Bill Barnwell on NFL Week 14
"To one bill barnwell. We just watched the now. Ten and three bills beat the now eleven two steelers twenty six to fifteen and i am not certain of many things in this world anymore. But i am pretty certain. They're going to be a lot of babies named josh or in buffalo alone that people in buffalo are named. Ej drew rob tyron. We're all going to have to change their name to josh. Over the next few months bill barnwell host the bill barnwell show podcast. And you can find his indispensable. Nfl column on espn plus every monday. He's also never broken a table that we know of. They'll help me understand this. How did the buffalo bills turned things around after such a slow. Start on offense tonight. This was interesting because the slowest kinda out to these sort of exact start you would want right. I mean josh. Allen was struggling the steelers pass rush was in his face early and often does allen. Started this game seven of sixteen for thirty nine yards with an interception and a fumble alan of the gun. He's back late rush. Throws it down the left side line and it's intercepted that is a great offense was struggling on the side of the ball. It's fair to say but look like the steelers were josh allens head and maybe last year that would have been it. Josh allen never would have recovered this year is different. Josh allen is different and he has a weapon nobody can cover and the combination of allen and stefan digs took advantage of some rare mistakes and misplace. From the pittsburgh steelers allen's a hot stretch started really with the steelers tried to tackle digs on a third in three without hands which is hard. Alan took that playoff field for twenty three yards. And then he got going digs had two catches on plays. Were still defensive. Backs just fell down including a touchdown and now made one great throw against to coverage for a touchdown. Pass to gabriel davis. Cox's arm fires into the renzo caught buffalo touchdown bills. Gabriel davis caught a thirteen yard strike. And a second throw on the run of long pass interference penalty to dos knox. It seemed like the steelers might have figured out the third year quarterback but by the second half it was pretty clear things where the other way around so looking at the steelers now bill. I am curious what exactly has been solved with them because this is a team that went from undefeated not so long ago to losing two in a row now to washington and buffalo so based on what. You've seen these last two weeks. How worried should pittsburgh actually big. There's reasons for legitimate concern here. I mean the defense will the problem at the end of the day they all. The bills scored nineteen points. So i'm not stressed about the defense on the whole he's had some injuries that's going to be a legitimate concern but this is still a very good defense and they are prohibitive favorites still to win the afc north. But i think even before the last two games last two losses there were concerns about this offense. The steelers came into this game ranked thirtieth in rushing offense. Dvr a football outsiders efficiency statistic but roethlisberger was twenty ninth in the league in completion percentage on de passing becoming very erratic deep passer and the stairs basically happened left with an offense but almost exclusively consists of short passes trying to the ball. Out of rothlisberger hands quickly. That's help keep him healthy. Which is great but that offense has one explosive game. Since the start in november and sunday night was not the second we saw the offense struggle in the exact same ways even though they got james conner. They're starting running back back in the lineup. They lost multiple starting offensive linemen to run the seventeen times for forty seven yards. And we're at. The speaker tried to throw deep. He was one of five for nineteen yards with a touchdown and pick now. It's possible the steelers are tired after basically going fourteen weeks without a real by they've had their to buy weeks of course basically taken away due to covert concerns. Remember the one saving grace all year for the steelers. That's they were going. Undefeated was the possibility of getting that week off asks the number one seed in the afc. Now they fall fallen behind the chiefs with bosses in their past two games. The upshot only gives steelers in eight percent. Chance of coming away with the number one seed in the conference talked about last week. That's the only way to get a buy in the playoffs. At this point the stakes happened raised for the steelers. I'm not sure whether they're up to the challenge and it feels like it is only clear that the measuring stick against which all contenders are evaluated has to be kansas city and the chiefs spill. They seem to find themselves in some amount of danger on sunday. Only to escape narrowly against the dolphins and their young quarterback to and tug of lois. Oh after watching. Patrick mahomes ultimately win this game. Thirty three to twenty seven. How did miami put this biggest scare into the now twelve in one chiefs so i will. They did something that nobody has been able to do to the chiefs all season. That's forced takeaways. Patrick mahomes hasn't made any spectacular plays. Maybe this year. Has he did during that. Mvp season his first. Starting your twenty eighteen. But they've been really effective at avoiding. Take ways they haven't had one takeaway in any one given game until the dolphins game against the dolphins homes through to early interceptions to help the dolphins get out to attend. Nothing lead back to throw my extra fake look and dumped it down. Intercepted ball picked second interception up the day of patrick mahomes and while the chiefs runoff thirty consecutive points to go ahead. The dolphins strip mccall hardin inside the red zone to stop possession the second half and then saving howard picked off mahomes in the end zone for kansas city's fourth turnover of the game. Now i don't know if that's a sustainable formula for opposing team's doing from one turnover as a maximum to four. But they were able to get back into the game and the chiefs a genuine battle by forcing those takeaways from an offense. That just hasn't done that. Really aussies

"Got a few minutes with the Bengals head coach Zach Taylor looking ahead to buffalo but first a look back a little bit and coach after a game one you made the point the other for these guys this is to paraphrase of these guys continue to play like this are going to win a lot of football games and it seems like in game two they didn't play with the same level of intensity the same aggressiveness did you see it that way. yeah I was a part of a group that we had a good week of practice and we rented bill on that first which performance but that's not what happened and so we just got a kind of focus to buffalo and be ready to read on this week yeah only made the point that the to sit down to watch the film together as a team what did the film tell you when all was said and done. we just want to show the guys how close we are you know just what mistakes and we will not cover the details that we we had seen such a good job of the week before and so you know we just as a team gotta get a take out of the report and make corrections that we saw on tape and I'll be ready for the better forms this weekend did you see on tape what could be done to improve the running game well the running game gets a lot of fans and stopping the run defense but looking more toward offense I think there were I think last week what was it fifteen touches for twenty three yards or something. yeah yeah we get we get a suction or social program first second down and and we are to me first the team's second twenties and that's hard to do not run game so which got a better job stand has the sticks and under the fence which could be a little more discipline with our fits into the job get us back to my room that's what's up to buffalo for my money or the most obnoxious.

