Designing a Tilt Out Onion, Potato and Bread Box Pantry
"My mom wants a weird potato onion. Breadbox pantry thing. i'll idea. yeah yeah well the thing is. She's got a small condo not a lot of storage space and there's a couple of feet between a very skinny little pantry door and the garage door and there's like literally about twenty four inches of space so go over there and she's like i have an idea for this pantry thing that i want said. Show me where it goes. I take a look and she literally wants to take up the space between these two doors so that when they're both open there's almost hit this pantry thing And it's such a small kitchen. I'm like mom. You really think you really want this big thing show. Yeah this is a very popular thing. People have this so now. I'm designing a weird potato onion breadbox pantry thing and one of the things she wants on the bottom. I guess is like for the potatoes and onions to have those kind of tilt out containers it just trying to figure out how to do this. Of course first thing. I do i go to rock ler and see if they have any Hardware so they do have some of the reva shelf brand tilt mechanisms but a lot of times those are used for that little space In front of your sync which is typically wasted space. But you could put a little tray there for. I don't know brushes or you know washy things so i'm not sure that that's going to work. I guess i could also just kind of go with like regular hinges and come up with some kind of a stop system which might be the like probably the the no frills smart way to do it but anyway. I don't know so rock where does have some good hardware there for something like that and i might have to do that. But if anybody has feedback on this if you've done Not going to be too big. You know because a camping. There's no room for this thing in the first place but if you've done a till doubt system like that let me know what hardware us what works for you because i'm going to have to do something like that pretty soon.
Can I Grow Roses on the East Side of the House?
"Can you grow roses on the east side of the house and most definitely yes and explaining that by the same six. Our business I'm going to go to some old well. I may be told before some junk roses. The pots were broken. The plants were at best gimpy I bought him. This is a while back. I bought them for fifty cents. A piece. I worked up the soil in the apartment. We were living in On the east side of a one story with an overhang. I stayed out eight. I would maybe twenty four inches from the. The area really really amended the soil gutted in excellent shape planet six roses. Those scraggly half live plants ended up my shoulder to head height by fall absolutely magnificent because i well first of all i got him into good rooting situation then from there. They were getting full. Six hours of sun in the morning dawn until noon or so And and just flourished because they could make the food in the morning then. They were in a cooler less lighted area. So they could actually. Let's just say reserve some of the food they made and it made a better better better to the point. I was cutting not big bouquets and believe me were better but for for the start they had. They were beautiful in the fall.

Can I take cuttings from my Christmas cactus?
"Always get compliments from my family on my christmas. Cactus can i take cuttings from it and route them as gifts. And how do i go about doing that without hurting my plant. Hey let me start. With the fact that when she says she has been complicated complimented that means she's had the planet that's means it's a fairly mature plant And that can be. I don't know a foot wide. It could be even two feet wide at this point now. i'm glad she's been complimented and that means that she's doing things right as to the growing plant now Let's if you can go with my image or hopefully being created with trimming the taxes in front of my house. there are some brands. That are quite long. That i do need to cut back. I'm going to reach into those by eighteen. Twenty four inches and gonna cut right in front of a pair or so of smaller. Buds or smaller. Little bitty stems than i know are still alive and ready to roar for next year. And i'll take out that whole branch back to their now with that having been said it's about the same thing on christmas cactus. Because this is however you won't be cutting back to a pair per se. You just kinda going to snap it off at the intersections from one little Stem section to the next Now anything she does is going to be injurious to a very small extent. Very small With the plant. Growing as i suspect that one is I would wait until it has done flowering just because flowering in itself is a pretty heavy load on a plant so that she doesn't take any more chance than necessary to Cut its production possibilities for itself. I would wait until his finished flowering which might be january february At that point in time. It's a matter i would use a razor blade or or sharp sharp knives and just simply cut from the tip back in toward the center at intersections. Now there will be some where you can actually cut back to side buds or side. Little stems and some. That won't be the case again as we spoke to not trimming take all the trimmings for evergreen boughs out of one part of the plant. I would indeed follow that same rule. Now i don't know how big the plant is. Let's just say that it's it's big enough that you could take twelve stem tips two or three sections long and not hurt the plant in appearance. Now you it cuts off a little bit of the food manufacturing but darn little so that you keep the plant healthy you have the cuttings. Then it comes a question of how to do it. I have done a few. So what hap hazardously simply in water. taller glass. That will hold the things up right. I put an inch of water in the bottom last and stick several men there until they root It it's not very efficient way. A producer would shutter to hear me. Say it but at the same time for home that's fine.

Going All In on Sleep Hygiene
"I love what you wrote here you do in our in our little prep document. He said okay. Gone all in on my sleep hygiene. Those words are music to my ears. Well you know I wrote this document before I went to bed last night and then last night was just in party with Mehan insomnia just a sexy dance between the two of us but it was okay. I figured it out I worked through it. I would say insomnia is probably not the maybe it is the right term but just I had a really hard time falling asleep. I could not do it last night. I did all my little things that I try but then finally I've mentioned this on a recent episode of here for you but I got mentioned again. A listener recommended something called good day. Chocolate sleep supplement candy coated pieces with one milligram of Melatonin per piece. Now got some in a grocery order. I should tell you Dorie yes I ordered it. I had done like a whole foods pickup order. Okay and I put this on my list thinking it'd be like a big bottle of vitamins. It is eight pieces of. Oh my gosh. It's so tiny. It's literally like the size of an a little cardboard box the size of an eraser that you get an elementary school. It's a very small. Wow or eight pieces of chocolate and I've already had two of them last night. So like you now loops and I just dropped. What on my desk so just FYI. I I don't know I need to do a little more research on if I can acquire more but they are basically giant chocolate eminem like candies that have Melatonin in them and at one thirty last night I took to them and that did help me transition into sleeping. Okay do you know. Do you know why you weren't able to fall asleep last night. Okay as I confessed to. You already pre recording. I was doing the thing where a looked at my phone late. Yeah and I regret it. I deeply regret it. So let me let me. May I fill listeners? In on kind of just what? I'm Lee the steps. I am taking s please. I would like nothing. So our we've talked about sleep hygiene a lot on forever thirty five and I have always found it to be a struggle and I've had sleep issues in the past and they go hand in hand with my anxiety so i. It's pretty clear to me that this is pandemic related. Yes omnia and stress like I know what it is and I do feel very fortunate that like while I do have to wake up and work and take care of my family. It's not like I have to wake up and be at an office eight o'clock so because when I used to get this kind of sleep. Insomniac used to be at work at eight and it would be this kind of like all night panic about it So so that is. That is very lucky for me. I feel like right now. That is that does help. But I'm trying to figure out ways in which to not Trigger this kind of bedtime sleeping Zayed's so the one thing I need to do that I think really helps get off my phone about an hour before I plan on falling asleep. Okay and that is hard for me because like when I go to wash my face a bring my phone okay. Do you do this studio the no? I put my phone away before I start my whole bedtime routine brain. It's like I want be looking at facebook while I'm washing my face. That's what I do. Here's what I do and like you. Can you're welcome to do or not do this? I don't care if I'm if I'm doing something in the living room like say watching TV. I will finish watching TV. I'll take one last look at my phone. And then I'll plug my phone in the