"We talked yesterday are talked last Friday. I should say about our our opinion is two priorities for this club. Come 2022. And and one position to positions that we don't even have to be concerned about. And that's the first space with Votto and a second base with a young man I want to talk about today. We're going to be talking more about him later when we do our end of the year picks for all the postseason awards in Major League baseball. Jonathan Andy has had the best all around year. Of any rookie that is in recent memory. As far as I'm concerned, how many times have we done the show? Marty and we've talked about the Red's not having a leadoff hitter around talking about years. Years here. No question, right. You know, we need a leadoff hitter. We need a leader here. You got to lead off hitter. He's 25 years old with an on base percentage of 3 80 correct. I mean, he he's got such a good eye. He really does know the strike zone puts the ball in play. He's a really, really good player. I like him a lot. And he's you know, I think there are people who felt like he should have gotten here before. Now. I don't I don't agree with that. I think I think he's a young man. Who, uh, once he got to spring training last February All of a sudden everything seemed to fall into place because I really questioned and they would probably never say this. But honestly, goodness would question whether or not the Reds hierarchy. Ever expected to open the season. With that kid playing second base. They had no idea. I don't think so. Maybe they say you're wrong, but I don't believe that. I think it says a lot about him that he can move from third base to second question. It's got really good arm strength. I've watched him slow from different angles. I mean, he can really play second base as well. He's a great find. There's only a couple things that I Don't like about hold off on that. When we come back, we'll talk about them in just a moment. Yeah, This view was worth the hike right? And it's a good way to stay on top.

"These young men are so many reasons for them leave but coach had done such a phenomenal job with this so they gave us a leg up or just i was saying the twenty two class. It'd be like in and focused on twenty. Two knowing that joan was coming we just dialed in on trying to set our calendar. Set the set the guys that we wanted to come in early two priority guys but then we got a taste right away. Did you know those priority That we have spent a lotta time with recruiting over the past year. None of those dudes are ready to make a decision for whatever reasons and obviously the reason is is because they hadn't been recruited like they hadn't been on other campuses so they hadn't been on your campus. Usually in the past they would have come up or a leak or maybe just would've stopped by if they were in town but they hadn't had the chance to do that so some of their family members. Just wanna see other places and you know how it is when you got a really good program. you know. there's an opportunity for them to look and say okay. This is a good fit but when they leave their program now. It's.

"One video was blocked from Let's see if i can find it was from like two thousand ten or something And i got to copyright claims and we'll get into the second from a show from november of two thousand nineteen and one from january of two thousand fifteen. The thing i got blocked for that. I got suspended for was a show from two thousand fifteen. In which a a feature that. I played bumper music that happened to be from don henley and six years later they come to and say not only. Are we blocking the video. You're suspended from livestreaming for ninety days. And they don't even tell you what the offense was so i actually you know i have audio podcast too so i went back and listen to the show and the minute. I heard heavily. I knew that was it. Because he's notorious for this and that's what got me suspended the first time but this is this is an abuse of power. Far as i'm concerned in my way off base here yeah. I think you've got the right shape of things. There are some. There are some particular that i think are technical and in the realm of copyright and kind of complicated but what the dmca says is that the people who host content are not liable for copyright infringement. If when they're told that there's an infringement they remove this stuff it's called expeditiously right so what that means. Is that the if you are too. And you get a notice from rightsholder that says this infringes my copyright you get to make some determinations right you can. You can look at the work and you can say. I don't think it infringes copyright. I think that that's fair. use right. that's that's fair. uses not thirty seconds. It's actually a really complicated analysis that you need on a human who understands the law for fair use creates exemptions for things like parody and criticism. Yes no one's ever invented a computer that can tell parody and criticism from verbatim reproduction. It also asks that you do things like evaluate whether or not you're going to undermine the market for the underlying work It asked whether you're the uses proportionate whether you've taken more than you need. These are things that software can evaluate. These are things that you really need are complex. Human evaluation and various is really important in in a couple of landmark supreme court copyright cases in the first part of the century where the court took up the question of the of the intersection between copyright and free speech. So you know if you know your first amendment you know it starts. Congress shall make no law and it says congress shall make no law regarding restrictions on speech on expression. And so. Then you have this other thing. Copyright which is also in the constitution since then called the progress clause To promote the progress of useful arts and sciences congress may grant monopolies of limited times right And and copyright is the government making a law that says that some words can't be repeated unless you got permission from someone else right and so this is kind of. It's there two priorities that our intention look. I make my living from books. I'm not gonna say that. We don't need any copyright. I like the idea of copyright as set regulations for the supply chain of my industry. According it's kind of silly to ask you know a twelve year old. Who wants to put some harry potter fan frick to to navigate industrial regulation. Like i like finance regulation. But i wouldn't ask you know parents to file with the sec. When they give their kids allowance. I'd right like you know there's there's The most important thing about regulation is actually what the rule say. It's who you apply them to you. Know parents paying out allowance or not banks kids Posting harry potter fan are not in the entertainment industry. You know like as someone who who wants my industry to be a well. Regulated unfair one. I wanna make sure that the rules are crafted so that they have the complexity and nuance to capture those industrial relations. You can't make them simple enough for a twelve year old to understand if you're also gonna make them suited for my purpose so anyway. That's like by way of background. So the supreme court took this up and they said look resolving. This tension is Is result between free. Speech and and copyright and exclusive rights of authors is captured by fair. Use the fear uses isn't like a nice to have various the judges. They called it the escape valve for free expression that allows commentary criticism. All kinds of things. And you know yeah. They implicate judges. You need people to make subtle legal two fences but you know just because they're hard to figure out. It doesn't make them irrelevant. It actually the reason. They're hard to figure there so important. You know so. For example an author a black woman took gone with the wind and rewrote it from the perspective of the enslaved people. She called it. The wound gone. Wow i'd love to mitchell. State sued her and she won the supreme court found in favour even though she took the whole book even though she took the heart of the book even though she competed directly commercially with them and even though she made a commercial use of it. The supreme court found that the free expression value of her use trumped all of those other riders in that various analysis. Great so when you then turn a computer loose to make determinations about fair use right to say well as that ten seconds thirty seconds is too much too little. Those a critical is it. Scholarly is.

