"A week from tonight. James, going to help us look forward to the first presidential debate set the stakes when we come back. Joe Biden has to out on that stage and Confront Donald Trump and hold them to account. Scott to confront trumpism vice president has to take the presidency from Donald Trump. It's a week from tonight Biden and trump face off in Cleveland. Ohio for the first presidential debate socially distance. They will discuss six topics that were selected by the moderator Chris Wallace of Fox. News. In no particular order, they include trump and Biden's records. The Supreme Court nineteen, the economy race and violence in American cities the integrity of the election ninety minutes no commercial breaks that should be interesting James. Carville remains with US James I'm still laughing at. Mitch McConnell, spending a sleepless night quaking in his bed that Schumer and Durban quoted him on a placard today So this will be. Open warfare I'm GONNA show you a part of an interview trump gave to wgn in Chicago. Because there's a reason to discuss the following answer. Early nobody we had a problem. If you look at early people weren't thinking we had a problem Dr found a month and a half later. There was no problem in the CDC is people that have been there for a long time long before me and I I also don't like the fact that. They send out mixed messages. I'll give you an example where a mash bill wear a mask. One point there were saying, don't wear a mess Dr out she said, don't worry I'm everybody was talking about like masks who are bad thing. Then they come like masks of the greatest thing you can do. All these different messages. So. James how. Is he going to run against elements of his own government and how is an answer like that and remember like ninety minute time ninety second time limits at a debate how is that GONNA fly during debate? I don't take the Bob Woodward on February several say necessarily bad I mean. Look he gonNA live much. He's been a breeze I. Take Our love songs and he came to my class two after the two thousand eight election. But I take a little bit issue what he said I think that Biden needs to not make this debate about him that me and Donald Trump and he make it by them and I mean American. People and people already know what they think of trump and if you still trump after two point, eight, two, thousand, eight, hundred, twelve lies if probably not much that Joe, Biden can save. It's GonNa Change your mind. But it p turned around and said look. This is what problem is. This is way too I wanNA to deal with it. I. Think we could do about it I think we can change but I by for Biden's gotTa take every opportunity. He can communicate with the with the American public because audience for this vacant to be astronomical and there's Trump awhile Dr Soza y Y- we just saw him saying something completely contradict what he said I'll take he doesn't care Mitch McConnell doesn't care if he is that they do every day Lindsay Graham does. and. We just keep calling it all and we just gotTa tell people. This is with your your life is relevant to my presidency and how we want to change things making a better in the more. He can do that the more he can make it about them and not him being trump. I think about it. We're GONNA do. Are you of the camp, the debates change any minds. Don't. You know any anybody's would it can do is people have questions about by by they don't have any questions about Donald trump that people completely I'll take what by by do is demonstrate is. Breath. -nology has about the American political system and need. Commitment to really change things and I think he can do that and I don't think there's anything he can say about trump that is gonna change any minds but I think he can solidifies support himself I think he can excite people I think he'd make people feel better and I think he can go can do a really good job and I, I, kind of expected he will in trump set himself up. He's GonNa to greatest debate ever live that he's no such thing. So I just hope that you know by prone Biden focuses on people and doesn't pay attention to all his foolishness live because watch once you do that you know you you you're on the money and you never get out of it. And You know just sent them on just liked grand would saw it. But I I think we gotta really we have real. laserlike focus on people in their lives and hopes and their fears and the things experience and right now it is top on a lot of people and. It's about time I think it would respect someone that that got up an acknowledged top like is the united. States today and their ideas to make last guy good on a very. Personal level and not that's what I'm looking for US Open Bar. James Carville will be talking thanks for coming on with us and staying up with US tonight. Trump hurrying to fill SCOTUS seat ahead of his voter fraud concerns

"If, leader McConnell presses forward. Republican the Republican majority will have stolen too supreme. Court seats for years apart using completely contradictory rationales. McConnell is basically decided the rules don't apply to Republicans even their own rules it's just brute political force. Reaction to senator. Mitch Romney Mitt Romney's decision to support vote on trump's supreme court pick all. But guaranteeing an election year confirmation Democrats had held out hope that enough Republicans might come over and blocked the nomination until after the November third election. But the president is now arguing a full bench is needed to combat the unsubstantiated claims. He has made a voter fraud. We've nine justices. You did that. with the. Unsolicited millions of ballots this ending it's a scam it's a hoax everybody knows at. And the Democrats know better than anybody else. So you're going to need nine justices up there is.

