"Today. I'm going to do something a little different for this installment of your next dive normally tried to take you to a dive destination where we talk about the trip from a number of different perspectives. The travel the lodging the dive operator. Oh yeah the diving. Now we've been around the world. But today i'm going to focus on one particular dive that is almost in our backyard. It is one of the most iconic dives here in new england and that is the wreck of the chester. Polling off gloucester mass. The chester polling was a coastal tanker. That sank in a brutal storm on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven. The tanker had just left everett massachusetts and was bound for newington new hampshire. That information is pretty consistent in the research but there is other conflicting information about where she had been. And what cargo she delivered for example some documentation said she had previously delivered kerosene to new jersey while others indicated that the heating oil was delivered to everett mass. I would suspect that delivery to everett mass to be more likely always interesting when you Doing research to get this type of inconsistency now the chester polling was bill in nineteen thirty four at mariners harbor new york by united dry docks incorporated it was originally in the plattsburgh sacconi somewhere along the line at also known as the mobile albany before getting renamed as the chester polling at the time of its sinking it was owned by the motor vessel polling brothers and that was number one inc. I wasn't able to find who was actually named after but obviously some member of the family. So that's a little bit of history about the ship now on january tenth. Nineteen seventy seven capital captain. Bert charles burgess was in command. The forecast for that day was for thirty five mile an hour winds along with fifteen to twenty foot seas. the chester polling chester. A polling left. Everett are left everett at six thirty. A m well as we all know. Forecast can be wrong. The winds built up to fifty miles per hour and to seize goddess highs. Thirty feet facing the mounting sees captain. Burge's tried to get more stability by adding more ballast but at ten thirty a m a thirty foot waves smashed into the tanker and broke it in half the captain called for abandoning the ship. Six of the seven members of the crew were saved. I believe it was the cook jail. Derosa from providence rhode island who perished the sir. The stern section of the chester polling came to rest off easter point gloucester originally in about seventy five feet of water with the bow section sinking about four miles off of eastern point in about one hundred ninety feet of water subsequent winter. Storms move the stern section to its present location about eight hundred yards off of eastern point about ninety five feet of water. I think the bottom might be a little bit deeper than that. However the stern section of the chester polling is what some folks call hollywood wreck sitting upright and is probably the most popular wreck dive off. Cape ann as that areas known. Now i- i dove the chester polling way back in july two thousand and five. It was my fortieth dive and a double dip on. The polling was part of my advanced open water class. These dyes would constitute my deep and wreck advanced. Open water dives. At that time. I was still diving in a seven. Millimeter wetsuit with the appropriate gloves and hood. I use the standard aluminum. Eighty tank with nighthawks. Thirty two. I can still remember the anxiety that had doing. The first real wreck dive in the northeast but once in the water what an amazing dive the visibility that day was thirty feet and my max step was at eighty five. Even though it was july the water temperature on iraq was fifty degrees. It was incredible to move along the deck and reach the mid mid ship section where. The tanker broken half absolutely mesmerizing but with an aluminum. Eighty you don't get much bottom time and after about fifteen minutes we headed back to the up line and after are appropriate safety. Stop we climb back aboard the boat and got ready to do it again. Total dive time was twenty six minutes the second dive that day was just as spectacular and pretty much the same profile. Let me just say in a wetsuit. It can get pretty chilly. I didn't go back to the chester polling until august. Two thousand nine and that was my last trip there. It was my two hundred and forty ninth dive but this time i did it in a dry suit and hope to get some good video of iraq. I still dove aluminum. Eighty the dive was just as i remembered and just as exciting visibility again was thirty feet. And my max. Depth was eighty two with and the bottom temperature. That day was forty eight degrees still very cold but so much better in a dry suit again however with an aluminum eighty. You just. Don't get much bottom time especially if your task loading like shooting video so my recommendation is that if you are planning to die the polling you might want to consider a little bit bigger tank something like a steal one hundred or going to doubles. I know that i wouldn't consider going back with anything less than a steel one hundred tank. How do you get to the chester polling back. Then we use cape and divers but they closed up several years ago and recently the dive boat cape and diver to was purchased by several guys from boston. An air now operating regularly chart regular charters again became an diverse to is a forty five foot. us coastguard registered dive vessel. It is spacious and right now with limited divers on board you get plenty of room to get ready and dive but you don't get a lot of but you don't get a lot of time because you don't have a lot of time to get ready because the is only a few minutes from the dock so be prepared one thing. Different about northeast wreck diving. Is that as a diver. You need to bring all your gear that includes tanks weights everything. It's not like diving at a resort. Don't get caught short by not being prepared with all your own stuff now. Here's an interesting element. That i discovered during my research. It appears that in nineteen sixties. The chester polling was length lengthened. By maybe twenty six or so feet. That doesn't sound like much. But at the time of her sinking her length with two hundred and eighty two feet so that lengthening was about ten percent of the original ship's length could this have been a contributing factor for the ship splitting in half. I wonder so if you happen to be in the area of cape ban in gloucester massachusetts. You might wanna look up cape and diver to and head out for a double dip on the chester a

"Jazz. Pretty big difference a plate but the plane between the boxes. There is still a team. That's been dominant every single game. With the exception of probably thirty minutes brazil salvador. This team dominated every single game. Every single moment of every single match. And i'm talking about like dominated dominant. Eighty two percent possession because trinidad seventy two present possession. Water malla fifty. Four hundred south southbound order thirty shots one game. Seventeen the next sixteen that game. They just finished this game. That was the only difference zero goals against the whole tournament. Let me ask you this so the goal comes from poona in the twenty six minute before that there were like three or four very good chances for mexico. tell me. Is there missing those chances. You're not thinking here. We go through that first half hour on until phone modem goal. I'm thinking this is the exact same mexican team. I've seen through the group base. Yeah and it's and it's that old saying that you hear mexican fans say all their time. Who almost better the most komo sam. But we might like never before lose like always and it's like it seems to be just ingrained in the way. They think when they see this happened that it's going to happen. It's going to happen. No but that's not the case a little hill. Your phone is to his credit. A lot of pressure on him this gold cup a lot of pressure even before even kicked the ball put the jersey on and he's been responding. Forget about the goals for a second. He's got three goals gold cup the play the actual play from him has been outstanding really. Let's get into that then fujimori first on our list of mexican players who have impressed or not throughout the gold cup based on what you just said her. I think your money has impressed. Yes now we mentioned d get when he's not scoring goals. What can you be doing.