"Well, I told you about the Jani Hecker fake punt completion play that is the best play from scrimmage. The Rams run. So far here today. They did convert a couple of first downs alone. No, you Trump plays in that drive. It did stall. And they had to settle for a thirty six yard Greg sherline field goal. So at nine minutes and change to go in the second quarter saints up thirteen to three after the kick off their back their own twenty three yard line looking at a second and eight right now, but the saints up by ten points thirteen three in the NFC championship game. We're going to zero in on the AFC championship game for a couple of minutes here. A couple hours from now. It'll get underway. At Arrowhead stadium between the chiefs and the patriots here to give Kansas City, slanted point of view is can't city stars chief reported Lynn wordy joins us here on CBS sports radio. What's like there? Lynn. A little bit of a breeze out here. But I mean, none of that the Arctic blast up there were talking about three game earlier in the week. You know in the mid twenties. I think when I arrived, and there's wind blowing, but it's not the not the frigid type of situation they were talking about. Okay. So it's a if it's a factor. It's going to be a minor one Padma homes. Look pretty good. It was a little chilly there last week as well apparently every dips down if it does get called the wind blows up a little bit. Mahomes up to the challenge. Yeah. Definitely. I mean, everything we've seen so far this season would lead you to believe he's up to the challenge. I mean, we know obviously, Tom Brady's showing it over to the two decades. Now, he's up to the challenge. But yeah, yeah, Mahomes. I don't think there's going to be whether it's going to be a factor for him. When you've got an arm like that, I mean shoot Heathrow through a snowstorm. I think. Before the season started. I said I can't pick the chiefs to win the division because I don't know what Patrick Mahomes is gonna be. I said there's a chance he could hit the ground running be one of the best quarterbacks right off the bat. Knee NFL. I don't even know if back mom senior knew he was going to be this good year. Number two. I or there could be massive growing pains in Kansas City. Certainly it's been more the former than the latter and a years had a phenomenal year potentially an MVP type season. When did you know that day Kansas City made the right move here out Smith nice quarterback? I helped us get in the playoffs. Didn't get us near a Super Bowl. Chiefs. Did the right thing they got their beast right here at QB. Well, I was you know, I I expect convention the season that it would take him some time to of get around to get full command to the offense really get comfortable. I mean, he'd had one pro start, you know, his entire life before this. Started. So I figured it would take some time. And then he starts fast as he does out there in Carson California against the chargers on the road. And then the second game. Steelers on the road. And then it was, you know, by the time you got through those. It was basically I was sold. I mean, he had ten touchdowns with the first two games. And I mean, they were no they weren't just thrown the guys who are wide open. They weren't just you know, blown coverages mean this kid was. Decisive people making no elites rose. He was. He was spreading the ball around. He had getting everybody involved in this kid was something else. And you could tell probably within the first couple of games that this wasn't just some rookie was not be find his way or some, you know, basically rookie who you're going to have to try and get his feet under him for the first half of the season. I mean, he use your term. He definitely did hit the ground running. Now, you're random every single day. I've seen some national interviews of them. I remember watching them play at Texas Tech guy actually interviewed his dad, but I'd never interviewed him before. And he always came off as a confident individual to me, but you're random every single day his play exudes confidence. Shoot is play exudes cocky to me. But when you're if you're gonna walk the walk you get to talk to talk to. How confident a young man is he? I don't know if I'd go as far as cocky, but I could see where you're what you're talking about. Just by the way, he plays. I think it's definitely confidence. But I think it's just also the fact that he seems like he's always having fun out there. I mean, he's he's having fun on the field. He's having fun with teammates. Just one of those guys that you know, he knows obviously, he's got talent. But he doesn't think he ever gets too hard to low that no not those things that I I wonder if there's some of that comes from the baseball background just to you know, whether he's had a good half or he's had a bad half. Like he did the first time against the patriots. Whether they want other lost sorta seems to have a similar type of approach to things. But yeah, he's he's definitely constant. And I also think that company isn't just the confidence is just him. I think it's because of the guys that he has around him. And he's he knows that you know, he does have to do too much to be able to make big plays. When you got know tyreek hill is probably the fast guy, the NFL when you got you know, one of the best pass catching tight ends in the game today if not the best in in Kelsey. So I think that confidence isn't just the confidence in themselves. Are the extent of the guys? He's got around him. Let me ask you about that because on any football team specifically in the NFL in two thousand eighteen and going forward you need the quarterback to be the leader of the football team. It's become such passing league. Your quarterback has to be your guy was it that from the opening camp. Did he need to do it? Not I do games like again for you for his teammates. When did he become the, man? In Kansas City's locker. Well, you know, I think based going back and thinking about some of the things the guy said, I think it really was by the start of the season the guys who believed in him already. I mean, some of us still hadn't really seen it or weren't sure about it. But I mean, I remember which game was there's a game early in the season where somebody tried to get a little get a little extra curricular there after the whistle with Pat guys rushed over to like know getting getting the way of that. And then I'll let them know that was not fly and afterwards he asked about and I remember somebody. I think might even been Chelsea saying something about you know, you can't let people do that here leader. And this was early in the season just thinking, he's already, you know. And it was just a matter of fact, like he's already become the leader of that team. And you go back to what guys were saying about him and camp because while we hadn't seen them. They'd seen him last year in practice in the off season OTA's all that sort of stuff they bought in. I think fairly early into what he can do what he could be. And and we're ready to follow him. By the time the season started. We're talking to Lynn wordy from the Kansas City star on the chiefs and the patriots matchup today. I stick with the offense ROY jump over today. They had the loss in season cream aunt. Basically took himself off the team at least for very reasonable reasons. He left the whole you knew that they were going to be someone that needed step up and fill it. They didn't have anybody on the rise. Do plays the game the same way. The Don does, but they had some good solid backup running backs one is made himself demand in Kansas City. That's Damian Williams going for a hundred yards twice in the last three games. Seattle next. Oh last week of the season and then last week hundred and twenty nine against the colts. How have the chiefs changed the running game? If it all to better fit, Damian Williams and his style of running or they just said, listen our offense is our offense. You can just need to do what you need to do and fill in the role. Have they kept the same and Williams began to fit like a glove. Yeah. I think is kept most of the things the same. I mean, I think the difference is more. So just effective Kareem is just an explosive player. He could he could turn, you know, run into a big big play just because it's physical his, you know, he's out there hurting people and you can do the same time on screen passes. Shoveled passes. We've seen him do seen that that earlier this season. I think the one thing that's changed probably the the downfield routes. I mean, he especially against the patriots. He seemed to have those big plays running pass routes downfield. Touchdown play, you know, last year going back to that scene. Open and this year in in Foxborough yet a sixty seven yard touchdown catch on the play downfield. So I think the changes been just a matter of, you know, just two different running styles. But really, it's not I don't think it's really been a big play calling change or anything like that. Let flip side of the ball. I've been saying is Tommy view agree or disagree. You got any kids are happening or Jody you whistling out your ear hall. I think the chiefs need to go over aggressive on defense today specifically outside on the patriot wide receivers. I would not let Tom Brady Brady surgically pick me apart underneath the way that he did the charges last week. And that make them throw the football downfield do the chiefs have enough confidence in their DB's to get up and play press coverage against the patriot wideouts. They do. I think it's I don't know if they're going to do it for all four quarters. I think they're more of a defense that he's going to switch things up. I mean, they will play more Mandaeans zone. I think depending on you know, down situations stuff like that, they'll they'll definitely press. It just don't think it's going to be a, you know, every snap sort of thing. I think what they really want to do is make sure that they mix things up. Not just because you know, the try and protect the DVD's. I think they want to mix things up to try and make Brady hold it that extra second because he gets the ball out so quick and for team. That's gotta pass rush. Like this tied for the league lead and Saxon regular season. You know, Andrew luck three times last week. When could only been sacked eighteen times in seventeen games, say offhand. I think what they wanna do is make Brady have to take that extra second to, you know, recognize what they're doing coverage wise to let guys like just Houston d four Chris Jones Allen daily be able to get to Brady and try and give that pressure up the middle and make him move off. Just. So you get more could be more effective that trying to keep it under rats and not letting Brady no pre snap with. They're playing would give them a better chance to rush him than actually getting up taking the wide receivers off their roots and making them go five-step drop rather than to Blumenau, you think that the the underhandedness is actually more the key than the aggressiveness. Yeah. I think the you can't let him know when he comes to the line of scrimmage did. He's gonna see this certain type of thing every time. You just can't do it in Bob Sutton. I think that can score news spoke to 'cause he's a he's been a lot of time. You spent twelve Steve may suggest obviously not always a coordinator. But part of that time as a coordinator, and so that factors into because you know, he they had a couple of years where they answer those amoeba type defense is where you just don't let him know what he's looking at before this now because if you do this pretty much over. So I don't know if they go that far with the whole amoeba saying this guy's on the move up until the snap..

