Newt Gingrich: 'A New Kind of Campaigning' Displayed by Ronald Reagan

"Lincoln's farewell address in January 1989, he says very clearly, these great victories weren't mine. These great victories were yours. It was your voice, your calling, your involvement, you the American people. And so we tried to return to model, that big ideas in the Contract with America, that were all 70 % or more in popularity, willingness to fight over the ideas. People forget, you know, this wasn't a picnic. closed We the federal government twice, once for 26 days. We were in a knockdown, some drag out brawl. And I always laugh at the media that says all this really hurt the Republicans. We became the first re -elected majority since 1928, after we closed the government. And the reason was because people thought we were being principled, and people thought that we were serious. We weren't normal politicians. In many ways the strength that Trump brought, in the sense that he wasn't just a regular politician. And I think that my goal is to get Republicans to understand that the consultant class doesn't understand the American people, doesn't respect them, and doesn't study issues, and they make a living out of running junk negative commercials that weaken the whole country. What you need is a much more Reagan -style popular appeal, which can be very tough with your opponent, by the way. Reagan beat the tar out of Jimmy Carter, but it was positive, it wasn't negative. Don't, don't up hang Newt, we want to keep you for another segment here. The book is March to the Majority. it You can get at Amazon .com, order it now, it'll show up tomorrow morning. It's a fantastic book, The Republican Revolution. You can learn a hell of a lot from this, and I might add, 19 years ago today

"More Republican candidates jump into the presidential race. Northwest News Radio's Kim Shepherd talked with ABC's Andy Field about the latest entries. As expected former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is jumping into the race for the Republican nomination for the presidency as is former Vice President Mike Pence but their approaches so far couldn't be more different. ABC's Andy Fields joining us on the Northwest News line and it sounds like Pence didn't mention Donald Trump once in his announcement while Christie hasn't stopped talking about him. Yeah it was pretty much his entire beginning of his speech basically walking into what may have been the lowest key of low -key presidential announcements kind of strode in not not a big cheering band or crowd going wild and polite their applause as he walked into a New Hampshire college lecture room and proceeded to basically give a professor -like speech on the history of good leaders in this country all leading up to the fact that the last guy who was president before Joe Biden was not a particularly good leader. Chris Christie who wholeheartedly supported Donald Trump through four years and two elections has come to the conclusion that Donald Trump is not a guy to be trusted saying he's a liar he's an maniac he treats his people poorly didn't keep any of his campaign promises from building a wall and having Mexico pay for it to wiping out the federal debt coming up with a health care plan or infrastructure he basically called one him of the most failed presidents in the history of failed presidents and then Chris Christie the former New Jersey governor basically said and despite the fact that I supported him for all that I want you to vote for me that was pretty much his campaign speech last night today we have Mike Pence the former vice president who as you mentioned came up with this lavish beautifully produced campaign ad that was reminiscent of the kind of ads we saw from Ronald Reagan in his Hollywood days before he became president twice and just tiny little allusions to former president Trump saying different times call for different leaders and as Abraham Lincoln said we need a leader who appeals to our better better angels not necessarily mentioning Donald Trump but perhaps thinking that that isn't the leader appeals to our better angels today he was more explicit in making a complete break from Donald Trump once again reiterating what he has done while he was on a tour for his books and sales saying that Donald was Trump wrong about January 6 about the election denying that Mike Pence put his loyalty to the Constitution before Donald Trump and basically without saying it said that Donald Trump's not fit to run for office and he is so the Republican National Committee has said that any candidate who wants to appear at the first debate in August will have to supporting the eventual nominee how do you think Christie's gonna try to get around that since he has pledged he would not support Trump no matter what well that's that's interesting that is an interesting question and he brought it up himself last night saying it was Donald Trump who pledged at first to support the nominee then of course did not do that and basically that was the beginning of the campaign in election denial of Donald Trump where every time he lost something it wasn't because he lost it was because the election was rigged you know it's it's kind of a silly pledge at this point I think the RNC wants to make sure that none of these guys run as a third -party candidate Donald Trump is fairly certain that he'll get the nomination again barring the off chance that he may be indicted or even in behind the bars before then and perhaps the first president in history to run for office with indictments either pending or already released against him and it certainly does look like the federal indictments may be coming sooner rather than later and I think a lot of the Republican candidates are hoping that Donald Trump's legal problems so engulf his day that he's going to be forced to pull out race of the and that gives them an open line to the finish line which is why they're getting in early here and raising and the money and saying gee I want to be in a position when Donald Trump trips and falls. "I'm in rural China, turned the TV on in the hotel, no English channels. I see NYMEX crude oil prices. And I remember the guy from Dubai, I remember his eyes getting big. He was like, I want the world to see prices emanating from Dubai. That's what makes a financial center a financial center, is information emanates. Now, we may move eventually to a world of pure decentralization, where none of this matters. I don't think it'll happen purely in my lifetime. So for at least a few more lifetimes, I think, sources matter. So the source of truth for what a price of crude oil is comes out of back then only New York. Now it's New York and Brent. And I said, you should want that. Most of the oil comes from your part of the world. Why shouldn't you own that pricing as well? And he got it, man. And he said, wait till you come to my gold souk. You'll understand. And when I took the NYMEX board guys, who were very skeptical, I took up the gold souk in Dubai. And they looked around. They were like, shit, this is the NYMEX floor. These guys get it. They're traders. They understand. There's like 1 ,000 guys screaming and yelling, setting gold prices at the souk in Dubai. But there were some folks who didn't like this idea. And we were warned. We were warned that there's going to be people who don't like it. And they give you what's called K &R insurance and kidnap and ransom and K &R training. And they tell you, they say, OK, here's what happens. Most kidnappings are economic in nature. And they tell you, here's characteristics that it's an economic kidnapping. And if that's the case, you don't fight. You don't fight because they'll call us, we'll negotiate a fee, and you'll be released. That's how it works. And then they tell you, they give you hints if it's non -economic, if it's political or religious or whatnot. And then it's like the advice, I don't know if you dive, but the advice is like, if you get attacked by a shark, if it's a bull shark, fight like hell. Other sharks tend to nip and then go away, quietly move away, try not to be like a fish. But if it's a bull shark or a bear, fight like hell, because they're going to kill you. Just out of interest, how do you fight a shark? Gills, eyes, and gills. Don't try to punch it. There's a myth that they are sensitive in the nose, that they have massive nerves, but they have fat around it. So punching a shark in the nose, if you try, you'll miss, and your fist will probably go in the mouth and it'll tear your arm off. So if you can hook the gills, they're sensitive there, because you cut their breathing off. So if you get your hands in their gills, and they want to shake off to breathe, and then obviously you can gouge their eyes if you can. I mean, ideally, really it's just about trying to make yourself harder. And then bear, I think you're supposed to cover your neck and go in a ball. It's hard to go into training for that. There's no real shark fighting. Now, remember, I knew how I acted in life or death situations, and I turned into a puddle, right? Just out of interest, did I ever tell you the bear story? You have a bear story? No, I don't have a bear story as such. It was more just kind of funny. So when I was out in Canada, I was on my own traveling around and just going for walks and checking stuff out, and there was signs for warnings of bears. And so my mate was out there, I was like, how serious is this? He said, no, it's serious. Bears find people, and they will attack and they'll kill. I was like, oh shit. He was like, but this is what you need to do.

