You think that's going to be a good deal for you? Here, listen to yourself. I want to emphasize that it accomplishes three main things. Number one, it takes the possibility of a default off the table, which means we avoid an almost certain recession because of a first ever debt default. Number two, it protects all of the key pieces of legislation that the president signed into law in the last two years. New investments in clean energy, new investments in semiconductor manufacturing, new infrastructure investments that are being seen across the country. And third of all, it protects Social Security, protects Medicare, protects Medicaid, all these important programs that Americans rely on. We think it's a good, fair to the president's desk. Debt limit deal heads to vote in full House while McCarthy scrambles for GOP approval
"The debt ceiling and budget deal worked out between House speaker Kevin McCarthy and President Biden has advanced to the full House, where a vote is expected Wednesday. I'm Ben Thomas with a look at its progress. The House rules committee voted 7 to 6 to advance the bill, chairman Tom Cole, an Oklahoma Republican calling it a product of compromise. And reflects the realities of a divided government. We shouldn't allow that to overshadow what this bill accomplishes. It would restrict spending for the next two years while also suspending the nation's debt limit during that time, and the nonpartisan congressional budget office says it reduces deficits by $1.5 trillion over the decade, but South Carolina Republican Ralph Norman also a member of the freedom caucus was disappointed. We had a real bill that was going to make a difference. We did in the original bill. This being watered down is completely takes the teeth out of it. And I see why the Democrats vote for it. I see it now. He and Texas congressman chip Roy, who earlier in the day, said not one Republican should vote for this deal. Join Democrats in opposing the bill's advance. Ranking Democrat Jim mcgovern of Massachusetts accusing the GOP of weaponizing the debt ceiling, saying it's a precedent that will forever haunt the nation. One party can use the full faith and credit of the United States as a hostage to pass their widely unpopular ideas. Adding, someday, hopefully not in my lifetime, but someday there will be a Republican president. And you will remember this moment because what you are trying to do is get things enacted that you could not get done through regular order. Ben Thomas, Washington

That's not you know so. It's not easy. It's not like we just had these conversations and it was easy. They were not comfortable. They weren't fun. We struggled with them But we had to keep reminding ourselves that we do want the same thing and that's number three over communicate your long term goals. You know problems happen when you're two different seasons when you are not coming back to the big vision the long term goals the big vision is that we both want a certain type of retirement. We both want a certain type of lifestyle and we both want a certain type of impact and all these things we just happened to be in two different seasons right. I just coming out of a massive push season. I want some space allen. Some fun you're in a massive push season. You already had some space yet. Had some fun and so you need to over communicate your long term goals because when you can stay centered on the thing that unites you when you can stay centered on the thing that bonds you then that makes it easier to coexist in two different seasons an honor where the other person's at cia it's interesting i had to like really look at where i was making up a story as well like like what story i wish i i'm choosing to adopt. Just as far as do. I have to be burnt-out. Can i actually not travel. Because i started with like. I don't wanna go anywhere. You know like i just wanna be grounded in of. That's not even a. That's not a compromise. Because i started with like. I don't wanna leave all this year and then it was like okay. Could i actually leave for a week or two. What would that look like. If i feel like i need to be working with you know. Lauren who has essentially my amazing partner in building this right now. What would that look like if she had to come with like if okay. If i'm getting maximum work and we just plow through everything. What would that look. Like if maybe i met her for a week on the road and then the other week it was without her and so getting really creative. Like if i okay You know we had the discussion. Like i don't work great in the rv like we can travel across country in it. But what would it look like to maybe potentially get an airbnb Once we get there so i can have better working space. I think it's just getting creative in your season. And saying where can you compromise and where you not willing to give because entering that conversation with friends and family is going to be a little bit easier than you being like. No this is what i want. It's like okay. We know what you really want so like. See what your north star is but then see where you can compromise. you know. that's a great segue into us. It's time to try new things as number four year saying. Hey my story is. I operate one way but i'm gonna use this opportunity to try. New things will play souped ideas. I'm why couldn't my team come to me. Why couldn't we you know do different plans of what we saw. For example. my voters are trying new. Things is. I wanted to be on the road. My mom who spends winters in arizona and spends summers up at the lake house in wisconsin. She