"And once you start to chases a hitter, you're screwed. You start going out on strike zone and then guess what They see that in in the time of a two at best span. Once they said, You know, you're not a strike so they don't give you strike. They don't even give you an in Costa strike and you're just fishing and then it gets worse. You're only resolved. You have to learn patients back to the strike zone. You have to get better pitches to hit, and that's what we're starting to see you last night. He had to attach. They were beautiful, and it was beautiful because He was taking a corner pitches. He wasn't looking fastball and swing it off speed stuff or vice versa. He was staying on the pitch he was looking for, and then lo and behold last night to two doubles. Too great A that's and you start to think all right. He's made the turn and know that we started to see it, You know, kind of Real action behind the plate. And it goes hand in hand you'll you're getting confidence in the box. You're going to be confident, confident, squat and vice versa. And so that's what has to happen in last night was it was huge as they go forward. It was huge as he goes forward like they're trying to get to the playoffs. They're trying to do with rookie catcher and last night he looked like he belong, and that was a significant Big, big, big game in his development. Confidence is huge in everything in life. Hopefully he got some last night on then, of course, you know what we're learning about Farhaan is, you know you just got to pay attention every day, because when they pick up a guy Whether it's bas, obey or whoever smoke. You're going to see this guy in a uni and I say that because we're going to talk about Daniel Robertson, you know, used to be kind of a guy got picked up. You're like, Yeah, Whatever. But no, No, no. Get ready. Here. He's coming. And now this guy is playing shortstop last night. Now they tell him to go play left field because Besa B gets hurt. They're out outfielders, and Mike is to play the game, right? Kid Hampson. It's a ball down the line. It looks like he's going to maybe stretch it into two. It's a 21 ball game. You're going to run around second. Nobody out. The lineup cards about to flip over, and instead, Robertson goes over and throws him out. Mike. That's gotta be the play of the game and just speaks to sort of Ah. I don't know, like Farhaan sort of like waiver wire magic on that, like I just found a guy and guess what he's going to go make a great play for us. Well, he knew about it. He came up to the organization. He was a high draft pick and, you know, he's a guy with above average defensive skills. That can play, you know, literally seven positions and but never hit. So you know, he was a good ad. Plus, now, you know, he's starting to make some improvement in his approach at the plate. You look at him. He's the guy that looks exactly like Justin turn. Me and you watch this style of hitting and and, uh and he started to get little swagger, too, which is good offensively, but You put him on the game, you know, to play shortstop and give Crawford arrest. I mean, it's It's kind of hard to follow the steps of of Crawford. But you know, he could do it. He's good. And he's got a good arm and so little behold. Last night, he gets out there and something in my field, And here comes Garret Hansen, who it's a leadoff What, everybody in the ballpark ballpark that was going to be a double. Oh, and The Robertson goes over there, cuts it off with great footwork to get to the play to get moment. I'm coming into second base throws a strike on the fly to Solano, who himself makes a great tag. And Hamptons out Bang bang by six inches, and that was significant because it's 21 game at the time. That's a leadoff double. They don't get. That was the play of the game. So they go on, and they make a little noise. A school run. They try to score. But look, if they don't get that out, that's when they could have taken control The game. That's when they could have a big, crooked number and then it's like lights out. See you later on, too. So what? What Robertson did was the play that not only, you know, Stop the threat that brought moment. Um and that's such a key thing, so they give up the one run and minimize the damage. And what happens when they come up? The bottom seven. Here comes Dickerson boom home run, and they have a big inning. And so Robertson really was the M V P. We all thought, Yeah, but he has played 31 innings in left field, Not a lot, but he had been out. But that's the kind of thing Farhaan notices on the baseball card says. Let's get him up. We can throw him throw him in the outfit. If we have to. A little bit on Dickerson. Mike, you know, just way were actually we wanna pin down a rabbit hole tonight. We're earlier this morning where we actually compared him to Bryce Harper. You know he's having Arguably a better year than a guy like Bryce Heart. Bryce Harper's at 11 Bombs. 28 ribs hit into 47 tickers at 10 Bombs, 27 ribs. He's hitting 2 90 something His O P s is, I think higher than Harper's. I'm This isn't about a Harper comparison. Put. My point being is His place about a year. And you point about. You can't play them all the time because of the back, But I mean this kind of pinch hit pop off the bench. I mean, this is that's everything in, especially in a pennant race. You and I like I like guys who could get two big, big level. You know, they work hard to find a swing and and when they get it, they know they've got it and maybe elusive. It may take a while may take three weeks they may disappear. But then when they show up They're all predicted. And and this is exactly what Dickerson has done. I mean, he said, this, you know when the chance of going into Colorado goes, you know, I got a good swing right down like I don't have much show for, but I've got a good swing right now, and he took it right into it. Colorado. That was a three home run night as five hit night is five extra base hit night. And, uh and he just he's just kept. He's kept it going. And when he does, he's dangerous. Right now. They know he's dangerous, and it's good for him too. I mean, celebrate the birth of the sun and their first child, and this is an amazing time. They'll look back and I never will never forget this time. This life. Just you know, he could carry this team all the way the end. Wow. Wow, Tio, It's great. And then Brandon belt with a big knock last night, I guess maybe just kind of before the little of housekeeping here. Is about the catching situation. You talked about Joey Barton, the backup catcher Chadwick Trump. Whoever he likes good personalities had some clutch knocks. I guess he's out now with a AH is the shoulder strain. That means Tyler Heineman's up. I don't know, Mike your thoughts on that. I mean, that means if Cueto pitches again this year parts probably going to catch him. I How do you read this whole catching depth situation here? Well, I don't know if Bartel kitsch quite again, I don't know. I mean, it's too were starts arguably in his career is a giant have been with bark, and they just don't have The rhythm. They just don't make no mash and you know, at this point in time, I mean, it's important to consider that as your ifyou're did capture making out the lineup, so The good news is bad news, of course, is Trump is out. He's ill. And because you got to be in a injured list for 10 days, it takes him out of of the regular season. He could resurface that the Giants were to be to get in the postseason. Um, but the good news is, you know he had surgery on the shoulder last year..

"Is for for 31 has not even had a single extra base hit. Played four games, of course field. The old one. Off the inside with a changeup. Just John had mentioned it was a good point that Jastremski hadn't been getting a lot of hits on this trip. Today is three of them today. Stretch coming into today only had seven hits total on the trip. In nine games 11 There's a big, slow curve in for strike two. Jastremski seven hits. Three doubles and two homers. Plus six walk strong. Koreas have four singles in one walk all trips and he just had a tough time of it. Wanted to the count. Here's the pitch. He strikes out swinging man. Did he chases slider way outside? Two down seven drinking strikeout. Comes 100 pence, toying with some of these Giants hitters, Rimsky Has been the one guy Tyler Heineman's hit the ball hard twice. Brandon Crawford had a good swing. Wilmer Flores has made some loud contact. Only have six hits, three of them US, Stransky to down for Pence. Takes the curve in the dirt. Frankie, you can hear him not grunt with pitch. Run his dissatisfaction with the way through it through that curve ball because the whole idea that big slow curve is to throw it for a strike. The 10 Catches the outside corner with a cutter strike one Hence grounded out too short in the second struck out swinging in the fourth. Two down Nobody on sixth inning A won one game. A pitch from Greinke called Ball Greinke and his catcher. Both thought that was a strike. Statcast thought it was a strike. That's gotta break their two on one. 14th Big League season for 100 pants. This counts as his eighth season with the Giants. That's a lot of years in that Giants uniform after the hiatus last year. To one on the way he swings in rips. One on one, hop to third back into by Bregman will throw on a bounce to first scooped out by Gloria for the outmanned Pence hit that thing right on the nose. Into the defense. Bad luck for 100 Pence Giants gone in order. Caleb character going back out to the mound. I would think so for the Giants when we go to the bottom of the 6th 11 score on KNBR, Northern California, Honda dealers radio network. Are you finding it harder.