"We Joe think is the greatest person ever, he comes in clean cut, looks nice, and then we find out, or well we don't find out, that they sealed his records and he was a child molester eight years ago, and now we put him in a daycare center. And I'm bringing my kid there thinking that they've done all their due diligence, which they have, the daycare center has, but now these records are clear. These people are absolutely disgusting. That's my problem, that's my point. Who becomes liable then, right? Who is the daycare? I'm sure the business owner. I'm sure. Does the daycare business take it soon? Of course. Because, I mean, they did everything they could to do what they could potentially. Yeah, but then they're rich business owners, so who cares, right? Sure, why not? Why not wipe out more businesses? Like who cares? We've got plenty of those. These people are just disgusting. Disgusting. I don't even know what else to say. Disgusting. The stuff coming out of New York now is so close to parody that you really have to read twice, right? You look at what New York City, let's just jump gears to Mayor Adams for a second here. This guy is the Wizard of Smart. Now he's, they found God now, they're begging churches to house immigrants. His latest plan, Mike, I had to look this up to see if this was true. The latest plan is he wants to actually talk to individuals about housing people in their houses. Hey, here's the individuals, Eric, here's who you talk to. The Democrats. They're the ones that wanted this. Why don't you talk to the Obamas? They got a nice piece of property. Or the Clintons. Why don't we talk to them first? They've got plenty of rooms. Apparently, Joe Biden's got a house that's worth $50 ,000 a month from his crackhead son. It's gotta be huge. Must be huge. Yeah, must be huge. Why don't we fill them first?

"And when the opportunity to do those interesting things happened, I grabbed it. So when I was, you know, graduated Harvard Business School and, you know, all signed up to go work for a big investment bank and I'd won this weird fellowship. So I had this this interesting organization called the National Italian American Foundation. I'd won their fellowship. I couldn't afford to go to business school. So they paid for like 90 percent of it. I won their I won their fellowship that year. And so I was graduated. I was going to thank them at their annual event. And the chairman of the New York Mercantile Exchange, which is not a place most Harvard Business School graduates went, was being honored as man of the year. Very famous, wealthy Italian guy. And after my speech, he approached me and said, well, are you happy? Where are you going? I'm going to go work for X, Y, Z, Bulge, Bracken Investment Bank, you know, two immigrant parents, every every dream. That's like I made it. And he said, are you happy? I'm not really that excited. And he said, well, I work for the New York Mercantile Exchange. We're a bunch of degenerate oil traders in the southern pit of Manhattan that set the benchmark for the world's most valuable commodity. You should come work for me. And that was a chance to optimize for wealth or stories. And I chose stories. And that was sort of the beginning of the end. And then one day he was I was in the office late. And he called me up and said he stuck his head out of his office and said, I just got a phone call from Sheikh Mohammed in Dubai. They want to open up. And again, this is 2002. They want to open up an exchange in Dubai. We're never opening up an exchange in Dubai. That's how we talk. Johnny, we're never doing this. But I got we got to be nice. He's a he's a he's a sheikh. You know, go over there, go over there just because I was the only one in the office still.

"Why four gospels? Why wasn't one enough? They're covering the same territory. I mean, by the time you get to the third gospel, you say, yeah, I know he rose on the third day. I know he ate with his disciples the night before he died. Why do I have to learn about this four times? And the answer is because every time it's the same, and yet every time it's different, and it goes in deeper, and your understanding is better, and it's over and over and over. Pharaoh, God warns Pharaoh, you know, sends him two dreams. Joseph gets two dreams about the future. The miracles, so many of the miracles are repeated. Jesus feeds the 4 ,000, Jesus feeds the 5 ,000. You know, I've seen so many skeptical critics that say, well, it's pretty obvious that that's the same thing. That, and the gospels just basically have two contradictory kind of botched versions, you know, accounts of the very same thing. Because Jesus wouldn't, if Jesus fed the 4 ,000, he wouldn't come right back and feed the 5 ,000, which shows that these are people who have never read the Bible. Nothing happens in the Bible once. Everything is happening over and over and over and over again. Why? Michael Wilcock, one of the old British Bible commentators, puts it perfectly like this. Wilcock, first of all, he quotes Psalm 62, 11, which says, once God has spoken, but twice I have heard it. And then he says, God teaches us by this method of repetition through scripture with good reason. The human mind is incurably centrifugal, forever flying off at a tangent. It must be brought back to the great central truths of the gospel, over and over, made, our minds must be made literally to concentrate, to concentrate, to concentrate. Now, here's the point. Jesus Christ on the cross in the moment of his greatest agony, how in the world did he have the presence of mind and soul to shape his response to the most, to searing pain by quoting the Bible?

Debt Ceiling Deal Gives Unlimited Debt Until 2025

"All right, friends, well, today, as I said, we are hopefully wrapping up or at least putting a big momentary pause on the macro story that has dominated markets for the past few months. Yes, a deal has been reached in the debt ceiling standoff with both President Joe Biden and Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy making major concessions in order to move the matter forward. The deal on the table would suspend the debt ceiling entirely until the 1st of January 2025. Presumably this puts off the next dispute over federal borrowing until the middle of that year and uncapping the debt limit in the interim. The core of the argument is a two -year cap on federal spending, although each side is presenting the story slightly differently. The White House claims the spending cap would reduce spending by around $1 trillion over while the GOP argue that spending cuts are twice that level. New York Times analysis puts the spending reduction at around $55 billion next year and another $81 billion the following year. So let's talk about what's actually in the deal. The set of tradeoffs in the deal have caused outrage among numerous groups of ideologically aligned lawmakers and special interest groups on both sides of the aisle to the point where there are few truly happy with the compromise. Now that of course might mean in America's polarized politics that it's actually a good compromise deal. IRS funding has been cut, with $20 billion of the $80 billion in additional funding to bolster the tax department now being repurposed to fund discretionary government programs. And what's worth noting here is that early in the negotiations, this IRS funding was a red line for the president. You will no doubt remember when he said that he would not accept any deal that benefited quote wealthy tax cheats and crypto traders. Another aspect of the deal was that work requirements for food stamps recipients will be expanded. However, the cohort of people this will affect appears to be small. Only impacting recipients aged 50 to 54 while exempting veterans, the homeless and people who grew up in foster care. However, negligible the effect on the budget, the expansion of work requirements within the benefits program was an important symbolic policy for hardline conservatives. And small as the concession might seem, there are still many on the left who are very, very against

Got lucky that I went in. I didn't put it in himself, so just tried to throw it in there and see what would happen. Prophetic Prediction About Trump's Presidency Shockingly Accurate

"Talking to Steven strang, the book is spirit led living in an upside down world. So I like talking to you Steven about these things because you bring a clarity, there's a lot of fuzz and smoke when we're talking about the prophetic, but so you mentioned that in 2007, Kim Clement said Donald Trump would be elected twice twice. Now, there are a lot of people like me who would say he was elected twice. He was elected in 2020, but the election was stolen. That seems to me dramatically clear on a hundred levels, but he did not serve a second term. So did Kim Clement say that he would serve two terms? Yes. And the way he said it is that God was going to raise someone up who prayed who didn't go in as a praying president, but would become a praying president. And we can only speculate what's going on with Donald Trump. And I just want to give a disclaimer. I've decided it is not my role to defend Donald Trump or anything like that. You know, I'm a journalist. I have interviewed him. I have a lot of respect for him. But part of it is, where is God in all this? Well, that's what I'm trying to say. I just interviewed somebody about Lincoln. He wrote a book called Lincoln's God, and it is clear that Lincoln became a believer in the course of his one term. There's no doubt about it that when he went in, you would have had to categorize him as a skeptic or whatever it was. But something within his term. And the person who wrote this is a Democrat, I don't know, agnostic. I don't know where he's coming from, but this is not some Christian christianization of the story of Lincoln.

