Climate Change Presents Challenges for Watershed Managers

"I'm standing here with tiffany shuffler. She's the project and land manager for the mini ha ha creek watershed district. Hi tiffany paul. Thanks for having me. So tell us where we're standing today. We are standing at what we call the divide of our upper watershed in lower watershed. So were standing at the on. Top of the grays bay dam which is where lake minnetonka ends to the east and then we are at the headwaters of miniature creek so given climate change in minnesota and in your watershed which basically includes a lot of the western and southwestern twin cities what new challenges does climate change present for watershed management. Here you know as water managers were tasked with trying to Reduce flooding and reduce pollution. And that's what you're tasked with what you're giving is how much rainfall from the sky. And also you're given a landscape that developed over a century ago so a lot of these homes were developed during the dust bowl when it was the dryness of times. And now we're coming out of the wettest of times so now there's this conflict with you know homes infrastructure of Whether it's surface water groundwater flooding happening and people you know being like. I understand climate change but my basements flooding or my front yard flooding. Who's going to do something about it. What kind of extreme lake and creek flow levels have you observed in the past decade or two on the lake and the creek. You know two thousand thirteen two thousand nineteen where the wettest seven years on record so wet in fact that we had an extra year's worth of rain squeezed in there but then there's also been these drastic swings to dry and we've had them very close together so for example twenty twelve was really dry year. Last time we in in real drought and then twenty fourteen. Just two years later. We had record flooding.

Facebook Accused of Knowingly Ignoring Risk to Teen Girls From Instagram

"A wall street journal is out with a story about instagram pointing to research that it causes real harm to some teenage girls. Now it's not just the wall street journal pointing this at what the wall street journal is pointing out. Is that dave received internal slides like basically a slide show powerpoint presentation presented to facebook and instagram. Back in twenty nineteen two years ago saying things like thirty two percent of teen girls say that they feel bad about their bodies. Instagram made him feel worse. Of course also in two thousand nineteen teenagers blame instagram for increases in the rate of anxiety and depression. Here's what's why the stories relevant. Because in march of this year so two years later mark zuckerberg the congress says while the research we've seen. Is that using these apps. Connect with other people can have a positive mental health benefit. Maybe the key words there are can have sure yeah. That's very carefully crafted but still it sure is kind of misleading

