The End of Dating Isn't Here Yet
"How are men now? Look, let me start by saying, I'm not a 100% against hookup culture. I'm a 100% against the way that it is manifested itself now where it's so prevalent and there's no monogamy. Okay, so let's say it wasn't that common and two people hooked up and it didn't work out and they moved on fine. But what happens now is that there's no dating at the end of the rainbow. So how are men now going to spend all of their teens and 20s just philandering and hooking up with random girls and then settle down in their 30s and become married and committed to a woman for the rest of their lives? That's what fixates me. You can't just turn the switch off once you've practiced that for decades. You can turn the switch off, so okay, so I'm happy to hear that. Since the point of the Tennyson truly podcast is true honesty about life. Vulnerability, our favorite word today. So I will tell you that you don't know this. I don't think anybody knows it, maybe my wife knows it. So I came to teammate late teenage hood and early 20s at the Pinnacle of feminism. When women at least at Columbia where I was, didn't shave. I mean, that's how radical. LA is right. More oil for me. But anyway, so I knew being always religiously oriented. I knew my ultimate aim is to marry be faithful and have children and be responsible for a family. The traditional middle class judeo Christian ideal. But since I didn't find somebody that and by the way, in retrospect, I totally understand why I didn't find somebody. I marched to the beat of a different drummer. I always did. The number of girls in my age who wanted to talk about good and evil on a date was not below monotheism, as you said on that one date. Exactly.
Mall of America Locked Down After Shooting
"Breaking news developing right now in the mall of America is on lockdown due to a shooting. Now, I know some people would like to imagine that this is another active shooter situation with rifles so they can ban guns, but it seems like it's an isolated situation to be confirmed as an isolated situation according to the mall. There's a short video that they posted on Twitter that shows a man walking into the Nike store while shouting and a sound of three apparent gunshots can be heard. Danny, I don't know how this is probably not the person here. Danny raining 22 Minneapolis student was at the mall with friends when announcer came out. Okay, so I don't think that that was him. This probably was a witness. This person said that about 75 people were at the small room, they did not hear any gunshots fired, but saw people running away, the mall marked the 30th anniversary of his opening on August the 11th. And was placed on lockdown New Year's Eve last year when two people were shot during a fight. One man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and another was grazed. So right now it's developing, but it appears to be a isolated situation.

'The Election Denial Movement Is Now Going Door to Door'... Really?
"There's an article in NPR national public radio and it's by miles parks. It's called, quote, the election denial movement is now going door to door. So intrigued by this election denial movement is going door to door. The movement is going to order door. Well, what does that mean? It turns out the guy is writing out of Denver. And he is noticing that in a couple of different places in Colorado. He starts by reporting out of Pueblo and then he goes on to mesa county in sort of rural Colorado. And he is interviewing a woman named Michelle Garcia, who says that someone came to a door. Actually, two people did. And they were, they said, according to Garcia, quote, we're doing a voter verification project. We're working off the city voter list and we want to ask a couple of questions about the 2020 vote. And they just asked her this. Did you vote? And if you did vote, did you vote by mail? Or did you vote in person? That's it. So this on the face of it appears to be pretty benign. By the way, there is nothing illegal in what these two people did. You are, there's nothing that says that you can't go to somebody, knock on their door and politely ask them. In the past election, did you vote? And not who you voted for, but did you vote? And did you vote in person or by mail? And Garcia, apparently claims to be our baby pretends to be highly offended and intimidated, and I don't know again, you know, when you're dealing with the media, you always have to distrust, is this actually Michelle Garcia's reaction? Or is this the reporter laying it on? Because we know where the narrative is going the narrative is that the election denial movement is now taking scary tactics like intimidating people at their front doors. And even though the phrase voter intimidation is routinely used, think of a stupid, it is the 2020 election is long over. How are you intimidating somebody by going to their door? Now, a year and a half after the election, just asking them, did you vote?
The Case Against Same Sex Marriage
"Back to the subject at hand. I was speaking about same sex marriage. Now, let me say this. Let me preface this. I'm a Christian. I do not believe that God may Adam and Steve. He may Adam and Eve. You look anywhere in the Bible, man is supposed to be with woman. Okay, what is the point of man and women being together? To reproduce, a caveat of reproduction and being fruitful and plentiful in the earth, the caveat is that God gives you the ability to fall in love with this person and actually like them enough to continue to reproduce. And then reproduction by and large is the thing that human beings love to encounter and that was done by design so we can have as many kids as possible to be fruitful here on earth, right? There's a lot of space here, and we need to feel as much as we can. That's my thought process. That's what I think the Bible is alluding to. It does not include too me and being together are two women being together. We live in a place that is very forgiving and very open minded, which is the United States of America. And so in the United States of America, the country is not opposed to people who are of the same sex being together in a relationship. We have gone so far to our detriment, in my opinion, of saying that two people of the same sex should be what we call married.

