"Tourists on welcome to America first. Thank you for having me. So much to discuss, your sister told me you love to talk, so this will not be a difficult interview. She said, I said, these are the questions I want to ask, what else should I ask that? You don't need any more questions. He loves to talk. Tell me about this gun that has taken the industry by surprise, looks very different, shoots very different and apparently has a very different internal mechanism. Tell us about the 5. Well, the 5, first of all, we nicknamed it the Mona Lisa as we were developing it over 7 years. It has a patented recall system, basically what it does without getting into all the science of it. It changes the way the gun has a recoil and how it absorbs into the body. So that it is a more manageable recoil, more straight back than up and down, like a flip, you know, with your cadence and stuff like that for your second shot. It's much easier to keep your optics and your gun on target and go for that second, third, fourth, 5th, 6th, tenth shot, you know, as quickly as possible. And of course, the trigger system in there is a single action trigger with a 1911 grip, so it points true, not like some other striker fires out there or something like that. And when I say striker fire, it's because it looks like it's a striker fire. But it's got a hammer inside, right? So it's got a much better trigger. Oh yes, internal hammer fired. It comes with about a 5 pound trigger, but it feels like it's one.

"So this is argument that's breaking out over Who said what about the vaccine and I don't know I found the whole thing to be a little strange to be honest with you You probably know what I'm talking about if you're on social media a lot And it's conservatives and you're like oh I thought I thought I didn't fight what this I said that and I'm pretty sure my stance on the vaccine early on that never never changed But I don't want to be kind of sure I want to be a 100% sure So I'm going to ask you for a favor If you have the time you all work for a living obviously But I have I have P ones inside a P one I mean die hard listeners who've been with me from the beginning we've heard every show Audience archive is Judy comes to mind who knows my show better than I do If you get a minute and you have a good search feature if I said anything other than I took the vaccine because of this whole cancer thing I was going through And then I was afraid but you need to make your own choices and talk to your doctor If I said anything other than that then that anything And recommended this Then I need to know about it because I need to expose myself Again I'm almost a 100% sure I did not But there seems to be a lot of now backtracking on this A lot of people in the conservative space who you know we're telling other people to take this thing and I've laid out my positions The greatest regret of my medical life is having taken this vaccine or I was one of the first people to get it in Florida because of the condition I had at the time my immune system was wiped out And within days of getting the second shot within days I immediately regretted it I did I just did I knew I had done something out of fear and not something out of common sense

And you might be vaccine skeptical and not be vaccinated, good for you, whatever your choice is, you made it as a free American and I blessed you for it. I've had two shots and three boosters, and I haven't gotten COVID yet, and I hope I don't ever get it, but I know one thing. Many people are very successful to it if they're older. And if they have an underlying condition, and China is the nothing to prepare their population except these extreme lockdowns.

