How a Movement of Cannabis-Fueled Athletes Is Changing the Science of Sports
"Certainly experimented with a lot more more different approaches than just ten to twenty milligram dose of of cbd in writing this book. And i i really thought jus- i like one of the most entertaining. Parts of the book in the early sections was something i was totally unaware of. And that's something called the four twenty games. I didn't know there was such a thing. But i was kind of chuckling reading that section of the book and i'm curious what were the four twenty games those kind of have to do with your initial inspiration for writing this thing. Yeah by that time. I had been using cannabis for a long time personally and had been using it As a runner for maybe about a year at that point and as journalists there been so much to cover in terms of events or news and so for the poor twenty games when it was touring around america in came through boulder was really just another assignment That i had you know. I was curious about other people doing the same thing that high abeille believed i discovered and a lot of people had that story like they thought they were the only ones who like to get high and workout but in terms of a games as competition for twenty games isn't really like it. It's not comparable to the olympics or or any sort of organized sport. It's it's it's more just a An exhibition of of kind There was a four point. Two mile fund. Run run the boulder reservoir when i went there My understanding is that they have bigger events out in la that are a little more competitive But it was there that i met a recall into a wound up being one of the central characters of my book. He's a A very accomplished ultra marathon runner here in colorado and he was kind of one of the celebrity athletes at the port. Twenty games had come out and do the fun run and talk to people and then after the run there were a lot of tables with all of these different products. Couldn't sell any thc products. But there were a lot of non psychoactive products. They're in really. It was my first entry point to this side of the industry Because the cannabis industry have been around for a few years by that point in their been loads of different types of events but a lot of them were kind of more of the high times stone or culture type events not like exercising athletes. You mean right. Even though that's culture existed at and i don't think it was quite as cohesive because of that fact that a lot of people didn't know that the others who are doing the same thing that they were But when i was out there. I met a lot of people who are like. Yeah i like to smoke a joint and then go lift weights. Or i like to take an edible and then go run a trail so that was one of the early moments where i was like may be more than just a quirky thing that i do or that a handful of people do it may be something. That's actually quite popular and profoundly under
Online Poker vs. Live Poker: Why You Should Strike a Balance
"Ultimately for the listener having a balance of playing some online and some life is just really priceless. Because you play a lot more hands on line you learn a lot faster and you know if you're using it as a learning tool you don't even have to play like super big right like you can play smaller and still improve your fundamentals as poker player. That's a really big one. Actually and it was kind of funny for me as i ended up focusing on. Mtv ts later on during the pandemic and realizing like okay. When i'm actually doing this other grind like not only do i not have to play that big for the purposes of improvement or you know sort of dot kind of motive thinking but like at the level of volume. I was playing like i didn't eat. Ab i of an average i into like more than fifty dollars to like have really big swings in like a day or in a week and so it was. It's it's can be kinda deceptive to where like you're not playing that big but suddenly you're playing like for ward eight t simultaneously and it's like okay the like true stakes of what i'm doing right now in terms of like the volatility. If you were to compare it to like one tabling is like you know four to six times more so Yeah i think there's so much value to begin from it. And i always been somebody who bounced back and forth between online and live these like brief stints where i focus pretty much exclusively on online poker Have always been. I've always been really valuable. And i've always represented like the biggest sport in my game whereas the times live. Maybe they represented lake the largest monetary gain. But where i maybe i in stagnated hard. Didn't like leap forward ever In terms of like fundamental than theory. You know i could improve other areas for sure. Like social You know seeking out additional edges like this kind of stuff matters in life poker and it doesn't really exist that much in online but at the same time those things don't further your ability to be games long-term in the same way that having solid fundamentals does having a really good grasp of theory does mean my co-host for tactical tuesday jon has been playing online poker really for the first time in his poker career since the pandemic believe it was like he started coaching with me. An august playing hundred no limit and by january. He's playing one k no limit and like ripped off a fifty k. Win in january and he was recently vaccinated and going back to the live poker streets because that was like where he came from and like he had just started. Shot taking it like live five ten and he's like asking me questions about like you know ten twenty uncapped games and like what are the expected swings. And i'm like dude like it's not as swiggy as you think it is even like ten twenty game you know like you're going to win or lose probably three buy ins on average on a day. It's rare to like swing ten brian's in either direction like very very rare like on two hands. I can count the number of times that. I've swung ten plus by and alive booker session. So like basically you're going to get in there and you're gonna realize like even at ten twenty six had never played before is much smaller than and playing one k. l. four tables at the same time against you know effectively much better

"The next big three shook off a poor start to lead a one oh four ninety three win over the Celtics in game one of the NBA first round series Kevin Durant curry Irving and James harden combined for eighty two points despite going all for eleven from three point range in the first half they sparked an eighteen four run at the start of the second half that provided twenty eight of the next thirty one third quarter points yeah I know I missed a lot of bunnies that feel good leave my hand so but we stuck with our defense we don't let that aren't you know get in the way we want to do out there Irving scored twenty nine points in harden had twenty one Jayson Tatum scored twenty two for the Celtics but shot just six for twenty game two is Tuesday I'm Dave very

Jurgen Klopp Belittles Journalist With Ugly Putdown After Manchester City Defeat
"The first time that you've been on craig since you're klopp and have that show how you describe it kind of attack journalists after the game was on the new tweeted about these against. I think this guy has had more than enough plaudits on deserve them. But quite frankly i think he's rhetoric and has behavioral season has been disgusted. I mean embarrassing condescending. Look i get it i understand. There's no easy when you as a planner as a manager after the game particular manager when you're not playing well and when you have just been smashed by your biggest rivals for the last as i get that it's not easy and you got to go and talk to the rep race and you're going to and talk to the domestic tv and radio then you got to do the foreign broadcast but guess what. Guess what the reason you're able to bring individual dykes and the allison. And the reason you're in such a big salary is because these people pay all the money in domestic broadcast us and global broadcast pale the money and so you can get paid we get paid and so you can go and bring it in big money players and enjoy elite level football. It's not too much to ask to go along and get some the public in a minute. Sixty seconds to questions and he made that clear your club. You can be advocate and you can be tasty and you can keep your short. We don't have to go along and be condescending and rude telling the guy you're not even print job that team point no it's not ten and then he spends the next thirty seconds or twenty seconds. Well your second question already and you had to condescending and it's rude and it's not too much to ask if he doesn't want if he wants to give answers right give answers but he's no bail than the mon- in the league that to talk to the broadcast and fulfil is media duties because these people pay the money helps pay hayes wages and helps pay transfer fees and salaries. So why would he treat many different aurigny different to any other pets. I thought it was rotten. And i'll tell you what. I think we're seeing this guy. No and he's truly the mask has slipped because it doesn't need to done he's got enough money in the bank and i don't mean and financial terms i mean in the results. He's all right. Everybody knows bonn dykes not for. Everybody knows gomez is not for. Everyone knows that it's difficult not expecting him to win. Twenty games role with all these players. Oh no one. But maybe they can expect a common decency when you're talking to reporters and that's what that was locking common decency
Games to look out for in 2021