"Dollars. I think in in new programs. A bipartisan basis. Had been working on for years. Senator murkowski senator manchin leads on the senate side. Subsidies for green energy apparently supported are my favor model. Probably not but they win support every year and then the question of compromise. My favorite most recent example is Many will recall when Green subsidies were extended in twenty fifteen equity happened with the lifting of the crude export At crewe crude export ban who excuse me and so you know. That's a place where two priorities that were almost universally partisan could be met and coexist. I think there's a way in which something like a carbon price particularly carbon tax because of the fiscal needs in this country right. The the need to raise revenue to deal with some of our dad or to accomplish other tax a preference. You know tax changes. We'd like to see the need to do something about climate change which be lasting which will be efficient and will be low cost all kind of converge on and will allow industry to do its business where it's still appropriate to do it on as we make the transition all that stuff. The Keystone Pipeline, obviously devastating for a lot of blue collar workers certainly makes us less energy. Independent, less secure, makes no sense and, of course, the suspension on the leasing on oil, federal lanes and waters. If that's my permanent in Texas, we lose about 120,000 jobs nationwide about a million jobs just over the next couple of years again doesn't make us more energy secure. So big big mistakes, I think addressing Senator Schumer, Look, we have two priorities in America right now, defeating Cove. It In rebuilding this economy. That means the focus on main Street businesses in the jobless and in in this covert package. I don't see much help and all for the economy, and I think the biggest house painting question And I think we all need to hear from the president and the Treasury sector yelling is how many jobs will this create? We're spending $1.9 trillion. How many jobs will this create for country and I ask that because I look just at their proposal for funding state local government. Ones they're proposing. "On wasn't qualified by the traditional standards of of having a lot of experience but if you look at all white house staffs they often are filled with at junior level with young people. These are people that work in campaigns and they get rewarded by working on the white house staffs some of them turn out to be really great and some of them turned out to be less than gray. And i knew a lot of people from the campaign so i actually was pretty conversant with the people who got the job in the white house. Even though i was not a georgian. And i had not been involved with jimmy carter really and i had not even met jimmy carter until about two weeks into the white house. I never met him in the campaign so i was a little unusual. Yes and was there a curriculum so to speak or way of learning on the job and just i'm curious how somebody who seems to be such a diligent student In all things who has what seems to be clearly an almost a dedic memory. I mean you have such a incredible ability to retain facts and figures and to then use them in speeches and fundraising and so on. How did you approach. Learning the job of deputy domestic policy adviser right. I would say that the first thing you mentioned is i can remember things pretty well and details of the things. So you do this bizarre thing that you can't remember where you put your glasses even though they might be on your forehead but you can remember something happen in thirteen twelve or something. I don't know. I don't know why the brain works that way but the answer your specific question. What what jimmy carter wanted to do was to do everything at once. He didn't really want to focus on one or two priorities. And people told him that was mistake but he said look on as many presidents. Do if you're so smart. How come present united states. And you're not so many presents. Say that and so he basically thought look. Now's a chance to get things done that he wanted to get done. So we tried everything so we have to have bills. The congress respond to things that congress wants to do and so my job is to help my boss who is a message who had known carter for quite some time and so he had really good insights as the carter one one and we had a domestic policy staff about forty people and so my job is to help coordinate things with them..

