I Cant Afford One Bitcoin! What Can I Do?

"Bitcoin is hot. Stop amidst this current bull market. We've seen a rush of new users who like most new users have no what's going on and one question of particular comes up a whole lot that i wanted to talk about today. What do i do if i can't afford one bitcoin. I'm adam levine and this is speaking of bit point. Today's always i'm joined by the other host of the show. Andreas 'em and operas. Hello stephanie murphy. I am jonathan mahan. Hey thanks to all the hosts into you listener for sitting on today's session. So i was talking to some people new to the cryptocurrency space last week and they were talking about what they were looking at making the first coins and they said that bitcoin just cost too much that it was too expensive that even if they agreed with all of the fundamental values the changes that will happen in the world. How bitcoin is a hedge for that and that bitcoin was going to. Let's say three x or five x in the next ten years and they saw that is real that they just didn't feel like transferring their wealth into something that they would never have one that they would never have one bitcoin that even if they spent a decade doing everything they could they would only ever have less than one bitcoin as a failure state as something that like emotionally. They couldn't get past. And i started thinking about myself when i was in college. I learning about bitcoin. And honestly i don't know if bitcoin had hit thirty or forty thousand dollars instead of dollar if i could have seen it as something that i wanted to get into just because of that mountain cliff of believing in something but then feeling like a failure. Because you don't even have quote unquote one of it. What do you guys think about that. What do you think people should be thinking about when it comes to that. I think that's an important psychological marker that people check in with when they're thinking about do i wanna buy this. How much does it cost to buy. One of this thing and i mean the real solution to that is to reframe. You're thinking there's other units to measure bitcoin in lots of wallets denominate their balances in mila. Bits now which is one thousandth of a bitcoin and you can change that in the settings and so you know if you could afford one million. Bitcoin would you by that. What about wants to toshi. The units are actually quite arbitrary. And it doesn't help that. The news and everything reports the price in terms of one bitcoin but that is also kind of helpful for a very long term perspective to see that it went from being worth nothing up to you know nearly fifty thousand dollars. There's other things that exhibit similar behavior for example. Some stocks have extremely high unit prices. And of course you can buy fractions of them berkshire. Hathaway is a famous example of that other things that have this kind of tendency. Are things like precious metals. You know you don't say well. I'm not gonna invest in gold because i can't afford a whole kilogram bar. Well yeah i mean. You can't but that doesn't mean that you can't get an airing. It's still gold is just a different value. And the unifies works both ways so for example instead of saying why can't afford a bitcoin but i can't afford a bit which is millions of a bitcoin. You can't afford a bit and that has a nice name. It's not merely bitcoin. Which kind of makes it sounds like a bitcoin with too many feet. That's a bad greek joke. It's not a unit that has no relationship you could also just measuring soto. She's because we all know of course are the standard as i keep getting reminded and you could choose any arbitrary unit but you can also go the other way right. You could redefined for example. Ten bitcoin as a chad hike. Very few people can really afford to buy a whole chad. But could i buy one tenth of a chat of bitcoin or desi chavez. I prefer to call it it. Oh all of these things are completely arbitrary and you can torment yourself on way or rejoice the out there in a completely arbitrary way and this is the key here arbitrary. It's not rational to focus. On any specific unit and we have a word for things that humans do the deviate from rationality or norm and those are called cognitive by and this particular thing is called unit bias. It's of well known cognitive bias and is studied in psychology from a number of different perspectives. It's not just the. I want to own one bitcoin. It's also the if you give me a twenty four ounce cup of soda. I'm going to drink the whole thing. Just because it comes in that size even though i may be only wanted half of it or if you create a heaping plate of french fries or if you give me a giant bag of doritos i'm gonna finish everything. Unit biases be studied a lot in terms of portions for eating. Because it actually one of the things that drives a number of eating disorders because it's a cognitive bias. It's a bug in your ability to think rationally about certain situations and that bug can lead to behavior that is against your own self interest and so this is a normal thing to have unit bias and sometimes says expresses itself in hilarious ways like for example to jonathan's example of people saying well. I can't buy a whole bitcoin. you get the opposite. Which is people who bought into dosage and are looking at it at six cents going. Yeah we can get it to a dollar dollar while allowing me to answer that watson dollar. What you don't understand dear sir is that there are one hundred twenty nine does and they are produced at a rate of what is it. One point four million a day and so to get does to a dollar. It's total market capitalization would have to reach a hundred and thirty five billion dollars or basically where a theorem walls last week. Now i don't know how you measure the utility of does and even if you think cerium is shit. Coin will not that bad