Stephen Strang on the Prophecy of Trump's Unexpected Victory

"Idea that God speaks today, there's no doubt that he does. The only question is how and to whom and how do we perceive that correctly without going off the deep end and worshiping profits and being, you know, but you rightly acknowledged that people had prophesied that Donald Trump would be elected, this is before 2016. And I do want to talk about that a little bit because a lot of people forget there are a lot of people listening to this program who just don't know anything about this. This is crazy. This is real. And we need at least be honest. Even if you don't know what to make of it, let's at least be honest about the fact. So talk a little bit about that because it's at least fascinating. Well, I documented it very carefully. I knew I'd be attacked, and I'm a journalist, and I believe that accuracy is important. And you know, as interesting, I got almost no attacks, either from the people in the church that you referred to that don't believe in this stuff or for the other side. The prophecies were that this person this outsider, this chaos candidate is somebody called him, would be elected twice. And when that did not happen, the critics came out of the woodwork. Now, when you say when that did not happen, you're talking about 2020. I'm talking about 2020. So actually, I'm glad you brought that up because I have been myself very confused about who said what and exactly what they said. Let's go way back to 2007, Kim Clement said that Donald Trump would be elected twice. Clement. Right. Okay, now there are two famous videos or both on YouTube. They both been watched well over a million times. And some of it is kind of encode. And he said that God was going to raise up Trump like a trumpet. He also said that he was going that Bill Gates was going to be a gate. I mean, you know, the Bible says we see through a glass darkly.

Judge homers twice, Yankees overcome 6-run deficit, beat Rays 9-8

"The Yankee spotted the raise a 6 zero lead before Aaron judge belted a pair of two run homers to lead the bombers past Tampa Bay 9 to 8. We got a lot of grinders in this in this Clubhouse, man. These are some of the funnest games we've played all year. Judge hadn't homered since April 19th before he and Kyle higashioka each had two run blasts in the 5th, getting the Yankees on the board. Judge added a 439 foot blast the next inning to give New York its first lead. The comeback started after yandy Diaz hit a Grand Slam in the 5th. I'm Dave ferry.

Rizzo homers twice on his bobblehead night, Yankees beat Rays 6-5

"The Yankees handed the race just a tenth loss of the season coming from behind for a 6 5 victory. Anthony Rizzo's second home run of the game, a two run shot in the bottom of the 8th off Jason Adam, gave New York the win. Tampa Bay had grabbed the 5 four lead in the top of the 8th when Josh slow hit a three run Homer. Anthony volpe also homered and drove in two runs for the yanks. They're really good team, but we can stack up with anyone. And as long as we play that type of way and keep proving it, nobody besides ourselves, I feel like we're going to be able to put together these types of games. How is it that I with no science background? Was right about lockdowns and masks and vaccinations. And the vast majority of doctors were wrong. I mean, really, really, really wrong, dangerously wrong, frighteningly wrong. How is that? That's another interesting question like how does a good society produce bad people? "And welcome back. Ralph is up next in Louisiana. Hello Ralph. Hey Paul, how's it going? We're doing great. Two questions. I got two questions in one for you. What do you think about niche state hiring will weigh Monday and then turning around Tuesday and suspending him for the first 5 games of next basketball season? I think it's just speaks to how absurd the whole thing is. Okay. It was, it was different. This has been for those 5 years. Some people, the will wade cases has not even been adjudicated yet. And mcneese got a lot of publicity and they know the territory. They know he understands the territory, which I get all that. But I mean, I don't really think Ralph, we should be surprised anymore about what universities do when it comes to hiring coaches with dubious reputations and poor conduct. There's one every day. So we'll wade just fits, fits in perfectly. AC is up next in Canada. Hello, AC. Good afternoon, mister fine bob. Thank you so much for taking my call. Thank you. Mister fine, bob. Your regular callers, they take it's like they take this for granted. They call them fiction. They think this is easy. I feel the blessing. Take my call. One of your tick takes my call. I take, it's a blessing for me. I never take anything for granted and Jim from Tuscaloosa to call you a devil that's discreet. This is the thing that she's fine, bob. Jim is going to come back to your station within two weeks. I just want to play my game safely to it. So while we're always come back to his owner, mister fine, bob, that chihuahua is going to come back. And if you think about it, how about that colors bracket? I'm sure in particular, this is an animal and I like cats, but if you wish to take off Jim from tuck the muscle from that bracket conquer, if you want to see, that's all I got that's all I have for you. I love you, as always, unlike different tough callista, you're just an idiot. Holly. Dennis is up next in Kentucky, a good afternoon, Dennis. Well, Paul, I'm just proud to be part of the chum before the feeders come out in the last hour. Well, thank you. Hey, you know, a few weeks ago when legend called up, he said Alabama is a duke in turkey and you all laughed about it. That was the last along with you, but you know what? He had a point. You couldn't argue with it in the way Kentucky was playing and then Kentucky started winning some games and then will we know what they've done now so legend. I'm gonna be pulling for Alabama with you buddy for the championship. I hope they get it because I've got a feeling when they have the SEC tournament from now on it's just being called can't Vegas it's going to be Bama Bill. And Paul I was wondering if you was making out a new eulogy for John calipari or if he's going to use the one that he had originally wrote because I honestly don't see us getting past the first round Friday or you think. Oh, I've got that I've got that one on file just in case. Say thank you for the call. Christian is up next. A hello Christian. Mister fine bomb, how are you doing today? We are doing great. Thank you. Yes, sir. I really have two questions for you and I'll hang up and listen because I know you got a busy show ahead. The first thing is based on how the season has gone and we knew they would be good, but it kind of came out of nowhere how good they were going to be, is it a disappointment if Alabama doesn't go all the way this year? And then also outside of Alabama, what SEC team has the most pressure on them to make a run in this tournament and why is that? Thank you. Well, I think Kentucky is a school that always has pressure on them because of the past. And the president, I mean, this Kentucky team, while it almost, while it was teetering 8 weeks ago, about not making the tournament started out as a pre season number four. Now I know as soon as I say that, some of you will say the number one preseason team in the country didn't even make the tournament. That's correct. But Kentucky always has pressure. I don't think I feel like it would be a disappointment. Alabama doesn't win. I think if they get to the final four, which the school has never gotten, people feel pretty good about that.

