. You don't think that lets the Bengals play any loose. No. I think the reason I say that, Alex is you get to the Super Bowl, you're there to win the Super Bowl. You're not thinking about it. I know. And I don't think they are looking at it. Here, you know, whatever happens today we're going to play relax and if we don't win. All right, that's not their attitude. No no no. It shouldn't be. And that's not what I'm saying. I'm more so saying,.

"Be here to begin our at least an 18 week run. At kind of around the three locations. Very excited. Jacket H. M s a very cool place to get an excellent patio outside and a lot of room inside a ton of TV. These Adeline bar that is a killer bar over there. So thanks to long next for having us and we're excited about what is ahead. All this is presented. By your Cincinnati northern Kentucky Honda dealers and it has brought to you in part by Hawksworth Blood Centers. Hawksworth donors save lives. Who will you save? I'm lions McAllister. He is Rocky boy. When we laid out some of the things we are optimistic about. I'm excited about what about rock Some of the things we are a bit may be concerned about or reserving judgment till we see further evidence to relieve any building angst we might have. Okay, so you might have heard this team has had an issue with the offensive line in the last. Really? Yeah. Rumors. 56 years. Yeah. So I feel fairly comfortable with the frontline guys, right? I think, you know. Add and Riley Reef. Is an upgrade. I think Joan Williams will play better in the second year. Trey Hopkins. I think we know what he can do. But depth. Lance where is the death on this offensive line? You look at Isaiah Prince who's a backup tackle. Two years of experience. Deontay Smith, Backup guard rookie Trey Hill, Rookie Jackson Carmen rookie Fred Johnson. Two years of experience, so Inevitably, once the last time any often in the offensive line in the NFL went an entire now 17 games without an injury or 10, right. So what happens when Deontay Smith or Isaiah Printers. You know, some of these guys that don't have a ton of experience have to come in. That's a huge question. In my opinion, no doubt I was talking with Jay Morrison from the athletic last night about that very issue, and he said they they like the young guys the rookies, but It's one thing to like it. It's going to ask him to step in right away, says if it's later in the season if an injury happens, you know week 10 11 12 when they've got some reps under their belt, and there, they get their feet under them. That's one thing. If something goes haywire with somebody early, this might be. I mean those names. You just reeled off for the twos and the lack of experience. It might be the least experienced backup set of offensive lineman in the NFL and three rookies. It's gotta be. It's gotta be. So that is a major issue as far as I'm concerned, and we shall see what about you? Well, let me let me finish off an offensive line because Jackson Carmen to me. He's going to be the guy who we watched through the prison mob what they opted to do to getting trading down. We knew all the names, whether it's Kevin Jenkins and granted. He's out now, maybe for the season with an injury. But there was the Liam Eichenberger your guy at Notre Dame. There was Walker Little Sam, cause me a whole bunch of offensive linemen and the Bengals it at 38 opted to get out of that down to 46 that opened themselves up for Are you sure you know what you're doing? I know they got two extra picks, and Tyler Shelvin and Deontay Smith. You hope for them in the future, But maybe you took a you took a roll of the dice on somebody who was a tackle. You're now asking to play guard and somebody was coming off back surgery on a team that just screamed out in need of an offense. Offensive line help! They have exposed themselves a little bit here. They better have hit on Jackson Coroner have nailed that. And let's be honest. The early returns are not good October himself who has never wanted to throw anybody in the bus, said Look, the guy came in kind of out of shape, and you know that sort of thing would look, it's tough enough transition from tackle to guard right for a rookie, but it's even tougher when you come in. And maybe you're a little bit out of shape and you're not don't look quite as dedicated. So that's you're right. That is a decision that's going to be looked at, like every week for the next three or four years. No doubt about it. I'll give you another one. That is, I'm kind of holding back on it. It's a slight concern until it's removed. And that's Jamaar Chase. And now there's a whole bunch of silly stuff going on a