Fresh update on "twins" discussed on Coast to Coast AM with George Noory

"All right, So Alberto Cubby Euro Amateur astronomer, you have Ah YouTube channel that focuses on exoplanets and This may be Some kind of confirmation bias. But I think you're offering as good an explanation as anybody for the Wow signal. In fact, you're getting a lot of attention. For your theory. Were you surprised at how far the story got covered around the world? Yeah. I mean the idea. I was surprised because I know it is a famous signal signal, so everything related to that will get attention from the media competition. Especially and research papers, and he wouldn't e mean it's kind of funny that we don't really get a new papers about. We don't really get me a research about the world's, you know, because because it's something that happened. Many, many years ago, right when we sleep anything similar to that from their coach from that region, So there have there have not been many research papers about this. So there once. You have a paper about this year? Yeah, she's over. Media starts focusing on this, but it was I did. I would never expect the daily meal, for example, covering these right off course a ton of international coverage for your paper for an amateur astronomer. And you would have thought that this would have been ripe for professional astronomers or other astrophysicist this or PhD students to be writing about, but You are the center of this conversation and what you offer is that reviewing publicly available databases. You are. You have put together a theory, which, if I can sum it up well, Is that There is a star. That is What we might think of as being like a twin of the sun. Located far away from our son, of course, located in the part of the sky, where the Wow signal originated and that around that sun, maybe exo planets that Contain life. Similar intelligent life similar to life here on Planet Earth is that accurate? Yes, he kept them. So how? How do you come to that conclusion? Well, yeah. I mean, these two spaced on many, many assumptions. The first one is that the assumption that the signal would have came from A simple, efficient similar glass, which is quite a big assumption, because maybe I'm a professional civilization and valiant extraterrestrial civilization could lead in an extra planning totally different to our very planet. They could all be there explain. It made my daughter a grid work start, which is quite a small compared compared to the sun. So we're not physically able to leave their in their planet because it's off the X ray radiation and they're not able to live here because maybe they need that that radiation murder right? So it's quite a big assumption. To think of that signal could have come from Ah, because actually what they sell habitable exoplanets around red dwarf stars. Right. How did double but they can't because the habitable songs didn't have water on people are gonna be, for example, is one of something off light years away, So the first assumption is that it's the signal came from intelligent civilization. That's it. Politician would be leaving behind a planet similar to our planet on me. Therefore, the spark could also be similar. So we're basically the Guardia Archive, she say they they think that a soft the European Space Agency it is available to everyone and actually, what ideas could actually have been done by anyone on my paper? It's actually be proved that it is not really. It's quite a cheap ace debater, too, with onto right So anything. I believe anybody could have done what I did. We can let me just point out that people can link up to your paper at our website. Which way put the paper it coast to coast. Am calm so they can read this. And I want to go back and I just want to re explain that part about a red dwarf or a case star that this would be that the The similarities that you think that this could exist in light of where it is. And now what we know in 2000 and 13, which they didn't know. Back in 1977 at Ohio State University. They didn't know that then. Because that database hadn't been assembled yet. That knowledge wasn't available yet. So why do you think? They would be reaching out to us What would be the purpose of sending a signal? Or was it just random? A. Yes I mean, would question is I always treated you know that to try to understand how an extraterrestrial politician woman behaves. I try toe. Think how great it compares to ourselves, for example, so far from Earth we have only sent Very few radio. She knows tow me. How did double extra planets and they have not been with it? If we have actually sent those emails to those planets just once or twice? Not? Why along Because why? Why are we Why are we just said in them once or twice? Why are we sending them regularly? So that they would know that this is not random on our end. Yes, well, this is the this is because in this traditional that we have sent this in there is still a ethnicities having happen, not being official. They have not said that they have not been sent by NASA. But you know the European Union the organizations they have sent yet, for example, I remember the they won't reply. We call it the world replied, but it's actually not May call it like that, because it was a message sent. We sent from my receiver from the observatory of tired people who, you know, not their toe. The book to try to contact US acquisition on the message was sent to three different sports, but not off them inside the region where they won't see Nawas Detective So I don't know why they call it the world replied because because trying to make it look like the initiative we have sent so far. They're just on the idea of sending them. It's just too actually in my in my opinion. Actually to trade to encourage people to become interested in this topic spreads dark rather than actually going to make a contract. Okay, so that would be what we call a publicity stunt. They're doing it just right just to attract attention to themselves, and we'll get to callers in just a second. Let me ask you, though. What was in the message that we sent out? To these distant Sons or these different stars that we three different ones that we sent it to what was in our message. You know well for dedicating the issue of the awarded 15 Watch Twitter messages. We sent their 1000 twitter messages from different celebrities off television, etcetera on did their biggest included. I probably binary code on a shirt. But, yeah, well yesterday sent Twitter So, but it didn't. We didn't send a message that said, like by Coca Cola, or we didn't like It wasn't like we were. We were. There was something that we sent like, Hey, we are from Earth. You know, call us up if you're in our part of the galaxy, that kind of thing. Yeah. Yeah, but toward peace is specific transmission. I don't think I think it was probably a little bit more complex, like everybody actually participate. They could actually include some theater in the transmission, of course, another way. The message is that we have sent off course. They have been actually more specific about that..

Claims of election fraud risk Senate race for Georgia Republicans.

David perdue and kelly low-floor threading the needle on the campaign trail calling themselves the last bastion against democratic priorities without explicitly. Admitting trump lost the november third election the january five runoffs critical for each party while biden narrowly carried the state. Georgia has not elected a democratic senator in two decades losses by both perdue and low floor would deadlock the senate giving vice president-elect kamala harris the tie breaking vote some republican officials say. Trump's repeated attacks on the election is rigged could depress turnout among his core supporters. Many republicans were two points right now where they don't trust the outcome of the system. Gabriel sterling republican official who oversees voting systems. Said on monday as news conference. All we can send. This is going to wind up. Suppressing the votes to a degree absolutely trump's unsupported allegations that election fraud caused his defeat. The party's civil war in georgia could turn off moderate voters who might otherwise be inclined to support the republican incumbents.

"It except for those in your Every young, But I believe the energy will be out there in the air that we all here at the station were hoping and pleading that and step up to the road that she has because she is so beloved here and Just a bad ass in every every which way. So she just continues to amaze all of us And so, except s so ecstatic that she is at the helm the ship right here. She will not lead us a strait. So there's a compilation that just came out the finals, been repressed a couple times and limited edition and sells out right away. It's AH cat name George Miller. Elbow, grease and and and knuckle dust. In order to try to find you probably never would. And if you did, it would be like pay rent or buy this single tune. It's kind of like that. Coronavirus infection rates continue to rise in the U.S.

"I would like to start by introducing you to nikki. tomlinson nikki. Tomlinson is an icu. Nurse at great plains health which is in north platte nebraska. At one point in time we had a physician here that everybody knew really well known him for a long time. Then a family doctor for a long time. That was my lowest point I still get teary thinking about it That i've been a nursing for twenty years and that was actually my breaking point. I when he didn't make it i had to. I already had some time off scheduled in that couldn't come at a better time I couldn't get through the next day of work without breaking down for an hour Our every hour was that was probably my darkest time at work. My darkest time over and my last twenty years of nursing so that was a. I was hard and then seeing some other family and friends come in That have fought this. That have beat this. That are scared along the way and other patients. That just aren't making it. I've never seen anything like cova. There's i we don't we just don't know enough about it. We learn new things every day and it seems like things change every day and i it. Just that's the one thing. That's constant about covid fluctuate senate changes and we just learn new things all the time. And that's what makes it scary. I've been a nurse for twenty years. And i've never experienced out like this. It's we're working. Extra shifts were working. We do great as a team but the the stress the emotional stress the physical stress that it is putting on us being there for the patients. Which is what we got into nursing. Four we're the only ones that can be there for some of these patients that most emotional stress losing them. is just. I've never experienced anything like it before. So the emotional and the physical stress. It's exhausting absolutely exhausting. I don't know how we are getting through it. We are but. I don't know how what i'm thankful for right now. During all this time is my health. My fellow coworkers health and my family know my family understanding how many how i have to work the long hours and not always be home during all of this And adapting to a can't touch mommy when you get home or to run and take a shower and And their health. I just hope it continues. But she's thankful for is her own health and the fact that her family doesn't have this. The family hasn't gotten it and she hopes that continues. That's what she's thankful for. Last night. i talked here about my own experience being home in quarantine. I tested negative. But i've been taking care of my partner. Susan while she sick i just wanna say to. Everybody reached out and was so nice. Response it was overwhelming. Actually was really kind. It was had to pick a word. I would say it was boolean to me and susan. So thank you everybody. But you know susan i will be are going to be okay. We are coming out of this. She is coming out of that. She is going to recover the people who i'm really worried about. I'm thinking about even as we're going through our own experiences beyond everybody who's sick and suffering right now. Susan has been these past couple of weeks beyond the eighty thousand plus americans who are in the hospital right now with kovic. The most we've ever had mean beyond the people who are suffering directly themselves trying to fight for their lives with this thing that people are really worried about the healthcare workers who are all over the country right now. We're staring down both barrels of this without the kind of support that they had in the spring when this all started with this now just tidal wave of cases and hospitalizations and deaths all coming down on them directly and personally in a way that does not feel sustainable in terms of them being able to keep doing it and terms of keeping them back stop keeping them supplied keeping them at work keeping the american health system open and able to function so frankly not to be too blunt about it but so save abol people can be saved. That's what i'm worried about. Is our health workers right now in the strain on them this many months into it with things. This bad right now i mean. Here's the front page. Today of the atlanta journal constitution. And you see the mix there right. I mean politically. Of course the big news out of georgia is that georgia. This is this morning's papers. They finish their recount. Yesterday showed once again. That biden clearly won the stage that set the stage. Today for georgia formerly certify its results and of course that's significant news. We'll talk more about that later tonight but but look at. What else is sharing the front page with that. Huge political news right see. Stay home for the holiday. Georgia state health official. Ads rethink traditional thanksgiving below that. There's the biggest front page headline in atlanta. Today it makes me shake with anger. That's a quote from a doctor who works in a covert war in atlanta talking about people blowing off the risk as the number skyrocket and as the hospitals get overwhelmed. You see their healthcare workers on the front lines feel. They are fighting a losing battle as public floats safety rules. That's georgia today. It's the same song up in minnesota. Today this is the west central tribune in willmar minnesota front page headline today. A plea for help. Hospitals are perilously close to running out of workers. It's one thing to run out of beds beds can be found in moved and bought but enough healthcare staff to take care of patients who are in those beds. That is what we are running out of in rural minnesota and all over the country. Here's the first column in that same paper today. Case rates skyrocket in the region again. That's west central minnesota. Here's the front page of the news star in monroe louisiana blunt headline hospitals overwhelmed. Here's the front page in grand junction colorado. Today the daily sentinel county says. Icu beds are full. Here's the front. Page in muncie indiana. Today the star. Press in muncie. Indiana hospitals cove in nineteen rates. Sores in indiana go to wyoming. The casper star tribune today casper wyoming deaths rise by record number. Something has got to turn this around kentucky. Here's the lexington kentucky paper. The herald leader kentucky sets staggeringly high new record for coronavirus cases. Go to new mexico the albuquerque journal today cova cases explode up in washington state bellingham herald. State virus rate's the worst since the beginning of pandemic all over the country right and as as overwhelming as this crisis is may now tonight. We've just learned that. The president's eldest son and namesake. Donald trump junior has it as well he has tested. Positive is reportedly isolating hope that he doesn't get symptoms so far apparently doesn't god blessed and maybe the president's eldest son who has such a high profile in the republican party now and in conservative media. Now maybe that will have an impact on thinking about this thing at the white house and in the conservative media on the right maybe even if the president himself getting it didn't seem to light a fire under them. I don't know but as overwhelming as this crisis is we are avoidably at this moment in history where we have two huge totally unprecedented crises. Heading simultaneously the minneapolis star tribune. Today i was actually a pretty good snapshot of what the heck we as americans are supposed to do with the twin disasters. We've got all at once and look at the front page at the minneapolis star tribune today a raging forest fire virus sweeps minnesota state to get ambulances from fema for surge importantly those are staffed ambulances so ambulance with their crews from fema going into minnesota to help them deal with patients and the need to move patients in hospitals. That are overwhelmed