It gives me a new perspective to take into my responses and reactions to him as well. I suppose it was the kick in the teeth that I desperately needed, along with some much needed insight and perspective. His letter was also very important for me to read because he had been very reluctant to join his wife for the session. He was a self proclaimed skeptic. But one thing we definitely took away was having actual conversations with each other. Because this is what you're triggered by and this is what you're fighting. And you're fighting it with the same passion. That you were at home. So put in your words, what's the voice that fights? The voice, the voice of fight. So in my own head, you know, what I'm fighting against is shame, inadequacy. Being told what I have to do and not having my own say that it's a lack of autonomy. Most recently, he was blaming our 5 year old for leaving the bedroom door open, and the cat got in and used his closet as a litter box. And I said, well, but you could keep your closet door closed and that might be helpful. That's not okay. That's enough. You don't get no, that doesn't make any sense. What did I want to hear? Why are you putting this on me? Yeah, why are you putting this on me? This has nothing to do with me. That's not helpful. It's not helpful. And now now, now I'm angry about it because you're trying to blame me for something that why are you getting in my face about it? That's what I'm hearing. Right. Right. You know, do you think you're talking about a litter box? And a cat? Yes, there's no cat in his story. There's no cat. There's no cat in his story. But because he doesn't say that in the moment, in the moment he says something about the cat. That was when he said. That's what nobody likes. Nobody likes you. He went straight. I swear, I went straight to it. So he went into the part of him that felt belittled and ashamed. And his protection mode is then to say, you're not lovable. Yeah. And what do you do when he says that? Come back? No, I just didn't. I told him that was very mean and hurtful, and then I didn't talk to him for two weeks. Oh, and that's a comeback. Which, by the way, I was really shitty thing of me to say. And I'm really sorry. You told me a few times. I know. Thank you. I hold you in way higher regard than that. And I love you. So it's completely untrue. And bullshit. And I was angry, and I'm sorry. Don't forgive you. Okay. Thank you. And I know, I know a lot of the times, it sounds like we're just arguing about mundane things, but those mundane things had up. For both of us, and if it's a trigger, when we're constantly triggering each other, that's every day, another thing, and another thing, and it's death by a thousand cuts. No, it's every day the same thing. Every day, the same thing, right? But it may be in a different trapping. And that's why you're not going to stay on the things that you argue about. Right. Is you appeal to those people. And i appeal to the perfect new people. Okay before we let you escape. And by the crew drink couple of news. Bits from around the nhl vladimir tarasenko requesting a trade his as coming to a close in saint louis. What's the latest. We'll see now. Jeremy rutherford for the athletic credit to him. He got story. Oh tonight. I believe scott. Someone told me that scottie. Upshall had mentioned something on his podcast to about it. I believe that this is a mutual decision. I think that terasenko wants to go. And i think the team wants to move on now. Rutherford story talkable concerns about the surgery ad and whether or not a good enough job was done. You know i take jeremy. There's word i didn't hear that. Like i actually had heard about that in one case but not too so jeremy's obviously got good information there but i also think the blues would like to move on to like i think this is two sides looking at this and saying it's time to do it. There's a problem though. He hasn't played a ton he hasn't been himself and also his salary is more than this cap hit next year. So it's a very complicated difficult deal. But i do believe both sides wanted divorce so this is going to be some of the blockbuster then potentially whether it's eichel whether drove whether it's chris nets and oliver ackman larsen and seth jones and you know i'm gonna buggy. Boat duncan keith. Here in a second like this could be albeit in a really condensed time. This could be the craziest offseason we've seen in years. It really could be something. It has a chance to be really something. There's no there's no question about it i mean. The bio window begins in a couple of days. It's going to be wild. I mean i don't even know what date is anymore tomorrow. Today's the eighth right correct yet. July ninth is a very special day. Why is it your birthday. Mean courtney love oh nice. Well happy birthday. Jeff thank you. you're fifty. Two men have labor day officially be old. Then all your your three years away from seniors discounts. Man that's pretty impressive. Nice won't be able to stay up late to do podcasts anymore. Get a in early. Everybody wished jeff a happy birthday on friday. Thanks the expansion. Draft list are due to protect it. Lists are doing in nine days. It's going to be crazy bio windows. I'm curious about edmonson. I'm curious about vancouver so with that with edmonton curious about james neal. That'd be the obvious one or the goalie. Right with vancouver. What do they do with a bear. Ci or something like that going to be interesting. Why it's going to be a wild couple of weeks. Yes i think so. I told you. A bugaboo duncan keith. And here i go. Elliot duncan keith. I think edmonton is in chicago. Really grinding it. This i think chicago wants to make a hockey deal here and i think edmonton starting to play a little bit of hardball wondering if they've got kind of nowhere else to go we'll see we'll see where this goes. I mentioned david poile earlier. Talking about the the arvidsson deal in seattle becoming a seattle essentially saying if arvidsson available were taking them so they traded him to los angeles to depict some things up Poile also said you know. He's looking at doing some things with this team. That don't expect the exact same squad to come back. would you hear. What do you know about nashville. Well like i said. I think they're going to try to extend that home. I just wonder you know. I do think that that is something. That is on the table that they've been working on. I still think they're going to try to extend grantland. The i know they were a team. That liked ca lorne. So i'm wondering if they're looking at what tampa might and might not be able to do other than that. Nothing too big that. I've heard right now but that doesn't mean he's not working on something that hasn't got me i haven't gotten to it yet Whose tops on your radar right. Now as far as curiosity goes team or player both who. That's that's a good one. I'm sort of assuming that the eichel talk is going to heat up more than it already has. Now i've had a couple of people tell me now. They think that might not happen until after the expansion draft. And i do think this i think vegas is sniffing around eichel not a surprise at all. I don't know how they do it. A to get the cap space and be to make the assets available to buffalo to make it happen. I do think they're they're looking at this. I do you know. I'll tell you this. The i'm not so sure of phillies going to be able to pull off a set jones deal either. Why's that. I'm just hearing that. It's the ask is huge. Well it's not even that the ask is huge. I just wonder if he's going to commit to them. So do you think that. Regardless of where seth jones ends up he just wants to test the market. I think there's a couple of places he would consider signing long-term now but i not sure phillies one. Would his brother be a magnet. I don't know. I know chicago's thinking that it's a good idea. The rob meter meyer playwrights. The rob fireplace. I don't know of that certainly does it. I just heard that the big question was be. Would jones sign in philly and i don't think philly's that interested in doing this if they don't think he will or will he won't commit to it. Now it's chuck fletcher under the gun here to do quote unquote something. I don't even know if it's under the gun. I think he wants to well. He wanted to at the end of the when the The bubble was over in edmonson Like there was i okay. Philadelphia's in on a whole bunch of things and then this season happened with the philadelphia flyers which was wildly disappointing based on expectations. All i still think they're going to do things i think. The biggest question is is hugh moving that commit there. And if no i don't think philly does it right all recommend larssen that to me is going to be a fascinating one. Do we have any idea yet. How many teams he'd be willing to entertain moving to. I don't think it's about who he's willing to go to. I think it's about who's willing to make a deal with arizona about it like i'll tell you this. I heard that his exit meeting with arizona. This year was as brief as brief could get basically. It's time yeah. It's time so. I just think it comes down to who's willing.