had to go home and k seventy two year old bomb you know. Grab your own dog and drive your own self cross country. That's not right. I saw an opportunity. Wait if i want to be on the road in. The motorhome is here. And i need help. Mom get home. Why don't i make vacation with mom out of it and guess what it turned out to be awesome created so many epic memories that we would have created otherwise because we tried new things. And then what did i do. I said hey. I need a co-pilot on the way home so i asked your dad to come back with me and you got to come back. And i got to spend a whole bunch of days with him. Getting to know him. Better and creating new memories. With laura's dad that i went have created otherwise so trying new things out of a situation where we're a different seasons actually resulted in brand new gifts that we would have had otherwise And so it's just a really good point number four there is don't be afraid to try new things. Don't be afraid to play super idea. Time as as we call it from our friends. Robin kim migratory. Because that's when some of the hidden gifts show up you know and i think one of the things. I'm really tapping into is when circumstances aren't going my way and they're less than perfect. I'm always like it's never perfect. But how can you show up in this. Like how can you make the best of it. And i think as entrepreneurs that is where that's that's make or break like if you can't show up in different circumstances you're never gonna make it so using the different circumstances as life school as exercise as the. I don't love this. This is not perfect. I don't wanna be here right now in building this but can i just like make it work. That's how a lot of days look if we're being real right like oh my god. We have seven people in the house today. The dogs are barking. We were supposed to be recording modules or podcasts. All day not ideal can't change it. How are we going to make it work. I don't want to be in the rv. I have no cell service. I have no wifi. let's say in the past. Were fixing that problem. Okay not ideal what can you do. How can you fit that into a smaller pocket. Or how can you stop at a truck. Stop and get as much as you can done. Like and those are random examples. But what i'm trying to say is how can you make it work in a less than ideal circumstance that and number five is fine to people in the same season as you and this is something you've done really well guess i'm finding some my guy friends where as you know i go and we fly. We meet up. We meet once a month to have dinner so i can keep those relationships because we are in more of a fun summer season something we always do but now we're really doing it right and laurie. You're finding people in the same season as you. People were like in go mode is and understand some of the situations that urine. Yeah i like when. I'm in that season that urine. I absolutely want to be surrounded by those people. To thrive in it really utilize it and enjoy that energy of like a bit of freedom. A bit of exploration of space which always brings the best ideas right in. I'm already in idea about and now i'm in implementation integration which i want to be around those people who are also in it You know. I only want to talk about business. I only want to like. I wanna work on the weekends. I wanna have a little bit of fun. But like i wanna do everything that supports it. I want to be as healthy. As i can be right now to support my energy levels in my mind my mindset and all of those things i wanna only be talking about how. This vision is going to come to life. I only want to talk to other business. People who are talking about the same thing like it's challenging for me to just talk about. I don't know not business. And i want to honor that because that's how you get something burst into the world and You know i think yes. Can it go to unhealthy point. I'm sure but who's to say. What about anyone's life like. That's that's kind of where i struggle as well as who's to say that they're not just in a season that's just isn't there years to get something huge burston out into the world or it's their season. Maybe not do that the only way the you find the answer. Those things is by honoring the season year end. And so what do you find yourself in different seasons with friends. Different seasons with significant other's differences with business partners guys. This can actually be a really beautiful thing. Follow these tips right. Honor your season as for what you need over. Communicate your long term goals Use this time to try new things and find people who are in the same season as you to support you you do that and you can actually find beautiful things and accelerate whatever season. You are in and have a win win for everybody guys. I hope that this helped you just to like settle into where you're at. Let it be okay. I think that's the biggest thing is like. You could literally be together in order to record. And here's one of the things. A lot of people will record their podcasts. With what we call a long time meaning You're recording this month. A whole batch of podcast come over the next few months laurien. I typically like to do more real time podcasters. Not a writer way wrong of doing it but i know for my solos and even for these. We'd like to talk about what's real and a moment was going on right now You know what. What are we in countering. What are we working through. What's happened in their lives and and So that's the way that we record these. Unfortunately i was on the road for two weeks which is going to be a