"Want to collide. You know, you know what I mean, like it's not like a random asteroid. It's like we're pulling towards each other. Yeah, well, I don't know if you can really say they want like you understand? The psychology of the galaxy Galaxy wants in life, You know? Hey, Galaxies of feelings, right? Oh, I think I read that science fiction dollars, right where every Galaxies actually living thing, And we were just like the tiny modes on the island of red blood cells instead of galaxy anyway. Yeah. So you don't have to shoot perfectly and they're going to collide. Sort of think about what happens to the collision. You probably think about each individual piece separately. Like we're a cluster of things like a galaxy is not a solid object we take. We're almost like a cloud of things, right. That kind of with me. Yeah, Yeah, exactly. And, you know, imagine to crowds right passing into each other, like One gets off the train and winds coming down the stairs and they pass each other in the platform. What's going to happen? Well, it depends on how they interact, right and how dense they are so we can start with something. The the obvious parts like the stars. Okay, so you might think. Oh, my gosh, is 100 billion stars coming right at us. That's going to be a big deal is that the right size like it isn't drawn made about the same size as the milk away? Actually, I think it's bigger than the Milky way. But, you know, factors a 10 year not important. So it's hundreds of billions of stars. And each star, of course, is really big and you might think. Well, they're heading right at us. You know, this is gonna be a big deal. But remember that the stars are really far apart. Also, like Galaxies are huge, not just in terms of the number of stars in terms of the amount of space they take up unless he and you know, you look around you in our galaxy. There aren't that many stars nearby, right? And the closest stars are light years away. I like this crowd analogy. That's pretty interesting. Like we're a crowd of people getting off the subway. Crowd of people coming down the stairs to get on the subway. It's going to be a disaster, potentially potentially. But if it's not rush hour, and the crowds are pretty light, you know, there's like enough space to crowds can just pass right through each other, like if the stairways and hallways are huge, and people are pretty spread out, it may not be like a riot. You know, it may just be like a busy intersection, right? It's like two people leaving Yankee Stadium at the same time, as somebody else is trying to come in, like There's plenty of exits. Nobody's gonna bump into each other right? Okay, And that's sort of the case with stars. I read this one comparison. Where, if you imagine a star as the size of a Ping Pong ball on average, the nearest star is three kilometers away, right so like if you were going to throw a ping Pong ball into a cloud Of Ping Pong balls where the spaces between them were three kilometers away. You'd be lucky if you hit anything right? Even if you were trying. Oh, I see. Okay, so our galaxy is actually pretty sparse, Meaning the stars are pretty far apart from each other. We're not sort of come together. Yeah, exactly. And astronomically speaking, astronomically speaking. And so there's gonna be very few are probably zero direct collisions where one star like actually slams into another one. You get stellar explosions. I mean, that would be pretty awesome. I would pay for front road seat before. But I think it's pretty unlikely that's going to happen. But you know, there's 100 billion stars running into 100 billion other stars. Surely some of them are going to hit head on, isn't it, aren't they? I mean, there's always a non zero probability you could get lucky or unlucky, depending on which which outcome you're reading for. But if they're diffuse enough right there, they're far enough apart and then all of them could pass through without hitting. I mean, I think probably the most likely scenario is that maybe you get one The Stars also don't have to hit directly to affect each other. Each one is a big blob of mass, which means it has gravity. And so they can jostle each other. I mean, if another star came by and near our solar system and passed nearby, it could affect the orbits of all the planets. Oh, nudge. A planet out of orbit didn't have to hit the star directly head on Nord affect our lives. It could maybe pulls out of orbit or suck us into that other star. That's right. Um, it could it could steal planets right? Exactly or one of our planet's could get ejected out of the solar system. Right? Or it could even kick our star out of the galaxy. Our star is in orbit around the center of the galaxy, right? And if it comes, if another star comes near enough, you could get pulled and so that it gets Out of that orbit. An orbit is sort of a delicate thing it to be the right radius and the right velocity for it all to work. Start going too fast and you reach escape velocity, and our star could even get kicked out of the galaxy. So we could be, you know, sort of evicted from the Milky Way, including in intergalactic space. Just our star with the planets and everything. Oh, I see. So when two Galaxies collide, it's not. It's not. We don't have to worry about things running into each other. But it is going to be pretty chaotic. Great, Like suddenly there's going to be you know, twice the number of stars and that's just going to change everything, right? Yeah, exactly. So things are definitely get mixed up. The stars weren't necessarily smash into each other, but that definitely makes each other up and disturb each other. Yeah. Mm. So I think, are these two messages going to kind of go towards each other? Makes a little bit and then keep going, Or are they, you know, slam into each other, and then become this giant Make a galaxy. It depends a little bit on their relative velocity. If they're going fast enough relative to each other, then they'll pass through each other right. But if if they're not, it doesn't seem like they are. The most like scenario is that they merge. They come together, and there's a little bit of sloshing whatever but eventually becomes one big galaxy. What What does that mean? It's like the the other stars and from the other Galaxies are gonna come. But then they're going to kind of go passes a little bit. And then they're gonna get pulled back in kind of thing like it's gonna like a giant jelly out in space like it's going to go blue move. You know what I mean? But this slow motion? Yeah. Or sort of like things getting flushed down the toilet. You know, they Come closer and closer and closer and circle each other, faster and faster. Uh oh, Like swirly, you know where we made circle each other The two Galaxies? Yeah, and sort of a while being on top of each other,.