"What do you think's gonna be your game of the year. What do you think is going to be a big game. That people should look out for all that stuff. It's january six blessing. We really gonna talk about gave you the year already be our early. I mean. I don't know what i mean. You know we already know what some of the major major titles coming out to be right breath of the wild to go to war to halo infinite. We know what the big ones are going to bay. But you know i think what. Twenty twenty tortoise is increasingly The game of the year com can come from left. Field at fog is my personal game in the eighties. Who saw that coming right. That was a that was the it her. A lot of people. Haiti's was a big hit. Would you would you. Would you have predicted that jenny. Six last year. I don't think so. So who the hell knows predictions and trying to make these predictions is a mugs. Game blessing. Stay out of it. Yeah i. I'm really excited for this year. Because i feel like you. Usually at the beginning of previous years we could we. Could i see the future riley. We could easily be like okay. Twenty eight twenty game of the year is probably gonna be between last part two and sarah punk and like of course like we didn't see hades coming and so that stuff does an exciting rental inch into it. Twenty twenty one. I think you can easily be like okay. Got four ragnarok. But i think most of us think that game that game's gonna get laid right. It's like who knows then you have breath awhile while we're still didn't still doesn't technically have release date and so that's another one of we'll see overwatch to is in there too which i expect will be twenty twenty one but again who knows This year is such a mystery for quite a few big games within quite a few games that we've just been anticipating for a while and so. That's that's exciting from that standpoint. Also in terms of games like like you said games that we don't necessarily see coming. There are few indie games. That i'm excited for that. I don't know. I can't predict on a haiti's level or like a fog has level because who knows But there are some indie games. That i think could have the chance to be a a big thing or be exciting. Or maybe reese that game of the year level Twelve minutes a game. That i know a lot of people are looking forward to internet excited for. And that's one that i'm excited for Cava trailer here for a game called she dreams elsewhere which i think i've talked about on shelves before you wanna play the trailer you don't have to play with us playedas and blocking But that's another game that i'm personally excited for. It's a game that is stylized a bit like in under tail or an earthbound. Is that type of game And i've seen at passes before. And i'm very excited about it very much looking forward to it there. Stray which is like kind of a low-key game was at that place. It was at that playstation presentation that they didn't june and i know a lot of people were excited about that and it's like game that people are looking forward to
Phoenix Suns complete trade to acquire Chris Paul from Oklahoma City Thunder
"Right welcome back. Look who's here perk with us Stephen i'm going to start with you on this one. If the nets do get hardened do they need to win the title. This season having this type of talent downright without question. And i'm gonna tell you why because the pressure is going to be immense first of all your k. d. Obviously everybody's looking at you comparing you to lebron and stuff like that Lebron goes and he assembles a big three. Then ultimately you want up to him and went to golden state and gave the ultimate big three. Lebron sits up de a d. is now in. La so you go to brooklyn you got kyri and then you get a james heart so the pressure will be immense on him. This guy read because of all the things that max has titillated throughout the years and to a lesser degree kendrick perkins when you talk about the lack of leadership there kyri urban may have shown from time to time. He elected to leave cleveland. The go to boston. The situation in boston didn't work out. He goes to brooklyn the only place. Twenty games helped was an issue and all of that stuff plus. He made some headlines. That's an issue. And then you've got james hearted remember. James harden didn't want the white how houston Ultimately he didn't want chris paul in houston and then obviously even though again and kendrick perkins knows this far better than me because he has those relationships with these guys. In particular russell westbrook russell westbrook made sure to reiterate to me. Listen his relationship. With james harden is as is big tom their brothers and they're gonna always be brothers. We did not talk about basketball. Just a relationship that he has with james harden which also articulated over social media. I by the way his relationship with james harden they are brothers and they are tight but that doesn't mean they want to play together so as a result of that rests with westbrook is planning on moving on as a result of him. Moving on james harden is moving on. And so there's going to be some pressure to bear because with all of this money that harden and k. d. and career getting paid along with the expectations. Let's bring in the last element you in brooklyn. New york utah. You're even denver. You're in the mecca the media capital. Now obviously the knicks are in new york city madison square. Got it but we should all be allergic to mentioning championship protection at a new york. Nixon brett at least at this moment atop the faith man leon roads and we'll worldwide west but the bottom line is is blasphemous sacrilegious to talk championships. And and the knicks but brooklyn fall weighs less than ten miles is less than ten miles away. It's still a part of brooklyn one of the five boroughs and there is going to be are meant pressure on manse. If the three of them larry know why go give it their. Kp might be right about this guy at five in milwaukee we might see silly. Do some things we know. Lebron is at whatever but if those three assemble no one is going to be interested in any stupendous as to why they did not win after three guys. You damn right. They need to win the chip because the world the world will be watching. First of all brooklyn is even thirstier for a championship. And i think is a bigger deal than a team winning in manhattan in the sense that brooklyn hasn't had a championship in sixty five years. Since the dodgers left brooklyn in fifty seven but they want and fifty five to go to air like that. But the knicks. You're right it's been almost forty eight years for the knicks but brooklyn is the nets or the team in new york. The knicks don't even exist compared to the nets right now and let me say this. There is immense pressure for them. To win you're right stephen while they're together i'm here saying it doesn't need to be in the first year for example if hardened goes to brooklyn and they lose in the finals and a tough series to the lakers. A team like that. It's all right but they have to win while they're together. Even this year's lakers team. I didn't pick them because it's hard to just throw a team together with guys have been played together. Get all the complimentary pieces right. Get it all right to go all the way. We saw that with lebron and his return to. Cleveland went to a game six of course they had injuries on that team. But that's part of it is coming off the catastrophic injury and we saw it again a result before that when lebron showed up miami with the big three it some it takes some times a year to get it right with guys playing together so i would say while there's enormous pressure for them to win while they're together because k. d. if he's most of themselves even is an mvp caliber player so is hardened and kyri may not be an mvp but he's more than just an all star he's all star plus you have to. Mvp caliber players an all star. And then some you're supposed to win a championship to gather. I don't think it has to be in the first year. And i wouldn't say that it's the kind of pressure for example when katie went to golden state. It's like there was more downside. Like guys you have to win it. If you don't win a championship that sorry i wouldn't. I don't think people will be looking at this team like that. Sorry if you don't wanna chip you gotta get outta the east

It's gonna come to playstation five as well. But i will tell you that it is something that i think. A lotta people need to go out of the way to play. It's one of the better games of this year. That's come out a lot of reviews of behind it and on a new generation platform. Give it a try yakuza. Like a dragon when it comes out to either the playstation four xbox series x and also later on playstation five. so hopefully. You will get a chance if you want to delve into it. Like n-o-a-a has without getting your fingers chopped off. Hopefully you'll get a chance to go ahead and give it a world as
All evidence points to the Big Ten being the best league in America for a second straight season
"Today, turn our attention to the big ten where I have Iowa winning the regular season title while Norlander has pegged Illinois as the. Favourite and Wisconsin to finish second. So let's start there. Norrland explain to me why you're being totally disrespectful the frame McCaffrey to Luca Garza to this public research university that was founded in eighteen forty seven at CBS sports me Jerry Paul David all have Iowa in the top two but you and strong JAL cow bone have Iowa third in the big ten. Explain Yourself. This is gene wilders Al-Matar we're talking about for crying out loud. Oh, there we go. Something tells them you've been snooping around the Iowa wikipedia page. That's where I get all my goodland ACM forty, seven trivia gets on. What's the oldest institution in the Big Ten? Let's let's what do we think it is big ten rules. What's two oldest one founded first? What's our guest founded? I I'm running through right now I'm going to say it's Penn State Penn. State's your guests I'm going to go. I'M GONNA go man is a tough one I'm going to say. That's a good one. I'M GONNA say Michigan I'M GONNA Michigan sealed list no idea by the way no idea someone chips someone pleads tweet us and let us know I don't know when the oldest we could. Actually we could go and look through all the wikipedia pages in real time here. But let's let's make a fun quick podcast here you want to know why I have. Iowa. Third I'll let you WanNa know what that's what I want. That's what you want to I'll let you know that I talked with Sam visine yesterday good old Sam. Who May who may appear on this podcast remember