Who Will Be the Next UK Prime Minister
"I do cover the United Kingdom prime minister. As you know, Boris Johnson has been forced to resign and announce his resignation. He's a caretaker prime minister. The 300 and 30 odd members of parliament who are conservatives will pick the next prime minister for 5 rounds. They've got 6. They started with 8. They dropped two off yesterday. They had another round of voting today. Dropped off in the lowest vote better than the lowest vote getter. Then they're left with two and those two people go to the 200,000. Here are the 6 finalists, penny, more daunt, they say it was penny more done. Well, you wouldn't know. You don't follow British politics. Her odds are four to 6. Those are very good odds. She is the clear favorite. A woman is rankings in recent leadership poll far out strut our public profile. The trade minister has consistently pulled is one of the top choices among Tory party members. In recent weeks, despite her relative lack of top level experience. Corelli and her 8th ministerial job, she was international development secretary for two years, and was made the first female defense secretary by Theresa May before mister Johnson replaced
Read My Lips: Inflation Is Here
"Right, let's dig into this 9.1% rebound inflation. Basically one of the reasons why it went up so much in June was because energy prices are really going up. But even if you strip out food and energy, which strangely, these fed economists like to do, I'm like, wait a second, people actually consume food and energy. So they're pretty relevant, but they like to take it out sometimes. Even if you take it out, you're looking at nearly 6% overall core rate inflation. In other words, prices are going up. They're going way, way, way, way up. And the fed consequently is going to have to move so aggressively. I mean, they did 75 basis points. I think they're going to do another 75. People say, you know, maybe they'll do 50 in September. I wouldn't be surprised to see another 75 in September. And the frustrating thing about all of this is that they should have seen it coming, they didn't, you know, typically. They want to believe they're wrong, you know what, right? And that's the problem. These things become political when they shouldn't be. And I use Janet Yellen as a great example, because Janet Yellen over there in treasury was out there saying it's transitory. It's transitory. It's transitory. It was like a big lie if you said, hey, wait a second. No, it's not transitory, which I said. And you know why I knew it was in transitory because these things get embedded right when the social security checks have to go up because they're keeping pace with the overall inflation rate when wages have to keep going up, which is great, by the way. But wages have to keep going up. And so these things become embedded into the economy. And that becomes a whole problem in and of itself, and the reason I say that, a lot of people say, well, who cares? What does it matter, you know? If everything's going up and sort of lockstep, why does it matter? It matters if you're trying to save, it matters if you ever want to retire someday, it matters because the value of your dollar is just going down, down, down.

Amber Heard's Legal Team Are Trying a New Trick
"No, I wish it screwed finally Amber Heard. Amber has legal team is now claiming that one of the jurors, you heard this story for about two weeks. One of the juries who started the trial was not the actual person who was actually called for jury duty and tricked the court. And now amber's lawyers want the verdict tossed out. So back on June 1st, we all know a jury of 5 men and two women ruled in favor, Johnny, gave him 10 million bucks in compensatory damages, 5 million in punitive damages, and the state caps punitive damages at 350 K blah blah blah. So amber didn't look totally loose, but the jury later declared that Johnny's former lawyer remained the same Paralympic interview with the daily mail. Blah blah blah, she gets 2 million. No one cares. We all knew Johnny won unanimously. Now they believe and what gets me is she just wanted to move on from this. That's all she said, a lot of the crime, the tears, they believe that one of the jurors, tournament 15, never received the summons. At the time, amber's lawyers didn't know how someone who was not summoned for jury duty got into the jury pool, but now they think they know. There was a new documents filed the other day in Virginia again. And amber's lawyers claim that a jury summons went to this person's house with two people at the same name live. One of them is 77. One is 52, okay? The 77 year old was the one who was summoned, but the 52 year old showed up and eventually became druid on the 15th. Now, some people think that the 77 year old and the 52 year old also share the first name about amber's doctor don't mention that. So that's a problem for her lawyers to deal with. But it may be a case of like, you know, maybe the sun thinking as far as jury, some of those for him, but amber's finally says that the 52 year old knew damn right that he would trip in

"And there was plenty that john got wrong. Starting with the fact that the unix time coat disaster would really have only been a disaster. If thirty two bit computers were still common. But we've pretty much completely transitioned to sixty four bit and the things that still use thirty. Two bit systems aren't significant enough to cause a worldwide meltdown if they malfunction the unix time code inconvenience also not for nothing but according to tight or we should be in the middle of a civil slash world war he said would start in two thousand five as far as i know no one has nuked anyone else not in the last twenty one years anyway and i'm pretty sure thirteen year olds or not yet being asked to serve in the military. But i'd give that just a matter of time. He also somehow failed to predict one of the worst terrorist attacks of modern time. That happened less than six months. After we stop posting. You'd think he might have given us a heads up about the attacks of september eleventh two thousand and one of course all of that john could explain away by saying we ended up on a different world line than the one. "John tight or hung around the time travel institute message boards for about four months. Which personally. I find an excessive amount of time to be on message boards when you're visiting time before you were born like didn't he want to go out and experience food crazes like gourmet cupcakes. Kale chips and cold brew. Coffee or catch an eminem or beyond say concert. Can you tell. I googled pop culture in the year. Two thousand but this was not his first appearance on the time travel institute website a month earlier time travel. Zero quietly appeared in a chat room which was like a message board only in real time so instead of taking months for conversations to evolve into screaming matches about which brand of politics is the best one. It only took minutes. The tone of the chat was pretty chill and conversational. Basically time travel zero was like oh. Hey i'm from the future just popping into see what's up at first. There were only two other people in the room. Hi hi time. t- greetings. sorry. I can't stop the chat time. But it's way past my bedtime. No problem well. I have been awake for twenty four hours. Oh what the heck. Maybe i will stop and introduce myself to time. My name is john. I'm thirty eight and the time traveller from florida. which time are you from. Twenty thirty six. Is it a good year me yes. It's not far to come. That's right so you've been born as well. That could be confusing. No problem john goes onto casually described some of the things about the future answering the basic if you mess with history. Does it affect your future questions. He explains that. There are infinite world lines which is just a fancy futuristic way of saying timeline so having gone back to nineteen seventy-five he created a new world line where his actions won't affect what happens in twenty thirty six honestly folks. I don't know the metaphor he uses is a room lined with mirrors which is kind of confusing because what you see in every mirror is just a reflection of you so i don't know how that corresponds to creating new timelines and new universitas but you know that line in the matrix where the oracle tells neo not to worry about the vase and he says what bayes as he knocks over a vase and breaks it. And the oracle says what's really going to your noodle later on the broken. It said implying that there is an.