"Good. All right. Well, we wish you all the best. Thank you so much for coming on. You have quite a future. Thank you. You're welcome. Bye. Bye. Me almost that. Kidding snowball ban. Yeah. Grinning, God, we got what is it? A month. Six weeks left of the Republican House. I would like Paul Ryan to resign. And then to make that kid Republican House majority leader and get the worst funded contender. It exactly kids are so cute. Right. I mean, some kid comes to his mom and says like throws. No all never snowball fight while it's the law. Laws that the kind that needs to be changed. Will you help me? I'll help you. But you gotta do it yourself. I love that story. Not just because. It is a civics lesson. It is. But because it's the holiday time Christmas is here and kids are like the most fun part about Christmas. Right. What am I neighbours last night? I was folding some laundry and my neighbor said oh said did you do all your shopping? Are you ready for the holidays? And I said, you know, it gets harder and harder to do the shopping as the grand kids get older, and they have everything. But I always have new ones on the way. So that kind of opens new opportunities, but I said for the most part I did most of my shopping online at both of these neighbors are about my age. They really the you trust online shopping that much. And I thought to myself I have never shopped as as appropriately as I do and I'm doing it online. Because when I go into the store. I see ten thousand things that I decide would be better. It's much easier. If I go looking for something in particular. Particularly, you know, it's the twelve days of Christmas on Amazon, that's always fun. I go and I look for something spectacular. And I get I don't know about the rest of you. But shopping for little kids is so much fun shopping for adults not fun at all. Shopping for my husband. It's like he he specifies a need to me. And then I I meet that need knowing full well that we could just meet that need anyway. How is that still a gift every now, and again, I'll get it in my head that this would be a really great gift, and I'll I'll get it, and I'll put it away. And then I'll ended up giving it to him without any holiday being president just because a good mood. Right. So I'm just awful at buying gifts for adult and the worst thing they ever did was came up with gift cards because that's like such a, you know. Well, it's basically like saying I have no idea did want to any thought to the gift so here, go get your gift. Although some people tell me, it's their favorite gift of all. You know, just give me one of those visa cards with fifty bucks on it. And we'll we'll be good to go. I just think it's so impersonal, right? So we have this holiday party. That's coming up here at the radio stations. Now, these are more than one radio station, and you generally closest to the people on your station. You might know some of the others. But you're probably not as close to them as you are to the people on your own station. So. They have a what do they call it? White elephant, right. Ten bucks? Everybody has to get a ten dollar gift to come to the party. So now, I'm wandering around the store the other day, not even online, I was actually wandering around a store. And I thought let me get that white elephant thing. So it's you know done. I don't have to think about it. And then starts the issue was it for guy, or how do I know who's gonna get my white elephant gift? I don't have a clue so it has to be like a neuter gift, you know, something that either a guy or a gal would like. Was gonna wait in. They're all Hollick. So it's real easy avodados. Yup. That's how you get. Yeah. But I frowned upon that kind of behavior. So I'm not gonna do that. But I did think of something. I I actually did get a president. I don't know if I should say it on the air. I mean does anybody in this whole enclave? Listen to my show now, not really so. I got one of these everybody needs one of these. Right. I don't say it. So that nobody knows what it is. But it's something that I use every single day something that other people comment on all the time because I have two different ones. And it's a really good thing because it keeps your beverage cold. And it keeps your beverage hot. Depending on what you put in it. That's the thing that you might as well say what it is. Yeah. It's one of these continue ghosts. Double steal wall. Twenty four ounce bottles. Except I didn't get him a twenty four ounce bottle because they cost too much. We have to spend ten dollars to get in the laid out a little twelve. Smock africa. It's not coffee though. It's anything like I keep my water in it, you keep anything keep anything. And it keeps stuff cold for twenty hours and stuff one for eight hours. I don't know how it could do both right doesn't even make sense installation. But it's just double steel barrel wall like. Air or something. I don't know. What happens, but it works. Really? Well, I leave it. I go to bed. I put one on my end table. And when I wake up in the morning, whatever's left in it because I do have a tendency to, you know, take a few swigs in the night, whatever's left is still cold. It's amazing. I find little things like that are so thrilling to me at this stage of my life. Oh, the pepperidge is still cold kinda lame. Well, listen life gets less and less exciting. The older you get, you know, you're lucky to get a cheap thrill from a double steal barreled walled drink container..