100 billion Yankee Stadium three kilometers two people each star two Galaxies 100 billion stars two messages one star 10 year twice Milky Way hundreds of billions of stars zero direct collisions each individual piece Each one Nord one big one each

"The American people are they going to be focused on their self serving interests? And advance themselves and line their pocket books instead of doing what is right for we, the people, So I think that kind of gives us the basis and the test to see. Okay, How are these legislators going to run? How are they going to stand next year when it comes to these key policy issues, and that was something to that They were heralding there and the CPAC and again it was just two messages that just this kind of resounding theme. And that was, uh, for there to be unity within the Republican Party. We've gotta unify and our message and because it's made Democrats so successful in the sense of even though no matter how fractured they appear to be At times, they're always unifying their message to defeat the Conservatives to defeat the right. So here in this case, Republicans need to do a better job and coming together rhinos and conservatives coming together in order to defeat these radical left it because it's not helping our country a matter of fact. The agenda from President Biden. It's really hurting our freedoms and our liberties and national security. And I think again with President Trump resounding on those themes of his America first policies, there's still resignation so many Americans because he was leading America forward. President Biden is leading America backward and we're worse often where we were just six months ago. So that's something cute. That I think is is really key. It's great analysis. "Democratic voting rights bill. Either way, the bill was stopped in its tracks. Welcome in San Antonio, First news National correspondent Michael Bauer and to quote an Elton John song where to now, ST Peter. Well, I think you're going to see a summer of Democrats pitching a couple of different ideas here. Democrats called this the for the People Act, which is the voting rights legislation, a must pass act, but There must pass Act got Ryan face first into an anti climactic failure yesterday and this was for Biden. This was a big top priority for him, and that is suffering a significant setback here. This was a set of reforms. It was set out to protect voting rights and shore up American democracy that was defeated by a tie in Congress. You had all 50 Democrats and Democrat leading senators like Joe Manchin supporting it, and then all Republicans against it. Kamala Harris presiding over it, So this wasn't even about technically the bill itself. This was to begin debate before the vote on the bill, and that failed. Along party lines. Now the thing here is I don't necessarily know that that wasn't part of the plan for Democrats before the People Act was seen as a crucial counterweight and is seen as a crucial counterweight to hundreds of voting bills introduced by Republican controlled states. That seemed to be an according to Republicans make it harder for people to vote. But this is something that seemingly Chuck Schumer has been planning on throughout the month of June. Here, bring some of these some form of legislation to the Senate that doesn't get heard or that the Senate blocks via on some level the filibuster and then use that to attack the filibuster into attack Republicans and that seems to be what we're looking at here, so the outcome Totally was a foregone conclusion. Everybody knew what was going to happen. What happened yesterday wasn't a surprise to anybody. But it seems as though Democrats Democrats were a relieved that they could count on Joe Manchin when they needed him to be in this particular place to vote. And secondarily it just highlighted again. Oh, see, Look, the for the people is just like the January 6th Commission, just like infrastructure, just like covid relief. Constantly being blocked by Republicans. And look for that to be one of the two messages. Democrats will be pushing throughout the summer as they head back home for breaks and then try to get their people at home to put pressure all across the board. The second part will be about this vote about what's going on and what will happen forward with the People Act. We know the by the administration will keep pushing it. They're going to hope and even Joe Manchin yesterday, walking away after the vote was indicating. There would be more work to be done to come together with some sort of a negotiation. He's already offered up, one that offered some of the things Republicans were looking for right, looking for an element of identification required for voting, looking for the continuation of the purge of ballot lines. All of that kind of stuff was in Joe Mansions element, but never got discussed with Republicans. So There's a hope for him down the line that he can get some Republicans to talk with him about it. But you're going to look largely Democrats pointing at those Republicans saying they wouldn't even talk to mansion. They won't talk to us. All they want to do is block block block. Not too many things. If anything more important in this country, then voting rights and I know that there were some people that word you know, urging there. Fellow Democrats to just completely abandoned this push about, you know, federal voting rights and maybe get into trying to get into some legislative stuff that has a better chance of passing. My question would be is the downside here or one of the downsides here? I guess the word to use is what I hear too often is Optics. Is it because it just looks so bad? I think there's a part of it. I think there's another part of it that the optics comes into play for either side, looking as if they want to negotiate. We are completing a negotiation with the opposing side, right. I mean that that part of it. You're looked at as being weak. If you are in a negotiation stance if you're talking about Hayward, Yeah, okay. Yes, I disagree. I think we should have some sort of I d required for voting. Other side saying no, there shouldn't be any requirement for that Make it easier for people to vote. Well, why don't you both sit down and come up with a negotiation on some front there? Why can't you make a clear definition of what kind of an idea would need to be used? And if you can force something? What? We'll have that discussion. Have that debate. It would have been a perfect time to have that debate yesterday. But rather than get caught up in, uh oh, I'm having a debate over something. We shouldn't be debating because that looks bad for optics. They just decided to not go in favor of it. Not even vote in favor of the debate portion of it, Which to me, says you're not even Or you negotiate rather than just make a grandstand of some kind and then hope for a re election. Alright, man, Appreciate the update. As always, You have a safe day. San Antonio First news National correspondent Michael Bauer, It's official. Connecticut become state number 19 that and a very special announcement coming up next. I can't begin to tell you how much I hate mosquitoes. Hey, it's charity. I was actually forced to screen in my back porch for that very reason..

