The Hard Truth of the Marijuana Industry

"Two thousand eighteen. Almost seven hundred thousand people in the us were charged for possession of marijuana. Black people were almost four times more likely to be arrested for possession than white people despite the fact that both groups use marijuana at similar rates for a long time because of the so-called war on drugs of the eighties and nineties. These disparities were the primary story of marijuana people of color in the us. But now that story is. Changing as marijuana is legalized in more states. Across the us and growing into a multibillion dollar industry black entrepreneurs are trying to reclaim the plant that crushed their communities for so long black entrepreneurs like gmo modern. I saw this as an opportunity to say if i watch people my community get arrested for this. Why can't i help people my community enter from the legal quote unquote right governmental legal standpoint of this and seeing where we can seek those opportunities. Jia runs her own. Pr firm gb m. communications and public relation services for marijuana businesses. She started her company in two thousand twelve after working goldman sachs for fifteen years three years after starting her company into the marijuana industry. This was in twenty fifteen. Twenty seven states in dc had either legalized medical marijuana or decriminalized marijuana possession but it was instill is illegal at the federal level. So entering that space meant carrying the stigma of working in what many still considered to be an illegal business. My gut never said. Stop what my gut said is back. Bucks Bounce Back to Beat Nets and Force Game 7

"We begin today with the milwaukee bucks going wire to wire to defeat brooklyn by fifteen points last night. Kevin durant scored thirty two for brooklyn but it took him thirty shots to get it. Chris middleton and janta compo- were much better they combined for sixty eight points and twenty seven rebounds and they shot twenty-three for thirty six wilpon does milwaukee's performance lead you to believe they can go to brooklyn and win game seven they can. Yes tony and you outlined all the important numbers all of them. And then there's one that's even more important it's zero number of three pointers jacked up by answers compo- none he didn't do it. He kept his big strong quick fast. Talented self in the space where he should be. Don't eat what you. I've been screaming for even the previous series. He kept himself near the basket and did his work there and stop jacking up those shots now. We know they can do it will they. I mean that's the first smart gamed. The bucks have played in. This series should have won the series already. If they had taken the same tact particularly with onto the kupu. But i do. I have faith that they will go with that same recipe. I don't know that. I have that faith. What about you. okay. So yes i agree with you that they can win right and one of the ways they could win as if pj tucker was able to do to kevin durant again in game seven what he did in game six. Because tucker was plus thirty and durant was minus seven but mike game six was not critical for brooklyn. They had a game to play with because the critical game for them was game five and they want it so for every home team has won. You have to tell me why that's going to change now. I look back on game five. And i see kevin durant scoring forty nine points. He's a great great player. I somehow have faith that if it's up to him to win game seven at home. He's going to win it.

The Lakers died we should take comfort in the fact that they've been dead for some years now and expectations should have been much lower from the beginning. We should remind ourselves of the great moments that we had throughout the season. In fact, if anybody has fond memories they'd like to share from this season. Feel free to stand and share them. Now. I've got something to say, okay. Try to be strong. I remember like it was just yesterday when when Paul George sided to go back to Oklahoma City. "Twenty two twenty two. Twenty one and a half minutes per game. And everybody else kind of files in and just underneath them. You know, they play all six defense when they play all four lines. And they're are big solid team. They play the right way. They don't cheat. They all bought into what George Galant was selling. And everybody talked about the rallying point last year at the beginning of the season in Vegas, which was just a sad disaster that happened there. But this is a team that that is hard to play against and they don't take shortcuts. They win battles along the boards. Ryan Reeves was a major factor in in this game. He picked up the John was talking about. He did deflect that goal in from the point. They gave it to him. It's fifth goal of the season. This guy that has over a hundred hips in the game in the season. So far carrier the left winger on that line one hundred and twenty two when he had six more hits in this game tonight Ryan Reeves had seven shots on goal. Now. Ryan. Reeves isn't the guy that's going to carry the puck down the ice and dazzle you like Sidney Crosby Patrick Kane. Anything like that? He's going to go to the front of the net. And he's going to challenge you to try and move them out of the front of the net. He had seven shots on goal which was more than anybody in the game. Three more than anybody else. I mean, basically, he just did whatever he wanted to do. We went and stood in front of the net. And nobody was able to move and he was a big factor on several goals in this in this game. He did pick up one