The DNC and RNC are going virtual. What can we expect?
"So actually the coronavirus pandemic everything has gone virtual. We covered all digital conferences like Tho- launches, apples, WDC. In DNC are completely different animals Taco bell expecting to see well I. Think it's GonNa be a very, highly produced. Event just like it normally is but it's GonNa be really different because you know when they. When they usually do this, you've got like thousands of people in a huge arena you know you have people talking. And they're they're mostly talking to the to the people, the viewers and the audience. Sitting at home on their couches. Anyway. But you have that vibe you have that you know the people cheering it's it's like being in a live sporting event in a sense you know so like that's going to be lost a bit. Yeah. We've we've had instances with like the the NBA right they put up digital boards with with people that are virtually in I've watched the most games. It's definitely not. It doesn't really replicate the feeling of being at a game where the ambiance there I imagine a lot of the energy that would have been in those conferences have people been there. Is really kind of sucked away, right? Yeah and you know and that's really political conventions are basically like cheerleading events right? You know it's like the party faithful as there you've got these delegates from all around the country they're like really Gung Ho for their party and their candidate and they wanna like. You know just cheer their heads off and it's you know. So you know I think that energy is going to be a bit different but I'm also curious to see like what creative things they come up with right like like you mentioned the NBA thing like like are they going to do something like that? You know I mean? It'll be interesting to see how they approach it. Yeah. Have you got any kind of indication on on what they might do to create that excitement that is would be missing from having all those folks there. Yeah. So the the DNC they they have been, they've definitely said that they are going to try to involve people like regular everyday people. So I'm wondering if it is going to be something NBA like right where they have screens. Right there. But we'll definitely be having some like. Some people getting beamed in from all across the US whether it's you know. Politicians or or just SORTA your regular everyday folks who are like either live on video and a lot of like these pre produced videos people have been they've had this campaign where people are able to. Send in their videos like with prompts like I know Joe and talk about like why they're excited about Joe Biden and that kind of thing. So they're going to have that SORTA interspersed throughout the program. So it'll be interesting to see like how it all Kinda comes together. To DNC specifically, what what is that? GonNa look like will anyone actually be in Milwaukee? So there will probably be like a skeleton kind of crew in Milwaukee like I've heard that that Tom Perez, who's the chairman of the DNC was still planning to go to Milwaukee to gavel in the convention officially. But the big speakers you know like Joe Biden, who's the presumptive nominee he is not going to be there he's going to be somewhere in Delaware. Now, they've said he's not probably going to do it from his basement. So some place else in Delaware. In the Wilmington area where he lives. So that'll be interesting. I wonder how they they might dress up whatever venue he's in. You know like he was speaking with. Kamala Harris. You know the other day they've had actually a couple of speaking engagements and they've got the flags everywhere but like the backdrop didn't really look all that interesting to me. So it'll it'll I wonder how they're going to you know jazz it up so that it looks cool. How's the Brokaw can work? Yeah. So the roll call and by the way like I got to go to the convention in two, Thousand Sixteen, the roll call is pretty cool. Just in general when you're there in the room, there's like this vibe all the people stand up and they say, you know I'm from South Carolina and they were the whatever state and we pledge our ex delegates to. And so it's like an exciting moment. So it's going to be totally different this time 'cause they're all not going to be in the room but I you know they've said they're. GonNa. Kind of pop around all all the states and so you're probably going to have people from those states. Doing their call and I'm sure they're gonNA do something jazzy about like. You know I'm from Delaware. So it's like Delaware the first state in the nation. Allah. Probably say something like that I don't know. So it'll. We'll see. We'll see what about the NC I know there was a lot of back and forth about where was gonna be in whether it was go digital What is that GonNa was so that you know I think that's still to be determined right? Like they're still they haven't put out a whole lot of information about like what it's GonNa look like exactly. So I mean I want I wonder if some of this might change in the next week but. So far they are. Going to have a very reduced crowd in Charlotte. President trump will not be there to accept the nomination. In they're gonNa have like something like you know three hundred or so delegates there. So you know I don't know I don't know if they're going to try to do some things kind of like in in the arena although I think that would look pretty. bleak. If it's people, you know space really far apart. So I think that's still Kinda to be determined with what they're going to be doing it wear for folks who are watching these where can you check out the streams? So the DNC they've announced a whole bunch of places like you're gonna be able to stream, it live on youtube and facebook and twitter and And then the convention is officially you know airing from nine to eleven every night and all the broadcast channels will have it for the last hour. And and then they're gonNA have it on like TV and Roku and so they were going to be a lot of opportunities for people to stream it or. Even, to SORTA catch it on the networks got looking at some of the other challenges I mean we talked a little bit about the lack of energy. But what are the potential pitfalls who going virtual? Yeah. Well I mean we've all been watching. You know some of these cable news shows lately right like in sometimes you get like the guests who are like pixellated or their screen freezes. You know so I think that's going to be a challenge. You know you don't want somebody to be mid-sentence and all of a sudden they're face completely frees up. So that'll be a challenge. Yasser. Don't want it to look like a really boring call. With. With everybody with the bookcase in the background. So I think they'll have to figure out ways to to make it look interesting and you know. And not have any sort of technical glitches.

