"Joe Brown Nicholson of Nicholson insurance agency. Joe, how do you value a horse for insurance? Well, Mike, it's easy to value a horse when purchased out of a public auction. The insured value would simply be the auction price. But ensuring home bridge can be a little more involved. How so? Well factors such as a stud fee, confirmation, pedigree, sales and race records of siblings, even popularity of the stallion, all come into play. How closely do you work with owners and determining a horse's value? Well, the owner has a pretty good idea of the horse's value. So generally, it's just a matter of agreeing to the request and having the policy issued. "The win in Dubai on turf last march was really, really strong. That's where I went Bobby, but I'm gonna play kind of against the U.S. sources and against the local horses and in some manner or facet play the Japanese horses. All right, so Dave likes number 7 panther Lhasa who's coming off a group one race in Hong Kong last time out where he ran behind romantic warrior. By the way, romantic warrior runs against golden 60 tomorrow night in Hong Kong at some time around three three 8 3 a.m. three 30 a.m. Eastern Time. I told you I'm a sicko. I know these things. All right, you're going with panthalassa. I'm going with number 6 June lightbulb, who I think is just becoming good at the right time. This was just kind of a listed stake type of horse in Japan for most of his career and suddenly he's turned into a graded stake or group stake type of horse in Japan winning a grade one or a group one last time out. I think he's getting good at the right time. I like that Ryan Moore is aboard. I like June light pole at 8 to one. I think if I'm going to use somebody with taba, that's who it would be of the ones I know tabe is clearly the best. I don't really have any knocks on table. I just think he's going to be a much lower price than what his 5 to two morning line is. Let's head back stateside. In fact, we're going to go to turfway park their featured race tomorrow at turfway is the $125,000 wintergreen stakes for Phillies and mayors going one mile there are four year olds and up here. We've got a field of, well, we've got 14 entered, 12 will run with two AEs, where'd you go? I went with burgoo alley because if the 12 to one morning line is anywhere remotely close to right, I think there's tremendous value. I think this is a fairly open race. Jonathan Wong has opening buzz 5 to two cow bread who is the favorite and I like Wong and I certainly like opening buzzes synthetic form one at Golden Gate, one at turfway park twice. One at del mar on the turf. I think this is a quality horus four of 6, but it's never run more than 7 furlongs gets too turns at turfway on the synthetic tomorrow number 7 Kate's kingdom certainly has good enough races to beat these. Was there an excuse last time as the 6 to 5 favorite did not run well at turfway park, but the previous few were really, really quite excellent. Number 8, public conchita for sheree devoe is a horse that last time out beat Kate's kingdom was 17 to one in that race, quite frankly it just hasn't run quick enough races to beat this group, but maybe is getting good at the right time. Certainly likes synthetic and ROI numbers on devoe on synthetic or great and with the rider are great. But if you really are going to give me double digit odds on burgoo alley and sure, this is a horse that's only run once on synthetic and has been running out in the West Coast. Last time I ran a sprint race, the figs and the quality of races that burglary have been in to just quite frankly are as good or better than everyone else. There's no one else in this race that's been running against a course like going global and burgh walli has not been disgraced against that one. Sure. Burgh Wally has not won since 2021. We don't know about this synthetic. I just think this is a big class drop and a very, very nice value. Okay, so burgoo alley for Dave, I went to the favorite number three opening buzz who I think the sprint races make him make her easily the one to beat if she can handle a mile, I think that's the biggest question mark. She's by Stanford out of an unbridled song there, at least on the damn side, doesn't sound like she'd have any problem. Just stretching out from a sprinter route if she handles it. She's the one to beat. I would use number 5 perfect as well in the wintergreen the featured race tomorrow at turfway park. Gulfstream park stake race tomorrow is the Gulfstream park sprint. These are four year olds and up going 6 furlongs on their main track field of 7 here, Dave, and another race with a ton of speed. Yeah, a ton of speed and you really can go a bunch of different ways. I mean, I understand that candyman rocket is 9 to 5 on the morning line and certainly loves Gulfstream three for three and two for three at the 6 furlong distance, but those aren't stakes races that candyman rocket has won the last couple of times. Now this is, of course, the one the Sam F Davis in 2021 and is certainly capable. I think Beaumont horses tend to get better as they move along in the work on February 13th as of the bullet variety. So if you like candyman rocket, I certainly have no issue with that, but I don't think that's a foregone conclusion by any stretch of the imagination. Lightning Larry number 6, I think, is going to be rolling early right with candyman rocket, uncle Ernie has speed early in the race. I ended up with number one scaramucci, but exactly for the reason you suggested. I think scaramucci is going to run late. I don't love the fact that all of the winds are at parks and last time out at Gulfstream didn't run well, but I'm tossing that. It's a turf race. The two races before that lesser tracks are very, very credible. The figs fit in cure. This is not the horse that I would normally back, but from a pace standpoint and a value standpoint. I think scaramucci fits very nicely. Is candyman rocket the most likely winner? Sure, maybe, but I'm going to try some value and particularly try to beat a horse that I think is going to be a short price racing on a very, very quick tempo. All right, we're on the same horse. I like scaramouche as well. For everything you said, I think the last race is a pitch. I think he should close and erase a ton of speed and 6 to one is a very fair price on a horse who I think on his day is about as good as anybody else in this field we'll see if he gets the right trip getting back to what looks like would be his preferred surface. He's worked well on the Gulf Stream dirt since that debacle on the turf last time out. Scaramucci for Dave and me in the Gulfstream park sprint race 9 tomorrow at Gulfstream. All right, we're going to take another break. When we come back, we're going to head to New York. They've got two stakes on their Saturday card. This is the weekend stakes preview on the horse racing radio network. Sam

"So I'm going to give a timid timid vote to the lecomte to say that there might be a horse that comes out of that wins the Derby. All right, the timid vote from Tim. By the way, that Leonardo steaks that you just referenced at turfway park. That is the race that rich strike finished third in last year. And then eventually went on and upset the Kentucky Derby. So maybe wise to keep an eye on horses running there. Don't throw it out completely because it does have some history and some credence to it now that rich strike has gone through that race and then gone on to won the Derby. Dale, what say you? So I have to agree with him I think to the clump would be more likely I think one of the Phillies down here would probably go on and be the oaks, but Brad sources look pretty strong in both races. So I would say I'm going to go look confident if either one of them happens, I would say if you want to Brad sources. All right, it's a long shot. There's a long way to go, but we'll see how it plays out. Time will tell, Timmy taking the Philly side of things, right, Timmy, a timid vote from the Willy side. Are you going to go with the cold? Sorry, so both of them going with the colts and the cop stakes, potentially producing a Kentucky Derby winner later this season. All right, time now as we do every week here on I asked they answer to honor our friend Nick zito and find out if the following statements are right or wrong. Yeah, right or wrong. Am I right? What do you think? Right or wrong? All right guys, three topics to dive into here. Two international star jockeys are calling Santa need a home this meet. You have champion Frankie detore and woodbine leading writer kazushi Kimura. De Tori currently sits with 5 wins while Kimura scored his first Santa Anita win and first graded stakes victory in the U.S. when he won the grade three la pinata last weekend. If I were to say, kazushi Kimura will be the one to have more wins at the end of the meat, would I be right or wrong? What do you think?

