"Your <Speech_Male> fucking mindset every <Speech_Male> day get yourself <Speech_Male> pumped up <Speech_Male> with your favorite music <Speech_Male> before your sales calls <Speech_Male> or your videos <Speech_Male> do everything in your power <Speech_Male> to increase <Speech_Male> your natural enthusiasm <Speech_Male> and you <Speech_Male> will make a better first impression <Speech_Male> on your mindset. <Speech_Male> Listen to some good music. <Speech_Male> Get yourself in <Speech_Male> the right fucking place <Speech_Male> so that you can show <Speech_Male> up like naturally <Speech_Male> more enthusiastic. <Speech_Male> Not like over the <Speech_Male> top boisterous like <Speech_Male> obviously bullshitting <Speech_Male> but increasing <Speech_Male> your natural enthusiasm. <Speech_Male> We'll make a massive <Speech_Male> difference on that <Speech_Male> initial three second impression. <Speech_Male> Because if i watch <Speech_Male> your instagram stories. And i'm <Speech_Male> boorda's bucks or your <Speech_Male> prospects if you <Speech_Male> watch your instagram stories <Speech_Male> and your boorda's fuck <Speech_Male> sawyer prospects <Speech_Male> so increasing <Speech_Male> your natural enthusiasm <Speech_Male> so almost like you're <Speech_Male> you're like a character <Speech_Male> that people wanna watch <Speech_Male> and when i say natural enthusiasm <Speech_Male> for <Speech_Male> me obviously you guys <Speech_Male> see. I'm like a low. <Speech_Male> I'm a little bit of an <Speech_Male> energetic person. <Speech_Male> But i've seen some <Speech_Male> coaches be extremely <Speech_Male> successful with <Speech_Male> a lower energy <Speech_Male> tone but they're increasing <Speech_Male> their natural enthusiasm <Speech_Male> so i'm not saying. Do you <Speech_Male> need to show with energy like <Speech_Male> me. But i'm saying that <Speech_Male> whatever. Your normal <Speech_Male> energy is at <Speech_Male> increased by two <Speech_Male> points when you go <Speech_Male> on live or video or <Speech_Male> call and it will make a <Speech_Male> big difference makes sense <Speech_Male> cool. So <Speech_Male> guys <Speech_Male> the summary. This <Speech_Male> three second rule is <Speech_Male> a snap judgment <Speech_Male> that we make when <Speech_Male> we first meet somebody <Speech_Male> and whether or not <Speech_Male> we're aware <Speech_Male> of this it's <Speech_Male> happening and so <Speech_Male> we would all like <Speech_Male> to say like oh. I'm <Speech_Male> not judgmental. But as <Speech_Male> soon as you see somebody <Speech_Male> your subconscious gives <Speech_Male> you up signal. <Speech_Male> It's either yes or no <Speech_Male> and so if you wanna <Speech_Male> make more <Speech_Male> yeses from <Speech_Male> your prospects is <Speech_Male> to your content you're paid <Speech_Male> your message and your sales calls <Speech_Male> then <Speech_Male> cure four different ways <Speech_Male> to prevent you from turning <Speech_Male> prospects off <Speech_Male> all right. These are gonna make <Speech_Male> a massive difference number. <Speech_Male> One is look good. Feel <Speech_Male> good play. Good stop <Speech_Male> treating your business like <Speech_Male> a hobby and start treating <Speech_Male> your business like a business. <Speech_Male> Show up <Speech_Male> ready to work number to <Speech_Male> upgrade the quality <Speech_Male> photos like <Speech_Male> you can get somebody

"Is to drink your water tip number two is to track your macro hit number three etc etc right so most online coaches are very good at writing generic posts. But if you're the women's weight loss coach then you need to be writing posts to women and the same post as an example would be like three tips to help you stay titan tone even with a busy schedule number one sometimes other things get in the way like kids going to school like running around taking care of the house and so you don't have time for your workout so short affect the work can be really number two drinking water super important because it's really hard to lose a southern mid set bub-bubba so you need to talk specifically to the women right. You need to say ladies in your posts. Your profile needs to resonate so you should have content that speaks specifically to women's weight loss. You should also have female transformations all over your page. The colors of your page should also have a feminine tone to them and the photos that you get taken should resonate with women as an example if you are a male and you are looking to work with women on their weight loss goals. If you're taking photos with your shirt off flexing like this do you really think that that's going to resonate with women. And i feel like that's common sense but not coming practice in fact. I know that there are some women's weight loss coaches that are listening to this right now. That are posting like chess workouts on their instagram as dudes. And i'm like what are you doing. That's not what your women wanna see like your women don't want to see that and even if it's a part of the program like you need to be writing content that women want to see if you want to track women and you want to improve that three second impression so that way. When a woman comes to your profile she scrolling through and she sees the feminine tone. She sees content speaking right tours. She sees fema transformation. Now you've got a really good. I three second impression and now that like that's going to impact her bind decision or even her decision to stay on your profile. Follow you start engaging with content. Does that make sense so number. Three's to make sure your profile resonates cool and last and certainly not least. We're going on a number..

"You've got your ringlets on the lighting is good. It makes a really big difference in your videos and your photos so invest in a ring. Light you guys you can go and you can buy it on amazon between twenty and two hundred dollars but that shit will matter because when somebody's scrolling cross your feed. If you got like a dark mood all your photos because you haven't taken anything professional right. Because you're taking photos in the dark. Like fucking batman urbane and you've got all your ship was turned off on your hibernating in the dark like that will make an impression on your prospect and it makes a difference longterm invest in a ring like going amazon between twenty and two hundred dollars. It will make a massive difference in your photos number three. And this is for those guys that if you're making between two and five came month this is a non-negotiable higher photographer and do some shoots guys. You can get a photographer that will do a shoot for you for like two hundred.

"Impression on others for better for worse that makes sense that means when prospects come across your social media instantly they get an impression and they make a snap judgment and that's snap judgment will affect whether or not that prospect purchase off of you. Is that make sense. Which means you have an impression on all of your prospects and when your prospects come near page instantly they make a snap decision about you and it's either a good decision or is not a good decision. Does that make sense. Then when that prospect watches one of your videos instantly they get an initial impression and that impression will impact their buying decision then when that prospect gets on the phone with you for a finished consultation instantly they get an initial impression. How many guys ever picked somebody called you or you call somebody else. And they picked up the phone and instantly. You're like oh this isn't going to be a good conversation like you can. Just tell you i can tell by their tone that they're fucking i can tell. This isn't going to be a fun conversation your prospect that to you guys. it's called. it's called the three second rule. It's called the initial impression. It's called the snap decision that we are making. As soon as we end up reaching out we make snap decisions. That's what this is. We're making snap decisions at all times. So once we understand that we can either have a positive impression on our prospects or a negative first impression on her prospects then we can start to modify some of our behaviors to give a better impression to have that impression on our favorite and that means like basically what. I want to help you guys doing this. Podcast is give you more of the. I really fucking like that guy impression. Or i really fucking that girl impression. Does that make sense. It's almost like this. What i'm talking about here are things that are common sense. Not common practice right. It's like this makes sense but how much of us how many of us are actually practicing this here. Four different ways. That you guys can help improve that first. Three second impression all right so number one. Write these down. Look good feel good play. Good write that down. Look good feel good play. Good guys all of us is online coaches. Want to be taken seriously enough. That prospects pay thousand dollars on the coaching program. Right like all of us will to get to a point. Where like get on the phone..