We took one of the most aggressive approach is in the nation against this virus and because we've taken this so seriously. We're doing much better than other states states like Florida and Texas who are continuing to struggle and closed later and reopened earlier than we did, who are now seeing historic surges in cases? I'm live, reported yesterday. That despite being one of the hardest hit states early on, Our state currently ranks 40th and the seven day average of new Corona virus cases per capita And in the 40th percent testing positive on Corona virus virus diagnostic diagnostic tests. tests. This slide shows Michigan's daily cases per 1,000,000 compared to other Midwest States. I'm live also reported that states across the country that did not take this virus seriously, are now seeing record numbers in terms of daily Corona virus cases. Hospitalizations and deaths. Georgia was the first day in the country to reopen its economy and is now averaging five times the number new cases of Corona virus in a day, five times more than the state of Michigan. And while states like Georgia and Florida and Texas reported hundreds of new deaths last week, Michigan had 43 Percent positivity rate is also far below our Midwestern neighbors. And we have continued to ramp up testing over the past few months. There's a wonderful Twitter thread by Dr Asheesh Zhaan that talks about testing and positivity rates. I think it's worth your time to look, ifyou're happened to be on Twitter. This virus demands to be taken seriously. Youth will not protect you from this virus. Political affiliation will not protect you from this virus. This virus will not go away just because we're tired of dealing with it. The on ly way we can put a stop to this pant. I make an end to this pandemic is there take it seriously, do our part to protect one another and do what we know works. My mask says I wear this for you. And it is true. When we wear masks. We were properly so it covers our nose and Mo. When we practice social distancing and when we go out to get tested when it's necessary When we do these things, we put our whole state in a stronger position. To send our kids back to school safely. Wearing a homemade mask. It's simple. And it shows your commitment to protecting yourself. Your family and your fellow Michiganders from this virus. To make it easier for those who are particularly vulnerable to Cove in 19 and who need help securing masks. Today we're announcing the My Mask Aid project. This project is a partnership, a partnership involving the state of Michigan Bheema and the Ford Motor Company, and it's a result of the hard work of the Michigan Cove in 19 task force on racial disparities. Shared by Lieutenant Governor Garland Gilchrist Way will provide for 1,000,000 free masks to people who need them most really incredible donation that Ford is working with us. To make sure that we're able to do this. One million of the face coverings from FEMA 1.5 million from Ford will go to low income schools, the city of Detroit. Federally qualified health centers, Some Colvin, 19 testing sites and too many organizations, helping to reach vulnerable populations, including minority residents, who have been affected by the public health crisis as a result of historic racism. Anyone interested in receiving a free mask? Can find a distribution location by calling the Cove in 19 hotline at 85356136 We're looking at their local community Action agency online. I want to thank Jim Hackett and Ford for their partnership. In this project. It's partnership is going to save lives wearing a mask has been proven to reduce the chance of spreading covert 19 by about 70%. According to one estimate. If 95% of Americans wore masks between now and December 1st. It would save 66,000 American lives. According to one estimate, if 95% of Americans do this. We can get our make our economy stronger and save one another's lives. That's 66,000 people who are parents or grand parents or Children, siblings, friends. It could be saved by the simple act of wearing a mask when he go to the grocery store pharmacy when you're out and about As a parent. I know the number one thing on everyone's mind is whether and how their kids are going to return to the returned to school this fall. It's a pairs across Michigan are anxiously awaiting their school district's to decide how we're going to safely educate our kids, whether it's by remote learning or implementing the strict safety measures I outlined in the my safe schools reopening In June. After rise and covert cases in July and early August. Our case numbers have begun to plant home. So we're not out of the woods and this crisis is far from over. But we appear to have stopped the incline, but we're now playing told and we want to see that become a decline. To get through this and to ensure the safety of our kids, educators and support staff this fall. Everyone's got to continue to do their part. We also need the Trump Administration and Congress to step up and provide additional support. Two states like Michigan, so we can send more resource is to our classrooms to keep our kids and our educators and all of their families safe. I want to end by thanking the thousands of Michiganders on the front lines of this crisis, while people everywhere have made tremendous sacrifices to protect their families from this virus. Those on the front lines have put their own health at risk to take care of the rest of us. Every day for the past five months. Gruelling, stressful work. You've ever listened. Tio this American life on NPR. They've highlighted some stories of people on the front line in Detroit. You might want to check it out. I was proud, but also it was an eye opener. And I hope maybe you might listen. Nurses and doctors working 18 hour shifts and giving up time with their families to keep them safe. You stood by the side of a bed where someone lost their battle with covert 19 and their family couldn't be there. Grocery store workers, especially in the beginning of this pandemic, worked around the clock to keep ourselves stocked to ensure people could buy groceries safely. Child care workers who've been instrumental in helping our frontline workers save lives every day. These air truly the real heroes of this crisis, truck drivers and mail carriers. People who mask up every day for hours on end to ensure our safety. They deserve our gratitude and respect and the best way we can show it is by masking up. So with that I want to say thank you to all of those who have just described have stayed on the front lines. I want to encourage everyone in our state to keep doing our part to stay smart and to mask up. And with
Trump stokes 'birther' conspiracy theory about Kamala Harris
"CBS News UPDATE. President Trump has floated a false Birther claim that Kamala Harris isn't qualified to run for the vice presidency, even though she was born in Oakland, California and meets all constitutional requirements. The president's son in law and advisor Jared Kushner spoke to CBS This morning's Anthony Masons. Why didn't the president take the opportunity to debunk that theory? I have not had a chance to discuss this with him. But again let his words speak for himself. It's a theory The president's used before correspondent Ed O'Keefe. He attack here is the racist accusations Mr Trump once made against former president Barack Obama, Why doesn't he show his birth certificate? Paris's sister, Maya responded on Twitter writing. There are no gradations of birtherism. Are either in or you're out Republican Senator Lindsey Graham's just tweeted. There is no issue as to whether or not Kamala Harris is a U. S citizen. Her mother was born in India, her father in Jamaica. CBS News Update.
Is TikTok a Good Buy?
"There is the one story that we cannot not talk about which is Tiktok naturally and this week Danny you wrote about how we should not take every tiktok buying rumor very. Seriously because of bankers essentially talking their book. So what's going on with the the information war but took well I mean obviously, we're GONNA be talking about exits and exits and exits of the next couple of weeks whether they're IPO's specs and TIKTOK TIKTOK canting down it is August fourteenth when we release the show what we have like what four weeks left on the trump and do time line ups when they must sell immediately or they will die. And so given all the pressure that tiktok faces the bankers here are trying to generate some level of a feeding frenzy for the company. Basically I was reading earlier this week. Look. We've heard to twitter's rumored to be looking at them. We've heard that apple's rumor Google's Lube rumored. I was joking that Oracle's rumored I. Mean They have a data center business like why can't Oracle by top right? But. If you start to listen to some of the PR were hearing like Apple has has fundamentally declared that they are not interested. So they are out Google has demurred twitter has I think eight billion in cash total in the company's Balance Sheet of remembering my numbers correctly. So it's ridiculous and so I think it's really important to remember that like there is essentially one company here. It's called Microsoft and Microsoft knows it has immense control over the scale of the deal here, and unfortunately for Tiktok the only way they're going to get the price that they're actually worth. Is To have multiple bidders at the table. That's why the baggers are doing so much work to bring them here I don't think it's going to happen. So I think we're going to be shocked at what might be the final purchase price here for for the company. It reminds me a lot of like when a company like confidentially files to go public and then it just gets scooped up immediately I. Always think it's such a clever way to like I'm going to go public unless anyone takes me look back and so that's kind of what this whole dilemma is. Of I really curious if there is anyone out there, who's very seriously I think Danny your reads great. Off The show off the record, we talk about some stuff that were told that people via text and other messing platforms of other companies that might be interested. We're always kind of like. Maybe, but Danny de there will be too serious bids for the company or will it come down to just be? With an offer and then trump with the middle finger on the decide I, think really. A question purchase price, right if the purchase prices near Lincoln yards in twenty billion plus price point note, there's not a lot of buyers I. think if it gets down into the single digits, which which may be possible given all the dynamics here I mean it just crazily like a one of one deal. It's really hard to get a comp to the president of the United States has of you know a couple of weeks timeline to sell a massive multi. Hundred million user product. If it gets into the single digits I mean it may be backed right it could be actually picked up by private equity firm. You know there's all kinds of other alternatives that might chew up there that we don't normally hear about. So so it's a mix i. think it's totally depend on the purchase price.