"Exacto Reito's Geyer is it's called diluting, which is a scientific term that means watering something down, kind of like what you do to my orange juice. When you pour me a tiny bit and fill the rest of the glass with water. When you think looking in the eye dilute your juice with water, because there's so much sugar in a twenty four ounce glass of just orange juice. I know there is guy Roz. That's what makes it so delicious. Okay. Back to the Scooby scale, right? So the amount of dilution or the amount of sugar water. It takes to sniff out in the heat of a peppers caps as in is what gives the pepper. It's. Rating or measure on the Scoville heat scale. So for example, if a taste tester could no longer taste the heat after one Cup might be pretty mild pepper. But if it took say one hundred cups of sugar water to kill the heat, then you might be dealing with a Razi talked Hepburn. Yeah, about those professional taste testers you mentioned? Yeah. Well, it seems like what might be spicy to one person might not be so spicy to another. How do you get an accurate rating if all human tongues tastings differently? So that was actually one problem with the originals Scoville scale. So ever since the nineteen eighties, scientists have left the spice measuring to a fancy machine instead of relying on other people's talk. Okay. So just to get my deah of where a pepper would fall on the Scoville scale, let's. Sweet pepper for instance. Okay. So a sweet pepper. Hence the name contains almost no cap space in at all, which means that it rates in at a big fat zero on the Scoville scale here take a fight. See no eat at all. What about about how appeal pepper? I mean, those are pretty hot. Air is help e-e-e-e-no peppers, which I dump all over my nachos and pancakes rates in two thousand five hundred to eight thousand Scoville heat units. "Dot com. And the Instagram is body bus by Jesse. You can see all of her. Beautiful nest. Now let's talk about it. How are we doing with these jelly beans? Are you mad? Are you fended? No, I'm not offended. I mean, you gotta live it up. Are we actually well, but there's also coconut chips that I thought it'd be more healthy. I love coconut. Yeah. Okay. So basically what we did is we went to our girls and we ask them to ask us the craziest questions and we have them all for you. But I, I just want to ask you, what's your story? Why did you want to get involved in this. Yes. So my story starts from a really young age, and I always say that I feel like my whole life has kind of setting me up to do what I do, and I just didn't really even know it until the last couple years, but it really starts, you know, back in high school and I'm sure we can many of us can relate to being insecure about our bodies, and you know, beginning of high school, I was very big into swim team volleyball and was very active and never really even thought about my weight. And then after you know, quitting those sports and continuing to go to Starbucks and grab twenty four ounce Frappuccino and Chalupa in between. I realized quickly I could put on forty pounds like nothing. And so it really began there and it was like, I had no idea what to do. I didn't have the tools I was raised by as a health educator guru mother, and so I knew what to do at home. But it was like, I had this great area when I got to school was on breaks and doing the things that nobody. Was watching me, do that had become habits and you know, after swim team burning all this calories and then gorging myself at the vending machines. And so you know, I just sir doing it. Unhealthy restricting my food and I started, I took diet pills at one point and experience every single symptom on the back of the diet pill container and was thinking I was dying like having hot spots and then cold sweats and then feeling I was going to pass out and not wanting to go home and tell my parents and not knowing where to go. And so you know flash forward to college and it was like, then starts binge drinking with your friends, and you want to be part of the social life and you want to go out. And as we all know to about three after we've drank all night, all we want is fourth meal and fourth meal for the meal talked. Although. And it was usually talk about or if I was being healthy, quote, unquote, subway, and so yeah, and I don't wanna miss out. So it was like I would restrict myself throughout the week. I'd work out two hours then you had to go on the treadmill, which I can't even magic trying to do that now working out on the treadmill for an hour and then an hour of strength just so I could binge on the weekends, like living in these highs and lows. And then you know, even after college, it was like, I met my now husband and gear partying all the time and it just didn't get better. It just kept going. And so as they went through life, you know, we actually ended up going abroad and teaching English and South Korea for year together. And I had a lot more time to work on fitness and so an pretty extreme way. So it was like again, had a bunch of time before school was working out and hour and a half, two hours. Restricting my calories eating, try to eat twelve hundred dollars a day and work out an hour and a half a day, and then tracking everything in my fitness. Pal and having panic attacks. If I went over my calorie restricted restrictions for the day. And then just being so stoked, once the weekend came because we were going to Seoul and we would go out to the clubs and we drink so Jew and we'd stay out till six in the morning, and then.