"A thousand dollars screen shot any podcast episode. Cheer instagram stories tag. Me mark fit. So that that the tuning in i. I like giving away fucking money to my listeners. I think it's fine. I like to give away money because like you guys are supporting me and the podcasts would literally be nothing if i didn't have your ears and so to show my gratitude. I'm giving away some fucking money now today. We're gonna be talking about the three second rule. I know what's the three seconds rule. Three second rule is so important. That if you don't listen to it you risk turning prospects off before you even have a conversation with them. The three second rule is so important that you risk losing potential clients if you're not aware of how to turn this in your favor and the three seven rule is so important that if you don't understand the three second rule it's likely that you will never get your business ten thousand dollars a month but for those guys. That are tuning in that. Want three second rule that are going to start to implement it. You're going to start become a magnet to your ideal client. You guys are going to get more people that will reach out to you because of your content and you'll feel better overall you'll feel happier. You'll feel healthy and you'll feel stronger. Fundamentally you guys once you really understand the three second rule the way that i'm going to talk about him podcast. Today you are going to become more successful life in general okay so i think for online trainers like for me. I think the goal for us is to. We want our business to get to a point. We have potential clients that are literally reaching out every single day asking for how we literally have. People that are like in our inbox. Inbox messaging us asking us for help. We want to get on calls with clients and we want them to sign up on the fucking call. Not tomorrow not next week. We want to get to sign up on the call..

Race Walking 101 With U.S. Olympic Trials 20K Race Walk Champion Robyn Stevens

"I'd love to do a little race walking one. Oh one with you. Because i think there are a lot of Pretty widely misunderstood. I think a lot of people look at race walking. No it's just fast walking or it's slow running and it's neither of those You are doing you know. You mentioned coming in for the twenty k. Around one thirty five. That's a seven forty per mile pace. That is faster than i run. Most days it's faster than a lot of people run. it's also. There's a lot of technique required. It's not just walking faster So i would love if you could do some like race walking one. oh one what. Don't people understand about your sport. Well i definitely know the difference between running and walking. Because i was a runner and i was a dancer. So there's there's there's significant differences so it's definitely not a slow run for some training days my job my cool so my coach will call it the Whenever he puts down like to cater genitive regenerative means jog So that's the time that i get to break form jog. And sometimes my job is slower than my than my cooled. Race walk Which is pretty interesting to me. Amusing me just from given my background with my running and stuff but the biggest Perception is just I mean we do have a technique that we have to follow. There's two rules You have to land with the straight Knee and then that has to stay Straight until it passes underneath the hip and then you know always have to have one foot on the ground at all times by the judges. I and that's what a lot of people don't understand is they might see might slow down videos or they might see pictures where they see you like both feet to slightly off the ground especially in the fast races like if you watch melrose or if you watch us in like three k. Or or when we are going quite a bit faster during our twenty ks at you know going at six thirty. Six forty pays or Seven forty seven thirty pacer faster At its but the knicks. Actually better but this question. Because he'll he'll have like the exact point whatever it is but there's a certain amount that the i can't see and so that's why it's by the judges

"So he's going to try to like minimize what it looks like or like you know. Put take off the little play and use one of his hands to like block. His mouths selena's scare people. He's a very polite polite ungloved. He's aware of the effect he has on others. A lot of people aren't into it but some people some people are yeah. It's like another one of those things where it's just like you know you know that. I know that you know that. I can't remember which way conversation ghost but he has it. He needs it so we're off loves coffee. As as i mentioned in the previous episodes he's all about this cafe citrus experiment experience. Yeah for sure so zoro. Can you make me a sense. I would be happy to my. I don't ever make sense higher. It's like i got no sense. Oh my god. I got a black shit. Oh god do. This is my die now. This is like the lucky one up died by this day. Die weather day. I hope that's foreshadowing lit. Die tomorrow never so with the blackjack sense check he. You notice and recognize that the person who serves you the coffee. One isn't your waiter but you also recognize them as a gilded lions informant. Perfect planning on going to meet with them but now they're going to think of avoiding them maybe he kinda like looks down at you. And he gives you like a nod of standing and then he walks away. Are we getting our costs. You're not then if he's not even aware waiter he's he's at the coffee down. Yeah he set the coffee down. How the fuck did he get it. Weird if he's not a waiter you. I mean he's dressed like one. Oh the way the way you said that differentiation sar. You didn't notice that he's different but like you kind of look over as the coffee is set down. And he's in the same uniform so you don't think anything of it. I telepathic communicate with the waiter. I have a report. And i will be coming by after i get coffee with this old friend of mine. Thank you you hear back telepathically. I assume you're willing to receive his message. Of course yeah cool. No no way drove fucker away. Nobody head if you want me to hear your message. Asshole do not consent to this. The boss is looking to see you as quick as possible if you can make your journey quick or you're meeting quick will do come to the southern outpost. When you're finished i will and then he walks back inside again. Not taking your order. So i just look over to blair blair. That is an old friend of mine. i. I do have some business that i need to see to after we after we get coffee but i can meet up with you later if you would like. That's fine. I'll be around forbid i'm pretty sure i don't have any pressing deadlines i would bring you with me. But i don't think these are the type of people that you probably would like to meet. That's fine danger. I'm just gonna intelligence role. Here is my instinct. Correct that he probably would not want to meet the gilded lions. Well i mean you haven't had many negative experiences with them true but they're also kind of the mafia. I mean they're the mop. The i mean it could go either to be honest with you for the sake of like keeping him put safe and uninvolved in the dark on what. You're fucking doing. Sure if you wanna bring them with you. You don't necessarily think that's the worst decision ever. Okay blair i'll be up front with you that guy Works for the gilded lions which is basically the mafia here in early on. Do i know who they are though. You can make an intelligent My into nope nope unclear does not make sense. Okay yes because you're one of my friends. If you would like to accompany me when i go speak with them you can Be yes they do a lot of bad things so if you would like to do your own. That's cool is well. I just figured i'd send you the in flight. Since i'd i know quite well. who knows. Maybe it'll lead you to learning. Had an finding some new news or something. I don't know chevron for like a a gut check to go with absolutely roll like a. You could really sense check to either. Infer his words or get a feeling based on what he's telling you or you can roll a willpower check to kind. See what your gut is telling you at this moment. I'm going to go will okay. You'd like a knee jerk. Reaction took sure to our four two out of four You don't like the idea that he's involved with the mafia that's for certain but if he's working for them in they're just asking for information you don't see the harm in your you don't have enough information to be moved away from this being a bad a bad decision so to speak as not going with him. You mean or going with them if you go with him. You don't necessarily think it's bad for you. okay. I can't say i love that you're in league with an organization like that but i'll tag along right now danger. Is it likely that the guy that spoke with me telepathically is currently hearing my thoughts. Right now others a chance you might blur. I will tell you more about it later. The the gilded lions anyway but yes. If you if you'd like to accompany me maybe a new shine a new light on the city that we are in right now. Virtually on mr. My hometown is the town. It's a city it's steady okay. Cool i suppose. I didn't send you the map to this yet. So that also makes sense here in this town. My home city ver- leone my town. I mean i feel like i kind of wanted. Zora speech patterns to be kind of weird like he speaks common but he doesn't speak comment he only technically speaks common. Fuck this is a detailed he does. This smith took me forever to. It's like it's like mind. Speak common translated by technical like. He's not literally speaking attitude. This map is fucking ridiculous. It's so detailed. That's how you make a map guys.