"Honda's summer clearance is on. Shop now and save in person or online. Jeffs a margin on the mound for the Giants up against the rookie left hander who was impressive. Colby Allard first time the Giants have seen him. The Rangers jumped ahead in the second inning. Gallo singled with one out so lax single and there was Tyler Heineman's kid brother, who homered in his lasted that last night. Facing off against his brother in a big league game for the first time, and there seem to be some carry over. He blasted a double into the gap in left center field today to put the Rangers ahead to nothing and later in the inning, Mathis singled him home. Texas had a three Nothing lead with the Giants got it going in the last of the 2nd 100 pens in the clean up spot facing the left hander Allard and some margin was on the telecast with us at the moment, the home run and he drives this one out into the wide open spaces. Deep right center field way back there, and one hops the wall just to the left of the 4 15 marker. Ken's hit second turns the corner digging for third. Here comes the relay, not nearly in time. A sliding triple for 100 pens. Yes, a pence first hit of the year. Now Evan Longoria has been swinging the bat well, this is only his fourth game of the season. He opened the year on the injured list. He's been swinging a great and he was up there trying to get pants home, pitched on. There's a high drive out of the right center field. This one is going to be a fairly easy play for Heinemann. And he's under shy of the warning track makes the catch. But Pence tags up heads home and the Giants have their first run. So Longoria getting it done. The Giants later mounted another threat. In that same inning, Solano walked And with two down Trump reached on And error by kind of fur left putting two men on but Then Allard was able to get out of the jam, so it was 3 to 1, and it stayed that way until the fifth inning. Margit kind of settled in and retired seven in a row until kind of fur left. I lead off the fifth inning with a single With one out. Shin Soo Choo got all of one There's a smashed by Chu and that bone is gone. That's going to head out. To one of those kayaks out in McCovey Cove. And it is 50 on Texas. So chew becomes the 50th visiting player to hit one into McCovey Cove. The Giants have done 82 times. And that's 132 times somebody has hit one into McCovey Cove. On the fly in the this now the 21st season of play here, So so what's that? It's averaged a little over six times a season in the 21 seasons of baseball. Here on the shores of the cove. And a lot of those were by one guy Barry Bonds, so bonds had with 35 36 or so of those, anyway. So Shin Soo Choo had two home runs in this series. That was the big one. The Rangers had a big lead, but The giant said, been making comebacks from deficits, big deficits against the Padres Wednesday and Thursday, and they did it again here today. They got started in the sixties thing the Rangers were in their bullpen. In Jimbo was the pitcher and, ah Jimbo had given up a run in the fifth inning on singles by Crawford and Flores, and then Jastremski who did not have a hit today. He was old for five and but he still put them on and play with the infield backed up and they've got the ground ball and so a productive out to get a run home. Which it made it only 5 to 2. I'm sure he would like to have Dunmore. But atleast you got that done. You get around 30 lesson to done. You've got to get him home, and he did so a tip of the cap to him, So it was 5 to 2. Then Jabo still in there, and the Jackson started hitting shots all over the ballpark, beginning with the man who led off the sixth inning, Evan Longoria. Swinging. He hits Ah, High drive into deep left field. You can forget about this one. It is way up in the bleachers homerun for Longoria. What a shot that wass.

"KNBR 1045 and 6 80 The Sports leaders debut first pitch fastball from dust in May. Right down the middle but 97 miles an hour and Heinemann fouls it off to the left out of play for strike one. Tyler Heidemann new Giants. Signed him to a minor league contract this winner. A good year in the minor leagues last year. With both the Diamondbacks organization and the Marlins. The Owen pitch, he squares around but pushes about third base side with nobody playing there, and that's going to be Tyler Heineman's first Giants hit. It's a bunt against the shift. The ninth place sitter and the catcher Very well done. He's a switch hitter. Batting left handed against Dustin May and I look like he done that before. The Dodgers had him shifted and Worked beautifully. For Heinemann. Well done. So a base runner for the Giants That's the Giantsthird hit against May. And back to the top of the order. Mike extreme skiing. Left handed hitter against the hard throwing young right hander. Still, only 22 years old may throws a cutter and that's AH Hi strike given by Bill Miller, So he's given the low strikes the high strikes. He's got the classic Bill Miller huge strike zone working tonight and that that is true to form. That's always been hell. Will Miller has done it one of the very biggest strike zones of any empire in the big leagues. Nothing. Nothing. Giants Dodgers third inning, you strip ski the hitter with Heinemann it first. Justin Bay. Pitches and, yes, Trotsky goes to but pushes that one foul. So the Dodgers playing an over shift on you, Stransky, although I think it's Seeger again, we're just not getting a whole lot of video information. But I believe it is Seger, who's left on.

"It's all disconnected or touching on the regular, the nickname that tensions are going to talk about the fact that you're supporting a clear position players when you've been thinking that Abilene or truly score for 400 in relation to joint down the second, you have to talk. At Newman particular situation this game to play. How much time do you think Bart would have actually gotten? Behind the dish as catcher half the Games 1/4 of the games. What do you think? Glass listen less and less intercourse because, you know, I talked to far on in a podcast just a month ago or whatever, and he really was liking Tyler Heineman's chances of get playing and playing a lot this year because he's a switch hitter. Because, he said, good offensive player. He's coming off a pretty good year. They think they've got a player cut on the uptick so and then Brantley's a left handed hitter who Who's a decent hitter as well? So I think you know, but but you know they're not blind if they if Bart shows up in whatever opportunity he gets. He's a force, you know, and you know, they may throw him in there and play and then the game plan has got to be playing every day. Wherever he's going to be. He's going to play everyday right. He's going to play everyday interplay or whatever their thing is going to be their second team. Or he's going to have to play every day in the big leagues because you still want to sit I look at this as though they're going to miss his leadership, and they're going to miss him behind the plate there. Not going Mrs that much because his bad hasn't been very good. The last couple years when you look at his O P. S, 7 41 6 88 last year. His war wasn't even one last year, and I don't know if that's offensive war or total war. It's probably this offensive. I'm guessing because defensively, he's still stud and controls the pitching staff. And thank you and he and he's a leader, you know, and in easy. He's a calming influence in the in the dugout, so There are some intangibles there with Buster, certainly and some tangibles. It's just the tangibles on offense. The main offense, they I don't know what anybody expected to buster this year. But I'm a TTE The point now where I don't expect a whole lot. I mean, there's a lot of thought was you were going to get a healthy Buster Posey fully recovered with the situation, but I mean, he obviously rushed himself back. And he rushed himself back to playing games with me all over the back of the building where we thought we had a little time to recover from the surgery, and he was only played. Listen in case you're behind the whole time. I'm just gonna say sometimes ability to hit and remind the old Buster Posey away from its original. He was at this point last year..

"Really a limit how far on handle this here because I think there should be a lot less player movement a good observation very good observation mark W. Sanchez on Twitter covers the giants and other sports for came B. R. dot com now the top prospects I I know this is Joey bart is Luciano there's Rameau's in there as well hunter bishop is in there Patrick Bailey they looks like they're going to be part of the sixty anyone in that that group you think they could make the major leagues and I realize is a three person taxi squad that gets to travel with the team at thirty even at twenty eight twenty six but these guys just along for the ride here what do you think the majority of them I'd say our our longer there I'd be shocked if we didn't see some pointed here and the only thing that is the only reason we won T. and may have you know Michael middle nothing here he will be there on opening day but he will be around he will be on the same number thirty man battle team and she'll come up at some point you know they've got Robert Lee and Tyler Heineman behind buster Posey and Max interesting guys to very likable guy but no one that sort of the man playing time in there until yeah but I'm going into another guy I think the only Rommel's will probably see some point I wonder about a guy like Corey for that you'll be included who's a little bit further down the other they've all done with a lefty he's got all the giants hello I'd be surprised if you live in the fall and if you're in the pool but I think you've got a shot but in terms of Luciano I think he's the most intriguing one of all of it all the way to come up with your friends okay well that's another good observation that sixty person roster has got to be submitted by Sunday and I think that's one o'clock Pacific time and that is that is the sixty person roster so South Korea let's see if if mark is right that maybe he could be included in that the DH for me and I know I know you said maybe the chance to be at a disadvantage but when I think about it I mean you got sand of all from the left side you've got Dickerson from the left side if you want him so you got pens from the right side you've got there and rough who's going to be part of this thing and a great spring training I argue in my opinion I think they they have a little bit of strength in the DH spot I do think carefully of options that that is always a lot of strength where you can go right he left the there are so many guys in camp who they're going to look at and say this guy we want to do I think you know talking long term it's good that they have another route of getting you guys to get no more playing time you see what you have in there where a regular year would be hard to see what you have you know you look at the others when you can put money in there and just all around us the last I just think there are more in commodities that other people have okay all right I'll give you that I'll give you that only lets with this I don't think it's gonna be a minus for the giants as it was in two thousand two and then different periods of time here within our league over the last couple years but I I don't think it's a minus I think it's something that lease they can hold their own and so put it that way all right now the giants did release a couple players Tyson Ross Nick Vincent Jamie Westbrook any surprises there for you not necessarily maintenance it would be the most surprising I would say only because lows when when games start in again it can start figures are gonna go at most three innings is that so you're looking at a full open field that will have to be very deep you're gonna you're gonna shortly and we might see some records here in terms of interviews because you can turn to so many and then you can paste very well with can't happen until late last year he was not in camp so and I think that probably made a big difference taking roles would have been nice to to the image more but when you've got a you know a guy like that I guess he was a major trade he was probably the third in terms of that swing man you know come in the fourth inning pitched two innings the guy so they're they're starting to narrow it down a little bit seeing who will be on the medical.