"The host will forget to get ice you'll use too much someone will spill the ice is essential because you know the thing about it back isis is a buck fifty two bucks it melts an amount and you need more that's right yeah one time i threw a party at my house and i didn't have an ice maker at my house and i knew it was gonna throw this party so i had the little the little round like whiskey globe and i had like two of them and so for like two weeks straight i would just fill them up and then like i'd come home for lunch and like dump amount and film up again and it just like consumed mind higher life and nobody news it somebody brought it to dollar bag ice just use that for their cocktail good so bring ice and then the other thing is limes your boy will be heavy on the lines about a giant bag of them which i don't really do but i felt like it was the right thing to do so we will have plenty of fresh citrus just for the make it now just for everything if you're talking for your walking moulay for your cocktails for your mock till's underrated is it a fruit yes interest fruit an underrated fruit the lime because of what you sent you can you could stick one a beer squeeze won out over some tacos always tres yeah oh sure sure they're using all kinds of thing about a taco bar let's say people are coming at four let's say i cook i start cooking tacos at five we're right eat by six say somebody shows up at seven let's talk a little bit cold that meat is a little bit cold if you squeeze a lime on a cold a coal taco it makes it like ninety nine percent better it just wakes it right am i think in of its limits you squeeze on oysters yeah you could squeeze lines i guess but typically limits citrus it's important cigarette it my favorite thing about you going with the styro 's other than getting to hear you say that you just went styro this is i cannot stress enough how much how much better every beverages in a styrofoam cup when you if you have a party and you get a big ass stack styro rose and everybody just grabs a styro that's what they used to you know carry their mixed drink for the remainder of the night or whatever there's just something about that aesthetically the pleases me it metoo now i will say beer should not be drank out of not that would be the one the one thing but yeah that's glass mos if you're at a party it's gonna be hot get yourself a twenty four ounce cup full of whatever it is that you're drinking a week cocktail i'm probably going to buy some campari have we cocteau if you just want a strong vodka soda the worst is when you go to like a cocktail party at like normally like a fancy event and they all they have the little light short little wine glasses plastic yeah but they're serving all.

"A nine dollar beer you're telling me i got to spend nine bucks an worry if i've had a corpse laying on my can and that's what i'm drinking no now you're telling me if you sell that beer for four fifty well timeout you go to your corner liquors you're getting a toll boy for like two three bucks so these reeboks okay let's say three but now they're gonna lower beer price three bucks it's the three dollars beer hey just fill it you know we don't know for sure but there could have been a dead body lying on this deal water for three bucks but it's three bucks yeah i i sorry it's a dead body as a dead body i had been no wakes with family members who i loved dearly and i won't even kiss their dead body in the forehead and you want me for some strange dead body to shut down a beer because it's three bucks no thank you i'm out on the beer if you tell me hey we're we're discounted for three bucks i think i can put the imagery aside gimme a couple of tall boys let's have a good time out in the party deck i would tell you ben you have a problem you have a problem with the old bush that's if if you're willing to sell out for a couple of bucks knowing that dead body lying on beer now again if he's lying on the kegs and that's a little different if he's just like more dry ice at that point keeping things chilled out now the final point i wanna make on this and something that nobody's brought up and again it sucks to make light of a tragic homicidal death but this is what i bring to the airwaves here cbs sports radio so the guy who discovers the body right opens up the beer cooler finds the man frozen in the beer cooler but homicide death i'm not saying he's involved in any way like i mean that would be the ultimate i opened a dead body you can't be me i found it i'm not trying to say he's involved what i'm trying to say is why is this guy who apparently is also outside contractor the guy who found the body why is he opening a beer cooler i think he's looking skim a little off the top i think he's looking to take that nine dollars beer nobody's looking i'm gonna suck down my beverage he goes opens up goes nobody's going get me i'm going to have a nine dollar beard suntrust park for nothing i've had a tough day at work and then boom dead body in front of them and then those yes to report it but somehow because he's reported this that everybody focuses on the homicide which they should we forget that we might have a thief looking steal a nine dollar beer and that's the whole reason he's in the beer cooler that's