Phil Kerpen: mRNA Technology Raises Lots of Questions
"Well I think that the main advantage of the mRNA technology had is that it could be scaled up for a hue for the manufacturing could be scaled up to produce an enormous number of doses very quickly which would have been more difficult but the other vaccine platforms And so I think it was selected Principally for practical reasons in terms of manufacturing and delivery more so than it being the best platformer technology to actually make the most effective vaccine And maybe in retrospect that was a mistake Ironically one of the supposed great advantages of it is that they would be able to update it very easily and very quickly and instead of took them forever to update it and the virus has already changing again So that advantage wasn't really borne out But this is a technology that had never been commercialized before There have been a lot of research on it And nobody really knew what the duration of protection would be And because we were doing trying to get this through as quickly as possible get it available to people as quickly as possible We thought this thing would be like one shot or two shots and you'd be protected the rest of your life It seems like it's more like you're protected for a few months And then the question is are people really going to do it two three four times a year and what are the consequences of that going to be Because that had never been tested the repeated application So it raised a lot of questions I think that maybe if we add it all to do over again we would have taken a more traditional approach with a live attenuated or an inactivated vaccine or something like that But remember we've never had a vaccine for any coronavirus before And so the idea that there was some way to do it that would have worked better Who's to say that we would have had anything at all if we had pursued a different path I think the other challenge here Dan is if you're not one of the big guys if you don't have the stroke to get things through at FDA it's almost impossible to navigate that bureaucracy And so what might have otherwise been the best technology which is the novavax protein platform They couldn't get their manufacturing facility approved for like a year and a half while these other ones were moving through because they didn't partner with one of the big guys

And you also notice a nearly invisible hatch that almost looks like the door to a cuckoo clock directly above the door. It's not open now, but with a 24 you can see that it might be some sort of security system. Okay. All right, should we just have cartridges? Oh, there was a slot, right? Oh, yeah. What do we have? We have tear egg dactyl. Oh, we have a jet pack. We have, what are the three egg eighths? And let's create egg. So I sort of think like canon and swords sound like zoo would like attack us, right? While you're thinking about this, you also look in the back of the game gear and you see that there is another cartridge in there. Okay. Oh shit. But this cartridge is just the botman cartridge. So Alex, when you're up in the air, you don't even have to make a perception check. You fly high into the air with nothing. The zone around you seems to be deserted, but at the edge of the horizon, you glimpse a flash as the sunlight reflects off of this huge metal structure in the distance, which without a doubt you know is metal city. And as your eyes focus more as you're doing multiple flips with the baby. You see in the foreground, a two tailed fox fighting for his life against three spike covered silver robots. Okay, I land and then go do my power up and then say, oh, I almost forget to say your two del fox is fighting for his life. What? My little buddy? He's in a real pickle in a bind. We gotta go. Yeah. People in fact. Oh, all of us are just you, 'cause you said you were gonna look we had to go through the power up. We were gonna do the computer. We're gonna take we'll smash and crab game. We gotta go. You see sonic takes off and gestures for you to follow. So let me explain what's in the monitors for you real quick. Okay. Three options. There's the gold ring. The red shoe and the stars. What does everybody want? I take the gold ring. Okay. I think I take a stars. Nice. Niac is not wearing shoes. Maybe they'll come in handy. I'll go with red shoes. And if you manage to do a successful dexterity save, you will regain the rings and can prevent damage again. Sweets. The way it works specifically is you'll do a D.C. 25 deck save to grab the rings after being hit, but you can add the number of rings you have to your bonus on a success you're able to grab half the rings you had rounded down. Sweet. Cool. The red shoes instantly cast haste for 1D four rounds, no side effects. Awesome. So just roll the D four to see how many rounds they only work in combat though. And the stars are invincibility for one day four rounds of three rounds. I think we can all agree that I got the best one. Cool. It almost had like two like a jetpack sort of thing fused to its back. They were all modded out. Okay, I cast freedom of movement on myself. Because I do that at will because elder Jen vocations. Are they one use shoes? I won't be able to use them again after this battle. They'll burn up after the battle. Okay. Great. But I have them on right now. Right, you have them on, but it's like it's honestly