"Notoriously and not. it's not notorious. that's not the right word. I guess historically mixes high and low products. Because i think we're young to have the income to be able to buy only high end products and also it's the same with skin care and the whole rise of knowing product ingredients and only buying the ordinary. Because you feel like. You're getting whatever's cheapest and what's best if you're finding something that works and it's drugstore jesse is all over that they're not gonna pay extra money for the shiny packaging. I'm so curious about mabley. No because a lot of other brands disrupters that weren't like traditional retail outlets. Yeah consumer i and maybelline was like the same as Covergirl revlon back in the day. Clearly those two brands have been struggling with honoration but wise Like do you like mabley is popular. I personally don't use many between products. I think they're finney conceal her. Because i had a family member who had bought it for me. But other than that to me i think maybe it's just their hero products that are keeping them going like almost like the mascara. Scott yes yes. Sky high one s do that alone could have made this whole year's worth of data kellyanne. Oh you mean sarah being number two for skincare. It must have been all the boom and the take talk brands. Tease which we talked about a couple of weeks ago. and also just like price point and product development wise. It's like they're creating really really specialized product. They know how to listen to z. In make what they're looking for and also historically like my sister vegan. She's been vegan since she was seven. "I sit down with bobby. She is the co founder and creative director of sasha and bobby and also co founder of the newly launched the good cloth company because i linked sasha and bobby with formal evening wear. I wanted to ask bobby about necessary. Pivots since the start of twenty twenty. Plus i wanted to know how she and session. Her husband pulled off the launch of a second brand mid pandemic welcome. Bobby hi thank you for having me So yeah it's kind of fortuitous. How we are here in the strange time by trying to make the most of what we have our brand of course was a elevated eveningwear line and over the course of time for the last three years. We have been actually looking at the business. Say how we can scale it how we can actually make it a little bit more. You know kind of all things occasion whether it's day all evening so that a deliberate attempt was made by ass. Wanna say by this twenty nine hundred so went so we had started that any way Luckily we used our website to showcase of you know whether you would soon be clothing during the day with its for luncheon or whether it was for a meeting all whether it would be a day wedding so so that graduates shift had actually started internally from us a end of thousand eighteen early twenty nine hundred anyway and i think the pandemic helped us to push it little faster so that was important to us and we see a lot of data come through our website. We see a lot of data. Come to our church that actually is responding to the run We get because there was the demand mean last year was a disaster for all of us because all of us were told not going anywhere on so we actually internalized that. Actually you know The talk was always there. We kind of put it into action. Twenty nineteen but we did. We added more Silhouettes designed details and all of that for this spring. On was that is brandon the entire entirely. You know where you have day viewed fabrics like linen. That never used in the past. We used we consciously made the The citizens of buying fabrics and producing them in that particular place. For example. If you bought the linens from we would make them in robotics. If you buy this caused from china we would make it in vietnam so we deliberately internally started You know thinking that it's better to buy local wherever it is from denim board as opposed to mind fibers from vietnam shipping them to india. It's just the freight the back and forth off it. I think all things that we were thinking of as a brand anyway over the years we had to put into play last year and this year so it all kind of came full circle now and i feel. This is a resurgence rebuffed for brandon. Away so They will at least Bobby announced that you look at the site and you look at the brand followers or the influencers sneeze whoever owned. They're kind much more broader than what we had in the past.