"And you are diminishing finishing what you're up to. Who am I doing big? I mean I launched my podcast this Saturday. Which is pretty exciting for me? Congratulations this now. It's all good. It's just you know like there's that guilt factor. Talk to me about the guilt. Why why do you feel guilty? Because it feels distracting from them. And I'm the primary parent has been gone so much. Okay so it's me we don't like have nannies or babysitters I'm the regular really so okay. So you're at the point in this pursuit of building something. That's your own where you need help. That's what's happened and and the guilt is coming from the fact that you don't feel deserving of having somebody come in to watch the the kids while you pursue this thing for you yet because right now it's not monetarily bring in anything if your husband makes money right but like what. I'm doing it and bringing in money. Yeah good point so what does it does. It have to bring money to make you happy. No I love it. Yeah I mean I've had a I had a blog for like twelve years and no one read it until Janna posted that I had written a piece miscarriage in it just went crazy viral and I was like Oh like my sweet little web nest finally getting some attention you know. I don't do it to make money honestly I'm not. I'm not super motivated by money. I just always have had to make the money like in the previous marriage and my whole life to provide for myself and I didn't have a lot of help from parents or you know so so when you're here you're ready okay. You're reading at your seat wet match your seatbelt on saltwater happening here good get it out of there so He let strap on your seatbelt. Because here's the real issue so the real issue is that you have a pattern of behavior. You're and belief that no longer serves you For anybody on the planet that feels stock. If you're listening to US talk right now and you feel stuck. Here's the good news. The good news is all that's happening. Is there's a pattern of behavior pattern of thinking that somebody else trained you in. That comes from the past that you're repeating right now. Oh and it no longer works and the pattern of behavior that you have is I gotta do it on my own. Nobody's here to help. Yeah that really accurate and so the simple way to change this and it's a brand Iran News skill that you need to develop for yourself. Is You have to ask for specific help. That's it because if you don't break this pattern I can tell you what's going to happen. You're going to sit at home and have aspirations Sion's and continue to diminish your dreams and you're going to continue to tell yourself a lie. which is you don't deserve help unless you can pay for it yourself and then you're going to also secretly wish that your partner would notice and offer it up and the resentment in your site in you? Keeping this needs silent is going to build and build and build because we women love to pretend that our partners can read our minds and then we punish people when they can't and so all you need to do this is a really simple thing to change and it it will change everything because you want love your daughter till know that she doesn't have to do everything on our own. You want your daughter to know that she can ask for help and the only way she's GonNa Learn how to do that is by watching her mom do the same. We were all raised by mothers who didn't and ask for help. Which is why none of us do it? You can break that pattern and that cycle by going to your husband with a very specific request. There are three days a week that I need five hours out of the house. And what I WANNA do on those five hours are X Y and Z and he is offering that to. You won't accept it it now so I feel like I don't know where to send my copay to you for the session but you really are so enlightening you can send it to the universe. Because here's the thing like I. I feel like all human beings can be explained by one simple concept our brains loved learn patterns. And and so if you think you're unworthy if you think you're not good enough if you think you're unlovable if you feel guilt if you procrastinate. Those are just patterns and at somebody else's bowl bolt that they put in your mind a long time ago and when you identify that they're thinking patterns or behavior patterns like the one you have. I don't ask for help. I gotTa do it myself. When you identify a pattern once you see it you can change it and so your husband's already offered to help come up with? Here's here's the coaching. Come up with a very specific nick Ask about how you're GonNa Structure Week and then go to your husband. Say This is how it's going to go. This is what I'm going to do. And now you're in partnership around your dreams. Yes instead of you secretly building this big emotional distance and then how old is love for awesome. She's old enough to understand that. Mommy has things that mommy wants to do. And the way that you deal with your guilt is you know what you do. You thank your kids love today. Mommy gets to go and work on her her podcast. I WanNa thank you so much for hanging out with so-and-so today because mommy you know is going to go get to do something mommy loves and I love that you support me. And then she feels a part of it. Yeah she's I love. I love how yeah and I love how. You're saying like schedule schedule out like what you want. So you know what five four three two one you got this kristen. You're my soul mate. Go all right so kristen I WANNA make sure sure this landed so repeat repeat back for me and everybody listening Mel for President Twenty Two my God no just getting what because any functioning human being would be great and I don't happen to be one so that would be amazing so I want you to first of all tell me the big takeaway. The Big Aha that you've got a conversation conversation I need ask for help. And I've known this and I am not good at it but I'm going to become better at it. At great and asking for help is a skill it is and it's one you just need to develop that's it. There's no Mathu on any time you know if anybody does that. Sound like a solid got e girl. But I don't do enough for myself and people to help you like it's actually very selfish not to ask for help now. How do you get unstuck in a like? How did you in Chris get unstuck in your marriage? It was not easy for Chris and I to go through three or four years of turmoil where where I hated him for being failure and then where he hated me for being the one that was successful I might might as well have been an affair because emotionally. We were so devastating to one another and mean and just awful. Yeah so how'd you stop that behavior. How did you stop the resentment? Just the five four three five four three two one well because that takes lots of practice. It's like didn't seventy five times a day is what you gotta do. You gotta use it Because you know your instincts to want to kill somebody or use that tone of voice or cut them off at the knees and so when on the emotions rise up you five you count five four three two one two yourself and it gives you a moment of control to control what you do next and for me. It would be tough to remember to do do that. 'cause that's not the normal response right the normal responses to pop off right. Yeah and I think I. I think I'd struggle with that too and in our relationship as well like when I am triggered occurred. It's I want my. I don't take that minute to pause. Yeah it's five seconds five seconds 'cause 'cause that is definitely your heart can count like five four three two. Yes you can't and you don't have to say it out loud you can you. It is a moment where you're taking control cool and what happens in your mind is when you're about to pop off you're using the interior part of your brain where you're driven by automatic behavior by emotion an by anger by patterns when you count backwards five four three two one you interrupt those habit loops and you awaken your prefrontal cortex. That's the part of your brain that you're using when you're taking taking a test or learning new behavior when you're acting with courage when you're in control and so it's a cheat code that gives you immediate control over the part of the brain that you need In order to fix the situation. And so you know Christians GonNa need to do it. Five four three two one to ask for help and to break that pattern of beating yourself up feeling guilty and trying to do it all on her own and by asking for help you will improve your marriage because you are creating into intimacy and partnership and you're letting your partner in on your dreams and your allowing your partner to do what your partner wants to do which is to support you in a way. That's really of our yen said for Leslie Nights the whole biting your tongue when were quick to totally okay. I know you have to leave them out. I could live. Uh Let me talk about biting your tongue. You Ready Hours. Here's the thing about biting your tongue. Five four three two one bite. Your it's never at it the content of what you need to say that's true for you and your values edit the tone. Oh I like that. The hardest thing that I ever said to my husband was I. I don't believe in you. ooh ooh ow. I don't believe that you will ever be successful. Aw or be able to provide for this family and it scares the hell out of me and I'm angry. I think I even said I should married some guy in finance to really like Arnold dig it in there and he turned him in you know what he said. I know oh I know it. It was the turning point in our marriage because it was the most honest thing I had ever said to him. And when you get to that level of honesty that's when you can can start to rebuild because we have a habit in our most important relationships of lying of withholding of acting out of anger instead of having having the hard truth Conversations and for you the hard truthful conversation is. I thought I could do this. I WANNA try to do this but these are the line. These are the Ten Commandments. Sure and if they're broken what's changed as I'm out and we need to work together as we work on ourselves on how we are going to create that new reality and that working together pieces super important because whether the relationship goes the distance or it. Doesn't you have kids together. So you're going to be together forever anyway. And so working on honesty and working on respect and communication which is all driven by the courage to be honest. That's the foundation. You need to work on..