like bed of zip skip boots, you gotta activate them. Okay. But that's I'll let you do that as a free action. Great. "The pilot is just screaming. I can feel the teeth in the back of my brain. What? This is just a normal human who has not made for interdimensional travel, so like he's doing constitution checks and he is failing miserable. Alex doesn't understand that it looks at niac and says take care of you. Yes, he's ruining my brother's sugar ray experience. He's trying to be immersed in sound, sir. I've existing in two places at once. So the pilot passes out from the stress. Onyx, of course, Lance the plane beautifully. You touch down in an area known as the green hill zone. Above you, palm trees sway as a gentle breeze. Russell's the grass on the titular hills for which the zone is named. And of course, as the wind hits your noses, you smell hints of chili dog and see a large, dark plume rising from the valley beyond. According to his message, that location, where you're seeing the smoke rising, is where you're supposed to meet keychain for the great feast of critter mus. So you're on the ground, you're in the green hill zone, critters hollow is just right over that hill. What would you like to do? There's smoke. Smoke like fun barbecue or smoke like the town is on fire. Why don't you give me a perception check? I will also do this. Okay, great. That's a 9. 9. Niaga take a Gander. Okay. That is an 11. Naya got a 16. Great, so Jin's starts climbing the hill and is wearing high heels and trips. Onyx trips over gyms and then both of them create kind of a humanoid tower for niac to scramble up so you can look over the hill. I protect myself from getting hurt during this with the moon of corn baby swaddled. You brought nothing? Oh. Oh, wow. Thank God I am not wearing shoes. I am babysitting. So obsidian or obsidian. Obsidian is not here. Oh, a hog a day date. It is criteria after all. So were babysitting obsidians. That's so nice. Great. So you have nothing obsidian's moon Akorn baby with you in a Bjorn or maybe a mobi or maybe an ergo? I don't know whichever carrier you desire. I sweat though. Right, this is a fresh baby. It needs a swaddle to call. It doesn't even have a horn yet. It just looks like a tiny horse. Disgusting. It might get its own today. Oh my God, it gets it all in one day. We're on horn watch. It's very painful. That's where they learn to speak as well. Their voices is a primal shriek from the first time they horn. Onyx, go ahead and roll a constitution check for nothing with disadvantage to see if that horns popping through. Oh. A three and an 8. 30. Yeah, you see that nothing. Nothing is just snuggled up close to you. I'm not seeing any horn. Barely even a nub on nothing. Okay. So while you're distracted by looking at nothing and checking their soft spot to see if a horn's gonna burst out of it. You see niac crest the hill, and as you do niac, you are greeted by a nightmare. Below in the valley are the charred remnants of a great outdoor feast. Hot dog buns are scattered everywhere. In the center of the scene, a large fire consisting of tables, chairs, and the ceremonial critters cactus burns brightly. And nearby an overturned vat of Chile, you see the charred remains of what.

"No. Does everyone excited for a little career must adventure? I haven't even made it through one of the adventure books without dying, so I gotta think that sonic is not gonna be good for me. I'm half excited. I'm trepidatious. I've never seen one of these books before, but it's reputation as caught up to me anyway. Yeah, well, before we begin, I should explain that this session is based on metal city mayhem, a sonic adventure gamebook written by James Wallace. We played through it a few times on our old podcast 8 bit book club, and now I have translated the adventure into 5 years in the hopes that we can finally defeat it. So I think she's going to meet dancer? Yeah, at least at least Jen's is strong. The sonic. Oh my God, the mechanics of these adventure books are insane. If you've ever listened to us play through it, it's literally like they set up a whole thing where you get rings and you have lives, but then also you can just get a game over forever. You'll just be like, I think you're right. I think this is our chance. This is our chance. Yeah. Right, because now sonic doesn't have magic, but you have magic, so I think that might help. It's gonna say sonic can't fucking dimension doors. But before we get to the adventure, we should introduce ourselves proper. "It with your parents at home. Yeah, the holidays are dead. It's only the hedgehog days do not explain it to your parents. It gets worse the more you hear it. It just feels like there's extra letters in there. And hogla days. Yeah, it's just that extra G that really just does a lot of work in there. So as I mentioned, it is critters in trin avail, the holiday where the critters of the world host feast for all their humanoid neighbors. And this year our heroes, the trivial triplets, are spending it in the place where the hedgehog days all began. A shutter. A grow stronger every time I over pronounce the G, happy hour glitz, everybody. It's best said with a big mouthful of eggnog, so you can just go hitch all of this. This year, the treadmill triplets are spending it in the place where the hedgehog is all began. The pocket dimension of Mobius. No, no. You