He says Democrats would prefer Republicans support on covert relief, but they're prepared to continue without them. Americans are still getting sick. Americans were still dying. Americans, They're still losing their jobs. We must not suffer timidity or delay. There is great urgency to continue the work of covert relief. And that's exactly what the Senate will do. "Recorded. Now trending on news, 93.1 kfbk statue of Spanish missionary father Junipero Serra no longer standing in Capital Park. It was torn down by protesters on Saturday. Meantime, bishop behind me, Soto has released a statement on the tearing down of the statue, he says there's no question the California's indigenous people endured great suffering during the colonial period and then later faced The horror of government sanctioned genocide under the state of California. The legacies heartbreaking yet it is also true that while father Sarah worked under this colonial system, he denounced its evils and worked to protect the dignity of native peoples. That's the response from Bishop Jaime Soto on the tearing down of the statue of Father Sarah. In capital part it's 5 47 now and KFBK. More more Californians being tested positive for the novel Corona Virus. Cape Keystone Michael's in Studio Live. A look at the situation in the Sacramento region Kitty. Almost 4400 people have now tested positive for covert 19 in Sacramento County, including several 100 confirmed over the holiday weekend. The vast majority of those cases are in people 40 and younger, so they tend to be a bit healthier, which is why Not had that many deaths, but the same time they are also more likely to be asymptomatic to be without symptoms, So we want to make sure we have enough testing of them available so that we can find them before they become what are called super spreaders. Public Health Services director Dr Peter Beilenson says five more deaths in Sacramento County are being attributed to the novel Corona virus, and we're seeing a significant increase in hospitalizations in I C u patients from a total about a month or so ago of eight hospitalizations, two of which were in the I C U to 100 48 hospitalizations, 41 of whom are in the I C U Dr Beilenson says that's putting an increased focus on again bending the curve, even though for the moment the county is prepared for a potential surgeon cases. We have 90 beds, additional for icy use search capacity beds, which are the ones that are reserved for Serge. We have all 803 still held in the bands and ventilators. We have 520 of the 656 In the county are still available. The former sleep train arena is still set up for potential overflow, and dozens of state issued trailers are still available at Cal Expo. Should the virus invade the capital city's homeless population were working with the city to make sure they're available for people who are homeless who tested positive. There are very few of those folks, but that is available and, as are the motel rooms for those who are high risk for covert among the homeless people. Meanwhile, YOLO County is dealing with a covert 19 outbreak at the Alderson Convalescent Hospital in Woodland. We had 10 confirmed cases there. So far, six are residents and for our staff that we have no death at this time. YOLO County's Jenny Tan says. That's out of about 150 residents and staff who were tested last week. We've isolated those that were confirmed cases and given them like dedicated staff so that the staff are solely helping or serving those that are isolated. We also have the staff. I'll take temperature checks. At the beginning of all of their shift. Visitors were being restricted at the facility until further notice, and a phone line is being set up for families of residents. Family members are asked to either maybe call into this phone line or if they're left. One has a cell phone or a way that they can contact them that they can go ahead and do it that way, But the facility is trying to limit As much faith to faith or visit interactions as possible. While much of the attention when they comes to protecting Californians from a novel Corona virus has been focused on seniors and those with underlying health conditions. Dr. Beilenson says. The two priorities air now those who are covert 19 positive patients who are really sick and those under the age of 40 they are more likely to be asymptomatic not to have symptoms. But they are also therefore more likely to be called super spreaders because they still shed the virus, even though they don't have symptoms. Dr Beilenson says. It's important. They're tested so that those with a novel Corona virus could be identified. Kitty Joe Michael's Thank you Traffic.

