"There is an argument that there's not a lot that you always nothing they can do about Aston Martin developing their way into a good position. But yeah, where do you see Alpine and McLaren making that? But having just said that, who could have predicted what Aston were going to do. So it is possible. And I think it's really interesting talking to some of the members of the team, particularly some of you guys down at Williams. They're actually inspired by seeing what Aston have done because it's like right. This is possible. It's a good story for Formula One and it's a good story for a lot of the teams. It's just ultimately, you know, it's the prize money thing, right? They're going to end up not doing as well because they haven't done good enough job. I'm going to get into that. Next, take a quick break and I'm going to dig into that a little bit more about what we should be expecting to see teams doing this year. Stick around back in a second. All right, let's talk about that. At the point, Alex just made teams being inspired by Aston Martin, revealed a car a year ago that was second slowest and by the middle of the season had a new development path and were on their way. And yet multiple times when I've asked people about Mercedes since the beginning of this year, I'm often told how Mercedes is going to dig themselves out of the Maya and people often say, well, in a cost cap era, that's really difficult. So those two things can't be true, Aston Martin did it in a cost cap era and didn't break the cost cap. So Mercedes should be able to do it. They've got a team of people that know how to win. Well, championships am I being a bit too simplistic? Only because astin made its major gain over a winter, like it did make significant gains in 2022, like I said, Phil, we're about to go after Melbourne, and I remember watching FP three with Andrew van leeuwen and Sebastian Vettel which has binned it because there was no down force and it was porpoising horrifically. And the car was just slow. They had made significant gains. They were up there a threat to the podium positions on merit in Austin and things like that. They would as well inconsistent. But then they had the new car coming behind. And that's really where they've made their game. So I take the point, I do take the point, but that is not quite the same comparison. Okay. Okay. So while the teams can do it, they can do an Aston over the next year or 18 months. It just refreshing to see this narrative of the cost cap has baked in this advantage for the big teams and the small teams will never be able to make a big step. I think that's been dispelled and I think that's really encouraging for Formula One. Let's look at I'm not giving a full rundown. Apologies listeners. A terrible podcast host. I should do that at the beginning of the podcast every week. You know Sergio Pérez won from Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso, who is back on the podium. George Russell Lewis Hamilton, science and leclerc in 6th and 7th, then ocon and gastly all going two by two and Kevin Magnussen in the house. Yuki tsunoda was just outside the point. He was inside the points, but he was 11th Nico hulkenberg 12th. Zhou guang yu in 13th Nick de vries in the AlphaTauri 14th Oscar piastre got past Logan sergeant finish 15th legan sergeant 16th, which I still think a good drive though, by the way, we get into that. And Lando Norris 17th Valtteri Bottas, classified 18th. Let me talk a little bit about McLaren, the Williams and that back end of the grade with AlphaTauri teams that are not where they should be or teams that are probably quite happy with how they're doing. McLaren couldn't pass. Well, okay, so Lando Norris in a McLaren couldn't pass a Williams, even with DRS. That actually panic stations at McLaren. Well, whether it's team orders and piastre got past him, he did get past Logan sergeant. Eventually. But Kev, this is, this is a difficult Monday morning to wake up to at McLaren, isn't it? Yeah, but they were kind of expecting weren't they? We talked about this after Bahrain that they were quite pleased because they thought it was going to be even worse than it was. And they got a load of updates coming. So I think they'll be encouraged by piastres performance in qualifying. I think we now can see that he is for whatever reason to step up from Ricardo in the second car. Obviously Landau had a little mistake in qualifying, which had big consequences, so he was kind of out of it from there. I was not like carrying a problem. Why did they switch the cars around? If Lando's the number one. Can I just jump in very, very quickly? It wasn't a little mistake, Kev. You didn't beat in the car. But it was a poor mistake. It was important. A little fire, a little size mistake, but it was bad from land. I think, and I know he reads my driver ratings. He should be very lucky that he's not being rated on qualifying this season now. Okay, so I think panic stations at McLaren more so than I ever ever have done based on today's you run. I mean, by which I mean the reason why not the 80s. Early 90s. I don't think there was many panic stations during that era. But yeah, I'm still not yet. Let's get to some more normal tracks. I don't think it's going to be quite as terrible as it looks at the moment. Don't forget they both had incidents on the first lap. They weren't down the back on Lando's end yet because you hit the wall and then you had to come in and get his nose changed and pastry was just, was he unlucky? I think it was just one of those unfortunate things that at that corner is possible to get a little bit squeezed and he just did with the Alpine. So yeah, unfortunate more at the start there for McLaren than any sort of shock reason for them being back there.

"In Brazil, when Logan sergeant when his car moving on Stewart coddling, question for you, who said this about Fernando Alonso? We won so many things and that will be part of our history. Not only the Renault group history, but also Fernando history. Was that optimal zap now? It was not art Mars app now actually. Laurent Valentino Rossi. It's a special type of person to refer to something as grandiose as a Fernando legacy in history. Is it by any chance Fernando himself? It is Fernando himself. In the third person third person when his exit to Aston Martin was announced, that is correct. Language warning coming up for this question, Alex, it is to you. Who was this quote attributed to, but he didn't actually say it and you'll see what I mean. Last year, for two points, I would have the whole paddock. A Steiner, isn't it? Well, yes, and no, it was attributed to Steiner. Talking to a friend of the show Chris medland on SiriusXM. He later clarified, he said hugged. I'll play the audio quickly, say that picks it up so you can judge for yourselves. It's already said, why don't you always want maximum, but then if you think about it, you can not be too Grady. You know, last year for two points, I mean, I would fuck the whole product. Because great hilarity, the next day, press conference pointed out medicine was like, oh, you, you, yes, no, I said hugged, I said hugs and was very, very clear about what he meant about harsh success. This is a peculiar accent. It has to be said. It is, it is. And that's peculiar Italian accent. Q to you now. Ferrari has been doing strange things. That was another strange thing. Good for a controversial quote. Is it the FIA president Muhammad Ben Solomon? It was not the FIA president. Cod is, do you want to try and steal this? Was it Charles Leclerc? It was not Charles Leclerc note, Alex final chance. Christian Horner? Nope, that was Fernando Alonso about the decisions pit, Charlotte Flair for the fastest lap point at spa, when the clerk didn't get the fastest lap and got a 5 second penalty for pit lane infringement. Well, he's not wrong. Penultimate question of the quiz over to you, who said this. Behind those gates are some of the most beautiful cars on earth were created. And I'm about to enter them. Hashtag blessed. Was it someone mocking Lewis Hamilton? No. No, was it Lewis Hamilton himself? It was not Lewis Hamilton himself. Alex, do you know? Was it dieter rankin? It was a friend of the show, dieter rankin. He was excited on Twitter about his visit to the pininfarina factory in Italy. And finally, in this quiz, Alex, you get the last question of all who said this. The first place you should go is the airport toilet. It's the cleanest airport toilets you will ever see. You feel the temperature, the nice warm toilet, you're going to have a nice welcome. Sebastian Vettel no. I'm going to say Jenson Button. It was Yuki tsunoda, who was asked for his recommendations about when you arrive in Japan and what you should do first, apparently use the airport toilet. So there you go. It's been a good year. It's been a good year for Formula One, some good quotes. Yeah, thank you boys for a very fun year. I must say traveling the world and our various shenanigans and I look forward to doing it all again next season. Luke, I'm sure the listeners will want to know what your favorite memory was. Was it leclerc clarifying what the word stiffer meant? My highlight of the year, I think probably in Abu Dhabi during the track run with Sebastian vet, I think that was a really cool thing for us to be part of and a really lovely way for say goodbye and get the whole palette together because we don't really do that much in a year like everyone kind of like the media sticks themselves and the teams and whatever. So yeah, that was very cool moment I must say and yeah, again you can read all about it in the old spot plus feature in the magazine when we talk about our highlights of the year. But yeah, thank you for asking you. It's been a good year though. Really good fun. Anyway, final results for the all sport Christmas quiz. Thank you guys. In third place is Stuart coddling with a grand total of 6 points. Second place. Is Matthew with 13 points and our runaway winner with 19 and a half points is Alex caloris Alex congratulations. Thank you very much, Lee. Thank you very much. Obviously, he's for ID sound awful. I'm going to say thank you very much all three of you for a wonderful year traveling the world and covering Formula One. It's ridiculous that we get to do this for a living, but we do and we very much enjoy it. But what do I win? What's my prize? Go and find something for them. What can I find in the office? I've got two bottles of Heineken, the Heineken kindly sent to the three of us. You've got two yeah, I've already got mine. I'll happily add double now. And Q's not going to the office this week, so I'll have his as well, I think. There we go. Absolutely. I'm sorry to the listeners are podcast seems to have turned out like was it Valencia 2011 where the order got settled immediately and no one really swapped position thereafter. Yeah, I failed to get my quiz DRS flap open. You've ruined it by talking about Formula One. Anyway, thank you guys, and thank you to everyone at home for listening along. We hope you enjoyed our Christmas quiz and thank you for all of your reads, your tweets, your comments, everything this season and following our coverage. And yeah, we look forward to seeing you again in 2023.

