"Back into the article specialist studios Is it when he's wrong. He calls himself out on it. So how 'bout that dodgers astros world series mark. Well got half right right. That's that's postseason though that's a push in In gambling right well. I don't lose anything that is through you to collect your money back mark but are you ready to finally admit the braves are gonna win this thing. Well yes we've lost Their first world series game every time the whole series and then they want one of them. So i i you know this is going to be. It's the fun series. Should be a really fun series. I don't really have a pick us. Who win. But i certainly have learned to this postseason not to count the asked us out. I mean that was dead in the water against the braves and the red sox they came back wants. So i i don't know how they're doing it the pitching staffs in shambles out burland or a healthy green tea and mccullers rolling back out through most of us have never heard of and yet they're here so i think it's a little premature to count them out all right all right. I'll accept. That mark is a former major league. Pitcher talk to me about how how difficult situation. Aj mentor dot. Last night. When charlie morton after pitching sixteen more pitches on a broken leg You know he goes out. Aj metric comes in and pitched fantastic. It did and and i see a situation. It's certainly not in the world series but jerry. Roy started the game against an oriels and baltimore and first-inning pulled a hamstring uneven. Forty something years old time a hamstring. And i was the long man that day so i had to come into the bullpen and baltimore and warm up. Essentially start your warm ups right there. On the mountain you don't get the warm up in the bullpen. And that's a really different thing because everybody's watching already wants you to hurry up. Get on with it. We'll start the game up and you gotta go through your normal routine which usually takes you. You know several minutes to complete. So there's a lot of eyeballs on you. It's an uncomfortable feeling to come in that situation and it's You know the tip of the capital as well as he hits because They certainly needed that at that point more did was inspiring his teammates. I'm sure They felt like he they gave. He gave them more than he had to be. Honest but Certainly my mentor did can't be overlooked. It was really impressive. Was an talk a little bit. More about charlie morton. I mean this is a guy that's been around the block. He turns it on in the postseason and man. After taking that line drive to pitch sixteen more pitches pushing off the mound of the broken lay. That is just insane. Yeah i got hit in that same spot. Push off put by a comebacker on the on the instep. I'm on my arch Against toronto by nelson larry as like a one hop bullet back foot. And i think it all taped up and i finished the game. I finish my all taped up. And tabby all that one out the next five days later pitching bluejays in milwaukee and larry hit me in the same spot at the same ball again to twice in six days and i. It's it's difficult. But you know what. Charlie morton is a competitor. He doesn't wanna come out with the game. But you saw that lasker by two zero to be on the paltry buckled like kinda gave out on the follow through. So i can say i think. He gave his teammates more than even had more than they could ask for it in that circumstance. And it's unfortunate he will get the kitchen in the world series especially. I know these other former astro. He wanted to be involved in this series. But it's a tribute to competitive is able to stick it out as long as he did. So it's interesting to now without him going forward. You know they obviously lost. Mike saroka early on in the season when you think of the braves pitching staff going forward and the rest of this. You know i. I did a little of everything. I wasn't closed in the big leagues. Long short relief starting the starting role has kind of been diminished. We'll kind of it has been diminishing. These clouds right guys are going wants through the batting out there. Almost every game and the postseason we've watch is gonna bullpen game. Maybe they'll outing against the red sox when he went eight innings. That's the exception than the rule. Used to be the rule right. We used to guys go deep into volumes. Starters not anymore. So i think the loss of a starting pitcher isn't necessarily devastating to believe it or not. Who thought this losing. Charlie morton wouldn't be as devastating that they lost a mentor or You know talking about they lost mazzi. I mean they're in deep trouble right. So i think they'll find a way to overcome lots of morton they'll just patch together the bullpen as they've been doing because everybody's been doing this whole postseason. I don't expect you to have a terrible words. We're talking with the khanates former major league pitcher author of the inside Inside pitch blog on kfi k. k. k. dot com. I made this note earlier. Wouldn't it be nice if we had the the braves general manager. I mean some of the moves. He made this team was forty. Nine fifty one at the all star break he brings in jorges hilarie brings in eddie rosario and those two guys i mean th there for their fingerprints are all over this playoff run. Well remember back last year when the public did the same thing. Right they did. They remade their wasser. And then they made it in the post. You gotta be daring a little bit right but you also gotta be during be good at it. You can do it you know. I don't like the so dirt on the guy. Donald dad when he was first came to the rocky was trying to do those types things. Every move was a bad. What a bunch of bad moves. It's