"I love it actually in looking at it just from a design perspective. I do feel like it is really ringing. True with your brand promise and what you and i know about what it takes to really help our clients move their brands forward right so there are a couple of things just really enjoyed when i looked at it. I see the two brand ehlers than i see an overlap and i think that that overlaps states that's where the good stuff is where the science needs are. And you know. I i may be reading more into brand. I do think it reflects the brand promise. I love the moving forward. This is what you're doing. you know. Four companies or brands even as you internally move forward and it's interesting because behaviorally with the actual last piece of being ally. I think that speaks a lot to your actual brand promise. So tell me with all of those things at least remind perspective. What does this mean for your clients. We you know they expected and have received this really A great partnership from your team in the paso. What's going to be changing here if anything. That's a great question. And in terms of what's changing day to day brookline's absolutely nothing to teams that serve a client today at the same teams in the usa and Know there's really no change in how people can come back to us All ways in which we work and what they can expect from us and we really want to thank our clients. Frankly for all the best support as we've we've made this decision. The brand bo is a signal to future strategy and really leaning into the way forward for a company and there's two things but dependent thus the ball really leaning into and reflecting roots in behavioral science. We've always been about behavioral research and so it makes sense that given that static in a world of change anka point the how we think about consumer behavior. But we lean into that as part of a new branding is behaviorally. The second part is the world is changing. The cote pandemic really accelerated changes. The underway shoppers. At a really digitizing And unequivocally that the short journey now is is an only channel and so the new brand is ready built around digital first strategy and it's fat new strategy coupled with new branding but we've really hooked gifts teams the permission to really think about shopping in a new way and help drum shop the growth for our clients. You know you mentioned dragging shopper growth into need that just really is driving brand and revenue impact for your companies. You serve so. Let's talk about that a little bit because you brought up. The insights industry itself is transforming it. One of the other things that you and i have in common is that both of our companies. How podcast and while some people might not see how that's related to new innovations in the industry it really is directly tied to that. Because you know your team is constantly interviewing and talking to people who are at the forefront of what is changing and also what needs to continue to change in the industry. And i can't even tell you. How many virtual conferences. I've been at this year where i've interviewed people specifically about that customer experience about omni channel experience and about that really changing tax to purchase. Yeah, That's Probably an Ad
The Best Ads of 2020
"You're listening to yeah. That's probably and the ad we podcast. We've talked about marketing media technology in pop culture because in the end everything is an ad especially this week. Because it's our ads of the year episode. Look forward to this all year. We get to nerd out about which adds stunts activation chains weird random social media responses from brands. We really liked this year and joining me this year to talk about it. We've got enes alaya who covers Performance marketing experiential marketing for edwige. Ian it is always great to have you here. Hello thanks for having me. We've also got katie lindstrom katie as a reporter who covers up breaking news and quite often big creative campaigns that are coming out katie. It is always a pleasure to have you joining us from your in austin austin texas. Got to be here and We've also got jamison fleming senior editor for membership here at ad week. jamieson has He's involved in just about everything H- here dad wake. And so i can't think of someone better to have kind of a big picture over overview and opinions on a lot of the biggest work that came out of the year. Jameson thanks so much for making time for us. Yeah accent. it'd be here excited to really digest very weird here battle tossing. It really was and i have to say of all the years of doing this every year. The ads a determining the as years difficult just I'll go and give the the can alert in the sense that Add wigs twenty five ads of the year Including our number one pick are all on dot com as of monday So if you're listening to this Probably monday or later. You should be able to find that on advocate dot com this year. We also did a reader's choice Bracket for the first time where we let. We identified thirty two of the biggest campaigns of the year and again ads and weird social responses. And even some political fundraisers and people really went nuts with it Jamison unload by you. And i both been watching