"The Rain, with no visibility with aquaplaning, even if you're doing 40 kilometers an hour in a Formula One car. You can complain. Arguably the slower you go, the cold your tires get, and there's no doubt there's no aero, right? So day in, day out. Formula One fans that were watching TV on the day in spa in F two and to on Hubert was T bone to the top of a rouge. That is a dark day in motor sport. When at this circuit, 8 years ago this weekend, you'll Bianchi, followed Adrian sutil into an accident, and they'd put a tractor on track to rescue one car when his car went underneath that, and he died of head injuries. We don't talk about day in day out. We don't talk about Ed and Senna and Roland ratzenberger dying at the same weekend because that would be weird if we talked about it every weekend. But particularly those that have washed a Grand Prix, where you turn it off, and it's a sporting event, and you realize someone's lost their life. At horrible. And it sticks with you. And today they put a tractor on a race course where cars are going around at speed in the wet, with no visibility. And with aquaplaning. And we were lucky not to have exactly the same accident. Giuliani's father did an Instagram post earlier just with his disgust at seeing that. And all the drivers were disgusted and all the teams were discussed. Everyone in the Formula One was discussed. Apart from the FIA, who seemed to be more concerned that the drivers were going too quick, blamed everyone but themselves, and then afterwards said will we will investigate it because we investigate all things and also because the drivers seem brought this to our attention. Almost like they're reluctantly. What do you think with the FIA? Who are the ones that are the judge jury and executioner? Will they find themselves guilty? A bit like the Massey disaster at the end of last year? No. I'll shut up now and hand over to Luke. What did you make of today? It's the kind of thing that to quote Daniel Ricciardo after Suzuka 2014 was a big no no. They never wanted to see a tractor on the circuit again recovering a car like that, especially not in wet conditions, especially not when cars are aquaplaning and things like that. It's something that, yeah, it's happened. It happens every now and then it races. I think we saw it Monza, for example, when Daniel Ricciardo's car was being recovered that a crane had to cross the circuit and was then moving his car out of the way and even then some found saying, oh, that's quite unsettling because and that's with the cars going past behind the safety car, a slow speed and dry conditions. In the wet though, and this is so many of the drivers raised. It literally, it's the choice of do I set either directly in this guy's wheel track, so the car in front of me, and I can't see a thing. Or do I think, okay, I better sort of dip out a little bit and move to one side so I can get a bit of visibility, know where I'm going. You do that and there's a stationary vehicle there and you don't say it, then that's game over, which is it's really, really terrifying and unsettling that these guys, yeah, they risk their lives week in week out. To do what they love and for this amazing sport to be, what it is, and things like this need to be clamped down on. They need to be, it shouldn't have happened. It shouldn't have happened. It's as simple as that. And it's the fact that the FI do need to go through their processes and look at sort of what happened, like how on earth was that cool given the power for a recovery vehicle to be sent out onto the track and for Marshals to be on the track that only lies with the race director. So how was that decision taken? Why did Obama freighter say yep, get that vehicle out and go for it? And to also listen to the drives and understand this. And it's something that George Russell said after the race, they spoke about on Friday in the driver's reefing. They spoke about cranes on track vehicles on track when Yuki tsunoda's car was here covered in Singapore. I think it was a similar kind of thing. And again, they raised this as, oh, okay, we don't really like that. Again, that was in damp greasy conditions. Very easy to make a mistake. And I think that I think there's something that, yeah, we just need some answers on because it's unsettling. And I think the FIA's initial statement, the kind of just said, oh, there's a sort of the facts in terms of what happened was a bit it didn't really add anything, and it didn't sort of say like we're aware we're looking at what happened. The investigation into gastly speeding is really a separate issue. To be honest, and it's something that I think, again, you could talk about at length, but the fact is that gasly he was clearly very shocked very upset rightly so about the near miss that he had. And just because he was speeding behind the safety car. Sorry, just because he was speeding under a red flag as judged by the stewards after passing that crash site. Does not mean that there's any justification, it doesn't, it shouldn't be at all that he sort of blamed for anything that happened there, whatever. All of those drivers went past that crash site all in the similar conditions. Gasly at a quicker speed because he was on his own, obviously. So yeah, I just hope we get some answers. I really do, because I think it's something that we on our weekends as well to be back at Suzuka. It's left a lot of discomfort with a lot of people. I think everyone who watched that race fans, teams, drivers, they want some real answers because the FIA inputs so much on its commitment to road safety and safety and motor sport and stuff. And Formula One as you said Martin has come such an incredibly long way and it's really, really something they should be very proud of. But also when things like this happen, it needs

"Now we know highly tipped this week we think the announcement will come that he'll be partnering Yuki tsunoda at AlphaTauri with a deal for gasly to go to Alpine. What were those in the initial rumors that swirled after his incredible performance? This is a situation where Williams wants him. You'd want to get a contract in front of him pretty quickly, give him a nice two year deal so that he's not casting his net about for a couple of years and there's that security as well. If Alpine makes the offer, you know, maybe he goes there but what are they going to offer are they going to offer a one year deal and then bring doing in for 2024? Are they going to make the same mistake with doing that they do with piastre, there's lots of different variables here. They haven't covered themselves in glory with the contract negotiations and whatever it was terms of heads or whatever that agreement was that wasn't signed on piastres. So Alpine aren't exactly I would say flavor of the month, perhaps with the driving community because they haven't treated drivers lately, perhaps best. Whilst the Williams was fast at Monza, is it fair to say that perhaps Alpine would be the quicker car? As a manager, you'd want to play both sides a little bit to get the best deal for your driver. Yes, you would. You'd be leaning on our pen a little bit, make sure that it's a two year deal that's well paid. And then you get Nick that drive. If it's a one year deal, you get on the Williams drive for more than that. That's the game I would play because it would suit me better that he was in a drive for a couple of years than just for one. And as time went on after the race, then the AlphaTauri conversation started with Pierre gasly being suggested as going to Alpine. Of course, a big French OEM already have a French man in ocon driving for them, could have gasly there as well. The ultimate French team. And then Red Bull and Christian Horner started playing the politics and of course that's what they're very good at and saying, well, we're not going to let him go without either some, you know, compensation and a half decent driver to put inside at AlphaTauri team and of course Nick de vries would be more than a half decent driver to put in that team alongside Yuki tsunoda next year. So we are just waiting for the announcement. We think this week we think at least before. Suzuka this weekend. That's all to come. That's also come, but we can't let you go without this brilliant fact of him scoring points on his debut. That whilst it's a very rare thing to do to score points on your F one debut. Not only has it been done plenty of times before, but it's actually becoming more common. Who are some of those names in the past that you can run through that have scored points on their first outing? Well, I can think of two names that did it at Williams, which de vries in very exalted company because Nico Rosberg did it in 2006 in Bahrain and he got the fastest lap, I believe in that race as well. That 2006 car wasn't particularly good, but it was very quick at Bahrain. And Jacques Villeneuve did it ten years before Nico Rosberg did it with second place at the Australian Grand Prix. The race is a formula E teammate stoffel van Doorn has done it. Deputizing for an injured Fernando Alonso at Bahrain in 2016 at McLaren got a point. Carlos Sanchez junior has done it. Melbourne 2015 and Max Verstappen would have scored in that race. Had he not had a failure. Some of it is a little bit variable. There is Kimi Räikkönen in 2001 who assumes 6th when Olivier panis was sent back to 7th place for passing under yellow flags and Sebastian Vettel's on it in 2007. Guano did it this year with Alfa Romeo Bahrain. Yuki tsunoda did it last year in 2021 with ALF tauri, which led Ross Braun's declare him the most exciting rookie that he'd seen in many, many years. I think trajectories dropped off a little bit since then. But there's so many names to have scored points in the debut, I believe Alain Prost has, Sebastian Bourdais, four time champ car winner, also scored points on his debut despite having a disappointing Formula One career. Lots of lots of names, some truly exalted company that de vries joins and maybe some lesser drivers as well. Locked in, but yeah, it's such a smorgasbord of recognized drivers from across, not just F one, but different disciplines who have come into F one, score points on their debut, maybe it works out for them long term, maybe it didn't, but it's a truly exciting list of drivers there. Absolutely. And especially those names pre 2010 when it was ten down to 8th or ten points out to one point rather from first to 8th in the early noughties and then the sort of 90s point structure. And you have to finish the top 6 to even score points. And that is so really, really impressive for those names you mentioned like an frost and others in there. Now, I was talking to our chief editor Kevin Turner. And he gave me a name that he says, I bet JBL doesn't mention this name and I think it's really unfair of him because this person didn't score points on their debut and yet they did score points on their debut. This person is a British racing driver that did a point scoring finish when they appeared in Formula One in 1984, but also didn't score points. Does any of that sound too cryptic to even have a stab at who Kev was talking about? Very, very cryptic. It's really unfair of him to raise this one because it's like in 84. Man, it's debut 84, British racing driver scored points on his debut, but also didn't score points on his debut. Let me give you the answer because I'm like, Kev, this is too unfair because this is like, it's just a gotcha. Martin Brundle came into Formula One with tyrrell in 1984. Of course. And finished 5th in his first race in Brazil, he also scored a second place in Detroit, but that year, tyrrell were later disqualified from the world championship because of a technical infringement and Martin Brundle would lose all of his points and therefore not officially according to the record books a point scorer on his debut even though he was, and I said, Kev, that is a mean one. Trip up JBL. But I don't know. It's pretty obscure. But I'm annoyed I didn't get that. I'm really annoyed. I had no idea. When he was telling me, I'm like, I would never get civilian years. But you guys are the experts. So there you go. Maybe next time you're in the paddock and you see Martin Brundle, and we're talking about points on debut. Maybe don't remind him of that because Formula One drivers are notoriously spiky when being reminded of bad things. But there we go. Thank you very much for joining us on the podcast today. JBL, we're really appreciate it as good fun one. Really fun podcast to do today. Thank you for listening and we'll catch you on the next one.