Pompeo: Chinese threat may be worse than a 'Cold War 2.0'
"US Secretary of state might compare has bill named middle of Oprah this week you warning that the threat from China good welby worse than that posed by the Soviet Union at the height of the cold. War Mr Pompeo's visits is taking in the Czech Republic Austria, Poland, and Slovenia. This is what he said yesterday. The contrast between free and unfree society has never been clear. Free nations must work together to confront authoritarian threats. Chief among those threats is the Chinese Communist Party and its drive to control people and information at our economies. When a Balkans correspondent guided Loni has been following his journey. Welcome back to the program guy good to have you with us. I wipe out the with Slovenia with no disrespect obviously to the nation itself. I think far enough I mean it's only two million people live here. So it's not exactly huge, but it is a NATO member and there is a family connection of course, Emma and Mr. Pompeo made that point in his opening remarks saying that he brought greetings for Melania trump who is noticeably absent from her homeland. She was born in San Nitsa as Melania canals and she doesn't come back here very often. But Mr Pompey's said she was very envious about him visiting nurse Levin in particular Lake bled where he was doing his news conference but. The rather factors as well. So Slovenia is at at the moment and this is I wouldn't say was out of character, but it's just a matter of where how the political winds blowing here at the moment at the moment in the Prime Minister's office you've got somebody who thinks Mr trump is rather smashing fallow where prime, minister. Yannis Yansha uses twitter almost as enthusiastically as MR trump and spends quite a lot of that time. Enthusiastically, retweeting Mr Trump's tweets. So if you're going to have a friendly audience in Europe at the moment of your representative of the trump administration then Slovenia's an office place to stop off so more than simply passing on greetings from floaters and enjoying a slap up lunch at Lake bled we've just heard there a clip from Secretary of State Pompeo. Making China the real focus of his visit. He really did, and you only speak for about three or four minutes yesterday bend and I think at least two and a half of those minutes were spent really having a good old dig on against China before that. He was speaking about well, he was actually signing a declaration with the Foreign Minister of Slovenia about five G. Security, and this is all part of pushing what the trump administration calls. They're clean network program, and this is an attack on Chinese. Telecom. Companies Chinese tech companies hallway in particular Zeti threatening for the Balkan they've both been very high profile targets of the trump administration and leave you signing up to this five of this clean network program. You'll basically making a commitment, you'll knocking to use any untrustworthy. Vendors in your five G. Systems and the United States is saying it wouldn't have any of these vendors anywhere near any of its embassies went allowed anywhere near any of this State Department. Systems. A lot of come countries, of course are not signing up to this, but Slovenia has and it's got its five G. Network installed by. As of last month, take that way well has replied China Chinese commentators of wounded central and eastern Europe shouldn't be fooled. What would describes Mike pompeo embracing an entirely entirely cold war mindset it is. It is a dangerous thing. Isn't it when you start going into the likes of the Czech, Republic and Poland and Slovenia, and START TALKING ABOUT IDEOLOGICAL THREATS Yes I'm you know he really has gone the full evil empire on? Am You when you talk about Cold War rhetoric either way that he's he's talking really as I mean, as you heard in the clip there, it sounds like something from the nineteen eighties a talks again chief among these threats as the. Chinese. Communist. Party. It's drive to control people and. Information and our economies, and it's it's again talking about freedom loving people and becoming a five G. Clean country as Slovenia has done today as solidifies staff position. In this fight, the tide is turning against the Chinese Communist Party in its efforts to restrict freedom for all of us and I think what's interesting guys of course he's not saying China he's specifically saying. The Chinese Communist, party so he's criticizing the the system of government and control rather than country and the people itself, and that's I suppose the GATT out card But this is the way that the trump administration is going I recommend everyone to have a a good read of the clean network program just to see what they're saying in that and. Quite apart from anything else it does make it clear and not that it's part of the trump administration's drive and it's very interesting phrasing not the United States, not the State Department but the trump administration. So a spot of electioneering perhaps
Andreas Antonopoulos on Why the ETH Supply Debate Is 'Silly' - Ep.138
"Guest is Andrea his Antonoff Nautilus Speaker Educator and author of mastering bitcoin mastering it cerium and the Internet of money volumes. One two three. Welcome Andreas. On the show lower. Who would replace Kamala Harris as California Senator?
"We still have 12 weeks before the November election, Voters will decide between President Trump on my vice President Mike Pence against former Vice President Joe Biden and current Democratic vice presidential nominee California Senator Kamala Harris. But in Harris are victorious. Governor Newsome will have to appoint a new senator to serve the next two years here in California, and well, there's been early speculation on names like State Attorney General Javier Becerra and San Diego State Senator Toni Atkins. Another elected officials told the governor he's interested. Mayor of Imperial Beach Search, the DEA sent a note to the governor with a picture of him in a business suit with a surfboard and water, nothing his intention to seek the appointments If the Democrats win because Pamela Harris may become our next vice president, I notified Governor Newsome like everyone does not is via Twitter that I'd like to be on the collection left to be the next U. S. Senator put out Open seat. And I think it's important to have someone who's not from the insider circle in Sacramento on someone that's ready to help clean up California and fight for our planet and our ocean from day one. Well and yes, I think it was the announcement that color base attention picture of you in a business suit with your surfboard. Right. The water's edge. Kind of embodying what it means to be from Imperial Beach. Yeah, you know, and you're a bitch, maybe small. What? We're mighty, You know, I've seen the names of some of the more high profile candidates and you know the reality of California's in trouble countries in trouble, And so we need someone who's used to doing things without a lot of resource is gonna support. You could get things done quickly, and that's experience. I've had thereby be in that experience that we need for the next senator from California and as the native Senate, California someone who rested 500 California the lifeguard for the state and for the city of Baby, I'm ready for the job and just look forward to being considered by Governor Newsome. Well, obviously you've worked with the governor, and in fact, you've worked as high as going to the White House when it comes to the sewage issue along the border, with the issues coming out of Mexico to impact San Diego County Imperial Beach, the city of San Diego. Everywhere else here with its impact that profile of yours with that fight has gone to the highest level. Yeah, so you know, unfortunately, because sewage issue is continuing to happen. I ve had to reach out from everybody from the president of Mexico, too. You know, President Trump We've met Got Governor knew someone. The governor of Baja California. So yeah, felt the times were like more like an international diplomat rather than a mare. But that is good practice good experience for what it takes to be an effective senator. To give you credit. Since the minute she was in office, she has support our first queen of the border. She's put a lot of attention on period Beach. In fact, her California director came to Imperial Beach to visit her stop is in very involved in this issue, so she's been great on the tissue as well as Senator Feinstein, but it's time for a new direction and and that's what I'm putting My My name in the hat or handed the ring And you know there is a perception out there at some points where you know, San Diego geographically being where it is. So we feel that the state of times may forget about us or things like that. You know, putting San Diego right back up there and kind of raising our hand and saying, Hey, what about us? Yeah, you know, Right now we have two senators from Northern California from the Bay area, So obviously we need a lot more Southern California repetition and the fact that Southern California needs a lot of help. We've seen that during this covert Christ of some of the highest rates, obviously in the country in Southern California, especially here in South San Diego and along the border, So we're in trouble have the highest rate of unemployment in the state along the borderlands question. Imperial County so We're in trouble. We need to get someone to replace Senator Harris. She gets elected vice president who's fighting for California and every California and not just the ones who can write campaign checks, right? I think that's important to make sure that someone who works for every California In every corner of state and every family and put families and kids first for California
How Google, Apple, Facebook and other tech companies are getting out the vote on Election Day

David Pastrnak Missing Game 2 For Boston Bruins, Deemed ‘Unfit To Participate’
"Bruins on their Twitter page just put out a tweet, saying David Pasternack will not play in tonight's game. You know what they put us to why he will not play. He went and had dinner with his family. They put unfit to participate. What does that mean? That's what they tweeted David Pasternak and then in quotes, unfit to participate that will not play in tonight's game. Is that the nice way to say he's too fat tonight? I mean, by the way for you non Bruin fans, he is the Bruins top score. Oh, Well, that would be fun to watch.