"So i promise you know science in this episode and i am going to stick to that but just to explain this a little further if you were alive around the turn of the twenty first century. You might remember a craze going around. About how y two k was going to bring about the end of days. The theory was that all the computers weren't gonna know how to keep going when the clocks went from eleven fifty nine. Pm on december thirty first nineteen ninety nine to twelve am january first two thousand and it would cause complete global mayhem as you're probably aware global mayhem did not ensue. At the stroke of midnight in the year two thousand. I think they figured out a patch or whatever i don't know i'm not a computer scientist. The unix time code thing is supposed to be like the y2k disaster only in twenty thirty eight. Not two thousand and now you're probably wondering why in the future we a never figured out this patch without having to literally defy the laws of physics and travel through time like honestly wouldn't the technology to translate between old and new code be slightly easier to figure out them time travel and be. There really wasn't a single spare. Ibm fifty one hundred laying around somewhere like the. Us government doesn't have one of those junk drawers filled with old computer courts and floppy disks well title was two steps ahead of you actually. He was thirty six years ahead of you in two thousand and explained that the entire world was recovering from years of devastating wars that had literally cut the world population nearly in half and destroyed a lot of technology taking all the ibm fifty one hundreds with it i guess in a series of posts tight or describes life in twenty thirty eight in ways that could have been taken directly from the pages of a science fiction novel. There was the decades long civil war that began in two thousand five stemming from us elections problems in two thousand four for some reason according to tighter russia hit major us chinese and european cities with nuclear weapons in this civil war which is particularly strange when you remember that the definition of a civil war is that it takes place within one country divided against itself but who am i to debate semantics with someone from the future tighter in his defense also referred to this wars world war three and really. We should cut him a little slack. You think you get jetlagged. Flying across the country imagine flying across decades. He might have been a little. jumbled title. was a soldier at age. Thirteen thirteen have you ever met a thirteen year old. Not the first kind of person. I would want defending me and my country. This war tighter said results in the us splitting into five regions with five different presidents and honestly the way he describes life in postwar. United states is kind of my jam. His family lived in a treehouse community in florida. Ignore the florida part. A tree treehouse community. He said that by twenty thirty six people live much more locally and depend more on family than they had in the twentieth century. Radiation has wiped out most mass food production so typical day spent farming on your family farm. Which you know is hard work but when you sit down to a plate of food you grew yourself. That's worth the crippling back. Pain of relentless farming there are also a lot of blackouts and internet outages. But no one really minds they just go outside and hang out together and tell stories or whatever. I'm not gonna lie. I've been dreaming of reverting back to a hyper localised economy for many many years. It's my idea. A sort of post-apocalyptic. Utopia it would be nice. "Months ago. It user posted the articles and japanese and someone else translated them. The man from torrid it turned out was either named john. Alan keizai dealer zeigler spelled differently in the span of one article and was an american citizen who entered japan with a forged passport from country called noguchi. Bessie goule lu-lu spray. Which i hope. I don't need to point out is not a real place so where torah came from. No one knows and look. The translation of the article also said that zeigler was quote a man who has often eaten people which apparently was supposed to mean that he fed off people. So it's possible goule lou. Lual is amiss translation. But i can't imagine what it was supposed to be. The man claimed to speak fourteen languages fluently and said that he was sent to japan on orders from an arab related agency but was working for the us for both the fbi and the cia. Eventually investigators determined that zeigler was hopping around the world on this fake passport passing forged checks and traveler's checks until the second or third time he tried to enter japan and was caught zeigler or zeigler or zegra or whatever was tried and sentenced to a year in prison. Upon hearing the sentence he tried to kill himself with a broken bottle he had smuggled into the courtroom in his mouth. I'm not even going to touch that last part because no thank you. My first thought was maybe he was a spy but the thing about spices. They usually try to go unnoticed. You know listen. I've seen enough. James bond movies to know that speiser issued official passports from all the countries. If this guy had been a spy he would have handed over a passport from somewhere. Basic like i dunno. Canada no offense canadians. You folks are fine. I'm just saying no one ever suspects canadians. And then he would have had sex with a customs. Agent is hotel room at night. Also where was his government issued cyanide tooth. He should have just been able to bite down on his back. Molar and suffer a gruesome death. Right there in the courtroom. He wouldn't have had to smuggle a piece of glass in his mouth if he had been a spy. He wouldn't have even made it to the courtroom. He would cyanide himself quicker than you can say. Go lulu lual and yes. I do get all my spy. Information from james bond.