"Was in car sea. He was very, very highly rated and very highly sought after and he became a McLaren junior. It was kind of Ron Dennis protege back around sort of like 2012, 2013 when he was in formula Renault Euro cup for fans of Formula One around then. If you remember the McLaren tune series, the CGI sort of little comedy series with Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton in it. He made a starring role on a couple of occasions when he was around 16 or 17 years old. We spoke about that earlier this year actually. Just in case that you have a fancy is doing voice acting again. I think he quite enjoyed the experience. But he was a Euro cup champion in 2014. Moved up to Formula One O 3.5 with dams and it's a really big step between those two series. I know that two and 3.5, it doesn't seem like a big step, but it kind of was at the time. But he still finished third overall. Kind of took the backwards step to GP three. Had Charles Leclerc and Alex Albon in his team, but I don't think he particularly got on with that with that car. I think it was a bit difficult for him to reconcile with the backward step. But then moved up to F two in 2017. Did a sort of a weird campaign where he was with rap acts for the first half of the season and rap acts was they'd won the championship 2010 with pastel Maldonado but by then it was their last year in F two and they didn't have the resources or the money that some of the teams like prema or ART or dams had. So we did half the season with them and then half the season with racing engineering, who was also on the way out at that point. But you had a good season, you won the sprint race at Monaco, shared a good account of himself. But then he was very much in championship contention in 2018, which was the year that I was there. He was part of that pack with George Russell, Lando Norris, Alex Albon, de vries finished fourth in that year's championship, but he was every bit as quick as them. Really, really good in changeable conditions. The thing that I would kind of notice back then was that he was really, really engineers and knew exactly what he wanted behind the car. And like 90% of the time he was doing really, really good things. There's just that little 10% sort of slight bit of brain fade or slight bit of over aggression that would cause some trouble. So I think that ultimately contrived against him. So he did need a third year and I know it's not very fashionable amongst those that making the decisions in F one of which drivers they want to bring through. I think that's the same situation at Felipe drugovich is kind of facing now, having won it in his third year, but Reese did win 2019. It wasn't a particularly strong field. But I think at that point, as I said earlier, the chances of F one kind of dried up. So that brought him to formula E with Mercedes. He lost his McLaren backing at that point, Mercedes brought him in. Formula E program kind of a reserve program as well alongside fellow McLaren karst off a vandal at Mercedes. The team has just been really, really, as dominant as it's possible to be in formula E let's say. 2020 21, that was a really strange season where I think the top 16 to the top 18 by the time they got to Berlin could have theoretically won the championship. And it might sound a bit fluke, but de Reese was at the top at the front all season. He wasn't as consistent, let's say, as some of the others, but he got the wins where he needed to. And so he kind of got that over the line in a very, very strange and inconsistency. This year has not been quite as good. Stoffel vandoorne has been the stronger McLaren Mercedes driver. It will be McLaren next year. And one that I thought with this relentless consistency that de vries just couldn't seem to get his hands on, struggling with brake issues earlier this year. A few incidents of perhaps being a little bit over aggressive and trying to defend when he didn't need to defend. There have been a number of spats as such. But a few collisions between him and Lucas de grasse this season and him and Andre Lotterer this season and they're probably the three most aggressive drivers on the grid so when they get together it is fireworks. So it's not been a particularly great year in formula E and he did just miss out on the top ten of the official autosport formula E rankings as a coin flip between him and Nick Cassidy. But even though they're sort of been a few moments where he's had difficult years, it has been a sort of steady upward trend and upward progression. You know, it might not be the most fashionable junior career, but he's won when he's needed to, you know, from personal perspective, I think he kind of has proven himself over the years and I think Formula One's kind of slept on him a little bit. So to bring this full circle, tell us about what happened in the immediate aftermath of that point's finish in Monza. He was immediately tipped to join Williams, Latifi leaving, and partnering Alex Albon there. Also, tip to join Alpine because they're doing a pretty decent job of letting half decent drivers slip through their fingers. And now we know highly tipped this week we think the announcement will come that he'll be partnering Yuki tsunoda at AlphaTauri with a deal for gasly to go to Alpine.

"Certainly has been. This is your second year with auto sport at your first on the F two and F three beats. How's it been? Yeah, it's been absolutely fantastic. You know, moving up from covering F three and W series last year to covering F two and F three this year has been fantastic. It's been great to see some of the really stand out young talent coming through the ranks. Got to a few races, seen some drama as F three always has, but this year has been particularly chaotic, and seen some absolutely incredible racing, you know, there's been some really standout races considering the age of some of these drivers and, you know, the amount that amount of time they've been racing, some of it has been absolutely phenomenal. It's been a pleasure. It's been brilliant. We've had some really good inside. It had some really good racing and had some really good little nuggets of goss from the drivers. So it's been great. Now at the racing is so good. And it is a spec series. And I'm sure lots of our listeners do know, but for anyone who isn't fully up to speed, F two and F three, they are spec series, just remind us about the chassis they use, things like the engine, some of the key technical regulations, because again, if you're not super into it at the moment and you're maybe going to cover maybe a Formula One fan wants to watch a bit more of it next year. They do look like little Formula One cars. What are the similarities? What are the differences? It's quite a busy grid 30 F three cars on the grid, which contributes to some exciting racing. It's a dallara chassis, mecha chrome engine. They do look similar, so they've got the halo. They run Pirelli rubber, but there's only one compound. So they don't have pit stops during either the feature race or the sprint race. They just use the one compound. And they have DRS. They're quite similar in a lot of ways to F one cars. They're just, you know, not as powerful. They have run on 9 F one weekends this year. Alongside F two, which had 14 rounds. And it's the kind of first step on that on that three tier pyramid towards F one. So a lot of the drivers have stepped up from championships like formula regional European or GB three, and they're making that next big step up to F one into the, you know, into the F one world at the F one weekend, different paddock, but next to the F one paddock. So for these drivers coming up, this is their first big shot to impress F one teams and F two teams as well for when they make that next step up, but it is a big deal and it's really a lot of exciting racing that people should get more on board with, I think. Totally, totally. A formula three, if you include predecessors, names like GP three or Euro F three over the years. And of course, these days, FA formula three is fully in support of Formula One. It races at those rounds, but over the years, there's been some really big names. You look at the F one paddock and you look at where they've come from and almost every driver has come from GP €3 F three. What is now FIA F three. So the likes of Charles Leclerc, George Russell, they both won F three in their rookie season. And then moved up to F two and did the same. And then moved up to F one, but you've got the likes of Oscar PRC who also did the same as Leclair and Russell. You've got Bottas. You've got tsunoda, Esteban ocon, Carlos Sainz, all these drivers have started in F three or the equivalent on that journey to the F one paddock. So it's the sort of place where you're going to see the drivers who are in a few years will be F one drivers or will hope to be F one drivers. So Viktor Martin's newly crowned champion. He's now going to be moving up to F two. The champion can't stay in the series. They have to move on. So Viktor Martins will be looking to make his move up to F two and the next step from that if he can get a seat is F one. So F three is the place to look if you want to know who's going to be in F one and a few years. This is where you need to keep an eye on. And just look at the all the news lately around Colton Herta, someone who hasn't done that typical journey that other F one drivers have and a fantastic driver and we start to talk about super licenses and things like that. So just to get really hard for drivers that do have their sites set on F one that want to do it a slightly different way. Not impossible, absolutely not possible. And of course, next week, we will do if you're listening to this thinking, oh, just F three, yes, no Meghan will do an F two show next week for us on the podcast just so you know, and I'm sure we'll get into then about the idea of leaving championships as champion, but what if there is nowhere to go in Formula One next? What do you do and we'll take a look at some of those circumstances. So yeah, you mentioned 9 rounds then in 2022, four minus three is all wrapped up now. Where did we go racing? In formula three this year. So the kit season kicked off in Bahrain at the same time as the F one season. So they started in Bahrain, there are two races every weekend. There's a sprint race on Saturday and feature race on Sunday. Then there was a bit of a gap at three went to imola, and then it was Barcelona.