"Because it's that stuck feeling like what do what do you do now. You know I add this. I gotTa Lock my Mel You don't like locking it. Up is not working. Yeah I know it's just like years. Stay at home mom for four for years. But there's so much more so much more. So here's the thing that there's some sort of Gillis associated with that too is if the mother other isn't enough because I'm obsessed with these human beings probably like a really creepy degree that I've am raising you know so. Let me reframe this review. You're ready yeah you're not said you're here for a reason. Today I like instantly had tears and I was like probably gonNA cry. Well I'm here for a reason because where you're at in terms of the way that you're thinking about things is causing you emotional pain and it doesn't have to be that way what you're feeling in is what every single woman on the planet feels which is the real conflict between caretaking in an ambition and being ambitious somehow having the ambition in conflict with your role as a mother and as a wife. And what I want you to know is that you're not stuck what's happening is that you're really present to your ambition ambition. That's IT and there's nothing wrong and you had the greatest gift on the planet. which is you've been able to stay home with your kids and that's incredible and now what you need to know is that it's time to listen to that ambition? You're not stuck at all and here's something else. I WanNa tell you because I I've been married. Jeez what year we in twenty twenty twenty. You still married twenty four years. Yep I've been married twenty four years and I'll go back to the breadwinner winner. Resentment rage talk to you about like what Chris and I worked through because what happened in my marriage is when we were about fifteen years probably like twelve offers end. He had always been the primary breadwinner but his He had gone into the restaurant business. And we'd put our entire life savings into it and it went under or was going and under and we were eight hundred thousand dollars in debt. We had three young kids. The leans hit the house. The bankruptcy letters started to arrive. I ended up getting fired from my job. This was two thousand as an eight lousy year for everybody. Huge housing recession and I did what any functioning adult would do. When your life starts to go down the toilet? I started drinking like it was my job and because it's easier to of course numb your pain than it is to face it and I for six months straight would drink myself to sleep every night and then I would hit the snooze button five times in the morning and the kids would miss. The boss and Chris was already left the house because he didn't want to be in the house when I woke up because I was a raging bitch because it's easier to scream at them and get your own life together and I never thought at the age of forty one. This would be my life that I'd be on the verge of losing everything that I would be in the gutter that I would feel like the world's worst mother that I would not know how to pay for groceries. I was scared of the car's getting repossessed and I made a decision session in that moment. That's when I invented the five second rule The stories kind of crazy but I basically night was giving myself one of those pep talks that the two of you have probably probably in this moment of your life or giving you okay. I gotTa make a change. I got to do something different. I got like this isn't working but you don't know what to do. You're stuck but I was saying to myself gotta get out of bed. I gotta get out of bed and I see this rocket launch across the television screen and all of a sudden I go holy cow. That's the answer to getting out of bed. Because you know Janet Janelle you talk about crippling anxiety. That's why wasn't getting out of bed. The alarm ring and the first thing I would feel was anxiety and then the depression and then it was like one of those weighted blanket blankets of emotion. Bearing the alive in the bed and I'd hit the snooze button. I didn't have the resolve or the confidence to get up face my problems so it was easier just to hit the sues button but I see this rocket launch and I go. Whoa what if I launched myself out of bed so fast tomorrow morning I move before the anxiety kicks in? What if I'm out of bed before that weight of emotion and all of the fears trapped me there and so the next morning I just counted when the alarm went off like a rocket so stupid? Five four three two one and I stood up. And that's the that's the five second rule. That's all that it is. You count backwards five four three two one when you're doubting yourself when you're procrastinating when you you have anxiety it's the little push and it's actually a brain trick that at turns out to have a ton of science behind it that you can use to change any thinking pattern any behavior pattern pattern any aspect of your life and so how I used it to deal with the resentment that my husband had their the the resentment I had for my husband at that point and how I continued to use it to change my marriage and to change where my life was at when I felt so stuck. Is that anytime. There was something I needed to do whether it was not snap it Chris. I'd go five four three two one and just counting backwards switched gears in my brain settled my body and allowed me to talk to him from a place of my values instead of snapping animal. The time and five four three two one. I'm picking up the phone. I'm looking for a job. Five four three two one. If I'm feeling guilty guilty I say this is not serving them. Not GonNa feel guilty and I literally five seconds at a time. Decision by decision by decision changed the way I was thinking king and changed what I was doing. The entire trajectory of my life changed. Chris started using it in the restaurant. Business five four three two one. They're going back in to talk to their landlords. Five four three two one. They're laying people off five four three two one. They're meeting with investors and having the embarrassing conversations about where things are going with their business even though they wanna tell a different story Ori and slowly but surely everything changes now. I ended up sharing the five second rule in a Ted Talk I don't know how long ago was like ten years ago. Eight years. Whatever it's got twenty million views now and that's what led to my speaking career? People started right to me. That's what led to me writing a book about it even though I'm dyslexic as hell and that was a whole nother story but as my career took off you too and Chris stepped away from the restaurant business and I became the primary breadwinner. There is this totally dynamic in our relationship where I could tell. He secretly resented me and what we have unpacked in our marriage. Is that for men the pressure to succeed the profession the pressure to be professionally professionally successful the pressure to provide the professor the pressure to make money that is nonstop for dudes and when you start hurt to out earn them and they're the ones in the pickup line at school or they're the ones that are watching you on television or they're the ones that are being asked Oh wow mel milestone milestone Dynamo Janice Kellen it you know there's something that happens for their self confidence that they don't know how to resolve and they secretly secretly no longer see you as their partner they see you as a person that's making them feel demasked related and then when you come home because because you've been working all day and there's fricking dishes in the sink in the laundry is piled up and you're like what are you doing all day that makes it even worse and so they start to spiral title and so that's the dynamic I'm talking about and what we had to do in our marriage is talk about okay we're fifteen years in what are the roles we WanNa play in this next chapter and as it turns out this was the greatest gift on the planet for me and Chris Because Chris is the primary provider here in our household for emotional stability spirituality love consistency. He is a way better parent than I am No question and I used to be so pissed off because my ambitions. I was channeling and into him. Looking back every fight he and I ever had was was me driving my ambitions at a guy. That's not motivated by money. And the second I started making money I learned something about myself. I'm ambitious as hell and I love that and I love business and I love the game of making money and I love making a difference and I love building and that's amazing and I am at my highest when I'm out there building. Something and making an impact and Chris's at his highest purpose right now in his life when he is caring for our kids and carrying for our community and he had to do a lot of work to realize that that kind of providing is way more valuable and successful than any any amount of money in a bank account. And that's the kind of work that you need to do in your marriage if that resentment piece around your success versus his success your role in business business versus his opinion that you should be home more and he shouldn't be the one like that's all that's gotta get worked out DOC. If there's resentment in your marriage now i WanNa talk about the guilt that you feel having been a stay at home mom the number one thing you could do for your children is to follow your dreams. What is it that you want most for? Are Your children. Tell me Just freedom what does that mean really trying to be emotional. Don't stop that. Add like hard core of horror. Either I mean the reason I keep trying to build a brand on the side. It is Sorry is to like provide this idea tar daughter because I grew up with two or impairment. So I've always been an ass kicker I have had. I've had so many jobs since I was fourteen cleaning out mini. Refrigerators from my uncle's business at University of Michigan I mean let's talk about you know And I just want her name is love. I want love to see what a strong woman looks like. Yeah and WHO's GonNa show as as WHO's GONNA show my running well and so it's been building this like little bitty brand you know okay so first of all this..