part of this podcast because his podcast titled how to survive. When you're different seasons yeah and and could we have done that quite possibly but we just had this moment where. It was like so stressful. For both of our schedules. He was on the road. He couldn't get anywhere in. We were like you know. We'll just let it go. Yeah there are times and business when you need to just let it go. And we are super consistent pretty much everywhere in life well in mesa great lead into how to survive when you're in two different seasons so let's start with the basis before we showed the tips of what it means to be in two different seasons because we're talking not just two couples who might be in two different seasons. We're not talking. We're talking not just to business partners. Who might be two different seasons but also to france this time in your life where you find that. Hey i'm in business mode Business building mode or season and my friends are in like going out and meeting new friends. Vote yeah i mean if you're in startup phase at all if this is new to you and you're like switching gears or pivoting i'm guessing your friends are probably in a different season. That new york exactly so if you're a couple that's different seasons business partners that are in different seasons or friends or different seasons. This podcast is for you and the first tip. The most important thing is honor your season. Don't back down from the season that you know you're in guys. Some of the big challenges of the biggest problems in life come from yuna honoring. Either when you need rest in your season of rest or when you're in a season of push because baby you are ready to go. Yeah it was really interesting. I kind of like after my book. I took a year to kind of figure out. My life and i was definitely a slower season meaning. I just had ever knew what i was doing. I knew i needed to show for my podcast. Certain launches things like that but outside of that. I was of taking some time to myself to figure out what i wanted to do next. And it was really interesting. Because i was in a slower season a very contemplative season and then when i when i realized what i wanted to do next i was really in like rocketship mode and it's funny as soon as i switch. This is going to happen. You guys to the slow season. All i saw was like my friends hustling and then when i became an rocketship mode this message amongst a lot of the people i was hanging out. West started to come into like this. Go slow. surrender. Stop hustling hustle. Isn isn't and while yes it's true. Permanent hustle is not healthy. I was in the telling a woman who is giving birth to a child to stop giving birth like. That's how it felt. I was like this idea needs to come out. I am in rocketship mode. Like don't tell me not to use everything that i have to get this out there so i wanna give you permission first of all for whatever season your en en route to honor that and know that it's something that has to come out and you can't stop in the middle of the birthing process just because you're not being supported or your friends aren't showing up for you. So how are you going to get through that and just like the year where you are taking a lot of time off the faroe what you really truly wanted to do next. You couldn't not honored that season either or you continue down the path of doing something. That was no longer as fulfilling and it went. Have given you the ideas of got. I know what i would do next. Yeah that's really huge. You know just even this last weekend. I almost works through the whole holiday. Weekend and i had a moment on sunday where i was going to work on sunday and monday and i was like wait. I know this feeling. I have a lot of creative things that need to come through. And if i end up working i'm not going to have space night. So many things come through for me from just even just two small days of space. So i want to let you know like when you are in that mode of slowing down there so much happening if i didn't if i wouldn't have slowdown i wouldn't have had days and days and months and months to ask different questions and really look at it from different angles and my company would not be born right now and i already know that it clear and so with this first tip of on your season we also have to understand. There's big seasons and mini seasons so the big season is. I'm taking six months off to rest and recoup and i'm get back grinder Big seasons are hey. I am starting to start up a raising money. I'm launching the business right. Those are six to twelve months seasons or sometimes twenty four months seasons but the mini seasons are. I need three days to completely clear everything. Even though i'm in a push season because i need a breather perspective. I need some clarity. I need some space. And so you're going to have many seasons that are the antithesis to the big season that you're in and that's always the way it's going to be but number one on your season number to ask for what you need and you've done such a good job of this and let me frame it so you know here. We moved from l. A. to One of the things that you know about arizona's is just too damn hot for three to four months and so the plan all along was. Hey we're gonna live here in arizona than year we're gonna escape Using that awesome motorhome that we have for you know three to four months and go somewhere cooler. And we've had a boat that we keep a at a lake oprah wisconsin and we'll go up there and we'll see the country etc cetera except even though the broad plan that doesn't fit lawry's seasoned