Wet Notes - 9-13-21

"This is wet notes here on scuba shock radio from monday september thirteenth. Two thousand twenty one first up today is in another idea for diving with a purpose in one of the most recent newsletters from the coral restoration foundation the coral chronicles. There was a report that cr f. is teaming up with the atlantis. Dive resort in douma getty to offer a unique opportunity to participate in a week long program at the result in helping them build and maintain the largest coral nursery endowing. Actually the town where. Atlantis is located. The program is being sponsored by the coral restoration foundation. The loveland living planet aquarium and the meat foundation. The program runs from september twenty fourth to october. First two thousand twenty two there are planned educational sessions on coral ecology along with restoration efforts and techniques. You also conduct restoration. Dives along with some fun dies. This sounds really fascinating. One of the pictures into newsletter showed the table coral at apo island. I vividly remember that area when we dove air in two thousand nineteen there wasn't any pricing available in the article and you'll have to contact the hotel directly if you have the time and desire to dive with a purpose check out this program and market on your calendar. Long time ago. Donna and i lived in hawaii that was in the mid nineteen eighties. At that time we got to experience. What was probably one of the first while in walls in honolulu. If you're not familiar with wilem walls you can check them out. The wall was a large mural of the humpback whale on the side of a building near waikiki. It was quite impressive. Well it might not be a while and wall but if you happen to be near brant rock in mansfield massachusetts you can catch a the view of a mural of a large shark painted on the side of an old restaurant according to wicked local dot com. The mural was painted by a local artist. Shane leonard. Shane was a former football player at boston college. Who has a passion for painting and a passion for sharks. Now the muros on the side of the former arthur and patch restaurant that closed back in two thousand fifteen. The shark faces divers as they head down ocean street which is a one way street. So you can't miss it say. Shane says he likes the way shark. Show emotion. the photo is pretty impressive. there's no guarantee that the building won't be torn down. Now that is unoccupied but according to shane. Even if it doesn't survive it was worth doing so if you happen to be near mansfield mass check out the shark mural on ocean street about a month ago. Patio wear foundation announced their fourth annual aware week. Now this year it will run from september. Eighteenth through september twenty six two thousand and twenty one the whole idea behind aware week is to empower the global dive community to lead or take part in conservation activities in courses focused on local action for global impact in the past aware has focused on two elements marine debris and vulnerable marine species this year in concert with patties blueprint for ocean action. They're adding three more components. Climate change marine protected areas and coral reefs. Some of the ways. That dive shops can participate or by conducting aware classes like dive against debris coral conservation or the aware specialty. Also like us. You can become a one hundred percent aware dive centre where you provide a monthly contribution in support of the patty certifications you award. We are very proud to be one hundred percent aware. But here's something that. Patty aware foundation needs to work on. We need more notice as to win. Aware week is happening. I wasn't sure what was happening this year and our calendar filled up and we weren't able to get things scheduled as i mentioned at the top of the show. We've already created are twenty twenty two calendar and it would be nice to know when aware week twenty twenty two is happening. I also mentioned at the top to show that the re photo contest results were in and that i didn't win while scuba diving magazine. Magazine's two thousand and twenty one through the lens contest is also complete. The winners were recently released at scuba diving. Dot com and the photos will be revealed in september october special photo issue. They received one thousand seven hundred and nineteen photos from around the world. The contest categories included behavior compact camera macro and wide angle. The entries were judged on beauty originality and unique encounters. I check them out and they are spectacular. I only wish. I had the talent impatience to do that kind of work. Now if you wanna get a jump onto twenty twenty two contests they will start accepting entries january third two thousand twenty two and you can submit your photos through may thirty first two thousand and twenty two and finally we recently received our two thousand twenty two aqualung buyer's guide along with information on all the new products coming down from aqualung apex. So i thought. I'd give you a little preview on what's on the horizon. I from aqualung. They are releasing a new regulator the helix pro and the helix it looks like the helix pro is a mid range regular and i think it's replacing their core. It is a balanced first and second stage in his environmentally sealed with four low pressure ports and two high pressure ports. It was built for cold water and has the automatic closure device or a cd. lower end. helix is not environmentally sealed. And it doesn't have a cd and it's designed for warmer water. Also coming out in two thousand and twenty two is their new. Aqua fluck aqua flex men and aqua flex woman wetsuits. I think it's a redesign of their tried and true. Aqua flex line they also have a two millimeter. Free flex wetsuit now. The i one hundred computers going to come in a new color yellow and speaking of colors. They've added a number of different colors to various products including something called sand petrol red and orange as for eight packs. They also have a new regulator the xl four osha and it is billed as a totally sustainable regulator bay from post consumer waste it comes in grey or mint with some great etching. On the first stage. I suspect it's just like the xl four plus being an overbalanced diaphragm regulator with two hp and four l. p. ports. It looks pretty. Sharp and apex is releasing a new dive computer to the sx. It will be program can program up to six gases and monitor six transmitters. The has a titanium basil making it lightweight endurable but also has a color display. There's something more that require. Some more research It says it has in oh to analyze or onboard. But no to sell gotta check that out a little bit. There's a lot more out there and over time. I'll give you more updates from both aqualung and apex. Well that wraps up wet notes. Here on scuba shock. Radio for monday september thirteenth. Two thousand twenty one

What Makes a Rookie of the Year?