"He's going to have his own subscription service for $12. You say that about Hamilton, but I was more in the case of I was just more excited for George Russell to. Again, not have lack of winning abilities responded yet again because arguably this could have been another race where could have finally scored his first goal in his Formula One career. So if we use AFL pilot launch, it's final time. If we use a valve pilot, George Russell is this is what you need to do when you ever do an appearance on SEN Markle, trust me, because otherwise you come on, you talk about Formula One, you get accused of being too intellectual, so you can say George Russell. He's Korea, that's thanks to AI. No goals and 7 behind back to you. Okay, but in mind, I will keep it in mind. Yeah, it is interesting. I almost wonder be Mercedes first win this season. If it's going to happen, because I admittedly last week, I think I said I didn't think it was going to happen. And this week, they almost won it. So I guess don't take anything I say seriously. But if they couldn't win it this week, their most competitive race of the year, a race in which they were comfortably the second quickest car in the race. Then when will they win it? Because we don't have any other, I mean, Brazil will be a similar issue track and you know Hamilton is Brazilian now, so I guess that will technically home victory for him. I don't know, they're not so many others. Yeah, we've got Monza next weekend of which Daniel Ricciardo has to win that one. Actually, in terms of stocks down, my goodness. He goodness. 37 seconds off. Goodness gracious way. When you're only above Nicholas Latifi, it's pricey. Looking in that it's very gray. It is very aggressive. It's very ugly. The nonetheless. Yeah, well, as long as Carlos scientist still being screwed over by some weed walker that is going on. Someone has a voodoo doll. Zack brand must have some kind of pain sort of voodoo system going on. He would though, I think, would be if there's anyone in the paddock other than Helmut baker obviously. I think it would be Zach, wouldn't it? I feel like because he likes collecting things, I think. And it just feels like something that would be in his Wheelhouse. Yeah. So on the Discord or mailbox of neutrals, which one person personnel member would you accuse of having weed voodoo shit unusual? Yes. Who's a witch? Unusual. In the end, look, Max Verstappen won because strategies didn't work in Mercedes favor. It was going to be a good strategy. It looked like it was going to be a good race. We thought we were going to get the tension we deserve. Then we had a virtual safety car and a safety car. Let's talk about that virtual safety car because it was Yuki tsunoda. And already, in fact, immediately afterwards, many accusations of that fabled button that Helmut Marco carries around with him at all times, telling AlphaTauri to do something. That was absolutely in play because, well, it definitely benefited max. I would love it to be proven correct because it's so outlandish that it's any reasonable person that doesn't work for Sky Sports if one would say that's not a thing. Yet if it is, then it's been I would actually turn around and say, that's genius. That is, and he's remarkable collusion. But he's not happening because you keep is look, it's not on the right side of the family, but you also know that he's almost I would say unhinged. Because he has a wife of just doing things and saying things. He has no filter. And I really, it is, it's why he's the people's driver because he just, he's not like he's not like, oh, he's saying what we're all thinking, you know those kind of people. It's not like that. No, it's not like that, but he just has an amazing ability to the whole situation was quite frankly bizarre. Obviously, with the whole time, I think. But to be honest, it's hard to not sympathize for at least I could sympathize where he's coming from. Once you get in your head that your car hasn't been fitted on properly. So it's like, okay, I got to get out of the car so I'm going to start to get out and then it's like, oh no, it's actually fine. Keep driving. And then you belt to loose and what have you. You just don't feel, what's the point? Because now you're paranoid about the tire on the back not being secure and you're now your belt to lose. So it's not seated comfortably. In the car making it an unpleasant experience. And for what? So I don't blame him and I don't buy this. Ridiculous conspiracy theory as jokingly as I hope it was said. I don't think there was any collusion because quite Frank quite frankly, I don't think you should know that I would be capable of actually following the procedure to the letter. Because he would find a different he would rather find a way of doing it completely wrong or telling them to jf one and not obliging, which I admire and I respect. I don't think, yeah, I don't think you know would let that fly. I don't think he would do it. So the summary is in all capitals, no collusion, as one man would say. And good honor. But that's what I decided the race. We got a safety car afterwards for yet another Valtteri Bottas failure, which just seems to happen every week now. Every week I feel like the only thing that happens to Valtteri Bottas, easy ways of funny hat on Thursday and then he retires from the race on Sunday. He needs to break that cycle. Stocks say his stocks are going down as cute as those fist bumping gifts are. He's got a he's got a lift because he's got vultures like Daniel Ricciardo. It's like a news cycle. We need some other drivers to have a real shit of a time. Like, yes, I need to get him. How bad are you going with? Nico hulkenberg is coming. Come on, wait. Come on, Nicholas and safety needs to Nicholas Latifi needs to do the right thing and he actually needs to do a race where he actually drives the track the wrong way on purpose. He needs to deflect. I need to protect any regatta, so therefore forget Yuki tsunoda collusion. He's some form of James collusion. I need some drivers to really go wrong. And the goal is a massive smokescreen. And Mike then we gotta look brilliant again.

"Technically he drops down to 13th. Hindsight and if you can rewind time says that Paul Pierre gasly, who finished 11th in Q two, therefore he was the one to miss out on the Q three spot. He should have been in Q three in Paris should have been out in Q two finishing 13th, but they didn't have the information. They didn't have it everything sorted to hand at that point in time, and that's why we're talking hours after qualifying about Perez dropping broken basically half a grid spot and everyone in that gap going up a space. It does sound confusing. It does sound sort of you could say peak F one over complicating it, but there is a sort of a reason behind it in terms of where they were looking for the track limits and unfortunately an area that they weren't looking at for that instant sort of lap time deletion whilst qualifying is going on is where Perez fell foul. So yes, it's one of those unfortunate ones. I wouldn't say I'm sort of defending the rule makers or how they came to their decision, but they sort of didn't have the full facts at the time, therefore had to do it after qualifying, and that's why we're in this situation. But yeah, as you say, the bottom line is Perez will start the sprint, so not the full grand Prius. I know that the sprint race from 13th and everyone in between that gap goes up a spot. But of course, like you say, if he gains paces in the sprint race, he can end up back and forth. For the Grand Prix, which would be the massive irony if something like that would happen, which isn't too far off the world to possibility, given the pace he's got in that car. Yeah, and the car looks great. I have the FIA bulletin here. Thank you for sending that on. It says the team made the point that they took both risk and expended resources to compete in Q three. The stewards accept this point, however, in assessing a penalty after a recession, this is no different than any other situation. The usual penalty in deleting the lap time concerned and the stewards order the same penalty. Here, however, as a consequence, the driver would not have proceeded into Q three and therefore, in fairness to the other competitors, the stewards order that all lap times for Q three for the driver are also deleted. So that is their in their own words, their logic. We've seen this over the years in Formula One, you get that time between Q one and Q two or Q two Q three. They have a look at it. And if they can't identify it, then hard luck, right? Over the years, it's been like, well, that's obviously not fair. That person was blocked or impeded. And if it's not resolved in that gap, and that driver isn't given the penalty and then they can test that session, we've seen it time and time again, you just get lucky. Or you get unlucky in Formula One, whereas this is one of the first times I can remember where they've gone back and gone. No, no, no. We are inventing our own time machine to put things how we think they should be. Which I agree with you. Is P F one, like it's just, it's a little bit weird. And it doesn't do a huge amount for the fans. When they turn on their TV on Saturday. The fans that are watching on television, the fans that were there at the track. Would have gone, yeah, home or whatever, believing that Perez was fourth. Now, okay, Perez being in fourth is not exactly a headline factor. But it's very easy and very simple to say the poll sitter could have been in this situation. Whoever that may have been. And that just changes the whole story when it's quite easily to have quite easy to avoid. And that's the sort of problem that they keep finding themselves in. But on the other hand, rules are rules and they did apply them as accurately as they could. Okay. George Russell lines up forth in the Mercedes because he put in a good time before shunting, followed by Esteban ocon in the first of the alpines and a brilliant result for the two Haas drivers lining up now in 6th and 7th, doing some very quick mental arithmetic. On my notes that I've written. And Magnussen pipping Schumacher, but that's stunning we'll talk about in a minute. Fernando Alonso, second Alpine in 8th, followed by Lewis Hamilton, who was bottom of Q three, get bumped up, and Pierre gasly is in tenth, followed by Alban Bottas, Perez in 13th. Tsunoda and Lando, who at one point was running 8th early on in qualifying and had a shocker. Along with teammate Ricardo in 16th, stroll, Joe Latifi, Vettel lines up last, again, track limits catching out Sebastian Vettel. Where should we go next? Let's talk about the Mercedes crashes, two separate incidents, wiping out Russell and Hamilton, like I say Russell had a good time on the board, so starting up on the second row, which is brilliant. We should talk about, well, first of all, Hamilton brought out the red flags, about 5 and a half minutes to go. He ran into the barrier at turn 7. Talk us through this. Yeah, so, a very uncharacteristic error you could say from how it's and he did say sort of after qualifying, he partly held his hands up, but also wasn't really sure what happened. He lost the rear of the car going through this high speed corner and it is one of those where as soon as you lose it, well, you're on a one way ticket to hit hit in the barriers and I remember not so many years ago, Bottas did it in a Mercedes in a very similar situation. So it's not impossible to do. Many will do it after and since. But yeah, I think just it would be interesting to see what the Mercedes Benz Dave and how they analyze their qualifying because naturally their drivers will push harder in Q three. They seem to believe in and to be fair the pace in practice did show it that if they completed their lamps and didn't sort of have the issues that they came into a Q three, they would have been there or there about knocking on the door of the top three. And I think that's basically what they were going for the car is inherently a bit twitchy a bit nervous and we've seen this whether it's the porpoise singing the corners that unsettle the drivers or if it was just a gust of wind catching the car and putting them out. But they were pushing and on the limit. As you would expect in Q three because it will qualify because that's the time you do it of all the entire weekend. But they seem to find that edge where when you go over it, well, that's the consequence of it. Whereas I think you could say because they have the faster package, they have to take air versus a slightly less risk in terms of if you were the rebel or the Ferrari drivers. So a combination of errors and issues, I think, have hit both Mercedes drivers and it's very rare to see that, to be honest, but that was it. Similar sorts of crashes, similar sorts of situations for both Hamilton and Russell like you say, if anything Russell got slightly lucky, you could say, because as you say, he got a lap time in that was good enough for 5th anyway, and he was basically going on his final run in Q three. And with Paris's penalty, it's put him forth.