He's making news. He's the chairman of the house freedom caucus and he told about legislation introduced today a group of house. Republicans introducing legislation to ban federal corona virus mask mandates on public transportation arguing that it's time to return to pre pending normalcy. So democrats are imposing masks mandates in a place like los angeles county republicans are saying. Knock it off if you're vaccinated. You shouldn't have to wear a mask. Wow wow also. There's news out of texas speaking of texas the texas house speaker. Dade valen has stripped el paso democrat congressman joe moody from his leadership position as speaker proteomics in response to the group of democrat lawmakers fleeing to washington dc. This is such a. This is such a stunt such an absolute stunt and shameful stunt where texas legislators do not want to do their job and vote on common sense election integrity laws and they got on private jets taking apparently cases of miller lite as has.

"About the dominion thing. If you don't do that lose my number you're never getting a story again. This was all morning long. It was like hurting cats. They all call me up. They didn't call it enright. Go watch them. How far movie. Then call me back now. The last one that called or one of the last ones was a gal from the washington post and she calls up. She's really obnoxious. Anyways talks over me. I go i go. You called me did you watch. Fight them indian. I said go watch it right now. Like everybody else had to this twenty six minute version. Nineteen minutes later. She calls me back i go. I timed her. Because i knew she was going to do it. Ninety minutes she calls me back. And i won't say her name but i go. Did you watch wash it. What about dominion sunni. I i said it's twenty minutes six minutes long. You sure you're it. Yeah i watched it. I said what's in it. She said something stupid. There wasn't any eat wrong. Answer now you get to go. Watch the two hour version which she had to go. Watch the two hour version. But here's what i'm saying. This is where our media has went. Then they call me. I tell them given in the evidence i said. They can't even even if they wanted to post the evidence. I had because i gave a lot of them. They can't because her bosses would let them. There's there's strength got a stranglehold to so so might the what you are alleging in saying that you were given the evidence i by whom but the this evidence. I'm not saying that these guys will be the. This is one thing. It doesn't matter where you got as long as you got it. But i had these were heroes that had the cow. The evidence the evidence. These guys took the movies the night of the election and before and after the whole election basically gathering these peak caps. Now if nobody did it you wouldn't have anything right. It's like having a royal flush poker game. Okay it's over and it has been over. So what is the endgame here for me. The game is at some marketing thing. Everyone in the world now knows that. I have something everyone you could go to you. Go israel australia. Whatever it's been all over because they keep hammering me and i keep going. Yeah i know about that. i know they. They took all my vendors. But you know what does china attacks us with these dope machines through the dominion spark management's not leave mall all out and anyway so now the thing is i'm going okay now. Everybody knows now. We've decided we're going to do the big plan. The big reveal. This was going to get the word out for the evidence. I came up with frank. Speech dot com. We is tell everybody. Get the evidence out. Far and wide share. The movies share absolutely nine zero. Which i just share the share these well. That's great but we're gonna do something better. It's called cyber symposium and we're inviting we're gonna bring is kind of like let's bringing. Let's bring everybody and make this a worldwide media vet where they gonna have to show up maybe even fox. What a concept. So here's what we're doing. We're bringing all the we're bringing in this cyber symposium all the cyber guys are in vital so we have all of my people there that have been hired. These guys you know and some of them are democrats there. You know. it doesn't matter about political affiliation this attack by china. This is gonna be a great uniting of our country so you bring all these cyber guys they have to have c i s s p credentials. And not. what does it mean cyber guy. Just you gotta have okay. It doesn't matter but you break. We're bringing them all there by the hundreds and they're going to be there and then it'll be a big event. Three day event big convinced there may be somewhat something like this obvious these various secure. Then you're going to invite all the media in the world. And when i say in the world if they don't come to this it would be amazing enough every media is going to be invited so and then but here's the key then we're inviting somebody get everybody wants. We have the location and the it'll be early august. Probably but when we have that. I'm going to have everyone in this country. All you need to do is reach out to your congressmen. Your senators your legislators your governors even knob rank koeppen. Doug ducey a And i'm going to reach out to a allan duke. Shame on allen joke. He's the fact checker for facebook. I want him there. I want all of these people. Their congressman legislature secretary of state's attorney. General they're all going to be there. Then we're gonna pass out the evidence and all of these guys. They're not subjective. Everybody every single one. I wanted to be seen by more people than elvis presley from hawaii and nineteen seventy-three billions watching this. Because here it is. Here's this everyone's gonna go you know. Let's say the hand is the peak capita shows us. What what town you. Here's your here's what we got here. We show everything and all these guys are going to be tapping on the shoulders. A senator going is this real. Oh yeah and it's not even subjective in an and you know we're going to do that and then we're going to do one more thing there and this is pretty cool because pack a packet capture. I want everybody fully conceptualize what that is so. We're gonna do a mock election. And i want to run that you know. At least semi for seventy two. Just keep running mock elections over and over again we got machines you line them up like cordwood you have two hundred maybe the senators and the legislature. The congressmen vote themselves. So they all come through. They all vote we show at livestream. You're showing us. They put the votes in now. You have your hacker. They hack in at the dominion level which means the machine level at the county board level at the secretary said and you put down how many they want hacked so they put down that saves in a train out. Yeah at this on fifty votes. This one forty this one thirty so they do that. Okay and this comes out the other side near go. Whoa while it's real right but what we're going to go a step further then we're going to have the guys that it takes. The capture the peak caps capture the packet captures and they would not know this right. So you're pulling it right off the the internet there and you're showing the packet capture and it's beautiful so some people might say that you can fake a peak cap and this is not forensically audited. And there's no evidence and the experts disagree. Tell tell us and me why that line of thinking is wrong. Well that's a great question because it's wrong the but with the packet capture and you can look it up. Look it up yourself on the internet. Look it up. What it is is captured moment in time. And i've asked you can ask every cyber person you want and they're going to say if you have the packet capture is it's preserved at that moment in time. It can't be changed. It is like having a picture from one thousand nine hundred seventy that they can't ultra go there. It is or it's like having dna at a blood in a scene of a.

