"Complex, and that's why there's a lot of concerns as we heard from our colleagues, Trish Turner and others say that as they tried to clear and secure the scene They were very worried about who could be around because there's just so many places for people to go. Nancy Pelosi has offices in the Capitol and in office buildings. All of the leadership have these hideaway offices. They're called that our little tucked away doors where this is very, very old building, so it's going to take a very big undertaking for law enforcement to go through and get everybody Out of the building. And as we've seen from these pictures that we're still seeing as the sun sets over Washington that there's still that thousands of protesters it looks like Outside on the scaffolding on the bleachers that have been set up for the inauguration. So it's it's a multi front effort to get people out of the building and try and actually clear the area. This, of course, is lawmakers are still there within the complex. On. We're waiting to see whether they can move forward tonight. Or if at all on the certification of the electoral college results, you know, when Joe Biden spoke, I guess that was now about coming up on two hours ago. You know, he was talking about that moment that had been happening. I was kind of forgot that that's what everybody was there for why all the lawmakers were in the room, he said the work of the moment, meaning the actual certification of the results of the election, but also the next four years will continue, He said. That work is the restoration of democracy. Decency Honor, he says. Plain and simple, just decency. So you know, while we're very focused, obviously on the chaos, we're focused on the law enforcement aspect of this. There's a big thing for democracy that was taking place today that still needs to take place in some point on. We have a lot of questions about how And when and where that can take place. And that, of course, is the certification of the electoral.

There is a really big covert relief package and a government funding package that are still being considered. There's a lot of work to be done in last night, We saw a bit of thawing. We saw positive signals from the leadership. No deal yet. It is due any minute they are long past due actually, But we did see positive signs. I mean, I can't even remember when I saw Mitch McConnell Speaker Pelosi, the minority leader in the House, Kevin McCarthy and the Democratic leader in the Senate. Stimulus talks continue as lawmakers struggle to reach agreement over unemployment benefits

"Of thousands of lives could be saved if all Americans wore masks. In time. Lawmakers on Capitol Hill continue to struggle trying to come up with a deal on a Corona virus stimulus package. And that clock is, of course, ticking. ABC is Trish Turner looks at what could happen if President Trump delivers on his threats and brings executive action to the table clear There will be legal challenges to this, you know, but they're looking in the areas, Meadow said. Unemployment insurance evictions other trying to re up this moratorium from the first stimulus package to keep people from being evicted from their homes. And then also something on student debt. And so these are a few areas that we know we know The outlier is also something that President Trump has had dear to his heart and that some kind of payroll tax cut an estimated 23 million people could face eviction from federal housing by October. Trump impeachment trial: Democrats lay out their case

"Back day one of opening arguments in president trump's impeachment trial Democrats beginning to lay out their case and they're by no means done yet they have two more days of time left to continue learning that out Adam ship today other than voting on whether to send our men and women to war this is there is I think no greater responsibility before you then the one before you now deal for you taken to impartially weigh the facts and evidence requires serious and objective consideration decisions that are about country not party about the constitution not politics about what is right and what is wrong Democrats have been showing exhibits all day today video clips of president trump talking in testimony from the house hearings and remember the Republicans having gone yeah that's why we're not hearing from them ABC's Trish Turner has been doing incredible work awake around the clock at the capitol never sleeping she's here now and Trish what's it been like in there today these have been long hours for the senators without much to do except sit and listen Hey Alex yes it's quite as logs so you know this is this is a this is a difficult task the senators have and you know there were some fireworks last night it set off a bad tone and and so you know everybody seems like they came in with their hair sort of bristled and but they've settled into a rhythm I'm a yes it's difficult weighty stuff many senators are taking notes some in fact there is a striking number who are actually up and pacing around the back of the chamber and which is good sort of an unusual sight there in and out of cloakrooms eating you know trying to stay awake this is difficult stuff like a mini you're taking notes there are several though I would say today we're beginning to see Republicans trump allies really who were digging and they're not taking notes I'm several hold a press conference conference before the trial even started and said they were looking toward vindication on he would be a that trump would be acquitted so you know there some are taking sides but by and large people are pretty serious you can hear a pin drop I'm in the chamber you know and as aside from if you were doing crossword puzzles I'm in other word games you know it seems like most people are really paying attention you know