never know it's always out there. He actually asked me where I have Iowa in my one, two, three, fifty seven and I said, well, I'm GonNa have them in the top ten but I'm actually going to have them behind. Illinois in Wisconsin. He goes. You're absolutely right and I don't know how many people are gonNA. Agree with you. But I'm with you hundred percent and the reason why is this this team has the preseason national player of the year and Luca Garza it's got a great talent and Joe Camp. Jordan bohannon terrific Khanna McCaffrey. Great. But defensively, there's enough there that are not there that I'm going to. Just sell a bit on a twenty eleven team from last season ninety, seven defensive efficiency at Ken Palm. I like Wisconsin's overall team just a smidge better smidge and I do like Illinois I think he's GonNa be the best team in the big ten. So I love that we have we need some more genuine disagreement on the podcast here I've got Illinois definitely as the as the best team in the big ten and then Wisconsin and then Iowa. But in the Grand Scheme of the sport, I, think those are three of the ten best teams in college basketball. We agree on that have Iowa fifth in the top twenty five in one. Illinois six and Wisconsin Tint So. You know. We're all in the same ballpark and I do think you can reasonably despite. My anger at the top of the podcast I do think you can reasonably have those three teams in. Any order as for Iowa. Five players last season start at least twenty games all five or back plus they get Jordan Bohannon Beck, they finish twenty third at. Kim. Tom. But they were 97th in defense of efficiency and quite clearly if you're trying to look for a reason why Iowa isn't actually going to break through and make the final four for the first time since nineteen eighty. Where you start is on the defensive side of the ball ninety seven defensive efficiency. It's hard to be great when you are that bad on the defensive end of the court,

I haven't it's been on, you know a very long list of twos, but I able to probably won't come anytime soon but I do love Halo and I think it's awesome that they've continued to. You know obviously take their main mainstay franchise in keep it updated. You know when they remastered that content. Great but now In, lieu of being launched with xbox series snl it's going to be nice. Hopefully have this. The lean on an saw that hale marketing we see out there is. Kinda. True. They're they're really on Halo for like showing their new thing like when Was it three sixty backwards compatibility. Only worked with Halo One and two at first and then. And then like. Part of backwards apparently, this time around has been halo, and then again, this this as a smart delivery centerpiece, Halo a lot of sets. It is cool that led. They're like they're going forward. They're going like, Hey, let's do because I time they said like. Sony or Microsoft Says Floor One, hundred, twenty, five pm like. Yeah, sure. Rally that. There are actually gonNA show it like, Hey, this is what you actually do. Need the by two point one, four than cool. I'm glad that like they're doing that was something. Yeah. It's nice to have actually like a legit. You know salad multiplayer experience running hopefully at a consistent hundred and twenty. Frames and for you if you buy that new TV to be able to actually see that because I don't know what other multiplayer games shooters are going to be one twenty hertz at this point I don't know heard of any yet. I'm sure there will be some but I. Don't know that there. Well, showpiece I. Both platforms the fact is is fully optimized. It seems to be saying it will be one hundred twenty frames on both, but only be up to four K. on the series x little. There's like heavy details on this though by the way, the tweet zero, it pretty much just a tweet with some check marks and like wearily somebody else tweeted it like just before the exact same tweet, a couple of minutes beforehand. So myself set the league or something. Yeah, but is it is cool that doing this I don't expect most games. We'll do it in the future. I expect that like maybe some remastered here and there. But like we're not GONNA get one twenty F- on Mike? I would if we get a hundred twenty F- bs on. More. Than Twenty Retail Games I would be shot. In the whole generation. Yes. I don't think that'd be because I think that you're going to see people start the. Co optimize like because I. Feel like we're going back to what got me like a lot of hot water the last time I was on the show just reminded people that like, Hey, if you buy a three hundred dollar machine versus the five hundred dollar one, we'll you might want to be aware that it may not be as powerful as the five hundred dollar one that's always trying to say between the S. and the X. Right and there was just a slew of comments like Fran is an idiot and Get. It my point I, was trying to make was you'll see like this is up to four K.. It's awesome that you're going to see one hundred twenty optimize on an older game. But where I'm going with this I do think you'll see a new games that maybe on the the. Again I'm just speculating I'm not saying S is not capable depending on what they do, but it won't be as capable US how it works. Of course, not of course, I wouldn't people Nydia like. The processor is going to be better, which is the main thing, the frame rates, GonNa depend on and like to be clear what I'm saying like. Twenty Games. I mean like games built for this generation not like games that were from last whipping up right. When you say the process you better you're saying in the s any X, right? Yes both. Share the same process or Family. They do. Yeah. It's a slate under clocking. Yeah. It's just a few. You know point to hurts difference basically right but we're to finish the thought what I was saying is. I do think you will see what's get to the point where coastal lake to see where it's like Oh. Yeah it runs in. I'm just GONNA use the analogy like medium settings on the xbox series x and it'll be a hundred twenty I. think you'll see those opportunities almost certainly on the series x we'll. We see it as often on the S I don't know and I'm not knocking it for that I. do think it's incredible value. It is unbelievable value. I should actually say I've said it many times it's unreal that there's a three hundred hour console that is going to be as powerful. And Slick, as the seems to be. So

"The comforts that you would normally have it into a routine and routines are crucial for professional athletes it's it's so important to be able to maintain that everything's going to be different if anything it should add to whoever wins the championship this year it's going to be so it's going to be a completely different environment to have to overcome I mean we don't talk about any of the shortened seasons the the Nasrec on any of those seasons the ninety nine season with the stars at the two thousand eleven thousand so no one ever mentions it was a shortened season for the bonds first championship so it it it it's just silly the pelicans on imitation to Orlando to restart and they will be battling for that final playoff spot in the west they'll probably need to win at least five of their eight remaining games to stay within for Memphis and invoke a play in series for the final CD the details of who New Orleans will play will still need to be ironed out but the clippers are the only top seed remaining on their schedule cans would be playing mostly lower seeded teams including San Antonio who just lost the market's Aldridge for this season so the west seats eight to thirteen of the Grizzlies at eight four three and a half games over Portland Blazers at nine in the pelicans attend kings spurs and sons they're all within a half game of each other nine seed look at design on its power I apologize to our radio audience he doesn't even he doesn't look like either what what not this one what what's not this block this is difficult I think but let's watch the next one just watch this just hours how strong he is is a nineteen years old look at this he's just he has a natural electrical stimulation plan was gas yeah well I hope we get to see him in the playoffs but it's looking like it's winding up but if they if they win the games are supposed to win they'll have a good opportunity to make it and so Joe the news well that's the news thanks for stopping by get your free credit score card today even if you're not a discover customer learn more at discover dot com slash credit score card limitations apply he's been covering the NBA since the nineties LA a New York times LA Daily News got a podcast the full forty eight with Howard back and he joins us with the character Howard the fire in the lead I would have gone eighteen sixteen let's go right to the playoffs create urgency I don't want to risk any more games of coal van door guys getting hurt but they're gonna go twenty two games how does it land for you like it or not no hello no I'm with you on this one I thought that the most streamlined the most straightforward and the safest approach was sixteen teams the eight top eight news conference as it stood on March eleventh when the season was suspended and I would say even go to back to the old best of five first round which is a lot more fun and more dramatic anyway and get through this as quickly as you can while still keeping the integrity of the post season intact but more teams more bodies means more risk that's just the basic math and science of this it's undeniable and the NBA of course will do everything possible to keep it safe I understand that and I understand the twenty two teams means more games means more revenue and that's really really important and it is the driving reason to have twenty two instead of sixteen but yeah if we were going to be doing this it surely in deference to the situation as it exists now the corona virus and the pandemic and the reason you were shut down in the first place then you would go with fewer teams and less risk but I understand why they need to go to twenty two you know you you guys and I'm trying to kind of figure out this is obviously so