Is today the day the vultures come?
So we managed to do this podcast for twelve entire episodes without getting into politics! But then we hit Episode 13. 😂 Don't worry, though, it's not bad. In fact we think it's really good! Apropos of our family visit in Vermont, Jamie unpacks his evolving and complicated feelings toward his parents, whom he loves very much, but from whom he has realized he's on the opposite side of a vast political divide over this last couple of years. We explore how and why that situation has recently improved, in the hope that it might help someone out there who's been experiencing the same thing with their family or loved ones. It was a great discussion – a very vulnerable discussion to have in front of microphones – and we hope it holds some value for you. And then in the second part of the episode, we talk through a listener topic from Jean W. When is it okay to be selfish? Spoiler alert: Shannon has some cool and somewhat avant-garde thoughts about this. 14. It's Verdict Day for Rachel Buffett's Accessory to Murder Trial.
14. On this episode of SLEUTH, we are once again back to our Santa Ana, California courtroom front row seat, as the accessory to murder trial of Rachel Buffett comes to a close. Prosecutor Matt Murphy and Defense Counsel David Medina delivered powerful summations to the jury of twelve. Matt Murphy believes he has proven beyond any reasonable doubt that Rachel Buffett is guilty of lying to police and helping her fiancee Daniel Wozniak cover up for his murderous crimes. David Medina argued to jurors that this case should be considered “the poster case for reasonable doubt” believing that he put on a defense that proves Rachel had nothing to do with the murders. Medina goes one step further by suggesting Rachel Buffett helped police by cooperating in helping lead police to— as Medina suggests “a treasure trove of evidence” to help convict— the man he calls “the monster Daniel Wozniak". Both attorneys have now learned the members of the jury are unanimously in agreement as to a verdict. Have you made a determination on what the verdict will be? Let’s listen as the jury forewoman renders their decision.

Change the World for Good
There is suffering happening all over the world. We all can do something. Children can be a great example. When you see a kid give up what little allowance they have to help someone else or set up a lemonade stand, you realize that what you’re able to give is enough. We can’t just turn a blind eye. For this Five Minute Friday, I revisited a conversation I had with Scott Harrison where he talked about living a life of giving. Scott Harrison was working as a nightclub promoter in New York when he became “morally bankrupt.” He sold all of his belongings and set sail to Africa in an effort to redeem himself. He returned to New York with one goal: to provide clean water to everyone on earth. Twelve years later, he’s raised over 320 million dollars and provided water to people in 26 countries with his nonprofit charity: water. He may not be driving a fancy car or going on huge vacations, but he is ending suffering for hundreds of people a day. For him, that means so much more. Learn what it takes to change the world for good in Episode 774.