"Or that like, you're dying to talk about my big takeaway was where was C J Anderson all year the due to the Pro Bowl running back. He was grave in Denver. And nobody would sign him the whole season. All of a sudden he comes out here with the Rams and he puts up one hundred twenty three yards. Yeah. It was pretty amazing. I mean, he's looked really good the cuts. He was making. We're really decisive. He was hitting the whole hard. Now. We'll see if you can bounce back with that dad, bud. I'm not quite sure he'll be ready until next season. Again. It was really impressive. What he was doing jiggling. All the way down the field running guys over given Todd Gurley the spells he needs. But Dallas defense where were they I can't figure out everybody wanted to talk about how great Dallas defense was. But I think the reason partly Dallas defense is good because how fast they play. And when they're on that turf they fly around they play great zone coverage. They play up front fast. They run a lot. Stunts and twists and they move their defensive line. And they get after the quarterback all of a sudden you put them on grass there different team because they can't use their hustle and their speed to their advantage. Like, they do when they're at home. They're in the turf when they went down into Orleans, and they whipped the saints butts which made everybody huge Cowboys believers and saints haters, but they're just an average defense when you put them on grass. Listen watching these four games. And obviously, we'll talk about the patriots charges and saints eagles in a minute. But the thing that stood out to me and typically don't care about these people because I don't think there's room for them in the game of football. But the thing that stood out stuck out to me was out the teams that were on a by their lineman were very very rested. And you see what a week of rest does for an office of line because they were dominant in like all more games all four teams that had by weeks there align, and even there deland, they kind of control the line of scrimmage, and again, I don't think Lyman have applied. In football. Our game doesn't need it. So I'm like, but I had to point out that listen these guys were the catalyst for these teams advancing to the title game. And that showed up in the Rams game. They control the opposite live. They ran to running backs over one hundred yards. Ezekiel Elliott only had I think forty seven yards on twenty carries which is kind of pedestrian and not what we expected from the league rushing leader. But the Rams me other hand in Sean McVay does an incredible job of marrying his running game and his passing game that whole kind of Shanahan offense that McVay runs and all those guys. That's why there's such hot commodities in the league is because they take all the thinking out for the players. It's like the easiest offense to like it's hard to learn. But once you learn it players wreaked the benefits big time because you can just go out there pin airbags and play. It's just running. It's doing exactly what you're told in executing the practice that you've done it takes a while for it to be installed..

"See store for details. Arts. Sanchez the Puerto Rico holder is the snap all down all the way. And that would it hits the left up. Terry banks off the left upright twenty three yards out at the colts are denied going into the locker room. It's a football feeding frenzy after hours with Amy Lawrence. This was probably the moment that I I just I couldn't get over from divisional weekend. This is crazy. The Indianapolis Colts who lost to the chiefs. And then they were dominated in the first quarter for this fantastic start by Pat, Mahomes, and Andy Reid and the chiefs inside Arrowhead stadium. But the moment that stuck with me. Adam beaded Terry missing a field goal off the upright at half from twenty three yards twenty three yards. Do you know that was the shortest myth? Of his career. Ryan Radke with the call. We don't very often put missed field goals on the radio. But this was significant Westwood One radio for Ryan. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. I don't know how many of you were following football, Twitter or football social media when that happened. But if I did dollar for every time I saw a tweet or post about how Adam beaded Terry is done. I mean guys missed field goals if he decides to retire. It'll be because he's what forty four years old now not because he can't kick anymore. But it certainly wasn't a great night for him. It wasn't a great night for a lot of the members of the colts. But the fact that there was this overreaction on social media about how Vena Terry must be done because he missed a twenty three yard field goal. Yeah. I mean, I bet at sixty years old. He's still going to be able to kick twenty three yard field goals. He also missed an extra point. So it's one of those days that he would like to forget again, it was one of those days that a lot of the colts would like to forget in the first quarter alone. Kansas City had a hundred and eighty five to twelve yard advantage in terms of their total production one hundred eighty five yards to twelve and you add tyreek hill and traffic. You had Pat Mahomes delivering on the money. You had Arrowhead stadium whipped into. A frenzy. Now, we did end up with a little bit of hope there in the first half because the colts blocked a punt by nausea. Good. That was a pretty cool moment for Indianapolis. And it was recovered for a touchdown by Zach PASCAL. So that was about midway through the second quarter. And at that point, they're they're sticking her as much as they can they're sticking around and there only down by ten points. But then Kansas City get those points back right away. There's a late touchdown drive before the half Mahomes makes this incredible dash and stretches over the pylon. So at the break is twenty four to seven and while that's not completely out of the row of possibility. The fact that it was so lopsided. And the chiefs were essentially able to do whatever they wanted. There was a moment of sequence in the third quarter where the rookie Darius Leonard who led the NFL and tackles this year forces a fumble on Sammy Watkins, and then very next possession. Andrew luck fumbles at back, and you thought okay, that's kinda how this is going for the Indianapolis Colts. But congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs because they dominated the Rhine. How often have we said that about the colts lately, the colts have been controlling the line of scrimmage and that offense of lot has been fantastic. Remember so few sacks for Andrew lock all year. But this time maybe because they had fresh legs. Maybe because they had the week off. There were one hundred eighty rushing yards for the chiefs and four rushing touchdowns. Pat, Mahomes did get sacked four times. So the chiefs did give up pressure on him though. He has that greatest capability that offense of light in front of it. And it's not been great. For a good portion of the year in terms of its past production, but he was twenty seven and forty one for two hundred seventy eight yards. The chiefs dominated time of possession again that ball control game. Nearly forty minutes with the ball only twenty minutes for Andrew luck and the colts and Kansas City earns its first home playoff win since the nineteen Ninety-three season. So early nineteen Ninety-four was when they were in the postseason how about that twenty five years for the chiefs inbetween home playoff wins. And only their second playoff win overall since then it's all about that twenty five years for Kansas City. I know they've been around and they've been around and they've been around, but it's been a lot of postseason futility first home playoff win in a quarter century only