pro football talk is Is trying to take his comments out of context to say he can't catch the ball because the college football's are smaller and there's no stripes on the end of the NFL footballs. It's not what to believe there. I just know this. He's clearly experiencing drops to this point, and if you're wide receiver, the key element is holding on to the football and I just hope it's something that's not more up here now boarding to my head. That kind of grows with more evidence presented in week one if he drops another one. Ideally, you'd like him to make a big play on the opening drive of the game, and everybody goes who, man? That's the guy we drafted. But right now there's no you can't just explain away and say, Don't worry about it because it's been the story of the entire camp. He keeps dropping the football. It would be one thing. Look, sometimes guys have a game where they just can't catch the ball. But it's been oh, th has been camped. It's been scrimmages. It's been in the preseason games, so certainly an issue and it's certainly in his head. I mean, the guys tried a million footballs in his life. The only thing that's different right now is Is the fact that maybe inside his head and he's thinking about it, and that's a hard thing sometimes to overcome. Tell me how significant this is, and I'm not presenting it as an excuse, but we know he didn't play last season. Right, so he's shaking off that rust. Plus, he's trying to get up to speed at a speed he's never experienced before, if he were coming back to get up to college speed to be one thing. He's coming back after a year in trying to ramp up to the NFL game. At the speed of that game. There's got to be something to that adjustment of having played at one speed you as a rookie, probably said who this game's fast right? Well, it is and I always uses example by the only way to get good at something in life is to do it and to continually do it, not repetition, while And then take time off and do it again again, You know not to blow smoke up you but you are great at radio because you do it over and over and over. I don't know about you. But if I take a week of vacation off the first day I come back on radio, and I'm like God, you're a little bit out of whack right? So he takes a whole year off of football. So now he's trying to make up for that. Now he's inside his own head, and he's got everybody down him and all that sort of thing. So The only way this gets resolved is what you just said a big moment in the game, and that's where you would love to see. Joe Burrow have confidence in him on a big third and seven, right, right. In the third quarter, something like that, and boom, He constantly goes to Jamaar Chase. He catches it, and then that can be eliminated. Like just like that, Yes, but if it keeps going, it makes it harder and harder to come back from in my experience. Can I give you another one? Another concern and this is more coaching staff related. I was looking at the game notes today. This team has got to be able to figure out a way to finish off games and win close games. Let me give you some numbers Rock. You know, I'm a numbers guy. Yeah. In Zach Taylor's time here in games decided by three points or fewer. This team is 06 and one In games designed by three or fewer 06 and one in games decided by seven points or fewer. Zach Taylor's Bengals are 1 12 and one when they've led at the half 12 Times. They've only won four of those when they've led after three quarters 11 times. They don't want 15 of them Rock. I'm making the case right now, and that's coaching. You can argue, but guys got to make place. You've got to put you guys in position to make plays and this team's got to win close games and they got to finish off games or they're not going. Take the next step They have to take. What's the number? One thing everyone had against Marvin Lewis. The adjustments right? In game halftime in between drives, although everything and those numbers kind of indicate the same thing going on here, right that this is a chess match is going back and forth come into the game and you have your game plan. And guess what? First snap of the game. You may say we're going to throw this out because it's not working or we come out in the third quarter. We think they're going to do this, but they do that. It's just a constant. How quickly can you Can you adjust from that? And this appears to be from those numbers of team. That's not doing that well, and there's winnable games there. Three point yes, and and I don't have the statin front. But I've seen one of Alabama, Alabama, Alabama, but it's like when they have a lead at halftime..