"His sort of pace it looks sustained. I don't have the data that you do. But that's why you do your job and I'm asking the questions. Am I right? It's been some quick adding up Martin. It should come and it should come with the caveat to our listeners that my mass AS exams were considered unworthy of a grade by the exam board. So there might be some rounding errors in there. Am I right in thinking that Verstappen was quickest on race pace did a one 17 9 at the end of that 15 or 16 lap race simulation. So Verstappen looking very quick on the race pace, Lonzo quick you mentioned Russell was doing okay, leclerc did pretty well. But leclerc was doing all his runs on the softer tyres and science did his 16 laps on the harder compound or the medium compound. So what a Ferrari doing there with splitting their practice strategies. It's a bit of a different strategy actually to how they and Red Bull in fact approach Baku, which is they put one driver on the medium compound and one driver on the soft count and pan. So you had to divergence. Ferrari have sort of gone a bit of peace here and they had both drivers on the soft early on, which is a bit of an odd one because there's two things to bear in mind. One that soft soft tyre is always geared towards qualifying. That's the area Ferrari seems to have licked. But then again, why focus on race pace if your engine isn't going to last a distance to the race, you might argue. And the other caveat is to add the normal caveat you have in free practice is that you don't know about engine mode, you don't know about fuel loads and we have sort of like a third element this time, which is we don't really know what leclerc's engine is doing. So he's got a new internal combustion engine because all the components that were carried over from all the components that went popping back here are complete write off. But he's got a turbocharger and just to sort of he's got a turbocharger that's already been used as season, so so far we haven't got it confirmed that he will take a grid penalty because he's still on the limit of the three turbochargers that raise allocation. So that suggests to me that Baku, the turbocharger is destroyed and that was already a new one from Spain because Spain, they still haven't quite divulged the true nature of that failure, but it wiped out the turbo. So if this is his third one, it means it has to be a pre Miami spec when they upgraded the engine. So if it's a pre Miami spec and a third one, some roundabout numbers is probably about 5 races old, that turbocharger. So as much as these things are designed to last, it's not going to be giving its full performance another power dependent track. So to come back to what I was saying, we don't know quite what a turbo is doing quite well if you're doing. So that we're seeing Ferrari do their longer runs on a soft tyre and they're still what I've got leclerc's average lap taking out a couple of the anomaly is I've got them about an 18.4 one minute 18.4 second. That's what three tenths down on what Verstappen was doing on a medium, the same as what Perez was doing on the medium. So, you know, you might have this offset which would potentially at the moment put Ferrari about 6 tenths down on Red Bull, which is a bit complicated, a bit of a round of houses sort of a way of explaining it. But in summary, not all that much reason to be optimistic I think if you're a Ferrari fan, certainly on the initial learnings from free practice two, and I'm sure as well, a quick plug. That's what our colleague, Alex Kala naukas, will be racing through now going through the numbers and you'll be able to read that analysis and sort of he can softly predict or softly point you in a direction of who he thinks race win will be and you can read that on the Saturday before qualifying. Absolutely make sure you do check out auto sport dot com and the plus section for our subscribers where we put some of the finest long form motor sport writing in the world. Yuki tsunoda will start the Canadian Grand Prix from the back of the grid after taking an entirely new power unit for the weekends, encountering a spite of engine problems over the opening. Races of the seas and left him on the verge of a penalty and ahead of Montreal, his AlphaTauri team electing to break the season's limit, an all new Red Bull components package for the weekend. That puts him over his limit of internal combustion engine turbocharger and mg H and K and so he'll be starting from the rear. We know that already, but because of the order in which penalties are replied, if leclerc then now Ferrari actually we're going to change some components, that potential ten place grid drop could be a potential back of the grid which would put him at the back of the grid list, anybody else makes subsequent changes. So in terms of the actual finishing order of free practice two in terms of the quick lapse, the quality pace, again, you don't know big caveat. We don't know the engine modes, but Max Verstappen with a one 14 .1 charla Claire, not far behind, with a one 14 two zero Carlos Sainz with a one 14 three 5 two, then Sebastian Vettel, who had a great Baku. He needs a teammate to also score some points, but for now, in 5th followed by a Fernando Alonso, again, very similar to say very similar setup and doing really well. Followed by Pierre gasly. So at the minute, it's the kind of as you were, really, those drivers that were having a great time 7 days ago. Also repeating George Russell in 7th Lando Norris in 8th, Daniel Ricciardo, second McLaren straight behind, and those two drivers seem a little bit more on par this weekend as well and Esteban ocon second LP intent. So what's your reading of the quick laps that you saw today? And actually, we saw some quick elapsing the first session because everyone thought it was going to rain this afternoon. So it wasn't the kind of typical two sessions. What's your reading? Yeah, usually have sort of Verstappen playing it quite a start to start session you know you're cars close to his chest. So I'm not coming out yet. Everyone crack on, you trip over each other on track and then they'll be out sometime in a near future. I've got this in hand on the champion, but no, everyone out and like you say it was, I think the weather radar and certainly for FP one only had it down as 20% chance of rain, but it's one of those where you go by what you can see and that was a massive great cloud looming over. So you can sort of feel it in the air and I know for our colleagues on the ground yesterday they got caught in somewhere between a downpour and a typhoon I think it was built out. So now that the weather is changing out there so get the most of the running. As for as for the one lap stuff. So Verstappen ended that FPT on a one minute 14.1 and leclerc was on a one minute 14.2 and they were both set earlier on on a soft tyre similar sort of levels of track evolution so fairly comparable. And so then it comes down to that that basically what I was saying earlier is what are the fuel levels doing? You know, typically you would leave something in reserve. You're trying to again keep your cars closer to chest. And secondly, how far wound down is the clerk's engine. And the reason I want to labor on that point is not just because it's no part, but I don't know whether it was shown depending on what coverage you're watching or which commentary stream you had. But he was asked to come out of the pits and warm up his tyres and he pulled over at the pit exit and he couldn't do a burnout and to drive us team radio, what's going on here? And a radio reply is it's a turbo. It's a turbo..

"You think do you think you can stay out and hold these conditions? Immediately. Straight into the wall afterwards. But that's because he answered the question about 5 seconds before the cat. It wasn't happening as live. Yeah, exactly, so when it comes out on the live TV forecasts that you're seeing, it's probably at least 30 seconds, maybe a minute, maybe a couple of laps old. But when you're watching it live on F one TV, there is a delay that needs to appreciate. Like, I noticed it with leclerc when he came into the pit lane and had his meltdown when he saw science was there because for our record him into late. He's gesturing with his hands and that's when he's shouting down the radio whereas that doesn't happen until if you watch the video anyway, so I've gone down a massive massive tangent there. No, I noticed that before because some of the best radio is after the flag. So if you do subscribe to F one TV and you've got time. Often it's fun just to go back and change the driver and just listen to the chatter for that cool down lap because they seem to obviously keep a lot off the radio and a lot for the debrief. But they seem to be a little more relaxed and kind of forget and it's interesting hearing the engineers coaching them on like you haven't done this but also it's interesting to hear that chatter. But I'm glad you said that Alex because a few times I've sort of seen the gears change on the wheel and it's like the audio doesn't match and that must be why. So I'm not going mad. I'm not going but if you have time on a Sunday, I'd recommend going back or any time actually and going back and listening because I was already really fascinating team radio at the end of the story, Jess. I talked over here. No, I think that's how I kind of I was going to say so you probably said something far more so there we go. So Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban ocon were the two that made the hard made the strategy work with running long. They both did 33 laps on the hards and stayed out and then did a shorter stint on the mediums. Both finishing in the top ten and getting some decent points. So yeah, double points finish for Alpine double points finish for McLaren benefiting those teams that were able to stay out and get some reliability as well, let's work our way down also good to see out at Valtteri Bottas in 11th missing out on the points, but yesterday on Saturday's podcast with Matt and John noble. They were talking about how Alfa Romeo have kind of gone backwards a little bit in terms of they were bringing those upgrades and really impressing and then this weekend a little bit more anonymous anyone else having that feeling would agree with John. John's just upset that Bottas didn't prove his sector three of Spain dairy around Monaco. It's probably got a theory that basically you can look at sector three in Spain and it should give you a good indication of who's going to come out well in Monaco and John had, well, it was true. Valtteri was really good through sector three in Spain. And then nothing happened in Monaco. So I'm only joking, of course, I'm completely pulling John's leg, but yeah. He's probably got a lot of bad things to say because they're not justifies his. Predictions still remaining true or valid. No, I'm pleased you brought it up because John also has a theory about F two and F one at Baku in his theory is if his theory is F two is crazy. And everyone bends it, then F one will be very boring because all the teams have just seen it and gone, oh, and actually in an F two this weekend on the sprint race, that was just a destruction Derby. In fact, there was a really horrible accident at the end. Was it Callum Williams? Getting like two cars like T boning him is horrible. Not that high speed, but it was a horrible accident. And so that was Jon's theory. There was a fight in the paddock after the race. What's that? Who was fighting? One of the drivers dads and the other drivers manager. I'm going to do it, Dan. I'm going to butcher the pronunciation, but the Turkish F two drivers, father and Roy nissany trainer, had a tether. Got into her. Oh, sorry, I spoke. I always liked that. Matt can you keep trying it? Matt Q we used any excuse to use that in a race reverse. I have noticed actually. Yeah, we had an we had a we had an amazing conversation in Bahrain about it. He absolutely loves it. I'm less of that. But you're right, I would subscribe to John's theory of basically the F one drivers and teams get spooked by F scary F two races at Baku. So they ease off and then if it's fine and then you'll just have a mental F one race. Let's work our way down a little bit. Alex Albon. Again, pace, or at least results, disappearing as quick as the red hair dye has done very talked about it on this podcast. We've talked about it before. There's another theory. They read my Friends. Yuki tsunoda, of course, with his duct tape rear wing ring coming home in 13th, not being able to use. His DRS Mick Schumacher 14th and then Latifi in 15th and Lance stroll in 16th. So yeah, the DNFs for Kevin Magnussen in the house and the two Ferraris as well, and I'm sure the Internet Jess will come back at you and saying, oh, yes, but correlation doesn't mean causation, but there is something here with Ferrari. So as we start to turn our attention on the podcast to look in forward. To Canada, I think we've kind of covered a lot of it off, but there's nothing that they can do is there. It's on the freight. Well, it's not even that freight, it's a different set of freight that's already in Canada. There's nothing the teams can do at this short notice about apart from that they can change components on reliability and upgrade on reliability, but it's as you were, isn't it? Worry times at Ferrari, anything else that we haven't covered off on the podcast yet before we talk about Canada. Yeah, can we talk about Joe guangyu? Because he was brilliant, he was much better than Bottas and Bottas is like, yeah, I don't know why so much faster than me. You can't explain it. And he's just been like, he got that point in Bahrain on debut. And just since then, he's one of luck, has been appalling. And considering the other, because he comes in with that sort of pay driver reputation, I know Formula One are absolutely delighted to have a Chinese driver informally one because of the markets and the opportunities that the suggestions there might be second racing Beijing, things like that. The opportunities that come from his presence there. The other drives to the page drive attack stroll and Latifi, the CM has just been awful. Whereas Joe has been very good and yet has had catastrophic misfortune and again, the car let us sit down again and he stopped here on the radio. Guys, what this, how can he still be happening? So yeah, I just thought it would be worth giving him a shout out because he was very impressive this weekend. I totally agree that he was I would tipped him for points as he was coming through the field and looking sort of where Bottas was like indeed he was quicker than Bottas and was ahead of him. And batter's finished 11th. So he would have been probably battling off on for that final point, but yeah, he was very, very unlucky. Yeah, the much like his comments over the radio sort of his post race was just like, oh, not again, but you sort of feel like regardless of that. If he keeps putting in those sorts of performances, given that he is still a rookie, of course. His fortune will change and things will come well. I guess one driver I'd like to mention just because it was not a race hill, remember for any of the right reasons again, which is sort of a tale of the season again, is Nicholas the tfe picking up penalties like their sweeties. But the blue flag one, at least the FIA decided blue flag to give some penalties for blue flags, because obviously I wasn't on the podcast after Monaco, but I went, I went through it and both Williams cars.