not gonna make any difference. It's not gonna help you out so the rockies by nature are ultra conservative in regard. They value their own. Players are own prospects and unafraid to make trade And so therefore they get kinda left at the altar a lot of times we did see brightest make a couple of moves a few years ago when they got johnson. Luke roy and guys like that. The trade deadline pattni shack and that benefit is the team. So yes i agree with you. I think if you had joe manager was more aggressive or was allowed to be more aggressive and move parts around and not be afraid to part with prospects You'd have a better on the field product. At least if you're gentlemen judy was doing. And you talked about tyler matic Let's not forget. I mean matt scott like the defense best star in rockies history from an analytical standpoint in this guy that didn't pitch for five years because of the yips. His story is truly incredible as well. It's really inspiring because you know he was walking home opening day starting pitcher that year twenty fifteen. He started the home opener He was a bright spot. I mean he's a high school kid. Coming out graft in those kids take longer developed in the minors he did. They draft two thousand nine. You know five six years later that he bigly but you had. We saw the stuff stuff was a question but the command was and the the more the command got the more he got on himself about it. And i think. I read something fascinating. Sports illustrated about about When the rockies drafted town amount to the first thing they did was take away. The reason they drafted him is exercises workout routine in the shot. Put a heavy to helping train. They took that away from fearful. He'd hurt himself well. You just drafted the guy. Because of what he's been doing. And what do you become and now you take it away. And i think this speaks a lot to the poor history of development of pitchers in the rockies organization. Yes it had their bright spots mark wiley certainly made a difference when he came in and twenty eleven or twenty twelve and spent ten years helping develop what they have now starting wise which is really good but the problem with the rockies in the minor leagues is they get mixed messages from different levels of organization coming up. They don't get a consistent message all the way up through the system and they think they're trying to make them they try to take the square whole lotta times and i think Magic a good example. Now what he what. He overcame as far as the hips. He he was released by three or four other teams after he's up to rocky It wasn't just the rockies gave up on him and then he told around for five years he he got signed by the white sox and to mother teams before he finally out of himself turned into pitcher. He's a he has now. And i know bill smith back bill smith iraqis. Gm now if the guy drafted that tick and he's sitting there saying you know what if and when they got away but there was no way to predict the guy would have the intestinal fortitude to fight through. He's fought through to get back to where he's.

"Jeff, when I look at the Atlanta Braves of 2021, the name that comes to mind still is the name of the guy who is not available. And that's of course Ronald Acuna junior. They're superstar. They're all world outfielder. Who we've talked to you about for a long time on this show. He's been out since July because of a knee injury. How did that knee injury inadvertently paved the way for the braves to get to this World Series? So this happened when we were in Denver at the All-Star Game. And that night. We had a big ESPN dinner and I remember getting a text, just said ACL. And I was like, oh God, no. Breaking news here on SportsCenter Ronald Acuna junior will need to undergo season ending surgery after an MRI showed a complete tear of his right ACL. I think I'd add a glass of wine and I gotta go on SportsCenter. And I'm setting up my computer in my hotel room. It's a total debacle at that point. And I say this to set up the fact that I believe on SportsCenter that night, I said, this almost certainly means that the Atlanta Braves come the July 30th trade deadline will be sellers. If the braves are going to be anything at this deadline, it's going to be a team that is trading players away rather than looking to acquire. What I didn't know was Alex anthopoulos, the president of baseball operations for the Atlanta Braves. Believed in this team still. And so you lose Acuna, a top 5 player in baseball. You're pitching SAP as a question mark, your bullpen kinda stinks. All these things, and the fact that you're behind the mets in the standings, lead one to believe potentially that, yeah, you know, maybe this isn't just our year. But Alex anthopoulos does not operate that way. And he went out and started by getting jock Peterson and continued by completely remaking his outfield. A point of weakness for the team all season long on the fly. Atlanta essentially remade its team for a bunch of low level, high risk prospects, non prospects, or in one case, just straight cash. And the way that they were able to maneuver and end up with what they've got now is one of the more incredible stories of trade deadline maneuvering, I've seen in my almost 20 years covering baseball. And Jeff, like in your defense here, right? When you look at the regular season standings, I mean, it does not foretell dominance from these Atlanta Braves, right? I mean, ten teams made these playoffs and of those ten teams, nobody had a worse record than the braves. Nobody Toronto, Seattle, they won more games than Atlanta they missed the playoffs. I mean, you can go down the list and all these mathematical comparisons