Arizona Is Now the Frontline of the Fight to Secure Our Elections

"Is now the frontlines of the fight to secure our elections and find out what actually happened in the two thousand twenty election. Thanks to several leaders in the arizona house of representatives and the arizona senate. We are seeing. Finally the results of the arizona audit come out the arizona legislature stepped up and i have to say they stepped up rather heroically to actually execute this audit and find out to what extent was arizona's election conducted illegally and so the way that the activist media has been portraying the arizona audit was as if it was only a recount when in reality it was an audit as we said multiple times before on this program. A recount is simply putting the ballots again in one pile or the other trump ballots and one pile biden ballots in another an audit is going into that pile and finding out whether or not those ballots were administered legally whether or not the followed the law and how they were processed. What we know is that in arizona. There were tens of thousands of ballots that were potentially counted that should never have been counted.

Dissecting Fulton County Fraud With Audit Expert Heather Mullins

"We have an audit expert. Who's been doing. Phenomenal work for real america's voice. Heather mullins high going heather. Thank you for joining us today. And thank you for the great work that you are doing. let's start with georgia and the audits. You've been doing a of work for real america's voice as an investigative reporter. Tell us what is the status of finding out what actually happened in the two thousand twenty election in the state of georgia charlie. There's actually quite a few investigations going on in georgia. The one most recently that i covered this week was A lawsuit filed by a group called voter. Gpa they're an election integrity group. That's been working in the state for over twenty years They filed the lawsuit. Too much unseal. And forensically analyze the absentee and mail in ballots in fulton. County georgia specifically. It's the exact same ballots that we saw in that state farm arena video that went viral of people scanning and ballots that they pulled out from underneath that people at one o'clock in the morning after observers were sent home well. Those ballots are the ones in question in this lawsuit and a judge so far have actually already unsealed then and what the the plaintiffs were given where the digital ballot images so every time a ballot is scanned in the voting machine Creates a digital and that is stored so they had access to those unfortunately in the resolution on images such poor quality that the forensic expert asked for a higher resolution and so where this case was a couple months ago was the judge had actually ordered that the town officials had to rescan those ballots at a higher resolution and hand them the images because georgia's secretary of state fouls degrees in his lawsuit claiming that it's anybody touch those ballots. It'd be felony. Charlie almost to try to like stop the audit from going forward and so this judges like all right. We'll working we're gonna take these people that can legally handle those ballots and we're gonna make them re skin them at a higher resolution so this case went back to court on monday and the attorney representing fulton. County is gonna georgia's talk criminal. Defense attorney is a guy named don samuel who tiny white collar criminal defense course at georgia university but then thinking right so he started saying that. The georgia bureau of investigation. The secretary of state office had already done an investigation and and there was no fraud like nothing was found and was basically trying to say you know grant my motion to dismiss this case. Will the judge said. Can you cite the report. Is anybody in this courtroom. Have any report from the secretary of state office. The georgia bureau investigation on anything. They've done that pertains to essentially counterfeit balance. Nobody had any answer. So the judge pause this lawsuit and is giving the secretary's day gb. I twenty days to basically bring them up to speed if they've done anything and if not i mean we go back to court on november fifteen the judge then move forward to continue until about

Left-Wing Liberal Media Claims No Fraud in California Recall Election: How Would They Know Yet?

"We talk about the left getting a huge assist from the mainstream media. We'll give you an example. Access is inside the beltway. Online site mike. Allen is a guy headline this morning. Big lie hits the california recall election the big lie a falsehood peddled by donald trump. Says the article that the twenty twenty election was stolen quote unquote his now. Being peddled by conservative figures amid other down ballot elections most notably the california recall election. Why it matters. That's one of their catchphrases over at axios. Why it matters now that the president has been set. Some conservatives will likely use unfounded allegations of election fraud as a basis for undermining all potential election outcomes. They don't agree with and then the article goes on to say the classic of classics to be clear. There's been no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the california recall election. How today it isn't over yet. It's election day. How would they know that. There's no evidence of widespread election fraud when the election is over there in the process of i mean this is what i mean

