"AP sports, I'm Bruce Morton. Iowa sent shockwaves through the women's college basketball world. It held off previously unbeaten defending champs, South Carolina, 77, 73. AP national player of the year Caitlin Clark led the way for the hawkeyes with a semifinal record 41 points and said this game wasn't just a win. It was a showcase for her sport. I'm sure so many people wish this was a series of 7 games. That would be really, really fun. And I think we continued the series. It might go one way or the other every single time. The game Crocs aliyah Boston said this wasn't the way they wanted to finish, but they still had a season to remember. Just winning. 36 games. I feel like that's unbelievable. Sunday, the hawks will meet LSU, which took over in the fourth quarter and a 79 72 win over Virginia tech. Alexis Morris was game high with 27 points for a Bayou Bengal team that made it to the championship game for the first time in program history. Maybe the standing champions at the end maybe I can just let go and just be like, ha. Next up, the men's final four on Saturday with Florida Atlantic facing San Diego state followed by Miami versus Yukon. Pro basketball, the Celtics continued their push for the top seat in the east by besting shorthanded Utah one 22 one 14. Jason Tatum came through with a game high 39 points. Each game presents a different challenge. And so whatever we went through today was probably not going to be as hard as what the players are going to be like. Other NBA winners included the Knicks, grizzlies and sons. Baseball Jorge solar and jazz Chisholm each Homer to give Miami a two one decision over the mets. Dave ferry has details. So Lara put Miami ahead in the second inning in Chisholm provided insurance in the 8th. Jesus luzardo combined with three relievers on a four hitter with lizardo yielding two hits over 5 and two thirds. The Astros came from behind to beat the White Sox 6 three, and the rockies won at San Diego four to one. First Martin AP sports

You got us to chase and then when he needed to get a quick contact out, he was able to do so. I mean, he had everything working as tough not to hit. Garrett Cooper had three hits for the Marlins who reached Metz starter and loser David Peterson for 8 hits over 5 innings. I'm Dave ferry.

"The Texas Rangers overcame a 5 nothing deficit to rally past the Philadelphia Phillies 11 to 7 in a matchup of the rangers debut of Jacob de rohm and the Phil's Aaron nola, who both allowed 5 runs and three and two thirds innings. Texas manager Bruce bochy says the rangers 9 one fourth was special. What an ending just had some great at bats and that big inning there and that's great when, especially on the open air, so exciting out there. Californians eager for sunnier days after relentless winter

"After years of drought, it was too much rain in snow for California. It was a strange stormy and cold winter for the Golden State. This week's atmospheric river was the 12th such storm in the states since late December. Californians initially welcomed the precip in chilly temperatures after a record hot summer and many years of drought, but the relentless storms busted the drought in two thirds of the state and broke precip records along the way. The national weather service says San Diego has already recorded 5 more inches of rain than normal and Los Angeles had the wettest beginning of the year since 2005. I'm Shelley Adler.

Made in the USA? Proposed rule clarifies grocery meat labels

"It could soon be easier to know if that meat you buy in grocery stores is actually made in the USA. Right now. This label on meat, poultry, egg products can be used even if the product was not actually raised in the USA. White House spokes of in Korean John Pierre says federal agriculture officials are proposing a new rule that would only let that label be used if the products come from animals born raised slaughtered and processed in the U.S.. The agriculture department says a surveyed commission found nearly two thirds of shoppers believed a product of USA label met most or all the production steps actually occurred in the U.S. about 12% of those products sold in the U.S. now carry that label. "two thirds" Discussed on Bloomberg Radio New York

