"Years sports netting. Basically, gaudreau and chuck out cadre Uber dope and Uighur in. And a lot of people believe that makes them stronger. The sports betting sites they seem to think that the flames have as good a chance as almost anyone of winning the Stanley Cup by my caution is always this. You know, hockey is the ultimate team sport. And chemistry is so critical that top line that I was referencing in Calgary. They had fantastic chemistry. They found each other on the ice. It just clicked. And so these new pieces, at least in the early stage of training camp, weren't clicking nearly as well. So Calgary is one of those teams that I think is going to improve as the season moves along. They might not be great right out of the gate, but they have some interesting pieces and then it will just be a matter of how it all comes together. And aside from the avalanche oilers and flames, so I think are generally considered the three best teams in the west. What team from the west do you think might surprise us this season and push for a conference championship? So I do think that there is a little bit of a drop off to the next tier. I actually saw Vegas playing that first game of the season against Los Angeles. And they look really good. They look fast. Jack I call looks motivated and strong on his skates and healthy. I would sleep on Vegas. I just think that their personnel is good, great defense, excellent, and they're playing with speed early on. So I like them, but Minnesota, you know, if Mark Andre fleury has another strong season and capris off is turned into one of the more dynamic stars in the league, super relevant. There's a lot to like about Minnesota if I had to pick one teeth outside of the top three that I think the challenge the top three, it would be the wild. Okay, coming up. We take a look at a very stacked Eastern Conference and Eric gives us his way too early, Stanley Cup finals prediction. Shantaram is the new original series from Apple TV plus. All right, Eric, let's move over to the Eastern Conference where there seem to be a lot of really good teams this year. Starting with the Tampa Bay lightning. This is a team that made their third straight run to the Stanley Cup finals last season and fell just short of a third straight Stanley Cup. They lost a couple of key players in Andre plot and Ryan mcdonagh, but they kept their nucleus of superstars. Eric does this team have what it takes to run it back one more time, or is this the season where the lightning will officially age out? Yeah, no, I don't think so. You know, like if you look at that group, you know, vasilevskiy still in his prime had been still in his prime, you know, kucherov is an outstanding player who's had lots and lots of injury issues in the last couple of years, but looks healthy right now. Braid point and other guy that's really been troubled by injuries looks healthy. The oldest of the group is Steven stamkos, one of the fittest athletes I've ever come across. And he was able to stay healthy last year. So if you look at that nucleus, it's excellent. You know, they've always done a really good job of managing the salary cap, moving out the players that kind of price themselves out and replacing them with players that are interested in trying to go there and win a championship and we'll sign contracts at a discount in order to do so. So their pieces are excellent. And it sounds like they're very motivated to keep winning. But I think that what you'll find with Tampa Bay is like a lot of teams that are sort of almost dynasty type teams as they understand what you need to get to the playoffs and then what you need to win in the class. So I think that they will pace themselves a little bit and I think that they'll be rounding into form when the playoffs arrive and then depending on the health of those players, you can't look past them. They're going to be a contender for at least three more seasons with this group that they've got. Well, speaking of almost dynasty type teams, the Pittsburgh penguins are also trying to run it back one more time this season. After some contract questions, they ultimately did keep their three man superstar trio of Sidney Crosby evgeni malkin and crystal Tang together. But Eric, this team has not gotten out of the first round of the playoffs in four seasons now. Where do you come down on the Pittsburgh penguins? Do they have the right mix of experience and youth to contend or do you think they're championship ship has held? Well, to me, there's one player there that is the key to everything and that's of gaining mall. And the reason I say that is because he's had catastrophic issues with his knee. And there were times watching him in the second half last year where he looked like the old FDA model. So big, strong skill, he could dominate games and dominate ships. He didn't even break strike. He skated right into it. Perfectly. Off the dasher board onto the tape. And I want to see what a summer of rest and recovery and working out has done from all because if he can come back and play at high level, I think Sidney Crosby is still at an elite level. And in crystal, his skill set, even at his advanced age, he is still someone that can play 25 minutes and those three guys are if they can play at the level that they have in the past and then cancel is a good piece, rust is a good piece of defense. Okay. And Tristan jarry last year looked like a very good NHL goaltender. So I can't place them in that top category of elite teams, but the one thing that we've learned about the playoffs is that often experience is it can be the decisive difference maker in any series. And you just never thought against Sydney Crosby. So of course they have a chance. So while the penguins and lightning, you could say are trying to hang on to past playoff glory. The Toronto Maple Leafs are just trying to create any sort of playoff glory of their own. This is one of the most talented teams in the league, but they just keep crashing and burning in the playoffs. And they famously have not won a playoff series since 2004. Eric, tell us about this team's off season moves and how you see them doing this year. Well, there are 12 forwards are really excellent. And Matthews is superstar in the lead niche market as a star in the league, John Tavares is getting on in years, but it's still a very viable above average NHL there. I
Crosby starts 18th season with a bang, Pens top Coyotes 6-2
"The penguins opened their new season with a 6 two blowout win over Arizona Cindy Crosby opened the scoring just one 22 in and Pittsburgh led three nothing less than four minutes later We know that with each game we got to get better but I don't have a really good start You know I got the lead and good to get a first one Jason Zucker Jake gentle evgeny malkin Brian rush and kasperi kapanen also scored for the penguins which outshot Arizona 53 to 28 Tristan jarry made 26 saves Nick Ritchie had both goals for the coyotes Josh rowntree Pittsburgh