kitchen and then like I'm done with the phone for the night. Ooh And I go into my bedroom. I change into my pajamas or maybe. I'm already in my pajamas. I do my whole you know. Wash my face put on my serums my lotions. I brush my teeth floss etc. Do Yoga Toes. I write in my journal I'll usually read kindle for a little bit Last night I was on my ipad looking for something but I will talk about in a little bit but I try and I try to stay off my ipad because then I get then. It's tempting to look at news websites and I don't want to be doing that and then I usually get so tired. I often fall asleep while reading. Yeah that's amazing like lights on kindle in hand and then I like jerk. Oh Okay and then. I'll put the kindle away turn up late and like really go to sleep. I feel like that's how you know that you hit Middle Age because I do that too and I feel like I would watch my parents do that and be like they are so weird though kick in their bedroom and they both leap with the lights on with books on their totally but like now we're there and it feels good and like you get why you just Kinda like close your eyes mid book. Yes I I've had that experience in my better sleep days and I and I I really admire that. You are so consistent with that that and not the just that it works but that like you. So much of it is forming the habit. And you've done that and you've done that as long as this podcast has been in existence even before you know well. Yeah I mean as discussed on this podcast. I have had to be consistent because of my sleep disorder and even though I still get night terrors. Having a consistent sleep routine does help. So did you talk to anyone. Like did someone guide you through figuring out asleep routine in terms of dealing with your sleep disorder or is this something. There's a lot of articles about it that I consulted. It's also partly why and Matt Matt and I are at odds about this. I like to have my bedroom be cave like I like it pitch dark preferably like blackout curtains. No late getting in quiet as to WHO and he likes to like. He likes to wake up with Natural Light. Which means that there's late seepage. All the time and I so yeah so so that's been that's often been a source of conflict but lake ultimately. I think the person with a sleep disorder wins out a man But yeah like some of the like I've talked about this before but like going to sleep at a consistent time every night is also very important. Yeah Yeah having that wind down period is important earplugs. I mask like do earplugs at night. I do okay okay. Do you have a certain brand of that? You like or is it just kind of like a generic drug store earplug. It's a generic drugstore earplug. I believe the one I have right now are from walgreens great shoutout to Walgreens shout to Walgreens I so I don't know I like a very loud white noise eight. Yes yes and I love the variety of white noise. Machines have cranking up all over my house. I have been finding Melatonin to be very useful and as well as reading and journaling at night. That does really kind of helped me wind down. It's the transition from phone to non phone that has been really hard and maybe I need to move my phone out of the bedroom completely. I've been leaving it on my desk. Which is in my bedroom and as you mentioned you like when we were talking about this previously I think work needs to be kept out of the bedroom but right now. My workspace is literally twenty four inches from my bed. That's very hard right now. I'm sitting at my desk and I can reach behind me and touch my bed. So that is. That is a little tricky. Like I will look at my computer and I'll think of something I haven't done for the podcast and I'll be like oh just do this one flip it. Oh men and do it. So so. That's that's hard for me to. I need to kind of start figuring that out but I will say I have been wearing an eye mask a lot more in not only is it helpful and filtering the light. There's something about the pressure of it. That is comforting. You do you experience that like the jazz header. Caress of an eye pillow against my face. I'm finding very soothing. That's very
20 Minutes With Aly Orady The Founder Of Tonal
"Everyone it's Martin from twenty minutes fitness. Today we're having actually a remote interview with Adia. Righty from TONAL AT A. We have been talking before last year in May but for the listeners have not had the chance. Listened to that podcast. We're GONNA make sure that episode awesome to our show notes. Why don't you just say a few words about who you are? And what total is Yeah Martin. Thanks for having me back on the show. I'm the founder and CEO of Ohio and tunnel is a connected streaming system for the home so it's a digital strength training machine that's versatile enough to support Every single movement that you would do on any machine and our weight room and comes with Multi Week Programming and Onscreen coaching guides. Our guys are members through their workouts. Every every step of the way it's Super Compact. It's compact enough to monster walls. It's compact enough to sit in a one bedroom apartment or or a home and And it super smart and intelligent. Ai In it that personalizes the workouts to user and and guides people through the work that so what would like typically experienced. Like if. I'm a user an ice pack. You know may gun through on morning and do my I work out. How would that apply so So the first thing is when you walk up to a tunnel you actually just looks like a TV mounted on wall but but vertically I end the arms tucked away so when you're not using it it's it's stowed looks really clean and sleek is when you walk up to it the first thing you do on still the arm so these arms often and they become adjustable seen all sorts of different exercises. I know there's a twenty four inch screen When you first create your account you know you do everything you do with a personal trainer. You'd Salsa Basic Steiger Age or your goals and then we take you through a quick strength test ought to find out how strong you are And that becomes the baseline that we use from that point that point forward and then you know what you'll do is you'll you'll select the program that you want to do and you know you have the option of doing a single day workout With one of our coaches so you you might take a coach and pick a twenty minute workout or for workout. Or you'll enroll in a multi week program. This is what most people actually do we were. We were grams oriented around specific goal. So we have programs for people who want to lose weight people who want to build muscle people who want to get better at specific sport. Like an example. We will retraining program for somebody's training for a five K. Five Ron. You don't actually become a better runner by running more you do it. You can read strength training and then once you step into the workout. We'll take you for warmup routine and then as we take you for every single strength. Training exercise tonal will automatically choose. How Much Weight? You should lift scored exercise. Assess how you're doing and then Decide whether it's time for you to lift more weight or less weight so so in essence. The is adopting every workout to you. In terms of the way the pacing to work. That's actually will speed up and slow down depending on on how you're doing. I even give you real time feedback right emotion elements of your arm. So it's it's pretty cool and Since we last talked. And that's I'm tonal had just launched a few months before that and what has happened since then what has changed. I think a lot of a lot of things have changed. I think when when we first started a lot of people would look at this thing and not sure what it was and now now we're in a position where where people look at this and they will have a tonal. Just tell us that. It's the most incredible piece of equipment if they've ever used and I think the the analogy I can use. It's like it's like one test Reduction of electric cars. I think when I was a kid when you looked electric cars they were always. They're always like the all environmentally friendly alternative to gasoline cars. But you're serious about cars. You had to go gasoline. And now Tesla has proven that an electric car cannot perform a gasoline card every single dimension. And that's exactly. What tonal is tonal? Doesn't rely on big metal place in gravity. We actually generate or she using electricity And electromagnetics and just repel cars or trains or in Donald Generate enough force. The pick you up off the ground or give you a really really serious workout and I think before we. We launched people who would see. The product would be impressed by now that it's people's homes and more and more people hearing. We're starting to get this this reputation of being a superior way to strength train. The resistance is more pure the spotter which automatically adjusts the way. If you're struggling you push yourself harder. Va I which selects the wage for you. Opt To push yourself harder. The guidance is is really is really great. Because you're getting a crush routine every day And so I think that that reputation is starting to to proceed us community has really grown become very vibrant. And I think that's all great very exciting. And you mentioned that initially customers didn't quite know what to make for Assad and do you think that was more phone Education thing that you had to explain the product more and you had to put up that reputation like you mentioned like something that you had to change around the product experience fall for your users. It was all about. It was all about education and about letting people experienced thing that was new and different than what they'd seen before you know when you walk into a gym and you look at our traditional cable crossover weight machine or you look at Iraq dumbbells. I think we all know what those things do. I think with tonal people. Look at it and you know it's really small. It's leak and and it's easy to underestimate because pretty until that same person. Twenty minutes later is sitting on a puddle on the ground puddle of sweat on the ground you know out of breath the thing we hear most often from people as it exceeded my expectations. This is way harder than I ever expected him. The resistance is more pure. It's smooth and in in the beginning. You know it it. You know people look at this thing. They don't is under skeptical? And then after you know after. The community began digging gave momentum. I think we started to see See The tide turn.