"Market stuff. We're seeing an appetite for risk here in the Asian session Brian Tokyo Sydney and Seoul are trading to the upside, particularly in Japan where the nikkei is up by more than 1% the yen stronger here, one 36 66. We did get news on the Japanese jobless rate in the month of January coming in at 2.4%, slightly below market expectations. And at the same time, if you look at overall consumer prices in Tokyo, they were up in the month of February at a rate of 3.4%, a little above forecast, excluding energy and fresh food, 3.2%. That's also year over year and again above estimates. But right now, I think it's fair to say that most expect the rate of inflation in Japan to drift lower, that said nearly two thirds of those surveyed by Bloomberg, those that watched the BOJ are expecting a shift in monetary policy by the month of June. Kind of an interesting day here in the U.S. where interest rates were concerned. We were up across the curve some worrying economic news were inflation is concerned unit labor cost in the fourth quarter rising at a rate of 3.2% on an annualized basis. That was nearly three times the preliminary estimate. We heard from the head of the Atlanta fed Rafael bostic. Now he suggested the fed might be in a position to pause in its rate hike strategy by mid to late summer. If you really look at what he was saying, the particulars, it seems to line up pretty well with what the market is pricing. Peak funds rate at around 5 and a half percent by September. We've got the ten year treasury now in Tokyo with a yield of 4.05% a two year at four 89, otherwise in the equity markets. We've got the Cosby up four tenths of 1% and in Sydney the ASX 200 ahead four tenths of 1%. Another look at markets in 15 minutes, Brian. Doug, thanks very much. Let's take a look at some of the top stories here individual stories Broadcom is predicting a soft landing after a sales slowed down this year. That's as companies keep spending on corporate networking infrastructure. In the meantime, Broadcom gave a rosy revenue forecast for the current quarter, saying that revenue would be about $8.7 billion. Analysts were estimating about 8.6 billion. Bloomberg's Ian king explains how Broadcom is different from its peers. Remember way back to the pandemic, this company and it's kind of characterful as the hot town was like, okay, you want to order stuff from us? You're not going to be allowed to cancel it. And that was relatively unprecedented in the industry. He's being very, very strict. And sort of maintains stability, which I think people have rewarded him for. CEO hock tan said that even though the second half will bring a deceleration, he said that he's expecting to see sales grow from where they were a year ago. Broadcom shares were little changed in late trading after this report was released. Chinese vice premier Liu hua said that China needs to mobilize national resources to develop a domestic microchip industry. We had more from Bloomberg siobhan man. Said China must focus on research and development with companies and entrepreneurs playing the key role. His comments come as Washington limits China's imports of the most advanced semiconductors, and they spoke days after president Xi Jinping urged the country to accelerate scientific research to achieve self reliance. Meantime, China has pledged to invest another $1.9 billion in the country's biggest memory chips maker, Yangtze memory technologies. In Hong Kong, I'm Ivan Mann, Bloomberg, Debra, Asia. To banking news, Citigroup is cutting hundreds of jobs. Let's get the story from Bloomberg's and Kate. Bloomberg is reporting that city will eliminate positions across the company with the Wall Street giants investment banking and mortgage divisions among those affected sources say the reductions are routine and amount to less than 1% of Citigroup's 240,000 person workforce. The move comes just weeks after JPMorgan Chase laid off hundreds of mortgage employees and Goldman Sachs in January embarked on one of its biggest rounds of job cuts ever, with plans to chop thousands of positions. In Washington and Kate's Bloomberg daybreak Asia. Citigroup traded down about two tenths of 1% in the regular session financial shares overall down even more down about a half of 1%. The time is just about 6 minutes past the hour it's time for world news. U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says that he was very direct in his short meeting with Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov. At Baxter has global news in the 9 60 newsroom in San Francisco. Yeah, exactly right, Brian, so you said it direct and simple. Irish Russia to reverse. It's irresponsible decision and return to implementing the new start treaty. Which places verifiable limits on the nuclear arsenals of the United States to the Russian Federation. And in the ten ten minute meet on the sidelines of the G 20, blinken says they also talked to China as China and Russia were the only two nations to vote against the resolution to end the war in Ukraine. Blinken says that is sort of a win. You

TikTok sets new default time limits for minors

"TikTok is setting new default time limits for minors. In the coming weeks, TikTok says every account held by a user under 18 will have a default 60 minute daily screen time limit. Families have struggled with limiting the amount of time their kids spend on the video sharing app. According to the Pew Research Center, about two thirds of American teens use TikTok, a report released late last year suggests TikTok's algorithms are promoting videos about self harm and eating disorders to vulnerable teens. Instagram has faced similar accusations. The changes arrive at a time of growing concerns among different governments about TikTok security, the update also mirrors gaming rules imposed on minors in China where TikTok is based. The Twitterverse Weighs in on Congressman Greg Steube's Beard

"The first things to upgrade to congressman from Florida you've made such an impression and we've been on the podcast before. But I have to say, we got to start off on a fun note here. It has been a big topic of conversation since and we'll get into the unfortunate accident here earlier, but it has changed your looks. What are you getting? What's the feedback on the beards to be in the no beard studio? So the twitterverse 68% actually, more than two thirds, the twitterverse says I need to bring back the beard. So when I was in the hospital for three weeks, I had one of those C collars on and it was just rubbing my head and it was just driving me absolutely nuts. I mean, when I finally was with it enough, I told my dad, you need to go down to the emergency room and grab one of those pairs of clippers and just shave me down. And so for the time I had the sea collar on, it just because of the rubbing. I couldn't do it. And then ever since then, as I've started to grow it out, it's like it gets itchy and everything else, and we're getting into summertime in Florida. So I don't know. It's kind of like a new chapter, but we did put it. We did put it out there in the Twitter verse is like 68% to bring the beard back, but I look like 15 years older with the beard. So I'm still playing with it.