all of the arguments that you've heard today any big headline anything that we have not known up before now there isn't really any new news here at that we're hearing yet so but you know that the Democrats really seem to be trying to keep it simple and the house managers I should say I'm you know the simple theme that president trump cheated and he is going to do it again so they're trying to sort of bring this actor of you know this imminent danger to our electoral system to our democracy and that it's time to impeach him it's hard to remove them I should say from office and you know but it some we've even had some Democrats say that you know they're still waiting for more evidence are waiting for more you know concrete facts from the managers but it but again I think it just goes back to that slide right there the managers are trying methodically to lay out the way they are you know are alleging that president trump has really cheated the system and so you know that takes time and and we've got a lot of it you have a take us behind the scenes clearly the Democrats and I assume the Republicans will be the same thing when they go but the Democrats eight they've got this polished presentation these slides have been made the looks like some graphic designer put them together they've got their their processor speeches all lined up knowing exactly where they're going this is gonna be a big operation it's a tremendous operation you know it takes a village right I it's a the house managers have a massive staff they have done a lot of planning they have been on the floor you know on the Senate floor in prep sessions Dave I'm even you know they all practice taking to the lectern overnight before the trial began you know clearly they have the audio visual I'm operation up and running because I think many of us cringe when you I it seems like every time you try to employ a television on in in a situation like this it always goes awry but none of those it's been pretty seamless they worked really hard on this they have a lot of staff who are behind the scenes both teams the trump lawyers and the house managers just off the floor they have big operations for the Democrats we caught a glimpse it's a room that's maybe I would say about twenty feet to thirty feet from the chamber and they they have it's full of computers full of staff in and now there's lots of buzz we can't get near that room I very often but when we do it to be hi that activity the trump team has work space that's normally the vice president's space because of course he is the highest ranking officer in the Senate he's the presiding officer normally so he has a work space here so perhaps a little bit of an advantage but I'm you know so the that the trump team has a full complement of people even saw the White House press secretary deputy press secretary Hogan Gidley up here he's also helping out the trump legal team so it it's quite an operation and you know we they're working hard to come out and try to tell reporters but you know generally the press it there are a lot of constraints on on where we can go it's not normally that way up here so you know it's it's we're all trying to fit into this odd into this odd story together this odd read them it it's such an unusual blanket of of of of a story that sort of come around the capital and changed our lives quite dramatically ABC's Trish Turner who is not going to sleep now "I know. Let's talk about. If Trish Turner said that I believe her Trish Turner knows more baseball than I do. And in fact, Chris Turner are having a correspondent joins us. All right, Trish, good morning to you. Now, can you sneak into that room? Can you get a peek at that FBI file can't just like when the senators are coming in and out? Can you Darden take a look at it yourself? You know, Michael, I thought you liked me get arrested. I don't want that the temptation is great. But you know, and not that great. So Tricia, Trish, I get the sense from a report in the Wall Street Journal that the White House has had a look at it. And they're pretty confident that cavenaugh can get confirmed. Oh, yes. And our president is already tweeting seems very sure that his nominee. It'll be just fine. Standing by the White House is standing behind Kevin one hundred percent. So you have to know they've they've reviewed the report. And and they think it's fine. So how does this work who's the first Senator who gets to take a look at it at eight o'clock, eight o'clock. So we Republicans I have to think Republicans on the judiciary committee will be lining up first thing, but anybody can come down. Republicans are basically it works like the cleared Republican staffers for the judiciary committee. So these are the most senior people they they come in there. They're already in there with this one copy of the report and Republicans come down at eight o'clock, and they're briefed for an hour. And then everybody clears out and the democratic staffers go in who are cleared from the committee, and they brief any of the democratic senators who come down, and then they rotate blocks through the day told her done. So let me ask you a question. If it comes out at eight o'clock it gets leaked. From the Republicans. What about eight fifteen twenty? What do you think? Hey, you know, we are in unchartered territory that would be just the last thing. I would I would say whatever happened with a background investigation never been leaked. But I think that's why the White House is clamoring and number of senators are clamoring for some version of this report to be made public because they know the temptation is going to be so great and especially for democratic members. I think it will. Republicans to to to get something out of this report out into the open. And I would think the you know, other than just