right now and she's done a great job of asking for what she needs as tip them to ask for it. you need. She hasn't been afraid to say chris. This is not the year for that chris. This is not the year. I could be on the road for three months. Chris this is not the year. I could be up at the lake for three months. This is the year. I need to be here in. Sure we could have a couple of mini getaways We can have a smaller abbreviated time. Not the three months. But i can't do the three month thing this year because this business is made you know this is my make or break it moment. This is my push season. And because she is so unapologetically asked for what she needs. It's been easier for me to know what operating with. And it's been easier for me to understand how i can support her instead of making assumptions. We're going to do one thing and then all of a sudden out that we're gonna do something different. Yeah in it. It wasn't i if i'm being super real. It wasn't easy for me to ask for that. Because i knew that i was breaking your expectation of what you wanted You know maybe what you pictured. Maybe what you had carved out near season. And i knew it was a big ask You know. I know that you have this motorhome that you want to be using. I know that you really want to be traveling. I know that you are better at working from anywhere than me. I really struggle. I don't want that to be my story but it's just kind of like i feel very grounded when i'm in one spot working in creating You know what my by staff that. I work with daily here that i like really really work. Well with that holds me accountable and i i show up really well so that was actually challenging. And you and i you and i had some fights over it and You know and a lot of it is because of what. I was even the stories that i was building in my head but it wasn't. It wasn't easy but we you have to keep on coming back and having conversations around it in one thing that we said during some of maybe are are heated moments or maybe only my heated moment. I'm not really sure what it was. All heated it's june in. They're all frigging hot zone. Okay was we had to keep saying. Hey hey we want the same thing like you said at once i set at once. I said it like five times differences.

"Get to a place of being comfortable. if we haven't decided to change our motivation strategy then we can often always try and be motivated by pints. We actually make things harder for ourselves. Because we're trying to push away from pine we create pine we create drama. We create things in our lives and businesses. That a painful enough that we feel motivated to do something about it right. It's very unsustainable. It's quite exhausting. there's no need for it. We can actually work on shifting it in the way that we do. That is two different things. So if you recognize that you're in that place where you sledding to get comfortable or if you recognize that you said to sabotage yourself and you feel motivated again once you feel comfortable again. Then it's deciding to actually change your motivation strategy. So firstly it's shifting from needing to get motivated to creating momentum then what you wanna do is not to reset your goals so often we have gotten to a place. We've achieved a certain level of success and we kind of like take our foot off the accelerator where we hit the brakes or we even get to a point where we go. I never thought this was even possible getting to here and now it's like oh my god. Do i feel an easy here. Do i feel safe. I feel like what do feel and sorry. We can be in this real on as of not knowing how to feel in those moments and then from that place we would usually be motivated by our feelings and so then if we don't feel motivated by cause more pain within a reactive to the way that we feel so. There's a couple of different things that you can do here so when you recognize that this is what's happening for you. We want to shift motivation from pain to pleasure and the way that we do that. Is we re evaluate where we want to guard so often like..

"There was a collision of two different Americas that was evident in this trial. And that it wasn't about the fax wasn't about guilt or innocence in some ways that felt it at least to me about the defense of a particular way of life alongside of deep seated self political interests. And those two things mix that become a deadly mix an interesting sorts of ways when it becomes when it comes to the safety and security of our democracy. This collision of two different Americas is something that President President Biden will have to address. How do we talk about the underlying values that connect these two Americas? How do we begin to bridge Because what we saw and what I'm hearing out of the mouth of Senator Lindsey Graham, R folks who hold a different view of what this country should be. And the tri alot of what we are, in some ways in the trial reflected that and you know what it reminded me of Willie. It reminded me of those trials in the context of the 19 sixties in the South, where there was no concern about guilt. No concern about the fax on Leah defense of a way of life. That's what I felt. That's what I saw, and we have to figure out how we're going to address it. Oh, my gosh. Now we get that the the acquittal of Trump is Some kind of, you know, white supremacist plot or or this is part of the Propping up a white supremacy. I mean, the left it really It really does feel like they're living in an alternate reality. President Trump did not. It was not an insurrection. He did not call for an insurrection. It