Alex Shipp, CSO of Offshift, Talks the Future of On-Chain Privacy

"Alex ship, welcome to the crypto 101 podcast. How are you doing today? Thank you. It's a pleasure to be here. Already, you guys are sharing a bunch of anecdotes at all. I'm ready to comment on. Well, let's hit it. What's your first, what's your first inkling? Where would you want to take this conversation today? Well, I mean, I'm supposed to be best for me to introduce myself where I should say reintroduce myself. I was actually on here with you one on one in March 2022. Yes, you weren't. Pizza mine, you said pizza mine. I did not get to meet Aaron. So Aaron, this is our first run in here. So I'm looking forward to getting both of you guys this time around. It's a pleasure, Alex. Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I'll just I'll sort of kick off here. I'm the CSO at auction. We are pioneering pride fire private decentralized finance on Ethereum layer one and we're launching our debut platform the week of February 27th, off shifting on. So we're very excited and have sort of a lot to talk about there. And definitely a lot to share with our community and others. And I'm doing the rounds here. But yeah, on chain privacy, in particular, there's so much to be said. And not just not just on the C 5 side, so to speak, whether you're talking about a centralized exchange or the recent stuff with Celsius network and that whole release via the court order of user data and user information. But then, of course, also the centralized exchange stuff with FTX. So there's a whole lot there. That's on the centralized side, but on the DeFi side, a lot of people might not be aware, even though it was a little bit of the news piece from I believe TechCrunch this past week that addressable, which is a sort of digital fingerprint startup, not sure if you guys have heard. But they just raised 7.5 million claiming that they can actually link on chain addresses. That means the theorem addresses EBM addresses to social media accounts, namely Twitter, they claim they've already linked 17 million addresses to social media accounts on Twitter. Using their proprietary algorithms. So that's I'm not going to lie when I read that news report about addressable. I was like calling bullshit. I'm like, this is theranos for crypto. There's no fucking way. Yeah, yeah. You'd like to think that, right? I mean, whether or not whether or not they are the real deal or whether or not they come through on their word. I think it's sort of, it's sort of an ominous note that people are working on this. There is money behind it. There are some VCs who believe in it. And so you can imagine one, two, three years out. There's going to be something that looks like addressable that's going to be operational and functional.

Martin Tuason on the New Gun Taking the Industry by Storm

"Tourists on welcome to America first. Thank you for having me. So much to discuss, your sister told me you love to talk, so this will not be a difficult interview. She said, I said, these are the questions I want to ask, what else should I ask that? You don't need any more questions. He loves to talk. Tell me about this gun that has taken the industry by surprise, looks very different, shoots very different and apparently has a very different internal mechanism. Tell us about the 5. Well, the 5, first of all, we nicknamed it the Mona Lisa as we were developing it over 7 years. It has a patented recall system, basically what it does without getting into all the science of it. It changes the way the gun has a recoil and how it absorbs into the body. So that it is a more manageable recoil, more straight back than up and down, like a flip, you know, with your cadence and stuff like that for your second shot. It's much easier to keep your optics and your gun on target and go for that second, third, fourth, 5th, 6th, tenth shot, you know, as quickly as possible. And of course, the trigger system in there is a single action trigger with a 1911 grip, so it points true, not like some other striker fires out there or something like that. And when I say striker fire, it's because it looks like it's a striker fire. But it's got a hammer inside, right? So it's got a much better trigger. Oh yes, internal hammer fired. It comes with about a 5 pound trigger, but it feels like it's one.