Practical Advice for Parenting Strong-Willed Children

"I sent you used to be. This is what i love about. You used to be both a teacher and then you were in law enforcement. I mean what a combo career that must have been really teacher. I mean kids must love that they did because you can always get them back with a good cop story can always get the attention back a lot of respect in the classroom and you've done so much you've written so many books and you really do have a heart for the strong well kids because you were one weren't you. Yes i am. One because outgrow it I have one because my mother prayed that would be so. And i talked to so many thousands of them over the past couple decades. And it's just it's so rewarding to be able to have that not only have that in common but to have them share with me yet. This boy i could have written this book. This is truly how i think. Let's mention that book because it is a great book for parents who are dealing with this and even parents who don't know if they are are they are not dealing with a strong willed child. that title is. You can't make me but i can be persuaded expanded. Love that title at tell us the attributes of a strong willed child whereas a parent. How do we start discerning. A strong willed child behavior. But you can really probably from the womb. The mothers i could from the beginning But about eighteen months or so By eighteen months you can really see some patterns emerging and is not negative and strong willed and of its as very positive. And you want all your kids to have a certain amount of strong well but how you guided how you direct it. You see strong convictions You see determination you see Where the not easily daunted not easily discouraged doesn't necessarily take no for an answer. You can tell me it's impossible to do but all i think is you mean. It's never been done yet. Nope window those attributes start appearing. One two three i think. Even an infancy Personally having been mom's wins. Especially i could see. I felt design had twins. I have one boy in one place and one in the other and even before they were born. I saw isn't that and that was strange. But especially in todd hood and it really shows up in the they we call them the terrible twos but they really kind of turbulent tooth but all through their life and i it depends again. How much shows up depends on the kind of parenting style and whether or not the strong willed child has an opportunity to exhibit those traits in a positive way but all through your life and you never ever outgrow it but some of the most successful people in the world have a really good strong dose strong. Well it's just when you're a parent and you strong little child is young. They have to practice on you. Because i mean when you think about it. Who else do you want him to practice on right budding young attorneys and politicians and preachers and sales people and if we can just guide it and directed in the right way. God has given us a great compliment. Strong child. i remember one of The incidences with my strong willed child gene was having a tea for the ladies and she'd put out all these chocolates on the table and several were missing by the time the t. came around and she said to trent i just unnamed name strong deterrent. Did you eat all these chocolates. And he said no. Why are all these chocolates missing. And he said. I didn't need all of them. I ate some of them. That's what a strong willed child will say. A Holiday Survival Guide for Difficult Conversations

"Nice to see you again good to see you. Thanks for coming in. Have you try and get you on the show along. Yeah i'm pleased. I'm really pleased that you were able to get to new york city for this as you know fascinated by your work and we're going to dive into it. Can i start with your meditation career. And i'd love to hear how. I i also i think you also do Gone which i don't know much about. Yeah so i'd love to learn about both of those things. Well i started to gung meditation practice twenty years ago and two thousand two thousand the year. Two thousand so. I'm a practitioner. I'm not an expert. I'm not a teacher. Never written about it. But i had a good friend who was into it then had a master who taught locally in the twin cities and just decided to try it in mostly because i was interested in reducing stress in my life and i i loved it and i started out twenty minutes a day. I started out with the video of the master doing the moves. And so i just sort of watch and follow him. Then a weaned and my way off. The video started with twenty minutes and now i do forty minutes every morning. So i'm i don't really know what it is. Well it's Chinese spiritual and healing practice. So it's five thousand years old and it combines a breathing and gentle movements and there's a the theory behind it that i'm you know i'm not sure i'm into the theory so much but energy in the body as she that's right as a source of healing so the master studied with as a healer and i'm not into that as much as i meant to just deep relaxation breathing and gentle movements and it just calms me and centers. Me and i tend to have sometimes creative ideas during. Are you telling me that. The life of marriage counselor stressful well. I'm an academic. And i do a lot of community engagement work and i live a fairly intense life and that includes my clinical specialty couples on the brink of divorce. You know so. I'm like an intensive care physician. So all of that can add up to a fairly intense life and this meditation practice just grounds me and i felt at every day grateful to be alive. Well how does it ripple out to the rest of your life. Well a lot of the work. I do both with couples and also my work with As we'll get into my work with better angels where we deal with conservatives and liberals who are at odds with each other did you notice that A lot of it is for me is about. How do i manage myself in the face of conflicting people and conflicting agendas where the stakes are high. And so the meditation practice adds into my therapist training to do what we call them. The jargon phrase emotional self regulation and centeredness in the face of difficult interpersonal situations. I've watched you at work. I went to the national was the first better angels. National conference watched you do your thing and you're aecom dude at least on the outside. yeah well when. I'm in my work in my modem. Actually come inside to. Because i'm doing. This is what we're here to do folks so let's do and let me help you engage each other. Let's talk about the better angels. Just give me some background on how the group got started. Remember the two thousand sixteen presidential election vaguely. Yeah a lot of people. Remember that one about ten days after that election to long term colleagues of mine who had worked on marriage and family issues one in new yorker david blakenhorn upper east side of manhattan. The other david lapped southwest. Ohio south lebanon ohio universes apart in terms of how people there felt about the election. They were on the phone together. Howard new yorkers doing only ensuite new york upper east side manhattan gloom and doom of funeral and in ohio hope and change and they decided on the spur of the moment to get together. Ten hillary clinton voters and ten tunnel drunk voters for a weekend in southwest ohio in december. To see if any of the gaps could be bridged and then they called me. And i said oh. That's pretty brave. What we thinking of doing with them and they said they didn't know they thought i could figure that part out if they recruited the people and i remember sitting at my home desk hoping i was not free that weekend. You know kind of looking at my calendar. Oh darn you know having engagement. But in fact i was so i said let's go for it so we had people Twenty folks from that part of the country from south west ohio for friday night all day saturday and sunday afternoon thirteen hours and it was a remarkable experience.

Philips Hue smart bulbs to lose Works with Nest integration

"Quick update on philips hue they are ending their works with nest integration. This is not a surprise. Works with nest was going away for a long time. Now it is and now philips you does not work with it anymore. You can connect your philips hue devices to google home so it's going to work that will work but things like i know that i had like a direct integration between my air conditioning in my old house and my philips hue lights that if no one was home for a long period of time it would like randomly do the lights on and off and if you had like the nest protect smoke detector there was a pre-built integration that. Turn them red. If the smoke detector went off in the middle of the night so you could see through the smoke.

