"Reasonable to have fear then so i think i think it's i think it's a fair fear to have at a moment like that but i also think it needs to be said by the media which they won't that it was not a violent group of people and the fact that a woman was shot and killed by a cop does not make the group violent. She would she didn't have her hands around the neck of a cop. She wasn't going for his gun. She was not according to anything. I've heard she was not threatening him or anyone else. Her very presence is not a threat because if it was then when the protesters took the hart building during the cavenaugh hearings they would have shot them to kill. Remember when senators were getting.

"Buddies lost almost forty pounds on the soda. Now fat is he is that means might mean he just took a poop. But i mean still you think about it. Ramon if we're to be honest with somebody gets to be that fat. They don't have a good decision making process so in order to lose weight you have to just you have to not just not eat bad foods you have to eat less need better and move around sleep more drink last drink more water which means you have to replace bad decisions with good seasons which sounds easy for people that make good decisions for my wife. That's you know that comes naturally. She often says which is why she's my neighbor. It's a lot harder for you than it is me talking about me. She says it's a lot harder for you than it is me because i don't ever at one o'clock in the afternoon think to myself. I had a damn good show today. I'm going to go eat a bucket of fried chicken. French fries start with a bourbon and drink a six pack of beer. She said i don't. That's not if i have a great day. I don't wish and then wash it down with the combo you know that's not. Do they still have. Lakeside country club. is it lakeside country. They still have that just a quick story in an are now we got. We got work to do. But just a quick story i have had. I lived such a blessed life. So neil carlson who was my campaign. campaign chairman campaign manager. Neil carlson was a west point graduate. He served in bosnia. he'd gone to fort hood. He was the right hand man. Attache decamp to the head of fort hood. He wrote my speeches and ran my campaign and his father jack. Carlson was one of the three top executives at cisco foods the founder of cisco foods was still alive at the time. He was late eighties. Maybe even early nineties name was john ball. John ball had walked to houston from waco in. I think nineteen thirty four. He started the world's largest food company food provider right here in houston from scratch when the gaza an amazing story and he wanted to meet me and support me and endorse me for mayor and he warned me that lakeside country club which kind of old country club. I think it's it's like memorial and say dairy ashford. I don't know somewhere around there but we had this big heavy lunch. Because he was he was still more like a forties fifties businessman. You have a big heavy lunch and we had this big heavy lunch in then you have to have the kabul and so it was a frozen ice cream surrounded by a chocolate bar like dairy queen but with with the higher quality in the chocolate ball. Had these big just pecan chunks in there and that was your dessert at the end. Who man let me tell you something. That was an experience. I don't know if lakeside country club still there. It's probably right about in that area. A what is that st. No is it well. Chris is it well cross thousand further out than that anyway at that area that was just walloped by the last flood. So is it so there. Does it say still there see if they got the picabo. Yeah you can't are you serious. You can't get analyst. Remember holy smokes okay. All right okay. Yeah all right run. You did not like the troy nehls interview. I understand go ahead. You know michael. It's been it's been a it's been a Amazing journey here. These guys are are telling the world that the protesters the peaceful protesters were violent. And you know. I'm tired of hearing it. I'm tired of hearing the narrative even our own people are telling us and when's it gonna stop win. When is our side gonna come together and and and call it like it is. These people are upset. that's it they're not violent or not burning You know. I don't know where to go from here. Well let me let me i don't disagree with you on. I believe that you're right. And i have made this case and i don't think very many people have publicly If you look at what happened smashing a few windows is not in the grand scheme of things. The same as shooting a congressman or or or whatever else knowing what we know now i don't believe there was a significant physical threat to anyone involved including nancy pelosi and any democrat. I don't how however let let me say this. I i do. I let me ask you to consider this run. Because i have thought about this at that moment. They didn't know what was happening. They knew that a group of people had had been told that they knew that those people were at that point against the wishes of law enforcement understood. I you know listen When i was growing up in orange at oh. I orange baptist church. We did a drill one week because we'd been told there was a group that was coming to our church. The next week it was like a westboro baptist church it might have been westborough. Budgeters was a group of people that would come into your church. We were told as a teenager. It was all very dramatic stuff that come into your church and they start running down the owls until somebody got up and punched him and then they would sue the church and the church would end up having to settle with them and that's how they made money. They would like gypsies so it wasn't that they were coming in and killing anyone. It was that you didn't know why they had done what they were doing when they were coming in. It's always a much easier to learn that people in a certain situation were peaceful. Which i believe they were but in fairness. I don't think that anybody had any reason to know that. At the time a specially when it was a violation to keep going in we can argue over whether officer said here. Y'all can go in here But i think there comes a point when you lock the doors and you say stay out and people and i've seen footage are trying to to ram the door to get in. You don't know if they're ramming the door to get in to kill you are their ramming the door to get in and far on nancy pelosi's desk which is quite comical. But are you really going to wait and see. Should you have to wait. And say i think it is.