"I'm not even sure a lot of these things anymore are objects When we look at the entire library of material we have And that's kind of where I wanted to start with you on this story It's a very concerning story I trust nothing out of the Biden administration There's limits on what you can say and do and I'll leave that obviously up to you But when you were in the administration was this the kind of thing that came up often aerial intrusions balloons What was your experience with it Well Dan it's a great starting point And what's shocking is a definite silence on the last three objects versus the first object which is provided in great detail and its detection was somehow a complete failure of an entire DoD and intelligence apparatus But let's put that aside These objects one two three four and we're probably going to get a dozen more The reason you didn't hear about them in the Trump administration flying around near or over America or territorial lands is because it did not happen And the reason it didn't happen is and I said this before it's not a Trump thing or a Biden thing It's whether or not our commander in chief has lost on the global stage to tell Xi Jinping Vladimir Putin and other enemies to say stay the heck away from America and they had that respect for the prior administration Now this administration is creating euphemism backtracking talking about aliens and UFOs out of norad and talking about basically spaceships and invaders when we should be talking about the fact that our territorial interests in the United States of America have been pierced by at least the CCP and probably Russia and that's just the stuff that's been caught now in the Biden administration wants to redesign the intelligence community to say oh but it probably happened before we just we weren't looking now we're looking so we're touching everything in pat itself on the back of some sort of victory This is a colossal failure

Rep. LaMalfa: Californians Support Standing up for Female Athletes

"Curious your constituents there in California, which everyone thinks, oh, well, all of California's liberal. That is not the case. And I'm curious to know if you're getting response from people there about your decision to stand up and fight alongside these female swimmers and female athletes. Well, we're getting a very positive response from, I mean, every district is going to have a few crazies in it, such that think this is a great idea. And obviously I don't represent something like San Francisco or the east bay or LA or something like that. We're just sort of thinking, but there's a whole bunch of California in looking at look at the map, it'd be probably two thirds of the state, let's say, inland from the coast, 20 miles, 30 miles, it's not as crazy as what. The perception is, right? We're not all the Disneyland. We're not all surfboards. We have a lot of normal people inland that are farmers and ranchers and loggers and miners and drive pickups and they like hunting and they think they should be able to own guns and defend themselves and they think men and women are women and that's how it should be. So there's this really no room for this nonsense. No matter where you are because it's a distraction from what has made our country strong by having people at each other's throats over this crazy Ness. And the bottom line is that the people that are undergoing these sex changes, I've seen stats that the incidence of suicide is like, I believe, 18 times higher than what would be average. So this is not giving them a truth or reality, there's videos out there and such. Well, they've interviewed folks, and they felt like they've been lied to, and

"To come in maybe two, three days a week, or even just working from home remotely. Like we just spoke to Patrick Spence CEO of Sonos about. What does the future of work look like to you? The future of work looks like less of, I'm going to be in this job for 30 years, 20 years, even ten years. And I'm going to do it based on what gives me pleasure what allows me to connect with my values. So me being potentially a millennial, not a 60 or 50 year old person. They tend to be more loyal. I think the millions will call their own play. I think they will want to stay home. They will want to go and work wherever they want to work. They want to spend three months in Hawaii because it's all about the technology and the connectivity of that. Now, it's a great leveling of the playing field because The Office is people had clicks that they went in, right? So when you're offline when you're out of the office, it seems like you have more ability to connect with people and they're not going to have form these clicks that they do with the lunchroom or whatever. So there's a lot more independence and people would appreciate that. Great point, Stephanie Jones, thank you so much. Check out our new book, win when they say you won't break through barriers and keep leveling up your success. All right, folks, that's it for this Thursday. Happy Friday's eve, Carol. We're almost there. Pretends to no effect, I'm Carol massar. Have a good and safe evening. When the market day begins with chemistry it's okay, you're a full this morning. You can come on a reaction. "Of a not some more aggressive restructuring there So first of all I always would like to resolving the problems the operational issues that the team has irrespective of the share our team is energy holds and fema's This has to be done really independent of this And this is what we're doing You know we own two thirds of Siemens gamesa We are widely presented on the board We can influence the company We tackle the things and I believe the measures are on its way In terms of structure is something I can at this point in time and really comment on But it's also not my priority My priority is fix the operational problems in Siemens games that something we can do And we are addressing and what the management of teams can is also addressing One thing is said to this as I said certain things are really issues they have to address The other discussion is really about the overall industry because we have seen it with all peers in the wind areas Everybody was struggling And this also means that the continuous logic of renewables get cheaper and cheaper by the material cost increases it's not working out We have to discuss about that element to really drive this industry forward That was the Siemens energy CEO Christian speaking earlier to Mark cudmore and I on and me on Bloomberg at TV worth just a checking where we are on the zoom's energy share price Actually fairly unmoved compared to the previous close just up by a tenth of a percent at 24 60 so not much movement Really interesting to hear his thoughts though on the pricing of wind technology because you might think cop 26 is telling us telling us every day about the need for more renewable energy And so it might seem as if that kind of industry would be doing really well But that kind of industry also faces higher input costs from raw materials and has done and therefore the pricing of some of its products the contracts they operate under in the flexibility they have to change prices for customers really interesting Let us get away from the corporate news flow the individual corporate stories and get back to the global news flow with an update his buoyancy and gearings And a good morning and thank you Bloomberg sources say U.S. president Joe Biden and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping are scheduled to hold a virtual summit.