"News there that we're going to get to see the breeders cup champ wonder wheel. It sounds like within a couple months somewhere here in Florida. Welcome back to the weekend stakes preview. We've got two more stakes to look at, Dave. One tomorrow one on Sunday, and as we came out of break, we heard the stretch run of the grade three Ontario matron, which was on one rent on run on the synthetic track at woodbine in October and a good win from well off the pace by Kate's kingdom that day. She was an 8 to one outsider that afternoon came back with a win at turfway park on their synthetic track in the my charmer and figures to be the favorite tomorrow in the likely exchange race number 7. She's the 8 to 5 morning line favorite. Do you think that price will hold up? I think you're going to get a little bit less simply because there's not a whole lot to choose from when you get past her. I think if she's 8 to 5, she's not only the bed and here she's probably the better the weekend. Unless you have a strong reason to believe that a mile is not going to be to her liking because she generally runs longer than that. I don't really see reason to believe she shouldn't be an even money favorite in here. What is the difference between this race and the race she ran in last time that looks awfully similar to me and she won that race and you know, I guess she was what were the odds that day three to two 8 to 5? She just wanted 8 to 5 and she's doing something very similar. Why should she be 8 to 5 again? I think she's going to be even money and maybe something under that. I'm not sure who else you can really like in here. Number two shoshani moon has three consecutive wins. They're at Charles town. Hey, three wins or three wins in the figs are okay, but those are dirt races. Those are 6 and a half furlong races. This is a mile on this synthetic, you know that I'm going to be conchita a little bit at an enormous price this shari devoe trainee has no figs that put her anywhere remotely close to this field. But second off a layoff, one at turfway last time ran an okay race at Saratoga over the summer, but doesn't seem to fit. Does seem to like synthetic more than anything else. Number ten fair game seems like a pretty sizable step up, but has some wins on the card and at reputable tracks like Churchill downs and I don't know, maybe fair game is going to run the best race of her life, but this will be try number 14 and she's generally not bet a whole lot and she's stepping up in class. Kate's kingdom looks as close to a shoe in his we have on tomorrow straight as far as I can tell. I think she won last time out and didn't even fire her best shot. So she's capable of better than that. And we'll see if she fires even better as Dave said, she's going to be tough to beat. I don't know what kind of price you're going to get on Kate's kingdom 8 to 5 on the morning line. Probably a little bit lower at post time, but if it's not her, I don't know who it is. So like you, Dave, I'm going to take the chalk and Kate's kingdom in race 7, the likely exchange at turfway park. Final stake, we're going to look at is one of only two Sunday states. We already talked about the grade three lock and yada moved from Saturday to Sunday. Over at sunland park, their featured race on Sunday is the $100,000 loss in Europe, and these are New Mexico bread, three year old Phillies, sprinting 6 furlongs, field of 6 here. Number 6 Hannah's high life is the morning line favorite. Yeah, I found this race to be fairly difficult to handicap, Hannah's high life one last time at sunland has won back to back races and I don't know. I mean, one of two courses that has a win at the track that the fig last time fits in here, but certainly doesn't overwhelm. I wouldn't take too short a price, but Hannah's high life certainly can win and the trainer is very, very hot at this particular moment. I think the trainer that I think of in New Mexico that's kind of always really high end is Todd Fincher and he's got a couple of them in here. Number two, mama was a rocket is 5 to two on the morning line coming off a second place effort last time out, two back ran in a state bred stakes race finished third by a length and in that race finished third by a length at 25 to one and her stablemate do or not a fake or who's back in here too. Number four was four to one in that race and missed by a length and a quarter finishing in fourth that day. I think both of the finches have a chance. I think Hannah's high life has a chance crossfire girl number 5 kind of fits in with this group as well. Always gets bet, finished second to Hannah's high life last time. I think Fincher probably is the best on the grounds there and because do or not a faker was the big favorite over mama was a rock last time. That's where I'm going to go Fincher's very, very good off the layoff and you get a little value at four to one. Well, I'm also going to take a Todd Fincher trainee. I'm going to go with the 5 crossfire cowgirl because she has been favored against mamas, a rocket and Hannah's high life for the last two starch isn't beaten those Phillies. Now she's going to be a better price. I think she's capable of better than what she's shown. I think she's going to get a nice stalking trip from the outside and certainly a better price than we've seen in her last fact she has not been higher than 8 to 5 in any of her last 5 races. She will be higher than 8 to 5 on Sunday. 11 races in the book, Dave time now for the best bets.

"Race for betting. So we didn't put it in. Okay, ten races in the books for the weekend takes preview presented by naira bet, so it's time for the naira bets, best bet. This is the naira beds, best bet. I'm gonna take a little page out of my regular co host Dave Friedman's book. Sometimes Dave can't decide on just one best bet so he gives out more than one. I'm also gonna give out two that I really like this weekend. I guess if I had to pick one, it would be the one I just most recently spoke about. And that's field pass in the Prairie Bayou raised 7 tomorrow at turfway park goes at about three 45 p.m. Eastern Time. Field pass is as classy, if not classier than the others in this race. He's coming out of graded stakes in three of his last four starts. He's running in this non graded stake tomorrow at turfway park where he's facing some horses who let's face it are non graded state type horses or allowance horses trying to prove their mettle. Field pass has already proven what he can do. He's already agreed to stake winner and he's two for two on synthetic tracks and as I mentioned about three minutes ago, I think he may be as good if not even better on synthetic than he is on turf. And if he is, he's going to win and he's 6 to one on the morning line might make or trains Joe Ramos aboard and Joe Ramos having a great start to the turfway meat clicking at about a 21% rate. The other race that I'm really interested in is the springboard mile. It looks to me like a two horse race on paper. And those two horses are the morning line favorite echo again and giant mischief. It would not be surprised me if echo again just goes out in giant mischief as the only one who has a chance to get him. It kind of looks like there's a chance that one or two of these others could try to go with echo again early on. And if he gets any pressure early on, it's going to play into the hand of giant mischief. And to be perfectly honest, I'm not sure giant mischief just on his own merit isn't better than echo again. I think the race he ran last time out is about as good as any two year old that we have seen thus far this year. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think he had a chance of beating Arabian Lion in that allowance race on the undercard, a breeders cup Friday. Arabian line looked like a standout to me. And if he was going to get beat, I didn't think giant mischief was one of the logical ones to beat him coming off a win albeit with a troubled trip at horseshoe Indy in his career debut. But he proved me wrong. He was awesome coming up the rail and wearing down Arabian line who really had no excuse. I think Arabian Ryan Ryan ran his race, but giant mischief was just better than him that day. And as I said, they were about 18 lengths clear of the third place finisher that day giant mischief should not have trouble stretching out around two turns being by into mischief out of a giant oak mayor and Laurent Giroud maintains them out for trainer Brad Cox, two favorites look like the logical and the springboard mile, but at the price, especially giant mischief, three to one, give me three to one all day on him. I think he is going to have a big chance to get the job done in the springboard mile. Folks, the action continues this weekend at aqueduct and across the racing world it's aqueduct winner. "On the microphone. Welcome back, final segment on bedding with Bobby. This evening as we lead toward the weekend stakes preview, here we owe you some prices from fairgrounds, the 8th race was won by number three. Hey, you never know. Hey, you never know is a two year old bay Philly by golden sense out of the money's mayor classic vision owned by wing a prayer