"For the twenty twenty election is shifting and read Wilson of the hill is on the trail with a fascinating new column that saying forget the pundits we need to pay attention to changing demographics and political alignments if we want to understand the battleground explain read Democrats don't even have a nominee so what are you learning about how states are drawing the battle lines well it looks like the traditional battle grounds that Americans sort of political class has paid attention to for the last twenty years may not be the battleground in which the twenty twenty races that fought you know Ohio has always been at the center of the American political program well it's not really it's becoming a much more conservative state now and therefore Democrats Republicans look elsewhere on their path back to the two hundred and seventy votes that they need to win back the White House there are emerging opportunities in states like Arizona North Carolina even Texas and Georgia pretty traditionally Republican states where Democrats are gonna try to build their numbers on the Republican side Republicans are gonna find opportunities in states like Minnesota which haven't voted Republican since nineteen seventy two and states like New Hampshire which Republicans in storage at the bushes for you Sam merging opportunities what are these opportunities and what does it mean when you think about the rise of a younger generation of voters millennials generations see who might be more liberal voters yeah one thing that we know is that Americans are excited about next year's elections old Democrat Republican men women everybody is keyed in tuned into this race at levels that I'm an approach you know pre election levels from twenty twelve for your two thousand eight so a ton of people are going to vote we've seen the election results in twenty nineteen and twenty eighteen and younger voters turned out at disproportionately higher levels than they ever have before and it's likely that they boil generations and generations combined are going to be a larger portion of the electorate then the baby boomers that's the first time that that that will that will be able to say that the baby boomers are now less than thirty percent of the electorate down from a high of about forty percent to twenty years ago meanwhile Gen Z. and the bundles are approaching that forty percent number so this is this younger generation is really going to assert itself and I think that's why we're seeing states like Arizona and Georgia and Texas come into play for Democrats there it simply a lot of those younger millennial ingen boaters in those states and if the Democrats make a concerted effort to turn them out to the polls well that's good because a lot of gaps that Hillary Clinton faced back in twenty sixteen you're a reporter not a political strategist but if you had to tell the candidates what to do when it came to the campaign trail what would you suggest well I think that both sides have an opportunity to grow their electoral base here president trump came within forty five thousand votes of winning Minnesota back in twenty sixteen and again no Republican since Richard Nixon has won that state so expect the trump campaign to spend a lot of time paying attention of Minnesota's votes and to Hampshire votes to older states that are disproportionately white gold plated which we sort of plays into the face that he's been able to expand for Democrats they need to look south they need to look for the Sunbelt states that they may have ignored in the past the two thousand eighteen midterm elections federal work almost won a Senate race in Texas hi Hillary Clinton came closer to winning Texas then she did Ohio that tells me that the emerging opportunities for Democrats in places where the weather is really nice on the trail is read Wilson's new reported column always appreciate talking to read thank you com all afternoon news on Cologne is for what it's worth I'm sherry Preston it is one of the traditions of the season finding that perfect Christmas tree and if you're unwilling to find a tree out in the wild well you'll be on the bad side of Clark was Walter satisfied was strongly jet over priced three that I have no special and almost certainly more expensive than in years past around the country supplies are a bit tighter thanks the number of growers shrinking and taller trees are definitely in shorter supply so like Charlie Brown you may need to be satisfied with something a little smaller we only get great last year the average price for a tree up three box is seventy eight dollars the salvation army getting enough money in one bell ringers bucket for about twenty trees all in a single point somebody dropped in in "With the twenty twenty election on the horizon social media is still considered a crucial tool for candidates and journalists during the campaigns but as we hopefully learns from the last election and all the months since then box and fake accounts are flooding the social media's own to amplify false information or create division and discord the Lieberman's there is a professor of informatics and computer science at Indiana University he estimates that around ten to fifteen percent of accounts on Twitter are fake despite the company's efforts to shut them down and those accounts have a big impact on what we think is true believer thanks for being here my pleasure so let's just get super specific I mean how big a problem is that considering that so many journalists use Twitter so many political candidates are using Twitter to see how their messages are resonating we believe that it is an important problem because the platforms and we the users of the social media platforms are vulnerable to manipulation those could have real world implications for example on you know when we go to vote but it's hard to prove that causal chain of events we do know however that box can be used effectively to manipulate what information we are exposed to online and to make it look like certain things are trending and to generate the appearance that some people are some ideas are particularly popular and that can also treat journalists because if they then think that this is what people are talking about then they can cover it and that generates a second wave of attention and then tell me why it's so hard to solve this problem to even detect these spots let alone get rid of them yeah it is a very difficult problem first of all platforms are inundated with these kinds of abuse so even if you have a very good machine learning other than that the tax the great majority of them even missing just a few that will still have you know millions many millions of potentially fake accounts and many of them I use humans to actually generate the content so that you can not too easy to spot patterns of box and then finally the platforms can pay huge price for suspending account because even if it was using for abuse it is hard to prove the person who was using those bots can then say look I'm a human I posted these things myself and it is very difficult to prove otherwise how many followers does a bot need before it can have a significant impact on our online conversations we've tried to explore that question by building a model that simulates a social media network so we actually measure the amount of damage that box can do in such a network and it seems that when roughly around one percent of soul of the of the humans follow up on then there is a very big transition from a situation in which the bots have not so much of an effect to a situation in which they have a huge effect so if I want to target a particular community for example people who are vulnerable to conspiracy theories then I can create a bunch of bots that for a while just between ten mention people in this community and they follow them and then they get followed and after a while they can become integral part of that community and at that point they can basically control it well and there's an effort now a line California and had a discussion about maybe federal efforts to sort of force bots to identify themselves when they're interacting with people especially around political messaging what are the complications around that solution I believe that that seems like a very reasonable thing but there are those who argue that this is an infringement on first amendment that bought somehow have free speech rights the idea is that there's somebody behind those bots and those people should not be limited in in what they say on the other hand of the spectrum their opinions including mine that say that if you don't impose any payments on that kind of speech Dan you are allowing people to suppress other people's speech because I can create thousands of fake accounts and just by flooding the network with junk I can basically keep other people who are real humans from being heard Philly bonus there is professor of informatics in computer science at Indiana University thanks so much for the time thank you very much for.