"I did some research looking into what really makes a rookie of the year and really three things really came stood out to me. One is opportunity right. You have to actually have minutes significant minutes in a significant role on your team. And if you look over the last couple of years for the rookie of the year race you're going to see that at twenty seven minutes a game seems to be the the threshold that we're looking at for players right now. Two thousand nineteen. It was twenty seven. Point eight doesn't eighteen was thirty minutes a game. And so the first thing that we're we're scouring is is this player going to get significant like starter minutes and a great role on their teams very difficult to crack rookie of the year. No matter how talented you are without those minutes the second key metric is really points per game so in two thousand eighteen. The top three scored. I think sixteen point three points per game two dozen nineteen top three vote-getters for rookie of the year had fifteen point. Three points a game. Twenty twenty was only thirteen points. A game But that was in part because thirty points a game was the third highest gray mark for any rookie about season. And so if you look at the past eight years the winner is was in the top three and usually the top two and scorn for rookies of the year. So not only. Is it going to be minutes but the opportunity to actually score the basketball and does the player have the ability to be a big time scored sort of the next thing that we're gonna look at at it also found that If you go back and sort of look at some of the work that kevin pelton is done at espn Fr- almost every season. The combined averages of points rebounds assists per game when you add those averages together. That's the player that's going to win the ward and then finally You know look when you're looking at rookie of the year. You're not actually talking about the player. That's gonna be the best player in five years if you go back and look at past winters. That's often just not the case. It's it's the player that's can have the most opportunity. I'm to really hit those metrics of scoring Minutes per game and then the sort of combined stats together. That's going to win work the year. And so that's going to change to me. The draft order a little bit about who we're going to handicap again for rookie of the

"Jack thank you for joining the bonds today. Welcome it is truly great to have you here on the show. it's great. What is the story behind your third studio album propaganda man that was released in july of two thousand nineteen. I was a little. And i'm deliberately not exaggerating too much but i was starting to get concerned about The level of propaganda. That's going around the world today And so i started to write like a kind of related series of songs about the propaganda and the people that exploited the people that are exploited by And you know six months later. I had songs for an album. So they put out the album propaganda man With the help of sometimes collaborator gary tanin. Who assisted me with mixing and mastering the album. The Year of Uncontrollable Circumstances in Ecommerce

"I don't know how differently. I would paint this than any other year because every year there seems to be something that comes up like two thousand nineteen it was. Trump's terrorists last year was cove. Ed this year all the shipping rates so. Yeah i don't know if i'd put it in my top three. Bummer years i think everyone compartmentalize things mentally a little bit differently so for me those other things you were talking about being younger not knowing as much what's going on dealing with cash flow. Those are fun challenges for me. I look forward to. I know that sounds crazy. But like i don't know i feel like a lot of that's in my control. You know things that i can. I can dictate in a move the needle one way or the other. I improve by by learning more working harder. And i just. I love the buzz of entrepreneurship and creating a business. And yeah. Those are definitely struggles but like i embrace those in stride the stuff that starts the really aggravate me is the suffix out of my control. And you know this year specifically you know the first thing would've been like last year like you mentioned trump tariffs like that was definitely frustrating. Out of my control. That was like a huge tax on our business. But it didn't really screw up our business right. Like i mean we still get inventory. We still you know just kind of operate as we normally have. We made a little bit less money in like another one of those things that you take a baseball bat to the knee. And i've felt that pain several times over the years like the things that's been really frustrating about this year in particular is like the hopelessness feeling of lake. Not being imon tori because manufacturing's like all screwed up not being able to get shipping cushing's all screwed up not being able to predict shipping rates. Which is kinda screwing with our profitability. And how he price. Things dealing with amazon suspensions this year like it just became kinda rampant in our business because sabotage became a big thing this year with other companies like injecting keywords and trying to deal with all this stuff and those again are all things out of my control and they just take up tons of mental bandwidth. Like having to deal with that stuff and for me. It's just that type of thing on me a lot more than like having to deal with cash flow or having to deal with understanding facebook ads or how to deal with just even running an ecommerce business. Because i enjoyed the business stuff in that part of it but again the things. They are just so greatly out of my control where you're predicting relying on certain parts you businesses working properly. They start breaking down and i forced manufacturers to get to slip out the door quicker. I can't change shipping. i can't stop negative attacks mariam assign listings and so for me. That's been