Let's Talk About Toilets

"So world toilet day is coming up and the response to hearing that there is a serious. Un sponsor day for toilets might make people laugh or feel a little iffy on discussing it. So why would we need a day like that. Well what would you do if you didn't have a toilet a fair point. This is brooke yamaguchi. She's a water sanitation and hygiene specialist at the united nations children's fund also known as yuna south based in new york. She knows a lot about toilets. I mean the ability to manage our bodily functions and these things that we frequently don't talk about but are so core toss bodily functions of urination defecation for half the population menstruation. Really at the core of our dignity. it's also a foundation for health without a toilet that contains waste and then separates it from people coming in contact with that waste. We would all be exposed to harmful pathogens that cause many different illnesses and diseases and it doesn't stop at the toilet either so without waste being safely transported away from our toilets and from our homes and treated somewhere we would all be surrounded by wastewater and our neighborhoods and in the environment so in terms of the numbers. Can you give me a wide angle view of toilet access as global issue. Will there are three main things that we measure the global level. This is tom sleigh maker. he also focuses on global monitoring of drinking water sanitation and hygiene at unicef headquarters in new york. He sees the big picture of how this plays out around the world. He spoke to us on a rainy day from london to one. Is the population here. Practice open defecation. So that man's added kind of told us a tool a may just is that bush's fails beaches little. Walter crosses the other thing that we measure is the population with basic sanitation service. So means that they have. Some kind of hygienic toilets but is not being shad with other people. It's not shadow the household and then the next level of service up is what we call safely managed sanitation. I'm not means that you not only have a hygiene twins but you also have a mechanism in place to ensure shaming west. That's produced is then being treated on despised safely before being discharged pakistan arm and how many people fall into each of these categories so the global level resell have six hundred. Seventy three million people practicing cash there about two billion people still lack even basic level of service wanting people worldwide and if you look at the population without sanitation that's more like four point. Two billion people that is more than half the people on earth and runs the risk of getting sick every day. Do we have an idea of how many people die as a result of this problem. Whol have estimated globally around one point. Two million deaths could have been prevented through access to cat drinking water sanitation hygiene. The problem is particularly acute for young. Children are very vulnerable. And so i think we estimate there around three hundred thousand children under five who die each year as a result of not having bicyc- water sanitation and hygiene. So when you look at a map where do you see this happening. While some regions and countries have much further to go. If you look out you'll say that particularly sub saharan africa asia and will say ice yanni of civic have much lower levels of coverage of sanitation. And this is polly today with greenwich stages of developments in my slate core countries. But even if you move up the ladder you start to look at issues of treatments and disposal of waste even in europe and north america and australia and new zealand. We're still only at about three quarters of the population that has high says site. All countries have further to go in order to improve sanitation but obviously by roles starting at different positions.

"This is the food scientists podcast. I'm your host. Amy j jack i am here with danny sussman. Low amy's jack hello. Brian pearce and greetings to the rest of the world. I know you're all here listening brian. Pearce here to a low to everyone. That danny missed yes. We will have some news in experiences. Then we have some more Chips that really meet chips. Chips new pringles new limited edition print goals. Yeah and something. New with reese's peanut butter stuff and popping candy kool-aid popping candy. And i'm just gonna jump in real quick. It's not new but we are doing out of two very similar reasons products. We're gonna play our who's the evil twin. Yeah yeah it's one of the one of them is hard to find a nameless. We can't figure what it's called but we'll get to that well okay new to me. You know what amy. Every time i find out you learn something i'm like. Wow we're really educated. This podcast is really about brian. And danny educate amy wall the world than world. Interact with us like through talking with that. We should go onto some news. We used to have news okay. So i'm just. I'll i'm gonna lead up to you danny here but we are at the very beginning of november and you might think okay definitely more in the heart of holiday season. Let's talk about some of those holiday things but we're already getting into easter candy. News for twenty twenty one. But i just i just saw in the grocery store fanatics group one of the grocery store employees at pictures of all of their christmas candy. Just hit the shelves today. Which i guess. So in the new cycle he would make sense that now the eastern news coming. But that's like really far like five months old. Maybe deserved have been valentine's candy news. We had something. It wasn't that great. I guess 'cause i was. There is valentine's candy new. Sometimes but yeah. It's not the same as christmas or halloween or easter. I know you want to talk about one of the new eminem coming out. The mayor did spoil everything else. Gopher okay yeah well The her is going to be a well. You know easter bunny candy. Normal thing sour patch is coming out with a white chocolate bunny filled with sour patch. Kids new. I don't i mean i feel like that's the easter bunny defending itself because everybody sees the little chocolate bunny and smashes its face and just like destroys it at least nice smashes space but if you knew that there were sour patch kids inside. Maybe it'd be like you know what i'm just gonna leave this little allow. You're good body you all and your white chocolate. I wouldn't want to eat you anyway so issue. I was picturing the star patch. Kids in meshed in the light chocolate. Not a hallo bunny filled with them and that sounded worse. Either way that. I call that like yeah. That's the of bunny that sees salad. Bunny not too thick. Yeah yeah Our patch kids. Yeah i mean. I do this arab redskins alone but i'd rather not have it in white chocolate. Yeah or any job that matter There is a to eminem stand. He's gonna talk about one of them but there's going to be a new mystery mix eggs. I saw that. Yeah it's gonna be one package amends filled with peanut butter Regular milk chocolate and double chocolate. And i don't know what double chocolate means. Maybe it's like the fudge brownie a software chocolate irregular chocolate. It could be. Yeah we'll see but right now. I don't really have information on that. But that's gonna be walking coming up. Easter twenty twenty one. I was very surprised. One of them wasn't peanut butter. But i think that's because that's the mixes right now. That isn't this mix said oriented basic peanut peanut butter milk chocolate and double chocolate. Now here's the thing about the right there. all right. they have no color picture correctly The picture has pastel colors. But it's early so that might not be right but it doesn't even matter what color they are because they're all the same size you don't know what they are. It's not really like even the regular mix if they're coming out with is essentially a mystery if they're all the same size you have no idea. Anyway what a peanut butter eminem is at the same size as regular no so. Maybe we'll see the program and have a new flavor coming out too. That's my one little nugget of news that brian saved for me that i can have. My pittance of news is that the one is that. There's also a springtime. Eminem coming out. That i think brian gave us because he doesn't wanna talk about it. Not really want to no. You don't even want to acknowledge that it's going to exist. I was happy to let you. Because i get joy out of making you make sour face which i'm sure you will at the idea of key lime pie. Eminem obviously but not make sense with regular chocolate so if it slimy

Fraternal Twins Murder Case: Echos of Cain & Able

"David melfi was a troubled young man who took an active role in the killing of his attorney brother and leaving him to die in his own. Blood michael melfi is twin was found in the basement of the family home in a pool of blood. David was charged and convicted first degree murder in march nineteen ninety five and the connection with the slaying of his brother. Michael david melfi found himself in an unusual role. He was both relatives of the victim. And the convicted killer. David malthus attorney neal's aibo told the genesee county jury. The david malfa horrible terrible judgment but he denied his client. David melfi killed his brother. Michael yet there was no evidence that david tried to help his brother. Michael who was stabbed forty five times. The jury heard the claim. The david malki was guilty of no more than being an accessory after the fact to a murder because he was not directly involved in the killing mel fees trial attorney cast doubt on an alleged accomplice in the brutal murder. His name was patrick again. Kenny who accepted a plea bargain and testified against mouthy at the jury trial in flint michigan. Can he plead to a second degree murder charge. He testified under oath that he and david melfi plan to kill michael melfi and other family members if necessary so they could take their family van and fleet of florida or texas kimmy told flint please detectors that michael malki was lured into the basement where he kenny tried to slid michael malfeasance throat but was unable to win. Michael began to fight back kenny. Then call david melfi to the basement to help him during the struggle. Patrick kennedy testified that the brother david melfi provided a knife and how down his twin brother as ken. Kenny stabbed him repeatedly. Forty five times in all it's a useful exercise to look back at the book of genesis chapter four and the new international version of the bible now able kept flocks and cain worked in the soil. And of course at time cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the lord enable also brought an offering fat portions from some of the first born of his. The lord looked with favor unable and is offering but kane but on cain and his offerings in not look with favor so cain was very angry and his face was downcast. Then the lord said to cain. Why are you angry. Why is your face. John kass do what is right. You will not be accepted but if you do do not do. it's right. Sin is crouching at your door. It desires to have you but you must rule over it. Now cain said to his brother abel. Let's go out to the field while they were there in the field kane attacked his brother abel and killed them then the lord said to cain. Where's your brother able. I don't know he replied. And my brother's keeper the lord said what have you done. Listen your brother's blood. Cries out to me from the ground. It is downright spooky that the story of david and michael melfi is nearly identical to the first recorded murder found in the bible like cain. David melfi was jealous of his twin brother who had animosity towards his parents also like kane confronted by his father. Adam about the killing of his brother kane told his dad adam that his brother abel laid on the ground with many wounds kane told his father he was not sure that he inflicted any of wounds especially fatal ones simple terms. Cain denied the obvious and he refused to accept responsibility for the death of his brother abel. This was not just to his father but to god who confronted him and punished him with isolation unfathomable to me donder. Stand that high school. Kids could demonstrate such talapity this new age case of cain and abel still shocks me today