"Finally got there at thirty five years. Old time is undefeated but does the emergence of some of these younger kids. Give you more reason for optimism. Yes i would say that. I just think the watching your playoffs. The one thing if they just had one more game-breaker one more. Like i said the great team identity the of grigoli they played their system to a t. They need another score or more consistent scoring We said all season long about the haves and and getting the goals. Okay listen before you wrap up this podcast and we're going to do more on this. Podcast isn't going away an exit a while. We're going to do more. Wrap up on the cup and what this means for these teams and what's happening next whether it's Expansion draft whether it's nhl draft whether it's free agency or once in a couple of seconds here Because i know after this podcast you're going ahead with the crew. Yup you just went through a really long run. And i think it's important to a acknowledged that so look dude like really well done though. Some great work. I know a lot of what you do really keeps you up late at night and gets you up early in the morning and you never complain about it. One thing. I think people appreciate about you is. It's been a tough season and you don't mind giving people a laugh even if it's at your expense all whether it's the beard or whether it's the hair or whether it's The action the jug of water was outstanding as well. And i loved ambrose tweet about how it's It wasn't water. But i know you're not wanted to take public vows but i think you deserve one here and i'll let you do the elliott friedman thing now and talk about everybody other than yourself talk about the crew you just worked with. Oh through the stanley cup playoffs here. Like look the best part about doing any of this stuff. Is the people and you know we. We finally had our. I kind of like group. Thing is in montreal as teammates of the season and it was it was really special and it was really spectacular. Neil the thing about the podcast is you and me and all we do it for the listeners. Right there was a guy. Came up to me tonight His he lives in tampa bay. Lightning fans name was jack. He just came up to our sentencing. It really loves the podcast. And you know that's why you know we turn these around late at night because we know the is didn't like it. There's no point in doing it. And we always appreciate the audience and i appreciate. The co workers knew a lot of our co workers. Jeff had to be in a bubble for two months. And i could tell like i joined the bubble at the end of this series and i could just tell like how i don't know what the proper word is but it's challenging. I think is the best way to put it and you know for you have to be so disciplined and you have to give up on so many things you want to do. I can't tell you how much i appreciate. My co workers. Who did that. And you know the the thing about my hair and stuff like we've talked about it. I just like to do stuff like that. So people can have a good laugh. You know. I watch a lot of inside the nba on tnt. Which i think is the best studio show. And i look at the things that they do that people really like about them and i think we need to do a little bit more of that on hockey night and we talk about that all the time and you know some of the things that went viral and some of the like the shots. Some of you are taking me whether they were fun or weren't at twitter. I like all that stuff. I think engagement is so important you know. My wife texted me. Tonight she goes. Did you mention me on the air about the water. And i go. Yeah and she goes. Can you leave me out of this next time. But but i will tell you of all the tweets. Dmz i got and some were positive in summer negative. I mean whatever. It's it's my choice. And i'm gonna do it whether people like it or not. You know most people seem to really have fun with it but there was one person who said to me that the you going on air like this is hope for all of us who aren't perfect looking that it can happen and i don't really like compliments. I tend to ignore them. But i will say that when stung me a bit in a positive way because i am that person. I am far from perfect. I know i'm really attractive. Like nine on a scale of ten. No i know i am far from a perfect human in the way i physically look and i was told that my first ever job interview that i wasn't good looking enough to be on tv. And i tell that story a lot to young people and that one really reached me. Because i think all of you out there who don't see themselves as an attractive person but you wanna do this kind of stuff. There's a way for you. You've got to try to be as good as it is. You possibly can be. And that's all i try to do is try to be as good as it is. I can possibly be but there's a way for you if you can do that. And if there's anything. I hope i accomplished in these playoffs with the unseen way. I.

"And can you do it. And the people in that organization. Certainly do congratulations campbell to the montreal canadians. The price weber press conference was interesting specifically carey price. Tried to say the difference was. I didn't play well enough. Early on and weber. Cut him off and said i disagree. I don't think that's the case at all to be honest. I think that We weren't good enough in front of kerry. There were i mean. Give them credit there. Heck of a team. They're here for a reason and They were they were better than us in the end even before it got to the press conference i i saw something unique tonight and that is the. I didn't see the shots on the bench of webber with tears in his eyes at the end of the game. But i saw him on the ice and while tampa was celebrating i saw guys go over to him was probably about half the team and console them and that i don't recall seeing that before. Maybe it's happened. Jeff but i really noticed it. You don't see that. Gallagher had a shift late in the game where he was next to the tampa and that and he pulled something. Oh that looks so painful. Oh my god came back to the bench. He swore and you just do the he was dying right. And these are some of your your guys and you know for weber to try to ease it up so price didn't have to eat it all. Yeah i mean. I got told this week that last year mark berge van told his staff after they beat pittsburgh and loss to philly. I have a team that i think if it gets into the playoffs will be tough out. And i'm going to double down on that and it was close. I mean they lurch towards the end of the regular season you know. They were down three one at toronto and should have been out but he won is bad and the thing about that. I'm wondering now jeff is. I'm curious to see where they kind of go from here you know. Can you keep doing that every year. I mean coffee is going to have a bigger role is going to have an interesting choice about who to protect and things like that too but you know that was berge ovens bat any one with it and now with the division switching again next year does he make the same bet right because let's not forget he's going into a division. Now that will include tampa will include boston and will include a very much improved. Florida panthers squad plus toronto. Yeah that's gonna be. That's a tough nowhere. The arwa fans i know. Listen the ottawa fans. They're going to have big expectations. I know they're thinking they're going to push for a playoff spot and they might and they might the ottawa. Senators might just do that okay. So what becomes the questions here. Then i mean for me. One of the questions about the montreal. Canadians is filipino. And is he back because in these playoffs he was outstanding. Elliot i expect a bourbon will try again just on the same page. There was an attempt made at the beginning of the season. I believe yeah and they were about. They were somewhere around half a million to seven hundred fifty thousand apart That was the spread and it affected to know early in the year and finally he got his legs under him and no he didn't score a ton but he played a ton if you take a look at it. He led montreal's forwards in ice time in the play offs and he had one goal. And i think that's the first time that's happened since i think two thousand six. I have the note somewhere. But i think that's how long it's been and i'm sure he's gonna try. Berge is gonna try but he made himself a lot of money he did the no eighteen fifty six. He beat suzuki by a second. Yeah and he had one goal. That's i wanted to go next nick. Suzuki did we see the emergence of the next big number one center for the montreal canadians. Oh yeah no question about it. Look he's gonna take an even bigger role coffee. It's gonna take an even bigger role. It's obvious to that. The coach really trust. Jake evans right. Yes like he's he's ducharme security blanket. Which makes it even more challenging. Probably to keep denault. Because eventually you're going to have to sign that's three centers in not even mentioning kotkin. Yeah me and you've gotta sign suzuki only get to cut. Can you hear thac. it's really tricky. But the other thing too for me is who are they gonna protect. Are they going to protect four defensemen like they rode their top four as we saw five and six. They didn't play together. And even strength they would rotate one of the other four guys. So is montreal gonna leave one of those guys on protected or they're going to make a deal so they can do that. It's going to be interesting. I think seattle is getting a lot of deals right now. You can get a lot of offers. Mean david poile talked about you know. That's why we moved. Viktor arvidsson because you know seattle essentially said you know if you leave him if you leave him available were taking them so we thought we'd trade him and get something for them and would like to do a deal to make sure that We don't lose other players That we don't wanna lose just to close on montreal. I don't think the north division was anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. I think it was different. They beat vegas and they handled vegas as that series got going. They were better than vegas was significantly as that continued. And if you look at the ratings in the states right now. I think montreal being in the cop and the numbers not being great is a major reason why we're not seeing a canadian division. Next year i just don't think they wanna gift wrap a canadian team into the final four as they start a new tv deal. But you know. I mean the canadians man. They they fought and they scrapped and they clawed for every inch they got. I'm curious how much a whole year of caufield changes their offense. That's the thing that i don't think they had was. You know. they played a great team game. They played tough but they didn't have the game. Breakers that tampa had and caufield shows obvious ability. I'm curious yellow. Whole season of them. Changes what they think they near. Don't need offensively. You think they have enough to get back like we've seen this before teams that just sort of that. Get there but can't stay there like we said this. I mean this is. This is the story of sports right. It's harder to stay there than to get there. Getting there is one thing but staying. There is so tough it is so so hard to win. I wonder if the emergence of players like suzuki and the emergence of players like caufield makes it significantly easier for the montreal canes. I wonder sort of what type of effect that has on this hab steam. Because let's face it. Let's face it like shea weber's almost inconsolable..