"Also katie the arizona. Coyotes haven't exactly been the most stable nhl franchise over the years there's been a bit of a revolving door of owners and the nhl even took control of the team for a while back in two thousand nine after a bankruptcy filing so given all of that. What was the feeling when. Alex murillo became the coyotes new owner in two thousand nineteen or so appealing on a number of levels on new era of arizona. Coyotes hockey began today the nhl. I ever hispanic owner was introduced to the valley and it was heralded as sort of Watershed moment i think for the franchise in the sense. That here could finally be that guy with uber. Deep pockets like he was reported to be a billionaire. And someone that had tied to the latino community what started this is alex enrolling arizona's cowpeas which is a market that is about forty forty two percent down and really showed a commitment to wanting to grow that level of connection with fan base. You spittle to this. But it will stand up delekta akin arizona but luckily latina. It asked us. He has a really interesting. I don't wanna say rags-to-riches tail but someone that really supposedly scrapped. His way to where he is now. His parents fled cuba in the sixties. They came to miami in college. He opened a location for a pizzeria that grew to become a chain. I had this knack for picking up. Visit our broken losing money and turning him around and make them successful. I'm very proud to be a part of the fifty five year. Old morello owns a chain of pizza restaurants in l. a. casino on the las vegas strip a construction company as well as tv and radio stations. No doubt his will in history of success. Some major win for the coyotes.

Why Doesn't California Build Big Dams Any More?

"Been talking about how most of our water comes from a system of dams and reservoirs set up to capture the states precipitation so one logical solution here is more dams right. Not so fast says jay lund a professor of civil and environmental engineering at uc davis story. I tell people is if you were the first engineer in california and you were going to build the first reservoir where would you put it. You had put it the cheapest place that gives you the most water. Where would you put the reservoir the next best place. We've done this fifteen hundred times. What do we have left. Expensive places that don't give you much water. He says with fifteen hundred dams in the state all the good damn spots are taken heck. Even a lot of the bad spots are taken but that doesn't mean that there aren't smart things we can do with our reservoirs as david romero takes it from here with four big ideas so the first big idea has to do with managing those fifteen hundred reservoirs differently. I learned how lake mendocino along the russian river. That's where i met. Nick mala savage in the middle of the mostly dry lake bed. He helps manage the lake for the us army corps of engineers in two thousand nineteen. The water was about forty feet over our heads. He says lake mendocino could go dry by the end of the summer mar lake levels here at lake. Mendocino are the lowest they've ever been for this time in the year even though this lake is nearly dry it's on the leading edge of science around reservoir management in the past. Water was let out of the reservoir whether or not storms were in the forecast. They wanted to make room for more water. They expected would come but because of climate change. Those storms are becoming less frequent malice. Savage is helping pilot a new approach at lake. Mendocino conserve wait until a major rainstorm is coming and then let water out of the reservoir. It's called forecast informed reservoir operations. We can sit on this water. We can continue to watch the forecast and then you see that big boomer of a storm conham then you can make the decision. Hey the sun's still shining. We need to put water into the river. Generate that airspace for the next storm. And we're good