FOMO and Managing the Exceptions
"Here's the editor of Lens. Work Publishing Brooks Jensen. I WanNa talk today. A little bit about the pragmatics of equipment and equipment selection relative to what it is that we want to produce. It's a topic that we've discussed before but there's a new take on it that I want to share about the nature of compromise to begin with there appears to be one prevalent strategy for choosing a camera and lens system and that strategy seems to be driven by the recently coined acronym. That's made its way into the photographic lexicon Thommo the fear of missing out and all you have to do is go look at camera reviews on Youtube or in the current crop of magazines. And you'll see that this is a big one. It's the primary marketing tool that camera. Manufacturers are using the implication being that you might miss a shot if you don't have the latest greatest camera but the premise of this idea. Is that the cameras should be capable of not only the photographs we routinely WANNA make but the ones that we might possibly WanNa make no matter. How unusual the circumstances and if we don't buy the right camera that is the one with maximum capabilities. We might find ourselves frustrated when that rare opportunity presents itself because of the limitations of our equipment and so they tell us we need to buy a piece of equipment that will handle every possible situation. I'm not sure that's the best strategy. For the simple reason that it unquestionably over engineers. Most of what we do. It also fails to include an important part of the decision making process known as the opportunity cost. Now for those of you who are not familiar with the term opportunity cost. The opportunity cost is what you have to pay as a result of the decision that you made to buy something else so for example if you buy a very high megapixel camera that's GonNa cost you a bunch of time Time to copy the files over to your computer and hard drive space and etc. Those are all things that you're going to have to give up efficiency of time efficiency of storage. You'RE GONNA have to give up all of that in order to pay for the advantage of having a high megapixel camera and speaking of that crazy megapixel rat race. We seem to be involved in. This whole idea seems to me to be wholly based on the idea that we might. I repeat might want to make a large print. Well let's look at that for just a minute. As an example of compromise and how we might alternatively managed the exceptions if we don't have a high megapixel camera for example so the theory of having a high megapixel camera is that we wanna make really big prints but of course if you WanNa make really big prints you need a really big printer and so there's costs involved. They're not just for the high megapixel camera but for the printer and the paper and ink in its CETERA. Now maybe you you'll use a service so you don't have to own the printer but let's set that aside for now because it has its own sort of mathematics involved in it. Let's just assume that you WANNA make your own prince so you need a big printer so the opportunity cost of having the need to make really big prince. Is You have to spend money on a big printer which means you don't have that money available for travel for lenses for paying for models or whatever else you have to sacrifice in order to buy the printer so let. Let's look at a few of these numbers just for grins. And by the way I know numbers are hard to follow in an audio podcast. But I'll try to do my best to make it simple. Let's look at for example. Epson printers in their list price so seventeen inch printers run between twelve hundred and two thousand dollars. How many mega pixels do you have to have to use these seventeen inch printers to make say a Standard Sixteen by twenty print at two hundred and forty? Ppi well you need a whopping eighteen mega pixels? That's it anything over eighteen mega pixels. If all you'RE GONNA make is sixteen by twenty prints is really not necessary unless you do a lot of cropping and things like that and obviously if you buy a seventeen inch printer you don't intend on making any images bigger than sixteen by twenty so you really don't need anything bigger than eighteen megapixel unless you wanNA printed a little higher resolution like three hundred or three sixty or something like that which I'll get to a just a minute. Let's say you WANNA make even bigger prince so you invest somewhere between twenty three hundred and forty seven hundred dollars which probably more than you paid for your camera on a twenty four inch printer. Now you can make twenty by twenty four inch standard size photographic prints at two hundred forty P P I. How many mega pixels will you'll need? Well you'll need twenty eight Megapixel for twenty by twenty four inch print. That's it so why spend the money for the sixty year one hundred megapixel high resolution camera unless there's some other reason than a large print but let's say you're interested in really pushing the envelope so you step up to a forty four inch printer and all? That's involved with that in terms of paper sizes and Matt Sizes and frames and Cetera. So you have a forty four inch printer and you paid somewhere between five thousand and thirteen thousand dollars for it. You are serious about this right so now you can make a thirty by forty inch print at two hundred and forty. Ppi You will need a sixty nine megapixel image for thirty by forty inch print. Okay so now you can sort of justify those high megapixel cameras because you need sixty nine megapixel but wait a minute. The reason you buy a forty four inch printer and all that's required to make it successful including the camera is because you are in pursuit of excellence. You're really pushing the envelope. You WanNa make print that is so outstanding that it's beyond technical question whatsoever which means you probably won't want to print a two hundred and forty. Ppi because a print it three hundred PPI or maybe even some people say three hundred and sixty PPI is microscopically better. And that's what you're interested in pursuing is the microscopically better. Well what do you need in order to make a thirty by forty inch print at say three hundred sixty PPI? Well if you work out the math you need a three hundred eleven megapixel camera which doesn't exist. And as a matter of fact your sixty or seventy megapixel high resolution full frame camera isn't even close to providing that kind of resolution which means that it will require some sort of compromise and the compromise might be that you have to do some stitching multiple exposures piece them all together to make the three hundred eleven megapixel file or you have to print at a lower. Ppi on your forty four inch printer to get your thirty by forty inch. Print and this is the nugget of the issue the requirement for some sort of compromise. I would propose to you that. All of photography is some sort of compromise and with that in mind than the fear of missing out takes on a different kind of reality. It's it's not really sane to be worried about the fear of missing out. It seems to me the more reasonable policy. The more reasonable strategy is to figure out what the exceptions are and try to manage those so if we thought through our choice of equipment sufficiently. I think it's fair to say that our choice will be made based on the fact that it serves us well for what ninety or ninety five percent of the pictures we WANNA make in my case. That's micro four thirds and it's perfect for my needs. That is to say probably covers ninety percent of the photographs that I wanna make in the size that I wanna make it okay. Fine but what about the exceptions? I'm obviously compromised with that camera. And it sensor size in its resolution in etc and there are some exceptions that are going to crop up that that Kamara's gonna be a problem for me. So what about that five or ten percent of the time when? That camera is not sufficient. What do I do then? Well seems like two choices. I can either forget about those images and just don't make them and concentrate on the ninety or ninety five percent of the images. I can make with my camera and be perfectly happy with it or I can figure out ways to manage the exceptions and develop reasonable work arounds.