"Are apologizing for their ethics failings. They didn't they didn't fire bill more. No more no. They just wanted to move behind the curtain. They tried to get him a cushy job elsewhere in fact as was reported in blackhawks last month they spent nearly eleven thousand dollars during a pandemic on hospitality and printing in order to try to get this guy the oecd job. I it's it's madness to think that that somehow more no was being punished. This is just another example of how when the spotlight gets too hot. The liberals try to give their buddies jobs somewhere in the dark. And that's all you're seeing here and you should not give justin trudeau a pass for this. This is not ethical heroism. This is ethical failure at the highest stages. It wasn't bad enough that he had to be an ethical failure in canada. He tried to make bill more. No the world's ethical failure by putting him in charge of the oecd. Carter me response to that. In terms of maybe. Don't give me response. I don't want your version. "There's a soviet film from nineteen seventy five called hedgehog in the fog. It's only ten minutes long. It's been called the best animated film of all time for the You're at your committee. Runco she said. I know surgeries now truly. Actually russian animation is a kind of an art. Form the cartoons. They're they're made without the restrictions that your typical american cartoons are like they don't have to be twenty six minutes long space for commercials didn't have to have these continuation of a story. Once the episode this over backing the soviet russia the cartoons were made purely as a way to sort of entertain the kids of course but also as a kind of as kind of arts. They were only as long as they needed to be. The only told the story the way it ought to be told without anything else. And i think people who have seen them. They would easily agree with my statements. It's really something to be seen in may of nineteen twenty eight. Mickey mouse was introduced by walt disney within a few years. Disney animation's were so popular that they're being shown around the world including at a film festival in moscow in nineteen thirty three soviet viewers including joseph stalin fell in love the slogan. Give us a soviet. Mickey mouse became popular and three years later in nineteen thirty six the animation studio so use multiple opened in moscow. A version of it still exists today and many of the films are admired for their sophistication and lack violence as one director. Put it in our films. There's always been less aggression. We stake darla not on action but on psychology humor and a dialogue with the viewer. Coronavirus conspiracy theories on the rise

"So the video is conspiracy theory as you know it's and the basic idea seems to be is that some shadow we elites are conspiring to use the pandemic to seize power maybe make money by creating vaccines and the star of this twenty six minute clip that went viral is this woman named Judy make of that too has become a kind of hero to the anti vaccine crowd she's a discredited scientist who published a book in April called plague of correction and that sort of depicts her as a truth teller fighting scientists who aren't willing to accept inconvenience facts and so far right publications began to promote her book in this documentary that is forthcoming will apparently be taking an even closer look at these sort of baseless conspiracies this video has since since it kind of blew up has been taken down but tell us about some of the crazy accusations and I mean one of the things that keeps popping up I think it was the main thing that really got to pull down was they were saying that wearing a mask will literally activate your own virus that's right and that is the thing that got it taken down platforms like YouTube and Facebook generally do not want to remove content from the network and they tried to enable a maximum of free speech but they do make an exception for stuff that is actively harmful and while a lot of this video plan that make is just kind of conspiracies saying don't forget a lot of people are making money and other people are going to become more powerful that's not what it got taken down I got taken down because as you say it warned people against wearing masks you know saying that it would re inspect them which of course there is no basis for that whatsoever but you can imagine if a lot of people watch it's that and believe that you could have a really negative a stacked on public health so initially Facebook did it want to remove it but when it sort of stumbled across that particular claim it said okay we've actually got to take this thing down any doctor Judy make if it's for herself she does have a degree in biology from the university of Virginia a PhD in molecular biology she worked on the national Cancer Institute she has a lot of things under her belt but then she started getting into work about chronic fatigue syndrome and vaccines and this is kind of where she was derailed a little bit a lot of people discredited a lot of the later things that she was researching so like in two thousand nine she had published research saying that a mouse retrovirus because chronic fatigue syndrome which got a lot of attention but it was discredited a couple years later and the journal ultimately retracted it and it in this sort of like a weird aside story she was actually put in jail on charges of staffed which apparently involves computers disappearing those charges were dropped but the whole thing was a scandal and she was kind of sidelined and lost her scientific career but after that she sort of drifted into this anti Bax crowd and because of the credentials that you mentioned the anti vaxxers have sort of lifted her up as this brave truth teller even though what she saying is largely nonsense so let's talk about how something like this goes viral the usual players come up obviously Facebook and you to have a huge part in this but there was a lot of Facebook groups that we're sharing this and then beyond that even as you mentioned there's a lot of mistruths in this video but it also takes time for their fact checkers to go through this so as you've mentioned they didn't take it down right away it kind of was circulating around for a while while they were trying to do some of that fact checking it's a really interesting story the way that things go viral on Facebook and you tube is always changing based on the things that the platforms due to try to stop bad stuff from happening and sort of like as soon as they fix one problem another emerges so over the past year Facebook has put a lot more attention on groups getting people to join groups kind of moving away from that news feed and there are a lot of conspiracy groups anti VAX groups where this video clip was very popular in what happened is people were sharing it in the group and what they were sure it was actually a link to you too and so from those Facebook groups they were able to send seven point one million views to one video within a period of between thirty six and forty eight hours so just within a short period of time Facebook drove all of that traffic to you too and so it was kind of an unwitting tag team between the two platforms that sent this thing viral as you noted it did take awhile for the platforms to fully understand what was in the video the video is twenty six minutes long it contains a lot of claims and they had to go through it sort of point by point and ultimately make the determination that it had to come down but it sort of speaks to this cliche this quote that is attributed to Mark Twain that the lie gets halfway around the world before the truth can put its shoes on and that was definitely the case here and it was also this whole thing with obvious all the algorithms and it's this big cycle she had just self published a book not too long ago and it became this thing where searches for her name brought up searches for the video and vice versa searches for them he would bring up searches for her name so it's kind of this big cycle where it's just feeding off of itself for a while until Facebook and YouTube took these things down and you know I think it's important to remember that Judy megabits has something to celebrate she has a book to sell into this whole viral events on Facebook and YouTube has been very good for her she had a number one best seller on Amazon over the weekend yesterday was still at number six so all of this is bound to be huge benefit to somebody who is selling this very day Alicia's ideas that just doesn't have any basis in