Interview with Angela Torresiani

"Hello everyone. Hello, beautiful. So good to see you. I'm so excited that you're going to join us today and Thursday. Introduced my special guest today Angela her SE, honi. So awesome. So we have a great interview today with Angela where I'm going to read her bio in just a moment. You'll see a c p c p which is certified permanent cosmetic professional after Angela's name because she is also the current president of the Society of permanent cosmetic professionals. She started her career change as a tattoo artist and was thrust into permanent makeup work when she had her lips tattoo to cover up a childhood scar. She's apprenticed as a tattoo artist in Brooklyn New York in June nineteen, ninety seven and was introduced to him you permanent makeup in two thousand and three and decided to retire from body Tattooing in 2012 to focus on permanent cosmetics and she joined the society permanent cosmetic Professionals in 2018. And again, like we said she is currently the president and the name I don't have it here of is it Flawless? Beauty is the name of your song? Yeah close. So I joined the s p c p I think in 2013, but I got on the board in 2018 and our Spas Flawless permanent cosmetics and Spa in Staten Island, New York wage. Ye, so obviously you guys probably can see the New York connection and know that again. I've known Angela for a long time and she has again you can see such a ray of experience with so fantastic is she also is really good at just giving you that information like she's an open book. She's very relatable. So I think you're going to find this interview very helpful, but I'm Angela. Thank you for being here. Welcome. Welcome. Why don't you tell me about that transition from traditional tattoo artists to permanent cosmetic and how that was different for you. And yeah, so I guess the shortest way to do this long story is that I didn't have an intention of being a tattoo artist at all. I was going to school for criminology jobs and I was actually working as a aerobics instructor at a Lucille Roberts and there was this girl in my class who was just like covered in tattoos and we're talking Nineteen Ninety Six when language did not have tattoos and I just thought she was so cool. And I was I wasn't even 18 at the time yet and I became friends with her. She was a tattoo artist and she kind of ushered me into tattooing kind of life in an apprenticeship where I really didn't know what was going on. It was like, you know, hey, can you do this for me? If you do that from you, can you grab this for me before? I knew it I was tattooing and I'm like, oh my God, what am I doing? And so fast. I was working as a tattoo artist because we were military we're moving around and you know, it's hard to find work and army guys always want to add to his right. So there's always work available for that long. And I was at a barbecue and I have this big scar right here on my lip. I got burnt when I was a kid and they kept you know, we're at a barbecue drinking eating putting lipstick on and this girl comes over to me when other Army Wives and she's like, you know, I see that you keep doing that and I said, yeah a scar and she said well, you know, why don't you let me make that permanent for you and I was like, what do you do to my face? And she was like, yeah. Yeah actually but okay, you know, like this was like two thousand three. I have not six years tattooing. I never occurred to me. So I went and had it done and kind of fell in love with the process and I learned to enjoy her and the rest is kind of History. So I didn't there wasn't a transition really it was kind of like I was forced into one and then I just kind of the other one throw it on top of me. That's so funny. And so a lot has changed since that time right and so much has changed in our industry. It's always evolving. What do you see? Is one of the biggest struggles for permanent cosmetic artist growing and starting a business. What do you find is like one of their key struggles. One of the struggles is already kind of almost over. I think that let's say let's go back five years or even ten years where the permanent makeup industry and the tattoo industry was so far apart and nobody wanted to share information and everybody was kind of faith that everything was so different and there were those of us that fought to say like know we're brothers and sisters, you know, we're we're not twins. We're like eyebrows. We're not sisters not twins, you know, and now off with all of these companies coming together and marrying tattooing world with permanent makeup world. I think it's gotten so much easier for artists to kind of come into the business and get good quality products suck at training all that kind of stuff. So I think that the harder things that were there for us have gotten a little easier for new artists, but now of course with its popularity, it's how do you stand out in the crowd like how long Rise yourself above everyone else that's around you and be

New Orleans officials feud over generators for polling places

"New Orleans. There's finger pointing over the lack of electrical power at some polling sites after it was knocked out by Hurricane Zeta. New Orleans Democratic Mayor La Toya Cantrell says it's unclear whether electrical service will be restored to the powerless precincts. In time she's accusing the Republican secretary of state, Kyle are twin of refusing to provide support for general. Hers are too innocent Polling places would receive generators for election Day. But he didn't specify whether providing the generators would be a state or local responsibility, he said in a statement. It's unfortunate politicians like Cantrell are trying to score cheap political points instead of being part of the solution.

"twins" Discussed on Sibling Revelry with Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson

"The League was up for the women and I was going to play for the Arizona heat wave professionally and then also play at Arizona State University and it just all everything went away everything and honestly. I was really down because I lost everything. They're like. My leg was so broken and they didn't know how it would come back and then they kind of messed up on the surgery. Like my screws sticking out of my ankle or it's like is that normal. It's about to go through my skin and they had redo it and it's still never been the same like I've broken it twice wrestling Because I was didn't really specific at the rod out like over a decade ago and I still have it in so I'm bouncing around the ring and I would be like I think a metal bar is about to go through my knee and it just happened actually a match. It was crazy because a why Years ago it was seven years ago in divas came out total divas. Yeah and I kept feeling so much pain in my right leg but I don't want to tell anyone and so because I was finally like getting a wrestling storyline. And you know how all that goes. It's just like you don't want to give up your spot and one day I looked down and I'm like oh my gosh. My Shins Sunken and so I go I had to go get an MRI and the doctor's like your Shin is like pretty much snapped in half again. It was the wrong that was keeping everything in places. Like how have you been walking? I'm like why I've just been. I've been so much pain then. I had to get into a wheelchair. I bet and they still made me travel tv every week so I was like had to go to the airports early and sit and wait for someone to push me to the gate and it was so frustrating but it happened twice like where in matches nothing worse than my broken neck broken bones. You broke your neck. Yeah how'd you take your broken neck? Yes so I had this finisher called the rack attack so I put like a girl my shoulders and like she'd be facing up and then I jumped to my knees and it's like as if they're back breaks in half well. It was literally starting to break my neck over time and like stuff in the ring would be happening. Where like if someone would kind of jump on me a certain way like my legs would give out or I would start to wake of until bree like I can't like Glam my body or I couldn't feel my legs and so I would like tell people like doctors like hey is wrong with me. Run DOWN. Mike. I've been athlete my whole life. This doesn't feel like I'm rundown like my lake. Sometimes go numb. Sometimes I can't walk. Sometimes I fall because my legs go numb all this differ weird stuff was happening well. Ventura did an MRI and my neck. I had no spinal or no. I can't fluid as let's say fusion. No spinal fluid for my see to to my c seven and C. Six seven pretty much. My disc was going through my spinal cord. Oh like I was the doctor's like your sloppier back right. Now he goes. You'd be decapitated or paralyzed waist. Down like he couldn't believe what I kept wrestling with in so I had to get surgery and I found the stock turn Florida. Who was like I really wanted just to bone fusion where another doctor wanted to give me like a fake neck and the doctor is like I think I create this instrument going to fix everything and then give you a bone fusion. But he goes. I have to you know if it doesn't work. You have to get a fake neck. Yeah he ended up creating a miracle. I got a bone fusion and I went back into the wrestling ring seven months later and they got injured nine months later and I'm done but yeah good. Forget it stick stick with the reality shows. This is harder. Reality shows are wrestling with a broken nine. I WANNA wrestle reality. Oh My Gosh. Your body has been through so much so much. My poor body needs me me on the other hand. I know she says because she sleeps a lot by the way to and tell a Kid. I would sleep all the time and I was like Nicole Erik. Try to sleep ten hours like me. Pre Kid and your body will heal itself. Why Nikki you're just up? She's a horrible sleeper but not by choice. I was given this. It's not fair. What do you mean like? You just can't go to sleep at night. I mean or are you just a night owl or like I just my mind. I feel like keeps me up all the time but I could sleep a good solid three hours and I've always been like this and then I'm up and then I will go to sleep and I'm up but it's rare since I had drunk and pass out days in college that I would sleep like eight hours straight. It's so interesting though. The genetics of it all you know you guys are identical. But there are so many differences so different we actually will see other twins and won't be like Whoa even be taken back and be like. Whoa the really like twin like even though we do live next door to each other we do like everything together. But we don't ever look at each other like twins and we never really have like true like we've always looked each other's friends fight like twins will how is it though. I mean you're actually. It's so crazy that it was just a total accident. The girls got pregnant together but it has to be fun now right I mean it has to be it definitely is I mean the thing is is because of the times we had to cancel everything so baby showers sprinkle about for Nicole. Because I had a baby shower with my first but she doesn't get one now. We want to really fun. Maternity shoot together because we are having fun now would there but everything Kinda got canned but we bought at least every day like can we have the same craving yes. Same symptoms on all man. I'm super lucky because I feel like what people are. I kinda call the doctor every second when they feel something like I just go to bre- and I kind of feel like I'm almost chew relax like I haven't read any books or done any classes because I just asked free stuff every day. I'm okay I'm fine but then I look at my fiance. Mike were so not okay. Because he doesn't know anything and then I don't and I feel like we're gonNA come home from the hospital and look at each other. Like what do we do now? Like we're just GONNA call you. Don't even have to call. You can just yell like throw something anytime I need some emily. Can you just go put it on the wall so like our backyard? Wall has replace things to give each.

"Balance. Cabela's fun so gosh and their bellies are so big and there so pregnant together and it does thing. Can you imagine being twins and then having babies a week apart I know and this was not by choice by the way you gotta listen to understand what happened? There was a story behind it but they were super cute and I love that you could completely tell them apart. Their personalities are so different to me. You know sort of the bad the bad girl and the good girl we gotta say everybody's awesome was just realizing we just love people because everybody's different. Everybody has their own thing but imagine if we were like that. These people aren't dad gray like cows but seriously the girls were so fun. I loved their dynamic. We talked about their childhood. How they got into sports soccer How they transitioned into. Wwe And the journey there. How about the injury? The injuries are just on another. It's crazy I just love an athlete. I love when people push their bodies to do the most that they can do and it is always very scary and interesting when people push it so much and they go back You know the idea that like you could have these sort of life altering injuries and then your your purpose and your drive is to actually like get back ring. Yup She didn't have these injuries in got. Well that's the end of it. I mean she was like all right. So when can I get back in the ring? You would have been like well like you bro. Done my contract says I still get paid right anyway. New Memoir out to called a new memoir and honestly a really interesting life and I love seeing women in a predominantly men's world and how they been able to succeed and what some of their obstacles have been but their gratitude is so enormous and they're just they've got a great they do the toughest shitting escape the shit that they had to take on their way up to. You know what I mean. Because it wasn't it wasn't necessarily easy for them to sort of bring these barriers and they actually. They elected into the wwe hall of fame. You were so wonderful and we enjoy this in. I know you guys are going to let this one here are the Bella twins.