"Um, and I didn't know that until I was reading in. On your amendment and that shocking to me because I gather the IRS says Inmate laborers are not employees and so, therefore the Occupational Safety and Health Act. And the administration of that the agency called OSHA and the federal government, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. Their standards don't protect prison laborers. Do I have that right? And is that absolute? Yes, you have You have that right? That shocking. Would your amendment correct that or would that take a separate law? It certainly would give some leverage. It isn't clear that it would would modify that directly. But it enables prisoners who are being exposed A they're being exposed to asbestos, which amazingly still used in American production, or to other chemicals without a proper mass to prevent your contamination. Or some other thing that the prisoner says Now this is this is really a bad idea. I shouldn't shouldn't be in this situation is going to destroy my help. They'd have the ability to push back and say I'm sorry. Unless unless we improve these working conditions, I'm not accepting this. This this work. Should note that in some cases, I'm sure that people are entering into jobs were the the there being essentially rented out to companies that are providing the same work conditions that they have for other employees? So it's not that every job is dangerous. It's just there is no protection for prisoner from from from a dangerous situation. We just have a couple of minutes left with US Senator Jeff Merkley of Oregon, one of the Democrats, leading the effort to amend the Constitution to get rid of the so called slavery loophole. In the 13th amendment with a joint resolution known as the Abolition Amendment. So, Senator, How realistic is it that this amendment could get past? I think it takes. Let's see. Tell me if I've got my civics, right? Two thirds of the majority of both the House and the Senate, followed by three quarters of the states to ratify a constitutional amendment. Exactly right, and it's it's very rare. But what I'm encouraged by is worth the start of an important conversation, a conversation that has involved Republican states like Nebraska like Utah. Other states are starting to go. Oh, my goodness. We didn't realize we had this in our constitution. So there'll be a series of state discussions that will help pave the passport. We will have results from those states, which we can take to the federal Conversation and say your fear was that X y z? Uh, those fears did not happen. When states change this law, it's making these work programmes better. Stronger, more significant, um, health and safety protected. Helping prisoners developed some savings for success. When they leave prison. The effects have all been positive. We? We need to develop that record in order to be able to have a conversation that has some chance of getting three force. Or two thirds of two thirds of the House and Senate and then three force of the states. So we're at the beginning of that, but recognize this. We just had a year in which we talked a lot about systemic racism. Here We have a hugely powerful clause in the Constitution that has driven systemic racism from the end of the civil war. Forward. And remember, As I pointed out, it's still driving. It's one of the factors that is driving mass incarceration because of the private prison industry still profiting from running out prisoners so Changing. This is not symbolic. It will have real effects, real positive effects. And in this national conversation about systemic racism, wouldn't it be great to eliminate this? Glaring, atrocious slavery clause out at 13th Amendment. Senator Merkley. We really appreciate your time. Thanks so much for coming on with us and sharing this Thank you. Pleasure to be with you, Brian. Brian Lara on w N Y C will continue this conversation with Bianca Tilak from the group Worth rises, plus calls after.