racing trained by Sam David junior marcelino pedrosa junior aboard hay you never know who returned $1345 and 360. Second, 7 13, $4, three 40, third, 5 cushy at three 40 and fourth number 8 sole titles ready. The $2 exact the 55 $82 $169 20 cents. The dollar super effective paid $391 and 60 cents. That's going to wrap up the live racing action today. Once again, I want to remind everybody coming up next day Friedman joins me as he always does on Friday nights for the weekend stakes preview presented by naira bets. We're going to look at a dozen races from around North America this weekend. We're looking at races at aqueduct at woodbine at turfway park at fairgrounds at Oakland park as well as Tampa Bay downs basically all running the gamut. This weekend, no real big stakes that we're going to look at is we're kind of in that middle section here. We've already completed the breeders cup and all those major race days that lead up to it were just on the verge of both the championship meet at Gulfstream park opening in a few weeks and opening day at San Anita, which was always monstrous laurels going to have a big day on the 26th as well. So a little bit slower these next few weeks, but fairgrounds has a lot of stakes tomorrow all state bred stakes, some really interesting runners running down in New Orleans tomorrow. We're going to look at several of those races as well as suddenly others from around the country. Reminder everybody, tomorrow and every Saturday morning here on the network is the equine forum presented by twin spires. "And without further ado, I do welcome in the Kentucky senator, Damon thayer, Damon appreciate the visit, my friend. Mike, good morning. It's great to be back on your show. I hope you're doing well. I am doing extremely well. And you know I have to tell you, I wanted to read that first because it really speaks to what's happening here with the breeding industry, but there are some wonderful things going on on the racing side of things that horsemen are taking advantage of in the numbers prove it out. We had a really good run the last couple of years in the Kentucky General Assembly. With benefits for the racing and breeding industry and in terms of new laws, we codified historical horse racing machines in the wake of a negative Supreme Court decision. HHR had existed for about ten years in Kentucky. On the back of several positive court decisions and a letter that I saw it from the attorney general back in 2009 on its para mutual legality and it had been regulated by the racing commission, then we had that awful Supreme Court opinion in 2020. We came back in 2021 and passed a law in the statute that said, HHR is para mutual horse racing, just like live racing, simulcast, advanced deposit wagering, it is para mutual racing and should be treated as such in terms of the way it's that. Then we came back this year and passed House Bill 6 O 7 sponsored by my good friend Adam Koenig. And we set a tax rate. A one and a half percent flat tax across the board on those four different types of wagers. And of course, not only does the HHR help fuel regular base purses for horses bred anywhere in the world, but it fuels the money for the Kentucky thoroughbred development fund. And we're just seeing our purchase skyrocket. We saw $150,000 made special rates at Kentucky downs, $100,000 maiden specials at Keenan right now at Churchill downs, the maidens are going for a 120,000 and when turfway opens up on Wednesday night for its four month winter racing stand, the purses are going to be $70,000. Those are the same versus that they're offering for maiden's at delmar right now. It's going to be extremely competitive with Gulfstream park this winter. I was at Churchill downs on Thanksgiving Day. And talked to a number of horsemen, and it's amazing the number of horsemen who are leaving a string in Kentucky for the winter to take advantage of those big winter time purses at turfway park. Churchill downs as elected to leave the trackside training center formerly known as sports spectrum, open for the winter. So a lot of horsemen are leaving a string there. I talked to rusty Arnold. He's leaving 20 at keenland and of course Churchill downs is building 5 new barns at turfway park, which will increase by 180 to stall capacity there. So a lot of horsemen there Tyler pickle simmer, the racing secretary at turf, told me they had 2000 stall applications for a thousand stalls at turfway. So two years ago, when we were passing the historical horse racing Bill, Senate Bill one 20 sponsored by senator John scheckel, I said that we were within a couple of years of having the best year round racing circuit in America and I think the future is very bright, but Mike, I think we're there. I think we're there. And the field size is huge. I mean, yeah, we've had some setbacks. The persons at Alice park in the summertime are not as big as we'd like yet. But Churchill downs just bought it. And they're committed to doing the same things at Alice park that they've done at turf way to make sure that this year round race and circuit is as strong as it can be. And I know a lot of racing fans are critical because the turf course at Churchill downs didn't come didn't grow in as fast as they would have liked it. How many companies do you know are spending $10 million putting in a new turf course? Not many. So I think it's nothing but blue sky and also a big win for the betters. We're the first and only state to require that race tracks at 80 ws have winning payoffs to the penny to the penny mic instead of to the dime. And that's a huge tax cut for horse players. And I'm sure your listeners who are playing whether live or simulcast or via 80 W are noticing that they're getting a lot more money back when they cash winning bets. Other states need to look at this. I think not only do we have the best purses, the largest field, but we are the most pro horse player friendly racing state in North America right now. And Damien, you mentioned the fact that you think we're there when it comes to having the best year round racing racing product. And I think that's true. I think when you talk about $70,000 maiden purses at turfway park, I think you can certainly make that case, is this has happened in a very short period of time as you pointed out. Is this just the tip of the iceberg? Is there are there still bigger things to come for racing here in Kentucky? I think so I still think we're in the reintroduction stage. Just I'll give you an example. When gun runner broke is made in the fall of this two year old year at Churchill downs, it was a $33,000 purse. When epicenter also owned by my friend Ron Winchell broke his maiden last year at Churchill downs, it was a $120,000 purse. Yeah, I think especially at Alice park and turfway. I mean, let's be honest. Those are the two impediments to having a great year round racing circuit because their purses aren't as big as those offered at keeneland, Kentucky downs and Churchill downs. With Churchill buying Ellis park and committing to improvements and person creases, they're made in the summer where $60,000. I think you're going to see those continue to go up. And I think you're going to see added race dates at Ellis park. No confirmation of this yet from CDI. But they've been racing under the previous ownership. They've been racing three days a week. I think you could see Ellis park heading back for four days a week, maybe eventually 5 days a week of racing. Which I think will add to the competitive nature because horsemen want those racing opportunities. In three days a week is fine, but I think harshman would like this if we can have horsemen stay here instead of going to Saratoga. And I think you're going to see I think you're going to see those four days a week racing opportunities. Same at turfway park, I think when I worked there, it's ironic. I moved here to Kentucky, 30 years ago this month to work at turfway park. And we used to raise 5 days a week back then. And we do have some headwinds in this country in terms of the smaller fall crop and we are trying to maintain an average field size of 8 horses per race as a challenge. But I think if the larger purses bring horses here from other places or key ports here instead of going to Saratoga in the summer and to folklore and fairgrounds and Gulfstream in the winter, I think you'll see those field sizes increase and I think you'll see the Churchill downs team consider adding race days to the schedule in the summer in the winter. And that's why I think you still got a lot of upside in Kentucky racing. You know, we just we just had an amazing breeders cup at keenland. The handle was the highest in the history of the breeders cup event two of the best tracks to host the breeders cup are here in Kentucky team. And Churchill downs. I think you're going to see those tracks host the breeders cup. More frequently. We knew that keenland was a great event. But unfortunately, we knew the Churchill was a great venue for hosting it. But unfortunately, COVID pandemic hit team on in 2020 and had to run it without fans, but look at the look at the numbers from this year and the quality of the racing, just a great venue.