was not a white supremacist insurrection. You go down this whole list of all these things that keep saying all these things. And it's exhausting. It's just simply exhausting honestly. Have to always go into it and sake, stop lying. Stop lying about this. We don't need We don't need you to do this anymore. We've heard enough Trump lies. He's not president anymore. Please stop. But it's just the way the audience for the left has been trained. It's the way that they've been convinced to approach these things. This is this is where it all is. Right now. This is their focus. They can't point to the genius of the Biden administration. That's for sure. I mean, I've known all along One of the challenges that they were gonna have is trying to prop this whole thing up. The Biden administration. Was going to be so Inept. And it would be so obvious to everyone. What would be able to see is just well. Exactly this. We'll be able to see is the bite administration over promises and under delivers. And simply doesn't have the ability to govern in the way that it led people to believe it's just not going. Happen. And yet, here we are. Here We are the bite administration getting all kinds of Support from the media. And where does the Republican Party go Right now? This ability to you'll see a lot of this. We'll see a lot of this Jeff Flake. I mean, this guy that he gets any air time anywhere that anybody cares with. Jeff Flake figs about Anything is remarkable. Although he's he's kind of like the Lincoln Project, which is also having a very bad month. The Lincoln Project, which only exists on Lee gets credibility because it pretends that they're fake apostates right? An apostate of someone who leaves a religion. In this case, it's someone who would be leaving the Republican Party. But they're not even really that they were never Republicans in the first place. They were whatever they have to be there. Just mercenaries. They were never ideologically invested. They never cared. It was never about the cause. Was by lining pockets was about making money. Anyway, Here's here's fake Flake plays 16. If you look at what's happened since President Trump was elected, we lost the White House. We lost the happier than 400 legislative seats nationwide. So there's really no future with Trumpism. "All of his music, even his allegedly composed pieces sort of blur the distinction between the composed in the improvised He's sort of an alloy of composed and improvised music. And, in fact, Alloy is the name of one of the records that tie Sean Story has recorded. And which will hear a bit of his well on this edition of new Sounds. I'm John Shafer will check in with Tai Shan story, And here's some of the music as it was recorded by the crash ensemble in Cincinnati at the music now festival in just a moment. But let's begin with this piece called Cascade in slow motion from Taishan stories trio and an album called Verisimilitude. Yeah. Yeah. Tayshaun story trio with Corey smiled on piano, Chris Tardini on base tie, Shaun himself playing drums and percussion cascade and slow motion from a 2017 album called Verisimilitude. Hi Sean. Story featured on this edition of new sounds. He is composer conductor improviser. He is winner of the MacArthur Award. The MacArthur Fellowship, the so called Genius Award. And in the spring of 2018. He was one of the featured artists at the music Now festival in Cincinnati Festival that was started by Bryce Designer the guitarist from the National who was also a sought after classical composer and, like Thai, Shawn Easily exists in and between several musical worlds. And so it seemed to me that this was a kind of particularly appropriate festival for Thai Sean Story. So, Taishan it seems like we're getting to see and hear two different sides of your music right here at the festival. Definitely it Z So great to be a part of the festival like this. And you know, I like being in a place where it's you know, neutral like this. You know where this sort of idea of Genera mobility. You know, it's sort of allowed, you know, because often you know, it's a lot different from let's say a jazz festival. You know where, you know people kind of expect, you know, one kind of thing. You know when you participate in something like that. But this is far different from that. You can't really expect anything. And as my model usually goes, if you come to any of my concerts, like, do not go in there expecting anything. Just go in there and listen, and that's all that. You know. This is this is just the only requirement you know in the music. You know, it seems that people try toe. Going with some sort of expectation about what they're going to get, and then when they don't get that, then you know it's just set themselves up for failure in that way, and then they're disappointed in music, and it's like, well, I don't want people to be disappointed. You know, so just don't expect nothing. And then you know if it inspires you great, And if it doesn't in order so many other people you can see who will inspire you. And so that's how that goes well, but there's also something to be said for people walking with expectations, which would then completely subverted because I know for me. That's all. Those are often the most memorable concerts where I thought I knew what I was in four and I got something totally different. Yeah, well, that's test. There's something to be said about that, too. For sure. I definitely agree. So we have two different Events here. One of them is your music played by the crash ensemble. Right? The Dublin New Music group, and then