"Customs people were like okay. If you're here on business what company you work for the man happily provided the name of the company he worked for but when officials called the company they learned that while it did have a branch in japan. it didn't have one in torrid. It also had no record of this man either working for them or having an appointment with anyone in the company. The man told the officials hotel he was staying at while in town. But the hotel had no record of the man's booking after hours of questioning. The man finally asked to speak to government officials. He was then brought to a nearby hotel to wait while they tried to sort things out. Which i have to say. Hotel is a pretty cushy place to make a weird suspicious person. Wait while you try to figure out if he's a criminal.

"In july of nineteen. Fifty four as passengers filed through customs at tokyo international airport. A middle aged white man stepped up to a customs agent and handed over his documents. His passport from the country of torrid looked official enough if slightly different than other countries passports had to stamps from japan from that year alone showing that this was his third trip to the country. Despite that the customs agent was like Torrid and the man was like yep or whatever the japanese equivalent of yup is. Apparently he spoke japanese french and a few other languages and the customs agent was like I've never heard torrid whereas it and the man was like. What do you mean. You've never heard of torah. It is gone tree. Ask two point two tore it on a map. However the man pointed to a country between france and spain called andorra and was genuinely confused. He said he had no idea what andorra was and that his country of torre had a rich one thousand year old history for further proof. The man pulled out his checkbook but the customs official who had now gotten involved trying to sort out. The situation couldn't find bank matching the name of the bank of the checks. He was also carrying currency for many different countries. Which was what you had to do back before. Debit cards are bitcoin. Or whatever the kids are using these days which at least indicated that he did indeed travel internationally a lot so now this guy is starting to seem pretty suspicious walking around with checks from a non existent bank and a nonexistent country. The customs people were like okay. If you're here on business what company you work for the man happily provided the name of the company he worked for but when officials called the company they learned that while it did have a branch in japan. it didn't have one in torrid. It also had no record of this man either working for them or having an appointment with anyone in the company.

"Go fertilize when the time comes. We go do this altogether and other people. He was also super supportive of his wife and was fully wrapping her as his partner. Like a manager right right and he he's like basically she's indispensable on this arm And it was really nice to see somebody just fully supporting somebody else in that way. Yeah it was really interesting though. Because i had asked him before we were walking around and talking. Like what are your dreams like. What are you looking to do like what's next level for you right you. What do you like. What are you aiming for right. And he told me all these things about how he wants to improve his coffee and what he wants to do what he wants to use his money. And what's his next plan. But you really say anything about his wife at all. And it wasn't until he invited us. He's like he's like guessing like we asked him. How many a reason for dinner. And then of course you're staying for dinner like you're gonna you're gonna stay a have you have to stay tradition. We do dinner now. The last two years right. And then that's when we found that out a wasn't because he was gonna like expose that unlike say i need help and then even though he he wants to make better coffee obviously because it means a lot of things for him like more money more longevity and absolutely this is the actual thing. He needed What he was wearing like imagine. Do i spend this money helping my wife or make better coffee. It's like now he doesn't have to choose. Yeah and he wasn't going to put that on us right. No we literally just sat down around the kitchen table with him and he was talking with us as if he would have been talking to one of his close relatives. Yep that's what it felt like. A is exactly when we jumped in the truck and giggled are way up the four wheel drive hill and damian and and it rained on us down and and then we hiked up to that which is where he's got a bunch of bourbon planted that next year. Probably get our first little taste of And we got to stay in benefit means little apartment for the first time ever on the rambutan farm which was cool too and normally stay somewhere else but yeah you both traveled real easy. We just go right. It was like get up. Go handle our business but those days are long and we only see two people and you only see people. But you're in the moment the whole time. Those moments and that is great about hunters to people visit to people in an entire day goes by. That's it down human being right and it's like four to six hours per person and that's all you that translates is twelve hours a day for four days in a row Before we get back to just decompress right we. And that's the way. I prefer to travel and going into this trip. Not knowing what you guys traveled like and then finding out that we could go hard all day every day. It's my do and hike. I those proper hiking. it was great i was. I couldn't ask for better travel partners. That was actually was great too and it is always cool. Surprise youtube killed and it was fun. It was really easy. We're we're gonna have to do multiple parts of this because there are a lot of stories that are gonna come out just from us talking. That are going go long. It's totally worth sharing them. So we're gonna have to do like a mini series but levi. Herman great people come see them in our cafes and shout them out on your instagram's and world's whatever that means doesn't even matter all right. Y'all we'll talk to you next time. "There you're gonna fall off a cliff dog. We went so into it and he went from straight professional to a bunch of twelve year. Olds and i know time at all. We're all nice and sweaty. Yeah wilson's farm. You have to go straight up and then it's kind of has a backside and atop side and you can see the lake. That was i mean. Yeah that's that's your intros like straight up the mountain with a baby puppy and that little boy who's been there every single year. I've watched