"When he still used to have light in his eyes, when he still used to enjoy Formula One before his pick it up rubbish. Yes. So why is the team formerly known as Aston faun in the competition at the moment? Would they go through a lot? That is very good if the thing doesn't lock me out again. That would be, that would be most handy. So as an outright play sick for the season, 312th. But as for imola, sorry, let's go through the teams again, Michael. Instead of dancing by saving the pathetic Grand Prix, which way did I where did I rank? Oh, I must be in the top two 50 because for him. Yeah, where's my team? Wow. Wow. 107th. Wow. That's great. I think that's a record. I think that's very impressive. So I have a look at this for a lineup. So Ferrari, of course, the constructor. It's okay. Pierre gasly. I didn't score points. Okay. Ricciardo. Yeah. Lando Norris. Oh, very good. Now we're kicking in. Sergio Pérez. Oh, yes, boys. And Yuki tsunoda. Yes. He was good as well. I think I profited from people having much worse going praise because I'm not impressed by that lineup to be perfectly honest with you. But I'm surprised better, you know, if you turbo drivers the right one and you get some good ones there, 'cause I, for this week, you need more. Was only 373rd, which is a devastating. So my team is Ferrari. So not so great. One of their cars finished, I guess, and one of the source of many points. Charles Leclerc, case called door or I points, Fernando Alonso, retired when he side pod exploded. Valtteri Bottas had a good race actually. I'm enjoying the Valtteri Bottas. What must be up to now? 10.0 movies. That's a bypass the entire evolution. Yeah, so in fact, he's just been renamed. Yes, just alpha. Kevin Magnussen needs to do a chemical points peer gasly. So not so good because that's in the overall rankings now dropped me presumably to sorry there's an era. We're working to get that fixed. That's a sham. He said, here we go. 240 if he's where I am in the overall rankings, wonderful lounge on 657 points. Well, now I've got to come up with a new name. Yes, that is difficult, isn't it? It's very tricky. Everyone scored. Also, every team scored points. This must be the earliest every team scored points in many years. Find out, we'll open the Wikipedia page. Liquor Lando Norris. Very good. That is the best. That is a very good idea. Wow, that's the main thing we could deal at bonus points on this competition. I'd cash out. If that was that, the world famous 5 minute replay is 8th 9th is Cyril's tattoo and tenth equal tenth drawn intent is Ricardo don't call it a comeback and figjam from Canada. Yes, it would be quite a delicious meat tryout of thought from Italy. Yes, the prosciutto of the calendar. They don't read Monaco being the jewel in The Crown. Emilia romagna is the prosciutto of the platter. I'll tell you what though. You know, back onto the sprint race. I feel like because of course it can't have the full pomp and ceremony of the fall. No. Which is it's very good the Formula One knows the boundaries of this fruit and rice and where it really sits, you know. Instead of a trophy, you get a medal. And they know that. So instead of like a full podium, they have quite frankly a little bit of a WTC icon to set up. It's just a party about the back. Yes. It is like that, isn't it? Digital, a digital style, or is it print? I'm not sure, actually. In fact, not sure. It doesn't matter. So it's a problem ceremony at the back. Yeah, it is basically. You've got the track and the answer telling everyone to be quiet for a second before they give out the awards. Yeah, it's a little bit, it's not quite as slick 'cause it's what you expect with Formula One. But they should have every sort of Grand Slam event. A try of delicacy. Yes. For the drivers to sample. So it's basically instead of the drivers replenishing with electrolytes. There's nothing that doesn't make great television than people eating food. It's a massive winner. So you don't like it at a work function say, you know, party pies and sausage rolls, you know, sort of a morning tea kind of set up. Every morning. It's a bit of light lunch after this free. Exactly, yes, yes, bit of an antipasto platter. But it'd be good to catch her. I feel like food is a great equalizer in immunization. I feel like if you had, let's say Lewis Hamilton wins another screen race and let's face it, Lewis Hamilton may not win another race. But you know, people like he's a surfer crying out there. Yes. And he's worth a lot of money. That's above the level of party pies. It is quite a status. But you don't know that. Yeah. He may enjoy. It'd be good to see. Whatever he drives select. If I had a platter, so you got, you know, those fancy sort of things with words that I just like Pomodoro or whatever. I don't know what it looks like. It has readiness. Yeah, exactly. I know it came from a tomato. I don't know what that is. It's got some yellow sort of sauce on top, but then again, you know, if you had some pizza pockets. On the side? That is a bit more advanced, isn't it? So every Grand Prix we have some different light lunches on the side. Is the rule that they have to come from the freezer aisle. Does that mean how is that the definition? 100%. And must come in a bag. So if it's not frozen, must be in a bag and nothing fresh. It's not wouldn't be unacceptable to have something fresh. Must be immediately be able to be placed into decanted into a bowl. Yes. Oh yes. Straight out of the bag, preferably. I said, that doesn't scrape. You could be Max Verstappen, Lewis Hamilton. It doesn't matter. Paid him again, Leo Mako Leonardo wrote James. We're all the same person. You have to get a napkin? Yes, you do. And 8 politely. And be prepared that you'll get sauce on your fingers. Yeah, regardless. Because it being recorded on camera is very unflattering. I'm a big fan of this. It's like I always say Michael. It's now there's four great equalizers in life. People falling off chairs before we go over in the street. Yes. I forget what the third one is. And people having potty paws of a light lunch. Having to brush flakes of pastry off the front of this shoe. It's iconic. It's iconic of the human race. And that's a big deal..