Animal Crossing Sales and the Best Paper Mario Game
"Low and welcome to Nintendo voice chat. Jen's Nintendo podcast. I'm your host Casey defreitas's in this week, we will be talking about how animal crossing New Horizons is. Now the switches second best selling game will be talking a ton about paper Mario because it is the Japanese release anniversary of the original paper Mario, tennis sixty four, and of course, a whole lot. This week I'm joined by pair Snyder. Brennan Graber Low and for the first time Terry Shorts Hello Terry, you actually dude one of the paper Mario's for us I did I demanded it. No I asked very nicely and they were like, no in volunteers to review paper. Mario colors flashy sure Ken Yeah I guess it was funny because I didn't love it but I liked it more than sticker star but we had given sticker star a higher score in. So I got to my one review experience was the the fun joys of navigating like. How do I explain that? I like this more than the previous game but also explain why my score is lower than the previous reviews for I'm only a couple of hours into the new one though and I'm really enjoying it. Isn't that a pain though I'm sure everyone everyone deal with that before it's like. Well, I like it more than the swine they gave that one a really high score. So what do we do and then you know People figure it out like we all do. I don't know how you're asking. Hey, there are more than one person looks at Jin they had different opinions. Everyone knows it's not true. Pointed it out in the comments. Back back when we were running channels, we tried to make things match up and like even even when you have a small team of people reviewing all the sixty four games, you suddenly run into issues the moment like a playstation games ported and you're like, they gave obt and nine that's like a six for us, and so the moment like it just like trying to make things matchup between people broke down after less than a year. Funny? Teams I like first of all I'm so Casey. Thank you so much for having me on this episode because I love paper I, love the franchise and the First Paper Mario Game. We'll talk about it later but it's like tied for when my favorite games ever but it is funny because I realized recently came out when I was twelve open I totally. Have nostalgia for like it being perfection because my twelve year old Brian was like this is a perfect game and now I'm like an adult and consuming this in a different way. So probably who knows how if this was the first game that I played how I'd feel about it but it's such a special franchise and I'm glad we get to celebrate it. And I'm so glad to have you on this week not only to talk about paper Mario. But also I know you're a big Fan of animal crossing as well and I think it's pretty big news. The animal crossing your horizons is now the second best selling switch game. So nintendo released some financial data recently and we got a lot of INFO basically Emma crosses new highs sales have reached twenty, two million, which is crazy. It's insane right and can anyone guess what is beating it out for being the best selling? which game I'm sure every their Gal Mario Arts eight deluxe only other one. It's better that it's outsold smash and Zelda and Mario, Odyssey, which is insane yet Mario. Odyssey isn't even in the top five bestselling switch games anymore, which is also crazy. Yeah. I know people people always consider Games Lynn, ZELDA TO BE SYSTEM SELLERS Super Mario in the end. It is about booking on smash brothers animal crossing Mario, Kart those I usually at the top of every generation unless you have like a we sports or some odd ball game thrown into the middle bed like what's even more notable as you know, animal crossing is not a complete reinvention of animal crossing. So it's a little bit like an animal crossing deluxe, right? Like it's the best of all. The Games just like Mario Kart is not a new game. It's actually a re release of the last one. It'd be nice to see what what happens when they make a really new Mario Kart or a completely new game like that I? Think of all the the years to have to coast down the the fall lineup of not a whole lot. They're having animal crossing this year really helped kind of like ride that coaster of like what we we have a lot of profits this year. So maybe we'll have a giant released settle planned for this year that we know of. Looking, good for them. It's so lucky that came out when it did in in a really dark way because I think in a normal year, would we have seen animal crossing have this kind of response where I think which the stat fifty percent of all new consoles were playing animal crossing that during its release but it's at a time when it's coming out where people need to fill their time with something new and exciting and such an accessible game and everyone was playing it and celebrities were playing it, and so it's like during the pandemic when you're you're trying to fill all that time, it makes a lot of sense why this specifically. Blew up in such a big way especially more than all the previous installment. Did it really did get the corona bump but if you look at any sort of trend data available out there, if you look at twitter released a report on what people searched the most for or you know what topics were trending, the most like animal crossing on all these lists at this chart shows Google search interest in the biggest games in all of the Games on the list multiplayer games like call of duty war zone League of legends like any like any of the four, any of the big games and then animal crossing comes in goes. Like. CRANSTON. But it's not but it's not a competitive game where you're constantly, you know like you're measuring your rain or looking for versus yes you are very competitive with your island. No, it was just a right game at the right time we couldn't travel anywhere. So we wanted to show people

The Knowledge Lost in Information
"Every single day approximately five, hundred, million tweets are tweeted. Four million hours of video is added to youtube and four point three billion with a B. facebook messages are posted if a single person which are view only information uploaded to the Internet in just the last twenty, four hours, it would take longer than the entire span of recorded human history. The mistake is assuming that a deluge of information means that we are better informed not at all. In fact, a new report by Pew Research found that what they call quote extremely online people meaning those who relied primarily on social media for their political news are among the least informed and most easily deceived groups in America reason DOT COM described the Findings this way analyzing polls conducted from October of last year through June of two thousand, twenty pew found that just eight percent of US adults who get most of their political news from social media. Say They are following news about the two thousand election very closely compared with roughly four times as many among those who turn mostly to Cable News at Thirty, seven percent or print news at thirty three percent. The Pew study also confirmed these people self understanding when evaluated on their current political knowledge those who turned to social media for news scored lower than any other single group except for those who relied only on local TV those relying on a variety of sources including news websites, cable imprint news. scored the highest and interestingly exclusive facebook and twitter users did score higher in their knowledge of conspiracy theories such as that five G. calls coronavirus or Bill Gates plans to inject people with tracking microchips. In other words what someone finds illuminating versus luminosity largely depends on the amount of time they spend on social media. All of this underscores the fundamental myth of the information age that access to information is the same thing as knowing and that knowing about something is the same thing as wisdom and one of the choruses from the play the rock t s Eliot asked, where is the life we've lost in living? Where's the wisdom? We've lost the knowledge? Where's the knowledge? We've lost an information now he? wrote that in nineteen thirty four, what would he say about the Information Day today? How is it possible? Then in an age when the answer to almost any question we have is just a few taps or key strokes away that the least informed among us are those who do the most happening and the most typing as Elliot suggest we've confused information knowledge. We've confused knowledge with wisdom unfortunately, just shouting the truth more loudly or posting in an all caps on social media is not an effective response and fact Christians who see their job primarily is telling the truth rather than engaging people with the truth are often just lost voices among all the noise I'm painfully aware that even with my own children. One Stop on the information bus of their day, and there's a lot of stops. For example, it's far too common for parents to find the faith or moral convictions of their students completely derailed by some anti Christian claims or pseudo arguments that are just well silly. I mean, by claims that any apologised or any theologian for that matter, any coherent thinker could easily debunk in mere minutes. The answers are there, but these students are convinced by a particular set of. Voices, and they're not hearing the others even more often however students or just preoccupied with digital diversions that replace a hunger for finding truth without us. Huxley called an Appetite for distraction. These students like all the ones that were identified by Pew is being very online need more information like a drowning man needs more water. The only real antidote as Conklin I describe in the book, a practical guide to culture is discernment. It's an ability to sort through the excessive information. To identify which true and good, and then to make choices according to wisdom of course, developing discernment is a lifelong process, but it can begin with just a few very simple but careful questions like what do you mean by that? Is this true how does the Bible speak to this? Well God be honoured will the image of God be respected? Is this a trustworthy source? Is this intended for my good and is this helping us love and care about the right? Things we identify a whole series of useful questions for parents and offer other strategies for developing discernment in the book a Practical Guide to culture and the brand new students guide to culture and to be clear though I you for this revealing survey discernment is about much more than just being better informed voters. It's really ultimately about keeping our heads above water and age that's drowning us with information so that we can be people of truth of wisdom and of love.