"So if you were deserving three 38 and you only got three 20 and I use that example, that would be first win mutual in a penny breakage environment last Friday the first race that was a week ago. That the wind takeout rate, the effective amount that is held back from players for that particular race was over 22% under the old system with penny breakage. It was only 17.6%, I think it was. It was a, it was a real win for players. So this is real cash back in your pocket. This is getting more. It is a rebate on every pan. That customers didn't have previously. And we look at that as a win win across the sport. Pat, you've been in this game a long, long time, and not only are you in the game on the business side, you've owned horses. I know you like to play the game, obviously you're headed to Monmouth for a phenomenal day of racing tomorrow for the Haskell in the United Nations and all that fun stuff. You and I know several people who are in this game that have tried to help the betters by lowering the takeout and to me, it doesn't seem like it's worked, you know, better the few players that talk about takeout are not the players that seem like they're driving the handle. This on the other hand, unless I miss reading this, could actually increase handle at all of these Kentucky tracks. I think there are going to be people paying more attention to the races in Kentucky now than ever before. This is more money back in the hands of horse players, more money for them to churn. I completely agree, Bobby. And you know, when I first started tackling this and I sat down with some different track operators and was running through the numbers, I said, I can put any number in here of how much of this money is going to come back as churn. If you put more money back in the hands of horse players that will mean more money through the windows. If you say 90% of it comes back, you need to send it to comes back. Eventually, if you give them more today than you did yesterday, you will have more churn back. It is just pure reality. And what we try to sell on this is that renewing the takeout cycle, starting again with another 16 or 15 or 17%, whatever it is. That is more meaningful long term for everyone in the business than just taking that breakage amount one time. And we're going to prove the point here. There's a lot of factors that go into this just like there is handicapping race. Many different factors that will go into determining whether or not handle is up in Kentucky or not. At the end of the day, more money is going back to the horse players. And I think that will mean they will churn more. I know if I go to Monmouth tomorrow and in the first race, I hit a $1000 trifecta. My hand is going to be a little higher for the day, Bobby. I don't just take that win and throw it all in my pocket. What do you mean, what do you mean if you hit a $1000 trifecta? That's the wrong thinking buddy. After I'm up a $1000 after the first year. After my hotel and my flight is covered, then it's just we're downhill, you know, it's free rolling. All right, well, I would loosen up. I can speak on behalf of a lot of fellow horse players. I can not thank you enough for what you and everyone else at T IF is done in working with the folks in Kentucky to get this done. This is absolutely fantastic. Really appreciate everything. Wishing you the best, my friend. I'm sure we'll see each other soon. But either way, best of luck at Monmouth tomorrow. And keep doing what we've always wanted people to do. Look out for the betters. Thanks, Bobby. I couldn't agree more appreciate. I appreciate the time and the support and keep firing away. All right, my friend. Pat Cummings, the executive director of the thoroughbred idea foundation he and his team have worked tirelessly on behalf of owners and betters and boy have they done something big for the betters obviously with a big assist from the folks in Kentucky who are really the ones who are heroes in this spot as well. I mean, it's unreal. All I can do, folks, is explain it this way. It doesn't matter how much I bet or how much pat bets or how much you bet really. Just imagine, if you count it up, every play that you've cached in Kentucky over the last month. It doesn't matter if you won for the day. Just every ticket you've cached. And figured out if you were going to get an extra four and a half cents for every dollar that you made. Figure out how much extra money you have in pocket. I told you, I made an extra $90 last in one day. Betting Alice park the other day. $90 just free, not like somebody was taxing me 90 before. We just didn't have the choice. That 90 was gone. 90 extra dollars because I got the max out of a certain payment and whatever. But it's phenomenal. This lack of breakage, I can only hope that there are other states that follow suit. My fear is it won't happen very often, but it's happening in Kentucky, and we like to play Kentucky races. Alice park turfway park Churchill downs keenland, Kentucky downs. By the way, not only just thoroughbreds, harness racing corps horse racing, all racing in Kentucky, the elimination of breakage, it is phenomenal. Okay, we're going to take our first break. When we come back, we're going to get out to Saratoga for our first live race of the day horses are in the paddock. Just getting being saddled, they've got about 8 minutes to post for race 7 up at the spa. This is betting with Bobby presented by Caesar's race book. The Caesars race book app has arrived. "Whether you're betting online, hopefully with our friends at Caesar's race book or you're at the track, whatever you're betting, the races in Kentucky. Alice park, turfway park, keenland Churchill, downs, Kentucky downs, whatever. You may only notice $5 difference. That day, you may notice less if you're not very lucky. You may bet more and notice 15, $20 difference in a day. Not earth shattering for one day, but think of that going forward. Think of all the extra money that you're going to be getting now because of the breakage rule basically going away. And those of you out there saying, okay, so what's in it for the racetracks? Because by the way, the breakage used to go to the tracks and the purses. And if you're betting on an AEW, it would go to the a DW company. So why would these tracks agree to this? My guess is it probably has something to do with allocations of more slot machines, something like that down the line. I don't know for sure. I think that's probably what it is. As a better, I don't care. You're giving me the money that I'm entitled to, that I've been entitled to my whole life. Think about that. Think about all the extra money you would have now. I shouldn't say that some of us are degenerates. We're betting anything that we have in our pocket. But for those of us who aren't, think of all the extra money that you have lost out on, and now that you can get going forward by betting racing in Kentucky, it's fantastic. And it's a little weird to see if you watch the Ellis park feed, they're showing daily double probable payoffs and things like that, and they're showing like $17, 36 cents. And you're not used to seeing that. My first thought was, I don't think I'd want to be a mutual clerk at a teller in Kentucky right now. That's a lot of pennies you're going to be dealing with. But I'm not a mutual clerk in Kentucky. I'm somebody who likes to bet on races in Kentucky. I'm happy about this. It's a good thing for the betters. And let's face it. There aren't a whole lot of good things when you're talking about stories as far as better as a concern. It always seems like the betters are getting the short end of the stick. This is exactly the opposite. I'm very excited about it. Okay, we're going to take our first break. When we come back, we are going to dive into race 7 at Saratoga. Horses are in the paddock right now. It's a myelin and 8th main track event on a beautiful day up at the spa. Let's see if we can make a little bit of money. This is betting with Bobby presented by Caesar's race book. The Caesars race book app has arrived. Bet on races it tracks around the world from

"This week talking about why his Philly is running against the boys in the Belmont stakes. There have been just three Phillies to win it once in recent memory when rags to riches beat kerlin some pretty interesting points there. He calls the CC oaks a cute little race. Well, there's a cute little race with an enormous prize and I think it's got, you know, one of those races that if you win it, it significant, but obviously Mike ripoli believes in a lot of people think that waning a race like the Belmont or even competing in a race against the Beaumont brings more fans. It brings more attention it's better for the sport better for New York racing and that is a real chance today. I thought it was interesting what Dave grinning said in our first segment on the equine forum that nest had she won the Kentucky oaks, maybe would have been getting a lot of hype, but no one is really talking about her. She won the Ashland by over 8 lengths won the sun coast by more than 6 lengths and secret oath just ran an enormous race on the first Friday in May, nest ran a very respectable second. Obviously, that was against the girls we saw a secret oath run at the Preakness stakes against the boys and ran a credible race, not good enough to win, but was okay. It nest gets to take on the boys today, and it is not one of those incredible Belmont stakes fields. It does not appear to have the one or two or three horses that you just think about as a showdown that a 100,000 people are in town to watch, so maybe nest for Napoleon pletcher who have teamed up on so many great horses over the years has a chance, the daughter of kerlin obviously kerlin very, very good long distance racing. You would think that nest would be a factor in this race. I personally think 8 to one on the morning line is a little bit crazy. If you think we the people is the lone speed, great. If you think that modern goal should be the favorite and has the best resume, fantastic after those two, though, rich strike had the incredible Kentucky Derby, but is he going to get pace like that today? Seems sort of unlikely that previous races quite frankly aren't good enough. The races from turfway park on the synthetic, the gun runner at fairgrounds, those races aren't good enough to win. The Belmont stakes today creative minister has looked good, but three races in 5 weeks. I think nest has a real chance and at 8 to one is someone you need to look at very, very closely. And whether she wins or not, it is good for the sport to have a girl running against the boys, getting that opportunity and.