"Nathan McKinnon, their superstar player. He just inked an 8 year contract extension that's worth 12.6 million annually making it the richest contract against the salary cap in NHL history. They've locked up star defenseman kale Macarthur for a long time. They've still got a lot of the players that made up the depth of this team. They're in very good shape. Now the bad news. They had some significant roster changes. They lost experienced players like nazem kadri and Andre barakovic forward and goaltender Darcy Kemper. Now, I think they've got the depth to a place where koski on the wing and young Alex newhook can replace kadri's scoring, but not necessarily his intangibles. The real question is, what is this goal tend to look like? They had Pavel Franco's back. He was Kemper's backup and they traded for New York rangers back up. Alexander georgiev, they're going to split time. They basically want to see if they can make your give kind of like a Philip group hour was for them a couple of years ago. Get a backup from somebody else, make them into a starter and they're pretty optimistic they told me that they're going to be able to work out this goaltending tandem to great success. So Frankie versus georgiev. Two of the great names in the sport, battling for time. Indeed, I am much like Columbia and Rocky Horror picture show, a regular Frankie fan, he won 6 of 7 playoff appearances during the abs run of the Stanley Cup. I think he's a goalie that's always seemed like he needed his shot, sometimes health has been a consideration. Georgia is going to be interesting. He was the goalie with the rangers. Obviously lost his gig to eager to chuck and the best in the trophy winner. And a lot of people had said, if you get them out of New York and put them in the situation, he's going to thrive. But again, this is a huge pressure deal. This is a team that clearly has designs on winning back to back cups, much like the lightning did right. Like the penguins did and now he's going to have to in the words of GM Chris McFarland as he told me carry the ball a little bit himself. But you mentioned the lightning. I mean, the lightning, look, there's a hole larger story here, Greg that we need to address up top here because this is a team that has won two Stanley cups in the last 5 seasons. They have made the playoffs all 5 of those years, but the story that we need to get to is the fact that Ian Cole, their defenseman, has been suspended, right? There was this investigation into allegations that were made on social media that he sexually abused the woman when she was a minor. And so what do we know about this situation beyond the hockey analysis side of it? Well, Ian Cole was signed in the summer as a free agent by the lightning. He was expected to be in their starting lineup when the season opens against the rangers. But he was suspended over the weekend when an anonymous Twitter user put out a statement that said that Cole groomed her for four years, quote, starting when I was a minor in high school and noted that Cole was quote well aware of my age at the time of the alleged sexual abuse. The Twitter post didn't specify when or where this alleged encounter happened. The lightning subsequently released a statement saying that they had suspended Ian Cole quote pending the results of an investigation. They didn't specify if that was a police investigation and NHL investigation, their own investigation. And then Cole put out a statement through his agent later that night, saying, I completely deny these allegations and will fully cooperate with the NHL and the Tampa Bay lightning their officials, legal departments in the forthcoming investigation. I look forward to clearing my name and demonstrating to the NHL and the Tampa Bay lightning that these allegations are unfounded. So suspended for now as this investigation plays out, but obviously a bit of a bombshell in the NHL over the weekend. So as a lightning try and figure out a serious story and Ian Cole is held out of the lineup as they face the rangers to open the season as you just said, I do want to stick around in the Eastern Conference because the thing that's happening in Pittsburgh right now with a group of players group of veterans that I do recognize here. Sidney Crosby, evgeni malkin and Chris le Tang, who have been with this team forever, who won the cup together in 2017, I do find all of that intriguing, right? I mean, this team has been eliminated in the first round of each of these last four postseasons. And so the window that they have right now for championship contention, are they actual contenders still? Yeah, and the band is back together. There was some thought that they were going to blow up the roster based on the fact that they haven't had any success in the playoffs in the last few seasons, but they re signed up getting malkin. They re signed Chris la Tang, they bought back Brian rust. I asked Sidney Crosby if he was nervous this summer about the band potentially not coming back together and he said, you know, just I'm happy, relieved. And then immediately thinking, okay, we've got an opportunity. These guys are staying and now we've got to do something with it. So disturbingly good Crosby. Thank you very much. So Sid is happy. He's happy the band is back together. And if you that's happy. That's happy. That's as happy as we're getting from Crosby. The thing about the penguins that's interesting is this. They are convinced, and this was the selling point to ownership to bring back these veteran players that the last two postseasons were kind of they were a victim of circumstances. Their goal a Tristan jarry play horribly against the islanders in the first round. That's why they lost that series. Last year, if you remember Pablo, they had that situation where they were down to their third string goalie, Crosby gets hurt during the series against the rangers. They lose in 7 games. So their proof of concept is we had some weird stuff happened to us in the playoffs with this group together, bring the group back, maybe things go differently for us this time. And their window of opportunity is probably there for the next couple of seasons. They have a great coach in Mike Sullivan. They've got a pretty deep roster I expect them to make the playoffs again, but it is very rare in not only hockey, but professional sports to see a team run back a bunch of 35 plus stars after not having had success in the playoffs for the last four seasons. Yeah, and so I turn now to Alexander Ovechkin, as we often do when you mention the name Sydney Crosby, because what's happening with him in Washington, Greg, it's also interesting, right? This team won the cup in 2018. That was the year after the penguins did it. But ever since there has been something of like this downward spiral, right? I mean, so how likely is it actually that we might get a playoffs that we might get a postseason with that Ovechkin who himself is, yeah, 37 and without the caps possibly. Well, I have the cap's missing. It might be by a couple points, but I'm a little bit suspicious of the aging curve for them. Father time is undefeated as they say, Pablo and you look at TJ oshi, he's 36. He posted his worst offensive numbers in 7 seasons. Nick Baxter was 35. He's going to start the season on injured reserve after a major hip surgery. They're not sure when he's back. John Carlson, Lars Eller, both 33. And like you said, Ovechkin is 37, but Russian machine never break. Remember he's still chasing Wayne Gretzky's NHL mark of 894 goals. Ovechkin sits third all time with 780 has a chance to pass Gordie Howe this season at 8 O one. So his record chase will at least be a reason to keep watching the capitals, no matter what happens in the standings. The reason to believe if you're a caps fan is this, they posted an 8 98 team save percentage the lowest for any playoff team last season for their goaltending. They went out and signed Darcy Kemper from the Colorado avalanche to a 5 year contract. If he is the solution to their goaltending woes and their older players can still produce that reasonable levels, they may still be able to make the playoffs, but I have them out on the outside looking in. So if they remain on the outside looking in and they miss the Eastern Conference playoffs entirely, who is the team that didn't make those playoffs last season that you think could be in this one? It's the devil's the devil. Speaking of references that people under 37 probably won't get. Thank you. Thank you for making that. Shout out to my New York born gen xers. Listen, three things have to happen for the New Jersey Devils to make the playoffs. They need to get some saves for two consecutive off seasons. They've tried to improve their goaltending and into consecutive off seasons. It did not work. Now they went out and they acquired capitals goalie VTEC than a check to pair with Mackenzie blackwood. If those two can stay healthy and improve the goaltending, that's a good thing for the Devils. There's the health aspect. Dougie Hamilton, Jack Hughes, impact players. They were both banged up last season. Jack Hughes was limited to 49 games last year. If both of those guys are healthy, play at least 70 games, I think that's going to help them. Finally, they're power play stunt last year, Pablo. And if they can improve that with their new associate coach Andrew brunette, then