The 123s of Window Boxes
"Going to start out with a plant Rama. One two three the first the second and third things that you should know or do if you want to start a new garden project or a practice and today. That project is window boxes. I want to put window boxes on the front of my house. Ellen what is your number one thing I need to know. The first thing you need to think about is what floor. Are you going to put them on and that relates directly to how those window boxes are going to be attached because if you are hanging them from her second or third floor window boy do you need to be sure those are solidly fixed in place? You do not WanNa conch somebody on the head with a window box that is poorly attached. And since my background is is from. New York City. Where oftentimes these window boxes and containers were many floors above the sidewalk? This is something you really need to think about. If you're if you're on a first floor window probably going to be walking underneath those window boxes and you can use a more casual hanger that may fit over the sill but if you are planting your window boxes on a higher floor you need to wire those in place. So that even the strongest wind or scampering squirrel is not going to knock it loose so I say I know that's not fun. It's not fun like choosing great plants but it's essential. You got to do that. I my number one was noticing what direction the front of your house face. That's a great one. I didn't even think of that. Because if it's facing north you're going to need to use shade loving plants now. Nothing wrong with that. Of course there's some great Begonias ferns and everything. But if your expectation is you are going to have window boxes with cascading geraniums like you see all over Europe and the friend of your house in deep shade. You might need to either rethink the plan for window boxes in the front of your house or changed the expectations that you have and Ellen your point about the securely fastening them made me also think about an alternate number one which is how am I gonNA water these boxes yes now. That was my number three. Oh well then we'll get to that. So what's your number two? My number two was about soil and drainage because lots of times you by the window boxes and they may not have drainage holes in the bottom and if they don't you need to get out your handy dandy electric drill and I would put one inch hole six inches on center for the length of your window box. So that you get good drainage in there and then I would put a lightweight. Potting mix do not fill those window boxes with soil from your garden. You want them to be lighter weight and you want them to drain quickly. So I say get those drainage do like how. I'm like putting two into one because I'm cheating so my number two is making sure you have adequate drainage and a good lightweight soil that is also going to drink quickly. That was my number three that same wavelength. What was your number? Two pretty amazing number two is to measure where you want them and decide what size and types of boxes you're going to install. Are you going to have wooden boxes? That have plastic inserts. Or are you going to? Ha- want them removable. Or are you going to just have the plastic boxes that you buy at the store and you're going to put them on brackets of some sort So that was I was going for style of boxes in number two and then I was going to go back to function in number three which was the drain the tools and the soil which I was also sneaking to well. You know it's interesting. You mentioned style because what the front of Your House looks like is probably going to influence the style of window box that you choose and where you live is also going to determine the style of window box because if you live someplace where you can have. That Window. Box planted year round. You might go for something more substantial. That's going to be longer lived like would because you could have. You have a rotating display you know you could have ornamental cabbages and cycling's in Viola in the wintertime depending on where you live or you might if you live someplace really really cold. Just fill those window boxes with an interesting arrangement of of bows and berries in the winter. So I didn't even think about that but that's a really good thing to consider the color the style the material that the box is made out of in number three ellen which was the holes and the fresh potting soil. And I I I also snuck. I really cheated. I stuck a third thing and that was to always. Every year mix a tablespoon of inorganic granular fertilizer. Such as plant tone With a tablespoon of a time release synthetic fertilizer. Azmacort is probably the most common one available if you do that every year with fresh potting soil. Your plants are going to grow gangbusters all summer long without any additional fertilization need it. Now I have to ask a tablespoon. That's for a window box. That's how big twenty four inches. Maybe thirty anywhere from twenty four to thirty inches cat would be good. If you have a really huge long window box underneath a picture window you probably want to do two three times that amount. Okay all right. Well my number three again. I'm cheating was to plant and water now. The planting is the fun part right. That's the best part and don't be afraid to really fill those window boxes up and make them look gorgeous. They're there to give you pleasure and you also want to make sure that you choose plants that live well together you're not gonNA put a succulent next to affirm that needs constant soil moisture so choose your plants wisely and think about how you're going to water them if they're on the ground floor you go round with your host of your watering can. But if they're on the second or the third floor you might want to consider drip irrigation and I. I know that I'm a big fan of drip irrigation. And it's not something that likes quite as much but for me doing it for clients it was really essential because I couldn't I couldn't trust them to water when things needed to be water. That's why they had me there. But a simple simple drip set up on your window boxes really takes away that responsibility and makes it much easier for you to do the other things for you to dead head for you to fertilize for you to groom your plant. It just takes that chore. Off of the schedule Ellen. I'm all for drip irrigation. I just don't if I had a magic wand and have it instantly installed yeah containers. I'd do it in a second. It's just a little bit too lazy to research and make the opposite of lazy seal. I'm just going to say that right now but we all have our priorities. Yeah so one. Two three window boxes a lot of fun a few simple decisions to make but as Ellen said it's all about your own pleasure