an excellent point now do you think they'd already brought it up province reasons care the body more than nine but if he's the thief right and he stumbles upon this body at that point now you got a moral dilemma the report it because now you might outs yourself as at the report it or you report it but make your one last heist and shove a couple toys down your shirt and one last heist like this is the town that last seen at fenway park well you know you're out after they were opening up the beer coolers a i know where your wife and your kids are author mooney from young's tower whatever from watertown okay i know wife rachel sister barbara they will be okay if you just open this door all i'm trying to steal is ten twenty four ounce cans of beer and we're going to be on our way and changing the cop uniforms and get out before you call the cops that's basically what you're saying here is going on in atlanta basically it's a nine dollar beer you got to report a dead body he i think a heist is a little shrine her word i think the guy was just the guy said hey this is pretty cool and working in the city of an outside contractor ain't nobody looking i'm gonna have a beer here because i'm one of these construction guys that has beers i see all the time on a long railroad home when i'm working and the da show it's unbelievable gra cephas another guy gra sef awakes up pours beer and his cheerios i'm sure.

"In the eastern time zone of the central time zone congrat you made it to july and guess what that means we're about three and a half weeks from nfl training camps opening about that and we're officially two months away from september first which means we will revert he played college football and the regular season by two months from right now so we're closing in man and you don't wanna wish the summer goodbye but football is right around the corner all right i mentioned the atlanta story in case you missed it this week and we're gonna continue calls at eight five five two one two four cbs and your tweets at morass cbs in case you missed it and i want ben horowitz and james perceptive in this one i explained scenario i hope they're aware i didn't discuss them beforehand suntrust park in atlanta the braves new stadium in its second year there was a body discovered a body mind you in a beer cooler in the stadium dead body they have i believe investigated this and declared it a homicide which means foul play because there was some speculation before the homicide was declared guy did a guy just get locked in a beer cooler freeze to death no no no no we got foul play here so the man did not work for suntrust park or the braves who was found dead and by the way all kidding aside thoughts and prayers as always with the guy's family i don't want to make light of a death by any means but he gets founds outside contractor working in the stadium so he's within the stadium so that means some kind of homicide went down in this braves ballpark so leads you to ask who the heck is killing people throwing them a beer coolers at a braves game now there are two problems i have with this which is i wanted to bring up that i don't think was discussed enough because people jumped to wow this is a sad story what could have happened bubba bubbubba and i get that i want to papu but again we gotta go alternate direction year 'cause that's what i like to do number one how how did the braves play the game that night when the bodies discovered we've got a dead body discovered the morning off in that stadium and we go twelve hours later on sell the cotton candy let's get out there i mean we've had rain outs and miss postponed games for way worse there was a body found dead in your stadium do we need to play that night fair point just put put the crime scene tape around the cooler and let let's play ball let's all right situation number two the story comes out that he's found in a beer cooler what does it come out is a is it a beer cooler with like your tallboy your cans is it in a cooler that keeping like kegs cool point being body in their dead on top of beer i don't know if this is in the mezzanine i don't know if this is upstairs i don't know if this isn't the loesch i don't know if it's underneath the stadium i don't know if it's in the food court i don't know if it's in the outfield i don't know where what beer cooler this body was in i am not drinking a beer the rest of the year from in some trust park because i don't know if i've had a dead corpse language czar pit over a twenty four out sir i can't do it i can't drink a beer if i'm at a braves game the rest of the year would you what if they said to you we know the situation we're going to correct it by selling for the rest of the year beer at regular retail value saw you get your tallboy twenty four this like you know at at joe's corner liquors down the street dollars are you sucking it up at that point so basically you're premises beers are and i don't know how much they are central ironic part is the falcons stadium sells beers for like five bucks like what you buy two regular bar because that's what arthur blank did but at the braves stadium i resume your average twenty four ounce can of insert beer here i'm not going give any brand names you know the you know the.