to make the point. So how did this team full of a bunch of groceries that nobody thought would amount necessarily to this feast? How do they get past the Dodgers who won a 106 games? How do they get past them in the NLCS? I want to start by saying if, you know, we can look at record, but we also should look at Ron differential. The brakes had a plus one 34 run differential. It was better than Milwaukee was better than St. Louis. It was better than your Yankees. It was better than the Red Sox. So this wasn't like some kind of scrub ass team that just backed its way through a poor division into a playoff spot. We have to remember what the braves do have. And we talked about the great infield of the Houston Astros. Atlantis got a pretty great infield itself with Freddie Freeman first base, Ozzie albee's second base dance be Swanson at short and Austin Riley, who's in the midst of an extreme breakout year at third. They've got Travis darno behind the plate. They've got starting pitching. Certainly all you need is three starters it seems these days. And they've got Charlie Morton. Ian Anderson and the best of the three this year max freed. And what they've got in the bullpen is what made the difference Pablo between them advancing to the World Series and them being just another braves team in a long line of them to flame out. And the idea that I would be sitting here and talking about the Atlanta Braves bullpen being a strength. When the most constant thing in September and early October was Will Smith trending on Twitter, and we're not talking for like getting jiggy with it Pablo. No, Jeff, we're talking about no, we're talking about Will Smith Atlanta's closer. Who, over the last month of the season, was like a walking nitroglycerin prescription. I mean, if you watched Will Smith, at the end of games, your chance of a heart attack went up by a good 75%. And the fact that that guy has not given up a run, this postseason. The fact that the Tyler Matic, who was almost out of baseball a couple of years ago, had the yips has turned into this absolute monster leaver. The fact that AJ minter hasn't given up, this is like nasty boys two. And the braves, they're just full of surprises. At the beginning of the playoffs, if you had told me that Atlanta was going to advance the World Series, I would have thought that completely crazy things would have needed to happen in order to make that a reality. And the truth Pablo is that nothing crazy really happened. They were just better than the Dodgers. But one of the things I do feel like qualifies as crazy, Jeff, is the fact that the NLCS MVP is Eddie Rosario. And on that, I mean, I think of what was said after his home run in game 6 against the Dodgers a three run Homer by Eddie Rosario. He just electrified this crowd and the braves have a four one lead. Who is Eddie Rosario and where the hell did he come from? So I come to you, Jeff. On the eve of the World Series to ask you exactly the same question. Who the hell is he? And where the hell did he come from? Eddie Rosario is a 30 year old left Fielder from Puerto Rico. And more than a decade ago, he was taken by the Minnesota Twins in the draft and sort of slowly worked his way up the chain, stuck in the big league because he could hit a little bit. He's a guy who had 30 plus home runs one year who is famous for not walking, like ever. He's just a free.

"It's a 6 time in Atlanta they'll go to the World Series and the first time. Since 19 99. Today, the athletics Britt girlie on how these two powerhouse offenses match up. And under the radar pitcher who could play a big role and what's at stake for both of them, in the 2021 World Series. From wondering in the athletic, I'm Tiffany ocean Shinsuke. It's Tuesday, October 26th, and this is the lead. So Brett, we want to look at how both of these teams got here. And players who could be different makers in this matchup. So first, the Astros, who beat the Red Sox in the ALCS. And when a lot of us think Houston, we think hitting, but as you wrote, it was actually one of their pictures, framber Valdez, who may have turned that series around. Can you tell us about his impact? He said after his first outing in that American League championship series and outing in which he did not complete three innings, he was humiliated. He felt like, no matter what happened, he was going to go at least 7 innings in his next start. And that is exactly what he did. High fly ball into left back near the wall. It's caught by Brantley another one two three inning for Valdez who is through 8. Amber Valdez went more innings in his game 5 start in Boston than the previous four ASTRO starters combined. Wow. Far and away the best playoff outing by a Houston starter. He did it because he was able to bear down. He was meditating between innings, the broadcast got him kind of slowing things down. A guy like framber Valdez, when he can command the baseball, he gets a lot of ground ball outs. So if he's commanding that ball and he's not walking guys, you are seeing double plays. You're seeing balls pounded into the ground, and that is what you saw with the Red Sox lineup. Valdez is unusual, and then for a starter, he only has two pitches. He's got that big sweeping curve ball, but he is able to, again, control where both of those pitches go. He can be an absolutely devastating pitcher. So what Valdez did was really turned the tide and really changed a lot of opinions about can the Houston Astros without their best starting pitcher, Lance mccullers, junior actually continue to be a very good playoff team and the answer to that Tiffany is a resounding yes. Well, as we've kind of mentioned already, beyond valdes, there are