Oh, my God. I bring up the topic, all right? Sure. Yeah, I I didn't. I mean, I look at the bone website every day. Obviously it be irresponsible and reckless for me not to But yeah, Okay. Sure. Did you know that, John about the divorce? Yeah. John and I've been keeping each other off opioids now for four years running. Yeah. Awesome. Yeah, I like that. There's Two messages that I really like there. It's like a campaign they're doing. One is that recovery is possible and to listening out the signs of addiction. All right. I was concerned that it went right into drug replacement therapy and didn't offer drug free. Options, especially for You know, people who aren't sure. Are they addicted or not? They have a question. Maybe they're feeling a little addicted. And they want to Maybe talk to someone or they want to drug free option. Well, you know what your your concern has become my concern. I'm concerned that they didn't mention that as well. I'm gonna run this up the flagpole and get things done about that. I'm gonna take action steps. Thank you. Awesome. Thank you very much. Oh, yeah. "That social repression becomes desire it induces a consequent desire faked image of its object on which a bestows the appearance of independence. Strictly speaking psychic repression is a means in the service of social repression. What it bears on is also the object social repression desiring production but it in fact implies original double operation the repressive social formation delegates its power to an agent of psychic repression and corlett simply the repressed desire is though masked by the fakes displaced image to which the repression gave rise psychic repression is delegated by the social formation while desiring formation is disfigured and displaced by psychic refreshing may jackknifed having a little bit of forth a little earlier when we were saying oh maybe they're connected and it's a hope here we go. This is this is the nature of its psychic repression ends up because of the displacement because of this parallelism you actually desire social repression. You actually desire social. Repression is consequent desire. And it's it's an amazing process that the entire thing takes place and again this is how that parallelism functions at a base level. Yeah i just wanted to add that you can of course be conscious about your displacement sir. That's actually very practical insight to have that you are displacing at sometimes like you. Get like fairly emotional. I suppose I would. I do detect myself. I a self analyze a lot because they think it in my Psycho analytic skills. i remember we should just say to yourself with the that's oakley clearly metal reports and so The thing is that you like okay show. this happens Like a a girl. That's i have talked to in avowal I hit her up. you know. Start for the gophers asian and after a two messages. She outs blue-box blocked. Visual was of course I i felt a lot of fiction because of that bids so i started to go to these things and then Like everything that popped in my head. I basically they are like how do you say they are. They are more or less like linked your make them link your your your make these connections between like different states of emotions like i remember before simple as a child that Or maybe not shout the some sort of adult like I would get if used to participate in like Was picked for the football team. You know i will speak like i don't know Last bits almost lasted the out lots. So that's something that popped up in my head. And i d stig show get linked to the initial act and If you like That because our conscious of that you can say okay. So now i am. I am not because you get misguided often like you think you're working with okay so just go broke me so i'm working this out but actually it kind of The 'tigers other Scenarios which you play out very familiar veto because you want to put yourself at ease did. That's the unconscious part. That is the Like the conscious desire. You know why you decided to question it makes you do is vice. That puts you at ease as much as possible. Wants to make you know. It's there take care of you in the sense so what happens. Is that spoiled for you. Spontaneously these thoughts appear that are very familiar the chew which corresponds To the things you think you should feel and if you will realize that you start to take the these considered these thoughts and move away or like Don't like brooke out the thought of okay Again except for me. I did like to forget about it. The folks will older stuff at all. I was just okay. So let's see what pops up and for example gay a picture las wanting and they started to think about it yeah. I'm kind of like a feeling the same emotion as lead time so let's see Popped up next and next feels like You know maybe an argument I answered my sister which she Made me feel like i also debts. gist it. You know enough to To be it's Yeah yeah to be in relationships. Big is a little bit of big too but the belated people you know On on some sort of of of level you know which which was a fairly mean. Take to say to me at the time so i started to To basically make more or less listing. My of thinks that pops. And then i actually The the the question happens you know Like the the depression which was in conscious. Did it like Like like gets gets effort Like the like still or a to related to this paragraph. sorry i. I lost the thread joe. I'm sorry lost the straight of what you're trying to say. Okay i i could see it could be biblical keith because i this is more like a meat eliminated to myself so i can make a essentially a coke it points. To the point i make against social oppression is of course gorgeous. The conscious effort It's the result of The deciding off oppression so You What what i it's it's it's it's If you you can modify the desire by accepting but it gives you you know if you are conscious that there is something. That's very Passing you you can start to decide if If you are indeed a depressing or not if it does not mean that everything that's like Social passion into unconsciousness Makes you go to that. It is headed to the passion. That still i mean. Of course bull says is compressing your innovative debts. So you can tell this because it features you this to be depressing it can. It can still functional the difference so it's a bit more A concise Yes think connecting did. Yes so. I think actually that bears into i. Just make sure i'm at the bottom of one. These were like novel messages. I'm not even. I am not even joking within the span of a few minutes. She had twenty two messages to us. And i had to cut the god damn thing. I had the chat for the night. That's how consistent she was like. I'd be sitting here and not here. I'll be like all right but it was like okay but it sounds like what the fuck and i look and they're all from google. This shit is not happening tonight. I don't want to deal with politics. Like i try to stay away from as much as possible unless we need to be a new it but had to watch the president's speech because google gavison exactly exactly we had our own fucking commentary like like like it was like watching a golf match and then the mexican deed that hosted soccer's comes in and now biden's stands up at the podium it. Oh my god. He can't hold a conversation with themselves. That's exactly what our messages from. Google the other night so i did you not like what the and it's and it's not like we asked her. We love her and we don't mind it but come on google twenty-two messages back to back within and these are parent drafts paragraphs type skills on on on spirit there. Boy i'll tell you what right. I mean i'm looking back at these and none of them are under a few lines per message. One of them was a screenshot. I'll give her that. And while them was four words loan the rest of them was well over. Four fucking words. I mean one of them takes up my entire message box. Oh my thought. Like what the actual what google like goes. We miss you. Google did biden tissue off that bad certainly not a a sort of want to call them but at the same time i'm like six is asleep i don't want to wake him up But no Just.