"Just in front. Here's the line, express train. What a campaign. The San Antonio, the San pasqual, and now the Santa Anil handicap so express train certainly put together a nice run here in recent months and certainly touting himself as the top older horse around, obviously Medina spirits passing took away a little from that and you get the horses running out of town, the hot rod charlies and those sorts. I mean, it's hot rod Charlie is southern Cal based horse at this point. How often do we see him down there? You know, British cup I guess, but yeah, and so nice win in ward, very game performance. I thought he proved himself quite violent because he turned for home like express train was going to kind of start inching away. And get to him, but not able to, as express train scores a nice victory account again, Flavia prat filled a motto seems like tomatoes been heating up a little bit as of late at least when I've been watching down there and scores as the favorite again. Form full latter half of the card. I think the late pick 5 paid, a 197 bucks, the coast to coast pick 5, paid 85 bucks, so it was very full, even dirt turf, whatever. As time goes by in the beholder mile, the baffert horse winning by two and a quarter lengths, miss bigley ran a pretty good one actually to battle on for second, they were way, way clear if the other two, but the four horse fields with gate to wire, they're just, they just leave so much to be desired and talk about. I almost just don't want to talk about it. So we'll skip over that. The San Felipe stakes now we got to talk about, which I guess was a wire to wire small field, but certainly more dramatic with forbidden kingdom opening up that huge margin and just kind of holding on. A lot of talk about him after this race because, you know, for obvious reasons, he won the 7 furlong race last time, stretched it out to a mile and a 16th here. And I think got a 98 buyer number was the number I saw for that. And, you know, can he do what he does at a mile and a quarter on the first Saturday in May? To be determined. I'm sure we'll see him once more. Unless they're going to train up for the last 9 weeks or whatever it is to The Kentucky Derby. But, you know, he really just kind of ran them off their feet, doppelganger came with a bit of a run. I thought I actually thought about the quarter pole. I kind of thought like, okay, he's gone. I mean, you know, 45 and change is pretty honest going a mile of 16th. I know San Anita can play fast, but I really thought that they were going to come get him now the last quarter of their 26 and two and 7 for the last 16th. Okay, not blazing, but you know, he wasn't really getting asked a ton. And speed is speed is a weapon, right? And you can certainly use that to your advantage. And I think this is one horse that did that. Again, the question is going to be the distance. Also, you know, I mean, it's not crazy to think that other horses can go 45 and change. And you've got to think they're going to want to slow that down, going a mile and a quarter. And if classic causeway kind of proves that he's a horse in the Tampa Derby, who just doesn't want to rate and wants to go quickly up front, you know, and be on the lead. I mean, there's other speed horses too, right? I mean, why the bario, I don't know, I don't know that he's necessarily a speed speed type like forbidden kingdom appears to be. But you know, it's Mandela, so I think people are excited. You know, classic kind of barn from out west. Scoring a nice win. Big speed figure open like march. I get why people are excited about forbidden kingdom. And to me, one of the interesting parts of the Derby has always been the. The west versus east kind of thing, right? Because the West Coast horses have to ship out of east. And really because of other than turfway park, everybody's shipping in from out of town when they get to Churchill. I mean, there's really not, there's going to be one maybe two Kentucky based horses that are coming in. So it is kind of this fun convergence, but it always seems like the West Coast versus east coast is kind of the comparison that maybe gets made more so than the Florida versus New York and what have you. So looking forward to that and obviously a huge win by forbidden kingdom. Another big wire to wire win on Saturday city, the Buena Vista was lakes galore where Ricky Gonzalez for Phil d'amato again who I mentioned opened up by 8 and held on. This one was a little bit closer late is going to Vegas came with a nice rally and we see these fair bit and mild turf raises, right? The horse that opens up and holding on is a different story. In the San Carlos, it was Cezanne for Bob Baffert and flavian Pratt scoring from just off the pace of Canadian pride as a big favorite in that one. So a fun day out of San Anita park big day and you know, as I said, I know we haven't been paying as much attention to Southern California. Part of all the drama going on out there, I'm sure I'm avoiding it, and I just don't get to watch it as much because of my schedule and where I'm at. That obviously changes when I'm out west for the months of May, June and July. So I guess me and June just this year. And then in the fall. So maybe we'll talk more about those, and I got a nice message from David duggan, who's the GM at Golden Gate fields the other night on Twitter and.

"Eastern Time on Sunday once again America's day at the races on FS two, both tomorrow and Sunday. All right, Dave, we've got three more races to look at. And we heard the rejoin there of Russia winning very impressively in the great two pat day mile back in 2020. That was over a year ago. He shows up as one of the favorites tomorrow at turfway park in the $100,000 Prairie Bayou stakes, three year olds and a mile in the 16th on the synthetic main track there. We've got a big field of 11 going to post. And a race that really, really is wide open, some super professional runners in this race. Headlined by the morning line favorite snapper Sinclair who seems to run well any place you run them in any distance you run them. Yeah, snapper Sinclair lost a life is good in the breeders cup dirt mile last time out. To me, this race comes down to who likes the course. And I have a really, really hard time with the stakes races on synthetic where you get horses like snapper Sinclair and rushy who have never run on the surface. I don't know what to expect out of them. I think those are two of the three horses. I like best in here, but for me, this synthetic specialists don't look quite as classy. They have not beaten as good a horses. I'm going to tell you exactly how I'm going to play this race. I don't know if it's going to lead us to the winner or not. I'm playing a three horse exact box with snapper Sinclair, rushy and cross border. I think there's a three classiest horses in the race. I also think there's plenty of speed in here and all three of them can pick off horses down the lane. Picking one horse to win, I'm taking cross border, best price and has a win on the synthetic though it was a long, long time ago. I'm a big, big rushy fan, but Russian snapper Sinclair may or may not like the synthetic surface cross border I know at least can handle it a little bit and all three of them should be running on late. I like the way you're thinking in this race. And first of all, it's no surprise to anyone that I'm going to pick against snapper Sinclair for one simple reason. He ran in the breeders cup and he's running back before the end of the year after running in the breeders cup, and I'm against these horses. Every chance I get, especially the lower the price they are. And he's going to be favored or one of them. I'm not saying he's not as good as any of these in this field. And he actually may be the best horse in the race. But I think tomorrow is not going to be the day for snapper Sinclair. I'm with you. Number 8 cross border 8 to one on the morning line from Mike maker and Alex a chart. I think he's the class of the field. His recent races, past performances littered with grade ones and grade twos and he's actually 20 very well in those races. In fact, winning the great two Bowling Green at Saratoga just four starts ago. You mentioned these one on the synthetic track in the past. I think he's a better horse now than he was then. He hasn't seen the synthetic track in a long, long time, but this is probably the I don't want to say the easiest field. But certainly one of the lightest fields competition wise that he's faced in a