"Pure white shirts have shimmered spectacularly once again. And Real Madrid are Paris found round Madrid will play the big game again. After a stunning soccer game in Spain, the Champions League Final is now set. The NFL is headed to deutschland and a golf pioneer prepares to hit the links. From wondery, I'm Matt Stroud, and I'm Anders kelto. It's Thursday, may 5th, and this is starting 5. 5 sports headlines in ten minutes. So stroke, we're in some sort of strange time vortex today because for whatever reason, there are no NBA playoff games tonight. So what is a hoops head, like yourself gonna do? Will you be okay? Yeah. I mean, I don't know. We knew this day would come and I can tell you I'm not ready. Whatever meme you picture for person staring helplessly out window, that's gonna be me around 7 p.m. eastern tonight. I truly do not know what I'm gonna do with myself. I mean, arts and crafts, maybe. I have no idea. All right. Well, hey, I look forward to seeing your diorama tomorrow. Yes. All right, well, let's jump into things. Why don't you take us into today's news? Okay, Real Madrid pulled off an incredible comeback on Wednesday beating Manchester City three one at home and knocking the English superpower out of the Champions League Madrid will now play Liverpool in the Champions League Final. That's on May 28th in Paris, Anders what in the world happened in this game. Yeah, this was one of the most dramatic comeback wins we've ever seen in a tournament that, by the way, has seen a lot of big comeback wins. Manchester City appeared to be cruising toward a second straight Champions League Final. When all of a sudden, kind of out of nowhere, Madrid scored two goals, very late in the game, to force extra time, and then they sealed the deal with a penalty kick in OT. Benzema rose. Has Real Madrid 6 5 up on aggregate. They were dead. They live. This, of course, was a huge disappointment for man city and head coach Pep Guardiola, who keeps finding creative new ways to not win this tournament somehow, but the real story here, Matt, was Real Madrid. As you heard the announcers say in that clip, they just refused to die. This is a veteran team that was outplayed by man city in both games, but just kept finding ways to score goals and stay alive. And by the way, Real Madrid's path to the final has now included wins over Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea, and Manchester City. If they now beat Liverpool, that is arguably the most difficult path to a championship we've ever seen. Unreal. I am circling that date May 28th on my calendar Anders. All right, let's move over to the NFL where the league announced its international schedule for the upcoming season and in addition to three very early Sunday morning games happening in London this year. And one in Mexico City, the NFL will also play a regular season game for the very first time in Germany. It's the bucks taking on the Seahawks November 13th at the Allianz arena home of mighty Byron Munich. Yeah, I think it's gonna be nice for the fans of Germany to see both extremes of the quarterback spectrum on the one far end. You will have the greatest to ever do it, Tom Brady. On the other side, all the way down at the other end, you're gonna have someone from the contingent of Gino Smith, drew lock, or Jacob Eason under center for Seattle. So that'll be fun. And by the way, this matchup will be the first of four games in Germany the next four seasons, and some other firsts for YouTube ponder. The box will be trying to get their first international win. They are zero and three in London games. The aforementioned Tom Brady will add yet another gratuitous accolade to his resume as the first NFL QB to start a game. In three different foreign countries, that would be England, Mexico, Germany, and the packers who, by the way, held out all this time the last team to have avoided international travel, they're going to head to London for the first time. I mean, PacMan, they do have pretty good cheese in England. That's fair. And when Aaron Rodgers inevitably throws a touchdown to rookie receiver Christian Watson, there will be no shortage of completely awful Sherlock Holmes jokes to follow. I just can't wait. I can totally see Aaron Rodgers with the little Sherlock hat and a pipe in his mouth. Absolutely. Now to the NHL, where the playoffs are going to continue tonight in the game to watch is rangers penguins. Game one on Tuesday went to triple overtime with the penguins getting a dramatic four three win and so far. I mean, this series just has look of a true classic in the making. Yeah, in that game one loss. Rangers goalie Igor shishkin made 79 saves. The second most ever in an NHL playoff game. But tonight, the big storyline is around the Pittsburgh netminder. The penguins have been without their injured starter, Tristan jarry, and in game one, his backup, Casey de Smith, left with an injury in the second overtime, which meant third stringer, Louis domingue, had to suit up and get this. He was so not expecting to go into this game that he apparently wolfed down a rather hefty dinner during overtime right before entering the game. And he talked about it in postgame. Spicy pork and broccoli. I needed something in my belly. Snot great. The spicy pork and broccoli and his belly was not great. Can we please get this man some decent takeout. Yeah. A 30 year old NHL journeyman is now in his 8th pro season and after playing in only two games for the penz this season, he is now expected to make his very first NHL postseason start. By the way, if you think I'm not ordering spicy pork and broccoli immediately after this, you are sorely mistaken, sir. All right, meanwhile, we have one day to go until the start of a new WNBA season. The action tips off with four games on Friday, including the Chicago sky starting their title defense against the LA sparks last year's runner up, the Phoenix mercury taking on the Las Vegas aces and the four time champion Seattle storm, squaring off against the Minnesota lynx. Yeah, there are some really compelling storylines to follow on opening night. I mean, Candace Parker and the sky, of course, trying to become the first repeat champions since the sparks in the early 2000s. As for Seattle, they've got title hopes and they've got 41 year old Sue bird. Coming back for a 19th WNBA season, which is, by the way, expect it to be her last in the league, and her former college teammate Dina taurasi will be playing in her 18th season for a pretty formidable Phoenix team. One that of course, though, will not have Brittany griner at the start of this season. Griner, as we know, has been detained in Russia since February. When she was accused of carrying cannabis oil in her luggage at an airport, and this season every WNBA team is going to have floor decals on their court in honor of griner. Those will feature her initials and her number 42 as efforts continue to bring her home. And on that note, on yesterday's episode of the lead, we did a deep dive on Brittany grinder's case, and why there is some reason to be hopeful about her release. Check it out. All right, let's wrap this up with some golf. Howard University's Gregory Odom junior will join the PGA Tour at the Wells Fargo championship at TPC Potomac today and will become the first ever golfer from the historically black university to participate in a PGA Tour event. He is an amateur and he'll be playing on what is called a sponsor exemption. Yeah, and the backstory here is pretty cool. Howard had a successful golf program that went undefeated in 1968 and won two conference championships in the 1970s, but the program was then disbanded and didn't come back until Steph Curry. Made a big donation to the school a few years ago. And curry talked about Greg Odom junior's participation in the event earlier this week. He has an amazing talent to get him on the PGA Tour to get some experience, continue to waive the Howard flag. It's going to be awesome. I'm excited for him. I'm excited for the opportunity for him to showcase his skills and then continue to put Howard on the map..