"Clock I say that's ridiculous I think Joey bart is easily one of the top five right handed hitters hi guys organization right now and I think that he can help them with the T. H. and I think that you know small sample size give him an opportunity get exposed to the major leagues he's talked about is going to need all three options so maybe he started triple a next year and you know we'll start from there that works his way back to the roster but I really did believe during spring training Joe Barr was a far superior option to Tyler Heineman a robbery that's not to get their skills hi Jews do you think the jury park is close to being ready and you can kind of facilitate the process of getting an even readier for twenty twenty one by the looks of it giving it regular backs this season the bullpen becomes very important is this Paul Penna strands or they're too many question marks there are so many question marks Marty because I couldn't tell you three guys who were who were you know on the ball right now I I think that so many of these guys Wetherby Tyler Anderson A. underscore as Europe Rodriguez where are the starters are the middle relievers are they guys who could eventually catch in the sixth or seventh or eighth innings I'm not really sure and so it's hard to see the way this whole thing comes together I think that that'll be one of the greatest challenges Gabe Kapler and his staff faces this season as a society who pictures when but they do have a number of really good arms you know they're gonna get restaurants are back in the middle of this season there ensuring that this season would hardly Garcia who looks really good during spring training have Tyler Rogers he was unavailable at the end of last season only even more dominant during spring training and so I think with him anchoring the back and they they have a lot of guys who could be really good now it's just a matter of can the pieces together over sixty games and there are so many different scenarios where things could go wrong in that regard yeah I got is another one that you think so yeah yeah absolutely perfect I would not surprise me if he was thrown high leverage innings and and particularly because trouble docking go two innings at a time Marty and I actually did this year actually really valuable if you got driver gotten Tyler Rogers story she winnings every three days it might be more valuable than having to go in one inning sparks because you can break up the game a little bit happen get six Alcatel not faced with a one time only use the one key reason so hi I could definitely see the giants to my day job skills in that regard we're gonna have a lot to talk about over the next few weeks on roster composition so we'll see how this plays out they get to play a few actually exhibition games at the ends of maybe some inter squad games as we go along so there will be some damn you guys got to get in shape so we're gonna have a lot of personnel stuff to talk about I can see that coming up over the next few weeks in a couple of our other notes forehand was in the news now you've covered the city side when you've been through the protest Nieves really helped educate everyone know what's going on within the community during the time you've been doing it farmhand got into it this week with the councilman from Scottsdale no just blasted the guy and the as I've said many times I've I've never heard anyone with a baseball title like that take on something like this councilman in Scottsdale what was your take on it are your do your own controls are on for standing up for the giants the organization all the people within the organization who were rightfully and justifiably offended by what guy Phillips said because it was it was horrifying to watch it was disgusting and no one like him should never hold public office so for him to come out and use his platform and Kate and I applaud him for that and you know we're we're supposed to be objective about things already in the business of journalism and and I have not talked to far on about this but I you know I just received being you have to agree with that because what took place in Scottsdale was visibly upset it was really disturbing and I hope that the people of Scottsdale realized the guy still up it would damage that he has done because it was it was horrifying and you just can't justify anything like that asing I'm glad finance said what he did another St Ignatius guy is now a part part of the system one of the I think they've only signed about five or six free agents and now you got a another guy from your school yeah Robert analytic catcher who began his college career economists transferred to the university of San Francisco had a really strong seventeen games with the dons before the season was cut short in the corona virus pandemic where he would actually start as a grad transfer go play in the SEC Arkansas and the giants would him away from that they have the home sound Poland so they get everybody in the organization I'm not so sure he's a guy that you'll be seeing on top thirty prospects list but I do know that he is a really strong defender behind the plate a high on base percentage this year had a little pop in so there is there is a pathway for having to come through the organization and I know that's hard on a stacked up on catchers and we're still catching up to something they really like but rob Emery is that he would get behind the plate as far as defenders are concerned so you can never have enough how bad your organization well Sarhan is coined the phrase I never heard it before one hundred fifty years of baseball you can't have enough catching you can't have enough runs you can't have enough pitching but I've never heard you can't have enough catching but he certainly he's he's making that happen well we got plenty of talk about with him looking forward to our next few weeks I really am and then of course we we do our regular pre games which of course you're part of as well so you're back to work in a lot of things happening but at Terry there's a challenge ahead for everybody in this thing and this is not a piece of cake no not at all Marty and you know we always have these discussions throughout spring training can this team stay healthy care team keep keep older personnel together heading into the season and I was taken on a completely different meaning in twenty twenty with the start of summer camp came to help he no longer works for the army to.