edwige stuff for a long time. The level of this readers choice voting online was bananas. Yeah i mean the the semi finals between oreos and stake of guts. Seventy two thousand votes just on twitter. And i don't think i've ever seen any twitter poll by any twitter user. Get seventy two thousand votes so kind of crazy. When two brands with loyal followings can do twitter to say at least yeah that one was a crazy match of oreo created a doomsday vault when among many other doomsday scenarios happening this year There was an asteroid supposedly headed toward earth and so oreo created an underground bunker to save its recipes and Other things so That was up against stay. Combs campaign on social media against misinformation which was a very different kind of form of marketing. But they're following turned out in force. Seventy two thousand votes later. Oreo was the winner. Only i will say by promising to follow back. People who voted thing and then and then had a real struggle to follow through on their campaign from us. So as we record this we are in the final round which is orioles doomsday vault versus The princess bride reunion which was a fundraiser for wisconsin. Democrats really brilliant idea. They brought together just almost every Living actor and a person behind the princess bride Fred savage couldn't make it because it was his brother's birthday and he was spent with him but Everyone else pretty much. He's alive was there and As a really fantastic idea. So we won't know the winner when we record this because those are being battled out over the weekend but we will be able to talk about our favorites. So with that katy. We're we're just gonna go round robin here we're gonna talk about. Each of us has individual favorites. We i am happy to talk about ad. Weeks official favorites. But let's start out just on individual katie tells about one or two that you really love this year. I was thinking about this and just kind of thinking back to the ones that i shared with my own friends and family this year. That are you know. There's some overlap in some that are just kind of silly oreos already shouted out orioles doomsday camp. But they're proud parent Short film they released a couple of months ago. One that i just thought was really powerful. And i ended up sharing with it with a bunch of different people just because i thought it was a beautiful little short film and the story behind it was at the two actors who play a gay couple are actually partners in real life and it really came through when i thought was just like a lovely example of storytelling and then to shut up the mid west. The canadian beer brand labatt made some ads in that came out in the summer but it was like they had to completely reshoot their campaign so many brands had to this year. After creating a summer campaign that was not pandemic friendly and then having to totally start from scratch and there's was one of the one of the first stories like this that i covered in more like in-depth way they literally got back from there shoot for their summer campaign on the same day. That trump announced a national emergency. And then they that these two creatives just like created these really funny ads from with it within their own homes using like a power washer to simulate tubing and using a spray bottle and a little treadmill dissimulate like wake boarding. So it's kind of a funny way to pretend like these midwesterners we're at the out at the lake having a good time when that wasn't actually possible this summer over the summer so those were a couple of them now. Did you see that one griner. No no i didn't catch that one. It's it was by the burns group in and it's a pretty small like regional brand. But i just thought it was such an interesting pivot to use the word of the year.

The Intermittent Fasting Podcast
Continuous Glucose Monitors
"Hi everybody and welcome. This is episode number one, hundred, eighty, one of the intermittent fasting podcast I'm melanie avalon and imagine Stevens Hi everybody. How are you today Jen I am fabulous I am just immersed in all sorts of amazing data and learning about myself until like to elaborate I would. Melanie knows because she knows what I'm doing but for readers of Fast Feast repeat and even readers of. Fear you know I've been talking about personalized nutrition since I saw that famous Ted talk that I talk about with Dr Erin Seagal I saw it I twenty seventeen and it literally changed my life to understand that we all have personalized responses to foods and some of it's based on our genetic background. But a lot of it is in our gut microbiome and really just hormonal health in general. In fast, Feast repeat I talked about the work that Tim Spector is doing. He's my favorite Gut microbiome researcher from the UK and he had a study called the predict study, and then the predict to study which some of my friends did a year ago and I am now participating in the third round of this predict three it's with an APP called Zoe and he's one of the collaborators with. It but as part of the study for the past seven days I've been wearing a continuous blood glucose monitor that they sent me and I have to send it back, which is so sad because man is an opening to see