"About the implications here. This is so highly unusual to move at this rapid pace, and if you think back to Robert Bork in the late nineteen eighties or Clarence Thomas or justice cavenaugh, all these justices are nominees in the past that people thought when the nomination happened to would move in a certain direction hearings happened everything changes curveball after curveball, and so this is a tight window in it's hard to say when the Republicans say they have the votes before the hearings, you should be dubious about that as a reporter and is just as anyone watching all of this. Counselor back over to you with a matter of the law. If a new justice is indeed confirmed, sworn in and seated tell the good folks watching exactly how conservative this court will now be is there any comparison in even recent American history starting with the fact that if the Chief Justice John Roberts wants to cross over and vote with the Liberals, they would still get swamped by a five four court. So very conservative. So I think the unifying theme between both of your dual crises today Brian Corona virus in the Supreme Court nominee is kind of you know I really wish they'd rushed corona virus response, medically your unemployment insurance those things but instead the rushing the supreme court nominee through to try and make the Supreme Court of far more conservative. If this nominee is confirmed, it would mean fifteen the nineteen last justices had been appointed by Republican presidents and you know this is not is if it's a conservative jurists who passed away being replaced by another conservative, this is The? Liberal Lion Justice Ginsburg She was a tiny woman, but she had an enormously strong very influential voice. So switching seat means a change in jurisprudence on things like the affordable care act going to be heard that case the week after the presidential election, it's GonNa mean reproductive justice is deeply deeply under threat in Roe versus Wade, and it's and means things like campaign finance restrictions like just simple transparency laws that just say you know tell people did you donate to a particular party? Those may be unconstitutional. So this is a big big deal its nuclear. and Dr Back to Madison back to medicine and our institutions with the CDC tightening these vaccine standards, and we've witnessed the CDC both under attack and willing to be a bit pliable under this president. Something we're not used to our institutions if this holds if they make their standards tougher for bringing a vaccine to market, isn't that good when people hear that the potential customer for this vaccine for public confidence? I think. Absolutely. This is the case where slowing down the president by the organizations that are designed to protect us is exactly what we need. I think both the FDA, as well as the pharmaceutical manufacturers that a vaccine is only going to be effective if people are willing to take it and if the vaccine proves itself to be safe and effective. Are many cases in our history where when we've gotten to the stage passed a phase three trial, we often think about that as the end stage, but there's the post market surveillance stage win a vaccine is approved and is rolled out to the public. We get more information back through our surveillance programs about what happens and what these vaccine makers don't want to have happen. Are wide-scale serious adverse event, and so the FDA is stating quite clearly that they are going to implement tougher standards that have typically been required prior to approving the rollout of this vaccine, and one of those is that the trial continued for two months after the second dose, and that means that there's no way. This will be ready in time for October but it reassures the scientists. It should reassure the public that the best possible vaccine is going to be put out there so that people will feel comfortable taking it. And were tempted to keep reminding our viewers. This is why we have an FDA for health and public safety to clear things exactly like this. No matter how great the Health Exigency. FDA poised to announce tougher standards for a covid-19 vaccine that make it unlikely one will be cleared by Election Day

"The FDA is about to roll out tougher new standards for what they call an emergency authorization of a corona virus vaccine that's coming as soon as this week that could make it a lot harder for a vaccine to come to market to be cleared before Election Day and given that the CDC has shown its willingness to be used as a political tool for this president, it will be interesting to see if this ruling stands

Unredacted Ukraine Documents Reveal Extent of Pentagon's Legal Concerns