I know are wooden teeth budget out of control. Just throwing them away. Do something a man. The horse which legitimate rape cooking five. This week in mississauga. This segment starts in ireland. And that tells you a frightening amount about the subject. Doesn't it as soon as i said the word ireland. You knew this was gonna be a story about the vatican coming after. Somebody's uterus and you aren't wrong so ireland in case you're listening and we know you are big fans of the show as we go through this first story. I want you to reflect on the fact that that is what you're known for anyway so let me give you the details as i understand them. The state is dedicating some eight hundred million euros to a new national maternity hospital which will serve low income mothers and their young children as well as women with high risk pregnancies. The problem is that to do so. The pardoning with the catholic church or rather they're partnering with a level of russian nesting dolls within the catholic church with just a map plausible deniability to make the sources of this confusing as fuck but the fear amongst secular activists. Is that the deal. Currently being brokered is gonna allow the catholic church to have a say in the running of said hospital. Look there are a lot of reasons. You don't want the catholic church involved with women and young children in. It's not just the young children half of the equation. The major fear now is that they're gonna get in the way of reproductive rights there are nominal assurances that all services possible under the law will be available at the hospital. But that doesn't mean the church care. Put its thumb on the scale and make abortion harmless ever lovin hell to team but surprisingly not all the abortion news is bad this week i wanted to highlight an op ed. I saw recently from unofficial statistician of the scathing atheist ryan burge and the title of the piece kind of says it all abortion. Just isn't the motivating issue for evangelical at once was in the article birch points to a recent study from the public religious research institute where they asked a number of americans where they think. The government's priorities should be and the only thing that right lower than abortion among white evangelicals was motherfucking gun control. In fact fewer than thirty percent said they thought enacting antiabortion law should be a top priority for the government. F course this this twin so even the good news has bad news. Invested in it while abortion has been losing importance on the evangelical priority list. It's being replaced with shit like immigration reform. So it's not that they've stopped being bigots. It's their parceling out there bigotry and a different way. but still. that's as good as you can really hope for in terms of misogyny related. Good news so wrap things up there and i answer back over to know. He's andy lie. Thank you cinde next headlines. We have a story about cat kerr. Oh always a treat. Ya always a treat indeed. "Well. I guess teddy should've made one more tape about making sure that mom doesn't hold on down to the local school board meeting. Because here's what miss baker had to say quote. I wanted to tell you that. I have to vaccine injured children and they have medical exemptions because after the seizures and the hospitalizations after all of their immunizations i was granted obviously a medical exemption so my children are those rare children that will not be able to get the vaccine and quote a quick side note. No i don't absolutely not. It is twenty twenty one. I'm going to go ahead and assume statistically that everyone who says they or someone they know. Our vaccine injured are lying and the point zero zero zero one percent of the time that i'm wrong. I'll feel a little bit bad about it. But that's my new policy. That's literally alive. Even if she's telling the truth that means both our kids had a vaccination it lead to seizures and a trip to the hospital for both them and then she had them get a few more vaccines be sure about right more seizures and more hospitalizations and now she's drawing the line at cove it. Yeah but look i. I don't dismiss imperfect here but look pre cova. "Out for that new irony variant titles. Lou misleading right so he had young is spent the better part of a year railing about connection between the kobe. Vaccine and the mark of the beast attributing the genesis of his concerns to such reliable and credible authorities as some people an email in my inbox and social media. All of them. Yeah all three agree that the vaccine role outlines up pretty well with apocalyptic prophecy for example. And this is a real example that he uses in one of his targets. If you assume that he's right and it's all a secret ploy by the devil using false signs and wonders the pardon thesselonians about the anti fresh using false signs and wonders lines up exact others the same words hackley right and based on no more logic than that. He concluded that the true christian should avoid the vaccine at all costs. beers opened. It was one of the people that believe in that originally cough the fucking virus down a stupid goddamn maw okay. I like how he was picturing. Satan the prince of darkness