we have the Tai Shan story trio. Right? Do you see it is two different sides, or they kind of coming from the same place kind of coming from the same place. I mean, not say, um Well, the process. Obviously, the music making process is a different I mean, they're dear music making processes of different from one another. In terms of you know how chamber ensemble musicians operate versus how so called improvisers whatever operate but in terms of the language of the music. All of that, In terms of you know, the spontaneity, spontaneous aspect of it. I'd say that they're definitely you know, they have similar similar senses of belonging to one another, I would say. So tell me a little bit about the pieces that the crash ensemble is playing. Well, the question someone will be presenting a version of my real time. A little sketchy as Aum's, which is a hybrid conducted improvisation language that I've developed out of my work that I've done with Butch Morris as well as the work that I've done with Anthony Braxton. And also a lot of my own props and gestures and visual cues and things like that, for the ensemble toe do in real time. So in a sense, you know its composition, but at the same time, it's also Sort of improvisation as well. You know, that is Tai Shan. Sorry. Recorded at the music now Festival 2018 in Cincinnati on did he conducted the crash ensemble? The auto sketchy as Mum's The word Scared E. ASM is an obscure and perhaps even obsolete word that Essentially means kind of improvised writing. So these air auto sketchy as Aum's that Tai Shan story has written but which he also conducts. Using the techniques of the late Butch Morris on Anthony Braxton. Walter Thompson, here in New York has also done this conducted improvisation sort of thing, and we'll talk a bit more about that. But here is Some of the performance by the crash Ensemble from Dublin. Conducted by Tai Shan. Story. Okay? Okay? No. Yeah. Mm hmm. Auto sketchy as Aum's by Tayshaun sorry the name refers to a kind of extemporaneous or improvised writing, and in this case It's.

Well, Happy New Year deal. Yeah, I have a question. I have anyone burning fireplace that we used to use all the time. It was exactly thing on every summer would have it cleaned and reamed and everything. That's fact that about 78 years ago when I had it inspected, Red tagged. It basically said, we either head Chimney fire. Or that Sidney got struck by lightning in the flu assault craft. So that point when they gave us the price between, like five and eight grand to fix that, I told my wife, the mantle is now a decorative tank. Oh, uh, I'm looking to get it fired back up again, and, uh, when they talk to me, they had two different options. The place looked at it, Uh, toe, just fix the problem. One of them was almost taken us squeegee and almost like squeezing and some practice, worried to see all the crack. And then the other one WASP. The insert of a Thing with steel flue liner all the way up it down, because sound like two options to fix something like that. They certainly do that more. The two of them more. We use that product as well. The stainless steel liner system as long this put in, and the Ul listed system is a great alternative as well. But just to encourage I would Whenever you've got damaged like that, everything like that is verifiable. So I don't know how they Showed it to you if it was a video camera what? That isn't that isn't a normal ballpark range, so I don't think Astronomical or anything like that. But I would definitely get it, you know, checked out and verified. You know, it's like anything in life and get a couple bucks and you No way, but your best option would be. What do you know? Is that something? Homeowners insurance could typically cover I'm never the question for my insurance company. That is that's up to you See, Commonly that the Inter take You expect my lightning that you had a chimney fire. Um Definite something insuring my my experience that last 40 years? Yes, I've seen that where it's covered, but you know it. Definitely, you know, talk to your agent. It doesn't hurt to ask and get him out there in love out. And if you got the video or can get that video if they showed you on, get that for them also. So good luck with that bill. I appreciate to call and I've got a real quick when we got about 40 seconds left, Jeff Alright fireplace on the first floor fireplace on the bottom smoke coming through the basement fireplace. Any quick cures. There are quick. Here's one would be atop mount a damper on the lower level fireplace to stop that crossover if it's coming from the top, But if it's Breach in between them. Then we've got to figure out what what is happening. They're so increased in the height of one of the flu's compared the other is always an alternative as well. So That would be something that you know. You get a member out there, Toe look and running a check it all out. How often should we have our chimney inspected and our fireplace inspected annually. Annually..

"That has two different sets of lyrics. The first written by Oscar Hammerstein, the second and Otto Harbach in 1934. The second written by Dorothy Fields in 1935. Two sets of lyrics share little, but the common refrain of I won't dance. The second set of lyrics is the much better known one and the song in this form has been covered by many artists, including Sinatra. Here's The Live version of I Won't Dance. E won't dance. Don't ask me I won't dance. Don't ask me. I want them with you, Madame. My heart won't let my feet do things that they should do. You know what? You're lovely.