Marcs Wild InfoSec World
"Is what's covert brought to us and the economic destruction that brought with it What's new? What's going on? Where to begin I. It's being nuts. So. One of the things they mentioned before but everyone's probably now I'm security researcher. So I'm also looking at security vulnerabilities all the time and breaking into style and and just watching the security research landscape is bonkers the last two and a half weeks I've seen over thousand vulnerabilities draw. Well I mean. It because people are homeless board I don't get it I think a little bit of all of the above so. Thankfully like most of these pitch being responsibly. Okay. Which of course begs the question how many went Well. But they're beans and doozy's I. mean you know the F. Five hundred not where suddenly we're dealing with Dr transversal that give you root again like what like I thought thirty years ago that was done we're seeing DNS, abilities Microsoft's Sigrid, which apparently is being the code base for seventeen years. which can my? Like You know. It's it's new it's new to somebody. Listening. Until had a whether, you want to call it a flaw or A. Nicely available feature in their code that somebody discover Oh crap. You can do bad security things with. You know your your teachers my. My functionality. Hey, I've been like I've grown up believing anything that makes mankin break. It's just a matter of time and resources. and. So I'm not surprised to see stuff, it's just the sheer weight of it coming out and there was some special challenges wall because like all of those phones pretty much where against infrastructure product. So against VPN products against firewalls against load balances, etc. That's bad news because like right now is when we want our infrastructure to be defended wool and so within the League, which is. For those now, it's a loose collective of law enforcement and security researchers. About fifteen hundred or so from eight different countries working to protect the healthcare industry The League's infrastructure team basically just INS and look to these one abilities looked where things we've honorable and try to assess what's the risk? How do we notify companies etc, and some of it was was pretty scary because some of the impacts the were coming out to the advisories where not really that will that you know that miss some really obvious. Severity points that missed how they vote could potentially be manipulated and given the fact that everyone sort of sitting around at home PFC's dropped for some of these in a matter of hours by the F. Five on there was a pse on twitter within about four to five house. Yeah. So I think this is a discussion that's been ongoing for since I've industry probably since you've been around too where the severity and impacted all those all those pieces that make up the how the criticality rating have seemingly been up for debate. For forever right we we've had We've had an a rating system that's been developed deck. We've probably had at least two that I can think of. Right And there's been frameworks and there's been. Lots of discussion across industry luminaries and and and everybody else alike. Where do you like? How do you determine where? Where are you? The discussion of how do we determine something's I know you've already got the face like I'm going to punch you if you out his lesson but. But the question is that I? Think it's legitimate is how do you get to a point where we all speak the same language on? This severity and impact the criticality of anything we drop vulnerabilities either in in an inner product in a in a company's infrastructure in
New Xbox Series X Controller Leaks Suggest Potential Launch Date
"Soft new xbox series ex consul confirmed and leaked controller packaging via the verge Microsoft is rumored to be unveiling its second cheaper next xbox console. Console this month and it looks like it will definitely be called. xbox series s the verge has obtained photos of Microsoft's new. Next Gen. xbox controller, and white complete with packaging that mentions the xbox series s twitter user. Zach S was able to purchase the controller today and we've confirmed it's genuine. The new controller was sold on a resale site today and side of the packaging notes that the controller works with xbox series X and. S Consoles make has not officially unveiled. An xbox series s yet nor has the company even confirmed that white xbox series x controller mysterious white xbox series controller also appeared online last month complete with the new deep add texture triggers in new share button. This league matches the previous controller leak and retail packaging suggests that this could be appearing in store. Soon, quote we have a lot in store for xbox in two, thousand, twenty, eight share. You says a Microsoft spokesperson in a statement to the verge. Announce at this time. So if you look on your twitter mice where timely in particular and I'm sure you're well, there are a lot of videos of these controllers being embarks in touched and flipped around, and I'm not sure we're. Watching right now. Yeah. Not sure where they're all exactly coming from I thought I had read something about stores being looted. And the thought is maybe they were in stock at that best buy that was being looted. Who knows because he rumored released? There was a rumor that the series was going to come out in August I believe. So if that was to be believed or maybe it's gotten pushback. Anyway, there's some rumored evidence that these controllers could be in at stores who could say, but if you look at the controller itself, it was I. Think you actually have an elite controller on your desk, don't you because the D pad for this new one looks very similar to that I mean at least it as it from this photo, and there is a share button in the middle and other than that. It looks incredibly similar. It does. But just fine with me. Honestly I. DON'T I. Don't mind that. I'm happy to dual shock is getting a makeover. 'cause that controllers always made my hands cramp after too long. The xbox controller I have no issues with. It's actually why it's my preferred to play on I the controller so much more comfortable. Yeah. My hand in twenty in two, thousand and ten, and prior to that, I really liked the playstation controller because smaller small hands. But since my like my hands kind of changed I find the xbox like much more comfortable like. There's something about it just works better for me now. Yeah. I. Think this Controller Looks Great. I love the white. Hat is something I might have to get used to. But I know it's something that I think a lot of gamers particularly more sports focus players want those those little side pieces between the deep had to do specific move sets on. It is weird that there's so many of them out in the wild, and like that one person posted that they bought one on offer up for thirty five dollars. That was a great deal I was like that's a steal for any controller. Let alone controller for an unreleased. Be. Somebody who didn't know what they had just like it's an exodus because it's a hot troll. I. Stole this new to offload it quickly. Pretty much. I, would I feel like that is when you know it's stolen merchandise selling it for thirty dollars and some weird website just like sure I'll take that and they just think it's probably the. Current, xbox controller because they look so similar. Wonders. Like. Are you buying Oregano here? You know it was. Like take an xbox controller. Crack Open, do some modifications externally. So to try to cheat a unreleased controller. Or is this is putting a button. Sensitive. briquetted thing they. They did some modifications to like and make up that story I don't know. La Interesting for people who aren't familiar with what offer up is essentially like a, let's go or a craigslist where you post pictures and then people in your vicinity can buy items from you and I've seen some very suspicious television posts on there before like come to my garage where I have all of these TV's in boxes that you can buy. One hundred dollars and I'm like. A feels like you took that off with trucks. I. Didn't take anything. But I think that this is, oh, sorry, go ahead. Bro. Say the back of the box. There are also photos of that. If anyone's interested, the deep has just described as refined. Yet familiar input nothing really there and the share button and share content seamlessly, and then it goes on about how there's. And Bluetooth support and the textured grip, and that's kind of it.