different who gets an advantage and I keep going back to the Lakers are an old team and they didn't have to grind another twenty games out and it also will shorten practices who are the smarter guys in this league the veterans guys that have been around and you got rondo's and Danny green's on lebron James I can make the argument Howard this has been a huge break for the Lakers is that is that the team or is there another team you think that this time off was actually a little convenient a break for them well this is like the grand reset this is like taking your old video game system click on the reset button everybody's healthy now Simmons and Embiid were banged up they're healthy Yanis under control had a bad knee that had kept him out for a couple games we don't know how much longer would be yeah this is presumably healthy now now the spurs lost market alters the surgery during the shutdown Bogdanovich of the jazz but everybody else Colin has just gotten healthy so it benefits everyone equally in that regard I think you touch on one aspect of this which is the teams that are smart and veteran teams that have a ton of postseason experience as the Lakers do maybe that benefits you because you've been in more situations and you'll adapt better to this weird bubble environments in Orlando but we're all just guessing here let's face it is it easier for a younger team a stronger team to jump back into full speed basketball after months off is it harder on the older players because they got older creek your bones and ligaments I mean I don't think we really no I don't think that there are there are there are good answers to any of this we won't know until they actually get to the bubble and we see them play yeah like Toronto by the way veteran team I mean if the veteran thing matters it could be a raptors Lakers final because they got you got a bunch of smart due to have been around the league a long time Howard back joining us now that were you know there's there's been people that and I'm one of them that I thought let's get this going as fast as we can the virus perhaps is weakened by heat you know let let's let's get him going July tenth it's going to be July thirty first will be in the cross hairs of the World Series of the NFL season I guess this is the best they can do do you think the NBA wasted a little bit too much time in rebooting in your opinion no absolutely not I'm you're the first you have to wait for the situation on the ground to change right it's that whole a phrase about it's not about the date it's about the data so first you had to to get things to a certain point with regard to the pandemic to be able to feel like this was safe but there's also a lot of planning and run up that's required yeah he's never done this yes thirty teams are pretty close to it go to summer league but those are NBA teams those are some rookies and a bunch of free agents and they've had in Vegas for years they've never done this call in this is brand new they've never brought twenty two full NBA caliber teams with their staffs and all that it entails and played actual games were real regular season or playoff games in a neutral site for three months potentially that's you know that that requires a lot of planning and so on top of that these players need time to get back up to speed they've never been off this long this is not like an off season we're still playing pick up and you still have access to gyms and your team practice facility no they've got nothing a lot of these guys didn't have a basket to shoot at much less all the other training equipment that they need so if you're going to make sure that you are doing as much as you can to minimize injury and and take care of these players you gotta give them plenty of time and you need the two weeks of course you once they arrive so it this is this is the the best I think they could have done under the circumstances to Kevin Durant's like I'm shut down I'm not playing if somebody argue the other days have like four hundred days off it was Chris Broussard do you come back I I don't have a problem I kind of feel like for the warriors and Kevin Durant the whole thing is just kind of a let's.

"That's not good because then you don't get an automatic bid to the German and Horizon Lakes had baseball teams for quite some time. Now and I mean seven is GonNa be weird because you can't really have you know home and home series of all at least when Cleveland State was in. But I'm sorry that's not the point but it'll be non it'll be nice to have a close fo and Fort Wayne and you know it won't be as close as Northern Kentucky and Cincinnati but hey it's it is a nice addition logistically. It's right in the middle of all the schools. I mean it's right there. I'll be honest with you. The rising linguists looking forbids one of the bids came from Fort Wayne For the men's and women's basketball tournament after it was decided they would not go back to. Detroit and you look at logistically. It's It's right there in the Middle. You know pretty much all schools Location wise. So it'll be a right. It'll be interesting to see how they is in even in basketball How they're able to Make the schedule. Because you have an odd number of teams now and you would have eleven teams Both women's and men's basketball. So you're playing. You know ten other teams twice so from what I understand. It will be at Twenty Game League schedule. You know next year which means sweat to less games on the in the non conference season. Which I that's debatable. Lee Lot. Some coaches say. They're okay with it and some don't like it Next year also The Summit League and Horizon League challenge or whatever. They're calling it Where you'll play a game against the team from the Summit League you know so there's you know there's already another game you know taken up between the two between the two weeks. I mean that's pretty cool but the travel on that for some of the Horizon League teams that have to go west. I mean your closest photos Mental Noise and Yeah I think southern Utah still in the summit Not Sure There have been some changes over the years. Scores Fort Wayne is leaving the summit league. But if you look at matchups you would think right now because of the relationship. That coach Nagy had South Dakota state. Who was in the parentally every year? Now is the right up there at the top of the League Would they match up South Dakota State Rights State and also Coming to the League next year in the Summit League is Kansas City. Where former state head coach? Billy Donlon is they head coach now. So they'll they'll be leaving The Western Athletic Conference. I believe is where they're now moving back to the summit. That'd be pretty interesting match up to because coach. Donlan you know his biggest bread and butter calling the defense and you could clear the seat on the court. Yeah that's true that's true so it'll be interesting to see what they do you know as far as scheduling concern next year. You know and how it's going to affect the nonleague schedule because that's really important in terms of which you talked about now use the nets To be able to rank these teams. You know come tournaments on. This is a question now left field but if you had the power to add a twelfth team and the Horizon League to make it even who you inviting and why. Oh man you're right that is feel that sound. That sounds the bleachers -ly. I Hey know there's so I mean that's good I mean there's so much involved know teams being able to leave leagues. You know what their needs are which sports they have traveled. Schedules going to be concerned. But you know if you just had to ask me you know right off the top you know because I like the way. The League is setup. You know with the larger mostly for the larger metropolitan areas and travel partners. You know I I think that's great I would I would I tell you? I know it's a little out of the way but I really like Murray State I think they're very good year in basketball. They would be they would be awesome. You know it'd be able to get into this league. I believe that and You know you look around the OVC. The Ohio Valley Conference has some pretty good teams and You know some of them. Aren't that far away and I definitely would think something like that or even you know it seemed like Robert Morris out of Pittsburgh. You know who's said some success for a while. They fit that criteria. You know if it's in a large metropolitan area you know and they could be on there their proximity close to Youngstown as well as Cleveland State. So you know. There's a couple of the schools. I think that would fit. You know but you just don't know what's GonNa Happen. It's musical chairs times. We Talk About Coaching Carousel the player transfer portal and the conference shuffle to. That's big in there and I always thought in a Horizon League's always you know. Been a conference. I like just because they have these teams in big cities like Green Bay. Milwaukee Chicago Dayton Indianapolis now Detroit. I mean you got some big cities in there. I don't know how many folks know about that. They don't and that's something that the League continues to pride themselves on You look even when Butler left Before I came into the latest few years ago Leaks decided to stay. Keep their offices in Indianapolis which let's face it you know that's where the NCWA offices are also Great town okay. That was born there so you know. I have a lot of good things to say about Indianapolis but You know the big cities. There's something that They promote an opportunity again. You can get lost in the Shuffle. You know at times For Years Butler was on the shadows Indiana University Purdue Notre Dame and the State of Indiana but until Gordon Hayward Shelvin Mack and companies showed up in along with Brad Stevens. Sunday went to back to back final four. You know that. Got Them some national notoriety and they took advantage of it to the Atlantic. Ten for one year then moved onto the big east where you know They're able to pull in a big. Tv money from Fox you know. It's a really help their program for all so you know it's about being at the right place