"All of it. Uh, yes, sir. I think everything's going to be better from all three levels. Logan Wilson is a name that comes up a lot in that piece about people really think he's ready to take a leap. So you feel good about the linebackers with him in place. The defensive line is much better. I think they're going to be the they've struggled against the run for a number of years, and so much attention is on trade, Henderson and Sam Hubbard and and the pass rush, But those guys are both really good at setting the edge. And then you got Ogunjobi and DJ reader inside and Worked around pit Tyler Shelvin. Allah Bless you is a big run plugger. Think that the lines can be strong. Maybe the most exciting part is the secondary what they already have. Arguably the best safety tandem in the division, and now they've got three corners who have looked terrific and camp and really kind of played a role in Joe Burrow slow start in training camp because those guys were all over the receivers and making it tough on him. And I think we're going to see this team, maybe double what sack total from last year, and I think we're going to see a lot more interceptions. What we've seen the last few years. It's always been in the 11 12 range. I think they can kind of get up in the 18 19 range. This year. He is J. Morrison from the athletic. Read him the athletic dot com Follow him on Twitter at J. "So I am doing great this morning. So what are you doing? You're writing Maura today, right? They want more. Everybody wants mortgage me some more words. Give me 1000 words by noon Monday, right? Yes, they want to know what the depth chart looks like now. So we'll have an article on that coming up Monday morning because Dave Nimitz is probably the biggest taskmaster in the history of printed journalism. Is he not? He is, but I think he got he got Warren. Just his ragged is the writers did this weekend? Well, good for him. He'll probably lose whatever Harry doesn't have left. Dave and I worked as did J at Channel nine Wcpo many many years ago. Okay, I'm reading what you've written here. On the athletic dot com You and your buddy pulled dinner Junior been very busy over the last several weeks. Teeing up the draft and you have your best pick your biggest head scratcher and needs left. In the 2021 draft. Now it's not hard to pick the best pick. It's Jamaar Chase. Now that the hay is in the barn. Be honest. Were you assume the guy or chase guy before the draft? Oh, yeah, I was on record of the chase guy both as what I thought they should do and what I thought they would do it. Just it made sense for for so many reasons the job burrow connection with Chase. Well down the list on that. I mean that they needed a number one wide receiver. That the belief was you could get a better wide receiver in the first or better offensive lineman and second hand and you said the white receiver in the second round. So yeah, totally on board with the chase. I think fans are gonna love him. And I think he's gonna be a difference Maker on office. Yeah, Aziz, you say he blows the top off off the coverage and there's no question they did not have that. They thought they had it many years ago, and John Ross and we all know how that turned out. No, it's interesting. I I like to watch how other teams react to other picks inside the draft. I thought maybe the Steelers would react somewhat to that because they have to cover this guy. Now twice in a given season. Who knows more than that? They really didn't Pittsburgh. I think they took a corner back very late in their draft. They didn't seem to be a way that upset about it. The Ravens seem to load up on wide receivers. They really didn't address. Cornerback and so the fifth round in their draft and the Cleveland Browns, who you know are defensively I think are really good team to begin with. They did take a cornerback in round one after the Bangles took chase. They took Greg Newsome out of Northwestern s O. I don't I don't know. I mean, I often thought that that sometimes the NFL and on a draft becomes reactive, but I really didn't see it other than Cleveland didn't see it inside the division to that surprise you at all. Not too much because it is hard to be too reactionary. You've got your own needs. You need to take care of. And if you are going to be reactionary, it's gonna be teams at the bottom of the division. Reacting to what the teams at the copper doing as opposed to vice versa, where the other teams will react to the Bangles, And the other thing is that the Pittsburgh in Baltimore have really good secondaries. Last year, the Brown Need secondary help. They need linebacker help, and they addressed both of those 1st and 2nd round. You have your biggest surprise Tyler Shelvin, a massive man at of Ella's shoe. In fact, he was so massive. He opted out last year. I think he showed up at 3 75 in In camp. Sheldon is a run stuffer. They seem to have enough run stuffers. And as you point out, why would they not have gone after somebody at that point that would help on the edge? I was surprised by that pick because of the guys girth and his problems with health. And his problems with weight. I was kind of surprised by that pick. It sounds like you were too Yeah, I was positional E. I was surprised because I thought it would be more of a three technique someone that could come in and until the backup role to Larry Ogunjobi and enough surprised, too, that if they were going to get run step further be Sheldon because of the red flags. You mentioned he was suspended as a sophomore for lack of motivation and being overweight. In fifties got it turned around, he insists he's got it turned around. I know a lot of people love watching his tape. I mean, he really does jump out off the film when when he plays. He's such a huge human being that I think what thought process there was. They went into that round. No one what they were going to target. And those were bonus pixels, but that the Tyler shelving pick and the Deante Smith picked up the last pick in the fourth round offensive linemen. Those were the extra picks. They got from moving back in the second round. And I think when you when you do that, when you acquire extra picks And and keep him don't package or something else. Maybe you are a little more apt to take a chance on a guy and we saw that payoff in the fifth round as well, because I don't think there's any way they take a kicker in the fifth round. Pick up those extra picks right? Exactly, And those picks were acquired with a trade with the New England Patriots. But look, let's just Let's just talk about that for second. Um, they traded back, and there were some offensive lineman that were taken between when they traded back or before they traded back. And then when they actually got to pick, I'm just wondering. Do you think they were disappointed?.