You started in fashion before fitness. Can you tell us about that Yeah I went to a fashion design high school and then the natural progression was just to go to fit And then I did a bachelor's. It didn't love working in fashion I think it's when you're younger and you start doing fashion. You have this idealized version of what you think. The fashion industry is and then you get there and you're like yeah that's not it at all. I got into interior design And I loved it but like I can't handle sitting at a desk all day And I just knew that wasn't for my personality And then so I was like all I will try real estate because it's not like a hip hop skip and a jump from interior design. China you can feed your own apartments while that But you know it's just like some people can do that some people can't and it's like I didn't love it either and eh time. I started really weightlifting And then that became the highlight of my day and I kind of accidentally fell into it. I just if if you don't mind I wanNA share some of these instagram. And if you're listening to US right now it's worth it to go over and check this out. I'm first of all. This is lift tonic. This is where I met. Were you are one of the instructors. Your ass is incredible and it looks one hundred percents real and it is you look strong and I love this representation of beauty because unsexy. This is my favorite. Because you look so healthy and you look I i. I'm sure you do to maintain to maintain that You have to. Yeah but I mean can I not to sound cheesy but you're wasting snatched the tiniest little waste of I. I think people would be very surprised at how much smaller their waste can get If they just eat differently Yeah Yeah I mean yeah. I stayed in entirely huge role in. How big your weight like most of the time? If you feel like it's your waistline that is the issue but that is where most tissue live that is all diet like lately ruin through Diet and now I do remember there was a post and I am not gonNa dig through them. We'll leave this one up here. We're you mentioned that. And this is what I love about your body positively. You mentioned that you were weightwise some of the heaviest that you'd been win but yet twenty four inch waist. And that's what I want to really focus on today. You know you you you really spread this message of like you eat you out. Well you know tell us what. What is your philosophy on on lifting weights Okay so let's a little preface so when I ms in fashion design I started going to college I was like about a hundred pounds right And I'm five five So when I was the heaviest I was as you know and I had a tiny ways and I would think that pretty much across the board like I feel like most people would say that I looked healthier and happier on heavier weight. Had different dimensions. Completely I was a hundred and thirty eight hundred dollars. One hundred and forty pounds. That's kind of a big like thirty eight pounds of muscle and fat. I mean you have to have both But I theory behind weightlifting. Is You gotta be consistent about and that is with anything with Diet and with your working out. 'cause I mean I'm sure if you're watching probably read that somewhere But it really in fact like if you are consistent about something show up for yourself make time And it's not just about thinking that one class it's nice like give you that that body Like if you look at me and you're like wow. Her body is great. You know it's not just coming to class twice a week and thinking that that's going to do the job because you know you really have to spend that time focusing on your food as well you know and that takes time and like planning on us. They've got the hardest part. So how many days a week are you in the gym. While I I work at one almost every day but I would say I way chain five days a week. Yeah how an a percentage ratio right. So if you were to say would you say it's seventy percent diet thirty thirty percent exercise or would you say it's twenty percent exercise eighty percent diet. Yeah totally I think that Diet. Save an disgusting disgusting roll like no one wants to hear it. It's like people work out so that they can eat more. I do eat more but you have to kind of like hit strict about how much more food you're eating like I can. I can eat a lot of Sushi. Cheap meals are insane So Caen most grown men under the table but you're also working out incredibly in your lifting really heavy and I on personal trainer her. I'm standing on my feet all day. I'm running back and forth from classes and studio I train at So it's just I'm I'm very active like all day
My Love/Hate Relationship with Costco
"Story. This week is from Linda. Horton who you'll defined on medium DOT COM and here is my love hate relationship with Costco. It's more love though. Oh my gosh I can avoid it no longer. I must go to Costco. And it's the absolute worst day to go Sunday Sunday. Saturday is bad to actually. It's always freaking packed. I realize we're all busy people and everyone here is as has stressed out as I am what they really need here is a bar when you walk in the door you get a drink a really. Cheap drink Kirkland brand beer. You're a wine. Only that'll hit the spot before embarking on the craziness that is Costco. But they don't have a bar and I'll just have to tough it out completely substance free. I mean there are people here with kids. How do they do it? It's strange but people seem seem to be inordinately polite and cheerful while shopping here hellish as the experience can be maybe they pumped something out through the Vance dance or there's some other subliminal trickery going on like how they do at Disneyland or maybe people just love this damn store. It's not just shopping for the essentials. Here it's so so much more you have to take advantage of the cheap gas along with everyone else in the free world waiting for a pump. The lines are long but we tough it out. It's totally worth it. I'll get that over with first since it's pretty painful then you drive around looking for parking spot and hope. It doesn't start raining on the long trek to the entrance. You have to grab a giant cart even if you only need a couple things as if you could ever emerge costco with only a couple of things. I mean there's stuff you have to get every time like paper towels and toilet paper. Oh the joy of having several months worth of paper goods there's protein bars. Kirkland brand is amazingly good and protein drinks. There's big bags of almonds and giant jars of peanut butter. Depending on how hungry I am. I'll grab a huge bag of kettle cooked potato chips. OMG I'm going to regret that it. There's yogurt and cottage cheese and coffee. I commit to eating clam. Shell package of fifteen large apples and a ten the pound bag of carrots. I have enough lacroix to last a few days. Yeah I drink a lot of that stuff. The baked goods are are insanely good but buying Cherry Pie. That is twenty. Four inches in diameter. Wouldn't be prudent and I already have the chips for my one bad thing but damn that pilots good. I contemplate patio furniture. Even though I live in a small condo on the second floor Cosco Frenzy is upon me. My car is loaded up with way more than a couple of things as I amber my way toward the checkout line wow the lines are long but these workers are efficient and always friendly strangely enough the line line moves briskly and as each item is scanned. I think about what a total pain in the ASS is going to be to lug all this stuff up to my place. It will take many trips and I'll always gas a little bit when the Grand Total is announced. Ouch but hey hey I could survive a natural or unnatural disaster for several months. Hold up with all this stuff. So there's that but wait eight. I haven't even gotten to the best part it's always a quandary wanted to get it. I mean at what point in the Costco Journey to get hit a piece of pizza hot cheesy Pepperoni deliciousness. Today I will pack up. My car returned to the store and get my I slice. This is not the typical order of events. It's typically slice then shop. I buy less stuff that way. Innate Lewis to say hungry shopping at Costco is dangerous. Oh and sometimes I get a strawberry Sunday to I wait to see how full royal after the pizza. Oh who am I fooling. I always get the damn Sunday. I could save a lot of time by just ordering both things at at once but no so I eat my pizza and ice cream elbow to elbow with the other Hungary and happy shopper seated at the plastic picnic tables with a full belly and car packed with stuff. Mike Costco experiences complete. Oh Oh how I love this place and how I absolutely dread my next trip back.