how my body responds to different foods with my blood glucose. So I can see you know what it's doing all during the day all during the night up 'cause day. On how it responds to foods I'm so happy to report that I'm not surprised the foods that I thought that worked well for many guess what they work. Well, they do. So are you eating some of their stuff and your stuff? Well, I had to do that for two days. There were two days where I had to start the day eating these muffins that they sent me Oh, my Lord. Yuck. For listeners, we wanted to record the podcast earlier, which was like I can't record a podcast after eating the muffin. Hours right. I mean I was predicting that it was before I had even eaten the muffins but I had a feeling because I had to eat them in the morning cacique. You couldn't have anything before the muffins except water. Wake up in the morning and drink black coffee. So I had to eat the muffins and then wait four hours and then eat the muff a there were actually different muffins and then wait two hours and then I could you know have real food the first day of that opened at eight am and I never eat at eight am even on vacation you know if I'm going to have breakfast, we usually end up doing more of a brunch. So I can't think of the last time I've had food at eight am but I had to eat. I think it was three muffins that had been frozen and then I microwave dumb and the first round of muffins I think they're testing fat clearance like how quickly your body clears out fat after you eat a high fat meal. These were high fat muffins. There are high fat. Because, you could tell by reading the ingredients list you would not have probably eaten these muffins. going. To say. This is not a melanie study. No, you probably wouldn't have eaten the muffins but the first ingredient was like safflower oil or something Oh. Gosh. I know I, know I know but I ate them muffins than I was so crabby for those three hours 'cause they weren't satisfying at all. You know if I could put some butter on there or some strawberry jam but no I had to they tasted like a mix between a cornbread muffin and pound cake. But with less flavor said, then the the second set of muffins they were like gluten free cash I duNno? low-fat Muffins. But My my blood glucose responded great to both sets them up I had to do this blood test or I had to like squeeze out all this blood on this card and send it off to be anyway they're going to test the. I think my fat clearance because you had to do a certain number of hours after that, and it gives you a lot of information, but I also had to send an poop sample. That's right up my alley. Yeah. So that was interesting. It was a little more hardcore than the one I did for the American gut project. I won't go into details, but it was interesting. Let's just say and then I took them all to the post office and mail them in. Also. Fun, this guy like what's on your arm it was continuous blood glucose monitor and you know and I thought that was very bold question to ask a stranger at the post office but I explained it. But I should've said this is poop in this box, but I didn't. is putting it on hard. It was actually so very easy. It has the ability shared, but I did it you stick it to the back of your arm and you just in this little thing and you just click and then it just POPs. said it was easier than the finger stick. Okay two. Brands of CGM I'm betting great now. I haven't done either one yet. Well, this information is just so important I think because it's it's showed me. Like I had one meal that I've eaten so far that did not work very well for me. It was the only one and it was a flat bread topped with like a a lemon ricotta and then sauteed Brussels sprouts and then like Parmesan cheese and then a hot honey that one shot my blood glucose up higher than anything has so far probably the honey. But when I've eaten potatoes when I've eaten rice even. Toast. With egg on top. I. Have a very slow steady. Roz than a slow steady back down. I think that flat bread didn't have a lot of fat with the I mean had some fat but I probably normally have more fat with my carbs. So it just kinda spiked to me right up.

But lately, the two brands have come a lot closer. Both ESL injury Mac were hit particularly hard by Cova which caused live events to be cancelled to make up for some of the lost revenue. MPG started selling meteorites, ESL and dream events. When they were broadcast in various countries, they sold those meteorites for China they sold it for Brazil and this whole for a few other regions as well. It seemed like a proper merger was imminent and today it finally was made official is Ellen Mac will now operate under the brand esl gaming both tournaments will still exist. So expect dream hacks again when live events can return, but operations will happen under that esl gaming brand. It's not really clear. House will change things from an outward perspective although internally, there has to be some reorganisation. That's Logan kind of went away from me. I think they use it. I mean, I see a lot of commercials for KFC but in all honesty don't remember the slogan anymore. Yes, it's been around forever and it might come back or it may just be a marketing Ploy dead.