at the right time and Having the individuals who you know. Are there on your team to get you to a point to wear you know. Use that opportunity to to move on and yeah. I like to these big schools. Because let's face it. I mean these schools but to these big cities you know Li. I mean you've been a few of them around the Uganda. Some of the rogue a right state. You know you could end up going like in some conferences to these schools way out. I mean we've done that in non league games you know. They're they're nowhere near any like I said earlier the first game I went to mount pleasant. You know up in Michigan you know you think you get Detroit. You're close you're really not you know. You GotTa go towards Lansing than head up north again up to the you know the central part of the state and it's a long way in its out kind of the middle of nowhere so we're very fortunate to have these teams and larger market areas. And you know you don't feel like you know you're out cornfield somewhere but it's mount pleasant. I mean that's a great first tremendous tremendous history to they've had an outstanding baseball programs football. You know they had some great great teams. You know over the years from the mid American conference any believing you know. It's out there a long way to get there but They have been a great you know. Ncw school over the years in factly Somebody I'm sure you looked up to as far as broadcasters you know who started there and went there Dick Burke you know a central Michigan. That's all right. I forgot about that that there. You go absolutely so outside right state outside. Who and you touched on this. In the beginning about your beginning in broadcasting. What else have you done in your career? Go Man Oh shame. Shame mention this or not no. I'm not you have to do what you gotta do. Okay like I said you know when I got married you know next to nothing. You know My wife had a little girl was nine months old. At the time and We knew each other three months and we got buried and adopted her. You know a few years later you know we had a little boy also and they're all grown up now all right. They're adults and I have grandkids now but Life goes by fast. But you know sometimes I had to drop out because I wasn't making a whole lot and I question if I was ever going to move on and have an opportunity to do what I wanted to do. Because let's face it a best ones to appreciative right. Now that I have given that opportunity is a lot of people. Don't get that and they really don't and I'm very thankful for that but I I got out for a while and I worked at McDonalds. I was a manager for McDonald's suffer a few years I also got out and worked for a company called super subsidies for a while before I got back into radio for good back in the early. Nineteen Ninety S so. I've been very fortunate to have been employed doing things that I really enjoy doing since the early. Nineteen nineties but Work Fast Food Was a manager. You know did what I had to do. Some odd jobs and Backley My Old High School baseball coach back a late. Ninety s asked to be assistant with him at Sinclair Community College so in in addition to working ill at the time I just started deal fulltime with a mix one of seven seven and just a few years before I started doing right state basketball. You know he asked me to be an assistant baseball coach with him and I cherish that. I really love that and get paid a whole lot. A not not at all so as for the love of the game and just an opportunity to make a few bucks here and there but it wasn't much so I gave up my weekends to be with these guys you know in the spring and the fall But it's something that I'm glad I did because you know it really makes me appreciate you know the opportunities that have been afforded over the years but like. I said I love baseball. I couldn't turn down that opportunity and Co chairperson. God rest his soul Passed away about five. I don't like ten years ago and You know I really appreciated him. Thinking of being giving me that opportunity and before I continue on I definitely deserve it because I I love listening to you. Call Right State Games and you know when you're on W. H. O. W. H. I. O. Rather it's like. Hey I know that guy. He calls right that games off. Reshape that Lee. Thank you that means a lot now. Also you mentioned someone that helped you out and who's passed away. There's also someone I wanNA bring up on this episode Mad Sirker. He passed away Last week now but definitely definitely a guy that got things done at Wright state and northwestern Ohio when he got that job at the dragons to he was an official score so it was fun being in the same room with. I'm talking ball so I'm glad you brought that up Somebody who doesn't like to be talked about as you. Well know you worked with him for a long time and you know when I when I learned of his passing you know I was shocked. Like everybody was but That's the kind of guy who use the perfectionist. Love Love Sports. You know you ask him any question Trivia you ask him any question about stats. I mean he instantly had an answer for you in if you didn't he looked it up and he got it quickly and he was able to help you out. S all he wanted to. Do you know from my standpoint. You know calling games or whatever if you had a question you ask Matt. He was able to deliver and he never wanted to take credit for anything he never did. He didn't WanNa make a big issue about himself. Either but you know they have that opportunity to to work with someone like that. It was so selfless you know in the He cared about was You know helping out others you know and it's just so tragic you know. We know what happened to him? He was taken from us. But you know he'll always you know the memories you know you never know what impact these had you know. Wants some of the people whose lives that. He's touched while he was here on the service..

"Six zero five ninety good afternoon sports Amigos J. stick in my manager Clements you're talking sports till six o'clock and how are you my man doing great today had a spirited debate with market Melinda earlier today watched all the game last night and I'm telling you what we I gave you that fact that I so I got a message today from a friend what did you mention that Justin Verlander was my World Series you were a big hole in my dad died listen facts are facts and is now in five for World Series and I think the Astros are in big big trouble the the first and only pitcher ever to go and five in isn't in the World Series starts yet today is a good day if your Justin Verlander you just because they're in the mirror and say I am married to Kate Upton I am married to take us to item and you go check your bank account and then you go back and you say I am married to cater because it wasn't like it wasn't a disastrous outing for him you know to a rough start there a couple of bad pitches couple three bad pitches is all yeah right rough start with the ashes got even bottom of the inning Brett Bregman had said to run bomb that could could have been three how to basically just gotten thrown out stealing then that's fine and then you know you give the game comes out for the seven gives up that that bomb to Suzuki walks a guy gets out of there and then the answer is not like did they they scored what six there in in the inning and by the end of the seventh it was her he was eighty two it's not like they were blasted him out of the park in the seventy there was just like you know a little the infield hit the area and they have you know a blue in the parking brake Bregman tough play right right up playing awfully in there but yeah and then give my head the bottom line for me is you know what the Astros are getting is a team were with runners on base now one twenty seven later one two seven and this is the first time I believe since sixty five that a home team with two twenty game winners both of pictures of loss again the last last time it happened sandy Koufax and don Drysdale for the legendary Los Angeles Dodgers level yeah five or sixty six yeah there's some history stacking up against the Astros here and we and we love to hear from you eight three six zero five ninety is it over I mean that is it well least there's next year already for the asset over when the Japanese were the German I mean do you think they can they can come back that I've I looked it up there's and I'm sure the status everywhere today it's happened thirteen times where team has been down to and has come back to win this is an all series not just in the World Series but it most of them were a long time the last time was the for red Sox pretty famously verses the Yankees came all the way back in the ALCS verses a new universe the Yankees they're less than half of the World Series the ninety six Yankees were down to to the Braves won four in a row and in fact two of the next three World Series so it can have happening is on an eight game when doesn't believe what I got I mean really game when something about that until today the yeah they haven't lost since game three verses the Dodgers that not phenomenal yeah on him that and that includes they were six outs away from being eliminated twice before those Dodgers they just I mean absolutely steamrolled the cardinals in the NLCS but yeah they I mean I don't know if it's a team of destiny sort of thing are they actually I mean I think that the Astors been such accuse huge favorite was not war to this team since the all star break was basically as good as the Astros I I think you're exactly right on that nineteen and thirty one start gonna be submerged their reputation was Strasbourg last night yeah I just I I just think they're very good team but they have been under the radar under the radar in the National League they were under the radar because we talked about the Braves we talked about the Dodgers we didn't talk about the national very much on it because you've got you talked about a lot of your previous radio show but Bob having the but the boss of me locked up doing DC radio is my punishment for two years and then they were there and they're under the radar but I think they are the team a densely