"The politics lead now amidst the presidential impeachment involving withheld White House meeting for the President of Ukraine Secretary of State. Mike pompeo cancelled his planned trip to Ukraine bear. He would have met with Ukrainian Presidents Alinsky. The State Department saying Pompeo did so so in order to monitor the violence surrounding Iraqi embassy. This news comes as new reporting from the website just security showing us. What's behind some of those black lines James? In the redacted emails the trump administration was forced to hand over to those requesting it which include warnings from the Pentagon that the hold on military Ukraine rain broke the law and that the decision withhold the aid came right from the top. CNN Sara Murray reports in the face of mornings from the Pentagon on that holding nearly four hundred million dollars in Ukraine could be illegal. A top budget official made it clear. The orders were coming directly from the President Clear Direction from Port Chris to continue to hold Michael Duffy. Atop Office of Management and budget official wrote in an email to Defense Department Comptroller Elaine mccusker on August thirtieth national security focused website just security reviewed the unredacted emails which had previously been released by the trump administration with heavier reductions. The emails reportedly show that weeks. Earlier mccusker flagged concerns that if the hold wasn't lifted soon the Pentagon couldn't guarantee all of the money would reach Ukraine and time. The emails highlight the finger pointing between Owen. Be and the Defense Department over the freeze on Ukraine funds today no MB. Spokesperson said. There was agreement every step of the way between Dod and lawyers who are responsible eligible for working out the details of the hold in line with the president's priorities Defense Department officials disagreed. One said we were always concerned about the ramifications sins of holding the military assistance to Ukraine the new details come as the impeachment proceedings remain in limbo White House. Aides were in touch with Senate majority leader. Mitch McConnell's office over the holidays. But when the Senate returns tomorrow McConnell plans to continue business as usual until Nancy Pelosi officially transmits the articles of impeachment. Each mint your house. Democrats seem to be suggesting they'd prefer never to transmit the articles Democratic lawmakers including Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer are already seizing on these emails pointing to them as evidence that any kind of fair trial in the Senate is going to need to include documents documents and witnesses from the trump administration. Jake all right Sara Murray. Thanks so much and this is how Nancy Pelosi just responded to these new emails on a tweet trump engaged in unprecedented resonated total obstruction of congress hiding these emails all other documents and his top aides from the American people. His excuse was a phony complain about the house process. What's the excuse now? Why won't trump McConnell allow a fair trial? What do you make that argument Asia? What it is something that they're going to really drill down on these unredacted emails? They really do raise questions because you had ownby general counsel has sent a letter to the GAO so Basically saying that that they had held up this money and that the reason why they held up this money that but it didn't really make a big difference. That dod was telling them that there was no risk that this money wouldn't go out but what you see in. These emails is the direct opposite of what will be said that there was a risk that this money was going to be held up and there was a legal concern and this goes to the heart of what kind of Republicans have been saying that this was just people. This was just the deep state. They just disagreed with policy but the concern that we're being raised. Were not about policy. They were about legal issues. People in the Dod thought that this was illegal that they were withholding this money. I and here's this. One unredacted email from August thirtieth of last year from Michael Duffy. He's Office of Management and budget official to Elaine mccusker. She's a Pentagon comptroller. Roller mentions the quote clear direction from Potus President of the United States to continue to hold this obviously flies right in the face of those who are saying. There's nothing meantime president trump to this and. I don't think that many people actually believed that the number of Publicans elected officials the real people people the the the number who think it was a perfect call and there was nothing here is fairly low. The question is again whether that rises to the point point they want him removed. And that's a real open question. I'm not real sure what we're doing at this point. Are we going to transmit the articles of impeachment. Are we going to Redo the thing in the house because as we have more information or they just asking to be in control of the Senate rules and all of that sounds like Gobbledygook. That's what it sounds like to normal people as well and it will continue to sound like that which is y this is sort of stagnant and has been for quite some time and that part matters one of these I would say yes and no right if Democrats keep it very simple which is the president of the United States should tell the truth. Why are you blocking material evidence because every time in the last couple of weeks we've got new information? It undermines the president so it looks like he's using his power or to protect himself. And why won't you let these people come forward and testify now when we went through the house proceedings. Republicans kept saying well. These people don't have direct knowledge. Okay so now now Schumer saying we want people with direct knowledge. This report gives us more