but the screen on the power play goal. Little bit earlier in the game. Not a whole lot. You can do Carlson walks in and Ryan Reeves is standing right on the doorstep. Nobody can move them out. You've got to do a better job of trying to protect your goaltender. Corey Crawford was lit up in this game. And I think for him he's you know, kind of a little bit frustrated and what's going on as well. I mean, some of the breakdowns Duncan Keith. Very off game in this. When he was minus three in just twenty minutes of play. He wasn't very good. I mean, those are the key guys at your counting on to be better. But you know, what they've got to figure out what the identity of identity of this team has it's real easy to figure out what the identity of the Vegas Golden Knights. They're going to work hard for sixty minutes, and you're going to have to compete to win hockey games against the Blackhawks weren't willing to compete in the way that Vegas was tonight. And to me that's a little bit disheartening. You know, what you you went down in kind of the manner that I look at it as a broadcaster. It didn't show me that there was a lot there as far as the individual. Pride in how this game was lost. And I know that maybe there's not a whole lot. You can do Vegas just rolled off for lines their top. Talkline really wasn't a huge factor in this game. I thought the markers in the grinders who play a big part of Vegas. We're we're bigger part of this game than what the Blackhawks had from there. Guys who were supposed to do the same on Larry. And I mean a couple one line in particular to a circle back to look pretty decent throughout the game. As a quiet night for tapes. Inside and John Hayden. The Nissan off line with camping Cahoon showed. Well, I thought a little bit early on. But let's circle back to Vegas for just one moment. We've talked about before as they set the standard in terms of effort and playing hard for sixty minutes, but part of that equation too. And and again, all credit to them with the way, they constructed that that roster on the fly in only had a couple of months before their expansion season started what also makes them look so good is is they all seem in sink in nowhere each other. Each player is as they play fast. And that seems to make them more dangerous than on top of that. I noticed this a little bit last year. But then CNN person just about everybody on their roster. They shoot hard. They are hard hard shooters on that Vegas team. And when you put all that together. And you got the guy on the other hand who's won three cups in back in in sync as well. I think that that's the thing that makes it more impressive the way Vegas places. Is you know, you you never see them scrambling very much. No, they don't and. George McPhee did a fantastic job in picking the type of players that that he wanted. First of all this is not a young team. Because of the expansion draft in the rules all the young players around the NHL were exempt from going into the expansion draft. So they didn't have any young players back. There. The youngest guy that they have is Alex talk and he's twenty two years of age their majority of their players are twenty five to thirty type players. Those players weren't the gifted great players. There's there's no superstars on this roster. Yeah. Carlson had a tremendous year last year. But he wasn't anybody. Nope. When they picked him up, they weren't going like, wow. This is a great career goals or some there one superstar that was on there. It was their goaltender Marc Andre Fleury. And he continues to be the backbone of of this franchise and he's the face of the franchise. He's done a fantastic job. They did pick up Patrie in the off season. He was the captain of the Montreal Canadians a year ago, but I think it's a better fit for him. Because he doesn't have to be the the main focus of of what was going on in Montreal. There's a big spotlight on the on the the captain of the Montreal Canadian is I'm not sure that's quite his personality to handle that kind of stuff. They lost to James Neal. They picked up all staff in the off season. Those guys are all hard nose type of players. They're hard to play against and there's no, easy shifts. There's no easy thirty seconds in this hockey game because everybody buys into what drug lot wants to do. And that is to be the hardest working team in the NHL. They're not the most talented team and. You know? That's a fact they're just not the most talented team. You'll even look at their defenseman niche mitt was the seventh defenceman in Washington. Brayden McNabb was an extra thought of player in in LA, Colin Miller, Nick Holden went to a couple of teams last year. But these guys all compete, and they they wanna play for one another and you have to find an identity, if you're the Chicago Blackhawks if you're going to be a real skilled player or team great. That's that's the way you want to do it. But right now, I believe that the Blackhawks are looking for a team identity, and they're wavering a little bit in what they wanna do as far as how they need to play and how they can compete against a team like Vegas. You look at the next two teams that you're going to play against the Nashville predators on Saturday Winnipeg before that on Thursday. Those teams both have an identity as a team that is really tough to play against Chicago has to find that identity, and they have to find that within the shelves that is nothing to do with a coach that isn't it the individual. Players wanting to win battles along the boards. And I'm not seeing that in in a consistent way. And