wooded small so last night they need to play the more they want to plan a more they don't dare off well in a in so yeah this is an interesting thing the daily Martinez manager for the nationals he's gonna send out Annabel Sanchez to start game three instead I'm in their normal rotation has been shares are Strasbourg and then they would go to court and that was sort of their big three Sanchez is their fourth starter in in the World Series sometimes you can just skip over that fourth guy no animal Sanchez is good pitcher tact with his last game versus the cardinals it was nearly a no hitter yeah he was a you know he was very very very good but the fact that I mean in Corbin they use them out of relief and I think that's the idea now is they're gonna put Sanchez in at the beginning of the game and and use Corbin out of in release I don't know if you will just not start another game and maybe they go back to Sir is for game four is the world over here this weekend my game I'm that that's one and now I'm just like please get back to Houston yeah see more baseball I don't want this to happen this weekend and in DC I don't want this to happen you know what I'm for the Astros I lack the Astros in our body Reid Ryan and all the great stuff but I'm sort of dig in that home run stuff they do after the nationals at home run those guys are having fun to remind me play your softball league yeah yeah yeah I mean I wish we'd hit home runs of the awesome but yeah if it doesn't you're absolutely right it seems like this team and it's it's I feel like it might be a little too much hot take culture to say since Bryce Harper left all of a sudden this team is a lot looser there's more of this kind of a family you know get out of environment on Strasbourg when he comes out of the game is it's at once again as a part of the name of the like there's a big hug yeah I have a four way hung in the dugout after yeah after he's he's pulled from the game and there were in the funky glasses last night right right let it cool this game was played in a Disney movie the the you know the nationals with obviously when they probably go seven can we get it to seven that's fine and a yeah it's just I mean I mean it's unfortunate for the Astros to to run into this you know sort of sort of destiny train if you will of this time Astros gotta get the batch rolling because out to Vegas and even I'll do we have to make a home run Saturday he's not hitting the ball as well well yeah you're right I was hitting is the problem is they you know versus shares are for sure and even versus Strasbourg they get guys on you know and have opportunities and those guys are able to to work their way out of those jams and the fact that they've gotten to the bullpens relatively early yes I give these guys a throw in a nine inning games against it but that it's just too late for him only eight time and I think sixty four tries have they gotten the guys in you know have have they've they've they've delivered Hey coming up at five oh three this is for a off the off the off the grid little bit but we're gonna visit with Dick Anderson who lives here in Austin now he's a former SMU football player he was he's in real estate now commercial real estate great guy he was supposed to play his senior year of football at SMU but the death penalty came along and we're gonna talk to Dick Anderson about the death penalty he was featured in the thirty for thirty on ESPN and talk about this year's SMU Mustangs right go after their eighth when a year tonight in Houston against the Houston cougar number sixteen in the country former longhorn chambers shell is the quarterback "Then, as of right now, at least is Edwin, Encarnacion trout's, eat twenty Homer season ties him with Tim salmon for the most twenty home run seasons in angels franchise history. And remember he's only playing in his ninth season right now. And how far does he have to go for the further records? Awhile Hank Aaron had twenty twenty Homer seasons. Very. Bonds at nineteen and then Frank Robinson, Willie Mays had seventeen each so I think Trump can get there at least into that top, maybe fifteen kind of list, but pretty crazy where he is already number one. Number one is thirty two. That's how many home runs the Yankees have hit in their last twenty games. They have an active twenty game home run streak right now. It's the twenty four th street in the majors of at least twenty straight games with a home run and the second longest streak in Yankees history. The hit a home run in twenty five straight games in nineteen forty one which was a record at the time and is now tied for the second longest streak in. We'll be history the longest streak belongs to the two thousand two Rangers who homered in twenty seven straight games. And this is already the second twenty game home run streak. We've seen this season. You remember the Mariners had that twenty game streak to start the season last year. There was just one home run streak by team of at least twenty games. It was twenty three games from the dodgers, and it didn't start in. Until mid August. Pretty remarkable, and we know that's just gonna continue as we move forward. I was talking with Dave about Matt carpenter's bunt, double that he had in how Matt carpenter someone who gets shifted a lot. And it sounds like based on what he said after the game last night..

"Twenty games. He's also struck out twenty eight times in those eighty three plate appearances while drawing only fourteen walks buy or sell the Phillies should be concerned with the recent performance of Bryce Harper. I asked that exact question of Jim today on CBS sports, you we have them here on the program. A lot too. Funny stories to he thought he was coming on the radio show is going to be on camera until a few minutes before as I understand it because he's a friend of the raiders, we have them all the time and I asked him shoot should should we be about Bryce Harper. Chevy concern is a guy that doesn't both my fantasy baseball leagues, and he gave me the same answer. I'm going to give so he pointed out that Bryce Harper does that, that he's inconsistent that he goes in these folks, and that he has similar equal opposite surges of excellence to offset what he does even last year's put on quote poor season. If you look at batting average, had an amazing on base percentage. So I think he's going to figure out. I think he's going to get there. We've seen oh Giancarlo stands. Great example, guys, who get these contracts who go to a place. Now the Yankees were different league, obviously, but it was still going to be gang keys, and Geeta. The delta you're going in division to the fate and Phillies as an astral, Ciller level of not just the money, but the pressure, I think those cops make sense. And I think like with Han, he's going to figure it out. "Calling in after the post game show. You don't even say there are highlights of this game. How can there be highlights between well the nets? And that's listen. I mean, they're competitive. And of course, we want to change that narrative, we want to change that culture. They're developing. And I guess you Cleveland is not even that good. They're not even developing. What is it? What it is is bad team ready. And but nonetheless, the nets are going to make the postseason take a look at the Eastern Conference. And where are they number seven? I think right now, but there's about five or six teams that are all within three or four games in the loss column. So it is a playoff run. Now that the nets are going to have to make an uphill. How many games are left? What is it? Eighteen nineteen twenty games whatever it is with their record. But the bottom line is they have to they have to make sure they play good basketball as I break it down. All right to the phones, we go and Erin is calling for Manhattan Aaron calling from the city that never sleeps. Erin. Hey, Steve Aaron. Yes. This is Arad first time very long time. It's a pleasure to speak to you schmooze. Well, same here. Aaron what can you say Tom short as my I noted thank you so much. Thanks again. I just wanna know briefly. What's the status? Is he all healthy and ready to go for the? Yes, they'll be very, yes. They are Erin and thanks for your call. They're going to be very cautious with him because of the heart situation that he had and it won't hurt for him to pass on captain crunch, and maybe have a salad once in a while lose a few pounds. Just to relieve any pressure on the body parts. Nick is calling from Bogota New Jersey. Nick Carolina fan was happening. Neck. Sorry tation. Steve. How're you doing? Hey, what can you say? Everything is good. Wonderful. Thank you. Sharon that you know, what this Yankee pitcher situation GIO Gonzalez. I mean. I understand what we have as far as. Even when Gumri coming up, probably midsummer keratin. But but Montgomery who listen for ten seconds. We got to see him. He gets hurt. He misses last year about he is not supposedly from what I understand Montgomery isn't supposed to be ready until around the all star break, correct. Like, ten seconds. He did show the same ten seconds avoid show. But. The challenge is a proven commodity. You know, what you're getting from him. And I think you can get. Go ahead. Testing one. Dear because right now. Rate anywhere. He's on the nowhere. Nobody wants them. There's just you know. Well, here's the thing. I mean at this point and not knowing just how long Severino is going to be out. You don't wanna panic or overreact. It's I mean at the moment, the they will go with Sesa, and you know, who who's last name I can't pronounce and one of the and listen they're going to try them, hopefully, less instead of more. So, but again, it really depends on with Severino. Now if God forbid another starter goes down for whatever reason or misses a start or two or three near not with the right rotation that you really want to start the season. Then maybe you would consider if Gonzalez Anna kaikal still on the market. Kenny is calling from freehold Kenny you're on the fan. What's happening? How you it's a pleasure to talk to you again. Pleasure. I'm a part time. So it's a