see? After saving the world, the trio's robotic companion keychain. Ah, there we go. So called because you can shrink into a portable keychain form. It all ties together. It's so tight, it's fucking tight, Caldwell. Don't try to poke a hole in this shit, man. It's a wiffle ball. The holes are there on purpose. Keychain moved here to live amongst his people in the robotic capital of circuitry or as it's more commonly known, metal city. "In controlling this pandemic everywhere. Now know the some world leaders who say america shouldn't get a third shot until other countries got their first shot. I disagree. We can take care of america and health world the same time dr best. The last time we spoke on the show about the pandemic was during the former president's tenure when you know we were all guaranteed to feel confused about this pandemic. That was a confusing president. We had back then. President biden is certainly a less confusing pandemic president but this booster shot thing this new approach. It's not the clearest strategy. Can i ask you back in january. Twenty twenty one when biden took office with vaccines about to go out to the masses. What did you think we'd be by september. you know. I think when when i was asked that question at that time and as vaccines were were rolling out. I was envisioning a fall. That's very different. I was envisioning a fall where where kids could go back to school. In a way that they could be kids and wouldn't have to worry about these sorts of things in the same way that hasn't happened for a number reasons. I'm thrilled that. We have a big focus on keeping kids in school. Learning because that's critically important in last year was devastating for children. So i'm i'm thrilled. That the efforts are really focused on keeping children in school. But i hope that we would have come together more as a nation that we would have seen that viruses. Don't care about political party they don't care about racer ethnicity. They don't care about what country you're you're from and that we would come together and tackle this in a more unified way. It's a bit pollyanna ish in every public health response.

"The pandemic on independence day. If we do our part we do this together by july the fourth. There's a good chance you your family's and friends will be able to get together in your backyard or in your neighborhood and have a cookout or barbecue and celebrate independence day. Is this new plan in acknowledgement that that prior approach just failed. Yeah even earlier than that of the administration. The president was saying that there would not be federal mandates. And i think that you have to continually let people know that you're dealing with a situation of incredible uncertainty and that as you learn as situation changes the guidance that you provide will change. You'll need to set that up as an upfront expectation. And reinforce it every time if you don't do that then whenever there's a change whether it's a change to say now we're recommending masks. Now we're requiring masks now. You don't need to wear masks. it's gonna come off like you don't know what you're talking about. Rather than the fact that you're responding to a new situation and new science. The president's decision to now mandate is a re reflection on where we are as a nation and the fact that in in many states the states that have been hit hardest with his new surge. They have the lowest vaccination rates in the country. I will say that he was channelize. Channeling the frustration that millions of people across this country are feeling who were vaccinated. That many governors elected officials have also shared Their frustration over. Now if i'm not mistaken there is this vaccine mandate which is controversial which is sure to get challenged in the courts. But there's also this option to not get the vaccine but be tested. Weeklies that right there is for for the employer group. There's not for the federal worker group and the logistics the details on this having been spelled out what type of testing how frequently the testing will need to be done. Who's paying for the testing how that's being reported even with mandates that we don't have some of the systems in place in our country that would make it easier for these to be used. We don't have a national vaccine registry. We don't have a vaccine passport something that you could show that that certifies that you're you're fully vaccinated. Each state is figuring out This out on their own and it would definitely be helpful if there were national tool if a majority of the unvaccinated employees of organizations with a hundred plus people decide. Well i'm not going to get the vaccine. But i'll do this testing thing. I guess because i have to for my job will this plan. Will this push have failed. I don't think that's going to be the case here. There eighty million people the ministration reports that are in the group that are eligible to be vaccinated and haven't done so. Some of these are younger. People under between twelve twelve and eighteen But in that workforce group. I think we're going to see some movement. I think we're going to see people rolling up their sleeves and getting vaccinated and if we don't if we we see a lot of people opting for testing testing programs can be effective. If they're done very well they can help. Ensure that you're not allowing.