their second playoff win overall since nineteen Ninety-three her defense stepped up and just did a heck of a job. I guess what? I think is a good offense. A great quarterback receivers tight ends a running back. It's been on fire. So. I thought they did a very nice job offense. Started fast dry spell that. We finish it off in the end. So it's a great team win. We gotta get opportunity to play here again next week. So we're excited for that opportunity. Several homes for Andy Reid for the Kansas City Chiefs, they've gone through some transition of their own Sammy Watkins was back on the field. That was huge. What you know the last time they played the New England Patriots. They had Kareem hunt. So it's not the same team. The venue will be different from that match up on a Sunday night. That was the final forty three to forty. Remember? It was nearly a thousand yards of total offense between the patriots and the chiefs. It's after hours with Amy Lawrence on CBS sports radio. Congratulations to Frank Reich. I head coaching gig to Andrew luck who I believe will be NFL comeback player of the year to all of the young colts. After starting one and five they settled down. They believed what their coach was selling. They were buying what he was selling. And as much as this is not the way that they wanted it to end the fact is there's something special in Indianapolis. Now, you can never. Catch your success and stuff it into a bottle and save it until the following season. It's hard to replicate. But they've got all the pieces in place for what they wanna do moving forward. And they got a bunch of young guys and their quarterback. He's back. Rewarding season in many ways. And this is not the ended anybody in that locker wanted myself included. We wanted to go wanna know this week. Continue on this journey felt like felt like we had to stop felt like a lot a lot of juice flown with the team. A lot of momentum. A good things going on obviously playing a lot of good football and came into a tough environment against a very good team. And just did not get it done. So Frank Reich one successful year under his belt getting to the postseason. Remember they had a play in game week seventeen Sunday night after starting one in five just the third team in history ever to do that. But what about Adam unitary? He was of course, asked about his future. Now again, I think it's heightened it would have been asked anyway. But heightened by the fact that he missed the shortest field goal of his entire career. Listen, I love playing football. I love being in the locker room like with these guys and stuff. So can't imagine doing anything else. But like anybody we're gonna sit back and just decompress a little bit and see what ghostly. Okay. So is totally off by two years. The guys forty six. He's forty six years old if he wants to retire right now dR did he can. Still loves it. And he's still the locker room and his kids are now dancing in the locker room. How about that? Adam be Terry just turned forty six three weeks ago. You know, what he started his career think about this? Hey, Chris, what were you doing in nineteen ninety five? Watching. Do you? Remember what you were doing in nineteen ninety five Dave. I was probably like fourth. Do you guys right now in the NFL that weren't even born in nineteen ninety-five for God's sakes? Remember we talked about how Lamar Jackson is the youngest ever to start a game at quarterback. This is awesome. He he got married in two thousand one he started his career in nineteen ninety-five. He was born in nineteen seventy two good for you out of being Terry. You know, what if you wanna retire? You're already the all time leading scorer in NFL history. You go out whatever the heck you want to go out. But I do like seeing him kick every week. And I do love the dancing in the locker room and his belly hanging out. It's kind of fun. The there because he's forty six. You don't care when you're forty six. You can do whatever you want. What your forty six and he's the old man on the mountain. So I don't know if he retires. But I hope he doesn't it's after hours with Amy Lawrence on Facebook on Twitter, a law radio getting your tweets and your posts about the most impressive. The most the most impossible to ignore statement of the weekend in the divisional round of the playoffs. And your calls are next eight five five two one two four thousand seven. Adam Vinatieri of Indianapolis Colts misses short field goal
"Giving you the latest on the Kansas City Chiefs and the Indianapolis Colts it's been a lopsided appar. But the scoreboard might not necessarily show that when we get there. The cults are lining up for a twenty three yard field goal with three seconds. Go in the first half any all man, Adam venit Carey, I believe just doing it. It definitely was no good. I think I saw snow come off the upright. He missed it. I couldn't tell if it caught up

"I marquess show our entire ESPN radio crew producer John Medani like Ian made the trip overnight from the Pac twelve championship game to be with us here in Arlington, Keith Parsons are statistician Charles spotter. Mike hurdle. Our engineer this afternoon. So Oklahoma down seven zip dusty making the drive you're coming out of this time out. I know we talked a lot about the passing game of Kyle Cuyler Murray and his legs but the rushing game for Oklahoma. Sometimes overlook I think the secret sauce to this offense is the offensive line. I think it's the best offensive line of college football all five guys account for all big twelve. Participants all five or play the National Football League in the toughness physicality, and the nastiness they play it opens up this entire offense their balance, they run it just as well as they throw it testify wearing those cream uniforms with a crimson helmets, Texas in the burnt orange tops today. I down and ten from the twenty two of Texas play action Ron Murray losing his balance down loss. Yard to the twenty three yard line. Jerry Johnson linebacker with the stop. It'll be second down eleven but they wanted to go quarterback counter. They pool the guard true semi around trying to get to the near edge. There was an outstanding job by Gary Dotson scraping over the top and making a play in the open field on Tyler Murray. Gary Johnson dynamic player for this Texas defense plays with great speed all over the field phrase sermon and the fullback Carson Meyer both in the backfield. Kyla Murray may be changing the play here is he went up to the line from right to left and now gets back in the gun from the twenty three second down in eleven o'clock at seven two receivers left one to the right awaiting a shotgun snap. Here comes the four man rushes to keep the sermon. Looking for a whole right side finds it able to start across to the nineteen yard line of Oklahoma Jeffrey McCullough, the tackle a four yard gain. So third down and seven coming. This'll be interesting 'cause we talk with Todd Orlando yesterday how to deal with Colliver at third down. He said he wanted to pressure me get the. A bottle of his hand. There's the staff to Murray play action Tyler looking downfield. Plenty of time for land and away picked off. Touchback picked off right by cadence Stearns, Chris boy might be in trouble. Vega defensive holding on Chris boy, he's not happy about it down there from six yard and saw the tip by Brandon Jones, and then Stearns had to go down low look like he made the reception, but you're right with the officials meeting at the line of scrimmage as we go downstairs to infant Simmons. Jazz turns came up with that pick. I mean that was a clean. I n t but the flag is going to be going against longhorns. Personal foul mass. Number two. For the goal from thought not a matter or found was Chris boy to write us, the oh just a catastrophic