while, and maybe that's simply because he's out of New York and not running in a greater stake on the turf. I think you're right. I think there's enough pace in this race for somebody to come closing and at 8 to one. I don't see how you could leave cross border off the ticket. Whether you think he's the best horse or not, he should get the right trip in this spot and he's run well on this kind of surface. So Dave and I both agree that number 8 cross border has a big chance at 8 to one tomorrow in the Prairie Bayou featured race number 5 on the turfway park card tomorrow goes at 8 14 p.m. Eastern Time. Okay, let's move on to the Sunday action Dave. Got a couple of nice stakes on the aqueduct card on Sunday, starting with race number 7, goes about three O 9 Eastern Time. It's the $100,000 graves end for three year olds and up going 6 furlongs on the main track short, but sweet field of 6 going to post and some pretty fast horses in here and a horse that's really on a roll right now in number 5 wonder where Craig is for Brittany Russell and Luis sias. Listen, if you're going to lure Luis Sia's away from Gulfstream with the way he's been riding down there this time of year, you've got to have something pretty good up your sleeve and I think that's what wonder where Craig is exactly where he lays. Yeah, Brittany Russell is having a terrific year wonder where Craig is as one for consecutive races. I do think there's going to be pace pressure in here. I think Jackson traveler and chateau both will be forwardly placed and won't make things easy for wonder where Craig is. I have tepid interest in majestic dunhill number two for George weaver, but I don't know. I think majestic dunhill needs the absolute best we've ever seen and can you expect that off of a ten month layoff if you go back to the grade three win at Belmont a year ago October, maybe that's good enough. The loss to leinster in an optional claimer at Belmont, September of 2020, maybe that's good enough, but we haven't seen this horse in forever and wonder where Craig in has won and won impressively at pimlico in July at Saratoga in August Laurel in September and at Belmont on Halloween. I think wonder where Craig is is going to be awfully tough to beat. I do too. I think he's too much for this field. And even though he's been going virtually wired a wire in all four of those wins, he shows races at the start of his career where he's winning from off the pace. And I think that's the key for him to on Sunday. Because chateau may just simply be faster than him and chateau's drawn to the outside with a very good rider and Ken rakar moves certainly capable of sending horses to the lead Jackson traveler. I think we'll be quick from the rail. I would not be shocked if Craig is lays third in the early going and just rolls by the two of them. Dave and I both agree. Number 5, wonder where Craig is, the one to beat to keep that win streak going in Sunday's graves and race 7 on the aqueduct card..

"The horses and give them money per start. So I'm going to go over there with my wife just ride her horses and just kind of waste three months. Little vacation kind of working vacation and we'll come back for the spring and Hawthorne. Have you ridden a Santana before? I did write there, probably like 15 years ago. Just for like Chicago we always have the winter off. Yeah, yeah. So I did go out there for like 6 weeks before and rode. And that was a very cool for me. So I'm going to go over there. I'm going to help her at the barn and we'll just write a few of our own in this, keep the horses fit. It won't be 8° over there. I can promise you that. Yes, we're trying to get out, get out of this cold weather because then when you come back and you'll be spring time, so. Awesome. Well, Chris, I really appreciate your time. Jackie Chris say joining us here on the program. Thanks so much. Thank you. Appreciate it. All right, we'll be right back after the short time out. It's a JSON B more racing podcast brought to you by twin spires. This is the Jason beam horse racing podcast, brought to you by twin spires. All right, big thanks to Chris Amy for joining us. I hope you guys enjoyed the conversation with Chris. Really appreciate his time. I was surprised he didn't remember the Donna gooseberries. I thought that was such a big deal. I actually texted it to him the link after we were done talking, and I was like, you gotta check this out with me. And this race is crazy. Go look it up on YouTube if you haven't watched it. It's one word do SKA, and it should be the first thing that pops up. Like, the video that's got all the views. It says horse racing oddly incredible stretch run. It's like a 537,000. You just can't believe, you know, we watch these races all the time, right? And are there crazy things that happen in horse traces? Of course, it's one of the beauties of the sport, right? There's a lot of things that can happen. And one thing I kind of do love to is like, you never know when it's going to happen. You never know when some writers going to rattle off 7 wins. You never know when someone's going to ride a winner while bolting to the outside gate or no one the lights are going to go off in the middle of a race. Like you just you just don't and that tonic couscous race like he just turning for home, there's just no way that horse wins and there's a moment of acceleration between the 8th and the 16th pole. That you just can't believe. And I thought it was really interesting, Chris talking about kind of the tiring late part. It almost. Almost made me go back and watch it again through that lens of maybe they were just there because if I remember right like the speed figure was like a got like a 60 something like it wasn't even crazy, right? Because you'd think a horse winds like that. But speed figures are based on time. And so obviously it's visually impressive, but in the reality, the time of the race wasn't that crazy. And Augustus, she went on to have a pretty decent career 25 start 6 wins, 5 seconds, three thirds, made 91,000. You know, running at turfway park and river downs Indiana grand, Hawthorne. So we were talking about what dare and the other day, he realized there's an owner like it ain't it ain't easy to just to get to the races is a challenge to win your maiden is not something every horse does. And to win your conditions is like, you know, that puts you in a decent Echelon of horses because it's just not that easy to do. But I really appreciate Chris joining us. Looking forward tomorrow to tomorrow. Sam Sherman is going to join us for a little horse player Thursday. Hopefully I'll have some horseplay stuff to talk about as well. I sometimes I gotta rely on sometimes I have a topic I just want to talk about because I saw something that I thought was interesting and watch a sequence and just be utterly fascinated how the pick four paid this and the pick 5 paid this. Why was it in the easy answer as well? A four to one one the first leg. It paid 5 times more and the takeouts lower. It's one less multi. Sometimes it's just that easy. Other times it's not. And I always think it's kind of in fact there was a trifecta when I was looking through the races at turf way. I don't know which day it would take me a little while to look at it. But it came in like 9 to one over ten to one over 42 to one and in my head and it was a big field and obviously the top couple of favorites are out. And in my head, I'm thinking that's going to pay monstrous and it paid like 5 80 or 5 90 for 50 cents. Which just seems staggeringly low. And I know I've beaten the drum about trifecta and pick three. We need the dollar minimum not the 50 cents. But because I have to think that's one of the reasons that it paid so low. Because it just seemed like I think the exact for two paid a $173, which even that seemed a little light. And so maybe it was just in the wind pool that one horse was over bet. I don't know. But I'm always fascinated to see those kind of things and kind of try to not only figure out why and how, but in the situations where it comes out good. How do you get there? I don't know. So hopefully we'll have some I'll talk to something like that. But if not, trust me, we talk with Sam for a while, but tournaments and horse playing and he kind of talks about how he's essentially just become a win better in his normal bets and why, so look forward to that as well. We will see you guys back tomorrow. I hope you guys all have a great Wednesday and we'll do it again tomorrow. Good night..