him grow up as well. Him and marv l. e. like the two are always there and he just like sweeps up the farm for wilson. He's like a cousin or a nephew or something like that. It's the next generation. He is but wilson never talks about and it's almost like he just kinda like shows up every time and anyway i think he i think he thinks i'm just like the white guy which is funny but i'm down always get him on my camera and he i'd be. I win them over. I get a smile every time but it takes a minute to play tough so we go from there which was amazing. So yes the thing. That was impactful for me this year. Is we connected. Wilson will has got a farm. That's bigger than captain cloud. And we've known. He was going to outgrow us. And we want to continue to grow and by as much of his coffee as possible but he's he's got an we'll have close to one hundred hundred bags on a good year and that's a lot of coffee to buy for us as a company whose nearly five years old and i wanted to show him as we were unable to buy the rest of his coffee that he wasn't going to have to worry about finding partners nor was been meaning so prior to this. I'd reached out to some amazing coffee. Companies aloha in hawaii stillborn chico and vertigo our friends over in san juan bautista. To see if they'd be interested him samples and everything and they all agreed to buy the remainder of wilson's coffee. So it was really meaningful to have that conversation and not be like. Hey we're not going to buy all your coffee this year. Dot dot dot versus. We're not gonna be able to buy your coffee but we have people who are in our community that are going to pick up the rest of this and i vouch for them essentially and they want to start relationships here. So you're covered in as we grow will just kind of slowly but surely either take it back or continue to invest in more of the community and that to me was just not even humble bragging. Full brag of felt really felt really good to take care of that for them. I could see the excitement in your eyes. Every conversation happened. And when you're in the cafe and you walk in and you're like oh. I like arranged this like thing with these other coffee shops. And we're selling extra bags for wilson. Morales it all feel super official. Yeah and like there's paperwork being signed her like like things are happening in that way. Church and what i realized was it was just you calling your friends at other coffee shops and picking up your phone like you're texting your mom being like y'all got this super good coffee and i got this farmer. Who's worth the time. And then every time somebody would lock in. It was like you'd hit like you hit the lottery. I mean he literally were jumping out of your chair. At one point shouting. Somebody might coin on bit cloud. Yeah wild trip or was like we got that pineapple express. You gotta buy some so essentially. I just saw how much joy you're getting out of supporting wilson and how how much of an actual conversation it was. Well did you see his face when we first because i you translated right and so i was like okay. This is going to go well but at the same time like knowing that we're not going to buy all his coffee. I could see his face. Start off like oh shit right. Yep and so. That was the part i was most nervous about. Is what's going to happen to tell him that. And i do feel that connected to show that we need and people can do more. That's the thing you can call your friends. You can be like you want to get on this. Let's do something special. Why not and that part to me. I'm super passionate about so. I was really glad that went over. Well because i did. I watched his face go. Took okay cool as long as you. And then he said right like as long as you know your number one were in this other whatever you need like you get first dibs on the future like that. That exact moment he's like i like. It's not like i work for you but like right you like i do this with you and i trust you that much and like seeing. You said that and he was like. Oh yeah. this is why. I work with you. That's cool. It was a very touching moment a little chicken skin going on because if that's what it felt like me too and that's why i wanted to do it so bad you could tell me we got another one. Yeah it was more like an investment. I guess more for wilson though so so imagine getting to taste this coffee. Roasted by multiple different companies across the united states is going to be like really cool to order a couple bags elsewhere hometown. Get it go to this. Is our coffee. Coffee like we all get to experience this together from different perspectives. Different roasting styles that part is also super exciting and then to get them over to me. I share a love sharing experience. So i love bring you to over for none other than to go have an experience in another country with two people who are impacting our company so well and just to see what it's like. Just a watch you see and i mean even doing that through walking eating damian's table was psychotic. Correct was the very special moment. I think in unbelievable trip. I mean i mean go for it. I mean take if if i were to take one thing away from the trip it would be the two hours around that table. Yeah though way the way life is so much smaller there and to be able to sit around a table and have a conversation with people that you don't know very well because i didn't know them to comfortably be able to sit in silence for more than thirty or forty seconds at a time knowing that. Nobody's waiting on the next text message or television program or bit of work. That was hugely impactful for me. It was like we're just sitting in this moment together and you could feel how important it was and it felt comforting And then on top of that. We were there just experiencing the food that they eat on a regular basis. They were sharing some of the like the way they roast coffee with us. Yeah and what. Their coffee was on the farm which is not what the coffee that we drink here in. The states is like so it was a two hour tour of everyday life. Wasn't that a trip really nice. We'll and that's where we found out that damian's wife needed surgery which she just had by the way. Thanks to the best friends clubs so all of you who support the best friends club. You've heard us talk about on a previous podcast. Maybe mr wiser android link into it. But she had gallbladder surgery because of the extra help in that was we found out that night that that was one of the things on the table and she. They run that far like right. We found a we. I knew but you've found out at the table. They will talk you through like this is a husband. Wife kids cousins. We go pick it..