mistake by Kris Boyd his second personal foul. Facemask penalty of the game. Go back to the players and outstanding job by the safety. Brandon Jones because collar Murray he had CD lamb open in the end zone. And in Brandon Jones comes in breaks on the football with his left hand and cage Stearns Johnny on the spot makes a nice play. But it's all for not with the facemask. Chris boy penalty wipes out what would have been a tremendous in the end zone with an offense that has averaging fifty points per game and over their last eight games they've scored at least forty five points. And been averaging over fifty three points a game. Here's Reggie Smith r reversal previous play was an interception. The previous play is under further review. All right. Well, here's what they're going to review because we were waiting to see if there was the official on cadence turns. He was juggling that ball is. He was trying to come up with it on his shoot tops. But that and the penalty against the quarterback. We'll see how that affects this call. Here's the question was the I mean, I'm guessing was the facemask potentially after there was a change of possession. Because if that's the case in no, we're looking at it right here. The facemask came before the pass was even thrown Kris Boyd gets tangled up with marquees Brown and kind of swings into the ground. Which drew the flag didn't pass comes. Then the interception happens. So I I really don't know what the and maybe they're going to check and see when the facemask actually happened was it before or after changing a possession Lincoln Riley, the head coach of Oklahoma a little bit animated on that far Sooners sideline. Well, we got to look at the replay. It was intercepted. It was yellow gold but cleanly intercepted by cadence turns. And then the flag. Roy on the Bill fans. It's first down. By the way. Cadence turns what an excellent season that true. Freshman first team all big twelve smart athletic leads his team in interceptions. Been really impressed. Watching the tape of the true freshman cadence sturgeon he has been a force in the beginning of the season, very pressing young player. Eight fifty one to go. First quarter, seven nothing, Texas leading Oklahoma just underway at the big twelve championship game at AT and T stadium. The home of the Dallas Cowboys will be first and goal from the nine yard line for Oklahoma. After that Kris Boyd facemasks wiped out interception. It's a play accident look into path with plenty of time Murray directing traffic throws back end zone and complete as grant Calcaterra in the back of the endzone EPO. Went over his head to highly thrown. Greg Gary Johnson and cadence turns and cover was excellent coverage down the field for Texas. They wanted to throw it to the sidelines. Just a quick flat. Route to markets Brown is well covered by the Nickelback p. Jay locked problem for Texas as they have not generated any pressure whatsoever on Kyla Murray. He had all day to sit back there and have a sandwich. But nobody was opened as he throws it over intended target grant Calcaterra Jeremiah hall Carson marble fullbacks in the game. Trae sermon to the right of Murray. Takes the snap on second and goal from the nine give to Murray. Cuts up the middle five still on his feet breaks a tackle extends toward the goal line. And they'll say down at the one and eight yard pickup. But it'll be third and goal from the one for Oklahoma the bread and butter rug play Oklahoma likes to do the counterplay. They pull the backside guard and tackle patches a tough physical Ron by trae servant. He looks healthy as he fought his way. Nice cutback. He gets hit about the forty fights his way all the way to the one yard line. Jeremiah hall and Carson Meyer, the fullbacks on the left side of the line. Trae sermon offset to the right behind Tyler Murray. Third and goal from the one Murray, Scott Gibbs backpedaling taken down his trae sermon, Texas. Holding and go from the law. Anthony Wheeler and Gary Johnson with a stop loss of to play by Gary Johnson. It looked like initially Texas wasn't even lined up. They weren't ready to go. Gary Johnson fills a hope comes downhill right now. And he hits trae sermon to yards in the backfield. You stop for the Texas longhorns. Gary Johnson with a couple of tackles for loss on that opening possession. Both these teams both coaches told us you're not gonna win the game. With field goals, we expect to see a lot of fourth but they're kicking a field goal here. Twenty Artor pretty surprised by this. I'm surprised Lincoln didn't go for six Seibert out. There's a place now kick up and it's right down the middle and a chip shot field goal for Austin cyber that he'll go brought to you by AllState. Allstate knows that football season. Is mayhem demand reminding fans that if mayhem can show up on game day, imagine what can happen the rest of the week? So get better protected with AllState, so great job by Texas on the offensive end. Converting third downs and getting the early touchdown and on defense near interception wiped out by penalty. And then the goal line stop on third down holding Oklahoma to fill that's a massive win. All right. I mean, as you just mentioned, I mean, they gotta stop actually created a turnover, but it was a bad penalty that threw that away. But to still be able to come back bow your back and get a stop.

"Played football eighty yards to fifty four the title possession. Thirty seven yard touchdown strike tramonte says to Daniel areas. How about that Gary you had two offsite. Potential penalties busted and get called on. They had a fumble. Loma drive recovered somehow by Josh Kaiser, and you at first time catches by Dmitry Stanley touchdown catch by Daniel areas down there. Was the heck of a way to get a touchdown at hostile environment like oil, and it was a great start for Montanez and the offensive line that the first time Stephen was flushed and had to throw back across his body. But it wasn't a dangerous throw because it was pretty deep. And there were a lot of people around it. But the second throw the areas for touchdown. What's a great throw in the areas came up with a tremendous catch on? Kickoff from right to left. It's going to be short kick this time every one come here. For twenty twenty-five McClatchy. I beg your pardon. Number six. Not number two to the twenty three yard line and the tackles on special teams as a return of twenty yards nine fourteen to plunge into the opening quarter here in Seattle. Buffalo's Ron top seven nothing. What a great start for Colorado. Twelve McClatchy or spit up paying us for last couple of years is you know, he's got a great story. But we'll get to later, but the guy that sorta counting ten twenty three yard line under center with a tidy. Either side is Jake Browning one willing back behind it. Takes through snap dropping looking left. Not a flat reaching up. This guy is tied Jones. Hey, six foot four two hundred and ten receiver Utah on the far side. He steps out at his gain of six yards. Second town in Ford out and a twenty nine yard line. Yeah. Three step drop that time Browning from under center. And he just threw a quick out to solve coverage by our corners. Second time in six wing to the right for the twenty nine yard line. Ball left hash Mark moving left to right on balance line hand off to the tailback. And but crew running to the boundary side left just shy. The numbers us all down. No gain. Great play up front defensively by the three down guys. They took away every possible gap that he could cut back into linebackers were in a position to fill. They adjusted to the unbalanced line. And we're right there. Works on the first hit. Third down four host your man through the backfield. He takes his stamp looking to his right swing it to the most man catching the thirty.