China Is Limiting Kids Playing Video Games to 3 Hours a Week

"On wednesday. New rules took effect in china that severely restrict the amount of time. Young people can play video games online. Between friday and sunday gamers under eighteen years old will only be allowed to play between eight pm and nine pm the rest of the week. They won't be allowed to play at all. The regulation will also require all users to register using their real names and government issued. Id's it's of beijing's larger efforts to crack down on the growing power of tech firms and insert itself into the private lives of chinese citizens joining us to discuss how these new rules are being received. And what it means for. Gamers and gaming companies alike is the wall street. Journal's deputy china bureau chief josh chen hi josh. How are you so josh. This is the first time. China has restricted gaming for minors in two thousand nineteen limited playtime to ninety minutes on weekdays and it also limited. How much money they could spend on video games. So we're these new. Even more restrictive rules. A surprise was in wasn't a surprise last month. State media outlet published a commentary described video games as quote unquote opium of the mind and that triggered a pretty major sell off shares of gaming companies ten cent which is china's biggest gaming company. I think fell somewhere around. Eleven percent in prior to that china's leader xi jinping has taken aim at video games as a danger to the development of chinese youth. So we've suspected for a while it's something might becoming but what was surprising was just how strict and specific these restrictions were three hours is pretty miserly. Yeah these new restrictive rules. How is china planning on enforcing them in. That's a really good question. They haven't been specific about it and the way that things often work in china's at the communist party will come up with rules and then sort of leave it up to the internet companies themselves to figure out how to enforce

Giants' Scouting Director Michael Holmes Comments on MLB Draft

"I'm john shea national baseball writer of the san francisco chronicle and it's a perfect time to welcome the giant scouting director michael holmes to break down the players. He selected in the three years. He ran the giants drafts. Who's looking good. What's up with the top guys taken in this year's draft. And how does the giants versatility at the big league level. Translate undrafted so michael scouting director of the giants after a long time. Stints with the oakland as you've been with farhan zaidi. The past three years leading the drafts. And there've been some intriguing draft draft. So far i mean you had the full forty in two thousand nineteen and then because a code you only had five picks in the twenty twenty draft and then this year twenty six and the draft was wrecked during the all star break held in denver so every year is a little bit different for you in a wondering. How how you adjust from year to year and Because the game has changed and everyone has to change with the game. But how how did that. Make your job different. Well i think this year was an insecure navigate just because One coup the challenge of cova players over the last calendar year. Not having played as much Not as many reps at bats innings on the mound Us not maybe being able to build some of the history. We've we've been able to in the past with some of the players But i i thought it was a whole art. Staff overcame those obstacles. You know really well and we were able to able to get a lot of looks on on the players that we had interest in. I also think it a challenge of the draft being pushed back from date standpoint You know having the introduction of mlb combine was a new a new twist to the draft. Which i thought went really well. And they'll be a really nice job putting that on putting together Thought we got a lot of benefits from being there intending

Hong Kong Teachers Union Decides to Shut Down

"The security law imposed in hong kong last summer has been the force behind change. After troubling change in the city in nebulous turns. The law says police can arrest people for any conduct. That seriously endangers national security i. They came for the protesters and activists who ground hong kong to a halt in two thousand nineteen. Then they came for the media outlets such as the pro-democracy newspaper apple daily and its outspoken owner. Jimmy lai now. It seems the authorities have their sights set on the city's storied organized labor outfits a few weeks ago chinese state media called the city's largest teacher's union a poisonous huma that had to be eliminated and hours later. We sold the hong kong education bureau. Say it would no longer recognize the union of around one hundred thousand members or about eighty percent of the city's teaches swollen wong as a china correspondent for the economist. So then the union tried to mollify the government it cut ties with several pro democracy organizations in hong kong as well as education international which is a global group of teachers unions it also announced it would form and you working group to try to promote chinese history and culture among teachers and students but despite these compromises the union still declared it was disbanding on august tenth and it sounds as if that's not the only union that's been targeted no in july we saw five liters of speech therapists union also arrested so they had published three allegorical picture books for children about sheep protecting the village from wolves and the police accused them of writing stories that incited hatred of the government on top of this over the past euro. So we've seen three of the city's top trade union leaders arrested and that really has been deeply chilling to the labor movement. More broadly this is all part of a broader crushing of civil society in hong kong.