"Cruz come on by any of the cat and cloud locations. We have it there for you. Basically they're just doing their best to change the copy industry and make your life convenient with their pre portioned pre around innovation to tell all your friends how. How was it for you. I mean we get up there. I mean start. Walking dow was day. One remind me because it's been a little bit today. We picked up the bird houses so day. One on the way we pick up. The birdhouse picked up the bird houses. And i was like okay. We're doing this. It's kind of cool. Yeah picks up the bird houses and it was kind of interesting because for me like i i showed up and i'm like this looks like latin america. I've been to latin america several times and like my family's from mexico so it was like this looks like latin america pretty homey and like i knew the people i got to like me like. Oh i went inside. He's like oh you're coming with me. I'm like yeah. I wanna come in. I want meet. I wanna get to know right. Okay like you because we're still trying to get beginning. Yeah and he's like who is this. He was like test gut. Checking me a little like z. Really nice like this kind of interesting. And then he started. Introducing me. And i'd like saying hi to everyone like to meet his cousin. Forget who else was there. I think one of his. I can't remember but it was really really cool and then seeing how tight knit everything is in. That town was so cool. He's like oh yeah. That guy's second cousins with this guy and like he does that and then like help each other out and then we went to go. Drop these like bird houses that they laser cut. I was like. Oh which. I thought it was interesting but glazed. And he's like yeah. I'm like laser cut birdhouses like the car shop right. So means cousin has a car a shop where they work on cars not unlike your but with actual tools and they're in the background distract anyway and they are going next level over there and then we went to go drop them off and it was. The funniest thing was for me. It was like these bird houses. Look so cool right remember. Who dropped him off to a damian's relatives. It was his chavez which will have as coffee this year. we'll do chavez brothers release. Oh yeah that these look like a like a childhood drawing of birdhouse. They like perfectly square. What they perfectly like gabled roof and like it was legit. The quintessential birdhouse with small hole in the middle. Yeah the interested. The areas thing for me was that obviously. They're trying to invite like native wildlife. They're doing it to like try to like create this ecosystem around the coffee and not just be coughing which felt special in their intention. But the most hilarious thing was that when we danes rather. He's like oh. The holes are too small he's like why you'll get birds in there. He's like i know. But i wanted them for two cans. Can't all at the top of the mountain. Which is what leonel did does. Also he leaves these treks. The top of the mountain. The mountain is all national parks protected. You can't grow coffee. Above essentially one of the highest spots is one of damian's plots of land and he calls it like it's very funny moment happy but he was like put i wanted to. He's make them bigger. That was the day we advert houses. Hi today mian. We'll be back later. And then we went to see wilson and walked this farm with his squad coconuts. Yeah they met us with these coconuts. Which was there like offering like. Yeah here you go. This is like welcome tells. I mean we're were just standing around the wash patient with like a huge huge coconut. If yeah so tight. But talking to wilson and the guy. I forget his name what was his name. Do you remember the older gentleman william. I'm almost positive. It's william or that's a lawyer you know what. No william is the typically the farm manager. he wasn't there now it was last year. Remember he was a lawyer in. You're getting deeper into good conversations with them and it was it was. He's he was still wear but he was getting down he loved. They both like you could tell that they were working professionals. Yeah because they were very intellectual with the way they spoke about things. And you i connected with the wilson in like. I was like okay. Who is this guy was trying to get to know him like. Ask him a bunch of base level questioning because it is. Let's do 'cause. I've never met him in. My life said his name a million times but yeah no doubt and they're very intellectual and like they could you could talk to them about various things and talking about business and like what it meant and what we do and why we do what we do they they understood and actually wilson really gets it like p understands and he follows an instagram and he's so tuned in to what we do and he's so stoked to work like we are with the thing about wilson and damien. It's almost. I really connected with connect with both of them a lot. But as you noticed damian. And chris had this really deep connection. And i felt like wilson was like. He's the innovator guy he had all these ideas so he and i were getting on like that. And then chris damian. Just have this like this bond five. Which i i also i also have. But there's like you know like yes. It was like a wilson and damian and that was benjamin was like you guys are gonna have great relationships with these two people to start and they were original to relationships up there so yeah it was interesting because i i also noticed that with wilson is really intellectual guy with all these ideas he works as an agronomist for the for the national forest services wellesley plants a lot of endangered trees and things on his farm which i thought was really cool as well Geeked out on that stuff is farms think aurora which is my daughter's name so i also kind of like just felt real connected and we didn't know that going into it so they're really really. I mean great guys and i. I really enjoyed that lawyers. Well he had such an awesome presence about him obviously couldn't understand like he knew a lot and i was surprised he's like oh he was telling me about all these bugs like you really wanted to connect with us but you can tell this is in my like i wanna talk to you and talking to him and take some robbings. Yeah we got some robbins. Red bean very professional tap. It felt like a professional setting almost immediately. And then herman started like you know making up and next thing you know. We're on top of the mountain and Wilson's like guys wanna jump for a photo that was so we went from that like having a polo right and i like made this little joke about like taking the cheesiest like instagram photo of us all jumping and it was fully a joke and none of us anticipated doing it and as soon as my feet came off the ground he was in he. Let's go higher so it looks like you're jumping in the cliffs behind..