"For the twenty twenty election with an attack on the incumbent. A coward. We deserve. A president is brave who will walk through fire to do. What is right Kirstin? Gillibrand next time on the New Yorker radio Monday nights at nine on eighty nine point three KPCC. I spoke with my colleague, Paul Mozer who reports from China. What's the level of comfort that you find? When you talk to people about this kind of surveillance in China. You kind of learn in China, not to push certain questions, you have to far because if you push a question too far the answer gets dangerous, and maybe put you on the other side of the line that thirties have drawn. But then, you know, with some of the more educated people or or the middle class the upper class, you do get concerns, and there have been CEO's who've come out and said, we can't do anything anymore without being followed in China. It's too much. So you do get some response. But a lot of people who are locked in the system learn to live within that system, and they're just sort of knocking to push it too hard because if you pushed far enough, then all of a sudden, you're outside of the box, that's acceptable. And then you're on the wrong side of the surveillance. So better to not go there. I'm struck at all this happening at the same time that China is coming over power whose influences growing so much overseas. Because those things don't quite seem to be consistent. If I base seem to be very contradictory. Right. And I think they've basically prove. That wrong that you can have censorship, and you can have a closed society in some ways in a controlled society. But also have a booming tech sector. And this is the first time in probably thirty years that we've had an autocratic state alongside the United States at the cutting edge of technology. So if you think about democracies have dominated technological creation since the fall of the Berlin Wall, effectively right now China's coming along, and they're making technologies, but these technologies are suited for their purposes. And in a lot of cases, those purposes have some authoritarian component to them or some point of control to them, very intentional control. And in fact, as they've risen they've used all of this is a selling point. So think to the Beijing Olympics in two thousand eight..

"Of the twenty twenty elections the centers for disease control and prevention says the number of measles cases in the United States. This year has risen to at least six hundred ninety five as NPR's Alison Aubrey report that's the highest number since the disease was radicalized in this country nineteen years ago. There have been cases of measles in twenty two states this year, but the record high count is largely due to a few large outbreaks one in Washington state and two large outbreaks in New York. The CDC says the longer these outbreaks continue the greater the chances. That measles will again get a foothold in the US. The majority of people who get measles are unvaccinated. And the CDC's says one significant factor is misinformation about the safety of the measles. Mumps rubella vaccine the World Health Organization says there's been a three hundred percent increase in the number of measles cases, worldwide compared with two thousand eighteen the CDC says vaccination is the best way to protect against the disease.