"Love congressman troy. Nehls is our guest cars. Lots of emails coming in the number one question being. Can you explain again. I'm not sure. I fully understand exactly what was happening when you realized that a mob of people had entered the capital and then it wasn't business as usual all the way up to the point that there are protesters at the door. Can you explain that again. What we're in we're in session. Congress is in session and we don't have television on the house more so the only information we were really able to receive those what they were telling us. I did get some text messages from family members and others that said. Can you believe what's happening outside. And and then all of a sudden. I received a text message from some of said. Hey they're inside the capitol building. Well i didn't know to the extent or how you know. Many people who are intense was We were just getting the information from the individuals off from the capitol hill. Police that were telling us. Hey listen we're you're locked inside here. The doors being secured. Please sit down where you are. F you know reach underneath your chair and get your gas mask of there before that i believe during orientation i think they told us about how i remember of of oprah winfrey you get a gas mask and you get my. Who would've ever thought i'm there for three days and all of a sudden they're gonna tell me. Get my gas nancy. Put it on. No no i. I held it in my hand. It was in a bag. And i don't even think i opened the toward the plastic opted out is all i believe it is so you probably won't gas masks in the army before i think i would freak out and not be able to breathe. Well i i figured my mask that i wear for colon would probably suffice and take care of you. Know 'cause they were. They were deploying tear gas. But i guess. I would have put it on if they would've reached the door. Because then you'll probably have here gas inside the chamber but no i did not like what do you think they would have done if they had breached the door. Do you think they intend to. I don't know Unfortunately i that shock. That was fired. That took that that knife Was you know back there towards the speakers area. I didn't see that shot. go off. No sir no sir that that did not go off inside the house floor. It took place down. Where the speaker's office as an apprentice happened outside the door you were behind a number of people that they thought true. Okay look no sir not true at all now that did not take place or we'll show you don't know if that's a protester our law enforcement who's fired at that is correct at his right I didn't know I did hear you know different things like shooting off. Gas canisters some loud noises. And i guess. I could just call it a moist that would appear to either be a gunshot or them on fire in a gas canister but My focus really was those the two doors and that's where i remained As long as i could To try to keep these individuals from breaching the door it was just having conversation with them. But as i stated earlier they were very very upset. and i said this is not the way we should be conducted ourselves to me. It was on american idol. I mean we can agree on things and and be totally completely on the opposite side that this is not the way we should be having our business. Did they say why they were angry. Walk there was one gentleman back there. And he said that i lost four hundred something. I'm paraphrasing here. Michael now four hundred thousand dollars now. I didn't have time to to try to you. Know therapy session here and figure out. What's a four hundred thousand dollars about. Why did you use it. Maybe he was a businessman. Maybe it was related to covid. Maybe it wasn't hell. I know but There was a gentleman in their talked about losing four thousand dollars and and i just think he's individuals wanted their voices to be heard you could. You could see the anger and the way they spoke it and in their eyes and they were videoing me. I mean the headphones walk. So i hope the individual that young man that i was talking to he could have been in his mid twenty. I hope one day. I could meet with him. I would actually like to meet with him and sit across the table and have a conversation with you and find out exactly what caused you to do this to to breach the police long go into the capital and they committed some criminal mischief in their michael. They were breaking windows and and doing things they shouldn't be doing. And and this just seems to be the norm today and it's been this way for months you know whether it's seattle whether it's baltimore weather on our nation's capital six months ago michael. It seems like if we can't agree on something. Well let's just start demonstrating and say we're going to go out and do something peacefully. And then the hell with the peaceful protest. Let's just start but you know Jumping over barricades assaulting police officers and just walk into the nation's capital. So it it. It's ridiculous it seems to be the norm you occupy and take over city streets in seattle and you burn down. Buildings loot private businesses burned down churches. This is seems to be the norm today and we have to stop. We have to stop this because it's dangerous and unamerican. Where was your staff during the time. This is going on in communication with them. Iphone was my jacket off and my phone was in my my suit coat. So i wasn't really able to communicate with those individuals at all until after i put my jacket back on. And and then was told to your. Finally you are leaving built This chamber so listen michael. I appreciate this. But i got a job on this airplane. I won't get home. God bless you. God bless you and your listeners. It congressman troy. Nehls back to your call. Seven one three two one two five eight seven four caleb europe i good morning sir i was I'm i'm having a hard time having really any sympathy for the the republican politicians. That are just running around telling everybody how dangerous and un-american the last few days are in my. When i hear that my my first thought is men rand. Paul's been almost killed twice this year. Steve scalise was shot. David dohrn dies on the pavement. And i remember the interview you had with the bar owner. You're interviewing him. Live as there was riots going on and he was afraid for his life and saying. Hey i'm gonna. I'm gonna stick this out and i'm going to fight. Not just everybody running around saying how un-american and is the one time a little bit of pushback comes that the democrats don't like i mean at what point why can't our politicians run and say and remind everybody else all the other violence that happened over the last year why do we always stand up and denounce everything. We can't point the finger right back and say man. You guys are surprised this happened. You guys have been doing this all year. Because the establishment is.