But whereas their aesthetic soul the feeling that they can accomplish high things Oliver criticized his raiders teammates for eating too much meat. Oliver left the commune after about a year and with sports writer Ron Rapoport wrote a football tell-all called high for the game. He appeared in a documentary about disenchanted athletes he was busted for marijuana possession. And then after consulting with Jack Scott who had founded the anti-establishment institute for the study of sport and society Oliver in nineteen seventy-one decided to make a comeback. It didn't go. Well, just a few days into training camp. Oliver left a note for Madden and split on his motorcycle a week later. He wrote a four part series for the San Francisco Examiner. He had returned to be quote, an instrument through which my football playing brothers could be enlightened and be free of the terminal masculine courage, peer group approval syndrome, but the truly creative or frustrated in football. "Ladies and gentlemen, so Tom's house has this little oscillating sound and ask your neighbor lives on WTMJ. So people have been texting in and cheering I eight to two story house in that corners, and it's those rants in Mr. Levin. Ninety-five who texted in who? Again, you owe some money to says my house is two story as well and the down spout is on the northeast corner. So if it gets windy that might be what it is. So what it means is I have to go win. It's curry. To go out there with and grab it. Right. The stock stop dampen it and see if that dampens vibration and see if it stops. So we're talking about net zero houses because there's teasing time 'cause Tom when he built his house. I mean, it's really well insulated and one time he made the mistake of telling me. Insulated house in Wisconsin. So then there are these things called zero zero zero energy, and then somebody Texan and have you seen a straw bale house? And so we looked it up. And it's basically you're making a house out of Trump's Trump bills, which I feel concerned about the wolf coming noble. No, it is done. Absolutely. I have never seen a strawberry hogs. I've heard of them. I've seen pictures of them and a straw Bill is actually a pretty good insulator. But you still have to build a structure to support the house in a structure to support the floor in. So in my mind, you'd be much better off building a very efficient structure insulated with modern materials, and that straw, bales. That would decks how I would say. But when we when I grew up in an old farmhouse in northern Illinois, and your sycamore, Illinois in our old farmhouse, the old houses were up out of the ground a little more. So the first floor was, you know, like a foot off the ground or two feet off the ground and our pipes would freeze in the basal and get cold. And we would go around in the winter, you've put straw bales. All on you. You you would put straw bales around the house, and they would be going on there twenty four inches high or something, and you just take a layer all the way around the house, and that would insulate the house when you keep the house warmers put straw bales around the house or listener consultancy program continues and eleven ninety five is checking in MS eleven ninety five. So I was wrong. I said Mr. so send your build a Tom Faiza? There you go you were talking about solar. And I'll tell you this. So I'm at Costco, and walking out, and they've got this big display set up, and it's the solar panels you can put on your roof and just I'm interest. Not that I do it. But I just said, oh interesting. I said, and he goes give me your address. So give him the address, and he he Google maps it, and he says now facing the wrong direction, we need them more south. But I thought that was really interesting for a that. He could see you know, where my house was. And if it would work and be capture my information. Right because I went into the database with you. Give me your address your I gave my dress. Yeah. My social security numbers that are problem. No, I'm kidding. But, but yeah, I thought I thought that was pretty cool because you can put this money into alternative energy. But is it paying back? Yeah. Well, yeah. In in solar panels, typically, Wisconsin, it's a really difficult. It's very difficult to get the payback. And if anyone was interested in following up on that I would suggest you work through focus on energy is on top of that program. So you're going to need some government rebates and some discounts and kind of things to do injure vailable, and they're going to be for some of the better products. And when we're talking solar today, we're talking about a panel that converts solar energy into electric, and then that somehow goes right into the grid. It doesn't because he used to be that those things just charge batteries. Right. And then you run run. It's a combination. Yeah. I think you're still depends on how you want it to work. So you'll use it to charge batteries to use in your house. And then if you have access than you can sell some into you need to have some kind of a storage system because when it's sunny and warm, you don't necessarily. We need the energy borough over the nighttime, you might need the energy. So the solar the storage of that energy is always the issue. Always a problem and there were days at youth. Remember that where they would Bill de solar houses, and they'd put a big pile of rocks in the basement, and then they'd circulate the warm air across the Powell racks when the sun was show. Sure, there's there's I've seen ten of those Wisconsin, and they were called envelope poems. So there's for sure. Yeah. Well, how would they store the energy? It was circulated down to the basement typically, and it will go through a ballast, which generally a bunch of rock. Glenn downstairs and sit on the rocks. We're gonna watch the Packer game. Iraq should be in a in container. Oh, ken. Bigger racks. So the air can flow across, but they would use ceramic tile and cement, and and that would warm up and store energy because of the thermal mass that you could use it night. And they and they never proved to be all that efficient or that good. But could try. Did some good things? "Oh, there was a question off the air about the cord meal. It is to pound her hundred square feet. So that's very little covering an area. I would hope that if you had a thousand square feet of Brown patch, and we're trying to treat that in the law and the proper way to treat that is to remove the lawn and plant something else. You know, we make that comment a lot, and it seems kind of flippant it's not. You can plant any plant you can find anywhere on the planet in your yard. And it will survive so long as you give it the environment it needs. Now think about that for a minute. I might be able to plant something, but the work required to have that one plant that one special plant growing could be so extreme so much water requirement. So much maintenance maintenance requirement having to spread having to give it special fertilizers disease control. Adding all that up for that one plant you better want that plant badly. You must want to dedicate to it. Why would you want to constantly battle like that? When it could be just as easy to pick a different plant or to remove that completely like a bad part of your turf after fighting it for years makes a great flowerbed a lot less work consider that simply from the labor perspective. If it's worth it to you. Great go for make sure that you're doing everything you can get that plant looking the way you want it to think about it hard because it is constant labor. There is a constant attention. When you have something that's not working well in a spot, and it's a lot easier to simply go, I could put something else here that doesn't require a so much of my time or effort. Let's go to the phone. This is Virginia. Good morning Virginia. What can I help you with good morning? Jeff. I have a question about roughly Dogwood. M Mexican Plum. Excuse me. We bought some several years ago and put them in to do smoke control on a flood plain find because they sucker finally they have suffered. And I need to know. I guess how long do I have to let the sucker mature before we have to separate before we can separate it off the mother plant, and how close can we sever those rates on the dogwoods? None of them are over twenty twenty four inches from another. So they're pretty close. Some of them are maybe six seven inches out. And we bought them because they did. Soccer. Yeah. Erosion control. And we want to move that along that hill. I have a question. The height of the sucker sounds appropriate. Now, if you were to try part of the problem, you're gonna have is here, you have your soccer. You have your parent plant hoping that as you were digging down that the root is running from sucker directly to parent, you know, where to cut it. So it's not a lot of digging for