Finger Lickin Good (MM #3444)
"The Mason with Kevin Mason covid-19 is wreaking havoc, especially when it comes to our lives two companies two Brands Kentucky Fried Chicken bounce that their slogan finger-lickin good which they've been using off and on for sixty-five years while they're putting it aside for now. It doesn't mean it's going away for good. It just doesn't seem right to talk about licking your fingers during the time of coal. Well, let's be honest washing. Your fingers is more important. Now, of course, here's the funny part. They actually sort of retired finger-licking good in the places. They used it back in the early March it made sense. Now. The question is this really cold related or they using covid-19 as a convenient excuse who knows if it's true or not. Maybe Kentucky Fried Chicken is going to go in a different direction with their slogan, but more importantly do we really think about Kentucky Fried Chicken as being finger-licking good once the colonel passed away. Okay so skin, cal skincare, but definitely make up remover. I think you have indicated this. Yeah they. Edged into skin care, but it was with an eye makeup removal rather than clothing, which is in an interesting extension of the cleansing category as the crossover between cleansing a makeup. Cleanser it's makeup remover. I'm on the fence about you need. Make remove I guess if you wearing a lot of makeup, you do it. These I always find those mists and the makeup remover sprays fascinating how they work I don't stand there. Witchcraft you spray on in your whole face melts off like Indiana. Jones like death becomes her. It's totally mad. The interest to see what else is coming. The packaging is gorgeous. It's all is bright metallic read. It reminds me a little bit of. So. Body sprays from the ninety S. Yes, I remember. Like a metallic red spotty red packaging. That looks really cool. We'll see welcome to come I did a bit of background research on this, and it's because I always brand. That's come from Sephora like Marc Jacobs yet. Betty itself actually. And it's not. It's coming from an incubation group called luxury brand partners, and a also look after Smith and colts. That's where it's myth and cult came from the nail Polish brand, and they were the money behind Becker before they sold Bekker's trae lording. Yes, so CEO was a form of Becca CEO. So. They've got a lot of. Beauty expertise in the gang. Interesting an interesting. Yeah it's going straight into Sephora and it's not a Sephora incubated. Brandon's competes brand. One come from luxury brand partners, so yes, since we get more news on one size, we'll let you know and then the other news, which is hot off the presses Hof. scold inch. Is Fantasy. July thirty first on skin dot com, even going on anti-beauty is is entirely its own thing. While I kind of like the savage frontier. The extensions like it's going to be like in separating. What's interesting? Really really interesting I'm curious as to see how that's going to go i. don't know what the product is going to be. It's literally just dropped as a logo an. Yes, so no more will no more and the last piece of Christmas. News we want to mention is. We had a big pre compensation. We had a meeting about the yes. About this one. I think it's an important piece of news share. Without necessarily getting into our personal thoughts and feelings on it, because we have and that's for another time. MORPHE- have ended their relationship with Jeffrey medics, which is huge news huge, yeah! I think that's going to be. Lots of people talking about your Fisher. Of. Discussion and debate as to what his involvement was with Morpheus. A company is whether or not he owned of more viewers investors like the. It was quite unclench. But what we do for sure is. He is a massive massive revenue driver form OFI, so it's a huge step for them to terminate that relationship and out that of his supply chain, so think is, it's jeopardy. Saw Cosmetics Company. Yet the company, so I mean interesting. We'll see what happens with morphine now where they go. Yeah, but just a business news

Top 10 Most Valuable Brands in the World in 2020
"Brands keeps doing them, so we'll keep talking about cult of Mac. Says the Brandon Valuation. Firm brands on. Has Put together a list of the most valuable brands today and apple is so close to the top. For the fifth year in a row, apple has taken second place. According to the report bested only by Amazon. The report says brand's values apple's brand at three hundred fifty two point two billion dollars. Unlike market CAP, which values the business as a whole this brand. Is designed to assess the value of the branding itself. Running through the top ten list Amazon I apple second Microsoft third. Google fourth visa round out the top five. Followed by Alibaba tencent facebook McDonald's. And Mastercard rounding out the top ten. Maybe, the weirdest part of the story. Besides this, actually being a thing is how the brands are categorized. Apple is actually the top tech company according to brands that's because the organization classifies Amazon in retail. Even while noting the hardware, it makes the e book video. Music Services. It offers and Amazon. Web Services. which is about as tack as you can get? Number two brands, but number one for Warren, Buffett. Well forty-three percent of Berkshire Hathaway's holdings, anyway, that is the word from Motley fool by way of cult of Mac. PS4's Big Exclusives Shift Release Dates