information from security. That gives an actually the New York Times even earlier. This week gives us more information of exactly. What kind of direct knowledge these individuals hat and their participation so I think if Democrat now that they're in this phase of negotiating? I'm sure tomorrow is going to be full of lots of bluster on the Senate floor. That'll be great. However I think this gives Schumer and Pelosi some leverage? It's not just about Mitch McConnell. It's about those senators who are vulnerable honorable right that doesn't move those needle move Nina with those enough Republicans. Four Republican senators. What would be needed for anything at the end of the day? Fifty one votes wins. I haven't seen that yet collins and Murkowski who expressed concerns but then they also say we're concerned with the democratic process or in case she said I'm open to waiting on the witnesses until after the case so if they're not willing to get behind Democrats in this push for firsthand witnesses and documents. It's just not going to happen. Would you look like you're about to say yeah. I'm just. I'm just skeptical. That there's enough enthusiasm to on this issue on the issue of witnesses inside a Senate trial among Americans wants to put enough pressure on a couple of senators for them to go. Oh Yeah we're GONNA change the way we do this. I can hardly and buck McConnell. It's very hard to imagine a president venting about a lot of things on twitter today as want quoted a conservative commentator from the NOCCO saying quote. It seems the Democrats have shot themselves in the foot in one one more way and this president is being persecuted over three years with one investigation after another and and that really plays to his base. It's it's an argument to me because I mean things are not clear cut here. We had the impeachment proceeding. And then it's just kind of as Mayor Catherine some points on hold and we're not really sure what's going to happen and the country is divided right like even though some polls have shown that the majority of the country thinks that he did something wrong that the president president did something wrong. They are divided on what happens next And so I think probably what you're having now is a Democrat trying to decide. What are they what type of pressure they can really put on president trump? He was saying that he wanted a trial but in the past few days. He's kind of been hinting that maybe he doesn't care what happens. I think he wants to be vindicated. I I think he's GonNa want some type of trial but it's not clear how much the Democrats are really going to be able to dictate that. Are they putting the Democrats putting enough pressure directly on Susan Collins. Lisa Murkowski Mitt Romney any other vulnerable Republican with ads with democratic grassroots activists. I mean I haven't seen that I agree with you. I haven't seen enough of it. I think there have been some efforts. It was a little bit challenging. I think during the holidays now that we're back in January. I think it'll be a lot easier and again as long as as they keep it simple. I think there is a very fair argument to be made about the facts and the

"Also in our world lead today president trump met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov in the Oval Office. Today behind closed doors. You might remember. The last time trump had a private meeting in the Oval Office with Lavrov may two thousand seventeen sources telling. CNN that the president claimed pressure was often because he just fired the previous FBI director he also shared Kylie classified information with Lavrov the Russian ambassador. CNN's Kylie Atwood reports Russian. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov rob standing shoulder to shoulder with Secretary of state. Mike pompeo today. It's an open secret that we have different views on different things. Laverov sought to distance since Russia from the debunked theory. That Ukraine interfered in the two thousand sixteen election a Russian narrative trumpeted by the president and his allies. So you we would've seen him crane elections in the United States in two thousand sixteen. It has nothing to do with us. That is an issue for two sovereign states for his part. POMPEO did not mention the Ukraine theory but instead stood firm not letting rush off the hook for interference which the US intelligence community overwhelmingly overwhelmingly concluded. They committed shared a plenty of facts to show what happened in the two thousand sixteen election with our Russian counterparts. We don't think there's any mistake about what really transpired there. Now after meetings here at the State Department Foreign Minister Lavrov went over to the White House where he met with President trump for about an hour. Today take it is very noteworthy that the Russians got a White House meeting today because that is the one thing that the Ukrainians had been pushing for Everson's percents presents. That impeachment could cost Democrats the House but some in her caucus do seem concerned a group of Democrats in districts that president trump one were pushing for the president to be censured instead of impeached. And at at least two. Democrats are leaning towards voting against impeachment. Joining me now as a member