"Dicker the kicker for the fuel for the longhorns. Won for one today from forty four yards. A freshman kicker from Austin Allender going up top looking for Devon. And it's incomplete good coverage bar Parnell. Motley, Texas fans wanted interference look like good coverage to me. Bring up second and ten for Texas at the forty three. I don't know if the quarterback even sees the ball back that wasn't so different than the pass interference on the other side. Absolutely, right. I think they've got an argument that could be we'll justify things about the quarterback down here. They aren't playing. Theory result. They can't see this happening. Tied at forty five. Oklahoma has raised a twenty one fourth quarter quarter deficit against Texas Texas with the football trying to get the win of the Red River showdown over the middle crossing route to Andrew Beck halls it at reps two rounds to arms around the football. And is brought down by kids Murray just outside the thirty five at the oh, you thirty six setting up third and three for Texas who hustles the line of scrimmage ninety seconds to play. Allender calls for the snap. He's gonna run power to the left side. Glances foot lowers the shoulders and picks up a Texas Bush down to the thirty two yard line Curtis Bolton tackle a gain of four for Texas full basis for look familiar power to the left side receivers to the opposite side. Etlinger first down. Oklahoma has a player holding his leg that will stop the clock. Nibble Gallimore who's gone down a couple of times today. Making his legs. So Texas, we'll have it first and ten at the thirty two. I don't know how this works out this game could guess after the way it's gone so far, but a strong answer by Texas would have been easy to come out somewhat befuddled and flustered after allowing a twenty one point lead to disappear Oklahoma eating them up with the high powered sooner offense. But they've answered it down the field. They've benefited from a pass interference entree Norwood. Nonetheless, though, Texas has made blaze here. I think the difference is we recognize the opposite format again. Philosophical approach their pass the ball with distorted the game on what they started. The first the second half of this team is moving the ball and having success. They had earlier and they go to the powerful nation over there and running with a quarterback get a first down. Over and again, oh you recognize that power formation. First time. These two teams have both been ranked in this matchup since two thousand twelve Texas for the first time has won four straight in a season since two thousand thirteen. Entering today's contest. Oklahoma undefeated ranked number five and they talked this morning on college game day about how this first weekend in October highly ranked teams have gone down the beginning of this the last several seasons, and they said it would happen again today. Now this matchup between two top twenty five as Texas comes in ranked number twenty devil Gallimore will come off. So let's set the scene what eighteen to play tied at forty five. Oklahoma erasing, a twenty one point Texas lead. But Texas now with the ball to timeouts for the longhorns won four Oklahoma. I intend ten Texas at the thirty two and a half yard line blitz. Coming off the near side, they're not gonna get to Ellen looking for Colin Johnson along the sideline. He tried to drag the toes all the football in falling down east boozers the football out of bounds. Incomplete. Traynor would Mark Jackson goodbye on the coverage? Second in ten Tony. They need to get a little closer to make it much more comfortable. For the freshman kicker. Absolutely. Don't be surprised about this play right down the middle. I would not be surprised one bit. Down to sixty four seconds remaining in the Red River showdown, Texas and Oklahoma a slug fest. Back and forth action today. Alan Gurr, the sophomore from Austin who's been super sharp today. Keep it on a quarterback designed he's across the twenty five to the middle of the field at the twenty three yard line. But now with fifty seven seconds left. Comes up third and three for Texas. Got a game. Oklahoma uses their third time out there. Final time out. Texas will have to fifty seven seconds left. One would think it has to be a run play here. Absolutely. You can rest assured on that Lou. I I don't I don't think coterminous gonna try to outfox anybody by trying to throw the ball zone. They're looking at right now three points to win this game. They're looking at if they don't get a first down. And if they get a first down this ball down the middle on every play from here on out. We're not looking at any has Mark. We're looking at right down the middle of the field. Trying to do you guys you guys three hundred pound off to live and you get about ten or fifteen pound advantage. I want you guys to push these guys off the ball. Give me three yards up the middle right now. It would be a forty one yard field goal there about if no more yards or gained Daniel Yang. The six foot two hundred twenty five pound sophomore on the left hip Sam. Maybe we see Ellen Geer keep it again little Jordan Humphrey in the backfield as an h back. Etlinger wheel. Keep it. You'll die forward. He is going to be stopped short of the first down at about the twenty three yard line by Bolton. And so it is fourth down for Texas. The ball is going to be spotted just inside actually right on the left hand. Cameron Dicker six foot freshman from Austin, Texas. I'm sure his parents. Up here. My wife always says if our boys play football, she wants it to be a partner. She doesn't want everyone staring at the pressure on the line as a kicker probably not cut out for this. I don't know about that. I got the pressure as well. But. Without a question. A field goal kicker right now. This is a tough situation because as players we always say all you gotta do is kick the ball. Just take the ball Texas will call their second time out of the half with one on the play clock. Stopping the clock at fourteen seconds so forth and won the ball at twenty three yard line. So it'll be about a forty yard attempt on the season. The freshman is six of nine three of six from forty and beyond. But he did hit from forty four yards today. Cameron dicker. We'll be a legend or a goat in the lore of this red riot Red River showdown for the Texas longhorns. And again as mad ground woke for Mack Brown. Justin martyr. A freshman will snap it back to Ryan. Chefs get the punter freshman Cameron Dichter will kick in into the teeth of the Oklahoma fan base. Oklahoma cannot freeze the ball on the left hash. This will be a forty yard attempts to game tied at forty five with fourteen seconds to play Texas lead. It is long enough. Texas takes the lead with forty five freshmen Kamran Dicker. Forty five yards. O'hare? You'll be able to will tonight. I would bet with nine seconds ago. The odds are there. Well, if anybody's offense could come up with something in that short of a time, Oklahoma has weapons dispersed across the line of scrimmage, and as we said before he ran sixty seventy yards for a touchdown not long ago, the best quarterback, maybe in college football, certainly one of the most explosive that right here. I think without a question. Don't want to return the ball, you want that ball out to the management level. And get one play with the possibility to get the ball out of bounds. You could run a two yard round kunia route within four seconds. You could make something if you're Texas. Do you try to kick this ball and funneled them? So they have to return it. I don't know. How confident I am in our coverage. The lamb marquees Brown back. Deep to receive Cameron Dicker will kick it away. I think the big question on the coach. I think they were setting up a play marquees Brown was laying down in the end zone. We're going to try that trick. And now they're going to force him to be removed from the game. We've seen teams do that before where they lay down. And then they throw the throwback. Interesting. Instead, miles tease will come out. For some top foolery from Lincoln Riley. I didn't know you couldn't lay down. I didn't either. He was trying to blend. The end zone. There are only weren't a hundred thousand people here. I don't know why you can't nine seconds left. Texas will kick off forty five along with Bill back deep and no return. We'll take place so Oklahoma get it at their own twenty five. Seventy five yards and a chance to win the game with a touchdown and needing a long strike to have a chance to kick the field goal. They can't go down the middle because they won't have time to get the team onto the field. They can't stop the clock. If you're Texas. Just don't commit a penalty here. Absolutely. Absolutely. Beautiful. I suspect you'll see some laterals unless the ball is completed near the boundary. Kendall is inept quarterback. Murray is in the slot left. I think they want a couple of guys who can slim the football here. I'm looking to get the ball out of sideline over there. By the way, this game has gone. Texas birds a time out. In their pocket. The one thing we could be certain of is this'll be exciting. However it works out. And I'm thinking though, again, they can run a forty yard dash enforce some seconds five seconds over here. A quick pass. And then a south for the end zone, but that's pretty much the only opportunity one of these fan bases will go home, absolutely despondent through this. A lot of energy has been burned with an eleven AM kickoff. Temperatures ranging between eighty and ninety degrees, pretty humid. The heart of Texas. At the Texas State fair with the Red River showdown. This one has lived up and maybe surpass toll of the anticipation of Oklahoma will display the type of excited animosity on Amasi creativity. Energy. And they did the land in the fourth quarter could have been a different game, Texas led by twenty one with nine and a half to go. Oklahoma closed the gap Texas, then got a field goal to go up forty eight forty five nine seconds left. As KENDALL drops this happy. He's in trouble. Now he's gonna throw it near side and go out of bounds. Is the running back. Michael Jones, rather marquees Brown gonna get out of power. At the thirty one yard line that broken play used up. Six seconds KENDALL playing for the first time did not handle the snap. Woody cowl Murray. Go you wind up with a spot. I never even seen a move to seconds, three seconds left. This will likely be the final play of the game. Tyler Murray has stray serving coming in two guys will come out to the cornerback. Brechin Hager, Charles omega who two linebackers let everybody else in an umbrella Murray, find CD lamb at the twenty-seven lamb circles back to the nearside lamb. Lateral to trace sermon. Now, he'll go backwards. What lateral may have gone forward? AD Miller tries a lateral. Carey. Game is over. What game at the Cotton Bowl as Texas celebrates on the Cotton Bowl logo midfield. Wow. What a game. What a game is. Unfortunately, we had to have a loser. This game. Again is the triumph for one ball club. And I'll just leave it at that. The question all week is Texas back. That's their third win over a ranked team in their first six contests Texas wins over Oklahoma, forty eight forty five coming up some final thoughts from the state fair of Texas. You're.