"So I think there's going to be more to come from Mercedes even Christian Horner set off the race that I'm sure they'll get to the bottom of it and they will become a force again. But yeah, just crazy to see how things have changed. Rather than just going back to the front, you can become a force, but you're playing catch up. So you can't just become as fast as Ferrari or Red Bull. You've got to become exactly as fast as and more. Plus a percentage. I said that if we're a second behind, we need to find a second and a half, because that's going to put us in front enough to be able to rack up points to get back in the side to fight. So it's a big, big mountain from Mercedes climbing this season. I always feel like we don't often give enough time to drivers that have had a great day. But Yuki tsunoda coming in 7th AlphaTauri AKP Pierre gasly whilst back in 12th in that kind of DRS train behind the Williams of Alex Albon actually and Lewis Hamilton behind him just couldn't get past, but otherwise Vettel and stroll in 8th and tenth bring it in those Aston Martins like we kind of came away from Australia. And my impression was, wow, Aston just got so much work to do. And then we come here, track to track different characteristics, and they're going to do a double points finish. Anyone want to take on any thoughts on any of those drivers first, before I pick on someone Luke obviously. I actually made a flip and comment to Alex in the airport queue while we were leaving Melbourne saying, what if Aston Martin don't score any points this year? What if they finish behind Williams? And that was probably a bit like, oh, it's just said a bit of apocalyptic. It's just like, oh, imagine this extreme scenario. And then this weekend, I think, yeah, better the vessel did very, very well to get as high up as he did through qualifying and through the spread and stroll today, yeah, he was, he was in good shape and stroll after the race. He said, let's not say, look, we fixed everything and we've got a car that's going to be solidly fighting for points now. But we're going to take advantage and seize the moment when we can. And that's exactly what Aston did today. And yeah, I mean, what, 5 points on the board? That's a very tidy haul. And I think it's similar to similar to Williams in a way. It's kind of thing where it's like, we know those aren't or merit, but if we get the opportunity, we're absolutely going to take advantage of that. So yeah, very, very well deserved and very well earned today. Yeah, so our backtrack on saying not America entirely was today. But yeah, I think they can be really pleased with that. And while I mentioned Williams there, Alex Albon, brilliant again in 11th place, and he said, to him, that performance was just as good as what he did in Melbourne when he got a point for P ten and he said, yeah, I'm really happy with that. And I'm just so good to see him performing at the peak of his powers again. Disappointed that he couldn't pick up a point today, Lance stroll was in tenth. Kevin Magnussen 9th, the last of the drivers on the lead lap and Mick Schumacher's 17th, so again, a bit of a big, same as McLaren, a big difference between the driver that scored pretty well on the driver that didn't. And we know Mick is a quick driver. But Kevin Magnussen, Alex, look, I know it's a bit of a cliche to say, oh, you know, they went backwards through the race, but it did feel like he was getting a fair amount of overtakes done on him in the first half of the race, really. He did kind of go backwards a bit, but will he feel disappointed with 9th today, but K max having an incredible start to the season. It's so good to see you. It's interesting. I think it sort of the cost of regressed a little bit to its natural level. I think it was of artificially inflated by the nature of how qualifying ended up, obviously he was one of the drivers to benefit from causing a red flag or one of the drivers to cause red flag that ended up benefiting from one. Also, I do think qualifying going back to Friday night had a real impact on the weekend for so many drivers and so many teams. I don't think Mercedes necessarily had both cars knocked out in Q three if there wasn't a red flag. Sorry, both cars knocked out in Q two if there wasn't a red flag there because they were all the gaps everyone from knife down to 15th were within a couple of attempts. It was all incredibly close. And you just don't know if I'm probably thinking more about George Russell would have been able to get ahead. And that would have made things very, very different. Made things harder for Vettel and Aston Martin. They did incredibly well. A bit like in Australia. Australia, a bit of an outlier track. I think Ferrari was as good as it looked there. I don't think astin was as bad in reality as it looks there. It's the same with Magnuson, right? So yeah, so he's sort of ends up higher than he should have been because problems for others. And then it just sort of regressed naturally. And the car is very, very good. They've made massive steps as leek said, helped by the fact that the Ferrari engine is no longer really down on power. Again, it's one of those things. He looked like a bit of a sitting duck, it was a weird tactic to go on the mediums in the sprint race. That didn't make a lot of sense. I think they expected higher degradation than the one that ended up being. But yeah, he will be this might be because he's a racing driver because that's just what they like. They don't think in terms of, oh, I'm just so happy you're lucky to be here. They always want to win. He shouldn't be disappointed. I think 9th place is still a decent result for us. We move on and I just finish off below the top ten for completeness Alex Albon 11th in the Williams Pierre gasly 12 Hamilton 13th. Esteban ocon for some stories as we head down the grid, yes, a bit of an unsafe relief release for ocon into Hamilton's path in a pretty tight sort of old fashioned pit line, a bit of contact. They got away with that. Joe 15th in the Alfa Romeo Nicholas Latifi 16th mixed Schumacher at 17th Daniel Ricciardo 18th in the McLaren two DNS Fernando Alonso damage at the beginning. The race and Carlos Sainz as we have mentioned. Now we move on. In two weeks time. And we're heading to Miami. Man, this is exciting. We have hired the worst Airbnb that money can buy. And you guys are all heading over there. Are you going to be staying in the same place? Alex, you're back on your back on the road. Are you looking forward to mainly because we're going to Formula One race, but also really interestingly, we've been invited to a special media event or a special sort of sponsor event by Mercedes Benz because Lewis Hamilton and Tom Brady are playing golf together. Now I have absolutely no time for golf. But two of the greatest sportspeople in the world being together, I think that's very, very cool, so yeah, looking forward to that, as well as seeing what Miami has in offer. And what else are you looking forward to, Alex? Wishing you a happy birthday? There we go. Yeah, there we go. Thank you. We're going to catch some we're going to have some baseball out there. That's the other thing I've thought you were referencing. Yeah, we got I'm going to have 29 hour 27th birthday on May 3rd. So I'm boxing this as birthday beers baseball Brady and some Formula One. Nice. Brilliant. I like it. NFL's mommy dolphins are making way at the hard rock stadium for some Formula One Jess. Are you looking forward to just something new and a different track layout and like literally everything is unknown I know that tracks they'll be doing modeling and simulators and all that which they always do going to.

"I couldn't even tell you. It would have been. You know, what would have been in the V8 era? I'm guessing. Ten years ago, yes, yes, that's right. It would have been 12, of course, 2012. Oh, yeah, this is the McLaren era. My God, really? Yeah, yes. Yes, I didn't even think about that. You're right, yes, it is the McLaren era. Budapest? No, no, it was Korea. The great Korean Grand Prix. Do you remember when we used to have a Korean Grand Prix? I do remember that, yes. If he doesn't remember what point he scored in the very few Korean grand prixs, surely there would be memorable enough because he only did a handful of us. Well, I'm trying to think I should look this up. When he debuted in 2007, did points only go down to 8? Yeah, it's still not really an excuse. Yeah, so then go. So maybe, you know, he's regressing into his mind. You know he's forgetting all of the success going back to when he was a child. But that really summarized how depressing his day was finished tenth. Mercedes car still no good. I don't know what they're going to look like when they get to Melbourne. Likewise, McLaren. I mean, they looked a bit better actually than they did in Bahrain, but still, you know, the outskirts of the points, at least Lando Norris knew that they were points for the low paying places and shame Daniel Ricciardo retired, but he's having good race. In fact, a lot of cosmic Ricardo Alonso and Valtteri Bottas all retired on the same lap, with engine problems. Yuki tsunoda had an engine problem every day Friday Saturday and Sunday so much for that Red Bull bench onto power unit. And him Perez gasly all have already taken power unit parts to build a penalty. It's very old school Honda. It's very classic Honda at the moment. I've got to say, yeah, so if you can't say Honda I guess because they no longer paying for that privilege. It's very classic Red Bull powertrains. It's like the opposite of Braun with the nil percent strike rate of reliability. Quite literally. Every race they've had, they've had issues. So two Grand Prix is down and they're at nil, I love that threat. I don't even know what it means, but British people like to say it to Jeremy clocks and walks to the sides. And let's just finally, we've got a touch on Mick Schumacher's crash. It was a big one, big boy. In qualifying in Q two, he was second hospital. He's fine. He did not race because Haas was worried that they might be another crash and then they wouldn't have a car to bring to Australia, so they decided to be better just to go to Australia. Which they did. But I think what's also interesting, I guess this brings us back to the discussion about Saudi Arabia is that it's not only the context of the race, but quite a few drivers spoke about the safety of the circuit, the fact that it's sort of too fast and too blind to be too fast. It's too fast and too furious in other words. Which is just no, it's no good. We all know that. I think that there's a track that appeared on the calendar to be the fastest straight sick, the one with the most corners. And Max Verstappen sounded really well. We said most of them are really just stripes. There's no reason for them to be corners. It only makes them dangerous for no reason. There are only 7 breaking zones at this 27 quarter circuit, by the way. So it's not really. So how do you know there are 27 corners? That's like, I thought the Nurburgring. Yeah, yeah, because most of them are rubbing. Most of them are just like gentle bins. But that's the way it is, but it makes them blind and make some dangerous and of course an ought to concrete walls, virtually no runoff, even the previously very wacky Azerbaijan circuit has run off areas at the end of straights like a conventional straight track. So I do wonder whether, you know, if the circuit comes back next to you, which you probably will, if it's going to look a fair bit different to what we got. But obviously, thankful that Mick Schumacher's okay wasn't the only driver was injured. Was it had drives in F two have pretty big crashes in simo places every day this weekend as I feel like was the case last week and there was a big crash and I think when F one drive was a happy to admit that they don't love the safety then something's probably wrong. Yeah if she thinks a few things to unpack from this weekend by the Santa Fe. So for the interest of safety and making a political point, I decided not to wake up at 4 o'clock in the morning and.