you, not disturbing the other routes. I would imagine if you can split the difference if they're twenty four inches tall. And they're or they're roughly twenty four inches if you're lucky twenty four inches from the parent plant split the difference go in twelve inches in between the two and that should be enough route. If you can lift it out of there to take that Dogwood sucker to transplant it. Okay. So it's more size than age of the sucker. Yeah. Because that as as sucker comes up it's going to have some real. Fine roots near the certain up in near the surface where it starts to point up. But some of those feeder routes are going to go from it to the mother and there's going to be fine hairs on that runner as much of that reduce you can get that fifty percent difference. A twelve inch cutting basically of that route should be enough to support that sucker. This is a good time to do it. And for folks who don't know roughly Dogwood is a pretty effective plan for what you're talking about. It can it's can handle the on and off of our water. It does sucker I planted one doesn't sucker quite as fast as you might think. Mine has doubled or tripled in size in about a decade. And I also expected it to grow faster than that. But you should be able to lift up a sucker if you've got twelve inches of route to attach should be more than sufficient for you to lift that out and put it somewhere else. Well, then I have a second question. I guess with that is my Mexican Plum, it's putting suckers out further down this hill. And that's great summer. Like, I've got one sucker that's like three or four inches. Would it be better just to cut it off or a Mexican Plum clump like that still blend still provide the little plums for birth? Should I cut it out? Or should I leave some very close? I I'm more around mine it's on a spot where I it's not serving the purpose of trying to stop the erosion. It's just a tree for me. Coli mo- mine, and it's kept it. Well controlled I would not. I would not think that the Mexican plumbers ineffective as effective as the dog would in trying to form that that for you. So that you could have that erosion control. I don't know how much success you would have in trying to leave each and every one of those shoots and let them slowly try to become a decent thicket of Mexican Plum. The other half of that is. Mexican plums are relatively speaking are short lived because they suffer the the fruit. Tree borers that are regular plums, and peaches, etc. Get here, and we tend to see Mexican plums will have a nice beautiful life. You know, they'll have that gorgeous spring blooms and they do provide food for wildlife. But in the big picture, they're not a real long lived tree, though, they usually succumb to the borers. Consider. Blame. It can't not play a of lame leave supermac that is definitely a suckering plant. I get suckers for it twenty feet away. And I have to maintain them multiple times during the year or it will turn into a huge thicket on me. So you might want to consider the pretty color of that. It does have a berry on it. That is food fast growing and good thickening. I don't know. If you're Mexican Plum would be it's equal. Okay. That's something to know. I didn't know they were so short so. Well, and that's a relative term we have one in the at the natural Gardner that only made it about one to twenty five years. Maybe not even that. So to me when we're talking to tree that's short lived. When you have trees set live thousands of years twenty five years. It's just kind of a flash in the pan. Well, it is but in enact berry country, that's pretty much long. Yeah. I do agree with that. I have my battles with act Bury's. Also. I don't think you'd be successful with the Mexican plumbing trying to force it to thick it. But it's still a fine tree with that route spread that is going to help the flame leave sue Mak would probably be a faster and more effective way. Your your dog? What is going to do what you're asking of it, and you can help it spread you won't have to help that sue maks, Brad? It'll put out suckers everywhere in a hurry. Oh, well, that's not what for some of that. Excuse me in the nurseries spring, then thanks a bunch you too. Thank you, ma'am. Yeah. Folks. This is a great plan. She has going on here. She has a slope. That is a roading nothing better to stop the erosion than plants that will spread their roots out and hold the soil in place. The Dogwood is a great one. Beautiful flower attracts insects. It's got butterfly food for it. And moderate thickening to help the erosion the flame supermac beautiful tree. And it's definitely one that will spread on you to help. Do the same thing folks were at the bottom of the hour. It's time for a news break. This is gardening naturally. After the break. "Thank you to Luna display for supporting download and all of relief him. All right. John before we go to ask. Right. I wanted to talk to you about basically, I wanted to fact check me I want you to I want to throw a splash cold water. And some of my crazy ideas. Can you do that family go for it? All right. The one that I keep coming back to is the external display thing. And this is I mitt that this is kind of a dumb idea. And yet, I also think it's kind of a brilliant idea, which is if Apple's gonna make external displays what about touchscreens like this. This is my counter to the whole surface studio argument, which is wonderful made a USB four K touchscreen that if you played into a MAC, it's just a screen, but if you plug it into an ipad pro it becomes a giant ipad, pro twenty four inch or whatever I had pro is that is that a what wacky idea is that unlikely idea what do you think since? Mccall reading on Twitter from one of the techniques dives into the guts, trout and Smith. Yeah. Our? Yeah. There's some other person goes by the handle Longhorn that anyway. What might have been might have been somebody else talking about how the capabilities external touchscreens. There's nothing really preventing that technically speaking in terms of the connection and the API is and protocols like that it ought to work at oughta be thing that you could do. As for the useless of that, I've been longtime proponent of much much bigger bads before they even went twelve inch. I was asking for bigger, ipads, and the twelve twelve one nine inch came out. I'm still asking for bigger I before the surface studio, I'm all in on big I pet one way to get that a semi reasonable way to have an extra screen. Bypass is a lot of the concerns. Busy like who's going to buy something like the studios as Microsoft, probably not that many people because it's like, well, it's not a super high power. But I also can't pick it up and use it as a tablet if you have it as an extra display like well my bed is my ipad. But docket is a well known pattern that we have where you have something small and portable like, your laptop or your duo, Docker, whatever. And when you sit down at your desk, you get a bigger richer experience them, and you get up you take it with you. I think that's perfectly feasible and would would be great and apple to do really cool product like that. I'm not sure if apple will look at the ipad pro doesn't make me think that they're leaning in that direction. But that's that's one way to address this market. Visit with Photoshop on the ipad ipad, stuck in being a portable product like the service seems like is not a particularly successful. But I think it proves an approach like that sort of drafting table very large display. You know, pencil stylus pen input on a bigger. Maybe not the big cylinder thing. Stuck on the screen Jerusalem. But the whole idea I think that has legs for sure. As a way to do sophisticated, but we typically think of as personal computer style stuff where you got a full big keyboard, and maybe you got a mouse, and you've got the pen, and you gotta let stuff does it have to be related. I can that be a really fancy touchscreen. Mac. Apple's got the whole issue to figure out. But I don't think external touchscreen is particularly wacky. I think it is one way where they can get to someplace that. I think they do need to go there other ways they can get their that definitely is one way. I mean, one of the other ways to get there is like the marzipan apps coming over from Iowa s which are initially designed with touch mind, and then presumably retrofitted for traditional mass and keyboard, you know, you win those apps are around and part of the MAC platform. I think it opened reopens the question about if max could accept touch input because then they're a little bit lake not quite but a little bit like what? Microsoft is done on windows, where there are some apps that are traditional apps that are really they need to be mouse and keyboard driven, and then there are other apps that are more touch friendly apps, and that would be another way because my feeling is like, ideally,.