"The the night fell and that was due in large part to the president of the National Guard and our neighboring cities who offered their support with their own personalities and equipment when you said the National Guard was helping out what were they doing when the National Guard arrived they were able to live down key locations in the city so they surrounded our city hall they handled police headquarters in Santa Monica pier some of those iconic places that we needed to protect first month they lock those down and got them secure they our police force was freed up than to do policing throughout the city and that's when we were able to clear the streets enforce the curfew and restore order throughout the city have you had a chance yet to assess the damage do you have any idea what kind of businesses have been affected well just about any kind of retail business in many restaurants have been affected being a damage assessment is ongoing today is the clean up after it but what I witnessed yesterday was you know the organized leader it's showing up and starting with shoe stores tobacco lecture the pharmacies and then moving into just about any kind of retail walking in through glass windows walking out with bikes in a truncated starting fires we knocked down nine fires about half of those were structural and how for vehicles do you have any video footage perhaps from stores or what have you and are you going to try to find people who may have been behind us yeah the first step for us as it continued its current setting we have a curfew today that starts at one PM in our central business district and four PM throughout the entire city so first priority is to maintain order second priority let's discuss the damage and then third priority will be investigating what we Keyon for enforcement that will be following video leaves you suggest anything other tool where any arrests made yesterday or overnight there were two hundred arrests made for vandalism and looting for biolase and that curfew our Santa Monica is a relatively small city how how do you accommodate that how do you deal with two hundred people arrested well we and like I mentioned the support of other neighboring jurisdictions that provided both personally and equipment so we had a mobile operations center that we set up our big blue bus yard downtown Monica and that's where everybody went when they were picked up last night all of this is coming at a very difficult time for your city when businesses like many communities throughout California we're just starting to reopen after the corona virus shut down but a big part of Santa Monica's revenues come from retailing from tourism and the city is already having to implement major budget cuts because of the huge drop in taxes coming in are you concerned that this is going to make things worse well there's no doubt it makes things worse I mean we were just beginning to reopen and people getting comfortable with the idea of coming back out to our brick and mortar stores and restaurants and we're all learning how to live during this pandemic in a new way and and of the summer started we were very hopeful so this is definitely a setback for us but you know we're really pleased that there was no loss of life last night there were no serious injuries and we're gonna go clean up the glass and get everybody back out back to work and in fact I understand volunteers can be turning out this.

"They are taking care of themselves so what what's what's the difference or not getting care on the streets so now we're gonna say we're not gonna put up in a hotel room because we can't give them care there it's just it doesn't make any sense you know it then you're gonna leave alone on the streets during this virus where they're not able to self isolate talks are really upset about this I feel like the city's just like leave it up to die San Francisco city officials have prioritized who gets a hotel room first and it's not just the homeless the first priority is for people who have tested positive or waiting for test results who don't have a place to self quarantine the majority of those people are homeless the second priority our people in shelters who are at risk from the virus the third priority is health care workers and first responders who need lodging in the fourth priority are people living on the streets were sixty years or older or have pre existing conditions it's unclear when people who are homeless on the streets of San Francisco could begin moving into the hotel rooms given the first case of coronavirus in a homeless shelter supervisor say they're taking more action to spur city officials to act faster your supervisor dean Preston I am moving forward with four of my colleagues to introduce on Tuesday at our next board meeting an emergency ordinance to really step things up here to immediately acquire a thousand hotel rooms to move folks from the Chicago living situation into those Unitymedia early as well to more robust planned to get all the units that we need the city has plans to lease around two thousand five hundred hotel rooms by the end of the.