"Learned at the beginning of this week. we'll start with the news and then get into the like less every aspect of it but we did learn the last of US part two and go sushi. Mahathir Randy released its The last of US part. Two's coming June nineteenth. I believe I'm going to double check. That and go. Sushi is July seventeenth so A. Yeah Ace what ended up. Originally being an indefinite move was a three ish week. Move for the last of us are two and a ghost which was originally supposed to come out at the end of June June twenty-sixth. Obviously it would not be great to release those two major. Ps Four Games within a week of each other so this gives ghosts some breathing room in between. How do we feel about these new release dates? Obviously they're close. We don't have to wait too long for them. Feel about them. Yeah I mean like we will. We spent a lot of times vacating. How far pot goes to Sushi? Mid would be to the loss of US yesteryear. You know that was. That was off now. Things have changed and I don't really care if it's two games to playstation exclusives are released relatively close together because I'm going to be playing more to the very end because I have that time And I think it's it's super exciting. I said that the last of us to make that really dramatic sort of cool. But I'm very pleased that it's like now. We have a definitive release date once. I love you phrase this not as two new games. Got Delayed again. Two brand new release dates. Yeah see I was expecting to get kicked down the road a little bit in like honestly a three week. Delay is not that bad and I was actually kind of kind of bummed out by the delayed indefinitely. Because that's like that's like Mama Data. You're getting back together and it's like well we're separated into definitely. That's a serious since and upsetting. So that's what I that's the weird thing about. The word is indefinitely can go both ways. Right indefinitely could mean this game has cancelled like obviously. It wasn't for the last of us that no one ever thought. That was the case for the last of us but it could mean that in certain contexts Or it could just mean a couple of weeks like it. It's a word that genuinely can like just mean we don't know as the word they use pretty much and that's what it being. I agree that generally people think of it as a like glass half empty kind of thing. Someone that's got a negative relationship like we've separated indefinitely. No one's like It sounds like it could go either way. It's like that relationship is that is that is a done deal my friend. Lopiano or celebrating the dates Max. Not because it's like yeah. It's two three week delays her dog. I'm with you. It's it's a little tiny like little sliver of of something being definite that we. It's not like tend to believe. Agile that what hold onto. What's really funny about them to is like we went in expecting. This could be a long delay. Like how close could this get to the? Ps Five launch. Theoretically like what we see them go to the fall. My guess is it probably was a massive logistical thing to figure out of like. Oh what does the distribution pipeline look like as as unsavory? Some other stuff is that we can get to in a second. I do think the weird like little details. We don't know about this delay. Probably have a lot of business stuff that is just very boring to a mass audience. So that's why we don't hear about it like they had to figure out getting things to stores getting things on digital making sure countries might be able to support that stuff on the Internet side and I totally prefer this where they say as early as they know has lasted much. Isn't gonNA come out when we think it's good when you think it's GonNa come out than the alternative which is right now. We learn that last of US IS DELAYED THREE WEEKS. Right like yeah. I prefer they tell you. Tell US early on that. They know something is coming with a delay and they just don't quite know what yet like at much more preferable to me than finding very very late. Yeah it's I would prefer the way that we found out this recently and I think something that you know. Maybe they were looking at it or not In between those announcements or at least like information that we got since the announcement of the delay and now is we saw a major game like final fantasy seven. Hit THREE POINT. Five million units Despite the supplier constraints despite the issues going on the world. Obviously that games Copies were already out manufactured to a certain extent but maybe seeing the success that that game had animal crossing makes them think. Okay maybe we can still have successful launch even with these concerns for a game. This big and final fantasy did not have a clean launch ray. A final fantasy came out early in Australia. It was hard to get and other places like that was a messy launch and it still did really really well so yeah. I was surprised about inspired and I think these released as our solid especially considering all other forms of entertainment are on pause like TV. Shows can't film all movies except for tenant from Christopher Nolan have been delayed in the summer so June and July are pretty empty months for entertainment so to have these two major blockbuster games ever stuck at home. Pretty Good Pretty. Good audience to have at your fingertips. I do WANNA mention though. We did reach out because when a less of US got delayed ironman. Vr was also delayed. And it wasn't mentioned in this update. We reached out to Sony and they said expect news on that in the coming weeks now again like the word indefinitely the coming weeks could be next week. It could be twelve weeks from now. I don't know but Hopefully we get word on that. Game's release
