Memorial Day A Quick Reminder.  Here are just a few facts about Memorial Day  I thought we should remember[  Decorations Day.  Some historians say that Decorations day is what we now call Memorial Day.  In the South mainly in the mountain regions.  Decorations Day is still recognized.  In these rare occasions it is usually a family owned graveyard.  These family owned graveyards hold the remains of family ancestors  from long ago fought wars and much more recent ones as well.  The celebration is a lot like todays more modern Memorial Day  In fact the TERM POTLUCK derived from "Decoration Day" celebrations.  Memorial Day  "Memorial Day" was first used in 1882. It was officially adopted in 1967.  However, The slow adoption of the term "Memorial Day" began right after WW2.  Memorial Day became the awesome three day weekend we all know and love.  When, congress passed the "The Uniform Monday Holiday Act" in 1968.  The Modern Day Holiday.  The Twenty First Century version of this Great and Important day  has lost its luster for most Vets. in 2002 the VFW put a Statement Out.  Changing the date merely to create three-day weekends has undermined  the very meaning of the day. No doubt, this has contributed  a lot to the general public's nonchalant observance of Memorial Day.  Congress passed the "National Moment Of Remembrance"  this bill suggests that people stop at 1500 (3 pm)  and observe a moment of silence for our fallen soldiers.  As the flag is raised on the Morning of Memorial Day,  it is BRISKLY Raised to the top of the staff  then slowly and sadly dropped to half staff ONLY until Noon.  As a Vet I do take this holiday a little more seriously than most.  I am not asking people to not have fun and enjoy the begging of Summer.  I would just like people to remember WHY they are eating burnt BBQ  and drinking luke warm beer.  And maybe just maybe at 1500 or 3pm we could have  just a moment of silence for the Brave men and women  that have died to give you the FREEDOM to enjoy this GREAT Country.  Thanks for listening and please Like and Share.