"I mean walk the world through what. It's like to get up there for the first time because i know there's a few things that you said to me that i'm like yes really interesting. The first time you're up to experience like the proximity things like that. So i don't know don't get after it either one of you. I found it immediately. Odd that as we are driving through the neighborhoods that we could point out different people's homes and it'd be like jagna so and so worked here. This is his home. He produces for such and such lot. Verve buys that coffee so and so produces for such and such lot. Dune buys their coffee and connecting the people with the companies that have been supporting them I knew that was happening but to see them. All on one. St blew my mind. And then we hit damien chavez's house and we're passing violence. We're passing it. You're like we're gonna wilson morales. He's at the end of the block. I'm like they live one block from one another no way. I pictured them in two different locations in hunters and essentially they could like high five on the way to work Yeah yup yep. That's the micro climates right because damian's coffee which i know we can t talk a little bit about like the literal locations and you can share that there's two didn't be three locations or get this coffee but the micro climates of areas so close to each other with a coffees planet. And how they taste like damian tastes very different than Wilson morales that's different than nailing guzman. And i mean no one's a whole different of the mountain but isn't that crazy that they can be next door neighbors and one because of pockets. Being variety versus name does flavor profiles though so close together so different vassily. Yeah yeah it's crazy but it's a lot like wine. Sure absolutely the same thing and if you drink wine you can get ten different ones from the santa cruz mountains and they'll all tastes completely different and we don't think that's crazy. Sure but then. When i'm actually seen this many farms for coffee right next to each other it. It's the same thing..

"House which was very similar but like this one felt a lot different because it was just the three of us right and we were going and we were cat in cloud together And i was kind of timid in the last one. Because i would like you set me knows a part time guy. Yeah and i was like. I can't believe they're sending him a lot like so honored. Not that. I was an honor. This i'm like. I was different. It's different yeah and like this semi win. And i was like i am kabc clouded. Like i'm here like we're going to connect and we're gonna talk to these people who spend their entire lives doing this And it felt very very special to be able to connect with them especially in spanish like directly and i didn't need an interpreter. I could just talk to them and they could just talk to me. And i could tell that they were like it was. It was very felt like i made. Runs yeah aside. But like i did make out some of their numbers. They've like they've texted me a couple times asked how i been. It felt really really special to be able to connect with even just having on the trip. Had i gone without you. And just with jared right. I wouldn't nobody would be representing cat and cloud as fully with our entire like and lexicon and mission vision values. I the point gets across with the way that you guys have like built relationships with each of the producers. But he's able to speak into them in in the language that they're used to speaking right and there was something so powerful about that. I mean sitting around the table for two hours with you just watching body language and being fully engaged in a conversation i can't understand was something really special. Oh it was. Yeah it was amazing major props to you. It is absolutely different for them. The farmer partners of ours to hear from the mouths of the people were working with versus hearing through the translator ben humming who they believe in obviously and trust them shit ton as as you picked up really quickly day one so we got there really really late by the way super tired long day which was better than flying through the night so we just saying we have this history of doing read is this was awesome late at night versus at Six in the morning and then do a full day but that first day out it was like immediate right. The thing about ben has that town little town. Bianca on like your right next to santa barbara mountain is his hometown and he's been there and his family and generations and generations of people that have been have been there for a long time so the town is clean. Everybody looks out for each other and he very much like the unofficial. It feels like mayor of the city. He totally seems like mr president. Like and y'all jumped. Y'all obviously noticed that really quickly but people are used to him kind of being the liaison. So it's almost like when you're with your significant other they tell you something cool over and over and over again. It's a little bit less cool. And then somebody like us comes in and you should try this thing. And then your wife's. Why didn't i told you this like six months ago. It's almost the same thing. I think those happening then is like your ability to communicate directly for the company and sometimes literally for me. When i'm trying to speak. Because i have to learn spanish better and for levi it was really really powerful so i was really thankful to have you there and i didn't. I didn't realized how much the impact would be until i was watching it. But some of that is just you and you being really caring about what we're about and actually identifying with our culture so shout out to you for that. It's not as simple as just bring a spanish. Speaking person you were. You were speaking from the heart and people can see that. Which is i think a gift of yours. You connect on the floor with people like that in the cafes. Well i'm more of like an operational. Let's get this stuff done construct Hannah guy and you have such a genuine curiosity about people's lives and it shows and like i mean there's no greater inspiring connection by creating memorable experiences than showing up from halfway across the world and talking coffee with the people that actually produce it. When we're like you're name on our bag like said your name your name a thousand times and i've never met you but i rap you like that like there's no tomorrow it's like damian chavez wilson morale as we all