A disgraced scientist and a viral video: how a Covid conspiracy theory started

"The last week we saw the first true hit conspiracy video the coronavirus era it was called the plan Dimmick and got over eight million views on Facebook and YouTube the video has since been removed but not before making the start of discredited scientist Dr Judy make of it this video also purported to say that if you wear a facemask it could reactivate the corona virus in your body for more on what to know about the plan to make a conspiracy video will speak to Casey Newton Silicon Valley editor at the verge so the video is conspiracy theory as you notes and the basic idea seems to be is that some shadow we elites are conspiring to use the pandemic to seize power maybe make money by creating vaccines and the star of this twenty six minute clip that went viral is this woman named Judy make of that it's who has become a kind of hero to the anti vaccine crowd she's a discredited scientist who published a book in April called plague of corruption that sort of depicts her as a truth teller fighting scientists who are willing to accept inconvenience facts and so far right publications began to promote her book in this documentary that is forthcoming will apparently be taking an even closer look at these sort of baseless conspiracies this video has since since it kind of blew up has been taken down but tell us about some of the crazy accusations and I mean one of the things that keeps popping up I think it was the main thing that really got to pull down was they were saying that wearing a mask will literally activate your own virus that's right and that is the thing that got it taken down platforms like YouTube and Facebook generally do not want to remove content from the network and they tried to enable a maximum out of free speech but they do make an exception for stuff that is actively harmful and while a lot of this video plan that make is just kind of conspiracies saying don't forget a lot of people are making money and other people are going to become more powerful that's not why it got taken down I got taken down because as you say it warned people against wearing masks you know saying that it would re inspect on which of course there is no basis for that whatsoever but you can imagine it's a lot of people watch that and believe that you could have a really negative a stacked on public health so initially Facebook didn't want to remove it but when it sort of stumbled across that particular claim it said okay we've actually got to take this thing down and Dr Judy make if it's for herself she does have a degree in biology from the university of Virginia a PhD in molecular biology she worked on the national Cancer Institute she has a lot of things under her belt but then she started getting into work about chronic fatigue syndrome and vaccines and this is kind of where she was derailed a little bit a lot of people discredited a lot of the later things that she was researching so like in two thousand nine she had published research saying that a mouse retrovirus because chronic fatigue syndrome which got a lot of attention but it was discredited a couple years later and the journal ultimately retracted it and then in this sort of like a weird aside story she was actually put in jail on charges of the staffed which apparently involves computers disappearing those charges were dropped but the whole thing was a scandal and she was kind of sideline and lost her scientific career but after that she sort of drifted into this anti VAX crowd and because of the credentials that you mentioned the anti vaxxers have sort of lifted her up as this brave truth teller even though what she saying is largely

