OnEducation Now!: Negotiations Stalled
This is on occasion. Now, I'm your host Mike wash. After Dale bargaining LA. Teachers are nowhere closer to deal. Monday saw Dave negotiating, but the two sides fell short of reaching an agreement. Teachers have been working without a contract since June two thousand seventeen and twenty months of negotiations have not yielded any results, Monday, brought new proposals and ideas but little agreement. Dueling news, conferences, shed light on the negotiations. The district is offering a six percent. Raise teacher salaries spread over the first two years of the three year deal. Union leaders are asking for six and a half percent all at once. The district is also offering extra money to hire more librarians and Akkad Emma counselors in order to potentially help reduce class sizes while the increase in staff may seem significant to some host to seven hundred new educators. The doesn't seem to be nearly enough considering the size of the massive school district which employs over thirty thousand teachers has over. Thousand schools and nearly half a million students the union is characterizing some of these increases as temporary though, they may reduce class sizes in the short term. The offer does little to change things. Long-term maximum class sizes may even increase eventually under the offer on the union side or request for more controller standardized test was conceded, which is unfortunate since it might be one of the single most important factors in the negotiation directly tied to sue. No comes a strike date of January tenth has been set. Though. There is some issue with whether the day provided the district with sufficient notice, we might actually see this issue in court this week as we get closer to that Thursday deadline all in all on the first day back from winter break. There was not a lot of good news coming from these negotiations only with the UT LA characterize as small steps forward by Thursday. It seems likely that students will be back.