"I literally had to run out of my house to get away from it. It was that it was that I was still travelling exactly, but Daniel Sturge equalizing against Chelsea just now noticing that both of my goal. Goals are like from super subs because one Yama was subbed on. I think like in the seventy third minute and scored by golden the seventy fifth and Sturridge came on the eighty fifth against Chelsea in. I think it was the Carling Cup. I can't exactly remember it was early the season. But now that was in the league one. It was no because they played they played a Cup tied at mid week. And I remember they played tried to twice in a week that. Yeah. But he kinda just Dana stars back from injury. I like real for a back into the first team leg just received the ball across his body. Shaved it up and stuck it in the far corner at the top. And it was just like you couldn't say that. He didn't mean to do it. I'm actually take stealing your thunder or stealing your entry and saying the Tura goal will be my favorite goal again. That's recently by because it was like two weeks ago. But I did watch it like twelve to fourteen times. All right. Let's look forward quickly to two thousand nineteen. Eighteen what we are most looking for two or and or bold predictions. So another World Cup year women's World Cup coming in June in France, the top three teams going in fief rankings US number one, Germany, number two and the host France number three. That's going to be exciting. Right. Getting the US. I'm yeah. I mean like at any international tournament is they'll but I think the women's World Cup has consistently been very excellent. So looking forward to that. Yeah. I mean, like, it's I am like I, you know, honestly, I wanna go. Being one hundred percent real. Yeah. But what else about twenty nineteen year also going to leave the house Yaounde's of Puma behind you for your the club that you support. Yeah. I mean, that's like a minor thing. But I'm really looking forward to arsenals and ending their Puma contractor deal ends at the end of excuse me this year or next season. I should say the end of this season. So starting from the two thousand nineteen two thousand twenty season arsenal will be in a is team. I don't love honestly, all of Dita's kits. It's kinda hit or miss actually always have preferred Nike were to come cabinet. But I think it's Adidas will be upgrade over Puma. I don't think all of the Puma kits have been bad people slate them a lot. I don't think they've been all bad. But I think I'm really curious. I mean arsenal were in data team way back in the day. So I'm curious to see, but you're over the era of the nipple chafe. Basically. I mean, some of the data shirts are kind of nipple chafing to nipple chafing. To. But I want to see those like, you know, crazy blue and yellow strips again, you know, Fisher do you have any bold predictions for either the beginning of two thousand nineteen or the middle of the end. I've said at the beginning of the season that Liverpool. We're gonna win the league. I still stand by that. I think that despite I think that like that Chris, you know, being kind of. Worried that Liverpool is gonna piss it away in the next coming weeks. Here is not completely unfounded. But I I I think I'm with you. I think that they could win it this year, or at least I want to believe that they can win it this year. But, you know, at the same time, it's just kind of like, you know, like cities the death star at this point. Yeah. All right. So final prediction from me for the arsenal. Currently sit fifth-place they have basically, you know, no centrebacks right now. But. I still predicted..