"Fantastic. Yes, love that special boost set. So the fact that he's been so good, the fact that top line has been so good, the fact that they made a shrewd move at the trade deadline and acquiring Mark Giordano defense in the Seattle kraken. Like all these things add up to the leafs kind of being almost favored in their series against the lightning, which is a crazy thing to say. That said, though, another first round exit for the Toronto Maple Leafs and we might have to see some serious changes. Their GM Kyle dubas has been there since 2018. If the leafs go out and one again, it's hard to believe they're going to run it back next year with the same crew and management and the same crew on the ice. Yeah, in this case, incidentally, M bison's best move psycho crusher also describes the phenomenon of rooting for the Toronto Maple Leafs. So the back to back Stanley Cup champions, Greg. And people who've been riding high are the Tampa Bay lightning and you did not mention them, very conspicuously when you gave us sort of your overview of those chalky picks to start this thing. So where do they fit into this whole thing? So they finished third in their division, and I feel like after two straight Stanley cups, there were times in which the lightning just wanted to get to the playoffs. Like the regular, it's really hard after you've won two straight cups, Pablo to get excited for Ottawa on a Tuesday night. You know what I'm saying? So like, I feel like they were in cruise control there, just trying to get back to the playoffs. And now they're in. And they have the leafs in the first round. It's a very, very interesting series for all the reasons we just listed, but obviously the most interesting one from the Tampa Bay side, they are trying to become the first team to win three straight Stanley cups since the New York islanders in the early 1980s. The difference for the lightning this time, I think, is a significant lineup change. They're checking line of Yanni gourde Blake Coleman and Barkley goodrow was an essential part of their back to back Stanley Cup championships. Goudreau is with the rangers, gourds with the kraken, Holman's with the Calgary flames. They don't have that line anymore. That checking line they had in the last two seasons was the one that could shut down the opponent's top line and score a goal on them, and that's a tough thing to replicate. Is it just so I understand this, Greg? So the Tampa Bay lightning just aren't trying as hard as they could have. This is sort of like a thing we see in the NBA, right with load management. They haven't been putting the pedal to the metal because they're saving themselves for this specific time of year. And why not, man, like it's been too long playoff runs granted in truncated seasons, but too long playoff runs nonetheless, and you're talking about a team that's got upwards of 12 guys over the age of 30 that contribute regularly. So, you know, they're a little bit up in age as I believe the president referenced recently at The White House. Folks, the victory capped off an incredible run. By one of the most well rounded teams in recent memory. But I was standing players at every level. Led by a captain, a lightning stalwart of 14 seasons, Steve, 14 seasons. Yep. You're getting old, man. I don't know. I gotta get some advice from Steve about this. Yeah, Greg, not great when Joe Biden is making fun of you for being old. Just out on principle. But okay, hold on. This championship window thing in terms of everyone's time horizon, right? What does the rest of the east look like? Well, you have two teams that are desperately trying to extend their Stanley Cup championship windows. The Boston Bruins are playing the Carolina hurricanes, the pave eliminated the hurricanes and two of the last three seasons. They still have a core of a tree spurgeon who is a free agent this summer, Brad marchand, our old friend, David pasternak, Charlie mcavoy. They still got a good group of those players from that core, but the window to win with this group closes ever so slightly as the years go on. The hurricanes are interesting, by the way, they're one of the better teams in this league quietly. Actually, they're seasoned standings points with the highest in franchise history, going all the way back to the Harvard whaler days, but they have one point of concern to this series, which is that Freddie Anderson, they're outstanding starting goaltender, was injured towards the end of the season. And I've been told that there's a chance that he could miss a couple of games in this first round series. The other team that is looking to extend their window are the Pittsburgh penguins who of course want to Stanley cups back to back before the lightning made it cool. They played the New York rangers and their first round matchup. Could be the last ride, if getting malkin, Chris la Tang, Brian rust are amongst the free agents they have this summer. Tristan jarry, their goal center who really carried them for much of the season during a bunch of injuries and lineup absences. He broke his foot late in the season. So he might not be available for the series Casey the smith could be in goal. And they're playing against the ranger team that knows the thing or two about goaltending, my friend, Igor should shirking, know the name, best bully in the world this season, Igor is the man in the crease, the successor to Henrik lundqvist, is gonna win the vezina trophy as the best goalie in the league, but they are beyond just being a goalie and nothing else to kind of team our time in Panera and Chris kreider hit 50 goals. They have Adam Fox who won the Norris trophy as best defenseman last year. This is your classic matchup of the team trying to extend its championship life versus the team that's just getting into their window to win. Igor shishkin, do I have that right? Yes, Igor shirk. Okay, I'm gonna keep muttering Igor stark into myself. During this break, but afterwards, Greg, we're gonna take a look at the west. So Greg and your column last week, you kind of cut to the chase on all of this, right? And you created this category under the heading of, quote, we're afraid to see what happens if they don't win. Unquote, referring to a specific group of players who kind of embody what I love about sports, right? That true shame and humiliation is on the line when they play. So who are you thinking of when you wrote that? Two players in particular, one is Nathan McKinnon of the Colorado avalanche of the avalanche are the team in waiting, the championship team that everybody thinks is going to manifest this year that the favorite to win the Stanley Cup. Nathan McKinnon is one of the single most intense competitors I've ever covered. If you could think about a post series press conference where a player has that look on his face, like he just got beat on a video game by his younger brother and is thrown the controller across the room and just looks sullen. There's just like a hole in the television where his fists just was. That's the McKinnon after these playoff losses, man. This guy takes it harder than anyone I've ever seen. And I'm genuinely afraid to see what would happen if they don't make it to at least a championship round this season. The other guy is Connor McDavid. It obviously McDavid everybody knows probably the most talented score in the league right now, a 123 points this season, one is fourth scoring title, only Gretzky, Howe, lemieux, esposito, yaga and mikita have four or more than McDavid is just 25 years old. But.