"You know the for example like you said you had crippling anxiety like sometimes I feel like my anxiety takes over so much of my life and the things that I wanna do in my life because I'm too afraid to go in enjoy I'm too afraid to go to Fly a couple hours away to enjoy myself with some friends because I'm too afraid of XYZ or my kids or I'm going to have an anxiety attack. And I would if I pass out and it's like I live my life so fear based That's holding me back from so many things that I could be enjoying or I could be growing. Yes okay so couple things. Let's go deep you. You just said that you provide for your kids. So are you the primary breadwinner in your marriage. Yes welcome to the new reality. We're forty percent cent of the women who work are the primary breadwinners of their household and welcome to something that I call breadwinner resentment rage. And what that is is is. It's a dynamic. That's that's happening in primarily heterosexual relationships. It happened in my relationship when you start out. Earning owning your partner there is this whole DUP passive aggressive thing. That happens because I'm not saying that this is what's going on in your marriage. I know nothing about your marriage. I'm saying this is what happened in my marriage and this is what happens for almost every single woman that then hits that moment where you become the provider when it comes to you. Earning more money honey. There is a direct attack. Psychologically that your partner got undergoes because just like women this is so oh stop that. It's this way but for ever women have been told to be good girls and to look good and we're so hard on ourselves and on our bodies because does society is prioritized youth being thin looking good when it comes to being a woman for dudes. It's about being successful in providing and so the second that you're in a relationship where now according to culture you're the one that's providing for the family your husband your partner CNOR. This happened in my relationship to when I started out earning my husband. They go through crisis where they're saying that they're proud of you but they actually resent you because they don't feel successful anymore and they don't feel You know like they're the ones that's providing and it takes an it creates tremendous turmoil in your relationship I would echo. This is Christine. Hi Mel I amazing I am on my second marriage I would say I would echo that completely accurate because in my first marriage I felt like I raised him amid a bit. And that's not a slam. It's just like I'm a go getter. I'm a hard worker and I just handled an he was hanging on. You know And the resentment I'm like dude dude do something you know anything spin in a circle but the dishes away it it is. It's a really. There's a lot of resentment there. I've never heard it phrased the the way you did and it so well put because that's a real thing and I think especially in the industry that John and I are in my husband's country music's my forever husband if if you will Is In country music. And he is now. He is the breadwinner an and there's something in M- in my brain that's having a hard time accepting that you know and yes eight home mom now with a degree in kick ass resume and career that hug up hung up and and so now I'm going. How do I get back in? And when you said stuck at like instantly brought tears is.

"Well? I don't know how honest I really like right now. If you want mel to come back well I'M GONNA warn you right now. that There's no halfway with me And that I believe that everything everything happens for a reason And that there's a reason why you're talking to me today. And that it's GonNa come out in in terms of whether or not you WanNa just start talking about how your stock or whether or not I drag it out to you. Because they either way either way it's coming out is is that a full. That's the only way that I rolled because I think that we talk about the things that were comfortable talking about and that means that we don't talk about the things that we need to talk about. That are uncomfortable and one of the things that you said. That already jumped out at me. Is that you use the word jealousy and you used it in terms of scrolling going through social media and you know maybe you land on one of the videos that we put out every single day to the millions of our followers and what strikes you as well. Here's a woman who eleven years ago was at rocking bottom drinking too much marriage and crisis eight hundred thousand dollars in debt. Three kids leads the definition of stock the definition of self loathing and somehow she pulled together and she changed her life and now she is helping other people do that and I'm jealous of the fact that she did that. Jealousy is a really interesting thing because it's very powerful. There is the jealousy that is destructive. That is the negative jealousy when you look at what somebody has and you're envious and you believe they don't deserve it but then there's the jealousy that I think is really positive that's tied into your intuition Wishing and your intelligence and jealousy that's positive shows up as a huge like Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding signal. From your soul. That there's something in that thing that you're seeing that the other person is doing that's calling you you forward and so your jealousy of the fact that I hit this moment and somehow figured out how to get unstuck that means that your soul is trying to tell you I feel so stock and I need you to make make a decision to change your life. That's what is at the heart of the jealousy comment that you just said and it's a very positive thing. Well Oh yeah I mean I I do like because I am a I hustle like I I really do hustle and I. You know 'cause I provide for my family and my my kids and You know in a lot of times when I do look at that. It's like I want to be able to. You know which is why like I had. We had this podcast and I'm trying to help others and trying to use my experiences to guide others and help others that would would. I've been through but also so when you get stuck in your own how.