of the House Judiciary Committee Congresswoman Pramilla Giant Hall of Washington State Congressman. Good to see you as always thanks for joining us. Let me ask you the odds that the Republican led Senate will remove the president from office or not particularly high why not censure ensure president trump instead of impeaching him. Essential motion is probably more likely to pick up some Senate Republican votes and put inefficient black mark next to the president's name now this just isn't about what the Senate will do. This is about upholding our oath to the constitution. And here's the thing. We have a president who is committed the greatest of abuses of uses of power and obstruction of Congress which essentially says that. He's a monarch. He's the dictator. This this is a man who used the oval office to bully and Co worse a foreign ally to interfere in our election. And it isn't just Ukraine. Jake as you know. There's is a pattern of conduct here with this president trying to literally take away our democracy that is a grave threat. This is also a president. Unprecedented precedent it. By the way this didn't happen with Nixon didn't happen with Clinton he is obstructed. Congress at every single stage refused to send his people into testify. If I refused to provide any documents he has said that article two gives him the power to do anything he wants. We cannot allow that to happen. And I I hope that the Republicans in the House and in the Senate understand that we are not here serving our parties. We're here to serve our nation and that it means that we have to look at the uncontested facts that are in front of us the gravity of the situation and they should stand with us to vote. Yes on these articles of impeachment. Do you know of any any house. Republicans who might vote to impeach. Well I am waiting for them to emerge two weeks ago. My former Washington state Senator Slade Gorton in a Republican came out with an op-ed that said Republicans have plenty in front of them to vote to impeach the president. That's what they should do. He broke with his party on the Clinton impeachment. That is the kind of courage we need. We need the patriotism and the courage of the similar to the many foreign service individuals who came and testified before for us. And so. That's I think the most important thing it looks like I lost my earpiece there so okay do you know. Hopefully you'll be able to get it and and there you go again okay. Democratic sources tell C. N. That was a point of contention in your party party. Ultimately it was not included as an article of impeachment. Do you think it should have been included. I think it was a point of contention. I will tell you that these two articles there are lots of different views here and we looked at all of the views. The most important thing to us on the Judiciary Committee as we had many discussions with the pattern of conduct. That was found around in the Muller Report In the Mueller investigation that we had a way to present that into these articles and both articles on abuse of power hour and on obstruction of Congress. Have that built into it. There are a couple of lines each article that talks about that pattern of conduct because as terrible as what what happened in the Miller report was this is actually wild. Donald trump is president so Ukraine was so much more in different ways. But had we not had the Muller Investigation Nation. I'm I'm not sure we would be at this point. So that was incredibly important that pattern of conduct and we have included those in these articles of impeachment. And I think that's what most most of us were very concerned about converse. I wanted to get your reaction as a member of the House Judiciary Committee to Attorney General Bill Bar today saying that the FBI may have acted acted in bad faith by opening the Russia investigation. And saying that the trump campaign was spied on despite what the Inspector General report actually really status. Ed which is neither of those things bill bar is a sham. As an attorney general he should not be in that position. He is supposed to be advocating waiting for the country. He's not supposed to be the president's personal lawyer to to criticize his own attorney general or contradict his own attorney general. It shows US exactly his true colors. He's never going to stand up for the country he's only going to stand up for a corrupt president who is abused his office and obstructed Congress. And I think bill ars should not be the attorney general. That should be for somebody who is dedicated to the law of the country not to be the the president's personal attorney Democratic congresswoman up from a proprietary formula jay-paul of Washington state. "But what we wanted to hear was this full-throated? I know how important it says I'm going to put that report out there, you know, barring some kind of legal problem that you don't want to reveal some evidence or something, and we didn't hear it like that it was much more bag as you said about what he might put out there. So that's the most concerning thing as we see more and more indictments tumbling are way more things leaking out. We want to know exactly what happened. The other thing. Dad, I was troubled by some of the answers on immigration. I'd say his answers