"tristan jarry" Discussed on Spittin' Chiclets
"Hey, great wheels. I just want to say those are the ones that we went on the sandbaggers in. And when we're not winning them, we're not wearing the G force. So shout out to G four. Very comfy shoe. And they got a lot of different kinds. They got the easy slip on ones too. Like if you don't like to wear those big, like the clunkier ones, but if you like the bigger ones with more support, they got that too. So shout out to G four and thanks for hooking us up for the sandbag is bored. I think I'm wearing them in this one. If we win. Spoiler alert, no spoiler. Back to the penguins, like I was saying boys, they're not gonna catch the ranges, but the caps are only three points back with two games in hand, so the caps really control their own fate here. I'll ask you first, would you rather face shishkin in the ranges or Florida in the first round of the playoffs? So this is a great question. I was thinking about it 'cause I looked at the outline prior I'd rather play Florida, I'm scared of the rangers. I'm scared of Avery. They have like some crazy shit going. How crazy does that sound of me? But I don't really trust bobrovsky and I think goaltending is so important in playoffs. Now the argument is that the rangers 5 on 5 plays like it can be kind of questionable and they're power play is so hot that what happens when it may be dries out? Yeah. But I don't know, like the Panthers without ekblad and I know there's a chance he comes back, middle of the first shout out. I don't really know the recent reports, but for me, it's why I get on Toronto so much like goaltending, golden and you can not win without an elite goalie and I see this guy and I see the seasons he's having and the season he is having and I know he had that questionable wrong while we were in Atlanta and while I was feeding Avery as a lunch and stuffing them in a locker, but lately he's completely back to like this unbeatable force and he has his obviously weighs over Pittsburgh, right? He's waving goodbye to him. He shot him out that game. He dominated them all season. It's kind of a lose lose, right? But in terms of like, I don't really buy or trust the Panthers yet. Once they went around, yeah, I think things will change, but it's like, and I know the rangers haven't done anything, but I don't know what it is about goaltending and me being afraid. It's just erkin and kind of not really being sure about bobrovsky. Now the good thing is to play devil's advocate a little for Panthers fans, the 7 of you that want me dead, you have spent your night. So that's kind of the game changer in all this, that if you do have a struggling bob, boom, this first round pick studs coming in. So I don't know, biz, what do you think? I think it's a coin toss. I was critical the way that New York opens things up and you talked about their 5 on 5 play and how many scoring chances they give up and high quality ones at that. Over the last little bit, I feel like they've buttoned that up and addressed that and they are playing a little less, I guess you could say riverboat gamble, gambling style. But I guess it's hard for me to say that I trust a circuit and more because he's never really been on a playoff run and neither is bob and then but on the flip side of that, I think that after the trade deadline, I think that I don't know if that Georgia was scared that he was going to get dealt and didn't want to. He wasn't playing particularly well. He was talked about being a trade piece and then never ended up going anywhere because they were able to get all those guys they got without having to get up and give up any true assets. And since then, he's been on fire too, so they kind of have that one two punch as well. I agree with you though. Everything's been going according to plan for them on the power play and then all of a sudden you get the playoffs and your matchup is against a team who's very good in the PK and if that dries up, it's like next thing you know it's over. So I would probably lean more towards wanting to play Florida as well. And it also is because ekblad won't have been healthy as long in the regular season to maybe get his footing underneath them. I don't know what's going on with the long-term IR situation to where maybe he can't even come back to a playoff starts. So that to me is a little bit of a question mark as he able to slide right in and just kind of get back to his normal self. He kind of offsets the like while you got Adam Fox the north defenseman and the guy back there we're now all of a sudden you got it back. So that to me is a big component as well and why I'm leaning towards I'd rather play Florida right now. I also I think mainly it's like, as I talk about the crazy offense this year, whenever I see high scoring teams, I'm just kind of like, oh, wait till the playoffs. Wait till. So maybe it's maybe it's that we're like, yeah, you score so many goals, but that's gonna change. That won't matter. But I mean, they gave Tampa great serious last year and the other thing is, I think this was, I think I heard this a couple of weeks back, so maybe it's not the case, but I'm pretty sure that so do you know the pairing that's played the most minutes, 5 on 5 together this year in the league? Not Devon tapes and makar, I would probably. I don't think you'll get it. And everyone will let me know if I'm incorrect and this is changed since I heard it a few weeks back. It's keandre Miller and Jacob trouba. So they formed this like, I mean, true but hammers guys, Miller skates so well, so you got fawkes playing with lingering and then, you know, the bottom pairing like I like that Schneider a lot in New York now about nemeth, but the rangers are better defensively than just shirking. And I think that's the main reason I said that. And it pains me to say it because Avery is such a piece of shit. Yeah, mill has been outside. Not Sean Avery folks. We have a behind the scenes camera guy. I think I love it. Spear of that guy's knee. Yeah, he tried to ruin a guy's life in men's league. So he's still up to his old antics. No matter where he is folks, he is just that thorn in your side. Could be men's league. We must have got went and got the camera footage, like the security cam. Imagine being more of that much money in like after men's league going up to ask the security cam guy for the footage so he could fucking. He had his own guy coming to film the game. I mean, if there's one place you should be able to be a hammer, it's like men's league and give a little fucking salutes of the crowd. One other note in the penguins, they got some bad news over the weekend. Goalie Tristan jarry, he's going to be week to week with a suspected foot injury. It's the last thing you want going into the playoffs is a goalie on the week to week if I can injured reserve. For flurry, really called it, it just really bad news. I feel bad because overall joris had a great season. And the reason that I am going to be I know this is hard, this is hard. The reason I'm going to be picking against the penguins in the first round, I don't have the exact numbers, but I heard it today..