"That did it for me. The only other guy kinda considered was ryan mcdonagh. Cooper kinda put them on our radar and mcdonough was really good. But i just think that the tampa's defense is so good. I mean it is so so so good i went vassal. Eski kucherov point. Let's go to kucherov fan because watching this press conference. I was stunned first of all. He shows up shirtless which is always a great. Look as you're celebrating with a ten a beer. I'm doing this podcast shirtless. By the way. So a somewhat slightly buckled nikita kucherov goes off. We have nikita kucherov media. Please raise your hand if you have a question. We'll start with. Joe smith athletic job. Let's hear how would you describe you. Congratulations how would you describe your emotions right now. After doing did. I don't know what to say back to back and i couldn't sleep for three nights to be able to win this game. Huge wise was outstanding mvp. I was telling him every day. Why is he your mvp you. You're the best player and then they gave it to whatever the guy in vegas division a- and then last year the reason that to somebody else number one number two both cups you know he can we keep telling me he's he's the guy that is know he was he said today and he kept us in a game in another shutout rip by him remarkable given tell more. I'm so happy we didn't want to go back to montreal. But they acted the fans in montreal. Come on the acted like they won the stanley cup. Last game. you kidding me. You're kidding me. China romano tampa bay times. Their final was less less serious. Okay of all post game press conferences. We've seen after the stanley cup. Like this is a next level presser. This is the one that you don't. Maybe it's just so profound because we don't expect that from hockey especially not from him because he doesn't talk very much. Not a chatty guy we know that and here he is just blasting off like we expect to see more of the steven stamkos style of press conferences and we got that and stamkos spoke. You know quite eloquently and politely and respectfully nikita kucherov was not that guy he was the opposite of what you're getting into steven stamkos press conference. What did you make of kucherov blasting off. Because from my point of view we decide what heroes and villains before and don't be shy about embracing the villain in you or the villain on your team. Kucherov became add immense villain in montreal. Tonight and the canadians will remember this. The next time they play yes you know he's going to get it from someone. There's no. There's no question that some canadians going to take a run at him to stand up for their fan base. I mean there is no doubt about however first of all showing up shirtless hilarious. He has a reputation for being kind of crusty and prickly and he proved it but he can also obviously be really funny. The first thing. I believe is if you're gonna talk you got to back it up. He backs it up. Let me that because what makes it even more profound is the fact that this is nikita. Kucherov saying this like one of the best players in the world. This isn't i don't mean to sound disrespect. But this isn't pat maroon. Who were we sort of expect. You know sometimes to be that guy to deliver these messages this way. This is the key to this guy could have had the smythe trophy beside him as he was he was playing hurt. Legitimately hurt like i think he. He has a reasonably significant rib injury. Yeah the only reason. I'm not saying like it's very significant. I just don't know. But i think he has a rib injury and secondly he's not speaking in his first language. I you know. Sometimes we forget how hard that is but to see him come far. I love what he said about vasilevskiy. 'cause i i agree with him on the vesna thing. I don't you know. Sometimes guys don't win but i disagreed with the number of ballots. He was left off of. I'm sure people can hammer my own picks but that's fine you know kucherov. It was epic. That was quite a performance. But you know next year some canadians gonna take a run at them because you have to stand up for your fan base. Yeah but i gotta tell you. Like number one bold leap. That's going to be on t shirts everywhere. You can expect that first thing tomorrow. Morning t-shirts hats. That'll be people's avatars on social media. You know that's going to happen from an nhl point. Because i mean this is making headlines. This presser from an nhl point of view. Cooler not cool. It's cool. It is cool like i love it but here. Here's the thing. I have a poor sense of what's good and what's not because i love that but my background is villains are necessary but but we've talked about this. We talked to was in the last podcast that or one of the more recent pockets villain. Nhl needs villains. We can all sit here and say we want players to be honest and then rip them when they're honest. Here's a guy with a who's a great player who has this personality doesn't show a lot about his. Obviously some liquid courage in there and he's going up firing. We can't say hockey players are boring or hockey players. Don't talk and all of a sudden this guy goes out there and gives us everything we're clamoring for and start saying ooh that's bad or we shouldn't do that. Sorry you can't have it both ways. No listen i agree wholeheartedly. I love it. And i've made the point. He probably will never do another interview for another season. And i've always made the point to like. I think stuff like this is so important sports. I really do because. I don't know that i've ever heard anyone say i can't wait to get to the game tonight to watch these two teams respect each other I don't think that those words have ever been spoken before..