I think it because if you're not seeing that in a consistent way individually. You know, you've had to make changes you've had them you made a trade earlier this week you had to make an adjustment on the coaching staff. But now it's up to the players to look deep within themselves and decide whether they want to compete at the level that you have to what the NHL level and in terms of throughout this game. Jeremy decided the change in goalie after two periods. Give Korea break, Pat, Nettie, we're talking on the TV side a little bit in the third period. Perhaps a little bit surprised that there were no line shakeups. But you know, what at putting myself in Jeremy shoes and believe me, you have a much better perspective of this. But I think it's at the time. Now when you bring in new players, you're trying to find some stability, so guys can begin to learn to work together and have a little bit of consistency. Because shakeups have been going around all season, and I can't necessarily blame. Jeremy I it's time for for guys to start figuring out each other, and who they work well with so I don't know what your thoughts are on that. But no coach wants to make line changes. If everything is working. Well, you're not gonna make line changes. That's just the way it is. Joel Quenneville was still tinkering with you know, who can play with who what chemistry? Are we finding between players on the wing and the Centerman? Jeremy's having the same issues that they have to find some chemistry. I did by the way like the the line of Stroman the middle with debrincat. I thought that they had some sorry. I didn't mean to jump into that. But I would like to see that consistency. But now you've got John Hayden playing on the right wing with Jonathan tapes. And Brandon Saad, you know, if it's not going to be John Hayden who who's going to be in that position. I mean Brennan Pearleen didn't play a big role in this game. And he was playing with Brandon's era. Marcus Krueger, I don't think that's his strong suit of playing with the guy like Marcus Krueger. So you're you're going to have to make some other adjustments to try and figure out where you are in the lineup. Alex, fourteen has had some success in certain areas. But you know, what type of player where is he is? He a bottom third type of forward. Or is he a top six type of forward you kind of got to figure out and that's the hard part for the coaching staff. They're always listen, they're sitting there, and I guarantee Jeremy is sitting any staying up at nights trying to figure out some line combinations. The coaching staff they sit there if everything was going. Well there. They're not gonna make adjustments. You can look at the Vegas golden golden night. And they're not making many line adjustments. Because they don't have to they believe in their line of the top line has been playing the basically together they've got a couple of major injuries to Paul staff knee, and Eric till the had to make a couple of just moments. But when they get those guys back you're going to have some line combinations. That are going to be consistent, but you have to have results out of those line combinations. If you're sitting here, and you're going man, we didn't get much out of inside and Hayden tonight. Why would you keep that line together? You've got to try and keep working things around and try and figure out what combinations work in. It's not easy. Because you know, you're looking at where's the Blackhawks four flying identity that maybe the Vegas has as well. You know, it's just it's it's easier said than done to try and have consistencies in your line combinations. If you're not getting results and kind of growing off that point about trying to find right combinations. And we touched on this withstand. The interview we had with him in the first intermission which will replay later on in the post game show, if something's not working, you know, from higher up standpoint. That's what prompted stand to do what he did in making the deal trying to find some different parts and different bodies who could be potentially part of the equation, not only now, but very much in the future. And I think tonight especially against the caliber of team that the Blackhawks ruppe against, you know, if your if your objective, you could see you know, what the value was in bringing Dylan Stroman and seeing what his potential is to have an impact on this line of based on though. I the way he played tonight in his very first game. Yeah. And I think that you're going to see Dylan Strom get some power play time on the first power play unit wants to. Have an opportunity to kind of work on a little bit more. He got into the into into town yesterday along with per they jumped right on the ice rate from the airport, and they got on there. I think that as you move forward you're gonna and you have to find them in. You've made a a significant move your you've traded away, you know, Nick schmaltz, and there was high expectations for Nick. And they just didn't meet him. You know, when you look around the NHL in the NHL saying, okay? Well, Chicago struggling who on their roster. Do we think that can help our team will Nick schmaltz is one of those guys that somebody is going to take a chance and say, well, we see the potential in Nick schmaltz, we have to get it out of them in our way, it wasn't.

Vegas Chicago Blackhawks John Hayden NHL Ryan Reeves Jeremy Chicago Nick schmaltz Brandon Saad Montreal Carlson Alex Vegas Golden Knights George Galant Corey Crawford CNN Duncan Keith Marc Andre Fleury George McPhee Joel Quenneville