"Our good friend and the value of the the athletic joining us this evening Andy what's going on how are you mark there is very little going on about you well I've got three kids so it never feels that way like it did it I I don't I don't stare at the wall window at any point during the day for that matter but by the way before we get into anything I've been asked by another one of our guests tonight the esteemed and Kelly and I've been asked to ask you about coffee what do you want to know well give me your coffee order and then maybe shed some light on why everybody else says go to everyone it's time to talk coffee well I usually don't put in an order because I I kind of have my own set up hi in fact I just I know just what now I knew I had some time on my hands I bought a new roaster I would say that this probably falls in the light commercial duty category okay so yeah if if baseball doesn't come back I I need a side business so yeah I'd like to do my own roasting that's what cold brew going to got some coming espresso machine going I just I just replace some gaskets on my espresso machine if you really want to get into the weeds on it so yeah I I guy I experiment with all regions all origins and you can do a little blending from time to time so keep keeps me awake yeah well I think that's why most of us drink it but it but for somebody that's on the newer side of it is there is there like is there something you can tell me that I need to know all like if I were going to a coffee place and I'm like yeah this is kind of new to me one of the suggestions are passing along okay the number one suggestion I would pass along is some people really like darkly roasted coffee and the number one rule is you like what you like but generally speaking there's a reason that Starbucks roast a lot of there being stark and that's because a lot of the beans are are are not very good to be honest okay that's not too different from a state you wouldn't go to a to a gourmet restaurant in order like the most expensive fully on the menu and then ask for it to be well done just like you know if you do that the case is going to give you the worst piece of meat right same thing same thing and try later lighter roasts and and and try some cold brew because of some of some of the lighter roasts and cold brew you get some really crazy flavors and light flavors and you pick up a lot of notes to different things and it doesn't just taste like burning you know and and and a lot less bitterness too so if you're just new to copying of the copies to better highlight roast on cold brew and in that major change here your opinion so if I go to Starbucks a few times a week you're basically telling may I meet the tenants reward there are a lot of Starbucks that have to clover brewer which is like a basically a really cool way to brew coffee they basically bought out the the guy who invented it and they have a good selection ops those are really good and they have specialty copies that they use in it but a lot of the just regular standard old Starbucks you're just gonna get like the blind roasters you know what what is that the pike pike place blend yeah that's the firewood water my plants with that stuff okay everybody really breaking it down as as is as very few cared what are the chances that you and Joey barter gonna have a socially distant coffee together at some point this summer that's a great question I I don't know I'm not quite sure but I'm guessing you're you're getting at a question about something I recently wrote yes yes indeed you did and and I think it's interesting the way you even wrote it you're like well this is a question that was asked but the answer is obvious I I firmly believe based on things like you know money at Arizona there's gonna be some attempt at baseball this year is it for gone that if that's correct Joey bart as a major leaguer well so it kind of laid out the whole the whole case for it in in that piece about why you know if if they are able to restore games and it looks like you know it's gonna be a lot more of a challenge and perhaps not the same reward for minor league affiliates to to play games or if there is any minor league team action it's going to be like scrimmages or camp competition or something the only one chance really to develop a player who is going to learn on the big league level and and that's to put him in the big league level essentially and that's gonna be the only competition only opportunity so that he can learn as somebody's already twenty three is going to turn twenty four in December I don't they don't wanna start you know when I started the kids clock until he's ready maybe doesn't make sense to give more for your service time appealing to play you know an eighty game season but by the same token you know it might be worth it to to not have a lost year development for guys going to be critical to the turnaround of this franchise and the more you look at it okay they might play double headers well that means you're gonna need a backup catcher more often they're gonna have a universal DH probably well okay you can have Barton Posey both in the same line up quite often you eat it just makes more sense the more you look at it and if there's one thing that I've sort of appreciate or understand from just a year plus of covering four hundred eighty this is a guy who will look to operationalize within the rules any any as the rules change his strategies will change he's going to look to used to all the rules in bend them into his favor and internet scheme is way around any rule intended to his advantage so you better believe as some of these rules are changing there's gonna be a little one off of the season if they are able to get it going you can bet that the foreign debt is going to be right there thinking of okay this didn't make sense before but it makes sense now and calling to report up to make his major league debut on opening day the more you look at it the more it's not just makes sense but it's obvious yeah I'll take it even a step further with fans of the giants so badly wanting something on the offense of side to get excited about what do you think the reaction would be from fans if the giants didn't have Joey bart on this roster well if they don't put him on the roster it's probably because the minute evaluation that's just not ready there were thrown to the wolves but you know then again they heard Gabe Kapler because they wanted someone who could basically be a farm director as manager and you look at the major league because the fourth level of development which is kind of what it is so you're right the only other thing we didn't talk about is is that they don't have another catcher on the forty man roster right now so they're gonna have to add somebody to that forty million what I've been told even though there's likely to be expanded rosters you know for teams if we can get a season going the forty man would still remain the fourteen so you're still going to be hemmed in by you know only having a finite number of players on their end whether it's Tyler Heineman rob Brantly or both probably because you'd be looking at a scenario where the giants would probably be carrying a third catcher you know none of those guys are on the forty man just buster is there Mister sea is obviously for for the year so you know if you're gonna have to burn a forty minutes but anyway why not use it on your part yeah that's pretty interesting so wait a minute if the forty mainstays the forty man how are you going to have a thirty man roster to twenty person taxi squad well so like some of your taxes what people would be people on your forty man roster and then the remainder would be made up of of guys who would be sort of upper level dept guys or or minor leaguers in your system they could be on the taxi squad you know without being on the forty man but if you want to put him on the active roster with active rosters thirty two players or whatever it is if you want to put them on the active roster they would have to be on the forty yeah boy that's the way it was explained to me but it's all moving at all changing I mean you know this is none of this is set in absolute stone this is sort of the way that it's going to be presented to players and they're going to go through a lot of negotiations and a lot of things could change but right now that that's sort of the way that they envision it going hi everybody leave the athletic I know right now is the time because the first few days of the negotiation so it's the time for big talk and they're gonna argue about money and and the safety issues are real all right Trevor Bauer came out today and said the first proposal was laughable but I look at the whole thing and I say you know did everybody just kind of playing their roles here like the other two three weeks from now they agree right I don't think so I mean who who's going to to come back to baseball if if they allow squabbles over money to stop them from playing I mean if if they if they come back and they say we're just not comfortable with this from a safety standpoint or or we just don't feel like this is the right thing to do you know no one's gonna hold it against the players for that but if if it definitely becomes a war over money and that the owners say okay you know we're not going to guarantee your salaries we want we're not going to pro rate them over the number of games we can squeeze in like we had agreed to we're going to use this clause in our agreement because we're not gonna have any fans in the stands were gonna lose forty percent of our revenue which is tied to that to ask you to basically take a revenue split instead of these reduced revenues and the players already said he looked at the salary cap we don't do salary caps and you kinda wanna grab Tony Clark this is a final tells and say you know what this is a one off situation told me that this is not agreeing to a salary cap forever this is.

"Four Willie Mays plaza about that tickets are furnished by our friends of the San Francisco giants opening day in San Francisco even better with a four game ticket back and the opening day back includes opening day against the Dodgers on Friday April third and started just eighty nine dollars your last chance to purchase the opening day back as March thirteenth by at SF giants dot com slash pack is only available if you ever see that statue of him of a button for the first time I like the status quo yeah I like that statute okay so he got this the giants sent Joe bar down to minor league camp I had a bad reaction to that too like so I didn't I don't know okay but let's be on the account you want to know but still I don't know he wasn't an open on the roster I know because if you did where was gonna play in you know do you want to come up and ride the pine you know I mean I don't know I don't know you spent to expected it but still when I got the notice yeah Anderson two things can be one is there's no place form into it you want to stick around yeah can yeah but so what the deal was he was seven for sixteen with two bombs many sixteen FSI limit your busters ten for twenty two is that a great friend of the bomb yeah but anyway so the deal is quote is eighty I think it's time for him to get ready for the season on the minor league side and get more regular at bats obviously this is the time of spring when guys start getting closer to playing full games and we've got a couple of guys rob Brantly and Tyler Heineman in competition for the backup catching spot and we need to see more of them some people said okay if this is kind of following the buster Posey timeline when he called up during the twenty twenty season has bust was drafted in what eight oh nine I think right nine oh nine and then he debuted at No nine it debuted a number of nine yeah this twenty ten he was rookie of the year might have debuted had broken his hand right and I was looking at the numbers were because we were debating this in and when we were in Scott still about like how many at bats and Kris Bryant have before he came up and said I think it's Joey bart spends like a month and a half or two months in the minors this year they'll have about the same number of at bats buster did when he got called up okay so guys maybe this is just a small delay of what they're trying to make a long process here they were asked they said the meeting was upbeat with Joey bart and I we like Joe but we had a couple times now he's a really easy got it to like and talk to you and he said that he's yeah he's ready to go workers catching and in terms of playing in the big this year quote this is eighty that's his expectation for sure that's a reasonable goal for him and us so I'm gonna hold you to that far on do you see this big giant poster on the wall Polly with the twenty twenty season schedule at some point in their schedule Joey bart will make his mother makes me feel good it does me good to drive as I think collectively we all need something to kinda look forward to at this point considering I mean by some accounts maybe not by all accounts but by a lot of accounts this is kind of a transitional year I think I try to rebuild this this team in the in the likeness and image of a of a far haunted Kapler but to know the parties out there and parties coming and we're almost going to like turn the page into this new era yeah I think it does matter I think it does count looking to the schedule just thrown a dart I would have hit the giants open a homestand against the New York Mets on Monday June twenty two fine how's that fine that's my you know put it in the box against the gramas first a major league at bat well if welcome big skid yeah by the way that we can enter the Dodger weakens a bar can get warm and then heat up and then bang the Dodgers around that we can then either way welcome to the bigs it no problem you just got to see the grommet into Syndergaard going tomorrow so I guess and we had a mom that he was not playing any other position right now did you go to the city was going to work at first yes and during spring and rich but they said that yesterday the now he's gonna get work at first that tells me that if buster I mean sponsors hidden in his plan will be on the plate they're not gonna move him right well when they drafted the guy we all said well they have a catcher so this is going to be I mean they drafted him No and they got to make a move at some point yeah and what that movie is is that buster to first base busters defense is so good he's such a great defensive catcher so being you put party first base and and is that was made for Brandon L. future you know can you move a belt at the trade deadline we have an aspirin a belt unfortunately I know well you give a big long interview John Shea you see that we get along nice long interview tomorrow from Matt I know he does he'll do the giants did a big thing on MLB network yes they were they all talked and our friend Farhan Zaidi went on yeah and he started they they went with the big picture questions to him and one of the questions was about Gabe Kapler do you want out of your way to hi this guy nobody was banging down their door to hire him he got run out of Philadelphia is one of these Brady bunch things where it's like well he fit the suit filed like Johnny Bravo that's inside Greg Brady kind of reserve this why did you choose Greg Brady to be the new pop idol well he fit the suit he does fit the silica matador sued bro with the shoulder pads I was headed to gave get used to the aviator shades on a sunny day well I fit to suit the AV I'm not sure about my mirror in the marriage yeah was he in the going over the rail anyway so far on on hiring Gabe Kapler well I think the profanity in the pudding and as we have gone through cancer and even throughout the offseason as Gators reached out the players and they've seen the program he's trying to put in place here and I think it successfully put in place over the course of the spring you know the players really body and I think their public comments have reflected that so it's all gonna be about what he does getting buy in from the players and eventually from the fans won't be disappointed baseball so you know I have a lot of faith in the organization has a lot of faith in what you can bring in the natural and he your company's gonna prove it in the coming years the proof will be in the putting Polly approval but I'm not gonna lie I like I like a little ahead of chocolate pudding I'm not gonna lie what we talked about the putting gonna be hard to get a start in LA then you gotta go to Arizona face Bumgarner and then you gotta bring LA here then there is only comes in here's the first two weeks guys the putting might be a little the putting is going to be swirling all around that put a idea might not taste that good the first two weeks meanwhile I'm expectations for twenty twenty because we really just what twenty twenty is it more than seventy seven but you got you seventy seven wins last year can you top seventy seven wins our voices out there like for example one of our sales guys Nemo who we used to famously call the concerned giants fan who is always a kind of doom and gloom even in the World Series year should be like I don't like the way Crawford looks I don't like the way about the plane meanwhile they're peeling off titles he was saying yesterday concerned friend neighbor we're saying he thinks it's just gonna surprise people this year really he's a pessimistic giant voice wow yeah well I mean surprise I guess it is great to be have no expectations what a great spot to be in nobody can there's zero pressure there's no pressure on these guys not right now so I mean yeah they went E. V. O. two one games will go nuts yeah I'd be a nice year so far were met expectations well come in and you know feel like they have something to prove that as an organization collectively we have something to prove because I don't think the expectations for us for me you know the broader baseball media diet but L. like players everywhere in the league these guys have a lot of pride in you know we have young guys who are committed to taking a step forward you have better ones who think their best baseball is ahead of them and you know for some of those guys they don't view two thousand nineteen is a reflection of you know what they can still do in the game so there's no shortage of motivation and I came in there is that the E. here this coming out of their little little background the hallways in cubicles we're gonna be better than you think we're gonna be better than you think but again it's a great place to be when people think you're gonna suck your increase because all you gotta do is B. okay like us yeah that was it like our show every day so anyway just a couple of dozens of farms ID there for you on the big picture star apple and expectations but the stock two guys down there for some kind of archive so Duane Kuiper okay K. B. R. one of four five and six eighty these ports that you listen to Murph and mac.