some questions about this pitching staff. Obviously, in today's game, you don't need starting pitchers going super deep into games every night, but do the Astros have enough pitching to get by. If you would ask me that a week ago, I would have said, absolutely not. However, watching for amber valdes, watching Luis Garcia, who changed where he stood on the mound and was able to go deep into their game as well, really has me convinced the Houston bullpen. We know they have Ryan Presley. We know the Kendall graveman. We know that Brian Stan. They have some relievers there. And we also know that they have the dusty baker factor who knows when to take pictures out. He said, a guy was not a pitch count. He was on a performance count. You know, he is a throwback a little bit to the olden days, and we know that Houston has been on the forefront of analytics. So when you marry those two, you get the perfect storm. And that's what we're seeing right now. So I do believe that Houston can cover for the loss of Lance mccullers junior if they get the same kind of productive outings from vampires and Luis Garcia, and maybe even Jose or kitty, I think that could be a real key for Houston going forward. Meanwhile, when we think about the Astros offense, the household names are guys like Jose Altuve and Carlos Correa. But it was a couple 24 year olds jorda and Alvarez and Kyle Tucker, who really carried this lineup. What did they bring to this team brand? A lot of offense, like you said. I think when you look at the Astros, it's easy to say their window is closing. And then you look at your donut ores and Kyle Tucker, and you can counter with, well, no, it's not. These are two young, terrific players still coming into their own. Alvarez, what makes him so dangerous is that he doesn't have a weak point. You can pitch him inside outside up down. He has proven that he's able to hit it pretty much anywhere on the strike zone. And that's important because he's also a strike zone hitter. He's a very disciplined hitter. He's what you may call a new age slugger in that he can hit the ball out of the ballpark, but he's also going to be very selective. And Kyle Tucker has a lot of those same characteristics as well. That to me is why Houston is set up, not just for this year, but for all the years beyond that as well. Well, that's the flyover of Houston, so let's move on to the braves. Last week, we had David O'Brien on our show to talk about how resilient this team is. And we saw that play out in game 6 against the Dodgers. Can you help us relive the drama that we saw in that last game? There was a lot of drama in that last game. And I think you look at what the braves have been able to do and Dave O'Brien is right there, but able to overcome adversity. And probably the real turning point in that game was when Luke Jackson was in the game. Really struggled. And down the left field line, that is a fair ball. Coming into score is Taylor. And it's four to two and the Dodgers have two in scoring position with nobody out in the 7th. And Tyler vaccine came in. This was a guy who was out of baseball because he had the yips. He was afraid of being these big situations. And a few years ago, magic was pitching an independent ball. He couldn't get a job in baseball. Now on the biggest stage in his career. And that is where the game turned around. One and two. Strike three. Maxick. Burns off the edge. Struck him out. For the second out and for a guy who was crippled several years ago with the anxiety of being on this big stage. A guy who came so close to quitting baseball to be able to go in and attack with an upper 90s fastball. That is where the game was won. He's a half dozen hitters he won up in this situation. Bets is on that list. And a half dozen pitchers you want on the mound right now. That magic is on that list. What a matchup. Here's the no two. They kept the Dodgers from scoring, and you started to believe after that that this could be Atlanta's year. You talked about Valdez meditating, then you see matzo taking deep breaths before every pitch of that ending. It's like these two teens are kind of meant to play each other for even just this meditation, deep breathing moments. Yes, I think more people need to realize the power of the mind and the power of your mental self and you're seeing it now on these big stages. These guys take deep breaths, even when they aren't meditating. You see it in the batter's box. You see guys fiddle with their batting gloves and they're not fiddling with their batting gloves. They're resetting their mindset. They're trying to put things behind them and valdes put it perfectly that no matter what happened good or bad in the previous inning, he takes it he thinks about it and then he throws it away. And I think that applies to every pitch, every out, every aspect of baseball and really in life as well. So the very zen Tyler Matic came up huge as an unexpected hero in that series. Offensively, the hero for Atlanta lately has been Eddie Rosario, who was named.