the privacy concerns. If those could be redacted, you know, releasing something would really calm fervor Miller pretty intense. Hey, now, if the reports are to be believed from the journal that there's really nothing here to substantiate the claims of sexual misconduct on the part of cabin. Where does this now leave Collins and flake and the other wavering Republicans for Cal? Yeah. The ten thousand dollar question and a couple of Democrats to in that rich state Democrats like mansion and Heitkamp we were talking about yesterday. So that's always run, Ben. It's pretty much down to about four or five people here that's the true audience because everybody else who's going to go in is basically consuming with a partisan. I know you're probably confirming position you are already holding. So then you go in and you read, and then you come out with you know, to tobacco whatever it is. You've decided already, and that's most of the Senate, and you know, but Collins, I was talking to some people yesterday, they're fully aware, this is all on them. And but they said she's gonna take her times read ask questions, she is really close or you know, she talks a lot to White House counsel. Don, Mcgann, I'm so she can ask questions, and and she's going to we've learned unless something changes, she's gonna keep her decision to herself until she bakes a big four speech. We don't know when that's going to be she's gonna make a big. Floor speech and her position. She doesn't want to say what it is to anyone in advance. Then she wants to lay all of that out with her final determination at the end of the speech. And that's according to one of her close staffers. So that I have a two part question is that. Okay. Michael. I'm going to be like with Sarah Sanders. I have two questions. Frazier number I s answering not me. Yeah. But you may cut me off in it babble something. They're gonna vote was expected Saturday, Trish. That's what we're expecting. Yeah. Procedural vote on Friday. It starts a clock that runs for thirty hours. And normally, you know, there there's a bit of comedy and people, you know, smelling insane wanna get out of town shrink that time period that you could bed. I mean, I was talking to a shimmery yesterday. You said there's just no way in heck, they're they're shrinking that time everyone's gonna take time to say that you know, state their position on the floor. Portraits Turner, our cavenaugh corresponding, the Washington, Trish, my the other part of my question is Murkowski Collins and flake made big shows yesterday. How upset they were with Trump's comments about the doctor forward in Mississippi the mocking tone. But I somehow get the feeling that that's their big statement. But yet when push comes to shove, they're they're gonna vote party line. I agree. It doesn't have anything to do with how they're gonna. They can separate outright. Trump will be Trump. And I think everybody sort of knows he's outlandish, and you know, says crazy things. Sometimes perceived to be, and you know, so they've pretty much separated that out this is about the supreme court. They know that. And you know, I got this even the centrum flakes tone talking yesterday. Let's there's a bombshell. He's gonna vote for this nominee. He was sort of positioning. And so to do that anyway. And so, you know, he said he used the word that I thought was pretty indicative of his position unless there is a blatant problem in this record. He he's he's fine with Brad Kavanagh sitting on the court. All right, ABC news is Trish Turner, Trish sneak in there and get your hands on the report and call us back. I don't know about you. All right. Thanks a lot. We'll talk to you tomorrow. I'm sure she say, I don't know about you. I don't know about you either. Thanks a lot, Linda. All right. Hey, I was a good night for the Yankees. "Down Colorado's. Morning news twelve person jury. Moving into. Day, two of deliberations in the financial crimes trial of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort for the latest we go live to the courthouse in Alexandria Virginia with ABC's Trish Turner. Good morning Trish Good morning, so I'm wondering does the. Longer the jury take to decide is that, a good sign you think for the, defense They certainly take it as. One and experts that we talked. To former prosecutors talked about five yesterday and they all. Seem to. Agree on the second day Fridays are very popular for verdicts so the second day everyone is sort of. On tenterhooks it's. Nothing they don't really start to read into anything. Until they get to closer to the end, of the day there's, no verdict the prosecution starts to maybe worry a little bit it's. More if we come. Back on Monday go through the day get to the end of Monday with. No Hurtig than. The prosecution definitely start to worry it's not unusual that? A jury might have questions for a judge needing clarity they did yesterday I? Think one of, them was what is reasonable doubt does it? Give us any insight into? What their questions may be Well that's it was, really interesting, I, mean yes you're right they're they usually do ask questions, it's not a surprise they asked or we, weren't surprised, because it. Really does seem like just jury was paying attention taking notes I mean one point in closing arguments one woman stopped to massage her hands she was taking. So many notes so it's not. It's no surprise to have a mountain of evidence to. Go through. The reasonable doubt question I'm told his asked quite often because it's not the way we sink right you. Don't think about. This this particular measure and so so they get. A lot of questions you know the the, judge just told them, look it's it's you just have to use your own reason it. Doesn't have to be. Guilt beyond all possible doubt so they they seem to bit perplexed by that. You