it's a I certainly appreciate hearing you and thanks for taking the call, sir. Making for sure go ahead and so big Mets fan, and I'm actually a big time European soccer fan as well. And I wanted to get your thoughts on some ideas about how to. Shortened the the game in baseball. And in European soccer. What they do is they limit the number of substitution that you can have in a game. And how how do you think that would be baseball? Well, see you're actually talking to somebody first of all I don't know of soccer would work within a baseball game. Now, just joking. The bottom line is. Maybe you give some incentive to major league baseball players, you paid them. A game goes under say two hours and forty five minutes you had to their salary one one hundred and sixty two that fraction one with the dash and one sixty two you add to their salary if the game goes under two forty five if it goes over to forty five you dock them from their salary, and then we'll get to our baseball games. You're really talking to a guy that doesn't mind the length of baseball game. Not at all again. Everybody wants to speed up the game. A nobody likes my original idea. Higher faster players mad is calling from Connecticut. Matt you're on the fan in New York City. What's going on? Howdy. Steve. It's max. Oh, max sorry about that opera. Give you this one last time. But hey, you know, what the NFL writer dog and Tyler Murray where he's ever going to let the kid. You know, I was very here this morning, and they were kind of on the train, and it seems like a lot of people. They're not giving him a chance because he five ten, you know, never complained before. He's only five eight. He he. Five ten seven. It's still not enough. Amazing on the football field everybody. He's other plate with has called him. A winner. Hey, besides the cardinals and his career offer. And that's an everybody is saying that Arizona's going to draft him and then Rosen oh beyond the market. And so listen, but here's the important thing from the combine his hand size. That's it. We needed to know could he grip of football in an NFL game. He's been gripping football's regulation size footballs for Oklahoma and doing great things with it. And everyone thinks he's like a running quarterback with Haskins pocket passer. And I loved with Peter King said the other day when he did some investigating and told us here on the fan about him making eighty nine percent of all the passes thrown by Cuyler Murray in his final year at Oklahoma were from the pocket. So now, you can talk about perception and reality, but he probably is going to be a lot better quarterback than Rosen. And what did we hear a little bit? From today. Well, he may not be a leader. He may be a little bit difficult to coach come on already. And that's not gonna keep Barisan a- or a lot of other teams with a chance of drafting America's probably going to take them number one for sure. At least. That's what we hear. Joe is calling from parsipone any John you're on the fan was happening. Hey, steve. How are you? What? A pleasure. It is to talk the same here works both ways. Joe time mature go right ahead. So so are you going to give you a pass on pronouncing Johnny lasagna's name incorrectly? I was doing it. But I really think him into Mingo her mater the solution. I mean, those guys if you look at Domingo hormone swinging Mitch rate last year was up there with some of the top guys in the game. And so I really think we can lead on him. And and Johnny lasagna, really, you know, fill in for Severino while he's got. Yeah. And Cashman ability..

"This is a stretch in which you would say in his Cleveland years or no Miami years were his team was peaking at the right time. Right. Do you knew the rotations? You knew the minutes. And then all of a sudden now, we still don't know. Well, no idea in its or no idea. The Lakers Lonzo starts to come back in a couple of weeks. So you don't know what that's gonna it's still like to basically, I'm going to ask you this question to last question for you member. We're a quarter way through the season us at tell me about the Lakers. Wh what do we know about the Lakers? And it was like, oh, well, you know, LeBron is really good. They're going to be okay. We expected this record to be there. And they've already exceeded it then it was the next twenty games. Like, oh, the Lakers are on their way. And then it was that middle. We're we're in right now at twenty games where they've missed LeBron the unthinkable happened. He got injured right to a point where I ask you now in this final twenty five games this last quarter of the season. We still don't know what the Lakers. Are you get what I'm saying? Like warriors. Okay. They're going. They're going to do nothing. Okay. You'll get Denver like, okay. Dimmers won't be good. We'll look at you know, obviously, Philadelphia Philadelphia all God. They're good Toronto just got Microsoft. They're like a lot of teams have identities right now, the identity is LeBron James. And I and I'm not speaking from a from a Lakers fan. I don't wanna say I'm speaking from an analyst saying that LeBron James has put himself in a situation where he's probably going to have to work harder than he ever has in his career to get a team to the playoffs. He's never had to do this. Right. Twenty five games left. I have to win. At least what you said seventeen eighteen I'm saying they may have to win twenty games. We don't know. Yeah. It's gonna be fascinating to see how it all kind of unfolds. Speaking of unfolding Corey Bellinger has has kind of unfolded in front of our eyes here and shown us what he's kinda made of in spring training. He's talking the big game, which I like talking about how he doesn't want to not be in the lineup everyday that he can be go. They asked about what position he wants to play. And he said straight up I can play any position. You put me whatever. Bizarre. You're gonna put me at on a gold glove at every single position. Now, look he may be right about right to be honest. He's that good right defensively. Specifically now offensively if he can cut down on some of those strikeouts. Then all of a sudden, he's MVP material. I believe so I do think he's going to have to show. Dave Roberts, particularly who is going to play by the numbers, y'all can get mad about the fact that he's going to do that. But that is how Dave is going to do it. It doesn't mean occasionally that he won't do something via the gut but ninety nine percent of the damn time. He is going to go out there and tell you whatever the numbers dictate that's going to be the solution to the. Potential problem. Yeah. No, I get that. So that's on Corey, Cody. Yes, that's on Cody to disprove that that he's not the best option in the situations where he was pulled last season. Yeah. He's got a he's got to clean it up. And when I say clean it up. Meaning that in in situations where you're coaching going to have to trust you, and whatever that you do and right now that trust was not there and it most critical moments, and I like the talk now, but it's a long season. Right. And he can handle his business on his own because they're still the talks of possible. You know, where does Bryce Harper go where so they're still talks of his possible moving around if they do get a guy, you know, what I mean?.

"Mike Masino. Join sandy Colfax. Steve is calling from homedale. And Steve you're on the fan. What's happening? Hey, steve. I wanna make two points. Actually, I had one point to make. But I was really like to respond to the last caller sure about might seen. Okay. Mic PC or one hundred seventy games. I don't remember. What is exactly are is? But the guy the guy that he pitched in was mainly in the nineteen ninety spilled over into the two thousands was pitching a steroid era. You know, I know that I I know that he doesn't have many twenty game, Danny? But for what it's worth Whitey Ford had to twenty game seasons. I don't care if the guy wins fifteen seventeen games, but the guy never lost a lot of games, and he's not an immortal. The neither is Phil Niekro, Don Sutton or Burt bly, so maybe at some point in between breaks you wanna throw around the numbers of what might be. Well here to make one point. Okay. But before you do and I'll let you do. He's Ziara career ERA was three six eight and he had won twenty game season. And that was his last season as a major leaguer. So he had one buddy. But my argument also for him into the hall of fame is exactly what you're alluding to. He pitched during the steroid era and one over two hundred and fifty games and pitched in the American League with the D H as well. And in the top division as an Oriel and as a Yankee. So that is my thinking for him getting into the hall of fame. We'd have a very small thing. Basically. If you're limited to the people, you consider is immortal, but I really wanna make a point. And I told your produced. About this. I don't know if you had a chance to look at it. But it was a very good article in the New York Post on Sunday. What they did was they had six various New York sports writers. And you know, the more, you know, the more and what they did is they each picked their top ten Yankees of all. Now is the thing. I am a huge Marianne over there fan. I'm like two years younger than you. But I saw his career from top to bottom. And there are a sports writers how you do this. But to me, if I'm listening, my top, ten Yankees of all, and maybe you can make your own list. And let us know what you think. To me to me Marianna Rivera to me is no better. And I'll give you I know better than the best Yankee of all kind one, right? I had the audacity to put a one inning closer as a better Yankee Mickey Mantle. Eighteen years all the games all the World Series day in and day out is rated lower than a guy that was a one inning closer real quick. Steve. I'll just tell you real quick my opinion. Okay. The top four risk every demise showing mantle in that order. And then the next three whatever whatever you want. Why did he Ford the winningest pitcher in Yankee is three's Derek jeeter and Yogi Berra? There's no way Marianna Rivera as much as I love