"Just read today that Brian Elliott is probably going to start for last ten games. There you go. They're going to try and they're going to try and carve back some time for vasilevski. I mean, let's face it. He's the best in the game. But you can wear out the best in the game too. And maybe that month away for Jack Campbell will help him in Toronto. Florida has not overtaxed bobrovsky or mainly because they can't there's really not that much difference. Although burrows, his numbers are actually quite good, but nobody's tired there. Boston's been running two guys, Carolinas, since rant is back. He's been two guys. Pits the team that has run Tristan jarry hard. Right. And he's had an excellent year. I guess your sturk in it. Hey, look, if you got a number one horse, you're going to play them a lot. The backside of that is what if he gets tired, and he lets in a squeaky one that is at the wrong time of the year. Let's get over to the west and we'll talk about the LA Dallas Vegas Nashville and the battle for a playoff spot spots that continues there before we do. Quick shout out to our friend Darren mallard, right? In a tough bike accident, late last week, went through a tough scratch, I would say for a few days leading into the weekend through the weekend, but the good news is he's on the mend. It's going to take him a bit of time. Tough western Canadian boys. Will mallard? There you are. You're doing your thing and this pops into your day. And also, I hope you're getting better as quick as you can be. But yeah, he was sour. He had to miss games and you're like, you know, you got to get better first. Because by the way, I don't think Vegas is dead yet. No. I was going to ask, is it so it's not too late for it? There's 7 and three, their last ten. They got patch already back. LA's lost three in a row. They lost three zero three zero lead in Minnesota. And then all of a sudden, they're chasing the game. They can't get it back. They lose that's three in a row for them. I mean, they're not a healthy team. I think they've had an amazing year to be where they are..

"tristan jarry" Discussed on ESPN Daily
"So Greg was in ski, I summoned you back onto the show today because Brad marchand, the number one villain in hockey is back in the lineup tonight. After completing what is merely his latest suspension and I just want to explain here at the top, what he did exactly to earn that suspension in the first place. Because this was just over a week ago, the bruins are hosting the penguins, Boston is down 42 in the closing seconds of this game. The things essentially over, but the bruins find themselves on the attack and what happens. Well, there's a shot on goal that saved by penguins goalie, Tristan jarry, and players stopped. And Jerry makes yet another series of saves and Marshawn is hot. And Brad marchand is just outside of his crease. And for some reason, he reaches around the referee to deliver a right jab directly to the head of a goaltender, which is generally frowned upon in the National Hockey League. Marshawn comes in with a bright punch to the side of the head of jarring. Second reaction from all the pigments as well as it should. Also frowned upon the moment where Brad marchand is being restrained by the linesman and being led away from the play after punching the goalie. He kind of moves back towards jari, takes his stick and pokes it into the neck and the mask of the penguins goaltender. Marshawn reaches up with his stick here, the mask of the Pittsburgh galton. For the history like Marshawn, that's not going to help. So this is verboten in this league Pablo. He's like, when you're being led away by the official, you do not reenter the fray. So now he's punched a goalie. He's defied the wishes of the linesman and he's also high stick to goalie. But wait a minute. If this is beyond the pale even for hockey, Greg, I have curious why this happened between these two guys. What was the beef between marchand and jari in the first place? There are many theories after the game as to why this happened. Earlier in the game, jari was trying to give a puck to a fan and Marshawn came by and stole the puck away. It was almost like he was saying, hey, you don't give pucks away to our fans here in Boston. Which, again, as a brewery's player would be a completely reasonable statement. But according to the official testimony from the NHL's disciplinary hearings. Marshawn testified that the punch was only prompted by jarry's comment after making the save, which was, how about that ethane save? Wait, Greg, I mean like, is this how you like them? Apples, goodwill hunting scenario. Like, where does that rank in your mind in the annals of trash talk? That particular line from that goalie. It is extraordinarily benign. And that's not me saying that, man. It's Brad Marshawn himself, a man who is a master of the craft. He admitted during his testimony that there was nothing really out of line or derogatory in any kind of way with jari statement and that quote my emotions got the best of me and I made a poor decision to which commissioner Gary bettman said in his ruling to say that mister Marshawn overreacted to that comment would be an understatement. But what was the fallout from all of this? Now the fallout was that the NHL department of player safety suspended Marshawn for 6 games after an in person hearing. This was marchand's 8th suspension of his career. He now holds the NHL record for most suspensions passing hockey Hall of Famer Chris pronger who had 7, one of which was for stomping on another man's leg with a skate. So Greg, this guy who has the most suspensions ever and by the numbers is the biggest villain in the National Hockey League, it seems pretty safe to say, it does remind me that villainy being despised, it's also not really about the numbers, the statistics, Greg, it's sort of an intangible thing too, isn't it? What is his reputation around the league? How would you characterize that part of it? I think his general reputation around the league is obviously as its chief agitator. Goes face first into the boards after marchand hit him. And he is slow to get up. As pest supreme. Marshawn will let him out of the bench. See you Mark Shawn won't let him go to the bench to get a stick. This guy's unbelievable. He's got every trick in the book this Marshawn. As someone who has an indelible knack at getting under opponent's skin, either by physical antics or with his yap. I think there's also the reputation that Marshawn has of having been a player who earlier in his career seemed to be sort of destined down a path of just being that guy, but who has shown through the last decade that he's much more than that. It is one of the best left wings, the National Hockey League has seen from a production standpoint in the last two decades. Marsh on the south pass. He's got a break short Hannity scores Bragg Moore Shawn with his 27th lifetime shorthanded goal. I think overall though the guy that he just passed for the suspension record in the NHL Chris pronger is a good comparison. The thing you always heard about pronger was this, I hate playing against the guy, but I would love to have him as a teammate. And there are some times where marchand's personality and his antics get the better of them and it's a detriment like getting a 6 game suspension when the Boston Bruins are in the middle of a playoff race, for example. But for the most part, the things he does boast from a pest nature and from an offensive player nature are things that teammates value. And I do think he's.