"We're talking to new. Congressman troy nehls congressman. Let's go back to wednesday when the crowd comes in. How did y'all realize what was going on well when when they rushed in plainclothes personnel. Obviously they approached speaker pelosi immediately. You know sitting in her chair and they took her out that back hallway in the speakers area and the uniform personnel. Which were there were several. They were there to secure and lock all the doors and again there are so many different doors on the house floor and there are even more in the gallery so it took several personnel and so they started coordinating and secure in those stores so in announcement was made by one of the capitol police that all the members of congress. Just please stay where you are and sit down if you can and just remained home Admitted or so later is when in another announcement was made where they said that the the capitol building has been breached in their are individuals. Inside the you know the rotunda so we weren't too. We were not allowed to leave. Obviously and it was pretty much a lockdown Shortly thereafter. they told us to reach up underneath our seats. And that's where i've gas masks. And and they said that. The capitol hill police they are dispensing gas tear. Gas into some of these crowds of these groups have individuals inside the capitol building to get them to disperse. And that's when you know. I was over there at that back door and and that's the position. I was maintaining They they made the announcement that they're they're taking all the members of congress out another back hallway to a safe and secure location and they told me they said sir. You have to leave. And i said i'm not leaving. I said i'm staying right here. At the capitol hill police here. These are my brothers and sisters and it wasn't for me to try to do something special here it was just. It was my natural instinct. Michael to go in and say well. I'm gonna stay right here. Because i tell you that the doors these individuals wanted to answer that that change in my. They were very very angry. Boars were almost shaky but when they started breaking the glass on you know on the door not able to push the doors where the doors locked or was it. Purely based on the furniture that had been placed behind it. Well the doors are locked. I you know and made. I didn't examined the doors to see if they have. From like some type of poles or rods that extend into the floor and up into the framing of the doorway but They they remained. Secure that i tell you they were shaking. I mean they're they're doing everything they could. How wall street. How long was it. The case you know they. They broke out the glass. And y'all are talking through the glass. How long was it before. They were dispersed Well while they were still at that Door after i try to negotiator diffuse the situation finally some all couple more of the capitol police said sir. You really have to go you. You cannot remain any longer you and one other gentleman you only ones and you really have to lead the floor And at that point. In time i felt okay. I i'm going to comply In so they. Those protesters remained at the door When i was taken back out of the out of the house floor. And where did you go. Well we all site to another location away. From the capital. There was another building And that's where all of the members of congress congregated Probably for the next couple of hours. what's interesting. It was very close to where my offices. So i was able to help. I'm into my office for the next few hours. Just wait to see things. You know settling interesting. How far of a distance is it from where they entered the building to the door that you were behind. How much time in between that would you guess if you weren't sprinting. But you're moving at a rapid walk not. I can't say for certain what door they entered to get into the capital. But i do know that they did end up breaching the senate chain. That's where they went. I in from the senate side to the house side. I would probably say that's maybe a hundred yards maybe a football field and it's a straight shot you can see the main doors really going into the senate size as well as the house side. So it didn't it wouldn't take a land navigation expert realize. Just walk down this main hallway. And then you'll be into the house of representatives so it's really easy for them to get to but They ended up reaching the senate side. And you can see some of these individuals shading in the vice president's chair but they were never able to branch out of the house of representatives yourself at some point that i should go back to law enforcement because the whole lot safer than lawmaking no but i did after i would have to reflecting on this and thinking this is what day three day four maybe a member of congress and and i just. It was a sad day for american michael. It really walk. But i do. I do. I've been doing a lot of walking. I do a lot of walking to learn and what we do. Is we take the tunnel system. I'm i'm in the longworth building. In quite honestly i never have to go above ground. I can enter my office and walk down a flight of stairs getting this tunnel system the rayburn building and the canon building most other members of congress and and i can go right to capitol in and cast my vote and use the tunnel systems. All right back to my office so You really don't ever have to be above ground. What is the thing that has surprised you about the facility. That is the capital that you did not already know. Is it larger smaller older more rickety. I mean what what what about. It has surprised you well when you watch the state of the union and you look. I thought that maybe the house chamber and how small whatever term you want to use the chamber of the floor would be a lot larger than well But it is such a beautiful building and there is an enormous amount of history. I could spend the next few weeks just walking through the different areas along capitol building and is trying to understand the different history of the different statues and and and the stories behind. I mean just an incredible incredible place In it is truly an honor. It is truly an honor to represent texas's twenty second constricting washington. Pretty heady stuff. Can you hold for just a moment. Sure congressman troy nells is guest for those of you outside the greater houston area. This is the congressional seat that pete olson occupied for a number of years Tom delay before that it's southwest. Houston so it's fort bend county and it goes all the way down to manville. And and.