on criminal Justice reform, given his past views when he was attorney general that was a good discussion. He had with Senator Booker. But then I asked a question, I think you would be interested in as the daughter reporter. I asked him. Well, I'd asked Senator sessions this would you put reporters in jail for doing their jobs? That's all I that. Was it simple. And there was a longest pas I could remember in a long time. And then he kind of said, well it after low there might be some cases. So that was also concerning because of the things the president has been saying about journalists says, you know, and going after media organizations and individual reporters that the long pause that you elicited from him. They're drained the color out of every face in the newsroom at my office. When that happened today that was itself and alarming moment Senator club. Remember, the Senate Judiciary committee? Thank you so much for being here. Show when you are ready to talk about whether or not you are in fact going to declare that you are forming an exploratory committee to run for president. You have to do it here. Okay. I will remember that diplomatic. I'll be right back. Last week. The president tried giving out candy to members of congress when they met to discuss the shutdown that didn't work today. He got off his wallet and invited a group of democratic lawmakers for lunch offering up a full meal. This time guest list was a little Hanky though, the only Democrats invited were all relatively new to congress. They're all relatively speaking. Moderates. I think the idea was that if you flattered these Democrats enough if you fed them, right? They might break ranks with Nancy Pelosi and decide on their own to make their own deal with President Trump for his Mexican border wall. Nice plan plan meet Pelosi. Here's the press today on that lunch meeting, quote, the White House ran quickly into the limits of trying to bypass speaker Nancy Pelosi in shutdown negotiations when rank and file House Democrats all declined an invitation to lunch on Tuesday with president. Donald Trump every single one of those Democrats invited to that meeting at the White House today refused to go there to meet with the president turns out, it takes more than free sandwiches for Democrats to break from Nancy Pelosi's leadership in the house with Democrats holding the line with their unified refusal to buy the president this wall of that. He said Mexico would pay for the president does appear to be running out of options to get himself out of this. I mean, there's always ice cream. There's always beer. But I think it's not gonna work on his terms. Watch this space. Democratic Senator Kirsten gillibrand announced tonight. She's forming an exploratory committee and running for president. She announced that tonight. She will be our guest tomorrow here on set tomorrow night at nine pm eastern Senator Kirsten gillibrand now formerly running for president very exciting. That does it for us tonight. We will see you again, then the show. Weeknights at nine eastern on MSNBC. Hey, it's Chris Hayes from MSNBC every day. It's called why is this happening and the whole idea behind it is to get to the root of the things that we see out every day. They're driven by big ideas. Each week. I sit down with a person uniquely suited to explain why this is happening. New episodes of why is this happening every Tuesday? Listen for free wherever you get your podcasts.

"Creating a new climate in terms of the way, both Democrats and Republicans are thinking about the urgency of this situation when it comes to the president in Russia. Well, I think it is creating a new climate. There's just so much, and it all seems to be woven into a web related to Putin's manipulation of our own government into Trump's acquiescence and boot boot licking of whatever Putin seems to want and in terms of the Muller investigation because of the ties between Putin. Dera pasta, Manafort and Kalinic, so all of this seems to be part parts of one large piece, and it is changing people's minds here in Washington. I think that's absolutely right. And Senator to that end. Do you think that the issue of the Muller investigation is being handled adequately is being handled in a way that reassures you at all when it comes to the nomination of William bar to be the next attorney general? Well, I have a lot of faith in Muller. I don't have much faith in bar. I've come out against him getting this job why? Because when you have a president like Donald Trump who has so little respect for the rule of law. So little respect for the Justice department as a rule of law body and seems to want to manipulate Justice to help him in hurt his friends, you need an attorney general who unequivocally will state certain things and bar fudge them. All it sounded nice. What he said. But. There are a lot of loopholes. And so for instance, he says he's for openness and he's four transparency. He didn't answer the question directly will you allow the entire Muller record to be made public to the congress and the American public or when he says, I believe Muller should go forward. Well, that's not enough with a Trump presidency. You have to ask him and get a yes answer. Will you not interfere in any way with the Mahler investigation? So