"Your Demi Energy I'm your host Demi Brunette and I'm so excited to have you joining my body some things you can expect from this. Podcast ARE SOME JUICY GOSSIP. Some good advice some fun. Exciting gas and a lot of other surprises. Make sure you subscribe to spotify Apple podcasts. Or podcast one. Wherever you listen to your podcast now back to off the vine with Kaitlyn Bristowe. This is a good segue to Confessions because every podcast idea we have my guest has to confess something and I feel like from this conversation. We're going to be in for a real treat here. I know we're thinking about confessions. I know like I didn't bear see moment Confession it's so hard when you're an open book like I guess the Mohawk would have been mine. Came here tonight because he drives home and so a promise but why this is what artem said he just is like. I'm shocked because I'm someone who gets me. Any Patty every two weeks. I do my laser. I am so trimmed up and this quarantine life like. I'm not chancing. I'm not gonNA go just sneak a manny petty into chance it mcnugget laser. Like and I'm pregnant so I'm just like your Shit lack but I do realize I need to do a beauty day with a woman. Okay in this is my opinion but a woman carrying a child in my opinion is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen in life like I think it's so beautiful so he probably sees you in that way too. Yeah that's true even think like. I feel like my husband like when you say you feel like artem stares at your vagina. I really Brian Susan. But he steers at me and like like he just looks at me. Like wow like my beautiful thing like even last night I mean we had oral sex. We had sex like it was great and I have this big belly like we. My belly is huge win. Love it down through the screen. He finds sexy. He does they do. But what's your compassion? I guess my confession is even though like I don't have a confession. I'm okay dying for a drink. I mean I just like one of those days every day. We like literally. I've missed drinking. I like we were meant to be in quarantine pregnant because we'd be drunk every day and be bad. I know that's us. You know yeah I would. I would be killing my wine cabinet right now. That is what Baresi moment. Great about this season. I think everyone's going to be able to relate to So I get into. Nothing's worse than having your first massive fight on reality TV Had what like six to key drinks? No more started aggressively salsa dancing with other men with my tits. Were out spanks lake. That was my way to get back at them. I guess you make up you know when you have like half your makeup skying and the voice like Oh yes like heave and went home because they want to be a reality cameras. I was like you guys are coming with me that I never like this except maybe barge into his house with cameras. Wake his ass up lake. I mean and it's because he signed releases all there. When I had to watch back I was so embarrassed for myself. And I can't believe it's airing in a few weeks and so I don't think I've been this embarrassed yet reality. Tv embarrassed. Maisy and I watched it and I was there but I was intoxicated but I think good we got eat premier and I had to go up and say like to the DJ. And I looked at him and I was like just like I don't know from Bandra pump rules but I'm like she say and he's like looking at my. Yeah I have no idea I could. Even played off of is just so drunk. Yeah I mean if all my Tequila moments were on camera we'd be in trouble I to kill my down but that's like wine into killer. My two will end whiskey. But I- Tequila for me is like I couldn't. I could not be happier vodka or whisky for me. I will roundhouse kick his ass and like if he says such a bitch. Same Euro bitchy vodka makes me look like an angry bird and then when. I'm on Jack Daniels. I've just a Mike. It's crazy emily. Some crazy Ninja Punch Soviet like villain. Though would you rather? Would you rather be sober in quarantine or out in public with everyone in social settings? Ooh I like to be drunk in social settings now you have to choose either or either or sober. Mardi experiencing the sober stuff. I'd rather talk. She'll settings so really settings I would rather be sober. I miss having human connection. This is yeah that's true. Yeah I mean yeah. I am so confined on now. You want to be out in the public drunk. Not at home drunk. She said sober. Not Trunk Oh maybe confused. My I'm drunk right now. I don't know I don't know I use my own question. That's like you said when you're an open book it's hard to come up with confessions and that's how. I feel each podcast. Because I'm like I don't know what like I peed in the bath the other night. That's pretty gross. You plead in the band. Yeah that's it's really not ok that I did that. I mean pain in the shower. I'm all for but soaking in it. I know I had a shower after so. I don't feel as disgusting but I was having one of those nights where I'm just. I like to have whiskey baths where I just have like a whiskey on ice and have a bath in like and I just had a couple of those and then I was like I don't really feel like getting out of the bath to P and I'm planning on having a shower after so I just peed in the bath and I agree. That's really discussing. Some of the other night is taking a shower with my daughter and I just started peeing in the Sheriff Mike the Drain. And then she goes like this that she liked leaned like a boy and then she started being like marketing. We're not wasted toilet paper because we all know that silver lining the fish amazing. Okay Jason You have to name these it because you aren't vulnerable enough to share and there's prepared I'm not an on the spot guy but the other day I did a facetime with my college buddies. Nothing crazy we ended up playing like every drinking game like Bagley. Nineteen years old like literally a deck of cards. Then we're like red or black and the loser had to just pound their drinks so I came down after three hours completely shit faced trying so hard to hide it so I don't know I was just like so. I had a flat brim on down my nose so she couldn't see my eyes. That just shows me he. Apparently the brilliant idea to put on Richie rich in mid Richie rich like owns like I'm looking forward to watching this. Let's play a game. I completely passed out and when I fell asleep. Caitlyn took a video of it. And it's the most. It's the most like bar way. A human capacity sleep in the world and I would want no one to see it especially you guys but you know what the hell this. You're GONNA be traumatized. Oh my gosh and you're sleeping sort of paint the picture. My my brim has down my nose. My eyes are literally crossed open and I'm snoring it's terrifying but anyway that was my Wednesday night. I'M GONNA have to post that now. So people can. That's good just you. I know I could probably talk to for another hour because this is fun but I just wanted to ask you. You're also working on a memoir. You guys are doing so much right now. You're working on a memoir which is awesome. It's called incompatible is incomparable Orrin comparable. No it's it's both. I told you I was drunk but okay tell me about that. More people can get it. Yeah I was like you I said in comparable and I actually got corrected by our editors like doing comparable. I'm like wrote the book and I don't know how to say it was like either or tomato tomato but it is it's about it's better childhood and what led us to the women we are today. You know we've been on reality. Tv BUT WE'VE BEEN ON REALITY TV. Moore's adults and we kind of want people to understand like it wasn't easy for US growing up and even getting into the wwe and so we just kinda wanted to write a book that like young kids and especially young women. No like there's going to be a lot of ups and downs especially downs and how to get through it stay positive and like just get up and keep going so it comes out may fit you can pre-order it now but there's a lot of stories that are going to be coming out that we haven't told anyone. Yeah so especially. My poor mother makes for a good run every time I tell her that she's like I'm ready. Made the Mike will you should. That's odds of you guys have done so much. And like my introit and say it but in my interim just talking about how you guys are. Just absolute empowering women who so many people look up to and it's it's just you're my kind of people like when I talk to you like this or when I see you guys on TV. I'm like yeah. Those are my kind of women and I just. I really enjoyed talking to you both. And I'm excited for your new season and the memoir and everything coming up for you Did you have anything more all? We're wrapping it up the only thing. I'm curious about like what? What is the one thing you could attribute how you guys kind of broke through and created what you did in the wwe become hall of fame or as you have the memoir you have a TV show? It all happened quickly right in the last ten years. It's ten fifteen years you guys. It's been a disease if attributed to one thing that someone could take away from this what would it be? My mom always told US growing up very young age and she says it have re day tests is live with no regrets and that always like really just like held a special place in my heart so everything we do. I do it with no regrets because I don't ever want to live a life where it was like if I just did that or if I just went and tried or if I don't WanNa do I don't want to be by vineyard. Had My wind thinking about the IFS. I WANNA be by vineyard wine thing about all the memories so I just I live with no regrets and for me. It's whatever you do. Authentic and Oh shoot who's going to add to that and now I forgot but it's be authentic and passionate and don't have you're sick. Don't define.