"You. Personally, on a personal level, in formula mcginley brought to you by lick a land. Visit Michelangelo dot com dot are you for great deals on your favorite drinks? I'm pleased to say after one race, where up to 379 entrance, but still short obviously of the half ton, or the 5 ten and a half ton. Half metric ton. Now I'm mildly concerned, Michael because I can not find where I am. In the box oh no hang on, hang on. I take that back. Wow, actually, you know what? I'm pretty happy with this, because this, wow, where we have 379s, that is after one week. Wow, that's awesome. I'm happy with that. That's really good. So yeah, that's that birds well. So we want to crack the half ton and beyond as well. So, and again, so last week I had, of course, the issues with the profanity filter, F one fantasy, so you will find Aston farting ranking 297th. Out of 379, which is not great. But I've had worse. Remarkably. So and let me remember last week, I was all koka hoop about my driver lineup. Yes. Oh no, who was it in? It was Yuki tsunoda. Okay. It's a good point. Sergio Pérez. I'm not as good. Lando Norris. No, no. Oh, no, I remember. Both the car and drivers did theater. Oh no. Miranda, what was me turbo driver? As well. "Why are you expecting that? Well, hello, Ariana and hello listeners. Got to be honest. Now I was not. Lewis Hamilton topped FP three, but I think also looking back crucially, he was looking better over a single lap in FP two, which is obviously the most representative practice session of the weekend because it takes place in that. That's why in tonight's conditions that qualifying in the race takes place. Mercedes seemed fairly confident that things were sort of swing closer together between Mercedes and Red Bull represent a bit of a step behind yesterday, but crucially ahead of the head in terms of the long run, which I'm sure we'll get on to talking about later on. Mercedes thinking things will close up and Verstappen absolutely stunned them. Ripple moved to a low down force package, skinny rear wing, trying an FP three, went ahead with that in qualifying as having said that made the car much better. Had some question marks of what was happening there wasn't feeling particularly happy, said it was up and down all through practice, but Q one felt better. It'd be a fine tuning bit of fiddling and it's got better mess and better. And yeah, absolutely stunning proposition well done to him. It is the result that he should have had from 89% of the lap in Jeddah last week when it just went wrong at the final corner there. So brilliant. Yeah, wasn't expecting that, but fair play, great result from actress having. Well, I spoke to several people in the paddock today and general consensus was that the Mercedes was looking stronger and many were predicting Lewis would take it, but of course you can never count max out and he came through it with a really impressive lap there. What did you make of Red Bull strategy today is setting the fastest times on the softs in Q two and as a result setting themselves up to start the race on this office as well and then also check out riding the tofu Mac. Do you think that they were smart strategy caused by the team? It's an interesting one. Yes and no. In terms of yes, the toe tactics worked treat. Gained yet a bit of time. But also, as we saw in Mexico, it can go badly wrong when you try things like that. And actually, if you think about Red Bull over the course season, it's sort of much more than Mercedes is often tried to be a bit too clever in terms of the way those things sort of things. But again, as I said with Verstappen, fair play were absolutely brilliantly. It was really interesting. You said in the press conference that he discussed it with Paris, but when I asked if they'd had a chance to actually practice it out on track, he said, no, they didn't. They didn't sort of coordinate it in terms of giving it a go in any of the practice sessions. They just had the confidence that they would be able to nail it in one go. And they absolutely did with their with pairs leading with that inter turn 9. What is interesting is that Verstappen doesn't think that's the reason he got proposition. He reckons it was only worth a tenth of a second. He just nailed the rest of the lap of the exit from the chicane 7 80 chicane, particularly impressive. But yeah, again, absolutely brilliant from Verstappen and from Red Bull and it is interesting to also put the same sort of question to Lewis Hamilton he got asked about it in the press conference. Why didn't Mercedes do a toe? Because it's worked out and said brilliantly repel do you look very smart, but also could have looked very bad, but they didn't. But the point about that is, is that Louis Hamilton says, well, we don't really do that because it can go to disastrously wrong as it did for Red Bull in Mexico when Perez and Stafford came across yeki tsunoda. So we have seen it go wrong for Red Bull, but it didn't this time, so fair enough. Yeah, you have a bit of starting on the softs for the race tomorrow. And that's not what Verstappen wanted to do, at least that's what he's saying. And the reason why phrases like that is because Lewis Hamilton bizarrely was like, oh, you don't normally look up at one only locks up at her money, obviously hasn't watching any of the on boards from asses, this weekend, but pages that I'm skeptical with everything and then if he really locked up, then okay, but he sort of genuinely found it quite odd. But I think if you listen to his staff's reaction, you get a real sense that he didn't want to do what he did on the medium tyres halfway through Q two. He's right. I think ideally, you would want to start on the medium tires. I'm sure we'll come to talk about later on. So yeah, it wasn't a deliberate ploy from Red Bull as far as far as I can tell. Yeah, just circumstances, but equally, they could have gone back to a new set of mediums they didn't. They would like, right, okay? That's happened. Move on to the next move on to the next situation. And then out on the softs. I think that max starting on this off tomorrow will definitely spice up that restart. How wide do you think that that decision is looking ahead to the whole duration of the race? Do you think that is a choice that could potentially backfire on them? Against of maybe yes, maybe no, but what I would say is that it's definitely not the best strategy on paper in terms of how you would want to approach the race tomorrow, but it also really, really depends on how easy it is to overtake it with these track changes. Like talking to some teams through the interesting, if you look at turn 9, the first hairpin, let that happen at the end of this first act of sector. And turn 9 as well at the opposite end of the track. The braking zones are very, very, very short, so unless you've got a massive tire delta, don't think overtaking is going to be particularly easy there. That said, at the start of the lap those sector one, if you can stay behind it on the car follow very, very closely through those sweeping downhill bends, which I ran down around track tonight. It's us an amazing facility here. Got a great view coming out of town for all the way down to that stadium section where that new turn 5 years. But anyway, with that, if you can stay close through there, stay closer to 5, overtaking should be possible with DRS into the chicane that splits up the two backtracks. But we just don't know. In terms of the soft tires and what happens in car and it potentially backfiring. Rebel will look to launch away really, really well..

"tsunoda" Discussed on Box of Neutrals

"Many times this season. So let's play this recording. Daniel Ricciardo now regrets going to McLaren base off the pace of LP another. Sorry. Which at the moment is mildly concerned he had McLaren going to have the 2022 cars on rocket ship. But that's good. I didn't realize it was so long ago that Alonzo has been on the beside he you're telling me. So the status is what 2014 and Gary and Grand Prix. Which is, you know, about 6 lockdowns ago and the entire pandemic a couple of bushfires ago. And at least the pandemic ago. Or 2674 days between podium. So he didn't get one in McLaren. That's a Ferrari party. Wow. So he's hit. He's gone too. McLaren, buggered off to IndyCar and the WAC for a little bit, then the Dakar rally. And he's come back with that. Which is a nice result. I mean, I know probably Fernando. And I know the reasons why, because it was a big Daniel Ricciardo. I saw his haul it out pain that they couldn't feel the environment. But yeah, but but that's a good news story. I think for Fernando, the multi generational Formula One driver to be able to, yeah, he's still got it. And some of his driving, it was just, you know, Fernando evolved, which is, which is nice to say, and let's go for Alpine. And I think we were discussing last week of the weekend before about how, you know, the surprise surprisingly taught championship battle across the field. You know, Mercedes and Red Bull and then Ferrari McLaren. And then this Alpine alpha tower battle let's go on. So that's blind at a little bit. It's one 37 to one one two now. Channeling my potato Windsor. Between those two. So it's an icon did I can that race? What did he get in there? He did very well. L pain had a very good idea. The sort of a little bit up and down, which is, you know, again, hoping good things for that squad because, you know, serial visibles, hairy plan is a little bit behind on schedule, but there's glimmers of hope for that squad. So yeah, it's a nice little earner for them. Yes, it was Fernando evolved. Strong and bald one might say, but it was also what I thought was interesting. Well, I mean, let me tell you as well. 2014 Hungarian Grand Prix was before even Max Verstappen debuted in Formula One. If you do want to feel particularly yeah, yes, David in 2018. But he was still effectively free agency in formula three. Probably never heard of him. He didn't even get that some pretty short that test he had in F one. I haven't feel signed by then, but that was in Japan where they ran him, I think. Yeah. So he'd just been signed by it. There was a basically a bidding auction. Well, yes. And Red Bull. The history would have gone very differently if they signed with the silver arrows. Hang on, say how about this? I've just looked this up. Thank you Wikipedia. He signed with Thor Rosso or the Red Bull junior program. In August 2014, which would have been now I'm just, I just want to find out when the Hungarian Grand Prix was because theoretically, when Alonso last one, last got a podium. That would have been a maximum was technically a Mercedes driver. He was technically incredible. That's true. I can't be both looking at it so many things. Not enough. But yeah, it's a ran that sort of time frame of when the star of the staff was just about to explore, don't do the Formula One saying. Yes. And there we are, all these years later. It was good news for LP no. I think it's really interesting that in the space of one week and I've pretty much blown away alpha towery because, well, it's hard to say. You don't want to say it's sealed. Because we do still have two races to go and as much as this happened this weekend, it could happen in the opposite direction. What happened to dazzling? I saw that he was pretty high up on the green for the Grand Prix. So they just had a connection. Well, in fact, he started ahead of Alonso, but also got ahead with this great overtaking we've returned three around the outside. But that was really Fernando lots of old. But then, I mean, gasly said elf Atari, the car just didn't have the pace and you could see it with Yuki tsunoda as well who looked like he was going to move up originally. And then just couldn't go anywhere. And unfortunately, after his second stop Gaz Lee got stuck behind, Sebastian Vettel. It was just so he couldn't even score points in the Martin trolley. Yes, absolutely. Yes, did Martin shipping palette was just trundling around? And he couldn't get past overtaking was difficult. And he said anyway, the car was just not quick enough. So it wasn't even necessarily bad strategy. But a really off weekend for them considering gasoline in every practice session and then in qualifying as well as in the top three, I think I'm saying got up for. And for the last couple of weeks, that's pretty much where he's been. Every session he's been sort of top 5, scoring regularly, consistently. And then it's almost a bit of shame, isn't it? The LP just turns up and it's probably a bit of a function of a new track, which again means for the next certainly the next round in Saudi Arabia. We should expect a little bit of a random result potentially in the midfield so close. And then maybe even every Dobby considering that's a little bit new. But there's also this irony, isn't there that we're so used to at this point of the year? Saying, well, you know, Mercedes is one of the championship with the battle for second and third and fourth. Super exciting. But now at the moment, Ferrari's pretty much got third nailed on. Alkane looks locked in for 5th. There's nothing else happening in the constructor standings except the battle for the championship. Yeah, surely it is remarkable that, at this point, I wouldn't have thought either squad would have the upper hand on their respective rivals, especially McLaren considering that we're kind of ending the year looking like on a bit of an upward trajectory, but it kind of went. It packed very quickly and Ferrari just been the quiet achievers, which is ironically, which was the same strategy. McLaren did to get out of the real sort of funk of the JB two engineers with Honda where they just went, you know what, we're just going to quietly chip away and not make any noise for a little bit. And then we will pay out. But I haven't really hasn't really exploded yet. So yeah, like I said, Zack needs to stop driving old F one cars. Rebuild the team again. McLaren scored four points in the last three rounds. That's no good. And then another engine issue, but I think it was what fuel issues with. Yes. Ricardo again, and then landar had just it just wasn't there. So I really hope it's a case of well they've turned off the 2021 tap because presumably they raid sort of old car magazines. I have no money. They would discuss that last week. I think it came out like the night of the podcast, and then was refuted the day after. Yeah, which obviously I think is a case of, well, given that McLaren of Papua, you kind of have to sort of take the word that that deal is not happening. I mean, you know, it's I wouldn't close the door on it, but that would have been mentioned if that came true. I don't think a lot of people didn't like that. It was like a step into a parallel universe where McLaren was sold out to a magic car company and people didn't really like that because I think everyone enjoys how relatively independent McLaren is. But yeah, well, I should be steering, okay, so yeah, watch that spice, but hopefully the 2022 cars are a rocket ship because yeah, it's been a little bit underwhelming, perhaps you could siphon for McLaren give them the last couple of years where they've really looked up and up and up. Yes, it has been just a disappointing conclusion for them. Even with the rice win. But you need consistently good results and it just hasn't been there since since then. Yeah, it's just been very flat for McLaren, very unfortunate for McLaren, Landon Norris did have a puncture light in the race,.