I'm worried about bar. I think Trump didn't choose him. Just because he's a fine lawyer. I think he chose him because of his views on presidential power. And I think that given who Trump is that bar in less bore unequivocally unequivocally with no loopholes answers, the kind of questions, I just mentioned he shouldn't be attorney general I'll vote against him. Shame. I have one other one other question. I want to ask you, which is about the shutdown. Can you stick with us for just one moment? We'll come back and talk about that right shutdown. It's about to enter day. Twenty six Chuck Schumer is the leader of the Democrats in the Senate intimately involved in this fight. Stay with us. We'll be back with Senator Schumer right after this. Joining us. Once again is Senator Chuck Schumer. He's the leader of the Democrats in the Senator in the Senate Senator thank you very much for being with us. Sure. I wanted to ask you about where things stand with the shutdown. Obviously we are heading out a day twenty-five today. Twenty six this is by far the longest government shutdown in history. The pain is real ready for federal government workers. And it's starting to have a ripple effect across lots of different sectors of the country and our economy. Do you have any sense of how this is going to end if you were betting on how this would end? How would you bet? Well, I'll tell you this the home that this is being done. That's being done to people is just awful in so many different ways. People can't get their medicines who were sick. Because of if data and even DA restrictions amid a fire dispatcher who's kicked out of his own home. He's rented because he was going to move into a house where he had signed up for mortgage, but he can't get approval for the mortgage story after. Story after story. It's mounting. And what we're finding is. Our Republican colleagues are feeling the heat. I think we made we've made it clear that this Trump shut down the American people by two and three to one margin blame Trump and not the Democrats. What's very interesting here is even some Republicans who are for the wall. Don't want the government shutdown over the wall. A Quinnipiac poll very interesting thirty nine percent of Republicans. That's how I said Trump's shouldn't sat down the government over the wall. So are Republicans are feeling the heat Trump's some, but he seems impervious to people's pain, which is just disgusting..

"Because the first part of it is this part. See it's a little thinner. This is a narrative from an FBI agent who works at the special counsel's office, and it is a narrative. So theoretically, we should be able to read it. But all the good parts of it are redacted. Here's here's a typical page. This is from page nineteen of the declaration of the FBI agent. It says Manafort was asked in the grand jury redacted Manafort explained that he had not told redacted metaphor was then asked what redacted after a lunch break, comma, Manafort redacted. Oh, now, I see. Right. So this technically is a narrative declaration from an FBI agent explaining all the things that Manafort has done wrong in terms of lying to prosecutors. But the whole thing is like that they also attached to that declaration, four hundred six factual exhibits laying out their evidence that Manafort told them all these lies, and so that's the other big fat part of this. This is the declaration these are the exhibits, and again when this landed on my desk today, I was like holy whack-a-mole. How am I gonna get through all of these exhibits and time for so time given everything else that's going on in the world with all these gigantic news earthquakes, watch this magic trick turns out you can pull off all of this all of it. Every single one of these pages is either a black box or just the word redacted absolutely nothing in the vast majority of the violent. It's all completely blacked out the few remaining pages the last thin remaining pages that remain in the stack. It's basically. Handful of Bank records that are pretty undecipherable. A whole bunch of pages of big black boxes with nothing on them except of Bank letterhead and a date. It's page after page that looked like that. There are a couple of pages where Manafort lays out, we'll prosecutors lay out what Manafort offered them in terms of his his proffers his initial cooperation proposal. But most of that is stuff that has already appeared in other court filings. So what's important about this? Big fat unreadable Manafort court filing today, it's really big and fat. And it's unreasonable. And so the takeaway here from this criminal case involving the president's campaign chair is that boy there is still a lot blacked out. There is still a lot that we don't know about the criminal case against the president's campaign chairman, boy is this still a live issue in the courts and one of the as yet unexplained threads in this criminal case is the allegation from prosecutors that the president's campaign chairman was sharing internal polling data from the Trump campaign with a guy who was associated with Russian intelligence who had also served as manafort's intermediary with a Russian oligarch named Oleg Dera Pasqua for some reason that same Russian oligarch Oleg der Pasco was also offered private briefings on.