"And union beach. Hello pat morgan bloomberg. Joe how are you guys that what's happening. I'm deborah disgusted as everyone else. But i haven't an idea. I did a little bit of repair work catch. And i think what the rangers could do. It's cap friendly. He's a free agent. he's a former ranger. And i'll leave you with this mcelrath. Bring him back about that to somebody. Tweeted me that just another like destroy as many goons out there. She can see people but then again if you do if you do that. The rangers sending two messages. One you're sending one to the capitals the other one you're sending to the front office of the nhl message. Are you sending your locker room. If you don't do anything at all. I mean that's i i just. I know i completely understand the way that the roster is built in what. You're trying to tell me. I also know though that these guys are not just gonna lay down. You saw react. I mean we got thrown around like a rag doll but he reacted reacting because he saw his buddy getting cross in the back of the neck was faced thing yes so these reacted and then he got rag doll now. He's out for the season again. This goes back to how the team has built in what they're trying to accomplish here. And you know when they dismantled the team in two thousand and eighteen. We all understood that there was going to be a growing process. And you know they're trying to figure out you know who are going to be the top six forwards where they're going to pay you know. How much money are they going to have. And what kind of players do they need. In the off season i think in the fact is jeff gordon and christopher re and all these guys they've been around for one hundred years they know. Exactly what type of gordon built part of the The the boston bruins. That's where he came from. He knew lucici and marsh and all those guys when they were the fourth line players killing the rangers back in the playoffs so he knows exactly what kind of players he needs. He just doesn't have right now. John and bellport was john. Hey how's it going. How's it going. Hey what's up. Hey not too much. So one thing that i wanted to talk about about this time wilson situation and i think that it's getting missed. I played hockey at a at a pretty competitive level of george junior and middle america and fights break out all the time as boomer as when we you know right so thing that actually discussed me as a player is an unsaid rule among players is no matter how gnarly the fight is..

It's obvious that everything in the upcoming conflict between the united states and china which appears to be on the horizon and likely with Taiwan right in the middle of it all is going to be weaponized in some manner or another but one thing the who speaking of weaponized organization does not back is vaccination passports for now. That really shocked me. I saw that headline was like wow. They're actually not trying to force vaccination passports that's shocking well Different organizations want them and they want them for different reasons. So airlines appear to be the ones that are pushing the hardest vaccine passports. And that's so that everybody can get back to flying. you know. everything's everybody thinks of flying. "It was this model of those that are around you. You know you don't have to shoot for all the superstars that are up here. Let's look at the people that are around to. They're wrong with you. That are developing with you and some of them. You can make a bet on ten years. They're not going to be where they are right now. Your relationships are rooted in authentic authenticity. The other was c. t vivian. Who shared with me all the powers in the doing it is in the action. The things actually move you gotta realize. The civil rights movement was led by some twenty something year olds. They were early thirties. They didn't know what they were doing but they were doing was talking about change. They were actually feed on the pavement. Trying things out. Everything didn't work certainly. Everybody didn't support him but they never stopped doing And those two messages resonated with me still To this day around how leaders are effective. it is in the doing. You may not have it all perfect and never let perfect. Stop your progress. You may not have it all together know all the pieces are have all the information but are you making steps forward. Yes yes advice in there. And i want to ask you to you your degree when you went to the university of georgia you went to your dogs pick out when you graduate degree in leadership. Wasn't it a speech. Communications actually okay. And so then you have. That degree came out. You've done a lot of things and working leadership. What have you seen change. Let's say maybe even the last ten years what's changed With regards to leadership was headed. What's the biggest impact on leadership. I think leadership has become more personal The model before was the grand worship worthy leader at the top of the mountain Dr king who led a movement jesus gandhi. But i think that you know with the proliferation of information with social media and the internet. Everybody this podcast. I mean you know a a woman in iowa reaches out to a guy in atlanta and we ended up on a podcast together talking about leadership twenty years ago. That probably would not have happened. And i think that you know with technology There's so many other venues for people to have a voice when once before we only relied on media like newspaper. Radio and television to really articulate who our leaders were who has the voice in these mechanisms and now everybody with a cell phone has the opportunity to have their voice heard and therefore positive or negative. However you look at it but everybody has the opportunity to put their voice on the table for their voice to be heard and ford amplify their plenty of people that have gone viral. Just doing stuff. They do every day and next thing you know. They're a hundred million people that have been inspired or had a laugh. Or how smile or got angry I think leadership now we start to realize leadership is returning to where it's always been the powers always been in the people and i think the the now we're in a space that in no even if you didn't have the right amount of money or if you didn't have the right background or didn't go to the right college or whatever those things are that used to hold people back Technology has been a bridge to make sure that if there's voice It can be hurt. Such a positive perspective on it. And i appreciate you sharing that an jay i. There's a million things. I want to connect with you about. But i'm i'm just going to end with my final question. I ask everybody this question and so your final question is what do you know for sure about leadership. What do i know for sure about leadership. I know for store. The leadership is a contact sport..

