"I bring to you. Professional poker player coach. And podcast host jared smith jared. Welcome back to the podcast sir. Hi ben man. Good how about you. I've been doing very well keeping busy. I guess we'll start by. Ask him what have you been up to. Since last time we talked just fokker obviously been playing a lot more live. Actually more live cash than Navy since last time we talked. We were smack dab dab in the middle of the most extreme part of the pandemic so had been kinda locked down stuck in the house Pretty much just playing online tournaments Every day trying to make sunshine's can have that feeling where online poker is so good that everybody was gonna allow these recreational players that were home because of covid. We're gonna run out of money soon. And some of the sites are kind of bleeding dry in my opinion with some of the schedule in guarantees everything. So that's kind of where it was dan a since then everything in vegas. Everything's opened up a whole lot. More and ton of people been here lately so given it was on the strip last night and just on a monday night was just pretty much packed. You know kind of back the old vegas so to speak so You know it's been really good but it it just pretty much. Been playing a lot of live cash in occasional venetian venetian and win tournaments and such and then Just one us circuit ring online. Last sunday congrats man congrats. Why the live cash games streets and not the live tournament Live tournaments fairmount. Those kind of my that was kind of bread and butter. I mix between live tournaments and online tournaments for the most part. But i've actually been pretty down slaying online mostly. I wouldn't call it a big downswing in live tournaments. But i just hadn't really done too much since the since the i tournaments can i came back so in those can add up a lot quicker other just the the lower end binds are are higher than the barbarians. You know the higher end by that. I play online. Of course even like a four hundred live is like a low buying soft tournament. And i really don't play for a play much over to fifteen to twenty five or something on sunday itself had been kind of going on down swing so it's pretty hard to downswing in. Live one three into five cash people ages. They're like literally giving it away. I mean you you can do it. You can down so you can run. Bad variance will will get you. But it's it's you don't win when your win rate is is something absurd and i'm not even super i'm not even very good at cash. I would say. But i was still winning it some somewhere in the neighborhood of forty to fifty dollars an hour in a one three to five combines so it was an adjusted make sure keeps him steadying going to pay the bills and everything in this kind of play tournaments to trinh make more
How does the new coronavirus compare with the flu?
"Coronaviruses are RNA viruses they're very infectious the cousins are measles and if buyers is that cause the common cold which are also corona viruses but they're not novel corona viruses the ones that cause the common cold we've had around for years and years and when your listeners get Sniffles and you know start to cough it said Trinh and it's usually early winter or early spring this is corona virus as a rule but the novel coronavirus the corona virus of twenty nineteen is a specific mutant to which we have no immunity we've had a herd immunity from the old corona viruses that infect us and cause the common cold but we don't have any specific immunity to the new coronavirus now these viruses are very infectious so you breed on somebody and you can transmit the disease the reason you do that is because you have receptors for these viruses in your tongue the cheeks your nose your lungs and even in your heart and so when you get loaded with virus your immune system has got to fight this virus that it is never seen before so there's all kinds of new immune processes that go in which are very complicated they go into effect to try to overcome this new infection and that is primarily corona back now the which reason it's called corona viruses the covering of the virus and this is extremely small virus which can only see under the electron microscope so it's invisible to the naked eye these viruses have projections that stick out that make them look like they have a crown and that's why it's called the corona or crown virus so how does it spread and what's the life cycle like from the time of infection to win symptoms may begin to present themselves to when someone's all better yes so that's that's a good question now the problem with this virus is that you can have it and not know it when someone is exposed to somebody who's definitely infected proven infected it takes about five days at the least to show symptoms and the median time is eleven point five days so we would like to quarantine people for two weeks because we know that within two weeks you're going to show signs of the infection so that's the rule of thumb now the problem with this virus as I just said is that you can have it and not know it and about eighty percent of people that are infected with this will have something that you would consider a head cold or mildly scratchy throat and that's it nothing else and then there's twenty percent of people who may have what we in medicine call call morbidities that is either have diabetes run chemotherapy you're an alcoholic you smoke too much you have bad asthma you have COPD if you're older you have emphysema people like that that get this virus from somebody else wind up with bad kinds of rest a Tory problems lung problems and most of the deaths that occur from pneumonia and overwhelming lung infection and that's why everybody has to be checked out everybody has to be careful because we don't know who those people are that have these these glitches in their immune systems we're talking to the chairman of medicine at Saint Joseph university hospital Dr Baba heater here on I heart radio there's two other types of illnesses that a lot of people are dealing with at the moment the flu and allergies how can people tell them apart from Kobe nineteen will cover nineteen S. as Tony Fauci the head of the N. I. H. St is about ten times worse than the flu that's when you get the