"Savant dot com the home of statcast data on the internet. You can look at a lot of this spin rate data. Not even just after the fact but in real time as well so what i wanna to do today was run through once again here and look at some spin rate decreases in their recent starts or appearances. Some of the guys. I talked on the last show like dylan bundy or a griffin canning. Both of those guys had some velocity concerns in their most recent starts. But guys like tyler anderson and the relievers for the pittsburgh pirates lot of spin rate decreases across the board juan de peralta of the yankees reliever gyms karen check of the indians reliever tyler of the braves or reliever obviously garrett cole trevor. Bauer tyler male guys like that. But as i said i'm trying to kind of parse out the velocity drops because that will impact spin to a high degree so to run through here by day going back to thursday. We need some guys that have had some spin rate decreases and is that i think are worth paying very close. Attention to and i've highlighted. Some of them were the velocity has gone up but the spin rate has gone down and those are the ones that i'm paying very very close attention to here in the near future and something else to and i'll talk about this a little bit more. Once i run through this list is that it's hard to be most obvious to see what starting pitchers and starting pitchers are going to get the most run the most publicity out there for having spin rate drops but a lot of relievers are going to be very negatively impacted by. What's happening here and i'm not gonna say that you know if you guys are doing it. Everybody in the team is doing it. But kind of based on what. I've taken a look at so far here. There are some teams where it does look like a lot of their bullpens using substances kind of sharing ideas stuff like that so there may be some bullpens that will be negatively impacted by this alleged crackdown which supposedly started yesterday where umpires can take more of a look at it and all of that. We could very well. Get our first suspensions this week so we'll be on the lookout for that as well but just run through a list of guys here to kind of keep an eye on you as i was doing this too. I also saw some guys that maybe we've had velocity and spin rate decreases to where i kind of be worried about some underlying injury factors or something like that. I'll try to run through these quickly if you want to get on the list for the box notes and i very much encourage you to do that. Email me skating. Tripods at g all your i do some email so you wanna be on the list for the show. It's very easy to do. that's something i think. You should definitely do here as i run through. This list of names has certain looking at some profiles of some teams. Maybe that are kind of doing this more than others if we get a lotta pictures on the same teams kind of popping up. Well that's something that we may want to take a little bit of an extended look at. Let's go back to thursday here. A reliever to start things off. Lucas sims for the cincinnati reds fastball. Velocity up spin rate down on his fastball about two hundred and twenty nine rpm from his season average. In that appearance on thursday in fact we also saw that again from him on sunday. So lucas sims a guy who's pitching in high leveraged for the reds right. Now uh some pretty big spin rate decreases. That's a guy that you want. Keep an eye on and also probably a bullpen unit. As well that you want to keep a close eye on. I've mentioned tyler matic a few times here for the atlanta braves. But in thursday's appearances. For luke jackson and also chris martin two guys with some spin rate decreases coming out of that atlanta bullpen and atlanta bullpen. Which was very good last year. Very good the year before. Hasn't been as good this season. They really haven't been able to get into form so far this year. For one reason or another but matt's definitely appears to be a guy that's been using something maybe martin as well jackson spin rates came up a little bit in his appearance on saturday. So maybe not him. But i do think that the reds and the braves bullpens are maybe a couple of units that you do want to watch closely and as i said. I don't want to accuse anybody directly of anything. I'm just looking at interpreting and analyzing the data to see what's out there but there are some guys where does look like there are some shady things going on and maybe some teams as well. So as i said the reds and the braves too bullpens you wanna keep a very close eye on here not spin rate related per se but just to sheffield of the mariners in his start on thursday velocity was down and his spin rates. Were down so maybe just the day where he couldn't get loose or something like that but keep an eye on justice. Sheffield for his next start. Maybe some injury indicators there with him more so than you know using a substance or anything like that thursday. We saw a big decrease in spin rate for chichi gonzales of the colorado rockies and this is one two or that was a road start for him. That was down in miami so a road start. And if you're seeing an average fin rate decrease on the road where spin rates are typically going to be lower at chorus field. That really stands out to me. So gonzales is very much a guy that i would keep a close eye on. Why dipoto once again on thursday a velocity drop. In fact he's been used quite a bit. This could be more of an injury situation than anything else. But i do notice as i go through the player breakdowns over a baseball savant. Wannabe peralta spin rates have been down pretty consistently across the board. So there's a lot going on here. Maybe it's an injury. It's you know the stoppage of a substance something like that. But juan de peralta of the yankees is getting a lot of work and is a guy that is popping up a lot here in my research friday. We saw max scherzer where they would decrease spin rate but then he leaves the game with a groin injury so that appears to be injury related more than anything else. Speaking of injury related lakes now his spin rates were down velocity a little bit. Low fastball was down slightly. Keep an eye on this one here to blake snell here coming up in his next start on wednesday auburn on friday. Spin rates down. A little bit fastball. Velocity down a little bit as.