"And w t o p dot com. The senators who are the jurors in this trial have been asking questions of both sides for more than an hour. Earlier, Lawyers for the former president made his impeachment defense by accusing Democrats of launching a campaign of hatred. Against Donald Trump and manipulating his words in the lead up to the deadly siege on the Capitol. Here's attorney Michael Vander Dean, the first two messages the president sent via Twitter once the incursion of the capital began, where state peaceful and no violence. Because we are the party of Law and order trial is speeding toward a conclusion and there could be a vote this weekend likely for acquittal. Joining US live. Chris Wallace, host of Fox News Sunday. Hey, Chris, thanks for being back with us. Good to be back. So there were a lot of strong emotions this week, particularly when the House impeachment managers provided that video for people to relive what happened. How do you think the president's lawyers did blunting their message? Well, that's fair, I guess is the is the best thing I can say. But, you know, look, they want to get, uh, their client off and it appears that there are enough Republican senators. Who are convinced that they do not want to convict the president, either. For reasons of principal reason. Reasons of politics. They don't wanna cross Donald Trump on. Do you know there's an old saying up on Capitol Hill when you have the votes votes, so they think they have the votes. I think they All we do have the boats, so they had 16 hours to defend the president. They used three hours on day. Just want to get this over with Andre put the impeachment to rest. How would you judge how the House impeachment managers presented their kicks? Well, I think they did a nif ect of job, powerful job of marshal in the evidence and building the case, and one of the key points that they made was that it wasn't just the president's speech. On January sex that it was ah whole campaign of for months of President Trump, talking about the fact that the only way he could lose is if the election was rigged. Then after the elections, saying that the elected that it had been stolen from him, uh, marshaling the support of of his base, but also some some extreme right wing groups. On then, of course, the speech on January 6 Now whether that adds up to being incitement or not, I think they were wise to make it about what had the president had done over months, not just what he did that afternoon. Who do you have on to talk about this? Well, we're going on that subject. We're gonna be talking. And by Sunday this trial could be over the way they're speeding along and it appears all sides feel that they've made their point on. They don't want this to Dr Gone so we could have a vote. To acquit the president as late I mean, is early is tomorrow afternoon, we're gonna have Lindsey Graham, one of the president's staunchest supporters in the Senate and Amy Club, it char Democrat who was very much feels that he should be convicted. And then the other big story is the CDC. Rochelle Wolinsky, the director of the CDC, a top infectious disease doctor. They came out with new guidelines today for reopening schools, and one of the things they say is, you can reopen schools without all the teachers being vaccinated. So we'll be talking to her about that on Sunday, right, Looking forward to it. Thanks, Chris. Thank you, Chris guys. Chris Wallace, Host of Fox News.

"In early march twenty twenty. I was on a plane on my way from boston. to corpus. christi. Texas selena's hometown. It was the early days of twenty twenty the before the country was still flying. People were still out in the street. I'd gone dancing the night before albeit a hand sanitizer on every ten minutes so i was tired on the plane but i couldn't sleep. I was ansi. My stomach was in knots and it wasn't just because of the impending pandemic. I was on my way to a month long reporting trip in texas interviewing scholars fans and all kinds of people for this podcast. Accept this podcast. Of course didn't exist yet and that's because the whole theme hinged on the first leg of this trip this is when i hope to meet with abraham gained nia salinas fall who's notoriously protective of her image and music. I'd hope to land an interview with him and also ask him to let us license some of selena's songs for the podcast. My is thinking was no music rights. No podcast before this plane right to texas. Our producers have been working on securing those music rights for a few months. We'd had to wrangle all these parties songwriters record labels small publishers and convinced them that the project was worthy of selena's music. But i knew that the final deciding yes or no would come from. Selena's family manage to reach selena's father abraham on the phone a couple of times before he wasn't really interested in interviews said too many reporters had asked him to many foolish questions. I told him. Oh this podcast. It's an oh to selena. It's rooted in love. I wanna show her legacies true impact and he was like everyone wants to do that when he heard disappointment in my voice. He told me not to feel bad. He rejected journalists every day. Meanwhile i heard from the record label. They said selena's family would not approve our request to license her music. I tried reaching abraham again. I emailed him left two messages. Nothing so back on the plane. I wondered how things would go down. Abraham knew when i'd be in corpus christi but he'd stopped short of setting an official meeting with me either way. I felt like i had to at least try to talk to him. But i felt this apprehension. This like skittish feeling. I've been a journalist for fifteen years. I've met plenty of people who make me nervous but this fell like there was so much more at stake yes to some degree because of the music rights to some degree because of his famous temper but really it was because abraham felt like such a big part of selena's story a foundational part. He wasn't just her father. He was her manager. Her mentor and selena. Talked about him all the time. My influences were. I would say oh my father. My father used to have a ban the way back. When and i guess it's where we get the musical talent brahmin and i don't really remember seeing or hearing about salina's mom allah growing up. But i remember knowing. About abraham. I was eleven. How Is Your Mental Health?

"Now tonight. I wanna talk to you about your mind. You cannot have an obedient life without having an obedient thought life. So i'm gonna say that again you. You're not gonna have an obedient life without first having an obedient thought. Life and i was a christian for many many many years and loved god and couldn't figure out why just kept having so many problems and i didn't understand the stuff about the mind just thought that i couldn't help what i thought. Why can't help what i think. And i didn't have any idea that i could cast down wrong thoughts or i could shut my mind against thoughts that i didn't have to receive everything that fell into my head and just take it as my own. Roll it over and over and over in my mind. I share that. My dad abused me. When i was young. And you know still after all these years sometimes just out of nowhere. I'll find myself thinking about some of the things he did to me. And you know the minute that. I become aware of what i'm thinking. I just say no. And i shut my mind to it. And don't let it in their. The enemy will sneak up on you and try to put stuff in your mind hoping that you'll take it as yours and if we think about the wrong thing that's going to affect our moods it's going to affect. Our behavior is going to affect our relationships with other people as the man thinks. So does he become proverbs. Twenty three seven and no matter how many times you may or may not have heard teaching on the mind. This is something that we need to hear over and over and over and over and over between our thoughts and our words those two messages that we will never get tired of hearing. You can choose your thoughts. You don't have to just think whatever falls in your head. I used to wake up in the morning. And i would think depressed so i would just get up and be the first all day. We'll now if thought like that comes to my head. I i will probably say out loud. I am not depressed. And i'm not going to spend this day being depressed because the joy of the lord