"This team has Is pretty stout. The issue was always could they allow place to develop. So you you address the offensive line. You and free agency in the draft. You have Joe Mixon. Hopefully healthy coming back. You have tighter boy. Tea. Higgins. You've added Jamaar Chase, and you have depth at wide receiver on the question of Brian Callahan yesterday after the draft. Was pretty much over is do you have everything you need on this team right now? To have the kind of season you would want to have in 2021? Here's part of what Callahan had to say? Absolutely. I love what we have on our roster on office. Right now on, I'm really, really excited. About what we could weaken. Do I think we got a great set of really core young players. Had Jamaar Chase into that mix. Now you have an element of explosiveness. You know, Joe mixing it is to me one of the best backs and football you bring in Rob. The reef is a better in tackle. You bring India as a as a guy that's trying to get developed a great competition there with Fred and I say, a Prince. And common, Jackson jumps inside. Now you got a great competition inside. There's a bunch of guys in there that that I feel really good about. I think our team is in a much better place now than it was even a year ago. And I'm really excited about the direction that that we could go and obviously The core of it all centers around number nine. So that Z exciting to me. He mentioned Deonte Deonte Smith is an offensive tackle from East Carolina and the guys that were yapping on television all yesterday and the night before. Yapping about value and sleeper pick and what this guy's going to do Theon taste. Smith actually gets a lot of high marks, and I think And lost. Maybe in all the talk with Jackson, Carmen. Is the fact that the Auntie Smith Could be somebody that rolls in here. And whether he plays insider outside again get you into that project of rebuilding the offensive line. I don't want him to be lost in the conversation over Jackson. Carmen Defensively. Cameron sample apparently just blew it up at the Senior Bowl. And he went from being a very nice player. At two lane. Which is not quite frank. I mean, two lane is too late. They have not been a major power in football for a very long time. But individually, there have been players there. That you looked at you say OK, That guy translates into the NFL. They've had running backs. They've had quarterbacks. Cameron sample is somebody that apparently just jumped off the field. And right into the wheelhouse of the of the Bangles during the Senior Bowl. Cameron's sample will give them Someone else who might be able to provide a little edge. Rush apparently plays inside. We can play outside. Tyler Shelvin, a defensive tackle from L. A shoe 6 to 3 50. Now in 2019 18 39 tackles, three tackles for loss. They say he's terrific against the run. Not somebody that's going to be a playmaker, but somebody they can tie up a couple of defense of alignment. Allow wine backers to make plays. The only problem with Tyler Sheldon and he opted out last year and there was a line of thinking yesterday at one of the reasons why you opted out. He was massive. He was It was £375 when he showed up at L s U. And there were covert concerns and things like that. The only issue really with him is his weight. Right now, Listen, it's 6 to 3 50. But over and above that strength and apparently great hand strength and look at what they've done with that defense of line over the last couple of seasons. Okay? Just laid it out here for you. DJ reader, Terrific free agent signing for them of last off season. He should. He should be back and healthy again. They're starting to get options. That's what teams want is they want? They want good frontline players. They want options to behind them. In case something happens so yet sample and shelving and Smith all in round four. Three draft picks and round four largely Because of the trade that was made. On Friday night with New England that allowed the Bangles to drop back and round to get the offensive linemen they wanted in Carmen and pick up extra draft picks. And as far as Taylor's concerned that trade Was the key to everything. That transpired on day two and three in this draft. Here's part of what he had to say on that disagree with that. You know, it did feel really good to wake up today because it We only had that one pick that we were going to sit there with in the fourth round. There was a lot of players we wanted to add. We're gonna get three of them, and that is significant because that that's an area of the draft. I'm talking about that round, specifically where you were able to add a lot of competition in depth your roster. And get players who belong in this league and s O to get those three picks in that area and then and then quickly there in the fifth round with I think the sixth or seventh pick. There was really good for us. One of the most intriguing players they drafted in my opinion, and you can research this yourself if you've got Google and YouTube Joseph aside, Joseph Oh, size an edge rusher. Played at the University of Texas. He and his family. One, what was described as his mother as the American lottery. They received their they received their visas to the United States. And it was done and I believe in 2000 and seven And Joseph Asai. I and I think he has 44 siblings and his mom and dad. Immigrated to the United States immigrated to the United States in 2007. Mother was surprised. One day she had they just for the heck of it just applied for For this with the embassy, the U. S embassy in Nigeria where the family was It's a terrific back story on this guy anyway..