bad infection you'll run a high fever but you do that with the flu if you haven't been immunized you'll get muscle aches and pains you have no idea perhaps vomiting maybe some diarrhea all of these things are similar to that which you would get when you get the flu and it's extremely difficult to tell the difference but the difference is we have a vaccine for the flu and we also have a rapid test we do in the emergency room to determine whether you have the flu we can do it on site most hospitals have flu swabs in flu tests that they can do and you can get a result within an hour the allergies are very easy you don't run a high fever with allergies you you have Sniffles you do your you know your nose turns red you cough up a lot of gunk but that's not the same thing as the flu and it certainly is not the same thing as cobra nineteen you just product testing can you explain for a moment what we should know about tasks for this coronavirus and why they seem to be a bit more complicated than say a test for the flu yes so the reason they are difficult is that the testing because coronas are very common the regular garden variety coronas we have to be able to discern which one is coded nineteen there's a very complicated process which revolve is around the fact that this is a DNA virus and we do something called polymerase chain reaction on the sample that's why regular hospitals don't have at this point the capability of testing for this virus it has to go to the state health department and before that it had to go to the communicable disease center better known as the CDC you know the P. C. R. which we routinely do for things like diarrheal infections we do the PCR for tuberculosis now this has this is a test that has stream Leist as streamlined diagnosis of infections thirty years ago we don't have anything like this we would have to culture you for T. B. we would have to find out you know when your school if you had organisms that cause diarrhea now we can do the same thing for corona virus but we have to be able to produce the markers namely the R. N. A. ribonucleic acid from the virus which we can get we have to multiply that and then we have to create these little tests that will define and show us that you the patient has an antibody or that is something that really reacts with this in in what's called the polymerized chain reaction the polymerized chain reactions a little complicated to describe your listeners but suffice it to say that that's the reason we haven't had test up front really quickly we're talking to the chairman of medicine at Saint Joseph university hospital Dr Bob Lee Hida a lot of information is floating online suggestions for how people can keep themselves and their families better protected what are some practices are products that we know actually work hand washing with soap works pure rail or hand sanitizers work if you can get a hold of some we have them on the walls here I have a bottle right on my desk in front of me here I have several bottles at home and I wipe my hands down and I also get those you know those wipes we use in the gym yes things right like Jim stop if you're going to a gym in your working out with a lot of other P. people you want to really wipe the machines that I should be doing that anyhow but now you really should do that if you go to the theater you should wipe the chair down before you sit down and watch a movie and most people are going to go to theaters and movie theaters and sit with two hundred people today nor are they going to go to Broadway shows and do the same thing or flying an airplane you got a white you should have done this before corona you got to wait to see down you got to wait the tray table down and make sure that things are pretty clean because these viruses can stay on surfaces for upwards of two days and some people are saying even longer what about face masks well with my patients that have certain illnesses I make them wear face masks now the face mask they wear is the cloth face masks the N. ninety five facemask to the basement that grips around your nose and is any seamless you you you breathe through that mass but there's no leakage of air around it the regular cloth face masks does one thing it protects you from touching your face because if you handle some object that's been contaminated with the virus can you touch your face and that's a problem you'll get the infection it'll go right up into your nary's of your nose or into your mouth and everybody touches their face so we're saying we're a mask a regular cloth mask it'll prevent you from touching your face also wash your hands as much as you can and keep their hands as sterile as possible now if you are infected and you're coughing up phlegm and you're hopping up what you think maybe virus you should wear a nice N. ninety five mask or at the least the surgical mask where ever you go and frankly shouldn't go anywhere you should stay in your house don't go to the emergency room don't go to your doctor's office because you're going to contaminate everybody else that's there if you have trouble breathing or you're running a super high fever then you go to the emergency room where then you go to your doctor's office dial nine one one get an ambulance and get over there or have somebody drive you that's my advice is there anything else about this disease or outbreak do you think it's important we now I think I think there's not much we need to know right now there's very little known about the course it's going to take whether it's going to fade away in the summer or whether it's going to continue into the fall I do hope that we have a vaccine in the early fall September October time so that we can all get immunized with the flu at the same time we can get vaccinated against corona nineteen covert nineteen because that was that's the only surefire way that we're gonna be able to control this infection as you know it's it's devastating certain countries in Europe like get Lee and countries like China and and it's just been devastating to all sorts of populations especially the elderly those elderly people who were quite ill with lung disease or people who chain smoke probably even people who smoke pot you've got a big understanding that your lungs are irritated and when you have an irritated long it sets you up for roaring infection with this virus because their receptors in the long for the