"Like i said i think a lot of relievers are using stuff. I don't know if jacob barnes's i don't know if brandon workman is who had a velocity drop in spin rate dropped this week. Juan de peralta for the yankees back to back appearances for him with significant spin rate drops. So tyler matic another one for atlanta back to back appearances with spin rate drops. So i think a lot of relievers are guys that could get caught in the early going here as using these banned substances. I don't know if other teams will call them out on it if the umpires will have to do it. Maybe it's kind of a you know we're all going to band together here kind of mentality because we know our guys are doing it too but i would anticipate that a lot of relievers are guys that go to the microscope here and i just noticed over the last few days. Barnes workman peralta. Juan de peralta. That is and also tyler matic some guys with some pretty big spin rate decreases in their recent appearances and of course that could just be a fatigue factor too. You know if you're working back to back days three and four something like that. You're not going to be a sharp so again. You just have to apply a lot of context to this. There are a lot of variables that come into play that. I don't know if this is substance related or if it's just you know environmental factors or whatever else. But i wanted to throw out some of these names that you can look for them for yourself. So starters so far darvish and bundy another starter. Here tyler anderson any very big. Drop four tyler anderson. Now tyler is a guy that was pitching in colorado pitching in colorado will hurt your spin rates but anderson is a guy that has had a pretty big jump in his fastball spin rape within the last three seasons and again it could just be getting out of colorado. But you know could have also been used to the giants now. They're kind of working on ways to increase spin and also the pirates. They were fourth in average fastball. Spin rate when we talked about this on on monday and decreases across the board for most of their pitchers on tuesday and then anderson on wednesday. So i'm starting to put together enough context clues that i feel like the pirates are team kind of incorporating these substances to a fairly high degree again. Maybe that's off base for me but it is something that i would take a look at here and with the fact that the pirates aren't very good pitching staff at aren't a good lineup. At all to begin if they start seeing decreases and spin rate across the board as the early indication seemed to be a team. That's probably just twenty much worse and we're already seeing a lot of money bet against they're coming in against them all of course of the season here. I don't think that that's going to change at any point. In time casey mayes had a spin rate. Drop any velocity decrease in yesterday start. That concerns me on my is in the tigers. They want him having a walk off home. Run rob and then lost the game in extra innings. That may be worth following for potential injury here for casey mayes. So keep an eye on that. We'll see what is velocity and the spin rates. Look like in his next start next week but that may be one to keep an eye on garrett cole. His spin rates were not down as much yesterday but he also threw harder than he has at any other point this season so throwing harder would create a little bit more spin for him. So i don't know we'll see garrett cole obviously a guy that a lot of people are watching very closely here. He may just decide to go ahead throw harder and maybe that's the thing that he wants to do. Something i noticed. Yesterday gyms karen check of the indians pitched mop up in just trying to get some work in for him but a big spin rate decrease in that appearance for karen. Jack and karen check is a guy that the white sox broadcast put on blast last week because they noticed with steve stone noticed something in karen checks glove the way he was kind of rubbing his glove there. Karen check then with a big spin rate decrease for this last appearance. So maybe that's one that you want to focus in on and of course the bullpen. The biggest strength for the indians at this point in time so if karen check is going to be quite as effective that's something that would make it very difficult to bet on full games for the indians here for a noticeable velocity drop for griffin canning. Yesterday down velocity down. Pitched wellhead eighteen swings and misses. But just something to keep an eye on there but the fact that it was canning and bundy both with these velocity and spin rate drops makes me wonder if something was going on with the technology there at angel stadium. So i'll follow up on that one but again it's very hard to determine these things in a one or two game sample because of all the different factors that are out there so wanna throw out some names on today's show kind of give you some measure of direction and tell you how to do it by going to baseball savant dot com going to the game feed and then looking at the player breakdowns. Once you get into the game feed for the individual games they got all of this listed in the notes. Would you can get if you email me skating. Tripods at jimmy dot com.

It's sort of been on the back burner, but it's really come to the fore Now, Tiki. I mean, how do you? How do you justify what's happened this year? When you see all these scenes jumping ahead of a team like Cincinnati so that they clearly Don't have a legitimate shot at the playoffs, even though they're in excellent team, and you know, because they have G five in front of their names are just part of it is one thing to do You really think about the methodology of the committee and What? I don't understand by the woman. Excuse me. I don't understand. By the way, I mean, I get it. They have their methods, but the rest is it seemed to be flawed. Well, Yeah, Cheeky, I think has become a beauty contest. You know, it should be decided on the field. You know, Bill Parcells said, And I think he was actually right. You are what your record says you are. If you lose games, you know you can't you simply well, we think they're better, but they lost the game. By that token, the United States, uh, hockey team in 19. Excuse me in 1980. What would have would have come in second because they have said Well, even though they beat the Soviets, the Soviets were a stronger team, and they had more convincing wins earlier, and they had beaten the Americans and Madison Square Garden the week before. And and so the fact that you had the biggest upset of you know the century, uh, that the committee