"After that point. June and Jennifer basically spiraled out of control the balance in their relationship of ended. They started roaming the neighborhood and breaking into abandoned places stealing things even writing graffiti on walls. Weirdly the twins frequently reported these break. Ins to the police they call the station from a payphone and tried to disguise their voices by putting on an American accent. The police likely knew they were talking to the gibbons twin since there giggling could always be heard in the background but they weren't really doing enough damage to press charges or warrant a police investigation so they basically just got ignored but the girls feeling like they were regular. Bonnie and Clyde's escalated their crimes the broke into the local tennis courts by smashing a window. They climbed inside encased the place once they realized there was nothing really worth taking from the tennis club. These sprayed ethanol all over. The place lit a match and set the courts ablaze the next night. They did it again only this time. They burn down private establishment attractor store unlike their other crimes or wasn't something. The police could simply ignore the done serious damage now close to one hundred thousand pounds worth a few weeks after the tractor store fire. Police caught the girls red handed during another break in the constable had placed a few plain clothes officers in the area on a hunch they heard a windows shatter and followed the noise when they arrived they saw Junin Jennifer each holding a lit match in one hand a bottle of ethanol in the other even worse when they searched the girl's bedroom the found all the things they'd stolen during their beneath. Police read their most recent diary entries that describe the beautiful flames that they saw the tractor shop. Suddenly the silent twins looked like dangerous. Delinquents be were remanded to Pucklechurch prison without the possibility of bail. The judge was convinced that if the twins were released they'd go right back to their life of crime. June and Jennifer Gibbons were labeled as felons and unless they could finally speak up themselves. They'd remain in a cell for the rest of their lives up next June and Jennifer fight for their freedom now back to the story if their time in school had shown anything it was that public institutions just didn't understand June and Jennifer Gibbons and Pucklechurch. Women's prison was no different for all the progress they've made. During their summer of hedonism the twins reverted right back to complete silence for the first few weeks there when they were taken to their shared cell. They stood for hours frozen in one spot clutching the sheets of their beds. Eventually two guards came in and made the beds then forced each mobilized twin into a caught posing them like dolls the even had to push their heads back onto the pillow and closed. The girl's eyelids. Life at Pucklechurch was chaotic and exhausting for June Jennifer. The girls completely regressed unflinching silence. No contact and slow synchronized movements. The also entered into a new path with much higher stakes a starvation packed. They would alternate every day which one of them could eat and which one would fast soon. They were both so then. They were sent to the hospital ward. When the staff realized that their starvation was linked they decided to separate the girls they thought that if June and Jennifer were apart they would be able to break their destructive cycle. But this only made things worse without knowing which one of them was eating in which was starving. They both refuse to eat the staff also remarked. That even went. On opposite sides of Pucklechurch the girls would be in sync. If one of them was reading a book so was the other if June was sleeping so was Jennifer. They even appeared to Mir each other's posture. I mean that's how deeply they were connected to each other. And that's how much. They practiced being the same when they were together. They fought viciously in their eight by ten cell. June Jennifer Claude and screamed at each other in their diaries. Each blamed the other for their present situation. The dangerous tightrope of their pact had finally caught up to them and once again they long to be rid of the other. June wrote a deadly day is getting closer each minute coming to a point of imminent death like hands creeping out against the night sky. I say to myself how can I get rid of my own shadow without my shadow? Would I die without my shadow? Would I gain life? Perhaps the only thing that saved their lives was the bleak reality of their dire situation. After seven months June Jennifer finally stood trial for their arson. It didn't go well for them. They've been arrested holding matches and accelerate. There's really no doubt of their guilt. In May of nineteen eighty two. They were convicted of sixteen joint counts of burglary theft and arson nineteen-year-old June and Jennifer were evaluated by estate psychologist in the lead up to the trial for the usual refused to speak to him. He diagnosed them with psychopathic personality disorder. Because of this he recommended that they be detained. In Broadmoor a high security psychiatric hospital for the criminally insane and he recommended they be sent there indefinitely for their entire lives. No one had known what to do with June and Jennifer Gibbons? The twins hadn't really even known how to help themselves but now that they were convicted criminals. The State had to produce an answer and it was to lock the girls up and just throw away the key within a few weeks at Broadmoor June attempted suicide Jennifer attacked nurse. They were both administered. Heavy amounts of anti psychotics. The starvation packed returned. They both basically just shut down retreating into themselves. No speaking no contact no movements journalists Hilton. Als wrote when they were together. They wanted to kill each other when they were apart. They were so lonely they wanted to die then when they were reunited. They were disappointed and imagined that they felt stronger alone. And this whole time no one came any closer to figuring out what had made them silent in the first place but then Marjorie Wallace got involved. Wallace was a journalist for the London Sunday Times. She was a friend of a friend of one of the teachers from eastgate. That Guy Tim Thomas. Having worked with the girls for years Thomas knew that they weren't insane and that they didn't belong in a place like broadmoor so he tried to generate interest in their story. Wallace visited Aubrey and glory gibbons and they gave her access to the twins. Diaries she was unsure what to expect. At first I mean a lot of other people that she talked to had given her plenty of low expectations about the twins intellect but in those pages she found poetry reflecting deep. Intricate lives that June Jennifer lead from the safety of their small bedroom. The imagery was so potent the language so powerful after reading those pages. She was just as convinced as Thomas. June and Jennifer didn't belong in Broadmoor but in order for Wallace to convince the hospital and the courts to release the twins. She had to attempt to explain their silence if there wasn't anything wrong with them. Why did they act like this? Why did they commit crimes? Wallace proposed that the twins criminal behavior was a misunderstood cry for help. They knew that something was wrong with them with their silent packed with their lives as a whole but they had no idea how to escape it to the twins. They saw the police and the justice system as a force for good people who could help them. Wallace thinks that subconsciously. They started their crime spree with the express intention of being arrested because they were that desperate for an intervention remember. They called the police to report their own crimes. More than once as for their silence itself Wallace thinks that it was one symptom of a much larger issue. The twins suffered from an extreme case of identity blending and to understand that you have to understand a little bit of some twins psychology. It's really important for parents to encourage individualization in twinsets. In fact it's something that parents need to actively work at because it's so easy to treat twins as one person instead of two. I mean just think about the way we refer to them the Olsen twins. The Bush twins many twins have names even rhyme or similar. They're dressed in matching clothes. People constantly. Tell them that they have trouble telling them apart. And this leads to blended identities we know that Gloria pretty much exclusively called the girls the twenties. She dressed them like braided their hair the same way and commented that the girls did everything together since birth. She even breastfed them simultaneously. And I mean she was running a household with five kids if she could handle to at one that was just knocking out one chore with Two Stones. She didn't see any harm in it. Would it seems like at some point. June Jennifer started to merge into one person who they called J. It probably started as a game at first. Maybe a challenge to one another. Let's see how long we can go before? No one can tell us apart before we can't even tell ourselves apart but it evolved into a warped battle of wills like holding their hands over a candle flame and seeing who would flinch. I neither June nor Jennifer wanted to be the one to break I. Neither one wanted to lose the game and eventually the game dictated every moment of their life while also felt that. Jennifer was the enforcer of the silent packed. Remember those same adults who sense Jennifer's.

"Was she was dead but she really did die. I told her that plenty of times before but she never died. The twins went home with de la that night and back to school the morning as they resumed their daily lives in this new normal. Police were watching their every move building. A case against them among the building evidence was a note recovered from the crime scene written from jazz to her boyfriend. I love you Robert. I'm just sad and happy. Depressed UNMOTIVATED hopeless. It said that's why I don't talk very much but it's not you. I just hate living here being with her. A STAB WOUND TO MICKEY SPINAL CORD. Nearly severing. It caused her death. The medical examiner called it a crime of passion likely performed by someone Nikki new. Dna testing ruled Robert out as a suspect but the bite marks on the twin skin from their mother implicated their involvement similar marks on Nikki's body were linked with jazz in. May Two thousand ten jazz and TASR were arrested and charged with their mothers homicide in audio recording from the day of the arrest captured this conversation between the Girls Jazz. They're talking about the damn bite. Marks has yeah. They're saying that. I Have Mama's teeth on my arm. I'm not going down for something. I did not do jazz me either. Has the day that you find a murder weapon with my fingerprints on it or something? Please do that. Please find a murder weapon and then it will be different for real jazz. What are we waiting for TASR? They're having having coffee and donuts and having a jolly old time. They don't care the twins. Previously sweet and concerned tone had shifted toward anger. It changed again. Once they were in custody suited in orange jumpsuits and handcuffs. They broke down on camera. Giving detailed confessions it started with a fight with Nikki in the kitchen. They said after they had woken up late for school. They were called her. Saying you're late for school. You're not going to do what you want to do. You have to live by my rules. Then she started waving a pot around in the air as she was going to hit them and a fight ensued. It wasn't like it was a fight on the street. Jazz said it was more like a fight until somebody dies. Tasr said that when she took the pot from her mom mickey grabbed a knife kind of turned and said get back but she didn't keep the knife in her hand. Still Jazz Felt Nikki. Was winning the battle with a knife so she picked up a red vase and broke it over her head. She bit me in the chest. Jazz added when she bit me she latched onto me. I'm trying to get her off of me because it hurts. I'm trying to puncture. I guess that I think Tasr stabbed her at some point. Jazz said she choked her mother with a medallion. She had one as a child. Her mother responded with a backhand stunning jazz. I think I picked up the knife and I stabbed her. They weren't like cuts. They were deep after the frenzy of screaming biting and stabbing they dragged their mother into the vast tab at that point she remained alive and talking according to Jazz. She said she hated them and that they would be going to jail. Jazz told her how sorry. She was soon after Nicky died. The sisters sat there crying in disbelief of what they had done then. They tried to clean up left school and began planning the lies. They would share with the police when they returned later. They expected to find police officers in the home and their mother gone instead. They walked back into the untouched horror. I just really wish it didn't happen like that. Task said I wish I could have saw something else to do. I wish sorry it was just confusion turmoil. It just seemed like it never stopped. I'm sorry I miss her SFJAZZ. I didn't hate her and Tasr didn't hate her. Either I guess it was heat of the moment and built up anger between all three of us. The twin said they wished they had found the police during the fight. Before it was too late they regretted not telling the truth from the start and they wish they still had a mother. In January two thousand fourteen TASR and jazz whitehead pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter. Possession of a knife during a crime and making false statements to police. They were each sentenced to thirty years and separate prisons. Della continues to care for the now young women she routinely visits them corresponds and provides them with essentials and money after earning their. Ged'S TASR started taking computer courses and jazz began studying in the medical field. Their crimes committed at a time when their brains are still developing have largely been considered complicated tragedies resulting from intergenerational trauma and perhaps systematic failures. My heart bleeds for their mom and for them Dell told the citizen in two thousand fourteen. I can't bring Nikki back. "When he first met the nineteen year olds at Pucklechurch remand centre in Nineteen Eighty two psychologists. Dr William Spry was certain there was a psychological logical issue driving Jennifer in June to commit petty crime and arson when he arrived and sat down in the visiting room he was met Eh to unmoving statues neither June nor Jennifer would meet his gaze. The twins refused to answer his questions and wouldn't wouldn't even react at all as he attempted to interview them. SPRY left huckle church. Having learned almost nothing about the twins but that didn't stop him from diagnosing them as psychopaths for years. After June Jennifer Doctor Marjorie Wallace believed that this plus the moment that set the gibbons twins on the path to tragedy in their years at various special education centers and Institutions Jennifer Jennifer and June's doctors often had to come up with creative ways to communicate. The twins were paralyzed with anxiety when talking face to face but but could speak in other ways they call the staff on the phone. They communicated with their parents through notes in Pucklechurch they they were able to meet with their lawyers by calling them from the next room. June Jennifer still had communication problems but they could be overcome but Dr Spry didn't even try more than one other method of communication before diagnosing them many of the other mental health professionals in givens lives were outraged his cavalier conclusion. Tim Thomas Their counselor from eastgate said they were putting a label on on these children. That's what I thought they were as psychopaths. How the hell can you decide that? Somebody has a mental health. Problem is serious as that if you you don't communicate with them expediency. Had they been white and middle class. The outcome would have been different Marjorie. Wallace agreed saying that. The twins didn't exhibit behavior consistent with what she called psychopathy today. This term often refers to people with antisocial personality disorder but the twins didn't have common symptoms of as PD like disregarding partying or violating the rights of others lack of empathy and taking risks June and Jennifer committed a few petty crimes but Marjorie believe believe. That was more in line with normal juvenile delinquency than as PD. The twins were usually only violent towards one another with th just one instance of Jennifer attacking a nurse. They also lacked the charm and affinity for reckless behavior that many with ASP have yeah of. In fact June Jennifer were obsessed with being careful deliberate and unnoticed exemplified by their slow slow moving attempts to move in sync and disengaged from others. June and Jennifer probably didn't suffer from A. S. P. D.. But that's it's not to say that twins were free from mental illness instead. June and Jennifer Gibbons may have suffered from a condition called fully ado you or shared delusions with this disorder. The twins were two entangled in each other's personalities to discern reality from from their fantasy lives unable to disengage their destructive disturbed behavior inevitably turned deadly Next we'll dig deeper into the entangled. Psyches of the silent twins now back to the story in rural Haverford Haverford West Wales in the nineteen seventies and eighties twins June and Jennifer. Gibbons were notorious for their odd lifestyle they were thought to be willful criminals. Evil children and psychotic individuals and this was underscored by Jennifer's untimely death. Some some thought that Jennifer was manipulating June or that both twins were suffering from antisocial personality disorder. Those theories however I didn't quite fall in line with the twins actions while Junin Jennifer likely weren't psychotic or suffering from. As PD. They were undoubtedly living with mental illness. One theory of why the two twins kept up. Their silence is that they were dealing with a fully. I do fully ado is a rare syndrome called shared psychotic disorder in which an otherwise mentally healthy healthy person experiences. The symptoms of a close associates mental illness according to the researchers who published the steady phony Ado and delusional disorder by proxy. In a family. There is usually an inducer and a receiver. The inducer is the original patient and they share their delusions with the receiver. There have been cases of couples friends and even whole families participating in the same. I'm warped reality. June and Jennifer were prime candidates for this syndrome for Lia do usually affects people in devoted relationships relationships who live in close proximity fifty percent of diagnosed patients are mother daughter or sister sister pairs judging by by their history. It's theorized Jennifer was the inducer in May June share her delusion. She was the one who instigated the the so-called twin game that played the gibbons twins their entire lives driven by Jennifer. Both twins became anxious paranoid and suspicious of everyone else. They were desperate not to be noticed which drove them to walk incredibly slowly and not react when other people tried tried to engage them though the attempted to interact with voice they liked or other people in the outside world as teenagers June and Jennifer for couldn't break the cycle they'd created as children by the time they arrived at Broadmoor their isolation began to cause breaks in reality June told a reporter from the New Yorker that broadmoor caused Jennifer's mental state to deteriorate. She said she became really schizophrenic. They can they're she'd here guns going off outside her window she kept saying quotations from the Bible to me. She accused me of destroying her life of plotting against her living for so long. In the institution may have adversely affected the twins mental health over the years worsening joining the folio do or perhaps Jennifer and jeans behavior wasn't the result of internal factors but external ones ends. One clue lies in their shared twin language. Another similar case may shed light on the factors that led to the sisters communication education problems and Competitive Games in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight when June and Jennifer were first undergoing speech therapy at eastgate. The the story of eight-year-old Grace and Virginia Kennedy of San Diego made national headlines. The two twins had apparently created needed their own idiosyncratic language and would only communicate through it though English and German were spoken by their parents and they could understand both they refuse to speak either tongue. The twins called each other hotel and Kabongo after they were enrolled in speech. Therapy repeat. It was discovered that grace. In Virginia's language difficulties were partially due to neglect at home. Their parents had been told. The twins were Developmentally Disabled and subsequently halted all schooling. The sisters never had the chance to learn English in an educational national setting instead of a unique language. Porto and Co bengals dialect was a rapid fire. phonetic mixture of English and German German with some flourishes of their own design in the absence of any language instruction they created their own dialect. Once it was is discovered the twins were not disabled. They were enrolled in school along with therapy and were able to learn English. June and Jennifer's offers twin language was similar with its strange staccato. Version of English in Barbadian Slang along with some slurred sounds but whereas White Americans grace in Virginia received support and professional help at a young age June and Jennifer were essentially left on their own until they were thirteen thirteen by then their habits were already deeply ingrained. Their language allowed Jennifer in June to communicate without being understood further dividing the twins from the outside world as the twins aged. They relied more and more on each other for for companionship. Ironically the closer they became the harder it was for them to integrate into the wider world. They may have simply simply been neglected for too long. Where the silent twins of Haverford West isolated and lonely did they suffer from mental illness or was Jennifer maliciously controlling June for her own purposes? Even now fifty six years after they were born. It's incredibly the hard to tell. We can't fully explain the silent twins behavior but it was probably a combination of factors. The twins were neglected at home with a father who didn't help raise them and a mother who was overwhelmed. They were bullied at school and the teachers and administrators left them to flounder. Racial bias ensured that many caretakers simply ignored or dismissed gibbons twins struggles by the time time they finally began speech therapy and psychotherapy. It was hard to reverse the habits they established and once again they were left without support when they left school at age sixteen. The nail in the coffin was their sentence at broadmoor whereas juveniles who committed similar crimes served about two years in jail June and Jennifer spent eleven years at a maximum security hospital among violent violent offenders. Jennifer would never be free. June still had big plans in the days. Following Jennifer's death she told Marjorie Wallace. The future is clearer. I see myself going.