"Yeah, yeah, that's going to change. Ask me, I mean, he's had kind of a weird last few months as well. Obviously, the world documented struggles that Mercado Santana had a keenly and the stuff that went on with Aspen taking him off some horses. Yes. Maker is going to definitely bounce back. William mori had a sensational meat last year over the winter. He always brings good horses. I don't know if Jonathan Thomas is going to be bringing over as many as he did last year from what I heard. But when he shows up with a runner at turf where you absolutely have to pay attention he had a winner actually yesterday that he brought in from Belmont and then Wesley warden of course is going on. Wesley was kind of noticeably absent this week. It seemed like he was, which was interesting. Yeah, I expected the entry box to be full of horses from Wesley ward, but it wasn't, which was kind of surprising. Because he actually had a ton of horses, especially young horses last winter, where he has some calls and some horses that he's willing to let go at this point of the season. But when you look at the entries next week, I think he had like ten or 11 in the first so he definitely definitely coming out firing next week. I thought one of the the big performance is the weekend was tawny port who was a debut runner for Brad Cox. Was last or second last early on going to mile and one going away. It wasn't like it was a closer dominated race. I think second third and fourth were second third and fourth throughout. Yeah, that horse was an eye opener. I actually tweeted about it. If you go back and watch the race, it's extremely it's very visually impressive to say the least. And yes, I mean, it remains to be seen where the horse goes from here. It's always interesting when you get these horses that kind of break their maiden in the winter at turfway because it's kind of like an in between type of spot. You don't know where they're going to go. The horse earned the 62 buyer figure. I didn't see any of the other figures yet. Wow. It was basically yeah, it was basically like a last to first kind of performance. Drawing clear by over 6 lines. So the horse that ran second was for the name of eliminated the latch. Now, that was now a four time maiden with three runner up efforts and maybe you go well and beat much, but eliminated the last ran second to Barbara road to start back who came back to one second. I'd say hano twist in a state race. So that was actually a pretty good second place finisher that he dusted. And yeah, I definitely think that that horse has a bright future. There was another horse if you're looking for a potential bet back. That was actually claimed ran in the second race on Sunday by the name of Liz now. She was actually with Brett Cox as well and was claimed away. I think by Michelle level, she's had two starts. She dwelt at the start both times and last this past Sunday at turfway. She made a huge aggressive move on the turn, got within like a length of them at the top of the stretch. I then got a bit tired and got beat four lengths. But when Liz now shows up next time, hopefully they can figure the gate woes out because there's definitely some talent there. Boy, Michelle's had a hell of a year, too, between the top two horses. Can I also forget, is it forget to change horse? But just might the other one obviously been enjoying a fantastic season. Well, Darren, always good to hear from you, pal. He folks to find you on Twitter at the known, I shouldn't say at at the track 7. Just to make it more confusing, but in your expert selections, of course, turf way throughout the meat. Thanks again, pal. Yeah, I appreciate it always good to be on with you and hopefully everybody takes part in a really some good racing and throughout the entire meet the fields are always extremely large. And you do find value and you do get some large payouts as well. So hopefully everybody comes on board. Follow along, like you said on Twitch buyers with my selections and hopefully we can keep the ball rolling. Yes. Thursday Friday Saturday Sunday for the holiday meet at least is that continue all the way through the spring. Do you remember? No, it only goes through the holiday meal when we get to January they go to three days to one exception is towards the end of the meet when they have those big space races they had in the fourth day. But it'll be three days starting in January. Right, on Darren till Kelly, our guests will be right back after the short time out of the Jason being horse racing podcast brought to you by to inspires. This is the Jason beam horse racing podcast, brought to you by twin spires. All right, big thanks to Darren so Callie for joining us and talk a little turfway park. It was texting with Jimmy mcnerney the other night, the voice of turfway park. He told me, because they kind of are in a temporary stand there. I saw I hadn't seen photos of the grandstand at turf way because it's obviously being built. But I hadn't seen, you know, there's nobody on the racing side of things out there, right during the off season. So you just hadn't seen updates, but I think it was Mary Troy low. She posted some pictures and it is. It's coming right along. The facility there, they got beams and roof and all that kind of stuff. So it would be nice to see when the turf waves ready to go and it's more full capacity, but I was talking to Jimmy and he was obviously, you know, it's a really challenging place to call 'cause they're so low. And it's unique as Darren mentioned. It's unique as a race watcher too, right? Like it does, it is a little bit of a challenge right now. And of course, once the facilities built, it'll be a higher camera and kind of back to normal. But you've got to do what you got to do in the interim. But always enjoy the racing from turf away. I have a lot of fond memories from going over there before river downs would start. I would do my spring training over there. Seeing friends like Jeff riedel over there and Arnie Metz and Jack Valentine. Jack Valentine was the echo based guy in Kentucky for years or one of them. Him and cliff Gilliam's cliff cliff was the longtime Kentucky guy who the cliff's edge was named after. And I think little cliff as well. We're both named after cliff gilliams and cliff passed away a few years ago. Jack, I believe he's still alive Jack retired. Jack had this great bushy white mustache and he would eat spaghetti for dinner and his bushy white mustache would turn orange on the bottom. He used to crack me up because he was sit there and he would always call every track. Like he would end it with a Y, he'd be like, oh I'm bent a little okey today that was Oakland or a little turfy today. You know, he would always end the tracks with the Y, which I just thought was always funny. So lots of good turfway park memories. And I appreciate Darren's coming on for a joint and talking about it. Chris, Amy, going to join us tomorrow on the Thursday horseplay Thursday Sam Sherman will be here. Jury boy should be in on Friday and now we'll do the rest of things we do. I hope your guys have a better day today at least from a horse racing perspective. It was a dark day yesterday. It really was. It's hopefully tomorrow is a little brighter. Today's a little brighter and we work to be better. As people as an industry, each and every day, so want to end on a positive note. There we have. We'll see you guys back tomorrow..