"two messages" Discussed on WDRC

"The peaceful part of it. I thoroughly endorsed breaking into the Capitol building, wrecking offices and, of course, the situation that set up the murder the killing of a young lady. She was shot by a D. C cop, and that's now being investigated. And I was thinking about over the last 12 months. We've seen two messages come from the political elites. Elites in America. One is When mobs take to the streets of American cities like Antifa and BLM, and they riot and they commit arson, and they loot stores. And in some cases, they end up killing people on doing terrible crimes against people that all of the political left. Says What we have to listen to that mob. We have to take them seriously yesterday. Part of the larger group of peaceful protesters broke into the Capitol building. As I said that was wrong. It was it actually created a lot of chaos, and it did a lot of damage inside a building that belongs to all of us. Having said it's wrong. All of a sudden, the same people who are telling us we have to take the mob in the street seriously on de funding the police all cops are bastards that kind of thing. Now says No, No, no, no, You can't listen to these people at all. And I'm not suggesting that either of those groups who commit illegal acts is right. They're not both of them are wrong. But the answer from the political elites and especially on the left is entirely different On that note. Tom Fitton joins me the president of judicial watching Tom. It's good to have you back on the program. What conclusions did you draw after what happened yesterday in the capital? It was extremely upsetting. I live in the district and, um You know the capital was a special place and to see Lawlessness on danger and violence interfere with the proceedings of Congress. Is just awful, and there's no excuse for it. With violent there were people purporting to be Trump's supporters there. Doing it. That's completely inappropriate on day should be prosecuted if they committed crimes, But he wanted committed crimes should be prosecuted. Of course, I've been calling and I know you have been Constitution of riders. For ages now. Yeah, I was at the cabin are hearing that sort of violence and intimidation and lawlessness around the cabin or hearing The White House has been under siege. Repeatedly. And, you know, they laughed and laughed about the president going into the bunker as opposed to saying what is going on here? I mean, guests of the president. Concerned about their safety. The night of his presidential acceptance acceptance speeches for the RNC at the White House there. I mean, anyone who goes to the White House has to be looking over their shoulder the last few months. Because of the violence around that compound. And so now it is expanded to the other side of the political spectrum. With these conservatives riding up there. Of course, it's not conservative the right or to engage in lawless behavior and attacked police and put lives in danger. But the spreading of political violence Among all ideologies in the country is just terrible and dangerous. And you know our city here in Washington, D C. It's incompetently protected. D C. Mayor can't do it? Obviously, the federal agencies have been able to do on unable to do it. I'm glad there's now security there around the capital now. What a Donald Late What is it a day late. A dollar short. And they came after everyone went home. Not only that time, But don't you expect that within a few weeks that extra security will fade in the result? So you think that extra security is going to fade away in the next few weeks? And then they'll be I mean, remember, we're almost 20 years after 9 11 and we were promised there was a threat. There was a threat to fly an airplane right into the into the into the Capitol building, Perhaps And into to kill a great many people, And they said, we have to protect the capital better. And as you say, 20 years later doesn't seem like much has been learned when a mob of people is able to invade the building from all sides on hundreds of people get inside the building. I am concerned that our nation's capital was not secure against politically destabilizing violence. I'm concerned the White House isn't secure enough. And it's obvious the capital isn't secure enough. So you know, this has got to be a bipartisan approach here. I mean, you know, I know the president's leaving. We have a new president coming in. I am concerned about the safety of this of the capital. I don't want to overstate very good way We've seen it time and time again in the city, where political violence has been able to get out of control because of ineffective. Policing and law enforcement. And the president, you know was you know, he talked about invoking the Insurrection act and everyone went crazy. He should have invoked the insurrection act. More knows if it had been invoked. We would have had better security in the capital yesterday. And yet, as you point out, remember the Cavanaugh hearings where there were people who went into the capital and literally went toe to toe with members of Congress in a threatening manner, demanding that they vote differently on the confirmation of justice Cavanaugh and you didn't hear the major media or major politicians say, Well, those people ought to be prosecuted thrown in jail, even though their actions were arguably Very similar to what happened yesterday. No. They were assaulting people and lawlessly occupying the building, too. And I was out. I was there. I saw it. I mean, they were interfering with the hearing there were screaming. They were being dragged out by the police risking people participating in the hearings. The safety of people participating the hearings, risking their own safety and the safety of the police. And you know, I complained about it. I remember talking. Senators about it. Say what's going on? We're going to do to make sure this doesn't happen again. And they don't really you know, they just People understand the politicians and the tail kind of just float its engine to these to these, uh, these basic issues of public safety until you know Maybe now something will be done. And of course, you know the focus is going to be on suppressing conservatives. Attacking anyone who raises questions about the election and the Great Depression continues. But you know, I don't like violence of any type. And, uh, politicians on the other side of winter knotted violence for their side. And, um, I just don't think any side should be winking and nodding of violence, That's for sure..

A new car recall tool

"So Do you know that? There are so many recalls on vehicles. That, we never deal with things that could be. Actual serious safety defects that could cost you or a loved one, his or her life. And we don't know about it or don't get around to it. So I saw an item in the Detroit free press. That of the vehicles on the road. Get this. This is a shocking number. Fifty, three, million vehicles. Were recalled last year. I that's unbelievable. Fifty, three million. And Some of these things are piddly. Others are life and death kind of things and we just don't seem to. With all the noise of our lives we don't seem to know a lot of times that there is a situation involving one of our vehicles. And it goes blissfully. unrepaired. Till ignorance is no longer bliss and it ends up hurting somebody or worse. So I got two messages for you one. I want you to know. About defects in a vehicle you have and it's really easy. For you to know because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which is the Federal Agency that oversees vehicle safety. Has a new smartphone APP. They're totally free you can download it to your iphone or android. The APP is called safer car. SAF Our car. So we need download the SAFERCAR APP. The initial setup takes you a couple of minutes because you then have to enter. The vehicle identification number, the van for your vehicle. And once you do it. They will give you notifications. Of Whatever problems they're aware of with your vehicle. And it makes you aware. And then awareness is really important because then you can go ahead and contact the the dealer for your brand. Make an appointment. And arrange to get that recall taking care of again. Some recalls are not safety related. But many others or safety related maybe very serious like involving steering braking things like that. And You know. I have a relative who has many van who got one recently. That the middle seats have a bracket problem in an accident. The seats of the van can go flying. Obviously, that something important and you WanNa get it taken care of what if you didn't know. So again they APP. Safer cars for both iphones and androids download it safercar put in your Vin you're good to go.

