U.S. Inflation Accelerates to 7.5%, a 40-Year High

"The government's latest numbers show inflation at its highest rate in four decades I'm Ben Thomas with the latest the labor department says consumer prices jumped seven point five percent last month compared with January of last year the steepest year over year increase since February nineteen eighty two a price gain was six tenths of a percent from December that was the same as the rate of inflation from November to December and more than economists had expected though a tad slower than earlier in the fall over the past year shortages of supplies and workers heavy doses of federal aid ultralow interest rates and robust consumer spending have all contributed to the rise in inflation in their few signs it will slow significantly anytime soon wages are rising at the fastest pace in at least twenty years and supply chain issues were compounded in January when many workers at key ports like Los Angeles and Long Beach were out sick Ben

"That is interesting so So they don't have they don't companies from the site so to speak Devender expecting upset university and walk in flagging is said that that assists students date do prefer commercial careers as opposed to economic funding. Yeah so what. i'm finding. i think the biggest impact. I'm finding actually on the publication output up students So i see this big drop in terms of their publication. Total number and also. They're highly cited publications than i do some more analysis looking at different types. It's all pretty consistent across very many different specification And i'm finding that. The students are also less likely to take on a faculty position whereas in the newer findings currently working on this paper in a revision I'm finding that they're more likely onto consulting which is interesting And i don't want to like you know say consulting is good or bad or anything but it's interesting to see that these highly trained signed scientists. Phd's you are like at. The leading edge of research and development are entering consulting and no longer able to get faculty positions. Which is usually the reason they get into the program if you look at surveys and also there's some research looking at why do individuals start their p cheese. It's usually motivated to become a pi yourself. So yeah that's that's the big finding And that paper and yeah as you were saying that is are still faculty. Usually the best professors. Those are the ones who enter into entrepreneurship and they still remain at the university. While they have their their side. Gigs yeah. "So i'm i'm really excited about fellowship community that we're building and i can't wait to see what kind of companies and connections are formed from it. i guess looking long term we ultimately we want the biotech longevity biotech fellowship to be the go to place for people who want to connect and building credible companies together in a community. That is laser focused on on longevity. What's the what's the. Why now question i mean generally speaking i think now is the right time to get involved in longevity because you know investors in society are just beginning to wake up to this idea that we can intervene in aging The science is definitely ready for translation. Right there most of the discoveries that we discussed earlier in the history of longevity those those occurred maybe like ten to twenty years ago. And so so. There's been enough time for you. Know these different approaches to work through labs and finally get to private industry to to be translated in clinical trials so so yeah definitely the scientists ready also just general the growth opportunity in the sector will be just a tremendous especially in this coming decade. The need is definitely there. World populations are getting older of the healthcare burden from age related. Diseases are probably going to increase significantly throughout the coming decades so I think working on longevity is really just kind of like one of the highest leverage things you can do right now and Obviously reversing aging is is probably the big idea in in medicine like in all of history like it totally changes the the paradigm on life itself and As we said before there's a of capital flowing into the space which is which is great for founders. But we we really need is just more people making the jump to join this industries start companies. You know joining longevity biotech start-ups. And so there's like a really urgent need for something like you know ondeck longevity biotech fellowship. Nothing like it really exists. So that's why. I joined to you know..

Doctors trying to make money without any concern whatsoever. The nurses were not like that but the doctors without any concern for her suffering. And i just i really so now. When i see that they're gonna use this information to try to up sell stuff that they can sell and knowing that they trained for that. I didn't mean to get totally derailed here but i of brazen that they put that language in. oh no like no no. No it wasn't. They found no documents show. Is what okay. That language was in documents that you know. They didn't put that in a press. Release yeah but it was in their documents though they yeah. Yeah and. I think that's how they get trained but it's so grossly unethical and of course since fao she's wife is very prominent bioethicists. I am not surprised are bioethics are down the tubes. I don't even know if a lot of people because of the training are consciously even thinking about that way because you go through the medical school and you're taught the procedures and the steps you're supposed to do. Here's what happens when you see this. You do this that in this. You see that you do this. They're just giving this checklist of things to do and it might not even constantly register with some of them. The reason for that. Some of those things is a financial benefit. And i wouldn't be surprised if that's why. They went back and digitized at first digitize the records. I'm talking like ten or twenty years ago. You know it's kind of one of those things where i was a typical adviser back in the day. I don't know if you ever had any any dealings with financial advisor. Most people are like okay. The guy asked me how much money have. And how much is he going to charge me to manage that that money. That's most people's experiences working with financial. I love the field. I just didn't want to do that all right so we decided that we to work with with people who delivered something that we believed in so we actually started working with physical therapists. That was the first type of Healthcare professional that we worked with. And i learned really early on then if i was gonna help. Physical therapy practice owner with their with their personal finances. I had to know something about their business. Because that is the main generator of of your income. You know for a long long period of time. And if i don't if i can't tell you how to direct money from the business to help you out of debt and you know accumulate reserves and all those things that i really wasn't doing my job as a financial adviser. So that's that's really. What i learned on is that that we have to show practice owners. You know that their business is by far your biggest investment most valuable investment and it really should be set up so it serves the household which is their parent company. The way that we look at him and you and you did something that i think. "My grandparents then but what these families are pointing to is a report by state commission. That was a state commission that was put together about twenty years ago to investigate the massacre and in the commission report. They concluded that reparations were the right thing to do and called it quote a moral argument so this isn't something that's just made up or doesn't have any any support behind a state commission backs this effort now. Will this ever happen. Who knows at this point. I would argue that. It's unlikely the mayor of tulsa who has very much is in support of these families. He stopped short of saying that. There should be direct payments to these families but the families are pressing on the survivors. Never received any type of reparations They never received any type of benefit and they never really ask for anything. But i think it needs to be acknowledged that we have to do better. There are some people who would argue that that in in instead of payments that perhaps the better way is for example. A new training center here in the community that i'm standing in the middle of that would help for example train young people here give them the type of like carpentry skills that they could have used to help build the new history center. That's going up. You know none of the local people were involved in that. Why is it that the cranes that are going up all around this community We don't own it. we're not building. You don't like the word reparations. No sir you prefer the word love offering lot. Those type of things are the the help the family say they need now and what they need to truly replace that generational wealth. And if you're talking about reconciliation this has to be part in people get cold feet often to get uncomfortable. So i would say for that parent who is feeling like i've gone too far. I've messed this up In your apology put a name to the things that happened We may not have thought to teach our kids about trauma. Twenty years ago i didn't know But with my older children I try to put some words to those things now win. Your dad died. That was traumatic. And i didn't know how to help you through that situation. I'm sorry that i didn't support you. Well we're putting some words to that. Child may come back at you.