"I mean, other times you can't get a distance you want to go like there's so much more that goes on other than just I'm putting this horse in a race I want. Yeah, I mean, that's exactly correct. I mean, there are certainly times where you just want to get a race into your horse because you enter the horse three times and the horse didn't fill or the horse was on the also eligible list and didn't draw into the field. You don't think about those things when we're handicapping races day to day. We're just assuming that every horse is in the race that that particular trainer and owner had been targeting and that's certainly not the case. And then beyond that, one of the things that we learned is the difference between horses at the claiming level that have conditions left and I wanted the two life not one is a three life versus once you get into open claiming company. It's another world. It is a giant leap once you come out of that non one is a three life category to go into open company and we found that out the hard way with a couple of our claims and we've kind of shied away from that now. I mean, we had a horse running the $20,000 cleaner at Churchill, where the winner ran an 82 buyer figure. And 82, and when you look at races, horses that are listed to claim for 40,000, they're showing 82 83 buyers. Who knows how good this horse can be? Well, he's good enough to win a 20 K at Churchill. It's pretty wild. And we've done a lot of focus on Phillies and mayors. Those seem to be a little bit easier in terms of navigating through some of the races and picking spots that are races that they can perform well in and meeting the right conditions and not having to run super fast to win and things of that. But yeah, it's opened my eyes up to things that I've never looked at before as a handicap. And it's fascinating to be honest with you. It's funny, you mentioned the open, you know, even lower level claims and obviously Grants Pass the number of downs where I'm at for a few months there. It's lower end racing in terms of the quality, but you get the open four and 5000 claimers there. Like those horses aren't gonna go to San Anita and win big races and stuff, but they could go to a bottom level race tend to end compete because they're just horses in general that I mean, their try hard types, I think. Yeah, a 100%. And I mean, we had a Philly stylish kitten who was I think the second horse we ever claimed. And she had won three out of four races for us. She got through not one of the two life, not one of the three life. Then she went to Churchill and she won a $20,000 non one is a three life claimer because she still fitted as a three year old Philly, but she only earned like a 62 buyer figure. You know, which goes back to what I'm talking about with looking for Phillies and mers with conditions left and we said, oh wow, she won a $20,000 to three life cleaner Churchill. Let's try, you know, not when there's one other than now, and lo and behold, we found out that the difference between the two is quite apparent. And she ended up being like a $7500 claim or when she got to open company. That's certainly does speak to your point. Those are hard knocking tough horses. I mean, you know, you claim a horse and say, hey, let's look for a horse for 5000 that we can have starter eligibility. Starter allowance eligibility for the next year and a half. Well, I got news for you. There are starter allowance $5000 races that are tougher than regular. And these are things that you don't realize until you until you start putting up some money and buying horses. And like I said, it's a very interesting dynamic for sure. I know you have, as you said, you know, turf was kind of become a big part of your handicapping regimen throughout the year and at some point it seemed like it got this reputation as kind of being almost pure chaos racing and I don't know if it's because of the synthetic or what. And I remember last year feeling like that was kind of getting put to bed. Now are there some prices that come in sharp? Prices come in a lot of tracks. But just watching the race throughout the week and I didn't watch all of them, but I probably watched half of them and looking through all of the results and stuff like, it seemed like for the most part, there was a lot of form full races and finishes. It seemed like you could win from different directions. I don't know. I'd like you to address that idea, I guess. Yeah, but they changed the surface of the track couple of years ago and they went to the subpoena surface. So the dynamic of the racing definitely did change a little bit there. To be honest with you, I think once they tore the grandstand down, I think the camera angle has a lot of people faked out too. I think people see that low camera angle and the horses look like they're all clumped together at the top of the stretch and there's much like chaos when it's really when it's really not. It's just a perspective from where you've seen the race from. Listen, it's like any other race track when you look at the numbers at the end of the meat, it tends to be very similar to what you see from a percent. Maybe the percentage of winning favorites are a little bit lower on synthetic surfaces and especially when you have horses that are coming in because when you're handicapping turf away park and it's true everywhere, but turkey park especially that you really need to see where the horses are coming from and have they performed at turfway park before because I'm not saying that horses from certain circuits can't win and it doesn't happen. But if you find a horse that has run well over the turf weight surface before and has been coming out of some of the bigger circuits maybe in dull form, the move back to turf can move them forward and you can get square prices with angles because some people just don't put the work in because it is a lot of work to track that kind of information. Yeah, you know, it's interesting because I always think of and describe winter meets a lot of times as convergence meats because there's so many more summer tracks that everybody that wants to keep racing. You know, they're all gonna get paired down from 40 tracks down to 12 or 13 or whatever it is in the wintertime. And so, you know, it makes sense that you're going to have horses coming from all sorts of different circuits and it also makes sense, at least you would think that the ones coming from the quote unquote higher end tracks are going to do better. What was that the case this weekend? I mean, you know, I saw some Brad Cox winners and, you know, top end connections like that scoring. I mean, it just makes sense to me. Yeah. So keen Lin does very well, obviously. I mean, it's no surprise. Now, last year they didn't came into Kentucky down at the start of the meet last year did exceptionally well..

"Here on the JSON beam horse racing podcast brought to you by twin spires and pleased to welcome our next guest who's a horseplayer in handicapper and part of the team here at twin spires where you can find his expert selections on tracks like turfway park, which just got underway this past week. Happy to welcome back Darren so Callie to the show. Darren, how are you? Good, Jason. I'm terrified park on the way this past weekend. One of my favorite times years that moves into the holiday season they have a great holiday meeting and the winter meet there the racing has been fantastic. The last couple of seasons there and certainly seems like the arrow at turfway is definitely headed in the right direction. I forgot to list a Staten Island real estate agent expert on your introduction. It doesn't take much doesn't take much to see large real estate prices on very small houses to become too much of an expert here. It's funny. I mean, I've been I've been teasing it buying a place for a little while. You know, my plan is to hopefully buy something down here, eventually, but it's easy to get lost in that stuff and then you realize that God if I had bought something ten or 15 years ago I'd be sitting sitting real pretty right now. I would be lying if I didn't tell you that I would say about once a month of real estate agent and maximize door. And gives me a number and says, I can get this for your house. And my response to them is always, that's great. Where am I going to live? Yeah. It's funny. That is kind of weird, right? But I guess at a certain point, maybe the money just becomes too much that you have to, but you got kids in school and all that kind of stuff too. Yeah, I mean, but the only thing is unless unless you're picking up and you're relocating to just the place where the real estate is more affordable and the cost of living is less safe. The next step up in the housing market, the numbers are on astronomical. So even if you did get a lot of money for your house, it's not like you have the money to just go to the next level up because it's gotten so out of control. Well, opening weekend of turfway in the books and you're involved in the turf, of course, is the horseplayer handicapper, but I want to talk about that, but also as an owner. So I want to start there. Did you have any horses running over the weekend? And if so, how'd it go? Yeah, we actually had 5 horses race at turf lay, which is kind of crazy to say. Over the first over the first four nights of racing considering where we were when we started a year and a half ago. But yeah, we actually had two winners. Higher authority who's a horse that needed some time off after a pretty long campaign. We gave him some time to rest up and heal up after pretty much not having a break for the first three years of his racing career. And then we got him back and he was training great and he just wasn't showing it in the races and it turned out there was just something with a couple of his blood levels that were a little bit low that happened sometimes and gave him a little bit more time and took care of that and now he's back to being the horse that he was supposed to be, which was great to see, but he got a win on Friday night there. We had a horse one third and an allowance on Thursday after a troubled trip. And then we had a horse wind yesterday that is probably the wildest claim that we've had. We claimed affiliate by the name of hosta hostile princess who at the time we claimed her had won three times and had lost by a combined 140 lengths and it was a stretch of a claim for $15,000, but we saw something in one of our races at Arlington, where she made this huge move on the far turn after coming out of the gate and literally going down to her putting her face on the ground. And we did a lot of research, talk to a few people, claimed her out of a race. She ran third that day. And since claiming her, she's actually won back to back races, including just this past Sunday where she won by about four and a half, 5 lengths and wire to wire fashion in a pretty quick time. So it's been a lot of fun. It is a humbling game. Sometimes things go really well. Sometimes they don't, but we seem to have found our niche in terms of what works for us. The angles that we take in the horses that we look for, what type of horses to stay away from. There's just a lot of things, Jason that you find out and you learn as an owner that actually probably help you as a handicapper that you don't really realize until you kind of get into this aspect of the game. And it's been a lot of fun. It's been exciting. And it's been a little bit profitable so far. So hopefully we can keep that going in the right direction. I've talked to a few friends that have made the same comment. They've they've gone from horseplay or two ownership. And a lot of it for them, they were saying is the condition book class and all that kind of stuff because they said they realized they realized that a lot of times, first of all, the ratio in is not the race you want to be in, and other times you're thinking two starts down the road. I mean, other times you can't get a distance you want to go like there's so much more that goes on other than just I'm putting this horse in a race I want. Yeah, I mean, that's exactly correct. I mean, there.