It looks like Green Bay. They're still bringing pressure on the quarterback. But they're defensive secondaries staying very high over top receivers. Alan and the shotgun McCoy to his left on second and three of the twenty three Allen to throw quick pass over the Middle East has Charles clay for a first down inside the numbers to the thirty one yard line. Personal file. Eighty seven grabbing helmet opening. Automatic first down. That wasn't a penalty back in your day. No you. Both these teams though, I I have to give them credit. Both are come into this game ranked very low in terms of penalties. So this is not undisciplined teams. I think the coaching staffs do an excellent job in terms of controlling these players in their behavior. I think some of these things we're seeing right now in penalties are. Issue. First and ten from the Green Bay forty nine after the penalty for Josh Allen out of a shotgun hill throw rifles over the middle for Zeta Jones. He has it inside the thirty five of the thirty four inside of Josh Jackson. It was on coverage. A gate of fifteen and the bills are back on the ball hurrying up with under five minutes to play in the game and the Packers leading nineteen nothing. Now over one hundred yards passing finally to throw again quick out to the right? It's hauled in by Charles clay who gets right about the thirty yard line by or in Berks, the rookie out of Vanderbilt solid gain of five of the twenty nine brings up second and five with four thirty four to go. You can see a big change in the floss Fiat here that the Green Bay Packer defense has there in his own defense. They are allowing the pitching catch all the way down the field much different than what we saw earlier in the game. Allan has completed five straight passes office Dr easily his longest streak of the days now thirteen twenty nine for one hundred and twenty two yards. No touchdowns and two interceptions. Five on the play clock here. Second and five the Green Bay twenty nine Allen snaps it with one second on the play clock delayed blitz. Allen spinning out of the pocket. Alice. Face is grab no flag and an Alan somehow able to just throw it away at the fetal Shawn McCoy the twenty five yard line Germain Whitehead applied the pressure. Remember we had a sack in a similar situation earlier. I think we're seeing that organized chaos afternoon for Mike patents defense. Yeah. You know, why we saw four or five plays of insane back in zone. Then all of a sudden just switch it up completely brought pressure. I thought it was a great call it really mixed up the offense for buffalo. Totally did not anticipate that list third and five of the twenty nine buffalo three of fourteen on third down. Alan rolling out to the right cuts out. The middle alad dives inside the thirty. He'll be a couple of yards shy of the first down. Good. Al lose the football. Green Bay jumped on it. And right now, the ruling is. His Green Bay football. Kenny Clark with the head forcing it loose, and recovering. The fumble. Let's see fumble recovered by Green Bay berth down. It looks like Josh Allen down. They're going to get overturned. We saw replay look pretty clear to us at least from up here. Yeah. I did look like his knee went.

"Apply simply understand fully end. Mortgage confidently. Texas eight keeps putting the pressure on Alabama hasn't been as easy as it has for the crimson tide. And the first three weeks will go to Tuscaloosa for an update in a moment. West Virginia starting to pull away in the second quarter as they go to the half and Morgan town leading by three touchdowns on Kansas state. Clemson right now starting to open it up a bit late first-half at Georgia Tech and the route is on in Columbus and urban Meyer's return with Ohio State a big onto lane while Virginia Tech leads Old Dominion, fourteen seven Miami. Having no problem Florida international earlier Wake Forest gets crushed by Notre Dame, which seemingly has a new quarterback now. And it's going to stay that way with Ian book going twenty five of thirty four for three hundred and twenty five yards today in a couple of touchdowns in a fifty six twenty seven win. Over Wake Forest. Michigan puts up fifty six Nebraska fifty six ten the final there Purdue stuns Boston College thirty two thirteen in Georgia gets passed, Missouri. Clemson dominating over Georgia Tech. Georgia Tech has won eleven yard touchdown run. Take one Marshall has had thirty three plays from scrimmage run. Thirty one of them take on March one nineteen of those clips and set to kick the extra point if they make it they which they did they are now up twenty eight to seven over tax five seconds ago. I have mind thank you very much. Jeff for you. You I say that lovingly, of course, James Hardie in Tuscaloosa where it's been a good one in this first half between Alabama and Texas A&_M, Jeff James. Yes, it sure has Alabama hasn't twenty one to thirteen lead closing in on halftime is to buy lower on fire so far completing his fourteen passes for hundred forty eight yards and added his third total touchdown a twenty three yard touchdown tied. In HALE Hinch is to give Alabama at twenty one to ten late, but Tatum drove back down to dot in the Alabama Redstone but stalled on their drive head to get a thirty two yard field goal as Alabama has a twenty one to thirteen lead also fell in mind in the ball game closing in on one hundred yards rushing. Thanks to a couple of long scrambled in the first half. They're texting and still in it. But down twenty one to thirteen the top ring Alabama Simpson tide closing in on time. Thank you very much. Let's go to Jeff rap Ohio State. The route is on Jeff. Yeah. Buckeyes in really good shape here with two forty six. We just had a time out called state number four team in the country leading to lane thirty five to six urban Meyer. Of course, his first game back to the sideline. He's been running the program in the last couple of weeks. But that's that was levied back on August. First. Precluded him from being on the sideline on game day until today. Higher state. Of course, went all three games without urban Meyer. Ryan day is the acting head coach coming off that big win at TCU last week and OSU did jump out pretty quickly. In fact, they had a twenty one lead at the end of the first quarter with Wayne Haskins throwing three touchdown passes. And after two lane got on the board with dearest fraud. Well, two yard run buckeyes got right back to business Haskins again with another TV pass. He's got four on the day and Tate Martell his backup has entered the game. He led a scoring drive. That was capped off by eight yard touchdown run. By j k Dobbins the buckeyes averaging nine point seven yards per play and have three hundred sixty. I'm sorry. Yes. Three hundred sixty yards total right now is we took down to thirty nine and counting left in the first half Ohio State leading to lane thirty five six quickly. It's going to John Lowe. Kansas state in West Virginia at the half. John. Yeah. West Virginia twenty one and nothing here at halftime. And it's really all came down for West Virginia in the last. Couple of minutes is real Greer tossed a couple of touchdown passes. David sills, Kansas state want. Meanwhile, has not even able to reach mount near territory and West Virginia is how gaining Kansas state significantly. Trying that stuff out West Virginia without gaining can stay three hundred twenty two seventy seven and. Nothing. Good going on for K state and West Virginia leads the twenty one and nothing here at halftime. Thank you very much. John Intuit tug of Isla. Just throw another touchdown pass. Alabama late. First-half leads Texas ain't m