"Apply okay so I'm really excited because today's episode. We have Mel Robbins on the podcast today. She's a motivational speaker. which I just? I love motivational speakers. I'm a big fan of like Rachel Hollis But Mel Robbins is actually one of the biggest all time motivational speakers. And how how she's been able to basically go from nothing to you know selling out big arenas and she has that five second rule which. I'm really excited to talk about but I think a lot of it is just that motivating and I'm curious for you girls. What is one thing for you that you want to get motivated debated about like what is holding you back with making you feel stock is it? Their relationship is at work as your own thing like what. What is it for you that just because I mean I have? I'll all just say I'll start like when I'm in bed. It's I have things that I WANNA do but I don't know how to like get there and then I doubt myself a mcguire can never happened. I can't do that or very similar. I just sit in bed and then I then go on instagram. And then obviously I've talked before but I'm like Oh see. They're doing it and to doing it. Which is from my point of view? I feel like you're one of the most motivated. Humans I now like you're a hustler. You and my husband had the same business manager whenever over to our business manager. He's like refers to us just like she's Hustler Janice Hustler and I do feel not myself so I I would like to hustle without the doubt. There's nothing that let's hustle doubtless hustle. What about you less? I think I need to I want. I'm stuck in figuring out what's next for me. You know as my kids get older and require less of me and less day to day in pretty soon. We'll have a driver so that means I'm not even a taxi much anymore. You're not an UBER. So now Mike what. Oh what do I do next and with with all that I've been through in the last year I want to do something with that And figure out but in Mike you. I'm like okay. I see on instagram. All these people doing what I WANNA do. But how do I get there because well she was a chose a TV reporter before she did that. So she's got AH connections that I don't have you know so I've in so then I do nothing So I don't I don't pass. I think fear really earliest. Just what makes me just kind of paralyses me. I'm like well. I don't doubt that I could do something. Someone what else is already doing. And do it differently. 'cause I just really feel like we're pretty christ-centered household so for me. I'm just like God. There's a path and that's what you do and anything anything that's meant for. You always find you. That's kind of like go to slogan in our house it's meant for you always find you so but it is. I just have this. I sometimes sometimes. This is one thing I actually one of the questions. I wanted to ask. Miles a cow. Do you not let other people say because you can be as tough as you wanna be but and and you know like Burnett will sailly the the famous quote when you're in the arena and you play in the arena and I get all of that and I get really hyped up but then there's like one really harsh comment and that just I'm not made I don't think to be in the spotlight. So that's what's always kind of kept me from doing what I've always wanted to do. Because I can't take I could never do do what Jim does ever. Yeah I agree with that. I don't know how either because you're still human right. Yeah Yeah and no matter. How ridiculous the comment? It would be hard for me to get past passed that would for me. It would be very unmotivating. It would take all the wind out of my sails and I don't know that I would recover Probably just bag it in and I think because I know there's a lot of stuff out there right now I think Say this. It's it's hard because I've put myself in that situation to have criticism but also to be because we have been so open like for example. When I had mentioned the twenty four hour rule Last episode got slaughtered in the media. Because you know it's like so you're saying someone Oh can lie and but I I wasn't you know what I was even saying in that is when someone has a character defect of lying all the time. Sometimes they just need a space to be like. Oh crap I was like I need to go back and fix it. So that they're not scared and they don't hold onto it and they don't justify that is something that works for us but anything that I ever say or do it.