"Would you prefer to be receiving Jarvis Landry or apple servers Landry yet? Well, that's literally like pretty much what exactly the trade opposition was for Landry. Really? Yeah. So it and Open open it it when when Admiral. Admiral. Yeah, but who it was a fifth place. I can't. I can't believe any team would be willing to say we'll send a fourth round pick for ally apple, and then the goal to say and give us a seventh. That's that's insane. Wild. Okay. I you, Dave Gettleman I see you a little bit a little teeny tiny bit for making Gruden with the Amari Cooper for our first round peg just because GM made an objectively good move. Doesn't mean they're all of a sudden actually good at their jobs and also because GM made a bad move in selected ally, apple number one in the first round. But what in the top ten tenth over all the league is enamored with busts, like with the is an and enamored with Ohio State coroner's. So the league's hammered with the same type of bunch of them now don't they? I'm long Nobis Marshon Lattimore, Eli, apple von Belen, Bellancourt omens, all of them are Ohio State products. Now, I'm pretty sure they have the Coleman's not starting for them or something or maybe von bell isn't actually probably von Bell's not late. The way they have a lot a lot and then Marcus will inside a Utah shall Marcus Williams. So. Okay, Ben as much as I've talked about feeling the pressure of this season like buildup in me getting closer to the edge here. Here's the thing and I wanna hit this off of the past. It's okay for me and you and fans and other writers to feel like it's not time to make a trade now because the season is starting to look like it somewhat over and you want to keep you. You wanna keep those future investments in house rather than trying to fix something right now. But general managers never get to think that way. And I don't think that Howie Roseman and Doug Peterson and I was telling you this on Twitter. I don't think they're the type to say it's week eight, repre- screwed. Let's not make a move to improve this team this year because I don't believe in them like, that's, that's. That's the vibe that I get when people say will don't trade for anyone right now. Look towards the future. We Roseman is not operating under that on brillo exclusively. That's not the DNA of this team, nor would I ever want it to be because if that's the way they're thinking, you never win a Super Bowl, no point in any NFL teams development at all. Should they see a player, Patrick Peterson's caliber and age become available and say, you know what? This is not a good time for us to be trading for him. Thirty q out of thirty teams should want. Patrick Peterson at this current price point is carnage on their team. That's what that's what I said. When when the news came out, I said, thirty one teams should be should be on the phone. The only reason Carolina might trade him is not the cardinals by trade him is not because air Sonal thinks they don't need him as he has. Patrick. Pearson wants to get the heck out of Arizona, right? So it hurts their leverage. So Daniel, Jeremiah brought up this hypothetical trade. Then I put this up on the BGN radio account on Twitter at BGN, underscore radio. Here it goes, this is the hypoth-. Trade for the eagles. Don't yell at me. The eagles would give up their two thousand nineteen two thousand end twenty first round picks along with our two thousand nineteen fourth round selection. "So the bears you, it's hard to put from our perspective blame on one side or another. It's just annoying. The system is not set up to have, but in this case, it really does seem like the bears are trying to get something a little ridiculous that no other teams are trying to get in that the bears are out on an island and roquan Smith. Agent understandably is trying to not set a precedent. I think you can question whether it's worth it for an organization to have their first round, pick miss extended action over fines on field suspension from on field rules like suspensions and fines from that, like it's not worth it to have a miss that time and they're and they're, it's a new development that they're trying to insert this into the contract. Rookie is reported for the bears two weeks ago. So this is pretty long haul out for roquan Smith. And another new jets news, new uniforms coming next year, bring back the eighties jet wasn't say, is it new or you're gonna revert to? I don't know. I bet it'll be like a combination where maybe the eighties jets back, but it's a new. I would just say careful what you wish for because I was excited when clear, say what for the Justice put like Cleveland again across. They can have Cleveland's current uniforms. They're all do. Heartland idea like the jets didn't try to like pretend like they were punishing darnold for this at all. He jogged onto practice halfway through it starting. He gets a slow clap and immediately getting first team reps, and we have props on the sandwiches on the line tag team sandwich prop. If you missed too much more time, it really would have put into peril any chance of week one starting. Now it's remains wide open. Moving on the Seattle Seahawks less season. Pull the trigger on a trade to acquire left, tackle, Duane Brown from the Texans. He immediately filled. Avoid for Seattle, and now the two sides are locked into a long term deal. The team announced they've signed Brown to multi your contract extension rap sheet reports the deal where thirty six point, five million. This has been going on for weeks Brown had been set to enter the finally ever contract worth. Nine point seven, five million now he's in Seattle through twenty twenty one. Everybody getting paid on the line right now. Greg. Yeah, you, he improved them immediately. And so if you're a halfway decent starter, he's now scientists, thirty six years old. I think there's a chance that the Seahawks offense line is significantly better because of Dwayne Brown, and because of just getting rid of Tom cable, that if you just have sorta cavern coaching and a little bit of Dwayne Brown and maybe they're fine, and that's a big room for improvement to huge spot for them an issue for them for years and years. And they gave up a two thousand eighteen third round to two thousand nineteen second round or so you couldn't let this deal not get done. You've already. You've already put resources into Brown, his strong play down the stretch, really obscured how inept the rest of the offense of line was because he was on the field for those games when Aaron Donald was just wreck entire line in Russell Wilson couldn't do anything. So you've got the Wayne Brown, but I'm far from convinced that they're going to be a better offense of line this year in injury news, yes, it's training camp guys are practicing. People get hurt. It sucks will start with the Panthers where right, tackle Daryl Williams suffered a dislocated kneecap ended MC l. Tare on Saturday and practice. No timetable yet, but this seems like something that could end Williams of season. How much is this going to hurt? Carolina was? Well, you would think if you spend a second round pick on a guy the year before Taylor Moton the guy they drafted last year that he ought to be ready after a year of coaching in the NFL and the weight room that he ought to be ready to step right in at right tackle. And maybe not be that pro level guy that they're Williams was last year, but good enough. But this is why guys hold out. He was an all pro whose underpaid going into his contract year..