"The playoffs center. Point right so chernick so step dead. Saturday for gruff paul redirected and one of the lightning. What a pass by sabar pinson's head up. He's pulled in front of the net. Got stick on the ice with edmonton on them but the passes so perfect. It's right on to the stick of colton any just redirected into the net. And that is the stanley cup game. Winning the stanley cup winning goal. I guess think. I always think about that. Like for someone like roscoe and they just one thing for stamkos scored or kucherov for point. They'll be profanities so be meaningful but to have someone like ross coleman score that gorge died about matt you joseph's contributions in these playoffs at the two assists and coming up in big games. I don't know. I just really liked the fact that it was. Ross colton that scored that goal elliott. Because that does talk to the depth of the tampa bay lightning and talk. All you want about the superstars at the end of it tampa was just deeper and better than everybody else in this league. They were and i know people get upset. Some people get upset because of the salary cap. I've said it before. I'll say it again if the league and the teams wanted to close this loophole. They would've done it six years ago for patrick kane and they didn't and you know what it says to me. Is you have an owner. Who will do anything to win. You have an organization that will do anything to win you know. Tampa has some ruthlessness in their organization. They the way they negotiate contracts when you don't have leverage they can be really really tough really really tough but at the end of the day. It's all about winning for them and everything they do is about that and have one. Gm who thinks it's an absolute fiasco that breathes blood did not win gm of the year this year. Yeah i. I've heard a lot of that too. I agree and i waited for a text tonight. I didn't get it. But he is been on me about that being a total fiasco and you got to be ruthless. Sometimes to win. And that's the way tampa is. They will do everything they can and they proved it again this year. One more notable the depth of the tampa bay lightning was this the year and the play offs where everything gets a brighter light shined on it. Was this the play offs where everybody finally understood. Just how good. Eric sure nak is as a defenseman. I think there's a lot of guys. They're like search of how how far he's come chernick. Yes i believe craig. Simpson mentioned him in the post game. How much he's grown. But you know. Matthew joseph comes in and he's an impactful player you'll maybe turn back. Is the poster boy for this year but there were a lot of guys on that team that we talked about it on the one of the more recent podcasts. How many people do you think are calling our tampering with a good row and coleman while they're celebrating with the stanley cup. I'm sure it's app and we talked about that with alec martinez of course throwing good row in in in coleman who are you as and you know that was one of the themes in the post game whether it was john cooper on the ice whether it was steven stamkos at the podium. I mean openly talking about. Hey listen there's salary cap there's expansion draft. Don't expect this team to be together next season as we see right now even stamkos talked about how you want to win so bad. And you're so pissed off about last game and you come in this game and we just we reset and we just use. Everything is motivation this year. Kuch wasn't here in the regular season. We did our job. We made the playoffs. He comes back. We know we got a chance. We know you know going forward with the salary cap world that this might be the last game that this particular group place together. I can't say how much that motivated us. We talked about it midway through the play offs. We talked about it going into game. Five of the islander series. Let's take advantage of this opportunity that it's it's not very often. You get this chance to play with the talented team like we did. The reality is like a lot of guys that are going splits. Full here from the tampa bay lightning. Yes and that's a very powerful motivator. If you have a team that really gets along with each other that really works and it clearly worked in this particular case. I'm really curious to see what they decide to do here. Is there any way they can find to keep any of their guys that they wanna keep. We know that they use the florida state taxes to their advantage. If anybody is injured we know they'll use after caloric who came out and told kyle that he had a broken fibula a put a rod into it and tried to play. Anyway you know all the jokes were coming out of a well. There's the first contender for long-term injury next season this year. We all thought things were going to happen. And then the kucherov injury came out. Okay so i think you have to know and they waited and they waited and they waited. They did the lamb morello rule. If you have time use it now this time. They won't have as much time they're going to be forced to make some decisions early. But i'm really really curious to see what this team does. And how they go about trying to keep themselves really good for next year. Andrei vasilevskiy wins the kind. Smyth you care to talk about your ballot. Sure i had vasilevskiy one kucherov too. And i had a point three. I thought a lot about mcdonagh earlier in the round ahead kucherov one but you know kucherov played hard but he clearly this epoch press conference he had and and we'll we'll talk about that. Did anyone ask them. What is injury was. I didn't see it. No i think he has a pretty significant rib injury. Like i had a couple of people point out to me and we showed it in the pre-game if you watched the power play. They didn't score on at the end of game four. He has a one timer where he's just an agony. When it's over and you know the same thing kind of happened tonight. He had one one time or in the first period that price just eight alive but he clearly was not himself and you know i think vassilev ski again another shutout his record in after they lose his record and clinchers..

"Sorry i just did a strawberry of that giant jug of water. Thirty one thoughts. The podcast. Not a car cast. It is a tampa cast stanley cup. Champion cast presented by. Gmc sierra four. Jeff americans deauville elliott in tampa. Where you've just seen the tampa bay lightning when the second stanley cup in a row and in the process andrei vasilevskiy collected the con- smyth trophy. You're there packed rink. Lots of fun celebrations all of it. We will get to the nikita kucherov press conference afterwards. And we'll talk about what's next for both of these two teams but give us a sense of what it was like to soak that in on wednesday night eliot. I didn't know what to expect. Really jeff like for example. I haven't been at an arena with a full crowd. I think since the all star game last year in saint louis now and you know the whole thing is so surreal. I went to my first game last week in montreal. And then we come down here and the world is just a really different place now. I'll tell you i saw there. Were a couple of lightning jerseys. I saw tonight the number twenty four. So i thought they were ryan callahan jerseys. But they said descent is twenty four on them teeth when you go to florida. You're in a completely different world right now. And you'll those of us who work in covering the playoffs where the only people in our hotel wearing mass. Somebody told me expect people to be rude to you. They weren't rude to me. A couple of them looked at me funny but nobody said a word about it you know. They respected my space and i respected. There's and it's funny like one person actually said to me the asked me. Are you vaccinated. I said yes. I'm double taxed and they looked at me kind of funny and they said you know like to a lot of us down here in florida. If you wear a mask you're not vaccinated. So they actually thought. I wasn't vaccinated. It just shows you how you know different. You are from place to place. But i told my wife i was going into a complete almost totally full ring. Technically it's not a sellout and she's like it's so hard to fathom but you know the place was wild these fans. They were riled up before the game. Sometimes you go into buildings a game three going into montreal jeff. That building was confident and tampa took it away. From the quick game foregoing into montreal. Those canadians fans were nervous and they found a way to win tonight. This was a confident crowd. They thought they were going to win. And even though price kinda stole the first period. I thought maybe the tampa fans would be nervous that they weren't gonna win. They never wavered. You could tell it was a confident crowd and they thought they were going to win and to be honest. I you know the best team won. They were deep forward and d. Everybody contributed they had the con- smyth trophy winner in that. This was the best team in the league this year. And they are deserving winners very deserving winners yeah that first period carry price was outstanding Shots thirteen to four for tampa. It was Again the tilted rink the you know the the kick off the week specter from the tampa bay lightning. I'll tell you what you talk about depth. I don't know that we can talk enough about. Ross colton tonight. We're going to what all the stars. And all that. But i just loved that. It was a depth player on tampa that scores the stanley cup winning goal. Beautiful play mcdonagh to savard savard. Who makes maybe the best pass he's ever made in his career right on the stick of ross cold and To make a one nothing. His fourth goal.