"On the the mom January. I've got Kristen breast arrest again. Who is on last week's podcast? So much fun last week and then we've got leslie another one of my mom When my mom besties Miss Leslie crabtree studio? What's going on everyone's life mom life? Love is back in school so that's a little tricky. She just turned four. She turned four on Sunday. Four was really hard. What made it hard? Because he's about to turn four so I need the prep. I'll probably cry I it it just seems big. It's like the last of the baby days. Look I get choked up for some big age. I mean I know listen Hashtag less. She's healthy she's great. It just seems so big and she so like well-spoken and she just looks like a little person now not so baby you know. And she's a little human yeah so she turned four on January fifth and then she woke up January six and she was like guess. What am I go? What and she's like? I'm five today. It doesn't quite work like that. Bless your heart. Well Leslie I mean. How old are your kids? Oh God I've got one getting ready to turn sixteen so talk about big. No I don't care how old I get slashing the tires for you with please. So that I can say that I didn't do it and you can say that with an honest heart. Yeah that was me. It's tough it's real that's big. I don't care how old I get my kids. I still to this day. Can't seeing them happy birthday it without crying and I I get choked up when I seen them happy because you were there on the birthday. That's right so sixteen sixteen and in thirteen but sixteen is just a S. rough. It's rough someone said to me. It's the beginning of letting go I was like. Oh stop like stop there like he's GonNa Turn Sixteen and then in two years he's he's GonNa be in college. I'm like do you really want me to completely have a breakdown. Because they like it was yeah right. WHO won here? Say Your our friends at the beginning of letting go when I When they cut the cord for me it really was a hard moment? I was like okay. You're not inside me anymore. It's GonNa get rough from here on out. Yeah well it's true. I feel like sixteen age though. Well I feel like every single age I. I don't know if I'm going to. I guess I'm going to be super sad at four but at the same time my love who joe is coming into I feel like I'm GonNa have a hard time around the the twelve thirteen. Were you a bad twelve thirteen year. Old unless my parents got divorced So the flood of emotion. He well twelve thirteen with girls is also like puberty. Why didn't start my period until I was like fifteen sixteen sixteen and a half late bloomer? Stick together well how well my sixth graders. How old are you in sixth? Great twelve right. Yeah so I feel like a lot like I know. A lot of kids are starting puberty younger too. Because I think it's a lot of stuff obviously. I think it's the foods and everything that we're eating the hormones that disagree yes but I mean I haven't done the research so I don't know that's just my own naive people. Pick up on January or hates milk. Okay no because my sixteen year old was a late bloomer but my now thirteen year old not So I don't and I don't know was the thirteen. Eighteen year old influenced by the sixteen year. Old It does that have any role in how quickly they develop that he has an older brother in. Maybe it moved him along. Because you know how if you're with your friends friends for extended period of time you can end up with your girlfriends. You end up on the same cycle Janai now because we have to talk each other off the ledge about every third week so does that play role in why the the thirteen year old is developing faster. I think so. I think it's the second kid things. Because Jason he's he walked faster than Jolie he's already already said his first word Wade Wade faster than Jolie he 'cause he's watching her he's just like and they want in on the action. Yeah they WANNA play. I mean is legend legends. Like put me in coach. Yeah he's like on a kitchen table. What are you doing bro Right? I mean just words all the words sixteen though I think is going to be hard because you're watching them drive. I can't guys. I'm emotional today. Why I don't know I think it's just? They seem big already. Is that it. Yeah and if I put her in and what else is going on Well my husband's been on the USO tour. So that's not helpful either but he comes home today so okay. It's been an emotional national. Maybe that's why I've had this empathetic like how do soldier wives do this kind of weak to where I don't know how does that so dangerous and right. Now it's especially Ashley Dangerous. Yeah and he's like protected but he's also trained. I hate to say it. You know. Like he's redneck training. The handed out rifles and there was a terrorist with antlers on his Ed Wood. You're probably take them down fast but if he would make it otherwise anyway no I do think like the thought of like her getting in a car and going away you know. It's so hard to just hard to let go anyway. Well then you have to trust the other. That's the thing trust other drivers anyone else. Anything something else because it's like that's why I'm like just right here. Stained my little my my little section of safety. I've been pretty honest about the fact that I think legends never moving out and that I hate his wife and she's seventeen months so it's going to be hard to let go have any boys had girls yet like. What about girlfriends wait? Let's have have boys. Only I have two boys. Yeah so you're GONNA have to women possibly unless one of them end up you know I. I don't I think we're safe there. Yeah I think we're not being faith is not because we had political that's true. I think that we know which which gender my children prefer either away. You would be supportive. Oh absolutely absolutely yet now as far as girlfriends again I told you my sixteen year old is a late bloomer. The thirteen year old so quick. Funny Story we were in the car the other day and I was asking the thirteen year old on the way home from school. I said so. You know buddy anyone at school that you think is cute. 'cause like I need fair a fair heads up right because like you kristen. I'm GonNa hate whoever he did hater. I don't even know your boys. I hate these girls that are with your boys and if they break this art careful it's real hard for me. We not to get involved in their lives. So we're on the way home. Anyone cute right because I need forewarning. And he's my kid that'll tell me anything and he goes now not so much and I said are you sure ooh really nobody because it's the same girls as last year in last year there were some girls that you thought were cute is like Oh. They're just friends now. Said okay. Such really nobody. I know but I'm sure they're girls who have crush on me. What all right he goes last year there was like ten? Drew Woah. Wait so tell me okay timeout though. Sorry that's hilarious and Derby's adorable. He knows it yeah he knows it. That's the problem. I looked ultimate said. Drew he goes. I think the adult version of drew. Because when you asked you asked me mom and I told you he was like did you want me to lie. I was like no but glad to see. You're not a short on confidence. Yeah which is great but who cares it. Here's the flip side to that conversation. Let me just play devil's advocate. Oh boy no I'm just saying because you as say that you're GonNa hate the the women and I have also said that. But here's the flipside of that. What if the women are just like you? Strong confident loving caring. Why would you then hate them? Because they're going to be good for your son or hater. Then yeah I come at it from a little different angle I would be. I would be happy for them. You know I want someone strong in in. Don't they say that you end up marrying someone like your mom or someone like a bad so I would want them. I'm to be strong but at the same time also hater a little bit because they took your again. I'm the og right yeah so now. There's someone who who's coming into his life and his is going to take him away from me but at the same time. I know that that's the way it's supposed to be. Let your mom rhythm with a modern my hands. I mean she probably cut the umbilical cord. And I just didn't know it but you know I mean I want him in my life so I'll have to got it out is hard. I think I have this theory. That boy MOMS are harder to work your way in with that if they have one of each which like. I don't fear for Jason's wife as much as I would fear well but at least we'll have each other so I can talk you off the ledge. You can talk doc afterlife but to your point with just boy moms I feel like I mean that is two women taking your son's away. Say I'm sorry I mean I not we all feel it but it's also like you've always been the only woman like you're writing the House Hawaii. The only female right. I wonder how it's probably go have you had. I won basketball the sex talk but let me know if we needed. What sex talk like has she had the one time you because I'm like I feel like gets happening earlier? You want to talk to a for. No no no but I know it's happening earlier and earlier for people and that Kinda stresses me out like my neighbors have a ten year old little boy and they had the lake kind of have a like a topical very stretching service. Yeah Yeah Yeah no absolutely lately. We've had the conversation. I listen I've had to have. I didn't know I've had to have conversations with my when my fifteen year old soon to be sixteen year old was thirteen. That were not anything that I really wanted to have lake about masturbation. No I don't know it's under the breadth. I don't know I'll talk to him about that about about rape in like him being raped. Oh yeah there's there were are there. Were headlines here. Oh Wow yeah at a school I don't I don't know if it was alleged out. Let's just say that alleged. This stuff went down in the locker room in the boys locker room and so I felt like you know it was all over the place. The kids were talking about it so I felt like I had to sit my kids down and say listen. This is what happened. It's not okay but this this could happen to you too. It's not just a girl thing. It could happen to you to talk about uncomfortable conversation and then we you had to have conversation about oral sex also very uncomfortable. I need like.

Maryland 'peace cross' can stand on public land, U.S. high court rules

"The court has spoken. This is an old cross on public land outside of Washington DC. The cross went up a long time ago to pay homage to the debt of World War, One man across has been standing excuse me for nearly a century and the Supremes in a seven two ruling can't remember it was really lopsided said that this cross is not the imposing state religion, and it will stand and the this, call will reverse a ruling by the fourth circuit court of appeal that ruled the cross. I had to come down, but it's going to stay up and it's been announced by the Trump administration that the fed again and I love this will press to overturn this state sanctuary law. Yeah. The state version of this law is very, very far-reaching. And what it does. It impact, you know this it imposes penalties on law enforcement officers who obey federal law. You obey the federal law. You can get in trouble right? You cannot obey the federal law, as a law enforcement officer in the state, thanks to the sanctuary state position. And the way that it was written HR fifty four. HR HR, you know, which one it is. So the Justice department wants a full appeal court hearing on this one, they want to review it again. First time around. It didn't come out so, well, this time they're going at it and kind of a