"So it's the storm owner Nigel chew still tuned in he suggests not so Marie Trinh jumps transient. Yeah. He's a big story was published in nineteen forty eight cutting tonigh- Joel he came back to win the mother code grand prix twice and. I think he was done if he was making like a separate point about that. But yeah, now, you'll still get in touch with us. A long memory. I yeah. We now Jolie's is. We gotta get him on the show at some point. I'm suspecting this trying like coax him out with shyness. If that's what is preventing information on the show. But also, he's also is a good statman could stop. Well. A lot of people will challenge him for that. Crown? That's maybe another show for another day, which might get very boring very quickly. He also suggest Emerson Fittipaldi returning to a motorize after four years away to win to Indy. Five hundreds and then IndyCar championship would be right up. There says our Nigel show and Barry Shane's Daytona test crush comeback suggests in Lorimer for one of the greatest about spoil comebacks of all time. Potentially. Yes. Because I think we'd be had that will probably I think we've probably have to designate it for another type of show, certainly. And that's the show. I'd like to certainly anyway, some point because we've got one more thing about before we go. There were already like we already apply to limit that we impose on ourselves. But anyway, because there's lots of motorsport happening this weekend. And that will be the say. Live race day weekend, which I think might be streamed live some point on the Facebook page and YouTube journals keep an eye out for that. I only mention it because I'll be there, of course. Not you know about it. I'm talking about the same things as though. You know? But no, I'm telling you, I will be there and fobel the four sixteen hundred national championship in action now one of Jackson's favorites championships. Well, so we'll be drawing that well, I say way myself and people over there Connor will be altern park. Enjoying the the fantastic Volkswagen breaks in Cup championship which is back in action. And as well formula three Ambrish Detaille amongst others. But mostly they w Cup. Yes. Thank you very much, by the way to anyone with the maximum support team and feed happy Cup for the opportunity down there. But no, it's an exhausting championship. Coming up this season. Many many of you know, one of the biggest won't make series in the country. And it's very exciting to sit back for his twentieth season. It's going to get a Get load a load of. of extra car drivers in their shares including people like mountain Deva and his Addison jacket fighters. Two father son combinations this year with the Walton family as well. So it's always interesting to see racing racing dynasties on the national level because that's the way it's fun competition. Also down the Waltons, we'll be also driving the Audi TT's in the Volkswagen Cup. So it's great to see. If a riot of cars down down road, you'll based of the single chassis, which is why they enter dot car. But actually say also.
Bernie Sanders joins growing Democratic field of 2020 candidates
"Let us finally moved today back to the US where vets. Trinh Senator Bernie Sanders has officially announced his second US presidential bid the seventy seven year olds. Vermont Senator became a political star back in two thousand sixteen when he narrowly lost a Hillary Clinton for the democratic nomination. He declared to his supporters. It was time to complete the quote political revolution. He started with many candidates in the field could Sanders stand out as he did back in two thousand sixteen or will it further splinter the Democrats who will need a United front to unseat Trump. Good move for Sanders or good move bad move for the Democrats. The last time I was on a said this, and I'll say it again for the next eight months, the most important thing, the Democrats should be doing is devoting all their energy to removing the clear and present danger. That's in the White House. The democrat who leads that. And is an if they're successful at it will be the nominee for president all of these people coming out of the woodwork. Now, they do it primarily because they're encouraged by their media advisers to do it because they're going to get money to get media. The media loves it because it gives them a horse race every day on days when there's really no news happening in Washington because it's grid-locked. So that's one part of the argument. The second thing to say is that currently leading the field by the most recent polling, Joe Biden, former vice president and Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden will be passed seventy five in twenty twenty Bernie will be seventy nine and I'm I'm going to make a bold prediction that neither man will be the nominee of the democratic morning. It's I mean, they may do well at the in the early stages because of name recognition, but it's not going to happen. The thing that Bernie Sanders did and which makes him a really important figure in American politics last five years is that he in challenging Hillary Clinton from what we would call the left. He completely redefined what was politically possible in America. And you know, it is no surprise that. The most well known new politician, America Alexandria. Oh, Cossio Cortez is actually approaches. Shea of Bernie her she got elected in New York City, basically running on his platform all over the country, young younger candidates, and particularly younger women have been braced this idea of democratic socialism. That was Bernie the question is having defined the territory. This is a terrific phrase from political blogger for Esquire Charlie Pierce today. Days having defined the territory does he own the real estate? He does not. And I don't think he will get to the finish line. And because he's a tough old Brooklyn guy. He's even though he's from Vermont. Now, it tough old Brooklyn guy. He won't go gracefully. But I don't see him getting the votes in the end he will have to consolidate behind a more progressive person. And although a lot of feminists blame him for, you know, attacking Hillary Clinton. My guess is he will end up consolidating behind one of the more prominent women who are who have already declared, and who are competent, and who could do very well in twenty twenty