Netflix's 'Love Is Blind' brings the reality dating show into 2020

"Netflix plan to take over television has extended to dating shows for a while. But perhaps they've never made one so weird so baffling at so cringe. Inducing Lee embarrassing for everyone involved as love is blind and you probably know someone who's watching it then what the show insists on calling an experiment. Couple sit in separate cells that they call pods where they can hear each other but not see each other and once they've had a conversation or two if they're getting along they get engaged and only then do they meet will any of them. Make it to the altar. I'm Stephen Thompson and I'm Linda Holmes. We're talking about the NETFLIX series. Love is blind on this episode of Pop Culture Happy Hour from NPR joining me and Steven from NPR. West is one of our most treasured friends. Who the record should show. We did not force to watch. Love is blind Sam Sanders the host of. It's been a minute. Hello Sam I would. A page ought to be on this show. We should also point out that Y'All can't see me in her. We're trying to figure out whether we can possibly have a meaningful conversation county each other so before we get to deeply into it. The basic idea of this show is that you start with some men and some women they all sit and if you think of them as little tiny prison cells with furniture and painted walls they are separated by a wall that they can't see through but they can hear through so it's basically like having a conversation with someone in two adjoining phone booths. And so they talk to each other and then if they like each other enough to get engaged without ever having met or spoken to a non television based situation they move out of those pods and they go on vacation and live together and see if they really really want to get married they all have to have a wedding and go up to the altar. And then when you're up there you have to decide. Are you going to say yes? Are you going to say now? Dump you forever Steven. You're a viewer of trashy television. Way Back leaving. Some fairly trashy dating shows enough that I can peg this show as a combination of the bachelor married by America and Mr Personality hosted by Monica Lewinsky. Boy Cut. What did you think of this one? You know the first episodes I struggled a little bit. I found it very stressful. It's got some of that kind of falsely generated conflict. It's a dating show. I've kind of weaned myself off of the Bachelor Bachelorette for kind of ethical reasons as much as anything and getting back into a dating show. Took me a couple episodes. At which point I could not stop watching it. The instruction going in with Stephen. I know you're very busy right now. Even just watch three or four. I've watched all ten and burned through them. Basically in one sitting one of the things that makes this show. So Benjamin is that it's on Netflix. So there are among other things no commercials and no reason to break into the show and say begun. And then I'll come up the senior about to see and then you come out of commercials. Here's a recap of what you saw. Before the commercial break with the bachelor going back but he's Ryerson on streaming services edited versions of the Bachelor and the Bachelorette where they cut that crap out and then each episode will be like twenty six minutes long. So this doesn't have that but it's centered on this ludicrous false choice between getting married or never seeing each other again. Which is down like they're not allowed to subvert the show in any way they're not allowed to say like f you were dating. There's sort of forced to do one or the other and they. They all seem to buy into this experiment in a way. That is very silly but at the same time it is a weirdly intoxicating show that I ultimately enormously enjoyed even though it's very very stupid. Yeah I basically agree with that. Take Sam a hit me. What did you think? Oh Man so. There are two big reasons. I love this show one for what it says about net flix and to for what it says about what we normally do. And don't say about love one. This really shows that like in spite of trying to be the place for Prestige Film. Net flicks is actually really good at reality. Tv You'll recall. Cheer you'll recall tied in with Marie Condo more queer eye or nailed it or next and fashion or the glass blow reality show followed by the circle and now this. They're making really good addictive reality. Tv and that's for several reasons. You know some of Stephen pointed out. They don't have to commercial breaks thing. Let these stories flow and organic and then in many ways they are not overproducing this stuff when I compare What's going on with. Love is blind to like the bachelor. There seems to be less direct manipulation by the producers. They'll be plotlines in the bachelor of where the had the couple go to a country music concert but wait turns out the country. Music singer is one of their excess craziness. Ensues you see the last of that with the blind makes it feel more earnest. Even though still fake I know I know right at the very least. They're better at hiding it. It doesn't feel conspicuous. Whatever manipulation there is and you know they're certainly is like we're all going to happen to meet up with my parents and I. It does become kind of something that you know is is staged in some of the same ways but I do agree that they're better at making it feel like something that could happen in a real person's life. Yeah so that's the first thing like this to me is evidence that whether they like it or not. Netflix is now better at reality. Tv then movies and with that the second thing it says to me is the things we do or do not talk about publicly when it comes to courtship. I think this show is really brave and having these people who are strangers very early on in their quote unquote relationships talk about race. Talk about physical appearance. Talk about money. One of the couples has to deal with the fact that one is black and one white. And they discuss it. The entire time very openly and candidly and responsibly. Another couple Barnett. And what's her name? Maria she's flat broke in one episode. She says to him my credits crap. I don't always have a job a few months ago. I was Outta my car. What you think about that. You would never see that on the bachelor you would. And most couples don't talk about that until it's too late so to see. That disgust candidly on this show. I find it kind of refreshing. Well it's one of those things where it's both early and too late because on the one hand only known each other for a couple of weeks but on the other hand there are already engaged so I agree that there's that funny. There's this funny conversation between a SAM mentioned Barnett. And amber where? It's not just that she's saying like I'm broke or whatever and he asks her. How many days a week she works and she says as many as I feel like she says I work to live. I don't live to work. Which is one of those things red flag that could be as you said. There's such a fine line between my queen and I know the same way about folks to say that as folks who say. I don't do drama. It's like Oh no. You don't drama. Well right actually do drama. You sort of have to theoretically talk about those things but you have none of the history that might make talking about those things in some ways both easier and harder. But you have to do it anyway. The part that I found most jarring to tell you the truth was like the very first time someone in this show says I love you. I almost crawled out of my skin of so weird so weird. The other thing I think is amazing about it is the people keep saying this is crazy and I keep wanting to say yes. It is run. Are we nuts? Yes in like that is what makes me. What's become the saddest story line in this show? And this is the story of Mark in Jessica. They have a great emotional connection. But Jessica doesn't think that mark is physically her type. He's not tall enough not Nordic enough not blonde enough not white enough and that becomes clear very early on and she never just says that he's also ten years younger than she is and exactly former relationship. Where if it were a family pet you would phen. Is it out of mercy? Twenty hours before this show.