"Tori welcome to mentally ill. Thank you so much for joining us. In touch with basically because to be perfectly didn't really know much about the charity you but I thought it sounded like a really great idea. so essentially people can reach out text. If. They're basically filling only if they want to chat to somebody, could you tell us a bit about? When you set up the charity and decided to offer that service. He the I'm mental. Health innovations was was founded on incubated. If you like by the Royal, foundation as part of the heads together campaign. So during the heads together campaign we were looking at overseas encouraging people to talk about mental health, but also recognizing that we would need. To help create more faces mock past for people to talk about that mental health. On one of the things that a lot of people said to us during the campaign with the it can be really hard to articulate and say how you'll see Lang. And it can be really hard. T find the right place to have that conversation in the moment. When you ready won't when you really want to be able to to speak to someone and connect with someone and. We were really interested in the idea of text. As a way of being able to talk about your mental health in a really private and obviously silent way. People use text. To be able to communicate at in times, when when was might not be might not be easy possible. Not particularly resonates around Mental House. People offer, find it really difficult to take late. What they're saying tickly Farren crisis. It can be really hard to get the words out. it'll say was we as a? He'd stigma, unfortunately still around mental health and so. Being able to to have a conversation about your mental health. In what feels like a very unthreatening medium, and where one where you are in control, can you talk us through how it works? So say if you send a text to shout won't happen next you send a text to us in it's. Important that it's free, and it's also off bill, so all number would never a pair on anyone's. final. So you send a text in eight, five five eight. And you'll get a series of automated messages which little bit more about the service. And Tell you how to use the service. For example it tells you that if you texts stop at any time, that will end the conversation we carry on the conversation. Media will come talk to you. Let it says? where? Will Pay. You would one of all. Causes Fallen. Tears. Tell us a little bit more about what's on your mind, and then people sometimes say quote lot. Sometimes, they not very much about what's on their mind and the second message. Then goes three to one of all volunteers. We have not thousand volunteers now. They will volunteer remotely at home on their laptops, and there will supervised in real time by all clinical team. So what volunteers will pick, you'll message. anelle typically start by saying something like hi. My name is Katie. Thanks very much for texting in today. I can see you're going through a tough time. And they will just aw a very gentle and very supportive compensation which. Helps to you which we hope pills to take the the passing texting us from. Crisis in confusion three to calm. We help them to explore why that feeling this way. What might help them? who around the might be able to help them with with that dealing waves? Said Very. Very simple. Connection ready with one of the PASSAN. will be that person is being supported and has been trying to have that conversation, but it is essentially a one to one conversation with someone who's just ask, listen and support you. How far does it she? I mean if you felt that. Somebody who is texting was insecurity place. which you ring them back or what? What's the protocol along that sort of thing, so that be in talk? Compensation is on tax. We don't. We don't find if we believe that someone is imminent risk all day. I'm David someone around them at imminent risk of harm. A we oversee what very closely team about very closely with the volunteer to return on the stand situation Iran. And how dangerous will potentially harmful that situation as? We would always encourage someone in a difficult situation, and if they are at risk of a home to contact nine nine nine. Themselves will also offer to do that on someone else's behalf if they feel safer able to call themselves. If however the we all showed this is somebody in all clinical team. Show that this is somebody who is imminent risk. Or, if it's a child, who is imminent, risk we. All clinical team will make a decision about quoting the emergency services.

China, Japan and South Korea meet as North Korean threat looms

"China Japan and South Korea have not had the warmest relations either historically or in recent years but as a meeting in Chung do in southwestern China the leaders of the three countries have today promised to continue dialogue over the nuclear tipped threat from North Korea and to boost economic ties ties which which have have become become severely severely frayed frayed the the Chinese Chinese premier premier Li Li cho cho Chang Chang has has been been hosting hosting the the summit summit through through this this meeting we will strengthen our political trusts to maintain the security stability of the region to maintain world peace to respond to the pressure brought by the economic downturn and to plan for a better future of the China Japan and South Korea co operation as for North Korea asus tested several short range missiles this year which is being a particular concern to its neighbors Japan's prime minister Shinzo Ave kicked off any three of us cannot how big of a model in regards to North Korea I mentioned during the summit they repeated launches of ballistic missiles or a violation of UN security council resolutions and seriously threaten regional security I added that it is important to push forward the dialogue process between the United States and North Korea to achieve north Korea's complete denuclearization June park is a political economist of the national research foundation of career in Seoul but when it comes to discussions of trying to trade links and indeed talk of a free trade area between the three countries has not called any closer to fruition well the investment treaty that was signed among the three countries and trilateral form was in two thousand twelve and it went to a fact in two thousand fourteen but a a massive trade agreement of the three countries hypothetically if it came into force then it would be roughly paralleling the European union's GDP total output per year so it is something grandiose symbolically bird in order to achieve such a goal I think there are many hurdles that remain what I mean certainly when one thinks about relations economic relations between Japan and South Korea and to take those two I mean they've been particularly for whatever day right so with regard to some of the measures that were imposed in terms of export restraints for the three core components of semi conductor and display the formulation and production there have been some improvements in terms of Japan's release of these materials if for exports but I think that there is a geo political picture that must be in our listeners minds there must be some kind of a big picture in terms of the US China relationship with when talking about South Korea and Japan make tensions well I'm I'm sure and maybe we'll get on to the United States but just in terms of South Korea Japan is is south Korea's still insisting on Japanese reparations for the actions of the second World War yes I believe that in the bilateral meeting that was held today there have been a strong assertions by president moon of South Korea to ask for a significant change from the Japanese side with regard to the export constraints right and any suggestion from the Japanese that they're willing to battle on that because of course the minutes of streaming around rikishi Japanese so from the Japanese side there have been political messaging or diplomatic dialogue in order to resolve these issues but I'm not sure how these two messages would actually come into something of a fruition you mention the United States in terms of what we've got used to being the increasingly protectionist noises emanating out of Washington ease fattening seem to be using for China Japan and South Korea to have place an economic ties so the alliance system is critically damaged by some of the US requests for mutual cause burden sharing efforts militarily so that's number one for South Korea and Japan but in the sense of the tree where that's happening it has only been on China but also in Japan and South Korea some of the US course of messages coming on to Japan and Korea and Japan has signed a new trade pact with the United States and South Korea also revised at the US Korea FTA it's been about a year now and it's going into force pretty soon but what's really essential here is that the alliance is not what it used to be I was told to June park she's a political economist at the national research foundation of Korea in Seoul