could have said. Well, we just don't think there is good even though they want because Louisiana beat you know Iowa State at Iowa State by 17 points, and they have a 91 record. But there and I was state has two losses. And it's not as though and nothing against the big 12, But you know, they didn't have a stellar season. They lost those three games right away to the Sun Belt. Oklahoma lost to Kansas State. I would submit Tiki that if Cincinnati lost to Kansas State this year, they have a tough time being in the top 20, and that's just the way you know. G five teams were treated, and so what? Let's not make it a beauty contest. Let's actually see it determined on the field because otherwise why play the games? Why you bothering to play the games? If somebody does You know, creating upset or wins a game that maybe you know the other team. You know, the Tweedy didn't think they would win. Given credit for that. Don't just say well, they're really not as good as the team they beat. Or they're not as good as you know this other team that's lost two or three games. When Flora had the game against Ellis, you're completely depleted Team with a brand new quarterback. When they lost that game, and then you know, only dropped a wrong and stayed ahead of Cincinnati. There was another telling feature, and then the committee will say, Well, we just think they're better, but you have to play have to do it on the field in the area, and Max Johnson is a freshman started that game with relish you and b e. P. Florida. It made no sense. Mike Aresco, the commission of that Casey is joining us here on Dickie Attorney You know, you mentioned a couple of times how you view the A C as a power six squad. There has been some reports, whether true or not, I don't know that Boise State might be looking to join the A. C from mountain from the Mountain West one. Can you comment on that and two If that should happen, because boys he has has pulled themselves into this conversation is one of the elite, you know, college football teams in the country, year over year. Does that help you with your argument to be a P six? You know, cheeky. I really can't comment on it because we just never talked about expansion and you get yourself in all sorts of trouble. You know when you do, Um, we've said down the road that we would certainly look at 12 team, but you know, there's nothing going on now and Down the road. Who knows now, in terms of Boise and other programs, BYU their tremendous programs you let's face it, they just are And you know there are others programs out out there. They're terrific, too. In our case, though, when you look at that our teams and you look at the strength of the teams. You look at me at last year s M U beat TCU Last year, Kansas State beat Oklahoma but the Navy beat Kansas State and that's pretty typical for us. We typically have those kinds of winds. You know, you see, have one supposed to beat Baylor back in 2000. You know, the 14 2014 New Year's Day Fiesta Bowl and they scored 52 points and Blake Bortles was top draft pick. And you know we weren't supposed to beat a 3rd 9th ranked Florida state in 2015 when when Houston beat him by two touchdowns. We weren't supposed to beat Auburn. When you see Effie Auburn and we played competitively in the game and the future couple of games we've lost. No taking another telling things to about this conference. It's developing more, and that's where we have more and more objects in Colin's. I've heard. I don't know if it's true may opt out of the bowl games against Mississippi State because no e think that came over the wire, But we've got more and more players now who are NFL quality who were either coached up? Who or we're getting 34. Even occasional five star like head Oliver. And what happens is, you know we it hurts us in the middle level Bowl games because you know players opt out. But it just shows you how strong the league is. And I don't think people realize this but in 2015 when Temple played Houston in the championship game, and by the way, Memphis was team that year that beat Mississippi after they had beaten Alabama. They were tremendous team. They're undefeated, good part of the year. So what maybe was a terrific team that year, Cincinnati was But those two teams 27 players on that field of have played in the NFL or are still in the NFL. That includes, you know Tyler Matic, a vaginitis Kasan Reddick from Temple and You know, obviously great Ward and all the great players from Houston landed Roberts and William Jackson. These were great teams, and you see it when they played Memphis 17 players on that field, including a magic quarterback Mackenzie Milton, who you don't know what's gonna happen with you hope it's gonna be successful because he's a great young man. But 17 players on that field from in the NFL or played in the NFL, and that's been true. Now we had many draft picks is the big 12 a couple of years recently, so you know the league has really improved. You know, we've done in a lot of different ways. But if you look at the death when you have four different teams playing at New Year's day, it means you've got a lot of depth in your league. Not to mention the temple just missed. And you know, you see, after a couple of years there had those kinds of teams were getting good coaches. We lose some, obviously, but we get really good coaches to replace them. And I just think the league is we're just separate separated. We separated ourselves from the other G five. You know, they have some good teams from time to time. But the overall balance of our league is what is the factor and You know again, I think long term who knows? You know what's gonna happen, But we're gonna have to fight for everything. I do think that there'll be some changes. I think this year though. What's disappointing this year, Tiki. It seems as though the committee doubled down the last couple of weeks. You know, there was an animus criticism on purpose, right? Like they intentionally did it like without, even just because they were making excuses. For teams that were supposed to be good that weren't playing well. Yeah. Yeah, That's exactly right. And I don't know what their motivation is, and I hate to describe motives to him. But I'll tell you this when you have almost universal criticism of what you did, and you know it was indefensible to put in Iowa State team that had that record and had that 17 point home loss. And two losses ahead of Cincinnati. And by the way when a and M didn't play, they didn't get dropped. I will stay in the Ohio State Miss three of three games. Andre hadn't had played one game since the 21st and play.