"Slider for the swinging strike three so Rogers sixty strikeouts and now Nick is generally it comes on as a pinch hitter for Vogelbach runner at first two down here the seven giants ahead sixty three but we ascertain the his brothers are much harder throwers big strikeout guy a closer in the big leagues where we're is Tyler Rogers as he said in the interview ten days ago with us the he's just here with the mindset of trying to make this team well the jets were very impressed with what they saw of him late last year in the big leagues now the page and the rising slider on the inside of that hits him right around the just beneath the right shoulder and then ricocheted off the plate umpire ouch soon that government a good one and the catcher Tyler Heineman is asking if and that's okay and that seems to be catchers and played a part as a sort of a fellow travelers they get beat up in the course of the game so now with two down here comes Collin Cowgill Calvillo came in to play left field in the previous happening and this is his first trip to the plate two men on two may not have been a hit batsman and now earlier there was a a walk and there's a called strike with the slider to calculus calculus a lot of exposure in the big leagues with several different teams slight of build right handed hitter two men on two men out sixty three the giants lead here in the seventh Rogers a little bit of a jam the right hander sats dips down and delivers a high slider popped up foul third base side over goes Hainanese called off by.

"Try this league baseball KNBR one oh four five eight six eighty well the full changes for the giants I try to catch up with them as we move along but we do know that the the new picture is Rico Carcillo giants are leading here in the fifth inning after five years of six five score of sixty one Thomas I believe Christian Adonis is now the third that's correct the new catcher is Tyler Heineman so buster Posey is out of the game Heineman the new right fielder news Joe McCarthy and we do have a new second baseman I'll try to figure that one out as we move along is here's Garcia throwing to coddle Lewis who's over one with a walk in the pitch low one ball no strikes rough is still in left Davis is still in center and we know McCarthyism right here's the pitch we're gonna fall off the backstop it's one ball and one strike one run on three hits for Seattle six runs on eight hits for the giants in the picture it is and it's low trying to get Louis to to chase a pitchman maybe was a change of its two balls and one strike you're still the right hander holes and throws in there's a strike on the outside corner to to know that's an easy ninety six he's got really good velocity chance still have multiple decisions to make about the open two balls two strikes in the pitch download three two they have to make a decision.

"Five eight I'm anxiously awaiting seen Michael Marty you had fun yesterday I did I did we sat down the giants brand new complex with Willie Mays it was my first time I know you do it all the time but it was my first time to sit and chat with Willie Mays were down there for twenty minutes a half hour just sharing stories and just incredible to sit there in the presence of greatness and and Willie is such a tremendous storyteller you know that's what that's why Willie Mays is so amazing to me because he played far before I was born he played with generations that were ahead of me but he can still bring the stories to life for me and he can make that connection and that's what baseball is all about so it was just a really special moment to sit there with Willie and kind of soak it in thank you for it's about your handshake yeah he did S. is is MO usually gets on the hand shake for a city would you hand was called yeah he said my head was called and I said well it's because I've been hanging out in the clubhouse visible well I have to so why do we have warm and cold hands out they started with you on that then then John Shea was there about it the audio book yeah and then you were gonna do Willie's voice in the audio book that's Willie thought exactly make Williams right well you were being hired to do something exciting I know you're negotiating yeah well the maze yeah five thousand he said too much yeah I said twenty four hundred give muscle deal for that number so yeah yeah it was fun it was really fun it was really fun to sit there with Willie yeah he is a treasure may sixth will be eighty nine years old and the and as I said with John about the book twenty four that's coming out he's a very special guy and he still has it he does he doesn't want a labor of love from John the book as you mentioned the last segment really incredible just it's going to be so cool for different generations to share the stories of Willie Mays just like we were able to do yesterday his certificate Hey last night I thought it was maybe the best game of the spring so much happened last night absolutely I thought it was the best game of the spring Joey Barton Elliott Rameau's the same starting line up this was the giants future the giants fans have been waiting to see it for so long three losing seasons they're wondering whether things can get better he thought last night Joey bart is a player as the great Marty Larry says he can Hicks Rameau slid about Posey well you don't quote me on this originally coded but I don't think I'm going to quote you on that one just yet find a spot for let it slip away yeah Alania and Rameau's too how about the throw the rhombus make from right field yeah really impressive yeah I think he was challenging Garrett Hansen last name has to be a gear head to one of the fastest players in in all of baseball and we saw him in in Glendale the other day plate the plate the white Sox ended up winning on a walk off but Rameau's really didn't have much of a shot and threw a one hopper from center field to Tyler Heineman the catcher and that's where you said wow he really does have the potential to be a five tool player what do you think about quite a lesson it was typical Johnny Cueto you know he in spring training he uses these opportunities as tune ups he does not treat spring training like a Tyler Beatty or Logan Webb would treat spring training where they're going out they have to go all out to win a job in the rotation Johnny Cueto treats it like he's getting ready for the regular season like pictures used to do so we saw the Chevys and we saw the quick pitch against rival Tapia we saw the fastball velocity a little lower than you expected we heard quite a say I can reach back and get a little bit more in the change of wasn't quite polished yet but I do expect when the regular season comes around he's a veteran thirteen here I do expect that pitch to be informed how cool is it for hunter bishop and his brother to be in the same game my goodness Marty Thursday out in Peoria was I would say a top five day in the past four years that I cover the giants just for me that story hunter bishop for for people who don't know Serra high school San Matteo Arizona state so the exact same schools the very bonds went to drafted tenth overall by the giants last year he and his brother have gone through so much they lost their mother Susie after a five year battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease in October and they are really special players you know you see major league veterans when they establish themselves they come up and they get their foundations and they choose a charitable cause to donate to her bishop Braden bishop his older brother in the mariners organization created their foundation for mom foundation when and Braden was in college university of Washington and hunter was still in high school and they pour their heart and soul into that foundation to honor their mother Susie and it's an incredible family and incredible mission close to my heart I lost my grandfather Alzheimer's disease so that to me you can't think about their story and and not get choked up because it really is that special and they put him in the same game they did it was cool same position as the older five years apart in age they were never able to do that growing up and they play the same game call the giants that a good thing yeah Roby off Roby he can whack the ball Sean Roby Arizona western twelfth round draft pick Joey bart told me last spring I don't understand how all these teams missed on this guy you can hit and he's a player and we're going to eventually see him in the major league level I do believe that I know we struggle in the Sally league last year he's a ways away from the major leagues but this is the third base prospect who can make it I really do believe that it looks like a third baseman to yeah he does he's got the whole profile big filled out body and and he's a slugger Marty Jersey smiley today yeah interest Miley yeah you know the giants believe it's a bounce back season perjury smiley they believe it's a bounce back season Kevin Gosselin and that's why we look good the first outing so so I'm intrigued to see more women BT good Thursday yeah web web was good the PD was exceptional ninety eight on the radar gun the curve ball was really sharp and a changeup was Polish I think he is this fifth starter this year well great Kerry thank you thank you Marty for the folks that folks here at home listening it of course all right artillery sees affects native Nancy and Crowley how are you the last always have you there all right have a good afternoon thanks for coming in thank you Marty by those Kerry Crowley alright giants baseball is coming up next John and Sean of got it today I'll be back the our post game show bill last you'll join us the giants baseball coming up this will be a good one today the weather's gorgeous enjoy it talk to you then everybody so.