Ellen DeGeneres leaves Sarah Paulson in hysterics after series of scares

"Had fun this week preparing for Sarah Paulson to come back. Kevin how much did it cost? I don't do the numbers dead. You spend the numbers some fun ideas. Paid for him. Yeah. We had a wonderful producer name, Melissa scientists, Sarah and she came up. We've scared her first of all we scared her in every way we've ever scared anyone on the. Yes. Ellen in the bathroom at the scare table behind. Her built a special box could scare her during five second rule. So listen, I've been to the house with her when we sent her house. Yeah. So let's camp with some really crazy ideas to scare her. That seem insane. We actually dug out a tunnel underneath Ellen's your idea member that was Mary's idea. I'm hearing now. Dug a tunnel under Ellen's chair, basically. So that Sewri a sub flooring flooring. Well, if you notice the platform of of what we call home base, which is where Ellen chairs are you have to take a couple of steps up to get to them. So there's gotta be some room underneath a little bit of room. So they cleared out some some boards, and we made a tunnel. So Corey could crawl from backstage into that box after Ellen showed her that it was empty. So we open the table to show, Sarah. There's no one in the table to scare right? Then we'd close the table and somebody crawls you guys you guys know what we are suddenly we're kinda like magicians, it was a lot like a little like look there's nothing here. And then suddenly Elissa had an absolutely shame. What to do a ninja dropping from the sky to scare Sarah Paulson? It was so fast. And so startling. It was and the what you really you have in your mind. What you hope that will be. And this didn't disappoint great. So if you wanna see that go check, your DVR's, and and check out this show because because we're podcast, even if we play a clip of screaming, you can't see how it happened. But we're going to play a clip here's quip of screaming. God. Can I open it up? There's nothing in here. Nobody in there guys know what they like to do. Right. Go to yourself now. I'm scared. I know any just scream I did know I saw you look at tiny bit over my shoulder like something happened via nothing's happening. So you do impressions. And you're really good at accents impression. So we're gonna play heads up because you like heads up. Right. I do love ice game. And I like your impressions to I didn't know. I saw you on Jimmy Fallon me doing who. Are you doing Barrymore? Maybe yet. You're just good at impressions. Thanks. All right. So I'm gonna guess who you're doing. And no this. This part. It out. I'm saying play Andy. Okay. All right. This is fun. Okay. Okay. Oh. I don't I come do this very well. But I'm doing all kinds of poses in anonymous staged. Let's go accent NAMA stage. I am yet. Does I have no idea? Oh, I'm round. If you own. What am I doing here on how they really would like to offer some kind of of this Wade we accent? I'm doing a vanity Benji thing with the tool with lots of already. But I don't know who you are. I'm not supposed to be passed and it's an accent. Okay. It's It's not to get. supposed to get. I don't know if it's all right? Let me tell you something. The whole. I wanna say that looks like sit down. All right. Creative. We have to. I know we had to build tunnel and. That's why I was able to it was empty and then he came in during the commercial break.

Most-Googled Scientific Misconceptions

"Our goal is to satisfy your curiosity and one way for us to know, what people are curious about is well, Google, the website information is beautiful identified the most searched for myths and urban legends. So today, we thought we'd take the most science focused items on that list and dig into ten of the most googled scientific misconceptions. Yes, since I know we have listeners in Australia. I think this one will be one of their favorites. This misconception is the toilets in the northern and southern hemisphere swirl the opposite way, oh, man. This is a big one for me. They don't the reason. This myth exists is. Probably because of the Coriolis effect. That's a very real thing. That involves the way the rotation of the earth makes hurricanes and tornadoes swirled counterclockwise in the northern hemisphere and clockwise in the southern hemisphere, but not toilets. They are too small for this to have any effect. Oh, here's a good one. You should wait an hour after eating to swim. Actually, it's totally okay to swim right after you're eating swimming super strenuously on a very full stomach could lead to cramps, but the risk actually isn't that high. In fact, one report on drownings in the US found that less than one percent occurred shortly after a meal, here's one for our culinary friends out there, we've told you this once before, but it's still true. You should not add oil to your pasta all that does is prevent the sauce from sticking to the noodles. Plus, you'll be left with a plate of oil noodles, and nobody likes that. So don't Portland your pasta. Here's a twofer. You don't have a gene for something. And your brain isn't hard. Wired to do anything jeans aren't really for anything. They're just more like a set of instructions that might have different effects in different circumstances. One gene might be associated with certain traits in one species, but completely different traits in a different context. And along the same lines one particular human brain might show a tendency towards certain habits, but brains are too flexible to say that they're just hardwired for something. There's not much to the idea that they're hardwired from birth for any particular set of traits and going back to food. You may have heard of the five second rule, which means that if you drop some food on the floor, you can eat it as long as it was there for less than five seconds yet. Don't do that. Maybe you don't need to be told the germs won't actually, wait five seconds before they start to infect your snacks. But we're going to tell you anyway, just a refresher. Whether it's carpet tile, or would you probably shouldn't eat food that spent on the floor. Ashley, no regrets. You have a really strong immune system. I bet

Examining The Impact Of U.S. Sanctions Against Other Countries

"Support for this podcast and the following message. Come from internet essentials from Comcast. Connecting more than six million low income people to low cost high speed internet at home. So students are ready for homework class graduation and more. Now, they're ready for anything. The United States has sanctions in place against more than two dozen countries and more than seven thousand companies individuals and groups that is more than in any other time in US history. Which seems like a good moment. Ask the question. Do sanctions actually work Stacey Vanik Smith and Cardiff Garcia host of the indicator from planet money tried to find out some of the sanctions, the US has place have really deep roots. US sanctions against Cuba. Go back decades. Some sanctions are really knew our latest sanctions against Iran went into effect. Just a few weeks ago. Dan Dresner is a professor of international politics at the Tufts University school of law and diplomacy. He's also the author of the sanctions paradox. Dan says there are four key elements. That can help sanctions be successful. I is. And I know this sounds banal. But that you're demanded actually specific dances. The current demands on Iran by the Trump administration seem really unclear and really broad when he read them, and he says this might make US sanctions against Iran, much, less likely to be effective. Second rule of sanctions, Dan says is that it helps if you are allies in some way with the country that you are sanctioning or at least that you do some business with that country. Otherwise, there's just not as much to lose because the ties aren't that strong. So that's rule. Number two sanctioned, your friends, or at least, your frenemies. I guess always sanction your friend. He's rule. Number three, go after the money, not the products. So in in many ways, if you try to impose a trade embargo, some kind as I said, you're incentivizing black market activity and local traders are going to be perfectly happy to bus sanctions. And they're not really gonna worry about let's say losing access to the US market on the other hand when you talk about financial sanctions, the dollar is such an important part of Coble. Capital markets that any reputable Bank does not want to risk running afoul of the United States Treasury rule. Number four, make sure you've got a lot of other countries on board all those frenemies checks because otherwise the country being sanctioned can more easily find other ways to do business or even worse. They might start to cut you out of the system. We're sort of approaching the point where if you step back, it seems that we're using this tool an awful lot. And here the concern becomes you're gonna start incentivizing actors to find alternatives to the dollar. But there's another downside one. That's a lot more human Bronco Milosevic is an economist at the City University of New York and he specializes in inequality blanket sanctions, I think actually are fundamentally wrong day. Punish people who actually don't have any influence over very small influence on what the government does Bronco worries that something similar will happen in Iran, where people were already protesting lack of drinking water and problems affording, basic. Food. Staples. Of course, there's also this idea that sanctions will make conditions in a country really bad and caused the population to revolt and overthrow the leadership. But that can backfire says Bronco they have the opposite effect. All people have great disability down activity government because they're ev-. Everybody is being affected by them. Ultimately, Dan, says the best kind of sanction the most effective kind of sanction is often the sanction that never actually happens. The ideal outcome is to threaten but not impose sanctions as like a horror movie. It's better if you don't actually ever see the monster, you just sort of because once you see it, you know, fight it off things like that. Minuting when you don't see it.