presenting vaccine like he's a fucking carnival barker who out the wonder vaccine only a nickel circle. Yeah i like. I like that because he doesn't know how the vaccine works. It's literally magic. Yep right here. Are the two categories things he understands and literal fucking match jeff matching but he's not the only religious leader accidentally making our point for us this week. Well he didn't have the courtesy to die in time for this recording. As of now antitax cardinal raymond l. burke has been hospitalized with covert after a year plus campaign to convince people not to take the pandemic. So goddamn seriously now. Like i said burke isn't dead but he is on a better later which is ninety so emmys ways nowhere may know. Emmys grammys a look. What are you gonna shut down. Its throat to keep them from repeating life threatening conspiracies. I'm i'm okay with that. Aware me would be him living in. that's fine. that's fine. But according to his twitter account thousands of people are praying for himself. Seems like either. God doesn't exist or were wasting apec and ventilator. God's on it right. It feels like an unpaid for atheist. Should get that shit or at least somebody who wasn't on cova d- side until the day he was admitted to the goddamn hospital and greg abbott. Just got cova. Isn't that long. Happy is a great day for the irony and in bad news bears news who i know the right wing of our government has at least partially moved on from blaming muslims to blaming transpeople masks and i dunno college education for everything wrong with the world but for the record islam. The religion sucks a tremendous amount of tremendous. Yeah in a bad way from its holy book to the countries where it's in power battery justice. Dangerous is the new testament is sure to follow. And we got a nice little throwback reminder that this week when an eight year old boy in pakistan became the youngest person in the history of the country to be charged with blasphemy in the history of the country. That that's interesting. It makes some other country holds the record. that's less than eight pakistan makes fun of those like backwards yokels who jail seventy-six or are jealous of them right. Yeah like i look. I know that the message. They're trying to send isn't our goddess. Such a fragile little pansy. He can't handle an insult war with a third grader. But i'll be damned if i know what it is. They're trying to say. yes exactly. Yeah so according to reports the boy who is hindu is charged with intentionally urinating on a rug in the library of an islamic religious school which may be true. I don't know but whether he pissed on the carpet on purpose or not. I think we can all agree. Didn't do it with the intention of insulting the prophet muhammad. Yeah probably not. I know he's only eight but it did really tied the room together. Thought sure yeah. So as a result the eight year old child was held in jail for a week. He and his family have fled into protective custody and perhaps most ironically. An angry mob vandalized a hindu temple in retribution. Yeah what were not charged with blasphemy side. Note the punishment for blasphemy in pakistan is debt and more than week after. This kid's release not a single government authority involved in. This case has said that murdering a child is off the table. Okay so the government is like i'm rubber and your glue and we murder you now in government and in abstinence news tonight fantastic. josh harris. Thank you as a fantastic exemplar of how far evangelical pastor is from getting it like like harris has taken several steps towards getting it but we learned this week that he's still isn't even close enough to see what it is and we learned that when the guy who got rich selling purity culture only to publicly to doubts later offered to help people who are harmed by religious sexual. Prudery for money really. Yes he apologized for some reason for all those years and offered to make it up to them by selling them. The antidote he antidote. Yeah and that would be sex right. Yes he selling the concept of sexual intercourse. all right. thank you all for coming to the class. And then he just stands in the senate a room and yells faulk like he's trying to start food so for those unfamiliar that doesn't work by the way the yelling. Fuck thing in the know of does warn now harris. I'm not allowed back to that hospital. We have gotten me. No you told us times Set so zander. So harris burst unto the evangelical scene with his nineteen ninety-seven book. I kissed dating goodbye. And his two thousand up boy meets girl. Say hello to courtship where he urged readers to forego dating in favor of courtship. A synonym that he imbued with all kinds of new meaning including bringing your parents along on dates. The book was held up by critics. As a prime example of benevolent sexism and promotes rape culture by treating women like property and urging them to be sexually passive and critiques. Were so convincing by that. Ultimately they convinced the author himself who and twenty eighteen apologized forever having written it he also asked the publisher to stop publishing it. And they're like dude we haven't done production run in fifteen years sure. Yeah man will not.