"Twenty six minutes before the hour okay big new poll here that he calls the president calls a mini Mike former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg tied with Bernie Sanders for the lead in a Virginia poll there's another poll that shows Bloomberg in front in in Florida I also in just I'm I'm there the the the ending the cage door is driving me crazy because here's a guy who's a CNN contributor the former disgraced FBI director may I I was under the impression the guy got fired for line and yet he's insisting that he's been smeared he's been for his family and he have been through hell for two or three years because of the smeared led by the president he never lied he didn't do anything wrong he feels complete vindication and you know we're we're seeing Roger stone faced maybe many years in jail for line as well if anybody can straighten me out it's one of the co authors of the terrific book justice on trial the capital confirmation and the future of the Supreme Court you senior editor at the federalist she's a fox news contributor she's also a senior journalism fellow at Hillsdale college one only Mollie Hemingway because every time I talk to my lawyers here on TV I feel like I've my I get a little bit smarter Molly have you been Molly have you been you there what all right I guess we don't have Molly let's see we got her back he was a big buildup big introduction as you live in there just my luck yeah here we go strike I guess Molly I give you this big introduction you weren't even there for me I heard the whole thing but my cheek had accidentally muted the phone so I apologize I thought I thought of already installed my guest right off the bat at that with that kind of introduction No Way you're glad to have you back I appreciate your your perspective on so many things this specially any McCabe help me understand the case the the the bizarre story of Andrew McCabe I've read your work on this and so I wanted to share with with our listeners your take because he is insisting that he did he's done nothing wrong he didn't lie he says so kind of a simple question Mollie Hemingway did and then enter McCabe live or not actually no question about whether or not he lied he definitely alive and he took actions to cover up the fact that he was lying the issue is not actually related to the Russia collusion hopes that he also was involved in and he also might be in trouble for thank you get there this was about a week to the Wall Street journal in the closing days of the twenty sixteen campaign that he authorized he actually had the front page another name I remember leaked to the Wall Street journal but then when they asked about it he repeatedly told people he knew nothing of it he told James call me he knew nothing of it he told investigators he knew nothing of it he actually called the field offices of New York and Washington DC to yell at Barnes and could guess that day had been the ones to leak it finally when he realizes that Lisa page has admitted her role in the leak inside it was done by you know she was authorized to do it by her the boss there then he goes back and says you know I'm not gotten that I did also and cure no question that he lied repeatedly to multiple people about it including under and there's no question that if he were not someone who is friends with people at the department of justice and FBI that he himself would be prosecuted that's one of the things we've learned is that if you slightly mis remembered date and your contact yet well get ready for Christmas right you are into the cave and your life your friend colleague riders under oath all the thing well no worries you're fine you'll be protected and you get to go on CNN and be indignant that people know you're a liar and call you a liar I get paid for because he's a paid contributor so he's got a salary for a bride guarantee of six figures or better as a contributor a paid contributor CNN one expression that kind of righteous indignation and you mentioned Lisa page you know Molly I'm so fascinated at how these folks or do everything out in the open there's lots to transparency go back to James call me where he admitted leaking to The New York Times number yet as college professor body and and and sort of bragged about well here's the FBI director leaking stuff that he wanted in the public domain through an intermediary and again never got really any accountability for that here's Lisa page I know you saw this she's wearing a shirt as she takes to Twitter and after Anne McCabe was I guess you know cleared in the end they announced the justice department announced they were done with him she got a shirt on the picture of her that says I'm done being quiet she's holding up a glass of red wine she literally twenty the words cheers handy I mean Molly this folks are not subtle at all that's not their strong suit you have to say this is actually what's the most frustrating thing about the entire situation they are being brazen about their Bob breaking they know they won't be held accountable and they are taunting people think if why you know I I I I actually understand what apartment justice decided not to prosecute this this is something that that again I'm not sure Khan affiliate wouldn't normally prosecute it's hard to prove enchanting it's very hard to convince the DC jury that anyone in the resistance has done anything wrong but on one bar and door and start to actually prosecute people for the crimes committed and the wrongdoing falsely setting a narrative that Donald Trump or the trader who colluded with Russia that was something the naval criminal leaks flowing out of the apartment of justice flowing out of the FBI and other bad behavior no involving other agencies unless they start to hold high level people accountable it's actually very it's a big risk to the Republic we cannot continue what everybody sees which is a system of justice where if you are politically aligned with the department of justice and by that I mean the bureaucrats not the not the actual political leadership then you get to get away with anything including false statements and if you're not then you go to prison that's not tenable and not not until we need to have people held accountable the things you can point to and with that even the media can no longer deny I mean they're trying to completely change the story and then the incident there needs to be actual prosecution and and things are set in stone so what's behind the Attorney General bill Barr and the justice department declaring that Andrew McCabe shouldn't be prosecuted what what drives that I mean I know I know bars facing a ton of pressure you got everybody from Elizabeth Warren to you know demanding his resignation other calling for maybe possible impeachment over two thousand former justice department officials have supposedly signed a letter calling on bar to resign is he feeling the heat is that why he didn't want to go after Andrew McCabe I truly don't know exactly why she permitted this to continue because the question is will you know it wasn't his decision it's just about whether he made a decision to intervene or not clearly did not intervene to fight what the what they had decided I do think that he gave in close when he first testified about how he would handle you know he does want to uncover what the heck happened with this completely illicit and wrong you know ad campaign against against president trump and his affiliates but he said at the time I don't want to do you know what they did to their political opponents he doesn't want to bring people up on profits crime might not but it's also true that I just can you mention that letter from the from the eleven hundred department justice people every single one of these people with gad silence when the inspector general revealed all sorts of wrongdoing in the department of justice and FBI when it came to that illicit lying on the trump campaign and some of them were actually named in the inspector general report indicating in the wrong doing so their word means less than nothing unless they ever express any concern about the violation of civil liberties done at that department and the political spying on the trump campaign Steve this can make some of this up it just feels like you're like fiction our guest is Mollie Hemingway **** a senior editor at the federalist fox news contributor let me change gears for just a moment I was riveted by Tucker Carlson's monologue last night about Mike Bloomberg essentially buying his way on to the debate stage tomorrow night maybe buying his way into becoming the nominee which is shorter and fury eight Bernie Sanders supporters but what do you make of of the tons of I mean we're talking money that's never been spent by an individual before in order to try to achieve his quest of running for president is there is there anything wrong with that in your view or or is this just just America circa twenty twenty I think that's what you've asked is the question of the day well the Democratic Party allow Mike Bloomberg to buy their nominations announced money are just unbelievable something no deals on American about it to go from the New England town hall suggest I can spend more money than god and we write them a credit no need Miley and Israeli he brags about I've seen them on social media and some of his orange man bad tweets retakes on property says I have the resources to to defeat you and I will those are his words well I think that a lot of democratic voters legitimately like that meaning all they care about is getting orange man bat out of office and and they don't think any other can do it as they say while he does have the money to do it so maybe we should start the court behind him the question is though is this right for the moment right now globally we have a situation where there's frustration with billionaire control of everything economy politics and desire to return you know toward more populist down until the Democratic Party itself is having that battle between Bernie Sanders playing and number sure enter the center left wing represented by Bloomberg in others the Republican Party clearly went through that and actually came out stronger as a result you're seeing it globally and so I'm not sure if he could be running at just the wrong time given the mood of voters and voters film count for something in our system he's in with his gobs of cash and ma and Molly this showdown you because you're right this is that the this is the quickest lives are polar opposites away Bernie has vilified billionaires we gotta get billionaires out of the process so his worst nightmare and he's got to be credibly frustrated because you're right he he he they're out Jake pressing the flesh and kissing babies in New Hampshire and they're they're you know they're flipping coins in Iowa and you're handing out cookies to caucus and here comes Mike Bloomberg with hundreds and hundreds and you can't turn on the TV without a Mike Bloomberg ad and and Bernie Sanders and his supporters have to say wait a minute I mean here we go again we're gonna get hosed all over again right message of Bernie Sanders basically we can't have people like him in charge right politics and the economy but he brings unity is the front runner for the democratic nomination he's one one Iowa in terms of both cast you one Hampshire he's slated to win no matter who's gonna be strong I think the Democratic Party they don't want him and don't think that he can defeat trump which I think is actually possibly over stated by the that's why there that's why I think it's starting to make their peace with Bloomberg because he could suppress how much Bernie gets the most delegates by you know getting more than thirty percent of the delegates than they might be able to keep him from getting it's funny how my mind works because you know it's it's it's kind of hit me this past week and I'm not saying this to.