Taking Stock of the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals

"Amita South Zia Alley Shabana Executive Secretary of the U._N.. Regional Commission for Africa and the Pacific or s cap has warned that the vast region of more than four billion people which she's responsible is set to miss all all of these seventeen sustainable development goals which underpin the twenty thirty agenda Miss Ellie Shabana was speaking to Connor Lennon from new avenues in New York where she's been taking part in the High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development or the A._H._l.. P._F.. The main new end platform for monitoring the progress that countries are making towards the twenty thirty agenda The U._N.'s blueprint for ending poverty and preserving the planet the undersecretary-general began by outlining the message that she wants to get across during her time Oh you in headquarters I is of course <hes> for our region Asia Pacific about sixty percent of population fifty percent of the economy sources of Economic Growth Center of Innovation <hes> Technology Co.. Progress on the fourth and yet challenges in development and S._T._D.'s are still immense second message is the need and the value of regional cooperation to accelerate the progress on S._T._D.'s because without that if countries only work on their own. I don't think we can make now the latest S._D._G.. Progress Report for your region shows. That's the region is actually going. Nine backwards when it comes to some of the goals accent king water sanitation decent work economic growth and responsible consumption and production now. Why do you think the situation is so bad for those particular goals what because because scarcity because the pressure of urbanization cities and then also the management of resources environment that makes it or the situation worse as sustainable annable development also make the water situation worse? That's one second sustainable production assumption that also has to do with the behavior consumption behavior lifestyle with this increase Chris Welfare than to also can shoot more but what you could chew him is something that is actually not sustainable. Are you calling for funding in order to meet the S._T._D.'s we see it as investment like education location healthier basic infrastructure is investment. It costs yet from the budget but the benefits the multiplier ethic is significantly. If you don't have the money then you need also to provide solutions for some countries. Maybe the measure should start from the quite basic one like fiscal reform tax reform but that's needed advice you will be dependent eight has to be e channel to build the capacity whether you give the fish or whether you provide the means on how to get the fish. Nancy Pelosi defies Trump by leading pro-Nato delegation on Brussels trip

"The senior US Democrat Nancy Pelosi gave a surprise news conference that the NATO headquarters in Brussels yesterday, the speaker of the house of representatives going to exit Donald Trump by saying that the US remains fully committed to the transatlantic relationship. Let's get more on this weird for retired British General, Sir. Simon male Siamese regular contributor here on monocle twenty four and he joins me in the studio. Welcome to the broker good. You I tell us more about the message Nancy Pelosi was sending to other NATO countries. Will I think she said today encouraging message I was listening to her her news news conference, and as you quite rightly pointed out, this was a ten percent of the Senate or the congress had come over for the Munich security conference, which is which is a huge a huge demonstration affirmation of the strength of the transatlantic link. And as you said, it is not a bipartisan issue, Republicans and Democrats absolutely United in sharing the values of the of the transatlantic link respect for the European Union. But a huge understanding that NATO remains absolutely central to all values and offering an absolutely central to America's sense of its own leadership role and security, well, Shona she wasn't speaking on behalf of president's Donald Trump. Well, I think I think don't the way Donald Trump says things can often lead to misinterpreted, and and a deep beyond helpful. But some of the things that Donald Trump has said, I think absolutely carry weight, which is that the Europeans have taken a huge peace dividend since the end of the Cold War. And although the security situation has changed dramatically. Sadly, even in Europe with the with the sort of revulsion of Russia. The Europeans have not responded to that by matching there. Their own defense spending, and it some and I think he reflects eight an irritation by the American taxpayer and voter the the Europeans don't appear to have so much stake in their defenses the Americans do so the two messages do need to be dovetailed. But I was very encouraged other the legislature of the United States was so forthright about about its commitment to the NATO line send the transatlantic link topic of Bobby offer relief is this message for say European NATO partners. Well, it should be a relief. But what it shouldn't do is allow them to, you know, just an excuse to go back to what I would call normal jogging. I genuinely think the Germans have been really quite agree GIS in, you know, the the the importance of European security to their own prosperity and safety the amount that they've managed to build a highly successful economy in society, really on the on the back of the American security guarantees, and I think, you know, security does cut both ways. America has a leadership role. It is the price you pay leadership, but we should all be lean in a little bit more. We are matching the warm words of policy and her bipartisan team and meeting. Some of the justifiable criticism of Trump, even they often coached in rather. Abrasive terms so issue over money does remain. And it sounds like you think it has to be interest at some point. I think it does have to be addressed. I think you know, if we've got serious politicians who are statesman as well states women, as well, we have a genuine threat, we have a range of threats which are not as Nancy Pelosi said BI polar they are cyber they are human trafficking in they'll the external borders of of of of Europe, we have built ourselves very, comfortable, welfare state and hell serves all the way across western Europe.