"Sam darnold in the bad year the down your i should say what we expected and all the issues with the various quarterbacks and then take about where we're the new england patriots are right now i think you could make a strong argument atom new england patriots at the best of anybody when you look at what they have for next year two thousand nineteen second round pick coming from chicago two thousand nineteen third round pick coming from the troy adding isaiah win was an outstanding player all your in a singer practices he was lights out sony michelle duke dawson when a better slot corners out there and then late braxton berrios we said it all day standing amendola steps right into that role orion is tied in can make that team as can christian san the linebacker maradona say engine bentley from purdue i wouldn't be surprised about four or five i'd say seven of the nine make the team and seven and nine contribute the same and they're set up for next year now granted they lost rashad evans tennessee moved up and got him ahead of doing patriots patriots taking no they weren't no they were not okay okay but they also fortified for next year they're minor league system and they gave up the third for trenton brown but by this about the minor league baseball it's like making sure that your triple at your everything baseball has to be set up through your mind league system and i think new england got away from that they're back to it now they had a good draft this year now with a one to two two threes adam they're set up for next you just clean up on that rashawn evans point i thought the same thing and on friday morning spoke to the organization i go disappointment that you guys didn't get rashawn heavens.

"I was calling him the wizard ozzie smith another dated reference for you mr kuyper he was a wizard in this burt bly leventis brings up hoc figure i might as well as well stick with it it's a theme by the way jim palmer had a great curveball over hanker front of my point here i wanna game winners part of that he's well known for his maneuvering and managing the draft ozzie newsome this was one of his best drafts in terms of managing it and it was his final draft and special guy to you he's been special to me one of the first people i've known gary horton who brought me into this business worked with him with a caveman caveman there you go so i i've known ozzy for a long time not as long as you and obviously both have good relationships with ozzy loved the guy love what he's done in that draft and i thought that this was brilliant what he did moving back twice picking up extra picks utilizing using one of those picks to help move back into the first round you gotta tight end good value instead of reaching form early you get a quarterback that potentially this year can help and potentially could be your daughter and then to continue to move around and get additional picks and you listen to all the players that they got it was unbelievable draft it seems like every year we talk about this with the with ozzie and the ravens obviously eric to cost a big one there he'll be taken over but it just seems like every year they end up with that extra two maybe two extra twos or an extra three or three where you're like guys gonna play the same thing it's just to the point about the patriots the patriots set them up for next year they have two thousand nineteen second round pick coming from chicago two thousand nine hundred third round pick coming from detroit bill belichick's already goes in the next year strath they didn't they didn't.