"Okay, and we are back here. Again, we're sitting on a solid solid for shots that Tristan Jarry his face and his already given up two goals. I guess that he did not make a safe to give up the juiciest Rebound in the history of hockey. But, you know, was it really a safe? Let's talk out for insane goon so I assume that you've watched them a pretty real amount of him cuz I sent you a couple of games where I was like, holy shit. This guy is maybe something different than what we thought. Hm, yes, I've dug back into two more games as well. Yes, I only get there. He'll help me get there. I know always like a top ten guy for you. I'm just I'm not quite there as a as a top ten guy, and I'll let you kind of intro. I want to steal your thunder but I need a, I need a fantasy, any cell on him? Yeah. So early in the season, I was a little bit more worried about him being. He's definitely like a pick-and-roll big who was really good around the bat. Basket and was really good at finding little like gaps in areas in coverage, has to be able to just get a lot of points and rebounds right thigh great feel for the ball, having great feel and a nose for the basket. Really is improved as footwork to the point where he is not like an athlete by NBA standard wage anything but good enough possible. Right? What we seen in the last month from him is a little bit different because he started to actually like create off the bounce in a straight line. He's starting to actually be able to get to the rim as a perimeter attacking big, not just like a okay, I need a screen and then to be able to roll or screen and short roll drive, like some of the things he's doing grabbing and going and transition. Some of the things he's doing just like catching the ball at the top of the key driving and then like kicking out his passing ability off. As really showcased itself over the course of the last. I would say month, realistically, and he looks a lot more comfortable as a parameter big than what I thought he was, having seen him having. I mean, I've watched a lot of his tape, I probably watched I don't know, five hundred six hundred minutes of his tape at this point and I am very much impressed. Others say five hundred games, like, I don't know if those are out there. If there are you're on some like dark web website. Finding them cuz I dark web turkey. Alperin schengrund. Yeah, that's that's not good for you for your search history, but I'm an agreement with you. Like, you had that one move that, that I tweeted, he kind of did it inside out trouble and finish and I was like, oh that's that's different, he's still kind of has this tendency to turn his back from the perimeter and back down just comfortable doing that in the last I'd say 2 or Thursday. Three games..

They put out feelers to a lot of people and and tests kind of a widish net to hit their numbers of what it would be but I haven't seen anything and usually look to try to figure out what they made play and I'm kind of drawn a blank too. Well, yeah. And like the other thing is that they're kind of branding themselves as a transformative Sports League, not as like a wage Couple of teams that will play outside of the league, you know what I mean? Sure, so and it's just it's just different too because when we think about life, really ignite, which it's not like sister programs, maybe, like, cousins, I guess because it's still a, a professional route. So for a guy like we've talked about a little bit scooter Henderson who was he's a guard. Very tough hard-nosed Guard from Georgia, Kell High School. He was debating going to Auburn to be getting playing for overtime. Going to G league night for him energy. They denied Thursday, already proof-of-concept with the league, and that is to steal a term used. It's a true minor-league ecosystem which includes real bona. Fide NBA competition. I saw a tweet yesterday or M days ago that the G League had nearly half the players in NBA playoffs with some experience in the G League which is kind of crazy when you think about it in a wild stat. And that's why I like if you suck And play for Jee tonight. You're playing the big boys. I mean we've we watched the them play and first game, they're playing Jordan Poole who's who's played his way up and his played significant minutes and meaningful games two thousand a year? There's no really nights off so there's already been established, you're going to get better cuz you're playing as NBA guys every night. That's probably more appealing for a guy like scoota to do that for two years because he won't be draft-eligible as opposed to taking a leap with a new company and ever, which can be enticing. But you just don't necessarily know where you're going to wind yet. And this could clarify itself off and maybe the season or maybe 60 days but it's just not there yet, it's not fully baked. Yeah, yeah. The good news is that Tristan Jarry gave up a goal on the first shot affect off. This is all going. You know what you should do with the the next step is. Well we'll do this on like YouTube and you don't have like your TV screen embedded in the top right-hand corner. So we can understand why your fist pumping while making points about wage. Clarity and the overtime Elite League well and I think scooters, really good too, by the way, like I I've seen that kids tape that kids awesome kids like a crazy athlete like super first step like has a real frame. I think to be able to play at the G League level. Like most point guards, I would be terrified of sending to that level off ASAP, right? Because oh sure there's something gets really, he's a really tough kid. Yeah, I don't think he's going to back down from competition and he thrives in that and all his games are are kind of must-see T in that area and that's always packed and ironically and I do sort of draft stuff to four declarations because you don't know when when a guy's going to declare or say he's going back to school. So I'll have a bunch of videos like lined up down the tweet and a had one because I thought he was going to sign with overtime saying Savvy signing by overtime, the lead to get scooted Henderson..