"I mean think about it think about that report from the Washington Post what the practical implications are of that from Russia's perspective from Putin's perspective. I mean, Trump may have taken confiscated and destroyed his own American interpreters notes from his Putin meetings. But there's no reason to think that Putin did the same thing. Right. I mean. He took notes to the there's a guy taking notes right there next to Putin. I mean, whether it's the Russian government's notes on these meetings between Putin and Trump or whether they recorded those meetings as some former senior officials have suggested Russia had a habit of doing whether it's just not so recordings or whatever. Russia and Putin knows the truth about what happened in those one on one meetings between Trump and Putin. And if they didn't know it before now, thanks to the Washington Post Russia knows that the truth of what happened in those one on one meetings between Trump and boot. And that's something that the American president that that Trump has desperately been trying to keep from public view, and even from the view of other officials in his own administration. So Russia now knows that would ever happen in those meetings. Trump is desperate to keep it secret. And they undoubtedly have a record of the truth of what happened in those meetings. That's like that's like blackmail in a bottle. Right. Think about it. Whatever happened which in Trump and Putin, and those meetings Russia knows Russia has a record of it. And now they've got that two-wheeled against him case they ever need to give his his leash and other little tug. And then on top of that today. Just in case the US and Europe, we're not back on their heels enough with what appears increasingly to be the capture of the US president by foreign adversary and him wiring NATO, Russia's greatest adversary on earth to explode of its own accord. I mean today on top of that the British government edged to the precipice and started to fall off in a free fall that appears increasingly destined to take much of organized western Europe with it. "The way matters show. We at nine eastern on MSNBC. Senator Chuck Schumer, the leader of the Democrats in the US Senate is going to be joining us live here in just a moment. Very happy to have him here. Especially on such a big day a typical day in the news cycle. I tend to I think it's sort of akin to the weather on any given day. Just like a naturally occurring range of things that might happen on any given day at any given time of year, depending on where you live, right, depending on the general constraints of the climate in which you're operating so Newsday's there's sort of like that, you know, some days the sunshine some days, it snows some days there's black ice. Oh, there's debilitating storms that bring everything to a halt whose days are like the weather. Today was a stormy day in the news cycle, which is something. We are getting used to in this political climate that surrounds this this unsettling presidency. But today today was not just like a normal. Stormy day in the news in the Trump era today was like a whole bunch of storm stacked up one after the other. Plus there were ten earthquakes. It's like an extra analogy to what we usually think of as the realm of things can that can affect the news cycle in any one day. Today was just nuts. It started very late last night. Actually with New York Times reporting that President Trump repeatedly within the last year has told administration officials that he wants to destroy NATO that he wants to pull the United States out of NATO, the North American treaty alliance which is North Atlantic Treaty lines such as the the.

"Of the mortgage market is so much safer here than it is globally actually which is strange to say after such a crisis but the structure with people don't pay attention to sometimes well what people is just the type of loan right at thirty you're amortizing mortgage means that you don't have to refinance that mortgage like a commercial loan that's a ten year loan and then you have to refinance it in other countries their interest there floating rate and they have to be refinanced so if interest rates go up the bar where can then you know how trouble meeting their requirements or they'll have to at the end of the term refinance it we don't have those issues so what i think people have lost sight of is relative to other debt markets the housing market is actually structurally one of the safest and without the excesses that we created before i feel like the house the the housing market or the financing for the housing market really should have a safer kind of floor than other markets you gotta run but thank you so much appreciate your time and chief investment officer at gnc investment corp go back to washington check on world and national news headlines you've got nathan hager he hari carol thanks gene hassle appears to be on track now to win senate confirmation to be the next director of the cia democrats mark warner and heidi heitkamp dow say they will vote yes ahead of tomorrow's confirmation vote in the senate intelligence committee now republican john mccain said hassles failure to call torture immoral during her confirmation hearing was disqualifying and that led a white house aide to say mccain's opposition didn't matter because he was dying anyway person who said that should apologize and should apologize public senate majority leader mitch mcconnell after a republican meeting on capitol hill today with president trump mcconnell says the aids comment did not come up during that get together it's primary day in four more states in this midterm election cycle one of them is pennsylvania state president trump narrowly won in two thousand sixteen but now has a new congressional map and a lot more female male candidates centers that if democrats can't do well in pennsylvania that that's going to be really impossible them for them to potentially get a house majority that any kind of significant gains in congress essentially pennsylvania which is usually a battleground state in the presidential is becoming kind of bellwether.