"International. Talk like jar jar. Binks niece away more problematic than you remember. A- no allusions bosnich He then right and for mike. The situation sorn teenagers on blue stain. This is the scathing ideas. This week's episode. Islam finds a worse use for an eight year. Old prophet did out. We learn again that it's not like the holocaust. Whatever you're about saying it's not and dominancy so from cognitive dissonance will be here to make the paying customers cry. But i the diatribe if you set aside the possibility that religions are correct and that's kind of perec. Was it to listening to this. Show one of the few potential justifications left forum is the argument that even without being true they can encourage people to do the right thing. Sure it may be a lie. But it's ally that tells people do love their neighbor and treat others the way that they would like to be treated now to be clear even if it were true that would be terrible justification but as bad as that justification is turns out. Religions can actually do that shit anyway and we're being reminded of that daily as we watch religious leaders the world over desperately trying to rein in their own stupid long enough to get people back sonate. When mormon leadership issued a statement last thursday reminding their members the importance again the job. The response was an uproar against the leadership. But they've suddenly fifty percent of practicing mormons refusing to get vaccinated so it's moral fucking imperative to change their minds and yet the poor of twelve apostles was completely useless and swaying their opinions keeping my by mormon mythology. These people are prophets seers revelers special witnesses of jesus christ himself and yet they were unable to move the needle on vaccines and move the needle for. That's pretty good and and that's hardly unique. Hell is not even the best example right. None other than the god. Damn hope has been screaming himself. Horse for months about the importance of getting vaccinated yet. I've got stories here out of north carolina and colorado about catholic churches handing out a free religious exemption vaccination with every magical cracker. The pope is supposed to be the goddamn direct successor of saint peter and small detail. Here in fucking fallible. The religion is built around the idea that this guy is physically incapable of being incorrect and yet even catholic priests are rejecting his authority for the sake of promoting their anti bax message. Now to be fair. There's some evidence that religious leaders are able to make a difference here especially with communities of color a recent survey by. Pri showed at least a nominal decreased in the so-called back seen hesitancy that they could attribute a religious messaging among hispanic catholics and black protestants. But even that meagher. Victory pales in comparison to the effectiveness of doctors on the same group of people. The survey after survey shows that for pretty much every category of people regardless of their religiosity. The authority most likely to change their minds on. Vaccines is a doctor now at madison as their area of expertise. So you might think that's irrelevant to the larger discussion. Of course people are more likely to trust the medicine expert on matters of medicine. They're also probably more likely to trust the religion expert matters of religion and that may be true. But it's worth noting that doctors never had the lie to get. Their doctors didn't have to say that their patients were immortal. Or pretender dead. Pets were waiting for them in the bonus stages or offer up some contrived meaning for their existence to earn their trust. Doctors managed to gain it just by telling them the truth even when the truth was fucking brutal and if you think about it it should seem obvious that making your living lying to people as a terrible way to instill trust you know. All religion ever told anybody is what they wanted to hear. How the hell is that gonna prime them for hard truths. It's like sorry to show my gen exodus here but you remember that simpsons episode. Were trying to convince the dog trainer that santa's little helper is trained by shoutout retroactive commands. Like go over there and sniff that dogs but you know in the cartoon bart wasn't able to convince the trainer but in the analogy religious leaders were able to convince them selves. The dog was trained. I think about that so like religious. When you die you level up when you go to paradise and everybody's like becher as we do hell. Yeah and then. He had an older people. You don't like that fuck over major. Feel silly for believing that they all go to turtle torture land and everybody was like hell. Yeah i like this guy and then he said and the guy who fashioned the universe because he knew you were gonna need a place to put your stuff eventually any loves you and he looks after you and he has a special plan that you play an important role in in the crowd said mommy mommy can we keep them and the religious idiots out there thinking. Wow i can convince these guys anything. Meanwhile the whole time science just told the damn truth and keeping minded as tough with truth as there is no afterlife. And you're just a mutated. Monkey are there all the harder when they have to compete with religions untethered bullshit but since science kept megan iphone spaceships and stuff. Even the religious people decided to keep him around though they continued to ignore all the dismal shit they had to say about you know mortality in random chance and what we inadvertently created or advertently created. I don't know was a system where those inclined to only hear the answers they wanted could switch back and forth between science and religion as they needed more and more in fact that came to define religion's role in society. Some of the questions. We asked have really scary answers that people would rather not dwell on so religion's role increasingly became coming up with easy satisfying and ideally untraceable. Answers to saab in when you didn't like the answers that science gave you turned to religion now. The idea was that the questions. We'd be subbing in religious answers for we're moving to center around death and what comes afterwards but apparently the american rate is so full a snowflakes that answers like yeah man you gotta get the fuck and shot enough to trigger the backup plan. And that's where we are now when the religious leader says change your mind on vaccines. The people change their mind on religious leaders. And why the fuck wooden bay when the guy whose job is to tell you what you want to hear doesn't tell you what you want to hear why the hell wouldn't fire him talking.

The same job is garbage workers, and so they want the same pay. Is Cara seven's Deborah Horn. I mean, we do all the work if we don't pick up a can not nobody gets paid. Is that what the company really wants? Michael Retail, Gonzales has worked nearly 50 years in the trash business, nearly two thirds of that time for Republic services. But in 2009 when Republic lost a contract, he was forced to switch from collecting garbage. To recycling and took a pay cut to he and his fellow drivers voted to strike if they don't get what he describes as a decent contract, one that is in part with the contract that The other workers on the industry have who are doing the same work as we are. That's always going to say, Are you doing the same kind of? Absolutely, Absolutely. So we're talking about Hundreds of dollars of value every month. John Searcy, secretary treasurer of Teamsters, Local 1, 17 says the workers believe they should be paid equitably. I don't believe the two people should be working side by side with the same requirements, qualifications, expectations on the job and getting paid less in each other. There's there's nothing worse in the garbage strike. That's when you figure out who was a really important workers are in society when they stop picking up the garbage. And I gotta tell you my garbage bin is what maybe a half of the quarter of the size of my recycling bin. I mean, I know I can go without them picking up the garbage for maybe a week, but the recycle Uh, that's out of control man for us is neither with the two kids.