Turning Open Source Developers Into Superfans
"Today's topic. How do you create a platform that people not only us, but tell their friends about when that goes beyond just being useful and actually connects deeply with the user in this episode recorded at our crypto startup school. In April Twenty Twenty eight sixteen z General. Partner Chris, Dickson talked about building communities with get hub co, founder, Tom Preston Werner. Discussed how to engage early users, how to turn them into your biggest advocates had a create super fans and more. Today get hub is leading community for open source developers and others. The also discuss in-person communities versus distributed communities a topic that's very top of mind today. So here's Chris and Tom starting with the beginnings of get hub. So. How did the idea come about? That was while I was at power set and we were using get internally a little bit. I was working on an internal project with erling and. Co Workers I was working with Dave on introduced me to get. He was like, this is the greatest thing like the Lennox. Lennox Colonel Uses this. It has this really nice branching emerging model and he showed it to me and I was like this is this is pretty awesome. It's the command line stuff a little hard to use it like you have to have an account on a server somewhere and pushing and pulling from repository to repositories. Awkward. But I definitely saw the potential, and so we started using it internally power set and going to the ruby meet ups in San Francisco and just started thinking about how great it was, and but nobody was using nobody could. Really. The dominant reveal using over to using subversion was the most prominent open source. See some people would be using CVS. Some people were using perforce. But it's not only about trying to trying to make it possible for people to harness the power that I saw in being a web developer. I, I not make this, know how to write code that can read from disk and pull get objects of disk and give them into ruby so that they can be exposed a ruby on rails web site and I, thought that would be a cool project that I could work on accident projects with people that I knew and just started showing it around the community. and. So you this website and then you put it up ended immediately, Kinda get popular or did it take a long time or? Did, we did a a thing that we stole from. Marketing trip that they did with g mail where you you had some invites. So we gave people five invites, and the could invite the invites to their friends, and so there was this kind of artificial scarcity I. Mean, it was real scarcity too because we we had some very small server that we were running this thing on. And so it was sort of a dual. Dual, effort to to. Lever, some of that artificial scarcity that that makes people want I want, I want it. I want everyone could see it, but not everyone can have an account, and so we manage the accounts that way early on anyone could read, could you could see it and pull the repositories, but not necessarily sign up. Right. You had to have an invite to sign up. So. That worked I. Don't know if that works anymore. I. Haven't seen people do too much of that anymore. But at the time it was it was quite successful. I get created a lot of buzz. People just talking around I. Think Twitter was quite early then but people were talking about on twitter. and and people really seem to like it and. I don't know just people started signing up for it, pushing up random code here and there, and it immediately I think struck a chord with people as far as the capabilities version control and what you could do. Once you realize that you had easy branching and merging. offline capabilities. It was super super? Fast. And now with a website where you could push a coding collaborate on it. And make it so that you could use get and have it not be the hardest thing in the world it just it just it grew linearly. Our user base linearly for almost the entire time that I was there was this was not a a super exponential curve like you see in a lot of startups, you're always like I need that exponential growth curve. Are I'm doomed? For us it was, it was quite linear. We grow by some x thousands of users a month, and we sustain that for for months and months and months and. Years on those numbers would grow. So it wasn't exactly linear. And, then you know over time, it would get faster, but it was mostly, it was. It was. Quite linear, but the income was also linear, which is nice. The income just kept coming as well.

I got the establishment and now I have left this all hating me. So it's fun for everybody. So you you gotTA learn how to lose zone it out. There's there's just no other way to survive on twitter and and so I viewed My replies as kind of an insane asylum and every once in awhile open the door and there's people in straitjackets bouncing off the white walls. I'll get a good laugh out of it and then I'll closing all go away for twenty three hours and thirty minutes and they're still in there yelling yelling at the top of their lungs right So unless you have that kind of attitude it's gonNA swallow you whole. I mean I talked to somebody that had six eight of comments that lost their minds. I get I don't know a couple of thousand negative comments every single day from every political faction. There is and the folks were on here. Ilan the PODCAST Jolt Center from the right wing. Don't worry now the left is hate me more than you guys. So we're all good at the back. That could be a badge of honor for you Joe. You're in the media when I guess one of the questions that I was baffled by a little bit this week is I mean Jenkins Right. It's it's just an insane asylum on twitter but does it not get a lot of attention from the press. I mean it's twitter in some ways sort of guiding what we discussed in the media. Well I think it's interesting to watch. How the press corps uses twitter when I was covering the two thousand sixteen campaign as part of the traveling press or I was often surprised by how much time the journalists spent on twitter. We would get to a rally and there's little pin where the journalists go and file in there and you plug in your computer and you sit down on the mall. The local journalists from whatever state or city urine and there's a great opportunity to interview people in the crowd to take in the scene and yet so many of the national journalists. Sit there and just go on twitter and I was shocked to see that. It's still goes on. I think people do it partly for the narcissistic dopamine hit. Did they get when they get re tweeted or for the thrill of the fight or because it's kind of like high school and they're trying to fit in with the popular crowd and more people like you on twitter to get the right people that like you were follow you? I guess it's sort of a rush. But I think so. Much of our press courts become distracted by the inside baseball of that social media world at the expense of getting out and talking to people. About what motivates them to support the candidates that they do. Is They just laziness? It's easier to get a quote from a tweet than it is to actually talk to somebody on the street and find out. Is that what what what people are doing? Is that whether using it as journalists. I think so. It's also easier to find people making mistakes on twitter in you know you can talk to somebody and you can follow up with a question. Are they sure they meant to say extra? Why and they can correct themselves qualify. Something they've said on twitter. You don't have to do that. So if you want to. Cast people as being on polar opposites of an issue with trae easy to do on twitter. Twitter also different from us to social media platforms like facebook on facebook. Most people interact with people. They know from other context. So if you are putting your political opinions out there you're going to offend or alienate of your relatives. Neighbors classmates workmates etc on twitter. You tend to gather community around yourself. That already agrees with you. You don't even know what these people are. You don't even know if there are people but there are twitter will follow you re tweet you or Tweet against you based entirely on the content of what you're saying not on some other relationship and so I think the fact that people have gravitated toward twitter as the medium in which we have political debate has also helped polarize things because we only know sometimes through these twitter exchanges in the broader context in which we might know someone see their political views as part of some personal journey or look beyond a political difference to see something we have common. That doesn't exist on. Twitter does exist on facebook. That's one of the reasons I don't post about politics. My personal facebook page and instagram. I use for pretty pictures of the beach in animals and stuff like that. I don't use each social platform way but a lot of people do and I think that accounts for some of the feeling of alienation people have. You can have tough day on twitter where people are fighting. You're coming at you for some reason. Can fuel that if you are treating it like facebook which is really a community of people you already know from other context twitter as someone said. This week is basically accessible. It's simply an open forum or at least it was until they started labelling fact checks on the president and only the president so far. Because if you're trying to find that information on twitter and you're surprised.