I've been leading the charge throughout the offseason that Cleveland was a guarantee was a lock. To make the playoffs. I wonder next year. Where we view Lamar Jackson. And if this time next year Was that maybe just a down year after the M V p season and now Lamar Jackson's back in that n V P conversation that will be very telling. Will still go with Lamar Jackson because you have a great coach and Harbaugh. You have just a great And a well run organization. And, yes, the Browns and Bills have made significant improvements. It's very close to being buffalo. I think on this poll question with Josh Alan, I'm still going to go with Lamar Jackson bounce back. For next season. So who wins the Super Bowl? First I go. Lamar won Josh Allen to Baker Mayfield, three. But it either the Browns of the Bills ever win a Super Bowl. Remote Cleveland remote buffalo. Gotta be in buffalo. They win a super Bowl. "1st and 2nd. Then dance me Swanson in Austin Reilly. They each move up a base on a wild pitch. All of this while Nick Markakis was at the plate, however, think about this. There's nobody out. The Braves have just taken a one run lead. They got runners at 2nd and 3rd. That this happens. There's a pitch swing in a ground ball to third. Coming home is Turner and they got Swanson in a run down. They throw to Smith back to Turner. Turner puts the tag on the runner. Now we throw to third. They tag Riley. And it's a double play 5 to 56. They get them Both. They get Swanson and Riley all of a sudden what looks to be a huge ending potentially for the Braves. Roof goes up, doubt done. 32. Still, Braves do have the lead. They would continue with the lead. Although Ma'am in the fifth. Freddie Freeman thought he extended it by one first one. Freeman swings and drives it at a year. Right field That's going back a track nearthe wall jumps and he caught it. They stole a homer from Freddie Freeman. What a play. Mookie Betts has done it again. Holy cow! Yeah, it's probably the best thing you could say both without getting in trouble. I mean, mochi bets in back to back days. Yesterday was good. This was ridiculous. He absolutely Rod Freddie Freeman of a home run. It remained a 32 game. All of this Well, each team works their way through Patriot. "So that would put him at five and three. At the Jets win right should be a win six and three. Baltimore. I give my loss six and four. That game is in New England, but, yeah, I agree with you there at Houston. Jim Irwin, seven and four Arizona Should be 18 and four Chargers. Should be win nine and four. Grams. Go loss. It's in L. A Nine and five. Miami. You know the Dolphins? Is it in Miami? They always give you beat him earlier in the year to go nine. So then go nine and six. Then they play the Jets. They played Buffalo, which already gave him a split when they put the Jets So you probably say when that's 10 and six that division is going to be close. I think a lot of people since the Pats or two and two and the whole camp covert situations you anticipate Cam is going to be back on Sunday. I don't know if that's for sure. But that's what you would anticipate. They get Gilmore and Cam back. But who knows with the complications? So and look, the Tennessee barely missed anyone tonight as well. That division is going to be a fun division and real quickly when we do the landscape of the divisions. So the FCC is between the bills in the Pats. The SEC West. The Chiefs are definitely going to win that division. The North. Steelers, Ravens and Browns that could go either way. I don't think the Browns will win that division Browns have a big game up against the Steelers that would still probably say it's between the Steelers and the Ravens. But I like the Browns to make the playoffs this year. The South. It's a two team race, Tennessee and the cults. You would probably go Tennessee right now. The Colts I just can't trust them with Philip Rivers each and every week. You don't know what Philip Well, you know what Philip rivers going to show up? Is he going to go win them A game this year, eh? Do you have any confidence from now on to the end of the season? As you would anticipate with them. There's going to be a lot of close games, right? Yes, absolutely. You think he goes on three game winning drives this year? Who I would probably say no, To be honest, I can't. He's shown nothing so far. So I'm gonna say no and their schedule Bangles. Lions Ravens Tennessee Packers. Tennessee Texans. Raiders. Texan Steelers Jaguars may be up against the bad teams, he gets it done. You shouldn't need a game winning drive you up against a bad team. So the only division that is really decided in my opinion in the FC so far or the two I know it's not impossible for the Colts will win it, But even you as a Colts fan, you would anticipate Tennessee, right? Or you're not ready to go that I'm still not ready to go there. Okay, That's fine. I would put Tennessee is the favorites in the clubhouse for sure. Not ready. Say it's over yet. No, I would be surprised even though it's not impossible. And I'm not a big fan of Tennessee. I would be surprised if the if the Colts end up in that division not like stunned just might be a little bit surprised with the way Philip Rivers is point. The Chiefs of that division, then being a forum one. I know the Raiders got a victory that three and two, There's no way the Chiefs was that division. That's that's fair to say correct. 100%. Okay. So then the FC East and they have seen North is the really juicy race there in the sea. And then in the NFC. Going to be the Eagles of the Cowboys. In the West. You would think Seattle, but the Rams are right behind Seattle. Cardinals are a team that I think they'll be like nine and seven. So I don't think the one that division and the 40 Niners. I don't think they're making the playoffs now in the north. I know the bears air off to Ah, very good. Start better than when anyone could have thought at Forum one I would be My my job. It hit the floor. If the Packers don't win that division But I don't believe the Panthers already at even though they've won three straight. It's gonna come down to the bucks and the Saints in the south and I would take the box right now. Just little overall landscape who has a shot and I think that this is gonna play on out. We'll do a news brief next first up with the latest CBS Sports Radio Update. We get to rich document. Sports play for the first time since 2010.