Deltas CEO wants to use tech to make airports happier places

"This year. It's the electrics and tech show in Las Vegas held every January. The kickoff keynote presentation was for the first time by an airline airline CEO. Delta's ED bastion. He talked about how tech should help. Take the stress out of flying. And of course make you want to pay more to fly Delta the the airline announced a few new features like updates to its APP to include other parts of the trip such as rideshare or hotel also artificial intelligence to improve scheduling and investment investment in updating airports including something called parallel reality high tech displays and airports that show personalized flight information to lots of different different people. All at the same time. Here's ED bastion from Las Vegas describing it to me. You'd walk up to your gate and you'd see or your boarding. Try to figure out which gate you're going to. When what time is it and it seems like Mumbo jumbo particularly if you don't speak the language of coming from another country and who have you're you're welcome sign two just you personally will see welcome molly? Your Gate is eight twenty six minutes departing and forty eight minutes. And there's a there's a starbucks you know halfway down there if you wanted to stop and get a coffee on the way down. Just think I'll welcoming that is held personalized. How do you personalize the experience? And how people have that connection to the brand and that that emotional experience that we talk about a delta. What are the parts that you can't control? I mean there are a lot of stakeholders a lot of touch points in an airport. You know you can't not really. I wish you could make. TSA EASIER FOR PEOPLE. But what are the parts that you only able to tell you one of the things that spin unique to our turnaround is we stop thinking about the things that we can't control and start focusing on the things we can control and there's many more things within our control than or not as they. Tsa In the Security Queue. You know we are not responsible for but we think like we're responsible for it because we're responsible for our customers and doing more and more than working more with biometrics to kind of facilitate that facial recognition while certainly has privacy. You know questions that people sometimes don't want to which is fine they they don't have to opt for it if they don't want to go. Facial recognition is more efficient way to get people through a boarding and through the entire airport expense without having to fumble for their passport or their boarding pass or trying to find their papers. I mean this is a departure no pun intended but who are you hiring. I would imagine a generation of data scientists and coders not necessarily thinking. Ah Delta is the place I'm GonNa Land Oh we we got a lot of data scientists because they like they like the challenge. This is big league stuff does. This is actually solving dynamic issues. That are happening real time. Twenty four hours a day. In fact ninety two thousand four we call business forty six hours in a day when you think about the full length around the world that we're flying it's high class Stuff we also you know people love to travel and so that's one of the perks snake you know while we're competing with the amazons and the other for talent we're actually winning a lot of people coming go from high tech organizations. 'cause they like they like the work. They liked the challenge the work and they liked the product. I have to be honest coming into this. I thought you were going to announce facial recognition in every airport in Everyday Delta boarding. I know that something that you have talked about and experimented with an airline. Where is that well? It's it's it's coming it's it's it's there therefore in most of our international markets now You know there's I think people are still trying to figure out what their point of view on facial and communities are trying kind of figure that governments are as well For US adult it's important. It's an opt in system. We're not forcing people to go through facial recognition. We think it's it's a great technology to help. Facilitate you know the flow through an airport as well as the effectiveness of the security trying to truly trying to fail weed out the bad guys But the reality is is that I think people are still getting used to the concept. So no we weren't. We weren't planning what we wanted to do was announce things that are coming uncover the next five years as compared to things that we already. We're already doing okay is a little trickier than we all thought it was GONNA be facial recognition facial recognition. No no I wouldn't say that facial recognition on the international side is largely in place. We still have some airports to finish rolling out On the on the TSA on the domestic excite yes that's probably more challenging because large no more higher number of volume of passengers domestically than internationally a travel. Secondly you don't have the infrastructure really in place through through. Tsa to accommodate yet again. You think about those clogged you know Hallway Hallway sometimes through its TSA operates adding another form of access through there with facial is just it's just that much more challenging but as we're building the infrastructure process. We're we're we're leaning towards. I want to ask you about climate change because when people fly a lot. It's good for your business but there is this realization. I think increasingly that it's it's bad for the planet. How do you take climate into account and how might some of this investment technology? Maybe mitigate some of that in pitch we we Those are those are. I think that is the existential question for us for future in terms of our ability to grow zig. If we can't can't grow sustainably our industry is not going to be given the right to grow. I think it's that serious and we are doing a lot in that regard and I'm pretty self critical of Delta as as well as the industry in this respect. I think we've kind of been defensive about it. I think we've talked in passive voice. We've talked about things that we're doing less of as compared to what we're we're doing to actually make the planet better. We're just doing less bad as compared to doing more good and you got to do both and and you gotta by the way also engage your