"Okay to be excited. I would be mindful of the ways that physically manifest so things like rocking in your chair. Tapping the table. I'm somebody who fidgets little bit when I have that. Nervous energy or excitement. So whenever I'm interviewing I always put a pen in my hand. Usually because I'm taking notes while I'm being interviewed but it helps me to. Just keep my hands still and not fidget. Okay future troops and turns if you're nervous during the interview. Try this. It's magic I don't know if you watch family feud but you always have that one person that buzzes the Buzzer to early and gives an answer. That's completely different from the question was asking. That happens in real life as well right. You're so eager to respond that mentally. You're not even listening to it's being asked. Silence is not a bad thing in an interview. Take the question in. Ask clarifying questions at least here at Twitter. We have paired interviews for example. And that's for reason we WANNA simulate that collaborative environment. We want to really show you what it would be like to work here so known ever feel like you're there on your own responding to an interview bring your interviews with you. Bring them along for the journey. Show them how you're thinking and if you're nervous don't feel bad saying that you are nervous right. Show them again that vulnerability interviewing it's not an easy thing and I think we all understand that so when I noticed that the candidate seems to be in this excitable state the first question I asked him is. Are you nervous and you know? They're like nervous excited all that I asked them to put a number on it and then I say okay. Imagine that coming down and as I say these things I tell them look. I'm here to seek out a collaborator and a team mate. I WanNa see the best in you. I as your interviewer. I'm rooting for you. I want you to do your absolute finest work here. Because I'd like to see what it's like for us to see.

"For applying into work a twitter but stick around. We'll get to what you should do. Favorite resume my gosh. I know you're say word resumes. Oh my God I can't even tell you how many angry tweets John has put into the on this topic for you. John Fine Yes or no cover letters. No I mean no if you can't express what you're trying to express in your resume like that's already red flag but maybe it's a really complex situation like you. Circus Acrobat is pretty complex. I guess but no. I can't think of very many reasons. One Lauren what about you not in as a student early early on your career. There's just really no reason for a cover letter. I really think that comes with time and experience. I'm a hard. No we're in the digital age. You know were twitter. Were two hundred renege characters. Get to the point. What do you think about two? Page resumes absolu- Lane Not for students on the university side. We say no. Oh to to page resumes unless you are a PhD student than we think. It's okay I hate when I get resumes that are like many autobiographies autobiographies with lots and lots and lots of texts. Especially for university recruiting. We have tens of thousands of applicants. So you'll get much resume to reading time. You have ten seconds with Dr. Do you WanNa get across and ten seconds. And that's pretty good advice for students enroll. If someone's is going to pick up your resume you probably have ten seconds. Look what do you really want to get across. I hated bat. Formatting drives me nuts. I don't mind obviously if if your name is bigger than the title and things like that but I can tell I maybe throughout the resume bath so that formatting doesn't have consistency there's GonNa be multiple also people looking at your resume but I i. I'm looking at it. It's going to be a recruiter. So if you have too much jargon maybe or too many things that we don't the recruiter would understand That's probably not great if it goes through the recruiter gatekeeper. If it goes through us and we think it looks good. We'll pass it on to an engineer. Who Build a read more your jargon so try to think of it was to target audiences who are going to be looking at your resume and that's who you want to communicate with? Yes or no objective on your resume sometimes so like if you you are a for instance circus acrobat in your plying for a sales job at twitter you might WanNa have an objective. Just explain the context because if you just have bullet points might not make makes sense of why I see Lauren. What about you? I don't know if I may yes or no. I have to think about that but I think that your objective should add to your resume so if it just says that Era Smiley Happy Worker Bee. You didn't really add anything to your resume. But John Brings up a great point that his objective added something to his resume. Your those five seconds consol someone something like I guess. I'm a no but there are exceptions. Yeah I'm in no exceptions. Even though my resume did have one but it doesn't now now I haven't my experience speaks itself now but when I started my experience did not speak for itself so I felt the need to do this. "Diplomacy used to be a rarefied dignified art. The Affairs of nations were conducted with both appropriate consideration and due to coal Kurram one would no more stint on the time honored protocols than one would turn up a funeral wearing a Hawaiian shirt and flip flops. This was of course at a time when the world turned more slowly when the lack of connections between capitals allowed perhaps ironically for more measured and sagacious interactions presidents and prime ministers had time to think this is not you'll have noticed where we are now diplomacy like all other forms of discourse has had to adapt to a world in which anything can be broadcast anytime by anybody including those who governors and very much including the most powerful person on earth social media like old technology is no more or less than what we make of it but what is he's diplomacy making of social media the hurly burly of twitter in particular. "You shouldn't allow these types of threats you shouldn't allow mobbing or bullying all of those arguments aren't a continuum the all about us saying how other people should associate and speak. The this is heresy in this building, the culture, free speech. Is bullshit. Okay. The culture of free speech. The culture of free speech is a way to elevate. The argument you shouldn't say that you should say this. It's to pretend that when you're saying that you are a free speech champion rather than a sensor. The culture of free speech is telling people how they should associate or not associate how they should speak or not speak who should that allow in their living room or not because after all who you allow your living room and who's living room, you go to is very much a part of who you are. It's a part of your free association, and your expression. The culture of free speech by no stretch of the imagination should require you to say, well, I really don't want to. But to be pro free speech, I need to let Ken white coming into my living room every night in rant for a few hours about how terrible fourth edition dungeons. And dragons was it's creepy. It's weird. I'm really not interested. I think he's a little harsh on it. Actually, it had some really innovative ideas. But I mean, it's the culture of free speech. Of course, you wouldn't say that because you recognize that how you order your lives as part of how you identify yourself. It's part of who you are. And it's part of your expression. It's the same with Twitter or Facebook or YouTube the companies are deciding how to brand themselves. So are deciding how to sell themselves is it mercenary, obviously, it is. But how much human speech isn't mercenary on some level or another? Mcdonald's is mercenary and how they. Market themselves, and how they portray themselves every business is. The market that we talk about the marketplace of ideas that we trust to order things rather than having the government order it. Operates on an individual level. What I mean is that we don't say you have to let me into your living room to rant because of the marketplace of ideas, we say that if people find my ranting, entertaining, then they'll let me in to their living room part of the marketplace of ideas is that businesses like Twitter and Facebook and YouTube will in the long term in the long run rise and fall with whether or not their users feel they're giving them an experience that they want whether or not they feel that they are being unfairly suppressed whether some point of us being suppressed in it's unacceptable. Whether I can't say what I want. I can't meet the people I want or not. And if you buy into the idea that you will never overturn the Twitter or Facebook juggernaut. I have some words for you GO cities. My space yahu. We are in this age where we have ten or twelve news cycles day. So we think in very short term, and it's impossible to think of something like Twitter Facebook, not being the dominant social media entity, but time passes and things changed no-one says the marketplace of ideas is going to be instant, no one says that you're going to build the social media network that works the way you want it to overnight that it won't take time to persuade people to get other people to come with you to patronize that business does things the way you want. If you like fried chicken, all you have in town is McDonald's you're going to be disappointed for a while. But sooner or later, you'll get a KFC. So the marketplace of ideas says that you've got to work and gather people together and persuade people not to do the same thing not to only talk or debate or socio the way you want to but enough together to form a critical mass. So that you have a platform. So you have other people who will like you have maybe gab is your thing. Or maybe Twitter is your thing..