But it wasn't until they were thirteen that their parents and school officials thought to address their non-communication through therapy but counselling thing was ineffective as the twins were unhealthily wrapped up in each other's psyches part of their struggles stemmed from the fact that they were black in a predominantly white rural Welsh village. The girls delighted in calling the police station and taunting them with details of their small time misdemeanors but the thrill of stealing pulling snacks and magazines didn't last long June and Jennifer were desperate to find a new purpose like their interest in writing in the Davies Boys. This new journey into crime was quickly becoming an obsession and with each break in. They were growing bolder throughout October. June began to write about wanting to create a gasoline bomb quote. Panicking the attempt to flee out of the kitchen window but were caught by Joe Davies. Ted's heads father and his wife Jackie rather than calling the police. The Davies decided to interrogate the girls themselves. June and Jennifer sat on the couch with their eyes downcast refusing to answer questions about who they were and where they came from. It soon became clear. Clear that the girls wouldn't tell the Davies anything. Joe and Jackie took pity on the odds silent twins and order a taxi to take them home. They told the girls to never come back. But when Jennifer and June adopted a new interest it quickly turned into an obsession. The twins return the next day and every day for weeks after even the news that Ted had moved to Philadelphia. Didn't stop stop them. She'd have a lot of work ahead of her she. I asked the girls questions about school. Their family and their hobbies. The girls both sat sullenly across from her eyes downcast. They wouldn't respond physically to anything she said. June might might occasionally give a whispered mono-syllabic answer. Jennifer remained pointedly silent and N.. TRAE harn quickly realized she wouldn't make any progress with the girls like this so she tried a new tactic using a tape recorder. The girls agreed to read aloud and speak to each other while being taped but would only do so after an left the room using this method and was able to crack the secret twin language that even the girls own mother struggled to understand by slowing down the tapes she discovered they're coded dialect was a mixture of Barbadian Slang and plain English. But the girls spoke incredibly rapidly. Stressed unexpected syllables syllables and both had a tendency to use h sound instead of an s sound and also observed that June wanted to answer her questions uh-huh but when an asked a question Jennifer would shoot June a signal with her is Jennifer was controlling June and her message was clear. You must not speak with Jennifer influencing June this way it seemed impossible to make any progress. After after two months of assessment. Dr Anne Trae Horn and Dr John Rees recommended that June and Jennifer be enrolled in a special education in program. They thought removing the girls from public school would give them a better chance to overcome their speech difficulties. So in April nineteen seventy seven June and Jennifer transferred to eastgate center a special education school. Here the girls would finally finally get the personal attention. They had sorely needed from their assigned teacher. Kathy Arthur the girls wouldn't speak or even acknowledged Kathy but during their first few months there they were observed interacting with each other and younger children in an eerie recording from eastgate eastgate. The two girls can be seen eating potatoes. Incredibly slowly each trying to perfectly match the others movements but by nineteen seventy eight eastgate therapists and teachers were at a loss. The girls were now fourteen and after a year of therapy had made no real improvement. Something had to change East Gate child psychologist Tim. Thomas sat the twins down and told told them that they would be separated. One of them would stay at Eastgate and the other would go to Saint David's adolescent unit. Another school for special special needs children. He recalled the girls didn't react at first and then almost imperceptibly their hands clenched into fists. They turn to each other with a hateful gaze Jennifer screamed and lunged June raking her nails down her older sisters cheek the to chase each other around the room screeching with rage. Tim and another teacher pulled the twins apart and they immediately mmediately went limp. The staff at Eastgate had never seen the girls. Behave anything like this. The staff was torn about separating the girls also some thought removing one would let the other succeed others thought the split would irreparably harm. The girls psyches while the girls wouldn't talk to the staff face to face. They did call them of their homes late at night and begged to stay together at eastgate but the separatists tests eventually one and on March Thirteenth nineteen seventy eight fourteen year. Old June was sent off to saint. David's it was disastrous June was practically catatonic. She would sit in her chair during lessons. Her head hanging with a constant stream stream of tears in mucous flowing from her eyes and nose the only signs of life she showed when she was allowed to call Jennifer at lunch picking up the phone. She grew animated speaking rapidly with Jennifer in their twin dialect but when the call ended and she was forced to return turn to class June took the same position not even registering the lessons. She sat through two months later. The separation experiment and was abandoned. Neither girl was making progress and being apart made them despondent. It was obvious that twins should stay together if they were to have have any chance of learning to live normal lives. June was transferred back to eastgate in nineteen seventy eight in nineteen seventy nine June and Jennifer. I began to show an affinity for writing while they wouldn't respond to their teachers vocally. They'd often address Sir questions via notes or daily diary entries in these written accounts. The girls expressed their thoughts about their school and each other June was desperate to prove she had an independent identity from her sister. She denied the assumption that their personalities were intertwined writing. We both know we are individuals. We are not trying to tie one another down either. We do not depend on one. Another Jennifer felt differently. June and Tim. Thomas Recall Jennifer yelling at June over and over saying you are Jennifer. You are Jennifer you armie. June said one day she'd wake up and be me and one day I would wake up and be her and we used just to say to each other. Give me back myself. If you give me back myself I'll give you back yourself. Despite gene's insistence stones. It appeared each twin sense of self was irrevocably tied to the other and and there was nothing. More of the specialists at eastgate could do for them. June and Jennifer left the eastgate center in Nineteen seventy nine at the age of of sixteen. They had dismal marks and their teachers recommended. They shouldn't try to pursue any sort of higher education and with our inability ability or refusal to speak with anyone. Besides each other most jobs would be impossible so June and Jennifer started the next chapter of their lives with no real prospects or support. They retreated into each other once more locking themselves in their bedroom room and leaving only once a week to collect their unemployment checks. They stopped talking to their family entirely even their sister Rosie. The diaries the girls had kept eastgate turned into an obsession. The detailed the mundane events of their lives in the bedroom sometimes was writing multiple drafts to get their thoughts perfectly right before committing them to the pages of the diaries. They meditated on how they longed for a connection with their family downstairs. After years of silence they feared the divide was too wide to cross but instead of making an effort to connect the girls created rich fantasy lives with a revolving cast of dolls. These toy families had storylines is to rival the most outrageous soap operas with characters marrying divorcing. Having children and dying at a dizzying rate. The girls wrote a play starring the dolls and radio news and cooking shows. They might listen to the twins in the bedroom found themselves in a state of arrested development and they resented they're changing teenage bodies inbound their breast to keep their chest flat they both wrote about new sexual feelings and were often a free. These thoughts were abnormal and sinful. They spent every minute with each other eating sleeping writing playing and even violently fighting downstairs. Glory would tell curious guests that the noises coming from above where the twins working. She'd she'd say they're just shy that's why they don't come down in one thousand nine hundred eighty just after the twins seventeenth birthday. They turned a new corner now. The Gibbons House in Haverford West was filled.