know they. I think they were looking for a little more clarity? But I think this is a inevitably jury you know they have They have a difficult. Time. With this specific issue want, it sounds like because there are so many counts that like we. Talked about before, they're going to split that, that, he, may, not be found guilty on all counts but. It almost sounds like they're deciding await what counts rise. To the, level that it's going to be you, know six, or, seven of them and the rest will be thrown out, at least that's kind of the feeling seems, to be, coming across You know it does I think a lot. Of times the experts we've talked to say the tax evasion or? The tax fried questions can be answered? Pretty easily right you sign your documentary you don't you file your taxes or you don't that's pretty simple when. You get into, whether or not someone needs to file a foreign Bank account, report report their foreign accounts these. Are issues, that we, normal folk don't deal with a lot of. Times took it into the first, to get into the weeds of financial crimes do you have to own fifty percent, or more of a company do you have to have signing wordy. So there are all kinds of issues that they have. To wrestle with and definitions that they've never seen before and quite honestly a lot, of it was even new, to some of us so I'm down in the weeds, so yeah I mean I think you're right some of the questions we don't know how they're answering but, certainly the, tax questions are much easier to answer than some of the financial. The Bank fraud questions and financial Bank reports or foreign Bank report Sorry all? Right Trish will run at that if they don't come up with a verdict today today reconvene Monday they absolutely. Do they'll come, back on Monday morning there this is a jury that likes, to come in at nine thirty. And the, judge seems, to be willing to let him so they'll. Get in their big room the, extra big room they ask for her because the exhibitors so you know so big, there's so many of them and and they will just plug away ABC's Chris Turner reporting live from Alexandria Virginia. Thanks so much Trish my pleasure five.

"Coming up at seven fourteen revoking John Brennan's clear at sin at seven Twenty-three what did Andrew Cuomo say but I Paul Manafort trial is going to closing argument going to, the jury today and Alexandria we're joined now by. ABC. News correspondent Trish Turner Trish? Good morning Good morning Gary hurry I'm Good Hope. You are as well so what did each side, saying closing arguments Well essentially I we were it was a bit of a recap of their opening statements the. Government wants to Paul Manafort. As a greedy liar who was in, charge of every penny of his income. He wasn't, delegating to, underlings they were doing some of, his bidding but he was in charge of everything he willfully. You know committed Bank fraud and tax evasion and they just went, after him with a number of exhibits they're, sending, back three hundred eighty eight. Exhibits with with the, jury and but the, defense turned around. And said look this was. All line, gates the government's star witness. You heard him say he embezzled money. He lied to his boss you know he, said it was him he set up all those offshore accounts. That's how, they were. Doing business. With Ukraine and then he. Was stealing everything under everything out? Of it There he was, talking, to the tax repairs so. They basically put everything, on Rick gates and, then on some. Of the other associate to. Were affiliated, with Paul Manafort so the. Deliberations began today is there any idea. I know there's no way to know for. Sure any idea how long does it back to the last I. Wish I knew we are just having to it does isn't gonna. Give us very, much time or just. Having to wait around and see so that that jury he dismissed all. Of the alternates, so we are now especially down to. Twelve jurors six men six women, and they'll be in. A room, just off the courtroom and so they have to wage through a mountain of of evidence like I said. There's three hundred eighty one of them the special counsel told us is seven hundred pages long do the. MAC it's it's a lot to go through and these jurors I, will say, are taking copious notes, I mean some of them I. Saw one juror literally massaging her hand, because she was so tired of taking notes so I think they're going to do a lot of investigative work here themselves. And go through the documents, I mean that that? Would seem to point to a lengthier time you. Know in, terms of days but you just never know We're talking to ABC correspondent Trish Turner Trish is there, any consensus, from knowledgeable observers on, what the verdicts may be I think you know a couple of. Former prosecutors that we've talked to who has gone into white collar criminal defense said there's just a, mountain of, evidence they think. Some of the charges will stick not quite, sure if all. Of, them will on, their you know their, eighteen total. So they think, possibly some of the Bank. Fred churches won't again it's, such guesswork but because the jury. So, unpredictable but you know that's sort, of the read we're getting as me some but not all of the charges certainly. It seems like. The tax evasion the experts we're talking to the tax evasion, stuff is, is it's pretty well documented he you do, everybody knows that when you sign your, tax returns, us sign you know with the knowledge and seeing the legal language like. If anything on this it's, full you, know, I, realized that the crime that's essentially what, it. Says in layman's terms so as you do that I mean I it's Pretty, hard to, get out of that it's almost like a contract for you to tell. The truth one thanks for, sure we'll, find, out Find out in due course Trish thank. You so much have a good day my pleasure you.