twenty seven thirteen with the point after pending coming up tonight. It's going to be a good one Stanford and Oregon and autzen stadium, it should be a great one. And joining us right now is former ducks quarterback and good friend of the show and their current radio analyst, Mike Jorgensen mica w back. How are you? Hey, rich. Good to hear your voice. Thanks for having me on really. Appreciate it. Absolutely. Always love talking with you. Great to have you aboard once again. You know, this is going to be a much different test for the ducks than what they've had the first three weeks and not to dismiss them in any way. But are they up for it? Bowling green and Portland state who replaced Texas CNN who'd taken themselves out of a home and home a couple of years ago. And then San Jose State came to town last week and everybody thought that they would continue to blow people out they gave Oregon trouble last week, which was troubling. I think for a lot of people around here and cooling little bit of the coaching staff, but they're free. No heading into Stanford. That's what they wanted to be. And you know, big game here that has traditionally been the game between these two teams. And now Washington is kind of joined in the fray of settling who wins the nor the last couple of years. Oregon's got blasted by Stanford on an average of fifty one. I think fifty one seventeen has been scored the last couple of years on average and they're hoping to change at this year. Obviously last year Justin Herbert missed that. Meaning he was injured. And this team was a lot different without him in the lineup. And you could see the results he's healthy. Now, he's stronger how big is tonight for him on the on this national stage and is the upward. Well, it's you. It's the way you launch any type of campaign into actually if you're going to have that. But it's the way you launched this team he'll back into legitimacy and people believe in that they actually can contend for Pac twelve championship after being, you know, behind the eight ball the last couple of years in with him. They're very very good, and he's been a little bit streaky this year, and it's been interesting. I mean started the game in Oregon had a chance any to the games to start each of the first three games hot and have had a tremendous amount of drops. So that's almost the first mystery that each to get solved tonight with Oregon has the ball is ten they start quick. And if guys are open can they catch the ball? And you'll throughout the games they've been pretty good. But the start games, which you're gonna have to start bass tonight against Stanford. You don't want to get behind the eight ball with the cardinal is you know, is to have him start fast. Get confidence get into a rhythm. That's going to be one of the huge keys to Oregon success tonight. How important for for the ducks is to get their running game going against a d that's allowing just over three yards per carry the last two games well balance, you know, it takes a lot of pressure off adjusted Herbert if that's the case. And I mean, it's the same thing Stanford's going to try to do. Oregon's defense is get that balance of Bryce love and throwing the JJ or Sega Whiteside and company on the outside. And you know, if either team gets into a balanced type of situation where they're both running it. And throwing it effectively it's gonna be a big trouble for the opposing defense. Yes. Stanford comes in with. I think what maybe people could be of the season thought was going to be the weakness of the cardinal and right now what's been the strength only give it up seven points per game. They've been great against the run. Just give it up over three hundred. Yards on the season. But eighty six of that came at the very first quarter of the very first game to get Saint ago state. So pretty darned stingy against some good competition in Oregon again, the amount of people, Richard. I went by coming in today say well, what do you think? Well, what do you think? I don't know. I don't think a lot of people though, what this team is or isn't. So today's going to tell you a lot about the ducks. And and what they're gonna do probably the rest of the season with my Jorgensen, former Oregon ducks quarterback and current radio analyst as the ducks get rid of the take on Stanford tonight, and what should be another great atmosphere at autzen stadium. Bryce love set last week with an undisclosed injury. It's been a quiet start the Heisman candidate. How do they contain him tonight? Well, they gotta be great at the line of scrimmage, you know, scattered so good at bringing it into jumbo packages and make defend seven eight sometimes even nine gaps along the line of scrimmage by doing that, you got to pack the box with a lot of people, and and what can happen from time to time is if you missed a gap or he breaks the tackle there's nobody in the secondary at the second level to make that play. And as he did last year he had tons of huge runs and he did against Oregon last year to start the game down in Palo Alto. And and really put Oregon with a backup quarterback behind the eight ball, but you've got to be able to maintain a real disciplined gap control, depending on what Stanford brings to you at the line of screaming genetic into the two headed monster is you're leaving big tight ends and wide receivers in one on one situations against maybe what's been the week to civil Oregon's defense, so far and that's the defensive secondary. So choose your poison, but you gotta be disciplined, and you've got to really rally to the ball. And that's something that tomorrow. Christobal has been preaching to the defense. This week a three games under their new head coach, it was a smooth transition, and obviously one with a lot of continuity in this program. How would you describe the state of the Oregon football program right now? And and your thoughts on on the future. I think it's on its way back slowly. But surely I mean today and this evening's game here in Eugene with Stanford could be that type of leap forward that they need to really kinda legitimize themselves, but they're young still rich. They're very young a lot of physicians. I mean when I look at the to eat and in particular with tonight's game, and you look at the amount of fifth year seniors and seniors at Stanford puts on the field versus Oregon. There are very very young up and coming team. This is the type of thing that launches you maybe to the next level. You got Washington coming here in three weeks to autzen stadium tonight is is a lot that I think it's on its way back. I think that Mario Cristobal and the duty that you mentioned the staff keeping Jim Levitt and. Coach Royal quarterback position and some of the defensive back coaches and Joe salivate defensive line position that continuity has been huge to these guys particularly on the defensive side of the ball with all the turnover. They've had over the last two or three years. Finally, a lot of people on the bandwagon for Oregon tonight. And how do you see this game unfolding? Well, I tell you it's gotta be quick start for Oregon. They cannot get behind get behind. Not only on the scoreboard was Stanford. But you can't play from behind the markers. You can't be in a lot of second along third along situations to have a chance tonight. You gotta be great on first down to take the pressure off adjusting Herbert and the run game. And then on the other side of the ball. You can't let Stanford kitchen. Second six thirty two situations. They will lead you to death with their ball controlled under jumble packages, and you may only get eight or nine possession..