He served four terms in Congress amid the Vietnam War and went on to serve as an aide to President Nixon. Before being appointed ambassador to NATO in 1974. He led President Ford's transition team and later became president. Ford's chief of staff, Ford moved Rumsfeld out of the White House and into the Pentagon. As the youngest secretary of defense in U. Rumsfeld spent some years in the private sector as one of the nation's top CEOs. President Reagan asked Rumsfeld to be his Mideast envoy. Position that even brought Rumsfeld face to face with Saddam Hussein, the man who would become his biggest foe. Almost two decades later, a Rumsfeld biographer says he sounded early alarm bells on terrorism. And threats to the U. S. And again former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, passing away at the age of 88 6 45 are going to talk with Tori Clarke, former assistant secretary of Defense Republic affairs under Donald Rumsfeld, talking about the life and the legacy of the former defense secretary. But, Beverly, you know again. I mean, you hear that? Resume we think about, I think about Donald Rumsfeld as George H. W. Bush's or George W. Bush's secretary of defense, but, man, I mean, what an incredible and and you know, decades long political career this Manhattan decades of service and somebody who Clearly loved working left serving his country. Somebody who was very active and I remember him most like you for 9 11. I was in Arlington, Virginia. When the plane hit the Pentagon. I remember looking out my window and seeing the smoke. From the Pentagon and trying to figure out what just took place and probably the most memorable picture of then Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was running into the Pentagon to see if he could help any of the survivors or help anybody who who needed help. That day. And so I think 9 11 is what he's remembered for. I've been reading some of the obituaries of him. Some are glowing and we're going to have some people talking about who he was as a man and some of them demonizing him for what he did following 9 11 and how he led our military when it came to going after those who did commit this terror on us, so Mixed reviews about the man himself. But I think those who we have on today to talk about the complete legacy of him are the ones you're going to tell the story. Correct? Absolutely. And we're going to get to that story. We've got a lot more to get to hear an O Connor and company right now at 6 21 on W M A L. It's Larry for new Look home design. I know it can be hard to understand different roofing prices. Some contractors, prices are so low that you immediately don't trust the quality of the work right. And then there's the way too high price where you wonder what you're even paying for. Well, I want to tell you that Patrick Finkel's and new look home design have what I like to call the Goldilocks price. The roofing price. It's just right here is why new Look, gives you line by line pricing. So you know exactly what you're paying for it. They call it T.

"Jeff. Welcome to the podcast bad. Yeah thanks thanks. Much for coming on and <hes>. Thanks also for like picking this movie. Like i i am. I totally adored it when i saw in theaters. I like haven't thought about it in a few years so it was like it was so fun to revisit. It like what was the. What was your first time seeing this like. How did how did it <hes>. So i kind of look through a films that you had done before. And then clearly. I kind of disregarded the vibe a little bit because you had a lot of very popular films that were like award award show where the <hes>. And this one i mean. I don't say i'm not gonna say it's not that it's a great film. But it's it's a very contained <unk>. Intel the budget super-low but the vision for it is like so specific. Yeah hopefully and we'll get into like why. I picked it like more in depth but the thing is that i'm i lived in chicago for six years. I don't right now. But i was like kind of medium heavily involved in improv community. There that's awesome. Yeah now. I didn't personally do improv. I did a lot of video work with improvisers. And i have been to like fifty improv shows off and this film captures the like the vibe of that community <hes>. Unlike just the vibe of how the shows are so perfectly. Yeah yeah for sure for sure i am not someone that's like i'm not someone that's like been that involved improv. <hes> is is that <hes>. So were you working with specific comedy troupe. Or like we're like what was it was it was. It was a like a few different people. Like the the person i worked the most with <hes>. Is this guy dan white. Who's like pretty. I mean it's like medium popular on twitter. Yeah he's had some like hit twitter videos where like one where he like is with bill. Murray and then like falls over <hes>. Down weird and then there's another one where he is like. He's like wearing like a freddy kruger. Claw any like open the shower curtain to like scares remain in this four guys in there showering together. It's just like really weird. He's an improv. Team called fudge that i like worked a lot with <hes>. Yeah but it's it's it's a very like at the top end of it. It's like a very tight knit community. Yeah i <hes>. But the thing is that there are it is like in this film where a lot of it's it's a few people like really make it from there so a lot of the people that i worked with their friends with their friends with people that are like on saturday night live. Yeah yeah for sure. Because it's not. I mean i mean saturday night. Live people people think they kinda draft from people think they pull their people from everywhere. It's it's mostly second city in uc. Beat right i mean yeah and i. Oh oh yacht the other big theater in chicago being who does a lot of improper right you only have like two actual like pathways to jobs where you get like semi famous <hes>. A lot of people become television writers. Yeah you know they just do a lot of comedy. But then the only actual performance based job that you can like step up from being someone who who's an improv theater. Is saturday night live. It's the only show where they're pulling people from improv. Yeah yeah that's crazy that's crazy. Yeah are are you are you. Are you big into snl in general or were you kind of. I'm not. I'm so. I'm kinda. I have the attitude like the characters in this film where they're like. It's not really that good but at the same time. It's the only way to make a living doing something similar to improve. Yeah for sure. So you'd have none of them think it's the head good. It's the only step that you have to become famous for sure for sure. Yeah i i remember. When i saw this in the theater i was like came out in two thousand sixteen. Like i don't think i've i don't think i don't think i've missed an snl show since like two thousand eight. Like i i was. I was just very into it in high school. And and now it just feel committed and so they say something in the middle of the movie when they're watching weekend live where they like where they talk about how. It's the only sport of comedy. And i remember hearing that line at the time because it really hit me that i was like i follow it like a sports team to me where it's like. They have like up seasons in down seasons. And sometimes i love it and sometimes i don't. Sometimes they're stronger in the first quarter and then they show lags at the end. But like yeah. If for me. I've just like ended up following it like a sports team. So i ended only occurred to me after i heard that in this movie <hes>. Yeah no it's it's it's just such an interesting community totaling it and this is the only film. It's really about that community. That has kind of like an insider's feel too <hes>. Because i had a lot of times. Were since i was friends with that one group after the show. Just hang out at the theater bar and just like talk for a couple of hours. Yeah and it's just. It's very insular in that. That is their entire life kind of but they also have to have other jobs. Because here's the things you don't make any money doing it.

"Today i welcome twice exceptional change maker danielle coughlin to our change maker interview win. Danielle talks about being twice exceptional. She's talking about kids who are both gifted and experiencing some kind of learning challenge. She readily admits that this category describes her own experience of the world as well. Everyone i am excited to be here today for another change maker interview with an awesome teacher that i know and i was fortunate. Know her before she was a teacher. This is danielle coughlin welcomed in l. A. letter thank you for having me and for setting this up. Always fantastic mentor. Patty take you so so nice to have an excuse to just be with you. You're all that you've been up to now as you know. And as i've been doing in these interviews. I like to start with the homegrown quadrant of her change maker journey. And this is where i ask you to tell us about your roots and who your people are and how all of that is important to who you are today feel so. I grew up and southeastern virginia and virginia beach and chesapeake. My parents are married. When i was more i was born. I doubt this navy so he was deployed a lot growing up. My mom was a nurse has an elementary school. My mom's switched careers between being a nurse to going into pharmaceutical sales which kind of elevated the economic status of household to in my mother was very very proud to be able to provide a lot of opportunities for my sister but she did not have in fact when i think about who fires me to keep trying for more keep trying to serve people to not give up when things are hard. I really think about my mom but growing up. I didn't feel that way about her and she didn't feel that way about me because we were different people. My mother and father in my family have always thought very differently than i thought about a lot of things but that being said growing up with my dad when he was home the way that we mostly bonded was through conversation hammers about ideas. Every time we were in the car we were talking theory in politics and he never held back and even when we disagreed he would just ask why so. There was some kind of tension growing up but most often it was As far as ideas go it was an open opportunity to exchange into question and I think that kind of who i am.