"Is Stransky all eyes on Mike is just not for a roster spot we know he's going to get one but don't you all have the same question with the hours this year so Hey dude are you gonna do that again are you gonna do that over a full season was that an accident you know this guy was in the minor leagues for a long time M. man got blocked and finally got a chance and all the sudden they put up a really good here together this guy was essentially the giants home run leader then join the team until a month or two in so are you gonna do it again and box stores in spring training don't mean much however I will say so far so good for the whole spring free as he looks good went one for three drove in a run today his spring average very very small number so far this spring averages five hundred and as the leading off usually when he's out there Adam in center field today as well that's interesting where people are in the outfield corner spots who's gonna be in Sattar feels like they've got four five guys who can grab a glove and go out there and play center field so stock up for Mike your Stransky stock down going down Rico Garcia you're thinking wait a minute who's Rico Garcia and I'm thinking the exact same thing I don't know but I recall Garcia is one of the pictures for the giants who went out there today and he did not pitch well he threw one third of an inning gave up two hits three earned runs and is now coming in with an early spring ERA of twenty point two five so stock down on it Rico Garcia stock up rob Brantly I'm starting to hear good things about this guy who is in the running for backup catcher behind buster Posey Tyler Heineman is another name the real outside shot of course Star course would be this guy named Joey bart I don't know if you heard him I don't think they wanted to start the year in the big leagues so it's probably going to be one of these other two guys there is also door number four which could be someone who's not with the giants right now and I think it's likely that they bring in more options but so far so good for Brantley who Hey I heard as a pretty big personality ready big clubhouse presence for rob Brantly and I always think that plays well from a catcher who is a team leader of sorts and also hit the game winning hit today in the ninth inning drove in a run of a four four tie in the ninth inning so Bradley went one for three and is it in two eighty six so far this spring stock down going down Austin Slater Slater is in a tough spot he can play a lot of different positions but the giants have already had one extended look at him last year and while I think they very much want him to be on the roster this year they they have so many guys who can kind of do what he does back up first base play right field I'm right handed pop we just described Wilmer Flores we know he's going to be on the team Slater today over three early spring average one forty three stock up Tyler BT this is exactly what you wanted to see from the kid who was going for and trying to get at the fifth rotation spot this year two innings shutout innings two strikeouts perfect start to Tyler BT's spring stock down Yolmer.