him cracks the top seven. All right. And and it could be that the one regret the writer that you're talking about has is that she did mention his name. Are we have to take a quick break and think about that for Justice second, but we have to take a quick break? And then immediately right back to your calls on the fan. "Basketball team since the first time Indiana played have you changed much? And what's your thoughts on your what your team is playing right now? Well, I think you're always constantly changing you go through your ups and downs especially in the conference this year. It's kind of about surviving each game and moving onto the next one. We had some hard-fought losses. Starting with the day in Bloomington. Lost by two on a one possession game simpler type deal, it's Michigan. And kinda got our hearts broken a few times. And then found a way to win a couple. So, you know, we've we've I feel we've gotten better in some areas. We we still have to continue to grow. You know, I'd like to be a little bit more efficient offensively which is easier said than done against the coaches and the defense in this league. But I think that's an area we can really grow. We want to take another jump forward. Derek pardon is just having a terrific year for you. Yeah. He's been an anchor. He's he's just such a workhorse. He brings it every night. He plays hard. You know, he's he's become a guy now offensively you can go through used to be a great defender in an energy guy in an opportunistic, opportunistic type player, but now you can play through in the post, and he commands double teams, and you know, he's been he's been someone we've really leaned on this year for leadership and toughness, and and a little bit of everything along the way. So it's been it's been great to see the way he's played. We in talk about Ryan Taylor. The first time you and I discussed back in December. But this kid from Evansville is helps you had me. Yeah. He makes shots on. It's something he so desperately need you can stretch to floor and he's got a scores mentality. Averaged over twenty game in the valley last year at Evansville. And. I can put it in the basket of puts it on me to to make sure we find the right shots form get him to open areas, and I really feel like the last couple of weeks. He's really he's really turned it on. And and found a rhythm and played some really good basketball force big laws Mongolia going through a little trouble spot. Yeah. Yeah. He's he's dealt with a little bit of knee tendinitis, which you know, can be troublesome had to miss one of our games a couple of games ago against Michigan. And hasn't been able to just a ton over the last couple of weeks. But I was really proud of him in a game. We really need it on the road or ruckers you came out. He gave the team what he needed. He's been feeling a little bit better. So we're going to need much more of that tonight against the good Indiana team talk a little bit about your impressions value since you played in the first time they've had a little problem themselves. Yeah. I think part of that is just a result of the conference. Thank you look at their team, though, they're gonna play hard. I feel like they still have two of the premier players in the conference. I mean, I've always been a huge Jon Morgan fan for for this level. I think he does a little bit of everything and perfect sense. So many problems and then with Langford he's prolific scorers. There isn't a conference, and I think a little bit like us. Trying to find game to those other guys, you know, who steps up who gives you that production. What you need in the big ten if you're gonna wanna win obviously this ball game tonight, very important for both of these teams. What do you think are the critical factors? Well, you know, I think both teams are going to play incredibly hard be very surprised if it wasn't a close game. You know, I think we're Indiana beat us in the first game was their execution late. I thought they handled the last four minutes of the game. Well, they got stops when they needed. They got the ball to Romeo he may plays late. And you know, I think it's going to be a game, you know, everybody. Both teams are going to really fight. Like, you said we're both trying to scratch and qualifying kind of find our way in this conference and stay relevant. And I think you're gonna see two desperate teams tonight playing very hard..

"Games over five hundred. Didn't win twenty games until this last season. Guy was a very good pitcher. It really was. Really was very funny. You say you hall of fame, but he was like I think of. Mike be seen. I say he's really good. I don't think he's great. And I know the hall of fame for good is is not really good. It's great. But I guess if you're really good for a long time, you get you can get into the hall of fame. Like Marianna was great. Now. I mean, he's great. The guys that you expect to go to. I mean, Geeta was great heroes. Great. Manny Ramirez was great forget the steroids were couple minutes. I mean, those guys were great. There's no question about those guys going hall of fame. I mean, they even an issue. He was really good. He wasn't great. I want to call them. Great. All right. So it looks like they're getting ready finally to do this. I mean, they they wanna turn it into gone with the wind. Idelson went up to take this job was along. Man. It's been a long time. Now probably probably fifteen years ago when he went up to take this job. Remember when he when he took it. Deal with Jeff Idelson all the time. I remember when he did when he went up to do looking for another big class today. He says, let's see how many we got. Sounds like four hundred more than four how about if we get really something wild you like get one of the steroid guys and that will make a wild. But I don't think so. As soon as I hear it. I will tell you. As time to learn of the election and see who. We'll be on the stage joining Harold Baines and Lee Smith who voted in and obviously before. Ernst and young was involved. If you care they verified the action here, we go. Four hundred and five ballots were cast three hundred nineteen votes were needed to get in. And the hall of fame bolstered its resume its roster in a big way. Getting in and Marianne was getting because he said ones defined by great hitting the other by great pitching purely by great hitting which means obviously Edgar. So let's see what we have here. "Said he thought. He cuts Allen. I knew it would find you. What does that action? Probably sitting there. This is a possibility didn't happen. So. I who is Kyrie. Do you think upset at neck? I mean, I is it Hayward has playoff experience. A lot of the young Celtic players do because they got the game seven in the Eastern Conference finals lash last year. I mean, I understand him wanting the ball in this spot at the end of these games. But it just feels to me like the Celtics are still figuring out who they're five. Best guys are and they need to realize kyri is their best player. And so they should sort of follow him. And it feels maybe like with Hayward coming back in with Tatum having this meteoric rise in the summer of all this buzzed about that. He was the next hot sexy thing in the NBA that they sort of have lost a little bit of their identity. Do you? Do you agree with that? I'm not going to be too overdramatic about this. I don't miss a Celtics game. I've watched them all season long being from New England originally, and they were fifteen and five in their last twenty games. They stopped on the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday night. The last two games have not been good. They went to Miami. They played terrible. And tonight, they just had bad stretches. This was a game of runs and I'm talking about huge runs thirty four to fourteen type runs on each side. What's going on is what you hear? From Irving there is just frustration. And it's not just about tonight. The Celtics have been uneven off the bench all year long, Terry Rozier has been very inconsistent. When he starts he looks like a different guy. Every once in a while every six games are. So we'll have a good performance. But overall he has been inconsistent and disappointing. Jalen Brown has been inconsistent. Especially on the defensive end Jason Tatum. This year has taken many more tough shots than he did a year ago. He he's fallen back in love with the mid range game that he had at Duke. So this is a build up a slow buildup that's been happening with Kyrie in the young guys for awhile. And of course on Thursday night. There was video of Marcus Morris and Jalen Brown getting into a little bit of a as judge Judy one of my favorites would say a kerfuffle in the huddle. And so now, you're dealing with that. So it's a tough mix because Aaron you have guys who are young on this team still but helped carry this team get to a game seven of the Eastern Conference finals. And you know, that they feel it inside saying, hey, we proved last year. We're good enough. We should be playing more. I want my shots. I want my action. So it's a difficult blend. They're trying to get through right now. Yeah. And Hayward obviously coming back from the injury. I wonder if there's a big trade coming for the Celtics. I I know what you said is true about their fifteen and five stretch. But again, it feels like who is their best group. You know, you brought up seventeen minutes tonight. He was a minus twenty. Played thirty minutes tonight. He was a plus twenty one. But what upside down game this was tonight in Orlando? And the Celtics still have some work to do. I think they still are a championship contender. But I really like a title contender. They have the talent for that. They're the most talented team in the east probably. But I think they've still got some figuring out about who their identity is if they're gonna make a magical run, all right? Elsewhere in Los Angeles tonight, the the pistons were playing in LA, and it was Blake Griffin returning to Los Angeles for his first game against his old team it appeared to many I guess before the game that he purposely avoided clippers owner Steve Balmer Griffin.
