That was John embryo's call of the grade one sword dancer this past August 27th for the second consecutive year, the winner was the Christophe Clement trainee goof of going off at a very generous price Dave of almost four and a half to one, and that's because he was riding a three race win streak into this year's sword dancer. He had lost in the grade one man of war lost in the grade one Manhattan lost in the great one United Nations, but I know you thought that the sword dancer was the day that he was going to turn it around. What is it about goof O that you saw and that you love this day? Just a really finicky horse or really particular horse who happens to like Saratoga and I don't know if it's the track or it's the way the course is utilized at a mile and a half, meaning it's a three turn race for whatever reason goof O not nearly as good at two turns than three turns and if you look back at the PPs, you find an occasional wind that's not around three turns Saratoga or at Belmont, but that's really where goof O has been at its best and that day kind of everything worked out. It made a great deal of sense. You had to be really patient. I wasn't that patient because I bet on goof off a couple of times prior to that race when I thought, okay, well, this is a field that goof off should be or maybe goofball will find a way because I think gupo is really quality horse. But when it came down to it, three turns Saratoga was hitting goof off right between the eyes and got the job done, paid a really nice price. And to me, that makes it very memorable. Anytime that you line your wallet with a horse that you really kind of like you had in affinity for and you recognize the right spot, that's a good day at the race track. Yeah, $10 and 80 cent wind mutual on goofy in the sword dancer. It actually run two more times before the end of 2022 and didn't win either of those races, but he got the job done when he needed him back in the sword dancer. I'm going to bet more of that day so I'm going to put more time into my handicapping New Year's Eve had won his first two races at fairgrounds against kind of subpar competition. And then ran third in a stakes race, but a fairly low level type stakes race stakes debut. And I went back and I watched the race and it was one of the worst trips I have ever seen. New Year's Eve ended up on the wrong rail down the stretch got pinned in. If it could go wrong, it went wrong. And I remember telling several people going into Derby day, I go, I don't know if this horse is good enough. But you can not in any way, shape or form, look at the last race and go. Well, in a black type snakes race at fairgrounds in his stakes debut, nowhere close to good enough. So how can he beat these horses? They said the first two races looked really good and the last race is a complete draw line through forget about it to the worst trip I've ever seen. I liked mikula. But McCulloch was two to one in new Year's Eve was 15 to one. And when New Year's Eve emerged down the stretch, I was a very happy camper. New Year's Eve getting the job done paying $31 and 20 cents to win. So I guess if there's a long story short from that story is that if you're willing to put the time in, there's a chance you could find something that you wouldn't find at first glance when you're looking at the past performances. You are willing to put the time in that day. It probably will affect your handicapping, going forward, knowing that, hey, if I dig a little deeper, I may find something that I wasn't going to see at first glance. I all I have to do is think back to New Year's Eve and the run that she made for Brendan Walsh and Louis syes on that first Saturday in May in 2022. She wins the edgewood.