"Welcome back we invest yeah absolutely different now here right now it's it's fun to be playing games and you know getting no our players and see the competition start to pick up it's been a fun first couple games for the thrill of the grass is real now that we with the great Marty lorries here listening instead of to Marty and you were just talking to him before he came back and he was talking about Sean jelly and I heard you say to him I was eavesdropping you said we had a number of nice highlights and I thought well great I'm gonna ask for on on the air tell us about the nice highlights yeah yeah I think for for you know the first game after we got out of that first inning you know kick the ball around a little bit maybe got some nerves out of the way to see Joey bart go up we'll hit a Homer his first at bat the bond pulling the Homer in that game you know for those two guys to go deep the first game that was fun to see we've had some nice pitching performances I mean our bullpen is gonna be pretty wide open there's you know handful spots that are that are open for competition we've had some guys really impressed I thought me and Matt Kerr CD Rico Garcia both really you were impressive a couple days ago and then we had some good relief performances yesterday as well you know for her we had a deep on up here earlier today he was our first guest actually and he talked a lot about his versatility how he's able and willing to play a variety of positions on the field and just talk about that concept a little bit versatility how important is that to you not only in his case but with your other players to have you know that kind of versatility where if you think because of a match up or what have you want to move a guy from you know second to center you know you wouldn't hesitate to do that just talk about versatility absolutely and and what you love about Mauricio is even even as he sauce bringing in a couple guys that may get playing time at second base for us Wilmer Flores and Yolmer Sanchez he's really embraced that possibility of moving around he obviously played shortstop the first day hopefully we get him out there in center field pretty soon it was funny we had and we have these player planned meetings with all the guys in spring training you know bring him into the office myself Scott here is Gabe Kapler usually one or two coaches so we did Mauricio as the day after that first game I guess it was yesterday yeah and you know the first thing we said Hey you know we're talking about after giving actually we think we're gonna have to move the office shortstop at so he's doing that and each other he yeah he chuckled I mean he's a he's a complicated obviously we saw him you know do some nice things at shortstop last year and you know with it he knows that the more spots he can play the more options he's gonna give gave them the staff and and the more at bats he's going to get so he's fully embraced that well that's a guy you went out and got just like a guy like Jaylen Davis you went out and got them in maybe talk to the fans a little bit about when you when you got those guys are those guys twenty five man guys were just for a dreamers these are guys you want to be part of the next wave of giants regulars absolutely and and that's something that we've had to be mindful of this off season to make sure that those guys are just backed up in triple a and not getting the option to come up here and show what they can do so you know guy like Mauricio gotten extended opportunity last year and and that was great to see and you know one of my I think one of our regrets of the last month two months last season was we didn't get Jaylen you know more at bats because that would kind of give them a better springboard going into this year but you you looked at our outfield picture Steven Duggar coming off the injury has looked really good Jaylin Austin Slater it's gonna be a fun competition to see who can step up and you know maybe when the last outfield job that we really have up for grabs and in that mix is hunter pence that's right who's not part of the future but he's you saw value for him into because it seems like so much of your lesion of talent is about down the road not about right now yeah and hunter pence is a right now guy he's not a twenty twenty four guys real question so tell me yeah I mean we're we're we're trying to be competitive in twenty twenty and we think we have some interesting pieces hunter coming off the year he had last year we talked about at fanfest really mash left handed pitching really hit lefties and righties well last year and to have him in that outfield mix to have him be able to play left field and spell Dickerson who we want to make sure we don't kind of over use and you know both of those guys I think we'll mix in it at both corners and it's just you know another option for us to have an forgive to be able to mix and match is lined up a little bit all right farms ID the head of baseball operations here with us we had your faith as we have to whatever's Garcia and it turns out that as we spoke there was news about his hip surgery which I think you were you hiding from find out rated that let's find out like zone where we kind of happening when I came to work Monday we as far as like maybe it was me he didn't like my shirt there was a lot of Jackson will run back that tape and whatever my tone was that's when you know I'm hiding something okay good okay that's good that we're going to hear that but anyway the point is now so he's not here yeah that's out and now the guys you have back in a buster this is an important job as we mentioned it favours disease no gonna catch you know Max a hundred and ten games maybe maybe less than that and the guys you have in your art ugh we can quite frankly said unproven right why do I think that there's something out there that you're still open to more acquisitions yeah and you know the two guys who I think are at the forefront of that competition right now Tyler Heineman who is one of the first guys we signed as a minor league free agent this offseason switch hitter had a terrific year in triple a last year contact bat and is done some nice things defensively so far rob Brantly who gave had in Philly last year had a really nice season again you know a guy who will make contact with the ball in play and you know that backup catcher role if you're playing once or twice a week having a guy who can give you a quality at bat yeah really important that both those guys can do that so they both have legitimate shots but we've also told those guys Hey we may go out and get somebody else either somebody else was in the competition or maybe even jumps to the front lines so those guys are aware that and we'll keep an eye on it I mean we want that position to your point it's an important position on this team as we saw last year with Stephen Boden you know we'll keep looking for you know the best possible option I think things can happen I mean I in his giants history Benito Santiago was signed way late into spring training and wound up being a huge part of the O. two team ICO's and then last year you and got Kevin Lauren with the day to write so yeah I think yeah we're a few days into the season so yeah that that can happen but again I I don't want to diminish the chances that these two in house guys have to win that job but you know again not necessarily the most proven options at the big league level but we like what we've seen so far and again that coming off the Tripoli seasons they have last year there's reason to believe that they can be productive so so many guys asking about so little time Brandon belt is a guy who and I know you've talked about this with the media this week as gate came out and said some nice words about him it's funny we've had this ten year relationship with them as a fan base you know there's that tantalizing potential and some great moments and then some frustration and other things and I get the sense you've always been a belt guy is that accurate yeah I mean I I think one of the first things I spoke about when you know I came over here was talking about how in LA when we were game planning for the giants line up he was one of the toughest guys to game plan against because he's so disciplined staying in the zone and when you're on the opera posing side you know if you see a real weakness for a hitter or or something that you know he's gonna chase it's easy to exploit that when you don't see that when you see a guy who's really disciplines it's hard a platform but I don't know if you saw the story but he wound up smashing my windshield yeah and it's funny as long as that was half we were we were sitting down you know behind the plate and somebody was joking like let's set the over under a number of times belt even swings in this live V. P. and editorial sprit seeing a lot of pitches early on in camp and so yeah you know that when I saw him I was like why do you swing like I all I hear is a discipline where where was your just give us a point of reference where is the car parked there it was it you know it in the in the lot of our moment album okay it was easy I mean think about how aggressive lender yeah yeah right that is a wicked hook yeah really relative in a better story was a tater over the batter's eye you're parked out there exactly but like I said I think it for him to swing at all was it was a real upset in his first live BP but tonight I mean I mean I know fan frustration doesn't plan to how you guys analyze but he has frustrated fans because he he has never hit the twenty Homer mark yeah I mean it's not easy to hit home runs in the big leagues I understand hit eighteen last year but the do you guys see him as a guy I mean I want you to publicly say he needs to hit X. number of homers yeah but it would be nice if the bed that twenty five thirty Homer season I think so and let's see how the new ballpark dimension okay work all right I mean you know he's I think somebody was telling me that he hit you know as many balls like five feet short of the fence as anyone in baseball last year it certainly felt like and I know.

"May we may see a few games over here on the major league side and here is a rob Brantly now up for his first at bat beat came on for Tyler Heineman Brantley has big league experience that is been around for a while yeah he played with the Phillies last year and had a really nice your triple a so Gabe Kapler had him in camp and got to know him a little bit and yeah that was a big motivating factor for rob signing with us not just the fact that we're gonna have a opportunity the backup catcher role is you know one of the several competitions we haven't camp but his familiarity with Gabe I think given that a comfort level signed with us and it manages they like to have left handed hitting catchers don't they they do I mean you know obviously work great for us with the Steven vote last year it gives you some different options with the you know right handed hitting frontline catcher like we haven't buster so that configuration of the roster worked really well and you know that that gives rob a little bit of a leg up in that competition Bradley takes low and outside football two balls at a strike runner at second nobody out we're in a three three tie here in the sixth inning the giants and the athletics Brantley getting his first at bat of the game lefty versus lefty the pitch swing hits a high drive into deep right center going back is forever the right fielder all the way back to the wall makes the catch tagging up and going over the third base is dire that is right in the spot where this ball park opens up a little bit the the the right field wall Kerr's out toward right center field and suddenly gets deeper and that worked against rob Brantly it did not seem like a routine fly out off the bat but yeah unfortunately that's the big part of the yard out there was.