know the names but to like actually look into the eyes of the producers that are making that coffee. I mean it's insane and you just handled it so gracefully it was it was awesome. You set up the heart strings for both of us an well. But i mean speaking of you. You're like you're like the friend of the children like every time we were around all the kids. They were just flocking to you. I'll tell you this. Much about levi the farmers. They couldn't talk to you directly right like they could to me but what they really enjoyed and they watched you. They're like oh he's really good with his hand like they could tell you crafty that they saw you in the way that you interacted with the space in everything. They did in the couple of questions asked. They're like oh. I'm like yeah you give them a couple times hall. He'll turn this whole place around. Make it look beautiful. He'll have it running like a machine and he's he's great like and they were like the one language i could speak was like hard working. -struction five zero that's built and then even like you said with the dad vibes. It's like oh. I know how important it is that when i show up like somebody greets my kids and like treats them as much like adults as they need to be treated and those kids as soon as you like broke through the wall of like. I'm somebody that's here to buy your coffee and was just like i'm willing to be a goon with you over sharon just like goober out and play and scare and like i mean you kind kinda have to act everything food body language. The essentially kind of your literally clowning around with them right and it was so much fun that i mean. You'll see in some of the footage. I'm sure i've got to run around with the kids. And you know you build little lincoln log out of the fire. would you know. Make a four for them. It was awesome to see you both really interact. I guess we should probably jump in a little bit to how it went and talk through the experience. I mean day one we drive up to elsa drawl and we meet wilson morales to start the day. And i mean just whichever one you want to start it off..

"You don't wanna bring this closer. Herman like don't be afraid. Like the whole thing. You can twist it move it but you want to add all right so special time chris's out on we'll vaca- so we're gonna bring in team leaders levi an herman these two jensen. I approximately. what three weeks ago. A month went to honduras. There's been a month already over. Feels like one of those things that happened like outside of space and time. I mean it did because we're coming straight out of that pandemic and it's been a psychotic time but but yeah i mean. We jumped on a plane and we went to honduras and i wanted to bring you in for a couple of reasons. We have a lot of footage that we're gonna put together but before it got too far down in a way before we forget all the details of it. I wanted to get y'all in here and just kind of talk a little bit about it and see what the experience was like some of the things that i'd hope everybody can take away. Was what is different when you experience a coffee origin versus hear somebody talk about a coffee origin. And what is it about what we do from your perspective. That feel special. And i don't wanna i don't wanna plant new seeds. You don't even know. I was going to talk about ucla. We're gonna talk about honduras so truth be told they don't. They don't really know or going where i was going with this except for we're going to talk about honduras irv exaud. Maybe we'll start. Because herman you said you were nervous so we'll make you talk first. That'll help. I jumped right out of this. What was the experience like leading up and then jumping on that plane and landing. What what was that owes it feeling like we're in the middle of pandemic. It's been kind of crazy year here. You all been working your asses off along with nicole. Our third team leader to get this place stabilized. What was the experience of okay. We're going to go on our first origin trip since march of twenty twenty. Well to be honest when you first called me and you told me it was funny. 'cause leave i had called me before then and he already knew. I had just got off the phone with them. And you call totally. I was like hey real casually do you could on us. And i was like yes and then i called levi back already knew what i called. Calls me all with team leader stuff. We're worried about this and that totally. Let's have some problems in the back of my head. I'm just holding this gold nugget. Oh yeah it's called him right back you you do the whole time and then i honestly until a day or two prior. I had no room for excitement like we've been crushing and going in the cafe. He and i had been working. And i was like he's like are you excited. I'm like i'm not there yet. Like i'm still have lots of things like crush before we leave. Finally we get like dare before. And i'm packing and it's like oh yeah this is happening like we're going and it felt classic like i'm not going to sleep because i'm gonna trip tomorrow. I'm very excited. I'm packing iced. Slept maybe a collective three or four hours and then you call me and you pick me up in the morning. Go and we knew nothing going into it. I mean it was like you're going hundres cool. Do you have any questions like no. I think i just want to go into this thing with nothing. You're saying really doesn't matter. You can tell me whatever you want. I'm not gonna remember any of this. So i'll see it when i get there kind of my favorite part i usually. I don't travel like that. Where i'm like i'm like oh i'm gonna hit all these places but like i was really just like no dude like i'm just gonna go and like you didn't tell me anything i just knew we were gonna do awesome things. Which is that was a little intentional. So yes i do. I didn't tell them anything except for. Here's our flights. And here's the amount of time we're gonna be gone and make sure you have your passport and your vaccinations and that was essentially which vaccinations meaning covid nineteen so we could get into the into the country but yeah. I intentionally did that for a couple of reasons. Just 'cause you experienced you both have been to coffee regions before so you into weight and ongo and went to colombia huila. i went to bogota and papillon. Okay yeah so and we'll tell curated curated trips with importers which i think you got a little bit more rustic version but typically. They're pretty pretty pampered.