WNBA Final Series Game 5

"Fans we've got a great show for you a lot to talk about Lot to talk about including this amazing Wnba finals series that we're getting right ahead to a game five that's right I haven't heard day five between the Washington mystics in the Connecticut Spun will take place Thursday eight PM. ESPN two series has shifted back to Washington each team has one on each other's home court so that really has it been a factor we'll talk about that we're also going to talk about the drama in La a lot going on there so recent comments by the NBA Players Association I don't know if she CEO President one of those Michelle Roberts has sparked a lot of conversation we'll get into that and I'm yeah whatever else we've talked about well first of all DEB I just want to ask you because we covered allow last podcast you weren't here you didn't even get to number one address your Vegas team that you picked to win the championship and why they're not here you're in all the drama with Liz us you didn't even get to comment on that would you care. Is there anything you want to address from the semi finals the Erica shot like you just totally have been absent I really have let's see I for one I still oh dear dinner for her shot and keeping alive just long enough to make it past y'all teams you tell picked the beginning of the season so at the end of the day really taking her to dinner Garretta when you're in Chicago let me know I got you love the list trash talk that you know it's really exciting really being what would the weight room thing do for us you were on the other team like Oh yeah I it was a I think it was poor timing however I live for stuff like that so I've had I was thoroughly enjoying the comments because I am the Queen's trash talking so I enjoyed it I don't think it was the property the time that that fire DC up to be honest Yeah I I don't think it was the right time for it but I mean I like the trash talking I mean I I'm pretty sure didn't Natasha Clouds Day she guarantees the wind Thursday I'm here for all of his arms well let me just say this real quick like honestly not tweeted this yesterday this is just a little prayer by listening we're going to get into the hardcore seven-minute but this trash talkers the thing has started to get a little bit I tweeted this because I think I heard Jasmine Thomas in what was it Oh yes the game the presser after game four she was like you know people were thinking we're GonNa roll over like basically responding to a question about the get to the championship and I'm like who still saying stuff about Connecticut like I am all for the disrespect campaign because I think it's fueled their players is fire them up uh I'm just speaking of someone who would played on the other team like I'm a little bit over like Courtney Williams saying I get any shot I want to like if I'm your teammate I'm like dude food chill with that because the game three she actually didn't get every shot she wanted to you know what I mean like you gotTa be real careful about the trash-talk stuff because you said you can fire team up I think Connecticut completely fired up about things that people were saying July like please resurrected if that's we do but I don't think anyone has really questioned in being a championship contender in at least the last month and a half now the way they've done it yes I mean did I think La was win again yeah but I just don't know there's just so much I don't know about that now the role player comment that came out was definitely ember that was not in July and when you look at the national coverage if you will about who decidedly was supposed to win aw nobody picked Connecticut I know here espn all of our analysts who decided to make a prediction predicted that it would be Washington so I don't think the deal would that's that's very listen that's still very relevant that people pick Washington because we have a game by like that you have won anything yet you know what I'm saying like I don't know I don't think I picked La to make it. I Don I bic La to make it past Connecticut so but no but they didn't know that Ah I mean I think as a player as a as a player I think that you don't say that out loud you may say it on the court and you may talk to you you know like the teams but saying it you know in the media is always smart 'cause they just give you know like fuel to the other team I think you have to be smart with your trash talking but as a fan I'm enjoying it so much more exciting so I'm I'm here for it I just feel bad that jasmine had to arrest that at this point like they've already won two games in the finals or going to a game five she's still talking about people thinking that they were GonNa roll over like I seen that but I get what you're saying about the role players commentary go which okay that's fine but they've been doing a lot more out here than that it's brilliant it's entertaining I just get worried we're people start doing too much happened because I know what that does the other team you know what I mean like Liz campaigns now knows what that does to the other team like you just need to you need to stay humble because it was dying to Rasi they had to shut Courtney Williams down two years in a row because she got a little bit out of pocket and I love Corny I've covered her since her US days I think she is great for the game I'm loving all the coverage of her and her dad is like dream dad right like he is down he is like supporters aw I'm all here for this to be real careful in this league honey because people never forgets no and you're gonna hear about it later so they better back then yeah you sure will and with that let's talk about let's go into our first quarter so we can talk about something and I'm Connecticut WanNa forget this quarter An- that is game three they wanNA forget that because they latorre L- game three on on Sun a Sunday so just like a quick recap on that so that we can get into what was a phenomenal game for Connecticut Lost Ninety four eighty one on Sunday they look like a very different team I'm just the game before John Clo- Jones had a stellar performance thirty two and eighteen but Sunday came around the MVP returned for one. Washington didn't really look I thought she looked stiff personally didn't think that she moved very well but it Kinda didn't matter she still finished with thirteen points six board she's still played twenty six minutes and whether you've got her for ten percent or one hundred percent you still got a garter you still got to worry about her she's still going to impact Act anybody that is going to have to face her so with that Connecticut was looking at a losing home court or had lost court advantage heading in to gain four they were down in the series two one but last night was a tale of two teams they started the game out firing on cylinders I mean they put together quite a first half performance on they led by as much as eighteen points they were up fifty six to forty at the half and so four we go into the second half of of how that game turned out I'm right after the halftime I'm sorry right before Halftime me Williams actually stopped for a moment to chat with our Holly Rowe and she spoke a little bit about why her team was so energized etiquette game five Thursday Courtney Williams doing her best to make that happen holly according to your defensive commitment is completely different tonight why did you change what did I tell you gotTa Win I you know I was a little bit off last game all back against the wall can't take no plays off you already got more is confidence and guess what she has the game back it up 'cause she doesn't need a screen she don't need anybody step up and do anything for her she could go get shots what she wants them now I thought we were talking about three looks like we're talking about gay four now yeah we're not gonNA spend too much time on game three that's because one we are limited on our time on this podcast right now and number two because Connecticut Connecticut Fan so we're moving fast at eight Dave I'll let you start which you think I thought in game force initially I mean Connecticut had great energy and you clearly saw that this was a deciding game and they do that and that's how they came out and they came out ready and but I also felt like DC they didn't look like themselves in the first half they're known for moving the ball really well in and getting good shots making the right pass and it felt like in the first half they were playing hon of one on one and not moving like they do in making extra passes and it showed because they weren't getting shot and when you're playing a team Connecticut who's great in transition you have to be able to put the ball in the basket and slow them down so I felt like you know Connecticut was able to really do what they wanted to do in the first half but then being a vet- team DC came back out in the second half and just knew what they have to do in turn the tables and we're able to

"A couple of weeks in the midterms this, November we're, lousy with campaign signs right now. We really could rename this the valley of the, sign some cities try to regulate campaign. Some candidates sneaking suspicion this has less to do with, trying to rid us of the signs and more of a wish to rid us of certain candidates someone chopped up Kelli ward sign so that it now reads serve war.