"Listener discretion is advised this episode features discussions of drug use sexuality and other adult content. We advise extreme caution for listeners under thirteen Jennifer. Gibbons felt the poorest grid the brick in her hands. She looked at her twin. It was time Jennifer through the brick through the window. She slowly shimmied through the whole careful to avoid the jagged shards of glass still embedded in the frame moments later. She appeared at the front door. Hore of the tractors store to usher her sister. June inside the eighteen year old twins had been planning this caper for weeks and finally finally on October. Twenty Fourth Nineteen eighty-one. The right moment had come. The two girls made their way to the office. Jennifer Jennifer dugout a small can of gasoline from inside her jacket. She carefully poured it over a desk and chair saturating the would in June produced a match and lit some papers on the edge of the desk on fire with a fantastic whoosh. The desk erupted in flames. Lick the ceiling above delighting in their fiery success. The girls ran smiling to the next room splashing gasoline as they went. June lit another match setting the main tractor storeroom alight. When everything was aflame? The girls rushed outside to examine their handiwork work before long. A small crowd gathered with them watching the Haverford West Fire Brigade attempt to stop the blaze. The twins strolled home glorying in their success June wrote of their triumph in her diary saying all the while my lovely glorious glorious fire was licking its way through the roof and the thick smoke filled the night sky. It was a picture which will live in my mind forever. Oh what a sinful evil selfish mind. But what the twins didn't realize was that their presence at the fire hire had been noticed. They were suspected immediately due to their reputation. June Jennifer were well known in town and considered sittard unique. The identical black women stood out in the all white rural Welsh countryside. But more than that. They were undeniably naively bizarre for as long as they lived there. The twins had barely spoken a word to anyone else in the village..

"We bring in the experts NASA, scientists engineers, astronauts, also at you know, the coolest information, but what's going on right here at NASA. So today, we're talking about one of the more famous. Studies conducted here at NASA in recent years. It's called the twin study you were you may remember from March twenty fifteen to March twenty sixteen now former NASA astronaut Scott Kelly spent a year in space with Russian cosmonaut, Mikhail Kornyenko. The one year mission was to investigate just what you think what happens to the human body during and after a year in microgravity at the same time. Another study was being conducted with Scott Kelly. But this one brought in his twin brother Mark Kelly. Also, a former NASA astronaut this investigation called the twin study examined what happened to both Scott Kelly in space and Mark Kelly on earth during the same period of time. It was a dense study packed with ten different investigations, twelve universities. Different corporations and government laboratories all looking at the more subtle changes that may occur within the human body during a long duration spaceflight. So with us to discuss the intricate details, and even some of the recently published findings of the investigation is Dr Andy Feinberg, and Dr Steve Platt's, Dr Feinberg is the principal investigator of one element of the twin study looking at EPA genetics. We'll get into what that means in this episode. He's based at Johns Hopkins University in the school of medicine. Dr Platz is based here at the Johnson Space Center as the deputy chiefs chief scientists of the human research program program that sponsors the whole twin study. So with no further delay. Let's jump right ahead to our talk with Dr Andy Feinberg and Dr Steve Platt's enjoy. Ecotank county. We have. Steve in Andy, thank you so much for coming on to talk about this wins. Twin study there's a there's a lot of interesting stuff here, and it's a very dense topic. So I appreciate you both coming on. All right. So I think this is such a popular thing because it is something that is sort of easy to grasp right? You hear twin study you? Now, there are twins involve one person in space one person on the ground. It's something that is easy for people to to sort of wrap their minds around. And you know, we did this big communications package when it was happening. So so it was just something that people just got. But was interesting is that the amount of research that's going into this is so dense, and so widespread and even just talking with Steve hair. Just just before the podcast even started. He was saying he showed me a picture of the of the opening to the article or to the paper of self, and how many authors are a part of this. This is this is a very dense study undertaking, very huge uh. So so before we get into that before we get into the juicy details, I kind of wanted to pull back and start from the beginning. Because I'm sure there is there is a sort of entrance point to win the twin starting the twin? Instead of even started being a topic of possibility. So so Steve kickoff where did this? Where does this begin shirts kind of funding? Actually, you know, one of our goals is to go to Mars and to get to Mars and get back home. It's going to be roughly three years. And so we knew we had to spend more time on the space station..

"Interesting things being studied by twins databases around the world to kings in london for example another twin study called the twins early development study has followed a group of around ten thousand sets of twins from birth looking at that cognitive and psychological development well some of these kinds of questions are controversial particularly around the impact of jeans on intelligence and what that means education they have shown what the twin study model pin do i asked core christensen why he thought the future lay between spaced research when i started in twin research we were most interested in similarities between twins but more and more as the kinetic part had moved off the focus has been more more on differences between so that means the differences between how twins age what diseases or conditions they get i think that they're the comparison between identical twins little health of enormously in genetic study and understanding how molecular processes functioning because we have the best possible control in the coach win one twin has a condition or exposed to something i think that that is the area looks most promising interesting between studies more twins in the world then there the bean party is a to infertility treatment which is led to more non identical twin births this is good news scientists particularly is more twin registers appear into bella been world like the ones involved meanwhile my sister and i plan to keep helping the scientists as much as we count who knows what more they might find.

"I think that's i was gonna say the other way around so i think the most common question i asked is d you feel each other's sentences and can you read each other's minds and then the most annoying thing oh you identical so we've got different than that one thank you laura and alexis hood for sharing your twin cites with us there a few years ago my sister and i began to realize how important twins off science in particular debates about nature versus nurture and the impact that our genes have on our lives twins databases have been set up around the world and been used to study a whole host of questions about the human condition so civilian and i decided to join twins uk a database of twelve thousand pairs of twins is run by a group of scientists at king's college london being a member is pretty cool we get to go in for whole series of tests every few years it's like a free medical and get the occasional questionnaire sent to us from researchers looking into specific topics to find out more about the history of the database and what they working on at the moment i went along to their offices absent thomas's hospital to talk to clear steve's senior clinical lecturer at king's college london and a consultant jerry attrition i asked her why the database was initially set up the twin study here in kings with setup in about early nineties and the key questions that assad is wanted to answer we're about how osteoarthritis not processed verb because of the time people thought there just weren't just natural aging wasn't really much science behind understanding of those two very very common diseases tim spector director who still director decided to set of twin city to try and look into with those netted component to these communities tim spector who has been on the anthill before talking about the experiments that he's done on himself back in nine went on a big media campaign to recruit sets of twins from around the country most of them were women because.

"Eighty film the shining which features a set of identical twins played by lisa and louise burns what is interesting about the showing that the decision to have twins there was accident until stomach rick was not looking for twins i was when he was doing the auditions that the burns sisters app turned up and he liked the idea because he thought illusionary spooky he would base book to have two of the saying they look very alike and that's one of the things about the concept of the twin holidays this impossible image of something repeated now if anyone knows twins that is not the case ever or at least not as the first thing you need them but you said to me well horror has found interesting taking a deep look at how twins get represented in popular culture and the effect this can have the conversations assistant editor moorhead who's also between if you think about it twins everywhere in literature cinema and the arts more broadly with that entertain you to disconcert you and make you laugh but at twin leanness is never as an incidental twins in culture are almost without exception defined by that twin status never or at least rarely will you see twin carrot to exist as a solo entity who just happens to have a sibling board on the same day sometimes the relationship is portrayed as joyful and fun at other times it's oppressive and home full but it is always there front and center over protagonists identity if you think about the times you've seen twins in a film or tv show or read about twins in a novel you may start to notice certain patents that probably dressed the same probably seen together at all times and probably display supernatural abilities to read each other's minds the representation of twins in western culture has the potential to affect how we view twins in the real world and how we treat them when we encounter them in our own lives so it matters more than you might think.

"Twin brothers and sisters it depends a lot on the personality of the older sibling so a child who is very sociable perhaps a child who likes to teach likes to be the boss might get along very well with a younger brother or sister especially if that younger brother or sister is more malleable is a child who is teachable if you like who doesn't mind taking direction now with twins it's obviously a bit different because the difference in age is a matter of minutes in the case of twins there isn't an older versus a younger sibling who would necessarily be dominant and so personality in temperament perhaps even more important for determining that relationship and perhaps it says much about the match of personalities as it is each individ jewel twins personalities for example twins who share a lot of the same interests and perhaps have similar levels of activity and sociability are would be more compatible than twins who are a bit more mismatched and this applies to identical twins just as much as it does to non identical twins so mona's i it twins are genetically identical but that doesn't mean that their behavior or their personalities are one hundred percent the same there can be other influences which have an impact on how they get on with one another what their personalities are like what their temperaments like it's quite common for for parents especially if identical twins to make a conscious effort for their children to.