"Enjoy. I'm told by marketing, we should be encouraging you to grab their Fernan, stole it for them. I think it's a bit aggressive. But if you think you've got that kind of relationship eyesight guy forward, I today big changes to Twitter. Well, big changes. Find out what happens when you open up Twitter at the moment is you get something that sort of like it's a mixture of things that just happened, and there's a mixture of tweets that it rises to the top because he thinks you came about according to an algorithm, very similar to what Facebook does, but Jeremy cook is changing has changed really. So Twitter's kind of listen to people who follow. It very closely allowed you to do have completely chronological timeline. So this is where you actually just see tweets as they appear. So previously, they kind of had this algorithm acc- timeline where they wouldn't inject content, popular content sometimes from people you didn't follow into there and you could sort of shut this off by until box and says, don't show the best tweets, but it still Twitter gripe that was the exact way you can look at the media tweets, but not the best, but it's still kind of injected these sort of things in there. And so what happens is ends up being sort of scrambled experience. And so the more people you follow Twitter, the more just becomes sort of fire hose. And so a lot of people just wanted to, I just wanna see what's happening straight industry time line, and so they did it. And so I don't know. I tried it. I turned off the best ways and try to morning. I was like, yeah, I like this immediately because you're actually seen sort of the relevant stuff from the people that you're following rather than some kind of rent occasionally row. Random stuff. I got really sick of saying tweets, that would twenty three hours old. And the only reason I would love you because that got Monterey toys, a lots of height and lots of attention usually for not very good reasons as well. And they'll massively at a into sort of, I felt like an affront to the concept who tweeted to me, but also just like it felt like you only looking at things generated outright, which is already one of the big problems to anyone. That's just the problems with the internet full stop in yet. Look, I think it's real interesting. I, I think it's worth saying that they introduced these sort of messed up time line calling. It messed up pulling out what they would like to have it cold. Oh, expect an angry from Twitter PR and forty five minutes only back in two thousand sixteen..

"There's a third appear that I think that we ought to mention just because it's really new and it's it's interesting to me, which is chirpy and chirpy is Twitter on your apple watch, which I thought was just a completely bananas idea until I tried it and it actually, it worked pretty well. It's a fairly rich app. You can compose tweets, you can view your time line. You can reach wheat things. There's all sorts of aspects Twitter that you can you can accomplish right from your watch. It literally doesn't have the iphone app is nothing more than kind of shell really to deliver the apple watch up. And I even the other day, someone had tweeted a video and I tapped play, and it actually played the video with the sound. The sound was coming out of my apple watch, and it wasn't exactly playing video. It was more like it was playing a selection of images from the video. You know, it was kind of like grabbing frames every. Tenth frame or something and displaying them like a slide show almost. But you know, in a pinch, if you're on your apple watch, it worked pretty well for for what it was. I was really kinda surprised how well it worked. So do you regularly use it? Do you keep it on your apple watch? Well, it's on my apple watch now, but I don't think it's the best way to experience Twitter. Notwithstanding the fact that it strikes strikes me as a really interesting technical compliment to make it work on the watch, but I wouldn't recommend it as the way use Twitter. But if you, if you really wanna see your time line and you don't happen to have your your phone with you. It is. It is a way to do that. That's not something that I feel compelled to do when I'm out and about without my phone, which is pretty rarely anyway, but it's there and it works pretty well for what it does. I remember this client called, I dunno twine. You would say that I would say twin. My twins, Twitter, I am as was the the idea there. So what, what happened to these kind? What what did he do and what happened after the API shutdown? Well, so the what twin did was it worked as an instant messaging platform on top of Twitter direct messages. So it had its own built in set of emoji and worked really like when you open it up at looked very much like you were in the messages app or something similar to that, what's app, whatever it is, but it was all built on top of DM's. And it was interesting take on messaging because it was a way to reach people who might not use the same messaging platform that you do, but are also people who use Twitter and the problem with the API changes is that one of the things that happened is that direct message notifications are delayed. So now all of a sudden. Sudden, instead of those messages coming back and forth, really close to instantly like it would messages or what's apper, whatever they're delayed by two to five minutes or so, which really kind of ruins the instant message experience. Plus third party apps aren't allowed to do group direct messages, so you don't..

"And then should it be taken literally when she says, white people to she mean white people, or does she mean what is like the social Justice Twitter's construct of white people, which is referencing a particular, albeit somewhat fuzzy thing that's very different. And so just something that seems to me to be happening in in some set of these cases, is there stuff where people are taking satire Twitter? Another version of this is James Gunn who was just fired from. Directing guardians of the galaxy for tweet years ago, said among others, he made a lot of, I would say very bad jokes on Twitter, but an illustrative tweet here is the best thing about being raped is when you're done being raped, it's like this feels great, not being raped. So like you read that, like, that's fucked up joke. And on the other hand, it came in a context. He's a comedian. He was a sort of Twitter provocateur at the time. It's one of these problems trying to explain a joke, right? And so we seem to be in this place where Twitter is uniquely vulnerable because of the way the whole thing is designed to being searched and then pulled out of context into a different time and then quite bad faith trolls and some in some case on both sides. But in this case on the outright go to corporations and say, hey, look at this. Are you going to stand by this tweet corporations legally can't make jokes as far as I can tell. And so then you end up with these in the generous case, catastrophic miss readings in the less generous case cynical, miss readings, but it's all based on this pretty new. Indication form that has a lot of interpretive ambiguity built into it. Right. And I think that that's something to note is that a lot of this is from people with the most generous of readings. People who do not understand the time, sensitivity of Twitter, how context dependent is I was joking on Twitter that a lot of my tweets from when I first got on, it's all about college football. It is all taking place during football games. So it sounds as if I am having an existential crisis for about three hours every Saturday from two thousand nine to two thousand fourteen..