"In for mark Willard here on the mark Willard show mark will be back with you on Monday in his normal time slot I will be long gone here good M. J. conscience in one of my favorite guys to bring on KNBR tonight coming on in just a little bit on the hour when I talk to him about the forty Niners but first let's just run through kind of the lay of the land here we had great cone on the show last night Grant County great a rabble rouser Santa Rosa press Democrat he's the guy who got into the spat with Eric Armstead on Twitter so that's you figure out what that guy's about real fast I am a grant Cohn fan I can understand how some aren't then again there are a lot of people who are due to curtain back fence so you know as I guess I am I know right who would think that by the way I see the tax side I know I'm get a lay of the land though right we're gonna talk about the CBA we're gonna talk about some of the free agents at the forty Niners could be interested we're gonna talk about the NFL draft combine which will be out next week but there are a lot of extensions a lot of moving parts of the forty Niners really need to take care of you gotta take care of your own first away and the two priorities for the forty Niners this offseason are to extend the force Buckner he's going into his fifth year option you would rather him not play on that fifth year option you'd rather him play on a new deal get a good signing bonus on the books out in front lowers cap because they have very little cap money to play with second priority get George Kittle locked up and you can make the argument and I've heard it maiden it makes some sense I don't agree with it but it makes some sense that you actually wait but you don't sign George Kittle until after next season so next year is gonna make about eight hundred K. any contract that you sign in to well he's gonna wanna play on that immediately because he's making a hundred K. and he's the best tight end arguably the best skill player in the NFL he deserves a raise the same time that's a big cap tech that comes into play you sign them now you can probably beat the market there are a lot of good tight ends will come on to the market this year even more next year and just natural inflation prices are going to go up if you wait you might be paying George Kittle sixty million dollars a year if you strike now the inflation's not gonna go up that much she probably deserves all that money in a little bit more but just not the way that markets work so I say get at it now but that means that you have to free up some space that isn't just readily available you're gonna have a first round draft pick in theory I think they trade it but no one is completely sure what they're going to do they might use number thirty one to get what they think is an impact player even though they do not have picks in the second third or fourth rounds in this year's draft we'll see but you draft a first rounder that's a money a draft class on the whole it's going to cost you money against the cap you need to re sign Jimmie ward or not but if you're not going to re sign him who you bring in Eric Armstead I think they franchise tag but again that's something that you need to free up some cap room to make happen so how did the forty Niners free up that cap room it seems so easy and obvious and yet it will probably come across is controversial you extend Jimmy Garoppolo's Jimmy Garoppolo's heading out after this season the forty Niners gave him the richest contract in NFL history number that feels like six or seven now it's it's relatively cheap by modern standards get inflation but the forty Niners in paragraph they have trap doors everywhere every contract is littered with booby traps for the player now for the team the team always has an easy exit and the forty Niners easy exit with Jimmy Garoppolo was we'll give him one year well paying a whole bunch of money because we have nothing but salary cap space it will basically put five years worth of bonuses and stuff into your one if his cap it's gonna be like fifty million dollars but it doesn't matter because we stink and we have nothing the cap space the next year will be more reasonable that was last season after that season they thought well we'll see in two years of a mall now if he's the guy or not then the ACL in Kansas city happens in week three of the twenty nineteen I'm sorry twenty eighteen season and then last year happens and they go to the damn Super Bowl and yet people are somehow more confused about Jimmy Garoppolo's how I don't know now we got grand come coming on saying that they should go out and get Tom Brady at dak Prescott and there's all these names that are being thrown around because Jimmy grapple approved in the fourth quarter of the Superbowl that he is not a transcendent player so one not very many of those it's also not a scrub I don't know if he's hit a ceiling already he's twenty eight years old but he has one year of relatives NFL experience he is a conundrum my stance is this stuff could be very hard to upgrade I don't think the Tom Brady at age forty three going into his age forty four year is an upgrade over twenty eight year old soon to be twenty nine year old Jimmy Garoppolo's again sumi sorry I just don't think he's an upgrade yes Brady probably would be better if you start a George Kittle who knows who else he beat her to Deebo Samuel he's there everybody else can board I don't know the venue Sanders gonna be there you probably one of the manual Sanders last year got home it's a new little bit different somebody could work he could also be a disaster you might also falling off a cliff last year Jimmy drop below we've seen the baseline we we know what you mean grapplers he's competent now is he going to go out in Patrick Mahomes didn't win you a Super Bowl probably not but David he could your to Matt Ryan took a big jump under Kyle Shanahan Matt Ryan Matt Ryan was the NFL's MVP under Kyle Shanahan you don't kind of want to see how this all works out the dude was one quarter away from winning the Superbowl how he was one throw away from.

What does China want from a U.S.-North Korea summit?

"The top stories for investors in the coming week i'm bob moon in new york up later in our program preview a trio of interest rate decisions around the world but i want to continue our global team coverage of the donald trump kim jong un summit for more let's turn things over to bloomberg daybreak asia anchors doug christner in new york and bryan curtis in hong kong bob the summit between president trump and north korean leader kim jong un has huge significance for us here in asia i thought we'd take a look at the asian perspective we asked bloomberg's david tweed to join us for some further analysis we know that asia doesn't speak with one voice here but everyone wants peace but what about china what would shine a light to see happen from this summit i think that china would be almost happy to see anything that doesn't cause a huge disruption within north korea china would probably also be quite happy to see north korea hold onto its nuclear weapons for now because what it needs is to bility and people talk about china's two priorities one is that it doesn't see collapse of the north korean regime whether that comes around because of of some sort of military attack from the united states or whether it comes around because you see an economic collapse of the regime both scenarios could see millions of north koreans flooding across the border and total instability in the region and that's what china doesn't need china needs to bility in the region because it needs to prosper economically the second point for china it doesn't want to see a reunification of the korean peninsula under us patronage david you can make the case for the last thirty years china has become something of an economic miracle within the context of being a communist country north korea really has kind of resisted following a similar path why do you think it is that the kim regime has been so reluctant to follow the example set by china.