"I can feel it but you know you hear a lot of narratives around the lead, you know, the Leafs aren't that good? You hear like different little things from different parts than a week but you don't get to really see it a lot, whether it be because they're not on nationally or you know you're just busy with life or the Bruins are on at that same time. These are just see the tweets. And you don't really see like a too much of it. You see the same thing that's obviously which are pretty telling, but you don't physically see it. You don't see the full package and I think one of the funny parts of this Penguin series was like, you knew going in. Jerry, wasn't that great, right? Like you knew he was definitely going to have to be really like, I think someone said going to the series as long as he doesn't lose the many games, the Penguins will be all right. And then you actually watch every game in that series and it was like holy crap. He is awful awful and I loved black birds tweet of me watching. Tristan Jarry, it was westmacott flashes unable to play his position. That's that's perfect place. It really goes and it goes back to this. And we've said this before, you know, for the Bruins fans who really bitch about Rask, watch these other teams because the Penguins were a good team, there a good, that's not a bad team. And the other part of it. And we've, and you've said this all year, was you have Jeff Carter. Scored a bunch of goals. You have like, Cody, c, c and Mike Matheson playing like really well and you have all these guys who are typically not doing so hot or supposed to be on the back end of their careers. So I'm not even in the NHL who are playing like a Stanley Cup Contender. And then you have that in that, like, I was thinking this morning, would almost be like, like, what was the? What was the biggest weak Link in the Bruins this year? Most of the year is probably like jakub zboril, right? Like if Djokovic world back on deep third pairing guy, some nights who's up on the first pairing cuz of cuz of injuries and stuff. But it was annoying for people it's kind of an eyesore, right? Like you had tough time to get out of his own Zone, couldn't defend the front of the net. Well, like they're all little weak things that would people get annoyed with imagine if that was in net. Imagine if every month, Part of that was then in the net that is Tristan Jarry and that is why, you know, you can see Rask and and and be like, you know, maybe you should have stopped that. But at least it's not Tristan Jarry. Yes, that's that's like the ultimate that's the ultimate like level to weigh all the ghouligans. At least you're not Tristan Jarry level. It's like it's like it's like the scene in Moneyball with Brad Pitt was like the ten ten layers shit and it's just I mean yeah. I just picture like what Pittsburgh fans are looking at now and like putting it in the perspective of the Bruins of like, if you didn't have Rascal Roshes playing at.
Nelson Helps Islanders Beat Penguins 5-3 to Reach 2nd Round

Sorokin, Islanders Beat Penguins 4-1 in Game 4 to Tie Series

"On your first deposit that online, your online Sportsbook, experts experts, go there now can't beat that 50%. Can't do it. So the area in this series of the Bruins, have the most the big Advantage is in that and we knew this going it. This was kind of obvious. You have two carafes established Elite star goaltender in the NHL, maybe not everyone thinks that but that's the truth. And then you have on the other side of a lot of maybes coming in a series. Samsung off, was on the covid-19. Got hurt immediately. Craig Anderson. You know you're going down the depth chart here and Craig Anderson. Like help them in the series ended up working out kind of. All right. You came out one or one of the game's creators place and and then it just dips in Game Theory. Just maintenance. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, exactly. That was hilarious body made it. So, I was like, huh? And then even back up, so those two games, those two games took like years off of his life. He had he had to he had to regenerate some drinking three but they won't same Stone often game 3 and he was pretty good. I mean I'm like yeah but he held in there like aside from the mistake on the overtime goal which was mainly Justin Schultz, just kind of stuff. Yeah, it was just just natural sleep in there. Some sort of was was wage great. I mean, the Bruins had many chances to end the game to extend their lead, so but you still have that in. And again, if that's the birth Just that the the capitals are going to be in net. If if a two-one series lead for the Bruins is the best, the capitals going to be in net. Your your prediction of ruins and 5 is pretty much going to come before, right? Yeah, I mean you look at it and yeah, Craig Craig Smith, Craig Anderson, very Craig Anderson, you know, is great and game too. In terms of, you know, facing the volume of shots, he, he did, and off again, as you said, Samsung of it stinks for him, that he's going to get a noted for, you know, getting knocked for that, that goal and double overtime one again, a lot of that would shows and also, like a dream doubt by his captain on the bench which is not a very good look. So so but yeah, you just look at the the way the Caps are built. You know, it's not like they had a guy wage. It's not like, you know, this was a team that had a A vasilevskiy or someone like that like injured was waiting to come back. All right. Well, we have to knock them out for this guy gets back there like Simpson off is a young talented goalie but hasn't really fully put it together this year. So you're throwing him into the fire. Now if you're Peter Laviolette, it's like you going with him or he going with most forty-year-old. Craig Anderson. So kind of damned-if-you-do damned-if-you-don't. I mean they've had three games and three different setting goaltenders, which again sound like they've been. They've been buried by by their goaltending, but it means a whole lot when you have a team of Thrones who you can pencil in a guy, like Tuukka Rask every single night and nobody's going to, you know, give you a good game. I mean, again, for as much as people were, you know. And on his play early on, we're still not hitting a point yet where raps cos, you know, you know, I'm not hitting the, the DEFCON 5 button. If unless he's letting up goals like, you know, Tristan Jarry Thursday, and Pittsburgh words, just clean glove hand.
Penguins shut out Capitals 3-0 to reclaim 1st place in East
"The penguins have sole possession of the east division lead after Bryan rust scored two unassisted goals in a three nothing win over the capitals in Washington rust's second goal of the game was the one hundredth of his career billiard a hundred is a is that doubled up optical a milestone and something that I'm definitely look back on and I the chair said if you're over there's a lot more to come but it's difficult Jeff Carter added to the mix with his fourth goal in ten games since joining the pens Tristan Jarry stopped twenty three shots in his second shutout of the season in Pittsburgh sixteen victory in its last twenty three games the penguins scored on three of their first thirteen shots against Ilya Samsonov and moved two points ahead of second place Washington I'm Dave very