"We have so much emotional stakes in the way our bodies look and not really how they function. That is so true. Trinh people find it offensive if you're fat, it's fucking ridiculous. It is so terrible. Yeah. So let's talk about why she is knowing her doctor's advice. Now, first of all, denial is powerful, and it is off. Often actually necessary. Denial is a coping mechanism. This means it will help you cope the she is living in the same world that you are. She lost a family member. She lost a family member and she's dealing with the same medical issue that they are. That is really fucking stressful. That is so hard on this person. She may need this little bit of bravado eating something in front of you to make her feel a little bit better about her life, and she might be laughing about this just to get through a little bit of light in her day. Absolutely. She's living in this garbage planet with you. Okay. She's getting all the same news that you are. She has the same work stress that you do. She has a ten year old. She's got like parental stress. The last thing that she's thinking about and I just from knowing parents, I know that unfortunately, they tend to put themselves last. It could be that she needs to put herself last right now. -solutely, which fucking sucks. And, and it sucks that we again have a society that set up in such a way that parents need. To do this in order to accomplish every other tasks on their list and deal with every other stress that they have. It's hard, but I have such an Pathy for this person. Yeah, who wants to pizza wants to have a laugh at their doctor who wants to feel in control? Yes, that's what's ringing true for me right now is if I were under this amount of stress and probably grief, it sounds like there's grief. You wouldn't have mentioned the loss family member if it weren't something that was prevalent in the family issues had recently. Yeah, so like Ouch, that's awful. Yeah, I really think that it is not your place and be right. It just can't be your friend, your friend and this person. This friend has a spouse. They probably have family members who are around and other people who care for them who are closer to her than you are, which may seem hard to believe if you are best friends, but she has somebody that she's legally bound to in probably lives with. Yeah. So yeah, I hate to say it, but it is hate to say it, but also love to say it her fucking body. That's her fucking body. Yeah. The only way you can say something. She gives you blatant consistent permission, get helmet, and I don't see any of that in the question. One hundred. I don't see. She asked me what I should do to get on a diet, or she asked me what she thinks of this prescription. I don't know. I'm just making shit up. Neither of those may apply. She didn't give you any runway to come down this road with her and man. If a doctor a professional who she is paying to a monitor, her health is unable to impact her her decisions about her body. You are not going to be able to make a dent. Yeah, I think all you would do is hurt her. Yeah. Well, one thing you can do and I think really the only thing you can do is you have to stop laughing with her. So if she says something like my doctor would be so pissed if you knew I were eating the steak, I'm not allowed to have red meat. Don't laugh. Don't don't contribute. You shouldn't actively disagree with what she does with her own body. You shouldn't like put your hand in front of that steak and say, no, throw it to the Joe. Don't comment on her food or. Anything right? But like you don't have to play along. You can make that uncomfortable like noise. Oh, I love you. Don't tell me that that is so good. You really? Okay, good. Because that was my first instinct. Just be like, I love you. Listen to the people that care about you or I don't know something that with the interesting that you were just getting the good humor. She may be doing stuff when you're not around that does align with what our doctor wants her to do..

"Like the idea of women owning their sexuality it's kind of like this idea that i can be sexy because i want to be sexy and i own my sexiness and i'm allowed to have thoughts about sex and have sex as a woman in the same way that a man trinh can do the same and it's a really convoluted conversation to have in our community and i say are i mean the gaming community because people jump to conclusions and they they mince words and they get the argument all jumbled up and let's put it was his home in forty kheirkhah there you go right this is a black and white we paint broad strokes i don't know the motivation of why the near characters wrestle issues right exactly and so i think you know when you talk about women who get offended by the representations of women in specific video games it's because they want women in games to be able to own their sexuality does princess peach own her sexuality no right she's damzal but legged are there are women like bayonet on who own their sexuality yes there are so i mean i think that it's you have to take it on a case by case basis and go let's look at what some of the bad representations are and also let's look at what some of the good representations are and say hey like these are some things that we can learn from it and this is how we can do better and the these are some of the people who are doing an excellent job with it and it's just a it's a tough conversation had because everybody's world view of what sexuality is and what it means to you is wildly different some people are are okay with nudity and other people are not okay with nudity some people are okay with violence others are not and so the the sliding scale has so much gray area in between it it's hard to have a productive conversation about you know what is considered of female who is sexual eyes and what is not but i think the most important word that people need to remember when talking about an issue like this is agency does the character control what's happening to her.