"This is the poor man's meteorologist geek thing we've measured that in the five hours at Steve Lenora myself have been on the air, we have measured that is moved ten miles for Myrtle Beach to the west or so in that direction that works out to be two miles two miles an hour is it's current movement. That's pretty close the official tabulation from our senior hurricane specialist hasn't moving west southwest five miles per hour. And that's just kind of spits in spurts. It's spent most of the late night and predawn hours park to essentially over extreme eastern, South Carolina. So as long as as the core of the storm is over land it, of course, it's going to be weakening Windsor now down new maximum of fifty miles per hour with higher gusts, and this is exactly what we expected. This is trans forming now from a window along close than the storm surge now to a catastrophic of that over the interior portions, especially South Carolina and North Carolina. We've we've that some rainfall amounts of. That had already exceeded twenty four inches. That's in Newport. North Carolina was as a midnight. Newport that you don't you guys have a radar up in Newport. We we have a radars all over the east coast. So, but that's an actual rainfall measurement. That's not adopt the rest of it. That's an actual rainfall estimate. What I was. Meaning as you know, you've got a weather office up in Newport, also Newport morehead city area. Yes. Yes. We sure do. And and and I have yet to be able to talk to them because apparently they've got, you know, power phone all kinds of issues. Right. I think they have their hands full there. Yeah. That's an understatement. Repeat that again for our listeners how much rain that is we have a measurement of twenty four inches. That's two feet of rainfall at Newport, North Carolina. And that's as of midnight. It's still raining..

"Finally steers it inland laser this weekend. So, unfortunately, that means the rainfall totals a really gonna pile up. Okay. So are they different than those rainfall totals? Are we still looking at some places tween thirty and forty inches? Yeah. Those rainfall totals have gone up in Gordon just for some perspective on this. The all time rainfall total in North Carolina from any tropical storm or hurricane is twenty four inches during routine nine hundred ninety nine you may remember the epic flooding that occurred after hurricane Floyd. Well, now, the Hurricane Center in the national was forecast at some tolls could be up to forty inches of rain in parts of North Carolina. So rainfall all by the way, you also have the storm search flooding, the oceanwide that's gonna be pushed ashore, then the amount of water that they're going to have to deal with in parts of the Carolinas. It's just utterly mind boggling, and unfortunately, it looks like catastrophe in the making wow. And that flooding won't happen right away. Right. I mean, the things could peak in rivers and streams a couple of days after the storm has moved out. Yeah. You wait. I mean, I you're going to have. You're gonna have increasing coastal flooding. The hurricanes winds pushed the ocean water towards the coast. And then eventually the heavy rains move in event. Heavy rains going to persist for several days. And so, you know, the rivers are going to back up because they can't drain out to the ocean out to the sound because that oceanwide that's pushed in place in that water has to move downstream. So even areas downstream. May not get the heaviest rainfall could see some serious possibly catastrophic river flooding for over a week one. So this is unfortunately story that we're going to have to follow quite some time. Even after it's gone. Speaking live this morning with Jonathan Erdmann senior digital meteorologist at the Weather Channel talking about hurricane Florence. Is there a particular city or area that seems to be right in the middle of the worst of hurricane Florence? Well, Gordon for now our biggest concern for both storm surge flooding and the heaviest rainfall is going to be that area of southeast North Carolina. Wilmington North Carolina Cape fear. Right. So beach in those areas, but again, the forecast is changing in the heaviest rain track could actually shift a bit further south through the day. So increasingly parts of northern South Carolina. Maybe even eventually parts of southern South Carolina could get some heavier rainfall totals and then by the way, this has rain will also spread into the Appalachian mountains where it doesn't take nearly as much heavy rain to produce dangerous flooding because of the terrain. So we could have mud rockslides for the weekend. As far north as the mountains of West Virginia, the smoky mountains in North Carolina and even the mountains of north Georgia later this week. And so it's going to have an impact over a wide area, even well inland as on believable. Hey, thanks for few minutes again, which appreciated Jonathan urban senior digital meteorologist at the Weather Channel keeping us up to date on hurricane. Florence spoil. My take away from that hurricane Floyd in one thousand nine hundred nine dropped twenty four inches of rain on that area,.

"And further away i would go to centers of plants for something like a dwarfs by rea i would stay twenty four inches from the wall i don't think there's a chance in the world that a properly built wall would be heaved or bothered by plant like that on a center two feet away as you go to something bigger and and right now i'm not sure what you're going to use but let's just say should you be thinking burning bush or or one right now that's it's a dwarf well let's just say dwarf plants of that are a little bit more of body to them i would go to three foot centers up from the wall and i don't know what you're trying to create but i would make it very nonuniform i'd have some things that creep over to wall in one place some things that adds some height as the woods behind it is probably comprised of mini mini kinds of plants you just simply would follow that whole idea down into that ten foot area and so on so the the distance from the wall will have some importance let's just take a rose that is is up in that area i would still stay pushing toward twenty four at least eighteen inches if not twenty four inches from or up be above the wall so that you you you're going to have roots girl at all the way around but on the smaller plants they won't have much push now as to trees and one of the things that comes to my mind because his in bloom right now is the native plant now cultivated service berry if i were planning a service berry and having had well lots of time in grade with them and my own home i would stay five foot above the wall with a service berry or a red buddha red bud if that's one of your natives i would put it at probably even six feet up it will be a long time before the roots reach.