"Six one four five the sports leader all right great to have you back with us I have a lot of fun that's what baseball is it's entertaining I'm glad that we could be here and Mason get ready for the ETS and the giants Kerry Crowley joins us the bay area news group how are you excellent today Marty how are you very good them enjoying it after yesterday it was a long day for me yes the far too long far too long of a day the two and a half hour rain delay you know my thoughts on it I was very strong with my commentary yesterday shouldn't have happened yeah yeah it was a long day we I put in about fourteen hours the of course back out here early today but that's it that we love doing this we deal story baseball but I watch the team walk across so when they showed up today to people just stood out among seven body city thing well no matter how many players the giants put in the dugout no matter how many players walk across the field one that always stands out Sean jelly that's one six foot eleven E. clear can't wait to see him pitch today I already decided that I'm actually gonna walk out of the press box and go down behind home plate and sit there to watch jelly up close and personal because I haven't done that before I haven't seen the ball come out of his hand I haven't see I bolted from jelly so I'm really excited as for the second player who stood out I have no clue maybe over Sanchez because he walked alone no he would have brought his gold glove with he thought yeah I mean that but Wilmer Flores Wilmer Flores yeah you see all these yeah look I mean look at here now I don't maybe he's got his hat on now so you can't see but you see this whole crowd of sixty people walk him and the one guys fully blind so Michelle those are the two and Wilmer Flores over Florida's does stand out debut in the first place today yeah we're going to see a lot of him yeah you know the one thing that I sort of took from yesterday and for whatever it's worth and believe it's the first spring training game there's two hundred more games you know that there's a whole story ahead of us but you know that you look at that line up and they they don't really do any damage now and it's some point you want to win games and it is that is that we're here for a goal of winning games at some point I just feel that we're gonna see a lot of people playing different positions here yeah we are we're gonna see a lot of people moving around we're gonna see them try to generate more offense with the put to light up but I think it comes down to when they put their line up on the field a hundred and sixty two games of the season do they have enough to scare the other team do they have enough to win a six five ball games do they have enough to win a seven four game and to me the way this team is currently constructed of course we don't know the twenty six opening day roster players they don't they probably need a little bit more but that wasn't the the objective of Farhan Zaidi this offseason Scott here's the new general manager they're looking to kind of improve the margins of the roster while they wait for some these veterans contracts to run out so they need Jaylen Davis to break out they need my keystrokes could have another strong season and so many other players have to play well for this team to even come close to five hundred I thought about Joey bart and you know I get on these crusades it also it again second pick in the country yeah this is this is a huge college player and I realize Posey and barter here but this is a team that's it is mark Simon says needs a lot of good things to happen to get over the hump you've got the playing room in though you're playing with house money so to speak this year yeah can't this guy get in which some had a tremendous home run yesterday incident is it crazy for me to think this city can break with the team I think it's crazy to think he'll bring okay same idea but I'm much more optimistic about Joey Barton hearing late may early June that area then so the other beat writers when when we talk in our discussions we go through this so much we calculate the roster together we look at the entry of the out field the catching depth when it's so it's so gonna come up and play but I seem to be higher on Joey Barton just about everyone else I I think they've got to get him up there's got to be a reason come June or July that fans want to come out to oracle park and watch this team and that goes back to our original point they don't have enough offense that's what Joey bart provides you saw the swing yesterday Marty so smooth the opposite field power is legit and you just want to see if he has majorly Patrick yeah I think so we we saw some relievers yesterday who opened the eyes and I think you mentioned a couple of them in the what you wrote after the game you want to share that with us yeah I thought the back here CD was a standout thirty games in major league experience I believe nineteen with the Rockies eleven with the mariners is never really broken through at the major league level but the fastball was spotted at the knees ninety three ninety four and the sweater was really good it was getting ugly swings and his reliever you only need to purchase to be effective for three batters at a time that's what they're looking for and so he really stood out three strikeouts in his inning Rico Garcia was the other guy electric stuff ninety six on the radar gun Marty you look at him and he wonders he one of the new coaches is see you know helping out run him but you brought them exactly but he's athletic he he moves well on the mound and the stuff was legit yesterday I didn't get to see all of his pitches but ninety six inside corner works it works against the Dodgers two strikeouts for him Rodriguez yes say bad defenses offers red is the fence that Jaylen Davis just missed play that it was at a function of the weather because the ball to me looks like it's good on the ball skidded autumn but it was a mess but he was squared up over the ball he went down on his knee and the ball went right under his legs if you're squared up like that I think it's a mistake regardless of where where you are the author of how wet it is in the outfield I I think that that was right to be called in their ads with the other two Donovan Solano with a line drive off his glove in the Marie C. H. bond unable to move to his right make a tough play the infield what do you think your rod Regus I like their velocity uptick yesterday from Rodriguez I know that he was struggling the first two batters with his command but he blew ninety three passed Cody Ballenger and I think he's got a little bit of deception with his motion something that he does with his front armor Kerr glove that seems to throw hitters off so if you could bring that philosophy up to miles an hour this year to almost to where it was in the twenty eighteen season he really dropped off last year with a fastball standpoint and so encouraging side for him a long way to go to be a major league starter consistently I think especially with the way the giants view their current staff but can he be a two inning guy out of the bullpen probably will have options and I don't think he's in jeopardy of being D. F. A. or or you know banishes triple a for the entire season I think that they really want to give him one more strong solid chance such as purchase kit yeah you can I know how you feel about the lady that she gave up on him actually give give Derek Rodriguez an extension now second look here okay all right Keyon Huang is going to be in the game what do you know about him Hawaii native Hilo Hawaii at plays all over the infield second third base left handed bat and what what you'd of course want to mention is the lineage Marty's for someone like you who cares about these things so much his brother Colton has been the infielder for the cardinals for so long now and so of course if one if one brother is a successful major league player doesn't make sense that the other would be a successful major league player he can hit the Marty Leri declaration there is version of his bring folks you can head to head I don't know where I'll play but I'm telling you can swing the bat he's got options too so he's kind of that flexible depth yeah if they keep your percentages on the opening day roster it doesn't work out then they can bring up Kiev Wong okay Kerry Crowley with us Jamie Westbrook I don't know much about Jimi Westbrook and your guys here from Arizona he is a Basha high product Chandler Arizona and so do a little bit about him he spent time in the d'backs organization I believe most recently was a trip last summer last year when I went to go see a rehab start I think it was Johnny Cueto who who made a rehab start for Sacramento when he was coming back from Tommy John Westbrook was in that light up and I don't think he's cracked the big leagues yet but the the giants are giving him the DH opportunity a day after they gave it to Darren rough so some of these journeymen minor leaguers a rough was over in Korea getting some summer early looks by Gabe Kapler well you can run Kerry he can run okay well rookie can run and he's the T. H. that's great right taking full advantage of his speed in the field I think it's on it maybe we'll see him do something Joe McCarthy yeah Joe McCarthy have you ever spoken to Joe McCarthy well before my time anyone ever it also employed okay yeah it's control delay that I'm here today the senator from Wisconsin house in American affairs committee Joe McCarthy the giants have won yeah he's hitting fourth have you ever spoken to him I have not yeah and he's been in the organization came over it July thirtieth yes year Tampa Bay rays here in the in the clubhouse in spring training but he's almost like a ghost well starting today we're gonna talk a lot to Joe McCarthy because he's someone who's in this mix that will see its left hand the reason they acquire Joe McCarthy was because he was gonna be a part of that great forty man roster crunch that the Tampa Bay rays have last year and so the rays viewed him as expendable had injuries in his minor league career but you know coming out of Virginia he was a highly touted prospect he was a highly touted outfielder so the giants think that he really never have that opportunity at the major league level maybe they can be the team that gives it to him good left handed power when he does stay healthy so I am intrigued to see Joe McCarthy swing the bat because the numbers last year the PCL at the end of the season works so great that they jumped off the page but can he play a role foreign seems to believe he's here he's sitting fourth today yeah that's an indication of mine yeah what about Tyler Heineman the magician yep Tyler Heineman the magician I watching I want to see if the power that we've seen in batting practice is legitimate and can translate to the games because the sample size the major league level is so small I think it's eleven at bats homered off of decorum and then he doubled off of Syndergaard so if he's able to do that maybe the jets have something he's a magician he's got things in the clubhouse and if you can make a few people disappear you have to do that is unfair to Tyler all right well it Brantley is pushing a little yet right yeah we'll see Brantley today to let any other catcher I think he's on the reserve list decided it was here I saw him walking out of the field and the other guy I want to see is Dickerson yeah you know C. M. healthy and see him swing the bat with some authority that live batting practices this week from Alex Dickerson terms of the plate discipline he got jail but he was able to go the other way with the ball earlier this week they knew he was joking how he beat the shaft even though there were no players on the field but he just punches the ball and when he makes contact it's solid you notice it puts on a tremendous batting practice when the coaches are throwing to him and can he stay healthy that's of course the question is going to dominate his entire career not just this season not just in the past but into the future as well and you swore as would be expected him today I don't know I would like to see something different from Anders forest well what do you think he's got to work on fastball command okay that's for command was spotty he's throughout his career gotten by high school college minor leagues on being good at throwing a ninety four mile an hour fastball from the left side that kind of being enough but can he place it can there be pinpoint location that's the next step for him I just I just want to see something different whether it's the.

"Good morning everybody to cactus league action today it is game two as the giants are here in mesa Arizona close to where I live and then they take on the Oakland Athletics today and this is game two of of the cactus weak a little different day than yesterday first one coming on at the right time my goodness yesterday at two and a half hour rain delay and then we had the game the post game and everything else so I appreciate everyone hanging in there the whole day at RAF did a great job if you missed any of the interviews from yesterday any of the things that the podcast that they put up on K. B. R. dot com with Larry Baer and we show a minute Kerry Crowley Bruce Jenkins at cetera there on that page there and also love the game productions dot com so it's a new day today and the giants see here in mesa to take on the Oakland athletics for the giants say Andrew Suarez is gonna be pitching followed by a host of others which I hope will include six foot eleven it shone jelly and then he's close to him I'm he's I can't say is close to major league ready now but there is potential there where he can be a major league pitcher it'll be fun to see him for the first time for me to see him live and I hope some people get on base and see how we can pitch out of the stretch but he's supposed to be working today but edges swaras is a starter for the giants today the line up very quickly for you is just strips the floor as Dickerson Joe McCarthy left handed hitter the giants got at the trade deadline last year from Tampa Bay Tyler Heineman is switch hitter and he's vying for that backup catcher job and got some majorly time with the Marlins last year but he is a magician and it may be his biggest trick will be making the other backup catchers disappear this is a fight for that backup catcher job nice kit really a switch hitter and he is so was it I think a walk on at UCLA that turned out to be an outstanding college catcher Yolmer Sanchez at second base where the SCM is a gold Glover my first time to see him Avellino said short Jamie Westbrook who grew up right down the street here in Gilbert and Basha high school zona giants signed them a speed guy he's at the H. and Colton Wong's older brother called one of the cardinals Keyon Huang left handed hitter he can hit in the minor leagues I'm not sure where he can play but the back may play S. sometime during the year in the major leagues so he is at third base today all right Farhan Zaidi the president of the giants of baseball operations joins us and I thought to be a good time to just sit down with him and for him it's nice really to just talk ball with you and it's really nice to have you with us thanks for.