This is here and now as the world processes what happened yesterday at the U. S Capitol this morning, former Attorney General William Bar called President Trump's conduct of betrayal of his office and his supporters. Boer, who had been one of Trump's most loyal supporters, said that orchestrating a mob to pressure Congress is inexcusable. Congressman Mark Wain Mullen, a Republican from Oklahoma joins us now he was inside the Capitol building yesterday. Congressman. Welcome back to here And now. Thank you having on again, Peter. Sure. And I know you were on the floor of the chamber yesterday, helping to barricade the doors from the mob. On the other side that must have been Terrifying. What was going through your mind? Well, I mean, listen, Troy Nehls. He's a sheriff from, uh, from Texas who is a newly elected member. Hey, was there with me and the Capitol Police sergeant arms agenda funnel or a phenomenal job. And we both felt like we could be an asset. And so we We were prepared to help help help those guys just as much as they were helped. And they were gonna defend us. As I way I look at it. Their families is just as important to them as my family is to me. Well, and I understand you also saw the woman who died. Get shot inside the Capitol. Tell us what you saw. Well, we were We were in close proximity. We were at the front door. That was where we were defending, and that they agitators. The I don't know if you want to call him protesters or not, but it from the riders. They had tried to go around the back. At the same time. We had thought shots were fired at the front of us because the glass is broken. At first, it did sound like shots were fired. And while that was going on, we heard glass break in the back, and that's when we knew that there was a lot more trying to go around behind it. And there's a tenant there that had to make a decision. And as uh unfortunately young lady had reached the door by coming through the glass. Hey, had to make a life changing decision, not just for him, but for her family Also, and from what you saw Congressman was the shooting justified. I I believe so because what happened at that point is that crowd dispersed and there were still a lot of members and a lot of staff. That was that was on the floor. And end the Capitol police and the sergeant arms had gave her multiple warnings to stand down to stand down, stand down and she kept coming. And if she would have made it through, everybody else is going to come through. And then it was going to get it was the situation could have been much, much worse. Impossible, a lot more lives lost. So with some hours to reflect on this. What is your response to the security failure at the Capitol? Well, what questions do you need answered about how I wouldn't call it a security failure. I think Capitol police and the sergeant was did the best they could with what they had. They were outnumbered, and there was a situation. A lot of people have to make a decision. Are you really gonna will use lethal force? On us is an expression of the U. S capitol. And I think our men and women and law enforcement showed a great restraint and in a situation did escalate out of hand. But I wouldn't call it a failure because afterwards, Peter, I went down to the triage center. And there was a there was more than 25. There could have been 25 or 50, law enforcement officers and their men and women somewhere Capitol police somewhere with the D. C. Police and they were beat up they had they had been hit with clubs. There was one young man that I doubt if he actually keeps his eye. He was in surgery yesterday. His I was literally outside of the socket. And and they were willing to fight and defend. I think they did. The best they could. With the resource is they had So here's the elephant lurking in this room that I know you said on ABC s Good Morning America today that you disagreed with your colleague, Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney and other Republicans, Frankly, who said that the president Lit the flame of this insurrection and I want I do want to hear from you on that. But first, let's hear the president's words to his supporters. Just before they stormed the capital. We're gonna walk down to the Capitol. And we're gonna cheer on our brave.
